- 2:09Speaker 1: a lifelong that will never stop. But yeah, so we're
- 2:12Speaker 1: going to be chatting through all the things we've been
- 2:14Speaker 1: obsessed with this month. But before we do, we're going
- 2:17Speaker 1: to start with our life lessons of the week. So Alejandro,
- 2:20Speaker 1: would you like to kick us off?
- 2:22Speaker 2: See so my obsession.
- 2:27Speaker 1: To go to sleep, sleep to sleep, uppy.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Tomorrow is a new day.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Also an obsession all right, life lesson that was Yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 1: my obsession is.
- 2:38Speaker 2: The Royal Court with Britney Broski. It's funny. I love
- 2:42Speaker 2: her anyway, Sally.
- 2:45Speaker 1: My life lesson of the week is that I have
- 2:49Speaker 1: been validated as an Irish good buyer.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Oh hit me.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I do not believe Irish goodbyers to be rude. I
- 2:57Speaker 1: believe them to serve a purpose. Get out of there,
- 3:01Speaker 1: especially if it's you know, six people. Maybe not Yeah, okay,
- 3:06Speaker 1: first date, bit iffy, I could just buy it, though.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Irish could buy your first dates if they suck. Do
- 3:15Speaker 2: you know?
- 3:15Speaker 1: I think I've told the story on the podcast before.
- 3:17Speaker 1: There was this chick in Bondi and someone had taken
- 3:21Speaker 1: a photo. This chick had put posters around Bondai of
- 3:25Speaker 1: a guy and she was like, PSA, don't go on
- 3:28Speaker 1: a date with this guy.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I met up with him from.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Hinge or Bumble or one of those dating apps, and
- 3:35Speaker 3: the whole evening he or maybe someone wrote it for
- 3:38Speaker 3: their friend. I'm trying to remember paraphrasing and also just
- 3:41Speaker 3: accept there maybe gst on this story.
- 3:44Speaker 2: We got to add Mayo and was like.
- 3:47Speaker 3: He got super drunk and ordered a bunch of cocktails
- 3:52Speaker 3: on the tab and when he realized I wasn't going
- 3:55Speaker 3: to sleep with him, he said he needed.
- 3:57Speaker 2: To go to the bathroom.
- 3:58Speaker 3: And after like thirty minutes, I asked the way to
- 4:02Speaker 3: check if he was in the bathroom, check on him,
- 4:05Speaker 3: and he dined and dashed her and dined and dashed
- 4:08Speaker 3: and left her with the bill of all the cocktails.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Oh my god. She went and she got his hinge.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Photos and posted them around Bondo and was like, beware
- 4:19Speaker 1: this man.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I love that, I was gonna say.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I hope she did them as like wanted or missing posters,
- 4:23Speaker 1: Like that's how I would have gone for. I love it.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I love stopping for a weird poster. Me too, I
- 4:29Speaker 2: love it. I love I hate seeing the missing animals once.
- 4:32Speaker 1: No, but I do like something like a vengeance one yeah,
- 4:35Speaker 1: way lay your enemies no, okay, no the ghosting okay
- 4:44Speaker 1: no no iris irish goodbye, we're back, We're back, We're
- 4:48Speaker 1: locked back in. People who skip goodbyes at parties save
- 4:52Speaker 1: two days a year.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 4:58Speaker 1: The University of New South Wales Time Management Institute reportedly
- 5:02Speaker 1: interviewed about two thousand Australians and found that saying goodbye
- 5:06Speaker 1: are parties can take far longer than expected. On average,
- 5:10Speaker 1: people attenned around twenty five social events per year, which
- 5:14Speaker 1: that's concerning I'm going home stressed, and once they decide
- 5:19Speaker 1: to leave, the farewell process can stretch to forty five
- 5:22Speaker 1: minutes or more.
- 5:24Speaker 2: I believe, I concur I believe it unchallenged. Yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Over time, those extended goodbyees can total nearly nineteen hours annually.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Fuck mey mm hmmm.
- 5:36Speaker 1: For highly social individuals who attend more events or spend
- 5:40Speaker 1: closer to an hour making the rounds, that number can
- 5:43Speaker 1: climb significantly, approaching the equivalent of two full days per
- 5:48Speaker 1: year spent simply trying to leave. Wow.
- 5:52Speaker 2: So do you say goodbye at parties?
- 5:54Speaker 1: I do, but I also don't hold it against anybody
- 5:57Speaker 1: who does Irish goodbye. But I do prefer when somebody
- 6:01Speaker 1: at least sends a text, because I'm the person that's always.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Like, text me when you get home.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah, And then I'll like message and I'm like, you
- 6:08Speaker 1: didn't message me?
- 6:09Speaker 2: Are you okay? Like I text you in the morning. Yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 2: I'm like hello, So.
- 6:13Speaker 1: That's a life that's me texting you going that's just
- 6:18Speaker 1: that's not after a night out, that's just just.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Hello, where are you?
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yeah? I think I do pretty much always say goodbye,
- 6:27Speaker 1: but maybe not to the whole group.
- 6:29Speaker 3: I don't say it to everything. I think it does
- 6:32Speaker 3: depend Sometimes it is a come on, let's get out
- 6:37Speaker 3: of here.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I think you're Irish goodbye. Well last week I fucking
- 6:45Speaker 2: you Irish goodbye a little too done?
- 6:47Speaker 1: I Irish goodbye too Irishly that I left my bag
- 6:53Speaker 1: at the bar. I literally because for context, it was
- 6:58Speaker 1: a very very busy bar, and we'd gone out for
- 7:02Speaker 1: girls Galantines and then we'd gone out to a bar,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and then some of the boys had met us up
- 7:07Speaker 1: at the bar and.
