- 0:01Speaker 1: Wave.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:14Speaker 2: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:16Speaker 2: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:20Speaker 2: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:22Speaker 2: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:25Speaker 2: a hater. We're going to talk about the collision course
- 0:28Speaker 2: situation that we got going in the NBA playoffs a
- 0:31Speaker 2: little bit later. But first, we're going to start off
- 0:34Speaker 2: in our terribly negative society by being incredibly negative about
- 0:39Speaker 2: two of the top maybe 25 players in the history
- 0:43Speaker 2: of the NBA. Now, yes. This is the thing about
- 0:47Speaker 2: the first round of the playoffs, right? It's very difficult
- 0:51Speaker 2: to truly lead with what excites you in the first
- 0:55Speaker 2: round of the playoffs because what excites you is either A,
- 0:59Speaker 2: something that you kind of knew was going to happen,
- 1:03Speaker 2: or B, someone exceeding expectations or some team exceeding expectations,
- 1:10Speaker 2: which requires almost by definition that somebody on the other
- 1:15Speaker 2: side is coming up short on expectations right that's that's
- 1:20Speaker 2: that's that's basically how this goes that's what we've got
- 1:24Speaker 2: however we wound up with two somewhat parallel situations which
- 1:28Speaker 2: is what's going on with the Rockets and what is
- 1:31Speaker 2: going on with Denver I think they are somewhat similar
- 1:36Speaker 2: though there are some you know some notable differences between
- 1:40Speaker 2: the two circumstances but I want to start with what's
- 1:45Speaker 2: happened with the Rockets because it is... Y'all are always
- 1:52Speaker 2: ready to bring it to Kevin Durant. I think that's
- 1:55Speaker 2: the conclusion that I've reached about this is that it
- 1:57Speaker 2: is very interesting that he has.
- 2:01Speaker 2: His career has gotten him to a place where... I
- 2:08Speaker 2: would not say that he is a player that people hate.
- 2:13Speaker 2: outside of Oklahoma City. I just wouldn't say it. I
- 2:15Speaker 2: don't think that he engenders that. I think he engenders
- 2:20Speaker 2: a measure of confusion from people around him because he confuses.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I understand that you're not supposed to answer your question
- 2:33Speaker 2: with the question in that way, but he confuses us.
- 2:37Speaker 3: I get that.
- 2:38Speaker 2: But What's happened here in Houston, right? I guess this
- 2:41Speaker 2: is the question. Did the, did the antics of get
- 2:44Speaker 2: off Mike Dickerson really get Durant to like a point
- 2:47Speaker 2: of no return?
- 2:49Speaker 3: It's starting to seem that way. And, and it's tough
- 2:52Speaker 3: because he has the devastating injury off the court three
- 2:57Speaker 3: days before game one, right? Where reportedly he knocks knees
- 2:59Speaker 3: with the player.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:01Speaker 3: And now, and so now he's not, he doesn't play
- 3:03Speaker 3: game one game two. He's out there, but he's, a
- 3:06Speaker 3: shell of himself.
- 3:07Speaker 2: He couldn't move.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Couldn't move. Gets exploited in the second half of that game.
- 3:12Speaker 3: And then he doesn't play game three and game four.
- 3:14Speaker 3: And it kind of leads into every, if you have
- 3:19Speaker 3: questions about Kevin Durant, you can find the answers you're
- 3:21Speaker 3: looking for pretty easily.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I mean, I just want you to think about this
- 3:24Speaker 2: for a second. Anthony Edwards, who we'll talk about a
- 3:27Speaker 2: little bit later. Anthony Edwards was diagnosed with a bone
- 3:31Speaker 2: bruise after what happened to him in game four. of Nuggets, Timbers, Wolves.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It looked like he had torn his ACL. Like that
- 3:40Speaker 2: was the type of reaction that I had from seeing
- 3:42Speaker 2: that was like, damn, he's going to be out. He
- 3:44Speaker 2: did not have any ligament damage, but he is going
- 3:47Speaker 2: to be out for weeks in the playoffs. That is
- 3:50Speaker 2: the same injury that Kevin Durant suffered before game one.
- 3:54Speaker 2: He played game two. And since he wasn't on the
- 3:58Speaker 2: bench for game three, people were loudly accusing him of quitting.
- 4:04Speaker 2: When he played with a bone bruise in game two,
- 4:08Speaker 2: if he did quit in game three, it was after
- 4:12Speaker 2: playing through it in game two, which kind of would
- 4:16Speaker 2: mean that game three could not be quitting. The argument
- 4:19Speaker 2: was it was because he was not sitting on the
- 4:22Speaker 2: bench supporting his teammates. And you sound like an old
- 4:25Speaker 2: white man right now.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Right.
- 4:27Speaker 2: No matter who you are, think about who you sound
- 4:30Speaker 2: like at that moment with that one. No, it's just
- 4:34Speaker 2: that it's reached a point where people are so down
- 4:38Speaker 2: on him that we have come to the assumption of
- 4:42Speaker 2: worst case scenario. Everything get off by Dickerson said about
- 4:45Speaker 2: this team appears to be true.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Like in the grand scheme, this team just isn't that good.
- 4:52Speaker 2: That coach just isn't that good. That meltdown that they
- 4:57Speaker 2: had at the end of game three was a fireable
- 5:01Speaker 2: offense for the coach. There was no way they were
- 5:04Speaker 2: up six with 30 seconds left to LeBron. And now
- 5:09Speaker 2: LeBron is some dudes. That's who this is, right? LeBron
- 5:14Speaker 2: and some dudes. Like, let me tell you something. They
- 5:18Speaker 2: should technically still be in this series.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I mean, they were favored in all four games going in,
- 5:24Speaker 3: three of those without Kevin Durant.
- 5:26Speaker 5: Right.
- 5:26Speaker 2: And look, here's the thing. Say what you want about this.
- 5:30Speaker 2: The order of the games matters, right, in terms of succession.
- 5:33Speaker 2: But it's 3-1. And they have the ostensible home court advantage.
- 5:39Speaker 2: In theory. They should be able to come out here. Well,
- 5:43Speaker 2: they don't have home court advantage.
- 5:44Speaker 3: That's right.
- 5:44Speaker 2: They played the first two in L.A. But they should
- 5:46Speaker 2: be able to come out here and win game five.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I mean, they just won this last game by a
- 5:49Speaker 2: pretty big number. I think that it was a certain
- 5:52Speaker 2: measure of predictability to them winning this game. But it's
- 5:55Speaker 2: not over. This series is not over for them. It
- 6:01Speaker 2: feels unlikely. But it doesn't feel over. You're down Kevin Durant.
- 6:05Speaker 2: They're down Luka Doncic and Austin Reeves. They have played
- 6:09Speaker 2: over their heads up until this point. If your coach
- 6:12Speaker 2: is worth half a damn, you guys should maybe have
- 6:15Speaker 2: a chance. And maybe, look, maybe Ime telling them they
- 6:17Speaker 2: needed to grow up. Maybe that had some sort of
- 6:19Speaker 2: effect after game three, right? Now, Ime ignoring the fact
- 6:23Speaker 2: that part of his job is helping them to grow up. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
- 6:27Speaker 2: That's a little bit weird here. Okay there. But again, I'm,
- 6:31Speaker 2: The last, I guess we'll call it seven years of
- 6:34Speaker 2: Kevin Durant's career. And I'm saying seven years on the
- 6:38Speaker 2: calendar right now, which allows me to say that in
- 6:40Speaker 2: that discussion, let us not forget, in 2019, that was
- 6:44Speaker 2: the year that in the playoffs, he had the I'm
- 6:48Speaker 2: Kevin Durant press availability sound, all-time great sound. And people
- 6:53Speaker 2: like Patrick Beverly was shutting him down. And he just
- 6:57Speaker 2: went super saiyan on them. It was unreal how good
- 7:01Speaker 2: he was until the calf strain. And then he comes
- 7:04Speaker 2: back from the calf strain and he tears his Achilles.
- 7:08Speaker 2: He made the mistake of hitching his wagon to Kyrie Irving.
- 7:10Speaker 2: But think about this. If there is no pandemic, how
- 7:13Speaker 2: much differently do we look at him? Do we look
- 7:15Speaker 2: at that whole experiment? Do we look at James Harden, right?
- 7:18Speaker 2: Like all those guys may come out to be winners,
- 7:20Speaker 2: except there was a pandemic. and there was a vaccine requirement,
- 7:24Speaker 2: and it was a dude who was acting crazy. And
- 7:28Speaker 2: all that tore down that whole situation. He goes to Phoenix.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Whatever did or didn't work in Phoenix is not Kevin
- 7:35Speaker 2: Durant's fault. He winds up in Houston. I think the
- 7:40Speaker 2: mistake they made in Houston is everybody's saying he's not
- 7:43Speaker 2: the franchise player. Get off my Dickerson, you'll notice, consistently
- 7:46Speaker 2: referred to Shingun as the franchise player. I can't tell
- 7:49Speaker 2: if Durant really didn't want to be the franchise player
- 7:52Speaker 2: or get off my Dickerson resents the idea that Shingun,
- 7:57Speaker 2: because Shingun is not a franchise player. You remember when
- 7:59Speaker 2: they were talking about trading him maybe for Giannis, they're like,
- 8:02Speaker 2: oh no, you'd have to give up Shingun. Oh my God,
- 8:04Speaker 2: we'll have to give up Shingun. Or Amin Thompson. You
- 8:08Speaker 2: remember last year when they were talking about, yeah, yeah,
- 8:10Speaker 2: but you can't give up Amin Thompson. The fuck you can't.
- 8:13Speaker 2: He can't shoot. What are we talking about here? People
- 8:17Speaker 2: were talking to me about Amin Thompson like he was
- 8:20Speaker 2: going to turn into shade.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Right?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Look, he's really athletic. He's really talented. He's really fun
- 8:26Speaker 2: to watch in person. He can't shoot. Oh, hold on, guys.
