- 1:28Speaker 2: be a little bit better as far as the traffic goes,
- 1:31Speaker 2: but if you feel otherwise, you can, of course let
- 1:34Speaker 2: me know about it. It was kind of a kind
- 1:38Speaker 2: of difficult getting into town yesterday, but things seem to
- 1:41Speaker 2: be going a little bit better to the smooth leavement,
- 1:43Speaker 2: you know. We'll get into that a little bit later
- 1:44Speaker 2: on the Chief of staff of the Mayor's Office, Matt Sutton,
- 1:47Speaker 2: is going to join us to talk about that. On
- 1:49Speaker 2: the way, I want to welcome into the show now,
- 1:52Speaker 2: Attorney General JB. Mccusky. How are you, my friend?
- 1:54Speaker 4: I'm great, Dave. How are you?
- 1:56Speaker 2: You want to tell you want to talk about the
- 1:57Speaker 2: conversation we were having off the air.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Yeah, apparently there are no more words you can't say.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Are not that part, which part, Oh gizmo button? Yeah, yeah,
- 2:06Speaker 4: there is a button next to me that says gizmo button.
- 2:09Speaker 4: And I wasn't allowed to push it, And as a
- 2:12Speaker 4: forty three year old want to be six year old,
- 2:14Speaker 4: it was very difficult for me to comply with that request.
- 2:17Speaker 2: There are things in the studio that we still don't
- 2:19Speaker 2: know what they are. And mister mccusky said, this is
- 2:22Speaker 2: the kind of serious conversations we had before we go
- 2:24Speaker 2: on the air. The Attorney General the State of West
- 2:26Speaker 2: Virginia said, what does this button do that says gizmo?
- 2:28Speaker 2: I said, I really don't know. Ryan knows what it does.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I don't know what it does.
- 2:33Speaker 4: You would have slapped my hand had you been sitting case.
- 2:35Speaker 2: It may have activated balloons to come from the I
- 2:39Speaker 2: will will never know.
- 2:39Speaker 4: But there's a monkey with headphones on it, and I
- 2:41Speaker 4: want to.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Push the butt slipperly a monkey with I never noticed that, Ryan,
- 2:44Speaker 2: there's literally a monkey with headphones on the picture. It's gizmo.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Uh you know, I just here we go the serious business,
- 2:52Speaker 4: serious business, right, we are going to get to some
- 2:54Speaker 4: serious business.
- 2:55Speaker 2: So what have you been up to lately?
- 2:56Speaker 4: Well, yesterday I was one of the keynote speakers at
- 2:59Speaker 4: the met Association. And for those out there, there's two
- 3:02Speaker 4: kinds of coal. There's met coal, which we used to
- 3:04Speaker 4: make steel, and steam coal. And in West Virginia we
- 3:07Speaker 4: have a specific association just for the met coal producers.
- 3:10Speaker 4: And I got to tell you, the vibes were high,
- 3:14Speaker 4: and I think you know, one of the key messages
- 3:17Speaker 4: I received from there is that coal is back, and
- 3:20Speaker 4: people are real bullish about the market going forward, and
- 3:22Speaker 4: they feel really good about steel making and manufacturing, not
- 3:25Speaker 4: just in America but right here in West Virginia. It's exciting.
- 3:28Speaker 2: And that's interesting that you said that, because I've heard
- 3:30Speaker 2: other people in the coal industry saying, but now there's
- 3:32Speaker 2: obviously a little bit the thing about the coal industry
- 3:35Speaker 2: as well as the steel industry and these other industries.
- 3:37Speaker 2: As we've always heard, it's on its way back, and
- 3:40Speaker 2: sometimes it has. These markets are all about ebbs and
- 3:44Speaker 2: flows and tides and whatever they go up, they go down, whatever,
- 3:47Speaker 2: But it does seem to be a little bit more
- 3:49Speaker 2: simp a sense of optimism this.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Thirty years ago there were ninety four thousand coal miners
- 3:53Speaker 4: in this country, and today there are forty five thousand,
- 3:56Speaker 4: and that is a problem not just for our energy production,
- 3:59Speaker 4: it's or our manufacturing and steel production. And I think
- 4:02Speaker 4: we have a new pathway forward that has a more
- 4:04Speaker 4: rational energy policy coming out of Washington, and the industry
- 4:08Speaker 4: seeing that and they understand that, you know, natural resources
- 4:11Speaker 4: and carbon based fuels are not just part of our
- 4:14Speaker 4: president but will be a huge part of our future
- 4:16Speaker 4: moving forward. And it's exciting to see.
- 4:19Speaker 2: There been any concerns out of you and your office
- 4:23Speaker 2: as it comes to doze and things that makes we
- 4:25Speaker 2: saw what happen with Niosh in Morgantown, I mean, any
- 4:29Speaker 2: concerns from you and them.
- 4:30Speaker 4: So we actually have a legacy case that we are
- 4:34Speaker 4: in trial in Lincoln County on about dust masks, and
- 4:39Speaker 4: so you know, when we saw the Niosh stuff, you know,
- 4:41Speaker 4: the president has broad authority to do these things, whether
- 4:44Speaker 4: you like it or not. There's a kind of lawfair
- 4:48Speaker 4: happening that I don't believe liberals will like to have
- 4:51Speaker 4: happened the next time they have a president in office, right.
- 4:53Speaker 4: I mean, if it is your argument that the president
- 4:56Speaker 4: doesn't have control over the executive branch and how it
- 4:58Speaker 4: spends its money, certainly that's going to make it much
- 5:02Speaker 4: more difficult. And you know, we know there's going to
- 5:04Speaker 4: be a Democrat president at some point.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Do I know when that's going to be.
- 5:08Speaker 4: I don't know when that's going to be either. It
- 5:09Speaker 4: doesn't look like it's going to be in the gravely
- 5:10Speaker 4: near future. But you know, I think one of the
- 5:15Speaker 4: key lessons I learned from the legislator, and this is
- 5:17Speaker 4: something that my mom taught me before she passed, is
- 5:19Speaker 4: that every piece of legislation and every action you take
- 5:21Speaker 4: in government, you ought to look through the eyes of
- 5:23Speaker 4: your opponents and assume that that same tactic and that
- 5:25Speaker 4: same thing is going to be used against a good point.
- 5:28Speaker 4: And you know it is elections have consequences, and you
- 5:32Speaker 4: know the president is allowed to do those things whether
- 5:35Speaker 4: you like it or not. And you know, I'm glad
- 5:37Speaker 4: to see the employees at NIOSH coming back. And I
- 5:39Speaker 4: think that was always part of the plan. I think
- 5:41Speaker 4: there was. You know, this idea that you can't cut
- 5:44Speaker 4: government without cutting government is true, and if you are
- 5:47Speaker 4: truly committed to making the government smaller and more efficient,
- 5:50Speaker 4: you know that that isn't always going to be the
- 5:52Speaker 4: easiest process. But I think the American people, especially those
- 5:56Speaker 4: with children, are looking at our growing debt and are
- 5:58Speaker 4: mounting expenses. I mean, and this is a bipartisan problem.
- 6:01Speaker 4: I mean, the budget has been growing my entire life
- 6:04Speaker 4: in a in a pace that far out paces our
- 6:06Speaker 4: ability to afford it. And you know, it is interesting
- 6:10Speaker 4: to watch. You know, you turn on the TV and
- 6:12Speaker 4: you see the congress people and senators and stuff getting interviewed,
- 6:15Speaker 4: and some of them are mad about it, and some
- 6:16Speaker 4: of them are happy. But every single year we pass
- 6:19Speaker 4: the budget, and every single dollar that gets spent has
- 6:22Speaker 4: been approved by the federal government by Congress, and so,
- 6:25Speaker 4: you know, it is it's interesting to see somebody actually
- 6:28Speaker 4: sort of flip the dichotomy and actually take a bold
- 6:31Speaker 4: step to truly make our federal government an appropriate size.
