- 0:00Hebrews chapter 13. It takes us a little while to
- 0:03get through what it is. We need to cover.
- 0:07I really want to preach to the book of Isaiah but that's 66
- 0:11chapters, I'm not sure I'm going to live long enough to do that
- 0:14one. So I'm going to choose smaller
- 0:16books in the meantime. But what we try to do is prepare
- 0:23way in advance. I've made it through out the
- 0:28time here at Christ Community Church, 28 years to be exact,
- 0:31almost 29 that we always prepare in advance.
- 0:35So, my sermons are always written eight months to a year
- 0:39or more. For the time I preach him.
- 0:44In other words, I know that we're doing first Thessalonians.
- 0:47Next, that's already been written and done.
- 0:50I know after that. The next series that will take
- 0:52us into the new year. That's already been written and
- 0:54done. I know that in the fall, we're
- 0:57going to begin our series, after job on the building blocks, for
- 1:01the best marriage and family possible, that will take us
- 1:04through the fall into next year. All the way to next May.
- 1:08Those are done. We do it in advance, I do it
- 1:12Advanced simply because I think it's important, never one to be
- 1:17prepared because I never know what's going to happen during
- 1:20the week, right? So I always try to be prepared
- 1:23get it done, but also I do an advance.
- 1:28So when I preach it you don't think I'm picking on you.
- 1:32Because what I'm preaching on is, what was written eight
- 1:37months to a year earlier. And so, if you come to church on
- 1:43a particular day and I'm preaching on a particular
- 1:45subject or topic reverse, and it kind of hits you between the
- 1:49eyes. Know that that's the sovereignty
- 1:52of God. And you coming on that day, to
- 1:56hear that sermon. Because I think it's important
- 2:00for you to realize that the word of God speaks to us, no matter
- 2:03where we're at, no matter what, we're going through, no matter
- 2:05what we're doing. So we started the book of
- 2:09Hebrews 6 years ago, this week and it was all about the
- 2:12supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ Our Lord we wanted
- 2:18you to see how Supreme and sufficient Christ is so much so
- 2:22that you, you are completely committed to following him no
- 2:26matter what The writer of Hebrews spends all this time.
- 2:34Twelve chapters talking to us about why Christ is sufficient,
- 2:39why Christ is supreme and why you need the, leave the old
- 2:42Covenant, and come to the New Covenant, why you need to
- 2:44embrace him? For who he is, for what he's
- 2:46done? Because everything about Christ
- 2:48centers around, the identity of the Christ and the ministry of
- 2:51the Christ, And then he comes to chapter 13.
- 2:58And now wants to talk to you about your responsibilities to
- 3:01the identity and Ministry of Christ.
- 3:05Paul does the same thing, the book of Romans, he spends 11
- 3:09chapters talking to us about Doctrine helping us understand
- 3:13who Christ is, and what Christ did the identity and Ministry of
- 3:17the Christ. Then from chapter 12 onward, he
- 3:22beseeches them to present their bodies, a Living Sacrifice.
- 3:26Now, here is your responsibility in light of that.
- 3:29He does the same thing in the in the book of Ephesians.
- 3:31The first three chapters are all about Doctrine and and who God
- 3:35is, and what he's done. And then in light of that, the
- 3:38last three chapters talking about our responsibility to
- 3:41follow, what God has done. And so that that permeates the
- 3:48scriptures. That's all throughout the Bible.
- 3:54Once we know who Christ is in the Bible is all about the
- 3:58Christ. We then know what our
- 4:01responsibility is. But you really don't know your
- 4:05responsibility until you understand the identity of the
- 4:07ministry of the Messiah himself. And so the word of the Lord
- 4:14speaks to us in such a way to help us understand.
- 4:18Who he is and what we are to do. now, in light of that, It's
- 4:25important for us to realize that when we speak about our
- 4:28responsibility and we will in Chapter 13 because we're going
- 4:32to tackle 10 Timeless truths out of chapter 13, those ten
- 4:38Timeless truths that we need to tackle are going to hit some of
- 4:44us very hard. And yet, it's imperative that we
- 4:50understand our responsibility in light of the identity and
- 4:55Ministry of the Messiah, who is all-sufficient and all Supreme?
- 5:00This way, the Bible always gives the expectation.
- 5:04Be careful how you here. Take heed to what you hear.
- 5:10Why? Because how you hear is
- 5:13important? How you listens important?