- 8:32Speaker 2: You can't give up Ahmed Thompson. That would be crazy.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I mean, you're trying to give up Ahmed Thompson for
- 8:37Speaker 2: one of the 30 greatest players of all time? Hey, hey, hey, hey, guys.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I don't know about this one.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Might be a little too rich for my blood.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Yeah, what are you talking about? Like, all those things
- 8:46Speaker 2: have to seem crazy right now to people, don't they?
- 8:48Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Like, all those things that were said at that time
- 8:51Speaker 2: about why you can't give up these guys and get Giannis,
- 8:53Speaker 2: they have the same preposterous, and none of that has
- 8:55Speaker 2: to do with Kevin Durant. None of it at all
- 8:58Speaker 2: has to do with Kevin Durant. But the rest of
- 9:01Speaker 2: them cats got an answer for how sorry they been. Oh,
- 9:04Speaker 2: the other thing too, when they asked Ahmed Thompson where
- 9:05Speaker 2: Durant was coming from on his rehab and he didn't know.
- 9:08Speaker 2: And then that became a testament to Kevin Durant and
- 9:11Speaker 2: his relationship with the rest of the team. Hey man,
- 9:13Speaker 2: they busy over there. Like I do get the feeling
- 9:16Speaker 2: that these guys don't hang out, but it wasn't like,
- 9:20Speaker 2: it wasn't like McMiniman asked everybody and they were like, man,
- 9:22Speaker 2: we didn't see Kevin Durant since last week. No man,
- 9:25Speaker 2: they ain't know. How's his knee feel? I don't know,
- 9:28Speaker 2: ask him.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Right?
- 9:30Speaker 2: Like, we're all just looking for a reason to come.
- 9:34Speaker 2: It's the craziest thing. Look, Kevin Durant has given us
- 9:37Speaker 2: no reason to think that if he could play, he
- 9:38Speaker 2: would not play. In fact, that was the point that
- 9:41Speaker 2: people made sure to make around game one, is that
- 9:43Speaker 2: he has a rep for play. He played 78 games
- 9:46Speaker 2: this year. Right? I have no reason to think that
- 9:51Speaker 2: he quit, because the truth is, Get Off My Dickerson
- 9:54Speaker 2: has thought this team was no good from way back.
- 9:58Speaker 2: If Get Off My Dickerson and Kevin Durant agree that
- 10:01Speaker 2: this team was no good, then Kevin Durant wouldn't have
- 10:03Speaker 2: played 78 games. He'd have quit a long time ago, right?
- 10:09Speaker 2: So we all doubt on him and we all doubt
- 10:12Speaker 2: on Jokic, except that one makes a lot more sense.
- 10:16Speaker 2: a lot more sense. The Jokic career is going to
- 10:19Speaker 2: be interesting. I saw somebody make the point online that
- 10:24Speaker 2: Jokic will go down or perhaps will go down as
- 10:29Speaker 2: the only three-time MVP who has not won multiple NBA championships, right?
- 10:37Speaker 2: And so I can do this off the top of
- 10:40Speaker 2: my head, I believe. Fingers crossed. Oh, except for Moses Malone.
- 10:46Speaker 2: He's on that list. But the others are Bill Russell,
- 10:51Speaker 2: Will Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James.
- 11:02Speaker 2: That feels like the list, okay? Kareem Abdul-Jabbar absolutely would
- 11:08Speaker 2: have gone down on this list. of three-time MVPs with
- 11:12Speaker 2: only one championship. If Magic Johnson, another guy on this list,
- 11:18Speaker 2: had not landed in his lap, okay? Like, that did happen.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Moses Malone, and this is where it gets interesting, Moses
- 11:28Speaker 2: Malone and Kareem, who would have been on that list
- 11:30Speaker 2: without Magic, have something very much so interesting in common
- 11:32Speaker 2: with Jokic, which is this is not a dynasty era,
- 11:36Speaker 2: nor were the 1970s. Okay, like you go look at it,
- 11:42Speaker 2: that run through the 1970s, you're not getting repeat champions.
- 11:46Speaker 2: It wasn't like somebody else was rattling off three championships
- 11:49Speaker 2: during that same run. That wasn't how it went. Malone
- 11:54Speaker 2: won MVP in 79, 81, a year where the Rockets
- 11:57Speaker 2: finished under 500. They got to the finals, but they
- 12:01Speaker 2: finished under 500 and Moses Malone still won MVP.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I didn't realize that that's nuts.
- 12:07Speaker 2: No, incorrect. I'm sorry. Malone won MVP in 82, I
- 12:12Speaker 2: want to say. But yeah, in 81, they went to
- 12:15Speaker 2: the finals after finishing under 500. That was the way
- 12:18Speaker 2: that that played. But you understand what I'm saying here.
- 12:20Speaker 2: And by the way, and then for Moses to get
- 12:22Speaker 2: that championship, he had to go play for the Sixers,
- 12:27Speaker 2: who in 81, Doc won the MVP, who had gone
- 12:31Speaker 2: to the NBA finals the year before. And two years
- 12:33Speaker 2: before that, that championship they won in 83 was their
- 12:35Speaker 2: third time to the finals in four years. Just saying,
- 12:38Speaker 2: it's interesting timing. But none of that changes the fact
- 12:41Speaker 2: that the Timberwolves have been giving it to them boys
- 12:44Speaker 2: and they give it to them every time they see them.
- 12:47Speaker 2: It feels like every game that I watch with Minnesota
- 12:51Speaker 2: and Denver starts off the same. Denver gets off to
- 12:54Speaker 2: a hot start. Looks like they're going to put Minnesota away.
- 12:57Speaker 2: The next thing you know, it's tied at halftime, right? Now,
- 13:00Speaker 2: what was different this time with game four is you're
- 13:03Speaker 2: getting toward halftime. It's what it is. Homie White Dante
- 13:07Speaker 2: is torn his Achilles. We think Anthony Edwards is blowing
- 13:11Speaker 2: out his knee. The Nuggets are up at halftime, as
- 13:15Speaker 2: I recall. Then Ryan, this is where it gets weird
- 13:21Speaker 2: for your boy. I don't know if y'all saw this.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I think we're going to talk about it a little later.
- 13:26Speaker 2: But they had it. They was acting like somebody shot
- 13:29Speaker 2: up the White House Correspondents Dinner. Yep. And so in
- 13:34Speaker 2: the middle of the game, They went to the press conference,
- 13:37Speaker 2: and they was like, hey, you can go watch the
- 13:40Speaker 2: rest of the game on ESPN if you would like.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And I'm like, I'm going to be a good American.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Let me find out what's going on. But then that
- 13:52Speaker 2: shit was taking too long, man, and they wasn't even
- 13:54Speaker 2: giving me none of the answers to the questions I
- 13:57Speaker 2: really wanted to get to the bottom of, right? Next
- 14:01Speaker 2: thing I know, the Nuggets are getting smoked. They are
- 14:06Speaker 2: running them out of the building at that point. And
- 14:09Speaker 2: the thing with the Nuggets has been historically, at least
- 14:13Speaker 2: during this Jokic era, they win the Jokic minutes. It's
- 14:17Speaker 2: just about whether or not they can hold it down otherwise.
- 14:19Speaker 2: They were getting destroyed in the Jokic minutes. By the way,
- 14:23Speaker 2: in this in a game where Aaron Gordon's out there
- 14:26Speaker 2: playing with a calf strain, which we all know, we
- 14:28Speaker 2: just talked about it with Duran a second ago. What
- 14:31Speaker 2: are you doing? Like, what is this? And they look
- 14:34Speaker 2: so completely discombobulated and like not ready for primetime in
- 14:39Speaker 2: this game that they absolutely have to win. And then
- 14:41Speaker 2: at the end of the game, Jaden McDaniels puts up
- 14:44Speaker 2: one of them late shots while the game is out
- 14:47Speaker 2: of hand and Jokic decides he's going to be the
- 14:50Speaker 2: one to go enforce the unwritten rules, right? On one level,
- 14:54Speaker 2: I recognize that I've had to learn this, whether it
- 14:56Speaker 2: be baseball or anything else. They got rules in that game.
- 15:00Speaker 2: They all know what the rules are. and McDaniels was
- 15:03Speaker 2: in violation of the rules that they have set. We
- 15:06Speaker 2: could think these rules are silly or whatever it is, right?
- 15:08Speaker 3: But they clearly don't.
- 15:09Speaker 2: They clearly don't. They have a way. Did you see
- 15:11Speaker 2: where they asked Mike Conley about it? Where if Mike
- 15:13Speaker 2: Conley said he wanted to put his hands on top
- 15:15Speaker 2: of his head after he realized he had thrown the
- 15:16Speaker 2: ball to Jaden McDaniels at that point, because McDaniels is
- 15:18Speaker 2: the one that hates them dudes the most.
- 15:20Speaker 3: No, but I did check. So even Conley knew.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yeah, come on, man. They have a way that they
- 15:28Speaker 2: handle things over there, and that is a violation of
- 15:30Speaker 2: that norm. All right. And you can say, well, you
- 15:33Speaker 2: don't run up on somebody as stupid. Hey, their their world.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Somebody runs up on you. I remember the time I
- 15:39Speaker 2: saw PJ Tucker run up on somebody under those circumstances.
- 15:42Speaker 2: But you know what PJ Tucker is or more accurately
- 15:44Speaker 2: what PJ Tucker is not three time MVP. Right. Jokic
- 15:50Speaker 2: is not supposed to be the guy that goes and
- 15:53Speaker 2: gets in Buddy's face about that.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Somebody else's job is supposed to be to do that. Instead,
- 16:00Speaker 2: it was Jokic. And what happened? He got pumped. That's
- 16:04Speaker 2: what happened. Ran up on that dude. That dude grabbed
- 16:07Speaker 2: him by the shirt. You wasn't ready to do nothing.
