- 0:00Speaker 1: We got a lot to talk about.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Camp has been a lot of fun, A lot of
- 0:03the storylines have been awesome. Jeff, thanks so much for
- 0:07joining us, and listen, I gotta talk about Moro Jomo.
- 0:11He has been the story of camp to say the least.
- 0:14He has been huge in this camp. You've had Landard
- 0:18Dickerson really talk about him, uh and in glowing fashion.
- 0:24So talk to me about what Moro Jomo has done
- 0:28for this organization and in training camp so far.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Jeff, good to talk to you guys. Am. I in
- 0:35trouble by the way, because I heard Jeff P. Mosher I.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Was giving out your Twitter platform.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Okay, just making Jeff P.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Mosher please report to the principal's office.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And principal has had a very good camp.
- 0:54Speaker 4: In fact, my My Holleyhood Philly Voice Jimmy Keemsky wrote
- 0:59he did like a media He does this every year
- 1:01where he asks thirty reporters you know who's stock up
- 1:04and whose stock is down?
- 1:06Speaker 1: And Moro Joe will I believe he was the leading
- 1:08vote getter on defense for stock up.
- 1:11Speaker 4: And not only that, but he wrote that he realized
- 1:14last year Moro Jomo actually got a.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Lot of votes for stock Up too.
- 1:17Speaker 4: It's just that Milton Williams had such a great year,
- 1:20Jill and Carter had such a great year. You know,
- 1:23Jordan Davis gets a lot of discussion that it all
- 1:25almost went under the radar that a Jomo has played
- 1:27pretty well for two years now. The biggest difference, guys
- 1:32is A Jomo is not built like Milton Williams. He's
- 1:36much more long armed, and I think he uses that
- 1:39to his advantage. I don't know, he's a little bit
- 1:42lesser of an athlete, not too much, but lesser of
- 1:45an athlete than Milton Williams. But he's got really good
- 1:48hand usage, good feet, and he's having a very good camp.
- 1:52So I guess the question you'd have that we all
- 1:54have to have, and even Vic Fangio has said it,
- 1:57is can he just simply slide into the Milton Williams
- 2:00snap role and not only occupy the same number of snaps,
- 2:04but can he play at that level consistently like Milton did?
- 2:08Speaker 1: And he really doesn't have to because they're a little deeper.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Right with Ty Robinson now as a fourth round pick
- 2:14and Gabe Hall really coming on in camp, and even
- 2:16Jordan Davis is doing his best to kind of become
- 2:19a little bit more of.
- 2:21Speaker 1: A pass rushing presence.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm glad you invoked Jordan Davis there because he
- 2:26lost a lot of weight in this offseason.
- 2:28Speaker 1: He looks fantastic.
- 2:30Speaker 2: You want to see him more in the passing game
- 2:33and you know, getting pressure to the quarterback. What do
- 2:36you think his role is going to be heading into
- 2:38next year and how much do you think we'll see
- 2:39him in preseason.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Jordan Davis, Yes, yeah, I don't You're not going to
- 2:44see him in the preseason.
- 2:45Speaker 1: He's a starter.
- 2:46Speaker 4: He's you know, whether or not he's an improved pass
- 2:48rusher remains to be seen. But he is your starter
- 2:52in the base five man front, which you know they'll
- 2:55play on about twenty percent of their downs. And you know, now,
- 3:00Vic y, I guess it wouldn't totally surprise me if
- 3:04vic threw Jordan Davis out there in the preseason a
- 3:06little bit in a four man front as a three technique,
- 3:09just to see if that pass rush was coming along
- 3:12or not. But I still think that there's more reps
- 3:14that he needs to give to guys like Byron Young
- 3:17and Gabe Hall and a couple of other guys lower
- 3:20on the chart, so I don't know that you're going
- 3:22to see a whole lot of Jordan Davis.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Jeff Good to talk to you. We saw on a
- 3:27Super Bowl winning season the immediate impact that Quinnon, Mitchell
- 3:30and Cooper Degene eventually had. Two other guys that are
- 3:32going to be elevated on the depth chart now are
- 3:34Jylex Hunt and Jeremiah Trotter Junior got placed in the
- 3:37first team slot as well. I'm curious what kind of
- 3:40your thoughts are on what that's gonna be like for them.
