- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: Those mafia, what's going on?
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: Happy trade day in the NFL and the bills did nothing.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: Person five podcasts.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Dave Myers, your host joined on Tuesdays.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's always by my guy, John Helmcamp.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: So initial reaction, John, and we were just talking offline that this isn't going to be a scripted show because I was refreshing my phone until 405, 408, 410, and I was like, well, shit, I got to go do a podcast.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: What's your thoughts initial reaction?
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not surprised.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: I am bummed.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: I was hoping for more, excuse me, while I adjust my camera.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously was hoping for a move.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: We've been talking about it.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: All of Bill's mafia has been talking about it for the better part of a month that feels like in terms of what needs to be addressed at the trade deadline.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: There's certainly some things on this roster that can use improving, although granted, this is coming off just beating the chiefs
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: losing earlier to the falcons.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: So the vibes are certainly different.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think anything has something to do with it?
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't mean to cut you off.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that Sunday had anything to do with it?
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: I know absolutely there's some reports that have come out saying that Brandon Bean was in on this guy.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: Brandon Bean was in on that guy.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: Brandon Bean was shaken the trees here and doing this and all that.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: And then
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: We see Rashid Shahid go not to the bills.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: Rashid Shahid go we minors go not to the bills.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Both those guys were heavily linked to the bills for the last 10 to 14 days.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: So, let me get your thought process.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that Sunday had something to do with it?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think you might have played into it a little bit.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think that standing tall against the chiefs and really controlling that game for most of it, if not all of it, probably made Brandon being feel better about his roster than he had if you had asked him two weeks ago.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: I also think, like, listen, it's not just all on Brandon being.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: We can't just sit here and be like, damn it, the bills didn't make a trade.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: What a flop by Brandon being again, although I guess we can kind of say that, it takes to, I mean, the value that we saw, especially on Wider Severs, which obviously is a position that a lot of people had circled and thinking, like, hey, we got to go out and get a receiver.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: This, this offense needs a receiver.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I would have paid those prices.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, was it a third and a fourth for Shihida or fourth and a fifth, I can't remember fourth and a fifth, fourth and a fifth.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I would have paid those prices.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, was it a third and a fourth for Shihida or fourth and a fifth, I can't remember fourth and a fifth.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what I mean.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I already has a bona fide number one and has a really good wide receiving room in the Seattle C. Hawks.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Sam Warren.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: Sam Warren with Sam Darnal is their quarterback.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a great get for them.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: He fits their scheme better than he fits ours, if I'm being perfectly honest.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: But J.S.N's gonna take a ton of coverage and all the attention from the defense's same journal is the best deep ball thrower in the NFL in the year 2025.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's insane.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: And again, I don't, I didn't hear you correctly.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: Sam Darnold is the best deepball thrower in the NFL in the year 2025.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's a crazy, crazy thing to say.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be great, like that's going to be a great fit for them.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: I love that for Seattle, they're in the NFC, so I'm not really too worried about it.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: It would have been great to have them.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that he would have been a great fit as well, just to give us that element of speed to stretch the defense and control the safety and things like that.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know that I would have gone a fourth and a fifth for a half year rental of Chihiri becomes a free agent after the season.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't know, that feels steep.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: If that was the going rate, I mean, some crazy things were happening like multiple first round picks flying all over the place that jets have five bursts over the next two years now, it's not I don't know.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like I kind of get Brandon being being like, I don't know, I'm not going to go to that price.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: If you could've got him for like just a fourth or just a fifth, yeah, I think the Brandon probably would've felt get about that and made the move, but I don't know, man.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: It just seems like a lot.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: Let me ask you this, okay.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: So obviously, why do receiver was the hot button position for everybody for since the spring?
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then obviously it became an issue again after the two losses, no separation and all this stuff.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: widely the bills were linked to all these wide receivers.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: So let me ask you this.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Is there another position that the bill should have been looking at?
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like defensive tackle, maybe defensive end, things like that that kind of ding it is much push out there in the public as the wide receiver did?
