Latest / Movie Meltdown / 71.1: Easter Eggstravaganza!
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This morning we're going to be talking about how society
- 0:02Speaker 1: altered Easter. There are some out there that want you
- 0:04Speaker 1: to believe that Easter is about a rabbit and some eggs.
- 0:07Speaker 1: But Easter is more than about some rabbits jumping around
- 0:10Speaker 1: giving eggs to kids.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Easter is about.
- 0:12Speaker 3: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:15Speaker 3: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:20Speaker 3: and parental discretion is advised. Our nuclear reactor pumping out
- 0:25Speaker 3: one million kilowatts of power.
- 0:53Speaker 4: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.
- 0:54Speaker 5: I'm Roger.
- 0:55Speaker 6: I am Misty.
- 0:55Speaker 7: I'm Jay.
- 0:56Speaker 6: This is Rod.
- 0:56Speaker 7: And Marlena.
- 1:13Speaker 6: All right, we have a full boat today.
- 1:15Speaker 8: Nice.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Are we all going to fit in the theater?
- 1:19Speaker 6: We're cramming ourselves in there, whether we like it or not.
- 1:21Speaker 8: It'll be lap-on-lap action.
- 1:23Speaker 6: I brought my shoe home. It'll be a reminder of yesterday,
- 1:26Speaker 6: so we'll get to that in a minute. This is
- 1:29Speaker 6: our special Easter extravaganza, so of course, being many of
- 1:34Speaker 6: our holiday situations, we've got to bust out some candy,
- 1:37Speaker 6: so hold on.
- 1:38Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:40Speaker 8: I didn't even think about it until you said something.
- 1:43Speaker 2: That's how things work. It's a holiday. Give me some food, bitches.
- 1:47Speaker 9: Is he going to trick us and just give us
- 1:48Speaker 9: raw onions?
- 1:49Speaker 2: Boiled eggs.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Probably.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Mmm, delish.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Peeps are disgusting.
- 1:55Speaker 7: Boiled eggs.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I want good Easter candy.
- 1:57Speaker 9: I beat my peep addiction, Brian. You're going to do
- 1:59Speaker 9: this to me?
- 2:00Speaker 6: I didn't say you had it.
- 2:02Speaker 9: See, remember that time you got in my car and
- 2:04Speaker 9: there was like nothing but empty peeps boxes?
- 2:08Speaker 2: It was sad is what it was.
- 2:09Speaker 9: I don't even think I like peeps anymore, but I'm
- 2:13Speaker 9: going to eat one anyway.
- 2:15Speaker 5: My grandma likes them, but only if she opens them
- 2:17Speaker 5: and lets them sit for like two weeks first, then
- 2:19Speaker 5: she likes to eat them.
- 2:19Speaker 8: I want a peach s'more.
- 2:21Speaker 9: You know what?
- 2:22Speaker 8: I like crunchy peaches.
- 2:24Speaker 7: Why wasn't Fox taking advantage of Easter to release chocolate
- 2:27Speaker 7: alien eggs?
- 2:28Speaker 4: That's what I want to know.
- 2:29Speaker 9: I want an Easter candy in a Halloween dish.
- 2:32Speaker 2: You're at Brian's house.
- 2:33Speaker 6: Yeah, that's kind of how I roll, actually. All of
- 2:35Speaker 6: my other, if you guys noticed, the Christmas candy was
- 2:37Speaker 6: in there, too, so. My only serving dishes are shaped
- 2:41Speaker 6: like ghosts and skeletons, I hate to tell you. So
- 2:43Speaker 6: if you're getting candy, it's coming in a ghost or
- 2:45Speaker 6: a skeleton. All right, so now that we're all hopped
- 2:50Speaker 6: up on sugar, we will continue on. So this week's
- 2:53Speaker 6: geek activities, I think at least three of us here
- 2:57Speaker 6: are all going to have one big intertwined mess of
- 2:59Speaker 6: geek activities.
- 3:00Speaker 7: I missed at the last minute. I didn't feel so
- 3:02Speaker 7: well Friday night, so I skipped out on this trip to.
- 3:05Speaker 6: Horror Hound weekend.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 2: And Indianapolis.
- 3:08Speaker 6: All right. Yeah, time for the road trip.
- 3:09Speaker 8: All right.
- 3:10Speaker 7: But I can't wait to hear about.
- 3:11Speaker 6: It, though. Well, first of all.
- 3:13Speaker 5: You had to rise at the break of friggin' dawn.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Let's get that out of the way first. Misty does
- 3:17Speaker 5: not rise before 6 o'clock.
- 3:19Speaker 7: What do you think I said?
- 3:21Speaker 6: Yeah, I was the only person who was okay with
- 3:24Speaker 6: getting up then. The other two of these members here
- 3:27Speaker 6: were not so thrilled about the departure time.
- 3:29Speaker 7: Well, it's a two-hour drive. Brian had an interview at
- 3:32Speaker 7: 9 o'clock in the morning... So it just sounded like
- 3:36Speaker 7: a disaster.
- 3:37Speaker 6: And we left at 7.30, so do the math. So
- 3:41Speaker 6: I had to use the hot tub time machine to
- 3:43Speaker 6: create time between here and Indianapolis and actually get me
- 3:47Speaker 6: there on time. So I actually... Somehow did. I don't
- 3:50Speaker 6: know if I circled the earth and turned back time.
- 3:52Speaker 9: You drove 90 miles an hour.
- 3:53Speaker 6: Oh, or I just drove really fast.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Maybe that was it.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Which is odd because Brian usually drives slower than my grandma.
- 3:59Speaker 5: So actually going the speed limit, not only just going
- 4:01Speaker 5: the speed limit, but going 80 to 90 miles an hour,
- 4:04Speaker 5: I was afraid for my life. And if I hadn't
- 4:06Speaker 5: been more asleep, then yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 6: I was kind of enjoying it.
- 4:10Speaker 9: I just knocked out the whole first row of the peeps.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Out of control.
- 4:14Speaker 2: And it has begun again.
- 4:15Speaker 8: Wow.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Now she's going to have to go to peep AA again.
- 4:19Speaker 6: I'm Marlena, and I love peeps.
- 4:22Speaker 10: Hi, Marlena.
- 4:23Speaker 9: You need to be a PA. Peeps and honors.
- 4:25Speaker 8: Don't peeps, like, solidify in your poop and make it, like,
- 4:27Speaker 8: hard to poop?
- 4:28Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 4:29Speaker 6: I don't know if that's on the package. Warning.
- 4:33Speaker 8: It's, like, the opposite of Olean, Olestra, Fetal, Rectal, Sympathetic.
- 4:39Speaker 8: Rectal pluggage.
- 4:40Speaker 7: Pluggage. Anyway.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Gas with marshmallow discharge.
- 4:45Speaker 8: Oh, we're always that kind of joke. Yeah, really.
- 4:48Speaker 6: And I have sugar-coated poop.
- 4:52Speaker 8: Oh, Lord.
- 4:54Speaker 6: So, yeah, we actually did make it there. Sort of
- 4:57Speaker 6: had breakfast with Sid Haig, so that was awesome.
- 5:01Speaker 7: That's cool.
- 5:01Speaker 9: Nice.
- 5:01Speaker 6: Eggs with the egg in. Well, they messed up his egg, so.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Oh, right.
- 5:05Speaker 8: It seems like he has bourbon for breakfast.
- 5:07Speaker 6: In the bedroom. Not while I was there. I think
- 5:10Speaker 6: there were some orange juice involved. It was a pretty
- 5:12Speaker 6: standard breakfast, so that I don't know.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Yes.
- 5:16Speaker 6: More Reese eggs there.
- 5:17Speaker 9: I haven't eaten anything yet, okay?
- 5:21Speaker 6: I need some too, but I'm still yammering on here.
- 5:23Speaker 9: Oh, it's leaky.
- 5:25Speaker 8: So.
- 5:30Speaker 7: So how did they mess up Sid's eggs?
- 5:32Speaker 6: They just got them wrong. How do you do eggs wrong?
- 5:35Speaker 7: I mean, they're scrambled.
- 5:36Speaker 4: It's pretty easy.
- 5:36Speaker 6: If they're supposed to be over easy and they're not
- 5:38Speaker 6: over easy. If they're over medium, I don't remember what
- 5:41Speaker 6: the variation was, but they messed it up.
- 5:43Speaker 9: Just so many different ways to make eggs.
- 5:44Speaker 6: We had issues with that restaurant all day, actually, because
- 5:47Speaker 6: their buffet kind of sucked, too. But anyway. I don't know.
- 5:51Speaker 6: Where all do we want to go with this one?
- 5:52Speaker 9: Am I allowed to say Tom Savini, I know for
- 5:55Speaker 9: a fact, does not wash his hands after he uses
- 5:57Speaker 9: the bathroom? And then he was totally touching everything on
- 6:00Speaker 9: the buffet.
- 6:01Speaker 7: I don't know how you know.
- 6:03Speaker 9: I've heard from several sources.
- 6:04Speaker 8: His hands smell like.
- 6:06Speaker 7: You were in the men's restroom when Tom Savini was
- 6:08Speaker 7: in the restroom.
- 6:09Speaker 8: I've heard from several sources.
- 6:10Speaker 9: At least three different people have confirmed that they have
- 6:13Speaker 9: been in the restroom while Tom Savini was in the
- 6:15Speaker 9: restroom and he left without washing his hands.
- 6:18Speaker 8: Lots of people do.
- 6:20Speaker 6: Yeah, it's sad.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I wash my hands every time. I even go near
- 6:23Speaker 2: a bathroom.
- 6:23Speaker 8: I just sterilize it with my own pee.
- 6:27Speaker 4: It wasn't dirty when you touched it. Your hands get
- 6:30Speaker 4: dirty all of a sudden.
- 6:31Speaker 6: On this note, my favorite thing about the weekend is
- 6:34Speaker 6: on the table as you come in, they're taking your
- 6:36Speaker 6: money and giving you your little wristband, and they're selling T-shirts,
- 6:39Speaker 6: and the only other thing they're selling on that table
- 6:41Speaker 6: are bottles of Purell.
- 6:43Speaker 9: Wow.
- 6:43Speaker 6: I was like, they know this is a dirty crowd.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I came with my own Bureau.
- 6:47Speaker 6: Yes, sadly. We knew that was coming. But yeah, I
- 6:49Speaker 6: just like that they know going in. They're like, you're
- 6:51Speaker 6: going to want to.
- 6:53Speaker 9: Dirty bastards.
- 6:53Speaker 6: You're going to want to kill some germs while you're
- 6:56Speaker 6: at this place because you've seen... Look around you. I mean, Jesus,
- 6:58Speaker 6: you've seen the rest of these people. I include us
- 7:01Speaker 6: in that mixture. Nice.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Which are we going to put first as far as
- 7:04Speaker 2: the crowd-wise?
- 7:06Speaker 6: Crowd, I guess you want to go with the problem
- 7:08Speaker 6: with the crowd first?
- 7:10Speaker 2: Oh, good Lord. Let's start with the problem.
- 7:12Speaker 6: Okay.
- 7:13Speaker 7: I heard there was a huge crowd.
- 7:16Speaker 6: That would be the problem.
- 7:18Speaker 7: That's good for the convention.
- 7:20Speaker 6: Well, but here's the thing. I've been to these pretty
- 7:22Speaker 6: much every time. I don't know if I've missed one
- 7:24Speaker 6: in Indy since they started doing these, and it's gotten
- 7:26Speaker 6: bigger every time. And the last at least three times,
- 7:30Speaker 6: each time it gets bigger, and I'm like, okay, they're
- 7:32Speaker 6: going to have to do something about this. It's getting
- 7:35Speaker 6: to where... You can't get through. I mean, the lines
- 7:37Speaker 6: for the autographs are out into the row. You can't
- 7:40Speaker 6: get through the row. People can't get to the tables
- 7:42Speaker 6: to buy stuff because people are loitering in front of
- 7:44Speaker 6: them talking.
- 7:44Speaker 8: Nobody's paying attention to what anybody else is doing.
- 7:47Speaker 7: That's your perspective. I know some people that run cons,
- 7:50Speaker 7: and they probably were just giggly happy. They like long lines.
- 7:54Speaker 7: It makes them look successful. It makes the celebrities look popular.
- 7:58Speaker 7: tons of people coming in means lots of cash flowing around.
- 8:01Speaker 6: I don't mind the lines as much as you can't
- 8:03Speaker 6: get through is the problem. And they probably liked it
- 8:07Speaker 6: up until this past year because this year the fire
- 8:09Speaker 6: marshal showed up.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Uh-oh.
- 8:11Speaker 6: This year they said this room has reached capacity. So
- 8:15Speaker 6: if you want to get in, you wait in the
- 8:17Speaker 6: line until people come out.
- 8:19Speaker 7: Oh, God.
- 8:20Speaker 6: There was a line all the way out into the lobby.
- 8:22Speaker 6: That's what I've said. That's a problem. That's when they've
- 8:25Speaker 6: gone too far.
- 8:25Speaker 7: You have to know how big your convention is growing
- 8:28Speaker 7: in terms of number of people in space. to to
- 8:31Speaker 7: be able to do that you can't just keep letting people.
- 8:33Speaker 6: In that's that's what i've been saying i'm like every
- 8:36Speaker 6: year i'm like it's getting bigger and it's getting harder
- 8:38Speaker 6: to do all this stuff in this one room so
- 8:40Speaker 6: this is what makes no sense they got a whole
- 8:42Speaker 6: nother room and then they just loaded all the masks
- 8:45Speaker 6: and stuff in it and it was the other and
- 8:46Speaker 6: hardly yeah the mask fest was going on so they
- 8:48Speaker 6: had this whole other room but they didn't put any
- 8:50Speaker 6: of the stuff that all the people were going to
- 8:52Speaker 6: go to it's like they should have divided stuff up
- 8:54Speaker 6: so that half the crowd would have been in that
- 8:56Speaker 6: room half would have been in this one and it
- 8:57Speaker 6: wouldn't have gotten so out of hand but all the
- 8:59Speaker 6: celebrities were in one room yeah and mix it up
- 9:03Speaker 6: i know they don't like to do that but it
- 9:04Speaker 6: would have made more sense.
- 9:05Speaker 7: But those two things were kind of separate yeah together
- 9:08Speaker 7: i mean they were run by different people and stuff
- 9:10Speaker 7: so i assume there were some issues.
- 9:12Speaker 6: Involved probably but if that was the case they should
- 9:14Speaker 6: have gotten a third room and split that stuff.
- 9:16Speaker 9: Up well i think the hotel just they're Their convention
- 9:20Speaker 9: room is just really small. It's like half the size
- 9:22Speaker 9: of where they hold Wonderfest at Executives.
- 9:26Speaker 6: Yeah, it's not big enough for what they're trying to do.
- 9:30Speaker 7: This is only, what, their third or fourth year or
- 9:32Speaker 7: something like that?
- 9:32Speaker 9: I think at least four.
- 9:33Speaker 2: But how they've grown in the past couple years is
- 9:34Speaker 2: just monumental.
- 9:36Speaker 6: And they've been doing like two a year, too. So
- 9:38Speaker 6: it's like they're doing this every time. They should kind
- 9:40Speaker 6: of learn things each show and realize they're getting way
- 9:43Speaker 6: too big for that room.
