- 1:11SPEAKER_09: Your lights just flickered.
- 1:12SPEAKER_09: I know, I saw that.
- 1:13SPEAKER_09: I'm not sure what that was all about.
- 1:14SPEAKER_10: Somebody rev up the uh rev something up.
- 1:17SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 1:18SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's doing it again.
- 1:22SPEAKER_09: Interesting.
- 1:23SPEAKER_09: Very interesting.
- 1:25SPEAKER_09: You watch, we're gonna lose power or something.
- 1:27SPEAKER_09: I don't know why.
- 1:28SPEAKER_09: That'll be fun.
- 1:28SPEAKER_09: It's not doing anything.
- 1:29SPEAKER_09: No, it's beautiful.
- 1:30SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:30SPEAKER_09: Well, not beautiful, but I mean the temperatures.
- 1:33SPEAKER_09: I wonder if it's just that light.
- 1:34SPEAKER_09: Oh, it could be, yeah.
- 1:35SPEAKER_09: Hold on a second.
- 1:35SPEAKER_09: Let me fix it.
- 1:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah, the light's just freaking out.
- 1:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:38SPEAKER_10: Like, pay attention to me.
- 1:41SPEAKER_10: There, look at that.
- 1:43SPEAKER_10: There.
- 1:43SPEAKER_10: Now we're in the dark.
- 1:45SPEAKER_10: Now you're in the dark.
- 1:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, that's fine.
- 1:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:47SPEAKER_09: We like to keep Doug in the dark.
- 1:48SPEAKER_10: That's that's par for the course.
- 1:51SPEAKER_09: Um so what?
- 1:54SPEAKER_10: Uh-huh.
- 1:57SPEAKER_09: It's like yeah.
- 1:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 2:01SPEAKER_09: Uh-huh.
- 2:03SPEAKER_09: We had a busy tire of your crap, Doug.
- 2:05SPEAKER_09: Busy weekend.
- 2:07SPEAKER_10: Holy crap.
- 2:08SPEAKER_10: That was a busy weekend.
- 2:09SPEAKER_10: That was friggin' jam-packed.
- 2:12SPEAKER_09: It was jam-packed.
- 2:12SPEAKER_09: Friday, the syndicate did two school shows.
- 2:16SPEAKER_09: Uh, and you know, we only played an hour, maybe a little over an hour for each one, but it was a lot of work.
- 2:22SPEAKER_09: Well, I mean, you're setting up, sound checking, playing, tear down, pack it back up.
- 2:29SPEAKER_09: Drive for 20 minutes.
- 2:31SPEAKER_10: Drive 20 minutes, have lunch, yeah, go to the school, load in, set up, sound check, play, tear down, load out, go home.
- 2:43SPEAKER_09: Doesn't sound like a lot, but it's it's a it takes a lot of action.
- 2:46SPEAKER_09: And you're and you're moving at a at quite a clip because you know you're on a on a timeline there because the kids.
- 2:51SPEAKER_10: Well, especially between the first and second shows.
- 2:53SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 2:54SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 2:54SPEAKER_10: Because you you know, you got you're you're on a kind of kind of a time crunch.
- 2:57SPEAKER_10: Not really, but yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_10: You still want to, you know, have time to get something in your body to eat.
- 3:03SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 3:03SPEAKER_09: And then still get plenty of time to get set up and you saw Morton's uh message about uh the music teacher in Madawaska.
- 3:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that was a real that was really nice.
- 3:12SPEAKER_10: That made it worth it.
- 3:13SPEAKER_10: It did.
- 3:13SPEAKER_10: It really did.
- 3:14SPEAKER_09: So uh we played in in Madawaska, and uh their music teacher, both music teachers that we played for, they actually played with us.
- 3:21SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 3:21SPEAKER_09: Um and so the one in Madawaska had sent us a nice um email saying that uh uh was it one or a couple?
- 3:30SPEAKER_10: I I think it I think he said two.
- 3:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 3:32SPEAKER_09: Uh students had had been contemplating joining band and they came up after our performance and signed up.
- 3:38SPEAKER_09: So it's that's that's pretty.
- 3:41SPEAKER_09: That's a win.
- 3:41SPEAKER_09: That's that's what we do it for.
- 3:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 3:44SPEAKER_10: Um But it was fun.
- 3:45SPEAKER_10: I th I thought we played pretty well.
- 3:47SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_10: Kids seem to have a good time.
- 3:49SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 3:49SPEAKER_10: Um you know, the entire front row in Madawaska fell asleep.
- 3:52SPEAKER_10: That's just true.
- 3:53SPEAKER_10: Well, they were kindergarteners.
- 3:55SPEAKER_10: They were kindergartners and it was their nap time, so I get it.
- 3:58SPEAKER_10: I don't know how they slept through that, but that's pretty impressive.
- 4:02SPEAKER_09: It is pretty impressive.
- 4:03SPEAKER_09: Um and then uh Saturday we um I don't know.
- 4:09SPEAKER_09: I I it's outside of my comfort zone, really.
- 4:12SPEAKER_09: And I know it was outside of your comfort zone.
- 4:14SPEAKER_10: Oh, way outside of your comments.
- 4:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:15SPEAKER_09: It was like we went we attended the main musicians uh uh meet main music educators association's uh modern band uh day, uh which was in Holton, and Skinny Elvis opened the show because most of the members of well, all of the members except for Joel of Skinny Elvis were um w running workshops.
- 4:38SPEAKER_10: Well, he had to go do principal stuff.
- 4:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's true.
- 4:41SPEAKER_09: Um so you know, I had a guitar clinic basically, you know, I had all the guitar players in one room, you had all the front people, yeah, singers in one room.
- 4:50SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 4:51SPEAKER_09: And uh Chris Morton had all the drummers, John Simonov had all the bass players, and Sarah Diette had all the keyboard players.
- 4:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:59SPEAKER_09: And for me, those sessions, while they weren't terrible, it was it was you know, I'm usually at a loss when it comes to that because I'm such a n nuts and bolts guitar player and self-taught, and you know, I don't know what I I asked them several times, is there anything you want to ask?
- 5:19SPEAKER_09: Like what have you always wanted to know how to do this?
- 5:23SPEAKER_09: Or you know, what and these are high school kids and and of course there are high school kids from all over the state.
- 5:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah, honestly.
- 5:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 5:30SPEAKER_09: And uh they didn't know anybody, and so they just no, no, I don't have to be a little bit.
- 5:34SPEAKER_10: Well, I think that's what made it a little awkward.
- 5:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 5:37SPEAKER_10: I think the I think from what I'm understanding, I think the vocalists got along best just because it was all girls.
- 5:44SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 5:44SPEAKER_10: I didn't have a single guy the entire both sessions.
- 5:47SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 5:48SPEAKER_10: But they seemed to get they all seemed to get along pretty well, and they they kind of like, you know, oh, this is what we do.
- 5:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 5:53SPEAKER_10: And this is what we do, you know.
- 5:54SPEAKER_10: Oh, this is what we do.
- 5:55SPEAKER_10: So it was it was kind of nice, but as far as me teaching them anything.
- 6:02SPEAKER_10: Nah.
- 6:03SPEAKER_09: Nah, bruh.
- 6:04SPEAKER_09: Because you you you know, you just get up there and you're dug.
- 6:07SPEAKER_10: I just go and do I just I can't teach what I do.
- 6:10SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 6:11SPEAKER_10: Because it's you.
- 6:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I mean, I I mean they you gotta be you.
- 6:15SPEAKER_10: Exactly.
- 6:16SPEAKER_10: So I was I was kinda I mean, so I just like talk to them.
- 6:19SPEAKER_10: I I I had a great time getting to know them.
- 6:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 6:21SPEAKER_10: You know, their influences and you know how they how they get along with their bandmates and any things that they think that they could do better, and what they think they do well.
- 6:31SPEAKER_10: So that I mean that part was fun.
- 6:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 6:34SPEAKER_09: But then you get you get like half an hour left in the session.
- 6:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's that's the problem.
- 6:38SPEAKER_10: I was like, I was sitting there and I was like, what are we gonna do now?
- 6:40SPEAKER_10: Um you guys want to hear about the time uh my friend Theo got his nose broke and raging as a machine concert.
- 6:49SPEAKER_10: It's fun.
- 6:50SPEAKER_10: So so Yeah.
- 6:54SPEAKER_09: So we had a couple of sessions where we were it was kind of like pulling teeth from some of these.
- 6:59SPEAKER_10: Well, I like the one that you and I did together with the guitar players in the song.
- 7:02SPEAKER_09: The last session, so we had we had the singers come together with the guitar players, and uh we did a you know a little bit of a kind of an educational thing at the beginning, but then we said, well, let's jam.
- 7:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 7:15SPEAKER_09: And so we we uh everybody got together, got their guitars and and and uh we did a couple we did a nirvana song, and we did uh Radio Head, and we did what was the other one we did?
- 7:26SPEAKER_10: Well, they all did it at the end of each part of the side.
- 7:27SPEAKER_10: Oh, we did two Nirvana songs.
- 7:29SPEAKER_10: Well, well, one band did a Nirvana song.
- 7:32SPEAKER_09: Oh no, no, I know I know what you're saying.
- 7:33SPEAKER_09: So so each band did uh one of their songs.
- 7:36SPEAKER_09: One of their songs.
- 7:37SPEAKER_09: And we and we did uh uh constructive criticism, you know, what they could do better, which was great.
- 7:42SPEAKER_09: And the kid the kids were great about it.
- 7:44SPEAKER_09: But at the end, we all jammed Smells Like Teen Spirit, yeah, yeah.
- 7:48SPEAKER_09: Come as you are.
- 7:49SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, I forgot we did come as you are and then uh creep creep, yeah, from Radiohead.
- 7:53SPEAKER_09: So but and and I think that was probably their favorite part of the morning session.
- 7:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you know, was I think so was jamming out like that.
- 7:59SPEAKER_09: So that was pretty cool.
- 8:00SPEAKER_10: I think I think I think all the sessions should be like that.
- 8:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah, right.
- 8:04SPEAKER_09: Well, I think in the uh actual modern band, like music will modern band, I think there is a lot of jamming.
- 8:10SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 8:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:11SPEAKER_09: I'm pretty sure that's the way it goes.
- 8:13SPEAKER_10: But I mean you get all I mean, like get all the bass players and drummers together.
- 8:17SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 8:17SPEAKER_09: And then do like a rhythm section.
