- 2:00I'm going to explain that whole concept to you. Coming up a little bit
- 2:04later, on in the show. Plus is always your calls and text to
- 2:06welcome several things in the news. I want to get to the situation with
- 2:08WVU. Rob alse Up is now out turned into his resignation and I'm going
- 2:15to talk about that and several other things i want to get to and I
- 2:17want to welcome to the show. Now, how did you a mayor candidate
- 2:20for governor? Steve Williams, mister Mery, good morning, Welcome to the
- 2:23show. Thanks for having me on, Dave, really appreciate you giving me
- 2:27some time to talk. Absolutely, first I asked you got to ask the
- 2:30obligatory how was your trick or training? Last night? My wife and take
- 2:38our chairs out to the front, and there wasn't nearly as many people last
- 2:44night as there has been in the last few years. But it's a blast.
- 2:49And particularly what's fun is when the families actually dress up. The parents,
- 2:53oh yeah, dress up and one one dad that came as the Great
- 3:00and it was, it was, it was precious the entire evening. It's
- 3:05so fun. It is it is, And of course it is like I
- 3:07said, in my neighborhood and we'll talk about that a little bit later on.
- 3:09Mayor if I get tied. The numbers were down, and well,
- 3:12you know, they said it was too cold and whatever. I mean,
- 3:15I just don't get that. I mean, it's Halloween, It's supposed to
- 3:16be cold. But that's exactly what I think the reason was was that it's
- 3:23always been recent. In recent years, it's been a bit of a controversy
- 3:28in Huntington and Cabell County. What day is right to be yea and everybody's
- 3:34pointing it on the thirty first. Well we had it on the weekend,
- 3:38and we had it on a Friday night in past years, in the most
- 3:40recent years, and that gone. People were out. Uh, last night
- 3:49was fun. It was indeed, may I want to give you a chance
- 3:52before we get into your campaign. I'll give you a chance to talk about
- 3:53your city for a moment, and I will tell you I know that there
- 3:57is no probably it's up for debate. I there's probably no mayor in the
- 4:01state that loves your city more than Steve Williams does Hontington. Talk about your
- 4:04love for that city. It starts all the way back when I moved to
- 4:11Huntington from Little Athens, West Virginia, when I was sixteen years old.
- 4:15My dad was a coach down at Concord and when he quit coaching went on
- 4:19to VPI to work on as doctorate. He was offered a job at Marshall
- 4:25and we moved to Huntington when I was sixteen, and this town just reached
- 4:30out and just embraced my family, and certainly it helped during the years that
- 4:36I was playing ball football at Marshall. And there has just been a romance
- 4:43that's developed within the city and I'm so proud of how folks are. There's
- 4:48a high level of compassion, there is unbelievable talent, an interest to be
- 4:55able to make the city much better. It was a time that Huntington was
- 5:01always known for fighting among themselves on whatever issues were coming out. Arch Moore
- 5:06used to say, you go to Huntington and you hand out twenty dollars bills
- 5:11on the street corner, and they'll argue about which street corner used to be.
- 5:16And when I became mayor, I was a little bit worried that will
- 5:21will people be able to come together to be able to pursue the vision that
- 5:29I had for a transformation of life within the city. And folks embraced it,
- 5:34and I have to say, I am proud as can be of our
- 5:41community. We have well documented all sorts of problems, but there's a point
- 5:46where you just have to just name it and own it and quit being a
- 5:53victim about it, just work on getting it fixed. And that's the way
- 5:56folks, really, I think Huntington, I think that's the way folks in
- 6:00West Virginia are and uh, it could be our our Appalachian culture, but
- 6:10the reality is, we have big hearts. We believe in holding folks accountable,
- 6:16but we will give a shirt right off our back. And that's why
- 6:21I'm so so proud of Huntington. Frankly, I can't run for mayor again,
- 6:27so I'm thinking this is an opportunity for me to take statewide what we've
- 6:33been working on and uh and allow communities to be able to frame their own
- 6:39future. Talking again with Huntington mayor and candidate for governor Steve Williams here on
- 6:44the Dave Allence Show. Okay, Mary, I'm going to go ahead jump
- 6:46right into the governor's race here for a moment. I'm going to go ahead
- 6:47and state the obvious here. West Virginia is a red state, a hard
- 6:53a hard red state, and it's getting it's getting reader. It seems by
