- 0:07Speaker 2: It's fabulous. Thanks so much. You guys are headed to
- 0:10Speaker 2: Tasmania for Dark Mofo.
- 0:12Speaker 3: What drew you to say yes to such a uniquely
- 0:14Speaker 3: atmospheric and provocative festival.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I think that's exactly that. It seems. It was a
- 0:22Speaker 1: pretty pretty like twenty three hours around the world.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Are you excited for that flight? No?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't blame you.
- 0:39Speaker 3: And you guys have been to Australia before. Do you
- 0:42Speaker 3: have any standout memories or favorite cities from past tours?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I just want to say that.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Very Yeah.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Also, it looks I've never been to Tasmania either, but
- 1:02Speaker 3: it looks beautiful and very cold.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I was Tasmania once twelve.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, the entire audience.
- 1:16Speaker 1: With a concentrator, So that was the weird experience.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Are you kidding?
- 1:28Speaker 4: We played two pictures of beer on the bar.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Everybody knew.
- 1:43Speaker 2: That's insane, period tree. Well, I hope that doesn't happen
- 1:49Speaker 2: as chart.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Weird.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah. True. And well you're said at.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Dark Mofo feature anything unique or tailored to the mood
- 2:00Speaker 3: the festival.
- 2:04Speaker 1: It's hard to say, because not exactly. I mean, it's
- 2:09Speaker 1: very lucky time.
- 2:11Speaker 4: That we haven't played it played in Australia certainly never played.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And probably some songs that we haven't played years.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Oh wicked.
- 2:24Speaker 3: That's awesome and I guess as well, you guys will
- 2:27Speaker 3: be playing some of your newer.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Stuff absolutely wicked.
- 2:31Speaker 3: And you guys have evolved your sounds dramatically over the years.
- 2:35Speaker 3: How do you decide when to push into new sonic
- 2:38Speaker 3: territory versus refining your existing style?
- 2:44Speaker 1: I would like to think that we do is push forward.
- 2:49Speaker 4: And any refinements that you have on you older were
- 2:55Speaker 4: older styles. That's just sort of the nature. Have to
- 3:02Speaker 4: build a lot of foundations. But I think I think
- 3:04Speaker 4: for the most interesting getting yourselves.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Not only the right capacity, the applications of course.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yeah, so to keep building on what you guys have
- 3:22Speaker 3: already done.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's awesome.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And your album artwork is iconic and deeply tied to
- 3:30Speaker 3: each records identity. How does your visual process intertwine with songwriting?
- 3:38Speaker 4: So sometimes you come third Records and it's currently sort of.
- 3:46Speaker 1: A replace Stone like Stone was master?
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, definitely, And then so is the album from
- 4:02Speaker 3: second obviously to the songs or are you guys inspired
- 4:06Speaker 3: by the album art.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Is a reflection on occasion?
- 4:16Speaker 4: I think some of our much older some of the
- 4:19Speaker 4: old directors Yellow Green, for instance, I think there was
- 4:24Speaker 4: there was a little bit more two things going on
- 4:26Speaker 4: at once the case.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and expanding on that as well, you guys
- 4:35Speaker 3: have named albums after colors.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Was that conscious conceptual path from the beginning?
- 4:43Speaker 1: It was in the beginning, yet the initial idea was.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Create a series of records based on the physical.
- 4:57Speaker 1: As we finished that, we sort of.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 3: And has touring and creating music for over two decades
- 5:09Speaker 3: changed the way you've used success or artistic fulfillment.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I don't hope. It's really just been my entire.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, any anyone else they have.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Music and in the ways it's really important.
- 5:41Speaker 4: I don't think any of us say that, granted, and
- 5:43Speaker 4: you know it's you know, the yeah, you have to
- 5:49Speaker 4: do that.
- 5:49Speaker 1: So yeah, that's.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Fine.
- 5:56Speaker 3: And how do you guys personally keep your creative fire alive,
- 6:00Speaker 3: whether musically, visually or spiritually.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Frustration that's a good one.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Yeah, you can work something, yeah, definitely.
