- 0:11Speaker 2: Well with us right now, the legend himself, Scott Shannon,
- 0:15Speaker 2: the greatest living DJ. Of course you can hear him
- 0:17Speaker 2: on the True Oldies channel and great to have him
- 0:21Speaker 2: back with us, Scott Shannon, how you doing.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Mark Simone on the Big seven to ten WOR. Hey,
- 0:29Speaker 1: by the way, congratulations on being number one again in
- 0:32Speaker 1: your time slot. You are amazing.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Wow, Well coming from you, that's like Joe Demagio telling
- 0:38Speaker 2: you you're good hitter. Hey, else forgot You're the voice
- 0:41Speaker 2: of the Sean Hannity Show. Everybody recognizes that voice.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Sean Hannity is on right now.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Hey, hey, start with Taylor Swift. How big was this debut,
- 0:53Speaker 2: this album?
- 0:54Speaker 1: Well, it was the biggest news, almost the biggest news
- 0:58Speaker 1: of the weekend. She unleashed her new album, The Life
- 1:03Speaker 1: of a Showgirl, and a lot of critics thought she
- 1:06Speaker 1: run out of gas. I'm not kidding you. I know
- 1:09Speaker 1: people who are students in that world, and they predicted
- 1:13Speaker 1: that she was on the downslope. But it turns out
- 1:17Speaker 1: she's bigger than ever.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Well, she is thirty five, and that like a turning
- 1:21Speaker 2: point for a pop star.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Well supposed to be, but she takes see what happens
- 1:27Speaker 1: in that world of teenagers and fans of some of
- 1:32Speaker 1: the girly kind of stars out there, they move on
- 1:37Speaker 1: to the next whoever is and with Taylor Swift, she
- 1:42Speaker 1: takes her fans with her. Now. I mean, if you
- 1:46Speaker 1: talk to a woman in her thirties, maybe even early forties,
- 1:50Speaker 1: they know who she is, and a lot of them
- 1:52Speaker 1: are big fans, especially if they went to see her
- 1:57Speaker 1: on that big tour. I know, people that had no
- 2:00Speaker 1: love whatsoever for Taylor Swift had to take their kids
- 2:03Speaker 1: or their grandkids to see one of those shows and
- 2:06Speaker 1: they came back a fan.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Now you've known them all, would you say she is
- 2:12Speaker 2: the smartest business wise, marketing wise of all of them.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I gotta tell there's nobody in her category right now.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I mean, you see a lot of these stars that
- 2:23Speaker 1: these young girls, they get out there, they have a
- 2:25Speaker 1: couple of hits, and then they disappear. I mean they
- 2:28Speaker 1: battled to stay, you know, relevant, but it doesn't happen.
- 2:33Speaker 1: She's bigger than ever. I mean, just when they thought
- 2:36Speaker 1: she'd run out of gas. She's bigger than ever. And
- 2:39Speaker 1: on Friday she sold two point seven million albums and
- 2:45Speaker 1: then for the whole weekend. I mean it's over the top.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And on top of that, a lot of people didn't
- 2:51Speaker 1: even know about this. She had the number one movie
- 2:54Speaker 1: and the theaters about that.
- 2:58Speaker 2: It's not just the album. She came out sweaters, shirts
- 3:01Speaker 2: and mittens. I mean, every kind of merchandising all in
- 3:04Speaker 2: one day. It's brilliant, isn't it.
- 3:06Speaker 1: You know the rock thought he was going to make
- 3:08Speaker 1: it big with this new movie is the Smashing Machine.
- 3:12Speaker 1: He got buried. I mean, this is a movie. It's
- 3:16Speaker 1: about eighty minutes long, and it's all about the new album.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And they I mean it was huge. I mean not
- 3:26Speaker 1: just in America, all around the world. People went in
- 3:29Speaker 1: and see them see that thing.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Now, when did you first meet Taylor Swift?
