- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Of course, I am your host, Clay, and with me
- 0:30Speaker 2: like always is Katie.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Hello everyone. You know what I was doing good enough
- 0:38Speaker 3: to make social media posts on our stores.
- 0:41Speaker 2: And I just realized you need to send me the
- 0:44Speaker 2: link to that shirt. On Wednesdays we wear Star Wars
- 0:49Speaker 2: of course, and I have never seen that shirt before and.
- 0:52Speaker 3: I don't remember where I picked it up. I know
- 0:57Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to go back and look at my receipts.
- 1:01Speaker 3: This has artwork on it with it. For the YouTubers,
- 1:08Speaker 3: I'm gonna let you read it because I'm not gonna
- 1:10Speaker 3: say what it is, just in case.
- 1:14Speaker 2: You know well. But also the the I've learned that
- 1:19Speaker 2: algorithms and even just vocal.
- 1:25Speaker 3: You know who in question.
- 1:27Speaker 2: It's so stupid, It's legitimately stupid.
- 1:31Speaker 3: But hey, if Clay finds if I find the link
- 1:35Speaker 3: to the shirt, because it was a podcasters shirt site,
- 1:40Speaker 3: I do remember that I don't remember which podcast, but
- 1:47Speaker 3: if if we find the link, then Clay will put
- 1:50Speaker 3: it in the description box below for everybody on the
- 1:53Speaker 3: podcast side of things to look at.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I don't see it immediately when I search those words
- 2:05Speaker 2: and sabine t shirt. So well, I'll go on a
- 2:11Speaker 2: little hunt tonight and see if I can find it.
- 2:13Speaker 2: But guys, we have very little news and much of
- 2:21Speaker 2: anything to talk about, so of course we were not
- 2:26Speaker 2: live last week, more so due to some private matters
- 2:33Speaker 2: and everything else. You guys did, of course see that
- 2:38Speaker 2: we have our low Red Moon review now up, so
- 2:45Speaker 2: if you guys are interested, I would almost even say
- 2:51Speaker 2: if you've played the game but you haven't, of course
- 2:55Speaker 2: read the book, because the book is wait, is the
- 2:58Speaker 2: book out? Yeah? Hold on, no, no, next week on Tuesday,
- 3:03Speaker 2: That's right, next week. I would even say.
- 3:07Speaker 3: We did not talk major spoilers, so I feel like
- 3:11Speaker 3: you could.
- 3:11Speaker 2: You could if you've watched if you've either watched the
- 3:15Speaker 2: cut scenes or played the game, I would say you
- 3:18Speaker 2: could still listen to our review. And then if you
- 3:22Speaker 2: have played the game, I would say it's almost one
- 3:25Speaker 2: recommended that you read the book because story it was
- 3:34Speaker 2: so good, so good, it was so good.
- 3:38Speaker 3: We do have two things of news to talk about. Uh,
- 3:42Speaker 3: not a lot of news, like Klay said, but some news.
- 3:48Speaker 3: The first bit of news is kind of more minor,
- 3:52Speaker 3: but it looks like Star Wars Lucasfilm Publishing is bridging
- 3:59Speaker 3: out in their comic endeavors, and we'll be working with
- 4:05Speaker 3: Mad Cave Studios.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Mad Cave and paper Cuts. I used to work with
- 4:10Speaker 2: them when I worked with Lunar. It is a great company.
- 4:14Speaker 2: It is very family friendly. I was very excited at
- 4:18Speaker 2: this news. Sorry to cut you off there, but I
- 4:20Speaker 2: was genuinely excited. I saw this news not on any
- 4:24Speaker 2: social media because I don't really count LinkedIn as social media,
- 4:31Speaker 2: even though it is. It's more professional, and so when
- 4:37Speaker 2: I saw the news there on LinkedIn, I got really
- 4:41Speaker 2: really excited. So Star Wars is in good hands over
- 4:45Speaker 2: there over at paper Cuts. So if you guys are
- 4:49Speaker 2: looking for more of a family friendly, kid friendly adaptation,
- 4:56Speaker 2: this will definitely be it.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Yeah, it says that they're going to be focusing, like
- 5:01Speaker 3: you said, family friendly, solely middle grade Star Wars graphic novels.
- 5:06Speaker 3: So very excited that this is not going to be
- 5:09Speaker 3: individual comics that will then be transposed into a graphic novel.
- 5:15Speaker 3: So like this means like this is the first grap Basically,
- 5:22Speaker 3: both graphic novels that are currently planned will be released
- 5:25Speaker 3: this fall. The first book named Star Wars Smugglers and
- 5:29Speaker 3: Scoundrels The Race for Javas Bounty is written by none
- 5:34Speaker 3: other than Kevin Scott's UH, with art by Christian Colbert,
- 5:40Speaker 3: and when teasing the story, Scott says that this will
- 5:44Speaker 3: be Jackson's one of his favorite characters from Legends that
- 5:48Speaker 3: he's been able to introduce back into canon, and so
- 5:52Speaker 3: this will be Jackson's first meeting with long term rival
- 5:55Speaker 3: Hans Solo. The summary is available on your favorite comic
- 6:03Speaker 3: publisher of sorts. We're not going to read that for you, guys,
- 6:07Speaker 3: But the second one UH is entitled Star Wars Tales
- 6:11Speaker 3: from the Outer Rim the Legend of Beggars Canyon, and
- 6:14Speaker 3: it is written by Greg Pack with art by Brint Shootover.
- 6:23Speaker 3: And this one it highlights eerie forces awaiting Luke and
- 6:27Speaker 3: Biggs and Beggars Canyon and a story that Pack describes
- 6:30Speaker 3: as a rare study of Luke's relationship with his seldom
- 6:34Speaker 3: seen childhood friends and enemies. This story also reintroduces a
- 6:40Speaker 3: Legends deep cut character named Tank. So familiar it was
- 6:49Speaker 3: it was going around on social media over the past
- 6:54Speaker 3: couple of days, but is very deep cut, and so guys,
- 7:03Speaker 3: I think this is Pack's first Star Wars comic. I
- 7:06Speaker 3: feel like, uh.
- 7:08Speaker 2: No, Greg Pack has done Star Wars for Marble. I
- 7:14Speaker 2: do believe.
- 7:15Speaker 3: I don't. I'm not seeing it. Hold on, Okay, yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 3: he's done recent Darth Vader.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Run hold on a second. See, guys, this is.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Why you don't trust Wikipedia, because Wikipedia does not have everything.
- 7:38Speaker 3: So yes, he did the Age of Rebellion comics and
- 7:42Speaker 3: then he also tackle. He's done several Star Wars twenty
- 7:47Speaker 3: fifteen comics.
- 7:50Speaker 2: And then I think that's what got him the gig
- 7:53Speaker 2: Darth Vader. Yep.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Yeah, so his the main thing he's going to be
- 7:58Speaker 3: known for is Drive Beer twenty twenty.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yeah. So as far as like Star Wars goes, those
- 8:09Speaker 2: are his big things. He's also done things. He's done
- 8:12Speaker 2: other things at Marvel. He's done Hulk, he's done Silver Surfer,
- 8:17Speaker 2: he's done Magneto. I think he's also done like Stranger
- 8:23Speaker 2: Things over a dark Horse, like He's He's done a
- 8:25Speaker 2: lot of stuff. Greg Pac really really fun writer. I'm
- 8:38Speaker 2: really really interested in the page count for these because
- 8:44Speaker 2: I have two graphic novels from paper cuts that I
- 8:48Speaker 2: gave Amber Lynn, one of them being a Disney's Disney Fairies,
- 8:54Speaker 2: the Tinkerbell Books a graphic novel as well as a
- 9:00Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, what's the movie about the girl who
- 9:03Speaker 2: turns Red Panda? Red Panda? Yeah, we also were able
- 9:10Speaker 2: to get her a Red Panda graphic novel from paper Cuts.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Great format, really good way to teach kids how to
- 9:20Speaker 2: read comics with paper cuts. So if you ever want
- 9:25Speaker 2: to go that route. Nice.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Well, it looks like the Race for Job Is Bounty,
- 9:31Speaker 3: the one from Cavin Scott, will be available September fifteenth,
- 9:34Speaker 3: twenty twenty six, and then The Legend of Beggars Canyon
- 9:39Speaker 3: with Greg Pack will be available October thirteenth of this year.