- 3:44What have you seen from specifically Trotter in the past.
- 3:47It is going to make him more of a natural
- 3:49fit to take over a slot like that.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Yeah, So going back to Jimmy's media poll, I think
- 3:55Trotter got one or two votes for stock up player
- 3:58no stock down votes.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Was the one.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I was either the one or one.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Of the two to give trot that love because I
- 4:05think he's really and honestly, it probably wasn't stock up
- 4:09because his stock wasn't really down to begin with. But
- 4:12he's had our good camp. He's very instinctual, he knows
- 4:15where to be. It's almost as if he grew up
- 4:17in a family of linebackers and just knows how.
- 4:19Speaker 1: To play the game.
- 4:21Speaker 4: But that's sort of a stark difference than say John Campbell,
- 4:25who is the way better athlete, but is still, you know,
- 4:30even though he played the position last year at Alabama,
- 4:32still learning it. Not as instinctive. But it's kind of
- 4:35hard to when you're a first round pick and you
- 4:38have that kind of athleticism to not put you on
- 4:40the field. So I'm kind of curious to see, you know,
- 4:42when that season opens and Zach Bond's out there, does
- 4:46VIC play both of them, maybe one guy against the ron,
- 4:48one guy against the pass, or does he just say
- 4:51Campbell has shown me enough that I play him, and
- 4:53Trott will continue to be a great special teamer and you.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Know, fill in what we need to be.
- 4:57Speaker 4: But I have the utmost confidence that Trotter can start
- 5:01next to Bond and hold his own pretty well there, Jeff.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I wanted to talk about the offense a little bit.
- 5:07How have the players been adjusting to Kevin Petullo, specifically
- 5:12Jalen Hurts. I mean, I re Twitter all the time
- 5:15and I see all these interceptions that he's throwing and
- 5:18all this other nonsense.
- 5:20Speaker 1: But I think it's only two or three.
- 5:21Speaker 3: It's not like he's the world is ending every time
- 5:25Jalen Hurts throws an incomplete pass. But how has the
- 5:28offense kind of been adjusting to Patulloh and Jalen Hurts
- 5:32in specific.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Yeah, so I've covered you know, this is my twentieth
- 5:36training camp covering the Eagles, and I pretty much feel
- 5:40like I've seen it all.
- 5:41Speaker 1: And what I've.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Seen this year, you know, the offense got off to
- 5:44a nice start in the first two or three days,
- 5:47and the defense came storming back. Defense had some really
- 5:50good practices. But that doesn't mean anything about the regular season.
- 5:54It's just the ebb and flow of training camp. I
- 5:58think Jalen's been good. I think he's been doing a
- 6:01nice job.
- 6:02Speaker 1: What it stuck out to me is in the regular season,
- 6:06his targets tend.
- 6:06Speaker 4: To be pretty top heavy, to like the top three, right,
- 6:09AJ Brown, Davante and got Her, And it'll be like
- 6:12that this year too, as long as those guys are healthy.
- 6:16Speaker 1: But with Davante missing some time, with.
- 6:19Speaker 4: AJ Brown out with the hamstring, he hasn't just per
- 6:22se made one or two receivers as.
- 6:25Speaker 1: His main targets. I think he's done a nice job
- 6:27of spreading the ball.
- 6:28Speaker 4: I think he's developed he is developing a rapport you
- 6:31can see with John Dotson. I've noticed that Johnny Wilson,
- 6:36after a lot, after maybe a rough start to camp,
- 6:39has started to catch the ball a little bit more.
- 6:41And I think in general, Jalen's doing a good job
- 6:43of running the offensive way it should be, making good
- 6:46decisions in the red zone, finding mismatches, getting the ball
- 6:49out of He's weird when he when he does throw
- 6:51the ball, he gets the ball out of his hand quickly.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And then there are the times where he.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Would take a sack in the training camp where he's
- 6:57just not seeing it so or it's just not so.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I think he's been steady.
- 7:02Speaker 4: There really hasn't anything that that popped me. I would
- 7:05say all quarterbacks in total, there just haven't been that
- 7:09many downfield shots. But you know, the defense starts off
- 7:12in a too high look pretty much on every snap,
- 7:14so that.
