- 0:18Speaker 1: Return to Glory podcast Hunter's Darby Austin Rose, Dakota Free Tech.
- 0:24Speaker 1: It's officially weak zero boys Kansas State, Iowa State kicking
- 0:31Speaker 1: off in Ireland on Saturday. College football is here.
- 0:43Speaker 2: How do you guys feel about Week zero games?
- 0:45Speaker 3: I love it.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I like him because football is here.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I mean, there's not much to it, and honestly, iron
- 0:55Speaker 3: the Ireland game has been good every time except for
- 0:58Speaker 3: one game was bad. But I think been great games
- 1:03Speaker 3: all right, maybe not maybe not the very first one, but.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I could tell you who played last year.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Who was it? Oh, it was great. Georgia Tech, Florida State.
- 1:13Speaker 2: That's right, the fall of Florida State.
- 1:21Speaker 3: I have other games on two, but that's that's the
- 1:23Speaker 3: main headliner right there. There's nothing.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You have one big one.
- 1:26Speaker 4: It's Case State Iowa State this year.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I mean a little bit close to home, so have
- 1:31Speaker 1: a little bit of interest there watching that. And then
- 1:34Speaker 1: we get to game week next week, and we'll have
- 1:37Speaker 1: a full preview on Cincinnati next Monday. We're gonna bring
- 1:41Speaker 1: on a Okay State fan here on Thursday to preview
- 1:45Speaker 1: k State is upcoming week, and then we're we are go.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Time for the undefeated twelve to zero Huskers.
- 1:57Speaker 2: A little bit of Husker hype in the national media
- 1:59Speaker 2: this week. MF you guys followed, but there were a
- 2:01Speaker 2: couple of I saw pet I can't even his first
- 2:07Speaker 2: name is, Josh Bate.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Josh Pate, have us go to the college football playoffs?
- 2:14Speaker 2: And Bruce Feldman, how will Nebraska take as well? So
- 2:20Speaker 2: you know, the classic even Joel Klatt talked about as
- 2:28Speaker 2: a potential Indiana like season.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Joel, Joel just loves us, and of course you do
- 2:36Speaker 1: it because all of us.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Fans, we just eat it and eat it and eat it.
- 2:40Speaker 1: We love it and drink it and drink it. And
- 2:43Speaker 1: especially when we get closer to the years, it feels
- 2:46Speaker 1: like we're just talking. There. Maybe not a whole lot
- 2:49Speaker 1: of news this week, like we did. We're just waiting
- 2:51Speaker 1: for some actual action on the field. The big news,
- 2:55Speaker 1: I guess over the last few days was a couple
- 2:58Speaker 1: of things. One see, digit jerseys have been finalized same
- 3:05Speaker 1: ratio as last year on the defensive offensive ratio, which
- 3:10Speaker 1: as I started looking at it, I was, I guess
- 3:13Speaker 1: that makes sense. Well, you can't put offensive linement on
- 3:16Speaker 1: there because of numbers. To keep that in mind and
- 3:19Speaker 1: that probably makes sense. But then yeah, the three wide
- 3:22Speaker 1: receivers on the offensive side of the ball, and then
- 3:26Speaker 1: the rest are defensive players. What do we think of
- 3:29Speaker 1: the single digit jerseys? It's year three of doing it.
- 3:33Speaker 1: How do we feel about it?
- 3:39Speaker 2: So one, I guess first comment, I'm assuming Dylan turned
- 3:41Speaker 2: it down because he wants number fifteen.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Probably I.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Think that's good for the team, that he his.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Opinion or his thought is above the pro the team
- 4:00Speaker 1: and what they want to do that or.
- 4:01Speaker 2: It could be you know, like, hey, I know I'm
- 4:05Speaker 2: a leader, but I want other people to recognize as
- 4:07Speaker 2: a leader so that you know they're I.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Mean, that's how he probably framed it, which is the
- 4:12Speaker 1: best way of framing it. But it's supposed to be
- 4:17Speaker 1: the toughest I think is what they initially said, like
- 4:20Speaker 1: the toughest people on the field basically, which makes sense
- 4:24Speaker 1: why a lot of them are defenders. Offative lineman can't
- 4:28Speaker 1: be on there, so that piece kind of makes sense.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I will say this, it's resonating more this year than
- 4:36Speaker 1: the old black Shirts kind of have.
- 4:40Speaker 4: So I don't know how some of the old timers
- 4:42Speaker 4: feel about that.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Are the black shirt stuff is it is still around
- 4:45Speaker 1: and it's still going to be there, which we'll get
- 4:46Speaker 1: to that here in a second on true black shirts.
- 4:50Speaker 1: But I don't know, I think it's good. I think
- 4:53Speaker 1: it's something different. It's I don't know. I guess you're
- 5:02Speaker 1: rewarding guys for their leadership, but slash guys that would
- 5:07Speaker 1: just want to fly with their heads cut off, Like you,
- 5:10Speaker 1: you want those kind of guys, especially on the defensive
- 5:12Speaker 1: side and offensively to get one of those, you know,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I think it means something. We got.
- 5:17Speaker 4: We got three receivers on it.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Archie Wilson did not get a single digit, so not
- 5:25Speaker 1: yet give it a year.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I will say, I don't know. I mean, I never
- 5:31Speaker 2: played a number of sport in high school. Like I'm
- 5:34Speaker 2: assuming that the single digits are the most desirable numbers
- 5:36Speaker 2: to have.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I mean, not really, I kind of, but not really.
- 5:40Speaker 3: I mean.
- 5:42Speaker 4: I think as you're a kid, you probably want those.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I don't know, I think they're just that's what they
- 5:48Speaker 1: classified as their thing. Dak you like.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Them, Yeah, I guess it's it just basically highlights the
- 5:56Speaker 3: impact players like supposed to be during the year. And
- 6:00Speaker 3: it feels like to me at least that it's like
- 6:03Speaker 3: you're your motivators. I guess on the team basically, Yeah,
- 6:09Speaker 3: is the way I pick it up. It's like you're
- 6:11Speaker 3: say someone's not doing their job whatever, these guys will
- 6:14Speaker 3: get after you. That's that's the way I think.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I mean, most of them are seniors except for Bernie
- 6:21Speaker 2: and shavers Am.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I right, yeah, pretty close. Bonner's not a senior, I
- 6:29Speaker 1: don't think, is right, he's a junior.
- 6:32Speaker 2: You're right.
- 6:32Speaker 4: I do think a lot of them like it's motivators.
- 6:37Speaker 1: It's also a kind of a way to name captains
- 6:42Speaker 1: without naming them captains, like in a way of that
- 6:45Speaker 1: like it's kind of allowing more people to do that.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And I think, if I remember right, rule has rotated
- 6:53Speaker 1: the actual captain spots at times that for the game.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I think, you know, you can have four or whatever
- 7:01Speaker 1: that come out. You know, you expect Dylan to be
- 7:04Speaker 1: probably one of those, and maybe consistently Dylan be one
- 7:06Speaker 1: of those. I'm not sure, but that to means another
- 7:09Speaker 1: way of looking at it, I agree.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. It's it's fine if that's what
- 7:18Speaker 2: works for them, great. Eventually, if you were to do
- 7:21Speaker 2: this as a program for the entirety of your existence,
- 7:23Speaker 2: you run out of numbers because they'd be.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Retired the actould Oklahoma do it?
- 7:31Speaker 3: No? Okay, no, they first off, first time, you can
- 7:37Speaker 3: get better on the field before you start doing that.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Oh, Nebraska's good enough to do it.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Recently for there. I mean, they just made a bowl games.
- 7:47Speaker 3: That's the big news right there.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yep.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Uh.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Second big news that came out was the blackout that's
- 7:58Speaker 1: happening on November first, I believe against USC big old
- 8:05Speaker 1: promo video jersey release. Couldn't we put the black shirt
- 8:10Speaker 1: logo on the helmet swelling crossbone instead of the end.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I think that then people probably would complain about the
- 8:17Speaker 1: offense and not getting who gana probably wouldn't like it.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Who cares the black end was dumb?
- 8:27Speaker 1: I hope. I mean, I think everybody hopes that that
- 8:30Speaker 1: becomes a night game, but Big Ten can probably really
- 8:34Speaker 1: I mean at the Big Ten as any sort of
- 8:37Speaker 1: appreciation for Nebraska with all this announcement, they will make
- 8:41Speaker 1: it a night game regardless of some records. Yes, but.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Just watch it be an eleven am game.
- 8:51Speaker 1: But it won't happen.
- 8:52Speaker 3: It won't not even look as near as close as game.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Now, the question is is how good are people going
- 9:01Speaker 2: to be at the blackout. I have little faith in
- 9:03Speaker 2: the older generation, who are mostly the season ticket holders.