- 3:34Speaker 1: I met her when she was a country singer. Wo
- 3:37Speaker 1: and her dad brought her by PLJ when I was
- 3:41Speaker 1: working there, and they just the record promotion guy wanted
- 3:46Speaker 1: to impress the label and the people that they knew,
- 3:50Speaker 1: you know, stars and Scott and Todd on PLJ. And
- 3:53Speaker 1: she came by and she played this song called Teardrops
- 3:57Speaker 1: on my guitar. Her first hit the country, and she
- 4:05Speaker 1: brought a copyright. I never heard it at that point,
- 4:08Speaker 1: and I asked her dad if we'd be all right
- 4:10Speaker 1: if we play it, and he I thought it was
- 4:14Speaker 1: going to jump up and kiss me, you know, because
- 4:17Speaker 1: no other top forty stations were playing the song at
- 4:20Speaker 1: the time, And so we put it on and later
- 4:23Speaker 1: even added it to the playlist. And that was and
- 4:27Speaker 1: she always stayed in touch since then. Anytime we needed
- 4:31Speaker 1: an interview, she was there. Even when I was working
- 4:34Speaker 1: at CBSFM, she came by. We didn't we don't play
- 4:39Speaker 1: Taylor Swift on that station. She came by and just
- 4:44Speaker 1: wanted to say hi and thank me, and it was
- 4:47Speaker 1: It was great. She's a she's a very special person.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I mean she somehow manages I mean that tour that
- 4:55Speaker 1: she was on. You don't see regular singers and artists
- 4:59Speaker 1: go out there like she did and just nail it
- 5:02Speaker 1: every night. That was a very complicated, uh, behind the
- 5:08Speaker 1: scenes tour to do. I mean, if you have if
- 5:11Speaker 1: you've ever seen a video of it or anything else,
- 5:14Speaker 1: it's highly choreographed and there's people everywhere. You got to
- 5:18Speaker 1: be on your spot. They're coming out of the floor
- 5:21Speaker 1: and it's just and then she did the whole show,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I mean every night, and not just in America, all
- 5:28Speaker 1: around the world. She had bigger She had bigger crowds
- 5:33Speaker 1: in Europe than she did here because they have those
- 5:36Speaker 1: they have the big football stadium that see a lot
- 5:40Speaker 1: more people than than you know, like where the Giants
- 5:43Speaker 1: and the Jets play or try to play.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Well. Hey, Scott Schennon, you know all these football players,
- 5:49Speaker 2: What the hell is the deal? What's the deal with
- 5:50Speaker 2: this Mark Sanchez? What is he? Nuts?
- 5:52Speaker 1: Oh, that's the craziest damn story of the week. I
- 5:56Speaker 1: mean this it's nuts and Indianapolis of all places. I mean,
- 6:03Speaker 1: he's been pretty quiet, by the way. He's pretty good
- 6:06Speaker 1: at what he does. A lot of these jocks convert
- 6:09Speaker 1: to television and they don't make it, you know, they'll
- 6:13Speaker 1: do a year or two and then they suddenly disappear
- 6:15Speaker 1: from CBS or Fox Sports. But this guy's pretty good.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And he was in Indianapolis to call a Raiders Colts game,
- 6:25Speaker 1: and I don't I mean when they first put it
- 6:29Speaker 1: on the news that no, damn idea, what the hell
- 6:33Speaker 1: what happened? Because he was drinking in a bar. They're
- 6:37Speaker 1: a very popular place too. It's a it's a Lawmailler's pub,
- 6:43Speaker 1: and for some reason, I guess it was that after
- 6:46Speaker 1: midnight he went wandering out of the pub and for
- 6:50Speaker 1: some reason he wanted to talk to this truck driver
- 6:54Speaker 1: sixty nine years old, who was there to pick up
- 6:58Speaker 1: the grease from the kitchen of the hotel which is
- 7:02Speaker 1: right next to, right near this pub. And then Mark
- 7:08Speaker 1: decides he's going to be a traffic director and get
- 7:11Speaker 1: out there and tell him he can't park or he's parking,
- 7:13Speaker 1: which he parks there all the time. And the whole
- 7:18Speaker 1: thing evolved into a fight. The guy's sixty nine years old,
- 7:22Speaker 1: which is not old, but it's you know, when you're
- 7:25Speaker 1: six foot two, two hundred and thirty pound X quarterback,
- 7:29Speaker 1: you know that's a little dangerous. And the guy, to
- 7:32Speaker 1: make things worse, he didn't he needs a hearing a
- 7:36Speaker 1: but he didn't have it in because when he's working
- 7:39Speaker 1: it it doesn't work very well, or something like that
- 7:42Speaker 1: his family said. And then there's a picture. Have you
- 7:45Speaker 1: seen the picture in the post today of the guy,
- 7:49Speaker 1: Not of Mark, but of the guy he beat the
- 7:52Speaker 1: crap out of and he's got stitches in his lip,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and it's all over both lips, and he's got a
- 8:00Speaker 1: stitch on the left side of his face. I don't
- 8:03Speaker 1: know how he got and I guess he hit him
- 8:06Speaker 1: in the mouth and it went through his cheeks. And
- 8:10Speaker 1: you know, you don't need to know all that. But
- 8:13Speaker 1: and then they say that he was so he stunk
- 8:16Speaker 1: of alcohol and he was slurring his words and uh.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And the funny thing about it when you first heard it,
- 8:24Speaker 1: when someone says Mark Mark Sanchez got stabbed by a guy.