- 16:10Speaker 2: And that dude knew that you wasn't ready to do nothing.
- 16:13Speaker 2: The reason you went down there is because you was
- 16:15Speaker 2: on your sore loser shit, which we have seen you
- 16:18Speaker 2: be on at various points in your career. And you
- 16:21Speaker 2: wound up in that place where everybody's looking at you
- 16:25Speaker 2: funny because Rudy Gobert. Rudy Gobert has been asking for
- 16:31Speaker 2: the ball to go at you. Rudy Gobert, by the way,
- 16:36Speaker 2: shot a three.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:40Speaker 2: You want to talk about somebody who just can't make
- 16:43Speaker 2: peace with being who he is. You just can't be
- 16:46Speaker 2: a Hall of Famer, huh?
- 16:48Speaker 1: Right?
- 16:48Speaker 2: Like, you just can't be a Hall of Fame defensive player.
- 16:50Speaker 2: You just can't do that. Oh, okay. But you went
- 16:53Speaker 2: down there and that was embarrassing. Like, you guys are champions.
- 16:57Speaker 2: And I know that this is that year again where
- 16:59Speaker 2: the champion thing, this is just kind of going to
- 17:01Speaker 2: hop to hop, hop, right? And this Nuggets team has
- 17:04Speaker 2: this weird thing with what their window was because their
- 17:06Speaker 2: window truly opened when they traded for Aaron Gordon and
- 17:08Speaker 2: then right after Jamal Murray tore his ACL and they
- 17:11Speaker 2: lost two years of their window on the front end.
- 17:13Speaker 2: And then the third year when Murray comes back, they
- 17:15Speaker 2: win it. But now, like, it's over. They're getting handled
- 17:19Speaker 2: by Anthony Edwards and some guys. Or in the second half,
- 17:23Speaker 2: they got handled by the guys. Just Julius Randle and
- 17:28Speaker 2: Rudy Gobert. They are led by men whom we ridicule.
- 17:33Speaker 2: And they smoked them in the second half of that game.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Can't believe it. Can't believe it.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Right?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Also, coach. Think you guys have a coach problem. because
- 17:45Speaker 2: we've watched this team play for years. Guys don't just
- 17:48Speaker 2: turn soft, right? Like, how does that happen? Like, how
- 17:52Speaker 2: does this team suddenly look soft? It wasn't like Michael
- 17:55Speaker 2: Porter Jr. was the enforcer. Like, you guys turn soft.
- 18:01Speaker 2: That's what, it was so embarrassing. But here's the thing.
- 18:08Speaker 2: They should still win this series. They can still win
- 18:13Speaker 2: this series. You're going to have three games against the
- 18:16Speaker 2: Minnesota Timberwolves without Anthony Edwards. The next game is at
- 18:20Speaker 2: your place at altitude. My history of watching the NBA
- 18:23Speaker 2: indicates game five of this series should be a Nuggets
- 18:26Speaker 2: romp if they are anything, right? This is where the
- 18:30Speaker 2: champions get up. They are cornered. They have resolve and
- 18:33Speaker 2: they smoke them in this game. That's what this is
- 18:37Speaker 2: supposed to be when you have home court and you're
- 18:39Speaker 2: those guys. You're supposed to smoke them. This is supposed
- 18:41Speaker 2: to come down to what happens when you go back
- 18:43Speaker 2: to Minnesota in game six and all of this is
- 18:46Speaker 2: going to be on their shoulders and you have to
- 18:49Speaker 2: decide whether or not you're going to let Ayo Dosunmu
- 18:54Speaker 2: score 43 points. 43 points on you. What? Who? Are
- 19:09Speaker 2: you fucking serious? 43 points on you. Are you guys
- 19:15Speaker 2: really going to let that happen? Because the Minnesota Temple
- 19:19Speaker 2: Wolves are in a circumstance where in order for them
- 19:22Speaker 2: to win, they're going to need Ayo Dosunmu to get
- 19:28Speaker 2: them there. That's what's going to be required. He's going
- 19:32Speaker 2: to have to not just take the Anthony Edwards role,
- 19:35Speaker 2: play better than one would expect Anthony Edwards to play
- 19:38Speaker 2: in the Anthony Edwards role. And yeah, I would fire
- 19:42Speaker 2: the coach if my one-time NBA champions with the best
- 19:46Speaker 2: player in the NBA loses this one. And I would
- 19:49Speaker 2: look at that best player in the NBA and be like,
- 19:52Speaker 2: so what you got? Because this is on you, right?
- 19:57Speaker 2: We have seen a lot of Denver Nuggets basketball over
- 19:58Speaker 2: the years where we have been able to safely say, well,
- 20:00Speaker 2: it just wasn't enough around him, especially in those years
- 20:03Speaker 2: when Murray was down, right? Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, buddy.
- 20:06Speaker 2: That's not what's going on here. What's going on here
- 20:08Speaker 2: is that Nikola Jokic has been outplayed in long stretches
- 20:14Speaker 2: by the most ridiculed future Hall of Famer in the
- 20:19Speaker 2: history of basketball. In the words of the great Billy
- 20:24Speaker 2: from Purple Rain, you better kick ass or else. Speaking
- 20:34Speaker 2: of kicking ass, Ryan, I feel like we need to
- 20:36Speaker 2: give kind of a perfunctory shout out to the people
- 20:40Speaker 2: in series that we don't care about. That's right. I'm
- 20:42Speaker 2: talking about you, Cleveland and Toronto.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean... I mean, it's happening.
- 20:48Speaker 2: It's an even series. That was a pretty good game.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Pretty good game at the end.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I watched that. I enjoyed it.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Pretty good game at the end. We got a vintage
- 20:55Speaker 3: playoff James Harden, and that is not a compliment.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but hey, hey, maybe he got it out the
- 21:00Speaker 2: way early.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Maybe, boy.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Or history tell us the next two games will be worse.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Shout out to my buddy Nick. Ain't nobody keeping count
- 21:09Speaker 2: of anybody else's shortcomings and miseries that Nick Wright is
- 21:13Speaker 2: on James Harden. He was like, that is the 44th.
- 21:15Speaker 2: And this is a crazy stat. Nobody's better at keeping
- 21:18Speaker 2: these to dick. This is James Harden's 44th playoff game
- 21:23Speaker 2: where he had as many, if not more, turnovers than
- 21:27Speaker 2: field goals made.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Listen to this. So he came back with another one.
- 21:33Speaker 3: James Harden playoff games with five or less field goals, 77,
- 21:37Speaker 3: four or less field goals, 55, three or less field goals, 35.
- 21:42Speaker 3: two or less field goals, 22.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Those are crazy numbers, man. Those are insane numbers to
- 21:52Speaker 2: throw out here. But yeah, that series will be over
- 21:55Speaker 2: and they'll play against the winner of Detroit and Orlando.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Another series that one might argue deserves a little bit
- 22:04Speaker 2: more of my attention, but eh.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Do they have Amazon Prime 2? Because it would be
- 22:09Speaker 3: on it.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Nba nba nba prime tv yeah right like they they
- 22:17Speaker 5: they need to come up with a lower tier so
- 22:19Speaker 5: that we know who truly is.
- 22:21Speaker 2: In the um the nba tv slot yeah because look
- 22:25Speaker 2: the truth is i did not think look i did
- 22:27Speaker 2: not realize that amazon prime was going to have whole
- 22:31Speaker 2: nights of playoff games yeah i do think yeah i
- 22:35Speaker 2: do think that's a big shift for the average viewer
- 22:37Speaker 2: yes i think that is like oh Now, also, that's
- 22:41Speaker 2: always wild to me because everybody I know has Amazon Prime.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Yes.
- 22:47Speaker 2: But clearly not everybody has Amazon Prime.
- 22:50Speaker 3: I think people do not understand. I think more people
- 22:53Speaker 3: have Amazon Prime, like the service.
- 22:55Speaker 2: They don't know that.
- 22:56Speaker 3: But didn't have Netflix, but do not realize Amazon Prime
- 22:59Speaker 3: is where you watch the games.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I actually have a friend who worked for them for
- 23:03Speaker 2: a little while and said that at that time, that
- 23:05Speaker 2: was their biggest problem, is that people simply did not
- 23:08Speaker 2: know that they actually had this. That's a big part
- 23:13Speaker 2: of this for Amazon. You think about this. I don't
- 23:16Speaker 2: know anybody that has Amazon Prime Video as a standalone. Right.
- 23:20Speaker 1: You know?
- 23:21Speaker 2: Like, nah, nah, nah. You can keep all that free shipping.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I just want to watch these movies.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Right? I don't even know if that's an option. Right?
- 23:30Speaker 3: Neither do I.
- 23:31Speaker 2: But anyway, Detroit and Orlando, that's where they at. And
- 23:35Speaker 2: the Detroit people seem very, very nervous that Wendell Carter Jr. is...
- 23:40Speaker 2: outplaying Jalen Durant.
- 23:43Speaker 3: I would be nervous to talk about a team that
- 23:44Speaker 3: seems like they all didn't like each other now is,
- 23:46Speaker 3: you know, playing in a playoff, playing well in a
- 23:48Speaker 3: playoff series in Orlando.
- 23:50Speaker 5: Right.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Also, I want to throw this out here about Detroit.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Cleveland was pretty good when they fired JB Biggerstaff. Just
- 23:56Speaker 2: keep an eye on, not saying that's going to, anything's
- 23:57Speaker 2: going to happen this year, but winning, we've been at
- 24:01Speaker 2: a place where winning has not saved that man's job before. Right.
- 24:03Speaker 2: You know, like, I don't know what is or isn't
- 24:05Speaker 2: going on there. But also, hey, man, maybe this will
- 24:08Speaker 2: be like, I think it was 2003 where the Magic
- 24:10Speaker 2: went up 3-1 on the Pistons and Tracy McGrady said
- 24:13Speaker 2: it felt good to get out of the first round
- 24:15Speaker 2: and then didn't.
