- 0:41The f A Hey, y'all, welcome today's show. What a beautiful day
- 1:03it is. We had a big rainstorm yesterday. It's cooled things off,
- 1:06so I've been outside all day doing yard work and trying to get caught up,
- 1:11and I let my writing slide a little for the day. I'm gonna
- 1:15have to see if I can work a little later tonight. You know,
- 1:18that's the thing about being self employed. People say, oh, it must
- 1:21be so nice, you know, to be your own boss. I'm like,
- 1:23yeah, it is, it's great, but you know what, you
- 1:26have to be an absolute tyrant with yourself. I don't get off work at
- 1:29five o'clock if the work's not done. It's got to be done before I
- 1:33call it a day. So, but in today's podcast, we're gonna talk
- 1:38about one of my favorite subjects, which I guess was somewhat surprising when I
- 1:42converted to Catholicism. It's the veneration of the Mother of God. Nothing I
- 1:48ever experienced as a Protestant, only learned about it when I became Catholic.
- 1:53I guess was a little reluctant at first, but now it's just as much
- 1:56a part of my life and faith as you know, go into Mass or
- 2:01anything else is that a Catholic does. So let's talk. Let's start with
- 2:06radio replies. And now we have an English nationalist, an outspoken Anglican,
- 2:13an Englishman who thinks that all Catholics are traders to the crown. You actually,
- 2:21that was really It's still common in England. Actually, I'm on the
- 2:24upper class especially. It was really calm in the United States until Kennedy was
- 2:30president, because he said he'd do whatever the Democratic part Democrat Party platform was
- 2:36before he'd listened to the pope. And that did not make him a good
- 2:39Catholic. And I don't think he was a very good president at all,
- 2:44although I do appreciate his anti communist sentiments. Now, of course we have
- 2:50Biden, who is an absolute apostate, promoting abortion and transgendering gay stuff and
- 2:58a truly evil man. But does he even have the mental clarity to know
- 3:02that he's evil? I mean, did you see the debate the other week?
- 3:05Last week? It was that was a train wreck and slow motion?
- 3:09That was eh, And I'm not entertained. Bob Dylan. Actually, Joe
- 3:16Biden, we beat better care. Women are raped by their sisters, and
- 3:23you know, incoherent, babbling, senile, desiccated corpse that's barely still walking,
- 3:30so barely did you see his wife lead him off the stage? Do
- 3:34you how comfortable do you feel knowing this man's walking around with the nuclear football?
- 3:40And that was then? I think it's depends on where the missiles launched.
- 3:45You know, if the Russians and Chinese and such are putting missiles in
- 3:49Cuba and Panama, they could hit us in like nine minutes. I think,
- 3:53you know, if they're actually launched from China and Russia, we could
- 3:55be hit by nuclear missiles in like sixteen minutes, if my memory is correct.
- 4:00And the White House staffers are saying Biden's not even coherent before ten am
- 4:04or after four pm, so hey that I'll make you sleep well at night,
- 4:10right? You know? Trump may offend you sometimes, you may not
- 4:15like every one of his positions, but if it's a oh, I don't
- 4:20know, midnight and putin I mean, you know, China, Kim Jong
- 4:29on, whomever watches an attack, who are you going to feel more confident
- 4:33about being coherent and able to respond appropriately. I know who I'm picking.
- 4:41I am droking Trump all the way, and I cannot wait till he's back
- 4:45in office. You know, people say, well, what about Kennedy.
- 4:49You know Robert Kennedy Jr. Well, he's very pro abortion, partial birth
- 4:56abortion, late term abortion. He's a bad Catholic as well. He's also
- 5:00has said that anyone who disagrees with global warming should be put in prison.
- 5:04I like him on some issues, but I can't support this man. I
- 5:08can't support any politician that promotes abortion. And Donald Trump's not perfect on the
- 5:14issue, but his heads and shoulders better than any of the other ones.
- 5:15And let's look at it this way. I heard all my life from President
- 5:19Reagan, from George H. W. Bush, from George W. Bush,
- 5:25from Bob Dole, from Mitt Romney, from John McCain that they were
- 5:30opposed to abortion and they were going to overturn roversus way. When President Trump
- 5:36first ran, I was really hesitant to support him. I back Cruise on
- 5:42the primary without a doubt. Ted Cruz was my guy. You know,
- 5:46I mean that was a lot because the things he said in the past about
- 5:49abortion. He's had a change of heart. No, he's not perfect on
- 5:53the issue, but consider that all those presidential candidates I just pointed out,
- 5:59never once attend to March for Life. Even George W. Bush would not
- 6:01attendant in person. Donald Trump did. Donald Trump overturned Roe versus Wade.