- 7:15Speaker 1: That doesn't surprise me.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Next week they're gonna hold joint practices with the Browns.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Correct.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Correct, What can we kind of get from those next week?
- 7:25Anything as opposed to Yeah.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I love joint practices.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I mean because the players seem to appreciate it more
- 7:36because they're finally lining up against somebody that isn't their teammate.
- 7:39Speaker 1: They're saying, looks, you know. One of my favorite moments.
- 7:43Speaker 4: And this is just if you're attending or from a
- 7:47personal standpoint. But two years ago when the Eagles went
- 7:50down to Miami, they were supposed.
- 7:51Speaker 1: To have two joint practices in Miami, and we were
- 7:54down there for him. Now, they didn't wind up having
- 7:56a joint practice.
- 7:57Speaker 4: On the second day because the Dolphins got some kind
- 7:59of stomach buff I remember the one of the most
- 8:02amazing things was watching Tyreek Hill practice because say what
- 8:06you want about the guy, but he gives it one
- 8:08hundred every snap in practice. And he opened up even
- 8:13in seven on seven's he toasted Darius Slay and it
- 8:17was it was just it's just an amazing to see
- 8:18like amazing athletes like that up close in person as
- 8:21opposed to just watching them perform on a on a
- 8:24football field. So Miles Garrett will be in here and
- 8:27it'll be really awesome to see, I said, amazing athletes.
- 8:35Garrett will be here getting back and really good Hall
- 8:38of Fame caliber players.
- 8:40Speaker 1: He'll be here going up against Jordan.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Mailatta, right, and trying to think of some other good
- 8:46Browns play centric Tillman. I suppose it will be an
- 8:48interesting matchup for and Yes North Sanders will be here
- 8:51and the three other four other quarterbacks they got, So
- 8:54there is stuff to be glean, Pete, because you'll see
- 8:56them practice against different looks and then you know from
- 9:00an offensive and defensive standpoint, as camp goes on, you
- 9:03start to know what they're gonna do because they're seeing
- 9:05the same things all the time.
- 9:07Speaker 1: We're talking with Jeff P.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Moscher right here on Football at four powered by the
- 9:12Inside the Birds podcast. You can follow Jeff at Jeff P.
- 9:15Moscher on the Twitter x platform. Jeff, I want to
- 9:17get back to the defensive side of things. And Andrew mccooba,
- 9:20he's back at practice as well. You know, he suffered
- 9:24that shoulder injury early on in camp. What can we
- 9:27expect out of him over the next couple of days
- 9:30in the preseason and what does his role look like,
- 9:33especially since he got hurt.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Yeah, kudos to him, Nick for being limited yesterday. It
- 9:39was yesterday, Tuesday, I forget what day it is. Yeah,
- 9:42he gave it his best. You know, he's working through
- 9:44that shoulder injury. He had a nice pass breakup. He
- 9:48quote unquote allowed a touchdown to Dallas Goddard along the
- 9:51back line of an end zone.
- 9:52Speaker 1: But it wasn't a coverage issue.
- 9:54Speaker 4: I mean, Gottard just leaped up in the air, caught
- 9:56it and did Dallas Goddard things that.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I don't really consider that a a bad play on
- 10:01mccuba's part, So I credit him.
- 10:04Speaker 4: He needs to get the practice, he needs the reps.
- 10:07I think he's better for the.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Scheme with his talent then say Sidney Brown might be.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Not that Sydney's played poorly, it's just that they drafted
- 10:14mccouba with that versatility in mind. And I think if
- 10:18he can get these reps right and get back up
- 10:21out there, he'll have a chance to start the season
- 10:24opener next to re Blankenship.
- 10:26Speaker 2: You know, they make the trade for Jacoryan Bennett from
- 10:29the Las Vegas Raiders, adds a little bit more intrigue
- 10:32to that already crowded cornerback room. What does that mean
- 10:35for Eli Rix Because Rick seems like he's had a
- 10:38really good camp. Where does that put him in his
- 10:41positioning on this roster.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it certainly makes it tougher.
- 10:45Speaker 4: If Jacoreyan Bennett doesn't want a starting job and you
- 10:47trade for him, he's probably gonna be your your backup,
- 10:51so that that's tough for Eli, who was a backup
- 10:53outside corner.