- 9:06Speaker 1: It will be good this year because they announced it
- 9:09Speaker 1: now and early. That's that's why we've tried to do blackouts,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and basketball has tried to do whatever else. They don't
- 9:16Speaker 1: announce it and get it out and publicized to everybody
- 9:21Speaker 1: with their generation. Now we're talking about it. We haven't
- 9:25Speaker 1: played a game yet, and throughout the year people will
- 9:28Speaker 1: just say, like especially the game could be a bigger game,
- 9:31Speaker 1: implications for the end of the year. But at the
- 9:34Speaker 1: same time, it's out there now. That's why I think
- 9:36Speaker 1: it'll be good. And I think if it's not, and
- 9:38Speaker 1: they have a feeling about it, they are going to
- 9:40Speaker 1: do some sort of T shirts something, and there'll be
- 9:45Speaker 1: T shirts anyways, but on the chairs, like, I don't
- 9:47Speaker 1: think I do it for ninety eighty five thousand fans,
- 9:50Speaker 1: but like I think they, I think it will be
- 9:53Speaker 1: good this time, and that game will only make it better.
- 9:57Speaker 2: See. My one concern is it's a November game, so
- 10:03Speaker 2: when it gets cold, people start it's like, well, I
- 10:06Speaker 2: don't have a black coat. I guess I'll just wear.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Well I will say this, what's kind of funny. As
- 10:14Speaker 1: it gets colder, there becomes less red because people don't
- 10:19Speaker 1: have red coats. That's true, not the prior, more that black.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But you're right, if you don't have a black coat,
- 10:26Speaker 1: you're probably not gonna go buy a black coat just
- 10:28Speaker 1: for the game. Like the Iowa games have a lot
- 10:35Speaker 1: more black speckled and gray speckled in there then in
- 10:39Speaker 1: your early red game.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I mean, we we all know why they're wearing black
- 10:43Speaker 3: right for that game, Lincoln Right's last game, the Funeral. Yeah,
- 10:49Speaker 3: that's a funeral. No. I saw one take about it.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Someone was mad about it that it was this is
- 10:58Speaker 3: like a classic helmet match up up and they're pissed
- 11:00Speaker 3: about changing jury's. After that, I was like, I don't.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I don't see Nebraska versus US as a classic classic
- 11:09Speaker 3: matchup Jersey wise.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I will say I think both programs are two that
- 11:16Speaker 1: probably do the least alternate type of like yeah, everybody,
- 11:20Speaker 1: we we don't. We don't vary much from even our
- 11:22Speaker 1: alternates in the past have just been like a little change.
- 11:24Speaker 4: We're like, oh that's cool, Like.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Except for those one I can't rememb it how long
- 11:31Speaker 3: ago it was Oh, they're they're horrible. It was like
- 11:34Speaker 3: the I can't even I think it was trying to
- 11:43Speaker 3: drive dress up as like old the old time football.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Players like Stream and the Yeah, yeah, I didn't mind those.
- 11:52Speaker 3: I did not like them.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah, here's where we got planned for you today. Oh
- 12:00Speaker 1: of aall scrimmage to better mention that. But the cool
- 12:03Speaker 1: idea like the current Huskers won three to one. Played
- 12:07Speaker 1: some alumni I put in, they were a little feisty early,
- 12:12Speaker 1: and they I mean they should I feel like they
- 12:13Speaker 1: should be like they add they have a lot of
- 12:16Speaker 1: talent there. But I thought it was a really good idea,
- 12:18Speaker 1: Like volleyball is once for I guess baseball you could
- 12:20Speaker 1: do it. I feel like basketball football like it would
- 12:25Speaker 1: be kind of tough because you've got to be in
- 12:27Speaker 1: pretty I mean volleyball two, you got to be in
- 12:29Speaker 1: good athletic shape. But especially like basketball and football, even
- 12:33Speaker 1: soccer like you are, you're needing to be able to
- 12:37Speaker 1: physically hold your one. And so I have a good idea.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Whoever came up with that drew some attention, drew a
- 12:45Speaker 1: good crowd.
- 12:48Speaker 3: To be honest, you wouldn't have enough players to play
- 12:50Speaker 3: on that football game the other side, they'd be out
- 12:55Speaker 3: by half.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I don't know. You can get some nineteen ninety five
- 13:00Speaker 1: guys in there right now.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Okay, So yeah, Osbourne, I think was that practice the
- 13:06Speaker 3: other day? He is looking tough.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Every every bit at age ninety two or whatever he is.
- 13:14Speaker 3: I didn't look at his age. I didn't know he
- 13:15Speaker 3: was ninety two, but he.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Looks ninety two. He's probably eighty nine. Yeah, he made
- 13:21Speaker 1: Frank look young. And Frank's not young.
- 13:25Speaker 2: He's eighty eight.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Jeez man, why does he look like it? Okay, here's
- 13:33Speaker 1: what we're doing rest of the episode. Our first official
- 13:38Speaker 1: fan mail bag question. So, Alice is gonna work. I'm
- 13:42Speaker 1: gonna we have fifteen questions submitted by random listeners from
- 13:46Speaker 1: around the the actress area, and we are going to
- 13:52Speaker 1: ask the question and we're going to discuss it. Pretty
- 13:55Speaker 1: simple topic we have. There's some there's some good submissions,
- 13:58Speaker 1: some some fun ones, there's some serious ones, there's some
- 14:01Speaker 1: frustrating ones. So we'll start with Brad from Why More
- 14:09Speaker 1: and he says, Dylan Royola gonna live up to the
- 14:12Speaker 1: hype or are we about to crown another freshman before
- 14:15Speaker 1: he's even taken a snap, which Brad, you're you're you're
- 14:18Speaker 1: a year off. But if if we want to go,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you know about sophomore season, Okay, the hype is still there,
- 14:28Speaker 1: and probably even more on Dylan where we've seen Heisman hype,
- 14:34Speaker 1: we've seen just the leadership in general for Dylan from Dylan,
- 14:40Speaker 1: like the expectations there. What do we think Dylan Royol hype?
- 14:45Speaker 1: Yes or no? Is he gonna?
- 14:46Speaker 4: Is he gonna do it this year?
- 14:51Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean if he performs like you did last year,
- 14:58Speaker 1: we would all be disappointed. But I think we all
- 15:00Speaker 1: last year that it was an okay season.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Hmm. Do I think what?
- 15:05Speaker 3: I guess?
- 15:06Speaker 1: I don't really know what the Delanaril hype is this year.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I don't know what the expectations are.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I don't think anyone has him like. I think the
- 15:14Speaker 1: hype is that he could be really damn good if
- 15:17Speaker 1: he breaks out and could be a Heisman guy and
- 15:19Speaker 1: take us to eleven and one.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yeah, but the hype is he could I don't like
- 15:27Speaker 2: this anyways, Like Dylan, this is your Delanaril breaks out,
- 15:30Speaker 2: but they're like, oh, this could be the your Delanil
- 15:32Speaker 2: it breaks out.
- 15:33Speaker 1: I think there's already kind of a butt built into
- 15:35Speaker 1: the hype. The hype with Dana's offense and clicking got
- 15:39Speaker 1: some receivers.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's what I was gonna say, was the hype.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I feel like it's coming from another or year. At
- 15:47Speaker 3: least enter Dana. You at least have a set offense now.
- 15:53Speaker 3: And quarterbacks. I feel like quarterbacks get you're a good
- 15:57Speaker 3: quarterback get a lot better after you have a year
- 15:59Speaker 3: under the oh see it helps out a lot that part.
- 16:06Speaker 3: And and he's lost weight, like Hungerson begging him.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Too, damn right, we didn't want him to dick.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Nope, I know, I'm kidding. He needed to lose weight bad.
- 16:18Speaker 1: You do like fat people.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Whatever his heisman odds.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I don't.
- 16:27Speaker 4: I mean, I'm guessing the probably a little bit inflated here.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I I think it's I think the hype. And here's what.
- 16:36Speaker 4: I think with Dylan.
- 16:37Speaker 1: If Dylan pops and goes above the expectations this year,
- 16:45Speaker 1: and maybe maybe I'm wrong on this take, I don't
- 16:48Speaker 1: think that directly means we are ten and two, eleven
- 16:54Speaker 1: and one, Like I now, it's a big piece of it,
- 16:57Speaker 1: don't get me wrong, but I think our defense still
- 17:00Speaker 1: has to come around with it. I also think that
- 17:03Speaker 1: the offensive line has to which if he pops, I
- 17:07Speaker 1: means their offensive line is probably doing their job well enough.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I do think there's other factors there. Special teams has
- 17:15Speaker 1: to improve for us to record wise be really really good.