- 6:08He put the judges on the court that actually got the job done. Don't
- 6:11let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Well, anyway, let's
- 6:15get on to this. The person says, does your allegiance to the Pope
- 6:20conflict with your duty as a British subject? Remember that your church is controlled
- 6:26by a foreign temporal king. That's how well the British think of themselves.
- 6:30So the English literally think they should rule the world and should be able to
- 6:34override the Pope, the vicar of Christ, the representative of God on earth.
- 6:40Well, you know, I'm not real big on the monarchy of England,
- 6:44the Protestant monarchy of England, or a lot of a lot about Protestant
- 6:49England before the birth of the Anglican Church. Four be King Henry the Eighth,
- 6:55I could argue very strongly that it was the greatest nation on earth,
- 7:00especially since my ancestors were its kings. I mean, I'm directly descended of,
- 7:03you know, Saint Edward the Confessor, King Richard Lyonheart. A lot
- 7:10of guys in the House of Essex, Wessex, I'm sorry, the House
- 7:14of Wessex, whose names I can't even pronounce, like Aerro, Awaith and
- 7:17such. You know, I'm directly descended from them through my relationship to Lord
- 7:24Cheshire, who was like my great great great great grandfather or something, very
- 7:29proud of Catholic England. It was like they had the best universities, the
- 7:33best hospitals. I mean, you know, it's only rival is France,
- 7:38Rome, was it even? I mean, if you were to go back
- 7:42to before, you know, fifteen hundred and compare the country, trust me,
- 7:45you'd much rather live in England than well, Italy because it was very
- 7:49hot, of course, but Ingland was also much more modern and comfortable,
- 7:55as odd as that may seem to our thinking now, I mean would be
- 7:59primitive for us, but you know, it was a lot more modern than
- 8:03the what do they call it the Eternal City or whatever? All right,
- 8:09so they answer to British Catholics. The church is not controlled by a foreigner.
- 8:15She's controlled by the Vicar of Christ. It would be just the same
- 8:18if Saint Peter was still there today and he was a Palestinian Jew. Let's
- 8:22talk about what is a Palestinian Jew. Okay, there was no country you
- 8:28get called Palestine until after the Romans expelled the Jews from Israel, and they
- 8:33named it Palestina as an insult to the Jews, naming it after their rivals,
- 8:39the Philistines. All he means is that Saint Peter was Jewish from the
- 8:45area we now might refer to as Palestine. There is no legitimate claim to
- 8:52Israel by the Palestinians. It was never their home, it was never their
- 8:56country. I wish Rome had not named Israel Palestina, but they did and
- 9:05created out of whole cloth, as they say, made up a people called
- 9:09the Palestinians. They were never Palestinians before then, most I mean, yep.
- 9:15They just moved in after the Jews were removed, basically, and you
- 9:18know, took over what was already built, which you know, what do
- 9:22you do if a Frenchman or an Englishman were elected, No Italian Catholic would
- 9:31regard the pope as the pope in the light of foreign nationality, by which
- 9:37they just mean that Italians wouldn't consider his nationality. He'd be the Pope.
- 9:41He'd be Pope, like you know, John Paul, the Second was Polish,
- 9:46and Pope Benedict was a German Bavarian, I guess, but he was
- 9:50still the Pope. I cannot be at once subject to two opposed monarchs,
- 9:56such as national sovereigns. I can be subject to my earthly ruler in the
- 10:01temporal and to the representative Christ in the spiritual. Until the Reformation so called,
- 10:07all Englishmen were subject to the Pope, yet were filled with great love
- 10:11for their country. You would not presume to say that there was not a
- 10:13single loyal Englishman at the time of Henry the fifth. Yet all of England
- 10:20was Catholic then, and any Catholics can do today what Catholics could do then.
