Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
0:04
Speaker 2: All right, well, a couple of Thanksgiving observations and on
0:08
Speaker 2: the sports side of things. My observation from Thanksgiving yesterday
0:12
Speaker 2: was simply this, when the Chiefs lose, it's a national
0:16
Speaker 2: sports story, the First Take and other outlets over the
0:20
Speaker 2: night and this morning, leaning in with the.
0:24
Speaker 1: Fact Chiefs lost, and they lost.
0:26
Speaker 2: To the Cowboys, who, as Colony Romo and Jim NaN's
0:30
Speaker 2: pointed out, as they pointed out, could run the table
0:35
Speaker 2: if they beat the Troy next week. I mean, this team,
0:38
Speaker 2: you know, gets rid of Micah. There's a lot of
0:40
Speaker 2: stuff going on with this team, yet here they are
0:43
Speaker 2: in prime position to take over the conference.
0:48
Speaker 3: I haven't seen that from Dallas in a while, Dak
0:51
Speaker 3: not making the mistakes that he usually does. It's been
0:53
Speaker 3: a different team for Dallas this year. So we'll see
0:56
Speaker 3: what happens out of that. But I do ope my bear,
0:58
Speaker 3: my Dad's Bears. Thank for my Bears. I mean, when
1:01
Speaker 3: I want the Giants succeed, but I want the Bears
1:03
Speaker 3: to succeed for my dad, and when they do, I'm
1:07
Speaker 3: happy as well. So they played today Black Friday, and.
1:10
Speaker 1: By the way, if you.

1:29
Speaker 2: J NYC one for Alex G the affiliate. But for now,
1:33
Speaker 2: enjoy the many different takes on Thanksgiving over the years
1:38
Speaker 2: on the one look up Alex Network. Well, continuing my
1:44
Speaker 2: Thanksgiving Day sports observations is my favorite sports guy, Terminello's take,
1:50
Speaker 2: lou Terminello, Happy Thanksgiving.
1:52
Speaker 1: First of all, Happy Thanksgiving, Alex, thank you so much.
1:56
Speaker 2: We had three very wild games yesterday. I mean the
1:59
Speaker 2: line Packers. That was interesting because the Lions just looked,
2:04
Speaker 2: they looked over match. And then of course I go
2:07
Speaker 2: to have dinner and the Chiefs are up and I
2:09
Speaker 2: walked back upstairs and they're losing, and it was like,
2:12
Speaker 2: how did that happen? So there are just a lot
2:14
Speaker 2: of storylines. But I want to go back to my
2:17
Speaker 2: point I just made a couple of minutes ago in
2:19
Speaker 2: the monologue, which is Louis when the Chiefs lose, it's
2:23
Speaker 2: like the lead sports story across all It's almost like
2:27
Speaker 2: the media lives and dies by what the Chiefs do.
2:31
Speaker 1: Well. Obviously it's because of their great success over the
2:35
Speaker 1: last decade. Obviously, they've won the division nine years in
2:39
Speaker 1: a row. They're not going to do that this year.
2:41
Speaker 1: And they've gone to all those Super Bowls, they won
2:46
Speaker 1: three of them, and so that is the reason why
2:51
Speaker 1: they're looked upon. They have the best coach in the league,
2:53
Speaker 1: they have the best player in the league, and King's
2:58
Speaker 1: greatness again was shown yesterday or that game one have
3:03
Speaker 1: gone down to the to the you know, the final
3:05
Speaker 1: three minutes. But I'm impressed with Dallas and with UH,
3:10
Speaker 1: with UH Brian Schottenheimer. He's done a good He's done
3:13
Speaker 1: a good job with that team. They have a lot
3:15
Speaker 1: of good offensive weapons and I don't know if they're
3:19
Speaker 1: gonna make the playoffs, but they're gonna be a tough
3:23
Speaker 1: out the rest of the way. And I'm telling you
3:25
Speaker 1: one thing, I don't know why, you know, you talk
3:28
Speaker 1: about it's a national national disaster or it's national news
3:32
Speaker 1: when the Chiefs lose, which hasn't been very often over
3:37
Speaker 1: the last decade. But uh, you know, I really, I
3:43
Speaker 1: really don't know why that Dak Prescott isn't elevated more
3:48
Speaker 1: to a higher level. In a league where quarterback play
3:53
Speaker 1: is so inconsistent, you have young guys playing, uh when
3:58
Speaker 1: maybe they shouldn't be playing. I mean, he's he's a leader,
4:04
Speaker 1: he's an accurate passer, he's tough. I mean, I I
4:08
Speaker 1: think Dak Prescott is one of the most valuable players
4:12
Speaker 1: players in the NFL this year. But matt Matthew Stafford's
4:17
Speaker 1: going to win it if the season ended today. Matthew
4:20
Speaker 1: Stafford's winning MVP. But it was a it was a
4:25
Speaker 1: wild day yesterday. I thought I thought Detroit would bounce back,
4:30
Speaker 1: but they haven't played well the last three four weeks.
4:33
Speaker 1: Their defense is on what it was, their offensive line
4:35
Speaker 1: isn't what it was. And Alex we always talk about
4:38
Speaker 1: being a week two week league. It really is a
4:43
Speaker 1: talent wise, maybe because of guys being injured. You know,
4:48
Speaker 1: the Bills are playing Sunday with out there left and
4:52
Speaker 1: right tackles, so, uh, when they play Pittsburgh, you don't
4:59
Speaker 1: know what's gonna happen. Anybody who's making these predictions that
5:02
Speaker 1: what's going to happen in February is really just whistling
5:05
Speaker 1: in the dark. I mean, it's it's one week to
5:08
Speaker 1: the next. What goes on? I mean, anybody, Quinn, Look, look,
5:12
Speaker 1: Cincinnati gets Burrow back last night. I know Flacco did
5:15
Speaker 1: a great job. You know, they lost the game where
5:18
Speaker 1: Flacco scored thirty eight points. They lost the game when
5:22
Speaker 1: they scored forty two, and the Bengals should have won
5:24
Speaker 1: those two games. But with Burrow out, there is just
5:30
Speaker 1: a different aura of a feeling for the uh the
5:35
Speaker 1: s though with.
5:36
Speaker 2: Joe Burrow it's a bringings a different energy to that team.
5:39
Speaker 1: I mean, the defensive actually did something last night for
5:42
Speaker 1: the Cincinnati Bengals. So I mean they're four and eight.
5:46
Speaker 1: I mean they're in the division where that's catchable, but
5:50
Speaker 1: I uh, you know, I don't think anything's gonna happen.
5:54
Speaker 1: But it's a week to week league. It's the weirdest
5:56
Speaker 1: the league is becoming so weird, it really is. Troit
6:01
Speaker 1: might make the playoffs right now. Detroit is in the hunt,
6:05
Speaker 1: but they're not in the playoffs. Kansas City is in
6:09
Speaker 1: the hunt. So you can have an NFL playoff scenario
6:17
Speaker 1: where there's no Detroit and there's no Kansas City. And
6:22
Speaker 1: I don't think anybody would have figured that when the
6:24
Speaker 1: season started back in September, and even teams like the
6:30
Speaker 1: Eagles s total four to oh they lost.
6:34
Speaker 2: That that's an interesting case study too, because the Eagles
6:38
Speaker 2: look strong, but now they lose to well, they lost
6:42
Speaker 2: the Cowboys. Now they lose to the Bears, and the Bears,
6:45
Speaker 2: my dad's Bears. I have to say, what ten and three?
6:48
Speaker 2: So it's pretty impressive what we've seen from this team.
6:53
Speaker 1: Well, Ben Johnson's done a good job. He's done a
6:56
Speaker 1: very good job. As you know, I'm always in favor
6:59
Speaker 1: of hiring offensive coaches because this is an offensive league
7:05
Speaker 1: first and foremost. Caleb Williams still isn't you know, he
7:11
Speaker 1: still isn't consistent. Even today he was and I know
7:14
Speaker 1: it was windy in Philadelphia, but his accuracy isn't as
7:19
Speaker 1: a one yet. He's not at that level. Alex. I mean,
7:23
Speaker 1: let's let's think about it. You know, I hate lists,
7:26
Speaker 1: but let's just categorize him this way. I would put
7:31
Speaker 1: only four quarterbacks in the super blue chip category, Patrick Mahomes,
7:36
Speaker 1: Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Matthew Stafford. I mean, there's
7:43
Speaker 1: a lot of good there's some good quarterbacks, but there's
7:47
Speaker 1: a lot of quarterbacks that are that are in and out,
7:50
Speaker 1: you know, inconsistent, and some of them are playing too early.
7:55
Speaker 1: You know, they need to sit a little bit more.