- 24:16Speaker 3: They didn't.
- 24:16Speaker 2: They did not. So maybe that's on there. But anyway,
- 24:18Speaker 2: that's another series that's happening. Boston and Philadelphia. Glad Philadelphia
- 24:22Speaker 2: got that win. Jason Tatum, surgeon. Hey, man, I can't
- 24:27Speaker 2: imagine all the fun. Every time somebody tear an ACL,
- 24:29Speaker 2: they need to call that motherfucker, man.
- 24:30Speaker 3: I can't believe, like, That's what White Dante did. Followed
- 24:35Speaker 3: the exact Jason Tatum protocol.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Like that guy, he got a beeper like the doctors
- 24:39Speaker 2: used to. Anytime at night, they're like, hey man, we're
- 24:42Speaker 2: flying somebody in, baby. They coming to you. Can you
- 24:44Speaker 2: imagine the prices he could charge? Price of the brick
- 24:47Speaker 2: going up, yo. Thud and mo.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Tatum's averaging 25, 9, and 8 on 63% true shooting.
- 24:55Speaker 3: And he tore his Achilles 11 months ago.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yeah, look, we're going to see what happens with him
- 24:59Speaker 2: guarding people, like the farther this goes, but I am
- 25:02Speaker 2: I am stunned. Cause you know, we talked about this
- 25:04Speaker 2: when he came back and I was like, Hey man,
- 25:06Speaker 2: you can't give him to Joe. If Joe can't play
- 25:08Speaker 2: him like Joe play back. And they, they, they clearly
- 25:11Speaker 2: have there. They are, they are walking the Sixers.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Out of there.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Joel and B came back. That was nice of him
- 25:17Speaker 2: to do. Um, they, okay. Um, anyway, the Knicks Hawks,
- 25:21Speaker 2: we'll see how that goes. Um, I was talking to
- 25:24Speaker 2: a friend of mine. Um, I said to something because, uh,
- 25:27Speaker 2: the Hawks were playing a game. We had a story
- 25:29Speaker 2: about that, but anyway, um, She asked me how the
- 25:33Speaker 2: game was, and I said, well, it's the Knicks and
- 25:36Speaker 2: the Hawks, so nobody really wants to win. That was
- 25:41Speaker 2: how game three felt of that series. It's the Knicks
- 25:43Speaker 2: and the Hawks. Nobody really wants to get this done.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Oklahoma City and Phoenix, you know, like Phoenix. I guess, look,
- 25:54Speaker 2: Phoenix ain't got no picks, so you might as well
- 25:55Speaker 2: go to the playoffs. Good for them. Good for them.
- 25:58Speaker 2: It seems very clear to me who the three best
- 25:59Speaker 2: teams in this postseason have been so far. It is
- 26:02Speaker 2: the Oklahoma City Thunder. It is the Boston Celtics. And
- 26:07Speaker 2: it is the San Antonio Spurs. Shout out to Big Vic.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Big Vic came back on Sunday. I told you the
- 26:12Speaker 2: whole thing about playing with a concussion is not about
- 26:15Speaker 2: whether or not you can play with a concussion. It
- 26:17Speaker 2: is the acute risks that come from having another concussion.
- 26:20Speaker 2: And I will note, Victor seems to be implying that
- 26:23Speaker 2: he did not have a concussion.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Yes.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Like there's something to be said for that, that being
- 26:29Speaker 2: knocked unconscious is not the same thing necessarily as having
- 26:33Speaker 2: a concussion. You can be knocked unconscious and not have
- 26:36Speaker 2: a concussion. You can have a concussion and not be
- 26:39Speaker 2: knocked unconscious. That seems to be the thing, that football
- 26:42Speaker 2: has us on everything. Oh, it's got to be a concussion.
- 26:45Speaker 2: He hit his chin. He didn't hit his head. Maybe
- 26:47Speaker 2: there was a brain, whatever it was. The way that
- 26:50Speaker 2: he was talking about the protocol after the game implies
- 26:53Speaker 2: that this guy, who may be the smartest dude in
- 26:55Speaker 2: the NBA, was like, this shit is stupid. Why can't
- 26:58Speaker 2: I play? And as I said before... No one's head
- 27:02Speaker 2: is safer from injury than his.
- 27:04Speaker 3: For sure.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Like, they're not going to hit him in the head again, right? Right. Dude,
- 27:07Speaker 2: he's back out there against the Trailblazers, and they just
- 27:12Speaker 2: don't belong in the same place. They don't. This is not.
- 27:15Speaker 3: They were down 17 at half and one by more
- 27:18Speaker 3: than 20.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Ran away from him. Just flat out ran away from him.
- 27:21Speaker 2: They got dudes, man. Castle is a dude. Devin Vassell,
- 27:25Speaker 2: good enough. He's making all that money, by the way.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Remember when he signed that extension for like 30-something million dollars,
- 27:30Speaker 2: but you didn't know what he looked like?
- 27:32Speaker 1: Yep.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Yeah. The French dude that looked like Franklin Saint-Daddy on Snowfall,
- 27:38Speaker 2: Shan Pipple? How you say Shan Pipple's name? Is it Shan-Pack-San-Pack-
- 27:47Speaker 2: You know, the French dude. The French dude. Like, did
- 27:51Speaker 2: they give him Jessica Victor one and Sham Pitbull? I
- 27:53Speaker 2: know there's another Sham Pitbull on another team.
- 27:57Speaker 3: I guess he just needed a French friend.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I forget how you, like, I've been watching their games,
- 28:02Speaker 2: but all them other dudes don't really matter that much
- 28:04Speaker 2: to me. Let me go to a basketball reference so
- 28:06Speaker 2: I can pronounce Sham Pitbull's name the right way, because
- 28:08Speaker 2: it's not champagne. Champagny. And I just want to point
- 28:12Speaker 2: out to those of you who don't know why I
- 28:14Speaker 2: could get this wrong. It spells C-H-A-M-P-A-G-N-I-E, right? So champagne
- 28:20Speaker 2: is not guaranteed. For sure. That ain't how you say
- 28:23Speaker 2: it in French.
- 28:24Speaker 1: No.
- 28:24Speaker 2: So anyway, champagne people and them dudes, they out here hooping.
- 28:28Speaker 2: They out here making it happen.
- 28:31Speaker 5: But it is just so crazy to watch grown men
- 28:33Speaker 5: have no desire to come anywhere near the basket.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Because there's a dude down there that's eight feet tall, right?
- 28:40Speaker 3: Eight feet tall coming back from injury. No, thanks.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Like I am of the belief that. The playoffs are different.
- 28:47Speaker 2: And you're, watch what's, look at what's happening with Detroit, right?
- 28:51Speaker 2: The playoffs are different and you have to figure out
- 28:53Speaker 2: how to play in this different type of basketball before
- 28:56Speaker 2: you can just walk to a championship, right? Like it's
- 28:58Speaker 2: not just the, oh, you got to lose. No, there's
- 29:01Speaker 2: a terrain that you have to get to understand that
- 29:04Speaker 2: this is just so completely different than whatever you've done
- 29:06Speaker 2: in the past. But you know what else is different?
- 29:10Speaker 2: Having a dude in the middle that's eight feet tall.
- 29:15Speaker 2: nobody's ever had to do that before in the playoffs.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Cause look, I believe that if Denver comes out there
- 29:22Speaker 2: and they play against San Antonio, San Antonio right now
- 29:26Speaker 2: is playing against a team that's in the same boat
- 29:27Speaker 2: as them as it relates to experience.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I think that if Denver figures out how to pull
- 29:32Speaker 2: it together against Minnesota, which again is very possible, right?
- 29:35Speaker 2: Like I would not write them off completely. Um, if
- 29:40Speaker 2: they go against San Antonio then we're gonna see slash
- 29:43Speaker 2: learn a lot about the Spurs and what they have
- 29:47Speaker 2: to get together because you saw that end of the
- 29:49Speaker 2: regular season game where Jokic put the 37 on victory
- 29:52Speaker 2: hit him with the chest tap like And.
- 29:54Speaker 3: I mean, that Spurs team is young.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a lot for them to get
- 29:59Speaker 2: figured out in the course of this. That's the series
- 30:04Speaker 2: that could be an issue, okay? However, if they get
- 30:09Speaker 2: to play against the Anthony Edwards-less Minnesota Timberwolves, guys, I
- 30:16Speaker 2: don't think that one's going to take very long. Right.
- 30:19Speaker 2: And it will also get us I know I've talked
- 30:22Speaker 2: about this on the show many times, but let us
- 30:23Speaker 2: not forget. When Rudy Gobert won defensive player of the
- 30:27Speaker 2: year two years ago, Victor said in French, congratulations to him,
- 30:33Speaker 2: that he would never win another one. I have never
- 30:37Speaker 2: gotten the feeling that Rudy and Victor are amis.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Correct.
- 30:44Speaker 2: You understand what I'm saying? I don't get the feeling
- 30:47Speaker 2: that they're buddies. I don't get the feeling. Here's what
- 30:50Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 30:51Speaker 5: I don't think Victor takes Rudy seriously, which is a
- 30:55Speaker 5: common thing in the NBA, I will point out.
- 30:58Speaker 2: But I don't think that he takes Rudy seriously. You
- 31:02Speaker 2: tell him that he's going to be matched up against Rudy,
- 31:05Speaker 2: he's going to be pulling Rudy out to the three-point
- 31:07Speaker 2: line and trying to destroy him.
- 31:09Speaker 3: For sure.
- 31:11Speaker 2: I don't think the Timberwolves have any chance and we
- 31:13Speaker 2: are hurtling toward at once Adam Silver's best dream and
- 31:18Speaker 2: worst nightmare.