- 8:19SPEAKER_10: Yeah, get the vo get the vocalists and the guitar players together.
- 8:22SPEAKER_09: Where do you put the keyboards?
- 8:24SPEAKER_10: I don't know, split them up.
- 8:26SPEAKER_09: There you go.
- 8:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 8:27SPEAKER_10: Half goes here, half goes here.
- 8:28SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 8:29SPEAKER_10: And then we sp and then we mix them.
- 8:30SPEAKER_09: Right?
- 8:31SPEAKER_09: I wish we could have stayed for the uh Yeah, I would like to have seen the concert performances, yeah.
- 8:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but we we had we had things to do.
- 8:38SPEAKER_09: We did.
- 8:38SPEAKER_09: We uh we had our first gig at Sizzle and Slice.
- 8:40SPEAKER_09: Sizzle and Slice.
- 8:42SPEAKER_09: Which was an interesting gig.
- 8:43SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 8:44SPEAKER_09: I'm not gonna say it was bad, I'm not gonna say it was good.
- 8:46SPEAKER_09: There were no demons there.
- 8:48SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 8:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it was uh Well, I I have to tell you this because well to tell you the story, there was a older couple sitting like to our left, and they kept getting up and going outside quite frequently during the free.
- 9:04SPEAKER_09: I think it's probably a smoke break.
- 9:05SPEAKER_10: Probably, yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_10: I assume so.
- 9:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:07SPEAKER_10: But at one point they came back in with a big box.
- 9:10SPEAKER_10: And I was like, oh, that's interesting.
- 9:13SPEAKER_09: Wasn't that his boots?
- 9:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:15SPEAKER_10: So he opens the box, he's got a pair of cowboy boots in it.
- 9:18SPEAKER_10: They look brand new, right?
- 9:20SPEAKER_10: Basically.
- 9:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 9:21SPEAKER_10: So he changes out of his shoes and he puts these cowboy boots on.
- 9:25SPEAKER_10: Well, next thing I know, they're grabbing the salt shaker from their table, going out to the dance floor and spreading salt all over the dance floor.
- 9:36SPEAKER_10: Traction, maybe?
- 9:37SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 9:38SPEAKER_10: Wow, that's what I thought.
- 9:39SPEAKER_10: And then they go back to the table and they put like a huge pile under their table.
- 9:44SPEAKER_10: Under the table.
- 9:44SPEAKER_10: And I'm like, what are you people doing?
- 9:46SPEAKER_10: Are we in supernatural keeping away demons?
- 9:48SPEAKER_10: What's happening?
- 9:49SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 9:50SPEAKER_10: So, you know, you and I both thought that was pretty weird.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:53SPEAKER_10: Because he would like, the guy would like you know, rub the soles of his boots in the assault and then go out and dance.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:59SPEAKER_10: So I told mom and dad about it.
- 10:02SPEAKER_10: And they were both like, oh yeah, they used to do that all the time.
- 10:05SPEAKER_10: I'm like, oh, so this is a normal thing for your generation.
- 10:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 10:09SPEAKER_10: So apparently that was a thing.
- 10:11SPEAKER_09: Is it traction?
- 10:11SPEAKER_09: Is that is that why?
- 10:12SPEAKER_10: No, it's so you could m uh glide easier.
- 10:15SPEAKER_10: It's like putting uh really like putting, you know, like grease on skis, you know, greasing up your skis or something.
- 10:23SPEAKER_09: I had to laugh because when we uh we really kind of first started, we were two or three songs in, and one of those ladies came up and and said, It's uh it's it's too loud back there.
- 10:34SPEAKER_09: You need to turn it down.
- 10:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_09: And and like back there, meaning I don't know how how far was it to the window?
- 10:41SPEAKER_10: The uh I was probably I don't know, fifty feet.
- 10:44SPEAKER_09: Nah, I wouldn't probably twenty-five, thirty feet.
- 10:46SPEAKER_09: Twenty five, thirty feet.
- 10:47SPEAKER_09: Okay, so it's really loud back there.
- 10:49SPEAKER_09: Uh you probably should turn it down.
- 10:50SPEAKER_09: And then I asked her, I said, How is it up here?
- 10:53SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's fine.
- 10:57SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 10:57SPEAKER_09: So she And then so she stayed up here.
- 11:00SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 11:00SPEAKER_09: But it was really loud back there.
- 11:02SPEAKER_09: So I just kind of put my hand on the volume and just pretended I turned it down.
- 11:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's what I thought you did.
- 11:07SPEAKER_10: I was like, Yeah, okay.
- 11:09SPEAKER_10: We're gonna make this look good.
- 11:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 11:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah, but then and then she tried to talk to me while we're performing.
- 11:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and they it's like this there's no etiquette there.
- 11:16SPEAKER_09: Like, hello.
- 11:17SPEAKER_09: They and and and there was another lady, one of the other ladies that you know, she recently lost a friend of hers, and she kept coming up to me after every song and saying, you know, I really miss him.
- 11:28SPEAKER_09: Yes, I know.
- 11:29SPEAKER_09: But she talked to me for like a minute.
- 11:31SPEAKER_10: Oh, she she would I mean like in between every song, it was like a minute or two she was talking.
- 11:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 11:37SPEAKER_10: And I'm like, Mm-hmm, okay, so this is this is our break time.
- 11:40SPEAKER_10: Apparently.
- 11:41SPEAKER_10: So yeah.
- 11:41SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 11:42SPEAKER_09: So whatever.
- 11:43SPEAKER_09: But you know, other than that, uh, we got virtually no reaction from from the people there.
- 11:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was pretty and we're relatively used to that.
- 11:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 11:54SPEAKER_09: Uh, but it doesn't make it any fun.
- 11:56SPEAKER_10: Well, that's that's the thing.
- 11:57SPEAKER_10: It makes it harder to play if n if you don't think anybody's really paying attention, then it's just like, well, you well, we might as well playing in a vacuum.
- 12:05SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 12:05SPEAKER_10: You know?
- 12:06SPEAKER_09: But and we were like, we left there and we're like, do we even we even want to play here again?
- 12:10SPEAKER_09: I mean, because this was it was a this was hard work.
- 12:12SPEAKER_10: It was.
- 12:13SPEAKER_10: It was a long three hour show.
- 12:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and then we got uh uh an email uh I think it was yesterday from the owner and said, sorry, sorry I missed you, but I heard you guys were really good.
- 12:23SPEAKER_09: From who?
- 12:24SPEAKER_09: Probably the waitresses.
- 12:25SPEAKER_09: That'd be the only ones that were really there.
- 12:27SPEAKER_09: I'm assuming any attention to us.
- 12:29SPEAKER_09: But uh he's like, you know, um I'd love to have you again.
- 12:33SPEAKER_09: Can can you do one of these dates?
- 12:36SPEAKER_09: That's why I sent you an email.
- 12:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah, do we even want to do this?
- 12:40SPEAKER_10: Well, I mean, you brought up a good point.
- 12:41SPEAKER_10: It's like, well, maybe it was like an office.
- 12:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah, because uh they they've never seen us before.
- 12:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was the first time.
- 12:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so so maybe it would be a little bit different.
- 12:49SPEAKER_09: We'll give it another chance.
- 12:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and if we get the same reaction, then we're not playing there.
- 12:53SPEAKER_10: Exactly.
- 12:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so I think Well, I mean, we can always be like, well, we're gonna get busy here because it's you know, it's in June and we are the syndicate's gonna be.
- 13:00SPEAKER_10: Yeah, Cindy's gonna be busy.
- 13:02SPEAKER_10: We're gonna be, you know, skinny elves gonna be doing some stuff.
- 13:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 13:05SPEAKER_10: So we're gonna be.
- 13:07SPEAKER_09: But yeah, I think we give it another shot and then sure, why not?
- 13:10SPEAKER_09: And we'll see what happens.
- 13:11SPEAKER_09: If it's any different, then okay.
- 13:12SPEAKER_10: It's it's easy money.
- 13:14SPEAKER_09: It is, you know, so um okay, so that was our weekend.
- 13:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 13:18SPEAKER_09: And also over the weekend they announced the inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- 13:23SPEAKER_09: Yay! Yay, I'm so underwhelmed.
- 13:27SPEAKER_09: Um now I am glad that a couple of them got in.
- 13:32SPEAKER_09: There is a little bit of uh rock and roll in this.
- 13:36SPEAKER_09: Oh, well, that's that's convenient.
- 13:38SPEAKER_09: Uh Phil Collins Hall of Fame.
- 13:41SPEAKER_09: Uh Phil Collins for his solo work.
- 13:44SPEAKER_09: Okay, good.
- 13:45SPEAKER_09: That's deserved.
- 13:46SPEAKER_09: Yep, absolutely.
- 13:46SPEAKER_09: Billy Idol.
- 13:48SPEAKER_09: Good.
- 13:48SPEAKER_09: Mm-hmm.
- 13:48SPEAKER_10: I'm happy about that.
- 13:49SPEAKER_09: And finally, Iron Maiden.
- 13:51SPEAKER_09: Ah, finally.
- 13:53SPEAKER_09: Is going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- 13:55SPEAKER_09: Now, um pr in previous uh to their induction, uh Iron Maiden had basically told the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to F off.
- 14:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 14:04SPEAKER_09: Um and now they sent out the manager sent out an email saying we're we're very um humbled, you know, and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 14:11SPEAKER_09: It's a nice, it's nice to be included, and you know, so it's very, very different.
- 14:16SPEAKER_10: I noticed it's from the manager.
- 14:17SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's from the manager, not the band.
- 14:18SPEAKER_09: Not the band.
- 14:19SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 14:20SPEAKER_10: That's that's some damage control.
- 14:22SPEAKER_09: Okay, so the other one's going in.
- 14:23SPEAKER_09: Have you heard this yet?
- 14:24SPEAKER_09: No.
- 14:25SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 14:25SPEAKER_09: The other one's going in.
- 14:27SPEAKER_09: Um, I don't one of them, well, let me just tell you who they are, and we could talk about it.
- 14:33SPEAKER_09: Uh Oasis.
- 14:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 14:35SPEAKER_09: I don't think I Oasis should go in.
- 14:38SPEAKER_09: Do you disagree?
- 14:40SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 14:40SPEAKER_10: I because I really nothing Oasis.
- 14:43SPEAKER_10: I know.
- 14:44SPEAKER_09: I i you know, they had I think I think Oasis.
