Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar Springs, welcome into Duval, daily presented by GenJack.com and fueled by Brass Tax Coffee, just walked out of the Miller Electric Center in Jaguar's training camp practice.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: Number 10 in the books, we say 10, yes, it was a walk there, so I mean, it was 45 minutes.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: That wasn't really a practice.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: So training camp practice 10 in the books, doing this from the car today, because I got friendly stuff going on, and just didn't have time to run back home to the studio and do that.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, we're doing it from the car, it's a pretty dang warm out here, warm morning, humid morning, took quite a while for the camera to do a defog for me this morning, but got some good shots anyways and we're just going to talk about this practice.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: So it wasn't padded, offence switched to white today, so offence and white defence and
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: The entire bleachers were absolutely packed.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there's a lot of excitement kind of really building for this season as there should be.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, the bleachers were packed.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: Cole Van Lannan still off to the side.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: No Quentin Morris.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't seize actor, he need to confirm that, but I didn't see him.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: rookie he's been doing really well.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: Jalani Tavad, the lineback of the Jaguar signed a few days ago, but as a lot of experience, we haven't done a video about it.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: But a lot of experience, Anthony Campanila is excited about him being here.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: He was out there today, camp talked about him rushing and you saw that a little bit today.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: You saw more one-on-ones today.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: The defenders, offensive line, defensive line, they were
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: far away you know closer to the indoor practice facility so I was watching the widers viewers and corners will go over that stuff as far as the offensive line.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of rotation stuff going on on the right side of the offensive line.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: Antons still have left tackle, so, you know, Liam Cohen talked about if that stick.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it seems like it's sticking.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: It really does.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: Got plenty of 11 on 11 today, spirit of practice.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely a spirit of practice.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: One of the plays of the day, and who knows if it would work that in a game, because it's just hard to tell, but Amira Abdullah, the veteran running back, who was just sensational in college, and
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: He had a run that looked like a college run where, you know, he's going off to one side and then he reverses the entire field, crosses the entire defense and gets a big run out of it.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: What it have worked in a game, I don't know, would you have tried that in a game, I don't know, but it felt like one of those old school college runs which is pretty cool to see.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: Nate Borkerture, he had multiple catches during 11 on 11 today, which was good to see from him, obviously.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: The rookie tie-to-end Jaguar's first pick in the 26 NFL draft at 56 overall, Nate Borkerture.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: Austin Tramwell continues to just be a training camp star.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: He had a crazy day.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: Two or three touchdowns.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Hodges made some good plays, but Tramel just is one of those guys where he gets the job done.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: And he's been there, done that, he's veteran, he's experienced in this league, and he knows how to get open in practice, obviously probably not going to be on the active roster, but he's definitely a guy that Jaguars would probably like to keep around on the practice squad and potentially call him up if need be.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm John Jones today.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: He had a would-be sack versus Nick Mullins.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: He also tweaked something on a play where Travis Hunter actually got an interception.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about that, but he did come back into practice, which was good to see.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: So it looked like he tweaked something, walked off with a trainer, but then he was able to come back in.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: a few other notes here, Ruka Roarrow had a really nice run stuff, so to Branson Combs, Albert Regis had a would-be sack against Mullins, but it wasn't really like Regis beating his guy one-on-one.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: It was basically Mullins stepping up and Regis being in the right spot there, which is good to see, obviously.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like some super impressive rep. Jabarmo Hammett had a pass break up versus Tanner Coziel in 11 on 11, couple penalties.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: Trayvon Walker jumped early late in practice and then Jonah Monheim a couple plays later also jumped early.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: So one on offense, one on defense, there in terms of pre-snap stuff.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: The wider sewers and the cornerbacks, one on one notes, Monterey Brown could not cover to Kobe Myers.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: Monterey Brown is not a one-on-one man to man corner.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's not his forte, that's not his specialty.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe shouldn't be shocking, but one-on-one in the red zone and these one-on-one drills, he couldn't keep up with Jacobi and Jacobi's a great route around here, a very good football player.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not shocking, but it is what it is.