- Aleta: Xander and Tyler come looking for Beckett. And I had to laugh when they go hide in the stall. you weren't doing anything compromising at that point. You were just standing there talking in a bathroom where you're perfectly allowed to be. Greg Duffy: Avoiding suspicion. Aleta: except the fact that we have that scene in every vertical where they hide in the in Greg Duffy: In the bathroom. Aleta: the shower or the stall Declan: Literally. Aleta: or LUCY: I like it though. Don't touch that one. Leave it alone. Aleta: We were wondering about that scene because we assume, Greg, that you didn't actually lift Declan in that scene with your back being how it was. Greg Duffy: You guys are so good. You're Declan: With literally all types of shenanigans that's happening there. Greg Duffy: you're absolutely right. They were like to the credit of the whole team, they like, How can we figure this out? Like Greg, you know, Greg Aleta: Yeah. Greg Duffy: can't hold Declan for that long th because of his back. And they set up like a contraption that Declan like sat on. It was a bunch of apple bo declined apple boxes Declan: It i yeah, yeah. Greg Duffy: All stacked up. Declan: Yeah. Greg Duffy: Yeah. It they were like and then camera it took like a half an hour. Like camera was in there. Katie, who was our our DP, director of photography, like lead camera, and and the director, David and Jenny, were all in there. We're all in this bathroom stall. Like tiny bathroom stall. And it's first of all, they were gonna have initi Declan: Rang, do you remember where we were at first gonna do it? Greg Duffy: We were first gonna film this on the toilet seat. Declan straddling me LUCY: No Declan: So the toilet. We would be sitting on it. Greg Duffy: sitting on the toilet so that it looked like it was just me on the toilet. And so LUCY: No Greg Duffy: we were like Declan: Yeah. Greg Duffy: we were like, I don't think that's very sexy. Aleta: Ha ha. Greg Duffy: I don't think that's a good idea. But we were like, whatever, LUCY: Thank you for fixing it. Thank God. Greg Duffy: like, and then they were like We'll change it. So then we had to figure this out. Greg can't hold Declan. it was and we stacked all these things up and Camera was in the stall with us and had to be able to like get the shot and so it took a long time and a lot of like logistical discussions to get that right. But you're right, I was not holding him. Aleta: Yeah. Declan: And this was the day that I was the sickest. Like this was the So but they brought me in just for that scene that day. And this was filmed in the big locker room. So all the locker room scenes, which I think you've only really seen the ending of season one with Xander and Easton in the locker rooms, but that's all one big Yeah, that's all one big Greg Duffy: There's a lot more locker room stuff coming. Declan: complex. And so where Xander and Easton have their scene then to season one, I'm they're just like Here they've got like they're bringing over like all this stuff for me. I'm just like, my god. I looked like death warmed up until the makeup artist just like came and she was like I'm gonna wet Greg Duffy: Running on fumes. Declan: Carrie's like, I'm gonna wet your hair now, okay? I'm like LUCY: Mm-hmm. Aleta: Awwww Hahaha Greg Duffy: He was so unwell. Barely standing. Declan: I was so unwell. Then they barely standing. Then they gave me a like antiseptic mouthwash to put in every fifteen minutes because I was breathing next to Greg. I had a mask on in between setups so that like LUCY: Ham. Declan: could just and then I like they just and I was like, all right, we're doing it and I just get on these apple boxes and I'm just like on Greg like a little koala. Like Aleta: Ha ha ha Greg Duffy: Like can barely breathe. Aleta: Clinging on for dear life. Declan: In more ways than one, truly. Aleta: Ha ha. Declan: And I was like, LUCY: At least Declan: I I just have to do it. LUCY: At least you're able to do that with one of your best friends, right? Like it could have been so different with a stranger. Declan: Exactly. Greg Duffy: Yeah. Declan: Greg, I I don't know if I've even said this to him yet. Well I think I have, but you got me through that shoot. Aleta: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: No. Declan: You got me through the fires of everything that was going on and my body absolutely crumbling and you made me laugh and smile through it all, which is a testament to this man, the fact that I could have such an amazing time with him and yeah, you're the best. Literally. Greg Duffy: You were on death's door for a couple days. Declan: Ha ha. Greg Duffy: And it was so funny because Declan was apologetic to me about having to kiss and stuff. And when somebody apologized for being sick, I'm like, You didn't, you know, you had nothing to do with you. Like, you know, so I'm like, dude you don't never have to apologize being sick. And the kissing thing, listen, that's not your fault either. We're just in Aleta: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: here doing it. And no one's gonna die, so I was just like We'll do our very, very best. And then they had emergency, you know, like stuff on set to stay to keep your immune system up. Aleta: Mm. Greg Duffy: And it was great. Like Declan didn't die. And it looks good. Declan: It looks good. I wouldn't know. Greg Duffy: And I and obviously vice versa. I was not as ill as Declan at any point, but Aleta: Hm. Greg Duffy: you know, those long days and stuff, it is so much nicer to be opposite a really close friend LUCY: Mm. Greg Duffy: and just be like, We got this. And not only do we got this, but also to remind each other like this is we're very you know, I we I f we feel very fortunate, we feel very lucky to be able to to to even get cast in that project and to be cast opposite each other. So we are, you know, good at reminding each other and at the same time being like, Yeah, right now this moment You know, and we're just gonna get we're Declan: Yeah. Aleta: Ha ha ha. LUCY: Yeah. Greg Duffy: just gonna get through together. Aleta: After that scene, we see the Mr. Maplewood pageant being announced, and Cody realizes, I think at that point, that Beckett had used his hall pass from winning to save Cody from Price. And that if he can win, he can escape Xander by winning the private room, as well as to protect himself from Price. So the nice little struggle there with Beckett, who's like very I mean, you s he's really conceited, right? And he's like he's he's convinced he's gonna win regardless, but yeah. Greg Duffy: Well and there's this line that happens maybe a little bit later where Blair is like, I'm gonna make Cody win the Aleta: yeah. Greg Duffy: Mr. Maplewood pageant and I say something really hurtful, I'm like, He's gonna make a fool of himself. Like, don't do that. Aleta: yeah. Greg Duffy: You know, we're like, damn, that it really he it's always said off the top of his head, but it really shows like Beckett's point of view on himself, like and stuff, and it's hurtful. It's really hurtful. Aleta: Mm. Mm. Greg Duffy: But it's just LUCY: Mm. Greg Duffy: Beckett. Aleta: So Xander locks Cody out again, which again, I don't know. Locks were not a thing in doors in any boarding school I've ever seen. But Greg Duffy: Yeah. Aleta: anyway, locks him out and he goes looking for somewhere else to sleep, only to end up at Beckett's private suite. He says he Declan: Yeah. Aleta: was looking for Easton, and Beckett is not happy. Greg Duffy: Yeah. Aleta: Cody is surprised to see that Beckett has his own shower. Wants to know why Beckett showered with him. And Beckett turns it back to Easton because he's so jealous. And Beckett Greg Duffy: Mm-hmm. Aleta: says Greg Duffy: Y like you f you answer first why did you why are you looking for Easton? Aleta: You said you kiss me. Greg Duffy: you kiss me and then n and now you're looking for Easton? Declan: And I say something along the lines of you have no right to be upset about Easton when you have a whole girlfriend, remember? A whole girlfriend, not just a half a girlfriend, a whole girlfriend. Greg