- 9:44Speaker 8: Was the space as big as last time?
- 9:45Speaker 6: It's that same room.
- 9:46Speaker 8: Oh, okay.
- 9:47Speaker 6: Except it was massively more people. I mean, as crowded
- 9:51Speaker 6: as it was last time, it was probably double that yesterday.
- 9:54Speaker 7: Well, that's funny because you can't take, well, in terms
- 9:57Speaker 7: of conventions, they had some A-listers.
- 9:59Speaker 4: There.
- 9:59Speaker 6: Yeah, they did.
- 10:00Speaker 7: Like Clive Barker and George Romero. Now, they may not
- 10:03Speaker 7: be A-listers in Hollywood right now, but on the convention circuit,
- 10:06Speaker 7: they're A-list guests.
- 10:06Speaker 6: Convention names, that's a huge guest.
- 10:08Speaker 7: That'll be a huge draw for people, so they should
- 10:10Speaker 7: know they're going to bring a lot of people out.
- 10:12Speaker 6: And, I mean, at least they put Clive Barker somewhere else.
- 10:15Speaker 6: We never even saw him. I don't know where the
- 10:17Speaker 6: hell Clive Barker was, but... He was there. He was
- 10:19Speaker 6: down the hallway. He wasn't causing that problem. Elvira was
- 10:22Speaker 6: out in a hallway. I mean, they just shoved her
- 10:24Speaker 6: in a hallway by herself.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Looking all awesome with her big old boobies.
- 10:27Speaker 6: She was awesome, let me tell you.
- 10:29Speaker 2: And Marlena's desire to motorboat her boobs.
- 10:32Speaker 9: Yeah, I was going to pay $ 20 and stand in
- 10:34Speaker 9: line for like four hours for an autograph, but then
- 10:36Speaker 9: I was like... They're not going to let me motorboat her.
- 10:38Speaker 9: What's the point?
- 10:39Speaker 7: Maybe there's an extra fee for that.
- 10:41Speaker 6: I told her that's a much bigger price point, though.
- 10:43Speaker 8: She could have slipped you a note like, you know,
- 10:44Speaker 8: meet me here around the corner later on at this
- 10:46Speaker 8: time so you can get a good... I.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Think that's at least a $ 65 price point. Hey, well, yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 6: you know.
- 10:53Speaker 2: They are fantastic.
- 10:54Speaker 7: They are very, very nice. I don't know.
- 10:57Speaker 6: She really ought to consider that. I mean, she's already
- 10:59Speaker 6: got all those people in line. How many would step
- 11:01Speaker 6: it up a notch and go ahead and pay the $ 65, 000?
- 11:02Speaker 6: Then you'd have to.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Rub the hand sanitizer over Ruby's face.
- 11:05Speaker 5: You don't want secondhand face dirt in there.
- 11:08Speaker 6: You don't want sloppy motorboats in there. Nobody wants that.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Sloppy second motorboats. See, this is the whole problem. That's
- 11:14Speaker 2: why it's pricey.
- 11:14Speaker 4: That and razor burn.
- 11:16Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 11:17Speaker 6: Yeah, that would suck for her after a while.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Guys like Roger.
- 11:20Speaker 8: Yeah, I really love those things. Oh, it should be
- 11:23Speaker 8: like shaped boobs. Shaped cleavage.
- 11:26Speaker 4: You get one of those chin things that guys at
- 11:28Speaker 4: the restaurants wear that have the beards.
- 11:31Speaker 8: Chin nets.
- 11:32Speaker 6: You have to coat everyone in plastic before they do it.
- 11:34Speaker 8: You just pull down to your chin, I guess.
- 11:36Speaker 4: You haven't seen those? Some of the guys that have
- 11:37Speaker 4: the beards, they have a hair net for beards.
- 11:41Speaker 7: So it's a chin strap.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a chin strap. Weird. It's pretty funny. It's
- 11:44Speaker 4: a chin net.
- 11:44Speaker 6: This is what it's come to now. Can't stop my look. Yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 6: that was the main issue with the crowd. Other than that,
- 11:51Speaker 6: I mean, there was a lot of cool people there.
- 11:53Speaker 6: There was a lot of stuff going on. I mean,
- 11:55Speaker 6: it was a good show otherwise.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I met my number one fan. That was pretty fantastic.
- 11:59Speaker 6: That's true. We did spend a lot of time with Randy,
- 12:02Speaker 6: and that's actually a plus.
- 12:04Speaker 2: We met several of our listeners. It was pretty exciting.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Metal Mikey.
- 12:07Speaker 6: Metal Mikey was there.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Wasn't Randy's wife disappointed that she didn't get to see Ron?
- 12:12Speaker 6: We made many, many comments, and... He said you just
- 12:15Speaker 6: wussed out and you were afraid she was going to
- 12:16Speaker 6: kick your ass.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure she could take it.
- 12:19Speaker 7: That was all in good humor. I didn't mean anything
- 12:21Speaker 7: about Randy's wife leaving him or anything like that. I
- 12:24Speaker 7: forgot to say.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Well, we sat there with her the whole time and
- 12:28Speaker 6: She's pretty awesome. She's pretty awesome.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Well, good.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I'm glad.
- 12:32Speaker 6: His lovely wife, Lisa. So, yes, thank you, Lisa, for
- 12:35Speaker 6: showing up and being cordial to the rest of us
- 12:38Speaker 6: and not taking us down.
- 12:39Speaker 9: And letting me borrow your phone charger.
- 12:41Speaker 7: So, did you guys see Richard Lynch? I was kind
- 12:43Speaker 7: of excited about him being there.
- 12:44Speaker 6: I saw him at the table.
- 12:46Speaker 7: Where?
- 12:48Speaker 6: Where was he at? He was down the row.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Oh, so like behind the line for Sid so I
- 12:52Speaker 2: couldn't see him?
- 12:53Speaker 6: No, he was way down at the other end.
- 12:54Speaker 7: A B-movie legend, if you ask me. Yeah, he's... Sword
- 12:56Speaker 7: and the Sorcerer.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Oh, I love him.
- 12:58Speaker 6: He's getting up there.
- 12:59Speaker 7: Oh, I'm sure he's getting up there.
- 13:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I was just like, wow. But yeah, if nothing else,
- 13:03Speaker 6: aside from all the awesome celebrities, yeah, we did have, again,
- 13:07Speaker 6: a little podcasting convention. Like, that's half of what we
- 13:10Speaker 6: did there. It's like we hung out and bugged the
- 13:12Speaker 6: Nightloon podcast crew.
- 13:14Speaker 7: Did you see the Universal Monster Army display? theirs is
- 13:17Speaker 7: always really cool.
- 13:18Speaker 6: I don't know did we was that in the mask
- 13:20Speaker 6: room it was if so is it the same one
- 13:22Speaker 6: that kind of tours around because it looked like the
- 13:24Speaker 6: same setup that they have at wonderfest so yeah i
- 13:26Speaker 6: saw i was just like that's probably gonna be wonderful
- 13:29Speaker 6: i don't think i looked that closely because i knew it.
- 13:30Speaker 7: Was some different stuff it depends on the theme.
- 13:33Speaker 6: They're they did have some some uh some old costumes
- 13:36Speaker 6: and stuff so that was.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Cool yeah that We did see Andy. He was super
- 13:40Speaker 2: adorable in his Sam costume. Which podcast is he from again?
- 13:43Speaker 6: He's from My Living Podcast. I think we all decided
- 13:46Speaker 6: that Andy was adorable in the costume and out. I'm serious.
- 13:50Speaker 2: He had a little butt flap and everything.
- 13:52Speaker 8: Oh, my God. What costume was this?
- 13:54Speaker 2: Sam from Trick or Treat.
- 13:55Speaker 9: Oh.
- 13:55Speaker 2: He was awesome.
- 13:56Speaker 7: Sam Hain character. Wow, that's pretty cool. It was a
- 13:59Speaker 7: great costume. I feel like I've seen a costume of
- 14:00Speaker 7: that character.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:02Speaker 2: He's so adorable as it is. Oh, my gosh.
- 14:05Speaker 6: Can't argue with that, really.
- 14:06Speaker 9: He loves the Asians.
- 14:08Speaker 6: That seems to be the case.
- 14:09Speaker 9: I do.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I do like to be some Asians.
- 14:14Speaker 6: Oh, but yeah, what else? But yeah, we ran into
- 14:17Speaker 6: most of them. Randy, Inquestionable Mike, Metal Mikey, and I
- 14:21Speaker 6: did meet John Schnarz, who's from the Bloody Good Horror,
- 14:25Speaker 6: which he's one of my favorite reviewers, so that was
- 14:27Speaker 6: kind of cool.
- 14:27Speaker 7: Yeah, that's a pretty good saying.
- 14:28Speaker 6: But yeah, I don't know. Any other fun activities this week?
- 14:32Speaker 8: Well, nothing quite so epic as that, but one of
- 14:36Speaker 8: my friends, we got to the bottom that there are many,
- 14:38Speaker 8: many movies that she has not seen that I would
- 14:40Speaker 8: consider a crime against humanity. Basically... Never-ending story she's never seen.
- 14:45Speaker 2: The hell you say.
- 14:46Speaker 8: Exactly.
- 14:47Speaker 4: It's just wrong.
- 14:48Speaker 8: And she's never seen the original Class of the Titans.
- 14:51Speaker 9: Did she not have a childhood?
- 14:52Speaker 8: See, that's what I was like. We kept in a
- 14:53Speaker 8: box under the stairs.
- 14:54Speaker 6: She was robbed of her childhood.
- 14:56Speaker 8: I mean, did you not have a TV? Or you
- 14:58Speaker 8: just had a Betamax player and you had a limited selection? Amish? Yeah.
- 15:03Speaker 8: Came up. But so we sat her down and we
- 15:06Speaker 8: watched the original Class of the Titans, which she hadn't seen,
- 15:09Speaker 8: which also is foreshadowing to the new movie coming out.
- 15:12Speaker 7: And.
- 15:14Speaker 8: You know, we all think it's awesome because we'd seen
- 15:16Speaker 8: it before and we remember nostalgically, like, you know, where
- 15:19Speaker 8: we were when we saw it as kids and how
- 15:21Speaker 8: it amazed us.
- 15:23Speaker 7: You can't sit somebody in front of that movie now.
- 15:25Speaker 8: Yeah, it's just cold. And, you know, she's kind of like,
- 15:28Speaker 8: what the fuck is this? And we're like, it's Clash
- 15:30Speaker 8: of the Titans. And I'm trying to explain, you know,
- 15:33Speaker 8: how awesome the technology was back then to get the effects.
- 15:36Speaker 8: You know, one of my favorite scenes is the Medusa
- 15:39Speaker 8: scene where, you know, not only is it stop animation,
- 15:42Speaker 8: but you have all the light and the reflection and
- 15:45Speaker 8: all that going on at the same time, and it
- 15:47Speaker 8: looks good. It's not like it's some weird calliope on
- 15:51Speaker 8: the Medusa figure. It's really solid. So I'm trying to
- 15:55Speaker 8: play it up, talk it up as we're watching, and
- 15:57Speaker 8: she just was having nothing of it. But I think
- 15:59Speaker 8: she had a good time anyways. So that's kind of
- 16:02Speaker 8: like my, I don't know, my public service.
- 16:06Speaker 6: You just can't get the impact now, really.
- 16:09Speaker 7: No, not at all.
- 16:10Speaker 8: And I forgot how small the scorpions were in the
- 16:14Speaker 8: original version. They're freaking huge in this new movie. They
- 16:17Speaker 8: look like they're titanic. So, yeah, that's pretty much the
- 16:21Speaker 8: extent of my geekery, geekness.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Well, I didn't watch much.
- 16:26Speaker 8: We watched.
- 16:27Speaker 2: A perfect getaway, which was completely predictable. It was okay.
- 16:30Speaker 2: It was enjoyable.
- 16:31Speaker 4: I liked it.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I liked it, but it was one of those, I
- 16:34Speaker 2: knew how it was going to end. When I saw
- 16:35Speaker 2: the trailer, I'm like.
- 16:36Speaker 4: Yeah, we knew how it was going to end during
- 16:38Speaker 4: the trailer.
- 16:38Speaker 7: I had an idea about what was going to happen,
- 16:40Speaker 7: but it didn't really play out exactly the way I thought.
- 16:43Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 16:45Speaker 5: I didn't expect the drug aspect of it, but I
- 16:47Speaker 5: knew how it was going to pretty much end.
- 16:49Speaker 7: I've become a huge Timothy Oliphant fan almost overnight.
- 16:53Speaker 2: He was pretty fantastic.
- 16:54Speaker 7: I like him, and I saw The Crazies, which I loved.
- 16:57Speaker 7: And then I've been watching Justified. And have you guys
- 17:00Speaker 7: seen that? It's based on an Elmore Leonard story. It's
- 17:03Speaker 7: set here in Kentucky and stuff. It's on FX. It's awesome.
- 17:08Speaker 7: And he's really, really good at it.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, other than that, I didn't watch anything else.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I was off Friday. Slacker. I went to see
- 17:17Speaker 4: DRI Thursday. You didn't get a knife in the parking lot.
- 17:20Speaker 4: I didn't get a knife in the parking lot. That's
- 17:22Speaker 4: always a plus. Yeah, I had to leave because of
- 17:24Speaker 4: some neo-Nazi problems.
- 17:26Speaker 6: Don't you hate when that happens?
- 17:27Speaker 4: Yeah, so I only got to see three songs. Did
- 17:30Speaker 4: somebody get knifed in the parking lot? No, but there
- 17:33Speaker 4: was a knife fight that was probably going to break out.
- 17:35Speaker 6: Nice.
- 17:36Speaker 4: I really didn't want to get caught in the middle
- 17:38Speaker 4: of it.
- 17:38Speaker 8: Freaking West Side Story, son.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Yeah, some problems. But I took Friday off, and I
- 17:43Speaker 4: had my kid this weekend, which is why I didn't
- 17:45Speaker 4: go with you guys up to Indianapolis. So I had
- 17:49Speaker 4: a mini Steve McQueen fest. I went back and watched
- 17:53Speaker 4: The Great Escape. Um, I've seen parts of it, but
- 17:56Speaker 4: I've never seen the whole thing as a whole. And, uh,
- 17:59Speaker 4: I love war movies. And if you want a really
- 18:01Speaker 4: good war movie, this has got to be one of
- 18:02Speaker 4: the best war movies. And it's got Steve McQueen riding
- 18:06Speaker 4: a triumph and he's jumping over fences and stuff. And
- 18:08Speaker 4: it's got Charles Bronson in it. It's got James Coburn.
- 18:11Speaker 4: It's got, uh, James Garner, you know, I mean, it's
- 18:15Speaker 4: got a whole, just a full cast and I used
- 18:18Speaker 4: to always think it was just all about Steve McQueen,
- 18:20Speaker 4: but when you go back and watch it, it is,
- 18:23Speaker 4: it's like everybody plays their part. It's such a great movie.
- 18:26Speaker 4: The ending's kind of a downer, but you know, it's
- 18:29Speaker 4: great that it was based on a true story.
- 18:31Speaker 2: You know, how many happy war movies are there?