7:57
Speaker 1: But again, he got to play them because there's no
8:02
Speaker 1: the backups are terrible. But look again, this week, guys
8:06
Speaker 1: aren't gonna play. Guys are playing injured. Daniel Jones going
8:10
Speaker 1: to play Sunday with a fracture in aphibia, I mean really,
8:17
Speaker 1: I mean I know it might just be a cracked
8:19
Speaker 1: He said he can play with the pain, But what
8:22
Speaker 1: about what about if he gets hit blindsided and this
8:25
Speaker 1: time totally breaks breaks his leg? I guess h Baker
8:32
Speaker 1: Mayfield eighty five percent is gonna play with you know,
8:35
Speaker 1: with an ACL joint that is only eighty percent. But
8:39
Speaker 1: it looks like he's gonna play. Jackson Darts coming back
8:43
Speaker 1: from concussion protocol. So is c J. Stroud? Uh, it's
8:47
Speaker 1: really it's really hitting this league. Yeah.
8:53
Speaker 2: No, I'm curious to see how they do coming back,
8:56
Speaker 2: especially Jackson, because look, even though the season is done mathematically,
9:02
Speaker 2: you still want to see what the kid's gotten them,
9:04
Speaker 2: especially after this, because that's the future right there. You
9:06
Speaker 2: still want to see how the future performs moving forward,
9:09
Speaker 2: especially under Kafka, now that they're gonna name Kafka the
9:11
Speaker 2: full time. But you never know, Louis, No, you never know.
9:15
Speaker 2: You never know.
9:16
Speaker 1: Absolutely a lot can happen between now and uh, the
9:20
Speaker 1: the last weeks season.
9:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know.
9:26
Speaker 1: These guys are playing to win. Anybody, you know, in
9:29
Speaker 1: the NFL teams really do not tank like in the NBA,
9:32
Speaker 1: which is I mean, we do a whole we could
9:35
Speaker 1: do a whole show on uh the NBA tanking, which
9:38
Speaker 1: has been in disgrace for a long time. But this
9:41
Speaker 1: was but talking about the back to the NFL. You
9:46
Speaker 1: just you just look at these games. Jayden Daniels is
9:50
Speaker 1: playing this week, Pennex is not playing this week. It's unbelievable.
9:56
Speaker 1: How many of these guys get hurt and uh, like
10:01
Speaker 1: I said, it's so if somebody could tell me who's
10:03
Speaker 1: gonna be playing on Super Bowl Sunday, they really could
10:06
Speaker 1: tell me. I give him a lot of credit. They
10:10
Speaker 1: could take a wild guest. Nobody knows Alex, nobody knows.
10:14
Speaker 1: I mean, nobody picks Cincinnati, even with Borough coming back
10:17
Speaker 1: to win in Baltimore last night, but they did and
10:22
Speaker 1: they deserve to win.
10:23
Speaker 2: The Giants oddly enough, still could put up enough points
10:27
Speaker 2: to beat New England. I don't think they're gonna do it,
10:29
Speaker 2: but they always even to put themselves in a position
10:31
Speaker 2: where they can actually beat these teams, and then they
10:33
Speaker 2: lose it within the last five minutes. So it's always amazing.
10:37
Speaker 1: On the Patriots, Alex. Yeah, they might win Monday Night,
10:41
Speaker 1: but I know they've won nine in a row. They're
10:43
Speaker 1: on the streak, and they've done a great job. But
10:48
Speaker 1: you know, I'm not sold that this is a great team.
10:52
Speaker 1: I think it's a bad I think this year twenty
10:54
Speaker 1: twenty five, Alex, I think it's a bad lead. I
10:57
Speaker 1: really do. Right now, MS are head and shoulders over
11:01
Speaker 1: everybody else as we leave this thank Thanksgiving weekend and
11:07
Speaker 1: we go into this Thanksgiving weekend finish up on Sunday.
11:12
Speaker 1: But I just think quality of play isn't great. But
11:16
Speaker 1: you still got to go out there and win as
11:18
Speaker 1: many games, as many games as he can. They're still
11:21
Speaker 1: going to crown the Super Bowl champion come February, so
11:25
Speaker 1: you want to get in there, but you might just look,
11:27
Speaker 1: you might have a playoff with Jacksonville, which is so streaky,
11:32
Speaker 1: so up and down. I remember you know, talk about
11:36
Speaker 1: tanking Trevor Lawrence. You just have to go on sixteen
11:39
Speaker 1: so they can draft Trevor Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence has been
11:43
Speaker 1: just okay, that's all he's been in his NFL career.
11:48
Speaker 1: And now you know, he's been in the league over
11:50
Speaker 1: half a decade. So is he better and most? Yeah,
11:53
Speaker 1: I would say he's better than most. But it's not
11:58
Speaker 1: that he was supposed to be Burrow. He was supposed
12:01
Speaker 1: to be Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes level, Stafford level. He's not.
12:08
Speaker 1: And he it's not that the team he plays for
12:10
Speaker 1: has been absolutely horrible, you know, like Zach Wilson playing
12:15
Speaker 1: for the Jets, or where Donald or Daniel Jones playing
12:20
Speaker 1: for the Giants. He played for a decent team. You know,
12:24
Speaker 1: so again, but you look, you go back to, you know,
12:29
Speaker 1: like today's Eagle game. The Bears rush for over two
12:33
Speaker 1: hundred and seventy yards on him, kyleman Nungui, the great
12:37
Speaker 1: Rutgers back rush for over one hundred twenty five yards.
12:40
Speaker 1: DeAndre Swift over one hundred and twenty five yards. I think
12:43
Speaker 1: it's the first time in eleven years that two backs
12:46
Speaker 1: ran for over one hundred twenty five yards on the
12:48
Speaker 1: same team. So the Eagles have issues. And again this
12:55
Speaker 1: year proves that the New York Giants did the right
12:59
Speaker 1: thing by not resigning Barkley. Joe Shane did the right thing. Yes,
13:04
Speaker 1: Barkley was spectacular last year Offensive Player of the Year,
13:08
Speaker 1: but this year three guys on the offensive line been
13:14
Speaker 1: are in and out. They lost spectin to the Chargers.
13:19
Speaker 1: He might look a little slow, he's not hearing that
13:21
Speaker 1: hole like he did. But last year, Alex, the holes
13:23
Speaker 1: was so big he was gone. He was gone the
13:26
Speaker 1: one step what he got between the tackle and the guard,
13:31
Speaker 1: or if he got outside, he's gonna go from over
13:35
Speaker 1: two thousand yards to about twelve hundred eleven hundred yards
13:39
Speaker 1: something like that. So it's one year, does not does
13:48
Speaker 1: not mean anything that's gonna happen next year. Another thing,
13:51
Speaker 1: we'll talk about these teams like like Tennessee, the Giants,
13:56
Speaker 1: the Jets, the Raiders. All right, some of them have
14:00
Speaker 1: six games left, some have five games left, because I
14:02
Speaker 1: know some teams still have to have their bye week.
14:06
Speaker 1: It's like just we'll just pick, We'll pick. We'll pick
14:08
Speaker 1: my Jets. For a second. If the Jets go four
14:12
Speaker 1: and to the rest of the way. That does not
14:14
Speaker 1: carry over into next year. It does not. You know, Oh,
14:18
Speaker 1: you want to think finish strong and carry over into
14:20
Speaker 1: next year. They will tell you that as they win games.
14:23
Speaker 1: But it doesn't, Alex, it doesn't. In nineteen seventy four,
14:27
Speaker 1: the New York Jets won seven. They won their last
14:30
Speaker 1: six games. They beat O. J. Simpson in Buffalo, they
14:32
Speaker 1: beat they beat Miami who had who had won back
14:37
Speaker 1: to back Super Bowls and were a favorite again, but
14:40
Speaker 1: they lost the game in Oakland, the famous Sea of
14:43
Speaker 1: Fans game. The Jets won six in a row. You
14:48
Speaker 1: know what their record was in seventy five, Alex, three
14:50
Speaker 1: and eleven.
14:54
Speaker 2: Wow, that I did not know. See, that's why I
14:56
Speaker 2: have you on for this historical references. By the way
14:59
Speaker 2: the Jets, I mean, I feel like they still they're
15:03
Speaker 2: gonna be struggling to the end of the season. And
15:06
Speaker 2: how they decided a quarterback. I feel like it's every
15:08
Speaker 2: week there's a toss up between who's gonna actually start
15:10
Speaker 2: the week that week.
15:13
Speaker 1: Well that obviously they gotta that's what they gotta fix.
15:17
Speaker 1: They gotta get a quarterback. They excuse me, as I
15:19
Speaker 1: told you again and again, they have to draft two quarterbacks.
15:23
Speaker 1: I mean, I think all these teams should really draft
15:26
Speaker 1: a quarterback because you never know when a guy's gonna
15:29
Speaker 1: get tinged.
15:31
Speaker 2: I feel like with a Gion Dumble, the same thing
15:32
Speaker 2: every year. But I want to talk about the new
15:35
Speaker 2: the new real team that I'm looking out for the
15:38
Speaker 2: Chargers because I told you second year under Harbor, Herbert
15:43
Speaker 2: Herbaugh dynamic would be fantastic, and they haven't disappointed. I mean,
15:47
Speaker 2: that team can go places.
15:49
Speaker 1: You know. I thought they actually would be better than they are.
15:52
Speaker 1: But they lost their left tackle, they lost their right tackle,
15:56
Speaker 1: they had other injuries. They'll be I mean, I they'll
16:01
Speaker 1: be tough. I think they'll be tough down the stretch.
