1:40
Speaker 4: little bit later on the show, We're going to continue
1:43
Speaker 4: our look back at the recently ended West Virginia legislative session.
1:48
Speaker 4: One group has gone as far as to say this
1:50
Speaker 4: was the worst legislative session in history. Pretty strong statement there.
1:54
Speaker 4: Greg Thomas with Citizens Against Lost Age Abuse out with
1:57
Speaker 4: that press release yesterday. We'll talk to Greg Thomas about that.
2:01
Speaker 4: And of course, the big story here in the Canaal
2:02
Speaker 4: Valley was the storms that rolled through the area just
2:05
Speaker 4: after five five fifteen or so yesterday afternoon. Depends on
2:08
Speaker 4: where you live as to how hard you got hit.
2:11
Speaker 4: Understanding that in Charleston it wasn't nearly as bad. But
2:13
Speaker 4: where where I live in in Tays Valley, we absolutely
2:17
Speaker 4: got hammered about five point fifteen yesterday and you probably
2:21
Speaker 4: have seen the videos floating around. I got a lot
2:25
Speaker 4: about it post on my social media, Dave Island Radio
2:27
Speaker 4: and at Dave A seventy on ACST. Yeah, it was
2:30
Speaker 4: pretty intense and to clean up still continues over there,
2:32
Speaker 4: So we'll talk about that coming up a little bit
2:34
Speaker 4: later on. Plus, your calls and text are always welcome.

2:42
Speaker 4: zero four nine three five five zero zero eight, Welcome
2:45
Speaker 4: into the show. The Attorney General of the City of
2:47
Speaker 4: West Virginia in studio with us this morning.
2:50
Speaker 3: J B.
2:50
Speaker 4: Mccusky, Hey you doing man.
2:51
Speaker 5: Good morning, Dave. How are you, buddy?
2:52
Speaker 3: Now?
2:53
Speaker 4: The last time you were here was on the State
2:55
Speaker 4: Wide show and you brought these lovely little little girls
2:59
Speaker 4: with you. And when I look up and I hear
3:01
Speaker 4: the door open, this one, I see you walk in,
3:04
Speaker 4: not quite as lovely without the girls, mane.
3:06
Speaker 6: You know it's funny That is a very very common
3:08
Speaker 6: statement that I received, is that you know, we like
3:10
Speaker 6: you a lot better when your daughters are with.
3:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, well, it gives you a certain, you know, cuteness.
3:16
Speaker 6: It doesn't give me cuteness. It just diverts people's eyes
3:19
Speaker 6: away from my ugliness.
3:20
Speaker 5: Is that what it is?
3:21
Speaker 4: I didn't I didn't say that, sir, I did I did.
3:24
Speaker 7: I get it.
3:24
Speaker 4: I'm self aware. I got a few things I want
3:28
Speaker 4: to talk to you about, but I want to start
3:29
Speaker 4: by talking about the storms yesterday. As I said, depends
3:33
Speaker 4: on where you live as to how hard you got hit.
3:35
Speaker 4: In Putnam County, Uh, yeah, it was pretty intense there.
3:39
Speaker 4: We're still cleaning up over there. Whenever we have jb A,
3:43
Speaker 4: any sort of an incident, whether encitiven, happens like this,
3:47
Speaker 4: you know, whether it's flooding or whatever, we seem to
3:51
Speaker 4: get hit, and the hours afterwards, the vultures come a calling.
3:55
Speaker 4: Yeah you know, I can fix this damage to your roof,
3:59
Speaker 4: or I can fix thisdamage to your fence that got
4:01
Speaker 4: knocked down, if your house got flooded, or whatever the
4:02
Speaker 4: case may be. The scam artists are out and I'm
4:06
Speaker 4: sure here we're a little over twelve hours away. I'm
4:08
Speaker 4: sure they're already at work.
4:09
Speaker 3: Yeah.
4:09
Speaker 6: I mean, I have a friend who lives in Putnam
4:11
Speaker 6: County and she has to get the entire side of
4:13
Speaker 6: her house. The siding redon her roof is completely destroyed.
4:17
Speaker 6: And I'm sure that is unfortunately a common experience for
4:21
Speaker 6: many people from that storm last night. And in many respects,
4:24
Speaker 6: a hailstorm is the worst kind of one because the
4:26
Speaker 6: scammers are the most likely to come and talk about
4:30
Speaker 6: roofs in siding and.
4:31
Speaker 4: So, and whereas you have a lot of people that
4:33
Speaker 4: are just gonna probably maybe some older folks or whatever,
4:36
Speaker 4: are going to say, well, I'm not going to go
4:38
Speaker 4: up there and look, and you don't have any anyway.
4:41
Speaker 4: You can see the obvious damage, but on top of
4:43
Speaker 4: a roof you may not.
4:44
Speaker 6: And there are a bunch of really great local roofing
4:48
Speaker 6: companies that are licensed and regulated and know what they're doing.
4:52
Speaker 6: But in the roofing space there's a lot of scam artists.
4:55
Speaker 6: And so we need everybody in West Virginia, especially those
4:58
Speaker 6: affected by the storm last night, to be hyper vigilant
5:01
Speaker 6: about with whom you are doing business. It is, and
5:04
Speaker 6: we talked about this last time. You know, there's a
5:06
Speaker 6: heightened sense of anxiety when there's a hole in the
5:09
Speaker 6: top of your house, or your roof is destroyed, or
5:12
Speaker 6: in the wake of a storm. It's sometimes harder to
5:15
Speaker 6: make great decisions, or really good decisions at the very least.
5:18
Speaker 6: So take a deep breath when you're talking to somebody.
5:21
Speaker 6: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
5:23
Speaker 6: If you notice something strange, call our office. But make
5:27
Speaker 6: sure that you are ensuring that anyone that you're doing
5:30
Speaker 6: business with to repair your house is a licensed contractor
5:34
Speaker 6: here in West Virginia and somebody that your insurance company
5:38
Speaker 6: is willing to work with.
5:39
Speaker 4: And it's not hard to find out whether they are,
5:41
Speaker 4: or it's not hard.
5:42
Speaker 6: You just go right on the Secretary of State's website.
5:44
Speaker 6: You can look them up and anybody who anybody who's
5:46
Speaker 6: reputable will help you find that licensure. And they should
5:50
Speaker 6: have copies of their licenses along with them when they're
5:52
Speaker 6: when they're traveling around. And to be fair, if somebody's
5:55
Speaker 6: going door to door, I would be a little extra skeptical.
6:00
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean we want to think as West Virginians,
6:03
Speaker 4: you know that people wouldn't do that and it wouldn't
6:06
Speaker 4: be all your friends and neighbors, wouldn't. Yeah, Unfortunately, they
6:10
Speaker 4: kind of take advantage of people when it comes to
6:12
Speaker 4: the kindness of West Virginias.
6:13
Speaker 6: For all the reasons why we expect our neighbors not
6:16
Speaker 6: to do it to us, is the reason why people
6:17
Speaker 6: who may not be our neighbors will come in here
6:19
Speaker 6: and take advantage of our hospitality.
6:22
Speaker 4: There's been a lot in the news Attorney General about
6:24
Speaker 4: the deportation from the Trump administration of some folks, one
6:29
Speaker 4: having to do with some Venezuelan gangs talking about them.