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't see the bills really linked to hardly any defensive players.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like there was a
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously seen what happened to Michael Hoyt like that's just a gut contract there.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: He get a guy who has just become this spark in this engine on your defense and now he's out and I guess
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: The bills are still okay, I mean there.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: If you look like statistically at any of the next gen stuff, like the bills are getting pressures from the edge defenders.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like they are in the top of the top.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: When we're talking even about Eponesa Bosa or so, they're getting pressure.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: Is there a position, safety, maybe, if they line back or is there a position, maybe that you thought that they would have maybe taken a taken a swing on, at least to try to see if there was something out there I didn't I didn't really hear any from all the way about the defensive players linked to the bills any defensive players really at all other than the two that were traded from the jets.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I didn't hear anything.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: Safety obviously has been a big hot button conversation over the last couple months and rightly so.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what it's taking here is some people in a heartbeat.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: In a heartbeat, yeah, it's rough.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like there's things that could have been done by Brandon being.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like there's
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: positions that you would have loved to see in addition, I would have loved to see them just do something like even if it was.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: A late-round pick swap for some veteran on an expiring contract just something like I would have just like to see something happen instead of just completely standing pad but a lot of teams did.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: Basically everyone in the AFC stood pat except the Colts.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: like nobody really when I was in improved their team.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: I put that in the built-in Buffalo group chat.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: I said did anybody now I I'm sure feel different than a lot of people feel about South Gardner.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: People out there saying that he's the best corner back in the NFL.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'll argue that I'll argue that all day, but I put in the group chat did anybody in the AFC besides the
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: get better today.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you can say the culture seven and two, currently the number one seed in the AFC and, you know, they got better.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: So that's, you know, whatever, the Patriots didn't get better.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: The Chiefs didn't get better.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: The Broncos didn't get better.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: The Chargers didn't get better.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if the Jags got better by getting Jacobi miners, I guess, but they still have Brian Thomas that they're not using.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: So it was a really good question because obviously the the Jets dealt, you know, who they dealt away.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, you look at, you look at Brandon Bean's history of doing something like he went out and got in the Heim Heinz right before the deadline a couple years ago and then last year obviously he got a Murray Cooper.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: It just feels like if you look at this roster on paper, I feel like there's still some things that they could have addressed.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: It might not have been shiny toys that everybody wants and things like that, but I don't know,
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: Looking at the the entire landscape.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the Cowboys needed to make some moves defensively.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: If you watch them play football last night, their defenses is in trouble.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: And they Here's the thing, too, the Cowboys didn't get anybody to cover anybody.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't trade for anybody to cover anybody, and that's where they have the biggest issues.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know, looking at the landscape of the AFC, I'm not completely.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: upset at Brandon being because it didn't seem like anybody was willing to do things to improve the roster maybe that's an indictment on how the AFC could be really wide open this year and maybe he feels like hey we just came off of a really emotional win over the chiefs the defense has looked good really you know two weeks in a row now maybe he knows something we don't know what the inner workings of McDermott call in the defense and stuff like that but
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: If we're going to add players to the team, you're looking at TJ Sanders coming back, you're looking at dayquan Jones coming back, Gabe Davis, it's just inevitable, so he's all up from the practice squad.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think he just needs practice time.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: So where do we go from here?
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's where I want to go with this.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: Where do we go from here?
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: we are we can all be upset that being didn't do anything because I think we'd like the fact that we have we do historically have an aggressive general manager as far as making trades and whether it's the draft off season during the season whatever and we didn't and it's come to find out that the bills were one of the teams I called the jets about Garrett Wilson there was a report I'm sure they got hung up on they're not sending him in division right
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then Diana Rossini put out a tweet saying that AFCE's teams called on Jalen Waddle.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: You have to assume it's the bills in the Patriots and they weren't willing to deal with in the division.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your thoughts, man?
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like where do we go from here?
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: Because we did a show a couple of weeks ago and we were concerned about the offense.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: And then the bills did what they did.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: They scored what almost 70 points and two games and Josh looked better this past week against.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: a really good chief's team.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: So where do we go from here is?
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: Is this what we're going to do is concede Shakir Cook?
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: Is this the answer?
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Is this the script now?
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: What the bills want to try to just keep pushing all these chips into the table?
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: And this is what we're going to do?
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: Or like what what's your thoughts?
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then we can then let's put aside.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's start on the offense.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: I tweeted out right
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: Shakira led the team in targets with eight, Dalton, Kincaid had seven, nobody else had more than two.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: and James Cook had 27 of the 29 running back carries.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't mean it's green, everybody eats to me.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: No, and I think that it's a concerted effort, and I love it.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we've been talking about this for a month.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, hey, cool.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody eats is cute and all that stuff, but like, you've got to get your best players the ball.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: They're not forcing the ball to key on.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: Have you noticed that over the last two games?
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: There haven't been a single one of those.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna throw a back shoulder of faith on 10.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: There was even a time against the chiefs where Kian was open for like five minutes and Josh was like fine and he threw it to him like he was like yeah, read so that's good to see so and listen we can talk to know you're fine we can talk about.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: the draft pick and we can talk about other philosophical things at another time, but just in terms of what we do with the offense on the field this year.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, key on Coleman should not be leading this team in targets.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: There's no effing way.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: What has been working over the last two weeks is what you should be doing.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: Get the ball to your two best players.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: Dalton King Kaden, Khalil Shakir.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: Now the thing that they aren't doing that still pisses me off, where are the James Cook targets?
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: It needs to happen.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't get it.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he had one.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: He finally caught one.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm going to talk about that.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: One reception, they needed a play, right?