- 9:44Speaker 3: So happy birthday in me, all right. So to the
- 9:52Speaker 3: trailer that we were teased with. I think this is
- 9:56Speaker 3: the first time we've had to tease for a Star
- 9:58Speaker 3: Wars trailer like the day before it came out. Basically,
- 10:03Speaker 3: I know we've had like teaser trailers, but like this
- 10:07Speaker 3: was like we got notification what Wednesday? I think it
- 10:12Speaker 3: was the it was the day before, yeah yeah, and
- 10:16Speaker 3: it was like, oh, yeah, tomorrow trailer.
- 10:20Speaker 2: It may have actually been Tuesday actually when I think
- 10:22Speaker 2: about it, because.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I think I remember that. Yeah, because and I say
- 10:27Speaker 3: remember that, y'all make fun of my memory all you went.
- 10:32Speaker 3: But I was like, dang, if we've been recording Wednesday,
- 10:34Speaker 3: we would have been able to cover this drive.
- 10:38Speaker 2: And I'm not going to give anybody flak, especially not
- 10:41Speaker 2: you KD because most people don't know. Mommy brain lasts
- 10:46Speaker 2: up to four years, which is absolutely insane.
- 10:50Speaker 3: And especially with migraine brain just in general, the brain
- 10:56Speaker 3: fuzzes is real.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yeah, we got a trailer which is in fact the
- 11:07Speaker 2: trailer that was shown at Celebration. I believe, I believe
- 11:14Speaker 2: I saw one. I believe I saw one or two
- 11:16Speaker 2: people did confirm that it was the trailer from Celebration.
- 11:22Speaker 2: We had only seen maybe like one small teaser from
- 11:29Speaker 2: it from Celebration, and then everything else was just taken
- 11:32Speaker 2: down super quickly, so nobody really got to see that
- 11:36Speaker 2: trailer this I I'm trying to get it on my computer,
- 11:45Speaker 2: and my computer's running slow for some reason. But I
- 11:49Speaker 2: really enjoyed the look of this. And the reason why
- 11:53Speaker 2: I say I enjoy the look of this because we
- 11:57Speaker 2: will talk about the animation here in a second, but
- 12:03Speaker 2: it's dark.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I love it as it.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Should be because this is a Sith Lord series. But
- 12:14Speaker 2: there was a moment where I like blinked and I
- 12:18Speaker 2: missed it, but I saw the aftermath and I was like, oh,
- 12:24Speaker 2: Maul just you know, shot his lightsaber through the juggular
- 12:27Speaker 2: of somebody. Why would they show that in a trailer?
- 12:32Speaker 2: And I had to watch it twice and I was like, oh,
- 12:34Speaker 2: wait a second, that's a droid. Okay. Yeah, but still
- 12:39Speaker 2: the precision, the malice, like the violence of it is
- 12:47Speaker 2: still very dark. And I kind of like the direction.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I like how much they're getting into it.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it looks like just it feels like Star Wars
- 13:07Speaker 3: kind of taking a step back, and like, especially with
- 13:12Speaker 3: the tea ceremony in the beginning, like it's going back
- 13:15Speaker 3: to its heritage almost, and like I just love it.
- 13:21Speaker 3: So this takes place primarily on the planet Janis, which
- 13:27Speaker 3: is a completely new planet, and the way they phrased
- 13:32Speaker 3: it is like basically this planet is like Metropolis and
- 13:38Speaker 3: Gotham all in one sort of thing, and just the
- 13:43Speaker 3: artwork and the animation, it looks incredible. Guys, this is
- 13:50Speaker 3: this does feel like Clone Wars animation on first glips. However,
- 13:57Speaker 3: they have improved on and kind of taking it to
- 14:01Speaker 3: the next level. Obviously, we've seen the hairstyles of Clone Wars.
- 14:05Speaker 3: This is just one example of guys, but we've seen
- 14:08Speaker 3: the hairstyles of Clone Wars. Guys. These people actually have
- 14:11Speaker 3: hair like hairals in this. This is not just the
- 14:16Speaker 3: helmet hair.
- 14:17Speaker 2: This isn't blockie hairstyles. I like this. It gives it fluidity.
- 14:25Speaker 2: It has fluidity. Did I just said the witty it.
- 14:36Speaker 2: I like the flow of it, like literally, like I
- 14:39Speaker 2: like how everything moves. Yeah. And I saw a lot
- 14:43Speaker 2: of people were like, why does it look so weird?
- 14:49Speaker 2: And I'm like, guys, we've been through this for eighteen years. Yeah, which,
- 15:00Speaker 2: by the way, blew my freaking mind, Brent, So yeah,
- 15:07Speaker 2: hold on, hold on, Brint. Brent shared a video with
- 15:14Speaker 2: me and it was, of course, uh the Ahsoka actress.
- 15:23Speaker 2: She was, Yes, Ashley. She went to Disneyland to celebrate
- 15:31Speaker 2: Ahsoka Day. I believe it it was Ahsoka Day. I
- 15:36Speaker 2: can't remember. Let me actually just pull it up. My
- 15:39Speaker 2: volumes all the way down. I don't know if anybody
- 15:42Speaker 2: actually heard. Just a couple of minutes ago, my sound
- 15:44Speaker 2: was just blaring when I tried to grab the trailer. Uh,
- 15:49Speaker 2: but where's Brent. Brent showed me this video and I
- 15:54Speaker 2: was like, what is going on? So in the video
- 16:00Speaker 2: it says it has been Ashley the actress who brought
- 16:03Speaker 2: Ahsokatana to life eighteen years ago. She was at Disney
- 16:12Speaker 2: World in Galaxy's Edge, right, yeah, and I just uh
- 16:16Speaker 2: And it says Ashley surprises fans on Ahsokatano Day. So
- 16:21Speaker 2: it was Ahsokatana Day three days ago. I watched it
- 16:27Speaker 2: twice and then I finally realized what it said at
- 16:30Speaker 2: the caption. It's been eighteen years since the movie came
- 16:35Speaker 2: out in theaters.
- 16:38Speaker 3: That's insane.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Eighteen Holy crap.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Like, guys, I turned thirty this past year. So I
- 16:50Speaker 3: always like to make fun of the gua guys, because
- 16:52Speaker 3: I'm like the.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Youngest of the n you are the youngest of everybody.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Yeah, So like just the fact that that shocks me
- 17:01Speaker 3: too is just like wild. Yeah, that's insane.
- 17:09Speaker 2: I need Okay, So she is how old is she? Wow?
- 17:16Speaker 2: She's older than I thought she was. She's forty four,
- 17:21Speaker 2: So thirty four, she was twenty six, twenty six ft yeah,
- 17:30Speaker 2: WinCE her birthday, It really depends, but yeah, twenty six,
- 17:34Speaker 2: she was twenty six.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Insane insane.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I was.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Wow.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Eighteen years ago, I was gosh, I was I was
- 17:52Speaker 2: about to graduate. It was junior year, senior year, one
- 17:57Speaker 2: of between the two.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Yeah, nineteen years ago, I was being homeschooled.
- 18:01Speaker 2: So absolutely insane when I when I saw it, it
- 18:15Speaker 2: had been eighteen years, blew my mind. And I just
- 18:20Speaker 2: want to say, we have been here for eighteen years,
- 18:24Speaker 2: have we? Guys? I was there midnight release in my
- 18:29Speaker 2: homemade Jedi robe at the theater. My dad fell asleep
- 18:39Speaker 2: because he didn't like the animation. There's people that were
- 18:44Speaker 2: in the theater that were talking because they didn't like it.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I remember all the hate that this show got.
