- 0:33Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us here on a Thursday edition when
- 0:37Speaker 1: we're gonna hear a little bit more from both coaches
- 0:42Speaker 1: from the National Championship game on Monday. We've got a
- 0:45Speaker 1: high school report in the second hour, our Clarke Eisenhower
- 0:48Speaker 1: Outdoor Edition. We have some very unsavory animals to talk
- 0:53Speaker 1: about today, and we're going to talk a little bit
- 0:55Speaker 1: about water quality in the state along the coast on
- 1:00Speaker 1: the outdoor Report. This portion of the show brought to
- 1:03Speaker 1: you by Central Texas Sports Medicine. Twenty men have been
- 1:08Speaker 1: charged in a point shaving scheme involving thirty nine college
- 1:12Speaker 1: basketball players on seventeen D one teams. Fifteen to the
- 1:18Speaker 1: defendants played college basketball in twenty three, twenty four, or
- 1:21Speaker 1: twenty four to twenty five, according to the indictment. The
- 1:27Speaker 1: teams range from Abilene Christian to Tulane and schools in between.
- 1:34Speaker 1: We should not be surprised by this. Sports betting is
- 1:38Speaker 1: a huge issue. The nc DOUBLEA has asked a federal
- 1:43Speaker 1: regulatory body to stop prediction markets from offering trades on
- 1:48Speaker 1: college sports until more safeguards are in place, and a
- 1:52Speaker 1: letter addressed to the chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission,
- 1:56Speaker 1: the federal agency that regulates prediction markets in CLEA President
- 2:00Speaker 1: Charlie Baker said the growth of prediction markets poses a
- 2:04Speaker 1: threat to the well being of student athletes. Of course,
- 2:07Speaker 1: they didn't stop him from advocating betting until the outcry
- 2:11Speaker 1: was so great, I implore you, Baker wrote, to suspend
- 2:15Speaker 1: collegiate sports prediction markets until a more robust system with
- 2:20Speaker 1: appropriate safeguards is in place. The Federal Trade Commission is
- 2:26Speaker 1: asking twenty universities with D one sports programs whether agents
- 2:31Speaker 1: working with their athletes are following a federal law tied
- 2:36Speaker 1: to conduct. The FDC's inquiry began with sending letters to
- 2:40Speaker 1: schools seeking responses tied to compliance with the Sports Agent
- 2:46Speaker 1: Responsibility Trust Act. You want the federal government involved in
- 2:51Speaker 1: college athletics, and here we are talking about the Sports
- 2:55Speaker 1: Agent Responsibility and Trust Act from the Federal Trade Commission.
- 3:02Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 3:04Speaker 1: You do not want the federal government dealing with college sports.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Let's see, Reuben Fothery has announced that he is going
- 3:18Speaker 1: declaring for the NFL draft. Fathery took to the social
- 3:25Speaker 1: media thanking fans, coaches, everybody for his journey basketball. Let's
- 3:36Speaker 1: talk a little basketball. Number one Arizona at home to
- 3:42Speaker 1: come from behind to be Arizona State. Last night, Michigan
- 3:47Speaker 1: took down Washington late in case you missed that, Duke
- 3:52Speaker 1: took out Cow last night on the left coast by
- 3:57Speaker 1: You had to come from behind to be TCU last night,
- 4:02Speaker 1: In case you missed it. Number fourteen Carolina upset by
- 4:08Speaker 1: Stanford on the left coast ninety five to ninety. Elsewhere
- 4:16Speaker 1: in the SEC, Texas handed Vanderbilt its first loss of
- 4:24Speaker 1: the season eighty to sixty four.
- 4:27Speaker 3: In Austin.
- 4:28Speaker 1: The Longhorns and Aggie's will play Saturday afternoon at the
- 4:33Speaker 1: Moody Center. Ole Miss took down Georgia with a last
- 4:40Speaker 1: second put back in overtime. Arkansas ran away from South
- 4:46Speaker 1: Carolina one oh eight to seventy four. Also, Kentucky, with
- 4:55Speaker 1: a Christian Leaightner play, took out La SU at the
- 5:01Speaker 1: Buzzer last night. LSU is now zero to four. Normally,
- 5:08Speaker 1: the athletic director gives the coach a vote of confidence
- 5:13Speaker 1: four games into conference play, LSU athletic director Verge Ausbury says,
- 5:21Speaker 1: if he doesn't make it to the tournament, we'll have
- 5:24Speaker 1: to re evaluate talking about Matt McMahon at LSU right now.
- 5:31Speaker 1: In the SEC, five teams are three to one, including
- 5:36Speaker 1: your Aggies with Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Florida, and Missouri. Seven teams
- 5:45Speaker 1: are two and two Georgia, Mississippi State, Alabama, Kentucky, Ole, Miss, Tennessee, Texas.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Three tames are one in three Auburn, Oklahoma, South Carolina.
- 6:07Speaker 1: One team is oh to four the aforementioned Bengal Tigers
- 6:14Speaker 1: of LSU. And I'm throwing this out there because when
- 6:19Speaker 1: it happens you're gonna want to be there. Tickets are
- 6:23Speaker 1: on sale for the World Baseball Classic at the Juice
- 6:29Speaker 1: Box in Houston March sixth through eleventh. Quarterfinal games March
- 6:35Speaker 1: thirteenth and fourteenth. Great Britain, Italy, Mexico, the US and
- 6:44Speaker 1: Brazil are in Pool B. You remember when the World
- 6:49Speaker 1: Baseball Classic happened a couple of years ago. Remember that
- 6:53Speaker 1: pretty good? I mean, these players love this stuff, fans
- 6:58Speaker 1: love this stuff, and you can go to Houston and
- 7:02Speaker 1: watch it now. I don't know if you want to
- 7:04Speaker 1: go and watch Great Britain play Italy, but I promise
- 7:10Speaker 1: you you'd want to see a match between the US and Mexico.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I promise you that.
- 7:17Speaker 1: And then there's a high school basketball player in Arizona.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Adrian Stubbs, guard at Phoenix Maryvale High School, became the
- 7:31Speaker 1: first player in Arizona high school history to score one
- 7:37Speaker 1: hundred points. He had seventy in the first half and
- 7:44Speaker 1: thirty in the third quarter. He did him play the
- 7:47Speaker 1: fourth quarter, shattered the six A record, which had been
- 7:52Speaker 1: fifty seven points, shattered the state record, which had stood
- 7:57Speaker 1: since nineteen sixty six, which had been seventy five points.
- 8:05Speaker 1: His previous career high was fifty six. Did I tell
- 8:10Speaker 1: you he scored one hundred?
- 8:12Speaker 3: Last night?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Maryvale beat Yuma one toh nine to twenty five. In
- 8:18Speaker 1: other words, he scored one hundred of his team's one
- 8:21Speaker 1: hundred and nine points and didn't play in the fourth quarter.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Head coach Jeremy Smith told the Arizona Republic, this kid
- 8:29Speaker 1: doesn't cease to amaze me. His will to win and
- 8:32Speaker 1: fight and grint are second to none. He's got a
- 8:35Speaker 1: lot of people backing him, wanting the best for him.