- 7:09Speaker 3: It was outside beautiful courtyard. But at this point it
- 7:12Speaker 3: was maybe about ten thirty.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I've then started thinking about how I've got Ravioli in
- 7:16Speaker 1: the fridge, and I was like that shit's got my
- 7:18Speaker 1: fucking name on it, Like, let's go.
- 7:21Speaker 2: And then I go to the bathroom.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I come back and it's like a stampede is moving
- 7:25Speaker 1: in and I was like, wow, they shut down outside.
- 7:28Speaker 2: No, it started drizzling, and but it was.
- 7:31Speaker 3: One of those drizzles that you're like this, the heavens
- 7:34Speaker 3: are about to open up and release, and so I
- 7:38Speaker 3: was like, everyone's about to order an uber.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Let's get the fuck out of here. So I ordered
- 7:42Speaker 2: an uber.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I was like, bye, I'm getting Ravioli and I've sprinted
- 7:47Speaker 1: outside and I was like raw quick, and so we've left.
- 7:51Speaker 2: We get home, the uber bawls in and I'm rustling
- 7:54Speaker 2: down the bottom. I go, where's my bag? And Rob
- 7:57Speaker 2: was like what.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, my bag and he was like no,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and I was like, oh my god, I left my
- 8:04Speaker 1: purse there. I fully walked out and can I just say,
- 8:09Speaker 1: what's a name in that trip tea? Like? I was like.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I was just so focused on Ravioli that I
- 8:16Speaker 2: left my person. I had to call you and be like,
- 8:18Speaker 2: can you go get my posts baddie? Like run through
- 8:21Speaker 2: the rain, I know the girls.
- 8:23Speaker 3: The girls come through, So yeah, Irish goodbyes. I stand
- 8:26Speaker 3: by Irish goodbyes with your purse. No, I will announce
- 8:30Speaker 3: it goodbye.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I will be like.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Bye, w.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I declare I'm going home goodbye? Can we do that tomorrow?
- 8:41Speaker 2: Are you in a pollicular face or something? Because I'm
- 8:45Speaker 2: vibing you right now. It's really give me mad you area.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yep, knew, I can tell dude, day seventeen, write that down,
- 8:56Speaker 1: write that down. That's good in all social engagements or
- 9:01Speaker 1: any like big moments of the month.
- 9:04Speaker 2: This is good though our birthdays. It's the nineteenth. Your
- 9:08Speaker 2: birthdays on the nineteenth. My birthdays on the nineteenth means
- 9:11Speaker 2: your weave.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Iban party rockers in the asked you had your period
- 9:14Speaker 1: on your birthday.
- 9:18Speaker 2: That's not good. It's not good. All right? Should I
- 9:21Speaker 2: get into my life lesson? I would love to your
- 9:24Speaker 2: life lesson.
- 9:24Speaker 1: That's kind of more of an obsession I was saying.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I was like, I'm cheating a bit. We'll figure out
- 9:29Speaker 1: what the lesson is on the way. It's a journey.
- 9:32Speaker 2: But my life lesson obsession of that need me here today?
- 9:35Speaker 1: I say, you have got this locked and loaded solo app.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't need me. Just speak with my inner
- 9:42Speaker 2: demons the whole app. Get them out on the couch. Okay.
- 9:46Speaker 1: My life lesson and obsession of the week is the
- 9:49Speaker 1: story of Punch the Monkey.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Are you familiar with this? Are you no? Okay, well
- 9:56Speaker 2: I'll give you the context. You're gonna love it.
- 10:00Speaker 1: So Punch the Monkey is twenty twenty six's answer to Moudang.
- 10:04Speaker 1: If you remember who Moudang is, she was like little
- 10:07Speaker 1: hippo that the internation. I know who I'm just for
- 10:10Speaker 1: anybody who maybe isn't chronically online and like obsessed with
- 10:14Speaker 1: baby animals on the web, which is my nationress higher
- 10:18Speaker 1: TikTok like I will have these like funny TikTok saves
- 10:23Speaker 1: for sal and I don't send them to her because
- 10:25Speaker 1: I like to sit and watch her reaction.
- 10:27Speaker 2: To the funny tiktoks.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and I saved them for her, and then I go,
- 10:30Speaker 3: do you have any save for me?
- 10:32Speaker 2: And she goes and she pulls up her saves and
- 10:35Speaker 2: it's all baby animals.
- 10:37Speaker 1: It's all zingzing the one. I'm Tibetan macak who I
- 10:39Speaker 1: would lay my life down for.
- 10:41Speaker 2: But there's a new macaqu on z names and his
- 10:43Speaker 2: name's Punch.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So Punch is this baby macaque right who lives in
- 10:49Speaker 1: a zoo in Japan, and he was born in July
- 10:52Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five, so he's like just over six
- 10:55Speaker 1: months old, like truly a wee babby, and he was
- 10:57Speaker 1: abandoned by his mum when he was first born. So
- 11:01Speaker 1: at the zoo, bitch I needed, I got some choice
- 11:06Speaker 1: words that macaque.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I'm your mom. Now, I'm your mommy.
- 11:11Speaker 4: I'm gonna fuck up that.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Okay, So I will not hurt or harm. No, I
- 11:19Speaker 1: just want to talks.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Were harmed in the making. I just want to talk. Okay.
- 11:23Speaker 2: So he was abandoned by his mom. Drop your pin,
- 11:27Speaker 2: drop your pin. Macaque drove your fucking pin. Okay, So
- 11:34Speaker 2: he was abandoned by his mom.
- 11:36Speaker 1: This is the energy for today. He is abandoned by
- 11:38Speaker 1: that bitch.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Look, I don't know her story, so I don't want
- 11:42Speaker 2: to speak. She might have gone through some stuff exactly.
- 11:45Speaker 2: So they're complex creature. They're in dangered.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Back to probably, I'm so sorry, Please tell me about punch.