Duffy: A whole girlfriend. So funny. A whole a whole girlfriend. LUCY: Good job. Aleta: Ha ha. Beckett comes out of the bathroom in bright blue boxers, causing Cody to drop the photo that he's looking at. I love the little the little wink close up with the ding that made me laugh too. The sound effects Declan: So cute. LUCY: I remember this. So, Greg, when you lean against the doorframe immediately so okay, this is probably my favorite Greg pose ever now. You lean against the doorframe, it's very book talk, and it's like you're Greg Duffy: Yeah. LUCY: almost like peacocking for Cody. And I Greg Duffy: Mm-hmm. LUCY: thought, I was like, the look Greg just gave, that could compete with skies. Like Sky Kawhi. I was like full. I was impressed. Greg Duffy: What an honor. LUCY: Yes. Declan: Record is feeling hot. Greg Duffy: I mean Sky Kawhi LUCY: Yes. Greg Duffy: is among the hottest of the hot Aleta: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: and has some iconic looks, so if I'm compared to him LUCY: Well, you are too, but I hadn't seen look you that was I mean, you were able to be like, Hey, 'cause Brady peacocking was like hilarious. But this but this was like Aleta: yeah. Greg Duffy: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Brady yeah, Brady like really insecure. LUCY: but this was like the role you got to kinda play where you're like, I know I'm hot as fuck and you I was just it was a new thing for me to get to see you kind of do that. I was like, Hell yeah, go Greg Aleta: Ha ha ha. Greg Duffy: You know, it's funny, I don't know if I've said this before, but like when you ask about what people listen to playlisting wise, like if you create a playlist for a character, mine for this was like bad boy playlists, like nonstop on the way to set, and it was a lot of like it in the vein of you want a bad boy, which is just kind of this confident, arrogant, and so I was embodying a lot Aleta: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: of that kind of bad boy, bad bitch energy. And there's a lot of like Britney and it's a lot of like so, that's what I that's what I was drawing from. I had like listen to that, channel it, and then try to deliver it. Declan: And worked. LUCY: Yep. It did. It did work. Declan: I was feeling it. Greg Duffy: Drop the photo. LUCY: Cody was definitely feeling it. Aleta: So they get into bed. Cody Declan: that's Aleta: West. They get into bed and Cody puts up a pillow barricade, much to Beckett's amusement. And I really I'm sorry, I really like this this little exchange here. And Beckett says Do you remember what he says when when he sees the pillows? Is that Greg Duffy: is that to keep you away from me or me away from you? Aleta: Yeah. Declan: I don't know anymore. It's like the universe wants us together or something. Greg Duffy: Yeah. LUCY: And Declan: Mm-hmm. LUCY: what did you say, Greg? Aleta: The last one. Greg Duffy: Declan, Declan, you got me here? Declan: You're so fucking cute it's annoying. Greg Duffy: yeah. Aleta: Yeah, I thought that was so cute. Greg Duffy: Yeah. Aleta: And Cody has already fallen asleep. Greg Duffy: So good. So funny. And then I yeah, I look LUCY: We made it. Greg Duffy: over the pillows just to see he's Aleta: Yeah. LUCY: Yes, Declan: Yeah, easy thing. LUCY: you do. It was so cute. And you look so cute sleeping, Declan. I was gonna say we made it to part two. Here we go. My part. Declan: Let's get on hit. Greg Duffy: Who Aleta: Ha ha ha. LUCY: Okay, well we'll see. I gosh, you guys are gonna be so disappointed at the end, but we'll see. Okay. So Cody passes out very quickly, Cody, and is woken up in the middle of the night to Beckett having a nightmare, but not a nightmare. Cody quickly discovers that whoopsie Beckett is dreaming about him. I found it funny that also at this scene, magically, all the barricade pillows were gone. You just happened to turn around. Yep. Greg Duffy: Somehow. Somehow. LUCY: I am leaving a bunch of stuff out because you are the actors, and I am not going that far into it with you here unless you start it. But they've here here we go. You both fall. Aleta: You know she'd be talking about it if you weren't here. LUCY: If you weren't here, there was things I would Greg Duffy: yeah. LUCY: say, but I can't look you in the eye. So they fall back asleep and they wake up cuddling, and I loved this part. So cute. Greg Duffy: There's weird. LUCY: There's not enough cuddling in BL's. I'm like, come on. Yeah. I know. Way more Greg Duffy: Totally. Totally. Declan: let's cuddle more. LUCY: cuddles. Damn it. So Cody and Beckett have a little morning argument. Currently, Cody and Beckett's favorite thing to do together is argue. And Greg Duffy: Right. LUCY: Are interested in doing more than argue, but Cody confesses he's never done this before. Beckett asks him, How does he know he's gay then? Obviously, if you've never done anything, which Cody promptly tells him, Being gay is and I know you said this line earlier. Declan: Being gay isn't just about sex. It's about feelings and attraction and love. LUCY: And about wanting every part of another person. Declan: god It's yes, it is. It is also about wanting every part of another person. That I remember now. LUCY: Yes Beautiful line Becket asks Cody to show him and Snap Blair catches our heroes in a most compromising position. Damn mm hmm. Declan: Mm. We Greg Duffy: Literally, Declan: w w the I just want to add in here very quickly that when we did a rehearsal of that, that the door was not screwed onto the hinges properly and that door went flying off its hinges. And I wish they were rolling on that 'cause can you imagine Greg Duffy: They weren't rolling. Declan: how good that would have been. Boom. That would have been Greg Duffy: Blair pushes Aleta: Ha ha. Greg Duffy: open the door and it just goes pew poo. The entire Aleta: Ha ha ha. Greg Duffy: door fell fall. Declan: Ha ha ha. LUCY: That would have been awesome. I'm sad. We should have tried to recreate it. Aleta: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: But no. It was all it was we all died laughing, it was amazing. No one was injured. LUCY: That's good. Declan: No one. LUCY: I'm glad. Glad. I do love here, Greg, you hopping out of bed. Beckett's in the blue shorts that hypnotize Cody. And I love the way as you're trying to get the boxes on. Come back, come back, come back. Greg Duffy: That was a I that was like a physical improv moment where like LUCY: Really? Greg Duffy: it's like what would happen here and I think the line might have been just come back. I forget what the line was. But it was like how can we make this kind of fun? And so it was like he's tripping over himself, he's trying to put his clothes on, he's trying to yell, come back, come back, come back. It's like urging he's to stop her, but it's funny. So that was a fun little moment of yeah, physical improv. LUCY: It it was one of my favorite moments of the whole vertical too. So I've got like a few, like that was another one. It was adorable. Greg Duffy: Yeah, yeah, yeah. LUCY: An argument ensues. Blair accusing Beckett that she that he left her for being bicurious. And Beckett telling her he doesn't like her because she's her. Greg Duffy: Yeah. LUCY: Ouch. Q, one of the clues that Leo likes Blair. I didn't catch this until like the second. rewatch, so that was kind of interesting for me. I didn't catch it the first time. A bet is born. Beckett says he will win Mr. Maplewood with Blair's without Blair's help this time. And if she du if he does, she has to admit to him that he never needed her. Blair wants to make sure Cody wins Mr. Maplewood. And if he does, Beckett needs to admit he needs Blair. So Declan, I remember you talking about how they described Cody as ugly in the script. Absolute madness, I tell you. I immediately Declan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. LUCY: thought of you saying that when Greg Duffy: Mm. LUCY: she says, if I can put a crown on this guy, Declan: Mm-hmm. LUCY: of course, all the actors are gorgeous, but you are beyond, so what the heck? Seriously. I find it funny that they are trying to convince us that you are not gorgeous. Also, funny part here for me telling Easton. Sh where Blair tells Easton, You're gay, so you're gonna be useful. Greg Duffy: Awesome, yeah. Like she's problematic too, you know. LUCY: Yeah yes. Declan: She has some really funny stuff. Aleta: Ha ha LUCY: She did it really well too. She really, really did. Greg Duffy: Yeah. LUCY: this part made me laugh. at the end here, I think I think I and I might mess this up, but I think Beckett tells is it Leo? Yeah, it's Nick's Declan: Mm-hmm. Aleta: Mm. LUCY: character. Greg Duffy: Yeah. LUCY: You're obsessed with Blair. And so he does like a little mimic. You're obsessed with Blair. Yeah. Declan: Yeah, I was so played. Greg Duffy: Yeah. Aleta: you're obsessed with there. Yeah. Greg Duffy: A lot of Nick stuff LUCY: And I thought Greg Duffy: was improv too. Declan: Yeah. LUCY: It was cute and I was gonna ask how was it working with Nick? 