- 6:58by the year that's gonna be difficult to overcome. I'm sure you thought about
- 7:01that. Oh well, I know it's an uphill climb, that it's a
- 7:05clime worth taking because I believe if there's going to be a segment of the
- 7:14population that see that I have a D after my name and they're just not
- 7:16going to look any further. But there's a significant number of independence and I
- 7:27do think that there are a significant number of Republicans who will give me a
- 7:32look see so to speak, and a given an opportunity and they listen to
- 7:39what I'm saying, then we have a good conversation going, and I think
- 7:45I stand better than odds chance. But the reality is is that every race
- 7:56that I have run in, and this will be my eleventh race, every
- 8:01campaign that I've run in, I've run as a D. But I have
- 8:05never ever said to anybody, vote for me because I'm a Democrat, vote
- 8:11for me because of my ideas. Vote for me as to how I'm able
- 8:13to communicate with you and identify ways that we can work together to be able
- 8:18to move move our community forward. And I'm not going to change I'm not
- 8:24going to change tactics now. It's been successful for me. I'm more of
- 8:31a mainstream candidate, and I think the message that I have to deliver,
- 8:39if people will listen, they'll say, well, this guy's worth in taking
- 8:46a look at Attorney General Patrick Morrisy, Secretary of State, Mac Warner,
- 8:50Delegatemore, Capitol out of dealer, Chris Miller. People, I'm sure that
- 8:52you all know very well what makes Steve Williams the better candidate. I've done
- 8:58what my ass my responsibility. The last twelve years as mayor. I've had
- 9:05to deal with paving. I've had to deal with infrastructure. I've had to
- 9:09deal with law enforcement. I've had to deal with the directly actually fighting the
- 9:15opioid epidemic. I've had to negotiate contracts with my employees and look at I've
- 9:22had to fix pensions. I've had financial problems on the verge of bankruptcy and
- 9:28been able to eliminate taxes and increase our revenue. As one person said to
- 9:37me, Steve, you don't have you will not have to have on the
- 9:41job, on the job training. You can step in day one and be
- 9:46sitting in an environment that you've been operating in in twelve years. That's the
- 9:52difference. Man. Frankly, all four of those that you've spoken, who
- 10:00you've mentioned, I've worked with all of them. They're fine, they're fine
- 10:03gentlemen. And the only difference is is that I've done this day in and
- 10:11day out for nearly twelve years. They've done some things, but they have
- 10:15never done all of the breadth of everything that I've had to be involved with.
- 10:20And I think given that posture, I know how to start from the
- 10:28very first day. What are some of the ideas, if elected mayor,
- 10:33that you would like to put into place as governor? What are some of
- 10:35the things that you are willing to step up and fight for and say,
- 10:39hey, this is an idea that I could really get. Mind, it
- 10:41just gives a couple of those. Everything, everything, everything that we must
- 10:48be doing has to be geared towards wealth accumulation, developing prosperity within the state,
- 10:58creating jobs. My background all the way back to the early eighties,
- 11:05I was working in developing economic development programs. Now, the thing is,
- 11:11there's some things that are working extremely well in West Virginia right now. The
- 11:16thing is we got to kick it up several launches. It's not enough to
- 11:22say, well, we're not in the We're not forty eighth, forty ninth,
- 11:28or fiftieth anymore, we're in the top thirties. No, we need
- 11:31to be a top ten percent state. And if we're going to be doing
- 11:35that, we have to be more aggressive than any state around. What I
- 11:39am known for saying is let's set vendors that the rest of the nation will
- 11:43be seeking to follow. So everything is going to be driven towards job development.
- 11:50Well, we have problems within higher education. We have problems within our
- 11:54public education system. The reality is is that recent years in higher education,
- 12:01we've had a situation where it has been the privatization of our public colleges because
- 12:07the way they have been funding their operations has been increasing tuitions, and we've
- 12:15seen the level of participation in the enrollments and dropping in our colleges and universities.
- 12:22We have to address that. But also I think that there are some
- 12:28things that we have to leave for local governments, city and county governments to
- 12:35be able to have a robust conversation as to what works in their area.