- 5:17In fact, in the Book of Proverbs the 13th chapter, it says in the
- 5:2213th verse these words, the one who despises the word will be in
- 5:28debt to it. But the one who fears the
- 5:32commitment will be rewarded. In other words, when you when
- 5:38you hear the word of God, do you despise?
- 5:41What you hear? Do you look down upon what you
- 5:45hear? Do you or are you disgusted with
- 5:51what you hear? Are you the kind of person that
- 5:57Delights in what you hear? Or do you have disdain for what
- 6:03you hear? Solomon warns.
- 6:08And quite aptly. The one who.
- 6:13Despises the word. We'll be in debt to it.
- 6:17In other words, you will suffer the consequences if you despise
- 6:21the word of God. In other words, if you despise
- 6:24it, you will be destroyed by it. They says, but the one who fears
- 6:30a commandment will be rewarded. So, you have a choice to Revere
- 6:37the word and be rewarded or despise the word and be
- 6:41destroyed. Those are your two choices when
- 6:43you come to church on Sunday? There's no in-between choice.
- 6:48That's your choice. You can Revere it because you
- 6:52fear the word of the Lord, you understand the word of the Lord
- 6:55and therefore you will be rewarded by it or you will
- 6:58despise what you here. You'll be disgusted with what
- 7:01you hear, you will. Turn away from what you hear and
- 7:06your heart be calloused and Harden.
- 7:12How does that manifest itself? Well, that's easily said and are
- 7:19easily understood in the book of second Chronicles chapter 36.
- 7:22Which by the way, is the last chapter of the Hebrew Bible.
- 7:26The last chapter of our Bible is the Book of Malachi.
- 7:29That's the last book, but in the Hebrew Bible, it second
- 7:31chronicles could because the Hebrew Bible ends with the
- 7:34destruction of the temple, on the Temple mount.
- 7:37Second Chronicles chapter 36. And with that comes, The
- 7:44destruction. Of the people.
- 7:49Who despised? What they heard?
- 7:54It says in verse number 15, the Lord, the god of our fathers, or
- 7:57their fathers, sent word to them again, and again, by his
- 8:01Messengers because he had compassion on his people.
- 8:05And on his Dwelling Place, why did God keep sending Messengers?
- 8:09Keep sending prophets? Keep sending those.
- 8:12Who would deliver the word of God to his people because he had
- 8:15compassion on his people. The Lord knew that the only way
- 8:19they can respond. In a way that would honor him
- 8:23was to be submissive to the word of God.
- 8:27He knows that. So you just keep setting
- 8:29messenger after messenger after messenger after messenger for
- 8:3316, but they continually mocked The Messengers of God.
- 8:40Despised his words saying word. Use a proper 13, verse number
- 8:4613. Despised his words and scoffed
- 8:50At His prophets, until the Wrath of the Lord arose against his
- 8:55people, until there was no remedy.
- 9:03That's just heartening. God will send the messenger
- 9:07after messenger after messenger and they would say you know what
- 9:10that doesn't mean anything to me.
- 9:12I don't care what you have to say.
- 9:15Or or in today's vernacular that messenger, doesn't speak to me
- 9:23anymore. I don't understand what they're
- 9:25saying, I don't get it. In the beginning to despise the
- 9:30word of God become disgusted with the word of God.
- 9:34And that's what happened with Israel.
- 9:38And of course, you know that the Babylonian captivity took place
- 9:41over three deportations of the nation of Israel into Babylon.
- 9:47And they were there for 70 years, began a 605 BC.
- 9:52And God had to get us people's attention.
- 9:56Because he just would not listen.
- 10:00So back in the Book of Proverbs the 13th chapter, it says the
- 10:07one who despises the word will be in debt to it.
- 10:11Otherwise you can't afford to be disgusted with What God Says.
- 10:18You can't afford to disregard What God Says.
- 10:24You cannot afford. You cannot afford.
- 10:31To disdain What God Says. If so you'll be in debt to it.
- 10:37You'll suffer the consequences. But the one who fears, the
- 10:43Commandment that was rewarded. You Revere me, you?
- 10:48Revere my name. You'll be rewarded.
- 10:55Verse 14, the law of the wise, which is the word of God is a
- 10:59Fountain of Life. In other words, God's law is
- 11:04like a fountain. It fills you.
- 11:07It's like it's like drinking running water when you're you're
- 11:10dying of thirst. The the law of the wise, at each
- 11:15of the wise, is a Fountain of Life to turn aside from the
- 11:18snares of death. It protects you and watches
- 11:22over. You turns you away from the
- 11:24snares of death. Good understanding produces
- 11:28favor. But the way of the treacherous
- 11:31is hard. The way the treacherous is this
- 11:36callus, it's cold. It's hard.