- 14:47SPEAKER_10: How many albums did they have?
- 14:48SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 14:49SPEAKER_10: I really don't.
- 14:49SPEAKER_10: Two?
- 14:50SPEAKER_10: Let me check.
- 14:51SPEAKER_09: Because what's the story Morning Glory is the is the Well, that's the big one.
- 14:55SPEAKER_09: The big one, right?
- 14:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 14:56SPEAKER_09: Um maybe they had like five and I didn't even know about it because I wasn't paying attention.
- 15:02SPEAKER_09: But you're right, what's the story of Morning Glory was the was the big Oasis Rock Band.
- 15:06SPEAKER_10: Let's see what they say.
- 15:08SPEAKER_09: That had Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall, and there was another hit, I think, off that off that album.
- 15:16SPEAKER_10: But you know, they all sounded the same to me and and uh let's see, uh disography, okay.
- 15:25SPEAKER_10: Studio albums.
- 15:26SPEAKER_10: Definitely maybe, 1994.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:29SPEAKER_10: What's the story, Morning Glory, 1995.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:33SPEAKER_10: Be Here Now, 1997.
- 15:35SPEAKER_10: Oh, I suppose that was a big one too.
- 15:37SPEAKER_10: Uh Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, 2000, Heathen Chemistry, 2002, Don't Believe the Truth, 2005, and Dig Out Your Soul, 2008.
- 15:46SPEAKER_10: So they had more than I thought they had.
- 15:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 15:48SPEAKER_10: So they what's seven?
- 15:49SPEAKER_10: Seven?
- 15:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 15:50SPEAKER_09: I lost track of them after What's a Story Morning.
- 15:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah, me too.
- 15:53SPEAKER_09: I just, you know, I didn't uh didn't really care.
- 15:57SPEAKER_09: So I don't you know, I don't know where I stand.
- 15:59SPEAKER_09: I like you said, I think you put it very well.
- 16:01SPEAKER_09: I I nothing Oasis.
- 16:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I I can't I mean they had one they did Wonder Wall, right?
- 16:06SPEAKER_09: And just like that kill that got killed.
- 16:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah, well, I mean it got overplayed.
- 16:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:11SPEAKER_09: Because everybody, everybody Champagne Supernova is the same way.
- 16:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:14SPEAKER_09: You know, it's the same.
- 16:15SPEAKER_10: But I mean, I think Oasis is a band that you either really like or you really hate.
- 16:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_10: I don't think there's any middle ground.
- 16:23SPEAKER_09: Well, it was like, you know how um what was the band that was out just not too long ago that was very Led Zeppelin?
- 16:29SPEAKER_09: Uh Greta Van Fleet.
- 16:30SPEAKER_09: Greta Van Fleet, yeah.
- 16:31SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 16:32SPEAKER_09: Uh and and people either they loved them or they were like, this is a Led Zeppelin ripoff.
- 16:37SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 16:37SPEAKER_09: Same thing with Oasis.
- 16:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:39SPEAKER_09: Either they loved Oasis or was like, this is they're ripping off the Beatles.
- 16:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_09: You know, and I I heard that a lot back in the 90s.
- 16:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 16:45SPEAKER_09: That they were ripping off the Beatles.
- 16:46SPEAKER_09: Um and then, you know, the of course the the drama that goes with Oasis, the brothers, the brothers and everything.
- 16:52SPEAKER_09: So yeah, you know, I nothing Oasis, just like you.
- 16:55SPEAKER_09: So I I I don't know where how I feel.
- 16:57SPEAKER_09: I I my my gut tells me they shouldn't go in, but I don't know anything.
- 17:02SPEAKER_09: You know, I don't know anything about anything.
- 17:04SPEAKER_09: So uh next one, Sha Day.
- 17:07SPEAKER_09: Well, I mean, we love Sade.
- 17:09SPEAKER_09: I love Sade.
- 17:10SPEAKER_09: So I really I would put Sade in the R B Hall of Fame.
- 17:15SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 17:16SPEAKER_10: Uh well whether or not she blows in rock and roll.
- 17:18SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 17:19SPEAKER_10: I'm not sure.
- 17:20SPEAKER_09: But you know, the that's the thing.
- 17:21SPEAKER_09: It's such a loose definition.
- 17:23SPEAKER_10: Uh yeah, they they they're very loo play literally loose and fast with the definition of rock and roll now.
- 17:29SPEAKER_09: So well, along those same lines as Sade, I also love this artist, Luther Vandros.
- 17:35SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 17:35SPEAKER_09: Love Luther Vandros.
- 17:37SPEAKER_09: Yep, absolutely.
- 17:37SPEAKER_09: Would put him in the RB Holland Fight.
- 17:39SPEAKER_10: Oh, hey guys, he should have been in there a long time ago.
- 17:40SPEAKER_09: A long time ago.
- 17:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 17:42SPEAKER_09: You know?
- 17:42SPEAKER_09: Uh wouldn't necessarily put him in the rock and roll hall of fame.
- 17:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 17:46SPEAKER_09: See, I just like I wouldn't put Dolly Parton in the rock and roll.
- 17:49SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 17:49SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 17:51SPEAKER_09: Again, we say this every single time.
- 17:53SPEAKER_09: Change the name.
- 17:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 17:54SPEAKER_10: Change if they changed the name, I would have no problem.
- 17:56SPEAKER_10: No.
- 17:58SPEAKER_09: Because all of these artists should be recognized.
- 17:59SPEAKER_10: Sure, absolutely.
- 18:00SPEAKER_09: You know?
- 18:00SPEAKER_10: I I have no problem with that.
- 18:01SPEAKER_10: It's just stop calling it rock and roll hall of fame.
- 18:04SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 18:04SPEAKER_09: Uh Joy Division slash New Order.
- 18:07SPEAKER_09: New Order.
- 18:08SPEAKER_10: Oh, they did get in.
- 18:09SPEAKER_09: They did get in.
- 18:09SPEAKER_10: I'm surprised.
- 18:10SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 18:10SPEAKER_10: I'm actually surprised.
- 18:11SPEAKER_09: That's like New Wave, right?
- 18:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that was a yeah, that was New Wave-ish.
- 18:16SPEAKER_10: You know, it would be considered emo now.
- 18:18SPEAKER_09: So when you know So I guess because I'm not in that, you know, wheelhouse.
- 18:23SPEAKER_09: Uh I you know, I don't listen to that.
- 18:26SPEAKER_09: I mean th some New Wave I did, but and I and I had heard of New Order.
- 18:30SPEAKER_09: But was was it Joy Division first and then they turned into New Order?
- 18:35SPEAKER_10: I don't know how that works, because I only know Joy Division.
- 18:38SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 18:40SPEAKER_10: I don't know if that was like that may be the full name.
- 18:43SPEAKER_09: Joy Division New Order?
- 18:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it may be the full name.
- 18:46SPEAKER_10: I'm not a hundred percent sure.
- 18:48SPEAKER_10: Um because like Beastie Boys, Beastie is actually an acronym.
- 18:53SPEAKER_10: So maybe it's something like that.
- 18:56SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 18:57SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 18:58SPEAKER_10: Well, we're gonna find out.
- 18:59SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 19:00SPEAKER_09: So this band is listed as New Order.
- 19:03SPEAKER_09: Um, so let me go to the actual wiki.
- 19:07SPEAKER_09: And New Order are an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1980 by vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris.
- 19:16SPEAKER_09: I wonder if there's any relation to Gordon.
- 19:17SPEAKER_09: Gordy.
- 19:18SPEAKER_09: Uh, with keyboardist uh Gillian Gilbert joining the band shortly after.
- 19:23SPEAKER_09: Uh Sumner, Hook, and Morris were previously members of Joy Division, which had disbanded earlier in 1980 after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis.
- 19:32SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 19:33SPEAKER_09: So they were a band called Joy Division, and then the remaining members after the death of their singer renamed themselves.
- 19:42SPEAKER_09: Right, added a member or two and renamed themselves New Order.
- 19:45SPEAKER_10: That makes more sense.
- 19:46SPEAKER_09: Um okay, so so it's virtually the same band.
- 19:49SPEAKER_10: So it's the same band, yes.
- 19:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah, virtually the same band.
- 19:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 19:51SPEAKER_09: Um, so yeah, I I I and again, I don't know how I feel about them going in.
- 19:56SPEAKER_10: Well, I I think I I I like some of their stuff, and I I don't yes, I don't have any problem with them.
- 20:02SPEAKER_09: New wave is considered rock and roll, right?
- 20:06SPEAKER_10: I mean, yeah, I mean it was it was it was essentially rock and roll.
- 20:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was just the the the instrumentation is it was just more it was synth heavy.
- 20:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's just the instrumentation that was different.
- 20:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:17SPEAKER_09: Um Wu Tang clan.
- 20:20SPEAKER_10: See Wu Tang! Um I mean Wu Tang's great at what they do, right?
- 20:27SPEAKER_10: Absolutely, yeah.
- 20:28SPEAKER_10: But do they I can't, do they belong in rock and roll?
- 20:31SPEAKER_09: I don't think they do.
- 20:32SPEAKER_10: I don't know, man.
- 20:33SPEAKER_09: I would put them in hip hop, I may even put them in RB.
- 20:36SPEAKER_10: More hip hop, but yeah, yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_10: But I mean, you know, it's but they're but they're definitely iconic in the hip-hop world.
- 20:44SPEAKER_10: No question.
- 20:45SPEAKER_09: So, I mean, that's I mean it's like uh they definitely deserve to be recognized.
- 20:50SPEAKER_09: Didn't uh Lil Cool J go in the rock and roll Hall of Fame?
- 20:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 20:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah a year or two ago?
- 20:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so that's but that's hip hop, that's rap.
- 20:59SPEAKER_09: That's that's not rock and roll.
- 21:01SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:01SPEAKER_09: And we we've had this discussion.
- 21:02SPEAKER_09: Well, yeah, we've discussed it.
- 21:04SPEAKER_09: It's rebellion.
- 21:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's the new hip hop is the new rock and roll.
- 21:08SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:08SPEAKER_09: So and hip hop I I I contend to this day is folk music.
- 21:13SPEAKER_09: Because it's of the people.
- 21:15SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:16SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 21:17SPEAKER_10: It's it's really I mean you could you could see it.
- 21:19SPEAKER_10: You could you could plug it, you can plug it in here and say, oh, it's this, and you can plug it in here and say it's this.