16:04
Speaker 1: They do play the Cowboys, that'll be an interesting game.
16:07
Speaker 1: There's a lot of interesting games still to be played.
16:10
Speaker 1: Next Thursday night. On Thursday on Thursday Night Football, you
16:14
Speaker 1: have the Cowboys playing at the Lions and must win
16:19
Speaker 1: for both teams. If I mean, Tony Romo.
16:22
Speaker 2: Keeps saying what if the if the Cowboys run out
16:24
Speaker 2: or run the table? They went out they run. Hey,
16:27
Speaker 2: I heard that term with the Cowboys running the table
16:30
Speaker 2: in a long time. So something hats clicked and that
16:34
Speaker 2: was a team, like the Eagles, had a lot of
16:35
Speaker 2: off season and off the field controversy. You know, just
16:39
Speaker 2: like what what's gonna happen with Michael?
16:41
Speaker 1: Why they let them go?
16:42
Speaker 2: Well, look at this team now, they look actually well
16:45
Speaker 2: improved in a sense.
16:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, I know that they are. I mean, uh I
16:50
Speaker 1: think I think uh Quinn win Williams helped them. I
16:54
Speaker 1: don't you know, I think they did. They're just playing better.
16:56
Speaker 1: I don't know if they can get if they can
16:59
Speaker 1: make the playoffs outlets, I really I really don't. But uh,
17:03
Speaker 1: you just you got you gotta take it week by week.
17:05
Speaker 1: But I am shocked that the Detroit Lions are third
17:08
Speaker 1: in a division, behind the Bears and behind behind the Packers.
17:13
Speaker 1: To me, that is shocking. And uh, you know, David Ragno,
17:19
Speaker 1: who retired, has come out of retirement to play center
17:22
Speaker 1: in the role pro center who who retired at the
17:25
Speaker 1: age of twenty nine. He's back because their offensive line,
17:28
Speaker 1: which was dominant, has not been and uh you know
17:34
Speaker 1: he's going to try to save them. So the last
17:37
Speaker 1: six weeks will be interesting. It always is. Might come
17:40
Speaker 1: down to the last day for a lot of these teams.
17:43
Speaker 1: And we've seen some dramatic final days of the season
17:48
Speaker 1: with h with the NFL, and it could happen again. Unfortunately,
17:53
Speaker 1: the Jets and Giants will not be providing any of
17:56
Speaker 1: that positive drama. So I remember.
18:02
Speaker 2: When they first went to Week eighteen, there was like
18:04
Speaker 2: ninety six scenarios that day. I feel like that's going
18:06
Speaker 2: to be less now because even teams like the Commanders
18:10
Speaker 2: are not the team's team that was last year. I
18:13
Speaker 2: mean a lot of these dips were seeing in real
18:15
Speaker 2: time and the other one I know that about last week.
18:19
Speaker 2: But Vegas has collected. Vegas has you know, almost declined
18:23
Speaker 2: from where they were, shocking because Pete Carroll's supposed to
18:28
Speaker 2: bring them back to the top.
18:29
Speaker 1: Pete Carroll might be one and done. He might be
18:32
Speaker 1: one and done. They might I would be That would
18:36
Speaker 1: not surprise me. That would not surprise me at all.
18:41
Speaker 1: If he's if he's replaced at the end of the year,
18:46
Speaker 1: he's provided really nothing. I know where they have a
18:49
Speaker 1: bad offensive line and things of that nature. But a
18:54
Speaker 1: coach has to help a team overcome those deficiencies. When
19:00
Speaker 1: when a certain area, whether it's the secondary or whether
19:06
Speaker 1: it's the defensive line, or it's the offensive line. Great
19:09
Speaker 1: coaches help overcome those deficiencies, whether it's through injury or
19:14
Speaker 1: just by lack of talent. So I just think he
19:18
Speaker 1: might be he may not. He may not be here,
19:23
Speaker 1: you know, on the sidelines next year. I mean, hey,
19:25
Speaker 1: he's a great coach, but he's also seventy three, seventy
19:29
Speaker 1: four years olds. Well, we've got to see where that
19:31
Speaker 1: where that goes.
19:33
Speaker 2: Someone asks me today Bill Belichick would ever come up here?
19:35
Speaker 2: You know, that would be an interesting reunion if he
19:37
Speaker 2: was with the Giants. But I don't know. Do you
19:38
Speaker 2: see that happening?
19:39
Speaker 1: No, And I can tell you. I can tell you why.
19:42
Speaker 1: This is what I heard from somebody who's very, very
19:45
Speaker 1: close to the situation. There is sandpaper between the New
19:52
Speaker 1: York Giants and Bill Belichick. It goes back to when
19:58
Speaker 1: they hired what they excuse me, when they fired Joe Judge.
20:05
Speaker 1: Belichick was not happy about it. But that's not his business.
20:08
Speaker 1: That's the New York Giants business. Because Joe Judge was
20:12
Speaker 1: one of his guys, and so he made a He
20:19
Speaker 1: texted Brian Flores, who was who interviewed for the Giant job. Hey, Brian, congratulations,
20:25
Speaker 1: I heard you got the job. With the Giants. He
20:29
Speaker 1: texted Belchick back, I didn't get it, but you talk,
20:33
Speaker 1: I got it. I haven't gotten a call from the Giants.
20:36
Speaker 1: So that guy out there, he made it. He tried
20:40
Speaker 1: to make the Giants look foolish and that was all
20:44
Speaker 1: because he was pissed off that they fired Joe Judge.
20:49
Speaker 1: And last year for the Giants had as you know,
20:52
Speaker 1: it was there one hundredth anniversary and they had some
20:56
Speaker 1: events during the season bringing back all player there's some
21:00
Speaker 1: of the players who won Super Bowls for them and
21:03
Speaker 1: individual awards. But Parcells came to an event. Belichick did
21:09
Speaker 1: not get an invite. They didn't want They did not
21:11
Speaker 1: want him around because he was a defensive coordinator on
21:14
Speaker 1: the eighty six and ninety Super Bowl winning teams. So
21:20
Speaker 1: there's there's bad blood there.
21:24
Speaker 2: Oh man. I mean it was interesting because I saw
21:26
Speaker 2: Parcels at the Legends event in Juno last year, and
21:30
Speaker 2: I think he mentioned Belichick club as his as his
21:33
Speaker 2: guy defense. And actually, what I didn't know is Coughland
21:37
Speaker 2: was also on that staff as well under Parcels, so
21:42
Speaker 2: they really kept it in house. But I don't know
21:45
Speaker 2: now he said about this Belichick rift I'm not surprised
21:48
Speaker 2: that they wouldn't bring him back, but it makes the
21:50
Speaker 2: question who they will, because I feel like the coaching
21:52
Speaker 2: pool is so lackluster right now.
21:57
Speaker 1: It really it really is Alex.
21:59
Speaker 3: You know.
21:59
Speaker 1: The funny thing is, you know, you know the story
22:01
Speaker 1: about Lane Kiffin is going to make his decision tomorrow
22:04
Speaker 1: whether he's going to LSU or staying at the University
22:06
Speaker 1: of Mississippi, where he should stay in my opinion, but
22:13
Speaker 1: Joe judges on the University of Mississippi staff, So if
22:18
Speaker 1: he goes to LSU, they said on a telecast today,
22:22
Speaker 1: the ABC telecast today that they're not obviously they're not
22:26
Speaker 1: going to let Lane Kiffin a coach the playoff game
22:32
Speaker 1: which Mississippi will get in. They said the guy who
22:37
Speaker 1: would probably replace him as the interramad coach for the
22:41
Speaker 1: playoff is Joe Judge. How about that? No, get love that,
22:49
Speaker 1: you know, I know it's crazy.
22:52
Speaker 2: Now, there was a monk in that was featured yesterday,
22:55
Speaker 2: by the way, and there was a monk in an
22:57
Speaker 2: army Is it the same guy or a different monkin?
23:00
Speaker 1: They I they might be related, but it's not. I mean,
23:04
Speaker 1: army head coach is still Jeff Munkin. Yeah, I think
23:08
Speaker 1: they related. I think I think they are related. I
23:11
Speaker 1: can't say for sure, but he's he is. Todd Munkin
23:14
Speaker 1: is a very very respected offensive coordinator at both the
23:19
Speaker 1: college and pro level.
23:21
Speaker 3: So, but.
23:25
Speaker 1: The Ravens.
23:26
Speaker 2: By the way, that's the case with Lane Kiffin, you know,
23:29
Speaker 2: that's what happened with Kelly. He didn't coach the Bowl
23:32
Speaker 2: game eight because he's he's spinelessly left her name. I mean,
23:37
Speaker 2: just it was so spineless. And uh, I think that's
23:40
Speaker 2: where Morgan Morgan where Marcus Freeman got his start, because
23:44
Speaker 2: he was the interim then and they got they ended
23:46
Speaker 2: the full time.
23:47
Speaker 1: So yeah, so it's just it's just it's just crazy.