- 18:53Speaker 3: I actually was not in theaters because of just because
- 18:58Speaker 3: of my age. My mom was like, no, we only
- 19:01Speaker 3: go to the theaters on Christmas Day because I have
- 19:03Speaker 3: I have three siblings. It's expensive to take six people
- 19:06Speaker 3: to the movies, even back then in two thousand and eight.
- 19:12Speaker 3: So but y'all, I had been a Star Wars fan,
- 19:14Speaker 3: I've been here. I would have gone to the theaters
- 19:17Speaker 3: if I'd been allowed to.
- 19:19Speaker 2: And like I understand, like guys, freaking into the Spider Verse.
- 19:29Speaker 2: People thought it was weird looking in the trailer. When
- 19:33Speaker 2: the movie came out, people were like, oh.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Shit, right, I still do think it's weird looking. I
- 19:40Speaker 3: don't vibe with the comic style animation.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I think I I was watching like we're in the
- 19:47Speaker 2: middle of watching the second one now me and Abby are,
- 19:52Speaker 2: and the second one I think when a little crazy
- 19:55Speaker 2: with especially the changing of the color. I can see
- 19:59Speaker 2: how it can be straining on the eyes, especially with
- 20:05Speaker 2: your with Mira and everything else. Yeah, yes, I can
- 20:08Speaker 2: understand why it's a little bit more difficult for you.
- 20:13Speaker 2: We have gotten eighteen years of this animation, guys, yep,
- 20:19Speaker 2: and you see one hair follicle and you're like, uh,
- 20:22Speaker 2: that's weird, that's silly, guys.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it's super silly, gorgeous. It looks like what we
- 20:31Speaker 3: would expect it to feel, while also taking it up
- 20:35Speaker 3: a notch and really going back to the basics of
- 20:37Speaker 3: animation because animation did used to have individual hair follicles.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing different animation styles
- 20:48Speaker 3: and seeing what people can come up with, but people
- 20:51Speaker 3: really used to take time with the animation and really
- 20:55Speaker 3: make it look realistic, and so I'm super happy with this.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Visual effects director Joel Aaron uh uh. Athena Portillo even
- 21:08Speaker 3: says he went back to the practical ways of capturing
- 21:12Speaker 3: brushstrokes by painting them on glass and then shooting them, uh,
- 21:17Speaker 3: shooting them with then strategically placing them on shots like.
- 21:22Speaker 3: I love that. It's really traditional and it I'm super
- 21:28Speaker 3: excited for this, guys. This is going to be premiering
- 21:33Speaker 3: April sixth with two episodes, and we'll be continuing with
- 21:37Speaker 3: two episodes a week until the finale on May fourth.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Uh.
- 21:44Speaker 3: How do we feel about this being a Monday release, Clay.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I don't like it. There's there's there's a con, and
- 21:53Speaker 2: there's a pro pro. Mondays are my day off, So
- 21:57Speaker 2: there is no problem that I'm going to have actually
- 22:01Speaker 2: watching this. The problem that I have is that there's
- 22:07Speaker 2: two days until we record and now two episodes that
- 22:13Speaker 2: I need to refresh my mind on when we actually record.
- 22:19Speaker 2: About it, right, And we've talked to the other Geek
- 22:25Speaker 2: First guys and the GUA guys and we assume this
- 22:30Speaker 2: is because of Daredevil.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Yeah, because Daredevil is premiering I think two weeks before
- 22:40Speaker 3: it on the twenty fourth.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yeah, which is the twenty fourth, a Tuesday. Yeah, Yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 2: so that is the reason that they are. They're not
- 22:55Speaker 2: wanting them to clash. Here's the thing. You could still
- 23:00Speaker 2: do it on a Wednesday, like you've been doing it.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Well.
- 23:05Speaker 3: I think the problem is is that they would rather
- 23:09Speaker 3: have the Talk of the Town be on the live
- 23:12Speaker 3: action thing. So by premiering it on Monday, you allowed
- 23:16Speaker 3: Daredevil to take over Tuesday Night for the rest of
- 23:18Speaker 3: the week, for the rest of the week.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Now, of course everybody at Lucasfilm is like, oh, but
- 23:25Speaker 2: the finale is on May fourth.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Oh cool. You've done it in the past where you
- 23:33Speaker 3: just reschedule the final.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Episode exactly exactly and up until this point. Now, again,
- 23:41Speaker 2: this may be another reason why they're doing this is
- 23:46Speaker 2: as of right now, there is nothing else planned for
- 23:50Speaker 2: Star Wars Day. There's nothing else debuting on May fourth,
- 23:56Speaker 2: So I understand that they really want the hype to
- 24:00Speaker 2: be around this show on May fourth, which is a
- 24:04Speaker 2: little disappointing in my mind, Like I feel like there
- 24:07Speaker 2: was a lot more in recent years.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Yeah, because you had the Tales of the Blank premiering
- 24:13Speaker 3: on May fourth, and with this, I don't imagine that
- 24:17Speaker 3: we're going to get another Tales series this year.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think there will be one that is, like,
- 24:23Speaker 2: I don't I don't think there will be like a
- 24:24Speaker 2: shadow drop of yeah, tales of whatever. Of course, again, guys,
- 24:32Speaker 2: we also have Mandalorian Grogu like just on you know what,
- 24:38Speaker 2: uh four months from.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Now, twenty second of May May so yeah, yeah, so.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Like it. I don't think they're really going to try
- 24:53Speaker 2: to push anything other than Mandalorian Grogu.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Well you would think that though, but we've only seen
- 25:00Speaker 3: one trailer for mandelarn Groco.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Uh. Actually, I believe I just saw that.
- 25:09Speaker 3: There's supposed to be another one next week.
- 25:11Speaker 2: There's apparently a trailer already out there in theaters. Did
- 25:18Speaker 2: I read that right?
- 25:18Speaker 3: I saw that one. It was very close, if not
- 25:22Speaker 3: the exact same as the one that Yeah, because I
- 25:30Speaker 3: saw what movie did I go see? I saw the
- 25:33Speaker 3: The Anaconda movie and it was attached to that one.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Okay, so.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Very close, if not identical trailer.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I got there. I don't know, like, I like,
- 25:48Speaker 2: what are we going to see like a a the
- 25:51Speaker 2: timeline actually wouldn't really work. But are we going to
- 25:55Speaker 2: see some sort of like reveal at the end of
- 25:58Speaker 2: mall that connects to Mandalori and Grogu like, I would
- 26:02Speaker 2: actually kind of hate that.
- 26:05Speaker 3: But what if you saw Okay, here's a question, what
- 26:08Speaker 3: if you saw Carl Weathers character.
- 26:12Speaker 2: The connection there, I can I can see it because
- 26:16Speaker 2: because of how mal is uh kind of the underground Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 2: evil dude, that is like borderline set and everything I
- 26:30Speaker 2: can see. Of course with Carl Weathers be well, hm,
- 26:35Speaker 2: you what, No, I have to be okay. I have
- 26:38Speaker 2: to be okay with everybody else being recasted. I have
- 26:40Speaker 2: to be okay with Carl Weathers being recast just the
- 26:43Speaker 2: way it is. I think that.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Especially with a voice actor, like, there's no guarantee that
- 26:52Speaker 3: he would well, I mean.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Because we we already have Prince Lea recasted with the voices. Yeah, so.
- 26:59Speaker 3: I think okay with my toddler, apparently she is not
- 27:03Speaker 3: very happy going to.
- 27:06Speaker 2: I think I think it would be okay. Actually, now
- 27:09Speaker 2: that I'm thinking about.
- 27:10Speaker 3: It, Well, the characters that we do know are present,
- 27:15Speaker 3: so are red Twilek does look to be a former
- 27:20Speaker 3: Jedi Padawane. Uh. Her name is Devin is Zara and
- 27:26Speaker 3: she is voiced by Gideon Adlon, who is a recent
- 27:29Speaker 3: Golden Globe winner. Uh. There's a detective kind of guy
- 27:42Speaker 3: that makes an appearance. His name is Brandler Lawson and
- 27:47Speaker 3: he is being voiced by Wagner mourra uh. And then
- 27:51Speaker 3: we have a returning Star Wars voice actor, uh, Richard Ayo.