- 18:33Speaker 4: There's not a whole lot, but you're just really pulling
- 18:35Speaker 4: for these guys throughout the whole movie. But, uh, you know,
- 18:38Speaker 4: I watched that and then I watched on any Sunday, um,
- 18:42Speaker 4: which kind of follows, I guess it's kind of a
- 18:45Speaker 4: quintessential motorcycle movie. I've got to write it down because
- 18:50Speaker 4: I forget shit, so I've got to write it down
- 18:51Speaker 4: on notes. But yeah, it was filmed in 1971, and
- 18:54Speaker 4: it covers pretty much anything for people who like motorcycles.
- 18:57Speaker 4: It's got flat track, dirt track, motocross, all types of stuff.
- 19:02Speaker 4: They go through the Mexican 1,000-mile trial, but it basically
- 19:06Speaker 4: follows Mert Lawal, who was number one back then. And
- 19:12Speaker 4: they kind of, they have to race so many races.
- 19:14Speaker 4: I think he raced 27 races against some of the
- 19:17Speaker 4: guys like Gene Romero and Dick Mann and ended up
- 19:20Speaker 4: actually losing that year, lost the number one spot to
- 19:24Speaker 4: Gene Romero. But what can I say? I like motorcycle movies,
- 19:27Speaker 4: but it's got a little bit of, it's got a
- 19:28Speaker 4: little bit of Steve McQueen in it. He's doing some
- 19:30Speaker 4: motorcycle stuff and it's, it's pretty cool. It's, it's a
- 19:33Speaker 4: good seventies film. Even, even today, the music's kind of dated,
- 19:37Speaker 4: but other than that, it's got some great racing scenes. And,
- 19:41Speaker 4: I mean, that's back when guys were like, I don't know.
- 19:45Speaker 4: The way I feel nowadays, most people aren't as tough
- 19:47Speaker 4: as they were back then. And looking at these guys
- 19:50Speaker 4: doing some of this shit, you're just like, damn, man,
- 19:53Speaker 4: I can't believe that.
- 19:53Speaker 8: You were badass.
- 19:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 4: Very much so. And other than that, I exposed my
- 19:59Speaker 4: kid to, oh, jeez, now I can't remember the name.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Indiana Jones.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Yeah, Indiana Jones and the fucking.
- 20:05Speaker 8: Temple of Doom.
- 20:06Speaker 4: Temple of Doom, yeah. She got to watch Temple of Doom.
- 20:08Speaker 8: Kalimaz.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Yeah, Kalimaz.
- 20:10Speaker 8: How'd she take the heart rip scene?
- 20:14Speaker 4: Like nothing.
- 20:14Speaker 6: I was going to say, she's probably fine. Yeah.
- 20:16Speaker 7: She was like, she's like, wow.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Yeah. She's like, wow. Why did he rip his heart out?
- 20:20Speaker 4: And I was like, uh, I don't know.
- 20:22Speaker 7: Cause he did.
- 20:23Speaker 6: Cause he's a bad guy.
- 20:24Speaker 7: Monkey brains.
- 20:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:26Speaker 4: That's what she didn't get. That's the, that's the thing.
- 20:28Speaker 4: I remember when I saw this in the theater.
- 20:30Speaker 8: Oh man.
- 20:30Speaker 4: And I remember as a kid being completely grossed out
- 20:33Speaker 4: by the brain. I was like, Ooh. And she was
- 20:35Speaker 4: just like sitting there watching. She was like, they're eating
- 20:38Speaker 4: monkey brains. And I was like, yeah. And she goes,
- 20:40Speaker 4: That's yucky.
- 20:41Speaker 8: She's chowing on her pepperoni pizza.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I was like, ugh.
- 20:44Speaker 7: It looks like slushy to me.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Oh, that so just bothered me as a child.
- 20:50Speaker 6: It was gross.
- 20:51Speaker 4: It warped my brain.
- 20:53Speaker 8: Well, that part in the snake, when the eels come out.
- 20:56Speaker 4: Remember the beetles? She's like, they're eating.
- 20:58Speaker 7: Bugs, dude.
- 20:59Speaker 4: And I was like, yeah.
- 21:01Speaker 6: She's taking this well.
- 21:02Speaker 4: I don't want to.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Make her appreciate, but we make her for dinner then.
- 21:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, really.
- 21:06Speaker 8: Some desensitized children.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Well, she grew up on Buffy, so she's used to
- 21:12Speaker 4: most of that stuff.
- 21:13Speaker 9: I mean, when she was like, what, five? I don't
- 21:16Speaker 9: remember how old she was, but she was pretty young.
- 21:18Speaker 9: This was a few years ago. We were going to
- 21:20Speaker 9: the flea market, and she could sing the entire Mystery
- 21:22Speaker 9: Science Theater theme song. Nice.
- 21:24Speaker 4: Yeah, that was the other thing we watched. We watched, again, Eegah.
- 21:28Speaker 5: Nice.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Have you watched that now?
- 21:30Speaker 4: Pretty much every weekend. She's obsessed with that movie. She
- 21:33Speaker 4: loves Eegah, and she loves pod people, so she watches
- 21:36Speaker 4: them on a continuous loop.
- 21:37Speaker 8: Freaking sweet.
- 21:38Speaker 6: Nice.
- 21:39Speaker 4: And, yeah, she starts quoting the entire movie. While we're
- 21:43Speaker 4: in the car.
- 21:44Speaker 7: Is she quoting the movie or the Mystery Science Theater crew?
- 21:46Speaker 4: She'll quote the movie and the crew.
- 21:48Speaker 6: Wow.
- 21:49Speaker 4: And she tries to get.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Which is not as fun as it sounds, trust me.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:53Speaker 6: Just not for you.
- 21:55Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 21:57Speaker 4: Sometimes I join in on it just to get her going,
- 21:59Speaker 4: but then other times I'm just kind of like, okay,
- 22:01Speaker 4: all right, that's enough. But other than that, I think
- 22:05Speaker 4: that's about all we did.
- 22:06Speaker 7: Other than.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Being a complete geek and putting Raiders of the Lost
- 22:10Speaker 4: Ark and Hellboy on my phone so that I could
- 22:12Speaker 4: watch them when I was bored.
- 22:13Speaker 6: Now you're a mobile geek.
- 22:14Speaker 4: Now I'm a mobile geek, amongst other movies. That's it
- 22:17Speaker 4: for me. What about you, Rock?
- 22:20Speaker 7: I was kind of a shut-in this week, so I
- 22:22Speaker 7: actually watched quite a bit of stuff. I had my
- 22:24Speaker 7: niece last weekend, so... I exposed her to zombie land.
- 22:28Speaker 7: She's 12 and she loved it.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:31Speaker 7: Um, her only complaint was it wasn't long.
- 22:33Speaker 6: Enough, which we were all kind of like, we all
- 22:36Speaker 6: said that we.
- 22:36Speaker 7: Get to the end and I'm like, well, this is
- 22:38Speaker 7: the big ending. And she's like, this is the end.
- 22:41Speaker 7: So that went over really, really well.
- 22:44Speaker 5: Awesome.
- 22:45Speaker 7: And we played some video games and, but during the week, uh,
- 22:49Speaker 7: I wasn't feeling that good. And I kind of was
- 22:50Speaker 7: a shut in. I watched a bunch of stuff. So
- 22:52Speaker 7: I brought some stuff with me to remind me what
- 22:54Speaker 7: I watched. Um, First, I dipped for the first time
- 22:58Speaker 7: into the world of Dark Shadows, the 1960s, the early 70s,
- 23:03Speaker 7: so goth-y.
- 23:04Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 23:04Speaker 4: My mom and I used to watch that all the time.
- 23:06Speaker 7: Well, when I was a kid, I had a famous
- 23:08Speaker 7: Monsters magazine. It had a picture of Barnabas Collins on it,
- 23:11Speaker 7: and he was looking through the window and snarling, and
- 23:13Speaker 7: it looked really scary. So I tried to watch it
- 23:15Speaker 7: a couple of times, and nothing happened while I watched it.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:18Speaker 7: So I lost interest, and then I remember being in college,
- 23:22Speaker 7: and there were some guys that were fans. And they
- 23:24Speaker 7: were watching the Ben Cross 1990-something reboot of it, and
- 23:29Speaker 7: that didn't last very long. So finally, MPI just released
- 23:33Speaker 7: these two volumes of Dark Shadows that are like three-hour
- 23:37Speaker 7: movie compilations of some of the storylines. One's called The
- 23:40Speaker 7: Vampire Curse, and it's like the origin of Barnabas Collins.
- 23:44Speaker 7: And the other one's called The Haunting of Collinwood, which
- 23:46Speaker 7: is the whole storyline involving Quentin's ghost trying to possess
- 23:50Speaker 7: the kids in the house and that kind of thing.
- 23:52Speaker 7: And the good thing about these arcs You don't have
- 23:55Speaker 7: to watch the entire show, which sometimes you can watch
- 23:57Speaker 7: hours and almost nothing will happen.
- 23:59Speaker 6: It is a soap opera.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Like most soap operas.
- 24:02Speaker 7: This kind of compiles the main juice of the stories
- 24:05Speaker 7: into a nice three-hour kind of content. And you don't
- 24:08Speaker 7: feel like you're missing anything. It feels like it's all
- 24:10Speaker 7: in one story. So this was kind of my first
- 24:13Speaker 7: dive into Dark Shadows, and I actually did enjoy it.
- 24:17Speaker 7: I'm not sure I need to go and get every episode.
- 24:19Speaker 7: I think I'm happy with these. But if you're interested
- 24:22Speaker 7: in Dark Shadows and you're not like a super fan,
- 24:25Speaker 7: you might check out these abbreviated versions because they're actually
- 24:28Speaker 7: pretty decent.
- 24:29Speaker 6: Cool. I was always shocked that that was on TV
- 24:32Speaker 6: at that time and ran for years. That seems so weird.
- 24:39Speaker 6: There's a small audience for that kind of stuff, but
- 24:42Speaker 6: I can't believe a big enough one that warranted being
- 24:45Speaker 6: on TV every day.
- 24:46Speaker 9: Well, America went through that monster craze in the 60s
- 24:50Speaker 9: with the Munsters and the Addams Family.
- 24:52Speaker 6: But it just seems so weird, because wasn't it during
- 24:54Speaker 6: the daytime?
- 24:55Speaker 4: Yeah, it was. It was on during a soap opera.
- 24:57Speaker 6: It was produced by Dan Curtis. It's like Housewives and stuff.
- 25:01Speaker 6: It's so weird that that found its niche at that
- 25:04Speaker 6: point in time.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Well, it had that whole kind of mysterious.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Thing to it.
- 25:09Speaker 7: But if you watch it long enough, it has everything.
- 25:11Speaker 7: It's got vampires, it's got werewolves, there's zombies, there's a
- 25:14Speaker 7: Frankenstein monster type of character named Adam at some point.
- 25:18Speaker 7: There's like witches, there's, you know, they have seances and
- 25:23Speaker 7: ghosts and all kinds of stuff. It's just that it's
- 25:25Speaker 7: stretched over a very long period of time because it
- 25:27Speaker 7: was on every day. One of the interesting things about
- 25:31Speaker 7: watching it is They shot most of it. It wasn't live,
- 25:35Speaker 7: but it was close enough that they only did, like,
- 25:37Speaker 7: one take. So when they flub, it's on there.
- 25:40Speaker 11: God.
- 25:40Speaker 7: If somebody bumps into the camera and the camera jogs around,
- 25:43Speaker 7: that's on there.
- 25:44Speaker 6: Wow.
- 25:45Speaker 7: I mean, they don't go back and reshoot it or anything.
- 25:47Speaker 8: No.
- 25:47Speaker 7: So it's... I did enjoy it. I don't know if
- 25:51Speaker 7: I'm ever going to become a super fan of it. Like,
- 25:53Speaker 7: some people definitely are.
- 25:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:55Speaker 7: But I did enjoy these condensed versions, though.
- 25:58Speaker 5: Cool.
- 25:58Speaker 7: What else did I check out this week? Oh, I
- 26:00Speaker 7: picked up the.
- 26:02Speaker 7: There's a series of trailer DVDs called 42nd Street Forever.
- 26:07Speaker 7: And Volume 5 is the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema version, which
- 26:11Speaker 7: I've been to the Alamo a bunch of times down
- 26:13Speaker 7: in Austin, Texas. And it basically is a lot of
- 26:17Speaker 7: their craziest trailers edited together with commentary by the guys
- 26:23Speaker 7: that are actually the programmers. There's an interview with Tim
- 26:25Speaker 7: League and a 30-minute documentary about the Alamo and that
- 26:28Speaker 7: kind of stuff. So I recommend... if you're really into
- 26:31Speaker 7: this type of trash cinema, to look up this, too,
- 26:34Speaker 7: because it's pretty cool.
- 26:35Speaker 6: Those whole series have been pretty popular, so yeah.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:38Speaker 6: It's funny that they just now got to the Alamo, because, yeah,
- 26:41Speaker 6: they're on five.
- 26:42Speaker 7: Yeah, this one is a very specific one. It's all
- 26:44Speaker 7: about what goes on at the Alamo, and it's all
- 26:47Speaker 7: from their trailer stash, so that's pretty cool. Last night,
- 26:52Speaker 7: or yesterday, I picked up.
- 26:55Speaker 7: This thing at Target, you know how they have all
- 26:57Speaker 7: those four favorite films put together? You can get four
- 27:01Speaker 7: Hammer and Dracula movies or all the Lethal Weapon movies
- 27:03Speaker 7: or the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Well, they had
- 27:05Speaker 7: this urban action collection, which I was kind of surprised
- 27:08Speaker 7: to find at Target. I love Jim Kelly. So I
- 27:13Speaker 7: watched Black Belt Jones last night.
- 27:15Speaker 5: Awesome.
- 27:15Speaker 4: I haven't seen that movie in years.
- 27:17Speaker 7: I love that movie.
- 27:17Speaker 8: He's got an immaculate fro.
- 27:20Speaker 7: He's pretty charismatic. I won't say he's the greatest actor
- 27:23Speaker 7: of all time, but, man, he's got this style about
- 27:26Speaker 7: him and his style about his kung fu, and it's
- 27:29Speaker 7: great stuff. I mean, the fight scene at the end
- 27:31Speaker 7: of this movie that takes place in this industrial car
- 27:34Speaker 7: wash where there's all these suds everywhere, and the bad
- 27:36Speaker 7: guys just keep popping up out of the suds.
- 27:38Speaker 4: It's like a video game.
- 27:41Speaker 7: It's pretty amazing. And it's got four great movies on here,
- 27:44Speaker 7: and I haven't got to the other ones yet. There's
- 27:46Speaker 7: another Jim Kelly movie on there called Hot Potato, which
- 27:48Speaker 7: I've never seen and I'm looking forward to watching. It's
- 27:51Speaker 7: got the Jim Brown, Fred Williamson, Jim Kelly 3 The
- 27:54Speaker 7: Hard Way, which I have seen before, but not remastered
- 27:57Speaker 7: or anything like that on this DVD, so I look
- 27:59Speaker 7: forward to that. That's a pretty good one. And Black Samson.
- 28:03Speaker 7: Which I haven't seen before. And the guy runs around here.
- 28:05Speaker 4: I kind of wanted to see that one.