- 10:26The only Catholics in the world who owe temporal allegiance to the Pope are
- 10:30those who actually reside in Vatican City, over which and over which only he
- 10:35has full rights as a temporal ruler. If though unjust ambition, if through
- 10:45an unjust ambition, the Vatican City state were to dispatch an immense army to
- 10:52invade Tralia, it would be the duty of the Australian Catholics who join the
- 10:56Australian army and defend the country that ought to make clear, the spiritual allegiance
- 11:01to the pope does not interfere with our citizenship. Person says, I still
- 11:07maintain, you cannot be loyal by law. The king is the head of
- 11:09the Anglican Church, a law you must ignore. And they said, Catholics
- 11:15are perfectly loyal to the Protestant King. They admit that he is head of
- 11:18the Anglican Church, as the law declares, since by law is the head
- 11:22of that church. Every Catholic says, right, he is the head of
- 11:24the Anglican Church, and loyalty demands know more. It certainly does not demand
- 11:30that I accept the church of which he is the head in religious matters.
- 11:33My loyalty is concerned with God. In earthly matters, I respect the laws
- 11:37of my nation. That law does not say and every citizen must belong to
- 11:41the Anglican Church. If it did, it would be an unjust law.
- 11:46At variance was God's law and not binding in conscience. Of course, it
- 11:48did once say that, and they slaughtered who knows how many thousand English Catholics
- 11:54because they refused to submit to the Anglican Church. Last week, I guess,
- 12:00was the memorial for Saint Thomas Moore. One of the most famous of
- 12:03the Christian martyrs, the Catholic martyrs under Anglicanism. As a person says,
- 12:09still, you are subject to Rome, and yet content to remain under the
- 12:13protection of the British flag. And they say, Catholics are subject to the
- 12:16Bishops of Rome and questions of religion, but they are not subject to him
- 12:20in national affairs. This distinction naturally flows from the doctrine region that the religion
- 12:26of Christ is not an affair of the British Empire, but for all men
- 12:30Britishers should be Christians. But Christianity is not necessary, is not necessarily British.
- 12:37We Catholics are not so foolish as to confuse the two things. As
- 12:39Catholics and as citizens, we are content to remain under the British flag and
- 12:43to shed our blood in defending it. Why should we not be. We
- 12:46are not Italians or Frenchmen or Germans, and we have as much right to
- 12:50love our country and die for it if necessary as any other citizens. And
- 12:56the guy gets apparently a little ruffled at this point and says, why do
- 12:58you hate everything English? And the priest responds, I do not. I
- 13:03am a purely English descent, and I acknowledge no other loyalty than that to
- 13:07the British Empire. I do not like English faults them. Love of my
- 13:13own mother is not demand that I call all her faults virtues. I am
- 13:18opposed to unjust laws which inflict disabilities on Catholics just because they are Catholics.
- 13:24I do not like the law which deprives the king a freedom of conscience insisting
- 13:28upon his being a Protestant. But that does not affect my loyalty. And
- 13:33we will finish the subject of loyalty the Pope or loyalty to the King.
- 13:39I guess that's the way he used to phrase it. Tomorrow. We'll wrap
- 13:43that up. And because I want to go ahead and get into the veneration
- 13:48of the Blessed version Mary, one of the most important doctrines of the Catholic
- 13:54Church, and one in which we agree with the Orthodox Churches. There very
- 14:01fond of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Even Martin Luther had a special devotion to
- 14:07the Blessed Virgin Mary, believe it or not. As thoroughly evil as the
- 14:11man was, even he, the founding Protestant, still believed in the very
- 14:18special nature of the Mother of God. Turning to Filer Sparago's exhaustive Catechism of
- 14:24the Catholic Church, we find there are many types or figures of our blessed
- 14:31Lady to be found in the Old Testament e. G. Or, for
- 14:35instance, Eve, the mother of all mankind, Noah's ark, wherein the
- 14:39human race was preserved from extinction. The Ark of the Covenant contained the Manna
- 14:43and also the word of God. You know on the tablets given to Moses,
- 14:48that's the word of God. And Jesus is also the word of God.
- 14:52So very in very many ways, the blessed Virgin Mary became the ark
- 14:56of the New Covenant, sure who was exempted from the universal law. As
- 15:01Mary was exempted from original sin and by her mediation rescued her people from death.
- 15:07The mother of the Maccabees, who witnessed the death of her seven sons,
- 15:11and whose heart, like Mary's, was pierced with seven swords, etc.
