- 0:07SPEAKER_02: Okay, it's happy hour, right?
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: We would be cussing.
- 0:21SPEAKER_02: Hey, it's Deb.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: It's Happy Hour with Deb.
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: Day one, CRS.
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: Feeling the energy?
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, yes.
- 0:27SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: I've got Kimberly Kelly with me today.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Welcome to Happy Hour.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: Hello, thanks for having me.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's my honor.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: It's my honor.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: We were talking, you're a Texas girl.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: I am, yes.
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: Are you still in Texas or are you here in Nashville?
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: No, I live here in Nashville.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: I've been here 12-ish years, 14, but the two before I made the official move, I was going back and forth between New Bromfels, Texas, and here.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: But I'm from just outside of Waco.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: Waco is the coolest city.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: Is it not?
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: I love it too.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: I love being so centrally located.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I'm booking some shows with a friend of mine right now.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: She's from Arkansas.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And she's like, okay, if we play in Houston, then can we go to St.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Angela?
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I was like, well, maybe not, because we'd have to drive six hours, but anywhere on that I-35 corridor, and then like we can get to Houston, DFW, Austin.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: You know what's so funny?
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: I don't people that aren't from Texas don't get that like it's an hour to the HEV.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: I mean, like in Philly, if something's an hour, we get on a plane.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: You're on, oh, and you're also in a different state, probably by then.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: I'm totally in a different state, but you're in traffic in your rush because that's the East Coast living.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: That's the feel of the East Coast.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: Tell me about your music.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: How'd you get caught up in this fabulous place?
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Well, um, you know, being from Texas, I feel like you're surrounded by it everywhere.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: There's places to play, there's music going on, it's on the radio.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: They encourage you.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: There's Texas music separate from even just top 40.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So if you're you don't really know any different, um, I went to a community college.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: I told my mom I could sing when I was younger, and then she was working at a college in Waco and she said there's a commercial music program here.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: And I thought, you can't go to college for music.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: No, uh MCC, McClennan Community College.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: I did spend one semester at Baylor.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Did you?
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: And I pulled every prank known to man while I was there.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: They probably kicked you out.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm at two C's and I wasn't gonna be able to rush, so I was like, I can't go here anymore.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: But still take C's at Baylor.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: I feel like it worked out as it should because then my mom was like, Well, come to MCC, and they have this program, and that's kind of like what broke it wide open for me because I joined the Texas uh I joined the country band there and met the players that would later become a part of my band, went to songwriting class, and then once I graduated from that program, I just started playing in Texas.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Wow, and then I have a sister, she um had signed a record deal uh about 14 years ago, and she brought me to town and I sang backup for her.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: So that's what got me here.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: What do you think about living here?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: I wish you were a little bit closer.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: I wish Dallas were in Tennessee, you know, like I AJ says.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: I kind of I know I wish it were a little bit closer.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: I can't even hear the shoes in Texas.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: I get so I know I know there is there people from Texas are the most humble, more we're proud.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: Yes, we're so proud.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: Yes, and that's amazing.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: So you've been living out here, writing your own music, yes, performing a lot?
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, um, not as much.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: I've been um I also have a degree in speech therapy.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: So I was working, I I signed a record deal, I was signed a Toby Keith label, and then you love that.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: I know he passed.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: I know, so things kind of slowed down for a minute.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Um I had a baby.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: My husband also is my husband is a great hit songwriter.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: He's at three number ones.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: What?
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: So I can't escape this place even if I wanted to, but um, so I've I had a baby, I've created I've made a record, and I'm getting ready to get back out on the road.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: What's the most exciting part?
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: Because women right now in country music are kicking ass.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Doesn't it make sense?
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: I love you said ass too.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's a podcast.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: It's happy hour, right?
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: We would be cousins.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: We get a drink, we get yeah, we're well, we're not sanctioned, so we can we can say all we want, which is the only last thing left in the world, I think.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Right like that.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: Um but they are women in country music are kicking ass.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: It is a good time to be a woman in country music.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: My husband actually wrote Dandelion for Ella Langley with Ella Langley, yes.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: He's right in the middle of it.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: He's written for Laney and does he perform too or no, no, he's just he did, he's from Minnesota.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: I like to joke, that's the only thing wrong with him.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: Right exactly, right.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: That's what people say about Philadelphia.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: Um when you say you're from Philadelphia, round you people look at you like you're from Kuwait.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: But he um he's he's written for all of them, and he doesn't perform though.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: He's he performed back in Minnesota.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Okay, but then now he's just been concentrating on his songwriting.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: How old is your baby?