- 8:38Speaker 3: He's a gamer.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Before the season started, we had team goals and we
- 8:44Speaker 1: have individual goals. One of his individual goals was to
- 8:49Speaker 1: beat the record of fifty seven points. He beat it
- 8:54Speaker 1: by forty three points last night.
- 9:00Speaker 4: We know.
- 9:01Speaker 1: High schools only play eight minute quarters. Now, I don't
- 9:05Speaker 1: know if that's true in Arizona.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I'm assuming it is.
- 9:09Speaker 1: So in twenty four minutes of basketball, he scored a hunter,
- 9:17Speaker 1: just saying all right, we'll take a break. We're going
- 9:20Speaker 1: to hear from Mario Crystobaal when we come back after this.
- 9:24Speaker 5: For n Co.
- 9:24Speaker 6: Insurance, Enco Insurance is now a part of Hub International,
- 9:29Speaker 6: bringing you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise.

- 9:44Speaker 6: personalized service you expect now with the strength of Hub
- 9:47Speaker 6: International behind us, more resources, more solutions, Still your team
- 9:51Speaker 6: and co insurance a Hub International company, so you're ready
- 9:55Speaker 6: for tomorrow.
- 9:56Speaker 7: It's Techags Live, brought to you by David garter S Jewelers.
- 9:59Speaker 8: OutKick on the Bumpy skatering Bartidiy Holloway.
- 10:01Speaker 9: It feels as though college head coaches are under the
- 10:05Speaker 9: gun so much about winning right now that they don't
- 10:07Speaker 9: want to take the time to develop a quarterback. What's
- 10:10Speaker 9: the the conversation been around Sam Levitt for the last
- 10:13Speaker 9: two days. It was Lsu, it was Tennessee. It was
- 10:16Speaker 9: Kiffin flying into Knoxville to meet with Sam Levitt before
- 10:19Speaker 9: he got on a plane to Miami. At the same time, brother,
- 10:24Speaker 9: Tennessee's got two five star quarterbacks out of the high
- 10:27Speaker 9: school rank sitting on the bench. So it's like, wait
- 10:29Speaker 9: a minute, you're telling me you can't develop these guys
- 10:33Speaker 9: and go win potentially with five stars on the bench
- 10:36Speaker 9: that you're paying, you know, a combined four mil. We
- 10:39Speaker 9: have grown accustom now to this portal thing man and
- 10:43Speaker 9: the quick fix, and I think that is going to
- 10:47Speaker 9: be a very big problem in the years to come
- 10:50Speaker 9: because you have so many coaches relying on this.
- 10:52Speaker 5: I'm not saying it's wrong.
- 10:53Speaker 7: Techas live weekdays from eight to eleven on the Zone, real.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And painted flight. It's making the boys. On a Thursday
- 11:23Speaker 1: tomorrow Ryan will be here. I will be visiting with
- 11:28Speaker 1: Kirk Bowles tomorrow. Kirk will be on South Beach, that
- 11:32Speaker 1: scoundrel getting ready for the National Championship game on Monday.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I gave him a couple of places to eat on
- 11:39Speaker 3: South Beach.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Said if he didn't make it, it's his fault. Next Monday,
- 11:47Speaker 1: Writers Roundtable. On Tuesday, Monty Burt joins me.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Author.
- 11:53Speaker 1: His new book is called Men of Troy Legendary Afternoons,
- 11:57Speaker 1: Wild Nights and the Enduring Legacy of Peace. Carrol's usc
- 12:01Speaker 1: Trojans Money Burke joins me next Tuesday on the program
- 12:09Speaker 1: all right, Monday Night? Is it still seven and a half?
- 12:12Speaker 3: I hadn't checked the spread lately.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Caleb still looking at seven and a half in the
- 12:16Speaker 1: championship game Indiana Miami. We'll have that game Monday night.
- 12:24Speaker 1: By the way, eight and a half's gone up a point. Okay, Yeah,
- 12:32Speaker 1: I'm just so anxious to see how the fans are
- 12:36Speaker 1: going to be configured in that stadium. What what the
- 12:39Speaker 1: percentage of fans is going to be. It's just gonna
- 12:44Speaker 1: be very interesting.
- 12:47Speaker 3: I mean, I think it will be close to fifty
- 12:50Speaker 3: to fifty.
- 12:52Speaker 1: But I read this story yesterday. People look at secondary
- 12:55Speaker 1: market steak Indiana. It's gonna may have sixty to sixty
- 12:58Speaker 1: five percent of that stadium a home game for Miami,
- 13:04Speaker 1: which would be remarkable in its own self.
- 13:06Speaker 10: Right.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Okay, let's hear from Mario Christobal, Miami football coach.
- 13:12Speaker 6: Coach Sin Natty has talked a lot about the influence
- 13:14Speaker 6: his father has had on him from.
- 13:16Speaker 11: A football perspective.
- 13:17Speaker 12: I'm curious about the influence your father had on you,
- 13:20Speaker 12: not from a football perspective, but just from a life perspective.
- 13:25Speaker 10: Yeah, well, mom and dad, that's pretty well. You know,
- 13:28Speaker 10: they worked two jobs. When the night school learned a language.
- 13:32Speaker 10: They came from Cuba. Couldn't ask for anything better in
- 13:36Speaker 10: terms of parents. They were hard nosed, they were tough.
- 13:39Speaker 10: They made sure we understand, we understood the meaning of
- 13:42Speaker 10: true work and to make absolutely zero excuses. They were
- 13:47Speaker 10: absolutely relentless in their pursuit of just doing everything they
- 13:50Speaker 10: could to provide for us. I just couldn't ask for
- 13:56Speaker 10: better parents. And then they handed us over to Dennis Level,
- 14:00Speaker 10: coach at Columbus, and Fred Foyer, who was the offensive
- 14:02Speaker 10: line coach at Columbus, and they they were the ones
- 14:05Speaker 10: that helped to raise us and groom us into you know,
- 14:08Speaker 10: the people what we are today. Forever grateful for them.
- 14:12Speaker 10: I thought they were the best coaches and mentors ever.
- 14:14Speaker 10: It's why I coached today because of my high school coaches.
- 14:16Speaker 10: Coach leavell Is Uh, He's everything to me. But my dad,
- 14:22Speaker 10: Lewis Senior, hard knows, tough ass, son of a gun.
- 14:26Speaker 10: That's what I know. And I'm forever grateful for him
- 14:29Speaker 10: being hard on us and never never gifted us anything,
- 14:34Speaker 10: made us work for everything. Thank Thank God for that.
- 14:38Speaker 10: Thank you.
- 14:40Speaker 11: Next we'll go to Jim Coyle. Jim, go ahead, and
- 14:42Speaker 11: I'm your line and state affiliation.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Please hi.
- 14:48Speaker 10: Jim Coyle.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Then he had a sports beat radio in Bloomington. Coach
- 14:52Speaker 1: Earlier you talked about having played.