- 27:58Speaker 3: I'm totally gonna butcher this last name. I apologize a
- 28:01Speaker 3: laid as two Boots.
- 28:03Speaker 2: And he.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Was the Protocol assistant droid dude from the Force und Leash. So, oh, yes,
- 28:13Speaker 3: what are reuniting as?
- 28:15Speaker 2: That's right, Yes, I remember you posting that in the
- 28:19Speaker 2: Star Wars chat. Yeah, yeah, that is really cool. That
- 28:23Speaker 2: is really cool that Sam's first connection to Star Wars,
- 28:31Speaker 2: like his first project in Star Wars, he gets to
- 28:34Speaker 2: reunite with some of somebody from that cast. I think
- 28:36Speaker 2: that's really really cool.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Yeah. So yes, what do you feel about us having
- 28:46Speaker 3: another Order sixty six survivor.
- 28:51Speaker 2: This one? I think realistically is not controversial because of
- 28:59Speaker 2: the timeline. Yeah, like, honestly, from what this is looking
- 29:08Speaker 2: like and unless this show does confirm it otherwise, this
- 29:14Speaker 2: is taking place after Clone Wars, but before Rebels. So
- 29:25Speaker 2: we know that Mal wanders to that temple in Rebels
- 29:35Speaker 2: and that's where we see Mall first, right, yep. So
- 29:41Speaker 2: we're either gonna find out how he gets there or
- 29:45Speaker 2: kind of like the steps to get to that point.
- 29:51Speaker 2: So in order to really get there, like, we need this,
- 29:57Speaker 2: And I think that is fine. I think that is
- 29:59Speaker 2: fine as especially with Order sixty six in the Clone
- 30:06Speaker 2: Wars timeline is the most recent thing we've seen. Order
- 30:12Speaker 2: sixty six literally was the most recent thing we've seen.
- 30:15Speaker 2: So if you guys want to refresh, literally watch the
- 30:21Speaker 2: last three episodes of Clone Wars and then start Mal,
- 30:27Speaker 2: I bet you anything it works.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Like that, Yeah, because Mal's in the last three Yeah,
- 30:34Speaker 3: I would imagine so as well. The other thing that
- 30:37Speaker 3: people can do to prepare, which I don't think we've
- 30:40Speaker 3: talked about this that much, is the Shadow of Mall comic.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Oh yes, which is a prequel for the series. It's
- 30:51Speaker 3: a five issue prequel series written by Benjamin Percy. Percy, yes,
- 31:00Speaker 3: all right, I was blending the lines together.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Was uh Percy is he's a very niche writer any
- 31:12Speaker 2: of your like gritty characters, so Wolverine ghostwriter all, he
- 31:20Speaker 2: very much knows how to write that type of characters.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Yeah. He did do an issue in Star Wars Darth Maul,
- 31:27Speaker 3: Black White and Red series, so he's already tackled mall
- 31:30Speaker 3: previously and this will be fun for us because, uh,
- 31:36Speaker 3: the art is being done by Madabik Musa Bekoff, who
- 31:42Speaker 3: is working on Star Wars Jedi Knights as the artist there,
- 31:46Speaker 3: which is about the only good thing we had to
- 31:48Speaker 3: say about that. Yes, that sounds horrible, guys, but I'm
- 31:53Speaker 3: just being honest.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Yeah, But also, like guys, I will say this, a
- 31:59Speaker 2: lot of people people are kind of iffy on Percy's writing.
- 32:04Speaker 2: I really enjoy his writing, and that's more so because
- 32:10Speaker 2: I like variety. There's a lot of people that are like, oh,
- 32:13Speaker 2: I like to read my happy go looking superheroes and
- 32:18Speaker 2: maybe every once in a while like controversial story. And like,
- 32:22Speaker 2: the most recent thing that I've read from Percy is
- 32:26Speaker 2: Freaking Ghostwriter and dealing with demons and very supernatural stuff
- 32:35Speaker 2: and scary and and all sorts of ghosts and ghouls
- 32:38Speaker 2: and everything. It got really dark, really fast in that book.
- 32:43Speaker 2: And I think he would be perfect for somebody who
- 32:47Speaker 2: is enriched in rage, like mom, So I think it'll
- 32:52Speaker 2: be fine. Yeah.
- 32:55Speaker 3: The prequel comic will introduce the Brandler Losson character as
- 33:04Speaker 3: well as or Brander Lasson as well as the Two Boots.
- 33:10Speaker 2: When does that start?
- 33:11Speaker 3: That comes out at the beginning of March first Wednesday
- 33:16Speaker 3: in March.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Okay is the fourth So okay, not bad, not bad,
- 33:25Speaker 2: but yeah.
- 33:26Speaker 3: I think I think that's about it with this. Guys.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Obviously we're not going to analyze the trailer. We're not
- 33:32Speaker 3: the type of people to analyze the trailer frame by frame.
- 33:35Speaker 3: This is super exciting for us. Clay it took a
- 33:39Speaker 3: month off of his episode planning duties.
- 33:45Speaker 2: I'm so hyped about that. And that's more so because,
- 33:52Speaker 2: like I was even telling Abby today, it's like, Hey,
- 33:55Speaker 2: all of my time that I'm supposed to be planning
- 33:58Speaker 2: and and I'm not going to air out my grievances here,
- 34:01Speaker 2: but the gua knows twenty six has not been twenty
- 34:07Speaker 2: twenty six is not my year. I'll just say that, guys,
- 34:11Speaker 2: so far, and it's only exactly so I'll take anything.
- 34:15Speaker 2: I'll take anything that that helps me out. So before
- 34:20Speaker 2: we move on to our main review of today is
- 34:24Speaker 2: in fact the third book in the Baine trilogy, being
- 34:28Speaker 2: Dynasty of Evil, I did want to go ahead and
- 34:31Speaker 2: touch on this very small, detailed thing dealing with the
- 34:37Speaker 2: man Lurian and Grogu. We have now since learned that
- 34:43Speaker 2: there is There was this rumor that was like, oh,
- 34:47Speaker 2: if Mandalorian Grogu does horribly wrong, then Feloni will never
- 34:53Speaker 2: get his movie, like his his big like Mando Verse movie, right,
- 35:00Speaker 2: And I thought that was, like, hmmm, he's now the
- 35:03Speaker 2: co president. I don't think he's gonna let it go.
- 35:06Speaker 3: That the man can do what he wants exactly.
- 35:09Speaker 2: And so we've gotten confirmation from Daniel Rpka stating that
- 35:17Speaker 2: it will be reworked as a limited series if big
- 35:23Speaker 2: word being if the Mandalorian Grogu flops at the box office.
- 35:30Speaker 2: So we had heard before that, Ohsoka season three is
- 35:38Speaker 2: not being greenlit yet, and everything was kind of hanging
- 35:44Speaker 2: on Mandalorian Grogu. My question to you is, Katie, because
- 35:52Speaker 2: you've kind of I feel like given your answer sort
- 35:56Speaker 2: of with the comment of oh, we've only seen one trailer,
- 36:02Speaker 2: how do you feel Mandalorian Grogu will do right now,
- 36:09Speaker 2: like just like off the cuff? Do you think this
- 36:14Speaker 2: will immediately be a hit currently with the transition of
- 36:21Speaker 2: Kathleen Kennedy being out, like the movie was already made
- 36:26Speaker 2: right before Kathleen Kennedy left YEP, it could still the
- 36:32Speaker 2: her leaving can still affect how the box office acts
- 36:37Speaker 2: today because of the quick or lack thereof slow decisions
- 36:44Speaker 2: that Feloni and Brennan make during the box office run.
- 36:50Speaker 2: I feel like, so, how do you feel? How do
- 36:53Speaker 2: you feel about the movie right now?
- 37:03Speaker 3: I mean, obviously I'm gonna go see it, So nothing
- 37:07Speaker 3: that happens in the day to day for Lucasil other
- 37:11Speaker 3: than if they like just blanketly go, I'm gonna create
- 37:14Speaker 3: this whole movie with AI or half the movie with AI.