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: Then in there, they needed to first down to keep the clock running in James Cook made a play in the passing game.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: And that's like, yeah, I don't understand why if it's third and seven, and it's the second quarter and you're driving and you're driving, you're getting to a point where we're almost in field goal range or two a point where this, this is going to be points.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we're always swing past the James Cook or something in the flat or just over the middle.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: I like, I don't get it, but I digress.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: No, I completely agree and I want to see more of that as this season goes on, especially, you know, if and when the playoffs come knocking, you have to get the ball to James Cook in space.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's he's the best player on the team in space with the ball in his hands, like period at any position.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: with him with the ball in space is the guy that I want to have it and they're not working on that.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: They're not getting that to him.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: And that to me is still slightly concerning.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: However, this concerted effort, especially on Sunday against the chiefs of its Dalton Kincade, its Khalil Shakir and its James Cook running the
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: I love to see that.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: I do because that is the formula for how you win and you be consistent and you're not trying to cute with it.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you have other players that factor in and having a lot of guys that can factor in that Josh feels good getting the ball to is fine.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: And when Palmer comes back, I'm really curious to see what the target share is going to look like because I do like him.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: I like what Palmer brings.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: quite a bit.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he has very reliable hands.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he is one of the best separators on the team.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: Probably second behind Shakir would be probably how I would bring that.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't mean to cut you off again, but I think a lot of that, I think that thought process right there got lost in a lot of the wise and being making a move for a wide receiver.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: We just looked really good offensively and really efficient without Joshua Palmer
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I think a lot of that got lost in the shuffle of we need a downfield guy We need this we need that and like I said There's gonna be times when Joshua Palmer's back and there's gonna be times when they're running deep routes with Gabe Davis Just wait for it to happen.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's inevitable.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's just inevitable.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I didn't mean to steal your thunder on that
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: No, you're you're absolutely right, though.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Gabe Davis does feel inevitable and when he, you know, catch up with the price of the 40 yard post and Miami.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't either.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: When he catches a 40 yard post and it's his one catch at the game.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be hilarious.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait for him to catch the ball because he had to work.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: He has the worst.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: Got it, it's, I don't know, it's disgusting.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: But listen, as the team's number four, number five, while I receive her, I'm perfectly fine with Gabe Davis.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: That is okay with me.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: Not relying on him as being the number two option, but as a depth guy is a rotational guy that is good at running the deep routes and has a connection with Josh, sure, that's fine.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm fine with Gabe Davis has the fourth or fifth option.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, he can run that post route and the go pretty well.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have a lot of white receivers that can do that.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: Although the Elijah more deep down the field target was nice.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: That was fun to see.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: Contest.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: I posted the clip and I said instead of us bitching and complaining about why receivers can we just get more of this.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: Where is this week's like where has this been.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's finally maybe he's finally coming around and learning the offense a little bit that.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: So many people said to me, well, maybe that's what they meant by their holding back, blah, blah, blah, and that's like, come on, no, it was a nice, it was a nice pass from Josh and was a nice route, but that we need to see more of that, like, same with Joshua Palmer against the Falcons, it's like, why is it there?
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's not like you don't know me like it was so first and I understand Palmer went out against the Falcons, but it was like there's that big target to lies you more and that's your only target the whole game that's it go go do whatever pretend to run routes or block or do something else we're not going to try to do that again even though it was super effective in it worked really well.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: So I do like though the offense the last two weeks.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: I love to push from the offense align against Kansas City.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: That was great.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_01]: They came with their lunch pales and they got to work and watching.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, my brain just stopped working.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: Right tackle.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: Why, I don't, I don't, yeah, thank you.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pushing Chris Jones back.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm pushing Chris Jones.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: Driving Chris Jones down the field, just Jones is in a complete back pedal was beautiful to see.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: So the offense aligns getting their mojo back a little bit, cutting down on the penalties like I love it.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the Brady's play calling was a lot better.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that it was a little bit more varied.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: I saw a little more of the orbit motions and things like that there were a custom to seeing.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: than we have, you know, during the cold stretches this year.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, I like the direction of the offense.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: I feel pretty optimistic about it.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: Joe Brady still gives me a little bit of hesitation, but I like the way that it's trending right now.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think we can probably flip over to the defense aside.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I think where I really want to start is Dion Walker.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: on the defensive line.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we've been waiting for a draft pick to really kind of cement himself and and hit Dion Walker is playing like a top tier defensive tackle did you see that I posted where he just picked up.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: What's his Creed Humphrey and just went excuse me and one in the back field.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: He just went to read, excuse me, excuse me, all pro Creed Humphrey loves you're in my way.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'd like to come by now.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's like holy shit dude, yeah, so you brought up the defense and by the way, John, don't look at the chat.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: Just don't look at the chat pretend it's not.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't seen it because it's it's it's on it's on fire with a lot of stuff that I don't even want to put on the screen.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: So, you brought up the defense and let's let's kind of streamline this into is this defense good enough even though they lost Michael Hoyt now.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: There obviously was other players that played before Michael Hoyton, Larry Ogon, Joe, we got, you know, back from their suspensions, we still do have Larry Ogon, Joe B.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: So when we have some guys coming back, are you surprised that there wasn't a move considered for like, like I started to show with anything in the defense, whether it's an end to kind of replace Hoyton what he does the thing, I think about losing Hoyt that is concerning to me is the last shit.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's not bills related, but the Arizona Cardinals are naming Jacobi Bracette as they're starting quarterback.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm surprised they didn't trade a calendar.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: Iler.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: But an hour and hour after the trade deadline, and you didn't move colors, so not color just how maybe they couldn't move on.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that's why they were we where they waited.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: My first voice is that, you know, obviously there's there's common knowledge of how smart he is.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's went around and he's like this.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: ridiculously smart guy and he was guiding the defensive line where to line up it looked like a lot of times now that's gone so i'm a little like not i don't want to say baffle but i'm a little concerned with number one who they have on the practice squad that they can elevate number two if we're waiting on day one jones to come back at a hundred percent i mean he came back from injury last time and looked horrible he's getting older he's coming back from injury again
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: TJ Sanders looked okay, so they still have the core guys.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, no add Oliver for the rest of the year.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: So are you concerned at all with the defensive line?