- 11:43Every prudent or wise man acts with knowledge.
- 11:48But a fool displays folly. Every wise man acts according to
- 11:55the knowledge given to him through the word of God.
- 11:58In other words, he hears the word of God doesn't disregard
- 12:01the word doesn't despise the word, right?
- 12:05Is not disgusted with what he hears.
- 12:07Instead, he Delights and what he hears Because he gives him
- 12:12knowledge about his God and who he is.
- 12:15And what is responsibility is to his God, the fool.
- 12:20Displays folly. That's why earlier Solomon.
- 12:26Say these words, Proverbs 1 verse number 22.
- 12:29How long o naive Ones? Will you love being
- 12:32simple-minded and scoffers Delight themselves and scoffing
- 12:36and fools hate knowledge? Turn to my reproof behold.
- 12:42I will pour out my spirit on you.
- 12:43I will make my words known to you because I called you and you
- 12:48refused. I stretched out my hand, and no
- 12:50one paid attention. And you neglected all my counsel
- 12:54and did not want my reproof. I will also laugh at your
- 12:57Calamity. I will mock when your dread
- 12:59comes. When your dread comes like a
- 13:01storm and your Calamity comes like a whirlwind when distress
- 13:05and anguish come upon you, then they will call upon me, but I
- 13:08will not answer, they will seek me diligently, but they will not
- 13:11find me why? Because he didn't knowledge.
- 13:15They hated the understanding of who I am.
- 13:18They despise me, they were disgusted with me.
- 13:23It did not choose. The fear of the Lord.
- 13:30They would not accept my counsel.
- 13:32They spurned all my reproof. So they should eat of the fruit
- 13:36of their own way and be seated with their own devices, for the
- 13:40waywardness of the naive will kill them and the complacency of
- 13:42fools will destroy them. But he listens to me, shall live
- 13:46securely in BT's from The Dread of evil.
- 13:51He listens to me. He listens to me will be at ease
- 13:56from The Dread of evil, they will live securely, they will be
- 14:00rewarded. That's why it's so important to
- 14:04understand that when you come and you hear the word of God or
- 14:09when you open your Bible and you read the word of God that you
- 14:12understand that God is specifically speaking to you at
- 14:15that time. We like to think that God is
- 14:20speaking to my neighbor at that time, or to my wife or to my
- 14:24children, right order the guy in the other aisle.
- 14:29He couldn't possibly be speaking to me at that time, but he is
- 14:32see. In the moment, you think that
- 14:35he's speaking to somebody else? He's really speaking to you.
- 14:41That's so important. And God wants you to hear his
- 14:45word. And understand his word.
- 14:51Everything is based on who Christ is from, who he is, in
- 14:56terms what we do. So when you come to Hebrews
- 14:59chapter 13, it's all about what we are to do in response to who
- 15:02he is. He is all Supreme, he is all
- 15:06sufficient. He is the king of the earth.
- 15:10He is the Messiah of Israel. And he has fulfilled the law and
- 15:15the prophets. You come to him?
- 15:21By faith, you Embrace him. When you do, this is how you
- 15:27live that out. That's Hebrews chapter 13.
- 15:33Now. To believer the point, a little
- 15:37longer. It's important to understand
- 15:43that this is the way God always does it.
- 15:47It's all throughout the scriptures.
- 15:50So, because we just talked about Mount Sinai.
- 15:53Go back with me to if you were to Exodus chapter 20, for a
- 15:57brief moment. remember Mount Sinai the Earth began to shake
- 16:04The mountain trembled, fire and smoke and God's voice thundered.
- 16:13And that's it. Chapter 20.
- 16:15The people say we don't want God to speak to us any longer Moses,
- 16:19you talk to us don't let God speak to us.
- 16:24Because they were absolutely terrified.
- 16:29Because on that mountain, God, gave the Ten Commandments,
- 16:33right? But I'm sure if you could, if
- 16:38you could quote The Ten Commandments, you could probably
- 16:40quote them, pretty much verbatim, which is probably a
- 16:43good thing. But everything about the Ten
- 16:47Commandments was Central to the teaching in the Messiah.
- 16:53Because everything centers around what, loving God?
- 16:57And loving your fellow, man. First four Commandments deal
- 17:01with God and your relationship to who God is.
- 17:06You shouldn't have any other gods before me.
- 17:09Shouldn't carve-out. Any other Idols?
- 17:11Idolatries wrong on the priority worship?