6:33
Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, if you're in this country, number one, illegally,
6:36
Speaker 6: and number two, if you're in this country and you're
6:37
Speaker 6: a dangerous felon who has felonies from other countries as well,
6:41
Speaker 6: you have no business wandering around the streets of America
6:44
Speaker 6: and endangering the people here. But more than that, bringing
6:47
Speaker 6: fentanyl and other drugs across the border. And so that
6:50
Speaker 6: the Trump administration has made a very concerted effort to
6:53
Speaker 6: find folks who have noticeable criminal records and get them
6:58
Speaker 6: back to where the the country from where they came,
7:01
Speaker 6: and so that they can be processed and imprisoned properly.
7:04
Speaker 6: In the places where they're supposed to be, and our
7:06
Speaker 6: office supports that effort one hundred percent.
7:09
Speaker 4: There has been some folks that have criticized, right for
7:15
Speaker 4: right or wrong, the process of the Trump administration, saying, well,
7:19
Speaker 4: maybe they're going out that maybe they got some of
7:21
Speaker 4: the wrong people, people that weren't gang members. How do
7:23
Speaker 4: you ensure I know, it's not your job to do it,
7:25
Speaker 4: but I mean, if you were in that position, how
7:27
Speaker 4: do you ensure that you're getting the right people?
7:29
Speaker 5: Yeah?
7:29
Speaker 6: I mean I think that that is why you have
7:31
Speaker 6: elected representatives, right, That's the reason why you have experts
7:35
Speaker 6: at the head of Department of Homeland Security. It's why
7:38
Speaker 6: you have experts in the White House, and you have
7:40
Speaker 6: lawyers working at every part of this process to ensure
7:43
Speaker 6: that it's being done constitutionally. And you know, are there
7:47
Speaker 6: going to be missteps? There might be, but it's impossible
7:50
Speaker 6: to do anything perfectly, and perfection is a great goal,
7:53
Speaker 6: but it's unattainable, and so our only goal and our
7:56
Speaker 6: only hope here is to help the Trump administration do
7:59
Speaker 6: it the best way possible, as quickly as possible, because
8:02
Speaker 6: human life is far more important than anything else, and
8:06
Speaker 6: we're just hopeful that we're finding a sense of normalcy
8:09
Speaker 6: in our immigration policy. I think, you know, one of
8:11
Speaker 6: the things that I find pretty interesting is that our
8:15
Speaker 6: immigration policy was so wonky that getting it back to
8:18
Speaker 6: neutral seems extreme to one side of the political spectrum.
8:22
Speaker 6: I think removing dangerous felon gang members from countries of
8:27
Speaker 6: great concern shouldn't be that controversial. And so we're we're
8:32
Speaker 6: very supportive of this effort, and we're supportive in a
8:35
Speaker 6: way that we speak through our filings, and we speak
8:39
Speaker 6: through our amicus briefs, and we've done a lot of
8:42
Speaker 6: things to help ensure that this process is going properly.
8:45
Speaker 4: And I wanted to ask about that because as soon
8:46
Speaker 4: as I said that, we had a text with somebody
8:48
Speaker 4: that said, what about Doe process? And the text goes
8:51
Speaker 4: on to say, is the constitution meaningless?
8:53
Speaker 6: The Constitution is decidedly not meaningless. The president has extreme
8:58
Speaker 6: plenary powers to designate certain groups in certain countries as
9:04
Speaker 6: enemy combatants, and I don't think there's a particularly good
9:06
Speaker 6: argument that the president doesn't have that power, and there
9:09
Speaker 6: isn't a good argument that he doesn't have that power
9:11
Speaker 6: as it relates to a foreign invading force, which is
9:14
Speaker 6: what he believes and has stated that the trend to
9:18
Speaker 6: augwaad Venezuelan gang members are and so the President's allowed
9:22
Speaker 6: to do this. You can go back through history. If
9:24
Speaker 6: Congress wanted to stop them, they could have. But every
9:27
Speaker 6: president in history has had this authority, and this president
9:31
Speaker 6: is using it to remove violent gang members from the
9:34
Speaker 6: streets of this country.
9:35
Speaker 4: We had a text you reference to the Secretary of
9:37
Speaker 4: State's office earlier, and somebody said a phone number would
9:40
Speaker 4: be great for the folks. So, yeah, the main line
9:42
Speaker 4: the secretary of State's office, not your office, but we
9:44
Speaker 4: want to throw that out there. You can give him
9:45
Speaker 4: my office too, or I can do well, let me
9:47
Speaker 4: do Secretary of State first, the Secretary of States. If
9:50
Speaker 4: you have any questions about anything, you can call three
9:54
Speaker 4: zero four five five eight six thousand. Three zero four
9:57
Speaker 4: five five eight six thousand. That is the number. That's
10:00
Speaker 4: the main line for the Secretary of State's office. Now again,
10:04
Speaker 4: you can go on the search portal, and if you're
10:06
Speaker 4: not that computer litterate what some folks are, you can
10:09
Speaker 4: find a person that could probably handle that for you,
10:11
Speaker 4: and you can look up I know a little something
10:13
Speaker 4: about this. You can look up any of these businesses
10:15
Speaker 4: and to see if they're a randity contractor.
10:17
Speaker 6: It's a well done website that has good search functions.
10:20
Speaker 6: And if you're looking to get ahold of the West
10:21
Speaker 6: Virginia Attorney General's Office, you're going to want to ask
10:24
Speaker 6: for the Office of Consumer Protection if you have a
10:27
Speaker 6: question about maybe getting scammed or somebody trying to scam you.
10:30
Speaker 6: And that number is three oh four, five to five eight,
10:33
Speaker 6: twenty twenty one.
10:34
Speaker 4: All right, let's talk about coal mining.
10:37
Speaker 2: I love talking about Coleman.
10:38
Speaker 4: A big executive executive orders were signed last week in DC.
10:42
Speaker 4: Were you there last week?
10:43
Speaker 8: I was.
10:43
Speaker 4: I thought you were to talk about that experience in
10:45
Speaker 4: DC last week.
10:46
Speaker 6: So the first and most important thing I think from
10:48
Speaker 6: that was that we had a West Virginia coal miner
10:51
Speaker 6: from up in Weirden who delivered remarks on behalf of
10:54
Speaker 6: the coal community and they were all standing behind the president,
10:57
Speaker 6: and the speech that he gave borderline made me choke up.
11:02
Speaker 6: And what was really noticeable is that the coal industry
11:07
Speaker 6: has been absolutely crushed by a myriad of federal forces.
11:14
Speaker 6: But I think the most painful thing for most of
11:17
Speaker 6: the folks in the coal industry is the lack of
11:19
Speaker 6: respect that comes from those who are in charge of
11:21
Speaker 6: making energy policy, and it's palatable. And his remarks centered
11:26
Speaker 6: around the idea that this was a president and an
11:29
Speaker 6: administration that was willing to look the coal miners in
11:32
Speaker 6: the eye and say, I value you, I value the
11:35
Speaker 6: work that you do, and I value what your work
11:37
Speaker 6: does to make America a better country. And you could
11:40
Speaker 6: just see the smiles on their faces to know that
11:44
Speaker 6: they're incredibly dangerous, they're incredibly difficult, they're technically difficult. Jobs
11:50
Speaker 6: were being valued by the most powerful man in the world.
