December 22 - Preparing Room for the Coming King · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, December 22nd,
• 0:11
  Mystery, Fire, and the Messenger.
• 0:13
There are moments in life that feel like a mystery.
• 0:16
Things you can't explain, can't predict, and can't fully
• 0:19
control. Proverbs chapter 30 verses 18 to
• 0:22
19 says 3 things are too wonderful for me for I do not
• 0:25
understand, and it lists the wonder of an eagle in the sky, a
• 0:29
ship on the sea, and even the way of a man with a virgin.
• 0:32
It's like scripture is saying some things are bigger than your
• 0:35
understanding. And that's exactly where the
• 0:38
Christmas story begins. God doing something beyond human
• 0:41
explanation. Isaiah chapter 40 verse 3 says a
• 0:45
voice cries in the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord,
• 0:48
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
• 0:51
That's not just poetic, that's a call to get ready, to make room
• 0:54
to clear the clutter. Then Malachi chapter 3 verse one
• 0:57
says, behold, I send my messenger and he will prepare
• 1:01
the way before me. God wasn't silent, He was
• 1:04
setting the stage. He was sending a messenger
• 1:06
before he sent the Messiah. And in Matthew Chapter 11, Jesus
• 1:10
explains that John the Baptist is that messenger.
• 1:13
He even says among those born of women, there has arisen no one
• 1:17
greater than John the Baptist. John wasn't polished.
• 1:21
He wasn't trying to be popular. He was bold, intense, and
• 1:24
completely focused on one thing, pointing people to Jesus.
• 1:28
That's what preparing the way looks like.
• 1:30
It's not just knowing facts about God.
• 1:32
It's letting him rearrange your life.
• 1:34
It's choosing honesty over pretending, repentance over
• 1:38
excuses, obedience over comfort. And here's the crazy part.
• 1:42
God still uses messengers. Sometimes it's a parent, a
• 1:46
friend, a pastor, a random conversation, or even a moment
• 1:50
where God convicts you quietly in your own heart.
• 1:52
The question isn't whether God is speaking.
• 1:55
The question is whether you're willing to listen, and whether
• 1:58
you'll live in a way that points others to Jesus, too.
• 2:01
Let's pray, Heavenly Father, help me recognize your voice and
• 2:05
respond when you're calling me to prepare the way for you in my
• 2:07
  life. Remove what's distracting me,
• 2:10
soften what's hardened in me, and straighten what's crooked in
• 2:13
me. Make me brave like John, someone
• 2:15
who points people to Jesus with my words and my life, even when
• 2:19
I don't understand everything. Help me trust that you are
• 2:21
moving in Jesus name, Amen. Imagine stepping into a new year
• 2:26
with clarity in your spirit, strength in your soul, and the
• 2:29
supernatural backing of heaven behind every step you take.

with God in today's three-year Bible Reading plan, Proverbs
• 3:37
3018 to 20. World English Bible.
• 3:41
There are three things which are too amazing for me, 4 which I
• 3:44
don't understand. The way of an eagle in the air,
• 3:46
the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the middle
• 3:49
of the sea, and the way of a man with a maiden.
• 3:52
So is the way of an adulterous woman.
• 3:54
She eats and wipes her mouth and says, I have done nothing wrong.
• 3:57
Isaiah 41 to 8. World English Bible.
• 4:01
Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
• 4:04
Speak comfortably to Jerusalem, and call out to her that her
• 4:07
warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that
• 4:10
she has received of Yahweh's hand double for all her sins.
• 4:14
The voice of one who calls out. Prepare the way of Yahweh in the
• 4:17
wilderness. Make a level highway in the
• 4:19
desert for our God. Every valley shall be exalted,
• 4:23
and every mountain and hill shall be made low.
• 4:26
The uneven shall be made level, and the rough place is a plain.
• 4:29
Yahweh's glory shall be revealed, and all flesh shall
• 4:32
see it together. For the mouth of Yahweh has
• 4:34
spoken it. The voice of one saying, Cry
• 4:36
out. One said, What shall I cry?
• 4:39
All flesh is like grass, and all its glory is like the flower of
• 4:42
the field. The grass Withers, the flower
• 4:45
fades because Yahweh's breath blows on it.
• 4:47
Surely the people are like grass.
• 4:49
The grass Withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God
• 4:52
  stands forever. Malachi, 3125.
• 4:56
World English Bible. Behold, I send my messenger, and
• 4:59
he will prepare the way before me.
• 5:01
The Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple.
• 5:05
Behold, the messenger of the covenant whom you desire is
• 5:08
coming, says Yahweh of armies. But who can endure the day of
• 5:11
his coming? And who will stand when he
• 5:13
appears? For he is like a refiner's fire
• 5:16
and like launderer's soap, and he will sit as a refiner and
• 5:19
purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and
• 5:23
refine them as gold and silver, and they shall offer to Yahweh
• 5:27
offerings in righteousness. Then the offering of Judah and
• 5:30
Jerusalem will be pleasant to Yahweh as in the days of old and
• 5:34
as in ancient years. I will come near to you to
• 5:36
judgement. I will be a swift witness
• 5:39
against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against the
• 5:42
perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his
• 5:45
wages, the widow and the fatherless, and who deprive the
• 5:48
foreigner of justice. And don't fear me, says Yahweh
• 5:51
of armies, Malachi 4. World English Bible.
• 5:55
For behold, the day comes burning like a furnace, when all
• 5:59
the proud and all who work wickedness will be stubble.
• 6:02
The day that comes will burn them up, says Yahweh of armies,
• 6:05
so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.
• 6:08
But to you who fear my name shall the Sun of Righteousness
• 6:11
arise with healing in its wings. You will go out and leap like
• 6:14
calves of the stall. You shall tread down the wicked,
• 6:17
for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet.
• 6:20
In the day that I make, says Yahweh of armies, remember the
• 6:23
law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for
• 6:27
all Israel, even statutes and ordinances.
• 6:31
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet, before the great
• 6:34
and terrible day of Yahweh comes.
• 6:36
He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the
• 6:39
hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike
• 6:42
the earth with a curse. Matthew 11, Seven to 15 World.
• 6:47
English Bible. As these went their way, Jesus
• 6:49
began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What did you go
• 6:53
out into the wilderness to see? A Reed shaken by the wind?
• 6:57
But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing?
• 7:00
Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in King's houses.
• 7:03
But why did you go out to see a prophet?
• 7:06
Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet, for this is he
• 7:10
of whom it is written. Behold, I send my messenger
• 7:13
before your face, who will prepare your way before you.
• 7:16
Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women
• 7:19
there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer.
• 7:23
Yet he who is least in the Kingdom of heaven is greater
• 7:25
than he. From the days of John the
• 7:27
Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of heaven suffers violence and
• 7:31
the violent take it by force for all the prophets in the law
• 7:35
prophesied until John. If you're willing to receive it,
• 7:38
This is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him
• 7:42
hear. Thanks for joining us on Bible