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: Now that Hoyt and Oliver's out in the bills made no moves to add any kind of depth.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: The force defensive end or a third or fourth, however you want to raise a defensive tackle.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I am and and I would have liked this to be on the interior if I'm being perfectly honest and less you're going for a superstar past pressure, which obviously would be the nuclear option and be phenomenal to see.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: Listen, I would have been totally good with Brandon being getting ultra conservative and trading away to first arm fix.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: to go get a star.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: If one was available, but we don't know if one was.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like the same deal for Quinn and Williams, they might have just straight up said we're not sending him in the division, so we're sending him to Dallas.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like we don't know if being had those conversations, we don't know if he kicked around with other, you know, premiere edges like tray Hendricks and Max Crosby that are on, you know, teams that are circling the drain.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: we don't know, but man, I would have like to see it.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm fine.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: Give up those late first round picks.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: They haven't really been working for you much anyways.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: Go get aggressive and get a superstar into this roster.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I've been asking for it for...
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: better part of two years now.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: But again, it takes two sides.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know if he's just not willing or if the other teams don't want to do it.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: If they don't want to send those players in the AFC because both those guys are AFC past pressures, you know, I don't know.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: Other than that though, yeah, I would have loved to see some depth on the interior.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: What I will say about the past rush right now is that it's it's getting home like past rush has been pretty good and it's guys stepping up.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: Solomon's gotten in there a little bit the play of Joey Bosa against Kansas City was like
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, prime Joey Bosa other than the one mental gap where he thought that there was a screen leaking out behind him.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: So he turned around.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but if you go back and watch the old 22, I think it looked like my homes was going to roll to his left.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's when Bosa was like, okay, I can't lose the edge.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: I have to contain.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: So if he's going to roll here, I'm going to be right in front of him.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe I can, you know, close the gap.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: Because I will say though that there's been a couple of times this year when Bosa has looks like do what are you doing?
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like you can't be tricked on dumb shit like that, but I digress.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that aside though, he was in the backfield a lot.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: He was making life very difficult.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: Gregory Sowe's getting there.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: We, you know, a lot of guys are getting pressure on the quarterback, which to me is really encouraging.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: It just looks like the defense is finally starting to gel a little bit.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, I think Max Harrison might be a big reason for that, the way that they're able to play in Unison with his ability on the back end.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: I, I, I,
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: Max needs to be like in a full-time starting roll.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like he needs to be taking over here pretty quick.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: I know they're going to rotate around a little bit and stuff like that.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: But, man, he looks like he's got it.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: And watching him turn and run with Xavier worthy.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: I was just like, oh, that is beautiful.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like, thank you.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: We have a guy that can actually keep up that can run with the speed guys down the field when it's required.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a nose for the football like he just looks like he's he's got it.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I still expect You know some rookie moments to happen and there might be the occasional gaff and missed assignment and stuff like that But the juice that he brings the energy the play style the athleticism Keep him out there.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: We need more guys with that ability on the defenses out of the ball I will say to that I feel like how
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: Cole Bishop has progressed the past few weeks with adding Jordan Poir next to him.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think might have made Brandon being a little hesitant to go out and get in a safety.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: because why would you mess up that chemistry and if you look at Poir's frame, he looks like he's a lot leaner than when he was even in Miami last year.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like he looked like he was a little beefy last year and you could tell on his step he had lost a step.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: But what he lacks for in physicality, he makes up for with his IQ.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's great.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to, I'm going to like,
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: I just want to talk about what's going on in the chat.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of people in the chat right now that are complaining that Brendan being didn't make a move.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're upset.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: They're frustrated.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: I get that.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: But some of the things that are being said in the chat to other fans, we have between X, Facebook, and YouTube.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: There's 2,700 people watching, so I can understand emotions are high.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: We talked and talked for weeks and weeks about trying to add players to this roster and Brandon being didn't do so, but please be respectful of other bills fans and please be respectful of my show and be respectful of John who's my guest here every Tuesday.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't want to watch the stream, don't watch the stream.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm perfectly fine with you saying you don't want to watch the stream go elsewhere.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's fine, but I've seen a few comments about why are you doing a show when they didn't do anything.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: Me and John are here Tuesday every every Tuesday at 430 p.m. That's that's what I do.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: It just happens that this week the trade deadline.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to kind of talk about it how we want to talk about it.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to go watch something else, go watch something else.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's fine.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: But I know that all of the media outlets are doing podcasts right.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: So it's something that we want to talk about.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to talk about it.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: Um, let me answer.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: Hold on one second.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: Hold on one second.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: Who said Gabe Davis stepping up?