- 17:19Speaker 4: But I think that's the hype, right.
- 17:20Speaker 1: If everything pieces together and it starts with Dylan being
- 17:24Speaker 1: the five star recruit, that could be. Yeah, the season
- 17:29Speaker 1: could go really well. I don't know that it's all
- 17:32Speaker 1: dependent on that though.
- 17:33Speaker 2: He's sixty to one Heisman odds, which is, you know,
- 17:37Speaker 2: still behind Archie Wilson at fifty to one.
- 17:39Speaker 1: So okay, next question we're going to We're gonna do
- 17:52Speaker 1: a quick one here. Derek from Courtland, who's actually getting
- 17:58Speaker 1: the first carry against Nat.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Do we do we? Okay?
- 18:06Speaker 1: He said, do we do that thing where we're gonna
- 18:08Speaker 1: rotate five guys and nobody ever finds the rhythm at
- 18:10Speaker 1: running back?
- 18:13Speaker 2: Emma Johnson?
- 18:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think we all can answer that.
- 18:16Speaker 1: On three, Emma Johnson get the first carry. But let's
- 18:20Speaker 1: go to the second part of the question. I think,
- 18:24Speaker 1: what do we think the running back situation is going
- 18:26Speaker 1: to be like this year?
- 18:27Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be fifty to be chopped up
- 18:30Speaker 2: by the other three Quentin Moozie and oh the guy
- 18:38Speaker 2: from training camp, Baron Parker.
- 18:40Speaker 3: There you go, Yes, yeah, it won't be. It won't
- 18:45Speaker 3: be running back as committee this year. I think I
- 18:48Speaker 3: think it's more it's for sure got starting John and
- 18:51Speaker 3: the other three are gonna fight for that backup number
- 18:54Speaker 3: two spot.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I tend to agree. I I don't think it's gonna
- 19:03Speaker 1: be completely split, you know. I think some people think
- 19:07Speaker 1: it's gonna be ninety em Like he might just be
- 19:10Speaker 1: a bell cow. I I just think that's trend is
- 19:13Speaker 1: going away in all football. I just you see it
- 19:16Speaker 1: less and less because you have one other commitments or
- 19:22Speaker 1: other other guys that are that are good enough to play,
- 19:24Speaker 1: and you want to keep your running backs fresh and
- 19:25Speaker 1: healthy to get the extra yardage. I think a lot
- 19:27Speaker 1: of it is going to come down to guys. We've
- 19:29Speaker 1: said it before. Who can who can make three year
- 19:32Speaker 1: yards turn into seven? Who can make a nine yard
- 19:34Speaker 1: game turn into forty?
- 19:35Speaker 2: Who?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Who are Who's going to do that? And if Emmitt's
- 19:37Speaker 1: that guy that can and nobody else can, He's probably
- 19:41Speaker 1: gonna play a lot more. I think that's what they're
- 19:43Speaker 1: looking for this year from a running back standpoint on
- 19:47Speaker 1: the offensive side, easy question. Next, All right, let's go
- 19:58Speaker 1: stay on the offenses. Go Meghan in Adams, She asked,
- 20:01Speaker 1: which receiver stepping up is Ryola's guy? Is it gonna
- 20:07Speaker 1: be somebody better? Because I'm tired of watching his complete
- 20:09Speaker 1: three yard outs on third and twelve.
- 20:11Speaker 4: I think he Scott rust Uh, Dame Key is the
- 20:18Speaker 4: obvious answer.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Do we wanna? Do we wanna?
- 20:21Speaker 2: I don't know. Is it that obvious?
- 20:23Speaker 1: Is it? That's where I would go?
- 20:26Speaker 2: He's got he has a whole other year of reps
- 20:28Speaker 2: with Jacory.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll see you bring on Jakory.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I just I don't know. I just really like Jacory.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I think.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I think where he falls in Dana's offense.
- 20:43Speaker 2: You know, kind of the middle of the field guy.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I think I just think Dylan's gonna find him a lot.
- 20:49Speaker 2: I don't think he's gonna have those big downfield passes,
- 20:53Speaker 2: but as far as frequency of targets, I feel pretty
- 20:59Speaker 2: good about Jacory.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Yeah. I was thinking more to Cory too, just because
- 21:05Speaker 3: I think you can use him different in a lot
- 21:08Speaker 3: of different ways too. Jet sweeps and.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I guess in my mind. I for one, for the
- 21:18Speaker 1: first time in a long time, I'm I'm and this
- 21:20Speaker 1: is maybe whole aid drinking. I think Dame Key could
- 21:24Speaker 1: be a guy that gets eight to ten targets a
- 21:26Speaker 1: game and be like you. And maybe it's because he's
- 21:30Speaker 1: the only senior everybody else is so young, but basically
- 21:33Speaker 1: be the guy that no, he's go to, Like third down,
- 21:36Speaker 1: We're going to Dame Key because he's both physically and
- 21:42Speaker 1: quickness wise able to get open. He's a target you
- 21:44Speaker 1: can throw the ball to and go op and get
- 21:46Speaker 1: it like. I think that's how I'm picturing him more
- 21:50Speaker 1: more so. And then Ja Corey is still your slot guy.
- 21:52Speaker 1: He's still gonna a lot of touches too. And then
- 21:54Speaker 1: you know Isaiah Hunters there's I think, probably more of
- 21:59Speaker 1: a speed guy. He's still young, bonners, impressed people so
- 22:05Speaker 1: and tight ends like who knows.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Who knows he could be the guy?
- 22:11Speaker 1: Hey, yeah, I don't know if Corey might be might
- 22:13Speaker 1: be the right answer. I would.
- 22:14Speaker 4: I would go dating Key.
- 22:16Speaker 2: I feel like those only two.
- 22:18Speaker 3: That you're really this year. Hunter, your line is gonna rock.
- 22:24Speaker 3: What you're really bringing the kool aid this year? You're
- 22:27Speaker 3: big on the old line, you're huge.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Hey, I'm I'm I'm I'm closetly drinking the kool aid.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I don't want to say it. I don't want to
- 22:36Speaker 1: actually say those words. But let's see here we go.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Going back to the last week's episode, Mike from Blue
- 22:46Speaker 1: Springs Special Teams dot dot dot dot dot. Is this
- 22:50Speaker 1: finally the year? Are we gonna once again miss chip
- 22:53Speaker 1: shotfield goals and muff punts? I'm sick of losing games
- 22:58Speaker 1: on this stuff that even high school teams get.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I like that last comic because it's true, Like some
- 23:03Speaker 1: of the stuff that we do, your your your bad
- 23:06Speaker 1: snaps like that we've had over the past several years.
- 23:10Speaker 1: The catching punts inside the five yard line or kicks
- 23:14Speaker 1: inside the five yard line and running out of bounds. Yeah, like,
- 23:19Speaker 1: come on, We're Nebraska. Why why are we doing that stuff?
- 23:24Speaker 1: We talked about it before that. Yes, another kool Aid.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Just trust in Eckler, trust in trust in the longest
- 23:36Speaker 1: Special Teams Coach interview of the year, as Dak said,
- 23:39Speaker 1: like trusting that guy. I think it can get worse,
- 23:42Speaker 1: but don't be surprised. In my mind if there are
- 23:45Speaker 1: still some bumps and bruises along the way. I really
- 23:50Speaker 1: don't think.
- 23:50Speaker 2: I don't think Special Team is gonna lose his games
- 23:52Speaker 2: this year, though, I'm gonna say it's gonna lose us
- 23:55Speaker 2: one somewhere and we're all gonna throw a fit.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I don't know where.
- 24:00Speaker 2: It just requires so many things to go wrong for
- 24:02Speaker 2: Special Teams to lose you a game, and we I mean,
- 24:06Speaker 2: and we've done it so many times. There's no way
- 24:09Speaker 2: with the emphasis put on it this year that it
- 24:12Speaker 2: happens right.
- 24:15Speaker 3: I feel like the punning game you have a lot
- 24:17Speaker 3: of comments in but when Drew when not Drew Brown?
- 24:20Speaker 3: When whenever your kicker runs out there?
- 24:23Speaker 1: Why did you say Drew Brown?
- 24:25Speaker 3: I don't know why I'm dead saying your kick Is're
- 24:27Speaker 3: gonna ask you last week? Is he anyway?
- 24:29Speaker 1: That was like that wasn't even like a couple of
- 24:31Speaker 1: years ago, last several years, John Hole.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Yeah, when he runs out there, there's I feel like
- 24:38Speaker 3: there's not still on recent commenty he's gonna make a kick.