'Cause we know him from next door and we love him from next door. Greg Duffy: I love Nick to death. I love Nick to death. I think he's so funny. I think he's you know, he You'll get to know him more in the f in the coming verticals, but he's just like comic relief all the time. He's like willing to say something that like no one's willing to say in the sense that he's just like calling it like he sees it. He like he's a straight shooter in that way, but it's very funny. Declan: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: And I have been wanting to work with Nick for so long. This I th I think enough time has passed to say this. I was supposed to be I was cast in next door. LUCY: What? Greg Duffy: I was cast in next door. This is some tea for you. Aleta: You should have been the musician, yeah. Declan: I've encouraged him. I told you. Greg Duffy: I know I don't want to take away from anyone who, you know, eventually takes on a part. Yeah. LUCY: They still did amazing. But yeah, yeah. Greg Duffy: I was cast and I was already shooting something else and they conflicted. I wanted to do next door so badly. He's a musician, whatever. I want so Nick and I had had chem reads for next door. And I like loved chem reading with him, and then I saw I I just could I had made commitments, I had signed paperwork, I was already on set for something else, like it just it wasn't possible. They wouldn't move the dates, whatever. and so I saw next door come out and I was like, my god, that's like it looks so good. and I was I was really upset. I was like, ugh, I just wish I could have. And so that happens in this line of work. And so I had been I knew of Nick for since then. And I was like, I want to work with him so badly. And when I found out he got cast, I like, that's so great and then getting to know him was like w even better than I imagined. He is so funny. He I think he's exceptionally talented. He's really willing to take a risk. and you'll see that in the coming parts of the trilogy. But what a great presence on set. Made me laugh like like harder than anybody. Yeah. Declan: Definitely. Definitely. Definitely. Aleta: Mm-hmm. Declan: He's our manic pixie LUCY: I can't wait. Declan: fairy and we love him. Greg Duffy: Mm-hmm. LUCY: Is that his nickname? 'Cause I love it. Declan: Yeah. Aleta: Ha ha ha ha. Declan: He he from from the first Greg Duffy: Totally. Declan: group catch up for sure. Greg Duffy: Like like loves a little bit of chaos. Declan: Love Agent of Chaos for sure. And we we loved it. We we loved it. Greg Duffy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So fun. Mischievous. Declan: Mm-hmm. LUCY: So cute. Greg Duffy: Yeah. LUCY: my goodness. So the next scene where Easton and Cody are talking about what happened with Beck Beckett, Declan, I see the dramatic pause for an interactive scene. So was Declan: Mm-hmm. LUCY: this originally supposed to be interactive? Declan: This was never interactive, but they do like a dramatic pause on episode holds. So someone would LUCY: Okay. Declan: always be episode hold five, four, three, two, one. Boom. Back into it. So yeah. Greg Duffy: 'Cause the episode holds are not at scene breaks, right? It's a continu Declan: Mm. Greg Duffy: almost always like a continuation of the same scene. So Declan: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: there's not a natural pause, like scene's over in an episode break. So they call out the episode break so that yeah, so that there's a little bit of a a pause for the what's gonna happen. LUCY: Okay. Declan: Two LUCY: Then I think Declan: yeah. LUCY: I'm just so used to you and those interactives. Like I was like, he's primed, he's ready, where's the choice? And it was like it stopped Aleta: Ha ha ha Declan: He's ready. Where is it gonna come up? LUCY: Well, in each point, like it could have been a f a a choice, like a choose your own adventure. I thought that was interesting. Declan: Mm-hmm. Totally. How did you guys feel that it wasn't interactive? Did you like it being not interactive? Happy? Lead LUCY: I'm happy w yes, please. Yeah. Yeah. We're good. Declan: up? Yeah. Aleta: Yeah, I prefer not interactive, yeah. LUCY: I okay, here's the thing. I love the interactives because I love choose your own adventure. My issue is that like most fans are paying twenty dollars just for one week and then they want you to purchase coins on top of that to do it. So a lot Declan: Mm. LUCY: of fans, when it was one of your shows, Declan, they would get coins. So a lot of people were paying for a week and then getting coins for interactive passes. So because they really wanted to see you in Sky. It was still awesome. but yeah, I think that's where the struggle bus is, is we're like, just let pay twenty bucks for a week, that's already a lot of money. Declan: That's it. Yeah. Greg Duffy: It's a lot Declan: Yeah. Yeah. Greg Duffy: of it is a lot of money. Declan: Yeah. LUCY: It is. And we'll do it just for like your show 'cause we love you guys, you Aleta: Yeah. LUCY: know? That yeah, Alita did it for this one. Aleta: Yeah, of course. But yeah, Declan: Mm-hmm. Aleta: it would be annoying if you had to have the coins as well. 'Cause you know, you LUCY: Mm-hmm. Aleta: want all the premium choices. Like, you don't want to watch the PG one. Declan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: Totally. LUCY: Exactly. Okay, so this felt like an important scene because Easton really makes his intentions known here, telling Cody that he's there if he's looking for something real. But Declan: Yeah. LUCY: clearly Cody cannot get Beckett out of his head. Yikes. Cody is saved from answering by Blair who pulls out What? Declan, is that your suit? Did you bring that from home? Declan: I told you always they they Aleta: Ha ha ha. Declan: they say can you bring suit options? And I'm like, Okay. And they always choose that one. And that Greg Duffy: It's a great suit. Declan: it was in Falling for My Ex's Mafia Dad as well. And this one. I don't think it's been in anything else. I think those are the Waterboy, Falling for My Ex's Mafia Dad and this. But they love that suit. So kudos Sky. Great taste. Greg Duffy: It's a great suit. Declan: Thank you. LUCY: It looks good on you. It does. It does look good on you. my goodness. Guys, Beckett is at the clothing store too? Of course he is. And he just lets himself into the dressing room. And I think I overheard in your live boys that the temperature was really hot in this scene and not in a fun way. Declan: It was hot. Greg Duffy: like a hundred and twenty degrees and it wasn't an air conditioned like place. It was all just open air and we were in the desert. And we were then in the dressing room, which had these like velvet Declan: Yeah. Greg Duffy: curtains, and then two cameras and camera people in the small dressing room with us. It was like I mean poor Declan, because you were still sick too. Declan almost passed out. And LUCY: My God, really? Declan: Remember when they like took us t to the car and you had like the popsicle in the car? Greg Duffy: Yeah, yeah. In between takes they gave us they put us in the air conditioned cars, the only place that had AC basically. And and they did