11:53
Speaker 6: And I think his willingness to say the energy needs
11:57
Speaker 6: of our country are not being met and the men
11:59
Speaker 6: and women the coal fields in West Virginia are going
12:01
Speaker 6: to be the bridge between what's happening now and ensuring
12:05
Speaker 6: that America dominates in energy production and data and AI
12:09
Speaker 6: into the future. It's hard to really quantify what that
12:14
Speaker 6: means to the folks in that room. And I was
12:16
Speaker 6: really proud to be there, and I was really excited
12:18
Speaker 6: about the executive orders that came out, specifically the President
12:23
Speaker 6: noting our super fun lawsuit where we are fighting New
12:28
Speaker 6: York's decision to find our coal companies upwards of seventy
12:34
Speaker 6: five billion dollars for quote unquote environmental impacts that have
12:38
Speaker 6: happened over the last thirty years. And he's going to
12:41
Speaker 6: help with the full weight of the DOJ in our
12:43
Speaker 6: suit to ensure that states are not allowed to usurp
12:47
Speaker 6: the federal government's primacy as it relates to energy policy.
12:52
Speaker 6: And that was very meaningful to me. And you know,
12:54
Speaker 6: to be fair, it is incredibly humbling to have the
12:57
Speaker 6: President recognize some of the most important world that you've
13:00
Speaker 6: been doing in your job.
13:02
Speaker 4: Talking again with Attorney General JB. Mccusky, you're you're getting
13:07
Speaker 4: into the fight over high capacity magazines and so.
13:11
Speaker 7: Not sure what that term actually even.
13:12
Speaker 4: Okay, all right, that's what I was going to say,
13:15
Speaker 4: because and I'm not the biggest gun guy in the world.
13:18
Speaker 4: I'm not against them one hundred percent pro gun, just
13:20
Speaker 4: not something I'm necessarily into. I lead that up to
13:22
Speaker 4: the Chris Lawrences of the world and the Art Toms
13:25
Speaker 4: of the world. Yeah, the Art Tom big shout out
13:27
Speaker 4: to Art Tom. Absolutely into those folks.
13:29
Speaker 3: Uh.
13:30
Speaker 4: But when you hear these terms that around, like assault
13:32
Speaker 4: rifles and things of that nation, nobody even knows exactly
13:35
Speaker 4: what that means, particularly the people that are usually speaking
13:37
Speaker 4: against them. They don't understand it.
13:39
Speaker 6: But hilariously, Dave, people that don't like guns think that
13:42
Speaker 6: AR stands for assault rifle, which it does not. The
13:44
Speaker 6: assault rifle is a term that was invented to describe
13:48
Speaker 6: a gun that looks different than what most people think
13:50
Speaker 6: they look like.
13:50
Speaker 4: What, so, what your office doing in this realm?
13:52
Speaker 9: Yeah?
13:52
Speaker 6: So, the District of Columbia has been a real thorn
13:56
Speaker 6: in the side for the Second Amendment for a very
14:00
Speaker 6: very long time, and the Supreme Court and the Heller
14:04
Speaker 6: decision has determined that there is no balancing test. It's
14:07
Speaker 6: a historical analysis and the Second Amendment says what it says.
14:10
Speaker 6: And even after the Heller decision, the District of Columbia
14:13
Speaker 6: continued to have regulations on the book that don't comply
14:18
Speaker 6: with the Second Amendment that restrict the gun ownership rights
14:21
Speaker 6: of the people that live there and the people that
14:22
Speaker 6: visit there in a way that is unconstitutional. And so
14:25
Speaker 6: we have weighed in with an amicus with a bunch
14:28
Speaker 6: of states signing on along with us, to say, look,
14:31
Speaker 6: the Supreme Court told you what you could do, and
14:34
Speaker 6: you're still violating that. And we believe that when the
14:37
Speaker 6: people here in West Virginia travel over to Washington, d C.
14:40
Speaker 6: And when the people in Washington, DC want to defend
14:42
Speaker 6: themselves and their families, that the rules that the Supreme
14:45
Speaker 6: Court has delineated and the clear language of the Second
14:47
Speaker 6: Amendment apply.
14:48
Speaker 4: Before we let you go, the legislative session just wrapped up.
14:51
Speaker 4: What sort of initiatives did the AG's office have? You're
14:55
Speaker 4: taking any of them?
14:56
Speaker 6: Yeah, So we took a pretty passive approach to this
14:59
Speaker 6: legislative sty You know, I was a legislator for four years,
15:01
Speaker 6: and I know how busy and how wild it is
15:05
Speaker 6: up there, and I didn't really know what I needed
15:07
Speaker 6: or wanted yet, right I'd only been there for three
15:09
Speaker 6: weeks or a month. Whenever the legislative session started, whenever
15:13
Speaker 6: the legislature called nas fort interpretation, we were happy to
15:15
Speaker 6: give it to him. But our budget is going to
15:18
Speaker 6: be what the legislature makes it. We were happy with
15:20
Speaker 6: the UH, with the way that that went. And you know,
15:22
Speaker 6: maybe over the next year or so, we'll start to
15:25
Speaker 6: really understand some ways that we can, UH, if we
15:28
Speaker 6: need to, we may not to change some of the
15:31
Speaker 6: laws and regulations that relate to the Attorney General's office
15:34
Speaker 6: and work with the legislature over that year. But this
15:36
Speaker 6: year was a year for us to really get our
15:38
Speaker 6: feet underneath us in the Auditor's office. And you know,
15:40
Speaker 6: the worst thing you can do is jump to a
15:41
Speaker 6: conclusion and ask somebody to change a law when it's
15:45
Speaker 6: possible that that the process can be worked out in.
15:47
Speaker 5: A different way.
15:48
Speaker 7: And that's the approach that we took.
15:49
Speaker 8: You.
15:50
Speaker 4: You referenced the Auditor's office.
15:52
Speaker 5: I did.
15:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, did I say auditor's office? And I and here's
15:55
Speaker 4: the reason I'm happy about that, because I have continued
15:58
Speaker 4: I have referred to you as the auditor. This is
16:01
Speaker 4: the only interview I've ever done with you that I
16:03
Speaker 4: did not call you the audit.
16:04
Speaker 7: Did I do it more than once?
16:05
Speaker 4: No, you only did it once.
16:06
Speaker 6: Well, just for point of reference. I am now the
16:08
Speaker 6: Attorney General. But I absolutely loved my time as the
16:11
Speaker 6: state auditor. And you know, occasionally when I walk in
16:15
Speaker 6: the building, I turn left instead of right and walk
16:17
Speaker 6: right down the wrong hallway day everybody you know what's
16:19
Speaker 6: happening less frequently, but it did happen pretty frequently.
16:22
Speaker 4: And by the time that that you get that, and
16:24
Speaker 4: I'm just messing with you. You realize, Yeah, by the time
16:26
Speaker 4: you get to that, then you'll be changing offices to
16:29
Speaker 4: a higher office. I maybe who knows, you know, I
16:32
Speaker 4: have a little push.
16:33
Speaker 6: I got a couple of little kids, a pretty busy job,
16:35
Speaker 6: and you know, sometimes my brain, especially in the morning,
16:39
Speaker 6: turns off just a little bit.