- 17:15Own only me. Make sure you keep the Sabbath.
- 17:21The first four Commandments deal with our relationship with the
- 17:23Living, God. And what I shared with you on
- 17:28Wednesday nights, very important, God never just puts
- 17:30Pages stuff on a page haphazardly.
- 17:35Everything has specific order to it.
- 17:39Everything has a specific reason for it when it's spoken when it
- 17:43said where it said, how it said, this is the inspired
- 17:48authoritative word of God, that is relevant in everything.
- 17:52It says, so the way God says it is important.
- 17:56First understand. And so when you look at the Ten
- 18:00Commandments, you realize that God gave these commands to his
- 18:03children, Israel, that they would understand who God is,
- 18:05because the Commandments himself embody the personality, the
- 18:09character, the nature of the Living, God, and he wants them
- 18:13to only worship him, only serve him, only honor him and then he
- 18:18gives the Letter, six Commandments.
- 18:23Verse 12, honor your father, and your mother that your days may
- 18:26be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you
- 18:29don't murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not
- 18:31bear false, witness against your neighbor, don't cover your
- 18:34neighbor's house. Yada, yada, yada yada yada Why
- 18:42does God do it that way? If the order is significant, And
- 18:48it's important. What is got do it that way?
- 18:52Why is it if I love God? And I want to serve God and not
- 18:58have got the very first commandment when it comes to my
- 19:00relation. With man is not don't covet or
- 19:03don't murder or don't steal or don't commit adultery.
- 19:10It's not there there, but not first.
- 19:13What's first? Honor your father and your
- 19:19mother. Why?
- 19:24Why does God do that? I'm going to tell you the same
- 19:27thing. I've been telling you for 30
- 19:28years. It's this, if your Christianity
- 19:33doesn't work at home, it doesn't work at all.
- 19:38You're a hypocrite. God knows that.
- 19:42How do we know you love God? How do we know you're not an
- 19:47idolater? How do we know you want to serve
- 19:51the true and living God? How do you know that God is your
- 19:54priority and nothing else is It's evidence to wear.
- 20:00At home. At home.
- 20:04It's not evidence to church. You all look like, Christians,
- 20:08the church. You all talk, like, Christians
- 20:10to church. You can smell like, Christians,
- 20:13the church. but at home, That's where the rubber meets the road.
- 20:19That's where the real you shines, right?
- 20:23The real, you shines at home and the Lord makes it very clear for
- 20:27the very beginning when he gives the Commandments Israel.
- 20:30He says, look everything is about me but the way I know
- 20:34you're really into me. And the way I know you're really
- 20:36committed to me and the way I know you really love me.
- 20:40Is you honour your father? And your mother.
- 20:48Now, this is replete throughout the scriptures.
- 20:53Listen to The Book of Leviticus 19 chapter.
- 20:58God, says to Moses speak to all the congregation of the sons of
- 21:01Israel and say to them, you shall be holy for.
- 21:03I the Lord your God am Holy Book of Leviticus is all about the
- 21:05Holiness of God, right? I want my people to be as holy
- 21:11as I am Holy. I want them to be a stet apart
- 21:14from corruption and set apart from creation, as I am set apart
- 21:18from corruption and creation. Because to be holy is to be set
- 21:23apart. I want my people completely set
- 21:25apart from everybody else. And how do I know you are
- 21:31committed to being as holy as God is Holy how will I ever know
- 21:34that Nick's words? Every one of you shall Revere
- 21:39his mother and his father. Again.
- 21:45Your love for me is demonstrated primarily in your relationship
- 21:50with those closest to you in your home.
- 21:53Exodus chapter 20 Your commitment to Holiness and
- 21:58wanting to be as holy as I am. Holy.
- 22:01Where is that seen the most? When you Revere your mother and
- 22:06your father See, then he goes on and says this.
- 22:11He says, and you shall keep my sabbaths.
- 22:13I am the Lord, your God, do not turn to Idols or make for
- 22:16yourselves. Molten Gods.
- 22:17I am the Lord your God. How can we can put that first?
- 22:21Why do you put it reviewing your mother and father first before
- 22:24those because the way you demonstrate how holy you are, is
- 22:29in the relationship with those closest to you.
- 22:32That's why It's so important. See because people tend to think
- 22:40they're holy. Tend to think they love God.
- 22:45But those closest to them, they treat the worst.
- 22:52And the Lord knows that. So what does he do?
- 22:58He uses the same example with the people that are the most
- 23:04religious people on the planet. When he was here.