- 37:17Speaker 3: That's probably the only thing that's gonna get me to
- 37:19Speaker 3: not go see the movie in theaters. I don't picture
- 37:27Speaker 3: it's gonna make a billion. It's not gonna make a billion.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Movies just don't make a billion. Right now. I mean Zootopia, Zootopia,
- 37:38Speaker 3: which is proving the prowess of animation that people still
- 37:42Speaker 3: can't seem to understand whatsoever.
- 37:46Speaker 2: And I think Avatar, Yeah, but Avatar is stupid. Avatar. Well,
- 37:52Speaker 2: I guess Zootopia and Avatar are both films. I I
- 38:03Speaker 2: do not think Mandalorian Grogu will be the Star Wars
- 38:08Speaker 2: movie to bring in a billion. I'll be honest, I
- 38:14Speaker 2: think it might be Starfighter.
- 38:16Speaker 3: I completely agree. I think Sean Levy has the prowess
- 38:22Speaker 3: and the characters and the actors to go this movie's
- 38:27Speaker 3: gonna bring in a billion. That was my guess.
- 38:30Speaker 2: That's not a prediction for me. I'm just saying if,
- 38:33Speaker 2: because the first two movies that are coming into theaters
- 38:36Speaker 2: from Star Wars, since we've had a Star Wars movie
- 38:39Speaker 2: last these are the debuts to back into cinema, right
- 38:45Speaker 2: if either of them had a chance at a billion,
- 38:48Speaker 2: I'm gonna put my money on Starfighter rather than Mandalorian Grogu.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Correct not gonna place bets on that. I'm done placing
- 38:57Speaker 3: pizza bets. Long story, guys, So yeah, I could easily
- 39:11Speaker 3: see maybe six hundred. I don't think it crosses seven fifty.
- 39:19Speaker 2: I was gonna say seven fifty sounds like the sweet spot.
- 39:26Speaker 2: I here's here's the reality of things, guys. And I
- 39:31Speaker 2: know that I'm always the Debbie downer that brings in
- 39:35Speaker 2: reality and I apologize for this, but recently, American economy
- 39:45Speaker 2: very bad. I'll put it in simple terms, American economy
- 39:50Speaker 2: very bad, which means movies may not do very good
- 39:57Speaker 2: because people will choose groceries over entertainment, yep. People will
- 40:06Speaker 2: choose rent over entertainment, YEP. So I can't say like, oh, yeah,
- 40:18Speaker 2: like this is gonna hit it big, and I don't
- 40:23Speaker 2: want to, like, I don't want to sound that down
- 40:27Speaker 2: in the dumps, because Katie, this is.
- 40:29Speaker 5: Gonna be our first movie together reviewing for the show,
- 40:34Speaker 5: and I'm really excited for that, And so I wish
- 40:39Speaker 5: all of the best for these movies.
- 40:40Speaker 2: I genuinely do before the time that we are in
- 40:47Speaker 2: it could be a little scary, which means yes, unfortunately,
- 40:53Speaker 2: and I hate to even bring this up, but like
- 40:56Speaker 2: I would genuinely hope that Eiger and the rest of
- 41:03Speaker 2: the shareholders and suits understand the current situation to be like, hey,
- 41:12Speaker 2: let's maybe not ride everything on the American box office
- 41:19Speaker 2: and see how it does globally.
- 41:24Speaker 3: And I think that's why Levy's movie will do a
- 41:26Speaker 3: little bit better, because we have a chance for things
- 41:29Speaker 3: to kind of level out. But also Levy is known
- 41:32Speaker 3: for his family friendly, fun movies. That's going to be
- 41:38Speaker 3: a movie that people go, I want to take my
- 41:41Speaker 3: kids to that movie. Yeah, that might be Mari's first
- 41:45Speaker 3: Star Wars movie. In theaters.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 41:48Speaker 3: Like, so, yeah, the point of the matter is I
- 41:54Speaker 3: don't see Mando. I see Mando making a little bit
- 41:58Speaker 3: of profit.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Is that good enough for the Disney We don't know.
- 42:06Speaker 2: I think it may be a little too soon. But
- 42:08Speaker 2: have we heard anything about Mando and Grogu's budget?
- 42:15Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Cro Gou I hate this freaking screen rant.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Has point four million.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm saying too.
- 42:39Speaker 3: That's what I've got off of screen Rant, who is
- 42:43Speaker 3: reporting it from Collier.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Let's look at it this way. You break four hundred,
- 42:55Speaker 2: you're golden.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Technically, Yeah, technically yes, because you look at it. Star
- 43:04Speaker 3: Wars Lash that I was the most expensive production. Followed
- 43:09Speaker 3: shortly behind is Solo and Rise of Skywalker. So this
- 43:16Speaker 3: is the best budget a Star Wars film has had
- 43:20Speaker 3: since Revenge of the Sith in two thousand and five
- 43:23Speaker 3: with one hundred and thirteen million dollars.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Like, honestly, I I think that you you
- 43:32Speaker 2: aim for a ceiling of four hundred. Everything else is Gucci,
- 43:38Speaker 2: everything else is bus you know.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you cross, you cross five hundred. We're in the
- 43:43Speaker 3: golden zone. Like we have hit success theoretically, I.
- 43:50Speaker 2: Don't know, well and like, but honestly, if you look
- 43:53Speaker 2: at the like the big hype movies of like let's
- 43:57Speaker 2: say even twenty twenty five, get Fantastic four and uh Superman, right, yeah,
- 44:06Speaker 2: they both. I think Superman did outperform Fantastic four. Fantastic
- 44:12Speaker 2: four did like six hundred and something and I think
- 44:15Speaker 2: Superman did eight hundred six.
- 44:17Speaker 3: Superman did six hundred and sixteen.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Oh did I thought it? I thought it broke seven? Okay, no,
- 44:23Speaker 2: all right, so six sixteen and then Fantastic four. What
- 44:30Speaker 2: a Fantastic four do? I thought they did? They wait
- 44:34Speaker 2: for me?
- 44:34Speaker 3: That is not right, dude, at all? Whatsoever? Worldwide? Fantastic
- 44:41Speaker 3: Four did five hundred and twenty one.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Five twenty one exactly. If you're in that range, both
- 44:47Speaker 2: of those movies were very successful. If you were in
- 44:51Speaker 2: between Fantastic Four and Superman, that is a successful movie. Yeah,
- 44:59Speaker 2: hands down.
- 45:03Speaker 3: So that's all you got to do, exactly. Now, who knows.
- 45:11Speaker 3: With a new CEO coming in for Disney, who knows.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Which actually I think should be announced pretty soon from
- 45:20Speaker 2: one of what they were.
- 45:21Speaker 3: Seeing February, so we'll see.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Very very intriguing. But uh, cany. I think that's it
- 45:33Speaker 2: for the News.
- 45:34Speaker 3: I think that is as well. So shall we dive
- 45:38Speaker 3: into our final book review of the Dark Bande trilogy. Yes, guys,
- 45:44Speaker 3: for those of you who are new to the podcast,
- 45:46Speaker 3: Clay started on this podcast with the Dark band series
- 45:51Speaker 3: and we got so into what we were doing with
- 45:55Speaker 3: all of the Higher Republic stuff that was coming out
- 45:58Speaker 3: right after we did the Darth Banes. U did we
- 46:02Speaker 3: just plumb kind of forgot about Dynasty of People?
- 46:06Speaker 2: Really? The really funny thing about you saying like, oh, yeah,
- 46:10Speaker 2: with all the High Republic stuff, if you had bought
- 46:16Speaker 2: the Essential Legends collection, look what was at the back
- 46:22Speaker 2: of the book. It was literally the Light of the Jedi. Yeah,
- 46:29Speaker 2: this was the start. The Essential Legends was literally the
- 46:34Speaker 2: start of all of that. And I still remember, like
- 46:43Speaker 2: Katie was like, hey, do you, you know, want to
- 46:45Speaker 2: check out these books? You know, have you ever read
- 46:48Speaker 2: them before? I had said no. Since then, I've read
- 46:53Speaker 2: all three of them, I think like six or seven times.