- 28:07Speaker 7: He has a big cane. He has a lion sidekick
- 28:10Speaker 7: in the city.
- 28:11Speaker 6: Nice.
- 28:12Speaker 7: It looks pretty awesome, but I haven't seen it. I'll
- 28:14Speaker 7: have to report back after I've watched it. But kind
- 28:17Speaker 7: of an unusual set of movies to find for $ 8
- 28:20Speaker 7: at Target.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:22Speaker 7: Target's awesome. I picked up another thing last night, and
- 28:26Speaker 7: I was actually wanting us to just watch this today
- 28:28Speaker 7: because I love it. And I think we're going to
- 28:30Speaker 7: have to work it in.
- 28:31Speaker 6: I think it's coming.
- 28:32Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 28:32Speaker 7: It's remastered a version of The Wraith from 1986, which
- 28:38Speaker 7: at the time had all these people that really became
- 28:40Speaker 7: famous in it that weren't yet.
- 28:42Speaker 2: We've not discussed it that much if we're planning on
- 28:44Speaker 2: doing it for the show a week after.
- 28:45Speaker 6: Yeah, we can do a minor.
- 28:47Speaker 7: I'm just going to say what it's like. It's got
- 28:49Speaker 7: Charlie Sheen in it, Martin Sheen's kid. It's got Nick Cassavetes,
- 28:52Speaker 7: John Cassavetes' kid. It's got Randy Quaid in it. It's
- 28:55Speaker 7: got Clint Howard, you know, Brant Howard's kid in it.
- 29:01Speaker 7: And a really, really hot young Sherilyn Finn before even
- 29:04Speaker 7: Twin Peaks came out. It's a car movie, it's a
- 29:07Speaker 7: sci-fi movie, and it's really, it's almost like a Road
- 29:11Speaker 7: Warrior Revenge type of sci-fi movie. It's very, very strange.
- 29:15Speaker 7: I'm sure not a whole lot of people have actually
- 29:17Speaker 7: seen it.
- 29:17Speaker 6: It's one of those, yeah, if you've been around long enough,
- 29:19Speaker 6: it was on cable all the time back then.
- 29:22Speaker 4: I remember seeing it.
- 29:23Speaker 6: It sort of disappeared after that.
- 29:25Speaker 7: To me, this movie is sort of always intertwined with, like,
- 29:28Speaker 7: Time Rider, The Adventures of Lyle Swan, you know, that motorcycle.
- 29:32Speaker 6: I kind of want to watch that one. I like
- 29:34Speaker 6: that one.
- 29:35Speaker 7: Except the DVD of that has an edited ending, which
- 29:37Speaker 7: I hated, so I can't really watch it. But I
- 29:41Speaker 7: can't believe somebody actually remastered this. It even says on
- 29:43Speaker 7: the cover, featuring the music of Billy Idol, Robert Palmer,
- 29:46Speaker 7: Ozzy Osbourne, and Motley Crue. And that's the kind of
- 29:49Speaker 7: stuff that usually holds these movies back from being re-released.
- 29:52Speaker 7: Apparently they worked it out because their names are all
- 29:55Speaker 7: on the cover.
- 29:56Speaker 6: So go get yourself a copy and watch it because
- 29:57Speaker 6: we'll be watching it soon.
- 29:59Speaker 7: And I think that's really all. I watched endless amounts
- 30:04Speaker 7: of TV, but I won't even go into it.
- 30:06Speaker 4: You're on a hills marathon again, huh? Not a hills marathon.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Marlena, what about you?
- 30:16Speaker 9: What did you watch?
- 30:17Speaker 2: I know you were excited and bubbly and wanted to
- 30:19Speaker 2: talk about it earlier.
- 30:20Speaker 9: Last night I watched this movie called The Children. It
- 30:22Speaker 9: was listed under Netflix as a zombie movie, which I
- 30:25Speaker 9: wouldn't necessarily.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, I.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Wanted to watch that, but I didn't get around to it.
- 30:28Speaker 7: This is the bus movie?
- 30:29Speaker 5: Yes.
- 30:29Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, I've got a copy of that.
- 30:30Speaker 9: I wouldn't necessarily say that it was. The premise of
- 30:33Speaker 9: the movie, these children are coming home from school, and
- 30:36Speaker 9: they pass through this, like, toxic yellow cloud of smoke.
- 30:40Speaker 8: Awesome.
- 30:42Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 30:42Speaker 8: So, it's... This is great.
- 30:45Speaker 4: This movie sounds awesome already.
- 30:47Speaker 9: Yeah, it's... The sheriff notices the bus, like, kind of
- 30:51Speaker 9: parked sideways on the road. So he gets out and
- 30:53Speaker 9: he looks in the bus and he's like, I can't
- 30:55Speaker 9: find the children. He doesn't bother to look in the
- 30:56Speaker 9: woods or across the street. He just stands in a
- 30:59Speaker 9: circle and looks around, and he's like, I don't know
- 31:01Speaker 9: where the children are, which was ridiculous. But basically, the
- 31:05Speaker 9: children run around with their arms stretched out trying to
- 31:08Speaker 9: hug people.
- 31:08Speaker 7: Yeah, they're zombies, basically.
- 31:09Speaker 9: Yeah, but they don't ever eat anybody.
- 31:11Speaker 7: They burn you a lot.
- 31:12Speaker 9: Yeah, all they do is touch you, and then you
- 31:14Speaker 9: are burned, and you look like.
- 31:16Speaker 7: They try to hug people.
- 31:17Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Which is why I try to avoid hugging kids at
- 31:20Speaker 2: all costs.
- 31:20Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 31:21Speaker 7: I know better.
- 31:21Speaker 9: I can burn you.
- 31:22Speaker 5: With their that's evilness last time a kid hugged me
- 31:25Speaker 5: i screamed and she got scared and.
- 31:26Speaker 6: Cried weird that shouldn't surprise anyone no this movie.
- 31:30Speaker 7: Is great i've seen it it's it's really good it's
- 31:32Speaker 7: really creepy especially if you're creeped out by a kid.
- 31:36Speaker 9: That ought to do it i'm not a big fan
- 31:37Speaker 9: of sorry i thought it was kind of ridiculous on
- 31:40Speaker 9: some levels it wasn't a terrible movie but it was
- 31:42Speaker 9: definitely a movie best enjoyed drunk.
- 31:46Speaker 8: With friends possibly although it.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Wasn't um.
- 31:50Speaker 9: Sitting and talking through the whole movie and making fun
- 31:53Speaker 9: of it like Mystery Science Theater style.
- 31:55Speaker 7: I love the music.
- 31:56Speaker 9: Yeah, the music is pretty dramatic. Oh, the best part
- 31:59Speaker 9: of the movie, the children come at you and you
- 32:01Speaker 9: know that they're evil because they have black fingernails. Uh-oh.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:04Speaker 8: Oh, shit.
- 32:05Speaker 9: At the end of the movie, one of the main characters,
- 32:08Speaker 9: his wife was pregnant. She gives birth and she's like
- 32:11Speaker 9: breastfeeding the child and he looks down and he has
- 32:13Speaker 9: a horrible look on his face because he notices the
- 32:16Speaker 9: baby has black fingernails has he been a hot topic.
- 32:18Speaker 6: Is that what happened yeah keep your babies out of
- 32:21Speaker 6: hot topic It was pretty.
- 32:23Speaker 7: I like how in Night of the Living Dead you
- 32:26Speaker 7: have to shoot the zombies in the brain, and they've
- 32:27Speaker 7: come up with their own thing. It's like the only
- 32:29Speaker 7: way to stop the kids is to cut their hands off.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:32Speaker 5: Weird.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Okay.
- 32:33Speaker 8: How do you pitch a movie like this? I mean, like, crazy. No, no, no, wait.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Get this.
- 32:39Speaker 6: Crazy hugging children that burn people alive.
- 32:42Speaker 2: It would have scared the hell out of me.
- 32:43Speaker 6: It would, but that's an odd pitch.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 7: It's great. Troma released that on DVD. You can actually
- 32:49Speaker 7: get it, and it's awesome.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Oh, it's associated with trauma.
- 32:52Speaker 6: They didn't make it, right?
- 32:53Speaker 7: No, it's not a trauma movie.
- 32:54Speaker 6: Okay, it's all right then.
- 32:55Speaker 7: It's one of those movies where they just got the
- 32:57Speaker 7: rights to release it.
- 32:58Speaker 6: I've got a few of those. This was made before
- 33:00Speaker 6: trauma ever existed.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:02Speaker 2: We did see Lloyd Kaufman wandering around.
- 33:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I did see Lloyd Kaufman yesterday.
- 33:05Speaker 9: It was released in 1980. It looked pretty fancy. I
- 33:08Speaker 9: don't care what you guys say about trauma movies. I
- 33:10Speaker 9: enjoyed Poultry Geist.
- 33:12Speaker 6: That's all you.
- 33:13Speaker 7: I heard that was great. I haven't ever watched it.
- 33:15Speaker 6: I've steered clear of it.
- 33:16Speaker 9: It was a musical, and it was a horror movie,
- 33:19Speaker 9: and it was funny.
- 33:20Speaker 7: I was over it by the time it finally came out.
- 33:23Speaker 7: I mean, I heard about it like three or four
- 33:24Speaker 7: years before it actually came out.
- 33:26Speaker 6: They were pushing it forever.
- 33:28Speaker 7: They took forever to put that out. And by the
- 33:31Speaker 7: time it finally came out, I just didn't care anymore.
- 33:33Speaker 8: I was pretty much done after Nukem High. That was
- 33:36Speaker 8: the pinnacle.
- 33:37Speaker 6: I don't think I got that far. I think right in,
- 33:39Speaker 6: I was just like, oh.
- 33:42Speaker 5: I got about 15 minutes into Tromeo and Juliet, and
- 33:45Speaker 5: that pretty much sealed my fate right there.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Kabuki knows Tromeo, right?
- 33:49Speaker 9: Dead Girl on my, well, Andrew's Netflix queue. On my
- 33:53Speaker 9: borrowed Netflix queue.
- 33:55Speaker 8: Oh, man.
- 33:56Speaker 6: So I guess that's most of our Geek Week.
- 33:57Speaker 4: What are you doing over there? Are you cutting lines
- 33:59Speaker 4: of cocaine or what?
- 34:01Speaker 7: I'm just flattening out the wrappers from the chocolate. I
- 34:04Speaker 7: don't know, some OCD thing.
- 34:06Speaker 6: It actually is. You should have seen him spazzing out yesterday.
- 34:09Speaker 6: She's way better at it than me.
- 34:10Speaker 2: What was I spazzing out over yesterday?
- 34:12Speaker 6: I don't know. You were both being kind of weird.
- 34:14Speaker 9: I don't remember being weird.
- 34:16Speaker 2: I'm no weirder than normal.
- 34:17Speaker 6: No.
- 34:19Speaker 2: I was totally normal yesterday.
- 34:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I know. But for people who weren't used to,
- 34:24Speaker 6: I think Randy's still in shock.
- 34:25Speaker 2: What did we do that was exceptionally weird?
- 34:28Speaker 6: I'm used to it all. I don't know.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Well, what did Randy think that we did that was weird?
- 34:31Speaker 6: I don't know. He'll have to ask him. He had
- 34:33Speaker 6: to sit next to you at dinner.
- 34:35Speaker 2: He chose to sit by me during lunch.
- 34:37Speaker 9: Lunch.
- 34:39Speaker 7: Oh, wow.
- 34:39Speaker 6: So, yeah, that was some of our fun activities. I
- 34:42Speaker 6: did get to sit across from one of the, you know...
- 34:46Speaker 6: Girls of your dreams? Yeah, one of the first and
- 34:49Speaker 6: most influential girls of my dreams.
- 34:51Speaker 7: Which was?
- 34:52Speaker 6: Catherine Mary Stewart. I had such a thing for her.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Her kid is so cute. He looks just like her.
- 34:58Speaker 6: She still looks amazing. I was thrilled to sit there
- 35:01Speaker 6: and talk to her. We'll work in stuff with her
- 35:04Speaker 6: in the future, but, yeah, that was awesome.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Did you tell her you love her?
- 35:09Speaker 6: I think she alerted security.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Was the vacuum guy secretly her bodyguard?
- 35:13Speaker 6: Probably, yeah. There was some weirdo with a vacuum cleaner
- 35:17Speaker 6: running it during the interview. Thanks, buddy. What an ass jerk.
- 35:21Speaker 9: And there were all those weird old fat guys taking
- 35:24Speaker 9: pictures of you guys constantly.
- 35:26Speaker 6: I wasn't really sure what they were doing over there.
- 35:28Speaker 6: I sort of ignored them.
- 35:30Speaker 2: You were in your own little haze.
- 35:31Speaker 6: I kind of was, actually.
- 35:33Speaker 7: Old Weird Fat Guys, that's like 80% of the people there.
- 35:37Speaker 6: These were like the veterans, weren't they?
- 35:39Speaker 4: Yeah, they were.
- 35:39Speaker 6: They were like the veterans. Some sort of veteran group
- 35:42Speaker 6: was also there celebrating something.
- 35:44Speaker 7: There's always that weirdness at hotels.
- 35:46Speaker 6: Every time.
- 35:47Speaker 7: Last at Fright Night Fest, it was that Civil War.
- 35:50Speaker 6: Civil War guys.
- 35:51Speaker 4: Yeah, it was Daughters of the Civil War.
- 35:55Speaker 2: It had a veterans, like the veterans, and then it
- 35:57Speaker 2: had like.
- 35:58Speaker 4: The Christian Women's Association.
- 35:59Speaker 9: A sorority. Yeah.
- 36:00Speaker 5: The Tri-Kappa Gammas were there, too.
- 36:02Speaker 7: Yeah, that's right.
- 36:03Speaker 6: And I'm like, really? Yeah, like, the first one we
- 36:05Speaker 6: went to that had an Avon convention there, too. I
- 36:07Speaker 6: was just like, this is.
- 36:08Speaker 2: It was Mary Kay.
- 36:09Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 36:09Speaker 6: Interchangeable to me.
- 36:10Speaker 4: I don't pay enough attention to it. That one that
- 36:12Speaker 4: was up there that had, like, the Sisters of Christ
- 36:15Speaker 4: or something like that.
- 36:16Speaker 8: Oh, wow.
- 36:17Speaker 4: It was all these... All these women in button-up shirts
- 36:20Speaker 4: up to their throat and skirts all the way down
- 36:23Speaker 4: to their heels.
- 36:24Speaker 7: Next to the long man's Satan table.
- 36:26Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 36:28Speaker 4: They're looking at all these weird kids coming in.
- 36:31Speaker 5: It's better when you think they're in costume first. You're like,
- 36:34Speaker 5: no way, that's just the way they were.
- 36:37Speaker 2: How many veterans are like, oh, what is he from?
- 36:39Speaker 6: Oh, wait, he's just in.
- 36:41Speaker 2: A veteran.
- 36:43Speaker 6: Never mind. Yeah, it's always a weird mixture when they
- 36:47Speaker 6: put them in these conventions. And again, it makes no sense.
- 36:50Speaker 6: I'm like, if you've got that extra room for that person,
- 36:52Speaker 6: why don't you just kick them out to another weekend
- 36:54Speaker 6: and open up a third room?