- 11:54Speaker 1: So he's been abandoned by his mom. Right, So he's
- 11:57Speaker 1: in this zoo and the zoo keeps have like raised him,
- 12:02Speaker 1: and but they noticed that he was having some trouble
- 12:05Speaker 1: fitting in with the other macaques.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Right, Oh my god, he's a loser, my caq.
- 12:10Speaker 1: So baby macaques like they're kind of like humans, right,
- 12:13Speaker 1: Like they they depend on like clinging on their moms
- 12:17Speaker 1: and like.
- 12:17Speaker 2: That kind of nurturing as they grow up.
- 12:20Speaker 1: So he didn't really have anyone. So they noticed that
- 12:23Speaker 1: he was like showing signs.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Of friend is it a puppy?
- 12:27Speaker 3: Is the cat?
- 12:28Speaker 1: They gave him a stuffed toy orangutang. It is so
- 12:32Speaker 1: beautiful and he has truly forged a bond with this orangutang.
- 12:37Speaker 2: And there's like he's gone so much any friends. He
- 12:41Speaker 2: just I think things are on the up though for Broach.
- 12:43Speaker 2: So there was all of this footage of him, like
- 12:46Speaker 2: cuddling punch, like.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Walking through the enclosure, like he looks like a human,
- 12:50Speaker 1: like a little baby. Yeah, like holding punch or holding
- 12:54Speaker 1: like the orangutang over his shoulder, like walking around thing
- 12:57Speaker 1: like eating with it, like it's truly his best friend.
- 13:00Speaker 2: And then there was like it actually makes you feel sick.
- 13:03Speaker 2: There was like footage of all the other macaqus.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And he goes to walk up to them and one
- 13:07Speaker 1: of them pushes him over.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Don't tell me.
- 13:10Speaker 1: About it, but I believe that it's kind of like
- 13:14Speaker 1: it's kind of like a rum punches mom.
- 13:21Speaker 2: The main macaque, the main Macaqus, what do they really
- 13:24Speaker 2: picture them?
- 13:25Speaker 1: Like?
- 13:25Speaker 2: Sit like west Side Story, please your rond, no your road, no.
- 13:32Speaker 1: All whatever is that was impressive sing a song from
- 13:35Speaker 1: West Side Story. But yeah, I have also seen some
- 13:39Speaker 1: seen some reports that he's been integrating a.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Little bit to a new school. Can we bring him here?
- 13:45Speaker 1: Bring him to bring him to us him and seeing
- 13:49Speaker 1: the one arm Tibet Macaque, I would do anything.
- 13:52Speaker 2: What's the life lesson?
- 13:54Speaker 1: Yeah, you gotta go through adversity. Some French people on
- 14:00Speaker 1: the other a tenny get a stuffed Do we get
- 14:04Speaker 1: into our obsessions and favorites of the month.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I think we should wrap up here. Okay.
- 14:09Speaker 1: My monthly obsession is that eBay is buying Deepop.
- 14:19Speaker 2: This is juicy.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Sorry if I was anyone, Okay, didn't just walk into
- 14:25Speaker 1: the set.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I just took a sip of my coffee and was
- 14:29Speaker 2: trying to that easy what do you do in here?
- 14:33Speaker 1: Okay? So eBay has struck a deal to buy Deepop
- 14:36Speaker 1: from Etsy. The deal was for one point seven billion dollars.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Fit right, So it's obviously a strategic move to try
- 14:48Speaker 1: and tap into Deepop's younger audience.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Because I don't know about you, but I'm very much.
- 14:53Speaker 1: More like used Deepop more over the last couple of
- 14:57Speaker 1: years than eBay. But I've recently started getting back into
- 15:00Speaker 1: because deepop.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Is getting a little bit too big for her boats.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Yeah, in terms of some of the like some of
- 15:05Speaker 1: the pricing, and also I have seen a lot of conversation.
- 15:08Speaker 3: On deepop about the fees to sell on that and
- 15:13Speaker 3: how like you know, by the time you sell a
- 15:15Speaker 3: fifty dollar dress you get like twenty bucks back.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I don't know if that's actually accurate, Yeah, but like
- 15:20Speaker 2: that's kind of the rhetoric around it.
- 15:22Speaker 3: But basically Deepop's name, brand, platform, and culture will remain
- 15:27Speaker 3: the same, but it will absorb some of eBay's features
- 15:32Speaker 3: like shipping options and what I'm most excited about an
- 15:36Speaker 3: authenticity guarantee.
- 15:39Speaker 2: That's what I was wondering.
- 15:40Speaker 1: That's so cool because I rolled that out a few
- 15:42Speaker 1: years ago, right, which is so helpful when you're buying
- 15:45Speaker 1: luxury items seriously, So the authenticity guarantee means that you
- 15:49Speaker 1: can really get your hands on those amazing like vintage
- 15:52Speaker 1: designer pieces because that's really only the designer that like
- 15:55Speaker 1: we vibe with.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yeah, with an asterix, you never know.
- 15:59Speaker 1: But I just think that's so good because there is
- 16:01Speaker 1: so much risk and scams online that there is a
- 16:06Speaker 1: lot more safety buying on eBay. I feel like I've
- 16:09Speaker 1: spoken to a lot more people that have been scammed
- 16:11Speaker 1: by like other marketplace options. Myself fucking included hanted Haunted bag.
- 16:21Speaker 1: You had a Haunted I did it did a few
- 16:25Speaker 1: years ago.
- 16:26Speaker 2: You shut Do you remember.
- 16:30Speaker 1: You have blocked this out? I think so you didn't
- 16:34Speaker 1: listen to You had haunted and you returned it.
- 16:38Speaker 2: You had a horn Sally, I've erased this.
- 16:41Speaker 1: You had a haunted vintage Gouchie or maybe Chanelle bag
- 16:48Speaker 1: and you bought this bag and it was really cute
- 16:51Speaker 1: and it was like you got it for a good
- 16:52Speaker 1: price and you got it on deeper.