- 12:39Everything doesn't have to be controlled by the legislature. When I was in the
- 12:45legislature, there was a tendency to try to say, well, we'll do
- 12:48things. And then now that the Republicans have come in and have taken over
- 12:52the first time in eighty years, well they fell had fallen into the same
- 12:56trap where now they're making all of the decisions. Frankly, we have brilliant
- 13:01people in our communities. We have talent hiding and plain sight, and we
- 13:07need to encourage communities to be able to utilize those resources that we have.
- 13:15And lastly, we have more resources than we have ever had in the history
- 13:20of the state to be able to build infrastructure throughout the state. It is
- 13:26an absolute crime that we have areas of the state that don't even have running
- 13:30water. I mean, my goodness, that's those are through world countries and
- 13:35we here in the wealthiest nation in the world and we have areas that don't
- 13:41have running water. We have to fix things like that. We have to
- 13:45have broadband all across the state, and we have to have roads that are
- 13:50actually opening up areas of the state. We've done that quite well in some
- 13:54areas that there are areas down in southwestern Virginia that don't have ready access in
- 14:03and out. So all of these things point to one thing, creating jobs.
- 14:09We create jobs. A job that's created starts to solve an awful lot
- 14:15of problems that we have, and everything, everything that we do has got
- 14:18to be in that direction. And lastly, and just as importantly, we
- 14:24need to get out of the business of running people's lives. There's some things
- 14:28that is not the bitten, not absolutely not business of the legislature to come
- 14:37in and make decisions as to who I'm going to love, how I'm going
- 14:41to handle my health care, and how I'm going to be able to make
- 14:46decisions for my family. We are known in this state mountaineers are always free.
- 14:52Well, then we need to let let folks be able to make their
- 14:54own decisions for their own lives. Mayor, I got one final thing for
- 14:58you before I you go. All politics now seems to be national. If
- 15:03you're a Republican, you're tied to Donald Trump. If you're a Democrat,
- 15:07you find yourself answering. I know. I have the state Democratic Party chair,
- 15:09Mike Pushkin on the show, and it's constantly he's asked having to ask
- 15:13answer questions about about Joe Biden or AOC or whatever. What is your plan
- 15:20to if you are going to do this when you're out on the trail,
- 15:24you're at a forum or whatever, to say, hey, I'm my own
- 15:28guy. I'm not part of that, or are you part of that?
- 15:31The National Democratic Party has failed with Virginia. I mean that's why. I
- 15:35mean, frankly, I believe in the market, and I think markets are
- 15:39quite efficient in that regard. That's why we see that West Virginia has become
- 15:46as red as it has because people look and they are wondering, well,
- 15:50what are Democrats doing doing for us? Reality is, we do have resources
- 15:56now to be able to fix things. But the fact of the matter is
- 16:02there are some there's some folks in the Democratic Party that would never ever want
- 16:07to have lunch with me and uh and for that matter, if they were,
- 16:12they would expect me to pay for it. And and that's just not
- 16:17who I am. I am a mainstream Democrat. I'd like to say that
- 16:22I am a West Virginia Democrat, more of a Kennedy Democrat and John Kennedy
- 16:27Democrat, not Ted Kennedy Democrat. Reality is, I think where we find
- 16:34ourselves is that after a while, people will start to realize. You know
- 16:42this fellaw stands on his own. I've had some people say, well,
- 16:48as we said, am I a Kennedy Democrat? I'm a Mansion Democrats?
- 16:52And actually I'm a Steve Williams Democrat. What you see is what you get,
- 16:57good, good place to leave it. Mayor and candidate for Governor,
- 17:00Steve Williams. I appreciate you taking time at your schedule to be here.
- 17:04We'll be talking again soon. Thanks a lot, Merek, Thanks a lot.

- 20:37now, I want to talk to our good friend, Ashley, offered Glance
- 20:38from the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. Good morning, miss offered Glance.
- 20:44How are you, good morning, my friend Dave. How you doing?
