- 0:05Speaker 1: Spiriting our way through another radio program known as The
- 0:09Speaker 1: Morning Show with Preston Scott. Common sense amplified in your
- 0:12Speaker 1: ears yet again, wherever, however you are listening to us,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Thank you very much for sharing time. We consider it
- 0:18Speaker 1: a privilege, and indeed it is a privilege to share
- 0:22Speaker 1: time with this lady. She is the congressional representative for
- 0:26Speaker 1: Florida's third district. US Congresswoman Kat Camick. Kat, how in
- 0:30Speaker 1: the world are you and your family?
- 0:33Speaker 2: Good morning Greens from Chiley, Washington, DC, our nation's capital,
- 0:37Speaker 2: and we're doing all right.
- 0:39Speaker 1: How are you doing, Creston, I'm doing well. We missed
- 0:42Speaker 1: our last visit because you were on the left coast.
- 0:45Speaker 1: What's it like visiting the communist Republic of California?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well, the crazy part is is that in Orange County alone,
- 0:56Speaker 2: they have more registered Republicans, I think than some states,
- 1:01Speaker 2: just in one county. But they're so outnumbered. They're basically,
- 1:05Speaker 2: you know, in their front lawns in rocks, putting so
- 1:08Speaker 2: os and you know they're doing the smoke signals please
- 1:12Speaker 2: send help. And it's crazy. It is every bit as
- 1:16Speaker 2: bad as you see on TV. We drove through an
- 1:19Speaker 2: ice protest crashed a No King's Rally while we were
- 1:24Speaker 2: out there. We've done all kinds of things. But I
- 1:28Speaker 2: think at the end of the day, and I mean
- 1:30Speaker 2: this legitimately, I think California can be saved. I really
- 1:33Speaker 2: do believe it. And if we can do that, then
- 1:37Speaker 2: anything is possible. I think the Republic has a shot.
- 1:39Speaker 2: But as things go in California, that's kind of how
- 1:42Speaker 2: the rest of the country goes. And so it's important
- 1:45Speaker 2: that we're keeping our eye not just on Florida, of
- 1:49Speaker 2: course in our backyard, but look across the country at
- 1:52Speaker 2: what's happening, because there's so many things that can happen
- 1:56Speaker 2: and impact us if we're not paying attention. So always vigilance.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We have not spoken since the shutdown really got rolling
- 2:03Speaker 1: here and unfurled. So let me get your thirty thousand
- 2:08Speaker 1: foot view of things and then tag onto that your reaction.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Ted Cruz predicted Sunday on Fox News he thinks the
- 2:18Speaker 1: shutdown will end. The Democrats will vote amazingly, interestingly enough,
- 2:22Speaker 1: coincidentally enough, once the elections end today across the country
- 2:27Speaker 1: that they'll vote to open things back up. So give
- 2:29Speaker 1: me your thoughts on all of it.
- 2:31Speaker 2: You know, I don't think anyone really knows. Candidly, I
- 2:38Speaker 2: saw a handful of my Democrat colleagues in the House
- 2:41Speaker 2: last night kind of roaming around Capitol Hill. But to
- 2:45Speaker 2: that point, I've also seen an equal number of my
- 2:47Speaker 2: Republican colleagues roaming around the Hill. Of course, I think
- 2:51Speaker 2: today's elections are going to have an impact of where
- 2:53Speaker 2: things go and the outcome of those elections. But we've
- 2:58Speaker 2: heard this since the shutdown. Again, it was Oh, we're
- 3:00Speaker 2: waiting for this moment. Then it was the No King's rally.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Then it was oh, no, we're going to wait for
- 3:05Speaker 2: November one for snap benefits to roll out. At the
- 3:10Speaker 2: end of the day, the only thing that people need
- 3:12Speaker 2: to really understand is that the Democrats, particularly in the Senate,
- 3:17Speaker 2: are willing to starve Americans, and they are willing to
- 3:22Speaker 2: shut down the government, hold hostage the government for a
- 3:26Speaker 2: one point five trillion dollars shakedown with the highlight, the
- 3:31Speaker 2: highlight of the whole thing being free healthcare to the
- 3:33Speaker 2: tune of two hundred million dollars to illegals. That's what
- 3:36Speaker 2: it is. They're willing to put American glass to keep
- 3:40Speaker 2: illegals first. That's what it comes down to, and they
- 3:43Speaker 2: can't run away from their record, and they can't run
- 3:46Speaker 2: away from the fact that they are demanding these things.