- 31:20Speaker 3: A giant rivalry for the next 10 years involving San
- 31:24Speaker 3: Antonio and Oklahoma City.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 31:27Speaker 5: You know how furious it has to be that everybody
- 31:30Speaker 5: has to catch connecting flights between those places that really
- 31:34Speaker 5: aren't that far.
- 31:35Speaker 2: From each other.
- 31:35Speaker 3: David Stern is rolling over his grave.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Oh my God. David Stern would have sent Scott Foster.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Dangerous Danny Davis. Teddy Long, Richard Steele, like every referee.
- 31:50Speaker 3: He might have gotten Donahue out of retirement.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 31:55Speaker 2: He'd have got Earl Hebner. He'd have got every referee
- 31:58Speaker 2: that anybody has ever heard of for being janky anywhere else.
- 32:02Speaker 2: That dude that missed the call in the 85 World Series,
- 32:05Speaker 2: Don Deconger. They'd have any of them motherfuckers out here.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Terry Rozier, you'd make him a referee if you had to,
- 32:12Speaker 2: to try to prevent this from happening. It is going
- 32:15Speaker 2: to happen. Every single year.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Vince McMahon in a referee jersey before he heads.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Yes.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Hey, man, let me tell you something. Let me tell
- 32:23Speaker 2: you how good an organization Oklahoma City is. Think about this.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Not once has anybody been like, yo, you're going to
- 32:28Speaker 2: have to move them. Right. They talk about trying to
- 32:31Speaker 2: move the Grizzlies to Nashville. They talk about all this stuff.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Oklahoma City is like, no, we holding our brick over here.
- 32:40Speaker 2: We do our part. And they do. Like, we fill
- 32:43Speaker 2: this bitch up. Our teams are good. We get loud.
- 32:46Speaker 2: We have typically been a television draw throughout our history. Like,
- 32:50Speaker 2: it was, I mean, you probably remember what a big
- 32:53Speaker 2: deal it was when they got that team from Seattle
- 32:55Speaker 2: and everybody acted like it was such an injustice that
- 32:58Speaker 2: they had done that, you know, and everything else. And
- 33:00Speaker 2: they have held it down.
- 33:02Speaker 3: For two decades.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Yes. In a market that people would think would not
- 33:07Speaker 2: necessarily be that NBA-friendly.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Except they like, brother, we rooted for the very Switzerland,
- 33:13Speaker 2: Oklahoma Sooners. We know what it takes to win. They
- 33:17Speaker 2: ain't got all them dorks on that team for the people.
- 33:22Speaker 2: They got all them dorks on that team because they
- 33:23Speaker 2: need some people that's happy just playing PlayStation. And that's
- 33:26Speaker 2: all they need to satisfy their nightlife Jones. That's what
- 33:31Speaker 2: they got. A bunch of dudes that like each other.
- 33:33Speaker 2: But that series is coming. I cannot wait. I cannot wait.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Victor might get Rudy, who he hates, as his warm-up
- 33:40Speaker 2: for the guy that he really hates and he really
- 33:44Speaker 2: doesn't take seriously.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Victor.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, hey, man. There's no way Victor be out
- 33:52Speaker 2: there posting up with the monks. I'm assuming he knows
- 33:56Speaker 2: some form of Kung Fu, which is terrifying. Can you
- 34:00Speaker 2: imagine getting jabbed in the face?
- 34:03Speaker 3: Can you imagine how far away Victor is when he
- 34:05Speaker 3: kicks you?
- 34:06Speaker 2: That's all I'm saying, man. Like he ain't got no
- 34:09Speaker 2: idea what his go-go gadget arms going to stroll off
- 34:11Speaker 2: on you. But now imagine all these things we know
- 34:14Speaker 2: about him and the way he talks. Imagine what he
- 34:17Speaker 2: thinks about Minnesota's most wanted Chet Holmgren. Can I take
- 34:24Speaker 2: my laugh right quick?
- 34:32Speaker 3: That's good stuff.
- 34:33Speaker 2: I did that.
- 34:33Speaker 5: I just came up with it right then, too. That
- 34:35Speaker 5: was the best part. I wasn't even planning for it.
- 34:37Speaker 5: He has to think nothing of him.
- 34:39Speaker 1: No.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Nothing at all. Oh, my God. And let me see
- 34:42Speaker 2: how much, like, the beef trickles down. The whole Spurs
- 34:45Speaker 2: don't fuck with Chet.
- 34:46Speaker 3: No.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Just because Victor doesn't fuck with Chet. Like, that's what
- 34:50Speaker 2: that is. We've got that, and then we got Boston.
- 34:54Speaker 2: These Knicks, as they have been behaving and currently constructed,
- 34:57Speaker 2: Boston is going to run them out of the building.
- 35:01Speaker 2: at least it feels that way. Maybe the Knicks mess
- 35:03Speaker 2: around and get it back together, right? My thing with
- 35:06Speaker 2: the Knicks, and I just don't know if you can
- 35:08Speaker 2: win this way. And I don't know if there's anybody...
- 35:14Speaker 2: I've been watching, I've watched every game of the Knicks
- 35:16Speaker 2: and the Hawks, right? I got attachments. I live here,
- 35:19Speaker 2: you know. Used to root for the Hawks before they
- 35:22Speaker 2: told me not to root for them anymore, February 24th, 1994.
- 35:24Speaker 1: So anyway.
- 35:29Speaker 2: There's only one person in that building that can guard
- 35:32Speaker 2: Carl Anthony Towns. And it's number 32 for the Knicks.
- 35:37Speaker 2: There's nobody. Look at who the Hawks are trotting out there.
- 35:41Speaker 2: They trotting out the tall and that's all all-stars. That's
- 35:44Speaker 2: like in the post from Clark Atlanta University, Bo Money Jones.
- 35:54Speaker 2: That's who they be having down there guarding him. Why
- 35:57Speaker 2: is he not scoring.
- 35:59Speaker 2: So many times that's like why are you not scoring
- 36:02Speaker 2: 40 points a game is my question there shouldn't be
- 36:04Speaker 2: a single there should be only one person in the
- 36:06Speaker 2: nba who can guard him and that's victor and it
- 36:08Speaker 2: don't never feel that way.
- 36:11Speaker 3: No and he has and he's good for a good
- 36:15Speaker 3: true playoff meltdown once a year and we haven't gotten
- 36:17Speaker 3: that yet.
- 36:17Speaker 2: He is but i just feel like boston and to
- 36:22Speaker 2: be fair to boston it feels like they've made it
- 36:25Speaker 2: to the conference finals every year for like the last
- 36:27Speaker 2: 10 Pretty close. I mean, Jalen Brown and Jalen Brown
- 36:33Speaker 2: and Jason Tatum, they're tested like Magic Johnson was through
- 36:37Speaker 2: nine years. Obviously not with the same number of championships,
- 36:40Speaker 2: but they just go deep. They've just gone deep in
- 36:42Speaker 2: the playoffs every year. They had that year with Kyrie,
- 36:45Speaker 2: you know, it got weird with Kyrie. I think that
- 36:47Speaker 2: was 2019, but otherwise they just go and they go
- 36:50Speaker 2: and they go. And yeah, the Knicks had them last year.
- 36:53Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 36:56Speaker 2: I don't, nothing that I've seen in this series with
- 36:58Speaker 2: them against the Hawks has indicated to me that they're
- 37:01Speaker 2: going to be there. They play it against a team
- 37:03Speaker 2: that is the, you know, about the, great rely on
- 37:06Speaker 2: for the lie. It's easy to kill a man that's
- 37:08Speaker 2: about the business of killing himself.
- 37:10Speaker 3: Jalen Brown's played in 139 playoff games. It's insane.
- 37:15Speaker 2: It's insane. And this is what year 10.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 37:17Speaker 2: This is his, this is his 10th year in the NBA.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Right.
- 37:20Speaker 2: So that means you say how many? 139.
- 37:22Speaker 3: So they're averaging.
- 37:25Speaker 2: Getting to 139. So it's 14 a year. Yes.
- 37:30Speaker 3: It's going to be at least two series a year.
- 37:32Speaker 2: It's going to get to, well, it's going to get
- 37:33Speaker 2: to like 15. So that's two and change. You're averaging.
- 37:37Speaker 3: He's got the same amount of playoff games as Patrick Ewing.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Yeah. You're wow. You're basically averaging the conference finals.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Yes.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Every year since that guy has gotten there. No, they're
- 37:49Speaker 2: going to, they're going to win the East, right? Those
- 37:55Speaker 2: are our three right now. But San Antonio, Oklahoma City, buddy,
- 38:01Speaker 2: if I was not so allergic to connected flights at
- 38:04Speaker 2: this point in my bourgeois ass life, I'd consider following
- 38:07Speaker 2: that series like the Grateful Dead. Shit, I wouldn't care
- 38:10Speaker 2: if Marvin Gaye was playing at halftime. You ain't got
- 38:12Speaker 2: me catching all them little... And by the way, that's
- 38:15Speaker 2: the plane that... It's going to be the plane that
- 38:16Speaker 2: go from San Antonio to Dallas or San Antonio to Houston.
- 38:21Speaker 2: And then that same plane that go from Houston to
- 38:23Speaker 2: Dallas to Oklahoma City. Buddy, let me tell you, hope
- 38:27Speaker 2: you're not looking for no leg room. That plane, I
- 38:30Speaker 2: know that plane. That plane is the plane I took
- 38:36Speaker 2: when I was over there flying Hammer Sickle Airlines in Vietnam.
- 38:43Speaker 2: That's my thing. New plane, what for? That's the planes
- 38:47Speaker 2: you get on and you look around and they don't
- 38:49Speaker 2: even put the Wi-Fi sticker up.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the Houston to Midland special.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It'll be... It ain't going... You can wait.
- 38:59Speaker 2: You can wait. We got Wi-Fi at home.