- 16:54Speaker 2: But then all of this bad ship started happening. We
- 16:58Speaker 2: were like the haunted Gucci. I was like, you have
- 17:03Speaker 2: to return it, and do you know what it is?
- 17:05Speaker 2: Because then we looked it up and it was a
- 17:08Speaker 2: dead stock.
- 17:09Speaker 1: It was from like and they were like got in
- 17:11Speaker 1: like a dead dead person's yard sale, and we were
- 17:14Speaker 1: like Grandma is back, being like, that's my good bag
- 17:18Speaker 1: being off my fucking bag.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Yeah, because it was like from.
- 17:21Speaker 1: An estate sale or something like that called not dead
- 17:24Speaker 1: person yard sales, not being scammed, being haunted by your
- 17:29Speaker 1: Gucci bag.
- 17:31Speaker 2: That psychic chick on TikTok that we really like. She
- 17:34Speaker 2: did a reading, the one from New Zealand. Yeah, because
- 17:37Speaker 2: blue eyed Kayla Jade, Yes you see this, Yes you
- 17:40Speaker 2: saw this. So she bought a bunch of antiques and
- 17:43Speaker 2: weird shit started happening her. Why are you crying because
- 17:45Speaker 2: I'm scared of don't clump in the mastery because I'm
- 17:49Speaker 2: scared it's gonna happen to me. Yeah. So she bought
- 17:52Speaker 2: a bunch of like.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Random shit and then it was all these antiques and
- 17:56Speaker 1: weird vibes were happening.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Then our favorite psychic I can't remember what her
- 18:01Speaker 2: name is, we'll put a link to her there. She
- 18:04Speaker 2: read the items and she literally was like, I would
- 18:08Speaker 2: get rid of this.
- 18:09Speaker 1: It was the mirror, it was the Baby Angel, and
- 18:15Speaker 1: she said she heard a weird voice. Do you remember
- 18:18Speaker 1: and then it was like a dark, gravelly voice. Yes, yes,
- 18:20Speaker 1: and it was really bad. I just got she it
- 18:23Speaker 1: was really bad and it was like quite menacing, and
- 18:26Speaker 1: she was like it's laughing at me. Yes. And then
- 18:30Speaker 1: there was the course I stop watching because I got
- 18:33Speaker 1: there was.
- 18:34Speaker 2: The book as well, this is my obsession.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right, And a few other people in the
- 18:42Speaker 1: comments were like, as soon as that baby Angel the
- 18:44Speaker 1: chair of pop, I actually don't want.
- 18:46Speaker 2: To watch her feel a bit sick. Okay anyway, so
- 18:48Speaker 2: deep up, eBay.
- 18:50Speaker 1: So deep hop was actually owned by Etsy, Yeah, which
- 18:55Speaker 1: I didn't realize, I don't think so. Etsy acquired it
- 18:58Speaker 1: for one point six billion in twenty twenty one, but
- 19:01Speaker 1: eBay has bought it for one point two billion, So
- 19:05Speaker 1: ess he's at a loss, which I find very interesting
- 19:08Speaker 1: because as of December twenty twenty five, deepop has more
- 19:11Speaker 1: than ten million active users buying and selling, and almost
- 19:15Speaker 1: ninety percent of buyers are under the age of thirty four.
- 19:18Speaker 1: So I'm quite surprised that it's sold at a loss
- 19:22Speaker 1: or Etsy. That's interesting. What does that say about Etsy
- 19:26Speaker 1: at large? Does need some cash money? Yeah, a mere
- 19:30Speaker 1: twenty Literally Etsy, they're saying, can you transwenty eight dollars
- 19:34Speaker 1: for that coffee I've.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Got you last week? So fair, frugal. I'm thinking about
- 19:38Speaker 2: the horn and keepers scared. I'm trying to lock in.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I'd seen some speculation that perhaps the fees on deepop
- 19:45Speaker 1: would be higher though after the acquisition, but I don't know.
- 19:49Speaker 2: This is all quite interested to see.
- 19:51Speaker 1: That though, because a lot of the people that have
- 19:54Speaker 1: been frustrated about the deepop fees that's why they go eBay.
- 19:57Speaker 2: I've started selling on eBay. I don't know, but I'm
- 20:00Speaker 2: very interested. Well, yeah, that's my my first obsession.
- 20:03Speaker 1: My first obsession of February is the new Netflix documentary
- 20:08Speaker 1: about America's Next Top Model.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I've been waiting. I'm sad. Yeah, so I finished watching
- 20:13Speaker 2: it last night.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Okay. So it's a three part series and it's a
- 20:18Speaker 1: BTS like behind the Curtain documentary about of course, America's
- 20:24Speaker 1: Next Top Model. I didn't realize that that show had
- 20:27Speaker 1: been running for like over.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Ten years and it's like twenty one seasons or something.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it was wild and there were so many iterations,
- 20:34Speaker 1: like I knew that there was Australia's Next Top Model,
- 20:37Speaker 1: for example, but it the franchise rolled out into so
- 20:40Speaker 1: many countries.
- 20:41Speaker 2: But then they also had.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Like a college edition and like a Brits versus the
- 20:46Speaker 1: US edition, like it was giving RuPaul's drag race, like
- 20:49Speaker 1: so many franchises that I was like, holy shit. And
- 20:54Speaker 1: it was really interesting because the documentary actually included like
- 21:00Speaker 1: was made up of a bunch of interviews, including interviews
- 21:03Speaker 1: with Tyra Banks, the host of the show, and then
- 21:07Speaker 1: the three other judges who are I think it's j
- 21:10Speaker 1: Alexander another Jay, and then Nigel the photographer, and then
- 21:15Speaker 1: like the producer of the show, and then also a
- 21:18Speaker 1: bunch of the models who were on the show too.