- 23:11The Pharisees. The scribes.
- 23:15The religious establishment believed that they were the
- 23:17holiest of the holies, right? They were the most righteous
- 23:21people when they prayed they prayed.
- 23:24So, all could hear when they fasted, they made.
- 23:27Sure, you knew they were fasting when they gave they blew
- 23:31trumpet. So you knew they were giving and
- 23:33everybody to, oh, man, those guys are holy.
- 23:36Look at them. Give look at them.
- 23:37Pray, look at them fast. Everything was external.
- 23:43In the Lord, has the most scathing indictments against
- 23:48religious people. The religious establishment
- 23:52Thursday. So in Mark's gospel.
- 23:58The Pharisees are upset because his disciples don't keep the
- 24:01traditions of man. so, the word addresses that Now, listen
- 24:07carefully. Verse 6 of Mark, 7, Riley did
- 24:11Isaiah prophesy of you Hypocrites, as it is written.
- 24:14This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far
- 24:17from me, but in vain in emptiness in uselessness, do
- 24:20they worship me? Teaching as doctrines the
- 24:23precepts of men? Your worship of me is useless.
- 24:26It's worthless. Why?
- 24:28Because the doctrines of men the way you want it to be, is more
- 24:32important than the way I told you.
- 24:34It should be. That's why your worship is in
- 24:37vain. That is this.
- 24:42Neglecting the Commandment of God.
- 24:44You hold to the truth to the tradition of men.
- 24:47He was also saying to them, you are experts that steadiness
- 24:50aside, the Commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.
- 24:54In other words, you are so good at what you do, you can take the
- 24:57Commandment of God, you can set it aside because you despise it,
- 25:02you disregard it. You don't think it nearly as
- 25:04high as you and your tradition and your opinion is.
- 25:08So you take the law of God, you set it aside.
- 25:12Lift your opinion, your tradition above what the word of
- 25:16God says, and hold it in higher Steam.
- 25:23So what is he saying? From Moses says, what?
- 25:30Honor your father and your mother why these guys are
- 25:38adults? These guys are old.
- 25:42There Pharisees, their scribes there.
- 25:48Sadducees their Levites. These guys are older men.
- 25:55It says, honor your father and your mother, he speaks evil of
- 26:02father. Or mother is to be put to death.
- 26:10Is that just for kids, oh no. He's talking to adults, not
- 26:16talking to kids, he's talking to adults our age.
- 26:23This is this. But you say if a man says his
- 26:27father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is
- 26:31Corbin or devoted to God, you no longer permit him to do anything
- 26:36for his father or his mother. Thus invalidating the word of
- 26:39God by your tradition which you have handed down and you do many
- 26:44things such as that. In other words, you want to say
- 26:48you're religious people, but yet you dishonor your father and
- 26:51mother, let me show you how to do that, you take your money.
- 26:55And you refused to help those who are in.
- 26:57Need your mother, father, who raised you, who changed your
- 27:00diapers, who fed you, who clothes you, who made?
- 27:03Sure, you got your education to care of you.
- 27:05Bought you your first car or your first cheerleader.
- 27:07First horse or first donkey, whatever the case may be, and
- 27:09they got it for you. They did all this for you but
- 27:12now they're older. Now, they're in need now you
- 27:15won't give them any Aid. Why?
- 27:17Because Corbin I've devoted everything I have to God, it's
- 27:22all gods and you think you're so religious and so pure.
- 27:25And and so holy because you've devoted this amount of money to
- 27:29God, you cannot honor, your father and mother any longer.
- 27:35You just invalidated the authority of God's word in your
- 27:38life. You despise it.
- 27:40You disregard it. And you will be in debt to it.
- 27:47God, does this all throughout the scriptures?
- 27:50Why? Because you love me.
- 27:54And you honor me and I'm a priority in your life.
- 27:59Everything I tell you to do, You like yes, Lord.
- 28:03I'll Follow You, Lord. I will do what you say.
- 28:06Lord. I want to serve you Lord.
- 28:11But they would take the law of God.
- 28:12Set aside lifter tradition of men because they wanted to keep
- 28:15their money. They won't get their money from
- 28:18Mom and Dad. They want to do that.
- 28:23And that's, they disrespected. They Dishonored.
- 28:28They did not Revere. Those closest to them.
- 28:33And what did he do? He put it out very clearly.
- 28:37That the way I know you love me is demonstrated.