- 6:34Speaker 4: And you know, I'm excited to see it, and I
- 6:36Speaker 4: think the President has the authority to do so.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Talking to him with Attorney General JB. Mccusky this past week,
- 6:42Speaker 2: you were in d C. And I understand you're going
- 6:44Speaker 2: back to d C. But you were at the Supreme
- 6:46Speaker 2: Court in this emergency hearing Trump versus you know, CASA, Yes, yes,
- 6:53Speaker 2: and multiple others. And I'm not a lawyer here, so
- 6:56Speaker 2: bear with me as best I understand the say the
- 6:58Speaker 2: say to West Virginia find an amicus specifically questioning the
- 7:02Speaker 2: legality of nationwide injunctions issued by district courts. I hope
- 7:07Speaker 2: I explained that properly nailed it.
- 7:08Speaker 5: What is the issue here?
- 7:09Speaker 4: The issue here is that we have a system of
- 7:12Speaker 4: courts in this country. We have three branches. Obviously everybody
- 7:14Speaker 4: at three co equal branches, but the only one branch
- 7:18Speaker 4: that doesn't really have the ability to enforce anything is
- 7:21Speaker 4: a judicial branch, and so their authority is derived almost
- 7:25Speaker 4: completely from the public's respect for their decisions. And the
- 7:30Speaker 4: district courts are the lowest courts of the federal courts,
- 7:33Speaker 4: and they are designed to hear cases and controversies. They
- 7:36Speaker 4: are designed to hear court cases and criminal cases and
- 7:39Speaker 4: things of that nature where there's a specific party in
- 7:41Speaker 4: front of them and a specific party against them. And
- 7:44Speaker 4: their rulings are designed to apply to the parties that
- 7:49Speaker 4: are in front of them, not the entire country. And
- 7:51Speaker 4: what we have now is a bunch of district court
- 7:53Speaker 4: judges who are really stepping well beyond what I believe
- 7:57Speaker 4: is their constitutional authority and issuing being nationwide injunctions as
- 8:02Speaker 4: opposed to only issuing orders for the people that are
- 8:05Speaker 4: in front of them. So let's say that you know,
- 8:07Speaker 4: Bob sues Sandy, right, the judge is allowed to tell
- 8:10Speaker 4: you can enjoin Bob from doing something to Sandy. An
- 8:13Speaker 4: injunction is that telling somebody to stop doing something, And
- 8:17Speaker 4: then if that is unconstitutional or illegal, Sandy has the
- 8:20Speaker 4: opportunity to appeal that case to the circuit court. And
- 8:25Speaker 4: then the circuit court has a much broader area with
- 8:27Speaker 4: which they can bind people. In West Virginia, we're in
- 8:30Speaker 4: the fourth Circuit and it encompasses the states around us.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Then the circuit courts can either accept or deny what
- 8:36Speaker 4: the district court said, and then if you don't like that,
- 8:39Speaker 4: you go to the US Supreme Court. And the idea
- 8:41Speaker 4: here is that we have to follow process.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Right.
- 8:44Speaker 4: The courts are separate from both of the other two branches,
- 8:48Speaker 4: and they are nonpartisan, and they are life tenured, and
- 8:52Speaker 4: that is for a specific reason. That is to ensure
- 8:54Speaker 4: that the public sees their rulings as being outside of
- 8:57Speaker 4: the scourge of politics. And if we have district court
- 9:00Speaker 4: judges that are going to start acting as though they're
- 9:03Speaker 4: legislators and acting outside of their purview. The public's confidence
- 9:07Speaker 4: in our court system is going to absolutely plummet, and
- 9:10Speaker 4: that is a disaster, especially for people that believe that
- 9:13Speaker 4: we are living in a world that is too hyper partisan.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Talking again with Attorney General JB. McCuskey with Dave Allen
- 9:18Speaker 2: Show and five Vidieline brought to you a part about
- 9:20Speaker 2: Live Healthy was Forginia, presented by WVU Medicine. It's a
- 9:23Speaker 2: podcast aimed at foster and healthier lifestyles. Great Resource Check
- 9:26Speaker 2: have the latest episodes wv metronews dot com under the
- 9:29Speaker 2: podcast Men, you start your journey towards better health. Today,
- 9:32Speaker 2: I saw where you had joined with other Attorneys generals
- 9:36Speaker 2: for a roundtable with law enforcement.
- 9:38Speaker 4: It's attorney's Attorney General.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I said.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Somebody texted that I got that wrong last time. Didn't
- 9:44Speaker 4: you tell me that?
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 9:45Speaker 4: I probably did get it wrong.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Uh huh, it's not impossible. Okay.
- 9:48Speaker 4: So we got to sit down and talk with General
- 9:50Speaker 4: Bondi at the White House several of my other Attorney generals.
- 9:55Speaker 4: As you said, and you know, there was a very
- 9:58Speaker 4: broad discussion, but I had the opportunity to sort of
- 10:00Speaker 4: tell West Virginia's story and to talk to the Attorney
- 10:03Speaker 4: General about how, you know, the immigration problems and the
- 10:07Speaker 4: the the fentanyl that is pouring across our border and
- 10:13Speaker 4: is being really handled by so many law enforcement officers
- 10:17Speaker 4: in places that aren't West Virginia. We are the end
- 10:20Speaker 4: result of all of that crime. The drugs end up here.
- 10:23Speaker 4: And so I got to sort of talk to her
- 10:25Speaker 4: about our foster care crisis and the crisis we have
- 10:27Speaker 4: with drug rehabit and the ways in which West Virginia
- 10:31Speaker 4: has probably been affected by the drug scourge in this
- 10:34Speaker 4: country as much, if not more than any other place
- 10:36Speaker 4: in the country. And she was she really took some
- 10:39Speaker 4: time to listen and understand that the work you're doing
- 10:42Speaker 4: on the front end, finding these drugs at the border
- 10:45Speaker 4: and finding these these folks who are are you know,
- 10:49Speaker 4: they don't care about the health and safety of West Virginias.
- 10:51Speaker 4: They're just trying to make money and finding them, getting
- 10:53Speaker 4: them off the streets, getting them into jail, or getting
- 10:55Speaker 4: them deported. It matters to the health and safety of
- 10:59Speaker 4: not just West Virginia people, but really buy and large,
- 11:01Speaker 4: the kids of West Virginia who need a better opportunity
- 11:04Speaker 4: and I think it really gave her a great perspective
- 11:07Speaker 4: on how important the job that the DJ is trying
- 11:10Speaker 4: to do to clean this up is, even when the
- 11:13Speaker 4: arrests themselves are not happening in West Virginia, but the
- 11:16Speaker 4: drugs that the arrests are preventing are.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Why are you suing Vermont?
- 11:22Speaker 4: I'm suing Vermont because of like a syrup issue or
- 11:25Speaker 4: what Yes, their syrup is. The labels are wrong, There's
- 11:28Speaker 4: too many calories. You know, it's a big problem. You know,
- 11:31Speaker 4: we make a lot of kidding. By the way, you
- 11:32Speaker 4: know who the second largest maple syrup producer in the
- 11:35Speaker 4: country is absolutely our maple syrup is just as delicious
- 11:38Speaker 4: as Vermont's. And it doesn't come with a government that
- 11:42Speaker 4: decides to find energy companies all around the country to
- 11:46Speaker 4: an unlimited tune.
- 11:47Speaker 6: Right.