give us popsicles, so I started eating this like bright blue popsicle. I l like love popsicles. And then I was like I was like licking it, I like Aleta: Ha ha ha ha Greg Duffy: I don't think I can have this. So I was like Yeah. Aleta: Ha ha Declan: Good practice for what happened later in the scene. Greg was st staying in character. He was method. Aleta: Ha ha ha. LUCY: That's right. Greg Duffy: Practice. I was like a little kid with a popsicle and then I had to like I was like, I don't think I can have and you're yeah, you're right, you can't. I was like, okay. I'm so sad. LUCY: Did you get all the popsicles you wanted when it was over? Aleta: Ha ha ha. Greg Duffy: I don't I don't think we had popsicles after that. I don't know why. They were like probably melted. I have no idea. Yeah. That's okay. It survived. Declan: And melted. Rest in peace. LUCY: That's sad. my god. Greg Duffy: But yeah, like seriously we had to it might be hydrating, we'd take a lot of pauses because Declan also I mean both of us were heavily breathing. Hyperventilating in the scene. It's like, what's happening? What's so sexy? Whatever. And that also is not a recipe for success when you're trying to not pass out in the heat. Declan: Totally. LUCY: Yes. The fans and Declan are treated to a spicy scene here. But there are no cuddles Greg Duffy: Exactly. LUCY: afterward. Well Declan's our honorary fangirl, so I know he was happy for it too. Aleta: Ha ha ha Greg Duffy: Right. Yeah. LUCY: But there are no cuddles after word. Womp womp. Cody calls Beckett out on whether he could handle the heat that comes with being out as gay. Beckett seems to be frustrated because he feels like Cody is going to choose Easton over him. He storms off promising to win Mr. Maplewood. Here we go, guys. Mr. Maplewood pageant time. Mm-hmm. Declan: Maplewood pageant. LUCY: All of our male leads appear to be competing. I like when Beckett walks out to the girls screaming, you looked perfectly at home here, Greg. Aleta: Ha ha. Greg Duffy: Yeah. LUCY: That's by the way, I think that's real life footage there, the girls of your subscriber chat when you wear guy liner. Declan: Yeah. LUCY: That's what it looks like when you show up. Yep. Greg Duffy: Just losing it. Feral as y as as I as you say. LUCY: Yep, they go feral. in this part, Beckett sees Cody walking up in his perfect was it Waterboy? Was Waterboy, you said that right? Yep, Waterboy suit. I call it the sky suit. It's slow-mo. Declan: Waterboy, yeah. Yeah. LUCY: Beckett is so entranced, so cute. And then Beckett ruins the moment by saying, It won't be enough to beat him. Dang. And the talent show. I like this here. Tyler's Talent is origami and the girls scream Declan: Screaming. Greg Duffy: So funny. LUCY: and then Beckett's talent is a sexy dance. So Aleta: Mm-hmm. LUCY: did you make this dance up Greg or was it choreographed? Aleta: Ha ha Greg Duffy: Well, the morning of the shoot, the director, David, was like in between scenes was like, hey Greg, come here. So later we're shooting this dancing, what are you gonna do for that? I was like, What am I gonna I don't I thought you were gonna have ideas about that. And in the script, there's actually a a specific reference. It says, like in off campus, the TV show. There's I I didn't watch off campus, but there's a character, the one of the lead characters, does a dance like this in the show off campus. And so I did YouTube it. I was like, what's this? you know? And this scene is basically like this character who's like he's a hot guy, but the dance is like kind of just like a guy who doesn't know how to dance dancing. not it's not embarrassing, but the only thing that makes it not embarrassing, I think, is like the aura and the confidence. Like he looks good. He's not second-guessing himself. So I said that to David. I was like, listen, first of all, my back, my vertebrae are are hanging by a thread. You're not gonna see me move LUCY: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: with a lot of like smoothness. I can barely like walk without kind of being like awkward. And so I was like, I watched the reference and I think I can do it. I think I can do it. He was like, okay, great. And so all I could do when when that scene came up was like, I'm just going to own like I am God's gift to Earth while I do this dance. And it's not gonna be about the movement specifically, it's gonna be about how I think how I how good I think that it is as a character. And, you know, at the beginning of that scene the girls come in and they sit and they're like, I hear Beckett's gonna do it. Damn, like or whatever, Beckett's gonna do something so cool. So the environment already exists for Beckett to succeed. LUCY: Yeah. Greg Duffy: And what I like about the dance, it I choreographed it basically, where I have the I take the jacket off, I throw it. But other than that, I'm kinda like walking left to right. I'm like giving, you know, a smile and a head nod and a wink, like these things that are not dancing, you know? And I want it to be that because Beckett can do almost nothing and still get cheers. And it's about his Aura, his Casanova attitude, and that's what sells it. And so in the end I was really happy with how it came out because there's not much dancing but you could imagine like the girls kinda going for it because he just he thinks he's all that and that translates to the crowd, you know. LUCY: It does. It it really does. Greg Duffy: That was my preparation for that scene. You know, like I was like if otherwise I'm screwed. If I have to actually dance. I'm screwed. Good, I'm glad to hear that. I was nervous. I was really nervous. I didn't know how it was gonna Declan: Ha ha LUCY: It turned out really well. No, I liked it. That was perfect. Well, we get Aleta: Hm. Greg Duffy: look. LUCY: it it did come out good. It came out how you wanted it too. we do get Cody's talent now reciting a poem and the ladies are ruthless here. My God. You're killing me. That Greg Duffy: Ruthless. LUCY: had to be a little intense on stage. I don't know. Even acting. Yeah, like Greg Duffy: Like booing him and stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Declan: It was. LUCY: Jeez. Beckett doesn't like that by the way. He yells at the ladies in the audience and tells them Cody is gonna perform and they are going to like it. He's forgetting his purpose. That's Greg Duffy: Eee Totally. And then Let's go Cody! Aleta: Mm-hmm. Ha ha ha. LUCY: right. He feels protective of his man. So we get a beautiful poem from Cody which makes all the girls cry. And Declan, did the writers write the poem? Okay. It Declan: They did. They did. Aleta: Ha ha ha. Declan: Absolutely. LUCY: was cute. Declan: All from their their amazing brains. Greg Duffy: It was s yeah, it's a great poem. LUCY: Yeah. And Cody becomes the winner. So once again, Declan is in a lovely crown. They love putting you with your crowns. That's right. That's right. You're our king. I love that. I do Declan: I know. It's the underdog story. It's beautiful. It's the first time he's won anything. Aleta: Mm-hmm. LUCY: have a question for both of you here though. we only got to see three talents. So what do you think Leo, Easton, and Xander's talent would have been? Greg Duffy: I forget if we talked about this on set. Declan: Well, the thing is I thought Easton's would have been poetry 'cause he's a writer. Aleta: Mm. Greg Duffy: Yeah. Declan: but let's say that I would say e Easton's would be some sort of like satirical stand up comedy maybe Greg Duffy: Mm. Declan: since he's a writer. Xanders would be Greg Duffy: I think some display of like strength. Some like punching bag thing, some like Declan: Yeah. Greg Duffy: squeezing a watermelon or an apple in between his you know, bicep and it pfft Declan: Yeah. And then Leo's would be like a f a fire show, bat baton twirling. Greg Duffy: Well Leo is an artist too, right? You'll see l you'll see later in Aleta: Mm. Greg Duffy: the in the later seasons there's some like visuals and stuff that he makes, so I don't know how that would translate to a talent show. Declan: Who draws a picture of Blair