- 3:50Speaker 2: It's in black and white, page fifty seven, section twenty
- 3:52Speaker 2: one to forty one, where they are demanding premium healthcare
- 3:56Speaker 2: for illegals. And at the end of the day, they
- 3:59Speaker 2: really can't say that they didn't vote to shut the
- 4:03Speaker 2: government down, that they're keeping the shut it down. They did,
- 4:06Speaker 2: and they're going to have to answer for that. So
- 4:09Speaker 2: it'll be interesting to see.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Kat. I want to pick up on this Obamacare subsidy
- 4:14Speaker 1: issue a little bit more because I've been trying to
- 4:16Speaker 1: remind everybody on this program as often as possible that
- 4:21Speaker 1: this is a problem created in part. If we set
- 4:25Speaker 1: aside the Supreme Court ruling, which was ridiculous that allowed
- 4:28Speaker 1: it in the first place, this is still, if not
- 4:32Speaker 1: the most subsidized healthcare program or program of any kind
- 4:36Speaker 1: that government has out there. It is now the additional
- 4:40Speaker 1: subsidies that we're talking about, which are in the grand
- 4:42Speaker 1: scheme of things minuscule that they're doing this for. And
- 4:47Speaker 1: this was all authored by Democrats. They put the COVID
- 4:50Speaker 1: subsidies in place, they put the expiration date in place.
- 4:54Speaker 1: This is their program, this is their baby. They own
- 4:57Speaker 1: all of this.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, let us not forget that it was
- 5:02Speaker 2: in fact the Democrats that obviously created Obamacare. We all
- 5:05Speaker 2: remember that. And then through the years they have continued
- 5:10Speaker 2: to increase the cost of the program. As healthcare quality
- 5:14Speaker 2: has gone down, access has been more restricted than ever.
- 5:19Speaker 2: And the answer that the Left has is throw more
- 5:22Speaker 2: money at it, Throw more money at a broken program
- 5:25Speaker 2: that perpetuates a sick care system. That's really what it was.
- 5:29Speaker 2: And we said back then, you know, twenty ten, twenty eleven,
- 5:33Speaker 2: twenty twelve, twenty thirteen, all those times you said, this
- 5:36Speaker 2: is just a stepping stone to single payer systems.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Absolutely, this is where they.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Want to head to. They want socialized medicine. And then
- 5:43Speaker 2: they'll always point to Canada. Of course, I always have
- 5:46Speaker 2: to then remind them that Canadians are the ones that
- 5:48Speaker 2: are coming to the United States for their procedures because
- 5:50Speaker 2: they can't get them in Canada. You know, you look
- 5:54Speaker 2: at the UK that everyone has a private plan on
- 5:57Speaker 2: top of their subsidized plan because it is such a
- 6:00Speaker 2: broken system. But the thing is, if you just look
- 6:04Speaker 2: at the politics of what is going on here, because
- 6:07Speaker 2: part of what this shakedown is is four hundred billion
- 6:10Speaker 2: dollars not to people, but to insurance companies. Insurance companies,
- 6:15Speaker 2: by the way, that are making two hundred and thirty
- 6:18Speaker 2: seven percent profits. That's what they logged last year. And
- 6:21Speaker 2: so I cannot anything good conscience vote to throw more
- 6:27Speaker 2: money at a broken system that is literally propped up
- 6:31Speaker 2: by insurance companies that God bless them, they're they're making
- 6:36Speaker 2: an incredible amount of money, and yet premiums are still
- 6:39Speaker 2: going to increase, and so it is something that we
- 6:42Speaker 2: have to get fixed, because single payer isn't the answer.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Throwing money a broken system isn't the answer. There are
- 6:49Speaker 2: real reforms that we could do to bring down those costs,
- 6:52Speaker 2: but the Democrats don't want to hear it because they
- 6:54Speaker 2: would have to admit that Obamacare or the Affordable Care
- 6:58Speaker 2: Act isn't so affordable. It's actually unaffordable, and it's a
- 7:02Speaker 2: broken system with worse outcomes. And they set this whole
- 7:05Speaker 2: thing up. They couldn't make them permanent, the payments, the
- 7:08Speaker 2: subsidies to insurance companies permanent. They set up this deadline.
- 7:12Speaker 2: It's totally artificial and concocted by the Democrats. So this
- 7:16Speaker 2: is a crisis of their own making and they're leaving
- 7:19Speaker 2: it to us to fix it. But we actually have
- 7:21Speaker 2: to get the government hoping in order to do that.
- 7:23Speaker 1: One of the things we've talked about this morning is
- 7:26Speaker 1: Center for Immigration Studies talked about the numbers of the
- 7:29Speaker 1: illegal immigrants that are on one form of a US
- 7:34Speaker 1: subsidy or another, and they estimates fifty nine percent of
- 7:37Speaker 1: illegal alien led households are using one or more welfare program.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I likened it to break it into your house, taking
- 7:44Speaker 1: up a room in the spare bedroom and using all
- 7:47Speaker 1: of your resources in your home and not being charged
- 7:51Speaker 1: for it. This is absurd what's going on. But yet
- 7:56Speaker 1: we don't see an end to what to me is
- 8:00Speaker 1: low hanging fruit. Just stop giving them benefits. Why are
- 8:03Speaker 1: the Democrats so insistent? Is it the victim class that
- 8:06Speaker 1: they need for voters?