- 24:43Speaker 2: I feel like by the end of the year though,
- 24:44Speaker 2: I feel like he really started to click. And then
- 24:46Speaker 2: you have a whole other year and he came in
- 24:48Speaker 2: as see a true person.
- 24:50Speaker 1: That a hoss's I think it's gonna be in and
- 24:53Speaker 1: I think he's gonna be our kicker.
- 24:55Speaker 2: But oh, okay, I just think.
- 24:57Speaker 1: It's Eckler coming in and it's it's it was an
- 25:01Speaker 1: open battle and Eckler's not going to play zero zero
- 25:03Speaker 1: emphasim last year. And I don't think reals touching it.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I don't. I think it's Elers Eckler's baby, and I
- 25:09Speaker 1: think he brought in a guy that he wanted to
- 25:12Speaker 1: kick for him. That's why I think it'll be Kyle kenated.
- 25:14Speaker 1: But hm hmm, okay, I think it's healthy competition. I
- 25:21Speaker 1: I yeah, I think special teams hope hopefully doesn't. But
- 25:25Speaker 1: I think it still could cause us a game. I
- 25:29Speaker 1: think it shouldn't win us a game too well, and
- 25:33Speaker 1: maybe it could win us the game. How about how
- 25:35Speaker 1: abouthitting the game winning field goal? Way we I guess
- 25:37Speaker 1: we did that against Northwestern?
- 25:41Speaker 3: Exciting game. Yeah, I don't think. Do you like, do
- 25:47Speaker 3: you have three kickers battling right now? Is that is
- 25:50Speaker 3: that a good sign you think?
- 25:51Speaker 1: Or I'm really too.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Chris Nevadas, I mean he's.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Still there, probably, But I I kicker is one of
- 26:01Speaker 1: those things I mean, it's a battle, right who gets
- 26:03Speaker 1: the first kick, but like, whoever it is goes in
- 26:06Speaker 1: and they if they missed two of their first three, like,
- 26:11Speaker 1: you're probably moving on to the other guy, and then
- 26:13Speaker 1: the other guy, the guy that just got booted probably
- 26:15Speaker 1: is gonna get another chance at some point too.
- 26:17Speaker 4: I think that's okay. It's from kicking standpoint.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Now, there is a rhythm thing, and obviously if John
- 26:23Speaker 1: hole starting and gets in a rhythm, he's gonna keep rolling.
- 26:26Speaker 1: And if he just misses one, I don't think that
- 26:30Speaker 1: Eckler's gonna say you suck, You're out.
- 26:32Speaker 4: I don't think that's the case.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Now. If it's like the one he misses as a
- 26:35Speaker 1: game winner early in the year, that could be tough.
- 26:39Speaker 2: But John did hit the fifty some year ear last year.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't. I think kickers it's good to dry.
- 26:51Speaker 3: As a Vikings fan, I have learned this from experience,
- 26:53Speaker 3: it's good to have multiple that you can pull because
- 26:55Speaker 3: they go mentally shot real quick and then you're screwed.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Uh.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Let's go to Travis from de Witt mentioned the old line.
- 27:06Speaker 1: He says, are we finally gonna have an O line
- 27:09Speaker 1: that doesn't get shoved around like folding chairs. Every year
- 27:13Speaker 1: it's the same promise, we're stronger, we're deeper, and then
- 27:17Speaker 1: we get bullied in week one.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I feel I don't know. I didn't feel like we
- 27:29Speaker 2: got pushed around last year. I pheel I feel like
- 27:32Speaker 2: the answer would be no, we will not have a
- 27:34Speaker 2: line gon push around like bolding chairs. I think there
- 27:37Speaker 2: will be games where it struggles, but I expect the
- 27:42Speaker 2: offense might be a net positive.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Which your game, first game on the schedule, you think
- 27:47Speaker 1: that will come out of the out of the season.
- 27:49Speaker 1: If any going, damn our line did not look as
- 27:54Speaker 1: good as we thought.
- 27:55Speaker 2: I'm gonna say Michigan because I remember a couple of
- 27:57Speaker 2: years ago when we played Michigan. It's like, oh shit,
- 28:00Speaker 2: like we are not Michigan level athletes there because they
- 28:04Speaker 2: got destroyed.
- 28:06Speaker 3: I always feel like game one for every team, the
- 28:08Speaker 3: online struggles the most because I don't know what. There's
- 28:12Speaker 3: just a lot of holding penalties and fall starts. Your
- 28:14Speaker 3: first game of the year, I feel like, So I
- 28:16Speaker 3: don't think it'll be game one. Yeah, by that Michigan game,
- 28:21Speaker 3: that's a good one because then you have two.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Wait, so it's game one. We are going to struggle.
- 28:27Speaker 1: We're not going to struggle.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Struggle. I think the holding of false like penalty dumb penalties.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Okay, so you're you're saying game one, yep, Okay. I
- 28:38Speaker 1: don't know, hopefully never. I do think depth wise, we
- 28:44Speaker 1: talked about that on the op Intive preview episode, could
- 28:49Speaker 1: be deeper this year, just more guys with maybe some experience.
- 28:51Speaker 1: But I also think we said that every year, but
- 28:53Speaker 1: the guys with experience have all been the same guys
- 28:57Speaker 1: we've had, which that have all been very average, below
- 29:01Speaker 1: average offensive lineman.
- 29:02Speaker 4: And a couple of those guys first year.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I mean a lot of these guys are you're you know,
- 29:07Speaker 2: this is Donnie's fourth year, so this is this is
- 29:11Speaker 2: the the seniors have been all four years with Donnie,
- 29:13Speaker 2: and they're kind of Donnie's guys.
- 29:16Speaker 1: And some of those guys are taking a back seat
- 29:20Speaker 1: to incoming people. So I did hear. I thought this
- 29:25Speaker 1: was an interesting On one of the national podcasts I
- 29:28Speaker 1: listened to when they were talking about Alabama specifically, they're
- 29:35Speaker 1: mentioning the people that left and came in, and they
- 29:38Speaker 1: mentioned Elijah Purchett leaving and they basically said he sucks
- 29:41Speaker 1: don't know why Nebraska even wanted him. They said, I
- 29:44Speaker 1: don't even think he will help Nebraska. I thought that
- 29:46Speaker 1: was interesting from a national side. I don't know anything
- 29:51Speaker 1: about Elijah Purchett, right, no, nothing. He didn't watch him
- 29:53Speaker 1: play the Alabama last year. No, no, nothing. Right for
- 29:59Speaker 1: a national guy to say that, what all we've heard
- 30:02Speaker 1: is he's an Alabama guy. This is great, we got
- 30:04Speaker 1: an Alabama transfer. That's the perception that we have on it. Now.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Might make sense that there's a chance he doesn't roll
- 30:10Speaker 1: out we want as a starter. Like then that might
- 30:13Speaker 1: be kind of what the word is.
- 30:15Speaker 2: He's not gonna be. He might not might probably not
- 30:18Speaker 2: be a weak one starter.
- 30:20Speaker 1: We paid him.
- 30:20Speaker 2: But also say, you know how many national guys that
- 30:24Speaker 2: are actual national guys are watching the Alabama offensive lineman
- 30:30Speaker 2: who is not like a backup lineman at offense at Alabama.
- 30:34Speaker 1: You know, I don't know. I just trust that they
- 30:38Speaker 1: probably do that. I mean, they do it for a
- 30:39Speaker 1: full time job, so maybe they know a little bit
- 30:42Speaker 1: about it. But I don't know.
- 30:43Speaker 2: That's pretty presumptuous to be like, ah, yeah, I know
- 30:46Speaker 2: this this guy, the backup left tackle at Alabama. He
- 30:50Speaker 2: sucks I'm not saying they're wrong, but I've only skeptical
- 30:57Speaker 2: when someone's like this guy sucks, don't know I one,
- 31:00Speaker 2: and when it's yeah, but he's like, I mean he
- 31:04Speaker 2: has played at Alabama. That's the thing.
- 31:13Speaker 1: So here's one from Holly and Steel Silly Steel City. Well,
- 31:19Speaker 1: the big ten ever schedule. It's a Friday night game
- 31:21Speaker 1: at home. She would love to skip work, drink bush
- 31:25Speaker 1: lattes all day and making mortals stadium allows has been
- 31:28Speaker 1: since two thousand and one.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Did we had one at home?
- 31:31Speaker 1: A couple last year? We did have one last year,
- 31:34Speaker 1: So Holly, yeah, Illinois at home, you got that.
- 31:38Speaker 4: I hope you enjoyed your bush lattes.
- 31:42Speaker 2: It was not the loudest stadium all year. It was
- 31:45Speaker 2: the three hundred and fifty or four hundred consecutive sell
- 31:48Speaker 2: I don't remember what the number was.