- 28:44In your family. The way I know you're committed
- 28:48to holiness. Is that it's demonstrated in
- 28:51your family, those closest to you because if your Christianity
- 28:57doesn't work at home, it's simply just doesn't work at all.
- 29:02That simple. because he know you We don't know you.
- 29:08We don't live with you. We don't see.
- 29:11You get upset, throw pots, and pans and yell and scream and
- 29:15kick and do all this thing and get in your car and drive off.
- 29:19We don't see that. That part of you.
- 29:22Which family does? if you want to be as holy as I
- 29:26am, Holy Those closest to you will see it.
- 29:30More than anybody else to see it. because if they don't see
- 29:34it, guess what? You're not nearly as holy as you
- 29:39thought you were. And you don't love me near him
- 29:42as much as you thought you did. So why do I tell you all that?
- 29:50Because it's replete throughout the New Testament over and over
- 29:54again, who I am my identity and my ministry will always
- 29:58determine your responsibility. so, when you hear about, who I
- 30:02am, and what I've done, Don't disregard it, don't despise it.
- 30:06Don't do ride it to the light in it.
- 30:10Embrace it and follow it. Why?
- 30:16Because it manifests itself in those closest to you, So when
- 30:21you come to the book of Hebrews long introduction to Hebrews,
- 30:24chapter 13, verse number 1. He wants you to know.
- 30:30That now this is the out working.
- 30:35Of your belief that God is all sufficient in all Supreme.
- 30:42And what does he say? Hebrews 13 verse number one.
- 30:46Let love of the brethren. Continue.
- 30:54Let love of the brethren. Continue.
- 31:01He doesn't say, start loving the brethren.
- 31:06He says, let love for the brethren.
- 31:09Continue. The only way something can
- 31:13continue, is this already made available to you?
- 31:20Is it not true that Romans? 5:5 says that the love of God
- 31:22has been she'd abroad in our hearts.
- 31:25Doesn't Galatians, 5:2 lasat. The fruit of the spirit is the
- 31:28first thing love. The actual out work in the
- 31:34spirit of God demonstrates his self in love.
- 31:39The very fact that that God is in us, his love is shed abroad.
- 31:47Within us. In fact, over in Hebrews chapter
- 31:506, he already said this, Hebrews 6 verse number 10.
- 31:57He said for God is Not unjust. So, as to forget your work and
- 32:02the love, which you have shown toward his name in having
- 32:05ministered and instill, ministering to the Saints.
- 32:09In other words, you've already shown your love to the Saints.
- 32:14This is what you do. Now, continue your love for the
- 32:19brethren. There are ten truths that must
- 32:24be tackled. That are all timeless.
- 32:29And of great necessity. And the first one, is this
- 32:32respond with love to the needs of others.
- 32:38Respond with love to the needs of others.
- 32:43Paul said that this way, Romans chapter 12.
- 32:50Let love be without hypocrisy. In other words, your love should
- 32:54be undone hypocritical. He says app or what is evil
- 32:59cling to what is good, be devoted to one another in
- 33:01Brotherly Love, be devoted to one another in Brotherly Love.
- 33:04Well how am I going to do that? Tells you giving preference to
- 33:08one another in honor How do I know I'm devoted to you?
- 33:14And brother in love, I'm going to give preference to you in
- 33:16honor. Other words, I'm going to give
- 33:18preference to you over, who me? How does Brotherly Love
- 33:25continue? It continues because I prefer
- 33:27you over me. Why does the church have such a
- 33:30hard time? Loving one another because I
- 33:32prefer me over you. It's just that simple.
- 33:36I always prefer me over you. But brother lives.
- 33:40Can we continue if I prefer you over me I got to be devoted to
- 33:43one another in brotherly. Love how he tells you give
- 33:47preference to one another and honor not lagging behind and
- 33:50diligence. In other words, don't lag behind
- 33:52in this. You got to be very diligent do
- 33:55this because you don't want to do this.
- 33:58You got to be very energetic and doing this because you don't
- 34:01tend to want to do it by Nature, simply because you love yourself
- 34:05so much, but you got to prefer them other than yourself, and
- 34:09you got to be diligent in doing it.
- 34:10And they says, this fervent in spirit serving the lord, don't
- 34:16lag behind it delicious, but be fervent in spirit zealous of
- 34:20spirit. Why, because who you serve him?
- 34:23You serving the lord. None primarily serving them.
- 34:29You're serving the lord. Going to put God on display, you
- 34:33want to honor the Lord? That's what you want to do. and
- 34:36so let Brotherly Love continue be devoted to one, another give
- 34:42preference to one another Self-love is always the
- 34:48deterrent. To brotherly.