16:40
Speaker 4: I got you, Attorney General J. B. McCuskey, I appreciate you, baby.
16:44
Speaker 6: What am I supposed to call you? If I'm Attorney
16:46
Speaker 6: General JB. McCuskey, you would be I just radio host extraordinary.

Speaker 4: Yeah, that'd be good because that work. Yeah yeah, hot

19:45
Speaker 4: I call bs when the government can't be perfect. They
19:47
Speaker 4: expect us to be perfect. Okay, I'm not if you
19:53

19:56
Speaker 4: I'm not. You're gonna read it around it Texas, the

Speaker 4: majority of West Virginia cold has exported much of it
20:02
Speaker 4: to China. The tariff policies will cut off that ability.
20:06
Speaker 4: Texas Dave, we produce more energy and exports more energy

Speaker 4: than anyone in the world. Republicans need to get on
20:12
Speaker 4: board or get left behind. We need all sorts of energy, texts,
20:16
Speaker 4: says Dave. Trump loves meeting with dictators and said he
20:19
Speaker 4: wants to deport US citizens that commit serious crimes. Does
20:22

21:07
Speaker 5: No, you know, we we didn't.
21:09
Speaker 11: I live in South Charleston kind of up on the
21:11
Speaker 11: top of the hill, and so uh we could we
21:13
Speaker 11: We were like sitting on the front porchs like watching
21:15
Speaker 11: it come in, so you could like see it kind
21:17
Speaker 11: of coming in, passing y'all and going up through like
21:20
Speaker 11: Cissonville and kind of crossing seventy nine and all that
21:23
Speaker 11: and we didn't get it at all.
21:25
Speaker 4: So yeah, we got it. We got enough for everybody. O.
21:27
Speaker 4: We're in Tays Valley. That's true.
21:29
Speaker 5: I saw that hills something else. Yeah, it is.
21:31
Speaker 4: I mean it's not. I mean, you know, it's not
21:33
Speaker 4: something that when you hear that sound. I mean we
21:37
Speaker 4: knew it was coming. It's been predicted for days and
21:39
Speaker 4: about five point fifteen, my wife was making dinner yesterday
21:42
Speaker 4: and we're like, oh, here it comes, and bam bam ba,
21:45
Speaker 4: and what are you gonna do? I mean, you just
21:47
Speaker 4: gotta just you just sit there and you just watch
21:49
Speaker 4: your flowers being destroyed and what your you know, you're
21:51
Speaker 4: sighting and everything just just going away. So uh, all right,
21:55
Speaker 4: So the session just wrapped up. Press release comes out
21:58
Speaker 4: yesterday from Citizens Against law Suit Abuse, a group that
22:02
Speaker 4: you are the executive director of. That's your great title,
22:06
Speaker 4: Worst session ever, that's what that's what you said, worst
22:10
Speaker 4: period session, period ever, period.
22:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's terrible. It was. It was terrible.
22:19
Speaker 5: I mean it was.
22:20
Speaker 11: I mean, look that not like all the way around, right,
22:24
Speaker 11: I mean we don't want to say like nothing, nothing
22:27
Speaker 11: happened at all. But from a legal reform perspective, it.
22:31
Speaker 5: It was terrible. From a job's perspective, it was terrible.
22:36
Speaker 4: So you know this is going to put you at odds,
22:39
Speaker 4: Gregory with with some of your Republican brethren, right, I mean,
22:42
Speaker 4: I'm not not that you've ever cared before, but I.
22:44
Speaker 11: Think, well, first off, you know, most a lot of
22:48
Speaker 11: these folks aren't actually Republicans. I mean, I think that's
22:51
Speaker 11: the problem now, right, when you get to having where
22:54
Speaker 11: there's just one party, a lot of these people that
22:56
Speaker 11: are at heart at least at can gnomic Democrats, they
23:02
Speaker 11: infiltrate the party. And that's what we have, right, I mean,
23:06
Speaker 11: you know, and for a lot of your listeners that
23:08
Speaker 11: have listened to me, We've been doing this a long time.
23:13
Speaker 11: You know, I've been running Republican state legislative campaign since
23:16
Speaker 11: two thousand and two. And back then, you know, those
23:20
Speaker 11: first ten years, right, we ran a lot of campaigns
23:24
Speaker 11: against sort of pro life, pro gun, pro union, pro
23:28
Speaker 11: trial law, your big government Democrats, and those are a
23:32
Speaker 11: lot of the folks that we beat. And here we
23:35
Speaker 11: are ten years into Republican control in the legislature, and
23:38
Speaker 11: now we have a lot of pro life, pro gun,
23:41
Speaker 11: pro union, pro trial law, your big government Republicans, and
23:46
Speaker 11: that's what we have in the State Senate. And part
23:50
Speaker 11: of the reason we have that is because the personal
23:52
Speaker 11: and you know what happens is that, right, the liberal
23:54
Speaker 11: interest will just find people that need money and they
23:58
Speaker 11: go get the money.
23:59
Speaker 13: You know.
23:59
Speaker 11: Put Trisha Rucker, state Senator from the Eastern Panhandle, took
24:02
Speaker 11: you know, a Republican, Yeah, Republican in name, you know,
24:08
Speaker 11: twenty thousand dollars from personal injury lawyers, you know, most
24:13
Speaker 11: of which we're here in Charles, you know, Democrats here
24:15
Speaker 11: in Charleston or Democrats in Morgantown. And then they you know,
24:19
Speaker 11: run around the Capitol with a flag that says I'm
24:21
Speaker 11: the most conservative person you've ever met. And then they
24:26
Speaker 11: vote on big government issues, they vote on you know,
24:31
Speaker 11: vote to do whatever the trial lawyers want them to do.
24:34
Speaker 11: Uh So, not only do we did not get any
24:37
Speaker 11: legal reform, but they created dozens of causes, tried to
24:41
Speaker 11: create at least dozens of causes of actions. I mean,
24:44
Speaker 11: it was it was a trial lawyer feast in the
24:48
Speaker 11: in the State Senate this year. Thankfully to have you know,
24:51
Speaker 11: the House of Delegates played defense some and I will say,
24:55
Speaker 11: you know, jb Acres, who's a this the House Judiciary chair.
24:58
Speaker 11: He passed several reasonable legal reforms this year. He's a
25:02
Speaker 11: trial lawyer, right, so like like he got it right.
25:06
Speaker 11: I think the governor had an okay, had the governor
25:09
Speaker 11: had a decent session, right, I mean he passed a
25:11
Speaker 11: lot of his agenda.
25:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, And I'm going to jump in on that because
25:14
Speaker 4: I think and I am guilty of this as as
25:16
Speaker 4: possibly other other folks are as well. Because the governor
25:20
Speaker 4: took a couple of big losses. I think maybe maybe
25:23
Speaker 4: a certificate of need maybe on the vaccine bill that there,
25:27
Speaker 4: you have a tendency to think, well, he didn't have
25:29
Speaker 4: a very good session. A matter of fact, I'm looking
25:32
Speaker 4: at the headline and the Charleston Gazett mail this morning.
25:34
Speaker 4: Morrisy priorities take a hit. Got twelve out of fourteen passed.
25:39
Speaker 5: Look, you just.