- 31:51Speaker 1: It was in there, and I don't want to talk
- 31:53Speaker 1: about that game that went to overtime once again.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Not good.
- 31:58Speaker 1: All right, we'll stay bond from that because we had
- 32:01Speaker 1: one last year. Rick from Diller. Why is beer I
- 32:07Speaker 1: Memorial Stadium price like it's imported from Paris?
- 32:11Speaker 4: Hey, it's terrors ten dollars for a bud.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Light twelve for a Michelobe. That's what it is.
- 32:19Speaker 3: It might even more.
- 32:20Speaker 1: I thought it was more than ten. I thought it
- 32:21Speaker 1: was twelve. I thought it was eleven and twelve. Eleven
- 32:24Speaker 1: for a bud Light, twelve for a Mikeelobe.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I could be wrong.
- 32:27Speaker 1: What do we think. We haven't talked much about the
- 32:29Speaker 1: beer beer in the in the stadium, and.
- 32:32Speaker 2: I mean since at that point, because people have paid
- 32:35Speaker 2: for it one then two. You don't want people getting
- 32:37Speaker 2: absolutely ship based.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Yeah, if it was dollars, you want, you want, you
- 32:44Speaker 1: want adult, you want one game back destinated this dollar
- 32:47Speaker 1: beer night.
- 32:48Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think it invailed in the stadium.
- 32:50Speaker 3: I really don't.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Mean.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean sweet to go to, but I don't think.
- 32:57Speaker 3: I don't think you can do that.
- 32:58Speaker 2: I get it, but I also do well, like I said,
- 33:00Speaker 2: it's mostly for mitigation against people getting absolutely trashed. You
- 33:05Speaker 2: could sell one beer and it's the equivalent of selling
- 33:08Speaker 2: two normal price beers, but they're only consuming one.
- 33:13Speaker 3: But this is this is what I thought about it too.
- 33:16Speaker 3: They weren't selling beer, so people just get absolutely shit
- 33:18Speaker 3: gained before the game.
- 33:21Speaker 1: So that's that's the question. Obviously, I think you need
- 33:25Speaker 1: to do it for sale, like you're making revenue off that.
- 33:27Speaker 1: You're gonna make a ton of money, Like there's no
- 33:30Speaker 1: no question on it, because people are gonna buy it.
- 33:34Speaker 1: The amount of alcohol consumed before the game, Like I
- 33:38Speaker 1: actually think that this might maybe, I mean some people
- 33:44Speaker 1: like myself for example, it's not gonna change probably a
- 33:47Speaker 1: lot of the tailgating in what I do.
- 33:49Speaker 4: I think that's probably for a lot of people.
- 33:51Speaker 1: But some people might now say that just go to
- 33:53Speaker 1: the game, right that don't do a whole lot of tailgating,
- 33:56Speaker 1: Say all enjoy a beer during the game. Now, Like
- 33:59Speaker 1: I think that will happen more than we could probably think.
- 34:01Speaker 2: I think they'll help the crowd stay lubricated later in
- 34:04Speaker 2: the game. Two, I think the biggest positive is because
- 34:08Speaker 2: of the alcohol sales, there is no re entry, so
- 34:10Speaker 2: that's kind of a bad thing. But you're not going
- 34:13Speaker 2: to have those games where they, you know, the student
- 34:16Speaker 2: section leaves at half to go drink and then they
- 34:18Speaker 2: you know, correct, only a eighth of them trickle back.
- 34:21Speaker 1: In because students sections tough because what junior seniors maybe
- 34:26Speaker 1: you're twenty one.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Right, no, but you know, in generally at halftime there's
- 34:31Speaker 2: a lot of times where people would leave to go
- 34:33Speaker 2: back to tailgates over half and they come back, but
- 34:36Speaker 2: they never all came back, so the second half could
- 34:38Speaker 2: be a little bit flatter than the first.
- 34:40Speaker 1: That will help a ton.
- 34:41Speaker 4: I agree with that too.
- 34:43Speaker 3: And I don't know if it's gonna be like basketball,
- 34:45Speaker 3: but tens full of bucks. I mean, it's a big
- 34:47Speaker 3: beer you get the basketball games. It's so I don't
- 34:50Speaker 3: think it's like a horrible deal.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Dak. Let me ask you. You're going to You're probably
- 34:55Speaker 1: gonna go at.
- 34:55Speaker 4: Least a one game this year.
- 34:56Speaker 3: I'm going to. Yeah, yep.
- 34:59Speaker 1: What would the price of beer have to be for
- 35:01Speaker 1: you not to buy one in the stadium? Buy?
- 35:10Speaker 3: Uh p twenty five dollars?
- 35:12Speaker 2: Wow, that was good.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I bet you would give a twenty dollars bill for
- 35:17Speaker 1: I would what's your price, Hunter, it's raight up far off.
- 35:25Speaker 3: I would pay tent dollars here.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Here's my big thing too, And I think like drinking
- 35:31Speaker 1: before the game when there was not beer being sold
- 35:35Speaker 1: in the game, regardless of how much you have. I mean,
- 35:39Speaker 1: I never was one to drink so much, Like I
- 35:41Speaker 1: wanted enough to where I get to the game and
- 35:44Speaker 1: I have a little bit of a buzz, but I
- 35:46Speaker 1: can still focus in the game the whole time. Like
- 35:48Speaker 1: that's I have to watch about every snap and sit
- 35:53Speaker 1: there and be pissed most of the game. I think
- 35:55Speaker 1: having one beer then during the game keeps that just
- 35:58Speaker 1: flow going. By the time the end of the game
- 36:00Speaker 1: got over without a beer, I was, you're right that
- 36:03Speaker 1: third and fourth quarter, you're kind of just roggy. You're
- 36:07Speaker 1: the headache starts to kick in. You don't really you're
- 36:09Speaker 1: ready to go home. Even after some of the wins.
- 36:12Speaker 1: It was like, especially after you lose in a heartbreak,
- 36:15Speaker 1: You're like, get me out of this freaking town, Like
- 36:18Speaker 1: I don't want to be here anymore now. Even just
- 36:22Speaker 1: having one tall beer or one or two throughout the
- 36:26Speaker 1: whole game. And and I to me, that's as a
- 36:29Speaker 1: game changer. Uh so, yeah, I would. I mean, I'd
- 36:32Speaker 1: pay a decent amount for just having one.
- 36:35Speaker 3: But I mean I'm in the game.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Telve dollars isn't matter. Already be above my limits, Like
- 36:43Speaker 2: that's it. I can get a picture, but heavy at
- 36:48Speaker 2: the neighborhood bar for eleven, So it's.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Uh so, have to beat that runs a deal though.
- 37:00Speaker 2: The runs and the beer all priced the exact set.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Let's move to the defense here, Corey for Beatrice cs
- 37:12Speaker 1: this defense? Are we talking good good or just what
- 37:15Speaker 1: we call Nebraska good? Top half of the Big Ten's cute,
- 37:19Speaker 1: but one a black Shirts level unit that actually scares somebody? Defensively,
- 37:28Speaker 1: last year we were pretty good. You know, Tony White's
- 37:31Speaker 1: been pretty good, like they've been solid. I think this
- 37:34Speaker 1: year most people are thinking maybe a little step down
- 37:38Speaker 1: the same level. You know, your optimistics are going to say, oh,
- 37:41Speaker 1: it'll be better. Uh, I agree, like having give us
- 37:47Speaker 1: that and I don't know what the black shirt true
- 37:49Speaker 1: black Shirts because I don't remember watching them because I
- 37:51Speaker 1: wasn't old enough, but like, give me that twenty ten defense,
- 37:53Speaker 1: a bow pliny defense, and that that guy was that
- 37:56Speaker 1: defense was so freaking good in our offense was us
- 38:00Speaker 1: trash and we we've seen things like that the past
- 38:04Speaker 1: few years too, where our defense has been very good.
- 38:06Speaker 1: In our offense literally can't just do it, just do
- 38:08Speaker 1: something and we win a game. Defenses can't take us
- 38:14Speaker 1: take a huge step back. For me, and I think
- 38:16Speaker 1: we'll be fine. I don't think that we will be
- 38:19Speaker 1: back to black Shirts level this year. I honestly don't
- 38:23Speaker 1: have faith, not all faith in John Butler, but I
- 38:27Speaker 1: maybe he'll surprise us. I don't know that we'll ever
- 38:29Speaker 1: get back to that level in re upcoming years because
- 38:33Speaker 1: that defense was really really good, like out of ten
- 38:36Speaker 1: if you're putting numbers on it, but you know, get it.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Get us to a seven this year, gets to a
- 38:42Speaker 1: six or seven, and I think we're going to be
- 38:43Speaker 1: in a good spot.
