- 1:49It is a sensational documentary. Very happy to have her on.
- 1:53As we were reached. Well, Nathan reached out to her
- 1:57and Jabba has a very good connection with her.
- 2:00Very happy to have her on. We are now talking to executive
- 2:02producer of It Ain't Over, the one and only, the granddaughter
- 2:07of the late, great Yogi Berra, Lindsay.
- 2:12Lindsay, what's up? Not much.
- 2:13Thanks for having. Me, I got a chance to watch the
- 2:16the documentary when it was in the movie theaters.
- 2:18It was in the movies for a little while and it was
- 2:20sensational. I was a big Yogi Berra fan
- 2:24growing up. I mean, obviously I wasn't
- 2:26alive, but my grandfather used to tell me stories about Yogi,
- 2:28Joe DiMaggio, obviously Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth.
- 2:34So I got a chance to know. But Yogi Berra was the most
- 2:37successful New York Yankee because he won more rings than
- 2:40any Yankee in history. Tell us a little bit about being
- 2:44the granddaughter of one of the greatest baseball players to
- 2:47ever play the game. First of all, it's very cool
- 2:49that you got to see the movie in the theater because it was a
- 2:51very different experience on the big screen than, you know, we
- 2:54all love sitting on the couch and Netflix and whatever, but it
- 2:57was really cool. I didn't watch it.
- 2:58I just want to let you know something I didn't see see it in
- 3:00a movie theater. I got a chance to see it at the
- 3:03Patchogue's theater. So the the library actually put
- 3:07it up on a big screen right behind the library.
- 3:10So they did it on a big screen and, and that was the first time
- 3:14I got a chance to watch it in the back of the library in
- 3:16Patchogue, NY. So it was a big screen outside.
- 3:19So look, I'm sorry, yes. Your question people ask me a
- 3:25lot about what it was like to be the granddaughter of Yogi Berra
- 3:27when I was a kid. I had no idea that grandpa was
- 3:29anything special, right? He was like everybody else's
- 3:32grandpa. You know, I had, I had friends
- 3:34whose grandfathers were teachers and accountants and bus drivers
- 3:38and restaurant owners. And I thought grandpa's job, he
- 3:40was a baseball coach. And it really wasn't any
- 3:42different than any of those other things.
- 3:44And, you know, by the time I got old enough to understand that
- 3:48Grandpa Yogi and Yogi Berra were the the same guy, he'd already
- 3:52been Grandpa Yogi for so long that the Yogi Berra thing kind
- 3:55of didn't really resonate. And even now, when I think about
- 3:58Yogi Berra, the 10 World Series rings and 18 All Star Games and
- 4:02three MVPS and all the records, he's sometimes in my head not
- 4:07the same guy as the Grandpa Yogi who burned the hot dogs at the
- 4:09family barbecues. But even though I intellectually
- 4:12know that he is, he was a great, he was a great grandfather.
- 4:16He was obviously a great human being.
- 4:17The world got to see that. And I was very lucky to have him
- 4:19until I was 39 years old. Wow.
- 4:21A lot of a lot of people don't get their grandparents.
- 4:24So that was a real gift. Lindsay, it's well, first of
- 4:28all, good to see you. Hello Jabba, how are you?
- 4:31Good Hon, how are you? I'm good.
- 4:32I can't believe your kid is like a full-fledged adult.
- 4:35I don't like it. I literally just sent me a
- 4:37picture. He just got a big package of a
- 4:39bunch of steaks and everything. So he's now now him and his
- 4:42roommates. He got his own house now.
- 4:44So it's, you know, now they're fighting all over that.
- 4:46I had the pleasure. You obviously had a lot more
- 4:48years with him and I got to know him.
- 4:50And one of my favorite possessions is obviously a sign
- 4:54ball by him. But just I think more so than
- 4:56anything, a lot of people got to see the personality more so than
- 5:01the baseball player because a lot of us weren't around the
- 5:04stories that you just sit and listen.
- 5:07And I think I was late a couple times because he just kept
- 5:09telling stories and I was like, I think I got to go ready or
- 5:12something. I don't know what's going on.
- 5:14Is there one story that stands out?
- 5:16And I'm not even talking baseball or just something that
- 5:18burn hot dog made me think of this because I was going a
- 5:20different direction, but that just how real he was because we
- 5:25all saw him, you know, as the yogiisms and and all this stuff
- 5:29that he and it was just him like he never, it wasn't like he
- 5:32tried to do this. That was just the way it came
- 5:35off. And you're like, did he just say
- 5:36that? And then he just keep walking
- 5:38like they didn't miss a beat or anything.
- 5:40Is it, is there one that, that you it's just a fond memory
- 5:43that, that you you have that that sticks out to you.
- 5:46For the first part of what you said, like, I do agree
- 5:49wholeheartedly that grandpa's personality kind of overtook his
- 5:53status in people's minds as a baseball player.
- 5:56There's a big recency bias there.
- 5:57Most people alive today didn't get to see him play.
- 6:00And I get into, you know, Twitter fights all the time,
- 6:03people saying Johnny Bench was better.
- 6:05And it's definitely people who didn't see him play.
- 6:07If you want to break down the numbers, my grandpa can take on
- 6:09Johnny Bench any day of the week.
- 6:11And it just matters. Really.
- 6:12Rich guy you liked better the, the yogiisms, they just kind of
- 6:16came out of his mouth. It was the way he saw the world.
- 6:19Everything was very black and white, right or wrong.
- 6:22He had the most forthright moral compass in the world.
- 6:25He was very, just very much able to cut through all the crap and,
- 6:29and you know, get to the, the root of a problem or the, the,
- 6:33the point of what was actually happening.
- 6:36Somebody posted something on Twitter the other day about
- 6:39Derek Jeter in a slump. And grandpa said, I know what
- 6:41your problem is. You need to swing at strikes.
- 6:43And Jeter talks about it. I've heard him tell the story
- 6:45many times. And like, it's, yeah, you should
- 6:47be swinging at strikes. Like, it's so painfully obvious
- 6:50that you don't really think about it all the time.
- 6:52You're thinking about all these other external things that might
- 6:54be going on. But just like the stories about,
- 6:57like, who he is. You know, we, I live in
- 7:00Montclair, which is where he lived for most of his life after
- 7:04coming here from Saint Louis. They moved to my grandparents
- 7:06moved here in 1959 and there's still a lot of people that
- 7:08encountered him here. And the stories that you get
- 7:11from folks are they're always the same, whether they met him
- 7:14at the deli or they met him at church or they saw him like, you
- 7:17know, at a parking lot somewhere or at a a kids baseball game.
- 7:22Might one of my cousins or mine or my brothers or at the ice
- 7:25rink when I was playing hockey. He he, they always tell the
- 7:28stories about How I Met your grandfather this one time and we
- 7:31had a really nice conversation and he gave me so much of his
- 7:34time and I felt like I was the only person there.
- 7:37He, he, he never blew anybody off.
- 7:38He treated everybody how he would have wanted to be treated.
- 7:43And all these people come up and tell me like, I loved your
- 7:45grandfather. And they actually mean it in the
- 7:47same sense of the word as I mean it when I say I love my
- 7:50grandfather. And that's a totally incredible
- 7:52thing. Regardless of how good of a
- 7:54baseball player he was or not, he just was able to kind of
- 7:57connect with people on a really human level, no matter who they
- 8:00were. So obviously you're the board
- 8:02member with the museum with Yogi Berra.