- 46:57Speaker 2: It's a great story. My brother was a huge Darth
- 47:01Speaker 2: Baidin fan.
- 47:02Speaker 3: And actually I think it was the opposite way around
- 47:06Speaker 3: is somebody had told me we needed to do Darth Baine,
- 47:10Speaker 3: and you had read Darth Baine and I had.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Was that the way it was? Yeah? Maybe so, I
- 47:18Speaker 2: because I had I had told you like, oh yeah,
- 47:20Speaker 2: my brother recommended this book to me, and he like,
- 47:25Speaker 2: I love my brother to death, but he just like
- 47:27Speaker 2: had a he has a heart on for Darth Baine,
- 47:31Speaker 2: and like I was like, Okay, I guess I'll read it.
- 47:35Speaker 2: And it was, like I said, the start of the
- 47:38Speaker 2: initiative was with these essential legends, Darth Baine, and I
- 47:43Speaker 2: think it was another trilogy that came around with it.
- 47:47Speaker 2: It wasn't just Darth Babe the Empire, the Empire as well,
- 47:51Speaker 2: that's right. It was Air the Empire and Darth Baine.
- 47:56Speaker 2: And so when I got a hold of it, yeah,
- 48:02Speaker 2: oh that's right. Yeah. I think it was live that
- 48:05Speaker 2: we were we were talking live and somebody's like, oh,
- 48:09Speaker 2: you guys should talk about Darth Baane and I was like,
- 48:12Speaker 2: I mean, if we want to, yeah, we could do that.
- 48:15Speaker 2: And we did both. We actually did them pretty close together.
- 48:19Speaker 2: We did the first book and the Path it was
- 48:24Speaker 2: Path of Destruction and Rules the Rule of Two. Yeah,
- 48:31Speaker 2: we did those, I think like within a month's time.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and then my Republic. Hi.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Republic just like took us into the next five years.
- 48:45Speaker 2: So we are finally here, guys. We are finally here
- 48:47Speaker 2: to talk about the Dynasty of Evil, which I think,
- 48:55Speaker 2: in my mind this is probably blasphemous now that I've
- 48:59Speaker 2: read so many Star Wars books, because I hadn't read
- 49:03Speaker 2: a whole lot until, of course I started this podcast
- 49:07Speaker 2: with Katie. I genuinely think that Dynasty of Evil is
- 49:15Speaker 2: quite possibly in for a safe bumper. I'm gonna say,
- 49:22Speaker 2: top ten perfect endings for a trilogy. Yeah, I'm just
- 49:32Speaker 2: gonna say.
- 49:33Speaker 3: It, because agree.
- 49:36Speaker 2: This does something that I really enjoy as like a
- 49:42Speaker 2: conclusion novel, when whenever you're writing a conclusion to a
- 49:47Speaker 2: story to an epic like these like this trilogy, when
- 49:55Speaker 2: there are elements that are brought back to kind of
- 50:00Speaker 2: remind the reader like, hey, this is where we started.
- 50:04Speaker 2: I love that. I love when they do that, and
- 50:07Speaker 2: they did that with this book, and they brought you
- 50:10Speaker 2: all the way back to Path of Destruction when Baine
- 50:15Speaker 2: wasn't even Baine, when he was still dead, does yep?
- 50:20Speaker 2: And in the military.
- 50:22Speaker 3: Hey, guys, before we get too far into it. Drew
- 50:26Speaker 3: Carption is the author for.
- 50:27Speaker 2: The yes yet and this.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Released December two thousand and nine. So super powerful book,
- 50:38Speaker 3: really good ending to a trilogy. Like Clay has already said,
- 50:44Speaker 3: what did you So at this point, I guess in
- 50:47Speaker 3: this book, Xana is maybe forty years old. Bain is
- 50:54Speaker 3: like eighties, uh is he? Because this so this book
- 51:04Speaker 3: is twenty years It says twenty years the past, So
- 51:07Speaker 3: maybe Xanna is like closer to like thirties because I
- 51:12Speaker 3: was thinking there was ten years, but this it does
- 51:15Speaker 3: say twenty years since Bain has demolished the Order of
- 51:20Speaker 3: the Sith, which would put this twenty years after Path
- 51:24Speaker 3: of Destruction.
- 51:25Speaker 2: See, I think I'm pretty sure. Near the beginning of
- 51:31Speaker 2: the book it says that he's mid forties. He's in
- 51:42Speaker 2: his twenties young, he was that young in the beginning
- 51:45Speaker 2: of the trilogy. Yeah, because the the what happens in
- 51:55Speaker 2: the second book with his body basically getting like, oh
- 52:01Speaker 2: you're copletely destroyed, basically aged him. Yeah.
- 52:07Speaker 3: I think like sixties eight.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Well, in very simple terms, legitimately, think about what happened
- 52:14Speaker 2: to Palpatine when he got struck with the Force lightning. Yeah,
- 52:20Speaker 2: it raged him, and the same thing happened to Bane.
- 52:28Speaker 2: So when he is on this quest to find basically
- 52:34Speaker 2: his youth, which is he learns a UH force technique
- 52:42Speaker 2: ritual of immortality by switching one's essence and soul into another.
- 52:51Speaker 3: Which is basically they took that promise and moved it
- 52:54Speaker 3: to Cannon basically yes, because.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Yes, it's it's uh another reference to another franchise. It's
- 53:03Speaker 2: just you know, finding a hull crux. And I I
- 53:10Speaker 2: love it more so because of the idea of what
- 53:17Speaker 2: happens at the very end of the book with the epilogue.
- 53:20Speaker 2: But we'll get there.
- 53:24Speaker 4: What he.
- 53:27Speaker 3: What's his name? Set? There's nothing else about him like
- 53:32Speaker 3: the rest of the time.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Yeah, no, there's there's nothing. And the thing is because
- 53:39Speaker 2: of our deepest of all dives into High Republic, my goal,
- 53:46Speaker 2: because I love this trilogy so much, was to find
- 53:51Speaker 2: every story that would complete this timeline, because there is
- 53:57Speaker 2: an implication at the very end of this book that
- 54:01Speaker 2: you're like, Okay, the ritual was successful for someone, but
- 54:08Speaker 2: we don't know who it is. And they even say like, hey,
- 54:15Speaker 2: I will reveal the ritual technique and who I am
- 54:24Speaker 2: when you are ready. That's what it says at the
- 54:26Speaker 2: very end of the book. Yeah, So I would like
- 54:33Speaker 2: to do some research and find the books that take
- 54:39Speaker 2: place immediately or a little bit after this, to really
- 54:44Speaker 2: find out and to continue that story, because we know
- 54:53Speaker 2: for a fact, unless Disney and Lucasfilm wants to just
- 54:59Speaker 2: completely turn everything on its head, we know that Palpatine
- 55:04Speaker 2: and Plagis, We're not secretly Darth Baane, right, Like, that's
- 55:10Speaker 2: just that is not canon. That's not something that could
- 55:15Speaker 2: legitimately be because of you know, I think that would
- 55:19Speaker 2: be ridiculous to find out that literally every single dark
- 55:23Speaker 2: Lord of the Sith was literally just Baane jumping from
- 55:26Speaker 2: body to body to body. The guy has to die eventually,
- 55:31Speaker 2: and there's a possibility that he died at the end
- 55:33Speaker 2: of this book, but we don't know, so Carption.
- 55:37Speaker 3: Because I was looking at the Wikipedia for this. Carption
- 55:40Speaker 3: does say he personally clarified with a post on his
- 55:44Speaker 3: website that said Xanna won the battle. Carption said that
- 55:50Speaker 3: he wanted to introduce just a hint of subtlety about
- 55:53Speaker 3: how much of Baine survived, and that he left open
- 55:57Speaker 3: the possibility of revisiting the situation at some point, saying
- 56:01Speaker 3: that what was supposed to be left ambiguous was whether
- 56:05Speaker 3: or not Bane was quote still alive in some way
- 56:09Speaker 3: or quote just a small part of his identity imprinted
- 56:13Speaker 3: on her.