- 10:54Speaker 1: It all depends now.
- 10:57Speaker 4: It depends on what happens between the Adori Jackson battle
- 11:00with Killey Ringo. If it Dori does not win it,
- 11:03they don't necessarily have to keep him. You know, they
- 11:05could sunking costs. It wasn't that much to sign him
- 11:07to a one year deal, and then that might be.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Good for Rick. So there's a lot to work itself out.
- 11:13Speaker 4: I think Bennett's gonna get a really good look here
- 11:15over the next few weeks. I talked to some Raiders
- 11:19sources about him. The way they've described.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Him is a little bit like Ringo, Like Mini Ringo.
- 11:24Speaker 4: He's not as big, he's shorter version, but he's he's
- 11:28for being a great athlete, just like Ringo. He's a
- 11:30little stiff hiped and he can be a little grabby, right,
- 11:34And those are the two things that stand out about
- 11:36Ringo obviously enough or coincidentally enough, So we'll have to
- 11:40see how he practices and acclimates the skin. It's not
- 11:43an easy scheme for.
- 11:44Speaker 1: A cornerback to learn overnight with all the.
- 11:48Speaker 4: What we call match carried delivery concepts that are that
- 11:51are involved in it.
- 11:52Speaker 1: So it'll take a little bit here.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and with Bennett, I mean, he didn't play a
- 11:56lot of special teams when he was with the Raiders, right,
- 11:59So were they kind of hoping that Bennett really kind
- 12:03of wins that job and plays very well.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So maybe you have.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Ringo who's really good on special teams they can utilize
- 12:09next year in that role.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Again, not as and they.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Won't have to use as much in the starting role
- 12:14as a corner.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a good point.
- 12:16Speaker 4: He's been in the league two years, Bennett and has
- 12:17not played a lot of special teams. But also he
- 12:19had a shoulder injury. I was told last year that
- 12:22would have prevented him from being able to play on
- 12:25special teams. So we shouldn't just assume that he can't
- 12:28contribute on special teams. But that being said, you know,
- 12:31the shoulder was still side what I understand.
- 12:34Speaker 1: It wasn't like completely fine.
- 12:35Speaker 4: I know he had to pass his physical so he's
- 12:37good there and no practice but I think he's got
- 12:40to work his way just like Campbell, right, John canbolly.
- 12:43I think Bennett's going to work his way through that
- 12:45shoulder to see if he can both play on defense.
- 12:47Speaker 1: End special teams.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Jeff, the idea of Vic Fangio getting fits for his Syston.
- 12:54We know Howie Roseman's a really good GM and he
- 12:56kind of works and operates with this idea that he's
- 12:59got to get guys who are fit for his coaching staff.
- 13:01So getting guys in like Fangio was clearly a big
- 13:04fan of getting Campbell and mcuba. Those were two guys
- 13:07when they drafted, and there' seem to be a lot
- 13:08of excitement in the room. How important is that to
- 13:10have that bond between the general manager side of things
- 13:13and building the team and the coaching staff that's going
- 13:15to take them to the next level.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's important, But I mean it should be pretty
- 13:20clear that how he's gonna go get guys that how
- 13:22he feels are right for the team, and he does
- 13:26factor in coaching. But I will say, and this is
- 13:30not meant to be a criticism, because well it is,
- 13:33but I mean anybody can do this, but like he
- 13:35has definitely signed players who have not fit his coaches
- 13:38schemes and has paid the price for that in the past.
- 13:40Speaker 1: You know it was just two years ago.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Well it was just last year he signed Devin White,
- 13:44who is the type of inside linebacker that Vic Fangio
- 13:47would not want.
- 13:48Speaker 1: To be involved with. And all you know us reporters
- 13:50are here is we're wrong about this because Vic fan.
- 13:53Speaker 4: They wouldn't have made this signing if Vic Fangio didn't
- 13:56sign off on it. Well you heard last week Vic
- 13:58FANGIOE say, watch tape on.
- 14:01Speaker 1: A Dori Jackson. It was a guy that how he
- 14:03wanted to sign it. So good thing for how he is.
- 14:06Speaker 4: He's able to make trades and make other moves that
- 14:08compensate for.