- 36:56Speaker 7: I guess they're so full of events every weekend, they
- 36:59Speaker 7: have to double book them.
- 37:00Speaker 6: I don't know. They need to plan ahead on these things.
- 37:03Speaker 9: I feel like it would be fun to just party
- 37:05Speaker 9: crash weird conventions like that. Like the Veterans Conventions and
- 37:09Speaker 9: the Southern Baptist Conventions.
- 37:13Speaker 6: That would be really fun.
- 37:14Speaker 4: No, there is no fun in the Southern Baptist. That's true.
- 37:16Speaker 4: Trust me.
- 37:17Speaker 6: I always said with the Wright Night, when you kind
- 37:19Speaker 6: of could have wandered one way or the other, if
- 37:20Speaker 6: you would have gone as a Civil War zombie, you
- 37:23Speaker 6: could have gone on both sides. I can't believe you.
- 37:25Speaker 7: See Gabe Lincoln with a gunshot wound on his head.
- 37:28Speaker 7: That's what I was hoping for.
- 37:29Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a fine line there.
- 37:32Speaker 7: Just like sit in the middle.
- 37:33Speaker 6: Used to play in your house on what the other conventions.
- 37:35Speaker 9: Are so that way oh you know it would have
- 37:37Speaker 9: been awesome if there had been like a pro-life convention
- 37:39Speaker 9: because there was that woman that had the.
- 37:41Speaker 6: Baby dead baby dangling from her.
- 37:44Speaker 8: That's fucking awesome yeah was.
- 37:47Speaker 6: It dragging behind the cord it was she still had
- 37:50Speaker 6: the umbilical cord hanging from when she sat down to.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Eat lunch she left the baby out in the aisle
- 37:54Speaker 2: in the aisle so you.
- 37:54Speaker 6: Could trip over it that's right That's a lawsuit waiting
- 37:57Speaker 6: to happen.
- 37:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:58Speaker 9: I tripped over your.
- 37:59Speaker 2: That was awesome.
- 38:00Speaker 6: Your dead baby. Yeah. Kept your dead baby out of
- 38:02Speaker 6: the way.
- 38:02Speaker 8: You dropped your afterbirth.
- 38:05Speaker 6: But, I don't know. Anything else from our little extravaganza?
- 38:08Speaker 2: That's been our extended geek week.
- 38:10Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah. It was pretty packed with stuff. So, that
- 38:14Speaker 6: and packing shit up and everything. So, this might be
- 38:16Speaker 6: the last recording in this horrible studio here.
- 38:20Speaker 9: In the house from Evil Dead.
- 38:23Speaker 6: Night of the Living Dead. Take your pick. Evil Dead.
- 38:25Speaker 6: Any horror movie from the turn of the century.
- 38:28Speaker 9: The exposed lath in the 1930s floral wall.
- 38:30Speaker 6: Yeah, it's horrible.
- 38:31Speaker 7: That Evil Dead cabin was pretty nice digs.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Compared to that.
- 38:35Speaker 6: Yes, yes it was.
- 38:36Speaker 4: It was pretty warmer too.
- 38:38Speaker 6: I'm looking forward to getting the.
- 38:40Speaker 4: Hell out of here.
- 38:40Speaker 7: They had a fireplace.
- 38:42Speaker 9: Yeah, that's true.
- 38:43Speaker 6: On that note, we'll wrap up today and I'll start
- 38:45Speaker 6: packing shit up. We will take a break here and
- 38:48Speaker 6: be back with What's the Buzz. I got a.
- 38:51Speaker 4: Feeling that Easter's here.
- 38:55Speaker 9: Mmm.
- 38:56Speaker 5: Mmm.
- 38:56Speaker 10: I said I got a feeling that Easter's here.
- 39:03Speaker 3: To top off a perfect weekend, may we suggest you
- 39:06Speaker 3: see our special holiday show. It's an exceptionally entertaining program.
- 39:11Speaker 3: So try to relax and spend a few enjoyable hours
- 39:14Speaker 3: with the family at this theater.
- 39:18Speaker 10: Pods really get things rolling. Pods make my family fun.
- 39:23Speaker 10: Open the Easter egg, color cute, and the good times.
- 39:26Speaker 9: Have just begun.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Drop a colored tablet into vinegar and cold water.
- 39:30Speaker 10: Then dip a hard-boiled egg for a rainbow of beautiful
- 39:34Speaker 10: Easter colors. Paws really gets things rolling. We rub our
- 39:39Speaker 10: egg holders too. From cotton, sanders, and lollipops. Just to
- 39:43Speaker 10: name a few.
- 39:44Speaker 4: So pick up a Paws Easter egg color kit and
- 39:46Speaker 4: really get things rolling. This is Bill from Outside the Cinema.
- 39:49Speaker 6: If you're hearing this, then you probably like podcasts. Logical.
- 39:53Speaker 4: Flawlessly logical. Well, let me tell you.
- 39:55Speaker 8: If you like horror movies, exploitation films, and underground and
- 39:58Speaker 8: cult films, why not check out Outside the Cinema?
- 40:01Speaker 6: You gotta tell them!
- 40:03Speaker 8: Www.outsidethecinema.com You're a smart motherfucker.
- 40:06Speaker 4: Hey man, I try.
- 40:07Speaker 6: Attention, shoppers. I trust you've got credit cards to pay for.
- 40:16Speaker 7: All that stuff. Hi, this is Captain Mary Stewart, and
- 40:20Speaker 7: you're listening to Movie Meltdown. I've created a holiday because
- 40:32Speaker 7: nobody wants to see Jesus no more.
- 40:34Speaker 6: They want to save your unchopped liver.
- 40:36Speaker 4: So if you want a savior, this is what I'll
- 40:37Speaker 4: give you.
- 40:38Speaker 7: A day when bunnies lay eggs.
- 40:39Speaker 4: That I call Easter.
- 40:40Speaker 7: Twelve apostles and four gospels. No, I can pull off
- 40:43Speaker 7: the impossible by not becoming a fossil.
- 40:45Speaker 2: When I'm six feet deep, I pop out of the
- 40:47Speaker 2: ground and hook you up with some peeps.
- 40:48Speaker 7: Now this looks like a job for me, even though
- 40:51Speaker 7: they crucified me.
- 40:53Speaker 6: Don't you know that you can't kill me because there'd
- 40:55Speaker 6: be no Easter without All right, we're back with What's
- 40:58Speaker 6: the Buzz? Tell me what's happening, what's the buzz? Tell
- 41:03Speaker 6: me what's happening, what's the buzz?
- 41:05Speaker 2: Tell me what's happening, what's the buzz?
- 41:07Speaker 7: There was quite a bit of buzz in the last
- 41:10Speaker 7: few years.
- 41:11Speaker 6: Some things that were kind of big. Some stuff that
- 41:13Speaker 6: nobody's going to care about, like always.
- 41:15Speaker 7: We have a Captain America.
- 41:16Speaker 6: That's the big thing. The long casting war is over.
- 41:19Speaker 6: There is a Captain America now.
- 41:20Speaker 2: I'm still sad it's not Chris Pine.
- 41:21Speaker 4: Wait a minute, who's Captain America?
- 41:23Speaker 7: Chris Evans?
- 41:23Speaker 2: Chris Evans?
- 41:24Speaker 6: The Human Torch is Captain America.
- 41:27Speaker 7: The Human Torch is Captain America. Yeah, you know what?
- 41:29Speaker 7: I actually, of all the people they were reading, he's
- 41:33Speaker 7: probably the best because I hate that Channing Tatum.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 41:36Speaker 7: I was going to have to leave this country if
- 41:37Speaker 7: he was Captain America. So, I saw Chris Evans in
- 41:42Speaker 7: that movie Sunshine.
- 41:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:43Speaker 7: And he's really good in that.
- 41:45Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 41:45Speaker 7: So, I think he really is a decent actor, and
- 41:47Speaker 7: he fits the part.
- 41:48Speaker 6: That's the thing. Everything else, like we were talking about
- 41:50Speaker 6: when I watched Push back then, he was really good
- 41:53Speaker 6: in that.
- 41:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:54Speaker 6: Like, everything I've seen him in that probably shouldn't have
- 41:56Speaker 6: been that great a movie, he's really good in and
- 41:58Speaker 6: kind of elevates it. So, it's like, I don't know.
- 42:01Speaker 6: I think he can probably do a decent job with this.
- 42:03Speaker 7: Compared to everybody else that was reading it.
- 42:05Speaker 6: Yeah, they did throw a lot of weird stuff out
- 42:07Speaker 6: there along the way.
- 42:07Speaker 8: Disney's putting it out, right?
- 42:10Speaker 7: Well, Disney owns Marvel now. I'm not sure.
- 42:12Speaker 6: I don't know how directly connected they are. The one
- 42:15Speaker 6: thing that was kind of weird that I don't know
- 42:17Speaker 6: if I'd realize, because I didn't think I ever paid
- 42:19Speaker 6: that much attention to the Avengers or the whole ongoing series,
- 42:23Speaker 6: but they said he's starring in this movie as Captain America,
- 42:26Speaker 6: the first Avenger. And it's prominently featured in World War
- 42:30Speaker 6: II with the superhero team, the Invaders. One of the
- 42:32Speaker 6: most famous characters was the Human Torch. Which, although it
- 42:36Speaker 6: was an android and not Johnny Storm, in the comics,
- 42:39Speaker 6: Johnny took his name from that World War II hero.
- 42:41Speaker 4: So it's like.
- 42:42Speaker 6: I think you should play both parts.
- 42:43Speaker 9: Yeah, I.
- 42:44Speaker 6: it's weird so i guess but it doesn't matter because
- 42:46Speaker 6: fox still has the rights to fantastic four invaders are.
- 42:49Speaker 7: In the movie does that mean like uh prince namor
- 42:52Speaker 7: or submariners and he and the invaders so i don't.
- 42:55Speaker 6: Even know who all was in the invaders.
- 42:56Speaker 8: It probably won't be in captain america but i could
- 42:58Speaker 8: see that being in you.
- 43:00Speaker 6: Know crossover somewhere i.
- 43:02Speaker 8: Mean if they want to start getting into that they're
- 43:04Speaker 8: working in.
- 43:04Speaker 6: So many crossovers anyway yeah yeah But yeah, because Fox
- 43:08Speaker 6: still owns the rights to Fantastic Four, it's looking like
- 43:11Speaker 6: they're not going to have the Human Torch in it
- 43:12Speaker 6: at all, so they won't have that as an option
- 43:15Speaker 6: for him to play both parts, which I don't think
- 43:17Speaker 6: he would anyway. Oh, this was interesting, too. In addition
- 43:19Speaker 6: to the Captain America movie, Chris Evans' new contract includes
- 43:23Speaker 6: up to eight other Marvel movies as Captain America. including
- 43:27Speaker 6: the Avengers and any other Marvel movie they want to
- 43:30Speaker 6: put him in, basically.
- 43:31Speaker 7: Well, they're just covering their bases at this point. They
- 43:33Speaker 7: don't really expect there'll be eight movies with him or
- 43:36Speaker 7: anything like that.
- 43:37Speaker 6: But they're doing, yeah, like the Samuel L. Jackson thing,
- 43:39Speaker 6: where they're just going to cross him over whenever they
- 43:41Speaker 6: can just to make it all one big universe, really.
- 43:45Speaker 6: So I think he's going to turn up in all
- 43:47Speaker 6: of them.
- 43:47Speaker 7: I'm sure the contract is such that he gets a raise,
- 43:49Speaker 7: but he can't turn around and go, oh, this was
- 43:53Speaker 7: a huge hit, so now I want $ 40 million for it.
- 43:55Speaker 6: I'm not going to do the second one until, yeah.
- 43:58Speaker 6: So they've got him signed for life, which I'm sure
- 44:00Speaker 6: is a huge check that comes.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Along with that. I like that check.
- 44:04Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a reason he signed on to do this.
- 44:06Speaker 4: I'd like to have half that check.
- 44:08Speaker 7: He didn't take it right away. I mean, it was
- 44:10Speaker 7: announced that it was offered. I was even shocked that
- 44:12Speaker 7: news came out. Like, you usually don't announce, like, oh,
- 44:15Speaker 7: he's been offered, because once that happens, the guy's agent, yeah,
- 44:19Speaker 7: will crazy up the price.
- 44:20Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 44:22Speaker 7: But apparently he had to think about it, and I
- 44:24Speaker 7: don't blame him. Do you want to spend the rest
- 44:26Speaker 7: of your, basically, almost the rest of your career playing
- 44:29Speaker 7: Captain America?
- 44:30Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 44:30Speaker 6: Also, they had scheduling stuff with him. He was already
- 44:32Speaker 6: signed on to do some movie with Anna Faris that
- 44:35Speaker 6: now they're somehow reworking around this, I guess, because it
- 44:37Speaker 6: was such a huge check. It's like, we'll figure something
- 44:40Speaker 6: out on that one. I don't know. We'll have to
- 44:43Speaker 6: see how he looks in the suit fighting Nazis or
- 44:46Speaker 6: whatever else is going to be going.
- 44:47Speaker 8: On in this thing.
- 44:49Speaker 7: With Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull.
- 44:51Speaker 6: Which, again, isn't bad casting.
- 44:53Speaker 7: No, that'll work. Yeah.
- 44:54Speaker 6: Anything you can get Hugo Weaving in at this point,
- 44:57Speaker 6: you go for it. So, just after days after confirming
- 45:00Speaker 6: that Disney is spinning off its Sleeping Beauty into its
- 45:03Speaker 6: own little evil fairy godmother movie, Maleficent?
- 45:06Speaker 11: Maleficent.
- 45:07Speaker 8: Maleficent.
- 45:07Speaker 7: Maleficent.
- 45:09Speaker 6: They have a contender already. It's not official, but according
- 45:13Speaker 6: to the LA Times, A-lister Angelina Jolie is intrigued by
- 45:17Speaker 6: the idea of playing the villainous and the title character.
- 45:20Speaker 2: I think she would be awesome.
- 45:21Speaker 9: I could see that.
- 45:21Speaker 6: Yeah, she kind of fits that role.
- 45:24Speaker 7: Which I didn't mention during Geek Week, but I actually
- 45:27Speaker 7: saw Alice in Wonderland this week, so I want to
- 45:29Speaker 7: talk about that a little bit. Because, well, I thought
- 45:33Speaker 7: I was going to see The Runaways because I saw
- 45:34Speaker 7: that it opened and I just assumed... That it opened wide.
- 45:38Speaker 7: I mean, Kristen Stewart's in it and everything.
- 45:39Speaker 6: You would think.
- 45:40Speaker 7: So we made plans to go see it Monday, only
- 45:42Speaker 7: to find out it really only opened in like 200
- 45:44Speaker 7: theaters and Louisville wasn't one of them. Nice. So we
- 45:47Speaker 7: ended up seeing House of Wonderland instead, which is a
- 45:51Speaker 7: Tim Burton project as well. And I really didn't dig
- 45:54Speaker 7: it that much. Yeah.
- 45:55Speaker 6: I mean, most of what I've seen of it.
- 45:57Speaker 7: It looks really good, but you don't really care about
- 45:58Speaker 7: the characters and the story kind of is.