- 11:47Speaker 4: So what Vermont did is very much like New York
- 11:49Speaker 4: what you and I talked about. They have decided that
- 11:52Speaker 4: if you have been involved in the coal or the
- 11:54Speaker 4: natural gas industry over the last thirty years, you have
- 11:57Speaker 4: destroyed Vermont. I've been to Vermont several times. It is
- 12:00Speaker 4: absolutely beautiful. It's lovely, it's beautiful, and their actions are
- 12:07Speaker 4: intensely unconstitutional along with being kind of dumb, and so myself,
- 12:12Speaker 4: along with twenty three other attorney generals and several interest
- 12:15Speaker 4: groups have gone to Vermont and filed a lawsuit to
- 12:18Speaker 4: find their their state law and constitutional. And again, you
- 12:22Speaker 4: got to start looking at these things through the eyes
- 12:24Speaker 4: of those who might use it against you. Right, does
- 12:26Speaker 4: Vermont want West Virginia to start suing them for, you know,
- 12:30Speaker 4: just random things or create laws that find that the
- 12:33Speaker 4: people of Vermont over things that were done that were legal.
- 12:36Speaker 4: And the answer that question is no, it violates federalism
- 12:40Speaker 4: and every single action that every single one of these
- 12:43Speaker 4: energy companies that they're targeting done was legal, regulated by
- 12:46Speaker 4: the federal government. And we're really hopeful and really confident
- 12:50Speaker 4: that our suit is going to be successful.
- 12:52Speaker 7: Well, we let you go.
- 12:53Speaker 2: You're in a Second Amendment fight now or you have
- 12:56Speaker 2: bamb you're ramping it up?
- 12:58Speaker 4: What's up with this which one, Dave? We're in a
- 13:00Speaker 4: whole mess up. Have you talked about the one in
- 13:02Speaker 4: DC or the one in Maryland.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Let's go with the one in DC.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Okay, So d C has decided And again, it really
- 13:09Speaker 4: is bizarre to watch people intentionally violate court orders. But
- 13:13Speaker 4: the United States Supreme Court has said that you cannot
- 13:17Speaker 4: use a balancing test when you're creating laws around the
- 13:20Speaker 4: Second Amendment, and DC has done exactly that, and they
- 13:23Speaker 4: are trying to limit magazine sizes for guns in the
- 13:27Speaker 4: District of Columbia. This is noticeably unconstitutional. It is against
- 13:31Speaker 4: the rule of law that was created very recently, within
- 13:34Speaker 4: the last three years. And we're leading a group of
- 13:37Speaker 4: like minded attorney generals to make sure that DC isn't
- 13:40Speaker 4: allowed to violate the Second Amendment because a violation of
- 13:43Speaker 4: it anywhere is a violation of it everywhere.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Okay, that was going to say so, but this is
- 13:46Speaker 2: in d C. Why does it affect West Virginia.
- 13:48Speaker 4: But it affects for West Virginia. I mean, the last
- 13:50Speaker 4: time I checked, d C is about forty miles from
- 13:52Speaker 4: the border of the Eastern Panhandle, and we have a
- 13:55Speaker 4: whole myriad of people in West Virginia who feel pretty
- 13:59Speaker 4: well compared to defend themselves when they travel out of state.
- 14:02Speaker 4: So we are excited to defend the rights of the
- 14:04Speaker 4: people in DC and along with the people of West
- 14:06Speaker 4: Virginia who and everywhere in the country who want to
- 14:09Speaker 4: travel there.
- 14:10Speaker 2: What else is on your mind? You got anything else
- 14:11Speaker 2: you want to come? You know, the end of the
- 14:13Speaker 2: Memorial weekend, it.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Is Memorial Day, the pool is going to open, summertime's coming,
- 14:18Speaker 4: and the vibes are high. I think West Virginia is
- 14:21Speaker 4: in a good spot. I feel really good about where
- 14:24Speaker 4: we are and where we're going. And you know, I'm
- 14:26Speaker 4: about five months into this office, and I can't tell
- 14:28Speaker 4: you it is. It's just the most remarkable feeling every
- 14:32Speaker 4: morning to wake up every day and know that the
- 14:34Speaker 4: people of West Virginia, your clients. We got a lot
- 14:37Speaker 4: of really cool cases coming up that we're getting ready
- 14:39Speaker 4: to file. I can't wait to come back on and
- 14:40Speaker 4: talk to you about them. And you know, the people
- 14:42Speaker 4: in the office are super busy. I've been just running
- 14:44Speaker 4: ragged and trying to spend as much time with my
- 14:47Speaker 4: kids playing soccer and going to dance and doing all
- 14:48Speaker 4: that other stuff you can and find a minute to
- 14:50Speaker 4: have dinner with your wife every now and again. Life
- 14:52Speaker 4: is good with my wife, not your wife. I would
- 14:54Speaker 4: have dinner with your wife.
- 14:55Speaker 5: Your wife's lovely.
- 14:56Speaker 2: She's a lovely person.
- 14:57Speaker 4: She appears to be a very good cook.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah, now, wait, a minute.
- 15:00Speaker 1: What does that?
- 15:01Speaker 2: What does that mean?
- 15:02Speaker 4: You've put pictures of the food on the internet. You
- 15:05Speaker 4: actually look kind of skinny. You got your haircut. You
- 15:07Speaker 4: look like you've maybe lost a little bit of weight.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I've lost about twenty pounds.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Good for you, Dave, Yeah, yeah, you're doing your Mountaineer mile. Yes,
- 15:14Speaker 4: that's good.
- 15:15Speaker 2: As far as you know.
- 15:16Speaker 4: I do the Mountaineer mile now three four times ago.
- 15:18Speaker 4: You didn't need to, though, Well I did it something.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I lost sixty pounds about six years ago. We had
- 15:24Speaker 4: when we had our second kid. I decided that I
- 15:26Speaker 4: was going to gain all the weight in the family
- 15:27Speaker 4: instead of my wife.

- 18:07Speaker 2: to a person of your political persuasion. Step off. There's
- 18:10Speaker 2: a a little bit of sarcasm there, Matt Sutton, chief
- 18:14Speaker 2: of staff for the Mayor's Offices. Here hay Del buddy going.
- 18:18Speaker 5: Good, speaking of sarcasm.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Speaking of sarcasm, you got me. Well, that's good, and
- 18:23Speaker 2: there's worse people to have. I guess I can't think
- 18:25Speaker 2: of one or off top my head.
- 18:26Speaker 5: But you know, we took some time.
- 18:27Speaker 3: We'd figure it out. So Day two, yeah, exciting. So
- 18:31Speaker 3: we've got the time trials to start today. So that's
- 18:33Speaker 3: just a canall boulevard, the paracycling time trials, the women
- 18:36Speaker 3: Junior and the men Junior time trials. They started now
- 18:39Speaker 3: about twenty five minutes ago and they'll wrap up sometime today,
- 18:42Speaker 3: about twelve thirty or one. But you know, road closures
- 18:45Speaker 3: today much less than they were yesterday. It's really just
- 18:48Speaker 3: the boulevard and the streets that enter the boulevard, so
- 18:50Speaker 3: you can't you're you're not getting on the boulevard much
- 18:54Speaker 3: of today. And we did have some backup on a
- 18:56Speaker 3: corkwory Avenue early this morning, cause I think people were
- 18:58Speaker 3: avoiding the boulevard, but that got clear pretty quickly.
- 19:00Speaker 2: So so if you get into if you get off
- 19:02Speaker 2: into town, and let's just say, you know, you get
- 19:04Speaker 2: off on Virginia Street like a lot of people do,
- 19:06Speaker 2: and you pass W. SAZ and you're going down through,
- 19:08Speaker 2: there shouldn't be any problems.
- 19:09Speaker 3: There won't be any issues today unless you try to
- 19:12Speaker 3: do a side street you're off to the boulevard. Yeah,
- 19:14Speaker 3: if you're coming into town that way and you're coming
- 19:15Speaker 3: through Virginia Street and you try to turn right onto
- 19:17Speaker 3: the boulevard, you're gonna get stopped at some point, unless
- 19:20Speaker 3: you're trying to get into sort of the County building
- 19:22Speaker 3: of the city building where the parking garage is. But
- 19:24Speaker 3: other than that, you're gonna be able to go free
- 19:26Speaker 3: and clear down Virginia Street. Quarter Street will be good
- 19:29Speaker 3: that way until Thursday evening when we start setting up
- 19:32Speaker 3: for the Criterion races. They go through all downtown Charleston,
- 19:35Speaker 3: and that is one of those ones on Thursday. Probably
- 19:38Speaker 3: best if you know in that footprint that's kind of
- 19:40Speaker 3: you know, the the boulevard, Summer Street.