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: You want bus to brown and zone coverage more than man to man, and obviously when you're one-on-one, it's man to man.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: BTJ had a really nice catch going up and over.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: Jarring Jones and one-on-one Parker Washington and Jordan Lewis had some really nice battles.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Parker Washington beat Jordan Lewis and then Jordan Lewis came back and locked him up.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: So they were really getting after it in the one-on-ones.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: Cory Valentine had a nice PBU and one-on-ones.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was against Boyd number 83.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter had a nice catch one-on-one.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: Tim Jones was able to beat Cory Valentine a few days later.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: Preston Hodge had a pass break up against Boyd as well.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then final one I had a note here.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams great catch back of the end zone toe tapping.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: against Devon Marshall and Devon Marshall I think had a pretty good spirit of practice the undrafted for Agent Corner out of NC State, who's another good zone player for sure.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: But talking about Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguar starting passing game, Lawrence was 10 of 16 today.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get the the updated numbers on his total practical total output here in training camp Statistically which I always say, you know, I don't think it really matters, but people like to hear it So I keep track of it.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: He was 10 of 16 today had a lot of completions to Parker Washington, shocker Brian Thomas Jr. had some nice plays down the field Trevor Lawrence had a rushing touchdown where he I think he definitely would have scored in a game in that situation
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: And Parker Washington just kind of dominating the day once again.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: We see that pretty consistently, awesome day for him.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: But Trevor did have two interceptions.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: Eric Murray got him over the middle.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: He threw it late.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes that's going to happen.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: Just it is what it is.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, when you throw it late, right?
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then during a double coverage to Parker Washington, down the field,
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter picked it off.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: That was the same play that Jarian got tweaked on and again Jarian came back after that, so it seems all good.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: But that throw wouldn't probably have even had a chance to happen because Dennis Gardeck was unabated, like he was getting to Trevor Lawrence.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: They blew the whistle already.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: So really it wasn't in there, so I'm still going to give it to Travis Hunter and Trevor Lawrence probably wouldn't have thrown that if it was a different situation, not practice, etc.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: But it is what it is.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to count
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: He had a dime down the field to Parker Washington.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: Parker Washington got tripped up and fell down at the one yard line, so it was not a touchdown, but I mean super explosive play, which was cool to see.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then you also had a beautiful layered throat just over the outstretched arm of jibbarmulhamid, outstretched hands of jibbarmulhamid, to Brian Thomas Jr. That may have been a touchdown in a game.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: It was one guy to beat and Brian Thomas Jr. probably going to beat him.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: So that was really nice to see and then nice connection overall with, um,
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: with Jacobi Myers.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, it was a very solid practice overall.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously a couple interceptions.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: One of them probably wouldn't have happened in a real game, probably wouldn't have been a sack.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: The other one, he might not have there on that in a game either.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: You throw it late, which over the middle, you probably not supposed to be doing that against Eric Murray.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: But 10 of 16, two interceptions, a rushing touchdown,
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: not the cleanest day for Trevor but overall it felt like the defense probably won the day but both sides were trading punches and Travis Hunter he got that interception he also had a catch on the offensive side so he's making plays on both sides of the ball and this one now Trevor Lawrence he is up to 82 of 135 12 touchdowns plus a rushing touchdown so we'll give him
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: and five interceptions.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: So 13 touchdowns, five interceptions, you'll take it, especially again.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these interceptions are not happening in a real game, but that is going to do it.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: It is hot.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to get the AC kicking in here and we are good to go.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be back.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: Tomorrow with more content.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, there's no practice tomorrow.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: Day off.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: Then there's a walk through Tuesday.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: There's a practice Wednesday.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: Then the Jaguar has had out to New Orleans for joint practices.