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: She's 13 months.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Uh a year old.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: I'll show you a pic in a minute.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: What's her name?
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Merritt.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Merritt, um shout outs to me.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: Merritt Lorraine.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: Is this your first?
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: How is it how's that?
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: It's wild.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, like, how are you?
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: We might be one and done, I gotta be honest with you.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, you do?
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: I've got some steps.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Oh god, okay.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: I only have I just, you know, it's it's amazing.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: It totally changes your life, but then in some ways it doesn't.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Um, we're older parents, um, and I still think about myself constantly and like how I can further my career.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: So you don't You have to.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: It doesn't it ch I it's just another part of me.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: I love her so much though, and I'm so thankful that and it you get nothing against anyone who doesn't have kids, but once you have a kid, you're in this club.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: You're this this unspoken like I will jack you up.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: I get it, girl.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: My kid the wrong, I will jack you up.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: And you just when you see other moms, you're just like, you don't even have to say it.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: I'm on the same page as you.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: I know where you're at.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: I became a grandmother in 2020.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: You look amazing.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: You don't look like you could be a grandma.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: So I got two more on the way.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: Grandkids on the way.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: Love it.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: Like you, obviously, we love our kids, right?
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: When you see them step into the role of having kids, it is beautiful.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's I'm so proud to watch them raise children.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Well, because that is a reflection on you and how you raise them.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: These are step kids, so I don't know.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: But still, I'm sure you had a Yeah, but it is so like, it's so beautiful.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: Like, it brings me to tears to watch them raise her name is Lainey.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Oh, cute, right?
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: They named her after Lainey Wilson because then they were getting the ultrasound that was the music was playing, and they're and she's just the best.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, she started walking at like 10 months old, and like we like we do this a lot, yay!
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's what Merritt does.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: She's clapping, we tell her to make biscuits, and she'll go like this.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Does she know how to say mama?
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: She's going ma and bab da.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: Does she walk yet?
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: No, she's getting real close though.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Keep her down, push her down.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Because when they walk, they walk out.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: It's all over, right?
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: And then it's like every and you know, when it's not, it's you are a kid.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: But like I only have one, and I remember being like, everything was padded, everything was like now.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: I look back, I'm like, I was a maniac.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: Because you know, you wait so long in life to to produce this human being.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Yes, you're like, if anything happens on your watch, oh, of course.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Mom in the bad mom club.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: I will say it's funny, even to just watch my husband Brett, just do those the thing that dads do where they toss him up.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I know, I know.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Don't drop her like that, baby, jack.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: It's just funny to look at her sometimes.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: We left to go to an event last night, and our neighbor had come over to watch her, and she likes to sit at the front door, and we drove by, you know, we look up and she's just this little being.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: And I was like, that thing came out of my body.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: Here's the like advice I can give you for the the 13 months like it goes bang, all of a sudden you're at their wedding, or like it's just over.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: So, like, soak up every even the minutes that like you think this is gonna be the worst day month, soak up every minute.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: Because especially in the career you're in, like yes, you guys are hustling and going and moving and everything else, but what a lucky little girl to come into this incredible family.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: She's already had a co-write with Kix Brooks.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, I love that.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: I totally love that.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: He wanted to write with Brett and I, and they he was just like, bring the baby.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: So does your husband write for you?
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Yes, some.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: He um, you know, he's writing and he's get trying to get as many cuts and things on the radio as he can, but then when it's time to write for me, he doesn't write with me every day because I'm not always in a writing season, but absolutely he did produce my project.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: So even if he he'll joke with you, you know, he produced my project, but he only got two songs on it.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, not at all.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: It's not about you, sir.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Did you ever see the little um little Instagram thing where they're trying to get the little girl in the car seat and the father's like in a heavy?