on the spot? Greg Duffy: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. LUCY: There you Aleta: They should LUCY: go. Aleta: have made Tyler something with fire Greg Duffy: Like a five minute. Aleta: 'cause don't they mention that he was a firebug if you set anything else on fire here? Declan: Maybe well maybe Greg Duffy: Yes. Well it's interest yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's interesting. It's a tr Declan: Are we actually in there for the crimes we committed? LUCY: Ooooo I like it. Okay. Greg Duffy: And that was the inspiration for the f first few lines of the chorus of the song was this reference to like pyro Aleta: Mm. Mm. Greg Duffy: maniacs and like strike a match, say hello to the main attractions, strike a match, start a chain reaction, burn it down and walk off laughing. That fire imagery is really comes from some of that reference. LUCY: I need to break your song down then line by line, lyric by lyric, Declan: So good. LUCY: to get the clues for the next Yeah. Greg Duffy: There's a lot of stuff in there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's some Easter some Easter eggs in this in the song, for sure. Aleta: It reminds me of Walk Away too. LUCY: Okay. Greg Duffy: Yeah, similar imagery. LUCY: After the competition, Greg Duffy: Totally. LUCY: Easton finds Cody and tells him that Becket is one lucky man. Cody tries to deny it, but Easton calls him on his bullshit and says if Beckett ever screws up to just let him know. I can really actually see a Cody and Easton thing going on here. You and Ben do have chemistry, Declan. I Declan: Hmm. LUCY: actually never ever thought to pair the two of you together before. And I've done a whole lot of like who should go with Declan: Yeah. LUCY: who, but I can see it. I would love you both in your own BL together. I feel so greedy like you. Watch you with all the boys. Aleta: What all Greg Duffy: So wanna work with Aleta: of you with all of you, yeah. Greg Duffy: all of them? That's fine. Declan: Like sorry, no one else is working this year 'cause I need other boys. LUCY: All the boys. That's right. Greg Duffy: We would work with all of you know, send us on another project. LUCY: That's right, that's right. so Declan, would Ben be the next leading star in a BL you are hoping for? Declan: For me. LUCY: Mm-hmm. Declan: Yeah, like after that experience, yeah like I I I'd never sort of pictured us or considered us in a show together. You sort of think of different pairings and and what might work and then but I think it did really like click and I'm so glad that it did because I really liked in this storyline that there was a strong contender. for Beckett and I I would have loved if we could have done that more in Stable Boy with Maverick as well, 'cause I think that could have worked super well. Greg Duffy: Yeah. Declan: but I'm glad that we got that with this because sometimes the romantic pairing in a in a V L in the the verticals i it is actually like there's a lot of red flags leading up to this Aleta: Mm-hmm. Declan: stuff in normal dating. And I love that they presented Easton as this option of someone who was comfortable in who they were, who who was, you know, incredibly forward and direct with how they felt and no games. And Greg Duffy: Mature. Declan: very mature and, you know that's that's kind of the l the love that you should go for, but also like your heart goes where it goes and But yeah, I look I was just really happy with this storyline that we got an e I think this is a a common experience for a lot of people, the the guy you should want And the guy you actually do want sometimes. And it was really fun to explore that dynamic. But I was really taken aback by how much it did click with Ben and I I would really love to do something with him as well. But we were so blessed, everyone this cast was so exceptionally talented. And, you know, I really loved getting to do scenes with both him and Greg. It was such a treat. I was spoiled. LUCY: You were spoiled. We were spoiled though too, because everyone did great. Aleta: Mm-hmm. LUCY: Alrighty, Beckett stops the interaction with Easton and Cody, very frustrated. Apparently, he also had the keys to the headmaster's office and just manhandles Cody into it. We're not upset. Beckett's Aleta: Mm. LUCY: jealousy is awesome here, by the way. Us romance girlies always love a jealous alpha in our stories. This is a big moment. Beckett fully confesses to Cody here that he wants him. do you remember your line here, Greg? It's okay if you don't. Greg Duffy: Yeah, no no, I do, I do do. Like If it's not real for me, why does my heart pound whenever I'm around you? That one? No. I want my first time LUCY: This one I think that's Greg Duffy: to be with you? LUCY: Th those are all in there eventually. I think this one was Aleta: Ha ha ha. LUCY: I want you Cody out loud. For real. Greg Duffy: for real in front of everyone. LUCY: Yes. Greg Duffy: Yeah. LUCY: And then you said I hope you want me to And then it was so do you want me there you go And then Cody, what do you say? Declan: Course I do, you idiot. Greg Duffy: Mm. LUCY: Yay the desperate kiss and then the boom boom scene. Greg Duffy: Boom bo. Declan: Never done this before except in six verticals before you Greg Duffy: Except with multiple other people on screen. LUCY: it's beautiful. We'll just Greg Duffy: Same here. Multiple partners. LUCY: that's right. Declan: Okay. LUCY: And then we're gonna just leave it there because we have actors here with us, so we won't go into detail. But I was going to ask all sorts of terrible things, but we're good. We're good. No. It was gonna Declan: What were you going to say? What I wanna hear some of them. You're gonna give me something. Aleta: Ha ha ha! Greg Duffy: Please. LUCY: be like it was okay. god, what do I say? There was a really great The hand holding scene and then the like, Aleta: Mm. LUCY: you know, there just we'll just go with that, okay? But Greg Duffy: Yeah. LUCY: you did great, boys. Great job. Ten out of ten. You did us proud. I there was Declan: We need to know if we did you proud. LUCY: my god, I don't know if I'll ever be able to say this, but you just did your job right. I there was no complaints on the intimacy. None. You gu this was top tier BL for us. So some of the best. Greg Duffy: Yes. We want to make you proud. Aleta: Mm. Declan: yeah. LUCY: that's right. We were gonna ask you for the intimate scenes and I know you probably already answered this, but maybe especially in these like hotter ones, it was it really just easier 'cause you both are great friends, like was it just easier to get into it? Aleta: Or was it weird because you're friends? LUCY: Yeah. that's even better. Yeah. Greg Duffy: Wasn't weird. I think because we've also done it on screen before. It wasn't our first project. And so we both are quite familiar with like how the process works, how to work with an AMC coordinator. And we were just so excited to work across from each other. So the level of tr it it wasn't weird. The level of trust is so built in Sometimes you know, we've both had co stars we've met on set and then you get intimate with them like sometimes day one. And so LUCY: Yeah. Greg Duffy: the safety allows for the organic feel. so being friends help in this case, for sure. It was like LUCY: Ha ha Declan: Yeah. Yeah, I think so. I think that like my I felt so safe with Greg onset and my nervous system just felt so like at peace with him and I just knew there was just like so much trust and safety and we could say, you know, whatever the other person needed at any time and we both had like the same goal in mind, which was to make something really beautiful. And so yeah, I was really interested to see how it translated being such close friends with someone versus someone you've just met, whether it retains the same feeling of like electricity and holding your breath 'cause you do you ha have more of a sense of trust and ease with a person you've known for so long. but I was really thrilled when I saw it back and I I thought it looked really beautiful. So yeah, it's it was just really intro I