23:53
Speaker 1: But I don't know where who John's gonna go for
23:55
Speaker 1: head coach. I really don't know obviously. Uh you know,
23:58
Speaker 1: well know, first of all, a lot of a lot
24:00
Speaker 1: more many more coaches gonna be fired. Well it used
24:05
Speaker 1: to be Black Monday, but uh now we know usually
24:09
Speaker 1: on Sunday night. There's always one or two head coaches
24:12
Speaker 1: get fired on uh a Sunday night, that last Sunday
24:16
Speaker 1: of the of the of the year.
24:20
Speaker 2: The shamee Bowen thing, though, I mean they waited five
24:22
Speaker 2: weeks to eight, five games too late to fire him.
24:25
Speaker 1: Why they wait so long? Well, again, maybe if if
24:32
Speaker 1: Dexter Lawrence and Thibodeau and played better, and maybe if
24:38
Speaker 1: abdel Carter showed up. He's been an absolute rookie bust.
24:44
Speaker 1: I'm not saying he's gonna be a bust for his career,
24:46
Speaker 1: but he's been a rookie bust. Maybe he wouldn't have
24:50
Speaker 1: gotten fired. You know, it's not always on the coach,
24:55
Speaker 1: you know, so, but I guess, yeah, they could have.
24:57
Speaker 1: They could have fired Shane Bowen could have They could
25:00
Speaker 1: have done it a couple of weeks earlier. Uh, they
25:04
Speaker 1: could have done it when they fired Dable, They could
25:06
Speaker 1: have Kafka could have fired him right away. I mean,
25:09
Speaker 1: he's he's the boss. So I'm sure he could have
25:11
Speaker 1: done it if he felt that. Uh. Uh you know,
25:16
Speaker 1: but he didn't. He didn't fumble against Chicago. Uh you know,
25:20
Speaker 1: dark did you know Bowen didn't do it? Uh? He
25:24
Speaker 1: was that was an offensive player who did it. I'm
25:28
Speaker 1: just using that as one example. I'm not looking to
25:31
Speaker 1: to bash the kid because the kid's been excellent obviously,
25:37
Speaker 1: you know. Now, does he get blamed for abdull Carter
25:41
Speaker 1: not not concentrating on his craft.
25:47
Speaker 2: Is that on him?
25:47
Speaker 1: Is that on Is that on Dable now, Kafka, I.
25:50
Speaker 4: Don't know, you know, uh, all right, I agree Joe
25:58
Speaker 4: Shane should say because I think he has set up
26:01
Speaker 4: such a great core right now with Leak, elite neighbors.
26:06
Speaker 2: I'll do harder on the defense. But I mean the
26:07
Speaker 2: elite neighbors, Dark and Scatt, those are all his guys
26:11
Speaker 2: and if they can win a championship, that will be
26:13
Speaker 2: his team.
26:14
Speaker 1: He said, so far away from a championship, they do
26:16
Speaker 1: not have a great core. Need to do the Jets,
26:19
Speaker 1: they don't. I mean the Giants is the Giants offensive
26:25
Speaker 1: line has done has improved so and you got to
26:30
Speaker 1: give him credit. He did trade up to get Dark.
26:33
Speaker 1: You gotta get Shane credit for that. Like I said,
26:36
Speaker 1: I don't think Blue Carter is going to be a bust.
26:39
Speaker 1: But he's a first year bus But many guys in
26:41
Speaker 1: their first year, you know, don't don't hit the ground running.
26:47
Speaker 1: I thought he would. I thought he would be the
26:49
Speaker 1: defensive player, defensive rookie of the year. So but again
26:54
Speaker 1: he was more interested on going to Monday Night Row
26:57
Speaker 1: with the championship belt over his shoulder. Uh, actually the
27:01
Speaker 1: day he got the day after they sat now laps
27:05
Speaker 1: that first series, Alex, that's a bad look for the guy.
27:09
Speaker 1: So I don't know how dedicated the guy.
27:10
Speaker 2: It was very odd that a guy that's recovering from footing,
27:14
Speaker 2: you know, for that is dangerous.
27:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, that dangerous.
27:18
Speaker 2: But again he's an eccentric kid. But that that takes
27:21
Speaker 2: it too far from me, so you know.
27:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, and again, uh, the guy want the guy
27:26
Speaker 1: wants to win. He's a hard runner. He plays to win.
27:31
Speaker 1: Just you know, he's and again remember he's a kid. Yeah,
27:36
Speaker 1: he's he's a kid. He's out of it. You know,
27:38
Speaker 1: he's's mature a little bit. And you know we see
27:43
Speaker 1: this on in all sports for you know, but the
27:48
Speaker 1: jihnts and another good draft. The one thing is, Alex,
27:51
Speaker 1: the one thing is there's no reason why these teams
27:54
Speaker 1: that are two and nine, two and ten, one and nine,
27:58
Speaker 1: why they can't make at least the seventh spot next
28:02
Speaker 1: year because it changes year to year.
28:06
Speaker 2: There's none of the good guns something this year if
28:08
Speaker 2: they won those five four or five games, I mean,
28:10
Speaker 2: they would have been there and they would have been
28:12
Speaker 2: right there.
28:12
Speaker 1: Well again, a lot of teams could a lot of
28:15
Speaker 1: teams could say that. But yeah, there are some games
28:17
Speaker 1: that the Giants had in their pocket that they.
28:21
Speaker 2: Just let go. Was time and time again.
28:25
Speaker 1: Yeah, the Dallas game Detroit last week. By the way,
28:31
Speaker 1: this will go on to what This is not only
28:33
Speaker 1: what the Giants, this is the entire league. The Giants
28:36
Speaker 1: are up, the Giants are up by three thirty seven
28:41
Speaker 1: to thirty four, and they go for from the three
28:44
Speaker 1: yard line, kick the field goal. All right, your defense
28:47
Speaker 1: isn't good, but let them go for the touchdown. Detroit
28:51
Speaker 1: got to the forty one yard line and the guy
28:53
Speaker 1: kicks a fifty nine yard field goal tie the game.
28:55
Speaker 1: And then Jamiir Gibbs, who's a fantastically under rated running back,
29:02
Speaker 1: he's so underrated, you know, popped up the middle and
29:05
Speaker 1: went for that first touchdown. But they should have got
29:07
Speaker 1: they should have gone to the field goal. We saw
29:09
Speaker 1: it in We saw it in the the Dallas Philly game.
29:15
Speaker 1: They both went for it at times that they that
29:18
Speaker 1: they shouldn't. Dallas say, if they come back from twenty
29:21
Speaker 1: one to nothing, have fourth down at the at the
29:25
Speaker 1: Philly three or four yard line. And dak hits cet
29:29
Speaker 1: Lamb between the eight and the eight and he drops it.
29:32
Speaker 1: But he needed a field goal there. I mean they
29:34
Speaker 1: got lucky. They got the ball back and they got
29:36
Speaker 1: the field goal to win the game. But I don't
29:41
Speaker 1: I analytics, Alex to my date, my day ten years ago,
29:46
Speaker 1: in your day eleven years you would never see that
29:49
Speaker 1: they were at the field goal. The Jets are down
29:51
Speaker 1: ten to seven. I know that's going They're going nowhere,
29:54
Speaker 1: but you do play to win the game. Six and
29:57
Speaker 1: a half minutes to go in the third quarter, fourth
29:59
Speaker 1: and two, had your own forty two forty six. I
30:02
Speaker 1: believe it was forty six. He decides to go for
30:05
Speaker 1: it and Justin Field is clueless, and of course the
30:11
Speaker 1: fourth down play one, right, I don't get it. I'm
30:14
Speaker 1: watching the Eagles and the Bears today. The Bears are
30:19
Speaker 1: up twenty four to nine, and they were the better
30:21
Speaker 1: team today by far. But the Eagles score, you know,
30:27
Speaker 1: touchdown pass two to AJ Brown. You know he got
30:30
Speaker 1: not He had like fourteen talks today, so AJ Brown
30:33
Speaker 1: probably is happy. He probably doesn't give a crap that
30:37
Speaker 1: his team lost, but he has two touchdowns, so they
30:40
Speaker 1: make it twenty four out of fifteen, so they're nine
30:42
Speaker 1: points down. Syrianny goes for a two point conversion. You
30:47
Speaker 1: don't go for the two point conversion there, you kick
30:51
Speaker 1: the field, you kick the extra point to make a
30:53
Speaker 1: twenty four to sixteen because you're one score behind, they
30:57
Speaker 1: go for two. They don't get it. So they had
31:01
Speaker 1: nine points behind, like with you know, with less than
31:04
Speaker 1: five minutes to go, and so then they try the
31:08
Speaker 1: on side kicking. With these new on side kick rules,
31:10
Speaker 1: your chances of recovering it are are less than ever
31:14
Speaker 1: even with the original on side kick rules. You didn't have.
31:18
Speaker 1: It was a low percentage play, but there was three
31:21
Speaker 1: tends to go in the game, and you kick thee
31:25
Speaker 1: you play defense. They still had a couple of timeouts left.
31:29
Speaker 1: I don't know why you go for two there. First
31:32
Speaker 1: of all, it changes the mindset of the players on
31:35
Speaker 1: the field. Their mental mindset. Oh, we're nine down, it's
31:38
Speaker 1: really impossible. We need we got we need two scores.