- 21:20Speaker 1: So I actually thought that was really interesting and that
- 21:24Speaker 1: Tyra would go and like be open to being interviewed
- 21:28Speaker 1: for that, but you'd be so, how did she go
- 21:33Speaker 1: in terms of taking responsibility for the role that she
- 21:36Speaker 1: played in what is and was a very problematic show?
- 21:41Speaker 2: Exactly? Yeah.
- 21:42Speaker 1: So I think I got like mixed vibes from her,
- 21:46Speaker 1: you know, because there were quite a few things, like,
- 21:49Speaker 1: for example, they brought up the whole scene of the how.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Dare you I've never yelled a girl?
- 21:55Speaker 1: We were all ruting for you, Yeah, exactly, Like they
- 21:58Speaker 1: spoke about that.
- 21:58Speaker 2: They asked her like, what was the.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Toughest scene that she ever filmed? Event you know what
- 22:04Speaker 1: they eventually landed on, and like.
- 22:06Speaker 2: She spoke about that.
- 22:07Speaker 1: But I feel like a lot of the time she
- 22:09Speaker 1: would be like, I put my hand up, and I
- 22:11Speaker 1: completely agree that, you know, a lot of the things
- 22:13Speaker 1: that we were doing completely out of line. Like looking
- 22:17Speaker 1: back at it now, I'm like, oh my god, Like
- 22:19Speaker 1: that was wild, but I'll be back at it now. Yeah,
- 22:22Speaker 1: but it felt very like flippant. I don't know the
- 22:25Speaker 1: way that she spoke about it, and.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Do you think it's landed for her?
- 22:29Speaker 3: Do you think she gets it or do you think
- 22:31Speaker 3: she was a little bit in denial.
- 22:33Speaker 2: It's hard to say because I haven't seen the show,
- 22:36Speaker 2: but you've seen.
- 22:37Speaker 3: But I've seen the conversation about it online and what
- 22:40Speaker 3: some people have thought, and basically I've seen things of
- 22:44Speaker 3: people being like, so she still doesn't get it.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I don't think any of them really get it.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yeah, Like all of the judges who were interviewed, a
- 22:52Speaker 1: lot of them were justifying the things that had happened
- 22:55Speaker 1: because there was a sign of the times, I being like, oh, well,
- 22:58Speaker 1: this is just how it was, and like that is
- 23:00Speaker 1: what the modeling industry was like, and it's.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Like, yeah, sure you can. Did any of them say
- 23:06Speaker 2: sorry in the documentary? Did any of them go like,
- 23:09Speaker 2: I'm so sorry for the role I played in it?
- 23:12Speaker 3: Because the craziest thing I fucking saw, which this is
- 23:14Speaker 3: a bit of a spoiler and also trigger warning for
- 23:16Speaker 3: like shootings, but was a model that they did a
- 23:21Speaker 3: photo shoot where they mimicked her getting shot and her
- 23:25Speaker 3: mother had been shot, which they knew from her process
- 23:30Speaker 3: of going on the show.
- 23:31Speaker 2: And there was another.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Girl who I think she ended up winning her season.
- 23:37Speaker 1: But she was in a shoot with three men and
- 23:39Speaker 1: she spoke up for herself on the set and it
- 23:43Speaker 1: was like included as part of the show, and the
- 23:46Speaker 1: three men were like they had to be like dancing
- 23:48Speaker 1: up around her and one of them kept touching her
- 23:51Speaker 1: and it had been like very flirty when the cameras were
- 23:55Speaker 1: inappropriate h and she was like, I just want to pause,
- 23:58Speaker 1: and she said, like I've said to myself, what would
- 24:00Speaker 1: Tyra do? And Tyra would stand up for herself and say,
- 24:02Speaker 1: look like happy to continue on, but like I just
- 24:05Speaker 1: want to voice this, like I don't feel comfortable anyway.
- 24:09Speaker 1: She spoke up for herself and they were like there
- 24:11Speaker 1: is a crew of like fifty people here, like you know,
- 24:14Speaker 1: we're on a schedule, and she was like okay anyway,
- 24:18Speaker 1: So she obviously was very uncomfortable continued on with the shoot,
- 24:21Speaker 1: but then afterwards was like crying. And then when they
- 24:25Speaker 1: showed like the final shots at the end, they chose
- 24:29Speaker 1: one where the man who she felt especially uncomfortable by
- 24:32Speaker 1: was literally holding both of her legs and she was
- 24:36Speaker 1: like why would you pick that photo?
- 24:39Speaker 2: Like, if anything, that.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Just proves my point that he was touching me inappropriately,
- 24:44Speaker 1: but then also you're just like shoving it in my
- 24:46Speaker 1: face again, Like.
- 24:47Speaker 2: There was lots of instances like that where.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Either people would have trauma prior to the show or
- 24:53Speaker 1: during the show, and the producers would use that as
- 24:57Speaker 1: part of the story. And I was just like, that
- 24:59Speaker 1: is so like, it's just so wild that but it
- 25:05Speaker 1: makes sense, like of course that's what they were doing.
- 25:08Speaker 1: But when we were watching it back in the day,
- 25:10Speaker 1: we didn't have that same lens or level of understanding
- 25:13Speaker 1: of how reality TV worked and that it is all storyboarding,
- 25:17Speaker 1: like none of these things happened.