was like, I wonder how this is gonna like tur like look and turn out. and yeah, I was stoked. LUCY: Yeah, they did a good job. So the scene all the fans were waiting for had a timely interruption. Their teacher, Mr. Ward, the good teacher, catches them. It turns out though that the headmaster is on his way and Mr. Ward shoves the boys in the closet. Rude. The queer verticals always love doing this. So what Declan: Okay. LUCY: Yep. When the headmaster arrives, Mr. Ward takes the heat to make sure the boys don't get discovered. Telling him he wants the headmaster's job and he broke his trophy in a fit of pique. That was cute little wine there. The headmaster starts laughing. Neither am I Greg Duffy: I had l literally never heard of Fit of Peak. I was like, Do you guys have you heard this before? Declan: Greg Greg in the clo closet, you were so funny, you were like peek. Greg Duffy: I was like, Fit of Peak. I was like, should we should we change somebody should change this? I've never heard that before. And then I did say LUCY: No. Greg Duffy: something. I brought it up. I was like, guys, Fit of Aleta: Ha ha ha. Greg Duffy: Peak, are people saying that? And people are yeah, yeah, people say that. Like, not anyone I know. But that's okay. Fit of peak. P-I-Q-P-I-Q-U-E. Like peaked interest. I've no idea. LUCY: No. No. That's okay. Never heard of it. That's right. Declan: Yeah. Greg Duffy: No idea. Maybe. I guess. Aleta: You're all too young. LUCY: I guess so. Is that something you used to say, Alita? Aleta: I mean in I've s in books. I yeah, it's not something that I would say. But yeah. LUCY: Okay, not that old. Okay, okay. Anyway, the headmaster starts laughing and tells him he's fired. And we notice Mr. Ward is Adam Huss. I play said that right. Yeah. Declan: Yes, yes. LUCY: so I was gonna ask what it was like working with him guys. We know he's done some soaps and has a big career. Declan: He's such a sweetheart. He's got Yeah. Yeah. Such Greg Duffy: Love him. Sorry, go ahead. Declan: No, no, no. Yeah. We're both, yeah. I mean, I think just such a warm, beautiful soul Greg Duffy: Yeah. Declan: and I the thing that struck me about Adam is his eyes have so much heart. Like Greg Duffy: Very gentle. Declan: Yeah, it's just like, my gosh. Yeah, and he's s he's such an ally in the series as well, which is so fun and yeah, such a such an Greg Duffy: Yeah. Declan: amazing amazing actor, so You know, you meet he's the classic example of someone who has had such a successful career, so much experience, but gives you a hundred percent of their presence. And it's Greg Duffy: Mm. Declan: never it he he's so humble and not making anything a about himself, which he has every right to do, and just such a giving scene partner, professional on set as well. And I just think he's like an exemplary standard of how like to be on set and as a person. Just yeah. Greg Duffy: Totally. I I mean I ev everything he said is so true. And his character, Mr. Ward, really like is a similar vibe to him as a person. Like very soft, sweet, like kind, like super kind. And he just just such an aura. So it's so funny. I'll even say this 'cause this is I think funny and also tells you something about him. We were like walking out upset one day and we had had a lot of scenes together. Actually I think it was probably the day we shot this, that scene, in the office. And we were talking about like life and whatever, and he was like, like you know are you s something like are you dating or something? And I was like, Declan: He asked us if we were together. Cause Greg and I were like attached at the hip this whole shoot. We just want everyone to know. Greg Duffy: that's what that's why it came up. That's why it came up. I was trying remember. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah. Aleta: Ha ha ha Greg Duffy: no. But it was like a sweet I yeah, and then I threw up in a bush. Aleta: Yeah. Greg Duffy: no. It was a really like Aleta: Is he's face? LUCY: Did you really? Greg Duffy: I'm kidding, I'm kidding. No, no, I thought I were actors. Yeah, I was violently ill LUCY: Okay, I took that so seriously. I was like, holy shit Good job. Aleta: Ha ha Greg Duffy: at those at the thought of it. and and that's why I remember it being kind of very organic. Like if I kind of have a like a reasonable question, because we were obviously we're just so close and we were close on set, and then we have all this intimacy and we have all these scenes together with Adam. And I was like, and you know what? Like, I'm going to friends now and I'm being I for internet dating is like it's just so fraught and and so I'm like, I don't have enough time. So I'm going to friends and I'm like, introduce me to your friends. You know what I mean? Like that's kind of more organic. People are getting off the apps and stuff. And and he was so he was like, I will. you know what? I'm gonna do that. Like he's like, I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna think of someone great for you. You know what I mean? And he took it like really seriously. It was I thought it was so Aleta: Good. Declan: Like I got options. Greg Duffy: Cute. I thought it was so like kind and kinda silly, but that's we got close in the short amount of time that we worked together. I thought he was so he was just like y I trusted him a lot. Like he he had that LUCY: Mm. Greg Duffy: had that energy about him. Declan: I also love that you're like, I'm gonna like organically meet people through friends, but then you're like, so friends, who you got for me? Greg Duffy: yeah, no no no no no. No, this LUCY: Did it work out? Greg Duffy: is yeah, we're not talking like ambiguously Yeah, sometime, Declan: We're not talking about what happened in your life. We need Greg Duffy: some place no no no no no no. I want you to go through your mental Rolodex of your friends who you respect and introduce me to them. Declan: Open your buttons right now. Greg Duffy: yeah. He took it like a it was like so funny. LUCY: Well, okay. If if you end up in a committed relationship in the next few months, we'll thank Adam. Beautiful. Declan: Exactly. Greg Duffy: Yeah, yeah, thank Adam. Thank Adam. LUCY: hey, I was gonna say just another deviation, guys. Aleta: I will say I didn't ask for it, but twenty six years set up by friends, so Greg Duffy: Set up by friends. LUCY: There you go. Greg Duffy: It's such a it's just such a good vetted person, right? Aleta: I had a list. I had a list. A l Greg Duffy: Like they provided a list to you. Aleta: No no. I had a list of what I was looking for in a person. And my best friend knew it and she ran into one of our other friends and she was like, I know a guy. LUCY: There it goes. Greg Duffy: That's what I'm talking about. That's the level of intentionality, Aleta, that is required. Mm-hmm. Aleta: Yeah. That is what you need. Declan: Yeah. LUCY: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: So d listen, go through your roll indexes and let me know, okay. LA based Aleta: Ha ha ha. LUCY: Ha ha ha ha. Greg Duffy: prep for bubble but we can talk about it. Declan: Yeah. He'll consider bipostal. LUCY: There you go. Aleta: Ha ha ha. LUCY: Beckett and Cody try to apologize, but Mr. Ward tells him that them they don't need to protect him and they just need to be more careful next time. He will no longer be there to protect them. Apart me me sad. When they leave the headmaster's office, Cody tells Becket it's not worth the risk and walks away. Painful. And I think that's when Declan: Painful. LUCY: you talked about your improv scene there and Yeah. We can see that Cody is working really hard to stay away from Becket in class the next day. Sadly A new teacher arrives. It's Diane Harmon, Beckett's teacher, who went after him at his previous school. Greg, I thought you did really well here actually, the shock on your face. My stomach dropped immediately, and you helped that along. So you really were in that moment. Miss Harmon Greg Duffy: Thank you. LUCY: is going to teach them a scene from Romeo and Juliet and forces Beckett to the front of the class where he is very uncomfortable. Cody, who is