- 56:15Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 56:17Speaker 3: Okay, So to answer your question about books around this guy, so, oh,
- 56:27Speaker 3: this doesn't actually have the full timeline in it. Okay,
- 56:29Speaker 3: hang on, I gotta rep a different.
- 56:30Speaker 2: Book, The Essentials doesn't.
- 56:36Speaker 4: So the.
- 56:40Speaker 3: So I don't have the Essentials copies, They're boxed up somewhere.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Okay.
- 56:45Speaker 3: Yes, so I I had Edge of Victory, which was
- 56:49Speaker 3: not published at the time of this book coming out. Okay, So,
- 56:57Speaker 3: so this one it takes place around one thousand and
- 57:02Speaker 3: thirty two years before Star Wars a New Hope yep,
- 57:06Speaker 3: so before this one would be Knight Errant. And then
- 57:12Speaker 3: you go backwards in time to thirty six three thousand,
- 57:18Speaker 3: six hundred and fifty years before Star Wars a New
- 57:20Speaker 3: Hope and says the Old Republic deceived, Red Harvest, deceived
- 57:25Speaker 3: Red Harvest, the Old Republic Fatal Alliance, the Old Republic annihilation.
- 57:32Speaker 3: And then after Bame, the next book that comes out
- 57:37Speaker 3: is Plagies.
- 57:38Speaker 2: What is it? Yeah? So there's nothing. Oh that's kind
- 57:48Speaker 2: of annoying, unless because I've never I've never read Plagis.
- 57:53Speaker 2: So I'm curious to like, and I'm sure you know
- 58:06Speaker 2: the answer to this. There's no mention of anything before
- 58:10Speaker 2: Plagas in play. Yeah, so I am willing to place
- 58:20Speaker 2: a bet on the fact that there's probably like Legends
- 58:25Speaker 2: comics that deal with some of the stories between Baine
- 58:32Speaker 2: and Plagas.
- 58:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I have the essential Legends timeline that one of
- 58:40Speaker 3: the uten guys did that breaks all of the individual
- 58:43Speaker 3: pieces media out, So I'll have to look in there
- 58:46Speaker 3: and tell you, Okay.
- 58:49Speaker 2: Cool, cool, cool. But yeah, I like, I really dug
- 58:55Speaker 2: this book. I really dug the ending of this book
- 58:59Speaker 2: because of the way, oh my gosh, because of the
- 59:05Speaker 2: way he ended it. But like, also we get to
- 59:11Speaker 2: see a vulnerable yet powerful bane, like a bane that
- 59:16Speaker 2: refuses to die, and a very dark bane because of
- 59:25Speaker 2: course the situation that happens in book two with him
- 59:31Speaker 2: being wounded, you know, about to die, having a healer
- 59:36Speaker 2: fix him up, and then like you then have somebody
- 59:45Speaker 2: else take the blame for the murder of that individual,
- 59:49Speaker 2: which completely just thrusts this story into existence with of
- 59:55Speaker 2: course what's his name's daughter and all of that jazz. Yeah, So,
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: how did you feel about about her story, her revenge story,
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: and all of that.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: I definitely enjoyed getting Sarah introduced back in. I feel
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: like it, Like you said, it really does tie everything
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: together in the end, bringing those connections full force and
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: the realistically like, I don't know how you could have
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: done this any better than Carption already does, because this
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: is a fairly flawless story, Like I can't think of
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: any flaws after my recent reread off the top of
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: my head. The perspectives all work perfectly, like you get
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: enough of Like, honestly, probably Sarah is the villain in
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: the story a court if you put Bayane and Zana
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: as the protagonists even though they're technically sick, and I
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: feel like Sarah gets just enough perspectives in place to
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: really make that work in those perspective changes. What did
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: you think about, because I mean, it's so it's been
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: twenty years since Baine took Zana on as his apprentice,
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: and most of his story in this is realizing Hey,
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: like I'm getting old, I have issues. Zana hasn't taken
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: advantage like she should have by now, so I need
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: to go searching for eternal life and find a new apprentice.
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: How did you feel about that.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: I I dig this because there's even a moment where
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: Zanna of course, takes Set under her wing, Set being
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: the dark Jedi, and she's kind of teaching him the
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: ways of the Seth, but not teaching him because she
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: has been so ingrained in the ways of the rule
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: of two that Bain literally created, well, didn't create, but
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: you know, passed on through his knowledge of revenue and
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: everybody else from the Old Republic. She even gets mad
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: at Set because Set is like, oh, so you you
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: you want to teach me how to be a Seth
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: and we could all be Set together, and she's like, no, blasphemy, like,
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: and she's very quick and like cuts it down, like, no,
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: we're not gonna do that. I'm gonna kill him, and
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: you're gonna be my princess. Oh so you want me
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: to help you kill him. No, we're not gonna do
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: that because that shows my weakness and I'm not weak.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: I'm gonna kill him. He's like, okay, well what if
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: you don't kill him and he kills you? And she's like,
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: well you would either are strong enough to defend yourself,
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: and he's impressed enough to become you know, your new
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Master or you're dead. I like that she has not
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: taken advantage because there's this back and forth throughout the
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: entire book of the mind games that each one is playing,
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: because I think throughout the entire book, Zanna is the
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: first one to contemplate, Oh, is he only doing this
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: to make me attack him earlier than I want to?
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Is he trying to get me? Yeah? I love it.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: I love the the the four d Chest that they
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: are playing, you know, the the sixth the six Games
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: of Sebah that they are trying to figure out before
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: the first hand he has even played. It's so intriguing
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: because even when Darth Baine is almost down and out
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: and super weak, he's like, Okay, I'm finally escaping this compound.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Let me see where my lightsaber is, and he like
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: reaches out in the forest. He's like, Okay, there's a guard.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: There's a guard. There's this person. There's this person Zana.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: What in the world is she doing here? And then
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: like he's like, wait, did she help in this capture
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: or not? Like again, it's it's these little nuances of like,
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: because of the constant training to eventually kill one another,
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: they're always on edge and we know that that is
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: like the inevitable downfall of the Sith itself, but to
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: see it at its peak of anxiety here was very interesting.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Yeah. It it was super interesting to see them go
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: back and forth on what was going to matter to
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: the other at the end and in the grand scheme
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: of things. Xanna really is like the one that Baine
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: was looking for to take over. She took the legacy
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: of the Sith very seriously in developing the Rule of
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: two with Bain and following it to a tea. I
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: really enjoyed that with her character and everything. Sorry, I
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: got distracted on Wikipedia because I tragged back and Deadu's
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: Wikipedia article.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: So it says that he is mentioned in Star Wars
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: The Old Republic Onslaught Oha is a video game Dyna
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Steve Evil. He is mentioned in Plagas. I don't remember
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: him being mentioned in Plagas, and then he's.
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: Mentioned in a Republic comic with Count Dooku and Quinlan Voss,
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: and then he is also mentioned in the Legacy comic Run.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: Which would make sense that he is mentioned in Plagas
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: because we know that well, this is my assumption. I
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: haven't read it yet. Palpatine is introduced in plagas correct. Yes, yeah,
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: and we all know Plagis tried to live forever with clones. Yeah,
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: like he tried to literally put his essence into clones,
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: which is literally the first thought that Baide has.