- 15:16The Gospels have little information respecting the life of our Lady. More concerning
- 15:22it may be learned. More concerning it may be learned from the revelations of
- 15:26the saints. Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ is usually called Mother of
- 15:30God or most blessed Virgin. Elizabeth was the first to call Mary mother of
- 15:35God in Luke one forty three. The Council of Ephesus in four thirty one
- 15:39confirmed this title d a genetrix that's Latin for mother of God, and condemned
- 15:45the contrary doctrine asserted by the heretic Nestorius. Mary gave birth to him who
- 15:52is God and Man in one person. A child does not receive its soul
- 15:54from its mother, but from God. Yet she of whom it is born
- 15:58is called its mother. In like manner, Mary is justly termed the Mother
- 16:03of God. Although Christ did not derive from her a divine nature, Mary
- 16:07is also rightly called the blessed Virgin. The words she spoke to the angel
- 16:11announced her determination to preserve her virginity and violet Luca one four. In the
- 16:18tints of that her saying that she had not known a man, it was
- 16:22implied that she would not. That's something our language doesn't. English doesn't really
- 16:30have those, like you know, means of conveying intent, but Aramaic does.
- 16:38Many ages before the prophet Isaiah's foretold that a virgin should conceive and bear's
- 16:44son Isaiah seven fourteen, in her conception, in child bearing, and after
- 16:49the birth of Jesus, Mary remained a virgin as the bush burned with fire
- 16:53and was not consumed. So Mary's virginity was not impaired by the birth of
- 16:57Christ, as her Lord appeared in the midst of the apostles, although the
- 17:02doors of the room where they were assembled were shut, so he came into
- 17:06the world and her chastis remained intact. So the Shun's sun shines through glass
- 17:11without any ways changing it. Mary is the window of heaven through which the
- 17:17true light came into the world. Those who are spoken of in the Gospels
- 17:21as brethren of Christ Matthew thirteen fifty five are his blood relatives. It was
- 17:26customary among the Jews to term their near relatives brethren, so they were cousins.
- 17:32That's all it means. Abraham called his nephew Lot by his name Genesis
- 17:37thirteen eight. Had Mary had other children who could have taken care of her,
- 17:42our Lord upon the cross would not have committed her. As Saint John
- 17:47Christausen remarks to the beloved disciple, Christ was called the first born to indicate
- 17:52the fact that he was According to Jewish law, sanctified to the Lord Exodus
- 17:56thirteen to two. Christ was in fact the first born among many brethren see
- 18:02Romans eight twenty nine. That is, all Christian people who are besides who
- 18:07are also the children of Mary. Mary was espoused to Joseph by God's commandment
- 18:11in order that she may not be stoned after the birth of Christ, and
- 18:15also in order to provide a guardian for her in the Divine Child. The
- 18:19name Mary is a Hebrew word meaning lady or mistress. We pay greater honor
- 18:25to marry the mother of Christ than to any other saint. Even in her
- 18:27lifetime, Mary had a great honor paid to her. At the annunciation,
- 18:32the Angel addressed her as full of grace and blessed among women Luke one eight.
- 18:37It is a great honor if an angel appears to mortal men and affords
- 18:40him an opportunity of showing him reverence. Yet at the denunciation it was not
- 18:44a man. It was not man who reverenced the angel, but the Angel
- 18:48who reverence man. Hence, Saint Thomas Aquinas says, we conclude that Mary
- 18:52excels the angels in dignity. How respectfully Elizabeth treated Mary. She called her
- 18:59blessed, or never have known which is right at which time, I'm just
- 19:03going to go with blessed, and gave her the title Mother of her Lord
- 19:07Luke one forty two and forty three. Mary herself foresaw that she would be
- 19:11praised by posterity, for she said, from henceforth all generations, she'll call
- 19:15me Blessed Luke one forty eight. The Church invites us to honor the Mother
- 19:21of God with special devotion. The hell Mary is almost invariably added to the
- 19:26our Father three times a day. The Angelus bells remind us of the mysteries
- 19:30of the incarnation and bids us to invoke the name of Mary. Many festivals
- 19:33have been instituted in her honor. The Litany of Loretto is recited at public
- 19:37services of the Church. The month of May, the fairest month of the
- 19:41year, is dedicated to her, and during October the rosaries recited daily.