- 20:45I am doing fine. You get an event going on there tomorrow at Area
- 20:49thirty four. You're going to be teaming up with the Small Business Administration for
- 20:52an event talk about them. Yeah, absolutely, So tomorrow we're hosting an
- 20:57event called show Me the Money, and it's in partnership with the West Virginia
- 21:02Small Business Development Center. And then we're also going to have some Q and
- 21:04A by Carol Jackson, who is a loan officer of the first Micro Loan
- 21:08of West Virginia. And so tomorrow what we're going to be doing is hosting
- 21:12a quick seminar on how it's it's geared at small business owners anybody that already
- 21:18owns a business or wants to start a small business, and we're going to
- 21:22be talking about building a business plan. We're also going to be talking about
- 21:26pre startup, pre planning, business financing, and literally and anything that you
- 21:32any questions that you really have about starting a business here in West Virginia and
- 21:36specifically in Putnam County. We're going to be on hand and able to answer
- 21:38those questions and hope that we can help some small businesses. And according to
- 21:42what I saw on social media, my favorite phrase in English language, breakfast
- 21:47is provided. That is correct, Breakfast is provided. So we'll we'll have
- 21:52a light breakfast there and then we'll have the seminar and then again Carol Jackson
- 21:57from the first micro Loan will be there for Q and A. And you
- 22:00know, really we just want to make sure that people have all the information
- 22:03they need when they're looking. You know, they may have an idea for
- 22:07a new business, but don't know what's next, so you know, the
- 22:10first thing that we can do is help them with a business plan or look
- 22:14for access to funding or just really any questions that they may have. And
- 22:18if if we don't answer the questions tomorrow, then we can answer them later.
- 22:22We might need to make some other connections to some other organizations that help
- 22:26small businesses in addition to us and the SBDC. Let's talk about the role.
- 22:30You're somebody that's very involved in not only the Putnam Chambers executive director,
- 22:33but also involved with the business on a state wide level. How important are
- 22:37small businesses in your opinion, to not only Putnham County, but the state
- 22:41of West Virginia and the entire country for that matter. Oh, absolutely small
- 22:44businesses. They make up a majority of the businesses in Punham County. And
- 22:48you know, to have, you know, a proper ecosystem in in your
- 22:52community, you need to have both small businesses and large businesses. And that's
- 22:56what makes the community great to live in. And so in Putnham County we're
- 23:00fortunate to have, you know, our small businesses that make up the majority,
- 23:03and then are great support by our larger more national and national and global
- 23:07businesses as well. And for those who don't know, Area thirty four is
- 23:11just off the Tays Valley exit if you're coming from Charleston, it's just you
- 23:15take a rite next to the x SIM of the RBS directly across the Liberty
- 23:18Square. That's the home to not only the Chamber, but also the Putnam
- 23:22County Convention Visitors Bureau, the best coffee shop in the area in my opinion.
- 23:26Connie and the folks with Putnam Provisions Solid Waste authorities in areas of development
- 23:30authority. So it's kind of a one stop shop for Putnam County and I
- 23:33will give you an opportunity to sell that a little bit, a bit of
- 23:37a free commercial because you got meeting spaces and work pods available. To talk
- 23:41about that absolutely, so we we had Area thirty four really pride ourselves on
- 23:45being a hub for our community no matter what your needs are. So whether
- 23:48it's a place to just come and meet a friend for coffee or to have
- 23:52a business business meeting. We have a coffee shop that's open to the public.
- 23:56Putnam provisions from every day and so any that can come on in and
- 24:00grab a cup of coffee a locally roasted coffee as well. And then we
- 24:04have conference rooms, we have meeting spaces, and we also run a coworking
- 24:08space. So if you are looking for flexible or temporary space for your business,
- 24:14you can get started at Area thirty four and have access to all the
- 24:18amenities of the building. And then we also have Area thirty four Mobile,
- 24:22so if you need to interface with your clients on the go, give us
- 24:26a call to talk about Area thirty four Mobile. It is the area's only
- 24:29or the state's only mobile coworking space. And also I understand that we yet
- 24:36another new business coming into Putnam County. Fact, it's already there. It's
- 24:38called Walked. It's a mid Valley square. Had lunch there a couple of
- 24:41weeks ago, very delicious lunch. It's across from the reservoir there in Hurricane.
- 24:48As I said, it's been open for at least a couple of weeks.
- 24:49There's going to be a riven cutting hell there tomorrow at eleven o'clock.