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: She's like, no, thank you.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: She's like, worry about yourself.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: That's what he shout at.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, worry about yourself.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: Worry about yourself.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: I think that's amazing.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: Are you performing?
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm getting back out on the road.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: We're actually about to go to Sweden, and I know it's wild.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: I've never been.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Um, it's like a Nashville nights thing.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Um shopping.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: We're going for I think six or seven days.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Brett's going with me to this one.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Well, um Are you taking the baby?
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: No, she's gonna stay with my mom.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: At our house with my mom.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Um in her control baby.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: In her, yeah, yeah.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna take them out.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: They're like other people.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: And don't take them out there, they don't know how to act.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Right, and then in I'm gonna be doing some shows in Texas, and then we're also going to uh Denmark in the fall.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: So, yes, it's you're crushing you! I'm trying.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: I'm so proud of you.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: Thanks.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: What's your favorite part about this journey?
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: Talking to people.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and just the interaction.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Me too.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: I'm such a people girl.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: I've been two weddings of strangers I've met on planes.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, stop.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: That's incredible.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: I I love people.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: I that's another level.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: It's a I know, I know.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: My husband's gonna be.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Two strangers' weddings of people you met on planes.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: I had to fly to the weddings.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: This is we just became best friends.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: But you know, this is what I thought.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: If you I feel honored that you would ask me to be at the most important day, of course I'm going.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: First of all, who doesn't love a party?
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: And second of all, if you feel that I'm honored to go.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: Like, what a beautiful.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: I walked into one and the bride introduced me to her mother, and she goes, You have to be Deb.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh my god, that's so funny.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: She's like, Well, your ears ringing.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I talk to every stranger in the world.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: You can't, you can't put me on a bus or nothing.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: I tell you.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: But it's a great thing, right?
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: To love humans.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: It's the interaction.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: It's totally.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: And I miss it.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: Like, and you know, when you do what you do, you need what do you do for you for downtime?
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, I like to ride horses.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, do you guys have horses?
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: I have a horse.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Um, she it's actually in Louisiana, so I go down there with one of my best friends, and I'll take Merritt, and I have a border collie named Reba.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Reba.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: So I'll take the two of them down.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Um, I like to ride, um you know, I like to.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: We did a remodel and addition on our home, and I like to redecorate our home, so still kind of be creative.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: But probably the time when I actually check out would probably be riding horses.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's good because it's important to get this balance.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm sorry.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: I thought that one like, was that us?
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: We didn't do it.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: It wasn't the pants, and we didn't do it, whatever it is that happened.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: Um, that's amazing.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: Where's your favorite place to play?
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Green Hall in Texas, New Bromfels.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: Um, I lived down there for four years and I just love it.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: It's that whole area south of Austin.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: Um just and I not just Green Hall, any honky tonk in Texas.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: It just my husband has friends, and it was his friend from college and he remarried, and she goes, What's a honky tonk?
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: I'm like, girl, you gotta experience it.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: You can't explain it.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: If there's an armadillo race at a honky tonk, even better, you have struck a goal.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, we love Billy Bobs because I go back.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: My family's from Frisco, so we go back all the time.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: But a honky tongue is, and that's like a what a cool place to be.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Even the like the smaller one, because Billy Bob's is huge.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: And I've played there and I love it.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: But I mean I love that.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: You're a wall of fame.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: No, not there.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm open for Drake Milligan.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Oh I haven't put my hands on the wall yet.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: You will?
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: I would love to.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: You'll send them to me.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: I want to see those pictures.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: You can come.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: I would.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: How about that?
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: You're coming.
- 13:12unknown: I'm in.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: I would love to come.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: I mean a dance hall that's like hot, doesn't have any AC and like the woods creaking underneath the ball.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: Like literally in August.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Like in the hill country.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: But the beer is cold.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: And that's really matter.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: I feel like you're just enjoying this ride.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: So I'm trying.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: I'm trying.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: There's definitely times.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: How was this your first CRS or no?
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: No, it is my first media day at CRS.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: I've been and you know, you know, done the schmooosin with the radio, I've done a radio tour and all that stuff.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: But I haven't had a back-to-back um, I've done something similar to this at CMA Fest.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: CMA Fest, but not at CRS.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: What do you think?
