Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We live in a world that seemingly, seemingly is spelling
- 0:04Speaker 1: over with hate and division at the moment. You don't
- 0:06Speaker 1: have to look far to find it. Just in the
- 0:07Speaker 1: past few days. Look at this nineteen year old ISIS
- 0:10Speaker 1: inspired terror suspect planning to kill himself and as many
- 0:14Speaker 1: Taylor Swift fans as possible. You've got rioting, You've got
- 0:17Speaker 1: division on the streets of UK. Australia has raised its
- 0:22Speaker 1: terror threat level. Remember that sixteen year old teenager who
- 0:27Speaker 1: stabbed a religious cleric in Australia, suspected religious extremism behind it.
- 0:34Speaker 1: You've got Trump. Remember this was only last month. Yeah,
- 0:50Speaker 1: it's almost like we've forgotten about that, isn't it, Because
- 0:53Speaker 1: there's so much going on. They all have one thing
- 0:55Speaker 1: in common, the Internet. You know, this nineteen year old
- 1:00Speaker 1: Isis would be mass murderer. He and his two alleged
- 1:03Speaker 1: teenage accomplices, they were serious. They had chemical explosives, they
- 1:08Speaker 1: had detonateds Allegedly, they were radicalized online. The UK riots
- 1:13Speaker 1: fueled by false information about that stabbing suspect. They were
- 1:17Speaker 1: all raked up, fired up by being on the Internet.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Where did it all happen? Online? Australia. Remember those seven
- 1:24Speaker 1: teenagers arrested in April for alleged extremist ideology. All happened online.
- 1:31Speaker 1: I could go on, but you get the point. Young
- 1:34Speaker 1: impressionable minds, endless scrolling on social media, and it's the
- 1:39Speaker 1: wild West of content. Every kid has a mental health
- 1:42Speaker 1: problem these days. If you noticed that, turn on the news.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Everyone's sad and why Well, it's obviously, isn't it the internet?
- 1:51Speaker 1: Isn't it our phones? And what are we doing about it?
- 1:56Speaker 1: And this is what happens when you scroll on a
- 1:58Speaker 1: phone and you don't and you argue with somebody and
- 2:01Speaker 1: you don't look them in the eye. You know, you
- 2:03Speaker 1: don't talk to them face to face. You don't moderate
- 2:06Speaker 1: your thoughts with body language and facial expressions and all
- 2:10Speaker 1: those important things that I think help to make our
- 2:14Speaker 1: debates a bit more human. We lose all that when
- 2:18Speaker 1: we go online and when we scroll endlessly. Apparently we
- 2:22Speaker 1: will spend between ten years ten to seventeen years of
- 2:25Speaker 1: our lives scrolling on our phones. How sad is that?
- 2:30Speaker 1: And for kids it's worse. So on what have I
- 2:34Speaker 1: done about it? Well, I've deleted the apps on my phone,
- 2:36Speaker 1: The social media apps, And not that I'm saying I'm
- 2:39Speaker 1: going to solve the world, but I'm just seeing if
- 2:42Speaker 1: I'll feel better about the world. And I wonder why
- 2:45Speaker 1: more people aren't doing it. Maybe you are. For more