31:42
Speaker 1: But if it's twenty four to sixteen, okay, we gotta
31:46
Speaker 1: get the ball back. We'll score and then we have
31:47
Speaker 1: a chance to the two point conversion. We get two
31:50
Speaker 1: pointed version, we'll tie the game. I don't I don't
31:53
Speaker 1: know why they went for the two point conversion. And
31:57
Speaker 1: you see that all the time, so it's not only Syrian.
32:00
Speaker 1: I don't know. These guys out think themselves. It's just crazy,
32:10
Speaker 1: it really is. But I you know, I have no
32:13
Speaker 1: idea what's gonna happen. You know you got the Buffalo Bills, Alex,
32:17
Speaker 1: they can stop Mayo U. Their run defense is so bad.
32:22
Speaker 2: By the way, it's funny about Philly, right, so last
32:24
Speaker 2: year they win the ring, but it's like a New
32:26
Speaker 2: York sports town there too, so the reporters and the
32:30
Speaker 2: media is probably gonna be like, what the hell, I know,
32:32
Speaker 2: we just won last year, but let's fire Siriotti, like
32:35
Speaker 2: you what are those chimps are gonna start?
32:36
Speaker 1: Well, I think you're You're probably right, and uh.
32:41
Speaker 2: Not even Santa State today or and he left early,
32:43
Speaker 2: so you know, a rough day in Philly, that's for sure.
32:48
Speaker 2: But no, I'm uh it's a little bit of a shocker.
32:54
Speaker 2: But also show as the Chiefs. So I think we're
32:56
Speaker 2: gona have a totally different Super Bowl next year. I
32:58
Speaker 2: don't think both teams are gonna be in it. I
33:00
Speaker 2: think we're gonna have ooh I mean den can't really
33:06
Speaker 2: compete now, that's for sure, I know, but Denver looks
33:10
Speaker 2: like a leading candidate right now to be on the
33:13
Speaker 2: AFC side, at least versus Well I said, I think.
33:16
Speaker 2: I said, Denver versus New England would make an interesting
33:19
Speaker 2: AFC championship game.
33:20
Speaker 1: I would watch that game. Yeah, I mean, it's not
33:25
Speaker 1: Peyton Manning against Tom Brady like in two thousand and uh,
33:29
Speaker 1: you know, fifteen sixteen.
33:31
Speaker 2: But I'm not I'm not a I'm not a Patriot fan,
33:35
Speaker 2: but I can appreciate what Drake May has done up there,
33:38
Speaker 2: Like it is amazing to watch that turnaround for that team.
33:41
Speaker 2: A because he's just a great quarterback. I mean I
33:43
Speaker 2: say that if there's any team, He's got a great
33:46
Speaker 2: poise about him. It's interesting to watch him for a
33:49
Speaker 2: second year guy.
33:49
Speaker 1: He has great poise, he does. He also has a
33:52
Speaker 1: great offensive coordinator. But Alex, he doesn't have great plays
33:55
Speaker 1: around him. And that's what makes it more impressive. He's
34:00
Speaker 1: the Patriots are going to put skill position players around
34:04
Speaker 1: him to make him better. Now they might be without
34:07
Speaker 1: the left side of their line on Monday night, so well,
34:13
Speaker 1: you know, again, it changes we tweak Campbell's out for
34:16
Speaker 1: at least the next four games. They're left tackle a
34:19
Speaker 1: guy who protects his blind side, so everything changes. I'm
34:27
Speaker 1: not sold on them, but they've done and not a
34:31
Speaker 1: good job, like you said, they've done a spectacular job.
34:34
Speaker 2: And Okay, I want to switch gears because I don't
34:36
Speaker 2: know if you saw my monologue earlier in the week
34:38
Speaker 2: about Brend and Nimo, and I want to get your
34:41
Speaker 2: thoughts on this. Uh huh. But Nimo is the third
34:44
Speaker 2: guy that really said, Okay, I spent a lot of
34:47
Speaker 2: time here with this team. I've gave him my heart,
34:50
Speaker 2: sweat and tears, but I have to move along by
34:53
Speaker 2: simply rejecting the note, by simply opting for the no
34:57
Speaker 2: trade clause and waving it. Really, he made that decision
35:01
Speaker 2: like Crider did. And I don't know if Tavaris did
35:03
Speaker 2: to an extent, but I feel like he had to
35:05
Speaker 2: say whether he was gonna stay.
35:06
Speaker 1: No, No, he was just a free agent. He screwed the
35:09
Speaker 1: Islanders at the end. The Islanders should have traded them
35:11
Speaker 1: at the trade deadline if lamorel If Lou Lamorello was there,
35:15
Speaker 1: he would have done that.
35:17
Speaker 2: Well, all three of these guys, I mentioned sort of
35:19
Speaker 2: said it was time to move along and maybe they
35:22
Speaker 2: were getting too old for all of the way these
35:24
Speaker 2: these teams were operating. I mean, I feel like these
35:28
Speaker 2: three are examples of how New York is losing its
35:32
Speaker 2: staying power. Except Aaron judge that you signed a nine
35:35
Speaker 2: year deal, But for the most part, they're losing their
35:38
Speaker 2: staying power. How do we get back to a city
35:39
Speaker 2: that people want to play in long term career players.
35:43
Speaker 2: I'm talking lifetime career players, Louis. I feel like we're
35:46
Speaker 2: losing that aspect.
35:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, I think for the most part, we all loved
35:50
Speaker 1: United in sports, No why usually plays their entire career
35:56
Speaker 1: with one team anymore, no matter what the sport is.
36:00
Speaker 1: You talk about a guy like John Tavares, he went
36:03
Speaker 1: to Toronto. Toronto and Montreal are the two toughest teams,
36:07
Speaker 1: excuse me, the two toughest towns to play in as
36:10
Speaker 1: far as media scrutiny and the Leafs are under a microscope.
36:19
Speaker 1: By the way, John Tavares is having not a good
36:21
Speaker 1: year this year. He is the best player on the
36:23
Speaker 1: Maple Leafs. So far this year, He's been tremendous. He's
36:27
Speaker 1: a future Hall of Famer, he's gone over five hundred goals,
36:31
Speaker 1: and he re signed I believe it or not. His
36:34
Speaker 1: first seven year contract finished last year and he signed
36:39
Speaker 1: with back with Toronto at a significant discount to stay
36:42
Speaker 1: in Toronto. Toronto. As far as Brandon Nemo goes, I
36:47
Speaker 1: don't like the trade. I really don't. I'm not saying
36:51
Speaker 1: that I want to put Nimo in the trade. They
36:54
Speaker 1: wanted to get younger and more athletic. Well, he might
36:59
Speaker 1: be an upgrade defense, believe Marcus Simeon. And he's a
37:01
Speaker 1: former top three MVP in two separate seasons, but the
37:05
Speaker 1: last two years have been some par as far as
37:08
Speaker 1: offensively goes. But he's a he's a plus defender and
37:13
Speaker 1: they're looking to upgrade the defense of the Mets. And
37:19
Speaker 1: there you know. David Sterns is big on run prevention. Yes,
37:22
Speaker 1: run prevention is important. I do believe that, but you
37:27
Speaker 1: also have to score runs. And Brandon Nimo the last
37:30
Speaker 1: two years drove a ninety and ninety two runs. He
37:33
Speaker 1: gets on base, he always has a high on base percentage.
37:37
Speaker 1: He's three years younger than Marcus Simeon, So that was
37:41
Speaker 1: curious to me, Alex. I never expected the trade. Who
37:45
Speaker 1: he got trade for if he was included in a
37:48
Speaker 1: deal for Strubel to reach Strubel a pitcher for Detroit
37:52
Speaker 1: who is going to be a free agency agent at
37:55
Speaker 1: the end of twenty twenty six. I do not. I
37:58
Speaker 1: mean Barrig miracle. He is not going to resign with Detroit.
38:02
Speaker 1: I could see something like that. I was really hoping
38:07
Speaker 1: that the Mets would go after Dante vischett as a
38:10
Speaker 1: free agent and put him at second base. And he's
38:12
Speaker 1: twenty seven years old, and he's a better player than
38:15
Speaker 1: Marcus Simeon. So I'm well, while I I'm not gonna
38:20
Speaker 1: judge this trade until the Mets offseason is complete. They
38:27
Speaker 1: got to get a center fielder. They got to get
38:29
Speaker 1: a left fielder. We hear that they're interested in Bellinger.
38:32
Speaker 1: We hear that they're interested in Kyle Tucker. I don't
38:35
Speaker 1: think they get both, but they'll probably get one Kyle.
38:38
Speaker 1: If you ask me which one I take. While I
38:40
Speaker 1: love Belencher's versatility, I would rather have Kyle Tucker. He's younger,
38:46
Speaker 1: he's more productive offensively. I don't know if I'm starting
38:52
Speaker 1: to believe the Mets are not going to resign Peter
38:55
Speaker 1: A Lonzo Alex, I really am so, but I'm not
38:58
Speaker 1: gonna I'm not going to uh give a final grade
39:02
Speaker 1: until the postseason signing to roll over.
39:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no, and I will. I will say this though,
39:11
Speaker 2: Nimo waving the trade click trade Club no trade close,
39:15
Speaker 2: told me he had seen how the internal operations is working.
39:19
Speaker 2: Maybe he's not happy. And as someone's that have sterns,
39:21
Speaker 2: one of them gone. I guess you just said, okay,
39:23
Speaker 2: I'll leave. You know, It's just it's it's a very
39:26
Speaker 2: disappointing split. I did not expect him to be gone.
39:30
Speaker 1: Like I said, I'm not surprised he was traded, because
39:33
Speaker 1: anybody can get traded, but I'm surprised was traded for
39:38
Speaker 1: that's all that that surprised me.
39:43
Speaker 2: But yeah, the off season has been kind of dead
39:46
Speaker 2: right now. I mean, nothing crazy has been going on,
39:48
Speaker 2: So we'll have to see what happens, you know, and
39:51
Speaker 2: Boris guys normally don't sign now till opening till trading
39:54
Speaker 2: spring training, so I'm not surprised.
39:56
Speaker 1: Well, when the meetings, the winter meetings start, you know,
39:59
Speaker 1: ord December tenth, we'll hear something there. I do not
40:04
Speaker 1: understand the signing the other day, by the American League
40:09
Speaker 1: champion Toronto Blue Jays signing a very mediocre pitcher coming
40:13
Speaker 1: off a bad year, Dylan Cees, to a thirty million
40:19
Speaker 1: dollars deal for seven years, two hundred and ten million dollars.
40:24
Speaker 1: I don't get it. I mean, if they if it
40:27
Speaker 1: was a three year deal at twenty five okay, but
40:32
Speaker 1: a seven year deal at a total of two hundred
40:35
Speaker 1: and ten million, the Toronto Blue Jays will be kicking
40:39
Speaker 1: themselves with that. I really believe that.
40:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it was. It was a bit of a shocker.
40:46
Speaker 2: I thought they were doing it to bolster their rotation.
40:48
Speaker 2: But we'll have to see what happens for them in
40:51
Speaker 2: that signing.
40:51
Speaker 1: Now.
40:51
Speaker 2: I thought it was a pretty big signing. Actually, that
40:53
Speaker 2: just fell under the radar, so right now, it did.
40:55
Speaker 1: Fell It did fall under the radars. It absolutely fell
40:58
Speaker 1: under the radar.
41:00
Speaker 2: Well, Louis, I always love to be all around the
41:02
Speaker 2: time of the year because Thanksgiving history lesson and I
41:06
Speaker 2: know the people may have listened last year. What's your
41:09
Speaker 2: favorite Thanksgiving memory?
41:11
Speaker 1: Though?
41:11
Speaker 2: For those listening for the first time, NFL will on
41:16
Speaker 2: the NFL, Yes, sir, Well, in.
41:18
Speaker 1: The NFL, there was there's been some not some as
41:24
Speaker 1: far as memorable games, but yesterday's Dallas Kannessee game was
41:28
Speaker 1: not a classic, but it was a very entertaining game
41:33
Speaker 1: between the two biggest brands in the NFL, and CBS
41:36
Speaker 1: is hoping to try to hit fifty million. The ratings
41:39
Speaker 1: haven't come out yet, so we'll see how high or
41:42
Speaker 1: how close they got to fifty million viewers. And that
41:45
Speaker 1: was a close game all the way, so they might
41:47
Speaker 1: they might have hit fifty million viewers, which would be
41:50
Speaker 1: an old time NFL regular season record. But I mean
41:54
Speaker 1: there's been some, you know, some great some great moments.
42:00
Speaker 1: I guess the best game as far as drama goes
42:05
Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy four. I guess it was nineteen seventy four. Yes,
42:10
Speaker 1: Clint Longley, the backup to Roger Stawback, has fifteen minutes
42:15
Speaker 1: of fame. Roger was injured early in the game. I
42:20
Speaker 1: think they were down like sixteen to nothing or sixteen
42:22
Speaker 1: to three to their biggest rivals. Then now it's the Eagles,
42:26
Speaker 1: then it was the it was the Washington Redskins. And
42:31
Speaker 1: he threw two touchdown passes late. I believe one long
42:35
Speaker 1: down the left sideline to Pearson. I might have been Pearson,
42:39
Speaker 1: but all you know, they had so many great receivers
42:42
Speaker 1: and they won seventeen to sixteen, and that was his
42:44
Speaker 1: fifteen minutes of fame. In nineteen seventy six, O. J.
42:50
Speaker 1: Simpson ran for I then wreckord to seventy three against
42:53
Speaker 1: the Lions in the Superdome, which no longer exists. But
42:58
Speaker 1: they lost the game, and because they couldn't complete the pass.
43:03
Speaker 1: I think Gary Morange was like four for twenty five
43:05
Speaker 1: or something like that. Then, of course there's the famous
43:09
Speaker 1: leon Let game in the snow I guess it was
43:12
Speaker 1: in ninety three, and I remember I remember watching that game.
43:16
Speaker 1: It was just unbelievable. Miami's going for the game winning
43:21
Speaker 1: field goal down fourteen to thirteen, and that the Cowboys
43:26
Speaker 1: blocked the kick, but the ball rolls passed the line
43:29
Speaker 1: of scrimmage. So once he goes past the line of scrimmage,
43:33
Speaker 1: the team that blocked the kick should not touch the football.
43:38
Speaker 1: And it was a snowy field in Dallas, and led
43:44
Speaker 1: touched it and Miami recovered, so it was a change
43:48
Speaker 1: of possession. So Janovitch Panovitch came in again. This time
43:52
Speaker 1: he kicked the twenty yard field goal and Dallas lost
43:56
Speaker 1: sixteen to fourteen. They went to the Super Bowl again,
43:58
Speaker 1: they won it. But that's just thank Giving Day situation,
44:04
Speaker 1: you know. And you know, a couple of years in
44:06
Speaker 1: seventy five and in seventy seven, Saint Louis hosted the
44:10
Speaker 1: late game, not Dallas. And in seventy seven Bob Greasi
44:18
Speaker 1: threw six touchdown passes and they scored like fifty five
44:21
Speaker 1: points on Saint Louis. And from seven day eight on,
44:25
Speaker 1: Dallas has has had the the you know, the four
44:29
Speaker 1: o'clock on now four to thirty game on Thanksgiving. They
44:35
Speaker 1: lobbied for it in the early sixties. I mean, it
44:37
Speaker 1: was just it was just Detroit hosted from thirty four on.
44:43
Speaker 1: And I think the only time Idion host it was
44:45
Speaker 1: a couple of years during World War Two. For thirteen years,
44:51
Speaker 1: thirteen years, I believe Green Bay and Detroit played every
44:56
Speaker 1: year on Thanksgiving.
44:57
Speaker 2: And yeah, I remember that.
45:01
Speaker 1: And so that was from fifty one to sixty three.
45:05
Speaker 1: And then in sixty two the Packers were ten and oh,
45:08
Speaker 1: I didn't see this, Alex, I didn't see this game
45:11
Speaker 1: in sixty two, but there were ten and oh, it's
45:15
Speaker 1: a famous game. The Lions pounded arch Star, the Hall
45:20
Speaker 1: of Fame quarterback. It was probably the sixty two team
45:23
Speaker 1: arguably was probably the best of all the Lombardi teams.
45:27
Speaker 1: They sacked Barchstar eleven times, and Lombardi says, I don't
45:34
Speaker 1: want to play on Thanksgiving Day anymore. You know, I'll
45:36
Speaker 1: play here in Detroit anymore. They did have one more
45:39
Speaker 1: year to go and in sixty three, but then Lombardi
45:43
Speaker 1: got his way and didn't play on Thanksgiving Day for
45:45
Speaker 1: the rest of his coaching career. I believe so. Then.
45:48
Speaker 1: But Dallas when they came in a league in sixty
45:51
Speaker 1: sixty one, a couple of years in they lobbied to
45:56
Speaker 1: play on Thanksgiving. And in nineteen sixty six they played
46:01
Speaker 1: for the first time. And that was the first year
46:04
Speaker 1: Dallas was any good. That's the first year they actually
46:07
Speaker 1: were over five hundred. And they lost the NFL Championship
46:11
Speaker 1: game new to green Bay in the cotton Ball thirty
46:14
Speaker 1: four to twenty seven in a spectacular game, which is
46:17
Speaker 1: spectacular ending. And then the next year was the famous
46:19
Speaker 1: Ice Bowl where green Bay won on with you know,
46:25
Speaker 1: thirteen seconds to go, and uh but that that that
46:31
Speaker 1: was That was a f That was a fame. That
46:33
Speaker 1: was a famous game too. But yeah, so that and
46:36
Speaker 1: then you know they started about they start about eighteen,
46:39
Speaker 1: well two thousand and six, I guess first on the
46:41
Speaker 1: NFL network. Uh you know, now it's on Prime Video.
46:45
Speaker 1: I mean now it's on NBC. Excuse me with the
46:50
Speaker 1: with the night game and that and the teams.