- 21:24SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:25SPEAKER_10: So I mean it I mean, I understand.
- 21:28SPEAKER_10: I just again I don't like the name of the organization.
- 21:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I agree.
- 21:33SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 21:34SPEAKER_09: Nope, I'm the same.
- 21:35SPEAKER_09: So that's everybody?
- 21:36SPEAKER_09: That's everybody.
- 21:37SPEAKER_09: That's going well uh they had uh um oh now I've got rid of it.
- 21:42SPEAKER_09: Um let me see if I can do this.
- 21:44SPEAKER_09: Hold on.
- 21:44SPEAKER_09: They did have I should probably mention because they have you know the other the other non-performer awards.
- 21:52SPEAKER_09: I probably should mention that.
- 21:54SPEAKER_09: So um Let's see.
- 22:02SPEAKER_09: For the sa oh this is interesting.
- 22:04SPEAKER_09: For the second time in a row, the winner of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fan vote was not inducted.
- 22:12SPEAKER_10: Who was who was the one who won the fan vote?
- 22:14SPEAKER_09: RB Superstars New Edition.
- 22:17SPEAKER_09: Earned over a million votes this year but were passed over.
- 22:21SPEAKER_09: Hopefully next year they'll have more luck than Fish because Fish won the fan vote last time and they weren't inducted.
- 22:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 22:28SPEAKER_10: Um I think I I'd put Fish in before I'd put new edition.
- 22:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah, me too.
- 22:34SPEAKER_09: Five artists will be inducted in the early influence category.
- 22:38SPEAKER_09: Country rock innovator Graham Parsons.
- 22:40SPEAKER_09: I think that's well deserved.
- 22:41SPEAKER_09: Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.
- 22:45SPEAKER_09: Cuban singer Celia Cruz.
- 22:47SPEAKER_09: And hip hop pioneers Queen Latifah and MC Light.
- 22:51SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 22:53SPEAKER_09: Uh Early Influence.
- 22:54SPEAKER_09: Queen Latifa and MC Light.
- 22:56SPEAKER_09: MC Light?
- 22:57SPEAKER_09: Early influence?
- 22:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 22:58SPEAKER_09: I thought MC Light was a very popular one.
- 23:00SPEAKER_09: Well, for women rappers.
- 23:02SPEAKER_09: Women.
- 23:03SPEAKER_09: I suppose that's true.
- 23:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 23:05SPEAKER_10: You didn't have many women rappers in the eight.
- 23:06SPEAKER_10: Well, I mean, hip hop became popular late 70s, early eight, you know, the eighties.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 23:11SPEAKER_10: But there weren't many women rappers.
- 23:13SPEAKER_10: I mean, so I think MC Light and Queen Lative would be your two like pioneers.
- 23:18SPEAKER_10: Gotcha.
- 23:19SPEAKER_10: Quote unquote.
- 23:20SPEAKER_09: So Um Four Moore will be acknowledged for musical excellence.
- 23:25SPEAKER_09: Um producers Jimmy Miller, Rick Rubin.
- 23:30SPEAKER_09: Oh, good.
- 23:30SPEAKER_09: And Arif Martin.
- 23:32SPEAKER_09: And soul songwriter Linda Creed.
- 23:36SPEAKER_09: Uh legendary television host Ed Sullivan, who introduced American audiences to artists such as the Beatles, the Stones, and the Doors, will be posthumously given the Ahmed Erdogan Award, which honors non-performers who helped shape the industry.
- 23:52SPEAKER_09: Now, wouldn't you have given Ed Sullivan that a long time ago?
- 23:56SPEAKER_10: I was supposed to say that should have been done a long time.
- 23:59SPEAKER_10: Forever ago.
- 23:59SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 24:00SPEAKER_10: But what do I know?
- 24:01SPEAKER_09: Ceremony takes place on November 14th.
- 24:04SPEAKER_09: Uh the show will not be broadcast live, but will instead debut on an unspecified date in December on ABC and Disney Plus.
- 24:12SPEAKER_10: Of course.
- 24:13SPEAKER_09: Of course.
- 24:15SPEAKER_09: So, yeah.
- 24:17SPEAKER_10: So basically you have to pay to watch it.
- 24:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 24:19SPEAKER_10: Otherwise, nobody's gonna watch it.
- 24:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 24:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 24:24SPEAKER_09: Um, so we have a list of upcoming rock releases in the month of May.
- 24:32SPEAKER_10: Not a daddy.
- 24:33SPEAKER_09: Uh the first one uh is an interesting one.
- 24:37SPEAKER_09: It's Paul McCartney's 27th studio album.
- 24:41SPEAKER_09: Uh it's called The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which references a winding road near his childhood home that delivered the youngster to the banks of the Mersey River.
- 24:49SPEAKER_09: Uh it was produced by Andrew Watts, and it's the first since McCartney III.
- 24:55SPEAKER_09: Um there's another one coming from uh Peter Frampton, too, so we'll talk about that here in a second.
- 25:01SPEAKER_09: Uh we're again, we're we're trying to avoid uh reissues live or in live.
- 25:08SPEAKER_09: So we're looking for only new releases.
- 25:12SPEAKER_09: Um May 1st, Black Ease, an album called Peaches.
- 25:17SPEAKER_09: Um recordings, Virginie's.
- 25:23SPEAKER_09: Uh I don't know if this is uh this must be new.
- 25:29SPEAKER_09: Claypool Lennon Delirium.
- 25:32SPEAKER_09: So that's Sean O'Neill Lennon and Les Claypool?
- 25:35SPEAKER_09: Is that right?
- 25:36SPEAKER_09: I have no idea.
- 25:37SPEAKER_09: The great The Great Parrot ox and the golden egg of empathy.
- 25:42SPEAKER_10: Well, it definitely sounds like a Les Claypool.
- 25:44SPEAKER_10: It does, doesn't it?
- 25:45SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 25:46SPEAKER_09: Uh let's see.
- 25:48SPEAKER_09: That's a reissue.
- 25:50SPEAKER_09: That's a reissue.
- 25:52SPEAKER_09: Uh Jeff Tate's uh Operation Mind Crime 3.
- 25:54SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 25:55SPEAKER_09: Also comes out May 1st.
- 25:56SPEAKER_09: May 1st, yeah.
- 25:57SPEAKER_10: Um I'm I'm curious about that one.
- 25:59SPEAKER_09: I am too.
- 26:00SPEAKER_10: I'm really curious.
- 26:01SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I am too.
- 26:02SPEAKER_10: Because the first one was so monumentally awesome, and the second one sucked monkey butt.
- 26:08SPEAKER_10: So I'm hoping the third will be a nice like nice, you know.
- 26:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 26:14SPEAKER_10: I I don't expect it to be as good as the first one, but I hope I hope it's way better than the second one.
- 26:19SPEAKER_09: I agree.
- 26:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 26:20SPEAKER_10: If it achieves that, I'm happy.
- 26:22SPEAKER_09: Do you know the band The Toadies?
- 26:24SPEAKER_10: I've heard of the Toadies.
- 26:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they have a new new album called uh The Charmer.
- 26:28SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 26:28SPEAKER_09: That is also coming out.
- 26:29SPEAKER_09: We have a a song from the Black Keys new album, Peaches.
- 26:32SPEAKER_09: Uh, this is one called You Got to Lose.
- 26:36SPEAKER_09: So let's see if we can get this going.
- 26:37SPEAKER_09: Senator Collins?
- 26:38SPEAKER_10: No, of course.
- 26:39SPEAKER_10: Senator Collins doesn't have an album.
- 26:41SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 26:43SPEAKER_10: She's a politician.
- 26:44SPEAKER_10: She's useless.
- 26:46SPEAKER_09: Alright, here.
- 26:46SPEAKER_09: Let's see.
- 26:47SPEAKER_09: This is You Got to Lose by the Black Keys.
- 26:52SPEAKER_09: It's a video, so that's why you're hearing all of this.
- 26:55SPEAKER_10: For those of you never been to Hernandez Hadden, like somebody doesn't need to bang the women.
- 27:05SPEAKER_09: Again, what you're hearing is the beginning of a video for the black keys.
- 27:11SPEAKER_10: Black keys.
- 27:12SPEAKER_09: Here we go.
- 27:13SPEAKER_10: Happy birthday.
- 27:28SPEAKER_10: They do?
- 27:29SPEAKER_10: Looks like there's three people in there.
- 27:31SPEAKER_10: Oh my god, right.
- 27:36SPEAKER_09: I do like the black beans.
- 27:37SPEAKER_10: I do too.
- 27:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:38SPEAKER_10: I mean, they're really, really good.
- 27:40SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 27:46SPEAKER_10: I always lump them and monkey junk together.
- 27:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:49SPEAKER_10: It's that throwback.
- 27:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that throwback sound and vibe.
- 27:53SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 27:55unknown: I see trouble coming down the line.
- 27:58SPEAKER_09: It's a pretty good song.
- 27:59SPEAKER_09: It is a good song.
- 28:00SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 28:00SPEAKER_09: I like the riff.
- 28:01SPEAKER_09: I like everything about it, really.
- 28:03SPEAKER_09: Looking ahead to May 8th.
- 28:07SPEAKER_09: That's a reissue.
- 28:09SPEAKER_09: Linda Perry from the Four Non Blondes.
- 28:12SPEAKER_09: Oh.

- 33:07SPEAKER_15: Looking back on your life.
- 33:09SPEAKER_15: You go, wow, did we really do that?
- 33:13SPEAKER_15: All of that comes flooding back.
- 33:15SPEAKER_15: It's like a dream.
- 33:17SPEAKER_15: Looking back at white and black reminders of my past.
- 33:26SPEAKER_15: Smokey bars, cheap guitars, but nothing built to last.
- 33:36SPEAKER_15: Nothing ever stays.
- 33:41SPEAKER_15: Nothing comes to mind.
- 33:46SPEAKER_15: No one can erase the days we left behind.
- 33:54SPEAKER_09: Okay, couple things I'll say about it.
- 33:57SPEAKER_09: Um is he singing that way on purpose?
- 34:01SPEAKER_09: Or does he just I mean I know he's 80 something.
- 34:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 34:05SPEAKER_09: Is he just sounding old?
- 34:07SPEAKER_10: I think his age is catching up to him.
- 34:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah, he's just sounding old.
- 34:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 34:10SPEAKER_09: I mean, he's been singing since he was a teenager.