- 25:19Speaker 3: By access, Like, yeah, the fact is like when people
- 25:22Speaker 3: have a breakdown, when people are really upset, it's from
- 25:25Speaker 3: puppeteering of producers.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's just gross.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:29Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 25:30Speaker 1: In terms of Tyr, I felt like she did have
- 25:32Speaker 1: some She at least wasn't being like, oh what it
- 25:36Speaker 1: was fine, Like, you know, she at least kind of
- 25:40Speaker 1: owned up to some of it, but it just felt
- 25:42Speaker 1: a little bit performative. Yeah, I don't know, But then again,
- 25:46Speaker 1: like I don't know her, but as a view I
- 25:48Speaker 1: was watching it and I was like, how much of this,
- 25:50Speaker 1: do you really mean or are you really accepting? I
- 25:53Speaker 1: do think though, that they did pin a lot of
- 25:56Speaker 1: the blame on her, Like she was definitely villainized in
- 25:59Speaker 1: the documentary. And I'm not saying whether that's like right
- 26:04Speaker 1: or wrong, or that she didn't have a part in it,
- 26:06Speaker 1: but that's kind of what it was all pinned on her,
- 26:09Speaker 1: whereas I'm like, there would be a whole team of people,
- 26:11Speaker 1: and yes they did address you know, some of the producers,
- 26:14Speaker 1: and you know, they did have some of them, but
- 26:16Speaker 1: I do think the majority of the blame was put
- 26:18Speaker 1: on her, which makes sense because she then opened the
- 26:21Speaker 1: conversation of being like cool, the only woman that's involved
- 26:24Speaker 1: in the show is then the biggest villain. And it's
- 26:27Speaker 1: interesting because you know, she speaks about the intentions of
- 26:30Speaker 1: the show and that she started it because when she
- 26:35Speaker 1: was coming up as a model and as a black
- 26:37Speaker 1: woman who also didn't have the stereotypical model body shape
- 26:41Speaker 1: of the time, she was like, I wanted to open
- 26:44Speaker 1: doors for other people like me. So the show at
- 26:47Speaker 1: the time she did open up a lot of doors
- 26:49Speaker 1: for people. But it's like, like it was just so
- 26:52Speaker 1: fucked back then that it's like how could you even
- 26:55Speaker 1: look at some of the things that they were doing
- 26:57Speaker 1: and say that that was progressive, Like it's actually it's
- 27:00Speaker 1: really sad. But also another interesting part of it was
- 27:04Speaker 1: they obviously interviewed a lot of the models and they
- 27:06Speaker 1: were talking about how after the show, being on America's
- 27:10Speaker 1: Next Top Model didn't offer them opportunities.
- 27:13Speaker 2: If anything, it completely hindered their careers really yeah.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Including some of the people who won, so they would
- 27:20Speaker 1: win contracts with modeling agencies, for example, and one of
- 27:24Speaker 1: them moved into one of those like modeling houses that
- 27:26Speaker 1: the agencies put up, and there's like a bunch of
- 27:28Speaker 1: models who lived together and then they all get booked.
- 27:30Speaker 1: And she was saying that one of the other models
- 27:33Speaker 1: who ended up being really popular and I forget her name,
- 27:35Speaker 1: but she was a judge on RuPaul's Drag Race one season.
- 27:38Speaker 1: She's really beautiful, but she was saying that she had
- 27:41Speaker 1: been booked for a bunch of shows and then she
- 27:43Speaker 1: would ask like, why isn't she getting booked And the
- 27:46Speaker 1: agent was like, because nobody wants to work with the
- 27:50Speaker 1: American Nexttop Model contestants, Like they're not taken seriously.
- 27:54Speaker 2: They're kind of like blacklisted from the industry.
- 27:57Speaker 1: So a lot of the people either like had experiences
- 28:00Speaker 1: from the modeling that they did on the show and
- 28:03Speaker 1: then just didn't want to do it anymore, or they
- 28:05Speaker 1: were like tired with this same brush.
- 28:07Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Like RuPaul's drag Race is like the complete opposite
- 28:11Speaker 1: because it's like queens go on there. It's like, yeah,
- 28:14Speaker 1: winning is great, but the goal is more to like
- 28:16Speaker 1: spend more time on the show, yeah, and build their
- 28:19Speaker 1: like personal brand. Yeah, because then they get book taps,
- 28:23Speaker 1: and that's why a lot of queens go on the
- 28:24Speaker 1: show again and again.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Yeah, on All Stars.
- 28:26Speaker 1: And they also were saying because all of the challenges,
- 28:29Speaker 1: especially as the seasons went.
- 28:30Speaker 2: On, just got more and more ridiculous. Oh oh my god,
- 28:33Speaker 2: they're insane.
- 28:33Speaker 1: They were like, I can't even use these as part
- 28:35Speaker 1: of my portfolio because I'm not in situations where any
- 28:39Speaker 1: other model would be put like nobody is using this
- 28:42Speaker 1: in the real world. Yeah, and like the makeup and
- 28:45Speaker 1: the styling and the actual like scenes of the photo shoots,
- 28:48Speaker 1: they couldn't even use that.
- 28:49Speaker 3: It was always so crazy when they would do those
- 28:51Speaker 3: makeover episodes and they'd like shave a girl's head, and
- 28:55Speaker 3: then that day they'd be like, oh, well go home.
- 28:57Speaker 1: There was one girl who she had a gap in
- 29:00Speaker 1: her teeth and so beautiful, and they made her close
- 29:04Speaker 1: it and she said no. At first during the she
- 29:07Speaker 1: really stood her ground and was like, no, I love
- 29:09Speaker 1: my gap, like it's beautiful.
- 29:11Speaker 2: And then Tyra was like, if you don't do this,
- 29:14Speaker 2: you're going home. Yeah, pretty much.
- 29:15Speaker 1: And then she and in the interviews after the fact,
- 29:17Speaker 1: she was like, well, that's what I had been told
- 29:20Speaker 1: by executives, Like I'd been told if she keeps that gap,
- 29:22Speaker 1: she won't get booked anywhere.
- 29:24Speaker 2: I was trying to look out.
