- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Today we Talking about musts versus shoulds.
- 0:34So I have noticed a pattern in myself where I will say, oh, I
- 0:41should do this. I should do this and believe me.
- 0:44I've called this out to my coach because it's drives me crazy.
- 0:47And I'm not typically that person I get a lot done, but I
- 0:51do know that there are times in my life when I start shooting
- 0:55all over myself as we say. And I have noticed that it has
- 1:00been showing up with certain things that I don't like to get
- 1:03done like paperwork. Paperwork is the bane of my
- 1:05existence. I can't stand doing paperwork
- 1:08office work, that doesn't have to do with any of my clients,
- 1:12but just has to do with all like tax stuff, you know, anything
- 1:17that has to do with stuff that you don't like to deal with.
- 1:20I hate doing it so I wait till the last minute, I put it off
- 1:24because it's just a, in my world.
- 1:27It's a should but it's not a must So I started thinking about
- 1:32this as I was getting ready to record a session this morning
- 1:35and I said, you know, I should talk about this just so I can
- 1:37give myself a good reminder, as well as maybe help somebody else
- 1:40out there who's doing it. So often we do this to ourselves
- 1:45where we talk about things that are important necessary urgent.
- 1:51However, you want to look at it but we assign them these things
- 1:55of saying, oh well I should do this.
- 1:57I should do this. Like I must brush my teeth
- 1:59before I go to bed. Said, I should get up early and
- 2:02work out because really nobody's going to know right at some
- 2:06point. It's going to show up eventually
- 2:10in the long run, but it's so far out that we don't worry about it
- 2:13because it's so far out, you know, the damages of not working
- 2:16out aren't going to affect you immediately.
- 2:19As they all say, it will take a little bit of time for it to
- 2:22show up typically, and because of that, we put it off and we
- 2:27put it off and we put it off because we don't have
- 2:29quote-unquote the The city for it and it is not a must.
- 2:33It is a should. So for me I know there's a
- 2:37there's time in the year to process and do this type of
- 2:40paperwork that I don't like to do.
- 2:41So it doesn't become a must, it becomes a should.
- 2:45And when I was thinking about this today, I started saying to
- 2:48myself, okay, I have to really focus myself and get myself to
- 2:53recognize that I need to make this an absolute without
- 2:57question must. So I'm going to take Teach you
- 3:00guys how to do this at the same time because anything is
- 3:04digestible. When we do it in small, chunks
- 3:06and Things become a big deal, when we make them a big deal by
- 3:10putting them off and not doing them when we are supposed to do
- 3:14them in a timely manner. And again, it could be anything
- 3:18me. Think about it.
- 3:18If you didn't have the must-have brushing your teeth.
- 3:21Oh my gosh. Can you imagine how gross your
- 3:23mouth would be by the time? You know you didn't do it for a
- 3:27week or so you'd be like this is ridiculous.
- 3:29I feel absolutely Most of us would feel disgusting after
- 3:32missing one of the times we do it during the day.
- 3:35So you have to start looking at the consequences of allowing
- 3:40something to be a should instead of a must and then put together
- 3:45in your mind, what? What are those things that are a
- 3:49must that you're already doing? Like, I must brush my teeth.
- 3:53I must go to sleep. I must eat food fundamental
- 3:57things. Yes, but we make it a must and
- 4:00we Have to do it, you know, just earlier today we were out.
- 4:04I had had only a protein shake in the morning.
- 4:07I had gone hours without anything else other than the
- 4:10protein shake and I started to get really fancy, you know,
- 4:15hangry, if you will and right away.
- 4:17I said, III need to pull over and go to the gas station and
- 4:20get some nuts or something. Because this isn't going to be
- 4:23pretty and I and I knew it, I knew I felt it coming and
- 4:26because there was an urgency with it went from, I should get
- 4:30something. Eat too.
- 4:31I must get something to eat. So it switches very quickly and
- 4:35we can start to follow this along in our life and see where
- 4:38else the shows up. So we can kind of bridge the gap
- 4:41and teach ourselves how to do this in all areas.
- 4:44So one of my plans is to make it a must that every month when I
- 4:49do my wrap-up of a month and I say okay?
- 4:52Because I like to debrief things in detail and say, okay what
- 4:56worked well this month, what could have been better?
- 4:58What can I add in? How can I be more?
- 5:00More efficient. I'll look at months, I add up
- 5:02all the things that I do crazy about that, love to give myself
- 5:05stickers for great jobs, but I've never included this
- 5:09particular one in it. So now I'm going to make it a
- 5:12must that every month. I'm going to download all the
- 5:16information in so that I have everything right away.
- 5:20I'm not going to wait and have to do a Year's worth it a whole
- 5:23time. Instead I'm just going to do it
- 5:24month by month and that will cut down the time and it will be
- 5:27painless and effortless when I have to just Put this all
- 5:31together. Actually get software.
- 5:33That does this? What a concept.
- 5:35So I'm telling you this and I'm sharing this with you one
- 5:38because I want you to know again we all do these things.
- 5:41And this is my Achilles heel if you will and to I want you to
- 5:45see 99.9% of the time. It's all these little tiny
- 5:50things that we can do quickly, that will change things.
- 5:53It's not that it's big giant shoves that we need to do and
- 5:57give ourselves. It's just the small little
- 5:59things. So take that into consideration,
- 6:03work on that. Ask yourself.
- 6:05What am I saying? Is a should when it could be a
- 6:07must or should be a must. There you go.
- 6:09Get that one. What are the things I want to
- 6:11turn into a must? Instead of a should, and really
- 6:14start just the whole process by just observing?
- 6:17What are you allowing yourself to say?
- 6:21I should, I should I should again shooting all over yourself
- 6:25and then turn those into must and then, let's see where you go
- 6:29from there. All right, guys.
- 6:30Hope you have a great day. Talk to you soon.
- 6:32Bye. Hope you have a great day.
- 6:31Talk to you soon. Bye.