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: It's great.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: It's amazing, right?
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I love it.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: There's pictures of rock stars all over the place.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and you're walking by people and you're like, oh my god, I'm a fan of that person.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: That's just like come so real experience, right?
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: It is a little um, you know, we can hear people playing in the background, and as being musically inclined, I'm like, who's singing?
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: What is that?
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: It is a little like you're immediately like, I want to go see who that is.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: Oh, you just get overwhelmed sonically, but it's it's just the energy, it's fun.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: It's really my favorite week.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: If you're in media, this is a great week.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Like the energy here and and hearing everybody's story is such an incredible.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Who inspires you now?
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: Like when you sit down to write or when you hear a song, like who is that person?
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: I'm still inspired by some of the classics, you know, like Ruben McIntyre and Patty Loveless, and then just the actual people around me, and I'm kind of inspired by myself, you know.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: Because I feel like I've written for ages, but becoming a mom and getting married, and you know, going through life, having serious jobs, you know, ups and downs, like the older you get, the more experience you get, and you're like, I actually have something to sing about now.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: I know, it's so true.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: So God bless the young ones that belled out these like incredible songs.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: No, it's great.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: I was that person at some point, but I just feel like for me personally, I've my writing is probably and my artistry is getting even deeper now because I've I have no choice.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: You're like fine line.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: You're only getting better with age.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: What's the five-year plan?
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: Tell me, we're gonna be interviewing you again in five years.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: We're gonna play Billy Bobs.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: What?
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: We're gonna put our hands on the wall.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Let's take the whole show to Billy Bobs with us.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: Um I'm gonna make sure there's some armadillo races.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: I had to explain to somebody.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: I'm not playing unless there's an armadillo race.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: And she's big deal, so you get those armadillos.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: People think it's hysterical and like they armadillo race in ticks.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: They're like, really?
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: I would just hope that I'm touring and people are coming.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and people are gonna come back.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: No, but I mean like, yeah, that's what I mean, like just having my fan base.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just you know, that's just playing shows and and just continuing to get this interaction with people.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: How much do your fans mean to you?
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: A lot.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: Because uh as a musician, sometimes you feel like quitting every other day.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: But then somebody will come in and be like, But we're from Texas, we don't raise it.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: We don't know how to quit.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: We don't know, we rail raise quits in Texas.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: So they just they're the people that keep you going.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: And they don't care as much about the things that you get in your head and think matter.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, we're so we your fans would never treat you as rough as you are on your.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like when I first started the show, I overanalyzed every single one.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: And my husband's like, you're gonna be able to do it.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: People don't care.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: He's like, You're they would watch you, he's like, You're funny as shit.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: You're gonna be successful.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: And I think we put that pressure on ourselves.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: But like, I never wanted it to take away the experience.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, imagine sitting in my chair and meeting people like you.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's a really incredible experience to have, you know.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: So I always like try to remember just to be present.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: Because it's gonna go.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: And the same thing with you know, being a mom, you know, you've got to be present.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: You think your daughter will follow in your legacy?
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: I don't think how could she not?
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: Who knows?
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: You know, um, I was talking to Adam Sanders a minute ago, and he's not having a child or anything right now.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: But he's a he's that's new breaking news here.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: He's thinking in the future, you know.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Um, oh no, he was talking about his nephew.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: That's why we were talking about it.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: He, you know, um we were because he was asking if Merritt, you know, likes music or whatever, and I said, I've kind of been thinking, you know, like maybe Brett and I are here right now because we're gonna have a Linda Davis Hillary Scott moment.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: We're like she's gonna become like this huge star or something, but you know, we laid the foundation for it.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: The legacy piece.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: And he was saying that because his little nephew, he said his brother can't carry a tune in a bucket, but his brother will send him videos of his nephew, and he's like, maybe I'm inspiring my nephew, and then he's gonna be some great star.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: So there's just there's no way.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: I'm we're obviously gonna present it to her.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Um well she's gonna grow up watching you.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: She's already had a co-wright with Kids Brooks.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, I mean, snaps, ladies, snaps for that.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, damn, I would take that opportunity.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: But like, what how could she not?