- 6:25Speaker 3: And you guys have toured with some huge names. Do
- 6:28Speaker 3: you have any stories you'd like to share being on
- 6:31Speaker 3: tour with some of these other bands?
- 6:36Speaker 2: Sure, that's all right.
- 6:41Speaker 3: You keep your secrets and mental health and endurance are
- 6:45Speaker 3: major topics in.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Heavy music circles these days.
- 6:47Speaker 3: How do you guys stay grounded amidst the intensity we
- 6:53Speaker 3: work out?
- 6:57Speaker 2: Really, you guys look at it, you're very buff.
- 7:03Speaker 6: Love you.
- 7:04Speaker 4: We aren't risk for complements that genuinely, you know, I
- 7:09Speaker 4: thank you.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I don't have to miss sision that.
- 7:16Speaker 4: We're on stage for an hour or two every day
- 7:19Speaker 4: and then there's another twenty two hours to continue with, so.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Are you know?
- 7:25Speaker 4: I think sepal efforts in order to keep our minds.
- 7:29Speaker 4: We try to keep our bodies in order to you know,
- 7:33Speaker 4: in order to be able to perform our music the
- 7:37Speaker 4: way that we want to with toughly and passionate demand.
- 7:43Speaker 1: We have to. You have to.
- 7:45Speaker 4: You have to look for your mind and your mind
- 7:47Speaker 4: under shared are constantly aligned that.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 7:54Speaker 3: And you know downtime, do you guys all spend a
- 7:57Speaker 3: lot of time together still or you like get away
- 7:59Speaker 3: from me.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Maybe furs.
- 8:10Speaker 4: More and still moving hang out with each other? Are
- 8:17Speaker 4: just getting, you know, getting at least you know, not.
- 8:23Speaker 1: The sacy now each other for sure.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Frequently I would say like I don't know, yeah, last
- 8:37Speaker 4: the time.
- 8:38Speaker 1: By these guys.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Yea, but yeah, yeah, yeah, there's no We're not trying
- 8:49Speaker 4: to break up.
- 8:53Speaker 1: New York. They was really yeah, like there's like an
- 8:57Speaker 1: unspoken like.
- 9:00Speaker 7: Don't yeah yeah, like okay, well like what we're like
- 9:10Speaker 7: to hang out?
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah yeah. I think it's healthy to have some time apart.
- 9:15Speaker 1: We will do because when we're on Joy, spend twenty
- 9:17Speaker 1: four hours.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Ago all the time.
- 9:25Speaker 3: You sorry your life. Shows are emotionally intense and immersive.
- 9:28Speaker 3: What do you hope people walk away with after seeing
- 9:31Speaker 3: a Baroness set?
- 9:38Speaker 2: Guaranteed?
- 9:41Speaker 4: I think you want to hope that everybody you know,
- 9:44Speaker 4: I know that our bands with the music, I know
- 9:49Speaker 4: where there's a you know, there canopy a emotional between
- 9:57Speaker 4: our fans and our state performance. So are invested by that.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I hope that whatever is that they're trying to get
- 10:07Speaker 4: out of the show, that we give them a place
- 10:08Speaker 4: where that you know, where they where they have experience.
- 10:13Speaker 4: It's just a recive of energy. If somebody wants to say,
- 10:18Speaker 4: or you know, first.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Day, somebody wants to sit there and really pay attention
- 10:22Speaker 1: to what we do as musicians, since.
- 10:27Speaker 4: We must the technical aspects of perfect I think that
- 10:32Speaker 4: this band.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Is a good one for both sorts of things.
- 10:35Speaker 4: There's both exchange of energy, and we also write very technical,
- 10:41Speaker 4: technical music, so there's there's also about details.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
- 10:46Speaker 3: So they're sort of something for every fan there, I
- 10:48Speaker 3: guess is what you're trying to say. Yeah, yeah, and
- 10:53Speaker 3: do you really feel the fans energy as well when
- 10:55Speaker 3: you're up on stage?