46:52
Speaker 5: Rotate, but uh, you know, it's it's football football on
46:57
Speaker 5: We did venture to see the Jets play of the
47:00
Speaker 5: Bengals in one of the first Thursday night Thanksgiving games.
47:04
Speaker 2: I forget that because that was we actually just got
47:07
Speaker 2: tickets right outside the stadium and rolled right in and
47:09
Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, we were watching football on Thanksgiving. So
47:12
Speaker 2: that was really a special And that was the.
47:13
Speaker 1: Second year that the Jets went to theay AFC Championship game. Then,
47:17
Speaker 1: of course, a couple of years later they got killed
47:18
Speaker 1: by New Englant forty nine nineteen the overrated butt fumble,
47:24
Speaker 1: which is not a big deal, but you know, just
47:25
Speaker 1: he just ran into a guy. New England scored like
47:29
Speaker 1: three touchdowns in two minutes.
47:32
Speaker 2: Well he growing up for me, watching Barry Sanders every
47:35
Speaker 2: Thanksgiving was sort of a tradition. I mean, he was
47:38
Speaker 2: there in the nineties, and I remember watching him pretty
47:40
Speaker 2: pretty closely back in those arabatic on things. Heving he
47:44
Speaker 2: only Thanksgiving sometimes actually, but no.
47:47
Speaker 1: He was great back Obviously, there was a long stretch
47:50
Speaker 1: and I forget if it was eight or nine losses
47:52
Speaker 1: in a row for the for the home team Detroit
47:56
Speaker 1: on thanks on Thanksgiving Day, I mean, and I think
48:00
Speaker 1: pay Manning one year when he was still with Indy
48:02
Speaker 1: before he went to Denver, he threw six stup jump
48:05
Speaker 1: passes in Detroit and killed them. And but that's why, Yes,
48:10
Speaker 1: they were so disappointing for for Detroit. Now, you know
48:14
Speaker 1: they are considered to be a big team, and you
48:17
Speaker 1: know they have Let's face it, they shouldn't have been
48:20
Speaker 1: the Giants. They should have lost to the Giants. They
48:26
Speaker 1: you know, did save them with there were those amazing
48:29
Speaker 1: runs and they needed a fifty nine yard field goal
48:32
Speaker 1: to get the game the overtime. Yeah. I know, these
48:34
Speaker 1: guys have atomic legs, but still a fifty nine yard
48:36
Speaker 1: field goal, even if indoors is a fifty nine yard
48:39
Speaker 1: field goal. Yeah. So then now now after Thanksgiving, now
48:45
Speaker 1: we're truly in a stretch round of the NFL season.
48:48
Speaker 1: The best college game on Thanksgiving was in nineteen seventy
48:52
Speaker 1: one when Nebraska and Oklahoma won two. They both played
48:56
Speaker 1: in the same conference, then the Big Eight, then it
48:58
Speaker 1: became the Big Twelve, and there were so many great
49:02
Speaker 1: players on both those teams and Johnny Rodgers Heisman Trophy winner.
49:10
Speaker 1: Nebraska beat Oklahoma in Oklahoma thirty five to thirty one.
49:14
Speaker 1: That was probably as good a college game as I
49:18
Speaker 1: ever saw. That was on Thanksgiving. It was early. It
49:20
Speaker 1: was like a one or two o'clock kickoff on ABC.
49:26
Speaker 1: And yeah, that was a phenomenal game. That was one
49:29
Speaker 1: of the best college games of all time. The eighty
49:31
Speaker 1: four Orange Bowl between my between Miami and Nebraska was
49:37
Speaker 1: obviously the national championship game. At the Rose Bowl between
49:42
Speaker 1: USC and Texas was when Vince Young I ran to
49:48
Speaker 1: the to the flag and just got in the end zone.
49:53
Speaker 1: That was an amazing game. And I think that might
49:56
Speaker 1: have that might have been Pete Carroll's last game with Texas,
50:00
Speaker 1: I'm before he left the NFL. But no, this is
50:05
Speaker 1: what meant. This is why we're sports fans, Alex Oh.
50:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's it's a lot all right. One one
50:11
Speaker 2: other thing springing of college football tomorrow.
50:15
Speaker 1: Is the game.
50:17
Speaker 2: And I always find it fun to watch Michigan and
50:20
Speaker 2: Ohio State. And I'm sure you've been watching that rivalry forever.
50:25
Speaker 1: Yep, yep. I remember. I remember in nineteen sixty nine,
50:30
Speaker 1: Michigan was an okay team. They weren't going anywhere. Ohio
50:36
Speaker 1: State was undefeated, and they upset them in an arbor,
50:41
Speaker 1: upset Ohio State in n Aubor Jim Mandic who became
50:46
Speaker 1: the tight end for the undefeated Dolphins in seventy two,
50:50
Speaker 1: for a couple of touchdown passes in that game, and
50:54
Speaker 1: they knocked Ohio State from the ranks of the unbeaten
50:58
Speaker 1: and that was that was a memorable game. And then
51:00
Speaker 1: really after that, the Boat Chambackler versus Woody Hayes rivalry
51:07
Speaker 1: he kicked off. Even though Michigan wasn't great in sixty eight,
51:12
Speaker 1: then they became great and they every year was Ohio
51:16
Speaker 1: State of Michigan. Who's going to go to the Rose Bowl?
51:19
Speaker 1: Because remember those days up until you know, until not
51:23
Speaker 1: so long ago, you were tied in to, you know,
51:28
Speaker 1: certain bowl games, and obviously since nineteen forty eight until
51:31
Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, the Rose Bowl was the
51:35
Speaker 1: PAC twelve champion against the Big ten champion. That was
51:40
Speaker 1: that was great in the middle of the you know,
51:42
Speaker 1: around five o'clock on New Year's Day while you just
51:45
Speaker 1: you know, you're just sitting on the sofa watching football
51:47
Speaker 1: all day. That that was the best ball game, the
51:50
Speaker 1: Pac ten versus the Pac twelve. It became later on
51:54
Speaker 1: against the Big ten and for a while the Big
51:57
Speaker 1: ten team could not could not be to pack. Uh.
52:01
Speaker 2: Well, your recall never ceases to amaze, Louis. I'm impressed
52:06
Speaker 2: that you know all of this years later, and that's
52:09
Speaker 2: why we have yelling. You have this historical thing. Now,
52:11
Speaker 2: what do you think before? On a personal note, it
52:14
Speaker 2: is things, I mean weekend, what do you think.
52:15
Speaker 1: Before, Louis Alex, I'm thankful that that I know you
52:20
Speaker 1: first and foremost, and I'm very, very thankful that I
52:24
Speaker 1: have friends like you, and uh, I have so many
52:29
Speaker 1: good friends in this world that have supported me, and
52:32
Speaker 1: uh great family members that great brothers, I mean, that's
52:39
Speaker 1: first and foremost, and.
52:42
Speaker 2: And her health with you, that's very I do.
52:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, my knees are a little shot, my
52:49
Speaker 1: foot is not so great, but for the most part, yeah,
52:53
Speaker 1: I'm healthy. So I thank the Good Lord.
52:55
Speaker 2: For that maybe we'll get into it in another episode,
52:58
Speaker 2: but also this week at the same time, and you
53:00
Speaker 2: had seen Hall in the Johnny's kind of playing consecutive
53:03
Speaker 2: nights here, uh Saint John's, I think only one to one.
53:07
Speaker 2: They came out of it losing two out of three.
53:11
Speaker 2: A bit of a shaky stretch for them in the
53:13
Speaker 2: last few games. And then see I's been doing okay though.
53:17
Speaker 1: I was so impressed with seen Hall in the Maui Invitational, Alex.
53:22
Speaker 1: I can't tell you how how impressed I was. They'd
53:26
Speaker 1: be twenty three ranked, twenty third ranked North Carolina State.
53:30
Speaker 1: In the first game again, they really went white to wire.
53:34
Speaker 1: They played great defense, Their talent level is better than
53:38
Speaker 1: it was last year. They should have beaten USC. They
53:42
Speaker 1: lost by two and just a couple of a couple
53:46
Speaker 1: of minutes stretch away you couldn't put the ball in
53:47
Speaker 1: the basket. And but they should have beaten USC, and
53:51
Speaker 1: then and and then and then they took U Paul
53:56
Speaker 1: Washington straight State. They were never in trouble. And he
54:00
Speaker 1: really got to give it to Shahan Holloway. He's an
54:02
Speaker 1: excellent coach. He has them playing on every hard on
54:05
Speaker 1: every possession. He has some talent. H you know, his
54:08
Speaker 1: team was picked last in the Big East this year.
54:14
Speaker 1: I I don't think they're gonna finish last and may not.
54:17
Speaker 1: They may not be an NCAA A team, I don't
54:21
Speaker 1: think so. But they're not going to be the seven
54:23
Speaker 1: and twenty five team that day that they were last year.