- 38:44Speaker 2: But right if we're gonna be in top fourth of defenses,
- 38:48Speaker 2: that's all we need.
- 38:51Speaker 3: I mean, the last two seasons, I thought your defense free,
- 38:53Speaker 3: damn good, the top twenty. Yeah, I get coaching everyone
- 39:00Speaker 3: a lot of Yeah, I thought, and I thought the
- 39:02Speaker 3: year I thought they were I don't know what stats
- 39:05Speaker 3: to say, but I thought they were better the year
- 39:06Speaker 3: before when at Harberg and all those guys at quarterback,
- 39:09Speaker 3: just to even keep you in games with how bad
- 39:11Speaker 3: your offense.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Was, you said, and that's how you judge a defense, right,
- 39:16Speaker 1: you mentioned the scoring defense, the yards against defense. However
- 39:20Speaker 1: you want to judge it, it's complementary to your offense.
- 39:23Speaker 1: So if you are slow, longer time of possession, which
- 39:27Speaker 1: is good for the offense, but you know, taking more
- 39:30Speaker 1: time up to play clock. All of that, your defensive
- 39:32Speaker 1: stats are going to look better. Naturally. I think this
- 39:36Speaker 1: year what and we talked about last year too, what
- 39:38Speaker 1: could elevate the defense is forcing more turnovers. We did
- 39:41Speaker 1: more of that last year?
- 39:43Speaker 2: Was it?
- 39:43Speaker 1: Were we the turnover creating machine on defense? No, there's
- 39:48Speaker 1: some big thunder. We had a bit of storm going on,
- 39:50Speaker 1: and the Actress and Lincoln right now, ohas getting some rain.
- 39:55Speaker 4: But yeah, so as we're talking about the defense.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Throw the b a rule.
- 40:04Speaker 2: I'm trying to.
- 40:08Speaker 1: One.
- 40:09Speaker 2: I can't believe that we led the big ten time
- 40:12Speaker 2: possession last year. That stat still blows my mind. We
- 40:14Speaker 2: hardly scored like seventeen points a game. It's really real
- 40:19Speaker 2: credit to the offense. Yeah, but I mean yeah, I
- 40:28Speaker 2: probably agree. We'll probably be more like a seven and
- 40:30Speaker 2: a half defense. I think we'll be We'll be good,
- 40:34Speaker 2: but we're I don't think we're gonna have one an
- 40:36Speaker 2: Iowa game or not Iowa sorry Indiana game where we
- 40:41Speaker 2: just get their doors absolutely blown off. I don't think
- 40:44Speaker 2: that's happening this year.
- 40:46Speaker 3: So here's I was thinking about this. Are you guys
- 40:48Speaker 3: rooting against Tony White like yours? Scott Frost.
- 40:51Speaker 1: No, no, probably not already rooting against Scott Frost.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Yes, I mean it's just because he's an idiot and
- 41:05Speaker 3: what you said.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Let's go to an interesting one from Jake in Barnston, Nebraska.
- 41:21Speaker 1: I take time to retire serious for the toun of walk.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Love the tradition, but I swear my twelve year old
- 41:28Speaker 1: calls it dad music. Time for an upgrade. Uh, yeah,
- 41:36Speaker 1: not the first time I've heard this.
- 41:38Speaker 2: No, I agree this. This is a pretty heavy topic
- 41:40Speaker 2: conversation last year, maybe even more so of the year before.
- 41:43Speaker 2: It's rules first year. I think it's fine, Like why
- 41:47Speaker 2: do we need Like, I don't know. I know it's
- 41:51Speaker 2: been changed before, and it hasn't always been that way,
- 41:53Speaker 2: so I'm fine with the change. But like it's ten minutes,
- 41:57Speaker 2: five minutes of a game, Like is it that big
- 41:59Speaker 2: of an impact If it's I don't know, do people
- 42:03Speaker 2: really care that much about it? Either way?
- 42:09Speaker 3: Now, I would Frost changed it right his first year.
- 42:16Speaker 1: He ain't got changed for a little bit.
- 42:17Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I mean it was horrible the one
- 42:21Speaker 3: I did not I like that one, But like you said,
- 42:24Speaker 3: it's not it's not the biggest deal out there. I don't.
- 42:29Speaker 1: I will say when I was a kid, it matters
- 42:32Speaker 1: for kids more. Yeah, when I was a twelve year old,
- 42:36Speaker 1: like I looked forward to that part of the game.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Do you play the song at home and get hyped up?
- 42:40Speaker 3: Yep?
- 42:41Speaker 1: That and I still get hyped up the Husker power
- 42:45Speaker 1: chant like that kind of stuff is cool for twelve
- 42:47Speaker 1: year olds. And but if.
- 42:50Speaker 2: They put a different song in there, it'd still be
- 42:52Speaker 2: cool for you.
- 42:54Speaker 4: If you can make into a tradition, I think that's
- 42:56Speaker 4: the big.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Thing, right.
- 42:57Speaker 1: You don't want to change it every year. You can't,
- 42:59Speaker 1: And I think it takes the right hit to change
- 43:06Speaker 1: a long, long tradition to have it stick and everybody go, yep,
- 43:12Speaker 1: this is this is good, Like we want this to stay,
- 43:16Speaker 1: kind of like they did for the end of the
- 43:18Speaker 1: third quarter with Thunderstruck, Like I think that's stuck now, right.
- 43:23Speaker 2: You have to do it a couple of years for
- 43:25Speaker 2: a job.
- 43:26Speaker 1: And people have to enjoy it, and they have to
- 43:28Speaker 1: think this is worth it. And I think all of it,
- 43:30Speaker 1: whether whatever tradition it is, I don't care what it is.
- 43:33Speaker 1: If you're winning while you're doing it, it becomes cool.
- 43:39Speaker 1: If you lose and continue to lose while that tradition
- 43:42Speaker 1: is happening, you think is stupid. So like again, Scott Frost,
- 43:48Speaker 1: your documentary, you change a ton of walk we weren't winning.
- 43:50Speaker 1: It goes well, that was dumb, Like what's the point
- 43:53Speaker 1: in that? So I I vote keep I wanted. I
- 43:58Speaker 1: still think it's it's unique and enough. It's something that
- 44:03Speaker 1: I still think people enjoy. If we start winning games
- 44:06Speaker 1: and and get back to national relevance, kids are gonna
- 44:09Speaker 1: think it's cool too. That's what I think. Speaking of
- 44:14Speaker 1: national relevance, Doug from Philly says, what's it gonna take
- 44:18Speaker 1: for us to.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Say Nebraska is back? Beating Cincinnati.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Nine wins head wins?
- 44:27Speaker 3: Like? What? What?
- 44:27Speaker 1: What is that Bowl game after the first of the year.
- 44:31Speaker 1: At some point we got to stop settling for quote
- 44:36Speaker 1: unquote progress.
- 44:38Speaker 2: I'd say before I say that they're back, I'd say
- 44:43Speaker 2: three years of nine plus wins in a row.
- 44:50Speaker 1: I'm telling you, if we win nine games this year,
- 44:55Speaker 1: the word Nebraska's back, it's going to be a lot
- 44:58Speaker 1: of places. Now if people are saying that that sarcastic like.
- 45:04Speaker 4: Joke, Yeah, that'll be part of it.
- 45:06Speaker 1: But then there'll be something that I actually believe it
- 45:08Speaker 1: and think it's actually true.
- 45:11Speaker 3: But what's that number, Dak, I think playoffs eleven ten
- 45:16Speaker 3: eleven wins.
- 45:18Speaker 1: So you're saying we are back.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Yeah, to say yeah, I don't think nine wins is enough.
- 45:25Speaker 3: That's I mean, schedule wise, that's that's probably what you
- 45:29Speaker 3: are shooting for. This year's nine wins.
- 45:32Speaker 1: I'm just looking big future. If we say that we're back,
- 45:37Speaker 1: and we will if we get to the playoffs, God damn,
- 45:41Speaker 1: next year's expectations are going to be off the charts. Yeah,
- 45:48Speaker 1: but I agree often for to officially feel that way,
- 45:51Speaker 1: I agree, it's it's it's it's nine er, it's ten
- 45:55Speaker 1: wins and and ten wins is going to get you
- 45:59Speaker 1: in the playoffs a lot of times in the Big ten.