- 29:25Speaker 1: For her, like with the information I was given at
- 29:27Speaker 1: the time, I thought, blah blah. And then a couple
- 29:30Speaker 1: of seasons later there was a girl who had a
- 29:34Speaker 1: little gap in her teeth and they made it bigger,
- 29:36Speaker 1: and they made it bigger.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Fuck off, fuck off. Yeah that's insane. O. Yeah, I'm
- 29:40Speaker 2: gonna watch that documentary show.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh so definitely like trigger warnings, there's lots of
- 29:46Speaker 1: of course, Like they cover a lot of stuff in
- 29:48Speaker 1: terms of inequality, like lack of diversity, body shaming, eating disorders,
- 29:55Speaker 1: mental health issues.
- 29:56Speaker 2: So definitely do your research.
- 29:59Speaker 1: If any of those topics could be potentially triggering to
- 30:01Speaker 1: you before you watch it. But I do, and I
- 30:03Speaker 1: do think that the documentary is definitely not perfect. I
- 30:06Speaker 1: do think it's like sensationalized and there are some things
- 30:08Speaker 1: that I was kind of like, it was a good watch.
- 30:11Speaker 1: I'm glad I watched it. I'll report back, Yeah, let
- 30:14Speaker 1: me know.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Okay, my next obsession of the month is drug store makeup.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Ooh.
- 30:22Speaker 3: So, I know we don't really call it drug store
- 30:24Speaker 3: makeup in Australia, but it's basically like affordable makeup that
- 30:27Speaker 3: you get at the phar pharmacy.
- 30:29Speaker 2: But I feel like we don't really have like a
- 30:31Speaker 2: term for it.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that some young Australians still call it
- 30:36Speaker 1: drug store, but yeah, like I don't really because drug
- 30:39Speaker 1: store is also such like.
- 30:41Speaker 2: A old term.
- 30:44Speaker 3: If you're going getting tampons, you don't go, oh, I'm
- 30:46Speaker 3: going to the drug store. There you go, I'm going
- 30:48Speaker 3: to pharmacy. Yeah you're going I'm going to girl buddings exactly.
- 30:52Speaker 1: However, I am also not the only one obsessed because
- 30:55Speaker 1: there's been a twelve point four percent increase in consumer
- 30:59Speaker 1: spending at farm to see retailers yeah, And in a
- 31:02Speaker 1: twenty nineteenth study, it found that one in four women
- 31:06Speaker 1: buy cosmetics from price Line.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Well I know, and I was like, hello, Hello.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I would argue that four and four women by cosmetics
- 31:18Speaker 1: from Priceline or Chemeras Waarouse or Amazon or whatever, because
- 31:24Speaker 1: the price of beauty and makeup is getting insane.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 3: The price of Victoria Beckham's foundation, Like what was it, It
- 31:34Speaker 3: was like one hundred and twenty eight dollars or something.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Yeah, wild, absolutely crazy.
- 31:38Speaker 3: And I think, especially after doing that episode on the
- 31:40Speaker 3: cost of being a woman and you know how expensive
- 31:44Speaker 3: it is to have an appearance to be taken seriously,
- 31:48Speaker 3: which go listen to that for more context around that,
- 31:51Speaker 3: I'm like, don't want to spend that much money. Like, yeah,
- 31:53Speaker 3: there are definitely some foundations and things that are a
- 31:56Speaker 3: little bit more expensive that I do love. That's not
- 31:58Speaker 3: to say that there are products that aren't drug store
- 32:02Speaker 3: makeup that I am like, no, I'm never using it again.
- 32:05Speaker 2: But I'm just I'm loving what I've got rocking at
- 32:08Speaker 2: the moment.
- 32:09Speaker 3: So I've got a list, Yeah, hit me, I've got
- 32:11Speaker 3: a list of my obsessions. So the new cover Girl,
- 32:15Speaker 3: illuminating Bronza. As you cheeks know, I am like a
- 32:18Speaker 3: ride or die for the hour Glass Bronze A but
- 32:21Speaker 3: that motherfucker is one hundred and one dollars, which you know,
- 32:24Speaker 3: when I've got a birthday voucher.
- 32:26Speaker 2: She's coming with me.
- 32:27Speaker 1: But it does last a really long time, like you
- 32:30Speaker 1: probably only need to buy it twice a year.
- 32:32Speaker 2: But it's still very expensive.
- 32:33Speaker 3: But I've never been able to find something that was
- 32:35Speaker 3: as good as it, and I would always end up
- 32:37Speaker 3: buying like cheaper bronzes and then they would never be
- 32:40Speaker 3: as good. And so by the time I ended up
- 32:43Speaker 3: buying all these bronzes that I wanted it.
- 32:44Speaker 2: To be like that, I could have actually just bought
- 32:46Speaker 2: the Hourglass one.
- 32:47Speaker 3: However, I think I've finally found one that is as
- 32:51Speaker 3: good and I really like. And it's this cover Girl
- 32:54Speaker 3: Bronze Are It just launched into price Lime and it's
- 32:58Speaker 3: twenty five dollars. However at the moment it's fifty percent off,
- 33:02Speaker 3: which is always happening. Yeah, And it's twelve dollars and
- 33:06Speaker 3: forty seven cents or something like that. And it is
- 33:09Speaker 3: so good, it blends so well, it's so illuminating.
- 33:14Speaker 2: I'm wearing it right now, beautiful, thank you. How does
- 33:17Speaker 2: it last? We'll find out, won't we.
- 33:21Speaker 1: But I wore it yesterday and I felt like it
- 33:23Speaker 1: lasted really well and it didn't get patchy. I find
- 33:26Speaker 1: that my face like eats makeup, especially bronze, and by
- 33:29Speaker 1: like three hours.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Later, it'll be like where it was just gone. Yeah,
- 33:33Speaker 2: patches book.
- 33:34Speaker 3: My next one is another new launch, the Knick's Lipliner
- 33:38Speaker 3: lip Stains.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I've been waiting for these to launch for so long.