- 10:59Speaker 4: I address the show is not whether or not.
- 11:04Speaker 1: The show is.
- 11:07Speaker 4: What shows and what are they? What are they demanding
- 11:12Speaker 4: as desisions and where do they allow us? I think
- 11:15Speaker 4: that's the interesting thing. Yeah, because the Case show is
- 11:23Speaker 4: basically acal where we just go through the motions.
- 11:27Speaker 8: I think really so after a while, Yeah, yeah, their
- 11:45Speaker 8: reactions very interesting.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I never thought about it like that. That's yeah.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You know the other thing that is taking sports where
- 11:53Speaker 1: it's like play the man on the ball.
- 11:56Speaker 4: Think, I think that's that's how I like to think
- 11:58Speaker 4: that we're not playing plan the audience giving us, giving
- 12:06Speaker 4: us what we need.
- 12:08Speaker 1: It dictates you know what kinds of.
- 12:13Speaker 4: You know, what sort of temple dynasty? I mean, I
- 12:22Speaker 4: think those positions feel this way. But the crowd is everything.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, great answer. And you've cultivated a deeply loyal
- 12:31Speaker 3: fan base. What's one thing you wish more people knew
- 12:34Speaker 3: or understood about Baroness.
- 12:47Speaker 1: That's a good question.
- 12:48Speaker 3: I'm want to get the juicy answers out of you.
- 13:03Speaker 1: That's right.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Like that, there's the game in the modern music can
- 13:12Speaker 4: be this older explanation, that can be this sort of
- 13:17Speaker 4: exposure that you get to the behind the scenes.
- 13:21Speaker 9: I think sometimes runs counter to the artists themselves. So
- 13:28Speaker 9: all the chests that we are doing, any musicians.
- 13:32Speaker 4: There were, I think it's it's kind of an important thing.
- 13:39Speaker 4: So we're you know, like closed off or anything like that,
- 13:42Speaker 4: but you think it's nothing that it's not matter.
- 13:47Speaker 3: What have you guys been listening to on the tour
- 13:49Speaker 3: bus lightly, any guilty pleasure tracks or unexpected genres.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Really? Mm hmm, okay, well that is a surprise.
- 14:06Speaker 1: There was also we had breakfast today and there was
- 14:08Speaker 1: a juke box are Hide They were beautiful.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I remember what we were talking about.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Before with bands, you know, Explod showing so much of
- 14:30Speaker 3: the behind the scenes and all that. And I think
- 14:31Speaker 3: you have a really good point because one of my
- 14:33Speaker 3: favorite bands ever, they've been doing a lot of behind
- 14:36Speaker 3: the scenes touring camera blog sort of thing. Whilst I
- 14:41Speaker 3: love it, it is a bit like there's nothing left
- 14:43Speaker 3: to explore there with them. It's like they've shown us everything.
- 14:48Speaker 3: So I think that's a really good point you made
- 14:50Speaker 3: about keeping some things, you know, hidden.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely, I don't know. Yeah. And last question,
- 15:13Speaker 2: you get to curate a dream festival lineup? Three bands
- 15:16Speaker 2: alive or dead? Who's playing? Yes of us? Yes, okay, that's.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Nice.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Yes, yeah yeah, Wicked. So we've got the Queen, We've
- 15:50Speaker 2: got King Floyd two more.
- 15:55Speaker 6: So okay, okay, we're rocking with it.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Yeah, Wicked, Wicked, what a That is amazing. Guys, Thank
- 16:17Speaker 3: you so much for you know, I did, I did,
- 16:26Speaker 3: That's my own. Thank you guys so much for talking
- 16:31Speaker 3: with me today. I'm sorry it was a bit cutting
- 16:34Speaker 3: in and out.
- 16:34Speaker 2: There, but thank you guys so much. We can't wait
- 16:36Speaker 2: to see you here in June. Thank you, thank you,
- 16:40Speaker 2: thank you,