- 19:43Speaker 5: All the way, you know, Capitol Street all the way
- 19:45Speaker 5: through Hale.
- 19:46Speaker 3: If you're in that footprint, you're going to want to
- 19:48Speaker 3: get out of town before five, or hang out with
- 19:50Speaker 3: us for the entire evening, or at least get your
- 19:51Speaker 3: car out of the way, because if you remember the
- 19:54Speaker 3: races downtown last year that starts Thursday and Thursday night
- 19:57Speaker 3: Friday night, they they're so fast there's no way to
- 20:00Speaker 3: get anybody in or out.
- 20:01Speaker 5: We can barely get people to cross the street.
- 20:03Speaker 2: That's the one thing. And I was talking to somebody
- 20:05Speaker 2: about this yesterday, and again we're talking with the Mayor's
- 20:08Speaker 2: office chief was staff Matt Sudden. But one of the
- 20:10Speaker 2: things that amazed me last year, I was at Bar
- 20:13Speaker 2: one on one doing a live broadcast on her sister
- 20:15Speaker 2: stationed the Mountain last year during all while this was
- 20:17Speaker 2: all going on, and I obviou seen bike racing on TV,
- 20:20Speaker 2: but I've never seen it in person. I could not
- 20:23Speaker 2: get over the speed of this. And I know that's
- 20:26Speaker 2: the whole idea, but as we're standing there, we were
- 20:29Speaker 2: standing right outside. It was a beautiful night. Last year,
- 20:31Speaker 2: we were standing right outside Bar one on one and
- 20:33Speaker 2: just again for lack of better just the speed of
- 20:37Speaker 2: it all coming around that corner. Man, it absolutely blew
- 20:40Speaker 2: me away.
- 20:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think, I think.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I you know, they kept telling us the speed right,
- 20:44Speaker 3: they kept saying they're going to twenty third miles proud,
- 20:47Speaker 3: They kept telling us that, and nobody really believed it
- 20:50Speaker 3: until you actually felt it. And I think that was
- 20:51Speaker 3: as much as anything else. Seeing it was one thing,
- 20:53Speaker 3: But when they came by, if you're standing on the rail,
- 20:55Speaker 3: you were feeling it. You could physically feel how fast
- 20:57Speaker 3: they were going, and it was it was really insane.
- 21:00Speaker 3: And then it just became so fun once you got
- 21:03Speaker 3: to watch it and realized what was going on. And
- 21:05Speaker 3: the nice thing is the cyclists are so nice. If
- 21:07Speaker 3: they're not racing, they're watching them just like the rest
- 21:09Speaker 3: of us, and they're more than willing to talk to you.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Yesterday was fascinating. I mean, the paracycling, watching those folks.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I was watching the I'm sitting there with a friend
- 21:19Speaker 3: of mine watching the cyclists who do the hand cycling.
- 21:22Speaker 3: You know, they're kind of laying on their back and
- 21:24Speaker 3: they're doing doing the hand cycling. They've I passed out
- 21:27Speaker 3: in about thirty five seconds trying to do that. I
- 21:29Speaker 3: mean they, I mean I just the physicality that goes
- 21:31Speaker 3: into the bike race is really impressive, and the athletic
- 21:35Speaker 3: ability of the cyclists, and then just their their good
- 21:38Speaker 3: nature of how awesome they've been to have in town.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Yesterday was a fun day once we got through the
- 21:44Speaker 3: traffic situation. But if you got to see it, you
- 21:46Speaker 3: could kind of see what the what we were talking
- 21:48Speaker 3: about yesterday because those hand cyclists are really low to
- 21:51Speaker 3: the ground, and I think Chief Dempsey mentioned that, well
- 21:54Speaker 3: you see it today too in the in the time trials,
- 21:56Speaker 3: so they're hard to see. They're harder to see than
- 21:58Speaker 3: the bike. So that was one of the issues. Just
- 22:00Speaker 3: but once you know, we got cleared up about what
- 22:02Speaker 3: one o'clock and then evening traffic was easy. Today, be fine.
- 22:06Speaker 3: The next real big traffic issue will be Thursday evening.
- 22:11Speaker 3: You know, in that four thirty five o'clock time frame,
- 22:13Speaker 3: wouldn't it be time to time for people to leave work,
- 22:15Speaker 3: get out of get out of town, or hang out
- 22:17Speaker 3: with us more importantly.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and so again we do want to make sure
- 22:20Speaker 2: people realize that if you're somebody that works downtown on
- 22:22Speaker 2: Thursday evening and you worked till five o'clock, one of
- 22:25Speaker 2: two things here. You probably want to either go to
- 22:27Speaker 2: your boss and smile real pretty and say, hey, what's
- 22:30Speaker 2: the chances of me leaving early? Or just stay go downtown,
- 22:33Speaker 2: grab yourself a drink, grab yourself something to eat, visit
- 22:36Speaker 2: one of the shops downtown and just hang out for
- 22:38Speaker 2: a while.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean Thursday night races, the number of races
- 22:41Speaker 3: they have, it's likely to go to eleven o'clock a
- 22:43Speaker 3: little bit after that, and probably the same one Friday.
- 22:46Speaker 3: So it's it's gonna be nice, you know. I will say,
- 22:50Speaker 3: we'll hopefully get the weather out of the way this afternoon.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Does look like we're going to get some pretty pretty
- 22:54Speaker 3: good rain, maybe some wind this afternoon, probably after the
- 22:57Speaker 3: time trials are over with today.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Most of what I have, that's what I've heard and
- 23:01Speaker 2: like brought Brian Hughes told me. It looks like it's
- 23:03Speaker 2: going to be after five, after six, it looks like
- 23:06Speaker 2: and look, you battled weather last year too.
- 23:09Speaker 4: It's part of it.
- 23:10Speaker 2: And these these athletes are used to battling everything from
- 23:13Speaker 2: snow to wind, to rain to locusts. I mean they
- 23:15Speaker 2: can handle everything, man.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they did that Criterion race through downtown
- 23:19Speaker 3: flying around those corners and it was raining last year
- 23:21Speaker 3: and one of the races and the men's elite race,
- 23:22Speaker 3: so it was it was again fun to watch. But yeah,
- 23:26Speaker 3: I mean so, I think Thursday would be the one
- 23:28Speaker 3: to kind of get your mind around. Other than that,
- 23:30Speaker 3: you'll be if you're not on the boulevard, you'll be
- 23:32Speaker 3: driving free and clear throughout town. But we do ask
- 23:35Speaker 3: again you continue to keep your eye off for cyclists
- 23:37Speaker 3: because they are out practicing and there are out riding around.
- 23:40Speaker 5: And again it has sparked I think Chief said it yesterday.
- 23:42Speaker 3: It has sparked local you know, people who ride bikes
- 23:45Speaker 3: to get out and move around as well.
- 23:46Speaker 5: When we were happy with.
- 23:47Speaker 3: The crowd yesterday for the first day, and really expect
- 23:50Speaker 3: them to start ramping up as the week goes along.
- 23:53Speaker 2: The day Island showing five Any line brought to you
- 23:55Speaker 2: a part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Birds are back at home the night over at gomart Ballpark,
- 24:00Speaker 2: and so we'll take on a high point two dollars
- 24:01Speaker 2: Tuesday with two dollar tickets, popcorn, hot dogs, and soda.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Plus it's USA Cycling Nights, is it? Dirtybirds Baseball Dot
- 24:07Speaker 2: com or their social media just goes to show you, Matt,
- 24:10Speaker 2: everybody's getting involved in this bike the hashtag bike Bike
- 24:14Speaker 2: City USA, Biketown USA.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:16Speaker 3: I mean that's that's the point though, right, I mean
- 24:18Speaker 3: I think, you know, I think Tim, Tim has said it,
- 24:21Speaker 3: and I know the mayor has said it quite a bit.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Like last year, we spent a lot of time on
- 24:24Speaker 3: the logistics, and this year we have the logistics down
- 24:28Speaker 3: pretty pretty well.