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: I said he might catch one pass.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like we're talking about him as a depth wide receiver option because he understands the system and provides them with some downfield ability.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like no one's talking about him being a game-changing wide receiver for the bills.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's not shifting this offensive identity.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: No one's saying that.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: Gabe Davis is what he is.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: He's like the fourth or fifth wide receiver on the team at this point.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: He has some chemistry.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: can game game game day of step up.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that might be in.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but either way, I'm not saying game day was as the savior either.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying that Brandon being struck record of familiarity.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: You have a guy that you don't have to trade for you really don't have to get him up to speak.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: He was in Joe Brady system at the end of 23.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: He was injured for a little part of it, but he knows Josh.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: They they even ask even an interview last week when he practiced for the first time.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, I don't need to get to know Josh.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: I already know Josh knows me.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: He knows where I'm going to be.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: I know where he wants to put the ball.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: So it's, you know, that is what it is, but.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, trade deadline came and went.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: The bills didn't do anything.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I do like knowing that being was making phone calls.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's been reported that he's called several teams and querying and a lot of people are mad because he didn't give up draft picks and capital for some of the why I wasn't sold on the crop of wine receivers that was actually available.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: Jacobi Myers, I feel like we already have one of those guys that can run a four, six.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: like, or he'd sure, if you want to say he can take the top off of defense, but the bills don't seem to be operating in that capacity.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I don't know.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: They have two speedsters that they don't run rounds like that.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like we alluded to at the beginning of the show.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: So defensively, I would have liked for them to add some depth, you know, on the line, but Brandon Bean didn't make a move.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: He
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it was just the asking prices were too high and, you know, the bills.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they saved a bunch of money by extending Terran Johnson, but it wasn't a lot.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: It gave the bills $3.3 million in salary cap, which needs to be used to elevate guys all season.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: for the rest of the season.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't see why everybody, like, it's just everybody ran with that hole.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Brian, it means cooking.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: He's up to something, big baller beans, cooking.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, okay, some of these guys would have fit in under the cap with what we have.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: But is it really worth trading future assets for,
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like guys that are just going to be redundant in your offense that that was me with the biggest thing like are you trading away assets to be redundant when you can't figure out how to use key on Coleman properly you're not.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: up until last week, you're not really doing what we've all been saying you should do target Shakir and target concave and hand the ball off to James Cook and that's what the bills did Sunday and it worked.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's what the bills did last week and it worked.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know where else the bills are just going to magically beans going to find all these, you know, all this money and stuff to pay people.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know, man.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, any other thoughts about, you know, about what's going on around the league other than the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, could have made Mike a Parsons instead of making all these trades and getting first just to trade them back just to get a guys that are equally as good as Mike a Parsons.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: The jets are seemingly having a firestorm.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm honestly surprised that
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: the jets didn't trade breeze haul to the the chiefs.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: I've done that brief system that was talked about for like a month that that was like and if you look at pechecos in and out of the line up like I mean I'm not complaining like that's fine with me we saw what they can do only with korean hunt so I don't know you have any other man yeah let's kind of just take like a little you know a few minutes to just look around I think especially in the AFC East in terms of what this means um
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the bills are the bills.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be in the playoffs.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to potentially make a deeper on at it.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the roster, how it is right now is how it is right now.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: And there's not a whole lot that can happen with that of the trade deadline.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: You might have been able to swing something.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: You might have been able to add one guy into the room.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: Some depth, something like that.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: But I think a lot of the frustration really goes back to the off season.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of,
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: what's happening right now with this roster.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think it goes back to beings draft history over the last few years.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: His maybe inability or lack of want to go make a big trade to get like a splash signing on the defenses out of the ball.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like whatever it is, I think there's just been a lot of weight because bills know you have Josh Allen in his prime.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: They know that you have signed guys that you expect to be the core of your team to foreign five-year contracts to be like, this is our window and we need to win in it.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: And it's really hard to balance out patients in long-term, you know, look and cap structure and all of that with this
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: want to win now at all costs.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: You can't really win now at all costs.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like I like the idea, I like the philosophy.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm fine trading those firsts, but you do have to keep an eye on things.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: You have to keep an eye on what the cap is going to be and who's coming up and needing extensions and things like that on the team.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's a very competitive team that the bills have right now.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: I would have liked to see being do more in the off season.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: I've been advocating for like three straight years for being to trade up in the first round to get an actual difference maker instead of sitting tight.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: Although Max Harrison right now looking good so far will wait and see.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: So I think
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: This offseason, we'll see what happens.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see how the season ends, where the bills end up, do they get to the Super Bowl?
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: Do they nod, do they fall short?