- 14:54Speaker 13: With uh with Fernando's dad, How I'm gonna talk about
- 14:59Speaker 13: the irony of having his son not only when the Heisman,
- 15:04Speaker 13: but be the quarterback that you're going to face international championship,
- 15:08Speaker 13: having not only him and Alberto being from a Miami
- 15:12Speaker 13: and the same high school that you and his father
- 15:14Speaker 13: played at.
- 15:17Speaker 10: And the question is, I'm sorry, the irony of playing
- 15:20Speaker 10: against Fernando, the son.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Of a guy you played high school Paul with, who.
- 15:25Speaker 10: Was Yeah, football is awesome, you know, it's almost that
- 15:30Speaker 10: part of it coming full circle watching his sons are
- 15:33Speaker 10: great football players. Obviously, the Heisman was earned and well deserved.
- 15:39Speaker 10: The type of season that Fernando has had, really they
- 15:44Speaker 10: they dominated just about every game and anytime a game
- 15:47Speaker 10: was close, he was a big reason why the outcome
- 15:51Speaker 10: is or was what it was because there's his level
- 15:54Speaker 10: of play, and you know, his younger brother is gonna
- 15:58Speaker 10: be as good or even better, you know. And I
- 16:00Speaker 10: think if you talk to the people over there at
- 16:03Speaker 10: their university and at Columbus High School, they'll tell you
- 16:05Speaker 10: that just really tough, smart, hard working, awesome young men
- 16:11Speaker 10: that represent their families and their university really well, it
- 16:17Speaker 10: was go ahead.
- 16:18Speaker 13: Hey, yeah, I'm just talking about the houringy as well
- 16:21Speaker 13: as having to play against him, right, yes, sir, great.
- 16:28Speaker 11: Next we'll go to the line of Ed Graney and
- 16:31Speaker 11: Ed go ahead, yeah, coach.
- 16:36Speaker 12: I'm sorry to stand this theme, but if there wasn't
- 16:39Speaker 12: such close ties and you didn't know him as well
- 16:42Speaker 12: as you do, if you just flipped on the film
- 16:45Speaker 12: for the first time, what would you think about Fernando? Like,
- 16:47Speaker 12: why is he special as a player?
- 16:50Speaker 10: I think he combines everything that you would want in
- 16:53Speaker 10: an elite quarterback. He is. He's ahead of the defense
- 16:58Speaker 10: all the time. He's two steps ahead. He understands the
- 17:01Speaker 10: back end the front. He's extremely accurate, poised. He can
- 17:07Speaker 10: make you pay with his feet. He can make you
- 17:09Speaker 10: pay with his arm. He can he understands protections really well.
- 17:13Speaker 10: He anticipates like no other. He really has distinguished himself
- 17:18Speaker 10: as the best football player in the country this year,
- 17:21Speaker 10: and it's not by accident. A lot of reps, a
- 17:25Speaker 10: lot of hard work, a guy that has been a
- 17:27Speaker 10: complete difference maker for their program. Thank you.
- 17:32Speaker 11: Next, we'll go to Andre Adilson.
- 17:33Speaker 14: Andre Mario was hoping to ask you a boer picture
- 17:40Speaker 14: question about the ACC because there are a lot of
- 17:43Speaker 14: people throwing dirt on the conference earlier when they thought
- 17:47Speaker 14: there was the potential to not get a team in.
- 17:49Speaker 14: And with the postseason performance and your performance, I'm wondering
- 17:53Speaker 14: if you think this might start changing narratives or perceptions
- 17:57Speaker 14: about the ACC as a whole.
- 17:59Speaker 10: Okay, yes, thank you. I believe the ACC is like
- 18:03Speaker 10: nine to four in postseason play this year, and I
- 18:06Speaker 10: think a lot of the reasons why we have progresses
- 18:09Speaker 10: some of the teams that we have faced throughout the
- 18:10Speaker 10: course of the season in our conference. The level of
- 18:14Speaker 10: play from a quarterback standpoint, line of scrimmage standpoint, I
- 18:18Speaker 10: think has proven itself in the postseason, and for us,
- 18:21Speaker 10: it proved itself against us and made us a better team,
- 18:25Speaker 10: you know, in terms of making adjustments, increasing our level
- 18:28Speaker 10: of physicality. And it's been a really really good year
- 18:32Speaker 10: for the conference. And if you look at the coaches
- 18:35Speaker 10: that have been hired, the way the rosters are shaping up,
- 18:39Speaker 10: both from a transfer portal standpoint and a high school
- 18:41Speaker 10: recruiting standpoint, the conference is only going to get better
- 18:45Speaker 10: and better. And we're certainly, you know, appreciative of some
- 18:49Speaker 10: of the just all the support that we have gotten
- 18:51Speaker 10: from the a SEC and looking forward to more great
- 18:54Speaker 10: years to come.
- 19:00Speaker 11: As a question from the zoom room will come from
- 19:01Speaker 11: Bill Bender. Bill, go ahead, Hey.
- 19:07Speaker 8: Coach, thanks for doing this, sir. You know, in this
- 19:10Speaker 8: new college football world, how valuable is the experience you
- 19:14Speaker 8: have on this roster with fourteen or you know, fifteen
- 19:17Speaker 8: year starters have four years or more? And then do
- 19:20Speaker 8: you see this as like the right blend of portal
- 19:23Speaker 8: and recruits, particularly in state recruits.
- 19:27Speaker 10: Yes, circle appreciate the question, and it's it's, uh, you know,
- 19:31Speaker 10: I know we talked about irony earlier. Ironically, we're playing
- 19:34Speaker 10: against a team that is very much a veteran group, right.
- 19:37Speaker 10: You're looking at you know, a lot of similarities in
- 19:42Speaker 10: the sense of, you know, players that have experience. It's
- 19:45Speaker 10: you know, experiences are replaceable. And for us, I think
- 19:50Speaker 10: it's been a great blend because the portal pickups combined
- 19:53Speaker 10: with the players that have been here for three and
- 19:55Speaker 10: four years. Again, it comes down to the fact that
- 19:58Speaker 10: they're like minded individual and the young talent that we recruited.
- 20:03Speaker 10: They are from a DNA standpoint, they're hard working guys
- 20:06Speaker 10: that they're high achievers. So, and the way that we
- 20:09Speaker 10: work here, the blueprint here, the regiment here, it's it's
- 20:12Speaker 10: very demanding and if that's not your thing, it's not
- 20:15Speaker 10: going to work, you know. And so the fact that
- 20:19Speaker 10: we had all these like minded individuals from all over
- 20:21Speaker 10: the place, I mean, we're as national as Miami has
- 20:24Speaker 10: ever been from a roster standpoint, all positions. But again,
- 20:29Speaker 10: it doesn't matter if you're from one mile away or
- 20:31Speaker 10: one thousand miles away. If if you're made of the
- 20:33Speaker 10: right stuff, you've got the right heart and the right mindset,
- 20:36Speaker 10: it works. And the team is very evenly made up
- 20:41Speaker 10: of all three of those, you know, different buckets of
- 20:46Speaker 10: talent and so and the older guys have done a
- 20:49Speaker 10: great job just doing i would say, just bringing along
- 20:55Speaker 10: showing our younger guys what it's supposed to look like now,
- 20:59Speaker 10: not later, but right now. And that's in terms of
- 21:02Speaker 10: expediting their experience and their ability to contribute. They've been
- 21:06Speaker 10: a huge part of that. Thank you, thank you, Yeah,
- 21:11Speaker 10: thank you, coach.