- 46:02Speaker 4: Whatever maybe more for kids i don't know my kid
- 46:04Speaker 4: loved it she thought it was awesome but it may
- 46:07Speaker 4: have just been more or less the visuals.
- 46:08Speaker 7: Yeah the visuals are great um johnny depp as the
- 46:11Speaker 7: manhatters decided schizophrenia was the way to go so he's
- 46:15Speaker 7: got like three different voices and he switches up on
- 46:18Speaker 7: mid-sentence and he's basically one of his voices is kind
- 46:20Speaker 7: of just johnny depp then one is boris karloff and
- 46:24Speaker 7: then one is shrek basically and he just switches back
- 46:27Speaker 7: and forth and it's It's the first time in any
- 46:30Speaker 7: Tim Burton movie where I kind of felt like he
- 46:33Speaker 7: didn't come across as endearing, but just a freak. I mean,
- 46:36Speaker 7: I'm like, I don't want to hang out with him.
- 46:37Speaker 6: No, that was Willy Wonka. I don't like him in
- 46:39Speaker 6: that one.
- 46:40Speaker 8: Oh, yeah, I hated him.
- 46:41Speaker 6: I did not like him in Willy Wonka.
- 46:43Speaker 4: I think Johnny Depp's getting a little nuttier and nuttier
- 46:46Speaker 4: as he gets older.
- 46:46Speaker 6: I blame France.
- 46:48Speaker 7: I think you can only search for so much nuttiness
- 46:50Speaker 7: before it just becomes nutty.
- 46:53Speaker 6: Well, and it doesn't even make sense anymore. It's not weird.
- 46:55Speaker 6: It's just random shit at that point.
- 46:57Speaker 9: I really feel Tim Burton really should just branch away.
- 47:00Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 47:01Speaker 9: Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp, I know they're like
- 47:03Speaker 9: your posse, but they don't need to be in every
- 47:05Speaker 9: single one of your movies. It's just kind of like,
- 47:08Speaker 9: watch Willy Wonka, watch Alice in Wonderland. What's the difference?
- 47:10Speaker 7: There's some other weird things in Alice in Wonderland. For one,
- 47:14Speaker 7: Anne Hathaway is in it as the good witch or whatever.
- 47:17Speaker 6: Yeah, the white queen.
- 47:19Speaker 7: And god damn, if he didn't make her up to
- 47:22Speaker 7: look exactly like Lisa Marie.
- 47:24Speaker 6: Which is really weird.
- 47:25Speaker 7: And that's really weird and fetishistic because she's really attractive.
- 47:30Speaker 7: And he took the makeup and went, make her look
- 47:32Speaker 7: exactly like my ex-girlfriend.
- 47:33Speaker 4: That's creepy.
- 47:34Speaker 7: And that is creepy. And that makes me wonder if
- 47:37Speaker 7: she's going to be in more of his movies.
- 47:39Speaker 4: Probably.
- 47:40Speaker 6: Or he's trading up.
- 47:42Speaker 4: Or he's dumping her. He's being slapped.
- 47:46Speaker 6: That's the one thing I can't stand, even about the trailer.
- 47:48Speaker 6: I don't like Helena Bonham Carter's giant head. And I
- 47:51Speaker 6: don't really like her in the movie either.
- 47:52Speaker 8: But in general.
- 47:56Speaker 6: I still refer to her as homewrecker.
- 47:57Speaker 8: Is she a homewrecker?
- 47:58Speaker 6: Oh, two times now.
- 47:59Speaker 7: Really?
- 48:00Speaker 6: She's a homewrecker.
- 48:01Speaker 9: Who else is homewrecked?
- 48:04Speaker 6: Kenneth Branagh. He was with Emma Thompson at one time
- 48:11Speaker 6: until they started making movies together and then he dumped
- 48:14Speaker 6: her and was with Helena Bonham Carter. Did the same
- 48:17Speaker 6: thing with Tim Burton. She's a homewrecker.
- 48:20Speaker 8: Maybe her chuch is just like candy. I don't know.
- 48:25Speaker 6: I think she.
- 48:26Speaker 9: And Tim Burton are a good match, though.
- 48:29Speaker 7: And Burton is one of those guys, he's going to
- 48:31Speaker 7: put whoever his girlfriend is, he's like Rob Zombie. They're
- 48:34Speaker 7: going to be there.
- 48:35Speaker 6: Lisa Marie at least fit his weird thing. She was pretty,
- 48:42Speaker 6: but weird looking, and she fit everything he shoved her into.
- 48:45Speaker 7: That's why I was looking at Anne Hathaway, because he
- 48:47Speaker 7: was so fetishized her to look exactly like Lisa Marie.
- 48:50Speaker 7: I'm like, I bet he's looking at her like, this
- 48:52Speaker 7: is my next girlfriend.
- 48:53Speaker 6: That's what I'm thinking. Maybe it's time to trade up.
- 48:55Speaker 7: The way you need to look when you're my girlfriend.
- 48:57Speaker 6: It's time to trade up.
- 48:58Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 48:59Speaker 6: Anne Hathaway can be the new homewrecker.
- 49:00Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
- 49:02Speaker 6: That just makes Tim Burton a slut.
- 49:06Speaker 4: Anyway, we were talking about Maleficent.
- 49:08Speaker 6: So, yeah, we got sidetracked.
- 49:09Speaker 7: Well, that's supposed to be a Tim Burton.
- 49:11Speaker 6: It's sort of the same.
- 49:12Speaker 9: Oh, speaking of Tim Burton and previously Dark Shadows, I've
- 49:16Speaker 9: heard that Tim Burton is making Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp,
- 49:18Speaker 9: of course.
- 49:19Speaker 6: With Johnny Depp as.
- 49:20Speaker 7: as, yeah. Jesus Christ. He's got a lot of projects
- 49:21Speaker 7: on there, but supposedly Johnny Depp loves Dark Shadows, and
- 49:25Speaker 7: he wanted to be Barnabas Collins when he was a kid.
- 49:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:28Speaker 7: So that is a project that's on, because every Tim
- 49:31Speaker 7: Burton movie has to have Johnny Depp.
- 49:32Speaker 4: Of course.
- 49:32Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 49:33Speaker 6: And, I mean, again, I could see Johnny Depp actually
- 49:35Speaker 6: doing a decent job with that because he's so interested
- 49:37Speaker 6: in it. I don't hate that one. Again, shoving Tim
- 49:40Speaker 6: Burton into it adds a whole new level of trouble, really.
- 49:43Speaker 7: That project interests me a little bit more than some
- 49:45Speaker 7: of the other ones he's got lined up because so
- 49:46Speaker 7: many of the projects he's got lined up are stories
- 49:48Speaker 7: that have already been done a hundred times, and he's
- 49:50Speaker 7: just going to lay his creepy weirdo style on top
- 49:53Speaker 7: of it. And I loved Tim Burton for about 20 years.
- 49:57Speaker 7: I mean, I loved all of his movies, but his
- 49:59Speaker 7: recent ones have not interested me that much.
- 50:02Speaker 8: He's not.
- 50:03Speaker 7: He's not stretching enough, I guess. Maybe I want to
- 50:06Speaker 7: see him go out of his comfort zone a little
- 50:08Speaker 7: bit or something like that.
- 50:09Speaker 9: I like Sweeney Todd, but that's the only one in between.
- 50:12Speaker 6: It's about the only thing anybody seemed to have liked lately.
- 50:15Speaker 6: It was still hit and miss, but a lot of
- 50:17Speaker 6: people I saw, that's like the exception to anything he's
- 50:20Speaker 6: done in the last 10, 15 years. It's like, no,
- 50:23Speaker 6: that was all right.
- 50:24Speaker 7: I'm not a huge musical fan, and it's not extremely rewatchable,
- 50:27Speaker 7: but it looked good.
- 50:28Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 50:29Speaker 6: It was, I don't know, the closest thing he's come
- 50:31Speaker 6: to something that wasn't a train wreck in the last
- 50:34Speaker 6: several movies.
- 50:35Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 50:36Speaker 6: So, yeah, I don't know. I guess he's still set
- 50:39Speaker 6: on to direct this. I don't know. It could be okay.
- 50:42Speaker 6: I mean, I was thinking it kind of reminds me
- 50:44Speaker 6: of the 101 Dalmatians movies. they did find a way
- 50:48Speaker 6: to take that crazy animated villainous and make it live action. Like,
- 50:51Speaker 6: you wouldn't think they'd be able to do that. They
- 50:53Speaker 6: make the villains so extreme in Disney movies that you
- 50:56Speaker 6: don't think they could make it live action. But Glenn
- 50:58Speaker 6: Close did an amazing job on that.
- 51:00Speaker 7: I guess the only thing I don't like from page
- 51:02Speaker 7: one is when you're making a movie called Maleficent, obviously
- 51:05Speaker 7: you have to sympathize with that character. And it's another,
- 51:09Speaker 7: we keep doing this, we water down our villains to
- 51:12Speaker 7: the point where Oh, they're just misunderstood. They're actually pretty
- 51:16Speaker 7: good people. Yeah, what happened?
- 51:17Speaker 4: They're just pure evil. Yeah, for real.
- 51:19Speaker 7: They don't have any villains, you know?
- 51:20Speaker 6: That's the other thing. I was thinking it's kind of
- 51:22Speaker 6: reminding me of them trying to do the 101 Dalmatians,
- 51:24Speaker 6: but it's also very much ties to Wicked. To me,
- 51:27Speaker 6: it's very much taking that, let's take the bad guy
- 51:30Speaker 6: and see what their backstory was, and then it does,
- 51:33Speaker 6: it makes it very, you know, oh, they weren't so bad, really.
- 51:35Speaker 9: Well, I mean, as much as that sucks when you
- 51:39Speaker 9: think about how movies initially were and how clear-cut the
- 51:43Speaker 9: villain was and the hero was. That's really the way
- 51:45Speaker 9: it is in real life. I mean, most people aren't
- 51:47Speaker 9: born bad, so it's kind of a more realistic way
- 51:51Speaker 9: to look at it, I think. But, you know, it's
- 51:53Speaker 9: not as fun for sure.
- 51:54Speaker 4: Yeah, Hiller was a painter.
- 51:56Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 51:56Speaker 4: He was a nice guy in the beginning, and then
- 51:58Speaker 4: something set him off.
- 51:58Speaker 8: He might have even had a cat one point.
- 52:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 52:01Speaker 2: Which made him evil.
- 52:03Speaker 6: Cats are evil.
- 52:05Speaker 4: That's it.
- 52:06Speaker 8: Stole his brain.
- 52:07Speaker 6: Your cat is a jerk.
- 52:08Speaker 8: Okay, yeah.
- 52:09Speaker 3: Cat's a jerk.
- 52:10Speaker 9: I remember when we had to lock him in a
- 52:11Speaker 9: cage at night to keep him from fighting with the
- 52:14Speaker 9: other cats. But he's really sweet now. He slept all
- 52:16Speaker 9: night in the crook of my arm, and I woke up,
- 52:18Speaker 9: and he was still there.
- 52:19Speaker 7: Jerk.
- 52:21Speaker 6: Once I've made my mind up. All right, so. The
- 52:24Speaker 6: new Buck Rogers movie.
- 52:25Speaker 7: Oh, God.
- 52:27Speaker 8: What?
- 52:27Speaker 9: Jesus Christ. What?
- 52:28Speaker 6: What? Which is being produced by the same company that
- 52:30Speaker 6: is rebooting Conan. We'll not only be taking moviegoers to
- 52:34Speaker 6: the 25th century, but also in 3D, Misty.
- 52:37Speaker 8: Midi, midi, midi.
- 52:38Speaker 2: I like 3D.
- 52:39Speaker 6: I know, I'm telling you. In 3D. We need to.
- 52:41Speaker 2: Make a Duck Rogers movie. That would be awesome.
- 52:43Speaker 8: Duck Dodgers.
- 52:43Speaker 7: We didn't say who the director was.
- 52:46Speaker 6: Yeah, we can go ahead and jump to that if
- 52:48Speaker 6: you want. The director has been hired on and it
- 52:50Speaker 6: is Paul W.S. Anderson.
- 52:53Speaker 7: That sucks, Buck.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Isn't that Mr. Mila right there?
- 52:56Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 52:57Speaker 6: He does like some Mila. But also making pretty cheesy movies.
- 53:02Speaker 6: Video game movies of every sort.
- 53:04Speaker 8: His movies are alright. They're good times.
- 53:06Speaker 6: Yeah, it's one of those... He's not as bad as
- 53:08Speaker 6: many other directors out there, but he's not.
- 53:11Speaker 7: He doesn't have a creative idea.
- 53:13Speaker 6: No, not at all. He's very run-of-the-mill.
- 53:16Speaker 7: Everything he has in his movies is stolen from other stuff.
- 53:18Speaker 6: It's just... And it's exactly what you expect out of it.
- 53:22Speaker 6: It's like you were watching it going, well, in a
- 53:24Speaker 6: minute there's going to be an explosion at least, and
- 53:26Speaker 6: damned if it doesn't come through for you. So, I mean,
- 53:28Speaker 6: it delivers for those kind of audiences. But, yeah, he's
- 53:30Speaker 6: not really creative.
- 53:33Speaker 2: You don't have to be creative these days.
- 53:34Speaker 6: Certainly not in Hollywood. So, yeah, I don't know.
- 53:37Speaker 7: I guess we had at least a few creative people.
- 53:39Speaker 2: Yeah, good luck with that.
- 53:40Speaker 7: I guess we do have a few, but.
- 53:42Speaker 4: They just keep ripping off shit. He's not one of them.
- 53:44Speaker 6: No, he's not one.
- 53:46Speaker 7: He'll probably try to make Buck Rogers his avatar or something.
- 53:49Speaker 6: Oh, Lord. Well, he's already working on a 3D version
- 53:52Speaker 6: of The Three Musketeers, which I think we talked about
- 53:54Speaker 6: a while back. So that's no.
- 53:57Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 53:58Speaker 6: I don't know what to think.
- 53:59Speaker 4: Of any of that.
- 54:00Speaker 8: Yeah, really.
- 54:01Speaker 2: Who gives a shit?
- 54:02Speaker 4: Unless they give me free candy bars.
- 54:03Speaker 7: Somebody does make a Three Musketeers movie about every five years.
- 54:06Speaker 7: At least ten.
- 54:07Speaker 6: The last one came and.
- 54:09Speaker 7: Went when nobody even noticed. What was it called? Was
- 54:11Speaker 7: it The Musketeer?
- 54:12Speaker 6: The one that was all super kung fu-like. It was
- 54:15Speaker 6: like flipping and kicking. Yeah, that was The Musketeer.
- 54:17Speaker 4: It's like Musketeers took Wushu.
- 54:19Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 54:19Speaker 4: What the hell?
- 54:20Speaker 8: Give me the Corsican Brothers. Cheech and Chong.
- 54:23Speaker 9: Okay.
- 54:23Speaker 6: That's awesome. I think you're the only one requesting that one.
- 54:26Speaker 7: Oh, come on.
- 54:27Speaker 8: It's good times.
- 54:28Speaker 6: It's no up in smoke, I can tell you.
- 54:29Speaker 8: No, this is true. I didn't love up in smoke.
- 54:31Speaker 9: You know, sometimes I still get that song stuck in
- 54:32Speaker 9: my head. Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
- 54:35Speaker 8: All the time.