- 19:47Moreover, numerous churches are erected in all lands in honor of the Mother of
- 19:51God, not a few of those being in being renowned places of pilgrimage,
- 19:55where signal graces and favors are obtained and the most glorious titles are given to
- 19:59her, such as Channel of Grace, Mother of Mercy, refuge of sinners,
- 20:03help of Christians, Queen of Heaven, etc. Yet the veneration we
- 20:07pay to Mary is distinct from the adoration due to God. Exalted honor is
- 20:11due to Mary. But the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost
- 20:15alone do we adore. We hold Mary in such great veneration because she is
- 20:21the Mother of God and our Mother. Whoever truly loves God must assuredly honor
- 20:26the Mother of God, and honor her too, far above all the saints,
- 20:29the friends of God. The honor paid to the Queen Mother is reflected
- 20:33upon the King her son. One may judge the measure in which a man
- 20:37loves God by his devotion to Mary. In fact, the greater the saint,
- 20:41the more intensely does he love Mary. She is actually our mother,
- 20:44for our Lord gave her to us upon the cross, when he said to
- 20:47Saint John, behold thy Mother, John nineteen twenty seven, John representing on
- 20:52Calvary all the followers of Christ. Mary is the second Eve, the mother
- 20:56of all mankind. As the disobedience of Eve brought upon the human race,
- 21:00so the obedience of Mary restored it to a state of grace. Through one
- 21:04woman, death came into the world and through another life. And since Mary
- 21:08is our mother, our salvation is more a matter of concern to her to
- 21:12any than to any of the saints. After Christ, no one cares more
- 21:18for us as she does. Saint Bernard declared that the love of all mothers
- 21:22in the world does not equal the love of Mary bears to each one of
- 21:26her children. And the reason she cares so much for us is because her
- 21:30love for God, and consequently her charity toward her neighbor, exceeds out of
- 21:33any saint. As the glory of the moon surpasses that of the stars,
- 21:38so the love of Mary for us exceeds all the angels. It is a
- 21:42boundless ocean of love. Mary knows all of our circumstances. This even the
- 21:48angels do Luke fifteen seven, and it cannot be supposed that they know more
- 21:52than does their queen. A dutiful child delights to be with its mother,
- 21:56and the devout Christian rejoices to address Mary, the Mother of God his loving
- 22:00supplications. Another reason why Mary is so highly honored throughout Christendom is because God
- 22:07has exalted her above all men. And angels monarchs grant privileges to the towns
- 22:12where they were born or where they were crowned. So the King of Heaven
- 22:17has conferred special privileges and prerogatives on the mother who bore him. Mary was
- 22:22in fact chosen by God to be the mother of his son, preserved from
- 22:25the stain of original sin, raised gloriously from the tomb, and crowned queen
- 22:29of Heaven. No angel, not even the most perfect and greatest of the
- 22:33heavenly hosts, can say to God as Mary, can thou art my son,
- 22:38Oh, what a marvelous privilege this is. Mary is indeed the matter
- 22:44admirabilus, admirabyllus, the admirable mother. That's Latin, and that not alone
- 22:52because she is at one and the same time virgin and mother, nor because
- 22:56she is mother both the creature and of the Creator, but pre eminently because
- 23:00she gave birth to Him who is the author of her being. Mary is
- 23:06the wonder of wonders, and nothing in the universe God only accepted, is
- 23:10more glorious than she is. Mary's spotless purity, her sinlessness was first proclaimed
- 23:15by God in Paradise Genesis three point fifteen and afterwards by the archangel Gabriel Luke
- 23:21one twenty eight, God said to the serpent, she shall crush thy head.
- 23:26Had Mary been brought under the dominion of the devil by sin, she
- 23:29could not possibly have been his conqueror. Gabriel saluted Marius full of grace,
- 23:33the dignity of Christ alone demanded that his mother should be entirely free from sin.
- 23:38When God raises anyone to a high post, he fits him for it,
- 23:42And the Son of God, in choosing Mary to be his mother,
- 23:45rendered her, by the gifts of his grace, by the gifts of his
- 23:52grace, fit for this exalted dignity. According to Saint Thomas Aquinas, now
- 23:56we know that no one who built a house for his own use would first
- 24:00put his greatest enemy in possession of it, much less with the Holy Spirit,
- 24:03whose temple Mary was to be, allow the evil one to make her
- 24:07his own. The fathers of the Church and the children of the Church in
- 24:10all ages have given Mary the title of immaculate, both in their writings and
- 24:15their prayers, and in eighteen fifty four the Holy Father declared her immaculate conception
- 24:21to be a dogma of the faith. Mary was therefore free from original sin
- 24:25and actual sin. According to the Council of Trent, she is compared to
- 24:29a lily among thorns and canicals two mirror without a flaw Wisdom seven twenty six.