- 24:29Speaker 5: We'll always be able to learn and do better.
- 24:31Speaker 3: We have the logistics down so we were able to
- 24:32Speaker 3: add things this year and having the Bike Night, having
- 24:35Speaker 3: USA Cycling Night.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Over the ballpark. You've got the watch parties going on
- 24:39Speaker 5: this weekend.
- 24:39Speaker 2: There's a big event. Actually we're going to talk about this,
- 24:41Speaker 2: I think later on Metro News Midday today. There's actually
- 24:43Speaker 2: a big event happening at the Capitol yep. I think
- 24:46Speaker 2: on Saturday.
- 24:47Speaker 5: Saturday is yeah, along with Vandalia.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Yeah, with Van Dalia. So you got that going on
- 24:51Speaker 2: and you're gonna be able to watch it. As a
- 24:53Speaker 2: best understand, you'll be able to watch it from there.
- 24:56Speaker 2: From the Capitol, Yep.
- 24:56Speaker 5: You'll be able to watch there.
- 24:57Speaker 3: You can go up towards Avenue and watch with those folks,
- 25:00Speaker 3: and then you'll be able to go up to the
- 25:02Speaker 3: Bridge Road shops in South Hills and be able to
- 25:04Speaker 3: watch up there.
- 25:04Speaker 5: So there are a lot of like watch party areas.
- 25:06Speaker 3: There's one right downtown on Capitol Street where you can
- 25:08Speaker 3: kind of catch the start finish line. And then we've
- 25:10Speaker 3: got live music and entertainment going on all the time
- 25:13Speaker 3: in City Center starting on Thursday. So there's going to
- 25:17Speaker 3: be a lot of places to watch. But to your
- 25:19Speaker 3: point is it has become sort of much more spread out.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Last year it was, you know, we had a couple
- 25:23Speaker 3: of small events and then we had downtown. But this
- 25:25Speaker 3: year it's been much more spread out, and we've seen
- 25:27Speaker 3: the community join in because I think people just they
- 25:29Speaker 3: appreciate it, they enjoy it, and it's something different. And
- 25:31Speaker 3: you know, we've talked a million times and I know
- 25:34Speaker 3: I have, but Andy Shay and his partnership at the ballpark,
- 25:37Speaker 3: the ball team in the ballpark, anything that's going on
- 25:40Speaker 3: in town, their game to partner with, and that's been
- 25:42Speaker 3: a tremendous asset to us because not only does it
- 25:45Speaker 3: help all of the events that we have, but it
- 25:47Speaker 3: helps bring the team closer to the city, and I
- 25:50Speaker 3: think they've done an amazing job with that, and that's
- 25:52Speaker 3: one of the reasons they've had so much successes is
- 25:54Speaker 3: integrating themselves much more in the community.
- 25:56Speaker 2: There's a community event going on, the Dirty Birds are there,
- 25:58Speaker 2: that's one of the things I like about it.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Yeah, every time, or they're hosting it themselves.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true too, but they've allen Shilling five eighty

- 26:16Speaker 2: before we let you go, because I know you're really busy,
- 26:18Speaker 2: but you actually may be enjoying hiding out in here
- 26:20Speaker 2: for a little while.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think, well, the new studios are beautiful,
- 26:23Speaker 3: but you don't get the hide a with the funds,
- 26:25Speaker 3: you don't get the hide too much.
- 26:27Speaker 5: But no, I mean, I think it's it really is.
- 26:29Speaker 3: It's one of those things to where you know the
- 26:31Speaker 3: USA Cycling team, not the cyclist, but the team that
- 26:35Speaker 3: put on the event or just the pros of pros man.
- 26:38Speaker 3: They know exactly what they're doing. They've got this down
- 26:41Speaker 3: the Charleston Police Department working with them on the road closures,
- 26:44Speaker 3: and then you know our team with Veranda and Tina
- 26:46Speaker 3: and Andrew and Audrey and Sid and everybody who's working
- 26:50Speaker 3: on it. Honestly, they make things. They make things pretty
- 26:53Speaker 3: easy this year. I mean, we've got issues to deal with,
- 26:54Speaker 3: but you know, we have a whole other things with
- 26:57Speaker 3: the city, other issues with the city going on, and
- 26:59Speaker 3: we've got to work on and being able to have
- 27:01Speaker 3: a team that has really handled this and kept it
- 27:04Speaker 3: very well organized has been very helpful for all of
- 27:06Speaker 3: us involved. And you know, had city Council last night
- 27:09Speaker 3: and we've got some more stuff going on today. So yeah,
- 27:12Speaker 3: I mean the city continues to move, even with the
- 27:14Speaker 3: cycling race in town, but it is a lot of
- 27:17Speaker 3: work that goes into it. And you know, I think
- 27:20Speaker 3: you know, somebody asked me yesterday when do you start
- 27:24Speaker 3: preparing for next year?
- 27:25Speaker 5: And I said, yesterday. I mean that's when we started
- 27:27Speaker 5: to write. I mean, that's when you get going.
- 27:29Speaker 3: It takes a long time to get into this, but
- 27:32Speaker 3: we got really a really great team and really thoughtful
- 27:35Speaker 3: and making sure that not only that balance between people
- 27:39Speaker 3: not having the roads closed all the time, but having
- 27:42Speaker 3: public safety be there. That balance is key and we've
- 27:45Speaker 3: achieved it for the most part. We'll continue to tweak it,
- 27:47Speaker 3: but feel really good about it. But the excitement builds
- 27:50Speaker 3: as we get through the weekend and Thursday night, Friday night,
- 27:52Speaker 3: and then the end of the Saturday, Sunday, Monday. It's
- 27:55Speaker 3: going to be really fun in town and we're really
- 27:58Speaker 3: looking forward to because I think that is the time
- 28:00Speaker 3: where we really get the showcase Charleston off to the world.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Before we let you go, I want to get a
- 28:05Speaker 2: word in about the volunteers. Yeah, and how many people
- 28:08Speaker 2: have volunteered for then you meet like a ballpark figure.
- 28:10Speaker 3: I mean, I think I think they have over three
- 28:12Speaker 3: hundred volunteers that we got people on our staff here
- 28:15Speaker 3: that are that are volunteering just to go out and help.
- 28:18Speaker 3: And I talked to a lot of volunteers when I
- 28:19Speaker 3: was downtown last year. You don't pull this off without
- 28:22Speaker 3: without the volunteers.
- 28:23Speaker 4: No, you know.
- 28:23Speaker 3: I spoke to a group of AmeriCorps individuals the other
- 28:27Speaker 3: day who are in the education system, and they were
- 28:29Speaker 3: in town and spoke with them and part of the
- 28:31Speaker 3: thing we talked about was volunteers. And really, you know,
- 28:34Speaker 3: you can't pull off any large scale event in this
- 28:37Speaker 3: city or any city for that without volunteers. Everybody can't
- 28:39Speaker 3: be paid, everybody can't be on staff, you can't have
- 28:42Speaker 3: an attire. You know, your whole your whole city team
- 28:44Speaker 3: out there working. So you have volunteers. And while you know,
- 28:47Speaker 3: when you think about you know, in the Thursday, Friday
- 28:49Speaker 3: and then the weekend where a lot of people are
- 28:51Speaker 3: going to be hanging out at watch parties are having fun,
- 28:53Speaker 3: there's going to be volunteers sitting by the street who
- 28:55Speaker 3: they could be hanging out and having fun and eating
- 28:58Speaker 3: downtown and enjoying a PoTA be but they're sitting there
- 29:01Speaker 3: and helping make sure the event can occur at some
- 29:04Speaker 3: place where there may not be a lot of traffic,
- 29:05Speaker 3: or there may be, but they're the ones who are
- 29:07Speaker 3: actually making sure this event could occur.
