- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the rainy porch as it is warm
- 0:32and rainy and unusual for this time of year to be like this.
- 0:37However, we are talking about the spirit of the season today
- 0:42and why is it that as we get older we tend to not want the
- 0:48same types of gifts, You know, when you're little.
- 0:51I mean, when I was little, I could not wait for all the
- 0:53catalogs to come in and sit down and start circling things and
- 0:57telling my mother, oh, I want that or oh, I want this.
- 1:00It was such a big deal for me to be able to go through those
- 1:04catalogs. And yes, I'm showing my age a
- 1:06little bit there because it was prior to the Internet and oh
- 1:10boy, there we go catalogs. Anyway, it for me, it was such a
- 1:15big deal. I, I, I think it was my
- 1:18precursor to doing all of my vision boarding and, you know,
- 1:22cutting things out, circling things, having a big nice
- 1:24sharpie going around in it. And I used to have such a list
- 1:29as my father would call it, the hall, you know, the Christmas
- 1:32hall. And I just loved being able to
- 1:34do that. And it was so much fun.
- 1:36And whether I got them or not, it was just fun to do that.
- 1:39And over the years, you notice that you just, you know, don't
- 1:43see things the same way. You don't want things the same
- 1:46type of things you want. Maybe you want less, maybe you
- 1:48just want one thing, maybe you don't want something at all and
- 1:51maybe you just want to give. And one of the things that I've
- 1:54noticed about myself is if I'm doing something, if I want
- 1:58something, it's typically for one of my hobbies that I'm going
- 2:02to be able to get better at. Like there's always a growth
- 2:06component in it for me. And that I think it's just it,
- 2:10it could be just me, but it could also be just the growth
- 2:12process of getting older. And as we get older, I think one
- 2:16of the biggest things that I noticed, the biggest distinction
- 2:19is I want to be able to do things that contribute for other
- 2:22people like this podcast. I've said this in the past, I
- 2:26make 0 money off this podcast because for me, this is a gift.
- 2:31This is a total give back. This is a total thing that lets
- 2:34people have a touch point every day to put themselves in the
- 2:39right state of mind. So it's a total give back and I
- 2:42love doing it. If I didn't, I wouldn't continue
- 2:45to do it. But for me, it's a huge thing.
- 2:47But I also love to be able to give the eggs away from the
- 2:50chickens. I also love to be able to give
- 2:52flowers away and vegetables away.
- 2:54And I love to be able to do any of the nurturing type things
- 2:58that come from growing and expanding.
- 3:01That nurture part of me is huge. It just, it's just I can't help
- 3:06it. I will take in any animal, I
- 3:08will take in any sick plant. I will work on all of it.
- 3:14And when I do those things, they fill me back up.
- 3:18So part of the exciting thing about going into the season is
- 3:23being able to watch other people when you give something to them,
- 3:27when you see their delight. And I know I regularly take eggs
- 3:34over to the fire station. And when I give those
- 3:37firefighters the eggs that the look on their face, they always
- 3:40are just so grateful and tell me how wonderful they are.
- 3:43And it just, it fills me up. I don't need anything else other
- 3:48than that. So this is an exploratory
- 3:51thought for you today. What are the things that you're
- 3:53doing regularly like that, that you can know fill somebody up
- 3:59and in the port in, in, in the in the vein of filling people up
- 4:04in the portion of your life where you get to go do that
- 4:06most? For most of us, it's really
- 4:08small because we're so hunkered down in our habits of what we do
- 4:12during the day and how we do it and we don't get to do those
- 4:16fill UPS. I think from my own perspective,
- 4:19that's why I love spoiling my chickens and my animals so much
- 4:23because I do that every day. I'm constantly like, when I am
- 4:27done with this with you, I will go and make their platters for
- 4:30breakfast for them. And it's kind of like I said,
- 4:33it's rainy and warm, so they have to have something that's
- 4:35not going to mess with that rain.
- 4:39So I'll do shredded vegetables today, which is zucchini and
- 4:43carrots. And then they'll have some chia
- 4:45seeds with it and bananas. And I put it on platters and I
- 4:48bring it to them and I feel good giving them that every day.
- 4:50I don't need to give them that. They have tons of food in their
- 4:53coop. They can eat whatever they want
- 4:55whenever they want it and they are free ranging so they can go
- 4:58hunt for bugs and things all day long.
- 5:01I do that because I want to spoil them and I love seeing
- 5:04them come running. It makes every day, twice a day
- 5:07they get snacks and twice a day I get to fill up.
- 5:11And I know I'm on the higher end of that fill up factor with, you
- 5:16know, giving. And even if I'm just giving to
- 5:18chickens or just giving to my dogs, that fill up factor
- 5:22matters. So I'm going to ask you to
- 5:25figure out where's your fill up factor and how often are you
- 5:28doing it? And are you only doing it once a
- 5:30year? And goodness gracious, if you
- 5:32are, I'll tell you, you're robbing yourself from the
- 5:34experience. That's wonderful of doing it
- 5:36more often. So go find that fill up factor.
- 5:39Give the gift of that to yourself because it really does
- 5:42matter. All right, my friends, I'll see
- 5:44you tomorrow. Have a blessed day.
- 5:45Bye.