- 8:04And I was fascinated with baseball history a lot more than
- 8:06a lot of the other sports too. Like what has been the evolution
- 8:09of the stuff that he's told you and the stuff that you've also
- 8:12dealt with, like working in the museum from player to obviously
- 8:15manager later in his career and then even after he retired from
- 8:18from the game altogether and the impact that he had.
- 8:21So the museum has been around for like 20, Oh my God, 27 years
- 8:24now, maybe 327th year. And when it first opened, the
- 8:29idea was not my grandfather's. My grandfather never would have
- 8:32said, hey, we need a museum dedicated to me.
- 8:35That kind of guy, absolutely. He thought it was a preposterous
- 8:38idea. But when they brought it to him
- 8:41and they tagged on the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center
- 8:44part of it, the Learning Center part was what really got him
- 8:47going. My grandfather quit school in
- 8:48the eighth grade and he was always very self-conscious about
- 8:52the fact that he didn't have a high school degree when he got
- 8:55to the Yankees. As soon as he had enough money
- 8:56to do it, he endowed a scholarship fund at Columbia
- 8:59University that still exists today.
- 9:02We have the, the, the crux of what we do at the museum is
- 9:04education programs. And we sure like we talk about
- 9:08all the great things that my grandfather did on the baseball
- 9:10field. You can see all 27 Yankees World
- 9:12Series rings in the museum, all of his grandpa's MVP plaques.
- 9:16We've got bronze gloves and all kinds of stuff.
- 9:18But the point of it is that we kind of carry his values forward
- 9:23of, of treating people with decency and respect and being
- 9:26the best that you can be, maybe overcoming adversity.
- 9:30Grandpa was told that he was, you know, too short, too squat,
- 9:35looked like a gorilla, looked like an ape, looked like a fire
- 9:38hydrant, look like a fat girl running in A2 tight skirt.
- 9:41I don't even know. Somebody wrote that in the Daily
- 9:43News that he was too ugly to be a Yankee.
- 9:46I don't even know what that means.
- 9:47Have you seen some of the Yankees over the years?
- 9:50Anyway, so you if a kid comes in and he's got no idea really
- 9:56about baseball and is not a baseball fan, you know, kids can
- 9:59identify with being a first generation immigrant, with being
- 10:02a veteran. My grandfather served his
- 10:04country, was a machine gunner at the D-Day invasion.
- 10:06They can identify with being underestimated or told they
- 10:08can't do something. And that's really what we do at
- 10:12the museum. And through grandpa's career,
- 10:14all the stages that you just mentioned, you know, a player, a
- 10:17manager, and then his post career, you know, it was really
- 10:20how he kind of carried himself that that made him the person
- 10:23that he was. They just put in the chat who
- 10:26was the ugliest looking teammate you had, Jeff.
- 10:32Hey man, what? What happens when the clubhouse
- 10:34stays in the clubhouse? I can't.
- 10:35I can't be. I was trying.
- 10:36To keep it in the private chat. John, I've got it.
- 10:38I'll tell you who the ugliest teammate he's ever played with,
- 10:41Kevin Euclis there. Was a story ages ago in the I
- 10:48can't even believe I was saying this, but in in Men's Journal
- 10:50years ago, the writer Matt Taibbi did a story called The
- 10:54Upside of Ugly and it was about the benefit of having an ugly
- 10:57guy in your line up. And I remember this, this like,
- 11:01you know, because Grandpa Yogi was put forward as one of these,
- 11:05you know, ugly people. There was a line that I still
- 11:08remember. I can try to it was said
- 11:09something like, well, Mark Teixeira has a swing so
- 11:12beautiful you want to paint it. Kevin Youklas battling a middle
- 11:15reliever to a nine pitch walk. Looks like a rhinoceros trying
- 11:19to fuck a washing machine. I.
- 11:22Remember that? I remember reading it and
- 11:24reading it out loud to my colleagues at ESPN Magazine at
- 11:27the time. It's looking like, well, I
- 11:30wouldn't want I I want Kevin, you listen to light up.
- 11:32Why not? That sounds about right.
- 11:37We are talking to executive producer of It Ain't Over,
- 11:41Lindsay Berra, by the way, Yogi Berra's granddaughter, also the
- 11:44board of member at Yogi Berra Museum and the content creator
- 11:48at Team Mustard. By the way, you know Yogi, I,
- 11:51I've never met Yogi. I've heard a lot of stories
- 11:54about him. I've met Don Mattingly over the
- 11:56years. I've met Mickey Mantle when I
- 11:58was a kid. But I never got a chance to meet
- 12:00Yogi Berra and Yogi Berra with all the achievements.
- 12:03And let me let me read some of the achievements.
- 12:05Yogi Berra had 18 All Stars, 13 World Series championships,
- 12:10three time American League and VP.
- 12:14He's in Monument Park and he's one of the best Major League
- 12:18players at his position. Some people say the best catcher
- 12:22of all time. When you look at your
- 12:24grandfather and all his achievements, what is the
- 12:27achievement that sticks out the most out of all the
- 12:29achievements? He would tell you it was Don
- 12:33Larson's perfect game in the 1956 World Series.
- 12:38He never would talk to you about what he did.
- 12:41Well, he would always kind of push it off onto his teammates.
- 12:44Oh, this. Remember that game when Mickey
- 12:45hit three home runs? Or the game, You know, Donnie's
- 12:48perfect game. He was always trying to push it
- 12:50off to everybody else. My favorite of grandpa's stats.
- 12:54He won his first MVP in 19, 51, right, 51.
- 13:00But I think 1950 was his best season. 656 plate appearances,
- 13:06597 at bats, 28 home runs, 124 RBIs.
- 13:10He hit 322 and struck out 12 times in the entire season.
- 13:15I mean, that is like it's mind blowing physical challenge to
- 13:19anybody to try to make that happen, even in your Wiffle Ball
- 13:21league, because it ain't happening.
- 13:23He was just so able to put a. Catcher.
- 13:25A catcher too. Just think about it guys.
- 13:28He was a catcher who didn't strike out.
- 13:30Tell me a catcher in in history and we talk about Johnny Bench,
- 13:35Mike Piazza, Pudge Rodriguez, you can name all the great ones.
- 13:39Tell me a catcher that only struck out 12 times in a season.
- 13:44There is none and. Forget, don't forget what size
- 13:46bat he used. By the way, he wasn't using a
- 13:49toothpick. No, he was, he grandpa was only
- 13:525, eight, 192 lbs. He swung a 3034 inch, 35 oz bat.
- 13:57I don't know. I mean that's it's heavy and the
- 14:00handles were fat. We have them in the museum.
- 14:02You can come and actually touch the handles and compare them to
- 14:04like the, you know, Jeter's bats, the bats that people use
- 14:07today. His is tremendous.
- 14:10And actually, we have a Roberto Clementi back right next to him.
- 14:12Roberto Clementi was like 165 lbs soaking wet with rocks in
- 14:16his pockets and he swung at 3636.
- 14:18That's crazy. It's it's unbelievable.
- 14:21It's when you look at the stature of Yogi Berra, 5 foot 8
- 14:25and, and the way he was hitting the ball power wise and, and
- 14:28everything that he did as a baseball player.
- 14:30It's an amazing, it's an amazing story.
- 14:32And guys, if you haven't checked it out, go check it out.
- 14:35It's on Netflix. I know people were telling.
- 14:38Me, we lost our Netflix license. It's on Amazon and Apple now
- 14:41all. Right, so Amazon and Apple, it
- 14:43is a great documentary. You get a chance to see him when
- 14:47he was a kid and how he moved forward as a baseball player all
- 14:50the way from high school to the major leagues and and really the
- 14:54back end he did he he did quit school in 8th grade and and the
- 14:58little story is is he didn't want to be a Yankee.