- 46:04Speaker 1: And it's consistently being there every year. And I think
- 46:09Speaker 1: it was it was after the it's a bopoline a
- 46:13Speaker 1: year when after we won a bowl game and he
- 46:15Speaker 1: makes the common Nebraska's back and we're here to stay,
- 46:18Speaker 1: like after he won his tenth game one of those years.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Because he did it every year, I don't think that's
- 46:25Speaker 1: calling us back. That's the thing. That's what's tricky now.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Maybe in today's college football environment, when that ten wins
- 46:31Speaker 1: does get you playoff birth potentially or at least in
- 46:36Speaker 1: that conversation, that probably feels good. You know, you're older,
- 46:39Speaker 1: the older fans you get. I bet you a lot
- 46:41Speaker 1: of them go you got to be getting to the
- 46:45Speaker 1: semi finals because that's the expectation for us. It's definitely
- 46:49Speaker 1: not the case. I mean, what what what what would
- 46:53Speaker 1: we say? Nebraska basketball is back, but we've never been there,
- 46:55Speaker 1: so we can't be back.
- 46:58Speaker 2: Makes the winning a tournament game in yeah, arrived you
- 47:03Speaker 2: I have.
- 47:04Speaker 1: I'm with you there.
- 47:05Speaker 4: I think that's awesome.
- 47:06Speaker 1: I think that's a good way of measure And it's
- 47:08Speaker 1: got to be consistent. Now people are going to just
- 47:11Speaker 1: assume that if rule can do it one year, he's
- 47:13Speaker 1: going to keep doing it.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Consistent successful seasons. I'm not saying they need to make
- 47:16Speaker 2: the playoffs every year, but if you win nine games
- 47:19Speaker 2: three years in a row, it's like, okay, you can
- 47:21Speaker 2: be nationally relevant. You might make the playoffs two of
- 47:23Speaker 2: those three years.
- 47:24Speaker 3: You might.
- 47:26Speaker 2: You know, you're making good bowl games outside that. Once
- 47:28Speaker 2: they bump into sixteen teams, like you're probably in.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Having three years in a row where we are basically
- 47:35Speaker 1: in the top twenty five from start to finish. Yes, yeah,
- 47:38Speaker 1: maybe you know, maybe maybe falling out, but you know,
- 47:41Speaker 1: but we're in the top twenty five and this year
- 47:44Speaker 1: I think is set up perfect for us to at
- 47:46Speaker 1: least start that and then see where we end by
- 47:48Speaker 1: the end of the year. This is the way our
- 47:50Speaker 1: schedule plays out. I do think, you know the Cincinnati,
- 47:54Speaker 1: but disregard that missioning game. Even slipping that one up,
- 47:56Speaker 1: good chance that you still your schedule set up to
- 48:01Speaker 1: become five and one, six and one or that that's
- 48:03Speaker 1: probably gonna put you no matter who you play, if
- 48:07Speaker 1: you're if you're a power five school, six and one,
- 48:09Speaker 1: you're probably in that conversation of being ranked. So I
- 48:13Speaker 1: think we're in a position to do that. But then
- 48:15Speaker 1: we'll see the other season ends.
- 48:18Speaker 3: So you're you're telling me make it the main strap
- 48:20Speaker 3: bl then make you say you brass's back.
- 48:24Speaker 1: You can put them in the Hall of Fame. Best
- 48:28Speaker 1: three and nine team ever.
- 48:29Speaker 3: Come on, yeah, think yeah, So what what number wins?
- 48:38Speaker 3: Will you guys be disappointed with?
- 48:41Speaker 2: Seven?
- 48:43Speaker 3: I was gonna say seven or last, Yet.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Depending how the seven goes, it could be seven. I think, yeah,
- 48:53Speaker 1: it'd be hard if we only win seven games with
- 48:56Speaker 1: this schedule, like it's pretty good some of these other
- 49:01Speaker 1: games like in the past. Yeah, it would that seven,
- 49:07Speaker 1: seven would be tough. It would be.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Yeah, so I'd say seven, like you said, depends on
- 49:13Speaker 3: how it goes.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Some people might be disappointed with eight.
- 49:18Speaker 2: Yeah, those people are fools.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Like what what? But but what are the those four
- 49:23Speaker 1: if you're looking at our schedule, we lose four games like.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Eight Pens Michigan L s U or l C U
- 49:32Speaker 2: c l A, U C.
- 49:34Speaker 1: L A don't think is very good, but yeah we
- 49:36Speaker 1: lost them last year Iowa. I guess, like I think
- 49:40Speaker 1: people be disappointed if we lost to u C l
- 49:42Speaker 1: A Iowa, like basically saying, man, we shouldn't have lot,
- 49:44Speaker 1: like like we should have beat those teams, especially if
- 49:47Speaker 1: those games, I mean, those games are gonna be one
- 49:48Speaker 1: score games, like in my mind they should be.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Now now the sky can easily falling after week one
- 49:57Speaker 3: you lose that game, yea.
- 50:00Speaker 1: I don't want to talk about it, but.
- 50:03Speaker 3: Someone's getting a little bit nervous if we get closer.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Yeah, last couple here, uh, let's see great from Cladonia
- 50:17Speaker 1: when it was the last time A little Red did
- 50:18Speaker 1: something cool. It could be some meme machine now he
- 50:22Speaker 1: since they're bouncing around like an inflatable car a lot guy. Mascots,
- 50:27Speaker 1: any thoughts on mascots.
- 50:29Speaker 2: They're fine. They're for the kids. If we had the
- 50:32Speaker 2: little Red blimp, that would have been sick. That never
- 50:34Speaker 2: came to fruition. But I don't know what what do
- 50:38Speaker 2: they need to do?
- 50:39Speaker 1: They're just there, they're mascots. Yeah, this is yeah, give
- 50:44Speaker 1: us a hot taker, just fire one out here.
- 50:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the topic that just fired me up. I
- 50:52Speaker 3: maybe maybe start dancing doing some red Panda tricks during halftime.
- 50:55Speaker 3: I don't know, red Panda.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Yeah, you get a little Red up there on a cycle.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Incredible little Red pandad one more.
- 51:17Speaker 3: Uh.
- 51:18Speaker 1: It just kind of goes along with our last one.
- 51:19Speaker 1: But Shannon from Plymouth says, real talk, what's the win total?
- 51:23Speaker 1: We should actually expect? Eight? Feels nice? It's only seven.
- 51:27Speaker 1: Don't start talking about hard questions.
- 51:29Speaker 2: In year three. Wow, Like you read that question sooner.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Should have Like, yeah, that's basically what we just talked about.
- 51:35Speaker 1: I think eight. I don't know. Again, this is where
- 51:40Speaker 1: you look at our schedule and you go, you win
- 51:42Speaker 1: eight games and you lose four, like, are we still?
- 51:48Speaker 1: Are we satisfied? Are we? Are we okay? If we
- 51:50Speaker 1: dropped at UCLA, we lose to Iowa again at home? Like,
- 51:55Speaker 1: is that okay? If we win eight games and those
- 51:57Speaker 1: are a couple of our losses, maybe, I mean, I
- 52:02Speaker 1: think I think it'll be hard if we win eight
- 52:03Speaker 1: games for us not to go, Man, what what could
- 52:06Speaker 1: have this season been? We got the schedule, it could
- 52:09Speaker 1: have been a ten win season. Are we being greedy?
- 52:12Speaker 1: Then that's a lot think about going, Think about ending
- 52:21Speaker 1: that you're going eight and four, knowing what those losses
- 52:23Speaker 1: could have been and where your mind's gonna be at.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Are you gonna sit back and go, Okay, eight wins
- 52:29Speaker 1: better better than seven, better than six? Like we're making progress?
- 52:33Speaker 1: Is that what we're gonna think?
- 52:35Speaker 2: Well? I feel like there are two reasonable losses. I
- 52:38Speaker 2: think if you lose to Michigan and you lose to
- 52:40Speaker 2: Penn State, it's.
- 52:41Speaker 1: Like, okay, South though too, Like that's that's a two
- 52:47Speaker 1: and a half point spread. I mean, that's it's at home.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Like it's almost a fifty to fifty coin flip game
- 52:52Speaker 1: if you're looking at it from a betting odd standpoint,
- 52:55Speaker 1: so it's another one there. You lose that game by
- 52:59Speaker 1: a touchdown or a field goal, and you play well
- 53:02Speaker 1: and you lose twenty seven to twenty four, and you
- 53:05Speaker 1: end the year eight and four. You're gonna look back
- 53:07Speaker 1: at that game and go, damn, like the season could
- 53:12Speaker 1: have been win that game or a people just gonna
- 53:16Speaker 1: go Nope, eight and four is good enough.
- 53:18Speaker 2: I guess it just depends on the losses. If the
- 53:21Speaker 2: losses are all close, it's like, okay, we were right there.
- 53:25Speaker 4: And why shouldn't they be like or you point?
- 53:28Speaker 3: Are you flip?
- 53:28Speaker 1: Don't get out? We have it recent here.