trying to stay away from Beckett, can't handle what Beckett is going through because he loves him. After Beckett curses at the teacher not to touch him, Cody goes to the front of the class and tears up the script and tells Miss Harmon. Actually, you should say this line, Declan, do you remember it? Declan: This fucking Shakespeare bullshit. Oops. Aleta: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: Ha ha ha. LUCY: Fucking right. Declan: I swore so I get detention too. Greg Duffy: Yes. Aleta: Ha ha ha LUCY: That's right. They both end up in detention together. this part made me sad because Becca is so mad at Cody for helping him. Because Miss Harmon could tell that they now have feelings for each other. I'm imagining he also felt that way 'cause he was worried about Cody, I'm sure. I know you've both talked about dramatic scenes like this before, Greg and Declan. When you have to get angry or upset in a scene, does it take a while for you both to come down from that? If it's like really passionate. Like what do you do to relax to maybe get into the mood for the next scene? Greg Duffy: Personally, yeah, there's a little bit of like an arc. You kinda have to build up into it and to come out of it. For me it's just like having a little bit of a moment before and after. Kind of like alone. Just to like orient myself and my feelings. 'Cause again and this is most actors I think will say this but and you know this I think already, we've talked about it before, you just w to be in your body and to deliver it accurately, you really have to kinda feel it. You have to feel the emotion or even draw from experiences that you have felt that way and your body just doesn't know how to distinguish between what's real and what's not real when you're like yelling and stuff. So I think for me it's just having a moment before and after to just like get up into it, draw, figure out what I'm drawing from and then come down from it before I can re enter, reintegrate. I don't know what your process is, Zach. LUCY: Yeah. Declan: Well, as you guys know with like Waterboy second down and Bound to My Hot Rival, like the freezer scene and Waterboy Two the breakup and stuff Where there's a lot of like for for Cody this time there wasn't as much like intense emotional stuff that happened. But in those scenes where like you feel so fragile and you're cr like crying so much, that always like I need like it's hard because you do have to move on quite quickly, but I've been so lucky with both of those shoots that when I am in that space, like JP would always come over and give me. a big hug and just be like really like shh an Amanda as well and that like really helps to like bring you out of that if it's like you're feeling really fragile and tender and kind of just like reorienting yourself as much as you can in what you're about to do next or coming back to your body if you've got a bit of a break. But you do use yeah you do feel a bit yeah almost i i i it it does take a a second and sometimes that's when it can be helpful if the next scene is like a total change of pace because it you do just have to snap back into whatever that is and go that belonged to that person at that moment and I'm back to me now. I'm back to I'm back to me now, I'm safe. I'm here And I you know, I've I I've released that for for Cody or for Caden or for Shame, whoever it is at that time. and I it's actually Evan who talked to me about that process. Remember this I think this was God, it would have been probably Waterboy. we had this discussion and he talked to me a bit about like hypnosis and ev everything related to there and his his process of like when he'd come home and he'd have dessert, he'd be like, I'm back to Evan, you know, I'm back back to I'm back to me and you know, those feelings belonged in that moment to that character. And so I have since used that since then. So thank you, Evan, very much for that. LUCY: Aww, love it. In the next scene, we find out Becket is leaving because he finished his courses early to get away from Miss Harmon. We then get an epic confession here. Cody says Do you remember Declan? Declan: something along the lines of something I'm scar I'm scared. Is that what we're talking about? LUCY: Yep. Yep. Declan: can you give me a hint? LUCY: This is the kind of Declan: This is the I'm scared 'cause this is the kind of love you could never recover from. Of course LUCY: Yes. Declan: I'm scared because this is this is the kind of love you could never recover from, Beckett. Greg Duffy: So cute. LUCY: Cody and Cody and Beckett confess their love for one another. Woo-hoo! And we assume there was no interruption here as they fade to black. The next day the boys are back in class. Miss Harmon tries to tell Beckett he needs to stay after because he needs to she needs to grade his final essay, and if she doesn't, he cannot graduate early. Miss Harmon kicks Cody out, who strategically places his phone on the whiteboard to record while he is out of the room. Good job, Cody. Miss Harmon uses the opportunity to try and assault Beckett again. It was hard for me to watch, guys. we didn't get to see how you got out of the situation or how Cody got his phone back, but I'm kind of glad they cut that short. We do get to see Beckett stand up for himself though, which is great, and the scene cuts to Beckett and Cody on the bed watching the video on Cody's phone. the scene of the two of you on the bed I thought was beautifully, beautifully framed. I loved it. Declan: Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: Yeah, w like beautifully lit and stuff. It's very yeah. Very s LUCY: Mm. Declan: My one gripe with that scene, I remember specifically, very specifically asking, are my feet gonna be in this shot? Because I haven't changed my socks. And I've got white socks with black dress shoes. Despite the fact. that in the scene before I was in the white shoes. Continuity. But I specifically asked, 'cause that is my pet like ha like white socks with black dress shoes. And the scene opens. This I knew it was gonna be such a beautiful scene too. And it opens and I'm like And for a good ten Greg Duffy: Damn it. Declan: seconds it's still there Aleta: Ha ha ha ha. Declan: and I'm like, You're ruining it, you're ruining the beauty of it. Aleta: Ha ha ha ha. Greg Duffy: I didn't even notice. I didn't nobody else noticed. LUCY: I didn't notice either, I didn't notice. I'm gonna go fixate on it now though. Declan: Go back and watch it, see those white socks with those black dress shoes. Greg Duffy: Athletic socks, yeah. LUCY: it was beautiful Declan. I'm sorry that happened to you. Declan: Cody made a lot of fashionable qu questionable fashion choices, but that's top of the list. LUCY: Yeah. my goodness, alright. Well Declan: You wanna be dirty. LUCY: guys, it is now Parents' night out. We meet Cody's father, Franklin Callaway, who tells Cody to introduce him to Beckett's father, Roman Hayes. Cody tells him he can't because he's staying away from boys, so he doesn't know Beckett. Declan: Exactly. LUCY: Yeah, your father's a piece of work. We Declan: Yep. LUCY: see Cody walk over to Roman Hayes. It's Sean McHugh. We love him. We adore him. Greg Duffy: He's awesome. Declan: Love show. LUCY: It had to be so fun working with him again. He's like the BL token dad. Token BL dad. Declan: Mm. Literally. Greg Duffy: He's so great. LUCY: It really is. Declan: And his mum is from Sydney. I had a fellow Aussie on set. Yeah. Greg Duffy: yeah, yeah. LUCY: That's really cool actually. Okay. I like that. Declan: Y yeah. How's like represent? Multiply. Aleta: Ha ha LUCY: So there's a frustrating scene where they are talking to the parents are talking to Miss Harmon, who is lying straight to their face about Beckett attacking her. When Miss Harmon goes up to introduce Parents Night, Cody projects the video for all to see. Miss Harmon gets exposed for her lies. Roman apologizes to his son for not believing him. We get a nice hug, but Yeah, I wish he had believed you earlier. She Declan: Yeah. LUCY: is escorted out of Parents' Night, saying awful things to Beckett. We are happy