- 15:00He wanted I think if I'm not mistaken, he wanted to be a
- 15:02Cardinal. That's what he wanted to do.
- 15:04He wanted to play for the Saint Louis Cardinals, but I think the
- 15:07Cardinals decided to go with another player, signed another
- 15:10player. And that was when he he decided,
- 15:12hey, the Yankees gave him no offer.
- 15:14He took the Yankees offer and it was probably the best thing as
- 15:16he said, it was the best thing that ever happened to him.
- 15:18So it is a great story. He is a I again, I didn't know
- 15:23him. Joppa knew him that each your
- 15:24grandfather and there are people that I know that knew him very,
- 15:28very well and told me. He was one of the most kindest
- 15:32people you could ever talk to. And he always had a story to
- 15:35tell, always told the story. It didn't matter how many times
- 15:37he told the story. He told the story to a tee.
- 15:40It was like every time he told the story and he changed the
- 15:42story around, it was the exact same story over and over and
- 15:46over again. Everybody tells me that.
- 15:47So it is a crazy, he was a crazy unique person.
- 15:51I got a question for you. You look at all his team mates
- 15:55he's played with. You've got Mickey Mantle you
- 15:58showed. Imagine all these, all these
- 16:00guys that he played with. Who was the guy that he told you
- 16:04was his favorite to play with, and why was he the favorite his
- 16:08favorite Yankee to play with? I don't he didn't really talk
- 16:12about guys like that. He would.
- 16:14He talked about Joe Di Maggio with a lot of like awe and and
- 16:17reverence. Like I think there's a story
- 16:20about grandpa like booting a ball in one of his first games
- 16:22up behind home plate. And Di Maggio came running off
- 16:24the field after the inning and got in grandpa's face and said
- 16:27get better. And I and grandpa was terrified
- 16:29and he got better. But I think that there was a
- 16:31part of grandpa that was always a little bit terrified of Joe Di
- 16:34Maggio. So there was that.
- 16:36But as far as favorite guy to play with, I mean, he was on the
- 16:39same team for 18 years, right? These guys were so much more
- 16:43than just his teammates, like Phil Rizzuto's my father's
- 16:45godfather. You know, I grew up with Mickey
- 16:48Vandal and and Hank Bauer and Moose Scouring and White Ford
- 16:52and Eddie Lopat, Gil McDougal, all these people in and out of
- 16:54the house. They were just like friends of
- 16:56the they were grandpa's buddies, right?
- 16:58Like, and, and, you know, I think he, he loved that they
- 17:02could like put grandpa 345 with, you know, jockeying him and
- 17:07Mickey Mantle, making other teams decide like who they
- 17:10wanted to pitch to on any given day because you're screwed
- 17:12either way. I think they love screwing with
- 17:14people like that. You know, Grandpa loved calling
- 17:17games. He loved getting the most out of
- 17:19pitchers and he was really good at it.
- 17:20He just, he really loved what he did.
- 17:23And I think, I think he would have loved doing it with
- 17:26whomever you put him on the field with.
- 17:29But really, they were just his. They were his his buddies.
- 17:32I mean, they hung out till they were like 90.
- 17:34My grandfather was at, you know, Phil Rizzuto's bedside almost
- 17:38every day in the weeks before he passed.
- 17:40And and, you know, they talked to Whitey Ford on the regular.
- 17:43Like even when they're both both of their health was, was
- 17:46declining. Like, these were like really
- 17:48lifelong friendships. We're talking.
- 17:49I, I, I, I couldn't even imagine.
- 17:51I'm sitting in a house as a young kid and Mickey Mantle
- 17:54comes right in and Whitey Ford walks in, in the door and
- 17:58they're, they're sitting down. It's Uncle Whitey, you know,
- 18:00Uncle Mickey. And I'm looking around and I'm
- 18:02like, who are these guys? And I realize.
- 18:06And I was, I just, I didn't know.
- 18:07I mean, I knew they were baseball players, but I, it was
- 18:09a long time. Like, I had to get older to
- 18:12really understand, you know, just how amazing these guys,
- 18:15these guys actually were. It's crazy.
- 18:17It is. It's a crazy.
- 18:19How crazy story, how long? Because he literally would bring
- 18:22this up and and we had this conversation because I'd I'd
- 18:25like to poke the bear every once in a while.
- 18:27How long did he tell you that Jackie Robinson was out?
- 18:29Because every time he literally would be.
- 18:33But he was. He was out.
- 18:35No, he was. Out I I have never.
- 18:37I mean, he insisted he was out. I'll tell you another story
- 18:40after that, but wait, I, I, this is funny.
- 18:42So he, he always insisted Jackie was out.
- 18:44And I can't even tell you like, I mean, 1000 times people came
- 18:48up to us in restaurants or at ball games or whatever and
- 18:51they'd be like, Yogi, I got a question for you was and they'd
- 18:55get the first syllable of Jackie's name out of his bed
- 18:57and, and would go out. He was out right.
- 19:00Like totally crazy. So 2014 he's in assisted living.
- 19:05Dementia is like really bad. I used to go up in there in the
- 19:09afternoons and if it was summertime, I'd, I'd, you know,
- 19:11put the pre game show on for him or, or whatever was on Yes
- 19:14network and winter time. I put on Michael Kay's show 3-4
- 19:17o'clock whatever time it was because the baseball stuff kind
- 19:20of brought him back to reality. So I show up there one afternoon
- 19:23in November and he's got no idea what's going on.
- 19:26He doesn't know if he's had lunch, doesn't know if he wants
- 19:28dinner, thinks he's got a tee time in Tampa.
- 19:30He's late for it, totally out of it, put on Michael Kay's show.
- 19:34Michael starts talking. Grandpa kind of perks up.
- 19:36He whacks me. Linds, what's Michael talking
- 19:38about? I said, oh, he just got back
- 19:41from the general managers meetings and they approved
- 19:43instant replay for use in games. And Grandpa goes, what does that
- 19:46mean? And I'm like, oh, it means
- 19:48instead of getting all root and toot and mad when you didn't
- 19:50like the call and running out of the dugout and kicking dirt on
- 19:53people, you just point to the sky And they would get to watch
- 19:56the same replay we see at home. Exactly.
- 19:59There he is, rooting Tooting man with the veins sticking out of
- 20:01his neck. And the umpires would get to get
- 20:04to overturn the play on the field if they'd gotten the call
- 20:07wrong. And I'm telling you he'd been
- 20:08completely out of it 2 seconds before.
- 20:10And he just says to me, So you mean Jackie would have been out?
- 20:13And I was like, you know what? Yeah, Grandpa, that's, that's
- 20:17that's what it means. Like you, you've got the instant
- 20:19replay down. But yeah, he insisted until the
- 20:21day he died that Jackie, Jackie had been out.
- 20:24So I want to ask for the other perspective.
- 20:25Like, obviously you're a catcher.
- 20:26You're facing a lot of the guys, the batters directly in the back
- 20:29to your trash talk and the hitters like that.
- 20:31Well, any hitters that like that that he was saying, Oh, well,
- 20:34this guy, this guy really will rile you up or even in a crazy
- 20:37occurrence that he saw with some of these hitters.
- 20:40He used to talk to everybody. People would like he used to
- 20:43throw dirt in their shoes. And he was always asking the
- 20:45ridiculous questions like, you know, how's your how's you know,
- 20:48how's the wife and the kids? Did you go fishing?
- 20:50How many fish did you catch the last time?
- 20:52Where are you going fishing in the offseason?
- 20:54And people would just be like, Yogi, shut up.
- 20:55I'm trying to do my I'm trying to hit whatever.