- 8:30Speaker 1: And then they said the police arrested him, You go, what,
- 8:34Speaker 1: he's the victim, and and he's you know, he's he
- 8:39Speaker 1: was in that. They went to the hospital to arrest him.
- 8:43Speaker 1: They got him on like four or five charges, but
- 8:46Speaker 1: they said he was drinking. He was he was walleyed.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember that or not, that
- 8:51Speaker 1: term walleye when you can't walk straight. And and the
- 8:55Speaker 1: police said when they interviewed him, he didn't remember what happened,
- 9:00Speaker 1: who stabbed him, or even where it happened.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I don't think we'll see him for a while on
- 9:06Speaker 2: any of you.
- 9:07Speaker 1: No, I don't think he's going to be the Fox
- 9:09Speaker 1: hasn't announced it to my knowledge, but I don't know
- 9:13Speaker 1: if he's going to go back on TV. But remember
- 9:16Speaker 1: when he was a super stud, when he was here
- 9:18Speaker 1: in New York playing for the Jets. Hey, yeah, he
- 9:24Speaker 1: dated Kate Upton, that beautiful model, Jamie Lin Sigler. He
- 9:31Speaker 1: was hanging out with her, and he had a long
- 9:33Speaker 1: relationship with Ava Longoria. One of her one of her
- 9:37Speaker 1: boy toys.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Hey, we only have a minute a half left. I
- 9:39Speaker 2: want to ask you, I hate to ask you this,
- 9:41Speaker 2: What's what's going to happen with the New York Yankees?
- 9:43Speaker 1: I got I got a question for you, A simple question.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Do you think anyone has ever been happier to get
- 9:50Speaker 1: the hell out of Canada than the New York Yankees
- 9:54Speaker 1: last night?
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 9:55Speaker 1: But what did his answer? Two games to play, they
- 9:58Speaker 1: were favored to win both of them by the you know,
- 10:01Speaker 1: the baseball experts. And in the two games, the Blue
- 10:05Speaker 1: Jays scored what twenty three runs and the Yankees scored eight.
- 10:11Speaker 2: So what makes you think it'll be any better at
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yankee Stadium?
- 10:14Speaker 1: Well, it's their home turf, and they can't suck that
- 10:18Speaker 1: bad three games in a row. The game three tomorrow
- 10:21Speaker 1: night at Yankee Stadium. They got to win it. They
- 10:24Speaker 1: got a winner. They're done. Yeah, it doesn't look good, no,
- 10:30Speaker 1: but they got a chance. It will probably bounce back.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And I'm not saying they're done. I'm just saying, what
- 10:37Speaker 1: the hell of a way to start a series. But
- 10:40Speaker 1: if you think about it, New York City as a
- 10:42Speaker 1: sports capital of the world. We got two Major League
- 10:45Speaker 1: Baseball teams, one of them didn't even make the postseason,
- 10:49Speaker 1: the others on the brink are going home. We got
- 10:51Speaker 1: two NFL football teams and right now, one of them,
- 10:56Speaker 1: the Jets, can't beat anybody they play. They're owing five.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And the other team just lost to another team that
- 11:03Speaker 1: couldn't beat anybody. Danny couldn't beat anybody till they played
- 11:06Speaker 1: the Giants.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Yeah it's pretty anyway. Well, Hey, tell peop where they
- 11:12Speaker 2: can hear the True Oldies Channel.
- 11:14Speaker 1: True Oldies Channel is on and Blastom the Greatest Hints.
- 11:18Speaker 1: We played, the Beatles of Stones, the Four Seasons of Motown,
- 11:21Speaker 1: the songs that you can't hear anywhere else unless unless
- 11:25Speaker 1: you're paying for him on you know, on satellite. But
- 11:30Speaker 1: you can. You can just talk to your Alexa and
- 11:33Speaker 1: say Alexa played a true oldies channel. Or you can
- 11:36Speaker 1: hear us on ninety two three FM HD three which
- 11:41Speaker 1: is loud and clear. Or I just go to Scott
- 11:44Speaker 1: Channon dot com gives you all the directions right there. Yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 1: have a great week of radio broadcast singing.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Scott Channon will do it again soon, the legend himself,
- 11:53Speaker 2: thanks for being with.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Us number one mark themone Yes a ree, I.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Take care the great Scott Shannon. Hey, don't forget Buck
- 12:02Speaker 2: and Clay, excellent show every day at noon. Then you
- 12:04Speaker 2: got the most listened to radio show in America. Sean