- 34:12SPEAKER_09: It still sounds great.
- 34:14SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 34:15SPEAKER_09: Don't get me wrong, but it didn't sound like the Paul McCartney that was.
- 34:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's not what we we have come to know and love.
- 34:20SPEAKER_10: His voice, I mean.
- 34:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 34:22SPEAKER_09: The song sounded great.
- 34:23SPEAKER_10: The song's good, yeah.
- 34:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:25SPEAKER_10: I I mean he's always had a way with words.
- 34:27SPEAKER_09: It sounds like something that I would pick up.
- 34:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:29SPEAKER_09: So that's uh The Boys of Dungeon Lane.
- 34:32SPEAKER_09: It comes out uh, like I said, May 29th.
- 34:35SPEAKER_09: Looking ahead uh to June and beyond.
- 34:40SPEAKER_09: Uh let's see, that's a reissue, that's a collection, that's a collection.
- 34:45SPEAKER_09: Uh that's a collection or reissue, it looks like.
- 34:50SPEAKER_09: Um I think.
- 34:53SPEAKER_09: George Thorgood and the Destroyers, the baddest show on earth.
- 34:56SPEAKER_09: It's a standard and high-res digital CD or LP editions.
- 35:00SPEAKER_09: That may be new.
- 35:01SPEAKER_09: That might be a new uh like a new album, a new live album or something.
- 35:05SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 35:06SPEAKER_09: Um Hawkwind Psychedelic Selection.
- 35:10SPEAKER_09: Yes, has a new album coming out called Aurora.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: Senator Collins.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: No, we don't want to.
- 35:16SPEAKER_09: Senator Collins does not have an album.
- 35:17SPEAKER_09: We're giving Senator Collins so much free advertising.
- 35:20SPEAKER_09: She doesn't deserve it.
- 35:21SPEAKER_09: Here we go.
- 35:22SPEAKER_09: This is Aurora from Yes.
- 35:41SPEAKER_10: Why do I feel a Disney movie's about to start?
- 35:43SPEAKER_10: Well, look at it.
- 35:46SPEAKER_10: What's with that guy's eyebrows?
- 35:49SPEAKER_10: Is this AI?
- 35:51SPEAKER_08: It could be.
- 35:52unknown: I don't know.
- 36:00SPEAKER_09: This is this is yes, right?
- 36:03SPEAKER_09: That's what you said.
- 36:15SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 36:17SPEAKER_10: Okay, now it's getting better.
- 36:33SPEAKER_09: We could be listening to this for like three minutes before they start singing.
- 36:37SPEAKER_09: Right?
- 36:38SPEAKER_09: What is yes?
- 36:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 36:53SPEAKER_09: I have a love-hate relationship with yes.
- 36:56SPEAKER_10: It's really an acquired taste.
- 36:58SPEAKER_10: Well, I mean even I uh and I love prog rock.
- 37:01SPEAKER_10: Yeah, but even then, even then I'm all I can leave or take them.
- 37:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 37:05SPEAKER_10: So yeah.
- 37:07SPEAKER_08: I mean you have to appreciate the talent.
- 37:08SPEAKER_08: Yes, I was oh yeah, absolutely.
- 37:10SPEAKER_10: Um this is like a this is like a cross between 2112 and uh um uh some Disney cartoon movie.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 37:22SPEAKER_10: You know what I mean?
- 37:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:25SPEAKER_09: Um all right, I think I've heard enough.
- 37:27SPEAKER_09: That's called Aurora, and their album is I mean, once they got into the song or something.
- 37:31SPEAKER_10: Yeah, the song's pretty good.
- 37:32SPEAKER_09: Sounds like, yes.
- 37:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so yeah.
- 37:34SPEAKER_09: Um I would say that Joe Bonhomasa, the spirit of Rory, live from Cork, comes out uh in June or beyond.
- 37:45SPEAKER_09: Uh that's Rory Gallagher, of course, Irish blues guitar player.
- 37:49SPEAKER_09: Uh so he's doing some Rory Gallagher songs, I'm sure.
- 37:52SPEAKER_09: Cool.
- 37:53SPEAKER_09: Um and it says here coming out, it must be um sometime this year, after June, a new album from Foreigner called The Eye of the Storm.
- 38:05SPEAKER_09: So I'll be interested to see.
- 38:06SPEAKER_09: Obviously, it'll be their new lead singer.
- 38:08SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 38:08SPEAKER_09: Um so yeah.
- 38:11SPEAKER_09: That's our new release list.
- 38:14SPEAKER_09: Uh speaking of new releases, Foo Fighters have released a second single from their upcoming album, Your Favorite Toy.
- 38:21SPEAKER_09: Um the album comes out April 24th.
- 38:25SPEAKER_09: Because we already talked about it.
- 38:26SPEAKER_09: Coming right up.
- 38:26SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 38:27SPEAKER_09: Uh but this is a song called Of All People.
- 38:31SPEAKER_09: Uh this is let me just make sure that there's no Susan Collins.
- 38:36SPEAKER_09: There will be.
- 38:37SPEAKER_09: There will be.
- 38:37SPEAKER_09: Of course there is.
- 38:38SPEAKER_09: There is.
- 38:40SPEAKER_09: Interestingly enough, I think it's just a short one.
- 38:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's a short one.
- 38:43SPEAKER_09: So, oh, but there's another ad.
- 38:46SPEAKER_09: So let's.
- 38:47SPEAKER_09: And this one's oh, here we go.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: Of all people for Foo Fighters.
- 39:48SPEAKER_09: It is kind of refreshing because, you know, but here we are, which was I think that's what it's called, their last album.
- 39:56SPEAKER_09: Uh, which was in the wake of Taylor Hawkins' death.
- 39:59SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 39:59SPEAKER_09: It was it was deep.
- 40:01SPEAKER_09: It was pretty mellow.
- 40:02SPEAKER_09: And mellow.
- 40:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 40:03SPEAKER_09: Uh so it's kind of refreshing.
- 40:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they're back to their old ways.
- 40:07SPEAKER_09: Did we did we play your favorite toy?
- 40:10SPEAKER_09: The first single?
- 40:11SPEAKER_10: No, I don't know.
- 40:11SPEAKER_09: I don't remember.
- 40:13SPEAKER_09: I don't remember if we did or not.
- 40:14SPEAKER_09: Uh but hey, it's a car ad, not Susan Gollins.
- 40:17SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 40:18SPEAKER_09: Wow.
- 40:18SPEAKER_09: Um, your favorite toy, I think, is the name of the album, too, right?
- 40:21SPEAKER_09: That's what we said.
- 41:12SPEAKER_09: I'm not sure how I feel about it.
- 41:15SPEAKER_09: It's not bad.
- 41:16SPEAKER_09: It's typical Oviders.
- 41:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I guess so.
- 41:20SPEAKER_09: Track listing goes like this for the new album.
- 41:23SPEAKER_09: Caught in the echo of all people, Window, your favorite toy, if you only knew, Spit Shine, Unconditional, Child Actor, Amen Caveman, asking for a friend.
- 41:39SPEAKER_09: Who am I kidding?
- 41:40SPEAKER_09: I'm probably gonna get it.
- 41:43unknown: Some of you are.
- 41:46SPEAKER_09: So anyway, that comes out, like I said, uh April twenty-four.
- 41:52SPEAKER_09: Yes, April 24.
- 41:54SPEAKER_09: New stuff from Foo Fighters called your favorite toy.
- 41:59SPEAKER_09: Uh, do you want to go ahead and kind of peruse this or do you want to skip this and and go right to this?
- 42:05SPEAKER_09: No, let's do this.
- 42:05SPEAKER_09: Let's do this?
- 42:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 42:06SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 42:07SPEAKER_09: Ultimate classicrock.com has a headline, five eighties bands that should have been bigger.
- 42:14SPEAKER_09: And I think we probably all have our, you know, I haven't had time to think about it, but there are there are always bands that we think should have been bigger, should have hit their, you know, um their lottery number.
- 42:28SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 42:28SPEAKER_09: Um and and gone on to bigger better things, but they fizzled for some reason.
- 42:35SPEAKER_09: And so uh Ultimate Classic Rock.com has come up with their list of the five uh bands from the 80s that should have been bigger.
- 42:44SPEAKER_09: The first one I have never heard of.
- 42:46SPEAKER_09: The DBs.
- 42:47SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 42:48SPEAKER_09: You've heard of them?
- 42:49SPEAKER_09: Mm-hmm.
- 42:50SPEAKER_09: Uh do you know any of them?
- 42:51SPEAKER_10: They're kinda they're kinda new waves.
- 42:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 42:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 42:56SPEAKER_09: Um DBs set an alt rock uh and power pop standard with their first two albums that uh that their North Carolina rooted group struggled to match again.
- 43:05SPEAKER_09: This is called Black and White from the DBs.
- 43:18SPEAKER_10: Oh, Peter Holsapple's in this band.
- 43:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 43:21SPEAKER_10: This is what he did before uh uh REM there.
- 43:25SPEAKER_10: I can for some reason I think we talked about the D Bs a long time ago.
- 43:29SPEAKER_10: Did we?
- 43:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 43:31SPEAKER_02: I never would hurt you.
- 43:34SPEAKER_09: Maybe we did.
- 43:35SPEAKER_09: Now that now that I say that.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: You never would tell me.
- 43:40SPEAKER_09: I can understand why they weren't big though, for some reason.
- 43:42SPEAKER_09: I don't know why.
- 43:45SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's not bad, but no, it's not bad.
- 43:47SPEAKER_02: It's you know I don't enjoy you at you.
- 43:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I love Peter Holt's apple.
- 43:56SPEAKER_09: That's uh that's a talented dude right there.
- 43:59SPEAKER_09: Uh number For Huskerdoo.
- 44:01SPEAKER_09: Now I have heard of Husker Doo.
- 44:04SPEAKER_09: Uh makes no Senator Collins.
- 44:08SPEAKER_10: Oh my goodness.
- 44:09SPEAKER_10: Sticking her nose in where it doesn't belong.
- 44:12SPEAKER_09: It's so true.
- 44:14SPEAKER_09: All these politicians are.
- 44:15unknown: I ain't politicians.
- 44:16unknown: Me too.
- 44:30unknown: It's important.
- 44:31SPEAKER_09: This is a bold statement.
- 44:33SPEAKER_09: Would you agree with this?