- 8:09Speaker 2: Well, I mean it makes you this is one of
- 8:12Speaker 2: those things that again you put it all together and
- 8:14Speaker 2: it just kind of makes you cock your head a
- 8:15Speaker 2: little bit and say huh, Because let us not forget
- 8:18Speaker 2: it wasn't too long ago that Nancy Pelosi had made
- 8:21Speaker 2: HR one I believe of the one hundred and seventeenth Congress,
- 8:25Speaker 2: which was the first year that I got in, which
- 8:28Speaker 2: was twenty twenty one, to serve. They made the number
- 8:33Speaker 2: one priority of the Democrat agenda for those two years.
- 8:37Speaker 2: For the one hundred and seventeen Congress. They made before
- 8:40Speaker 2: the Politicians Act hr one, And what it did was
- 8:44Speaker 2: it completely eliminated voter ID in order to vote, no
- 8:50Speaker 2: mention of having to be a citizen. They wanted publicly
- 8:54Speaker 2: funded campaigns, so six to one match, so you and
- 8:57Speaker 2: I would be on the hook to finance AOC or
- 8:59Speaker 2: Bernie Sam campaigns and match small dollar donations. It was
- 9:05Speaker 2: an absolute play in order to make it legal for
- 9:10Speaker 2: non legal individuals to vote. And then you couple that
- 9:14Speaker 2: with open borders and you start to say, well, they've
- 9:17Speaker 2: got the borders wide open, they don't want voter ID,
- 9:20Speaker 2: they're giving away all these programs. What is it that
- 9:23Speaker 2: they're after? And I come back to this time and
- 9:25Speaker 2: time again. This is not a conspiracy and there's not
- 9:28Speaker 2: a single policy that the Left is holding up. It
- 9:30Speaker 2: is a combination of things that add up to one mission,
- 9:33Speaker 2: and that mission is dependency and control. The Left has
- 9:36Speaker 2: always been about growing the size of government to make
- 9:39Speaker 2: people dependent on government programs so that they the big
- 9:42Speaker 2: government program advocates stay in charge. And they started seeing
- 9:46Speaker 2: people waking up around the country with the election of
- 9:49Speaker 2: President Trump and saying, we don't like this big government
- 9:52Speaker 2: thing that tells us how we're going to live our
- 9:53Speaker 2: lives and then make us pay for it. Right, So
- 9:56Speaker 2: they just import their voters and you see it in
- 9:59Speaker 2: states and cities across the country. Dependency and control. That's
- 10:03Speaker 2: what's always been about.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Back with you, as congress Woman Cat Camick, and I
- 10:10Speaker 1: promised discipline, and so I want to stay with a
- 10:13Speaker 1: topic that I know is very important to you, Cat,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and it is something I talked about last week and
- 10:20Speaker 1: it is from zero Hedge, And the question is what
- 10:24Speaker 1: can we do about the agrarian collapse? And the argument
- 10:28Speaker 1: being made is it's you got to support the local farms,
- 10:31Speaker 1: you got to support the farmers' markets, et cetera, et cetera.
- 10:33Speaker 1: But the federal government, whether we like it or not,
- 10:37Speaker 1: has to play a role in saving small farms. And
- 10:40Speaker 1: the question is is there any any discussion in Congress
- 10:46Speaker 1: to help save small farms in this country?
- 10:50Speaker 2: Who I'm going to try to be as concise as
- 10:53Speaker 2: humanly possible. And if I'm out of breathas because I
- 10:55Speaker 2: was just dancing for the baby, making her smile. So
- 11:00Speaker 2: a couple things here. Yes, the Farm Bill, which happens
- 11:03Speaker 2: every five years, that is a huge part of establishing
- 11:07Speaker 2: certainty in the AG community. The problem is is that
- 11:10Speaker 2: we've got chicken craft politicians that won't advance a bill
- 11:13Speaker 2: that is actually for our producers, for our farmers and ranchers.
- 11:18Speaker 2: They're more concerned about rocking the boat. Because eighty three
- 11:21Speaker 2: percent of the Farm Bill is the SNAP and EDT program.