25:40
Speaker 11: Heard, you know the Attorney General McCuskey say, hey, you
25:43
Speaker 11: know I had a you know, I just got here, right,
25:46
Speaker 11: I don't know exactly what I need to do. I
25:48
Speaker 11: think that was a little bit of what Morrisey did too.
25:50
Speaker 11: He had a modest agenda. Of the fourteen bills, probably
25:55
Speaker 11: seven of them were technical kind of things in nature.
25:58
Speaker 11: But he had some good stuff. I mean he had
25:59
Speaker 11: that know versual licensure bill was a good one, the
26:02
Speaker 11: one stop shop permitting. He had some government organization kind
26:06
Speaker 11: of reorganization bills that were good, the unfortunately named micro
26:11
Speaker 11: grid bill. They need to call that the data center bill, right,
26:15
Speaker 11: like it's you know, who knows what a micro grid is? So,
26:18
Speaker 11: you know, I think that data center bill was a
26:20
Speaker 11: good one, or could potentially be a really really good
26:23
Speaker 11: one from a from a revenue side, Well, what would.
26:26
Speaker 4: You say on the micro grid bill? There were a
26:28
Speaker 4: few folks, I know Senator Phillips was one that had
26:32
Speaker 4: some concerns about that. Do you think that those concerns
26:36
Speaker 4: were founded? Yeah, yes, yes I do.
26:40
Speaker 11: I mean I think this is anytime you approach sort
26:44
Speaker 11: of a new industry, right, which is this is it's like,
26:46
Speaker 11: you know, you you really have to worry about unintended consequences,
26:50
Speaker 11: right because you can come in and say, all right, hey,
26:52
Speaker 11: what do we have to do to bring in these
26:54
Speaker 11: data centers? And I'm a hundred Look, I'm as pro
26:56
Speaker 11: economic development as anybody, but you also say, how does
27:00
Speaker 11: that how's that going to interact with the businesses that
27:02
Speaker 11: we have. I mean, what what will it do? And
27:05
Speaker 11: so uh that you know that warranted the debate. To
27:09
Speaker 11: be honest with you, I don't. I don't know exactly
27:11
Speaker 11: how it came out. I mean I heard about the
27:13
Speaker 11: debates and stuff. I wasn't you know, intimately involved in that,
27:17
Speaker 11: but I would say that, you know, I think, Look,
27:19
Speaker 11: I think this is going to you know, we're an
27:21
Speaker 11: energy state. You know, we need to be involved in
27:23
Speaker 11: the data center, you know, industries we just do and
27:26
Speaker 11: and we will be you and hopefully this legislation will
27:29
Speaker 11: will you know, facilitate more of those in the state.
27:34
Speaker 11: You know, Morsey had a couple other bills too, you
27:36
Speaker 11: know that the defining the men and women, the you know,
27:38
Speaker 11: ending the DEI stuff with state government within state government.
27:43
Speaker 11: You know, all that was good stuff. He did have
27:46
Speaker 11: those couple And look, I think part of what Morsey
27:48
Speaker 11: did too, right, he had that group of people that
27:51
Speaker 11: like supported him very early in the campaign were the
27:55
Speaker 11: people that he was working with to get stuff done
27:58
Speaker 11: early in the legislative session. And that probably wasn't the
28:01
Speaker 11: best team to have, right, I mean, just I think
28:03
Speaker 11: the legislators he were working with were some of the
28:05
Speaker 11: kind of fringy folks that that just really aren't very
28:08
Speaker 11: good at getting things accomplished at the Capitol. And I
28:12
Speaker 11: think he learned from that, right and so as he
28:14
Speaker 11: went to these other bills to get them done, he
28:17
Speaker 11: expanded the group of people that he had helping him
28:20
Speaker 11: out and so and and that's why you have a
28:23
Speaker 11: modest agenda your first session, because you need to learn
28:27
Speaker 11: those things, right.
28:28
Speaker 4: So it was a learning experience. And Greg, you know
28:30
Speaker 4: yesterday had Senator Guitar on the State Wide show yesterday
28:34
Speaker 4: and and this and well actually we had the governor
28:37
Speaker 4: on the show yesterday as well on the Metro News midday.
28:41
Speaker 4: It's a learning experience for a lot of reasons. Number One,
28:45
Speaker 4: in under the Capitol, you had a bunch of new members, Okay,
28:49
Speaker 4: and I'm not criticizing them, I'm just calling it like
28:52
Speaker 4: it is.
28:52
Speaker 3: It used to be.
28:54
Speaker 4: If you were a new member of a legislature. The
28:56
Speaker 4: joke was you spent the first year trying to find
28:59
Speaker 4: out where the bathroom was. You know, you just can
29:01
Speaker 4: take it kind of quiet and set back and take
29:03
Speaker 4: it all in. We had some legislators I think that
29:06
Speaker 4: came in this time around that didn't get that memo.
29:10
Speaker 4: I'm not saying necessarily they should, but they Oh no,
29:13
Speaker 4: they definitely should have.
29:15
Speaker 8: Definitely should, but they came.
29:16
Speaker 2: In with an agenda.
29:18
Speaker 4: You had that you had Governor Morrissey coming in, who
29:23
Speaker 4: was a learning experience and he would tell you this
29:25
Speaker 4: for him because he is used to be an attorney general,
29:27
Speaker 4: where so I said before, you know, you can have
29:30
Speaker 4: debate within your office, but at the end of the day,
29:32
Speaker 4: if you're on the Board of Public Works, it's your
29:34
Speaker 4: name outside the door, you're going to get the final safe.
29:36
Speaker 4: So not that way when you're the governor, because you're
29:38
Speaker 4: working with all these legislators. So there is that also
29:41
Speaker 4: for the legislators that have been there for a while,
29:44
Speaker 4: they had a more hands on governor, one that was
29:47
Speaker 4: actually there, and a hands on first Lady for that matter.
29:51
Speaker 4: So it was a learning experience, Greg I think all
29:53
Speaker 4: around for everybody.
29:54
Speaker 11: That say yeah, and I think there's no doubt, and
29:57
Speaker 11: I think that because you had all these new statewide
30:02
Speaker 11: office holders though this this would have been the opportunity
30:05
Speaker 11: for veteran legislators to get things done, and you had
30:09
Speaker 11: some veteran legislators in the State Senate that honestly are
30:12
Speaker 11: just incompetent and they really couldn't get anything done because
30:18
Speaker 11: there are a bunch of folks that shouldn't have been
30:19
Speaker 11: in leadership to begin with. You gotta name names here,
30:23
Speaker 11: I mean that half of the leadership team, you know.
30:26
Speaker 11: I mean, look, I think Stewart did a good job.
30:28
Speaker 11: You know, you know local Kenwall County State Senator Stewart,
30:31
Speaker 11: who has had a Senate judiciary. He did a good
30:33
Speaker 11: job trying to get some of the things he wanted through,
30:35
Speaker 11: but he just had a committee that was beholden to
30:38
Speaker 11: the person injury lawyers, and so you couldn't really get
30:40
Speaker 11: anything pro jobs through.
30:43
Speaker 5: You know.