- 34:51Love. Self loves comes because of my
- 34:55pride in my arrogance. I love me more than you.
- 35:01And yet in the church, the body. Weirder give preference to to
- 35:06others. Peter says that this way First
- 35:09Peter chapter Chapter one. He says verse 22 since you have
- 35:18in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a
- 35:21sincere or a genuine love for the Brethren.
- 35:24Fervently one, another love one another from the heart.
- 35:30You have this love for the brethren.
- 35:35Do it from the heart. In fact, he later says in
- 35:39chapter 4 verse number 7 of Rhythm rate, above all keep
- 35:42fervent in your love for one another because love covers a
- 35:46multitude of sins. Be so committed.
- 35:51So firm, it's weird that when you when you when you go to work
- 35:54out, you stretch your muscles and your you want to do as much
- 35:56as you possibly can. Extend them as far as you can
- 35:59for as long as you can. As hard as you can.
- 36:03That's what you do for the brother or sister in the body.
- 36:07You are. Fervent your love for them.
- 36:10Why? Because love covers a multitude
- 36:13of sins. It is the glory of a man to
- 36:15overlook a transgression. Right?
- 36:19What his men at his best. When he refuses to bring up a
- 36:23transgression. Just let it go, it's okay.
- 36:29Promise today, we wear our feelings in our sleeves.
- 36:33And he's had some assistant, they gets it for like get still
- 36:35distraught. Become bitter.
- 36:39Hold a grudge. But we're not fervent our love
- 36:43for one another. This is what?
- 36:48Is evidenced. In the body of Christ.
- 36:54Once you understand the identity and Ministry of the Messiah,
- 36:57this is your responsibility to man.
- 37:03That brotherly love. Continue.
- 37:11You know, the Bible. Is so clear. when the Rich,
- 37:24Young Ruler came to the Lord. He said, good teacher.
- 37:29What shall I do to inherit eternal life?
- 37:33And Jesus said, why do you call me good?
- 37:36No one is good. Except God.
- 37:39So you must recognize that I'm God if you're calling me good
- 37:41because only God is good. He says, you know, the
- 37:46Commandments, do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not
- 37:48steal, do not bear false, witness, don't defraud honor,
- 37:51your father and mother, he gives the latter half of the
- 37:53decalogue, right? He said, um, teacher, I have
- 37:58kept all these things from my youth up.
- 38:01I've done that. I've honored my mother and
- 38:04father, I'm a committed adultery.
- 38:06I don't like I haven't stolen anything.
- 38:09I don't covet my neighbor's wife.
- 38:10Don't covet my neighbor's horse. Is donkey his belongings.
- 38:13Anything And Lord felt love for him.
- 38:18She's one thing, you lack go and sell all your possessions and
- 38:21give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven and come
- 38:24and follow me. But these words he was saddened
- 38:28and he went away grieving for he was one who owed much property.
- 38:33He thought he could keep the Commandments.
- 38:38When it came to dealing with. His fellow man. but then when
- 38:43God questioned his commitment to him, What he realizes that he
- 38:50was an idolater. There was something more
- 38:52important to him than God. It was, his money couldn't sell,
- 38:57it couldn't get rid of it. Couldn't come follow Christ,
- 39:01because that was his God. Because that was his God.
- 39:05Loving God can only be seen in your love for man.
- 39:09So he lied about loving man because you didn't love God.
- 39:14And later on, in Mark's gospel. Our story in Luke's gospel.
- 39:21A lawyer stood up and put it to the test saying, teacher, what
- 39:24shall I do to inherit eternal life.
- 39:26He said to him what is written in the law?
- 39:28How do you read it? And he answered, you shall love
- 39:30the Lord, your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with
- 39:32all your strength, with all your mind, and your neighbor as
- 39:35yourself. He said to him, you have
- 39:37answered correctly, do this. You will live in other words, he
- 39:40summed up the law of the prophets.
- 39:41He summed up the decalogue. You should love God with all
- 39:44your heart, all your soul, all your mind, all your strength.
- 39:46All you have, you're going to love God, and then you going to
- 39:48let your fellow man so much. You won't commit adultery, you
- 39:50won't steal. I won't lie, you won't covet
- 39:53your honor your father and mother.
- 39:54You do all those things. Chris has yet to correctly.
- 39:58But wishing to justify himself. He said that Jesus, who is my
- 40:02neighbor? Just for clarification purposes.
- 40:07Who, who is my neighbor? Because if my neighbor is my
- 40:14best friend, I'm good, I can do that.