- 39:01Speaker 3: What's that important? You can wait 90 minutes.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Yeah, we got Wi-Fi at home, baby. You'll be all right.

- 40:32Speaker 2: Hey, let's be honest. At a certain age, our bodies
- 40:35Speaker 2: don't feel like they used to. Now, here's what I learned.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Your body makes testosterone, but a lot of it gets
- 40:41Speaker 2: locked up and can't be used. There's this protein called
- 40:44Speaker 2: SHBG that basically handcuffs your testosterone. Even if your body's
- 40:49Speaker 2: making testosterone, SHBG locks it up so you can't access it.
- 40:54Speaker 2: It's like having money in the bank, but your debit

- 41:55Speaker 2: We know you can't be on top of all the
- 41:57Speaker 2: news and information of the day, No need for the
- 41:59Speaker 2: social media feeds.
- 42:01Speaker 3: We got you. Now, if you haven't heard. All right, Bo,
- 42:05Speaker 3: if you haven't heard, a little bit of a boring
- 42:07Speaker 3: NFL draft, but the biggest story of the weekend, Rams
- 42:12Speaker 3: take Ty Simpson at number 13. Wes Need, general manager
- 42:18Speaker 3: and head coach on base, seemed to be at odds
- 42:20Speaker 3: about this pick the night of. They've since walked it back,
- 42:24Speaker 3: saying they're in lockstep, picking the first round quarterback. At
- 42:30Speaker 3: 13 overall, Bo, what was your reaction to this decision?
- 42:32Speaker 2: Okay, first of all, shout out to you, Dan Arlovsky.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Like no one has ever been validated by somebody else's
- 42:40Speaker 2: questionable decision. Quite like Dan Orlowski was.
- 42:43Speaker 3: I bet that man was doing the big balls dance
- 42:44Speaker 3: all weekend.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 42:46Speaker 3: If he knows it, but if he was, yeah, but
- 42:47Speaker 3: he was a very happy guy.
- 42:48Speaker 2: And look, I don't know Dan very well, but I've
- 42:50Speaker 2: met Dan a couple of times. He seems like a
- 42:52Speaker 2: very pleasant person and everybody I know that really works
- 42:54Speaker 2: with him, really likes him. Like he seems like a
- 42:56Speaker 2: very genuine, nice man. And I appreciate about him on
- 43:00Speaker 2: television is, Sometimes, I feel the same way about Chris Sims.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Sometimes they think things that nobody else thinks. And they
- 43:08Speaker 2: say them. Like, your opinion is not obligated to be
- 43:12Speaker 2: the median opinion, right? Like, this is how we think.
- 43:16Speaker 3: And he doesn't have any back down either.
- 43:18Speaker 2: No, he doesn't have back down because he is... He
- 43:20Speaker 2: always has a logic to support what it is that
- 43:23Speaker 2: he's talking about. Now, the thing with Ty Simpson is,
- 43:26Speaker 2: as my good buddy Dimitri said, his big Alabama fan,
- 43:30Speaker 2: as he said when Ty Simpson got drafted, he was like,
- 43:31Speaker 2: have they watched him play? Like, I've been listening to
- 43:34Speaker 2: his scouting report and Ty Simpson the whole way, and
- 43:36Speaker 2: it's crazy. Ty Simpson is also 6'1, I want to say,
- 43:40Speaker 2: and it is kind of crazy town to take a
- 43:42Speaker 2: 6'1 quarterback that does not have unreal athleticism at the
- 43:45Speaker 2: number 13 pick in the draft at quarterback.
- 43:48Speaker 3: Who didn't play that much.
- 43:49Speaker 2: 15 starts like this. This is not Anthony Richardson where
- 43:52Speaker 2: you're like, hey, man, got to got to try. Right.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Don't give up yet. Tell you now, don't give up yet.
- 44:00Speaker 2: But but anyway, here's what got me about this is
- 44:03Speaker 2: that Sean McVay press conference and Sean McVay did not
- 44:06Speaker 2: have much to say about that selection.
- 44:09Speaker 3: Right.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Sean McVay, by the way, who has been spending the
- 44:13Speaker 2: last how long? Three weeks being like, oh, no need
- 44:16Speaker 2: to talk about me. Keep on talking about. The other
- 44:20Speaker 2: coaches don't talk about me. No, no, no. He has
- 44:23Speaker 2: been he has been asymptotically close to a major story
- 44:28Speaker 2: in the NFL. Asymptotically, though, stayed away. Anyway, he did
- 44:34Speaker 2: not sound very happy with that draft pick. Right. He
- 44:37Speaker 2: did not. And as you said, they have tried to
- 44:39Speaker 2: walk it back. I just want to point something out
- 44:42Speaker 2: to people right fast. Jeremy Fowler, ESPN, very good reporter.
- 44:47Speaker 2: He was inside the Rams draft room when they made,
- 44:50Speaker 2: by the way, imagine being him.
- 44:52Speaker 3: All right.
- 44:52Speaker 2: We're in the Rams draft room. Okay. Like what's the
- 44:56Speaker 2: most exciting thing that could possibly happen? Oh shit. They
- 44:59Speaker 2: took a quarterback when they have the rating league MVP.
- 45:01Speaker 1: Right. Okay.
- 45:03Speaker 2: And it's also worth noting that let's need the general manager,
- 45:06Speaker 2: his buddies with Ty Simpson's dad.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Yes.
- 45:10Speaker 2: We're also old enough now, Ryan, where people's dad's names
- 45:12Speaker 2: are Jason.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Yes.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Right.
- 45:14Speaker 2: We're at that point. So anyway, In the article, Fowler
- 45:20Speaker 2: had an anonymous quote attributed to somebody familiar with the
- 45:24Speaker 2: Rams thinking who said they are both in lockstep. Okay,
- 45:31Speaker 2: that was the phrasing. They are both in lockstep. The
- 45:35Speaker 2: next day, Les Snead does a presser and he says
- 45:40Speaker 2: that the Rams, let me say it says that McVay
- 45:45Speaker 2: and the whole everybody is in lockstep. Now maybe lockstep
- 45:50Speaker 2: is just their word, but I felt like I sniffed
- 45:54Speaker 2: out who told us that the whole organization was in lockstep.
- 45:59Speaker 2: And it's the same guy who put his name on
- 46:02Speaker 2: everybody being in lockstep. That makes me a little more questionable.
- 46:06Speaker 3: The more you say you're in lockstep, the less I
- 46:09Speaker 3: think you are in lockstep.
- 46:10Speaker 2: You couldn't even put your name on it. That's my thing,
- 46:13Speaker 2: is that it seems like you asked to be anonymous
- 46:16Speaker 2: saying lockstep so it wouldn't just seem like you was
- 46:18Speaker 2: the only motherfucker that was saying it. Like that way
- 46:21Speaker 2: we have two people saying it's lockstep, but it sounds
- 46:23Speaker 2: like it's only one person in lockstep. And I find
- 46:26Speaker 2: it far more likely that it's one person in lockstep
- 46:28Speaker 2: than two, because number one, nobody else would have taken
- 46:32Speaker 2: that dude at number 13. And number two, I watched
- 46:35Speaker 2: Sean McVay run Jared Goff out of town. And Jared
- 46:39Speaker 2: Goff was a definite better prospect coming out of school
- 46:44Speaker 2: than Ty Simpson was. And Jared Goff, for all his weaknesses,
- 46:48Speaker 2: is still a quarterback of a very, very, very good
- 46:51Speaker 2: team and has had like a 10-year career going into
- 46:53Speaker 2: year 11. It'll probably be like a 15-year career. And
- 46:56Speaker 2: the problems they've had up there have not been Jared Goff.
- 47:01Speaker 2: And that wasn't good enough for Sean McVay. But you're
- 47:03Speaker 2: telling me he okay with Ty Simpson?
- 47:08Speaker 1: Okay.
- 47:10Speaker 3: All right, speaking of two people who are not in lockstep,
- 47:13Speaker 3: Megan Thee Stallion and Kaleigh Thompson seem to have broken up.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Megan Thee Stallion shared on Instagram's story and released an
- 47:20Speaker 3: official statement that their relationship has ended. Per her story,
- 47:25Speaker 3: Thompson had cheated on her since she introduced him to
- 47:27Speaker 3: her family. And it said with him, quote, playing house.
- 47:32Speaker 3: But what was your reaction to this?
- 47:34Speaker 2: Oh boy, Ryan, one thing I can tell in this
- 47:36Speaker 2: is that you got married early, so you've never had
- 47:38Speaker 2: anybody use words like playing house in the likes to
- 47:42Speaker 2: describe the situation. Oh boy, it does not go, this
- 47:46Speaker 2: does not happen to me personally, just to be clear. But,
- 47:49Speaker 2: nothing they hate more than feeling like they play in
- 47:53Speaker 2: house as opposed to actually having a place in the house. Look, man,
- 47:57Speaker 2: I've been saying that whole time about that situation. I
- 47:59Speaker 2: didn't know why Clay was still playing basketball. They look
- 48:01Speaker 2: so happy. They said they had bought houses and all
- 48:03Speaker 2: of this stuff, but maybe he wasn't that happy. I
- 48:09Speaker 2: don't have the answer. I don't have the explanation. I
- 48:11Speaker 2: watched her be very happy, and I watched him kind
- 48:14Speaker 2: of be like Clay Thompson.
- 48:15Speaker 3: Right.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Right? I don't know. I just know this. That parasocial
- 48:20Speaker 2: relationship that many of the ladies have with Megan Thee Stallion,
- 48:25Speaker 2: vicious dog, vicious. Like, I don't know how online Klay
- 48:29Speaker 2: Thompson is. I do not know. But I do know this.
