- 0:00Speaker 1: Enemies.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Joining me now for her first interview about this investigation
- 0:03Speaker 2: is Jennifer Siebel Newsome.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Jennifer, I'm so glad you're here. This is an ordeal.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Do you have any more information about what exactly the
- 0:11Speaker 2: Justice Apartment is claiming to be looking for?
- 0:16Speaker 3: No, this is a phishing expedition. I mean, this is
- 0:20Speaker 3: typical Trump fashion, go after your enemies, and so you'd
- 0:24Speaker 3: have to ask the DOJ. But the irony is that
- 0:27Speaker 3: this all happened as I was premiering my latest documentary, Misrepresentation,
- 0:31Speaker 3: Rise Up, which looks at the marriad ways the patriarchy
- 0:37Speaker 3: conservatives harass, threaten, intimidate, and try to silence women who
- 0:43Speaker 3: speak truth to power. And the irony of all ironies
- 0:49Speaker 3: that is that life in this instance is imitating art
- 0:53Speaker 3: and it's here in front of us under Trump's leadership.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Is it having an impact on your work?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Because the investigation is allegedly looking into your nonprofit that
- 1:04Speaker 2: focuses on gender equity, How is this impacting you in
- 1:08Speaker 2: your business? Essentially?
- 1:12Speaker 3: Look, I've written, directed, and produced five documentaries that expose
- 1:17Speaker 3: harmful gender stereotypes and norms and the benefits to society
- 1:22Speaker 3: when we value women when we value the feminine, when
- 1:26Speaker 3: we help men lean into care at home.
- 1:29Speaker 1: And I will keep doing this work.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I am very proud of the work that I do.
- 1:36Speaker 3: We're making an impact in the world. The world is
- 1:40Speaker 3: better off when women are supported. Children are better off
- 1:44Speaker 3: when women's wealth, health and safety are addressed, Our communities
- 1:49Speaker 3: are healthier, and our economy thrives.
- 1:52Speaker 2: The Trump administration has been using the Department of Justice.
- 1:55Speaker 2: It's no surprise to launch investigations and prosecutions of people
- 2:00Speaker 2: that the president sees as his political opponents. But is
- 2:04Speaker 2: it true that this investigation started during the Biden administration?
- 2:12Speaker 3: You know, I don't know the details. I do know
- 2:16Speaker 3: that you know, Trump was coming after my husband when
- 2:21Speaker 3: back when Biden was was president and Biden was running
- 2:25Speaker 3: for the presidency, and I thought it was ironic. So look,
- 2:30Speaker 3: this is this is a phishing expedition. And I think
- 2:34Speaker 3: what you're saying is that it's just been going on
- 2:36Speaker 3: for a long time. My husband is Trump's most outspoken critic,
- 2:41Speaker 3: and he's the GOP's biggest you know, I don't know
- 2:48Speaker 3: they've they've always targeted my husband, and whether it's the
- 2:52Speaker 3: GOP themselves or you know, their media Empire with Rupert
- 2:58Speaker 3: Murdoch and the like. We're just, you know, kind of
- 3:01Speaker 3: sitting ducks in that regard because they think that my
- 3:04Speaker 3: husband's aspiring for the presidency and they want to silence him, and.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Therefore they go after his wife and those close to him.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Is he aspiring for the presidency?
- 3:19Speaker 3: I believe right now we are focused on California.
- 3:23Speaker 1: We've built a foundation.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I've been focused on women and children and communities.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I'm really proud of the work we're doing.
- 3:29Speaker 3: To close the women's wealth gap, the women's wage gap,
- 3:32Speaker 3: to get women on public company boards. I'm really proud
- 3:35Speaker 3: of the work we're doing with our Calkid and cal
- 3:37Speaker 3: Saber's accounts before Trump accounts, and the financial literacy that's
- 3:41Speaker 3: being man dated in all high schools. I'm just you know,
- 3:44Speaker 3: we're trying to set California up for success. We are
- 3:47Speaker 3: the fourth largest economy. Under my husband's leadership, California GDP
- 3:52Speaker 3: has surged forty percent, higher than Germany and China's faster
- 3:58Speaker 3: than the US's GDP growth. It's really exciting to be
- 4:03Speaker 3: in California. Diversity is our secret sauce.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It's what my husband and.
- 4:06Speaker 3: I stand for and represent and champion, and so I
- 4:10Speaker 3: guess in that regard we're a threat to the GOP.
- 4:16Speaker 3: But right now we're focused on California and we're focused
- 4:18Speaker 3: on saving our democracy because clearly we have an unhinged
- 4:22Speaker 3: leader who is coming at his political enemies and trying
- 4:27Speaker 3: to intimidate us all so fear distrust and chaos, and
- 4:34Speaker 3: we have to write this ship not just in our country,
- 4:38Speaker 3: but for the world. The world is looking at us,
- 4:41Speaker 3: going what is going on in America right now or
- 4:43Speaker 3: in the United States of America right now, and they're
- 4:45Speaker 3: extremely concerned and it's destabilizing. And so we have an
- 4:49Speaker 3: opportunity to write the ship again, not just in California,
- 4:53Speaker 3: but across the country and save our democracy.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Jennifer, thank you so much for joining me this morning.
- 4:57Speaker 2: It is great to see you. I appreciate your time.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Assassssssss