- 44:34SPEAKER_09: Without Husker Doo, there's no Nirvana.
- 44:37SPEAKER_10: I I would agree with that.
- 44:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 44:40SPEAKER_10: Well, I mean, Dave Dave Grohl put it, the lead singer on uh uh what was that album?
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: Is that Bob Mould?
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: No, those are the songwriters.
- 44:52SPEAKER_10: No.
- 44:52SPEAKER_10: Uh what was the album?
- 44:55SPEAKER_10: It was the one it was the album with rope on it.
- 44:58SPEAKER_09: Oh, uh Midnight Um music.
- 45:01SPEAKER_10: Something yeah, like that.
- 45:02SPEAKER_10: That it was that album.
- 45:03SPEAKER_10: He had him come in and do it.
- 45:05SPEAKER_09: Did he really?
- 45:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 45:07SPEAKER_10: He's a big fan of Husker Duke.
- 45:09SPEAKER_09: So I guess I can hear I guess I can hear that.
- 45:13SPEAKER_09: Uh number three, the church.
- 45:15SPEAKER_09: Ah, you remember the church.
- 45:17SPEAKER_09: They had a huge hit in the 80s.
- 45:19SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 45:19SPEAKER_09: Um 1988, actually, uh, that they made the charts.
- 45:26SPEAKER_09: Right here.
- 45:26SPEAKER_09: Under the Milky Way.
- 45:28SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 45:28SPEAKER_09: It was a good song.
- 45:29SPEAKER_12: It was Sometimes when this place gets kind of empty.
- 45:46SPEAKER_12: It's time of the breath babies with the light.
- 45:53SPEAKER_12: I think a bad.
- 45:56SPEAKER_12: Love the back.
- 46:09SPEAKER_09: I don't want to just hear the chorus because I like the chorus.
- 46:11SPEAKER_12: I like the whole song, but I got here we go.
- 46:36SPEAKER_12: Which I do what you want for.
- 46:43SPEAKER_12: Might I know what you would find.
- 46:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I think that was actually it's uh number 22.
- 46:50SPEAKER_09: So it broke the top 50, top 40, really.
- 46:54SPEAKER_09: Never made the top 10, but it was it's on every uh 80s collection that I've ever seen.
- 46:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 46:59SPEAKER_09: The church is under the Milky Way.
- 47:01SPEAKER_09: Number two, the replacements.
- 47:02SPEAKER_09: Oh, I agree with this.
- 47:03SPEAKER_09: I love the replacements.
- 47:04SPEAKER_09: I agree with this.
- 47:05SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 47:06SPEAKER_09: Um Paul Westerberg uh was is a genius.
- 47:11SPEAKER_09: Um but apparently they had uh some I don't know, substance issues.
- 47:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I definitely agree with this one.
- 48:38SPEAKER_09: Uh number one, the fix.
- 48:41SPEAKER_09: Do you remember the fix?
- 48:42SPEAKER_09: I do.
- 48:43SPEAKER_09: Um didn't they do one thing leads to another?
- 48:46SPEAKER_09: I think yeah, they did.
- 48:47SPEAKER_09: Well, one thing leads to another.
- 48:52SPEAKER_09: And then this one.
- 48:53SPEAKER_10: He's probably he probably went into producing.
- 48:55SPEAKER_09: Westerberg?
- 48:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 48:56SPEAKER_09: Uh well that'd be my guess.
- 48:58SPEAKER_09: We'll play this one from the fix saved by zero.
- 49:00SPEAKER_09: I'll uh I'll look it up here.
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: Maybe some note say by the work.
- 49:46SPEAKER_09: Would you agree the fix should have been bigger?
- 49:51SPEAKER_09: It's one of those.
- 49:52SPEAKER_09: Do you remember Ice House?
- 49:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:54SPEAKER_09: I feel the same thing about Ice House that I do about the fix.
- 49:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:56SPEAKER_09: You know, they were good as a one or two defender.
- 49:59SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 50:00SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 50:00SPEAKER_10: Nothing super special.
- 50:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 50:03SPEAKER_09: Uh good stuff.
- 50:04SPEAKER_09: I mean, good memories.
- 50:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 50:05SPEAKER_09: Right?
- 50:05SPEAKER_09: I mean, that's that's very nostalgic.
- 50:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 50:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 50:08SPEAKER_09: Uh Paul Westerberg, last thing Paul, he did a lot of solo albums after the replacements.
- 50:13SPEAKER_09: Um in late 2015, he announced he had formed a new band uh with Juliana Hatfield.
- 50:20SPEAKER_09: Uh called the I Don't Cares.
- 50:23SPEAKER_09: I like that.
- 50:24SPEAKER_09: Their debut album, Wild Stab, was released in January 2016.
- 50:29SPEAKER_09: So it's been 10 years and he hasn't done anything.
- 50:32SPEAKER_09: Nothing since.
- 50:32SPEAKER_09: Nothing since.
- 50:33SPEAKER_09: So probably just hanging out.
- 50:36SPEAKER_09: Chilling.
- 50:37SPEAKER_09: Just chillin'.
- 50:38SPEAKER_09: Chilling like a villain.
- 50:39SPEAKER_09: Chillin' like a villain.
- 50:40SPEAKER_09: Uh let's do this.
- 50:42SPEAKER_09: Let's move on.
- 50:44SPEAKER_09: Yay! Another poorly explained movie.
- 50:47SPEAKER_09: Yay! I have picked three I think you will get.
- 50:51SPEAKER_09: And one that I think you will not get.
- 50:53SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 50:54SPEAKER_09: You surprise me every time.
- 50:56SPEAKER_09: Um so here is number one.
- 51:01SPEAKER_09: Um the poorly ex poor explanation is a metal cow breaks up a marriage.
- 51:11SPEAKER_09: Hold on, my phone is ringing.
- 51:12SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna say, what is that?
- 51:14SPEAKER_09: It's it's a it says rangely main.
- 51:18SPEAKER_09: This is my phone- my ring tone now.
- 51:20SPEAKER_09: Oh, nice.
- 51:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so uh it's a it's a um what do you call it?
- 51:25SPEAKER_09: Uh potential spam.
- 51:26SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 51:27SPEAKER_09: So I don't even go there.
- 51:28SPEAKER_09: Block.
- 51:29SPEAKER_09: A metal cow breaks up a marriage.
- 51:37SPEAKER_10: Metal cow.
- 51:40SPEAKER_10: Okay, that's a hint.
- 51:41SPEAKER_09: The hint is a lady wanted to ride it in 1980.
- 51:50SPEAKER_10: I have no idea.
- 51:53SPEAKER_09: Um, a metal cow.
- 51:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, a metal cow.
- 52:03SPEAKER_09: Urban cowboy?
- 52:04SPEAKER_09: Urban cowboy.
- 52:06SPEAKER_09: Nobody saw the uh the clue that I give you, which was riding a bull.
- 52:11SPEAKER_09: Um yeah, a metal cow breaks up a marriage.
- 52:14SPEAKER_09: A lady wanted to ride it, Urban Cowboy 1980.
- 52:17SPEAKER_09: You got it though.
- 52:19SPEAKER_10: I was gonna say that a rhinestone cowboy, but so it was close.
- 52:24SPEAKER_09: Uh here's number two.
- 52:26SPEAKER_09: Unemployed actors get shot at repeatedly.
- 52:35SPEAKER_10: Unemployed actors.
- 52:41SPEAKER_09: Here's the clue or the hint.
- 52:43SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 52:43SPEAKER_09: They have fancy hats.
- 52:46SPEAKER_09: 1986.
- 52:50SPEAKER_09: Uh maybe you haven't seen this one.
- 52:53SPEAKER_10: Doesn't sound familiar.
- 53:00SPEAKER_09: I don't have a clue.
- 53:02SPEAKER_09: Three amigos.
- 53:03SPEAKER_10: Ow!
- 53:04SPEAKER_09: Chevy Chase see Martin and Martin Short.
- 53:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 53:07SPEAKER_09: Is that who it was?
- 53:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 53:09SPEAKER_09: Um so I thought you'd get that one, you did not.
- 53:13SPEAKER_10: Well, I haven't seen that movie for.
- 53:14SPEAKER_10: I think I only saw it once.
- 53:16SPEAKER_10: That was it.
- 53:16SPEAKER_09: You'll get this one.
- 53:17SPEAKER_09: No problem.
- 53:19SPEAKER_09: You may need the hint, but you'll get it.
- 53:21SPEAKER_09: No, actually, I I don't think you'll need the hint.
- 53:23SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 53:23SPEAKER_09: I think you'll get it right away.
- 53:24SPEAKER_09: A man plays the piano with his feet.
- 53:29SPEAKER_10: Um.
- 53:33SPEAKER_09: Nope.
- 53:33SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 53:34SPEAKER_09: Nope.
- 53:35SPEAKER_10: Getty Lee.
- 53:37SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 53:39SPEAKER_09: Oh, big.
- 53:40SPEAKER_09: Big.
- 53:41SPEAKER_09: See, I told you you'd get it without the hint.
- 53:43SPEAKER_09: The hint was he's a kid inside.
- 53:45SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 53:46SPEAKER_09: From uh 1988.
- 53:47SPEAKER_09: That of course Tom Hanks.
- 53:49SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 53:50SPEAKER_09: Oh, I love that movie.
- 53:50SPEAKER_09: Alright, the one I think you won't get, and maybe you will.
- 53:53SPEAKER_09: Maybe you'll make up for that one you missed.
- 53:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 53:55SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 53:56SPEAKER_09: We'll see.
- 53:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I don't know.
- 53:59SPEAKER_09: Here is the explanation.
- 54:01SPEAKER_09: A college student's ear gets him into lounge music.
- 54:12SPEAKER_09: The hint is, you know what the hint?
- 54:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:15SPEAKER_09: He found it in a field.
- 54:20SPEAKER_09: This just goes to show how weird this movie was.
- 54:23SPEAKER_09: 1986, by the way.
- 54:25SPEAKER_09: Don't have a clue.
- 54:26SPEAKER_09: Blue Velvet.
- 54:28SPEAKER_09: Never saw it.
- 54:28SPEAKER_09: Never saw it.
- 54:29SPEAKER_09: See, that's that's that's I figured you wouldn't get that one.
- 54:32SPEAKER_09: No.
- 54:32SPEAKER_09: But the uh never saw it.
- 54:35SPEAKER_09: The uh unemployed actors get shot at repeatedly.