- 48:33Speaker 2: It is amazing how some things just live online. And
- 48:37Speaker 2: if you just let them stay online, you can have
- 48:39Speaker 2: no idea what's going on, right? Like, one of my
- 48:42Speaker 2: partners was telling me that one of my biggest haters
- 48:46Speaker 2: was going off on me over the weekend. And I
- 48:50Speaker 2: told him, I have no idea what you're talking about.
- 48:52Speaker 2: And I have no interest in knowing what he's talking about.
- 48:55Speaker 2: And I still have no idea. Like once I stopped
- 48:58Speaker 2: looking on the internet for what people had to say
- 49:00Speaker 2: to me, it all went away.
- 49:03Speaker 5: Right?
- 49:04Speaker 2: Like, when you feel like, oh my God, I'm under
- 49:06Speaker 2: assault online, right? Like, you know, look.
- 49:09Speaker 3: Not if you don't look at your mentions, you aren't.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Not if you don't look, right? It's amazing. It all
- 49:13Speaker 2: goes away. And I am saying for clay thompson if
- 49:16Speaker 2: you are not online like that keep it that way
- 49:19Speaker 2: brother because they are on your neck it is i
- 49:24Speaker 2: it whoo you know when megan had it she done
- 49:27Speaker 2: had a tough life right she had a lot of
- 49:28Speaker 2: tough things happen to her and the parasocial among us
- 49:32Speaker 2: really wrap their arms around her man like they they
- 49:35Speaker 2: they they want They want the best things for her.
- 49:38Speaker 2: And I see that and I understand it, but I
- 49:39Speaker 2: saw some of the craziest shit I've ever seen on
- 49:41Speaker 2: the internet. Like you would think that they, that people,
- 49:44Speaker 2: we don't know these people, man. Even if you have
- 49:48Speaker 2: an opinion, it's not the fact, it's not that people
- 49:50Speaker 2: have an opinion on it because having opinions on celebrity
- 49:52Speaker 2: stuff or whatever is one thing. It was the passion.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Well, let's say again, it's the parasocial. It's making it about. Yes.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Like I said, there's some people out here who don't
- 50:04Speaker 2: feel like they was playing house before.
- 50:07Speaker 5: There was some PTSD off of that or whatever it was.
- 50:11Speaker 2: I don't even know. But yeah, Clay was white. Nah.
- 50:16Speaker 2: The other lesson to be learned, and this is the
- 50:18Speaker 2: other thing about being very online. Hey, man. You deal
- 50:23Speaker 2: with somebody that's very online, eventually it's going to be
- 50:26Speaker 2: about you.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 50:28Speaker 2: It might not have your name in it, but eventually
- 50:32Speaker 2: it's going to be about you. And hey, maybe you
- 50:35Speaker 2: don't care, right? But she so online.
- 50:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 50:40Speaker 2: She's showing them watching movies at the house and cooking
- 50:44Speaker 2: dinner and everything else. And then I'd hear, you know, look,
- 50:46Speaker 2: that's the game. That's what that's part of the business
- 50:48Speaker 2: plan is selling access to her whole life. She does
- 50:53Speaker 2: the lives with people. And look again, she's been through
- 50:55Speaker 2: some things, man. I don't know what the relationship is
- 50:57Speaker 2: that she feels she has with her audience. Like if
- 50:59Speaker 2: those are her friends, fame is a very isolating thing.
- 51:02Speaker 2: sort of thing or whatever it is. But anyway, Clay
- 51:05Speaker 2: wound up in all of that, right? He was there.
- 51:08Speaker 2: And I don't think he realized that can turn on
- 51:11Speaker 2: you very, very, very quickly. But all you got to
- 51:17Speaker 2: do is log off. And it's like it never happened. However,
- 51:23Speaker 2: you can't ever log back on. They were saying fuck
- 51:26Speaker 2: him and his dog. I saw his dog catch some strings.
- 51:32Speaker 3: All right. We mentioned this earlier in the show, but
- 51:35Speaker 3: there was a shooting at the White House Correspondents Center
- 51:38Speaker 3: over the weekend. President rushed from the stage. It appears
- 51:42Speaker 3: to be OK. The suspect is in custody and being
- 51:46Speaker 3: arraigned in federal court this morning. Bo, what was your
- 51:50Speaker 3: reaction to this news?
- 51:53Speaker 2: Do you remember, and this is how crazy life is.
- 51:56Speaker 2: Do you remember that story that broke? I think it
- 51:59Speaker 2: was maybe a year or so ago. It was in
- 52:02Speaker 2: the New York Times and it was about Elon Musk
- 52:05Speaker 2: drug addiction.
- 52:06Speaker 1: Yes.
- 52:07Speaker 2: And it was a very extensive report about him just
- 52:10Speaker 2: being like flat out strung out on dope. That next day,
- 52:15Speaker 2: there was something going on in the Oval Office and
- 52:18Speaker 2: there was some press availability and it went to the
- 52:21Speaker 2: questions and I had never heard a softer, set of
- 52:27Speaker 2: questions ever. And it was the reminder that, yo, they
- 52:31Speaker 2: basically cleared out who the people were who get credentialed
- 52:35Speaker 2: and who show up to ask the questions, right? Like
- 52:38Speaker 2: it's all friendly fire whenever it's time to answer questions
- 52:42Speaker 2: in that setting. And I thought about that because after
- 52:45Speaker 2: whatever happened with this thing at the dinner, and hey,
- 52:52Speaker 2: I will not be speculating on what did or did
- 52:56Speaker 2: not happen, and why or why not. I think it
- 53:00Speaker 2: did or did not happen. You'll have to do that
- 53:03Speaker 2: without me. I will simply say, I understand your questions.
- 53:08Speaker 3: Right?
- 53:09Speaker 2: However, What jumped out to me was them cats come
- 53:14Speaker 2: out after it happened. They all tuxed up. Nobody looks nervous.
- 53:18Speaker 2: Nobody looked. Ryan, I don't know if you've ever been
- 53:20Speaker 2: somewhere where people started shooting, man, but that gets you
- 53:22Speaker 2: a little jittery. You know what I'm saying?
- 53:26Speaker 3: Yeah. I can imagine it's a little unnerving.
- 53:29Speaker 2: It's energy to it, right?
- 53:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:31Speaker 2: Nobody looked unnerved, right? They were all selling what a
- 53:35Speaker 2: great job law enforcement did. That was the sell of
- 53:39Speaker 2: that immediate press conference to me was how well law
- 53:43Speaker 2: enforcement did in handling the situation. And then it got
- 53:48Speaker 2: to the question. And the first question was from the
- 53:50Speaker 2: president of the White House Correspondents Association. And, bro, you
- 53:56Speaker 2: would have thought that they had just won the NFC
- 53:58Speaker 2: championship game. What was going through your mind in that moment?
- 54:03Speaker 2: Like I turned it off after like two questions because
- 54:05Speaker 2: the questions were all sound like sideline reporters. But like
- 54:09Speaker 2: Craig Sager would have had some real questions. They had
- 54:12Speaker 2: a real questions like. So how did somebody get. How
- 54:15Speaker 2: did this happen. Like not one person in the director
- 54:18Speaker 2: of FBI was there. Not one person was asking the
- 54:21Speaker 2: real important question. How did this happen. How did somebody
- 54:26Speaker 2: get close enough to any of this to be shooting?
- 54:30Speaker 2: How did this Secret Service officer get shot? Wow, so
- 54:33Speaker 2: this guy got in and it was shooting and nobody
- 54:36Speaker 2: shot him, but a Secret Service officer got shot. How
- 54:38Speaker 2: did this happen? Nobody had any of those actual factual
- 54:42Speaker 2: questions that one would typically need to have in a
- 54:44Speaker 2: media situation after this had gone down. Because all the
- 54:48Speaker 2: people whose job it would be to ask such questions,
- 54:51Speaker 2: those people are not allowed anymore anywhere near the dude
- 54:55Speaker 2: to actually ask any questions that was what jumped off
- 54:59Speaker 2: the page to me is that we came out of
- 55:01Speaker 2: that with so much mystery as to what exactly happened
- 55:05Speaker 2: in a room full of media people by the way
- 55:07Speaker 2: i guess everybody's like look man we off tonight but
- 55:09Speaker 2: we ain't even we ain't even doing this shit you
- 55:11Speaker 2: know what i'm saying maybe all i know is they
- 55:15Speaker 2: have decimated the question asking business at a time where
- 55:20Speaker 2: we should have more questions than we have ever had before.
- 55:28Speaker 3: All right, Bo, got a few voicemails. A lot of
- 55:31Speaker 3: great ones. Here's our first.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Hey, Bo, I got a music question for you. I've
- 55:41Speaker 1: been on a little 90s, 2000s kick in rap. And
- 55:47Speaker 1: one thing that I lived through, but I've forgotten now,
- 55:52Speaker 1: but now that I listen to the music, was how
- 55:55Speaker 1: prevalent Nate Dogg was with his hooks back in the day. 2000,
- 55:59Speaker 1: early 2000s, I mean, any hit, he was on it.
- 56:03Speaker 1: So my question to you is, has there ever been
- 56:07Speaker 1: anyone else in music that carved their spot, their niche,
- 56:11Speaker 1: as perfectly as Nate Dogg did with being the hook master?
- 56:15Speaker 1: I mean, he was basically the Mariano Rivera of rap, right?
- 56:20Speaker 2: Of hooks.
- 56:21Speaker 3: You bring him in, boom, it's closed.
- 56:24Speaker 1: So, Is there anyone else in music that had a
- 56:27Speaker 1: specific spot? I know there's greats in all their work,
- 56:31Speaker 1: but a specific spot like that. Love the show. Been
- 56:34Speaker 1: a fan forever. Love you and Ryan's chemistry.
- 56:36Speaker 3: Keep it going.
- 56:39Speaker 2: All right. Hola, mi vida es bien.
- 56:44Speaker 4: Yo dije a mis amigos mi español cuando estaba en
- 56:49Speaker 4: Buenos Aires.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Fue muy bien. Los locos.