- 21:12Speaker 15: At this time, I'll turn it back over to Cameron.
- 21:14Speaker 10: They're in the room for any final question. Do a
- 21:16Speaker 10: couple more in the room before turning it off. But
- 21:18Speaker 10: we'll go with David like in the front.
- 21:19Speaker 15: So you fased Fernando last year at CAV and I'm
- 21:23Speaker 15: curious just what you remember about his performance in that
- 21:25Speaker 15: game and what you would say about maybe his growth
- 21:29Speaker 15: since that time to what he's doing.
- 21:30Speaker 10: You saw all the things that you see now, except
- 21:33Speaker 10: the supporting cast right now is very different. Certainly the
- 21:37Speaker 10: system is completely different, but you're looking at a massive, physical,
- 21:42Speaker 10: tough offensive line that is on point. They don't make mistakes,
- 21:45Speaker 10: their ideas are exactly what they need to be when
- 21:48Speaker 10: they need to be that way. Their receivers are big
- 21:50Speaker 10: time playmakers, and they do it with you back shoulder
- 21:54Speaker 10: underthrown phase. They do it by running by underneath, finding
- 21:58Speaker 10: soft spots in z own coverage and complemented by a
- 22:01Speaker 10: very physical downhill running game and one that could circle
- 22:04Speaker 10: you as well. So a guy like that in that system,
- 22:06Speaker 10: with that level of coaching, where I mean he's been
- 22:09Speaker 10: coached to continue to progress at such a high level.
- 22:12Speaker 10: It's you see the player. You saw the talent last year.
- 22:15Speaker 10: The supporting cast wasn't there yet, and they were a
- 22:18Speaker 10: really good team we thought. But this year, obviously it's
- 22:20Speaker 10: a whole different level with where he's at the.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Will for resenal we ago ten all season long, whether
- 22:26Speaker 1: it be the media, to your players, that one no
- 22:28Speaker 1: mentality has just been your theme.
- 22:31Speaker 16: When the one to O now means a national championship,
- 22:33Speaker 16: how what does that message mean to you?
- 22:36Speaker 10: How does that resonate with the players? Like? How has
- 22:37Speaker 10: it changed this week? The one no mentality? Sir? Well,
- 22:41Speaker 10: you know, well I don't. I don't think you make
- 22:43Speaker 10: the game any heavier than what it is. I think
- 22:45Speaker 10: it's really important that that one to oh, earning one
- 22:49Speaker 10: to O and earning the opportunity to cut it loose
- 22:51Speaker 10: on game day. It's still a process, right, and it
- 22:54Speaker 10: started to last January, and it carries over all the
- 22:56Speaker 10: way through the course of the week. And you don't
- 23:00Speaker 10: ray from that. The only thing you change of that
- 23:02Speaker 10: is you just make it better and better each and
- 23:04Speaker 10: every week, like you really dig deep as a coach,
- 23:06Speaker 10: how can I make this process better? But you don't
- 23:10Speaker 10: go about faced on a theme and a philosophy that
- 23:13Speaker 10: has that has brought you, you know, to this point,
- 23:16Speaker 10: and you know to come this far, you don't straight
- 23:18Speaker 10: from it to go farther. So we stay along the
- 23:21Speaker 10: lines of what we've been doing.
- 23:23Speaker 17: Christopherzackin said, you spoke about Fernando obviously a lot just now,
- 23:27Speaker 17: but their offensive gens Indiana on defense, just your questions
- 23:30Speaker 17: of them, what you see of defensively, they're.
- 23:32Speaker 10: The best overall team and best defense we have faced.
- 23:35Speaker 10: I know that their rankings and anything statistically important are
- 23:39Speaker 10: between one and five. And it starts with this. They're
- 23:42Speaker 10: really fast, physical, explosive, talented and smart. They play with
- 23:46Speaker 10: a lot of physicality, a lot of violence. They understand
- 23:49Speaker 10: their scheme top to bottom. They make it very challenging,
- 23:52Speaker 10: and I'll tell you why they are. They're multiple upfront,
- 23:54Speaker 10: they're multiple on the back end, and so the way
- 23:57Speaker 10: that they understand what you're doing so well, they set
- 24:01Speaker 10: up and line up in a manner where they challenge
- 24:03Speaker 10: their ideas. You know, they've done a great job confusing
- 24:06Speaker 10: opponent offensive lines with how they line up and how
- 24:09Speaker 10: they bluff and disguise what they're doing, not only the
- 24:12Speaker 10: front seven, but on the back end. That's a challenge
- 24:15Speaker 10: with them. And you got to understand these guys. They
- 24:17Speaker 10: played a lot of games together. A lot of these
- 24:20Speaker 10: guys came over from JMU. They went deep into the
- 24:23Speaker 10: playoffs right a year ago. They've been in the system
- 24:26Speaker 10: and have played a lot of ball together, and therefore
- 24:30Speaker 10: that's why you see the instantaneous reactions, right, the physicality
- 24:35Speaker 10: and the way that they the closing speed that they
- 24:37Speaker 10: have on a down after down basis, and on top
- 24:40Speaker 10: of all that, and I think it's really worth pointing
- 24:43Speaker 10: out from a technique and fundamental standpoint, that's what really
- 24:46Speaker 10: stands out to me, because they play with their feet
- 24:48Speaker 10: in the ground, with a great pad level and with
- 24:51Speaker 10: elite use of their hands. They understand how to leverage
- 24:54Speaker 10: the ball and what to do when they get there.
- 24:56Speaker 10: And they from a turnover margin standpoint, they're number one
- 24:59Speaker 10: the country and they played great complimentary football. You witness
- 25:04Speaker 10: some of it, you know, in their last game, but
- 25:06Speaker 10: if you look throughout the course of the season, from
- 25:09Speaker 10: the first series at Iowa through this last weekend with
- 25:12Speaker 10: the pick six and the force fumble and whatnot, they
- 25:15Speaker 10: do a great job playing complimentary football. Robulinson.
- 25:18Speaker 18: To continue in the experience theme, Carson started forty somethings
- 25:22Speaker 18: games in his career. Obviously, you talk year about the
- 25:25Speaker 18: poise in the leadership he shows, but poison one thing
- 25:28Speaker 18: poisoning you have three minutes for your season is a
- 25:31Speaker 18: very different animal when you look back at the drive,
- 25:37Speaker 18: where does that commnists that in a resolve?
- 25:40Speaker 10: Whatever you want to follow it a come from that.