- 54:36Speaker 9: I don't know why I haven't seen the movie since
- 54:37Speaker 9: I was in seventh grade.
- 54:38Speaker 8: You have to lose.
- 54:39Speaker 6: Mexican America.
- 54:40Speaker 7: That one, too.
- 54:42Speaker 9: Oh, Lord.
- 54:43Speaker 7: Somehow I got it from Buck Rogers to.
- 54:45Speaker 6: to Cheech and Chong this is this is kind of
- 54:47Speaker 6: how our buzz goes good segue we'll leave it at
- 54:49Speaker 6: that keep moving on I like Cheech.
- 54:51Speaker 7: And Chong I mean next movie is one of my
- 54:53Speaker 7: favorite you know yeah he's good he's really good what's
- 54:56Speaker 7: the next movie.
- 54:57Speaker 6: The next movie.
- 54:58Speaker 7: Cheech and Chong's next movie.
- 54:59Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 55:00Speaker 5: Oh.
- 55:02Speaker 6: Oh, Lord. So, yeah, we'll go from Cheech and Chong's
- 55:04Speaker 6: to this Murph's.
- 55:06Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 55:07Speaker 6: What? The release is already coming next summer, which I dread.
- 55:11Speaker 6: Is this live action? It creeps me the fuck out.
- 55:13Speaker 6: It creeps me to leave CG. No, it's going to
- 55:15Speaker 6: be horrible CG. So, that's already looming on the horizon.
- 55:19Speaker 4: Well, I mean, what are they going to make it? Like,
- 55:21Speaker 4: kind of in the line, like, Toy Story or.
- 55:24Speaker 6: They wish it was going to be. I can only
- 55:26Speaker 6: imagine it's going to be horrible.
- 55:27Speaker 8: Just as long as they bring back Smurfberry cereal because
- 55:29Speaker 8: that was good.
- 55:30Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, Smurfberry is good.
- 55:32Speaker 6: I've avoided most of what I know of it. But
- 55:35Speaker 6: today they said Sony Pictures has, while on that little
- 55:39Speaker 6: kick there, has announced plans for another 3D CGI animated movie.
- 55:42Speaker 4: Jesus.
- 55:44Speaker 6: Of Popeye.
- 55:44Speaker 2: Oh, come on.
- 55:46Speaker 4: Nobody can play Popeye like Robin Williams.
- 55:48Speaker 8: That's what I'm saying.
- 55:49Speaker 4: Nobody can be Popeye.
- 55:52Speaker 6: It's weird enough that there was a live action movie,
- 55:54Speaker 6: let alone, do any kids now care about an animated
- 55:58Speaker 6: Popeye movie? No. And you're not really going to be
- 56:01Speaker 6: able to sell it to adults.
- 56:03Speaker 8: Well, he's been so nerfed nowadays, he can't be as
- 56:06Speaker 8: violent as he was.
- 56:06Speaker 7: We keep talking about how young kids today don't give
- 56:09Speaker 7: a shit about any of the stuff that we like.
- 56:11Speaker 6: No.
- 56:11Speaker 7: They keep trying to.
- 56:13Speaker 6: And we didn't even care that much about Popeye.
- 56:15Speaker 8: I mean, if we're going to.
- 56:17Speaker 6: It's from 1929. It's such a dated concept.
- 56:21Speaker 7: That first volume DVD of the Popeye cartoons.
- 56:25Speaker 4: I'm not even.
- 56:26Speaker 6: Even people that I kind of liked it, I watched
- 56:28Speaker 6: it as a kid, but it's not like anybody's like, man,
- 56:31Speaker 6: my favorite cartoon was Popeye. Nobody says that. It's always like, oh, yeah,
- 56:34Speaker 6: I remember Popeye.
- 56:35Speaker 4: I was Captain Caveman.
- 56:37Speaker 7: I love Captain Caveman.
- 56:38Speaker 6: The teen angels were hot.
- 56:39Speaker 8: I actually like the Smurfs.
- 56:41Speaker 9: I still have all my Smurf.
- 56:42Speaker 4: Toys from back in the day.
- 56:44Speaker 6: I saw more than I needed to.
- 56:45Speaker 5: I'm creepy.
- 56:46Speaker 7: I mean, I like Smurfs. I had the Smurfs Atari
- 56:49Speaker 7: 2600 game.
- 56:49Speaker 9: I mean, I'm not excited about the idea of a
- 56:51Speaker 9: CGI Smurf movie.
- 56:52Speaker 6: No, it's going to be horrible.
- 56:54Speaker 8: It's one of those things you.
- 56:54Speaker 9: Like as a kid and you aren't nostalgic for as
- 56:57Speaker 9: an adult.
- 56:58Speaker 7: I still hold the Smurfs against the King's Island thing
- 57:01Speaker 7: because there was this great boat ride called the Enchanted
- 57:03Speaker 7: Voyage when I was a kid that had all these
- 57:05Speaker 7: weird cartoon characters in it. And they ruined it. And
- 57:07Speaker 7: the fucking Smurfs came in and took it over and
- 57:09Speaker 7: it became the Smurfs boat ride.
- 57:11Speaker 8: Mm-hmm.
- 57:11Speaker 7: So I'll never forgive them for that.
- 57:13Speaker 3: Bastards.
- 57:13Speaker 4: These napalm Smurfs.
- 57:15Speaker 3: Yes.
- 57:15Speaker 8: I like hefty Smurfs.
- 57:17Speaker 9: On a recent episode of South Park, they made fun of,
- 57:20Speaker 9: they had this Smurf thing. And they're like, the movie
- 57:24Speaker 9: already came out. And it was Avatar.
- 57:26Speaker 2: So it's just like.
- 57:27Speaker 9: How many CGI movies with blue people do you need?
- 57:30Speaker 7: God. I'm sure it had nothing to do with Smurfs
- 57:33Speaker 7: getting greenlit.
- 57:34Speaker 6: I'm sure. Well, this one, I mean, as if it's
- 57:36Speaker 6: not weird enough that they're making a version of a
- 57:39Speaker 6: Popeye movie. But listen to the approach that the producer
- 57:44Speaker 6: used to describe it. He says, The new version will
- 57:48Speaker 6: cover the themes of friendship, love, greed, and life, and
- 57:50Speaker 6: focus on human strengths and human frailties. Are these claims
- 57:54Speaker 6: a bit lofty for a Popeye movie?
- 57:55Speaker 7: Yeah, exactly.
- 57:56Speaker 6: What the hell?
- 57:57Speaker 8: He just beat the shit out of Bluto. Yeah, I know.
- 58:00Speaker 4: Bluto would kick his ass. Wimpy would borrow money for
- 58:03Speaker 4: a hamburger.
- 58:04Speaker 8: Marlboro's a fucking two-timing bitch.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:06Speaker 8: I mean, what else is there?
- 58:07Speaker 4: You got, uh, what was the kid's name?
- 58:11Speaker 5: Uh.
- 58:11Speaker 6: Sweet Pea.
- 58:12Speaker 2: Sweet Pea.
- 58:12Speaker 8: Yeah, Sweet Pea.
- 58:13Speaker 9: Who did that child belong to?
- 58:15Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 58:16Speaker 9: I want to think it's like olive oils or something
- 58:18Speaker 9: because she was always around it.
- 58:19Speaker 7: It seems like to me that Sweet Pea might have
- 58:21Speaker 7: been an orphan.
- 58:22Speaker 6: In the movie. I don't know how close that was
- 58:24Speaker 6: to that. But yeah, he was dropped off on like
- 58:26Speaker 6: the doorstep kind of classic tale.
- 58:28Speaker 7: You know, there's got to be a better Popeye expert
- 58:31Speaker 7: out there than us. Oh, I'm sure.
- 58:33Speaker 6: I'm sure in the comic strip it was a whole
- 58:34Speaker 6: different weird thing.
- 58:35Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 58:36Speaker 4: Who's going to be the goon? Remember the goon?
- 58:38Speaker 6: Alice the goon?
- 58:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 58:39Speaker 6: Alice the goon was creepy.
- 58:41Speaker 8: There's a whole island of goons.
- 58:43Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a whole island. Goon Island.
- 58:45Speaker 7: They're creepy.
- 58:46Speaker 4: I love Pop Pop.
- 58:46Speaker 6: They were creepy, even as a kid.
- 58:47Speaker 7: You're the only one.
- 58:48Speaker 5: What?
- 58:49Speaker 8: I like Peppy.
- 58:50Speaker 6: See, that's the thing.
- 58:51Speaker 8: That's the thing.
- 58:52Speaker 4: Okay, I worked with two guys. One guy's nickname was Popeye.
- 58:55Speaker 4: Dude looked dead up like fucking Popeye.
- 58:58Speaker 6: That's not a good guy.
- 58:59Speaker 8: No, he had huge forearms.
- 59:01Speaker 4: Yeah, he specifically worked out on his forearms just so
- 59:05Speaker 4: he could look more like Popeye. And then the guy
- 59:08Speaker 4: that I used to work with, or the guy that...
- 59:10Speaker 4: worked at the place I work at now, Pappy. They
- 59:12Speaker 4: call him Pappy. He looked like Popeye's Pappy.
- 59:14Speaker 6: Poop deck Pappy.
- 59:15Speaker 4: Poop deck Pappy. Looked exactly like him.
- 59:18Speaker 2: Weird.
- 59:19Speaker 4: I love Popeye.
- 59:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 59:21Speaker 7: I have nothing against it.
- 59:22Speaker 4: But I don't want to see a reboot.
- 59:24Speaker 6: I just don't see it working as a new movie.
- 59:26Speaker 7: I love the love-hate relationship people have with that Robert Aldrin.
- 59:31Speaker 6: I love her watching that.
- 59:32Speaker 5: I want to go.
- 59:33Speaker 8: I like that. Oh, yeah.
- 59:35Speaker 7: I don't know if I love it or not because, well,
- 59:37Speaker 7: obviously it looks great and everything, but I saw it
- 59:39Speaker 7: as a kid and it bored the dog shit out
- 59:41Speaker 7: of me. I mean, I went to see Popeye Fighting Bluto,
- 59:44Speaker 7: and I got this musical.
- 59:46Speaker 4: I was just a kid.
- 59:47Speaker 7: It was a little weird.
- 59:49Speaker 6: I'm just in awe that it got made. I kind
- 59:51Speaker 6: of want to go back and watch it and just
- 59:53Speaker 6: figure out what the hell is going on there.
- 59:55Speaker 7: I haven't watched it since I was a kid because
- 59:58Speaker 7: it upset me so badly how bored I was. I
- 1:00:01Speaker 7: wanted to fall asleep. I need to go back and look.
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: Excuse me.
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: Ahem.
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: See, God is punishing me for not liking it.
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: That's right.
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: I need to go back and watch it again.
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: I saw it not too long ago, and I didn't
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: think it was that bad.
- 1:00:13Speaker 7: Well, I know some guys that are really hip and
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: have really good taste, and they love that movie, so
- 1:00:18Speaker 7: there's got to be something to it.
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: It's love and hate, yeah.
- 1:00:20Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: Shelly Wears play Olive Oil.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:23Speaker 8: She's perfect. Shelly Duvall.
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: No, yeah, Shelly Duvall. I can't imagine, yeah. Shelly Duvall
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: is just the opposite of Olive Oil.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: Yeah, a little too accurate. That was scary.
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: All the characters actually fit the actual cartoon characters, which
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: I thought was awesome.
- 1:00:38Speaker 9: Who played Bluto?
- 1:00:40Speaker 7: Wow, I don't remember.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: I don't know that I remember him from my childhood.
- 1:00:43Speaker 9: If they were to do a live action one again,
- 1:00:46Speaker 9: John Goodman would have made the perfect Bluto. He's getting
- 1:00:50Speaker 9: pretty old now.
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: He has to grow a beard.
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: Now it'll be The Rock.
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: The Rock.
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: It'll be The Rock.
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: He's not fat enough.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: Yeah, but they don't care. As long as it brings in,
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: you know, they'll get Disney to back it or something.
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: He is on the Disney payroll now.
- 1:01:04Speaker 9: I know. The Tooth Fairy?
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:01:07Speaker 7: I don't know where Bluto's not such a bad guy. Yeah.
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: Well, that'll be the offshoot movie.
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: Bluto.
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: Oh, wait. Wasn't Bluto Rabban from Dune?
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: Was it?
- 1:01:17Speaker 7: I don't even remember.
- 1:01:18Speaker 8: I'm pretty sure it was the same guy.
- 1:01:19Speaker 7: Maybe it was that guy.
- 1:01:20Speaker 8: He's got a weird name, I think.
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: He was a weird dude.
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:01:24Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: And this story just had so many weird ideas crossing over,
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: I had to discuss it.
- 1:01:30Speaker 7: I mean.
- 1:01:31Speaker 6: Tom Hanks, musicals, and Green Day?
- 1:01:33Speaker 8: No.
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: What the hell? What was it? Yeah. Tom Hanks Playtone
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: Production Company is currently in talks to start development on
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: a movie version of the upcoming Broadway musical American Idiot.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: The music inspired by the 2004 album of the same
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: title by Green Day. Using Green Day songs to tell
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: the coming-of-age story of three small-town guys who once signed
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: up for the military, one has a drug habit, and
- 1:01:57Speaker 6: one gets his girlfriend pregnant.
- 1:01:58Speaker 8: I want to die.
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: Why?
- 1:01:59Speaker 6: I want to kill myself.
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: Who cares?
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: The Broadway musical features very little dialogue in between the songs,
- 1:02:04Speaker 6: with the music telling most of the story.
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: Let me see that Spider-Man musical with music about you, too,
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: or something. That's the edge.
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: Let me see Spider-Ham.
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: When's that coming?
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: No, it's real. I mean, you know, that is real.
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: No, it's Spider-Ham.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: It's Spider-Ham.
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: Well, they did a spinoff.
- 1:02:21Speaker 8: It's a spinoff.
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: It's a spinoff. Spider-Man, but it was Spider-Ham. And it's
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: not Spider-Pig.
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: So what is Tom Hanks involved in? Is he producing this?
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: He's producing, yeah. He's getting behind it as far as producer.
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: I don't think he's working on another movie he's going
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: to direct, so I don't think he's going to be
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: that hands-on. But yeah, his company is involved in piecing
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: this together.
- 1:02:37Speaker 9: I had a lot of respect for Tom Hanks.
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: Well, he's been producing stuff. His company is the one
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: that did Mamma Mia and it made a fortune. That
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: makes perfect sense. He knows what he's doing, obviously.
- 1:02:49Speaker 7: I'm not like a Broadway guy. That project doesn't sound
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: bad to me. I can see it being a success.
- 1:02:55Speaker 6: I can see it working on Broadway and it's a
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: weird crossover. Some stuff works from Broadway to the movies
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: and some doesn't and I don't know what it is.
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: You can't pinpoint. There's all these ones they keep trying
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: to do now ever since Chicago came along. It's like, oh, Well,
- 1:03:09Speaker 6: we need to make everything on the big screen. And
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: like half of them just die. Look at like nine.
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: Nobody cared about nine.
- 1:03:15Speaker 9: I actually want to see that.
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: That's good.
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: You play songs that people already know and like and
- 1:03:21Speaker 7: can sing along to. And that might actually work, I think.