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: Yep, He's like, oh, I gotta find a cloner. And
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: then he's like, wait a second, I won't have a
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: stable clone, which is what Palpatin runs into.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: Yeah, He's like, I won't have a stable clone, and
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: also that might take forever to develop. I don't have
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: that kind of time, so I have to do it
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: in an already able body. So yeah, like I I
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: I love everything from this book.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: We talked about how sci fi the Edge of Victory
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: one is this one all so Leen's super sci fi
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: with this element, with this essence transfer, So I really
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: dig it.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a lot of fun. I even like
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: the dark Jedi aspect, the fact that Sarah when conducting
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: a little bit of her own investigations and everything, it's
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: talking to this master Jedi and like there's a moment
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: where I think it was the Assassin that told Sarah like, oh,
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: they're full of themselves. They can't even like help. But
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: like answer every question because they feel like they need
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: to teach everybody. And literally everything that she was saying
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: was coming true when Sarah was conducting her like many investigation.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I loved cockness in this. I remember falling in
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: love with her character the first time I read it,
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: and I fell in love with her again reading through
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: it this time. Cognis is the assassin that works with
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: Sarah in the beginning and figures out like, oh, I'm
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: meant to be the darker Prentice moving forward, And I
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: just love her character that she brings up such a
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: new perspective. It is super helpful because now I've read Plagis,
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: I've also read all of the older Public books. I
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: d n f Knight Errants because I just could not
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: get through it. I did not enjoy the older Public
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: books as much as I enjoy the Darth Bane trilogy.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: Like these books really make that old public.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Well.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: I know, I was super are sad about that, but like,
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: I could not deal with it. It was I DNF it,
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: and I swear I'm going to come back to it
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: one day.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: I I think I actually have this one.
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: It came out as an Essential Legends collection.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the version I have of it.
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I was like, because that was back when
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: I was trying to do the Patreon series where I
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: was reviewing, like going through Legends all in a timeline fashion,
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: could not do Knight Errant. It delayed the episode that
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: I was doing by like months because I could not
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: finish it for the So yeah, but this one is
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: definitely I think it's probably the Darth Bayne trilogy, and
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: it's probably Revin or like my favorite Old Republic books
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: because Carption just does an incredible job. Like, and I
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: know people of jokes like, oh, are we going to
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: bring him in to consult on whatever Darth Baine trilogy
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: goes forward and YadA, YadA, YadA, No, but like, seriously,
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: he writes Darth Baine so well.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: Yeah, Like genuinely, if we had Zoon get to come
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: in for everything having to deal with Thron, I think
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: he should be able to come in if anything with
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: Bain is actually entertained in canon. Honestly, I think he
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: does an amazing job.
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: He also wrote the Reven book That's why, Oh well.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: There you go, so like I genuinely think that and
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: God Filoni, please please, for the love of God, please,
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: I do think that, as much as I really hate
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: saying this sentence, I think either adapting or bringing in
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: Bain will satisfy everyone, even those other guys in the fandom.
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: You said bringing in Baine, did you mean bringing in Carption?
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: Yeah, Carption with Baine, That's that's what That's what you meant.
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: I was just clarifying, Yes.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: Yes, if if you bring him alongside any decision to
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: bring about Baine in canon, I think it would legitimately
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: get a green flag everywhere. Yeah, And like I don't know, like,
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: do you now that we have finished the trilogy, do
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: you think this can exist in canon?
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: Yeah, you've already used concepts. It makes perfect sense to
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: bring this in to canon, and especially in the timeline
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: that it would work.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: Yeah, And you know they brought about it again, because,
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: like I said, the best thing about this is that
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: they do touch on literally like key points in both
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: book one and book two. Inside of book three again
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: they brought about or they they mentioned the thought bomb
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: again that started the whole thing, which is almost literally
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: the destruction of the Seth. Like, even doing that, even
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: if you wanted to change it up a bit, I
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: think you could still make this cannon because, like you said,
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: it is far enough away from everything else, Like I
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: would even say, looking at act Lite, yep, looking at
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: I think maybe the one thing that might interfere with
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: things maybe High Republic. Maybe No, I don't think.
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: That's only three fifty years off from the Phantom Menace,
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: so you still have six hundred years of play there, Yeah,
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: to fit this in appropriately. So I really love this
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: trilogy And honestly, I feel like Dynasty of Evil is
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: my favorite of the three. I know that's like weird saying,
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: but it's just such a good book. And Carption manages
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: the characterization of everybody just perfectly, and that's probably I
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: didn't realize this either. He was the lead writer for Kotor.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: That makes a whole lot of sense too.
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and he was a main writer on the older
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: Public video game, which is probably why, and Dedu is
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: in that one as well.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: Yeah. So yeah, somebody, well the thing is my job
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: finally kind of got their act together, and I need
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: to catch up on hours. So I'm going into work
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: in four hours.
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: Oh, go to bed, And.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: I still haven't eaten dinner, so I'm probably not going
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: to go to sleep at all.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: Yeah, make it to work.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: I will make it to work. I will make it
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: to work. But yeah, Like, guys, I I think if
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: you have not had the chance to read this trilogy,
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: and you are a Star Wars fan, for one, how
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: dare you get this far into this podcast and not
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: stop and immediately go and get this trilogy. But guys,
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: if you are a fan of Star Wars, I one
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: hundred agree with the notion that if you were to
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: buy any Legends book, this trilogy should be it. Yeah.
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: And I genuinely thought, because again, I love my brother
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: to death, but he can sometimes be a little bit
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: of an idiot. I genuinely thought he was just being
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: a dude.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: Bro.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: It's like, you got Darth BAINEA and I'm like, whatever, dude,
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: It's it's just a book. This. I like, there's a
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: concept of like just overhype in any fandom. I don't
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: know if this book can be overhyped.
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: It's not. You want to know what is overhyped? The
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: Plaguish novel.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, okay, Darth.
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: Baine novels not overhyped.
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: I think because of how well developed each character gets
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: through each novel of this trilogy makes this book as
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: good as it is there is a genuine start to
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: everyone's story and an end to everybody's story. Yeah, there
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: is no Like, yes, technically with the epilogue there's like
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: this small lingering thing with Zanna and Pain. But like,
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: even so, like even if you were to say, hey,
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: I'm never going to read another Star Wars book after that,
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: there is an ending for every single character, and that
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: is that is a perfect trilogy. I'm sorry, it just
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: is so. Yeah. Again, like, if anything, I think this
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: is a trilogy that I would actually try and find
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: original copies of, like as as a fan, I would
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: see it through hard. Yeah, I'm sure it is. I'm
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: sure it is.
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: Speaking of someone who had to source original copies of
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: some of the early Disney canon books, it was pain
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: in the ass.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: I think my brother owns at least one of them.
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: I don't know if it's Path the Destruction. It might
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: actually be the rule of two that he has because
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: I see the covers and I recognize him, so it
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: might be one of those two. But yeah, guys, I
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: don't think there's any like anything else.
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: Even mine is the Legends banner one.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so I don't think there's really much of anything
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: else Without going like into the nitty gritty deep dive
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: into it.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: Yeah, which this being an old one guys, that's not
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: typically something that we do.
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: But we just don't veer away from spoiling. Yeah, yeah
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: for sure. But yeah, guys, with that, you can find
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: me at fanboy clay on almost anywhere except for Twitter
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: these days, and from the looks of it, it may even
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: be uh TikTok as well. So we'll see how all
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: of that goes around. But like Katie, uh, I will
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: start to be using the Instagram page a little bit more,
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: so you'll start to see content from us a little
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: bit more.
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: I know we keep saying that, guys, but we had
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: the Great ice Storm.
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: Yes, yes, there's there's we we got a foot of
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: snow this week, so it's it's it's a lot twelve.
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: My back porch still has ice on and we're predicted
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: for two inches this weekend. And I live in the South, Okay,
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: so don't say anything about my just compared to Clays.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: Uh No. It was so funny because my mom sent
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: me a photo of her backyard living in San Antonio, Texas,
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: and like you can see, like the puddle that froze
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: over in her back patio and then like some specs
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: of white on the grass. And then I take a
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: picture of just the front of my apartment and it
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: just being piles upon piles of snow, like that was
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: a funny comparison. And then and then she had the
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: audacity of screenshotting how cold it was and it was like,
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: it's twenty four She's like, it's twenty four degrees. It's
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: so cold. I screenshot in mind it was three degrees
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: and it felt like negative eleven.
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: No.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: I was like, I told you. I was like, we
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: can play this game all day. Mom, I don't think
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: you're winning. But yeah, guys, you can check us out
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: there on Instagram and a Blue Sky. I need to