- 14:09Speaker 1: His occasional signings that don't fit.
- 14:11Speaker 4: But I think ordinarily how he does look for players
- 14:15who are going to fit the scheme, and sometimes he
- 14:18just signs players who.
- 14:19Speaker 1: He hopes the scheme will acclimate to or vice versa.
- 14:22And sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Well, one move that maybe might not work out. We'll
- 14:28see how the cutdown day goes. Is Kenyon Green, how
- 14:31has his camp gone. He hasn't really taken a stranglehold
- 14:35on that job yet, So what about Kenyon Green?
- 14:37Speaker 4: Jeff So, going back again to Jimmy Keemski's media poll survey,
- 14:42Kenyon Green got a lot of votes, but it wasn't
- 14:44in the stock up category. It was it was the
- 14:47stock down category not been impressive. It's hard for us
- 14:51to judge offensive linemen in training camp, so you go
- 14:55a little bit on what you're seeing with what teams
- 14:58he's running with. I know that the coaches don't necessarily
- 15:02look at one on ones as an.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Evaluation of what kind of player you are.
- 15:06Speaker 4: It's more for working on technique and you know, preparing
- 15:09for a pass rush versus blocking it.
- 15:11Speaker 1: But man, he got worked over in one on ones
- 15:14by I think Gabe Hall. I forget who I wrote
- 15:17down in my notes.
- 15:18Speaker 4: He just honestly, there's just been nothing that stands out
- 15:21from a positive note on Kenyan Green, and I'm starting
- 15:24to really question whether he's going to make this team.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Wow, Jeff, one last question before we let you go.
- 15:33I do want to ask about the offensive line and
- 15:37kind of the interior offensive line and some of the
- 15:39position battles there. Can you give the audience just kind
- 15:42of where that stands at at this moment.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean there is some competition going on there,
- 15:48but it's pretty.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Cut and tried. The idea that there was ever a competition.
- 15:52Speaker 4: For Tyler Steen between Kenyan Green or anybody else was
- 15:55obviously a farce because he's taken every single first team
- 15:58rep and has on pretty good reviews from his teammates
- 16:01and coaches. So you know who the starting five is
- 16:04right and now it's bound to your backups. If they
- 16:07had to make the fifty three man today, you know
- 16:09Lamb Kendall.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Lamb makes it as your swing tackle.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Matt Pryor's gonna probably be your first right guard off
- 16:16the bench because and he can play a little left
- 16:19guard too, but I think they'd rather have him on
- 16:20the right side.
- 16:21Speaker 1: So that's seven right there. Drew Kendall, I've been pretty impressed.
- 16:26I mean, he's been a center. He's one of the
- 16:28few guys they've got that.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Has actually snapped the football, not name Cam Jurgens. That
- 16:33was an issue for them last year, which is why
- 16:35Dickerson had to play it when Jurgens got hurt. So
- 16:38Drew Kendall's gonna make this team with a lot of doubt,
- 16:40and he's already second team center. So that's eight offensive lineman.
- 16:44And then you've got guys like Darien Kinard. You've got
- 16:48Trevor Keegan who is working as a third team center.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Not great with the snapping right now.
- 16:55Speaker 4: It's not something he's done outside of the Senior Bowl,
- 16:58but he can play left guard. I would probably think
- 17:01he's a good shot.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And then Miles hitting the rookie has looked pretty good.
- 17:05Speaker 4: I would think those three right there have a pretty
- 17:08good shot to make it. So I've just given you
- 17:10now eight o linemen there, and I don't Cameron Williams
- 17:15got a lot of work, which you know they knew
- 17:16that when they drafted him.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Needs a lot of work to do. And am I
- 17:20missing anybody?
- 17:21Speaker 4: And again I'm not sure Kenny and Green is gonna
- 17:24sit there and make it. Brett Toath, he's here for
- 17:26camp every year and he's not on the team every
- 17:29year for a reason.
- 17:30Speaker 1: So that's what you're looking at right now.
- 17:32Speaker 4: And I would say that it's fair to say interior
- 17:35line depth could be an issue just because you.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Don't have a couple of years ago that's some really
- 17:39good offensive lineman.
- 17:41Speaker 4: That could go in there and play and got claimed