- 24:52Love seeing those new businesses come into the area. Ashley, Oh, absolutely,
- 24:56we really enjoy. That's one of the most favorite parts of the job,
- 25:00that's cutting those cutting those ribbons with the big scissors. And so tomorrow
- 25:04we're going to be celebrating Walked. And we've been very very fortunate here in
- 25:11Pundam County too. You know, there has been very few weeks that have
- 25:17gone by that we haven't celebrated a new business in Pundam County. And so
- 25:21I hope that everyone will join us in celebrating walk to tomorrow. And we've
- 25:23got a few more schedules for the rest of the year, and you know,
- 25:26it's really important as we get into the holiday season and you're thinking about
- 25:30gifts buying, you know, to make sure to show some love to some
- 25:34of our small and locally owned businesses when you're thinking about gifts through your loved
- 25:40ones this holiday season. And I also understand that downtown Hurricane is going to
- 25:44be getting a Italian slash steakhouse, so we're looking forward to I'm always looking
- 25:49forward to that. I'm always looking forward to that. Before we let you
- 25:52go, New Core, everybody's talking about New Core coming to Mason County and
- 25:56and what it's already meant. And I know in Putnam County we've already we've
- 26:02already seen several of their their feet print for lack of a better term,
- 26:07that they've had in Putnam County talk about that. Yeah, the state of
- 26:10West Virginia is so fortunate to have to have Newcore join us here in our
- 26:15state. And I think that all that the state is going to benefit from
- 26:18them, and as well as you know, the county surrounding Mason County,
- 26:23and so you know, we're so fortunate. They're such a wonderful company and
- 26:27they go above and beyond to support their community, and so you know,
- 26:30in Putnam County, we are seeing a lot of new residents due to being
- 26:37relocating from other mills, and so we're always happy to meet our new families
- 26:41that join us in Putnam County and figure out how we can make Putnam County
- 26:45still like their new home. All right, let's before let you go,
- 26:48let's get back to the event tomorrow. And I errored earlier when I said
- 26:52Small Business Administration, I meant to say the SBDC, But they kind of
- 26:55work hand in hand. So talk about the event tomorrow at Area thirty four.
- 26:59Yeah, So tomorrow we've got to show me the money, and it
- 27:00is an information session for small business owners. We are going to be learning
- 27:04about business plans, we're going to be learning about small business financing, and
- 27:11we're also going to be able to answer any questions that you have about opening
- 27:15a new small business in in West Virginia or in Putnam County specifically. It's
- 27:18from eight It starts at eight thirty am. Breakfast is provided, and we're
- 27:22also going to have a Q and A that will be led by Carol Jackson
- 27:26from the first Micro Loan of West Virginia. So I hope people will join
- 27:30us and and we'll be able to answer some questions and get some new business
- 27:33appea and information I presume is available on the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce websites
- 27:37and social media. All right, Ashleys, all right, Ashley, we
- 27:41will talk soon and I'll see you there for that definitely for that ribbon cutting
- 27:45tomorrow, So look for you tomorrow. All right. Thanks for having me
- 27:48tell my friends. I didn't get to tell my friend Steve, but may
- 27:52Or Williams actually has a long history and it is a good friend of Putnam

- 28:42actually had already announced it, but he added I guess that in addition to
- 28:45mayor of Montgomery, he was also going to be running for the West Virginia
- 28:49House of Delegates, and so I kind of thought this was right, but
- 28:55I didn't know for sure. I wanted to verify this with mister Ingram and
- 29:00and the voter registration folks. Somebody had texted the show yesterday and ask what
- 29:03his party was. Greg Ingram is indeed a Republican, and so he's going
- 29:08to be running for Western Indian House of Delegates. I think the district was
- 29:12fifty two. I think that's what it is, and he's based on Montgomery.
- 29:15But again, he was on the show on Monday, on the Mayor
- 29:18of Monday segment talking about the great things going on in Montgomery, and then
- 29:21somebody he announced a couple of weeks ago that he'd signed his papers pre candidacy
- 29:26papers if you will to run for the House of Delegates. And somebody texted

- 32:46meeting sponsored by the City of Charleston. In the final one tonight at six
- 32:50o'clock at the Roosevelt Neighborhood Center, which is at five oh two Roughner Avenue.
- 32:53It's a chance for you to talk to representatives from the Mayor's office,
- 32:58police street departments. They're all going to be there as they have been,
- 33:02and these meetings have been held all of the city. This is the final
- 33:05one that is scheduled, and the previous ones, from what I understand,
- 33:08have been very well attended and this one should be too. Again. It
- 33:10starts at six tonight at the Roosevelt Neighborhood Center, five o two Roughner Avenue
- 33:15in Charleston, and they call these things here to serve meetings, reps from
- 33:20the Mayor's office, police, city fire, Everybody's going to be on hand.