- 33:44Speaker 3: It's like an eight hour plus lip stain and they're
- 33:47Speaker 3: so precise and beautiful.
- 33:49Speaker 2: The other one that I've been using recently is the Nick's.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Butter lip Gloss Pen that is just such an easy
- 33:56Speaker 1: product to use and you just like click it up
- 33:59Speaker 1: and it's like a lip glossy lipstick.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Love it so hydrating. The Nude by Nature Foundation, Oh yeah,
- 34:07Speaker 3: so good. It lasts twelve hours.
- 34:10Speaker 1: It's hydrating in formula and like full coverage, very buildable,
- 34:14Speaker 1: like light, like medium coverage.
- 34:17Speaker 3: To full that you could build it up for an
- 34:19Speaker 3: evening or you can wear it. I don't know why
- 34:21Speaker 3: I said it like that evening.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Apparently you can't say it.
- 34:27Speaker 2: And the other.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Mad and then the Lorier, Loomy Glosian, come on now,
- 34:37Speaker 1: come on. So that's like a very similar finish to
- 34:41Speaker 1: the Charlotte Tillbury Floors filter the closest match, the closest match, right.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I found they've actually come out with like bronzing sticks
- 34:48Speaker 1: now too.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Yep. At those of the lists, we'll put links to
- 34:56Speaker 2: everything in the show. No, absolutely absolute, Like alright.
- 35:00Speaker 1: This is kind of cheating because I didn't actually get
- 35:02Speaker 1: this in February. But it's the cotton on Billy off
- 35:06Speaker 1: the shoulder T shirt. Oh, Mike, I can vouch that
- 35:11Speaker 1: this is an obsession for you.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Yeah, So the show is twenty four to ninety nine
- 35:16Speaker 1: and it's one hundred percent cotton. And the reason that
- 35:20Speaker 1: al saying that she can vouch is because I think
- 35:22Speaker 1: I wear this T shirt at least three times a week.
- 35:26Speaker 1: I concur and I have done for the last six months. Yes,
- 35:29Speaker 1: and it is incredible, And I wash it every time.
- 35:33Speaker 2: It's not washed it once. People she's stinky.
- 35:37Speaker 1: No, but I've washed it every time and it hasn't
- 35:39Speaker 1: lost its shape at all.
- 35:40Speaker 2: It hasn't lost its color at all.
- 35:42Speaker 1: And I know that off the shoulder shirts are very
- 35:45Speaker 1: much an on trend.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Item at the moment. I've always loved a slutty shoulder.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Sluody shoulder is part of the capital wardrobe in our opinion.
- 35:54Speaker 1: But if you are looking to buy that either because
- 35:57Speaker 1: you want to, you know, you've been seeing a lot
- 35:58Speaker 1: of people styling it, and you want to to get
- 36:00Speaker 1: your shelter out, you want to get.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Your shoulder out. Come on, you've got a slutty shoulder.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Let you free face.
- 36:05Speaker 1: It's begging to come out, begging, rip out that shoulder.
- 36:10Speaker 1: You know, I've seen like lots of other alternatives out
- 36:12Speaker 1: there on the market, and for one hundred percent cotton
- 36:15Speaker 1: like that is very affordable and also cotton always does
- 36:19Speaker 1: sales too, so keep an eye out for it.
- 36:21Speaker 2: I think also the fact that you know you have
- 36:23Speaker 2: washed it a billion times and it's.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Still got its shape, it's also such a credit to
- 36:28Speaker 1: the quality.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. Yeah, so add it to the to come.
- 36:33Speaker 1: I'm surprised it took so long for it, and I
- 36:36Speaker 1: was like, what have I truly been obsessed with? And
- 36:39Speaker 1: I'm it is dome And I walked up.
- 36:43Speaker 2: To the top of Pride Rock and instead.
- 36:45Speaker 4: Of simper logging the same time, like I started at
- 36:58Speaker 4: the same time.
- 36:59Speaker 2: That you were making the pride my god.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Anyway, Well, I think it's I think we got to
- 37:08Speaker 1: wrap it up here, I do.
- 37:09Speaker 2: We think soul needs to go for a walk.
- 37:13Speaker 3: I need to do like a little And you're like,
- 37:16Speaker 3: go run a rand outside.
- 37:17Speaker 2: I'll time you.
- 37:18Speaker 1: I had like some red cordial in private this morning. Yeah,
- 37:22Speaker 1: we get cordial for the office too, Yeah, but I
- 37:24Speaker 1: would request green cordial.
- 37:28Speaker 2: I was gonna say the same thing. I was like,
- 37:30Speaker 2: can we get line though? Okay? Perfect?
- 37:32Speaker 1: Anyone that says red cordial is better than green cordial.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Lime is superior all the way out. With heaps of
- 37:38Speaker 2: ice in it. Did you ever have that, have that
- 37:40Speaker 2: plastic jug that had the color?
- 37:48Speaker 1: Stop looking at me like that and you would twist
- 37:52Speaker 1: it around and it had like one of the openings
- 37:55Speaker 1: had like the grates, and then one of.
- 37:57Speaker 2: The like a thing, and then the other one yes,
- 38:00Speaker 2: and then like a square. Let it flow, all right?
- 38:07Speaker 1: Cool?
- 38:07Speaker 2: Add that to the shopping list.
- 38:09Speaker 1: I missed that. And when it had heaps of ice
- 38:12Speaker 1: in it, because your muma est made it fresh, my
- 38:15Speaker 1: mouth fresh watering fresh.
- 38:19Speaker 5: Okay, Well, on that note, pure, On that note, it's
- 38:27Speaker 5: a wrap for another episode of Two Broke Cheeks.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Thanks for having us in ear holes. We love to
- 38:32Speaker 2: be here, xoxo. I wanted to cupe it