- 20:57There's a really famous one. Hank Aaron.
- 21:00Was it the 58 World Series? Somebody correct me.
- 21:02When do they play the Braves? And Aaron came up to bat and
- 21:05grandpa again, he just would say mindless, ridiculous stuff.
- 21:09And he would say, Hank, you got your bat upside down.
- 21:12You got it's supposed to be so you can read the label.
- 21:14And Hank very famously says, yo, getting come up here to read,
- 21:18you know, so it's he just was yapping to everybody he loved.
- 21:22He loved getting on everybody's case.
- 21:23We are talking to his. Grandchildren.
- 21:26There you go. We are talking to the executive
- 21:28producer of It Ain't Over, Lindsay Barra, Yogi Berra's
- 21:32granddaughter. You know, it's so funny.
- 21:34I, I watched, I'm a Billy Crystal fan.
- 21:36I, I love Billy Crystal. Everything about Billy is stand
- 21:39up. All the movies he's been in.
- 21:41I've watched a a sleepless in Seattle is what movie that I
- 21:45watched when I was a kid and with the Yankees.
- 21:48He's always been a part of the Yankees.
- 21:49He's been the voice of the New York Yankees for forever.
- 21:52Movies, television series, everything.
- 21:55What was it like working with Billy Crystal?
- 21:59Billy was amazing. He was he was really great.
- 22:02So if you see the film, unfortunately, fortunately, I
- 22:07end up narrating that movie and my choice was actually Billy
- 22:10Crystal. And you know, we, we, I thought
- 22:13from the beginning that that was what we were going to do.
- 22:15We were going to have Billy narrate, narrate the film and he
- 22:17was all on board and he does wonderful interviews in in the
- 22:20film. He's just great and he was great
- 22:22helping me promote it. And he he did some Q and as and
- 22:24stuff and he had great stories about grandpa and you know,
- 22:28Mickey Mantle and and Maris and and shooting 61 and and all that
- 22:32kind of stuff. He's great.
- 22:34He's a huge baseball fan, Billy, and, and just has such fond
- 22:37memories of the Yankees when he was a little kid.
- 22:40And you can tell when he talks about it like he's 12 when he's
- 22:44telling you about like his love of the Yankees and where it came
- 22:47from and all that kind of stuff. He's just he's a really a, a
- 22:49great guy. I've enjoyed it and.
- 22:51You know what, you want you. I laugh all the time when I
- 22:53watch the movie City Slickers. He's always wearing a Mets hat
- 22:55and I didn't. I never got it.
- 22:58This guy's a Yankee fan and throughout the movie he's
- 23:01wearing a New York Mets hat. I I never, I if I ever met and
- 23:05get a chance to meet Billy Crystal, that's the first
- 23:07question. That's one of the all time
- 23:09funniest movies as far as I'm concerned with you in it and
- 23:13you're wearing you're a die hard Yankee fan and you're a Mets
- 23:16hat. It makes no sense.
- 23:17Billy makes none. I just, I had to say that.
- 23:20Grandpa wore Grandpa wore a Mets hat for 11 years.
- 23:23That's right. Well, it's that's different.
- 23:25I mean, it's Yogi Berra, Billy Crystal.
- 23:29I mean it made no sense in every single movie I've ever seen him
- 23:33in. I I've loved Billy.
- 23:35I've everything every single movie he's ever dodged, even
- 23:38stand up stuff. Him and Robin Williams and
- 23:40Whoopi Goldberg when I used to watch him do stand up loved
- 23:43Billy Crystal, the crystal out of all of them.
- 23:46And then I see him, I watch city slickers.
- 23:48I went to see City Slickers one and two in the movie theater and
- 23:52I'm like, wait a second, isn't Billy Crystal a die hard Yankee
- 23:55fan? What the hell is he wearing a
- 23:56Mets hat for? I'd be like, I'd be like, Billy,
- 23:59I got to smack you around a couple times.
- 24:01No Yankee fan wears a Mets hat. None.
- 24:04And, and, and Yogi actually played, you know, he worked with
- 24:07the Mets. He was a part of the Mets
- 24:09organization for a while. So that's OK.
- 24:11Billy Crystal never played baseball.
- 24:13He was a die hard Yankee fan. That's all I had to add, sorry.
- 24:17He did. He played in spring training.
- 24:19Oh, stop, Stop. Are you gonna he?
- 24:22Took us to dinner that night too.
- 24:26I mean, it was nice of him to take Who is the.
- 24:29Country singer that tried to make it to the professional
- 24:32baseball, but make it Garth Brooks tried to make it to
- 24:35professional baseball. Yeah, I, I remember that story
- 24:38and I'm like, and Garth was actually a pretty good, he was a
- 24:41pretty good baseball player. He he can hit it, but he tried
- 24:45out. Watched the Tom Selleck get bat
- 24:47on Instagram the other day On anything on the Internet.
- 24:52Mr. Baseball is one of my favorite movies too.
- 24:54I love that movie when he went to Japan and that's a great
- 24:57movie. By the way, if anybody has never
- 24:59seen Mr. Baseball in the 1980s sensational, but you know, to
- 25:03get back with your your grandfather growing up in a
- 25:07family, a big family, your grandmother and I and part of
- 25:11the documentary you see his love for his wife.
- 25:14What was it like? I mean, the the, the
- 25:16togetherness of your family. What what brought your father,
- 25:20your grandfather and your grandmother together?
- 25:22You're. Going to make me cry now.
- 25:25My grandparents were amazing. They met at Biggie's Restaurant,
- 25:29which was Stan Musial's restaurant on the Hill in Saint
- 25:31Louis in 1949. And my grandfather was with Joe
- 25:36Garagiola, his buddy who lived directly across the street from
- 25:39him, who also made the big leagues, won a World Series with
- 25:44the Cardinals. Joe used to say, you know,
- 25:45usually when you make the big leagues, you're the best catcher
- 25:48in your school, your town, your state, With Yogi across the
- 25:50street, I wasn't even the best catcher on my block.
- 25:53They used to go into Biggie's. And Grandpa Yogi sees Grammy
- 25:57going in and out and he thinks she's cute.
- 25:59And Joe and and Grandpa would go sit at the bar and get glasses
- 26:03of water because they couldn't afford to eat at the restaurant.
- 26:06And Grandpa would basically just sit there and stare at Grammy
- 26:08Carmen until Joe said we got to get out of here and get
- 26:10something to eat. I'm hungry.
- 26:12At the beginning, she wouldn't date him because she thought
- 26:15first she thought he was married, then she said she
- 26:17didn't date ball players. And then she finally agrees to
- 26:20go out with them and they were married like 11 months later.
- 26:23But my grandfather does not get out the door if it is not for
- 26:26Grammy Carmen, like for the rest of his life.
- 26:28They were absolutely incredible. She would say that the reason
- 26:31they were married for 65 years was because he was on the road
- 26:33for half of it. I don't believe that.
- 26:37It was a really amazing thing to watch.
- 26:39Like, and I know it now, like, you know, we, we grow up.
- 26:42You see people's relationships, some of them are great, some of
- 26:44them are shitty, some of them are shitty and great, you know,
- 26:46whatever. But you look at the way those
- 26:49two were together and the way she was like so able to just
- 26:56completely selflessly share him with every other person on the
- 27:00planet who wanted a piece of him and just, they were so secure in
- 27:04their relationship together. He was just absolutely smitten
- 27:07with her and she loved him to death.
- 27:08And it was a really cool thing to to watch.
- 27:10I know. It's an amazing story.