- 54:37SPEAKER_09: Three Amigos.
- 54:38SPEAKER_09: I thought you would get that one, but that's okay.
- 54:39SPEAKER_10: Makes sense now.
- 54:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:41SPEAKER_09: Uh I think I don't know that I've seen that movie all the way through.
- 54:44SPEAKER_09: Three Amigos?
- 54:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:45SPEAKER_10: I saw a log forever ago when it first came out.
- 54:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:48SPEAKER_10: But I had never watched it since.
- 54:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:51SPEAKER_09: Um, okay.
- 54:53SPEAKER_09: Now we have to um well, you know.
- 54:56SPEAKER_10: We gotta do that.
- 54:58SPEAKER_09: Do this do this thing.
- 54:58SPEAKER_09: Are you ready?
- 54:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah, baby.
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: Yay, me.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: It's time for everyone's favorite part of the show.
- 55:05SPEAKER_00: With everyone's favorites, O'Brien, Doug, Cousin Larry, and yours truly, Miss Judge Ness.
- 55:11SPEAKER_00: Sipiness, sippyness.
- 55:13SPEAKER_00: It's time to play mixtape, mixtape.
- 55:17SPEAKER_09: Alrighty, Rue.
- 55:19SPEAKER_09: We're gonna do the past first, as usual.
- 55:23SPEAKER_09: Try not to forget the future this time.
- 55:25SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 55:25SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 55:26SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 55:27SPEAKER_10: Are we ready?
- 55:29SPEAKER_10: We're ready, yes.
- 55:30SPEAKER_10: Here is Miss Judgeness herself.
- 55:35SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, that was quite a range of picks for mixtape this week, and they were great.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: I really enjoyed them.
- 55:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I had to go with Cousin Larry's pick this week.
- 55:44SPEAKER_00: Oh raindrops keep falling on my head.
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: Uh it's just funny.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: Um, the idea of that song playing during um a shootout in a western.
- 55:54SPEAKER_00: It's very fitting and kind of a weird, almost morbid sense of humor.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, so I really liked that pick.
- 56:02SPEAKER_09: I think that's why they put it in the movie.
- 56:03SPEAKER_09: Like, probably, yeah, yeah.
- 56:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 56:05SPEAKER_09: Um that's fair.
- 56:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah, absolutely.
- 56:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I'll uh I'll take that.
- 56:09SPEAKER_09: Um, alright.
- 56:10SPEAKER_09: Now we have to do the um present.
- 56:18SPEAKER_09: Present.
- 56:19SPEAKER_09: Present.
- 56:20SPEAKER_09: Now uh I'll tell I went one one way with this.
- 56:26SPEAKER_09: I'm interested to hear out which way um Cousin Larry went.
- 56:30SPEAKER_09: Um play the country song that best describes the totality of your senior year in high school.
- 56:39SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 56:40SPEAKER_09: What was Cousin Larry saying?
- 56:42SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 56:43SPEAKER_10: Cousin Larry.
- 56:45SPEAKER_10: I w I really would like to say that Toby Key's How Do You Like Me Now describes it, but sadly you will not hear me singing on your radio.
- 56:54SPEAKER_10: Kenny Chesney's song I Go Back really hits home as I had an awesome girlfriend lost a best friend to a car accident when he was 16, and Jack and Diane was the song in the fall of 82 when my senior year began.
- 57:08SPEAKER_10: But I think Blaine Larsons in my high school kind of just describes everything that was going on.
- 57:15SPEAKER_10: Honorable mention to Like a Rock by Bob Seeger, not really a country song, but right because I really felt that way back then.
- 57:24SPEAKER_10: I just didn't know it.
- 57:25SPEAKER_10: I just didn't know until I got much older.
- 57:28SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 57:29SPEAKER_09: So in my high school, Blaine Larcy.
- 57:38SPEAKER_06: In my school we separate the rich from the rest.
- 57:46SPEAKER_06: Those who wear rags from those who only wear the best.
- 57:52SPEAKER_06: And in my school they hold assemblies for the football team, but never for the kids with different dreams.
- 58:05SPEAKER_06: It's every high school.
- 58:06SPEAKER_06: We've got jobs, we've got smokers, rednecks and jokers.
- 58:14SPEAKER_06: There's a category for us all.
- 58:20SPEAKER_06: And we struggle with our homework.
- 58:25SPEAKER_06: Our teachers and their rules.
- 58:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they think we're just adolescent fools.
- 58:35SPEAKER_06: In my school, there's some who think they're tough as they can be.
- 58:42SPEAKER_06: But when I look in their eyes, all I see is insecurity.
- 58:49SPEAKER_09: I would say that fits.
- 58:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah, absolutely.
- 58:53SPEAKER_09: Me neither.
- 58:53SPEAKER_09: Uh Blaine Larson in my high school.
- 58:56SPEAKER_09: Um see, I went a I w I'm in a different route, but that's okay.
- 59:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 59:00SPEAKER_09: What what would you do?
- 59:02SPEAKER_10: Well, I I had the worst time trying to come up on.
- 59:06SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 59:07SPEAKER_10: But I ended up on that Brad Paisley song about um starting a band.
- 59:14SPEAKER_09: Oh, start with the one with Keith Urban?
- 59:15SPEAKER_09: No.
- 59:16SPEAKER_09: No.
- 59:16SPEAKER_10: No, one where he's like my ex-girlfriend should catch the kiss my back.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_09: Easy money, okay.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_09: That's a great song, easy money.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_09: I thought I'd get it.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_09: So let's go back.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_09: Uh and of course what I just did.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_09: There we go.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_09: This is a great song.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_09: Yep, there's the one.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_13: I remember working on the rooftop.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_13: The hot summer stun all day.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_13: Now I work two hours tonight.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_13: Feels a lot more likely.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_13: To hang dry wall.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_13: And look down in the man.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_13: You have to come.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_13: All the way to the bag.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_14: Call to money.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_14: But stand up in the butt.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_14: Make it bad.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_09: Earn that paint check, little boy.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_09: Uh, we should go to the last verse, because that's what you were talking about.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I love that.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_09: I love that last.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_10: I love that last verse.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_04: Why don't you quit that?
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, here we go.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_09: This verse is great.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_13: You oughta get a real job.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_13: Why don't you quit that band?
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_13: Now she can kiss my backstage fat.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_14: All the way to the band.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_08: Such a great story.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_08: I love Brad Pavel.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_08: Me too.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_08: Me too.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_10: Um I mean that's not that's not autobiography or anything, but it wasn't.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_10: Right, right.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_10: I mean, we we always wanted to be in a band.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_10: When we were in high school, and I was like, you know, now here we are.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_10: We're in a bunch of bands.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_10: You know.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_10: A lot of bands.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_10: I mean, it's not easy money, but I mean we're some of it is some of it is.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_10: Well, some of it is, but I mean it we're pretty lucky that we get that's what we get to do.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_10: You know what I mean?
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_09: So um so I I went a different route.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_09: Sort of.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_09: Uh so the question was play the country song that best describes the totality of your senior year in high school.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_09: Well I I picked a song from 1992.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_09: Like when I graduated.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_09: So it would have been like it represented my senior year in high school because it was from that year.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it makes sense.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_09: And also it described my senior year.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_09: Um, and so that song happens to be.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_05: I'm in a hurry to get away.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_05: Oh, great song, man.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_05: Russian Russian to last no fun.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_05: All I really gotta do is live and die, but I'm in a hurry and don't know why.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_09: You gotta get things done for your senior year, right?
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_09: You gotta get your senior pictures taken, your class ring.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_09: Get prom date.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_09: You know, and you get a graduation and get scholarships and fill all that paperwork out.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_09: Pick a college.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_09: I'm going through that right now with my son.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_09: But yeah, this was from 1992.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_09: Um, the year I graduated high school.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_09: It's Alabama, and I'm in a hurry, and don't know why.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_09: So there we go.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_09: That's my choice.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_09: That's a good one.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_09: That is I'm in a hurry by Alabama.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_09: I like this song a lot.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_09: Easy Money by Brad Paisley was yours, and Cousin Larry was Blaine Larson in my high school.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_09: All great choices, I think.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_09: I think so.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_10: Uh this is gonna drive the judge nuts because it is.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_10: She does.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_10: He's not a big country music fan.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_10: So um, yeah.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_10: But she'll she'll she'll enjoy it.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_09: I'm sure she will.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_09: Um, so that's it.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_09: Nope.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_09: Or oh no, I see.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_09: I almost did it again.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_09: You can't do it again.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_09: Holy cow.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_09: You need to, you need to chill out, young man.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_09: I know, apparently.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_09: My goodness.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_09: Boys, oh boys.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_09: Let's do the future.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_09: Do you have uh I do.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_09: Do I need to turn on the light for you?
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_10: I even took a picture of it.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_09: Already?
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_10: Came off pretty good.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_10: Play your favorite slow dance, love jam from junior high.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_09: Ooh, so this says we are going back to when we were in junior high.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_09: Slow dance.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_09: Slow dance.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_09: Love jam.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_09: Love jam.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_09: Alright, we I can do that.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_09: That's that'll be cool.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_09: It'll be fun, yeah.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_09: Reminiscing.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_09: That'll that'll bring back some memories.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_09: Yes, it will.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_09: It will.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_10: Yeah, just sitting at the school dance, sitting next to the speakers, not talking to you.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_10: Boys on one side, girls on the other, not talking to anybody.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_10: Watching Mr.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_10: Pierce dance the quiet riot.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_09: Um Alright.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_09: So there's mixtape for this week.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_09: And we're gonna take a break.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_09: We'll come back, we'll climb the wall of tunes, and then wrap this thing up.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_10: Just yeah.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_10: I was gonna say something that I just left my brain.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_10: That happens all the time.

- 1:07:11SPEAKER_09: Thank you.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_09: Uh, it's time to uh do this.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_07: O'Brien and Doug's wall.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_07: Oh two, two.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_07: That's right.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_09: Okay, so I'm gonna take off my headphones.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna climb the wall.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_09: And uh I'm gonna pick an album and you're gonna sit there and like it.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_10: Well, I have a trivia question.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_10: Oh, okay.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_10: So you can listen to this while uh Do I answer it or no?
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_10: Well you can answer it because this is it's Van Halen trivia.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_10: Oh, okay.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_10: So uh in 2016, Sammy Hagar began filming his own television show entitled Which of the Following?