- 25:42Speaker 18: He made it a very smart way he had to
- 25:45Speaker 18: make to win the game with everything riding.
- 25:47Speaker 10: On well, tribute to him, testament to him and his teammates.
- 25:53Speaker 10: So many different things on that drive right that we're
- 25:59Speaker 10: executed at a high level. You know, handful of third
- 26:02Speaker 10: downs that were not the easiest in the world, but
- 26:06Speaker 10: elite protection, elite route running, contested catches, being hard to tackle,
- 26:12Speaker 10: turning a third and twelve to a third and seven,
- 26:14Speaker 10: and said all those things, right, the margins we always
- 26:16Speaker 10: talked all year long, Right, the margins get smaller and
- 26:19Speaker 10: smaller and smaller as the year goes on. And the
- 26:22Speaker 10: margins were three minutes ago and ball in hand were
- 26:24Speaker 10: like this, and you know you will obviously we want
- 26:29Speaker 10: to play a cleaner game. There were some things that
- 26:32Speaker 10: we know that we took a step back in pre
- 26:35Speaker 10: snap penalty, some post snap IQ decisions, some alignment issues
- 26:40Speaker 10: which we feel great about correcting. But when it comes
- 26:43Speaker 10: down to it, the resilience toughness, the fact that we
- 26:48Speaker 10: just felt that that game, it just meant more to
- 26:51Speaker 10: our guys and they were going to find a way
- 26:54Speaker 10: to get it done. But you have to execute, and
- 26:56Speaker 10: they did. And I think all those Wednesdays when we
- 26:59Speaker 10: come out there in the two minute, which we've done
- 27:01Speaker 10: now for the year, I believe thirty seven. You know,
- 27:03Speaker 10: scenarios like that, and we go back and forth offense
- 27:07Speaker 10: when sometimes sometimes it's a defense. For them, it was
- 27:11Speaker 10: it was routine. Thank you.
- 27:15Speaker 3: That's Mario Cristobal.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And you know he brought up penalties, Uh, Indiana. I
- 27:23Speaker 1: mean they're they're top five and everything, as he mentioned,
- 27:28Speaker 1: including penalty yards.
- 27:30Speaker 3: They are second to Army in penalty yards. It's like.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Twenty yards penalties a game or something like that. Miami
- 27:41Speaker 1: was terrible in the semifinals. My gosh, they were horrible
- 27:46Speaker 1: with penalties. Some of it and many of those were
- 27:53Speaker 1: pre snap penalties. Okay, now now some of them like
- 27:57Speaker 1: the holds and stuff like that. It's it's going to
- 28:00Speaker 1: depend on the officiating cruise men. I hope they don't
- 28:06Speaker 1: call a lot of penalties. We'll know early, you know,
- 28:09Speaker 1: if they're going to start flagging holding penalties, on every play,
- 28:14Speaker 1: which you can.
- 28:15Speaker 3: We know.
- 28:17Speaker 1: I just like to see the team settle it right,
- 28:20Speaker 1: penalize the egregious stuff. You got to penalize the pre
- 28:23Speaker 1: snap stuff.
- 28:24Speaker 3: I get that.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Otherwise, let them play, let the guys decide.
- 28:29Speaker 3: I know that's a novel approach. I get that. But
- 28:33Speaker 3: they miami to have a shot. They've got to.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Clean up penalties, for sure. They can't have one hundred
- 28:39Speaker 1: yards worth the penalties. There's no way, because there is
- 28:43Speaker 1: nothing this season that would lead you to believe Indiana's
- 28:47Speaker 1: going to have, you know, fifty yards worth of penalties.
- 28:50Speaker 1: They just don't do it, and it makes it puts
- 28:54Speaker 1: pressure on you to be perfect. Carson Beck was brilliant
- 29:00Speaker 1: in that last drive. He made three phenomenal throws to
- 29:06Speaker 1: win that game. He's got to be more.
- 29:11Speaker 3: Consistent. He has to be more consistent because again, there is.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Nothing that you've seen that would lead you to believe
- 29:21Speaker 1: that Mendoza is going to be anything other than brilliant. Right,
- 29:26Speaker 1: eight touchdown passes, five incomplete passes. That's otherworldly, Okay, And
- 29:36Speaker 1: the level at which this team plays is I've said
- 29:39Speaker 1: this repeatedly, it is so impressive. If you're a college
- 29:43Speaker 1: football fan so impressive. It is a machine. And you
- 29:49Speaker 1: can say, hey, these are old guys, yep. You can
- 29:52Speaker 1: say a lot of them play together, yep. But they
- 29:57Speaker 1: played at James Madison. Not taking anything away from James Madison.
- 30:02Speaker 10: But.
- 30:05Speaker 1: You know, this a whole other level, and they have
- 30:08Speaker 1: responded from the beginning. So looking forward to Monday, you know,
- 30:13Speaker 1: you never know. That's why they played the game. That's
- 30:16Speaker 1: why I still like sports. Well, I like some sports.
- 30:20Speaker 1: You know, other sports like the NBA are fixed, so
- 30:23Speaker 1: that doesn't matter. The NFL's three quarters fixed. But most
- 30:28Speaker 1: of the time you look at games like this and
- 30:31Speaker 1: it's like, it's fun. If you watch college basketball last night,
- 30:34Speaker 1: you saw like four buzzer beaters.
- 30:38Speaker 3: It was really fun.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Miami would love to think they are in a buzzer
- 30:45Speaker 1: beater game on Monday. They would take that right now
- 30:49Speaker 1: and run with it. All right, We're going to take
- 30:51Speaker 1: a break. We've got the high school report coming up.

- 34:05Speaker 5: How are you doing today?
- 34:07Speaker 22: I'm doing great?
- 34:07Speaker 5: How are you doing pretty good?
- 34:10Speaker 21: Thank you so much for joining me today on the
- 34:12Speaker 21: show The Cougar's you know, eight and fifteen on the
- 34:15Speaker 21: season so far, one and three in district play, so
- 34:17Speaker 21: you know, still early parts of the district schedule. How
- 34:21Speaker 21: would you evaluate how your team's performed so far this year?
- 34:25Speaker 22: Yeah, I'd say that we're performing better than our records
- 34:28Speaker 22: shows we you know, if we had the strength of
- 34:31Speaker 22: schedule RPI number, we would have a really hard strength
- 34:36Speaker 22: to schedule. We scheduled our non district you know, all
- 34:41Speaker 22: six a's. I think nearly all of our non district
- 34:45Speaker 22: teams are going to end up being playoff teams in
- 34:47Speaker 22: their district. So U you know, we knew we had
- 34:50Speaker 22: a really hard district that played an up tempo, physical style,
- 34:56Speaker 22: and we wanted to schedule our non district opponents to
- 35:00Speaker 22: start to prepare for that. And so you know, we're
- 35:04Speaker 22: going to see how that goes. But evaluation less season
- 35:07Speaker 22: and you got a bunch of kids that you know,
- 35:10Speaker 22: fight hard and.
- 35:12Speaker 10: Love the game.