- 27:12And and he said that family meant everything and if it
- 27:15wasn't for your grandmother, he wouldn't be the man he is today
- 27:19or was at at that time. So it is a it's a great story.
- 27:23And and I'm telling you guys, if you've never, if you're a Yogi
- 27:25Berra fan and you're a Yankee fan, you have to check out this
- 27:30documentary. It is, it's sensational.
- 27:31I'm a documentary guru. I love documentary.
- 27:35I tell Jabba all the time. I'm like, I don't even want to
- 27:38watch movies anymore. I'm trying to find the next
- 27:40documentary I could watch. And this is one of the best
- 27:42documentaries, very well put together.
- 27:45And you know, it's, it's sensational.
- 27:47And, and Jabba told me a little bit about your museum.
- 27:50Tell us a little bit more about your museum.
- 27:52You have an event coming up very, very soon.
- 27:54Tell us a little bit about the event that you have coming up
- 27:57here in New York. We're really excited about this.
- 28:00So it's the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center.
- 28:02It's on the campus of Montclair State University.
- 28:05It's 3 minutes from where I'm sitting right now.
- 28:07It's actually in Little Falls, NJ.
- 28:09May 12th would have been my grandfather's 100th birthday.
- 28:13So we've had events all year, all summer in celebration of his
- 28:16Centennial year. But our big event is September
- 28:1921st. It's a Sunday, 1:00 in the
- 28:22afternoon. We are going to break the
- 28:24Guinness World Record for the largest game of catch on Yogi
- 28:28Berra Stadium, which is the ballpark adjacent to the museum.
- 28:31We need 2000 people to break the record.
- 28:34We're hoping for 2528 hundred maybe.
- 28:37So we need everybody go to yogisbigcatch.org and sign up.
- 28:41It's going to be a super fun day.
- 28:42We're going to have food trucks and music and some old Yankees
- 28:45running around and and the museum's going to be open.
- 28:47And then we have another very cool thing happening.
- 28:50To the best of my knowledge, since my grandfather was
- 28:52inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972, his plaque has
- 28:57been on the wall in Cooperstown. They are taking it down for that
- 29:00day and driving it to New Jersey.
- 29:02It's going to be at our museum just for the one day only, the
- 29:05day of the big catch, so you can come and break a Guinness World
- 29:08Record and have your picture taken with Grandpa Yogis plaque
- 29:11in our theater. It's going to be a really great
- 29:12day, so I would appreciate anybody coming out.
- 29:15It's going to be a lot of fun and we don't care if you're not
- 29:18good at playing catch. To break the record you only
- 29:20have to be 10 feet apart and you play catch for 5 minutes and it
- 29:24doesn't matter if you drop the ball.
- 29:25So if you stink, we want you anyway.
- 29:29Lindsay what, like what made you I know you guys.
- 29:32I know you guys had an event. Like what what made you like
- 29:35want to do a game of catch? Because there I mean, obviously
- 29:37it's and important. I still just lost my dad five
- 29:41months ago and like that I still remember, you know, playing
- 29:44catching him actually letting me, you know, dive on the grass
- 29:47and get grass stains and I wouldn't get in trouble for it.
- 29:49So that was that was always nice when he would let me do that.
- 29:52So what made you guys do this? Because I know it's it's
- 29:54something special for all of us now, me being a dad myself.
- 29:58Full credit goes to Eve Shane and our museum director.
- 30:00It was really her idea when she and she was kind of just
- 30:03thinking about the connection grandpa had with people, so many
- 30:06people in our area, but also with so many people he never
- 30:09met, like the impact he made on people.
- 30:11And you know, you think about kids being on their phones
- 30:14nowadays and nobody putting their digital stuff down to
- 30:18actually like look at each other and really connect.
- 30:20And when you think back to playing catch when you're a kid,
- 30:23right, think about like how in tune you were with the person on
- 30:27the other end of that ball and how quickly the world narrowed
- 30:31to just the space between the two of you and just how nice and
- 30:35sweet and pleasant all those memories are.
- 30:37And it kind of transports you back to, to being a kid when
- 30:41times were simple. And that was really all there
- 30:42was, right? And we just kind of hope that we
- 30:45can get a whole bunch of kids and, and, and dads and moms and,
- 30:49and coaches and, and just folks out there and maybe feeling that
- 30:55connection for a little while playing this game that they love
- 30:58that my grandpa Yogi loved too. It's a great, let me tell you
- 31:02something, I'm going. We're all going to go.
- 31:04We're going to show up for Yogi. I know job is going.
- 31:07I think job is flying, right? Job you're, you're going to the
- 31:10event, right? Yeah, I'm gonna.
- 31:11I'm gonna try to. It's two days before my
- 31:13birthday. How old are we now?
- 31:15We'll. Bring you a Cup game once we.
- 31:18Come, I'll be the Big 40. Oh.
- 31:22Lindsay, you're not supposed to tell my secrets.
- 31:24We talked about that. I.
- 31:26Didn't. Tell anyone?
- 31:27Oh yeah, I. Want you to steal second?
- 31:29Yeah, right. Are there?
- 31:30Secrets we don't know I. Won't.
- 31:32I won't go. I won't, I won't go where?
- 31:35Where? I could have gone with that,
- 31:37Lindsay. Oh yeah, I'm way older than you,
- 31:39so I'm allowed to tell you, you said.
- 31:40It I didn't, I wasn't going to get.
- 31:41Way older than you. I wasn't going to get in.
- 31:43Trouble. Well, well, hold on one second.
- 31:45Way much older than you. How?
- 31:47How much older are you? I mean, come on, Lindsay.
- 31:50I'm 47. I'm 40.
- 31:52Three, I'm 43. Than you too then.
- 31:56Age is just a number, baby. OK, so as I tell everybody on
- 31:59the show, anybody that's younger than me, they're what did I call
- 32:02them Speedy? They're.
- 32:03All babies. They're all babies.
- 32:07Near children. Near children, I pat them on the
- 32:10back. So if I see Jabba, obviously
- 32:12Jabba is 6 foot three. I'm 510.
- 32:15I'll, I'll climb his back to you.
- 32:20Ain't climbing nothing, bro. No.
- 32:23Where's my ladder? Good.
- 32:27I'm good on, I'm good on the climbing.
- 32:29But we're going to go to the event and we're going to try to
- 32:32bring as many people as we possibly can because I'm a big
- 32:36I, I'm actually wearing authentic Yogi Berra jersey.
- 32:39Authentic. It's a, it's a beautiful jersey.
- 32:41I own very few Yankee jerseys. I'm a Yankee fan, but one of
- 32:46Jersey. What is that?
- 32:47No. This is unique.
- 32:48I'll show you I I don't think you've ever seen anything like
- 32:50this. I thought it was a Newark Bears
- 33:16no. No, no, no.
- 33:17Look at that. Look this.
- 33:18It's not that. Off the wish website or
- 33:20something, no? It's his minor league jersey.
- 33:22Oh no, you know, if it's his minor league grit that is the
- 33:25it's Norfolk. Norfolk, yeah, yeah, the.
- 33:28Norfolk Tars Yes, this is a real.
- 33:31Name on Well, I know obviously this is a real jersey over here
- 33:36and I didn't. What are you, what are you
- 33:38trying to say, Jabba? Were you saying my jerseys
- 33:40aren't real? They're not good enough for you.
- 33:43You know what I've Jabba hates us calling him Groba.
- 33:49Groba. He.
- 33:50Hates us calling Joe. All right, so, so, So what I
- 33:54did, Lindsay, So what I did is I got his Nebraska jersey, he's
- 33:59#62 and instead of having Jabba put on the back of his jersey, I
- 34:04put Joe JOBA. No Joe Apostrophe BA.