- 24:37She advanced in perfection rapidly and continuously, like divine Ecclesiastes twenty four or
- 24:42twenty three, that grows higher and higher until it attains the height of the
- 24:47tree to which it clings. She advanced all the more rapidly because she was
- 24:52near to the source of all grace, and was recipient of greater and more
- 24:56abundant graces than other men. Mary was the most holy imperfect all creatures,
- 25:00and her sanctity surpassed that of all other saints, as much as the light
- 25:03of the moon exceeds the brilliance exceeds in brilliance that of the planets. Even
- 25:10in the first moments of her existence, Mary's sanctity was greater than that of
- 25:14the most imminent saints at the close of her life at the close of their
- 25:17life. On account of her exhausted sanctity, she is compared to the Tower
- 25:22of David to Canticles four or four, which rose in Majestic state lines on
- 25:29the highest summit in the mountains of Jerusalem. She is also called the mirror
- 25:36of Justice of all created things, because none ever loved God so intensely as
- 25:41did Mary, or cared so little for the things of this earth. As
- 25:45the action of fire causes iron to glow with heat, so the Holy Spirit
- 25:48inflamed the heart of Mary with charity. On account of her great love,
- 25:52she is called the House of Gold. Mary was adorned with every virtue.
- 25:57She is the mystical rose. For as the rosa passes all their flowers in
- 26:02beauty of its coloring and fragrance of its perfume, so Mary exceeds all saints
- 26:07in the magnitude of her love for God and the sweet odor of her virtues.
- 26:11She is the queen of whom Psalmus speaks, clad in the golden garments
- 26:15of charity, surrounded by a variety of virtues. Thus Suarez declares she was
- 26:22dearer to God than all the other saints together. The body of the Blessed
- 26:26Virgin was assumed gloriously into heaven. It is said that the apostle Thomas,
- 26:30having arrived in Jerusalem too late to assist her at her interment, was desirous
- 26:33to see see her remains in the sepulture, but when it was open,
- 26:38nothing was found there but the grave clothes in which her body had been wrapped.
- 26:42Catherine Emmerich and her Emericacus and her Visions asserts that our blessed lady died
- 26:48forty eight years after the birth of Christ, at the age of sixty four,
- 26:52having gone from Ephesus to Jerusalem to follow again the footsteps of her son
- 26:56and the way of the Cross. She fell mortally sick and died of grief.
- 27:00Since her tomb was in Jerusalem, the feast of her assumption is kept
- 27:03throughout the whole church on the fifteenth of August. No one has ever claimed
- 27:07to possess a relic of her body. We keep relics of saints' bodies.
- 27:12That's very good proof that she was assumed bodily into heaven. Mary shines in
- 27:18heaven with unrivaled splendor. The sun, moon, and stars of our solar
- 27:22system are symbols of Christ, his mother and the saints. Mary is the
- 27:26queen of the angels and queen of all saints. In her, more than
- 27:30in any other creature, we gain a knowledge of the divine attributes. Most
- 27:33especially we see displayed in her glorious exultation the infinite goodness of God, who
- 27:38raises the poor man from the dunghill, that he may set him with the
- 27:41princes and elevate him among the choirs of celestial spirits. Finally, we entertain
- 27:48this great veneration for Mary because her intercession is more powerful with God than that
- 27:52of any other saint. Mary's intercession has immense power with God on earth.
- 27:57Her petitions we're all prevailing with Christ, is that the marriage feast at Gayana.
- 28:03And if Christ granted all to his mother's prayers on earth, how much
- 28:06more will he do so in heaven. When the general Coriolanus could not have
- 28:11prevailed upon the senate and priests of Rome to withdraw his army before the city,
- 28:15he yielded to the entreaties of his mother Virtuuria, although he knew that
- 28:22to do so would cost him his life. How much the more will Christ,
- 28:26the Great Lawgiver listen to the supplications of his mother. If the prayers
- 28:30of the saints his servants have so much power with God what most those of
- 28:34his mother have. Being the prayers of a mother, they are less like
- 28:38petitions than a command. Saint Bernard declares Mary to be omnipotent by means of
- 28:45her intercession. There is nothing that she cannot obtain for us. As at
- 28:49the court of an earthly monarch, he is sure to succeed for whom the
- 28:53Queen interests herself, So at the court of the King of Kings, those
- 28:57from whom marry the Queen of Heaven plead would not be disappointed of their desires.