- 40:18If my, if my neighbor is, is the guy I work with, I'm good with
- 40:22that. So just clarify for me, Jesus,
- 40:26who is my neighbor in? Jesus gives them a parable, you
- 40:31know, the parable pair with a good samaritan. and the priest
- 40:35walked by the levite went by That's a man have been beaten
- 40:39but even bloody and bruised on his way from Jericho or
- 40:43Jerusalem to Jericho. But a Samaritan who despised one
- 40:48saw his need bound. His wounds took him to an inn
- 40:52paid for his room in the end right.
- 40:57In Christ asked this question, which of these three.
- 41:02Do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell
- 41:06into the robbers hands? He said, The one who showed
- 41:12Mercy to him. He couldn't even say the
- 41:18Samaritan. Just the one who showed Mercy to
- 41:21him. Then Jesus said to him, go and
- 41:25do the same. Who is my neighbor answer?
- 41:32Anyone who has a need is your neighbor.
- 41:38That's your neighbor. That's the one you love.
- 41:42That's the one you help. So, when the writer of Hebrews
- 41:46says, let love for the Brethren continue to not neglect to show
- 41:50Hospitality to strangers. Neighbors that might not be from
- 41:56across the street or somebody you work with the go to church
- 42:00with. But a stranger for by this, some
- 42:05have entertained angels without knowing.
- 42:07Remember the prisoners as though in prison with them and those
- 42:12who are ill treated, since you yourselves also are in The body.
- 42:20Respond. In love, or with love to those
- 42:25who are in need. That's truth.
- 42:30Number one. Now, let me just add this to
- 42:36you. So, you understand this?
- 42:40Because this is very important. We misunderstand what loving my
- 42:46brother really looks like? But there's a verse in the Old
- 42:50Testament that makes it very clear to us.
- 42:55It's found in that same chapter of The Book of Leviticus 19th
- 42:58Chapter. And says in verse number 17
- 43:03because I know that none of you in a room will say I hate my
- 43:08brother. Let's see if you do or you
- 43:12don't. You shall not hate your fellow
- 43:17countrymen in your heart. You must surely.
- 43:26Rebuke him. But shall not incur sin.
- 43:34Because of him. Do you love your brother enough
- 43:41to rebuke him to reprove him? Because you see, if you don't
- 43:47love him enough to reprove him, you really don't love him.
- 43:50You hate him. If he's in the wrong or she's in
- 43:55the wrong, you need to go to that and reprove them.
- 43:59And tell them this is wrong. You can't go down this path.
- 44:04This is not how Christians operate, this is not what we do.
- 44:11But instead, what are we doing? Well, tell somebody else about
- 44:14my friends problem. But won't go to my friend.
- 44:20The one I say I love but in reality I really do hate because
- 44:22that's what God says. You can say you love somebody
- 44:25but what you say, Doesn't Matter What God Says, doesn't matter,
- 44:28right? Well, thank you and at 18 men of
- 44:32Helen What God Says, matters. What you think doesn't matter?
- 44:37You approve your brother. Or what happens?
- 44:43You participate in their sin. Now.
- 44:53Now, what do you do? See if you love your brother.
- 44:59You will rebuke your brother. When they're in sin.
- 45:04When they done that, which is wrong.
- 45:06Because you love himself. And you want to know, walk with
- 45:11the Lord, yet their spiritual. Welfare is more important to you
- 45:13than anything else. That's why truth above
- 45:18relationship matters. Because if your relationship
- 45:23with this person is so valuable. That you'll compromise the
- 45:27truth. Even curd their sin.
- 45:32But not rebuking them when they've sent.
- 45:37Let Brotherly Love continue. How about you?
- 45:42Would that be said of you would be said of me US individually as
- 45:46well as corporately, would that be us?
- 45:50If Christ is all sufficient in all Supreme, he rules and Reigns
- 45:53above all, he's everything. He says he is and he is The
- 45:58identity and Ministry, the Messiah, dictates the
- 46:02responsibility of the people who fall that Messiah.
- 46:07Therefore we let Brotherly Love continue.
- 46:12That's pretty good. Father, we thank you, Lord, for
- 46:16today, in the opportunity to give us study the word.
- 46:19Thank you, Lord. Jesus that your words.
- 46:21Very clear. May we as your children follow
- 46:28specifically, What you have said.
- 46:32And may we lured live for the glory of your name?
- 46:37They not ourselves. but your name, In Jesus name we pray.
- 46:44Amen.