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: We start talking about the draft and offseason moves and free agency and stuff like that again.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's going to be all these same conversations about Brandon being not doing enough or his desire to build a contending roster or whatever it is.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's just a lot of frustration for Bill's fans who know that you have an absolute unicorn in Josh Allen and you don't want to waste it.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's just what all of this pretty much comes down to right now.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to put that up and it's probably going to set you off, but you want to have at this one the city and it's fans accept media.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: God.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: The bills of one ninety two games since Sean McDermott's been head coach.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's I think second best in the NFL.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: You want to talk about they haven't won a super bowl fine.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: You can you can lay your hat on that.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't accept mediocrity, I accept reality and I accept the fact that what I saw on Sunday is absolutely can be duplicated and I feel like the bills can do that.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: When you have Sean McDermott calling plays in this defenses as aggressive as they were, that was against an all-world quarterback that looked like he was playing high school football.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: He was uncomfortable all game.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: He did not have more than two or three seconds, any snap to throw the ball.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: And that was coverage that was built breaking up passes.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: That was a pass rush, the bills were aggressive.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I just saw Josh Allen throw for 88% completion percentage.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: And we just laid out earlier in the show how getting concave and Shakira as your primary targets and then sprinkling in the other guys when needed and handing the ball off to James Cook.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's been successful.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's week 10, man.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like what did you want Brandon being to do sell the farm for Chris Olave cool, but are the bills going to use Chris Olave the way that he was used in New Orleans probably not and Brandon being knows that in this system are the bills going to go get Brian Thomas Jr and use him the way that he should be used in Jacksonville probably not.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: And we traded for a married Cooper last year, if you take away the injury, what kind of impact did he ultimately make on this offense?
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: The bills just worked through some stuff and were able to just keep trucking along and improve as the season went.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: So this whole we as bills fans are from Buffalo, just like mediocrity is a loaded shit, man.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like honestly, I don't, I don't want to get upset at you because maybe you're frustrated in the moment.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_00]: But in the moment right now,
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: knowing that I run a Buffalo Bill's brand on social media that has to have a head on swivel refreshing Twitter every five minutes two seconds down to the wire and knowing that I had to post content and I was eager to see you know hopefully the bills make a move but at the end of the day like if you've sitting you think about it this team is good and the AFC is as wide open as it's ever been since Josh Allen's been quarterback we just beat the guy that's typically in his way and they are now two games behind the
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: So keep winning games keep doing what you're doing.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't see a positive from what happened on Sunday as a step in the right direction, then I don't know what to tell you stop watching games.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a couple of things on that point.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: If we accepted mediocrity, we would not have been criticizing this team when they were winning, which we were doing early in the year.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: because we are constantly looking for things that we know that need to be cleaned up for this team to make a deep run at it.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: So, no, we do not accept mediocrity.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Brandon being accepts mediocrity.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: Say, saying that about the team is ass and I, it's just not, it's just not true.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_01]: This is a team that can contend.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: Now, what the bills are running into is you are playing in an era right now
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: Josh Allen might be, I don't know, who would say he's the Patrick Ewing to Patrick my homens being Michael Jordan, like you're just ending the, he's paid men into Tom Brady.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's exactly what it is.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: You have in all world quarterback, but you also happen to have an all world quarterback in Kansas City married to the perfect head coach and the perfect defense coordinator and all of these things.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's really, really unfortunate, but the bills haven't been able to do something that no one else in the AFCs been able to do either, which is stop the chiefs from making a deep playoff run and go and represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's something that seems to happen year and year out.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately, they've got to get past that in order for people to be quiet about it.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: But no one is accepting mediocrity, and this is a team that,
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: By all accounts, we said it before the season started and I'll say it right now.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: This is a team that can get there.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's just going to come down to every game, individual efforts, scheme, making small tweaks.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I've seen this team make small tweaks.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: They have the two game losing streak every single year.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: And we were super pissed off when it was happening because they were playing sloppy.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: And the defense was disjointed and the offense suddenly looks like they couldn't, you know, find a rhythm.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then what we see in the last two weeks is them looking more like the team that was early in the season.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: It looks more in rhythm.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: It looks more
- 36:37[SPEAKER_01]: aggressive.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: It looks more like a team that is playing for a championship and that's the aspiration of this team this year.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: It still is and everything's still right in front of them.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: That man, that late December game in Foxborough, sure is going to be important right now.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and if you aren't optimistic after watching the bill's defense against the chiefs knowing that it's being run by Sean McDermott.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know what to tell you because I'm extremely optimistic, even though
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're not optimistic after watching what the bills just did to Patrick Mahomes, he was hit more than he was ever hit in one single game in his career.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: He was pressured more than even in the Tampa Bay Buck near Super Bowl.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: He was pressured more in that game.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel good knowing that, you know, the bills are, I mean, we go through this, like you said last year, we were all upset.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_00]: They lost the two games.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: being made a move.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it was super impactful.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: I know Cooper maybe warranted some covered sometimes that freed up some other guys to make plays if you wanted to go that route.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's fine.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel like this year and the AFC brand and being looked at the landscape and said, we should be able to do it this year.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: and that nothing's changed from week one other than the standings and if this team gets in the playoffs however they get in there if they if they beat you know the the Patriots here in a few weeks in December and there they're they win the East cool but if they make the playoffs we saw what Josh Allen can do when you're not one or two seed that year that he went nuclear against the Patriots in the chiefs they just got to get in there and I feel like they will.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: And to be six and two and to be complaining that this team, just, we just, we just enjoy mediocrity.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't understand where that would ever come from.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: Would you like to see your team make acquisitions to try to improve the roster?