- 34:11Joe BA And I'm getting it. When I see Joba, I'm going to
- 34:14have him sign it and I'm going to station it right in our
- 34:21studio. I, I love messing with him.
- 34:23And it, it's been a crazy ride we've had over the last past
- 34:27year. And I, I don't know if you knew
- 34:29this, Jabba came on our show as a guest and when he came on the
- 34:33show, he told me, well, Speedy told me right over here.
- 34:36He told me 20 minutes, 20 minutes, that's all Jabba's got.
- 34:39And before you know it, this guy is on on the call for about an
- 34:43hour and 20 minutes. He takes over the conversation
- 34:46and I'm like I said, I thought you only wanted to be on for 20
- 34:48minutes. He started laughing.
- 34:50And then before you know it, the Yankees, the Yankees were in the
- 34:54playoffs. And he reached out to me and
- 34:55said, yo, could we could we do something for the Yankee game
- 34:58and for Yankees Cleveland. I said, yeah, let's do
- 35:01something. So I said, let's do like a
- 35:03podcast. So we did it together.
- 35:05We worked very, very good together.
- 35:07And I said, you know what, Let's, let's put something
- 35:09together and create a podcast. And, and since since then, we've
- 35:13been a top 200 podcast in the country right now and on Spotify
- 35:18and Apple. And we're doing 6, We're very
- 35:21successful. We're doing sensational work
- 35:23right now. And I, I, I don't think there's
- 35:25better content in the industry than ours.
- 35:28So I, I think it's great. And Jabba's been unique because
- 35:31I, I wouldn't expect Jabba know anything more than baseball, but
- 35:34he actually knows a lot more than people think.
- 35:41But I, the best thing about this show is, is, is really sticking
- 35:45it to Jabba. You know, you have to find ways
- 35:47to get onto his skin. And when he and when you get
- 35:49onto his skin, he's like, he's like a wolf and a bear put
- 35:53together. I, I swear he, he, if he can
- 35:55jump through the screen and bite your head off, I think he would.
- 35:58So true story on that. I.
- 36:00Will transform into a wolf and a bear hybrid when he when you
- 36:03when you allegedly try to climb on him.
- 36:07Did grandpa get your name right? Did grandpa always call you Java
- 36:10properly? Because I my favorite was he
- 36:13always called Robbie Canoe. But you never correct him.
- 36:19You just that was just the way it is.
- 36:21I corrected him all the time. I was like, canoe.
- 36:23Who's canoe? Oh, I couldn't imagine you knew
- 36:26you. Would do that my dad.
- 36:27My dad would always say when that would happen, he'd be like,
- 36:30you knew who I was talking about, right?
- 36:32And then you were like, yeah, you're, I guess you're right.
- 36:35I couldn't imagine your father trying to pronounce my name.
- 36:38I couldn't imagine it. Oh, I couldn't.
- 36:40He'd have probably called you like, you look like a Brit, so
- 36:42he's going to call you Brit. That's the way.
- 36:46That's what he would remember you.
- 36:47But like, yeah, it literally that's what he would do.
- 36:49One of my favorite was Old Timer's Day when Yogi and Whitey
- 36:54would get together and then they would go and they would sit in
- 36:57the training room. They would tell stories and
- 37:00Whitey would have a Bud heavy and they would just be sitting
- 37:02there. And I remember my first Old
- 37:04Timer's Day, I was literally like, I did.
- 37:06I don't think I moved. I was like, is this like really
- 37:08happening? Like, what am I watching right
- 37:11now? I was like, it just those
- 37:15stories and I I can only imagine.
- 37:17And it's, it's so cool for you because it's like, that's just,
- 37:21that was normal. Like that was just hey, that's
- 37:23that, that's grandpa's friends. Like hey, just they're hanging
- 37:27out like, and then you're like, Oh yeah, they're kind of cool.
- 37:30But no, they make fun of me and pick on me.
- 37:32And that's, I mean, that's just the greatest thing.
- 37:34And it's always, always so fun, you know, because you never
- 37:39know. He just all of a sudden, only
- 37:41thing you could count on, it was him and Gator in spring
- 37:44training. And I think, I think the first
- 37:48time I had frog legs was of course, Gator brought them.
- 37:52And always look forward because Gator would get there a couple
- 37:55days early. He's like, I got to get ready.
- 37:56I got to pick up Yogi at 2:00. And then it'd be like we're
- 37:59doing frog legs next week. And I'm like, I'm from Nebraska.
- 38:02We have, I'd never ever. He's like, you have to try them
- 38:05and then you know, you'd get something from from Yogi and
- 38:08it'll just be like, what? You can't say no at that point,
- 38:11can you? But yeah, that that was another
- 38:13relationship. It was always so cool to watch
- 38:14those two. And I mean, they were thick as
- 38:17thieves together in spring training and just it, it was
- 38:20really, really fun to watch those guys.
- 38:22Gator became sort of like the the his fourth son and and he's
- 38:25been tremendous with the museum. He Co hosts our golf outing now
- 38:28and he will actually be there with us on September 21st.
- 38:32So does he. Still have great hair.
- 38:35He does have great hair actually.
- 38:36He's the best accent. I could listen to Gator read the
- 38:39phone book I love. I love this 100%, but he's, he's
- 38:43got the, you know, if if anyone is interested in reading a good
- 38:46book, Harvey Araton wrote this book called Driving Mr. Yogi
- 38:49about Gator running grandpa around spring training.
- 38:52And the stories that Gator tells about like grandpa following a
- 38:56busty woman around the frozen food section at the supermarket
- 39:00or picking, picking the, the one he tells all the time is him,
- 39:05him dropping grandpa off at the airport to go film the Aflac
- 39:07commercial and then picking him up on the back end.
- 39:10And, and I mean, I'm butchering and, and shortening a very long
- 39:15story that Gator tells and it's great.
- 39:16But when grandpa Yogi jumps back in in Gator's truck, he Gator's
- 39:20like, how was it Yog? And he says, you know, Gator,
- 39:22the, the duck don't talk. And the way Gator tells that
- 39:26story is tremendous. But they were, they were just
- 39:29really great pals. Gator still refers to him as his
- 39:32little buddy. Wow, Lindsay, we really
- 39:34appreciate you. You're sensational.
- 39:36We'd love to get you on again. I didn't expect you to be on as
- 39:39long as you were because you know, usually everybody rushes
- 39:4320 minutes like Java, 20 minutes, 20 minutes and it turns
- 39:46into. Told me that I was going to be
- 39:47in my pajamas and I would. Stay and then I would go to bed.
- 39:50So end of story. You know what's so funny about
- 39:53Nathan? If you know anything about
- 39:54Nathan, he wears this blue blazer.
- 39:56OK, It's it's a very common picture.
- 39:59And and we got to get our executive producer to post up.
- 40:02I have you ever seen him wear this configuration of clothes?
- 40:06I mean, seriously, Lindsay, this is one of the worst dressing
- 40:09people I've ever seen in my entire life.
- 40:11Go ahead, fish. Let's.
- 40:12It's bad. You you have to see this.
- 40:15You have to see this. This is like really, really bad.
- 40:18Lindsay. I'm I'm trying to help him.
- 40:20We need to take him shopping. This is somebody that really
- 40:24needs like we need to take him out for a suit or some kind of
- 40:29opportunity. Do we have it?
- 40:30Is it up? Do we have it?
- 40:32Mr. Fish, here it is. Hold on, Here it is.
- 40:35Could you imagine wearing something of that?
- 40:37Like the camo? He's got the Plaid with the
- 40:39camo. He's mixing Prince I.