- 33:22So if you got questions, you don't want to go to a city

- 33:30some some order and decorum there, but you can go talk to them.
- 33:35So get out there. And these things have been filled with complaints, with
- 33:38praise, a little bit of everything. That's the whole idea again. It

- 35:02to Rob who's celebrated number five O Today's or morning Guy on her sister station
- 35:07ninety six to one KWS. All right, I me knock out, and
- 35:10I got a bunch of texts to get to. Going back to Steve Williams,
- 35:14text says, wait, so he's a Democrat and his dad was at
- 35:16Virginia Tech. Not looking good for Williams, says a text. A little
- 35:21little tongue in cheek there. Text says Mayor Steve Williams is undoubtedly the best
- 35:29candidate for governor. It's just a shame that West Virginia voters had blinders on
- 35:32and can only see party affiliation and will waste Mayor Williams potential for barely mediocre
- 35:38candidates. According to a Texter, you know, and if you heard the
- 35:43show on Monday, I guess it was when I gave my my advice,
- 35:46and I didn't get into whether you know Mayor Williams actually heard my advice or
- 35:50not on how he could No, I'm not saying when Okay, I'm saying
- 35:54I kind of gave some advice on Monday show on ways forward, if you
- 36:00will, for Steve Williams in ways he could do a little better in his
- 36:06race for governor. Of course, one of those that I mentioned earlier,
- 36:09Warner Capitol, Morrissey or Miller is going to emerge, and of course you
- 36:15have another cannibrashity used. One of those is going to emerge to take on
- 36:19Steve Williams for the governorship next year. And I kind of give some advice
- 36:22on Monday Show in the ways I think he could move forward. And if
- 36:25you heard, if you go back, and if you go back and listen
- 36:29to the show once it's posted online. He kind of answered that because I
- 36:32had to ask the question, and that is all politics is national. As
- 36:38you've heard me say time and time again, I changed the county every time.
- 36:42For the example, if you're running for Wetzel County Assessor, somebody's going
- 36:45to ask you, how do you feel about Joe Biden and how do you
- 36:49feel about Donald Trump? Because that's just kind of where it's sad, but
- 36:52that's just kind of where we are. And he said Steve Williams earlier in
- 36:59the show, he said some things that I think we're very good coming out
- 37:04of him, and that is saying no basically as he said to the National
- 37:08Democratic Party, he said, I am my own guy, and if he
- 37:14holds to that, I think it will bode well for him in the race.
- 37:16Now, is it going to be enough to propel him to the governorship
- 37:21when he does have that D after his name. And that's another thing too
- 37:23about Steve Williams that I kind of like and talking to him on the interview
- 37:28this morning, and that was he said, I am what I am.
- 37:30He said, I'm a West Virginia Democrat. And the problem is is that
- 37:35the classic West Virginia Democrat and the National Democrat or what is the National Democrat
- 37:40now, or at least the image thereof, aren't the same anymore. And
- 37:46I give I mean, so far one interview, he's only done one interview
- 37:51with me, and I'm sure he'll do he's already done. We'll do other
- 37:53interviews with other people, but it's going to be, as the old timers
- 37:59would say, a tough row to hoe in West Virginia. But if he
- 38:01keeps on like he did on the interview this morning, I think he did
- 38:05a good job. And I think that's the thing that he probably needs to
- 38:07continue to say, Dave, allany show is brought to you and partly about
- 38:10husbands. Pizza This month that your favorite Hustand's get a large eighteen inch pepperoni
- 38:14pizza and ten cheese sticks only twenty one ninety nine. Visit Hustands Pizza dot
- 38:17com for the tales. More news out of Morgantown this morning. Mike Nolton
- 38:22with the story post at wv Metronews dot com. Wvu's vice President for Strategic
- 38:27Initiatives, Rob Alsop, is leaving now. He'd been at that job for
- 38:30six years. He will work the job as vice president until November eighteenth,
- 38:37and then he'll transition to a special advisor to WVU President Gordon Gee through the
- 38:42end of January. My guess is that's probably a contract, a contractual thing.