- 53:31Speaker 2: Iowa could end up being hella good this year. You
- 53:33Speaker 2: know they got their new you know, you just don't
- 53:35Speaker 2: know what the other teams look like. If i would
- 53:37Speaker 2: ends up making the playoffs and we lose to Iowa,
- 53:39Speaker 2: you see LA ends up winning nine wins or eight wins,
- 53:43Speaker 2: it's like, oh, okay, we we misjudged. Like last year,
- 53:47Speaker 2: we thought it was an easier schedule than all of
- 53:48Speaker 2: a sudden, Indiana was a playoff team.
- 53:52Speaker 3: I mean, flip it. If say you go ten and two,
- 53:56Speaker 3: but you just get absolutely throttled in that Penn State
- 53:58Speaker 3: Mission game. You guys still happy.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Yep, yes, unless Penn State's like seven and five, right,
- 54:06Speaker 1: but I think they will be.
- 54:08Speaker 3: I got I got a question off of this, what's
- 54:11Speaker 3: what's the number where you seriously consider firing that rule?
- 54:21Speaker 1: Six for sure? For me?
- 54:23Speaker 3: Wow, that's that's how I was gonna say four or five.
- 54:29Speaker 1: It's five or six probably, I think.
- 54:33Speaker 4: I don't think with this schedule.
- 54:35Speaker 1: I don't think going back to the pen Strike Bowl
- 54:37Speaker 1: at six and six is gonna make a lot of
- 54:39Speaker 1: people happy. It's gonna be very frustrating again, depending on
- 54:44Speaker 1: how it goes. Well, No, I shouldn't. You're not saying
- 54:46Speaker 1: fire though they're saying consider, which.
- 54:48Speaker 3: I think you're like, like you, I.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Shouldn't even say, depending how the season goes, because if
- 54:53Speaker 1: we go six and six and we are losing close
- 54:55Speaker 1: one score games again, that that might it's not, it's
- 54:59Speaker 1: probably not, but that's gonna piss so many people off
- 55:01Speaker 1: again because we've done it. Oh your ear now worse
- 55:05Speaker 1: than that. You get beat at UCLA by ten more
- 55:09Speaker 1: than a one score game. You get beat by Iowa
- 55:11Speaker 1: by fourteen, Like, that's really bad too. That's why it's
- 55:14Speaker 1: not even really dependent upon how the season goes. If
- 55:16Speaker 1: you go six and six, people are gonna be pissed
- 55:18Speaker 1: because no matter how you lose. Now, maybe you know,
- 55:23Speaker 1: you you almost beat ten State, or you almost beat
- 55:26Speaker 1: Michigan and they're both eleven and one, like, maybe that's
- 55:30Speaker 1: a scenario that you go, Okay, well we're there. But
- 55:34Speaker 1: I think for the most part, you go six and six,
- 55:37Speaker 1: no matter how you're losing those games, it's not gonna
- 55:41Speaker 1: be good. We're just we're impatient. We're not and I
- 55:45Speaker 1: think rightfully, so.
- 55:46Speaker 2: We've paid, We've paid well enough to be impatient. Yeah,
- 55:50Speaker 2: as far as.
- 55:52Speaker 3: You go six and six, you would want Matt Rule fired.
- 55:56Speaker 1: No, I think you start the discussion. I think the
- 55:59Speaker 1: clock starts. I probably will say I want him fired.
- 56:01Speaker 1: You just let's be real. I probably will say that
- 56:03Speaker 1: for six and six. I will is that if the
- 56:06Speaker 1: discussions talked about. Yeah, and I'll probably be on that
- 56:09Speaker 1: side because I'll be tired of it, like I'll I
- 56:12Speaker 1: just I'm under the believer there's more young coaches that
- 56:15Speaker 1: we don't got to freaking pay what we're paying all
- 56:17Speaker 1: these don't. Yeah, what we don't got to pay him
- 56:20Speaker 1: a ship ton of money to get someone that has
- 56:22Speaker 1: motivation to come in here and freaking right now. I
- 56:24Speaker 1: think the rules could be that guy still like, but
- 56:27Speaker 1: if we're six and six, I'm there's no reason for
- 56:30Speaker 1: me to say yep. And if we're six and six, also,
- 56:34Speaker 1: the other thing is not going to be a pleasant
- 56:36Speaker 1: six and six. From a team oriented standpoint, Dylan Ryol
- 56:40Speaker 1: is not going to sit here and go, well, we
- 56:44Speaker 1: have we have, we were close in a lot of
- 56:45Speaker 1: these games, and and I think that you know, next
- 56:48Speaker 1: year is going to be the year. Well, I think
- 56:50Speaker 1: we go six and six or some stuff going on
- 56:52Speaker 1: that He's not happy either. And we're also talking a
- 56:54Speaker 1: lot bigger picture of transfers and all this stuff too.
- 56:58Speaker 1: So I do think six and is not gonna be
- 57:00Speaker 1: acceptable for a lot of reasons.
- 57:05Speaker 3: I mean, let's be really here, We're sitting in the
- 57:07Speaker 3: car after the Internet game. You lose that game, you're
- 57:09Speaker 3: gonna fire.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Then I'll be very frustrated. But I won't be there
- 57:17Speaker 1: after game one unless it's like five, three, three, I
- 57:23Speaker 1: won't be there because I do think we're gonna be
- 57:25Speaker 1: two and one at the worst case scenario. And yeah,
- 57:27Speaker 1: you have a chance to win that sucker back you
- 57:30Speaker 1: go three and one in your first four games, you're
- 57:32Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of people happy, Like people are
- 57:34Speaker 1: gonna be thrilled, but people are gonna be pissed. You
- 57:38Speaker 1: go three and one through the Mision game, heading into
- 57:40Speaker 1: that first by a week, like you're gonna say, okay,
- 57:43Speaker 1: like that's probably what's expected somewhere between three and one
- 57:46Speaker 1: and four.
- 57:46Speaker 2: No, So.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't want to have to talk
- 57:52Speaker 1: about that because I don't. Hope we don't, but we
- 57:54Speaker 1: won't have to.
- 57:55Speaker 2: Don't worry.
- 57:57Speaker 1: Gosh, dang it, guys, I started off so optimist. That's
- 58:00Speaker 1: such a positive kool Aid drinking note. Yeah, he brought
- 58:04Speaker 1: me back down.
- 58:06Speaker 3: Yeah, we're gonna talk about three v here hans Hana
- 58:09Speaker 3: was getting more and more nervous. We get close to
- 58:11Speaker 3: that kickoff.
- 58:12Speaker 2: He always does.
- 58:15Speaker 1: I don't like it.
- 58:16Speaker 2: I don't.
- 58:16Speaker 1: I don't like it. I don't think Cincinnati is great
- 58:18Speaker 1: and nobody's really high on them. That makes me like it.
- 58:21Speaker 1: I just yeah, everyone's just down talking them down playing
- 58:24Speaker 1: they might be right.
- 58:27Speaker 2: Mhm, it'll be fine, it'll be good. I think I
- 58:33Speaker 2: think we're all gonna be pleasantly surprised this year. That's
- 58:38Speaker 2: my gut reaction, my gut instinct, which is new. It's
- 58:43Speaker 2: a new new instinct really.
- 58:46Speaker 3: I mean either way, I'm absolutely jacked up for that
- 58:48Speaker 3: first game of the year.
- 58:50Speaker 2: Yes, thanks, the first time I gotta beat back in person. Yeah,
- 58:54Speaker 2: you know he's six foot four. Absolutely jacked.
- 58:58Speaker 1: No, no, don't get any of those up. Like everything
- 59:02Speaker 1: you just said opposite.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Never meet your heroes in person.
- 59:07Speaker 1: You know.
- 59:08Speaker 2: That's what I'm really nervous about. Not even nurse about
- 59:10Speaker 2: the game.
- 59:12Speaker 3: Dak.
- 59:12Speaker 1: You got a little bit of Captain and diet there
- 59:15Speaker 1: at seven am.
- 59:16Speaker 3: Yep, might as well start up. Might not work today.
- 59:18Speaker 1: That drinks coffee out of like glass jars.
- 59:26Speaker 3: I might have myself a ring. Hey today, we'll see.
- 59:31Speaker 1: All right, Well, we'll be back Thursday. We're gonna have
- 59:33Speaker 1: a Rainald Rickenberg case State Fan on for a quick
- 59:37Speaker 1: little interview to preview the Doublin Ireland game, and.
- 59:44Speaker 4: We'll talk more Husker football as we get closer to kickoff.
- 59:49Speaker 1: Go Big Red gb R, Go.
- 59:51Speaker 3: Big Great.
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: Annis and Pictuato