- 35:13Speaker 5: Yeah, you mentioned the strength of schedule.
- 35:15Speaker 21: Max perhaps actually has the strength of schedule factor that
- 35:19Speaker 21: they use in their rankings and compared to a lot
- 35:22Speaker 21: of the teams around you that have better record but
- 35:26Speaker 21: ranked similarly, like you said, your careers have a lot
- 35:29Speaker 21: a lot tougher schedule. So that's you know, always a
- 35:33Speaker 21: good factor to get those kids some tougher competition in
- 35:36Speaker 21: the tournaments before district play, you know, prepare them for
- 35:40Speaker 21: that schedule the you know, the games that count.
- 35:42Speaker 10: Uh.
- 35:42Speaker 21: So what are what would you say are some of
- 35:43Speaker 21: the biggest strengths and maybe the biggest weaknesses of your
- 35:46Speaker 21: squad this year?
- 35:48Speaker 22: Uh, you know, strengths, We've got a lot of guys
- 35:50Speaker 22: that have multiple skill sets, you know, we have we're
- 35:54Speaker 22: not locked in positionally, uh, to any one style. A
- 35:58Speaker 22: lot of our bigs can handle the ball and can shoot,
- 36:01Speaker 22: and we actually have some pretty you know, strong tough
- 36:04Speaker 22: guards that can score inside. So you know, it makes
- 36:08Speaker 22: it makes creating lineups easy for us, and sometimes it
- 36:12Speaker 22: can be difficult for other teams, you know, if they're
- 36:15Speaker 22: if they're built too far in one direction, either size
- 36:19Speaker 22: or speed. You know, So it allows us to play
- 36:23Speaker 22: up tempo, allows us to play slow inside outside, you know,
- 36:28Speaker 22: depending on what the game stript is and uh, you
- 36:31Speaker 22: know what our strength is, we can play in a
- 36:33Speaker 22: lot of different directions.
- 36:35Speaker 21: So I was looking at your roster beforehand, and notice
- 36:37Speaker 21: that you have three players listed at six four or taller.
- 36:42Speaker 21: How big of a factor do you think the height
- 36:45Speaker 21: and the size of the players at this level, the
- 36:48Speaker 21: high school level, compared to you know, maybe the college
- 36:51Speaker 21: or pro level.
- 36:51Speaker 5: How big of a factor does that play?
- 36:53Speaker 22: Oh, it's big, it's huge.
- 36:56Speaker 13: You know.
- 36:57Speaker 22: We we have a few guys with with size, and
- 37:01Speaker 22: you know here you know, in our program and just
- 37:06Speaker 22: at our school in general, we really prioritize the weight room.
- 37:09Speaker 22: So you know, we have some size height wise, but
- 37:12Speaker 22: you know, if you if you see our guys, we
- 37:15Speaker 22: you know we're pretty filled out too. And so whenever
- 37:18Speaker 22: it comes to you know, trying to get rebounds. That's
- 37:21Speaker 22: that's where we're trying to lean into. So it's not
- 37:26Speaker 22: just the height size, but you know, we've got some
- 37:29Speaker 22: stout kids too, and so it plays a huge factor
- 37:34Speaker 22: for us. Now you get to the college level, like
- 37:36Speaker 22: you know, you're talking about that everybody's got six age
- 37:39Speaker 22: six nine. We don't have that quite yet, but you know,
- 37:44Speaker 22: having a few guys that are six four and above
- 37:46Speaker 22: really helps, especially, like I said, with a few of
- 37:48Speaker 22: those guys having the ability to play some guard, you
- 37:51Speaker 22: can roll out a pretty large lineup and not lose
- 37:55Speaker 22: a lot of perimeter skill either.
- 37:57Speaker 21: So looking at the schedule, next up on the docket, uh,
- 38:01Speaker 21: Friday night, I'm guessing this is the district by So
- 38:04Speaker 21: you're filling in with Cornerstone Christian.
- 38:06Speaker 5: What are your thoughts on that game?
- 38:08Speaker 11: Man?
- 38:08Speaker 22: Yeah, Cornerstone Christian. You know they're they're twenty and five.
- 38:14Speaker 22: You know, I know I know several of the of
- 38:17Speaker 22: the teams, uh that they that they've played. They actually
- 38:21Speaker 22: played the school right where I came from this last year,
- 38:24Speaker 22: Georgetown East View, and they're good. They played fast. You know,
- 38:29Speaker 22: they've got some shooting ability. They'll press you a little bit.
- 38:32Speaker 22: They Again, the way we constructed our schedule was our
- 38:36Speaker 22: next game lining up after that would be Brenham. You know,
- 38:39Speaker 22: we just we schedule people that were going to play
- 38:41Speaker 22: a certain style, play as tough, play as fast, so
- 38:44Speaker 22: that we can you know that we can train ourselves
- 38:47Speaker 22: to play against that style also, so you know that's
- 38:50Speaker 22: going to be a tough one.
- 38:52Speaker 21: Then you've got eight district games left on the year,
- 38:56Speaker 21: starting with Brenham, Like you mentioned, that's a road game.
- 38:59Speaker 21: The Cougar's currently sit and basically a tie for fourth place.
- 39:04Speaker 21: The top three teams in the district all with three wins,
- 39:07Speaker 21: the Cougar's, Montgomery and Brin them all with one win.
- 39:11Speaker 5: So what are your thoughts on the district?
- 39:12Speaker 21: And you know, maybe again talking about the strength of schedule,
- 39:16Speaker 21: it's pretty solid district.
- 39:17Speaker 22: Yeah, I mean, this districts the killer And you know
- 39:20Speaker 22: when you're talking about being tied for fourth place, any
- 39:23Speaker 22: given night, whether your first place or last place, anybody
- 39:27Speaker 22: can beat anybody. And so there's a whole lot of
- 39:30Speaker 22: season left. You know, we're just we got to take
- 39:32Speaker 22: care of the of the next step and you know,
- 39:34Speaker 22: each week focus on the two opponents that we got
- 39:37Speaker 22: that we can take it one step at a time.
- 39:39Speaker 22: So right now, you know, our mind's on Cornerstone, and
- 39:43Speaker 22: then Saturday, you know, we're going to start prepping for Brinham,
- 39:46Speaker 22: and you know, hopefully all of the stuff that we've
- 39:48Speaker 22: done to prepare up until this moment, you know, kind
- 39:51Speaker 22: of gives us a head start on some of that preparation.
- 39:55Speaker 22: But yeah, the district's tough and everybody's fighting every night,
- 39:59Speaker 22: so we're just hoping, you know, that we're going to
- 40:01Speaker 22: be able to come out and play well and lock
- 40:04Speaker 22: in one of those top four spots you know at
- 40:07Speaker 22: the end of the season.
- 40:08Speaker 21: Yeah, districts like this where the geography of the district's
- 40:11Speaker 21: actually you know, really tight, with Brinham and Rudder and
- 40:15Speaker 21: then both of the College Station ID schools and Huntsville
- 40:18Speaker 21: all in the mix. I really enjoy when you have those,
- 40:22Speaker 21: you know, already kind of natural rivalryes.