- 38:45He Alsop has been one of the major players in all this shuffling going
- 38:52on up there. The Board of Governors back in September gave the final approval
- 38:57to eliminate twenty eight majors and to cut one undred and forty three faculty positions
- 39:01at West Virginia University. Now, in his time at WVU, he did
- 39:07a variety of things. He served as interim athletic director immediately aughter Shane Lyons
- 39:15left, and outside of WVU, he was also a big part of the
- 39:19remember this, He was a big part of the Gubernatoil administrations, then Governor
- 39:23Joe Manchin and then Governor Earl Ray Tomlin, and he actually served as chief
- 39:28of staff for Senator cart Goodwin, who took that job following the death of
- 39:32Senator Robert Byrd. So there's no word yet on a replacement moving forward for
- 39:38rob Alsolf. I don't know exactly how that's I don't know exactly how that's
- 39:43going to look, to be honest with you, Texas, So your former
- 39:46boss is getting glad hands from crazy freak trader insurrectionists and Christian denominationist Mike Flynn.
- 39:55What kind of a thing to be proud of? What a silly boy
- 40:00kids talking about? Secretary of State Make Warner and Canada for governor. It
- 40:04feels like he's playing out of his league and getting in over his head with
- 40:07America hating criminals. According to a texture, Well, you know, I
- 40:14I've I've put it out there several times. I did work for the Western
- 40:16Uion Secretary of State's office, and I worked from for Mac Warners specifically for
- 40:21four years, and I'd considered him act to be a very close personal friend.
- 40:25He was my boss and he's not. Now he's not my friend,
- 40:30but he's but he's not my boss anymore, is what I'm trying to say,
- 40:32and you know, you don't always agree with your boss. If you're
- 40:37listened to me right now, uh, and you're at work or whatever you
- 40:39may, you may say my boss doesn't know what he's talking about. I'm
- 40:43not saying that about Mac Warner. I'm just saying that you don't always agree
- 40:46with your boss to what your friends do. So we'll just we'll kind of
- 40:50leave it at that. I mean, there's nothing nothing more I can I
- 40:52can say, but he's doing what he thinks he needs to do in order
- 40:57to move forward in the race for governor. That's what he feels he needs
- 40:59to do, so, you know, more power to it. Tex says,
- 41:02is there any info out there about Sergio's. Sergio's is the new restaurant
- 41:07that's going to be coming a downtown Hurricane, the formerly former Conley's Irish publication.
- 41:12I know. The only thing I know about it is that obviously it's
- 41:16owned by someone named Sergio, and this is a gentleman that has several other
- 41:20businesses in the area, including the Guadalajara I think in Nitra of eating there,
- 41:23it's pretty good. I'm looking forward to it. I'm always looking forward
- 41:28to food, though, so that's just me. No, I don't have
- 41:30any other information other than I think they were going to try to be open
- 41:34by some time over the next couple of weeks, I think. But I
- 41:36haven't been in downtown Hurricane in a few days. I live kind of on

- 41:42I haven't checked out. But I'll be there all right, And I will
- 41:45definitely when you had me at steak and pasta, so I will definitely be

- 42:05Erica Moore works actually for the city of Spencer and so she has been named
- 42:09to that position by the governor. She will take over for Riley Keaton,

- 47:01along with several others, to serve as a judge for Saturday's mac and
- 47:07Cheese cookoff to benefit the Childhood Language Centera. It starts at eleven o'clock Saturday
- 47:15morning at Capital Market. And I was looking at the list of the entrance
- 47:20and myself and the other judges have our work cut out for US. I
- 47:25have a complete list posted at Dave Island Radio and Facebook and the Dave Island
- 47:30Show on X. Artists formally known as Twitter, West Virginia Corner Kitchen,
- 47:36Breathe, Wine and Culture Company, Capital Insurance, cam Vance, State Farm,
- 47:40Chick fil A, Bricks and Barrel, Lobster Trapping, The Pitch Children's
- 47:45Home Society, Embassy Suites, Dutch Miller, Subaru, the Regatta and Regatta,
- 47:51Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling, and Mac and Cheese. I mean,
- 47:55what's not the love there? Restaurant, Brusi, Shuckers, be Stro just
- 48:00a name a few, and a complete list of all of the sponsors are
- 48:04available on my social media. So it should be fun. And somehow Joe
- 48:08Stevens with the folks in Nitro is trying to get me involved somehow. Saturday
- 48:16afternoon they have an event in Nitro and it's their Wagging Tails and Nitro Ales
- 48:23event. It's a beer fest and a chili cookoff and that runs from eleven
- 48:30until four on Saturday at the Living Memorial Park in Nitro. Proceeds there will
- 48:36benefit Hospice Care and various other local animal charities. So if I can make
- 48:40both and they've got me at the mac and Cheese deal at the Capital Market
- 48:45starting an eleven Saturday morning and if I can somehow then get to Nitro for
- 48:51Wagging Whales and Nitro Ales this beer fest and chili cookoff my Saturday night which
- 48:58I had intended on back and watching the Marshall Appellitian State game. If anybody
- 49:05would like to get me a sponsorship to the show from Pepto Bismol, that
- 49:07might be appreciated. After mac and cheese during the day and chili in the
- 49:12late afternoon and speaking to Joe Stevens, our good friend from the Nitro CVB.