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: But like I said, we don't know what guys were available.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know what asking prices were.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_00]: We saw other teams that are trying to
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: do basically the same thing that the bills would have done, but they were willing to give up assets that's bills just weren't willing to give up.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_00]: And if the Seattle Seahawks think that they're going to go all in this year, let them, that's fine.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: If there's other teams that think that they're going to go all in this year, let them, that's fine.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_00]: The bills still have, I feel like on paper, the bills have a better team than they had last year.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: And last year was a team where we're like, ah, we don't know what we have, this everyone eats, and they made the AFC championship game.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like this team is better.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think they have better offensive weapons.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think James Cook's progress better than he did.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think Dalton Conquade is progressed better than he was last year.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_00]: We still have an MVP quarterback.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: The offensive line is top three.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: We saw what the defense can do when Sean McDermott really wants to get after it.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm optimistic, man.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like what I have liked to move, sure.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: But at the end of the day,
- 39:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we, we have some guys coming back, you know, from injury and I just feel like if it's not broken, I guess we don't have to throw cogs into the, you know, into the whole thing to try to make it to make the wheel work better.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's my, yeah.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_01]: Elsewhere in the AFCEs, the Patriots did pat as well.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: They made no moves.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: The jets blew it up, burned it to the ground, tore it apart.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: I feel so bad for Brisol, I guess he stuck there.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he wanted out.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of that.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_00]: As soon as he found out that Quinn and Williams was traded, he's like, apparently his agent called and said he wants out now.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: And just like, Barry.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: So, have fun, have fun Jeff locker room this week.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's sure it's going to be a fun one.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: The jets are turned it down.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: They got five first-year-old picks over the next two years.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: They've got a lot of words to do.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously quarterback is going to be a top priority.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: But the 2026 NFL draft as of right now is not being talked about as being some super strong quarterback class where you have a clear cut front runner.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like a Caleb Williams year, Trevor Lawrence year, where you have a guy that has just been paged wire to wire as being
- 40:39[SPEAKER_01]: you know, the clear cut number one overall pick.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's not this year.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_01]: So the jets could be poised to make more moves to all this capital that they have.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_01]: They can go trade for a quarterback.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: Man, if only they had known about Calamaria earlier.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but maybe they're going to move around in the draft.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: You don't know what they're going to do, but maybe this next year is more about
- 41:00[SPEAKER_01]: building the building blocks getting back to the trenches making sure that everything is set and then in 2027 which is looking like a much more talented class at this point, a lot can change.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's the year that they go out and they try to find their quarterback.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_01]: So Jets are a dumpster fire.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be a dumpster fire for at least the next two years.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: The Miami Dolphins traded away.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_01]: Who was it?
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: Was it Philips?
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: Passenger.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah,
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: Other than that, they fielded calls on water apparently, but water's still there.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: Rarely chub, too.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: Apparently, there was a lot of stuff going on with with chub.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I felt like he was going to be dealt, too.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then I put a, I put a, I put a sweet I've seen that gosh, I'm just going to have 29 seconds to throw the ball on Sunday.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_01]: What a nice, unfortunately.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so in the A of CE, all of a sudden it just looks like it's the bills in the Patriots for the immediate future, being the teams that are, you know, poised to really push for it.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: And we said it before the season started, I expected the Patriots to be better.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: They are ahead of schedule in terms of what they are doing this year.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the Patriots are
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like our existing expectations.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the bills went nine and seven.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Patriots are going to finish probably with 10 or 11 wins.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel like new coach, new philosophy, new culture.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: They're just kind of beaten teams here and there.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_00]: They're not really like, wowing any.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: But they should have lost on Sunday.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel like they're the team that everybody said, they're going to be OK. And then now here they are.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: we don't have a little brother to push around in more like they have a legitimate head coach and a legitimate quarterback.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_01]: So that's going to be Drake may is good folks loved him since he took the field at UNC he was the successor to the Sam Howell era and as soon as he got on the field you could tell right away that this kid was was very talented.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so yeah, that's going to be fun.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think that match up in Foxborough obviously is going to carry a lot more weight.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Um, it could be the deciding factor in the AFC East this year.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: Um, it's certainly going to be interesting, but like you said, as long as the bills get into the playoffs, that that's really all that matters.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: Now,
- 43:23[SPEAKER_01]: Everything was set up so beautifully for the bills to run away with the number one overall seed in the AFC.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: And right now they're not that.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: So it's still a possibility.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: They still can make that fight.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think I think deservedly bills fans can feel frustrated about kind of squandering that opportunity.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: But that's still in front of you.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to play good football the rest of the