- 40:24Speaker 5: So that's a lot of fun to watch.
- 40:25Speaker 21: Yeah, definitely, Well, coach, I appreciate your time today and
- 40:28Speaker 21: we wish you luck throughout the rest of the season.
- 40:30Speaker 22: Yeah, hey, thanks so much for having me on.

- 42:02Speaker 1: So we've got that going on for us, which is nice.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Coming up, we're going to hear from Kurt Signetti, the
- 42:08Speaker 1: head coach at Indiana. In the second hour. We've got
- 42:12Speaker 1: our Clark Eisenhower outdoor. Addition, we have a lot of
- 42:16Speaker 1: really really mean animals to talk about coming up, and
- 42:21Speaker 1: we're going to talk water quality in the state of
- 42:23Speaker 1: Texas and obviously along the coast as well. Our Texans
- 42:28Speaker 1: Report is presented by Oscar and Sons and Citizens State Bank.

- 43:05Speaker 27: What's has been made about the Houston Texans quick turnaround
- 43:08Speaker 27: as the team that drew the short straw on playing
- 43:10Speaker 27: in the Monday night wild card game. It's one last
- 43:12Speaker 27: day for the Texans to recover, which could be impactful
- 43:15Speaker 27: for several key players injury wise. Wide receiver Nico Collins
- 43:19Speaker 27: is among those who are dealing with injuries. Collins left
- 43:22Speaker 27: Monday's game in Pittsburgh with a concussion, the second one
- 43:25Speaker 27: he's suffered this season, and now he'll need to work
- 43:28Speaker 27: through and pass concussion protocol in order to be available
- 43:31Speaker 27: for Sunday's game in New England. In the meantime, the
- 43:34Speaker 27: Texans defense has been the identity of the team and
- 43:37Speaker 27: the most dominant unit in the league. Head coach Tamiko
- 43:40Speaker 27: Ryans was asked about what's made them so good.
- 43:43Speaker 10: They're fast, they're physical.
- 43:45Speaker 28: The way they get out the ball, the way they
- 43:47Speaker 28: collapse the pocket.
- 43:48Speaker 10: It's a their terror.
- 43:50Speaker 29: The Texans will need that same type of effort on
- 43:53Speaker 29: Sunday in the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs. Texans

- 45:37Speaker 32: station station.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us here on this Thursday afternoon. We
- 46:05Speaker 1: heard from Mario Chris Ball a little bit earlier. Now
- 46:09Speaker 1: let's hear a little bit more from Kurt Signetti from Indiana.
- 46:14Speaker 33: Yeah, Kurt, I know your offense has evolved and personnel
- 46:17Speaker 33: has obviously changed, but just facing Corey Heatherman ad kind
- 46:20Speaker 33: of any wrinkles. It's a game planning given his familiarity
- 46:24Speaker 33: with your scheme and Mike Shanahan, and I know you
- 46:28Speaker 33: mentioned that he is a bit different scheme wise than
- 46:31Speaker 33: Brian Haynes. Is what's unique about his kind of approach
- 46:35Speaker 33: versus Brian Well.
- 46:37Speaker 34: I think we've evolved offensively since you know, he was
- 46:41Speaker 34: my defensive coordinator first three years at GMU. We've evolved
- 46:46Speaker 34: offensively terminoal he has changed. We do things differently, But
- 46:50Speaker 34: his scheme has two now philosophically, you know, in terms
- 46:57Speaker 34: of what we think is important him and I that
- 47:00Speaker 34: hadn't changed.
- 47:01Speaker 10: Uh.
- 47:02Speaker 34: You know, he's going to create havoc up front, Uh,
- 47:04Speaker 34: stop the run. TfL's sacks, they got forty seven sacks
- 47:08Speaker 34: on the year, and he's going to attack. The way
- 47:12Speaker 34: he goes about it is a little different than the
- 47:14Speaker 34: way he went about it at JMU, But you know
- 47:16Speaker 34: the way we go by the offensively is a little
- 47:18Speaker 34: different too. So, Uh, you know, I got a lot
- 47:21Speaker 34: of respect for Corey. He did a tremendous job when
- 47:25Speaker 34: I hated to see him go. I hold him in
- 47:29Speaker 34: very high regard. He's one of the best football coaches
- 47:32Speaker 34: I've ever been around. His day and day out intensity
- 47:35Speaker 34: and his commitment to the game is unparalleled. But I
- 47:39Speaker 34: was fortunate to have Brian Haynes on my staff who
- 47:43Speaker 34: was ready to step into that role. And they're you know,
- 47:46Speaker 34: they're a little different because they are different people. And uh,
- 47:49Speaker 34: you know Briant, uh, you know, likes to do a
- 47:53Speaker 34: lot of different things, and but we do them well.
- 47:56Speaker 34: But the philosophy is still the same in terms of
- 47:59Speaker 34: it all starts up. And uh, you know, statistically, since
- 48:02Speaker 34: Brian's taken over, you know, we it's about like it
- 48:06Speaker 34: was when Corey was a coordinator. You know, we're always
- 48:09Speaker 34: in the top five in total defense one or two
- 48:12Speaker 34: against a run, very high in TFLs and sacks and uh,
- 48:16Speaker 34: but you know, in terms of the schematics, you know,
- 48:20Speaker 34: Man's own that kind of blitzes the front. You know,
- 48:23Speaker 34: we've changed a little bit, and I've seen Corey change
- 48:26Speaker 34: based on what I'm seeing on tape.
- 48:31Speaker 11: Next up is Pete the Premio Pete.
- 48:33Speaker 25: Go ahead, Yeah, Hey, Kurt, I'm wondering with the D'Angelo
- 48:37Speaker 25: Pond's playing wide receiver.
- 48:39Speaker 7: Was that game specific?
- 48:41Speaker 25: Did you think about doing that during the regular season?
- 48:43Speaker 1: And have you ever played a guy two ways?
- 48:45Speaker 10: And if not, wouldge.
- 48:48Speaker 34: That was specific to a certain situation and down in
- 48:51Speaker 34: distance in this game against Oregon this past game. You know,
- 48:57Speaker 34: he's a tremendous athlete. He's got great stops dart speed
- 49:01Speaker 34: and quickness. He's a baller and you know he went
- 49:05Speaker 34: in and executed play perfectly, and they gave us the
- 49:08Speaker 34: look or we would throw the ball and not hand
- 49:09Speaker 34: it off, and then he outran him to the perimeter
- 49:12Speaker 34: and got the first down. You know, he was a
- 49:13Speaker 34: high school quarterback also, and there's a lot of things
- 49:17Speaker 34: he could probably do. And you know, we'll see how
- 49:20Speaker 34: much we use him over there this week.
- 49:25Speaker 11: All right, we'll go to the line now of Adam Rittenberg. Adam,
- 49:27Speaker 11: go ahead.