- 29:08Speaker 5: So we thank them.
- 29:09Speaker 3: I mean, you know, this CVB did an amazing job
- 29:12Speaker 3: looking for volunteers. We can't do the cycling race with that,
- 29:15Speaker 3: and we can't do regatta without it. It can't do festival,
- 29:18Speaker 3: they can't do multifest. None of this can happen without
- 29:21Speaker 3: tremendous community support, and I think we all know who
- 29:23Speaker 3: live here. Like That's the one thing we have over
- 29:26Speaker 3: when we go to compete for these events that we
- 29:28Speaker 3: have with other cities is you know, with USA Cycling,
- 29:31Speaker 3: we had a team of community volunteers that were there
- 29:33Speaker 3: the first day.
- 29:34Speaker 5: It wasn't just Tim and the mayor.
- 29:35Speaker 3: It was a team of community volunteers that were you know,
- 29:39Speaker 3: Ted Arnbreck and Bradley Smaltzer and Oh, I'm gonna forget people,
- 29:43Speaker 3: so I shouldn't have started naming naming folks Jack Hoblitzer
- 29:46Speaker 3: and Eric Showalter and Todd dork Is and others who
- 29:49Speaker 3: were there when we pitched this thing. And that's what
- 29:51Speaker 3: really set us apart was we were ready to go
- 29:53Speaker 3: with community, with community members who are ready to volunteer
- 29:56Speaker 3: their time freely to be able to make these events
- 29:58Speaker 3: happen when we compete with other cities, that is our
- 30:00Speaker 3: tremendous advantage is our community and the people we have.
- 30:03Speaker 3: So having those volunteers is extremely important. I know, are
- 30:07Speaker 3: good friend Adam Harris, He's volunteering four or five days
- 30:09Speaker 3: during this event, and he's just you know, kind of
- 30:11Speaker 3: hanging out there at a corner and making sure that
- 30:13Speaker 3: people don't cross when they when they're not going to
- 30:15Speaker 3: cross a big part of them and it's a big deal.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Or helping the cyclists with water. It's it really does
- 30:21Speaker 3: take a true village to pull this off, and we've
- 30:24Speaker 3: got one. And that's why we're able to have so
- 30:25Speaker 3: much success with these events, and that's why we're able
- 30:27Speaker 3: to get them and keep them, and that's why we'll
- 30:29Speaker 3: be able to get the next one because, as we
- 30:30Speaker 3: talked about yesterday, when the USA Cycling folks go and leave, yeah,
- 30:34Speaker 3: they're going to talk about the city team, they're going
- 30:36Speaker 3: to talk about the mayor support and the CVBS and
- 30:39Speaker 3: working with the police department, but they're really going to
- 30:40Speaker 3: talk about our community. And that's what allows us to
- 30:43Speaker 3: get these events and has so much success with all
- 30:46Speaker 3: the events we have in town. So it really is
- 30:48Speaker 3: a true village that you know, puts this on. And
- 30:52Speaker 3: we're just floored in Charleston and throughout West Virginia to
- 30:55Speaker 3: be able to have the folks who are willing to
- 30:56Speaker 3: help us do this because it is a time commitment
- 30:58Speaker 3: out of their day when they could be doing other things,
- 31:00Speaker 3: but they're they're helping our entire community. So a deta
- 31:03Speaker 3: gratitude to all of them. And if you see somebody,
- 31:05Speaker 3: I believe they're in green shirts this year, it says
- 31:08Speaker 3: volunteer on the back, so you know who they are.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Just shake their end, get read it.
- 31:13Speaker 8: Hey.
- 31:13Speaker 2: One other thing for we let you go, not related
- 31:15Speaker 2: to this event. You mentioned city council. I said, there
- 31:17Speaker 2: was some discussion of PODA ex what came out of
- 31:22Speaker 2: city council on So a few things with PODA.
- 31:24Speaker 3: One is is just adherent with some the state change
- 31:26Speaker 3: the laws a little bit as it relates to the
- 31:28Speaker 3: length of license to the nonprofit head. So we had
- 31:30Speaker 3: to conform the state law. But what the changes we
- 31:32Speaker 3: made were really twofold. One was mostly related around cycling.
- 31:37Speaker 3: One was we added holidays, state and federal holidays. We're
- 31:41Speaker 3: going to treat like Saturdays and Sundays now from a
- 31:43Speaker 3: time perspective, so instead of it going from four to ten,
- 31:46Speaker 3: it's going to go from ten to ten. And that way,
- 31:49Speaker 3: you know, we were thinking sitting here thinking about Memorial
- 31:51Speaker 3: Day as this week is on Monday, and the regular
- 31:54Speaker 3: PoTA rules would have said, okay, you can't start till four,
- 31:56Speaker 3: and you can't and you got to stop at ten.
- 31:58Speaker 3: And for those again races going on, is the.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Designated areas where you can have a drink with following
- 32:07Speaker 2: the rules.
- 32:07Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, so you can.
- 32:08Speaker 3: You can get a if you have a POTO establishment,
- 32:10Speaker 3: they have cups that they can sell your beer cocktails
- 32:12Speaker 3: in and you can take it out into certain areas
- 32:14Speaker 3: and you'll see the signs. But the big thing was
- 32:16Speaker 3: is they've got you know, bridge Roads having parties warts
- 32:18Speaker 3: Avenue in downtown, and we realized that they were going
- 32:22Speaker 3: to start early because the races start early, so we
- 32:24Speaker 3: needed to change the rules as it relates to that.
- 32:27Speaker 3: So state and federal holidays will I'll be treated like
- 32:30Speaker 3: a Saturday where the hours are ten to ten. And
- 32:32Speaker 3: then we also city council gave the city manager some
- 32:35Speaker 3: leeway to change the time the length of the duration
- 32:39Speaker 3: of PODA for in very special events, one being Thursday
- 32:43Speaker 3: and Friday, PODA ends at ten, but these races aren't
- 32:45Speaker 3: going to end to eleven, So we're just extending those
- 32:47Speaker 3: hours out a little bit to make sure that we're
- 32:49Speaker 3: following our own rules as it relates to that. So
- 32:51Speaker 3: that was those changes were really to deal with some
- 32:53Speaker 3: of the special events. And you know it's is a living,
- 32:56Speaker 3: breathing thing. It'll it'll tweak but as we go along.
- 32:59Speaker 3: But it's been extremely successful. I know they started one
- 33:01Speaker 3: over in the Elk City district of west Side that's
- 33:03Speaker 3: getting going. They'll be utlizing that. But downtown and the
- 33:07Speaker 3: Bridge Road Poda, we'll be kicking on this weekend and
- 33:11Speaker 3: probably Thursday through Monday, and we need just need to
- 33:14Speaker 3: tweak the rules a little bit to allow that to happen.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Maryor Chief of staff Matt Sutton, appreciate you being here. Man,
- 33:18Speaker 2: I get back out there.

- 37:08Speaker 2: three today, Tex says, Dave, our dear Republican attorney general
- 37:12Speaker 2: is supporting a president who's on Capitol Hill today promoting
- 37:15Speaker 2: five trillion dollars more debt to the national debt Cole
- 37:18Speaker 2: may benefit his grandkid's futures, but not all of our
- 37:21Speaker 2: kids' futures. We don't have to follow Trump. The Republicans
- 37:24Speaker 2: didn't follow Obama or Biden, says a texture. Tex said,
- 37:32Speaker 2: if the authority the judicial branch is derived from the
- 37:36Speaker 2: respect of which is held, why does Trump hold courts
- 37:39Speaker 2: in such contempt, thereby looked at contemptuously by his MAGA followers,
- 37:44Speaker 2: He sets a terrible example for all citizens. A texture
- 37:53Speaker 2: on the pronunciation attorneys general, he said it incorrectly several times. No,
- 37:57Speaker 2: he actually said it right this time.
