- 0:28Hey, everybody. Good morning.
- 0:29From the very hot chicken coop. It's already hot here.
- 0:34OK, so today we are talking about confidence and how you
- 0:38decide you have confidence because this isn't something
- 0:42that someone can give to you. You have to decide that it's
- 0:47yours. You're gonna have to claim it.
- 0:49And every person has a different path to saying I have confidence
- 0:53or I don't have confidence. It's not like you can walk into
- 0:55a store and purchase it and come out and say, well, now I have
- 0:58boatloads of confidence. You know, you think about this
- 1:02with children and in sports. Most people who have kids that
- 1:06are into sports are. You know, super supportive of
- 1:11it. They want them to be successful.
- 1:12They'll buy them the right tools and they'll say, you know, I
- 1:15want to build their confidence. So I'm going to get them all the
- 1:18right things to use and then they're going to have more
- 1:21confidence. Well, maybe that's what it
- 1:24always comes down to. Maybe because you have to decide
- 1:28for yourself when you're a person that you're going to
- 1:31choose that path. And if you don't choose that
- 1:33path, it's. It's usually because you feel
- 1:37you need to know more, you need more practice, You have
- 1:41disempowering beliefs about yourself in general, But me
- 1:45either way doesn't make a difference.
- 1:46It's all an internal process, and the point of this
- 1:49conversation today is to recognize that it is personal to
- 1:54each and every individual out there.
- 1:56You can't say that your rules for confidence are someone
- 2:00else's rules for confidence, and when you do that.
- 2:03You're making large, gross exaggerations and assumptions
- 2:07about what their belief system is giving them.
- 2:10So it's disempowering in general because you're coming with your
- 2:14rules, trying to move someone else in a direction very, very,
- 2:19very tricky territory to go into.
- 2:21You don't want to play in that arena.
- 2:23It's not fruitful. What it does is it sets you up
- 2:26for failure in more ways than you could ever imagine.
- 2:29Because one, it takes the other person out.
- 2:33And again, it doesn't have to be a child.
- 2:34It could be a coworker, it could be a partner, it could whoever.
- 2:39It takes the other person out because they feel now like
- 2:41you've put your rules on the way it has to be done on them.
- 2:45And maybe you have and maybe that's OK if you're trying to
- 2:48say to them, listen, I hired you to do something, I need you to
- 2:51do it just this way. That happens.
- 2:54But that doesn't mean the perfect person is going to be
- 2:56confident, even if you show them your exact way, because their
- 2:59brain is going to have a different interpretation of it.
- 3:01So. What makes the transition easier
- 3:06is if you ask the question, do you know how you specifically
- 3:09gain confidence? And you put the person in a
- 3:14state of going internal and trying to figure out how they
- 3:18decide they have confidence in something.
- 3:20And that really is what it comes down to.
- 3:22It's like it's a decision, it's a oh wait, let me think about
- 3:25that for a second. How do I know when I have
- 3:27confidence? And let me tell you, it's not an
- 3:29easy thing to delineate. It's actually quite.
- 3:32Confusing because I myself, when I've had to do it before and
- 3:36someone says, well, how do you have such confidence when you're
- 3:39coaching anybody and anything, whatever their arena is and I
- 3:44have to really think about that, I pause and go, huh, that's
- 3:47true. And.
- 3:49Maybe it's the number of hours, maybe it's the experience, maybe
- 3:52it's the amount of things that you've learned.
- 3:55Read life experience. But each one of us has a
- 3:58different path to deciding how we did.
- 4:01We define our confidence, and how do you know when you're
- 4:04confident? So you have to ask yourself that
- 4:08question. If you're trying to better
- 4:10yourself, if you're trying to move in up in the world, if
- 4:13you're let's say you're looking for a new job, you're trying to
- 4:15decide if you want to have a new place to live.
- 4:18This calls on asking questions. This is a place where you go and
- 4:23you get curious and you stop and you pause and you ask really
- 4:28good questions of yourself. And that is one of the first
- 4:32ones. Well, you know, besides knowing
- 4:34what it is that you're looking for, you have to say, where does
- 4:37my confidence lie in this? Is it in the doing?
- 4:41Is it in the knowing? Is it in?
- 4:44Other people helping me where does my confidence come in?
- 4:47And then have to define how do I build my confidence?
- 4:50What do I do to essentially build my confidence.
- 4:54And you won't know unless you ask the questions.
- 4:57You won't know unless you're able to define that piece of it.
- 5:00So you know, being curious, as I've said before many times here
- 5:04on this podcast is all about being you know in your
- 5:08superpower using your superpowers for your greater
- 5:10good and. Building your own confidence in
- 5:14whatever you're going to do. There are many times where I
- 5:17don't have confidence in what I'm doing, but I have confidence
- 5:21in the fact that I know I will stick to it until it's done.
- 5:25And that's what gets me through it.
- 5:27It's the grit. It's that, it's that piece of
- 5:29the confidence in it. You know, when I started the
- 5:32Gardens and Canning and all of that, I didn't know Jack about
- 5:36it. I was just, you know, I had done
- 5:38it with my aunt years ago and. She was always in charge and I
- 5:42was just like, you know, the first mate.
- 5:44She would tell me what to do, but quite honestly, I was not
- 5:47paying attention at the level of someone who was going to
- 5:50replicate on my own. I always thought I would have
- 5:53her to do this with and when I moved, I don't.
- 5:57So you know, it's one of those things where I had to gain that
- 6:01confidence again and. Even still, even still, when I'm
- 6:05doing it, I will always call her in the morning and be like, OK,
- 6:08I'm, I'm, I'm canning today. Oh, and she talks me through
- 6:11some of the stuff and I've done it for years now.
- 6:15But the reality is I still have her as a safety net.
- 6:19That's one of my little rules. And I have to learn to take
- 6:22better notes as she tells me all the time, take better notes on
- 6:25it. And because I won't remember and
- 6:27I think I'll remember and I don't, and that's the crazy
- 6:29part. But in any event.
- 6:32How do you define confidence? And how do you know when you
- 6:34have it? So get curious and figure it
- 6:36out. All right, my friends, have a
- 6:38blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 6:39Bye.