- 29:03Thus Mary is our hope, because through her intercessions we hope to procure
- 29:07the blessings which our poor prayers cannot obtain. Hence the saints speak of her
- 29:11as the dispenser of graces, for all the favors we receive from Heaven come
- 29:15to us through her hands. God, Saint Peter Damien says, would not
- 29:21become man until Mary had given her consent. In order that we might see
- 29:25that the salvation of mankind rested in her hands. She stood beneath the cross
- 29:30that we might know that without her mediation, no one could be made of
- 29:33partaker in the merits of the blood of Christ. God the Father's sanctions Christ
- 29:37grants, and Mary distributes gifts of heaven to the mankind. Thus Mary is
- 29:42the Mother divine grace. No prayer she proffers or offers is unanswered. Who
- 29:48can doubt, exclaims Saint Bernard, that the son will listen to his mother.
- 29:53Such a son to such a mother. Remember how the Saints declare the
- 29:57Memorari that it is a thing unheard of for anyone to implore Mary's aid,
- 30:03and implore in vain. Even the least and shortest prayer to Mary does not
- 30:07go unrecompense. She rewards the slightest intention with the richest graces. Every time
- 30:12we salute her, she does not failed to return our greeting. She is
- 30:17the Virgin most Clement. There is not a trace of sternness about her.
- 30:21She is all clemency, loving kindness, and gentleness. He would be wrong,
- 30:25indeed, who approached her with trembling. From the time from time immemorial,
- 30:30Christians have been accustomed to have recourse to Mary in times of affliction and
- 30:33distress. In the year sixteen eighty three, when the Turks besieged Vienna,
- 30:38both the beleaguered city and throughout Christendom, the Rosary was recited to implore the
- 30:44aid of the Mother of God, and a signal victory was the result individual.
- 30:49Christians also appear to appeal to Mary for aid when private troubles press heavily
- 30:55upon them. She is called the help of Christians, the comfort of the
- 30:57afflicted, the health, the health of the sick. Christians call upon her
- 31:03in seasons of severe sickness. Is recorded that Saint John Damascene that when the
- 31:08Caliph, enraged with him for having written in defense of the veneration of images,
- 31:14caused his right hand to be struck off, the saint prostrated himself for
- 31:18a statue of our Lady and was immediately healed. Now think about this,
- 31:21Okay, this is the caliph, a Muslim who was at the time.
- 31:27I believe he's the same one who had basically taken over the Greek Orthodox Church
- 31:32and was having Christian images destroyed. Saint John Damascenes wrote about why it's so
- 31:38important to have images of Jesus and the saints, and he had his hand
- 31:44cut off, he prayed to the Blessed Mother and his hand grewbak was miraculously
- 31:48restored. And that's a fact of history that has been recorded that has never
- 31:52been disputed by any one that was there at the time. I mean,
- 31:57it's really amazing in the present day. How numerous are the miraculous cures affected
- 32:05Lords. Again, the atheists and anti Catholics have tried everything they can to
- 32:12disprove the miraculous healings at Lord's, and they can't. I know how many
- 32:19hundreds of thousands of people millions have been healed of uncurable illnesses through the intercession
- 32:24of the Blessed Mother at Lord's. To Mary also is to do the conversion
- 32:30of me sinners who desire to amend their lives, For upon those who invoke
- 32:34her, the light of the Holy Spirit is shed Mary's the morning star,
- 32:37as that planet heralds the sunrise. So devotion to Mary is the forerunner to
- 32:42divine grace, the gracious influence of the Holy Ghost. She is compared to
- 32:47the dawnchanicals six' nine, because as the shades of night vanished before the
- 32:53rising sun, so send aparts from the soul that is devoted to Mary.
- 33:00Oh, and I guess I should address that. You know, Father Sparaga
- 33:02right in the eighteen ninety uses the older names for several books of the Bible.
- 33:07As I've mentioned before, Canticles is now generally more well known as Song
- 33:10of Songs or Songs of Solomon. So still in the Bible, and I
- 33:15think, I mean, it's still in the Protestant and Catholic Bibles, but
- 33:19you probably won't see it named canticles anymore. It actually is in my Bible,
- 33:25so you know that I forgot to mention that earlier. So the month
- 33:31of May is dedicated to her, because nature then awakens to a new life,
- 33:36and devotion to Mary brings fresh life to the soul, dead and sin.