- 38:00Speaker 12: Now.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Last time he did mess up a little bit and say,
- 38:02Speaker 2: but now he got it right this time. Man, I
- 38:07Speaker 2: got a lot of texts to get today. Folks are
- 38:09Speaker 2: active today, which is all good, Okay. Text says not
- 38:16Speaker 2: much will be happening if Trump's tax cuts go through
- 38:20Speaker 2: and add multi multiple trillions to the deficit over ten years,
- 38:23Speaker 2: as forecasted by conservative economist. I will say this, and
- 38:27Speaker 2: I'm certainly not an economist. I leave that sort of
- 38:30Speaker 2: stuff up to the TJ. Meadows of the world. But
- 38:33Speaker 2: I've said, you know, you can you can love or
- 38:35Speaker 2: you can hate the president. I hope you don't hate anybody,
- 38:38Speaker 2: but you can. You can agree or not disagree with
- 38:40Speaker 2: Donald Trump. But I will say this, Donald Trump, if
- 38:46Speaker 2: you look at his policies, are not very conservative. I
- 38:49Speaker 2: mean just saying there. And if you are a true conservative,
- 38:53Speaker 2: You're probably gonna have a little heartburn over a lot
- 38:55Speaker 2: of Donald Trump's policies. But just saying tex says says JB.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Advocating the courts to keep their hands off of legislation.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Is he advocating for the courts to abdicate the responsibility
- 39:08Speaker 2: of checks and balances? On the Syrup comment, that was
- 39:12Speaker 2: a little joke on our part. Western Ggian Syrup comes
- 39:14Speaker 2: with a government that ignores the foster care system wants
- 39:16Speaker 2: to force girls to have birth that they're raped in
- 39:18Speaker 2: and pregnated, and a governor and an ag who could
- 39:20Speaker 2: do nothing but file frivolous lawsuits. Okay, I'm not reading that.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Tex says you all hear about the woman in Georgia
- 39:34Speaker 2: who is brain dad and hooked up the live support
- 39:36Speaker 2: because she's nine weeks pregnant and taking her off life
- 39:38Speaker 2: support would violate George's anti abortion laws. That's the society
- 39:42Speaker 2: conservatives are creating, says a Texter. I somebody in the
- 39:46Speaker 2: office was telling me about that story yesterday. All right,
- 39:51Speaker 2: So Aaron Parker has a story posted on the website
- 39:54Speaker 2: this morning somewhat some of a bizarre story from the
- 39:57Speaker 2: Spring Hills Cemetery. Investigators say there was a trailer driving
- 40:02Speaker 2: on a very narrow, dead end road on Sunday and
- 40:05Speaker 2: now he or she the driver, damaged a bunch of
- 40:07Speaker 2: headstones up there, then simply left the trailer there and
- 40:12Speaker 2: left in the truck. I mean just just left. The
- 40:15Speaker 2: truck was licensed to a company out of Chicago. So
- 40:18Speaker 2: this person somehow gets off on the wrong road I guess,
- 40:22Speaker 2: tear us up a bunch of stuff and then unhooks
- 40:23Speaker 2: the cab of the truck and just takes off in
- 40:26Speaker 2: it like his or her bosses are not good to
- 40:30Speaker 2: know that they somehow lost a trailer. Crews were called
- 40:35Speaker 2: in to hook up the trailer and back it down
- 40:36Speaker 2: the hill. Actually saw some video posted on one of
- 40:38Speaker 2: the TV stations about that last night of them actually
- 40:40Speaker 2: backing it down. It's a very bizarre story. Aaron Parker
- 40:43Speaker 2: again has got the story posted if you'd like to
- 40:46Speaker 2: read or see more about it over at wv Metronho's
- 40:49Speaker 2: dot com. But Dave Island showing five any Lie brought

- 40:57Speaker 2: Visit Bridge Valley dot eu. Getting back to the traffic
- 41:01Speaker 2: situation in Charleston, it does seem to be quite a
- 41:03Speaker 2: bit better this morning, especially during the morning hours coming
- 41:06Speaker 2: into town. And look, it's going to be that way
- 41:11Speaker 2: until most of you head back to work after the
- 41:14Speaker 2: Memorial Day holiday. You can't have an event like this
- 41:19Speaker 2: and think you aren't going to have some delays. It's
- 41:22Speaker 2: that simple. It's frustrating, I know, but the amount of
- 41:26Speaker 2: money that this event is bringing in from the hotels,
- 41:30Speaker 2: to the restaurants, to the shop. I feel it's worth it,
- 41:34Speaker 2: and it's not going away. The event is going to
- 41:36Speaker 2: be in Charleston for the next few years, and I feel,
- 41:39Speaker 2: and I've said since day one, it's a good thing
- 41:41Speaker 2: for Charleston. Not only Charleston, but the surrounding area. Is
- 41:44Speaker 2: because we don't have enough hotels in Charleston to hold
- 41:46Speaker 2: these people. So this helps out South Charleston, it helps
- 41:49Speaker 2: out Tays Valley, it helps out all the other areas
- 41:51Speaker 2: right here as well. For those of us that are
- 41:54Speaker 2: in Charleston have to work downtown Charleston. It is a
- 41:57Speaker 2: bit of inconvenience, yes, but having an event like this
- 42:00Speaker 2: in Charleston is huge. And one of the things that
- 42:04Speaker 2: always seems to surprise me is the number of people
- 42:08Speaker 2: who simply don't know what's going on in their own communities.
- 42:14Speaker 2: And that's not a Charleston thing. I mean, this seems
- 42:16Speaker 2: to go on everywhere. When you have far more people
- 42:20Speaker 2: concerned about voting on American idol as they have been
- 42:22Speaker 2: for years than you do for president, you're gonna get that.
- 42:26Speaker 2: And I hope that we do a good job, not
- 42:28Speaker 2: only us, but the other media entities here in the
- 42:32Speaker 2: Charleston air I hope we do a good job of
- 42:34Speaker 2: trying to keep you informed on air and online, but
- 42:36Speaker 2: sometimes people just choose not to be informed. And there's
- 42:43Speaker 2: a big event in Charleston. I saw people posting about
- 42:45Speaker 2: it yesterday saying what's going on? I mean, how could
- 42:49Speaker 2: you not know this? It's been everywhere. But there's a
- 42:55Speaker 2: lot more going on in Charleston this week too. Live
- 42:56Speaker 2: on the Levee starts later this week. You got high
- 42:59Speaker 2: school graduation, mentioned the run.
- 43:01Speaker 6: For the Wall.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Uh, it's a good problem to have, you know, I
- 43:07Speaker 2: mean that you have to that you got all these
- 43:10Speaker 2: things going on. I think it's a good problem to have,
- 43:11Speaker 2: kind of like roundabouts in Putnam County.
- 43:14Speaker 11: You you just have, in my.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Opinion, a section of the population that just lives to
- 43:20Speaker 2: complain about something, And Hey, who's this me? I'm complaining
- 43:24Speaker 2: about them right now. So there's that. Like the woman
- 43:28Speaker 2: on the Charleston Convention of Visitors Bureau Facebook page who
- 43:31Speaker 2: said there's nowhere to eat in Charleston. I suppose that
- 43:37Speaker 2: Sam's Uptown Cafe, Adelphia, Pies and Pints, Cocos, five Street,

- 47:07Speaker 2: ten times per device, a lot different than a presidential election. True,
- 47:11Speaker 2: very very good point by the Texter. I do appreciate that.
