I Went to a PRIDE Event. I Found the Groomers. They were Evangelical Christians.
Today, I attended a PRIDE event at a small town here in North Carolina known to be decidedly conservative and extremely slow to embrace LGBTQ equality. (Such an area is not an anomaly here in the South, sadly.)
Given this reality, it was a surprising and glorious site as hundreds and hundreds of people streamed into a huge swath of a local public park that had been transformed into a kaleidoscopic temporary home from queer folks, allies, advocates, and loved ones to celebrate simple existence. It’s hard to imagine that anyone would go out of their way to come to a place like this to oppose…