30:43
Speaker 11: But I think some of your other you know, committee
30:46
Speaker 11: chairs and stuff in the State Senate were you know,
30:48
Speaker 11: just folks that aren't just aren't very good at legislating,
30:52
Speaker 11: and they didn't get a lot accomplished. We've got this
30:56
Speaker 11: group within the Republican Party now that you know, they
31:00
Speaker 11: run around and they yell about freedom and medical freedom
31:03
Speaker 11: and all this stuff. Yet we're in a state where
31:07
Speaker 11: what is it, seventy two percent of our funding comes.
31:09
Speaker 5: From the federal government, you know, pretty high. You know,
31:14
Speaker 5: the eighty five.
31:15
Speaker 11: You know, how can you have medical freedom when eighty
31:18
Speaker 11: five percent of the patients that walk into a hospital
31:21
Speaker 11: the government.
31:22
Speaker 5: Pays the bill when they leave. How are you going
31:24
Speaker 5: to have freedom with that?
31:25
Speaker 11: How are you going to have How do you really
31:27
Speaker 11: have freedom when far more than half of West Virginians
31:30
Speaker 11: wait for a government check on the first of the
31:32
Speaker 11: month to pay their bills. What kind of freedom do
31:36
Speaker 11: we have? And like that's so when they talk about
31:39
Speaker 11: all this stuff, it's literally just stuff to get like
31:42
Speaker 11: Facebook likes, Like we have to get people working, right, Like,
31:46
Speaker 11: we didn't do anything to create jobs.
31:49
Speaker 5: We didn't do anything. You know what people care about.
31:51
Speaker 11: People care about jobs, people get about roads, people get
31:53
Speaker 11: about schools. We didn't address that stuff. We were out
31:57
Speaker 11: here on fringy stuff to get likes on Facebook, you know.
32:00
Speaker 11: And by the way, if you go to those the
32:02
Speaker 11: legislators facebooks, they don't get very many likes, you know,
32:06
Speaker 11: but that's what they do. I mean it for them,
32:08
Speaker 11: it's well, I spot you know, look at go, look
32:10
Speaker 11: at the go, look.
32:11
Speaker 5: At the social media from some of these folks.
32:13
Speaker 11: It's like, well, I sponsored this bill, and I'm the
32:15
Speaker 11: chair of this and I'm that it's all about them.
32:18
Speaker 11: It has nothing, there's not it. There isn't a cause,
32:22
Speaker 11: there isn't like I do it for this group of
32:24
Speaker 11: people or whatever. That's not what they do.
32:26
Speaker 5: You know.
32:26
Speaker 11: They do it because they like having the title, and
32:30
Speaker 11: because they like that, they're willing to take money from
32:34
Speaker 11: non conservative interest like personal injury lawyers that help them
32:38
Speaker 11: get in there so that they can just keep the title.
32:40
Speaker 11: And that's what we're exposing. I mean, it's it's it's outrageous.

35:46
Speaker 4: publicly worship Bush, Reagan or Ford. It's weird. People see
35:49
Speaker 4: you as weird when you do it, Texas. There are
35:52
Speaker 4: many reasons the session was bad. One of those reasons
35:55
Speaker 4: a lack of vision in leadership. Roger Hanshaw has ran
35:58
Speaker 4: its course. He has no vision left. Randy Smith doesn't
36:00
Speaker 4: even know what he's doing. Get better leaders, get leaders
36:03

36:07

36:09
Speaker 4: Tex says, you get the worst session ever when your

36:15
Speaker 4: those pexi Epesky Democrats are just mucking up the party

36:27
Speaker 4: You have a super duper majority and still can't lead.
36:29
Speaker 4: It's sad, we you know.
36:34
Speaker 5: I'll read a couple of my texts.
36:35
Speaker 11: Okay, I gotta get text on here too. I got
36:37
Speaker 11: one from a good friend. Well, just because it segues
36:39
Speaker 11: into what they just said. I mean, I've got one
36:41
Speaker 11: here says crisis of competency by the attention seeking caucus,
36:46
Speaker 11: bad teammates.
36:49
Speaker 4: And that's somebody that texted your You don't have to
36:52
Speaker 4: give it up, but that's somebody that's texting you.
36:55
Speaker 5: Just friends of mine texted me.
36:56
Speaker 11: And then I got another one to tell me to
36:57
Speaker 11: quit sucking up to Morrissey, which is not a text
37:00
Speaker 11: I've ever received before, because I've never done that before.
37:03
Speaker 4: We were pretty critical. I was very critical of mister
37:06
Speaker 4: Morrisey before he was governor. I mean, you really were.
37:09
Speaker 11: I was my thought on this right now for Morrison. Look, look,
37:14
Speaker 11: I do think he had a modest agenda and he
37:16
Speaker 11: you know, he did a better job as the session
37:18
Speaker 11: went on to get it done. I think because of
37:21
Speaker 11: you know, some of your texters here aren't wrong, because
37:24
Speaker 11: we do need stronger leadership in the legislature if we're
37:28
Speaker 11: gonna get things done. Morrisey's going to have to have
37:32
Speaker 11: more aggressive agendas than what he had this time. I
37:35
Speaker 11: know yesterday, you know, on the state wide shows. You know,
37:39
Speaker 11: Morsey had talked about, you know, need to do special sessions.
37:42
Speaker 11: You know, mentioned things like PIA and education and some
37:45
Speaker 11: other stuff. We have huge problems in the state that
37:49
Speaker 11: really do need addressed. And here, you know, we've we've
37:52
Speaker 11: wasted sixty days to not address almost any of those problems.
37:56
Speaker 11: And so Morrisey, you know, Morrisey's talked about, you know,
37:59
Speaker 11: he had a couple kind of small ball government reord
38:02
Speaker 11: things he's talked about doing, you know, brought in you know,
38:05
Speaker 11: new new department heads, having these top down reviews. He
38:10
Speaker 11: needs to have major reforms on the on the agenda
38:13
Speaker 11: next time major government reforms. Uh he talks about the
38:17
Speaker 11: bar backyard brawl that he you know, with respect to
38:20
Speaker 11: kind of an economic you know, competitiveness with our surrounding
38:23
Speaker 11: states on creating jobs, he really needs to work with
38:27
Speaker 11: with job creators around the state to figure out what
38:29
Speaker 11: we've got to do to do that, because you're not
38:31
Speaker 11: going to get that let you're not going to get
38:33
Speaker 11: that leadership from this legislature.
38:34
Speaker 5: You're just not.
38:36
Speaker 11: And uh So, if we're going to create jobs, if
38:39
Speaker 11: we're going to actually tackle the stuff a government Morris
38:42
Speaker 11: he's going to have to do it, and he's going
38:44
Speaker 11: to have to do it, whether he does some of
38:45
Speaker 11: it in special sessions, whether he waits till the next
38:47
Speaker 11: legislative session.
38:50
Speaker 5: You know.
38:50
Speaker 11: So there's some big things that he has talked about
38:53
Speaker 11: doing on the campaign trail, he talked about in the
38:56
Speaker 11: uh you know, when he was sworn in and all that.
39:00
Speaker 11: You know, let's you know, I'm optimistic that there'll be
39:04
Speaker 11: big time things coming on that front, and so I'm supportive,
39:09
Speaker 11: you know, until we get that stuff.