54:26
Speaker 1: I mean, they've got seven wins already. So he's a
54:30
Speaker 1: heck of a coach. Now I'm starting to wonder see
54:33
Speaker 1: home and be able to keep him because of course,
54:35
Speaker 1: in this in this age of nil and transfer portal,
54:39
Speaker 1: he don't have the money. I mean, I mean, Alex,
54:42
Speaker 1: there was this kid, Elijah Fisher on shol did a
54:46
Speaker 1: nice job so far this year. Four teams in four years,
54:50
Speaker 1: so he's gone. He's gone four different colleges in four years.
54:54
Speaker 1: And you see that throughout college basketball. It's crazy. It's crazy.
54:59
Speaker 1: I don't even on the all of college anymore. Alex.
55:01
Speaker 1: We got to come up for a different designation, Uh
55:04
Speaker 1: Triple A sports, whether it's college basketball or college football,
55:08
Speaker 1: college hockey. You know, uh Triple A. It's not semi
55:14
Speaker 1: pro because they're not semi pros. They're all pros. They're pro.
55:19
Speaker 2: You know this is uh, this is not your average
55:24
Speaker 2: college world. And of course Union's unionization all that. I
55:28
Speaker 2: mean that there's a lot that got us to where
55:29
Speaker 2: we're at now. It's like, how about that kid in
55:32
Speaker 2: the UCLA who refused to go and then I figure
55:36
Speaker 2: which team was going to be at Then he goes
55:38
Speaker 2: over to u c l A. I mean, I think
55:39
Speaker 2: it was Tennessee. I could be wrong, but it was
55:42
Speaker 2: very odd. I'm like, this is where we're at, where
55:45
Speaker 2: these kids can decide where they want to play that
55:47
Speaker 2: when did that happen?
55:48
Speaker 1: I'm not against an aylof. They're gonna use my name,
55:51
Speaker 1: image and likeness. I should get something for that. But
55:55
Speaker 1: it went way, It went way past that. It's gone
55:58
Speaker 1: so far past that, and I think it hurts the game.
56:02
Speaker 1: First of all, you know, you've got to you have
56:05
Speaker 1: to each year it's going to be a new team.
56:08
Speaker 1: And what made the rivalsry is great in college basketball?
56:13
Speaker 1: Syracuse against Georgetown, the same players were there three four
56:18
Speaker 1: years in a row. You wing against Syracuse, Beheim against
56:23
Speaker 1: against coach Thompson, and you look forward to those games. Now,
56:28
Speaker 1: those rivalries like say Carolina and Duke, maybe the greatest
56:32
Speaker 1: rivalry Kentucky and Louisville. Now the rivalry is just just
56:38
Speaker 1: just Jersey, just the two universities. It's not the players,
56:43
Speaker 1: because the players that are playing on Carolina and Duke
56:47
Speaker 1: this year of them aren't gonna be on Carolina or
56:50
Speaker 1: Duke next year.
56:53
Speaker 2: And then but I said, remember, I was like, who
56:54
Speaker 2: won the championship this year? Because I can't remember who
56:56
Speaker 2: wins the championship anymore?
56:58
Speaker 1: All right? And you certain used to know any college
57:03
Speaker 1: basketball fan knew the regional finals the final four. It's
57:08
Speaker 1: not the same. And I don't you know, I don't
57:09
Speaker 1: really think it's I don't think it's good for the sport,
57:12
Speaker 1: but what can I say?
57:15
Speaker 2: But we watch anyway because it's interesting. And then you
57:17
Speaker 2: have this other issue with the gambling. I mean, this
57:19
Speaker 2: kid from Temple getting betting against his own program, Like it's.
57:24
Speaker 1: You know, we know that we knew that was gonna happen, Alex.
57:27
Speaker 1: We knew that was gonna be that there was gonna
57:29
Speaker 1: be issues there.
57:30
Speaker 3: All right.
57:30
Speaker 2: I want to get a Terminos take on one last thing,
57:33
Speaker 2: because a week after we didn't talk about this, a
57:37
Speaker 2: week after these guys were arrested, you know, Phillips and
57:40
Speaker 2: all that were arrested for the gambling rig ESPA goes
57:44
Speaker 2: inside a ten year deal with DraftKings or one of those,
57:47
Speaker 2: and I'm like, isn't the point not to get involved
57:50
Speaker 2: with that? Like why go further with it?
57:52
Speaker 1: But okay, Alex, it's all about the Greenbacks.
57:58
Speaker 2: It's it's extremely fresh trading and it's starting to really
58:03
Speaker 2: piss me off because we used to think that sport
58:05
Speaker 2: doesn't escape from the corruption and everything. Right, I mean,
58:08
Speaker 2: this is ridiculous.
58:09
Speaker 1: We did, we did, You're right, all right, Louie.
58:13
Speaker 2: Well we'll calm down, enjoy the rest of our leftover turkey,
58:17
Speaker 2: and enjoy this week. I mean, I can't believe what
58:20
Speaker 2: is it? Week thirteen already? This is gonna get a
58:22
Speaker 2: fast time. You have to season zips by, And as
58:27
Speaker 2: Brendlarin said, the Bears are not the only Chicago team
58:31
Speaker 2: reinventing themselves. The black Hawks look pretty good finally, and
58:35
Speaker 2: the Bulls, I mean they've been having a pretty good
58:37
Speaker 2: start so far.
58:38
Speaker 1: So yeah, no, they have and you know, just the
58:41
Speaker 1: black Hawks. So they made some nice draft picks, and
58:45
Speaker 1: as we talked about in the past last week, you know,
58:49
Speaker 1: these up and coming teams like Anaheim and San Jose.
58:53
Speaker 1: They nailed their draft picks and Chicago did also, and
58:58
Speaker 1: they're interesting. They're interesting to watch, I mean, and obviously
59:03
Speaker 1: even with the Islanders, I don't know if they're gonna
59:06
Speaker 1: make the players not, but they're interesting to watch. But
59:08
Speaker 1: they've suffered some major injuries. J. G. Pajo is out
59:12
Speaker 1: gone also how long in today's game, a game that
59:15
Speaker 1: they lost in the shootout four to three, they were
59:17
Speaker 1: down three nothing, they tie it up Kyle Palm, everyone
59:22
Speaker 1: flying into the boards behind the flyer's goal and it
59:28
Speaker 1: looks like he hurt his knee, and of course, you know,
59:31
Speaker 1: the Islanders just say it's a lower body injuries, so
59:33
Speaker 1: we'll never know. So the Islands are getting are a
59:36
Speaker 1: little short with some key guys, so we'll see what happens.
59:40
Speaker 1: But they, you know, they've been at least fun to watch,
59:43
Speaker 1: unlike unlike my Jets, who are not fun to watch.
59:50
Speaker 2: Shaper is the man.
59:51
Speaker 1: By the way.
59:51
Speaker 2: I'm seeing Brooksy honored everywhere, including Boston lately, and I
59:55
Speaker 2: gotta give credit to Molly Walker. She is such a
59:58
Speaker 2: valiant reporter for the Post. I get her text messages
1:00:01
Speaker 2: about who's in who's out. The morning Skate. I mean, yeah,
1:00:04
Speaker 2: me too. I get them too, And it's fun to
1:00:08
Speaker 2: kind of be on the be that in depth with
1:00:10
Speaker 2: this team now. So it's good him, her and Sears
1:00:14
Speaker 2: are doing a great job.
1:00:15
Speaker 1: They're doing a great job. They're doing a great job, Alex,
1:00:18
Speaker 1: they really are said last week, I wish we could
1:00:21
Speaker 1: go back a little bit to the old days of reporting.
1:00:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, and brook and Brooksy was not afraid to
1:00:28
Speaker 2: test the waters with some of these guys, So you know,
1:00:30
Speaker 2: it was fun. Hey, one last thing. College football is
1:00:35
Speaker 2: coming to an end tomorrow and I am planning wherever
1:00:39
Speaker 2: Notre Dame goes, I want to go and watch them
1:00:40
Speaker 2: in the playoffs. I mean, they're going to be a
1:00:42
Speaker 2: playoff team, right, there's nothing about it.
1:00:44
Speaker 1: I mean unless they get upset pips Stanford, which seems yes,
1:00:52
Speaker 1: you gotta play a game, which seems incredibly unlikely. I'm
1:00:55
Speaker 1: sure they're likes four touchdown favorites. Yeah, they'll be in
1:00:59
Speaker 1: a playoff. They might play Oklahoma.
1:01:04
Speaker 2: Well that's that's what's interesting, because my dad's from Oklahoma.
1:01:07
Speaker 2: So what if I went down there to my dad's
1:01:09
Speaker 2: home state and watched him play. That would be something.
1:01:12
Speaker 2: So you never know, Louis. I went to Boston College.
1:01:15
Speaker 2: I can always expand and go further and see him elsewhere.
1:01:18
Speaker 2: We'll see what happens. But lou Urminello. Happy Thanksgiving Torminello's take,
1:01:22
Speaker 2: and we'll do this again. Thanksgiving, Alex, thank you. As
1:01:26
Speaker 2: always my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving is.
1:01:29
Speaker 1: It's my favorite holiday. I agree, God bless Alex.
1:01:33
Speaker 2: All right, have a turkey leg up for us. All right,
1:01:36
Speaker 2: I'll talk to you, Louis, all right, Thank you, Alex,