- 49:16He will be on the show tomorrow to talk about that particular event.
- 49:21Also looking to head to tomorrows show. Ryan Weld, state Senator, who
- 49:23is a candidate for Attorney General, is going to be on the show tomorrow.
- 49:28If you go back, and we always encourage if you miss any part
- 49:30of the show, you can go back and listen to them on your schedule
- 49:32on demand wchsnetwork dot com or sign up for the podcast version wherever you get
- 49:37your favorite podcasts, and that way it's just it's delivered to you. And
- 49:40we also repost the shows on social media on Facebook, and on AXI artists
- 49:45only known as Twitter as well. But if you go back and you listen
- 49:49to Monday show, I had attorney general candidate also State Senator Mike Stewart on
- 49:52the show, and mister Stewart was you know a little I'm dismissive if you
- 50:00will, toward Ryan Weld. He said, basically, it is a three
- 50:05person race for attorney general. I'm sorry, he said, a two person
- 50:08race for attorney general between himself, speaking of Mike Stewart and current State Auditor
- 50:15J. B. McCuskey. He called it a two person race. Well,
- 50:16there is another person in it, and as someone who is closely affiliated
- 50:22with the Ryan Weld campaign texted and told me, he said, well,
- 50:25if you want to look at it like this, the race for attorney general
- 50:29right now is a two person race, but it's between McCuskey and Ryan Weld
- 50:34if you base it just on the money that's been raised. So I'm not
- 50:37getting now all that. I'm just saying. I had Stewart on the show
- 50:40and the folks with Ryan Well to talk to them. They asked to come
- 50:43on the show on Thursday. So I'm looking forward to having Ryan Weld State
- 50:47Senator and candidate for Attorney General on the show tomorrow, and I would presume
- 50:53that probably one day next week I'll have JB. McCuskey on the show.
- 50:57Is well, welcome to campaign twenty twenty four. As it is in twenty
- 51:00twenty three, it's still there. I hope your tricker treating went well last
- 51:07night. We had maybe about one hundred or so at our at our place
- 51:09last night, not a lot considering the number of kids that live nearby.
- 51:15I guess, as Mayor Williams and I were talking about earlier, I guess
- 51:17it was just too cold. And I was talking like came in the buildings
- 51:21when he was talking to Steve Animal, our morning guy on the on the
- 51:24Mountain, our classic rock station, And of course Steve's a Michigan guy,
- 51:29so his definition of cold might be a little bit different. But remember when
- 51:31trick or treating a couple of years ago was postponed because of rain I mean,
- 51:37you know you you have got to be kidding me, And what are
- 51:40what message are we sending to kids when we tell them you can't go out
- 51:45because it's cold and because it's windy, because it's rainy. It's Halloween there's
- 51:52a reason why Halloween is held in October and not in July. It's supposed
- 51:57to be cold, nasty frost, that's what it's supposed to be. And
- 52:00it was not windy irany last night. It was just a little bit cold.
- 52:05But anyway, old man, old man ran over all. Right,
- 52:08Uh, gotta go again. I will not be on the show on Friday.
- 52:13I will be here tomorrow though. Again. Attorney General candidate and Saint
- 52:15Senator Ryan Welds on the show tomorrow, plus Joe Stevens talking about this big
- 52:19chili event that they have going on in Nitro that is coming up on Saturday
- 52:23afternoon. Hoppies coming up with the news and or with talk line. I
- 52:28should say here and just a bit following the news. You can follow the
- 52:30news of the day WCCHS Network dot com and wv Metro News dot com.