39:11

Speaker 4: Dot Conference Tales, Texas. Greg is exactly right. The Senate
39:26
Speaker 4: used to be the voice of reason, but poor leadership
39:29
Speaker 4: made them the voice of the crazies. The House was
39:32
Speaker 4: the chamber of reason.
39:33
Speaker 11: That was true this time, you know. And look, and
39:37
Speaker 11: I don't really look. Randy Smith is a really nice guy.
39:41
Speaker 11: I'm buddies with his friend Scott. I like I've liked,
39:43
Speaker 11: you know, Randy's Randy's been a good vote for a decade.
39:47
Speaker 11: You know, his politics are real close to where mine
39:51
Speaker 11: are personally. But he ran for State Senate kind of saying, hey,
39:56
Speaker 11: we're gonna put people in you know, these chairmanships, and
39:59
Speaker 11: we're gonna let them run their committees the way they
40:01
Speaker 11: see fit. He just didn't pick very good chairs. You know,
40:04
Speaker 11: that was the problem. And so I I, you know,
40:07
Speaker 11: I don't really put this on on Randy's feet, the
40:10
Speaker 11: center president's feet. You know, he's going to have to
40:15
Speaker 11: take a He's going to have to take some of
40:16
Speaker 11: this downtime and say, hey, do we want to keep
40:18
Speaker 11: this team here?
40:19
Speaker 5: Right?
40:20
Speaker 11: Is this that the team that I've surrounded myself by
40:23
Speaker 11: are we Am I going to keep them there or not?
40:26
Speaker 11: I don't think he should, but I think that if
40:29
Speaker 11: he doesn't, you know, we're going to end up with
40:31
Speaker 11: another really tough session. And if Morrissey actually has the
40:35
Speaker 11: aggressive agenda, you know that I hope that he's going
40:38
Speaker 11: to have next time. I don't see how he passes
40:41
Speaker 11: it with the leadership team in the State Senate that's
40:43
Speaker 11: in place right now. I mean, you're going to have
40:45
Speaker 11: to have competent people be able to get this through,
40:47
Speaker 11: and I think that this session was showed that they
40:50
Speaker 11: don't have that level of competency to get it through.
40:52
Speaker 4: Tex says lol Maga super Majority checks notes blames the
40:56
Speaker 4: three Democrats in the building for their incompetence, holding out
40:59
Speaker 4: for blame for Hillary for something.
41:04
Speaker 11: I mean, I don't think I talked about the actual well,
41:07
Speaker 11: I mean I said there's Democrats with you.
41:10
Speaker 4: I don't know that you've mentioned democrats. I mean someone
41:12
Speaker 4: with an actual D after their name. Oh, your issue
41:15
Speaker 4: seems to be with the Republican.
41:16
Speaker 11: Oh, certainly because there's no there's almost no Democrats to
41:18
Speaker 11: be upset with, right, I mean there's there's almost none
41:20
Speaker 11: of them up there.
41:23
Speaker 5: Look, okay, let's talk about Democrats.
41:25
Speaker 11: I think the Democrats need to do a better job
41:27
Speaker 11: of having a real message, right, I mean, they don't have.
41:30
Speaker 5: One right now.
41:31
Speaker 4: I don't think it matters.
41:32
Speaker 5: In the national one. The national one.
41:34
Speaker 11: Is so bad, you know, the national Democrats are And
41:40
Speaker 11: part of it is because they've just catered to their fringe.
41:44
Speaker 11: And yet here we are in West Virginia and we
41:46
Speaker 11: have a lot of we have a lot of people
41:48
Speaker 11: in the Republican Party, right, now, especially in the legislature
41:51
Speaker 11: that ran for office, is kind of a I want
41:54
Speaker 11: to get back at these national liberals for shoving all
41:57
Speaker 11: this stuff down our throats.
41:58
Speaker 5: And I appreciate that.
41:59
Speaker 11: I'm with you on the woke stuff and the trand
42:01
Speaker 11: all that stuff was crazy. But what you can't do
42:04
Speaker 11: is say, hey, they were real mean to us and
42:07
Speaker 11: didn't let us do what we wanted to do and
42:09
Speaker 11: shoved everything down through our throats. You know what we'll do,
42:12
Speaker 11: We'll shove it down their threats that that's not That's
42:15
Speaker 11: how you end up in the minority.
42:17
Speaker 5: Right, Like, we have to have reasonable legislation. We have
42:20
Speaker 5: to have.
42:21
Speaker 11: Things that that we want to do proactively, you know,
42:28
Speaker 11: we have to have things that we want to do
42:30
Speaker 11: proactively to create jobs, to to you know, increase affordable
42:35
Speaker 11: you know, access to affordable healthcare in West Virginia, to
42:38
Speaker 11: fix the roads, to better schools, better education.
42:41
Speaker 7: Uh.
42:41
Speaker 11: And we just we didn't have any of those solutions.
42:44
Speaker 11: Very few of those solutions were even offered up during
42:46
Speaker 11: the session.
42:46
Speaker 4: Let me knock out as many tax as we can
42:48
Speaker 4: here before we go to break our states as a
42:49
Speaker 4: texture is going backwards. We're losing our rights being told
42:52
Speaker 4: what to eat, and letting big business poison our water,
42:55
Speaker 4: and going against the will of the people, independent voters
42:57
Speaker 4: being told they can't vote for what party they want.
43:00
Speaker 4: Then we need to take our state back. Hell says.
43:03
Speaker 4: The texture might have frozen over the day. Since I
43:05
Speaker 4: agree with much of Thomas's assessment of the legislature, Tex says,
43:10
Speaker 4: according to Education Secretary Linda McMahon, we have a good
43:12
Speaker 4: chance of building a one sauce factories. Did you see that?
43:16
Speaker 5: I didn't.
43:16
Speaker 4: Well she I mean it was a slip of the tongue.
43:20
Speaker 4: She was talking about AI and she was reading something.
43:22
Speaker 4: She said A one, So I mean it can happen.
43:25
Speaker 11: I like a one sauce though, I mean I think
43:27
Speaker 11: a lot of people do. I mean, it's been around
43:29
Speaker 11: for like I like it. It's been right for like
43:30
Speaker 11: one hundred fifty years.
43:31
Speaker 8: I like it.
43:32
Speaker 4: But if you put it on the steak in my presence,
43:34
Speaker 4: we're no longer friend.
43:34
Speaker 5: But it's still pretty delicious.
43:35
Speaker 4: It is pretty delicious, but steaks don't need anything of it.
43:38
Speaker 11: But I think we should have MOREI one sauce factories though,
43:41
Speaker 11: more promo.
43:42
Speaker 5: Who's a getst ay one? Who's this anti a one
43:46
Speaker 5: sauce can.
43:47
Speaker 4: Check their anti Lenda McMahon, Tex says Greg Thomas. For
43:53
Speaker 4: some reason, we had TJ in here, and TJ's laughing
43:55
Speaker 4: at this, Tex says Dave. Greg Thomas is at least
43:58
Speaker 4: honest about the fact he represents the extreme far right
44:01
Speaker 4: of the party. Sad that he's so critical of those
44:03
Speaker 4: closer to the middle who represent actual Eisenhower Esque values.
44:07
Speaker 4: By definition, that makes him an extrememist, and extremists suck
44:11
Speaker 4: twenty seconds.