- 49:30Speaker 35: Hey, Kay, Kurt, appreciate your time. You know you mentioned
- 49:32Speaker 35: being a little short handed defensively. How are you guys
- 49:35Speaker 35: doing just from a health standpoint, freshness standpoint, Kamara and
- 49:38Speaker 35: others going into into this game on Monday.
- 49:41Speaker 34: Yeah, we came out really good, and you know, everybody
- 49:44Speaker 34: that played in the last game will playing this game.
- 49:47Speaker 35: And just really quickly, what do you think the legacy
- 49:50Speaker 35: of the guys you brought over from James Madison will
- 49:53Speaker 35: ultimately be at Indiana And has there been anything that
- 49:57Speaker 35: they've done or continue to do that surprised you at
- 49:59Speaker 35: this point?
- 50:01Speaker 34: Well, I think they've been a big part of you know,
- 50:04Speaker 34: what's transpired here especially year one in the transition. You know,
- 50:09Speaker 34: we had a lot of guys decided to stay, they
- 50:11Speaker 34: had the right stuff, a lot of new guys, the
- 50:14Speaker 34: jam you guys, you know probably represented about half of
- 50:18Speaker 34: the transfers we brought in in December, and they were
- 50:22Speaker 34: probably able to answer some questions for the new guys,
- 50:26Speaker 34: the returners to in terms of how we do things
- 50:28Speaker 34: and about me and the other coaches. So in terms
- 50:32Speaker 34: of their legacy. I don't think that book's final chapter
- 50:36Speaker 34: has been written yet and when when it has been written,
- 50:38Speaker 34: and I think we'll all have a clear idea.
- 50:42Speaker 10: Thank you.
- 50:44Speaker 11: Next we'll go to Sammy Jacobs savvy and go a head.
- 50:49Speaker 36: Coach, thanks for thanks for doing this. I wanted to
- 50:52Speaker 36: ask about Pac Hoogan and how easy it makes it
- 50:55Speaker 36: in film to a hammer home that he finished the
- 50:58Speaker 36: play when he's one of your sow yards downfield jumping
- 51:02Speaker 36: on a fumble. It's a second time he's done it
- 51:04Speaker 36: this year. Just how does that help the philosophy of
- 51:08Speaker 36: your team?
- 51:09Speaker 34: Well, he's a winner. Pat Coogan is a winner, and
- 51:12Speaker 34: but we got and we got a lot of guys
- 51:14Speaker 34: like Pat Coogan, but he's been a great addition, played
- 51:17Speaker 34: a lot of football Notre Dame. We needed a center.
- 51:20Speaker 34: He saw the opportunity.
- 51:22Speaker 10: Uh.
- 51:22Speaker 34: He's been key to the development of the offensive line,
- 51:27Speaker 34: one of the leaders on our football team. And you know,
- 51:31Speaker 34: this team has really grown closer as the season's going on.
- 51:35Speaker 34: It's a very tight group. H And this team has
- 51:39Speaker 34: probably taken the message of how we want to play
- 51:42Speaker 34: and put it on the field to a greater extent
- 51:46Speaker 34: than any of the other teams we've had. And Pat's
- 51:50Speaker 34: a key part of that. He's very highly respected by
- 51:53Speaker 34: his teammates. He prepares great. I mean, you're on the
- 51:57Speaker 34: plane traveling, you see Pat back there. You know he's
- 52:02Speaker 34: he's reading his notes, writing things down. You know, game
- 52:06Speaker 34: means a lot to him. And the fact that he
- 52:09Speaker 34: was twenty yards downfield and recovered that fumble, you know,
- 52:12Speaker 34: it didn't surprise me a bit that it was Pat Coogan.
- 52:15Speaker 34: We just got to teach him now once he recovers it.
- 52:17Speaker 34: The role over properly, all.
- 52:21Speaker 11: Right, And our last question today will come from Chris Vanini. Chris,
- 52:24Speaker 11: go ahead, Brenanda Mendoza.
- 52:30Speaker 17: He talks to us in the media like a coach,
- 52:32Speaker 17: Like he sounds like a coach. I'm curious what is
- 52:35Speaker 17: his communication like within the team and within the program,
- 52:38Speaker 17: and when you're working with him.
- 52:41Speaker 34: Well, you know, Chandler Whitmered, Pribyu and Derek Owens, our
- 52:45Speaker 34: strength and conditioning coach, have more day and day out
- 52:49Speaker 34: involvement with Fernando than I do. And I can tell
- 52:54Speaker 34: you this that the best way to lead a team
- 52:56Speaker 34: is to perform well, especially at the quarterback position. You know,
- 53:00Speaker 34: I've never tried to like make that guy the leader
- 53:03Speaker 34: in springball because his performance will speak for itself. And
- 53:07Speaker 34: he he is highly highly respected, uh in the locker room.
- 53:13Speaker 10: Uh.
- 53:13Speaker 34: And you know, the way he's played speaks for itself.
- 53:17Speaker 34: I mean I thought he was excellent against Oregon and
- 53:19Speaker 34: he's just you know, even since the Heisman Trophy. Uh,
- 53:23Speaker 34: you know, uh, he's upped his level of play. And uh,
- 53:28Speaker 34: you know, he's a special guy. I mean, he's extremely
- 53:31Speaker 34: intelligent and uh and people recognize that. And you know,
- 53:35Speaker 34: he says the right things and he'll be really successful
- 53:38Speaker 34: one day when football ends, whatever it is he chooses
- 53:41Speaker 34: to do. And he's got a great relationship with the
- 53:45Speaker 34: guys and and you know it's mainly the older guys obviously, Uh,
- 53:49Speaker 34: those guys hang together and uh, but I think what
- 53:53Speaker 34: he's done behind the scenes to uh, you know, to
- 53:56Speaker 34: bring the offensive unit even closer together, and that's a lot.
- 54:01Speaker 34: Those are a lot of things that I'm not aware
- 54:03Speaker 34: of at the time to find out later. You know,
- 54:06Speaker 34: he's just done a tremendous job in every single area
- 54:10Speaker 34: where you could impact team's success. He's been front and center.
- 54:16Speaker 17: When you do talk with him, do you come away
- 54:18Speaker 17: just impressed it his maturity and the way he kind
- 54:22Speaker 17: of carries himself and talks to you.
- 54:25Speaker 34: You know, when I talk to him, the conversations are
- 54:27Speaker 34: usually pretty short and he doesn't say a lot in
- 54:29Speaker 34: the building or on the practice field. He's not a
- 54:31Speaker 34: vocal guy. Where you, I think get a full taste
- 54:35Speaker 34: of Fernando Mendoza's is during the interview process, you know,
- 54:39Speaker 34: whether it's during the week or after the game, and
- 54:43Speaker 34: you know, it's always an A plus interview.
- 54:50Speaker 1: It's Kurt Signetti and a little insight into his heisman,
- 54:54Speaker 1: quarterback Fernando Mendelza, who has been nothing short of spec
- 55:00Speaker 1: tacular Miami defense, which is really good, really good.
- 55:05Speaker 3: They're gonna have their work cutout for them.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Hey Brens Valley Flooring a Design been part of our