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: Are you gonna have more kids?
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: Ask me in a year.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: When she's two.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: When she's two.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: Let me get through the we'll go out for a drink first and then I'll ask you.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: We'll get a martini in you, and then we'll be like, yeah, I'm gonna do it.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: If I said right now I'm good with one, but um, and it's funny because I always thought I wanted a boy, and then I would have a little girl.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: I love having a little girl.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: Because even my husband is like, I can do little boy things with her.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: I can take her fishing, hunting, absolutely and she can still play with dolls and get dressed in both worlds.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: So are holidays now that you have a baby like so incredibly still.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: They're getting fun, yes, because we're starting to look at all the different traditions that you start with kids, you know, like we'll be doing Elf on the Shelf and all that stuff.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: Like Easter bunny?
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: Like you got some too, you gotta get on that.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: I want her to crawl this year to get the because she can't walk.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: But I'm just gonna need to walk this year, it's too early.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: No, I'm gonna put some in the street.
- 19:30SPEAKER_02: She's gonna be walking the rest of her life.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: My daughter was a late walker, and I was totally cool with it.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and everyone's like, because you carry her around.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: I'm like, but I love her more than anything in this world.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: And there's gonna be a time where I'm not gonna be able to carry her around.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna carry her around as much as I damn well can.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: I think there's nothing more powerful to women than having it's she's yours.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: She's like yours.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: She's made of my body.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: She's made of your body, right?
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: How was the pregnancy?
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: Not good.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's why I never said.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm like, I don't know about a second one.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: It was rough.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: It was it was a struggle.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: But I made it.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: I almost had preclampsia at the age.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: I had preclampsia.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: My daughter was born three pounds.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: She was little, she was how they did an amnio.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Her surfactant was good.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: They're like, let's go.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: My blood pressure had gotten so high.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: And you know what?
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: She truly was.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: And I didn't, she was my only child, right?
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: So I didn't know.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: I didn't know all my friends will be like, oh my god.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: Like almost like she was like a sheep oven roaster fryer that you got on sale.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: She was so little, but to me, she was perfectly normal.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: Like that's all I ever realized.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: You know, but it's so funny the reactions.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: Are your parents involved?
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: Is your family involved?
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: Uh yes.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: My mom, my dad passed a few years ago.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: I'm so sorry.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: It's okay.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: Um and my mom is.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: She's back in Texas, and and my stepdad is too.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Uh she comes up about every six weeks.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: So she's still in Texas.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I go to Texas like every six weeks.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: I have a younger niece and nephew, and uh it was always really important for me.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: My brother and I are very close, and it was always important for me to see them grow.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: And I didn't want them to be like, I got this crazy ant in Philadelphia.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Like I want them to know you want a huge part of my life.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: And when people share their children with you, you take everything you can get.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: You take every single thing you can get.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Can I ask you one more question?
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: Would you come back and do a full hour with me sometime?
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: We can talk pants.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm gonna have those.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: We're gonna get you these pants.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go pull the receipt and mail it to you.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: It was so funny.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: These they were like the hit of New Year's Eve.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: It was like the complete strangers were walking up to me.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: They're like, I love the pants, I love the pants.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: And then my neighbor, Allie, shout out to you, girl, I love you.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: My neighbor who helped me pack came over and she's like, Deb's the only chick I know that has the balls to mix rhinestones and suedes.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: You can mix whatever you want.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: Hey, men, this is America.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: You've seen Briley King?
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: She mixes it all.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: All the time.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: I think fashion is really an extension of your personality.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: And I you're rocking the bells.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: Thanks.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: You look so beautiful and all the black.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: It has been an honor to meet you.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: I can't wait to follow your career and see what's going on.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: And please come back and let us know.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: I would love to.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: Oh, we'll have don't worry.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: Nobody, it's like the Hotel California.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: Everybody comes back.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: Nobody gets too.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: Nobody leaves.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: It becomes a family, then two people come co-hosts, and then all of a sudden we've got 20 people having dinner.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, I like it.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: Like it's the happy hour family.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: If I weren't already married, I'd invite you to the wedding.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, there you go.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: And I would go.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: I would go with these pants on, which would be better.