- 33:39Witness the miraculous conversion of the public ciner Mary of Egypt before an image
- 33:45of our lady in the Church of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem. Mary is
- 33:49ever so, Mary is ever desirous to affect our reconciliation with God, far
- 33:53more so than any earthly mother could be. To establish peace between two members
- 33:59of her family who were at enmity with each other. Through her intercession,
- 34:02our Lord's anger is easily appeased. Alexander the Great once said, a single
- 34:07tear from my mother's eye will blot out many death warrants. If a man
- 34:12in a heathen deboot will speak thus of his mother, what may we not
- 34:15expect from the divine son of Mary. She is the refuge of sinners,
- 34:21The Mother of mercy, and from her is from an olive tree, to
- 34:23which she is like in an Ecclesiastes twenty four to nineteen, the softening oil
- 34:29of mercy flows. She is our mediatrics. To her we fly in temptation,
- 34:35as the Jews to the entrance of the Promised Land numbers ten thirty five,
- 34:38and in their wars with the Philistines first Kings fourteen carried within the ark
- 34:44of the Lord to ensure victory. So through Mary, the ark of the
- 34:46Covenant of the New Testament, we are enabled to conquer our spiritual foes.
- 34:51As the Star guides the marrin are tossing on the storming sea to a safe
- 34:55haven, so Mary guides us over the tempestuous of life to the celestial port.
- 35:01She is compared in Holy Scripture to a plane tree in the streets Ecclesiastes
- 35:08fourteen nineteen, because as the tree protects the way, Because as the tree
- 35:15protects the wayfarer, fairer the wayfarer from the sun and rain, So Mary
- 35:21defends those who place themselves under her care from the assaults of the devil to
- 35:25the enemy of mankind. She is terrible as an army set in Arraychanicals against
- 35:34Songs six' three. Various titles are given to Mary to indicate the circumstances
- 35:39in which we may invoke her aid and trust her sucker, such as Mother
- 35:45perfetual sucker that means compassion and help, basically, Mother, good counsel,
- 35:51Mother of dolars. That means sorrows. That's Latin for sorrows. I think
- 35:57suckers. I don't think that's but anyway, not a word we use much
- 36:01anymore. S U c co r. Devotion to the Mother of God is
- 36:06an excellent means of attaining sanctity here below, an eternal happiness hereafter. No
- 36:12one can fail. No one can fail to observe the filial affection devotion which
- 36:16all saints have displayed toward the Mother of God, and the signal success with
- 36:23which God has rewarded this devotion on their part. Among the most prominent of
- 36:28these was Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, and in later times Saint alfonsis Leguri,
- 36:31the author of the Glories of Mary. Mary is the Gate of Heaven,
- 36:37a latter connecting Heaven and Earth by which the Lord of Heaven came down to
- 36:39us, and by which we may accede up to God. Santa Fonsis declares
- 36:45it to be his persuasion that hell cannot boast of containing one single soul who
- 36:50ever had a true and heartfelt devotion to Mary. Saint Bernard asserts that those
- 36:54who honor her daily will assuredly be saved. Saint Francis boards I'll always feared
- 37:00for the salvation of that soul which had little or no devotion to the Mother
- 37:04of God. See, y'all, I am gonna wrap this one up here.
- 37:08Sorry, I've been a little tongue tied in this one. I'm not
- 37:10sure what's going on, maybe allergies making my mouth dry or something, but
- 37:15I'll try to clean it up as best I can in the editing, and
- 37:19I hope you will enjoy it and remember to pray your Rosary daily along with
- 37:25that, or if you forget or don't have time or whatever, try to
- 37:30pray the Angelus that only takes a few minutes, seven sorrows or seven dollars,
- 37:36or the Blessed Virgin Mary, another very brief prayer that you can do.
- 37:39And of course the Memorai is really good. So of course, here
- 37:45in America we're also doing a nine month novena to the Blessed Virgin Mary for
- 37:51the conversion of our nation, which is so very evil. So y'all,
- 37:55if you haven't joined in that novena yet, please do so. It was
- 38:00Cardinal Dolan that's doing that. You know. Prayers to Mary never go unanswered.
- 38:07She takes him directly to Jesus, and Jesus does exactly what his mother
- 38:12tells him to do, as in the wedding feast to Cana. So,
- 38:17in the words of Saint Padre Pio, pray, hope and don't worry,
- 38:21and I will talk to y'all next time.