44:13
Speaker 11: I mean, that's literally the opposite of what I said
44:16
Speaker 11: during its whole thing. But uh, I don't know, I
44:19
Speaker 11: don't I don't even know what to say that. I mean,
44:21
Speaker 11: the fringe is what messed us up, not where we
44:23
Speaker 11: need to be.
44:24

47:04
Speaker 4: Welcome back to the show. Greg Thomas is here. Tex says,
47:07
Speaker 4: Greg is right. Governor Morrissey did have a solid session
47:10
Speaker 4: despite what the gazette says. Much more to come. Tex says,
47:13
Speaker 4: Morrissey can't be afraid of Musk. I mean, I'm sorry,
47:16
Speaker 4: can't be afraid of can't be afraid he must be
47:18
Speaker 4: working with powerful leaders of the legislature. They get things done.
47:23
Speaker 4: Tex says, how are jobs going to McDowell County when
47:26
Speaker 4: it takes two and a half hours to get there
47:27
Speaker 4: on winding roads and it's an all and it's an
47:29
Speaker 4: hour away from the nearest interstate. What industry besides Cole
47:32
Speaker 4: wants to be that geographically isolated Miss Biden. Yet with
47:37
Speaker 4: all them good green jobs that are dried up, where's Trump?
47:41
Speaker 4: Tex says Greg. Today's Republican party is anything but reasonable.
47:44
Speaker 4: You're complaining about eleven Democrats in the West Virginia legislature,
47:47
Speaker 4: trans people and will culture for your parties failing again. Sad,
47:51
Speaker 4: I don't think you did that at all. You just
47:54
Speaker 4: you literally just said that they need to stop focusing
47:57
Speaker 4: on things like that. That's pretty much what you said.
47:59
Speaker 4: I don't want to put words. Oh, by the way,
48:00
Speaker 4: I got to get this out, but ave Allen showing
48:01
Speaker 4: five any Live is brought to you part by your
48:03
Speaker 4: hometown baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds.
48:05
Speaker 11: Go ahead, Yeah, I mean, look this, this legislature here
48:09
Speaker 11: was it's really odd.
48:10
Speaker 13: Right.
48:10
Speaker 11: It's like I think that the reason they go so
48:13
Speaker 11: hard in the paint on the social issues stuff is
48:16
Speaker 11: to distract from the fact that they're actually democrats on
48:20
Speaker 11: the economic stuff and on the governmental stuff.
48:22
Speaker 3: Right.
48:22
Speaker 11: I mean, this legislature was as big government as any
48:26
Speaker 11: we've had in more than a decade. I agree every
48:30
Speaker 11: you know, every problem. The solution was more government, more control,
48:35
Speaker 11: another agents and other you know, another task force, another rule.
48:39
Speaker 4: We're taking our cheetos, the food.
48:41
Speaker 11: I think that's the best example, right, the ban on
48:44
Speaker 11: the band, the food Die band, whatever it was. You
48:47
Speaker 11: know these guys, right, they want to they do love
48:50
Speaker 11: Trump and they were trying to be Trumpier than Trump. Right,
48:53
Speaker 11: So it's like, all right, Trump comes out and says
48:54
Speaker 11: we're going to ban the food dies in the in
48:56
Speaker 11: the school the food that we send to the schools
48:58
Speaker 11: that the government pays for.
49:00
Speaker 5: Okay, that's fine, the government pays for it.
49:02
Speaker 11: And then so for some reason, West Virginia legislators were like, well, man,
49:06
Speaker 11: let's make it to where there's a ban on all
49:08
Speaker 11: those food dies. You know, we're going to ban it
49:10
Speaker 11: all so nobody can have it and nobody can distribute it,
49:13
Speaker 11: nobody can sell it, and nobody can eat it. And
49:16
Speaker 11: you're like, real problem, What when did the Republican Party
49:20
Speaker 11: have the like when did they have the meeting where
49:24
Speaker 11: we decided to no longer be small government local control?
49:28
Speaker 5: When when did they have that? I missed it. I
49:30
Speaker 5: didn't get invited to that meeting. I've been a Republican
49:33
Speaker 5: for a while.
49:33
Speaker 4: All right, TJ. You had a question for TJ. Meadows
49:36
Speaker 4: hosted talk line. Go ahead.
49:37
Speaker 13: So Dave and I are blessed to be on the
49:38
Speaker 13: radio every day and speak our mind and talk the
49:41
Speaker 13: issues with the people. We have been branded, and Dave,
49:44
Speaker 13: I think the trademark is pending. We've been branded country
49:48
Speaker 13: Club Republicans, Chamber of Commerce, Republicans, Republicans, country Club Conservatives
49:55
Speaker 13: is what we've been branded. So you know what we're
49:57
Speaker 13: going to go with that. We're going to start a
49:58
Speaker 13: new party, and we are inviting you today see join.
50:02
Speaker 4: The party with us.
50:04
Speaker 5: See.
50:04
Speaker 11: I feel like I'm more of a Sam's Club Republican.
50:08
Speaker 11: Like That's that's where I'm at, Like like like I
50:11
Speaker 11: can definitely like I'm with you on most of the
50:13
Speaker 11: country Club Republican stuff too, But I feel like I'm
50:16
Speaker 11: like the next layer closer of like the Sam's Club
50:19
Speaker 11: Republican and that, and that's sort of where I think
50:21
Speaker 11: I've always kind of felt that I was.
50:24
Speaker 4: I mean, I just more working class.
50:27
Speaker 11: Yeah yeah, I mean like I'm for a lot of
50:29
Speaker 11: that right, like like I want the no income tax,
50:31
Speaker 11: like I want like.
50:32
Speaker 5: Oh I do too. I feel I feel.
50:34
Speaker 11: Connected to some of the populist stuff that goes on,
50:38
Speaker 11: as I do think West Virginians do. But then these
50:40
Speaker 11: guys always like take it too far right. It's like
50:42
Speaker 11: there's never it's like they you know, any bill that
50:45
Speaker 11: they had, like they have good ideas if it was
50:48
Speaker 11: like seventy five percent of it was implemented, but they
50:51
Speaker 11: go like one hundred and ten right, and they do
50:52
Speaker 11: that though because they want to. I think They do
50:55
Speaker 11: it for two reasons. One they do it for the attention,
50:57
Speaker 11: and two they're always looking for some kind of like
51:00
Speaker 11: wedge issue in a primary, right because now we don't
51:02
Speaker 11: have general elections anymore, so it's not like it's not
51:05
Speaker 11: just black and white, it's like grays, and so they
51:09
Speaker 11: try to find these definitive issues within the gray areas,
51:14
Speaker 11: and they try to just sponsor.
51:16
Speaker 4: This you get elected with thirty four percent of the vote.
51:18
Speaker 11: Well, and that's the other problem too. Look, we got
51:20
Speaker 11: to quit having three and four If we keep having
51:23
Speaker 11: three and four way primaries, we're going to keep electing
51:25
Speaker 11: fringe people and that's how you lose control of the state.
51:30
Speaker 11: And look, I spent twenty five years trying to, you know,
51:33
Speaker 11: get this legislative majority, and it pains me to have
51:35
Speaker 11: a session as bad as the one we just did.
51:37
Speaker 4: But Dave Anancho on five any line broight to you