- 56:56Speaker 4: Los locos me dijeron, tan bueno mi español fue. Estoy
- 57:02Speaker 4: muy orgulloso sobre mi progreso con el idioma. So, gracias
- 57:08Speaker 4: para tu pregunta en español. Yo entendí tu pregunta y
- 57:12Speaker 4: ahora estoy, ahora puedo responder en el idioma.
- 57:20Speaker 2: Hey. As for Nate Dowd, The Nate Dogg thing is
- 57:25Speaker 2: interesting because what people don't remember is, yes, like he,
- 57:29Speaker 2: I wonder if he just had really good taste, right?
- 57:31Speaker 2: It's kind of like Billy Preston. Every time Billy Preston
- 57:33Speaker 2: is on a jam for the Stones, it is a jam.
- 57:36Speaker 2: And I want to know what songs he was like, nah,
- 57:38Speaker 2: I ain't getting on that, right? Like how many times
- 57:40Speaker 2: Nate Dogg was like, nah, nah, this isn't.
- 57:43Speaker 3: Like his real skill was not making hooks, it was discretion?
- 57:46Speaker 2: Yes, discernment. That is the thing that he really had
- 57:50Speaker 2: down pat. I still wonder whatever happened to the homie Domino. See, Ryan,
- 57:55Speaker 2: when Nate Dogg came out and Regulate came out, it
- 57:57Speaker 2: was another dude who came out at the same time
- 58:00Speaker 2: named Domino. Domino had a jam called the Ghetto Jam.
- 58:04Speaker 2: And Domino and Nate Dogg were doing very similar things.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Domino was definitely a better singer. They was both from LA.
- 58:11Speaker 2: All of this. But Nate Dogg, I guess, was down
- 58:14Speaker 2: with the right crew. And so Nate Dogg's whole situation
- 58:17Speaker 2: took off. Nate Dogg also, it should be noted, Nate
- 58:20Speaker 2: Dogg came back when Dr. Dre came back. Remember when Dr.
- 58:24Speaker 2: Dre fell off a little bit, I don't feel like
- 58:26Speaker 2: we was hearing Nate Dogg that much. But what I
- 58:29Speaker 2: want to know for Nate Dogg and for Nate Dogg's
- 58:31Speaker 2: kinfolk is... Was he writing those hooks? Because if he
- 58:35Speaker 2: was writing those hooks, the dude that writes the hook
- 58:37Speaker 2: typically gets 50% of the publishing. And so if Nate Dogg,
- 58:41Speaker 2: Nate Dogg would have had a really great hustle if
- 58:44Speaker 2: he's the one writing those hooks. He could come in
- 58:46Speaker 2: and get the 50. When nobody working smarter, not harder
- 58:51Speaker 2: than Nate Dogg.
- 58:53Speaker 3: All right, here's our next one.
- 58:55Speaker 6: Hey, what's going on, folks? This is Sean calling from Georgia.
- 58:58Speaker 6: And I know I had a question for you. I
- 59:01Speaker 6: know that sports, nostalgia, nostalgia in general is like a
- 59:03Speaker 6: big thing that we have going on now. But I'm wondering, like,
- 59:07Speaker 6: is the sports nostalgia tied to the fact that, you know,
- 59:09Speaker 6: a lot of athletes we have nowadays, they're all kind
- 59:12Speaker 6: of like really curated and they've been like developed. You know,
- 59:15Speaker 6: we don't have no Charles Oakley no more, no Charles Barkley.
- 59:19Speaker 6: You know, people at P & A do a very different,
- 59:20Speaker 6: do their own thing. And I'm just wondering, do you
- 59:22Speaker 6: think it's just because of how, you know, like curated
- 59:25Speaker 6: our athletes are today?
- 59:26Speaker 1: Appreciate it.
- 59:27Speaker 2: I think that that is certainly a part of it.
- 59:29Speaker 2: I think the other part of it is this is
- 59:31Speaker 2: just what old people like to do. Always have, always will.
- 59:35Speaker 2: The new is always not going to be like the old,
- 59:38Speaker 2: and therefore we want ourselves a little piece of the old.
- 59:40Speaker 2: But it's interesting because, like I said, when we had
- 59:43Speaker 2: those athletes that I think were far more interesting than
- 59:45Speaker 2: the guys we had now, there was people that yearned
- 59:47Speaker 2: for the days when the athletes was boring as hell.
- 59:50Speaker 2: You know, there's people that yearn for the days the
- 59:52Speaker 2: athletes were political. There's people that yearn for the days
- 59:54Speaker 2: of whatever it was Because for most people, getting old sucks.
- 59:59Speaker 2: And therefore, they yearn for whatever the thing is. You
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: know what I mean? But I do think that's part
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: of it. I have said this for the longest. I
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: said this in a room full of athletes, and they
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: were not trying to hear what I was saying. Are
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: you familiar with Deal Book Ryan, the New York Times thing?
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: And so they invited me to do a panel. But
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: the problem was, it was a panel that was about branding.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: The problem was, everybody on the panel was an athlete
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: except me, and I wasn't the moderator.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: Interesting group.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a little different. And so like
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: the point I was trying to make that they didn't
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: agree with me on. And I mean, look, I would
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: be honest. I was getting a little high minded for
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: this situation. But I'm like, we have to talk about
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: what branding needs in the first place. Like real high
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: school debate shit, right? Like we have to define the terms.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: But I did think we need to define the terms
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: because we're not necessarily talking about the same thing when
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: we talk about branding. Like go ask people who have
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: a general idea. But if you ask them specifically what
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: they mean by branding, what are they talking about?
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: Probably, and people probably were talking about social media.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Yes, right, right. Or just the idea of doing commercials.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Like I am a brand and then I go sell stuff, whatever.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: But I meant a brand in terms of when people
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: look at you, they know what it is, right? Like
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: that's what a brand is supposed to be. The brand
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: is supposed to be a shortcut that when you see
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: the logo, you see the name or whatever, it represents
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: something larger. That's what I'm thinking about when we talk
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: about brands, okay? People think that in order to be
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: a brand that you need to be you need to
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: be boring, basically, because otherwise you're going to offend people.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: And that interferes with your branding. You see what I mean? Now,
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: it's like in terms of how that I was easy
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: to hop back and forth between the terms. But my
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: point was. That strategy only works for the best of
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: the best. The idea of I'm not going to say
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: anything interesting only works if you're able to make money
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: just on the basis of whatever it is that you do.
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: If your brand is excellence.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Right, right. Or you're so good at your job that
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: all that, like Michael Jordan, who wasn't boring, by the way,
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: but he didn't say anything controversial. But all you had
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: to do was watch Michael Jordan play basketball and that
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: was the brand. Okay. Charles Barkley, the brand was being outspoken.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Like there's, I contend there's more money in being interesting
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: than there is in being boring for 95% of the
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: people that we're talking about. You might lose some people,
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: but you'll get more people that like, well, Anthony Edwards,
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: great example. Okay. He is completely rough around the edges
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: and that's the brand. He would be far less attractive financially.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: And I think in terms of to the people, if
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: he were not the way that he is. You see
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: what I mean? And so all these guys are being
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: bred from childhood on up to be boring and be
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: quiet and to say all the right things. And I'm like, brother,
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: the money for you is in being interesting. You're not
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: good enough to be uninteresting and make that money. The
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: money for you is in being interesting. So hopefully somebody
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: will take me up on this and then everybody will
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: see that I am right and then we'll get interesting
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: athletes again.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: All right, here's our last one.
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: Hey, shout out to Bo Manny and Ryan.
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: This is A.A. Ryan here in Kansas City. Question for
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: you all.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: Assuming Mr.
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: Vrabel is the coach of the Patriots starting the season
- 1:03:23Speaker 7: and doesn't resign, which this is harder to do in
- 1:03:29Speaker 7: NFL stadiums than in the NBA because sound is a
- 1:03:32Speaker 7: little bit more enclosed in the arenas and the DJs
- 1:03:36Speaker 7: usually are different in the NBA than in the NFL
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: which team in the NFL on the away game when
- 1:03:43Speaker 7: they play the Patriots is going to be petty enough
- 1:03:49Speaker 7: to play Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson and also just
- 1:03:56Speaker 7: a throw in question are y'all planning to go see
- 1:03:58Speaker 7: the new Michael Jackson movie I plan on I don't
- 1:04:01Speaker 7: go to the theater as much, but I'm planning on
- 1:04:03Speaker 7: checking it.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: Out in the theater.
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 1:04:06Speaker 7: Anyway, love the show, Bo. Keep doing great things. Holla
- 1:04:09Speaker 7: at y'all later.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: 31.
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: Oh, yes. All of them.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: Everyone had the same bright idea. I knew what it
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: was before you even finished your sentence. Everybody's had that
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: same bright idea. I imagine the Jets will be the
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: ones to most fervently come out here. with that. You
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: know that the Minnesotas, Brian Flores still over there. You
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: remember Brian Flores was playing them Jay-Z songs at Kenny Stills,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: and that dude was on his own team. You know
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: what I mean? Like, yeah, yeah, nah, they're going to
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: be the ones that do. And the thing that makes
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: that terrible is he's not Diana.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Damn, man. Tough go for Diana, man.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: Tough beat.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: It's a.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: This is the part where people would be like, even
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: when you try to dog him, you're dogging her. And
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: it's like, you got a point.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: I see what you're saying. That does feel unfair. It
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: does feel unfair. But hey, ladies and gentlemen, thanks so
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: much for joining us here on The Right Time. We
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: do this four days a week. Ryan Brumley handles everything

- 1:05:21Speaker 2: good job of making your bed up.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: She told me that yesterday.
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: It's the, you know, that's the audience who makes people happy.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: Yes, he's like, I noticed.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: Your mother and mine.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Yes, he's like, I noticed you're doing a better job