- 40:41I mean, come on, mixing. I mean, that is probably the
- 40:44worst dresser I've ever seen in my entire life.
- 40:47I I mean a red shirt, but a red polo shirt with a blue blazer.
- 40:51And it looks like he just came out of the service.
- 40:58Oh man, what a what a man you come.
- 41:01To the catch and you can just wear sneakers and then and a
- 41:04Yogi T-shirt there you. Go and and we're I'm definitely
- 41:07going to go I'm going to get the boys to go and we I'm looking
- 41:10forward to getting a chance to meet you and hopefully Jabba can
- 41:14get a chance to go down there. It's a it's a great opportunity
- 41:17to get a chance to celebrate one of the greatest baseball
- 41:20players, one of the greatest Yankees of all time and get a
- 41:23check, get a chance to check out his museum and all the different
- 41:27things that you you'll have the opportunity to do at this event.
- 41:30Tell the tell the fans one more time what day and how they can
- 41:34find this and and sign up for it.
- 41:38So it's September 21st, gates open at 11:30.
- 41:41The big catch is happening at 1:00.
- 41:45You sign up at Yogi's big catch.org.
- 41:49If you don't have a MIT, we're going to have one for you.
- 41:51No need to bring baseballs. We've got those show up with
- 41:57five 1035 of your closest friends will be greatly
- 42:01appreciative of it. And, and again, we got the food
- 42:03trucks and the music and the Hall of Fame plaque in the
- 42:05theater and it's just going to be a super fun day there.
- 42:07It's on the campus of Montclair State University, Yogi Berra
- 42:10Museum and Learning Center and hopefully we break this Guinness
- 42:13World Record. There was just an article in the
- 42:15New York Times Sunday magazine that said the hardest thing
- 42:19about breaking Guinness World Records.
- 42:20No one can do it now as you can't get people to show up and
- 42:24you can't get people to get off their butt, put their phones
- 42:27down, get off the couch and show up in person to do stuff.
- 42:30So we wanna we wanna prove them wrong.
- 42:32Wow. I like to show up to things.
- 42:34I just get my I get in trouble sometimes when I show up to
- 42:37things, doing the things. By the way, I broke a record, a
- 42:40gayness book of world record I'm not gonna mention.
- 42:42Hold on, a what? Guinness Book A World record
- 42:48Guinness Guinness. Guinness.
- 42:50Guinness, I didn't know if there, I didn't know if there
- 42:52was another book out there. Be quiet, Jabba.
- 42:55Shut your mouth. Shut your mouth, Jabba.
- 42:57All right, I this is what I got to deal with.
- 43:00He's doing the picking on now tonight.
- 43:02I I mean, this is the guy that I pick on during the show.
- 43:05And now right in front of Lindsay and the granddaughter of
- 43:09one of the greatest baseball players of all time, he's
- 43:11picking on me. What are you drinking over
- 43:13there, Jabba? Water.
- 43:17I know I'm just, I'm, I'm, I'm just trying to get you here.
- 43:20Hydrated guy? Yeah.
- 43:21He does. He hydrates.
- 43:22I'm hydrating too. But I I've been staying away
- 43:25from sugar, ladies and gentlemen.
- 43:27I don't have a shaker. What is?
- 43:28That right there. What is that right there?
- 43:30What bottle is water bottle? Oh, all right.
- 43:34Interesting. Mustard.
- 43:35That's right. I work for.
- 43:36Mustard Tea House is pitching out Team Mustard.
- 43:39Check it out. How do they find your your team
- 43:42mustard? Is there a website to find Team
- 43:45Mustard? Teammstrd.com at Team MSTRD on
- 43:50Insta and Twitter and the TikTok and all the places Tom, it's
- 43:54Tom, the great Tom House pitching coach put his brain
- 43:58into an app so you can kind of have him in your pocket.
- 44:00Gives you a pitching bio, mechanics, feedback and we also
- 44:05partnered with Golf Digest and built the app in in golf.
- 44:08And you can get coached by Justin Rose and his swing coach
- 44:11Mark Blackburn. So we've got mustard baseball
- 44:13and and mustard golf. Well, Lindsay, as always, Errol.
- 44:17Likes honey mustard? I do, I'm a big honey mustard
- 44:20fan. Love it, but it has to be sweet.
- 44:23It can't be. If it tastes anything like
- 44:24mustard I get sick. I I have like this like I get
- 44:28this like gagging feeling in my chest if I if I actually taste
- 44:31mustard. You have very strong feelings
- 44:33about mustard. It's really amazing.
- 44:35I, I don't like it. I really don't.
- 44:37And, and I'm not a hot dog eater, but if I eat a hot dog,
- 44:39it's, it's got to have relish and some kind of ketchup, not a
- 44:43lot of ketchup, but some kind of ketchup.
- 44:45So, and then I have to have Heinz ketchup.
- 44:49So just so you know, I it can't be any any other ketchup.
- 44:52It's got to be Hans So and Jabba.
- 44:54What are you looking at right now?
- 44:55What are you? Here he goes.
- 44:57He goes with his mouth. Yeah.
- 44:59What are you going to say? Nothing.
- 45:02I was just. I only heard half of what you
- 45:04said right there. You're cutting in and out.
- 45:06Oh, are you? I don't know why I'm cutting in
- 45:08and out. Anyways, Lindsay, we really
- 45:10appreciate the time. Keep up the good work and we
- 45:13will be there. We will be there September 21st
- 45:16to support Yogi and all the great things that he has done
- 45:19and what you're doing right now throughout the community.
- 45:24Thank you guys so much for having me on.
- 45:25I really appreciate it. Java, great to see you.
- 45:28Nice to see. You.
- 45:29And I'm going to bed, Lindsay. Berra, ladies and gentlemen,
- 45:38Yogi Berra's granddaughter, sensational, great personality,
- 45:42knows her baseball. Could you imagine, ladies and
- 45:45gentlemen? And like I said, I have a new
- 45:47mic and people say it's puffing or whatever.
- 45:50I, I know that the sound is perfect.
- 45:52So it doesn't matter if it's puffing or whatever.
- 45:54I will say this. Could you imagine being a kid
- 45:57and sitting in the house and Mickey Mantle walks in the door,
- 46:01Whitey Ford walks in the door, Phil Rizzuto walks in the door,
- 46:05and they're just sitting in a round table and having a
- 46:08conversation. And you grow up and you're like,
- 46:11I just sat next to one of the greatest switch hitters of all
- 46:14time, one of the greatest infielders of all time, and my
- 46:18grandfather is one of the greatest catchers of all time.
- 46:21And I didn't even know who they were when they were sitting
- 46:22there when I was a kid. So it is an unbelievable story.
- 46:26It really is. And it's sensational.
- 46:28And I'd like to thank Lindsay for joining us.
- 46:30I know she's a busy person. September 21st, we'll all we'll
- 46:34talk. Well, we'll, we'll set up a
- 46:36carpool. We should all go down support
- 46:38Yogi Berra and what she's doing right now.
- 46:40It's a sensational story. Thank you very much, Lindsay,
- 46:43for joining us. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 46:46the one and only speedy stat of the day.
- 46:49The speedy. Well, you may run like me, but
- 46:54you hit like out of the way. All right, so Fish was hinting
- 46:59at the Amari Cooper trade or Amari Cooper re signing with the
- 47:02Raiders in his sports minute and there was another guy that
- 47:05requested a trade as a result and a guy that kind of gotten
- 47:09undervalued because he's not a big touchdown guy, not a big big
- 47:11play guy. But Jacoby Myers, since started
- 47:14with the Patriots, has been consistently one of the best
- 47:17slot receivers in the NFL for the last four years, and now
- 47:21he's going to be on the market. 1 of 10 receivers who has 67
- 47:25catches and 800 yards in the last four years.