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: is okay, there's some difficult games on there for sure, but you know, I think it's a it's a schedule that they could finish up with potentially 13 wins wouldn't surprise me and we'll see if if that's enough to get the first for seed.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to yeah, like you said, the last three weeks of the season are going to be very stressful not just for.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_00]: AFC seeding, but the East and I don't think.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: If you look at the Patriot schedule, it's a cakewalk for a while.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, well, they were the fourth seed last year in the division, so they get the four seed matchups elsewhere.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, they get an easy schedule.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_00]: So, but it's, it's going to be interesting.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's why they put the games.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's why it's a 18 week season.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing's decided in week 10.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, again, the last week of the season for the bills is against the jats who just tore it down.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I think there's going to be a lot of scoreboard watching happening in that in that final week.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_00]: The last game that high marks slash rich stretch slash whatever you want the Ralph, whatever you want to call it.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously they're they're bringing out the retro home and so Josh might have to play that entire game because we are all complaining that.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he was going to get it for one snap to continue his streak of consecutive starts and now he might actually get to where like that helmet for in play the entire game so that something to watch there, but let me ask you that.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that Denver Broncos or Los Angeles chargers or some of these other teams that are, you know, on the top of their conferences you think that they're mad that their teams didn't add players today.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm sure that pretty much everyone in the event, all the, all the contenders are feeling exactly the same way that Bill's fans are and it's an unrealistic expectation to be like, oh, they should just go add somebody.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: Be like, oh, like, it's that easy.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to pull off trades.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it's easier than others.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: The big sellers were the jets that are in the division.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're not going to move Quinn and Williams to the bills.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I think last year, I saw something from
- 45:59[SPEAKER_00]: The most trades that have ever happened at the trade deadline was, I think it was either 22 or 2022, just 23 where it was 10 trades last year was 8.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: So we're talking 8 trades between 32 teams.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: And we know the jets already made 2 of those.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, it's not like,
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: It happens where every team's just willing and dealing and, you know, yes, I understand the history of Brandon being he's he's been active like I get that he got we're sold Douglas he got a Murray Cooper he got in the homines I get all that even back in 2017 when he got Kelvin Benjamin I get all that but.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think we need to take a different approach as just being mad at Brendan Bean all the time if he doesn't make a move at the trade deadline.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, right, he doesn't want to do anything.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't have, he doesn't have the guts to make a move.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't want to do this.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_00]: Screw those pigs, blah, blah, blah.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm one of those guys that sometimes I'm like, man, screw those pigs.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, let's, let's go win now.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: But maybe this team, he doesn't, I feel like Bean has like a, he's got like a lever.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_00]: in his office of like, go all in.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like this year's team is not, this year's team is not the levered in and get all the way over to go all in.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: Does that make sense?
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: Because at 4 and 2, he was probably feeling a certain way.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, man, now again, we can't get separation.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, man, I went on WGR and bitched about wider severs and I'm gonna have to e-crow and do all this.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: And now here we are.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_00]: And then the bills had to buy, the bills obviously made adjustments after the buy, score to shit 10 points on the Panthers, scored 28 points on the chiefs and won both games, and the chiefs game wasn't 28, it didn't feel like it was 28 to 21 and it felt like the bills were in control of that entire game.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: May after.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_00]: I take that back when the bills went up after the chiefs were up 10, 7, and the bills scored and then never lost the lead again.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like that was that game was was in hand.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know, being obviously is the guy that we want to give him all the credit in the world when he makes all these great, you know, draft picks and all these trades are free agent acquisitions or does all this stuff.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_00]: When he doesn't do anything on the trade deadline day.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he's a coward and he stinks and firebearing and fire McDermott and it's it's just crazy And I'm I'm just kind of I'm kind of overall that stuff.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just look forward to the Miami Dolphins and hopefully the bills can obliterate them comes on day.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, that'd be nice any other song before we had on him.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: No, I just
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: is what it is.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: What have been nice to see something happen?
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't happen.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: It takes two sides to make a trade.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_01]: Being was making phone calls.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't like the value that was on the table.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like it's kind of as simple as that.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: So this is the team that you got for the rest of the way.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: And it's going to be a hell of a second half of the season.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_01]: Patriots have Tampa Bay this weekend, right?
- 49:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: Huge game.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: And then we get Tampa Bay next week.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, after it.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: So if the bills can win in the, and the Patriots lose, I believe that's af game because they have the, well, no, I guess technically it's still game because they have the head head, but huge.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: It would be huge, not just in the east, but in the AFCs, uh, yeah, because they would have one more loss than the bills would.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_00]: So, correct.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: Do it happens.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so huge, huge second half to go.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a tight race with the Patriots.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, it's more fun that way.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: You want it to be a little bit competitive.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: Although winning the AFC East on December 2nd or whatever was last year's serve was fun, it's not going to be that way this year.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's not going to be that way this year.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_01]: So let's have a good second half.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see this team coming against Miami and just bury them early.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's about it, go bills.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: And if you guys haven't already, thank you for watching, and we have almost 3,400 people watching between X Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube.

- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: You're stuck with these two guys on Tuesday afternoons.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Dave Myers.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's John Helmcam.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_00]: This has been first and five for trade deadline Tuesday as always.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: Go bills.