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_10: A, the Sammy Hagar show, B, Rock and Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar, C, Life of Hagar, or D rocking with Sammy Hagar.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_09: B Rock and Roll Road Trip.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_09: I used to watch it all the time.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_09: So on it was on Access TV.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_09: There we go.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah, there you go.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_09: Rock and roll, roll trip, rock and roll.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_09: Thank you.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_09: Thank you.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_09: That was a good show, actually.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_10: I never saw it.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I it's uh you know, I I wish they would like carry that somewhere.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_09: Like like you could stream that you know if you wanted to.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_09: It must be somewhere.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_09: Oh, I'm sure it is.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_09: Um but yeah, no, I would watch it.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_10: You just have to get the app and pay exactly eight bucks a month for it.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_10: You could do it.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_10: Exactly.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_10: No problem, because everything's streaming now.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_10: It's much more convenient.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_09: You know, if we we lose the internet, then you're out of luck.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you're just not gonna watch.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_10: That's why I buy DVDs still.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_10: Blu-ray.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_09: I I've got a bunch of them.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_09: I can't, you know.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_10: I'm not gonna get rid of them.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_09: Uh alright.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_09: I have an album.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_10: Begin.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_10: Is it a band?
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_10: Is it a rock band?
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_10: Super rock band.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_09: What does that mean?
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_10: No idea.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_10: I just saying words at this point.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_10: I think they're super.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_10: They're super.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_10: Um height of popularity.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_09: Um I guess I would say the eighties.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_10: Are they kind of uh pop rock?
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_10: Are they hard rock?
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_10: Are they hair metal um you would hear them on the hair metal station.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_09: You would hear them on Ozzy's Boneyard.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_09: Hard rock.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_10: Is there a Van Halen involved?
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_10: No.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_10: Is it Tesla?
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_09: It is Tesla.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_09: You know the connection, right?
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_09: The song Song and Emotion, which is the song they wrote for Steve Clark.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_09: Uh the late Steve Clark of uh of Deadlipper.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_09: And Phil Collin actually produced a record or two for Tesla as well.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_09: He was their producer.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_09: I didn't know.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_09: Uh so the album that I picked is my favorite Tesla album.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_09: And I don't know if we've done it or not.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_09: Um maybe we have.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_09: If we have, I don't care.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_09: Um well, they're all good.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they are all good.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_09: This is the Great Radio Controversy.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_09: Great album.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_09: This is this just brings back memories from high school.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_08: I still think it's their best album.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_09: And you can almost hear a little bit of Def Leopard in some of this album.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah, a little bit.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_10: Surprisingly, this is only the second time we've done Tesla.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_10: Really?
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_09: First time was probably this album.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_10: It might have been, you never know.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_10: Might have been the greatest hits, too.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_09: I mean, you know what?
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_09: It might it might have been the greatest hits.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_09: Interestingly, this song is not on the greatest hits.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's weird.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_09: Uh this is a great song too.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_09: Ah yeah, Lady Luck.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_09: I think I know why I thought we might have done this album.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_09: Because I think when we were talking about the Greatest Hits album, I think I probably went, you know what?
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_09: This is great, but I want to go back to this album.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_09: I really like this song.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah, goodbye, yeah.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_09: We did get an email.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_09: What?
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_09: We did get an email.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_09: We did from Bouncin' Bob.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_09: Oh, Bob! Yeah.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_10: Hey Bob.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_08: Uh he has another idea.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_08: Which we'll talk about and maybe do next time.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_08: Oh, Bob is our de facto producer.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_08: Apparently.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_08: So um he has good ideas.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_08: He does, actually.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_09: Uh let me go here.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_09: This is be a man.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_09: Actually, let me just do the let me go back to uh the the big ones from this album.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_09: Uh lazy days and crazy nights.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_09: Didn't this bring back memories?
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_09: I know, man.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_09: Oh man.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_10: What year was this again?
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_09: This was I'm gonna say eighty-nine?
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_09: Eighty-nine?
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah, hold on.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_09: Eighty-nine, you are very right.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_08: My favorite Tesla song is on this album.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_08: Do you know any guesses as to what it is?
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_08: It's not a love song.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_08: It's not.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_01: Is it uh is it Edison's medicine?
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_01: It is not.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_01: That's not on this album.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, is it not?
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, I thought it was.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_01: This is my favorite one.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_10: Oh, this is uh uh uh uh uh Jesus girl, what's the freaking name?
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_09: Don't ask me why it's my favorite.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_09: I love the riff.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_09: What's the name of this song?
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_09: Do I you want me to tell you?
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_09: Flight to Nowhere.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_10: Yes, thank you.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_10: I knew it had something to do with planes.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_09: I just love when it kicks in, you know.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_10: Well Tesla's always Tesla's always good at like bringing a song in, you know, the you know, from nothing to oh yeah.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_09: I mean so many layers here.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_08: Here we go.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah, my favorite Tesla.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_08: Oh man.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_08: I love that song.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_10: And they were they were way ahead of their time in their uh in their well, not just not just musically, but you know, talking about uh Nicola Nikola Tesla.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_09: Nikolai Tesla, yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_10: Because I mean everybody nobody nobody knew of him until just I mean, really, just realized the brilliance of him until just recently.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_09: And he was so along with like uh what is it, Marconi?
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_09: Um Marconi plays the mamba.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_09: Sorry, that's a different song.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_09: Okay but Marconi had a big hand in in uh inventing radio.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_09: And Tesla was the one that kind of I think uh what was the order there?
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_09: Tesla first and then Marconi?
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_09: I think Tesla discovered something and then Marconi took it.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_10: I think yeah, I think Tesla discovered it and Marconi kind of took it and ran with it.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_10: And then Edison took credit for it all.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_09: Did he?
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_09: For radio?
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_10: Well, I mean, I don't know about radio itself, but I th I know I know everybody was like, oh yeah, Marconi invented the radio.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_10: No, no, no, no.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_10: But Edison was famous for like stealing other people's imagination.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_09: Uh let me let's look at this here.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_09: Just because we're on that.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_09: The Marconi versus Tesla radio dispute centers on uh Marconi's commercial success in wireless telegraphy or teleg telegraphy versus Nikolai Tesla's earlier fundamental patents.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_09: Although Macroney is traditionally credited with inventing radio, the US Supreme Supreme Court invalidated several of his key patents in 1943, recognizing Tesla's prior work.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_09: Tesla filed basic radio patent applications in 1897, covering the fundamental principles of tuned radio technology.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_09: Tesla viewed radio as a means for transmitting energy and messages.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_09: Marconi applied for his first patent in eighteen eighteen ninety-six, a year before, and successfully commercialized the system with a four-circuit design.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_09: He built a practical working system but faced criticism for utilizing technologies developed earlier by Tesla, Lodge, and Stone.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_09: So Yeah.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_09: I don't see Edison in there anyway, though.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_10: Nah, I I could be wrong, but uh Well, Tesla did work for Edison for a year.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_09: Tesla sued the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company in 1915, but lack of funds caused him to drop it.
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_09: Uh conclusion, while Marconi's while Marconi secured his place in history by building the first practical commercial radio systems and winning the Nobel Prize, the Supreme Court acknowledged that Tesla's foundational inventions, such as his coil and tuning circuits, preceded Marconi's.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_09: So if it weren't for Tesla, Marconi wouldn't be you know, it wouldn't happen.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_09: So yeah.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah, named after Nikolai Tesla.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_09: Tesla.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_01: Uh so there you go.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_10: And then you had Hetty Lamar who basically invented Bluetooth.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_10: So Really?
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_10: She was wicked small.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_10: I didn't know that.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_10: Did you really?
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_10: She uh she actually invented a uh thing to help uh torpedoes find their targets easier during World War II.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_10: When did Bluetooth when when did Bluetooth You mean the technology?
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_10: The technology.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_10: She she developed the technology which later became which is basis for Bluetooth.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_10: So she was really smart, man.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_10: Interesting.
- 1:19:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, let me just read this real quick.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_09: Uh Hollywood actress Hetty Lamar, who died in 2000 actually.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_09: She she lived a long time.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_09: Uh co-invented frequency hopping spread spectrum technology during World War II to prevent enemy jamming of torpedo radio controls.
- 1:19:32SPEAKER_09: Patented in 1942 with composer George M.
- 1:19:36SPEAKER_09: Thiel.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_09: This secure communication method laid the foundational groundwork for modern Bluetooth Wi-Fi and GPS.
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_09: I had no idea.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_09: That's very cool.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah, she was she was she was brilliant.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_09: She was also very hot.
- 1:19:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah, she was very, very hot.
- 1:19:50unknown: Yeah.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_09: Uh that's uh that's pretty cool.
- 1:19:56SPEAKER_09: Uh though overlooked by the Navy at the time, the patent was later recognized as crucial for modern wireless technology, leading to her 2014 induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_09: She's often called the mother of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_09: I hadn't even heard that ever.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_09: That's pretty cool.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I watched a documentary on her and uh it was really fascinating how she I mean, she was just a natural at like you know, ma figuring out math and technology and stuff like especially back in the 30s and forties.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_10: It's like it's it's really amazing.
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_10: And she was an amazing Hollywood, she was this glamorous Hollywood actress.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_10: But here she is, like inventing, you know, stuff for you know, you know, just so torpedoes don't get jammed, you know what I mean?
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_10: So that's that's pretty cool.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_09: I I I had no idea.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah, she was a very very, very, very, very super smart lady.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_10: Very cool.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_10: Very cool.
- 1:20:47SPEAKER_09: Uh all right.
- 1:20:48SPEAKER_09: So on that note, we're going to end episode 286.
- 1:20:51SPEAKER_09: It is 286, right?
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_09: Is that what I said?
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_09: I think so.
- 1:20:56SPEAKER_09: Um pretty sure.
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_09: It's 286.
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_09: It is.
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_09: It's 286.
- 1:20:59SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_09: Uh, and uh, we're gonna, you know, go home.
- 1:21:04SPEAKER_10: Wow.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna go home.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_10: Thank you.
- 1:21:09SPEAKER_10: I appreciate that.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_10: No, I'm gonna go home, and you're gonna you're just gonna go upstairs.
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_10: I pushed the wrong button.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_10: I know.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_09: I didn't want you to let me get away with it.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_09: I pushed the wrong button.
- 1:21:19SPEAKER_10: This is going home.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_10: Doug, hey, get out of here.