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: That's a different crowd, though. You know, the ABBA crowd
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: is the kind of people that go to see Broadway plays.
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: The Green Day crowd, I don't think so.
- 1:03:31Speaker 7: You're right about that, but I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: That was just such a weird mixture of stuff. And
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: now getting made into a movie is even more... Like,
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: they can get away with a lot of stuff on Broadway,
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: but the big screen playing to the rest of the country,
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: Sounds like Mega Level's a poop and stupidity thing.
- 1:03:48Speaker 8: Who do they think they're catering to? It's just like,
- 1:03:51Speaker 8: you've got a property, you want to make a movie... But, yeah,
- 1:03:53Speaker 8: are you pitching it to the younger fans? Are you
- 1:03:55Speaker 8: pitching it to the older fans? Are you pitching it
- 1:03:57Speaker 8: to the younger fans that have grown up with Green
- 1:03:59Speaker 8: Day and now we're older, but still, I don't know
- 1:04:01Speaker 8: if we want to.
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: Do the whole musical about it.
- 1:04:04Speaker 7: I'm pitching it to people that have, one, joined the Army, two,
- 1:04:07Speaker 7: got their girlfriend.
- 1:04:10Speaker 8: Pregnant, three.
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: Well, that's most of the country right there, so it's
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: going to be a hit.
- 1:04:13Speaker 8: They're like, okay.
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: If you're one of these three.
- 1:04:17Speaker 6: I don't know if anybody qualifies as anything else.
- 1:04:18Speaker 8: This story is going to relate to you.
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: I'm not going to relate to it. I didn't grow
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: up with Green Day.
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: I didn't either. Green Day's my generation, so, I mean,
- 1:04:27Speaker 7: they're the same age as.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Me, basically.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: Yeah, but I never considered them. I mean, everybody's always like,
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: Green Day's Godfathers of Punk. Never considered them punk.
- 1:04:36Speaker 9: Godfathers of Punk?
- 1:04:37Speaker 7: Even they would tell you they're not the Godfathers of Punk.
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: Well, now, I've heard that label thrown around on them
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: a bunch of times, and I've never considered them punk
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: at all. Maybe it was, like, Blender magazine.
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: No, no.
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: And that's why I don't consider them my generation. They
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: were really big, what, early 90s?
- 1:04:53Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: I didn't listen to them in the early 90s.
- 1:04:56Speaker 9: You know, the only thing, like a lot of people
- 1:04:59Speaker 9: that I know, the only good thing Green Day's ever
- 1:05:01Speaker 9: done has got people initially interested in punk. And if
- 1:05:05Speaker 9: you're like a douchebag, you're going to go from Green
- 1:05:07Speaker 9: Day to like Good Charlotte. But if you're.
- 1:05:08Speaker 8: An okay person, you might go from.
- 1:05:11Speaker 9: Green Day to like. Real punk? I don't know. I mean,
- 1:05:15Speaker 9: if you started when you were like a child.
- 1:05:16Speaker 7: Dead Kennedys? Yeah.
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: I don't know. I have run into this a lot,
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: and even lately, which somebody brought this up online lately
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: and was bitching about Green Day bringing down punk, and
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: I was like, did you post this in 94? How
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: is this a relevant conversation?
- 1:05:31Speaker 7: Yeah, really. She's like, this is been going on for.
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: It has and it listed they became this huge online
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: argument about people like well they're not really fine i'm
- 1:05:39Speaker 6: like who cares i'm like who said that they're punk
- 1:05:41Speaker 6: yeah punk and they sold out i'm like they they
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: didn't sell out because they made money right off the
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: bat i was like their first album was hugely successful
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: so i was like punk or not who cares people
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: liked them they paid money for them Just don't saddle
- 1:05:57Speaker 6: them with that title. They played live.
- 1:05:59Speaker 7: Little bitty shows on the punk rock scene before the
- 1:06:02Speaker 7: album came out and became really big.
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: But who cares? I don't know. It's just so infuriating
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: that it's such a knee-jerk reaction for anybody who likes
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: punk to just bitch about Green Day. I'm like, if
- 1:06:12Speaker 6: you don't like them, that's fine.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: Yeah, you don't have to listen to them.
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: But I mean, you can't just bitch about them because
- 1:06:17Speaker 6: they're popular. It's like, obviously somebody out there likes them.
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: They've made millions of dollars off this shit.
- 1:06:21Speaker 7: Punk rock is such a weird thing. It's like, You're
- 1:06:24Speaker 7: not allowed to be successful. If you're successful, you aren't
- 1:06:27Speaker 7: punk rock. And then you can't be angry about anything
- 1:06:29Speaker 7: once you've made some money.
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: That's music and all.
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: Which is why the whole punk rock thing is so short-lived.
- 1:06:36Speaker 7: Which is why a lot of people think the Sex
- 1:06:38Speaker 7: Pistols record may be the best punk rock record ever.
- 1:06:40Speaker 7: Because it came out, it was big, and that was it.
- 1:06:43Speaker 7: And it died. They died, you know.
- 1:06:44Speaker 9: So....
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: I mean, when most of the music's dealing against big
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: corporations and stuff like that, and then you've got a
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: lot of these bands that sign up with big corporations,
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: then most of the fans that were true in the
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: beginning just kind of drop them. They're like, fuck you.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: Fuck all you guys.
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: I think that's why the Ramones were able to have
- 1:07:04Speaker 7: as long a career as they had, because they never really...
- 1:07:07Speaker 7: I mean, they never really hit big. No. They stayed
- 1:07:10Speaker 7: on the same level pretty much their entire career. Every
- 1:07:14Speaker 7: record would come out, and they'd be, oh, this is
- 1:07:15Speaker 7: going to be the big one. This is the one
- 1:07:16Speaker 7: that's going to bring them into the mainstream, and it
- 1:07:18Speaker 7: didn't happen.
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: It never happened. No, it never really did.
- 1:07:21Speaker 7: And I think that's why they had a 20-year career,
- 1:07:22Speaker 7: because they never got big.
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: They were there. They had a few songs that were
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: injected here and there into popular culture, but they just never.
- 1:07:30Speaker 7: But not really into the mainstream.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: They never bought into the big mainstream.
- 1:07:34Speaker 9: Except for now, where you can buy their t-shirts at Walmart.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: Well, yeah, that's because now after Joey Ramone died and
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: they all died, then everybody's like.
- 1:07:42Speaker 8: Johnny's dead.
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: Everybody's all of a sudden, oh my God, the Ramones
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: were such an awesome band.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: There's only one left.
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: You waited forever, and now all of a sudden they're
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: an awesome band.
- 1:07:50Speaker 7: I was always a fan of them.
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: Well, that's what I'm saying. Like, nowadays, everybody's like, oh,
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: my God, oh, my God.
- 1:07:55Speaker 7: I'm always annoyed with the whole, like, the rock and
- 1:07:58Speaker 7: roll Hall of Fame thing.
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:08:00Speaker 7: They don't induct you until somebody dies.
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:08:03Speaker 7: I mean, like, the Stooges this time because, like, Ron
- 1:08:05Speaker 7: Ashton died. I mean, the Ramones got the same thing.
- 1:08:08Speaker 7: It wasn't until after Joey died that they got in.
- 1:08:10Speaker 7: I mean, it's like. They don't appreciate it until it's
- 1:08:13Speaker 7: too late.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: Then they realize that the music's good. Oh, man, those
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: studios are pretty damn good. I've never listened to that before.
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: Mark Mountward's Kiss will be nominated as soon as Ace
- 1:08:24Speaker 7: Frehley kicks.
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: He looks like he's already dead.
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: Actually, he died years ago.
- 1:08:31Speaker 9: Are all the members of KISS still alive?
- 1:08:33Speaker 7: Well, all of Gene have great insurance.
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: Copious amounts of drugs and sex.
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: Oh, Peter feels like he's dead if it makes you
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: feel any better. You have an.
- 1:08:45Speaker 9: Ace Frehley guitar pick somewhere.
- 1:08:47Speaker 7: Nice.
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: Remember the days of kids that would dress up in
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: the KISS makeup? I know you did. Yeah.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: That was last week.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: No, no, I'm talking about older kids that were kids
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: in the neighborhood.
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: This last year.
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: Did.
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: I'm not talking during Halloween. I'm talking about during regular days.
- 1:09:03Speaker 7: I couldn't do it anymore. You can't put on Paul
- 1:09:05Speaker 7: Stanley makeup with glasses. It just doesn't work. I see
- 1:09:09Speaker 7: people do it, and I just don't want to be
- 1:09:11Speaker 7: that guy.
- 1:09:11Speaker 6: Like, no, just please stop. No, no. It's not a
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: good idea. Oh, Lord. So I think that will wrap
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: up the first half here of our punk rock extravaganza.
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: And you never mow another man's lawn.
- 1:09:23Speaker 6: That's true. If I've learned anything from Billy Joe, it's
- 1:09:27Speaker 6: that you never mow another man's lawn.
- 1:09:29Speaker 9: Once in, I think it was 1998, going on 1999.
- 1:09:34Speaker 9: He said fuck on MTV. If that's not punk, then
- 1:09:38Speaker 9: I don't want to live anymore.
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: So that means Slash is punk? He said fuck on
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: like national. He wasn't even MTV. That was on like
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: American Music Awards.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: Oh, Lord.
- 1:09:50Speaker 9: I actually watched SLC Punk the other day.
- 1:09:53Speaker 8: I don't know why.
- 1:09:54Speaker 9: It just showed up on Andrew's Netflix.
- 1:09:56Speaker 7: For some reason.
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: It's brilliant.
- 1:09:58Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a problem.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: It is fantastic.
- 1:10:00Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't like Matthew Lillard's weird tooth-to-gum ratio.
- 1:10:03Speaker 7: He's got a Miley Cyrus problem.
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: Yeah, he does.
- 1:10:06Speaker 9: He's got a Miley Cyrus mouth.
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: He's got Til Schweiger.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: He's gorgeous, so.
- 1:10:10Speaker 9: Who?
- 1:10:11Speaker 7: Til Schweiger.
- 1:10:11Speaker 9: It has James Duvall, who I love, who is a
- 1:10:14Speaker 9: sweet guy. But, yeah, it wasn't... I expected it to be, like, way...
- 1:10:19Speaker 9: more far off than it was like they actually pretty.
- 1:10:22Speaker 6: Close yeah they did a good job on it.
- 1:10:24Speaker 9: Like i thought it would just be like yeah.
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: Now a lot of the funny thing is a lot
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: of that a lot of that movie i can look
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: at parallels in my life i mean there were guys
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: that like like the till schwager character uh we had
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: a guy we used to hang out with.
- 1:10:37Speaker 7: Everything except the becoming a lawyer.
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: Part yeah well yeah yeah i didn't become a lawyer
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: i don't know what you're talking about that's what that
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: was all punk kid yeah.
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: That my best friend dying he didn't die so But, yeah,
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: a lot of that I can relate to. Rednecks and
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: having to put up with all that shit and growing
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: up in the middle of nowhere. No, we weren't in Utah,
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: but still.
- 1:10:56Speaker 7: Well, see, that's why we have to watch Over the Edge.
- 1:10:58Speaker 7: That's basically my life story, and I know you guys
- 1:11:01Speaker 7: are going to love it. We've got to watch that movie.
- 1:11:03Speaker 7: I'm telling you.
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: It looks entertaining.
- 1:11:05Speaker 9: I think my favorite part about the movie was the Mormons, though.
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: Why does that not surprise me?
- 1:11:11Speaker 9: They're fascinating. They wear special underwear.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: That's all it takes for you.
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: I think so.
- 1:11:18Speaker 9: They, they have a stock of food in their basement
- 1:11:20Speaker 9: for when the apocalypse comes. How is that not cool?
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: And paranoid.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: I totally want a stock of basement.
- 1:11:27Speaker 7: I'm telling you, the Amish are going to be the
- 1:11:28Speaker 7: only people that survive the apocalypse. They can live without
- 1:11:32Speaker 7: electricity and cell phones and all that shit. And they
- 1:11:34Speaker 7: know how to work hard and, and, and keep things going. They're,
- 1:11:37Speaker 7: they're going to be the only ones left.
- 1:11:39Speaker 9: Well, it's the same with Mormons, but they've actually used
- 1:11:41Speaker 9: technology like to their advantage. Um, I actually dated someone
- 1:11:45Speaker 9: who grew up Mormon once, so his family was Mormon.
- 1:11:47Speaker 9: I learned a little bit about it.
- 1:11:48Speaker 7: Is that how you found out about the underwear?
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's kind of fair.
- 1:11:51Speaker 9: We'd go to his mom's house, and she'd give us
- 1:11:53Speaker 9: apples and corn, and we'd eat the chickens and hang out.
- 1:11:57Speaker 9: Once she bent over, I could see her underwear, her
- 1:12:00Speaker 9: special underwear peek out of her shirt.
- 1:12:02Speaker 8: He explained it to me once.
- 1:12:04Speaker 7: Interesting.
- 1:12:05Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:12:06Speaker 9: But anyway, they actually have a catalog of everyone who's
- 1:12:11Speaker 9: ever been part of the Mormon church. And if a
- 1:12:13Speaker 9: disaster strikes, like an earthquake or like a flood or something,
- 1:12:18Speaker 9: they'll go and find people who used to belong to
- 1:12:22Speaker 9: their church.
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: Everybody else is screwed pretty much.
- 1:12:24Speaker 9: Huh?
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: Everyone else is scared.
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: That's pretty much how the rapture works.
- 1:12:28Speaker 7: If you lost your.
- 1:12:29Speaker 9: House or if you lost your family or your legs,
- 1:12:32Speaker 9: they'll pay for your medical expenses.
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: They give you their legs?
- 1:12:36Speaker 7: They'll give you their legs.
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: Magic legs.
- 1:12:39Speaker 8: Robot legs.
- 1:12:40Speaker 9: They'll build prosthetic legs for you.
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: They do keep very good records. They do, yeah. They
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: keep records on everybody. So that's how we got a
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: lot of our family records was going to the Mormon
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: church and dad went through their record archives. They keep
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: records on people that aren't even Mormon. So not movie related.
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: On that note, Green Day!
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: Never rub another man's lawn!
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: Never rub another man's rhubarb.
- 1:13:05Speaker 6: We will wrap up this up. We will wrap up
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: part one here.
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: Jack Nicholson in Batman. Never rub another man's rhubarb.
- 1:13:13Speaker 6: How sad is now I remember that. We will wrap
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: up part one here and invite you to come back
- 1:13:18Speaker 6: and join us for this week's Easter extravaganza.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: If you really want to.
- 1:13:22Speaker 6: The horrific Night of the Lepus.
- 1:13:24Speaker 7: Night of the Lepus. Come back and join us.
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: Yay, come back.
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: Welcome to our new kind of tension.
- 1:13:28Speaker 8: All across the alien nation.
- 1:13:56Speaker 11: Well, maybe I'm the faggot America.
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: We'll see you next time.
- 1:15:21Speaker 11: Welcome to a new kind of tension All across the
- 1:15:25Speaker 11: alien nation Everything is meant to be okay Death is
- 1:15:29Speaker 11: like dreams of tomorrow We're not the ones meant to
- 1:15:34Speaker 11: follow For nothing left to argue.