- 47:28That's all receivers, not just slot receivers. 90% contested
- 47:31catch rate from the slot. 11.8 yards per game or per catch.
- 47:35LED slot receivers 2 years ago when Josh McDaniels got fired,
- 47:39but last year was only used less than 20% from the slot. 19.6.
- 47:43So the Raiders inevitably going to move him.
- 47:45Is there a good team that could be a good fit for somebody like
- 47:48him? Who are you talking about?
- 47:49Jacoby Myers. Jacoby Myers, I remember him
- 47:52with the New England Patriots. He's a wide receiver.
- 47:55You can put him in the slot. I I think he's more of a #2.
- 47:58He's not a number one. There will be teams interested
- 48:00in Jacoby Myers. I could see the Browns.
- 48:02The Browns need another wide receiver.
- 48:04There are maybe The Jets. If The Jets are looking for a #2
- 48:08guy, I don't even know if he's a #2.
- 48:09He's more of a #3. But there are teams looking for
- 48:13some offensive talent. I just don't know if Jacoby
- 48:16Myers is a guy that I don't know how.
- 48:18What is he making right now? Is he making 14,000,000?
- 48:20Ten and a half million in the. Last year, he's making, he's not
- 48:23making a lot of money. So maybe how about the Green
- 48:26Bay? Well, the Green Bay trackers are
- 48:27looking to possibly move Watson. Maybe they.
- 48:29They also have like all all slot type receivers anyway already.
- 48:33I don't know. I I don't know who's going to be
- 48:35interested in them, but there's definitely a market for him.
- 48:38He's a wide receiver and teams need offense.
- 48:41So yes, there's absolutely a market.
- 48:45All right, Speedy, great job with the stat of the day.
- 48:48Jacoby Myers might be on the. Move and here's another thing,
- 48:53there's there's a lot of wide wide receivers Alave is up on
- 48:57and he could be on the move. There's Watson on the Green Bay
- 48:59Packers. He's he could be on the move
- 49:02over the next couple of days. I mean, there are so many wide
- 49:05receivers that could be possibly moving from one team to another.
- 49:09There are teams looking for that number two guy.
- 49:11I, I mentioned The Jets, the Browns don't even have a number
- 49:14one guy. They have all three number three
- 49:16guys. Miami has the two Tyrique Tyree
- 49:21kill and they have Jay and waddle.
- 49:24So maybe they move Tyree kill sometime this year.
- 49:27I think they will Tyree kill could be on the move at the
- 49:30trade deadline. Don't be surprised if Kansas
- 49:32City is that team that could make the move to a Tyree kill at
- 49:35the trade downline. But there are teams out there
- 49:38looking for a wide receiver. I just, I, I, it's hard to
- 49:41believe that the Raiders would want to move him when they don't
- 49:44even have it. They don't really have a number
- 49:45one wide receiver either on that roster.
- 49:47They have Brock. Bauer Yeah, they drafted 2 of
- 49:49them this year. Who?
- 49:51Who? Hoping that they could pad out
- 49:53Jack Beck was a third round pick and then he's.
- 49:55Not a number one, no I. I, I don't think any either of
- 49:57them are #1 and then a kid Thornton who did a six round
- 50:00pick who's done very well in the in the preseason.
- 50:02Come on, I don't trust either of them either to be.
- 50:04Jacoby Myers is better than both of them, of course, so why would
- 50:07they? Why would they move Jacoby
- 50:08Myers? It makes no, absolutely no
- 50:10sense. That's what I'm saying.
- 50:11No, no guaranteed money on Myers contract.
- 50:14So he does he thinks like if he gets hurt, they're just going to
- 50:17cut him, right? So he wants to get a new
- 50:19contract that has guaranteed money for the season.
- 50:21If they don't get him that he's just not he's just going to sit
- 50:25out. It's not like you can trade him.
- 50:26He's not going to have that contract.
- 50:28Someone's going to have to pay that guy or he's not playing
- 50:30Nah. Patriots might take him back at
- 50:32that point the. Patriots don't need him.
- 50:34We've. Seen everything?
- 50:35Who's going to pay it? Every team's capitulated.
- 50:38I mean Seattle has no one opposite JSN the.
- 50:41Jets don't have anybody on the opposite of Garrett Wilson.
- 50:44Said Garrett Wilson is another good one.
- 50:46There's, there's, there are teams.
- 50:47What do you don't like Alan Lazard?
- 50:49No, Alan. Lazard is on the IR.
- 50:51He might not be back until week 7.
- 50:53A week 8. Alan Lazard is poor man Jacoby
- 50:55Myers. So that's what I'm saying.
- 50:57I, I mean, The Jets don't really have a number 2, but there are
- 50:59the teams that don't have number twos either.
- 51:01I mean, do the Giants have a number 2?
- 51:04Oh hell yeah. Got numbers, twos, threes, 4.
- 51:06We got one through 99 on the team crushing it.
- 51:09I'm sure and it's. Every roster number that can
- 51:11happen. There are teams out there that
- 51:13really don't have number twos, but Jacoby Myers is probably if
- 51:18you were larious. Sladen is better than anyone The
- 51:20Jets have is a #2. I don't know I, I, I have to
- 51:24look at The Jets roster. Al Lazar when he's healthy is
- 51:28all right, but The Jets are there.
- 51:30What I've heard is The Jets are making a they're trying to make
- 51:34a run at a Lave. I could see them getting a Lave.
- 51:37The question is what do they have to get give up to get
- 51:39somebody like a Lave there? So I'm interested to see what
- 51:42The Jets do in the next week, week and a half.
- 51:44But I don't think there are a couple of teams not done with
- 51:47the their rosters and and where they're going, where they're
- 51:50going with their rosters. The Jets made two trades already
- 51:53for defensive lineman, so I don't think The Jets are done.
- 51:55All right, ladies and gentlemen, thank you to Lindsay Barra for
- 51:59joining us. She was fantastic.
- 52:01Thank you very much Lindsay for joining us and putting the time
- 52:04in. It was about an hour she was on
- 52:05and she did a job. She did a job and that that her
- 52:09stories were sensational. Really sweet woman and go check
- 52:14her out. Go check out the the event
- 52:17September 21st and we will post it up on our social medias.

- 52:34they're well, they're going to be there.
- 52:35They're trying to break a gain a Gainus book of world record.
- 52:39So and yeah, so congratulations to the Berra family, a
- 52:45sensational woman and sensational family.

- 53:21So and, and Speedy, thank you for being a pain in the ass as
- 53:25you always are. But Speedy, let me ask you a
- 53:27question before we go. When was the last time you
- 53:31washed that hat? Washed the hat.
- 53:33Yeah, clean that hat. I mean, look at look at the dust
- 53:36on that hat. It looks like he put it in his.
- 53:39It is pretty dusty. It is one of the ugly.
- 53:41I'm going. To say since never.
- 53:43He never cleaned that hat, man. It looks like he stuck it in
- 53:46like a dryer or something. I don't know.
- 53:48It's pretty dusty. It's bad, it's bad.
- 53:50I got to clean it up. Anyways, we'll be back on
- 53:52Wednesday. Who do we have on the show 9.
- 53:5445, another son of a sibling, I guess you could say, of a former
- 53:59baseball player. Jaden Fielder will be coming on,
- 54:01who's the son of Prince Fielder and the grandson of Cecil
- 54:03Fielder. 3rd generation coming on a show and Cecil Fielder, one