- 47:14Speaker 2: I'm hoping that we don't have people voting up to
- 47:16Speaker 2: ten times. We used to do that in West Virginia,
- 47:18Speaker 2: especially southern West Virginia where I'm from, but we don't
- 47:21Speaker 2: do that anymore. I hope actually we don't. Voter fraud
- 47:25Speaker 2: is you hear the occasional case every now and then
- 47:28Speaker 2: here in West Virginia in other areas, but it's usually
- 47:31Speaker 2: blown way out of proportion, and not the cases themselves.
- 47:34Speaker 2: They're very serious, but they are very very few and
- 47:37Speaker 2: far between. Okay, so it's a text with this money
- 47:41Speaker 2: and Regatta money needs to be used for bridge repairs.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Take a look at some of the videos of the
- 47:45Speaker 2: rotting bridges.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Texas.
- 47:48Speaker 2: I'm watching an Elon interview on Bloomberg. The stock ticker
- 47:52Speaker 2: is next to his picture and keeps going down. The
- 47:54Speaker 2: Launera speaks the guy who ruined his image and alienated
- 47:57Speaker 2: his based customers for Trump, and Trump's going to eventually
- 48:00Speaker 2: up him terrible deal. I was watching an article, or
- 48:02Speaker 2: watching an article. I was watching a piece on the
- 48:04Speaker 2: news the other day about Elon Musk, who's kind of
- 48:06Speaker 2: gone silent.
- 48:08Speaker 6: Uh.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Trump administration has not been touting him as a golden
- 48:11Speaker 2: boy a lot here lately, for one reason or another.
- 48:15Speaker 2: I don't know if that's by design they have. I
- 48:17Speaker 2: don't know if Doge wasn't turned out to be what
- 48:21Speaker 2: they thought it was going to be. But uh, you know,
- 48:23Speaker 2: I could be wrong, But what I saw on this piece,
- 48:25Speaker 2: I mean they've Trump administrations have been distancing themselves from
- 48:28Speaker 2: Elon here as of late. Tex says, I'm the cemetery
- 48:32Speaker 2: truck driver. I'd like to know where he knew he
- 48:34Speaker 2: made a wrong turn. Those roads in that cemetery are
- 48:36Speaker 2: barely big enough for a pickup truck, well one way
- 48:38Speaker 2: or the other. If you take a truck up there,
- 48:42Speaker 2: a semi truck and you wreck it. It kind of
- 48:46Speaker 2: reminds me, because I get I take every opportunity I
- 48:50Speaker 2: can to put a Caddyshack reference in there. It kind
- 48:52Speaker 2: of reminds me at the end of Caddy Shack and TJ.
- 48:56Speaker 2: Meadows is in the studio right now I know that
- 48:59Speaker 2: you're a Caddyshack. It's the greatest movie ever made. At
- 49:02Speaker 2: the end of Caddyshack when when they blow up, when
- 49:05Speaker 2: Bill Murray blows up the call golf course trying to
- 49:08Speaker 2: kill the gopher, and he puts simply puts his flamethrower
- 49:11Speaker 2: down and walks away like nothing never happened. I'm not
- 49:15Speaker 2: trying to make light of it, but that's what it
- 49:17Speaker 2: seems like happened with the cemetery story. Was the guy
- 49:20Speaker 2: basically or the person did this and then unhooked their
- 49:24Speaker 2: trailer and just jumped in the cab of the trump
- 49:26Speaker 2: and took off, And I guess thought nobody would know
- 49:28Speaker 2: me that they had overturned some headstones and whatever up there. Now,
- 49:33Speaker 2: I've seen a lot of information about this online. I
- 49:37Speaker 2: will say that, and I don't know how much of
- 49:40Speaker 2: it is true. That's why I'm not repeating it. The
- 49:42Speaker 2: police have not released a lot of information about that.
- 49:44Speaker 2: I've read the same articles that you are about the driver,
- 49:47Speaker 2: and but until it becomes official from the police department,
- 49:51Speaker 2: we're not going to talk about it on this showntil
- 49:53Speaker 2: we get an official statement from the police, as they say,
- 49:56Speaker 2: how you doing. Man, I'm good.
- 49:57Speaker 10: I'm not casting a light on all truckers. But when
- 50:01Speaker 10: I was in the fueling business, had one roll over
- 50:04Speaker 10: some ballards that were near a pump.
- 50:08Speaker 2: I've got video of it. There is no way, no way.
- 50:13Speaker 8: It was a guy.
- 50:13Speaker 2: This guy didn't understand he had done that, just kept
- 50:17Speaker 2: read on a truck.
- 50:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 50:19Speaker 2: But uh, And unfortunately, when you hear these stories TJ,
- 50:21Speaker 2: it it casts a negative light on all truckers. And
- 50:23Speaker 2: that's certainly, certainly not certainly, we do have a big problems.
- 50:28Speaker 2: We have a big well, we have a big problem
- 50:30Speaker 2: in this country too with with more and more drivers.
- 50:32Speaker 2: And we've talked about it on the Midday Show with
- 50:35Speaker 2: folks from the trucking industry that that can't speak English.
- 50:37Speaker 2: And I'm not trying to be you know, I'm not
- 50:39Speaker 2: trying to appear to be racist or anything. I'm just
- 50:41Speaker 2: saying it's a fact that if you're going to drive
- 50:42Speaker 2: on the roads, you should be able to read the
- 50:43Speaker 2: signs and and and many and the and the rules
- 50:46Speaker 2: have been relaxed so much to allow for this because
- 50:50Speaker 2: we don't have truckers anymore, and the and the freight's
- 50:53Speaker 2: got to move and so that's kind of where we are.
- 50:55Speaker 2: Either that or have signs that are bilingual. One of
- 50:58Speaker 2: the two, and that would really go overwhill. Yeah, that
- 51:01Speaker 2: wouldn't it? Yeah, that would really go And what language
- 51:03Speaker 2: are you gonna choose? You can't be bilingual, you gotta
- 51:05Speaker 2: be try or quad or something.
- 51:06Speaker 10: You ever spend a time in Canada, that's everything's at
- 51:08Speaker 10: French and English. I have when I was a kid
- 51:10Speaker 10: of a boy, we spent some time in Canada.
- 51:13Speaker 2: I remember it. Well, all right, what you got on
- 51:15Speaker 2: the show today, buddy.
- 51:17Speaker 10: So coming up at eleven oh six, Howard Monroe is
- 51:20Speaker 10: going to join us from The Watchdog in Wheeling, a
- 51:23Speaker 10: Metro News affiliate. We're gonna talk a little bit about
- 51:25Speaker 10: Joe Biden in that diagnosis, get more into the politics
- 51:29Speaker 10: of it's who knew what kind of like what we
- 51:31Speaker 10: did with you yesterday, and chew the fat. Howard has
- 51:34Speaker 10: some perspectives on that. Also coming up from the West
- 51:39Speaker 10: Virginia Center for Budget and Policy, Kelly Allens. She has
- 51:41Speaker 10: a breakdown of the big beautiful bill, okay and how
- 51:43Speaker 10: it will affect West Virginians. Brad McLean in the house
- 51:46Speaker 10: at ten thirty three. We'll talk to a I guess
- 51:51Speaker 10: you would call him a urologist and robotic surgeon. Okay,
- 51:54Speaker 10: from Mond Health about prostate cancer, what we need to
- 51:58Speaker 10: be doing.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Okay, all right, sounds good. I mean that doesn't sound good.
- 52:02Speaker 8: No, not at all.
- 52:02Speaker 2: The information will be good. Gotta get our check up. David,
- 52:05Speaker 2: you and I were getting older. I'm aware I'm ten
- 52:08Speaker 2: years older than you, remember that, right, but I'm not.
- 52:10Speaker 2: You know you're healthier than night. Yeah, I'm not. Uh,
- 52:12Speaker 2: you're a specimen. I'm very cranky is what I am.
- 52:15Speaker 2: The base of what they tell me. All Right, gotta go,
- 52:17Speaker 2: I'll see you later today Metro News Midday powered my
- 52:19Speaker 2: Selango all till then, have fun. I Love somebody.