to see here that Roman is very supportive of his son and his relationship with Cody here at Besties. We love supportive parents. It's Declan: Yeah. LUCY: it's been one of the hardest things about the queer verticals for us. The reality that not all parents of gay children are supportive. So there is a lot to unpack in this scene. I think verticals really like to use SA as plot drivers, but they can be very triggering for certain viewers to watch. I think it's so important that apps maybe consider trigger warnings in the future. Maybe for some of the harsher stories, right? Declan: Mm-hmm. LUCY: Beckett tells his dad he wants to stay at the reform school because he is gay and he is in love with Cody. Damn it. Greg Duffy: That's right. LUCY: The headmaster comes over and tells them they just broke rule number one. So Cody uses his get out of jail free card from Aleta: Mm mm. Declan: Not so fast, buddy. LUCY: the Maplewood. That's right. We get Aleta: Mm-hmm. LUCY: an epic kiss once the headmaster leaves. And I didn't get this part because. Aren't they breaking it again? Like what do you think about that guys? Greg Duffy: And it and again and again and again. Aleta: Ha ha Declan: Greg and I season two and three break that rule, I think there's like an implied immunity. It's yeah, immunity for Beck and Cody now. Greg Duffy: We LUCY: All right. Greg Duffy: yes, but also we're not trying to like kiss in public all the time. I think there's a little bit of like a we have to be a little bit careful. But you're right, like we we break it all the time. But I think Hall Pass extends forever. Declan: It's got yeah. LUCY: Let's that's how we'll think of it. Declan: I mean those are the y the universal rules of the h handwritten whole pass at Maplewood. So yeah. Greg Duffy: The handwritten, yeah. That like that the that like make the headma who the headmaster has ultimate control over the rules of the school. He's like damn it, like he's been foiled. It's like you could get rid of the hall pass into Harpy. Like you don't have that's not like Yeah, yeah, yeah. Declan: I'm in wood God damn it they got me Greg Duffy: Kinda silly. LUCY: Well, it seems Cody and Beckett's story is going to possibly fade into the background. The camera pans to Xander and his father, who have a rough discussion about Cody and Beckett kissing. The vertical ends with Easton and Xander, which sets us up for season two. Declan: What a setup. Greg Duffy: Yep. LUCY: snap. Declan: What a setup. So ominous. The ending is so ominous. Greg Duffy: Dramatic. I know. LUCY: No, I've never seen an ending Greg Duffy: It's awesome. LUCY: like that either in a vertical. I was gonna say, Greg and Declan, you were both incredible. Like, honestly, like thank you for all your hard work on this and and recapping this with us. Can you tell us what made this vertical shoot like honestly different from any others you have done besides like the obvious I guess, right? This is you promised us it would be different and it is. Greg Duffy: Yeah, from the perspective of behind the camera and the experience or from like what you're what you see in the final product or any of the above? LUCY: Any of it, any of it. Greg Duffy: Yeah, I I felt a lot of freedom with the creative team to make choices and much of the time they let us make a lot of those creative choices and improv and when we had a strong perspective on that I think the character would do this. They just let us run with that. So it felt like I could embody Beckett probably like just I had more freedom than maybe I've ever had in like what I wanted to express, which was really, really nice and a tribute to this team, like letting me, you know, run with it, letting us all run with our character. the length of time like I mentioned made us all get close because it's an intense process over the seven or ten days and it's an intense process over, you know, thirty days, but thirty you just end up getting to spend more time and getting closer. So that was really really, really nice. And then getting to work with Declan finally. Like really like, you know? As a lead. Declan: Yeah. Like really. Greg Duffy: Yeah. It just felt like such a great experience to work with someone that I knew so well prior to shooting and that just felt like such a I think in almost every other case I'm you know, in the the BLs that I've done, I haven't known the co star that well prior to shooting. Aleta: Mm. Greg Duffy: Or at all. LUCY: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Greg Duffy: So that felt really nice too. Yeah. Declan: Mm. Yeah, it felt like the patience paid off. And they were referencing on set, like, you know, your campaign really paid off to because they Greg Duffy: Ha. Declan: were referencing like the fact that we had planted Greg Duffy: We were pushing it. Declan: planting East you know, doing videos basically from Pool Boy and Suck that we wanted to work together. So you know, they knew they were aware f that we wanted to for a really long Aleta: Mm. Declan: time. And, you know, we do feel so grateful because like Greg said at the start, the chem read we only read together once and w I I felt really strange about the chem read 'cause I had done all my other reads in an American accent and then they wanted to switch to Australian. So I felt really discombobulated and I felt like I wasn't as present with Greg as I wanted to be with him. And yes, I was just stoked that you know, that it it actually they were just like, no, it's immediate and Greg Duffy: This is it. Declan: I was like, great. Fantastic. But it was an immediate yes. Greg Duffy: I thought it was immediately no. We were in there for a very short time. I was like they knew it wasn't for whatever reason they didn't want me. And no no no, they was like immediately they knew it was a yes for the both of us. Declan: Immediately that that you're the golden boy. So I mean it was so special for so many reasons that I think this is the first time I've got to do something that's truly felt like more ensemble, more akin to shooting a regular series. And that's really special as an actor and I think that Yeah, just the just the whole camaraderie of it and the family of it made it so special to to film this one. And yeah, I'm just really proud of it. I'm proud of everybody and I just feel so grateful I got to be part of this. It's you know, everyone is so special, but yeah, it was just beautiful. Aleta: Mm-hmm. LUCY: Really was. Well, guys, this has been probably the longest recap of all time Greg Duffy: huh. LUCY: and you Declan: very much. LUCY: guys are the best most amazing human beings ever to be the guinea pigs for this and we appreciate you. Greg Duffy: Thanks for having us. LUCY: thank you. Alita, I was gonna say unless the boys don't have anything else to say, you should take us out. Aleta: Any last thoughts? Mm. Greg Duffy: I would just pose a question that I'll provide no context for. Aleta: no. Greg Duffy: Can you keep a secret? Aleta: You're such a brat. Greg Duffy: There's more coming and that's a clue But I can't say any more. LUCY: Son of a something She's the she figures out the riddles. I'll bug her for a while, she'll figure it Greg Duffy: Mm-hmm. LUCY: out. Greg Duffy: Ha ha ha Aleta: I don't know. Yeah, anyway. Okay, besties. The Greg Duffy: Ha ha. Aleta: anyway. LUCY: Do Aleta: To what? Okay. Besties, that wraps up our recap of the school for bad boys. We could not be more grateful, honestly, for to Greg and Declan for being so incredibly generous with their time. Yet again, poor Greg has been subjected to us so many times. Declan: Yeah. Aleta: Thank you for your patience. Greg Duffy: I like it. Aleta: It was a quick turnaround here. guys recording two days after the release and we were scrambling. We love and appreciate you both so much and I know that all of your fans are going to be so excited when they find out about this. Bye, besties. Greg Duffy: It's a pleasure every time. Declan: Yeah, we love you. Thank you so much LUCY: Yes. Declan: for doing this. So much fun. Bye. Bye, besties. LUCY: Bye, besties, thank you. Greg Duffy: Bye besties. Aleta: Bye.