- 11:26Speaker 2: The nutritional side is married to the actual food production side,
- 11:31Speaker 2: and that is a and that has been a longstanding
- 11:35Speaker 2: thing with the Farm bill. And so there's things within
- 11:37Speaker 2: the Farm Bill that, of course are meant to support
- 11:39Speaker 2: our producers. But when you look at input costs across
- 11:43Speaker 2: the board, you're seeing high diesel, high fertilizer, labor costs,
- 11:50Speaker 2: lack of labor. We aren't at a place where you
- 11:52Speaker 2: can mechanize everything across the board. And the regulatory regime,
- 11:57Speaker 2: the regulatory regime, and this is not just for AG
- 11:59Speaker 2: but the entire economy of the United States, that is
- 12:04Speaker 2: what is going to either make or break us because
- 12:07Speaker 2: as taxpayers were paying two point five trillion dollars every
- 12:10Speaker 2: year in enforcement and compliance of regulations, and those regulations
- 12:14Speaker 2: are strangling us. They are literally crushing us. If we're
- 12:18Speaker 2: going to survive as a republic for the next two
- 12:20Speaker 2: hundred and fifty years, we have to have a major
- 12:22Speaker 2: overhaul of the regulatory regime. That is, in fact, how
- 12:25Speaker 2: you drain the swamp. And in the ag industry, you
- 12:28Speaker 2: have a crushing amount of regulation that make absolutely no sense.
- 12:33Speaker 2: It doesn't make food any safer, it doesn't improve anything. Really,
- 12:37Speaker 2: it's just giving jobs to bureaucrats that are sitting on
- 12:40Speaker 2: their hands. So you have that element. Another part of
- 12:44Speaker 2: it is I dropped a bill called the f FA Act,
- 12:48Speaker 2: a nod to the future farmers of America. The farms
- 12:51Speaker 2: are going under, but what it stands for is farmers
- 12:54Speaker 2: feeding Americans. If you are on snap and EBT and
- 12:58Speaker 2: you're using taxpayer dollars in order to purchase your food,
- 13:01Speaker 2: it should be American food that you're consuming, So not
- 13:04Speaker 2: any of the imported fruits and vegetables from Mexico or
- 13:07Speaker 2: Canada or anywhere else abroad. It should be domestic produced fruits, vegetables,
- 13:12Speaker 2: dairy products, meats, things like that. And when I went
- 13:16Speaker 2: to the USDA to get the data of how much
- 13:18Speaker 2: of the food we're importing is going towards the SNAP programs,
- 13:22Speaker 2: guess what, they wouldn't give it to me. And then
- 13:26Speaker 2: the grocers didn't want to give me that information. And
- 13:29Speaker 2: everyone is up in arms saying we can't do this,
- 13:31Speaker 2: and I'm saying we have to do this because a
- 13:34Speaker 2: nation that can't feed itself is not secure.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Absolutely, it's very close.
- 13:37Speaker 2: To teetering on the edge of not being able to
- 13:39Speaker 2: feed ourselves because they're all going under.
- 13:42Speaker 1: At the end of this particular piece, they offer this
- 13:46Speaker 1: Fanny May and Freddie Mack allow first time home buyers
- 13:49Speaker 1: to purchase homes with as little as three percent down.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Veterans can access zero percent down, no mortgage insurance, and
- 13:55Speaker 1: low interest rates. As a society, we've decided that helping
- 13:59Speaker 1: families in veterans is worth supporting with government backed loans.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Why don't we have a product like this for farmland.
- 14:07Speaker 2: That's one of the things that I've been meeting with
- 14:10Speaker 2: a lot of young farmers around not just our state,
- 14:14Speaker 2: but the country. It is virtually impossible to compete now
- 14:19Speaker 2: with the high price of land because the final crop
- 14:22Speaker 2: in Florida is looking more and more like it's going
- 14:24Speaker 2: to be a housing development. Right, We've got multi generational
- 14:29Speaker 2: family operations where one of the kids is now turning
- 14:32Speaker 2: into a real estate agent or a broker and selling
- 14:35Speaker 2: off pieces of the family farm. Because why wouldn't you
- 14:39Speaker 2: do that when you can get fifty thousand an acre
- 14:42Speaker 2: for a developer from a developer versus all the input
- 14:46Speaker 2: costs and labor just to break even or even take
- 14:48Speaker 2: a loss if you are going to farm that acre.
- 14:53Speaker 2: It's a sad state of affairs. But I agree with you.
- 14:55Speaker 2: We have to do something pretty radical if we're going
- 14:58Speaker 2: to turn this around. And I do think you're one
- 15:00Speaker 2: hundred percent right, there needs to be some acknowledgment and
- 15:04Speaker 2: adjustment in the program. I don't want more money going
- 15:08Speaker 2: towards spending on this because we just crossed over into
- 15:11Speaker 2: the thirty eight trillion dollars threshold of national debts. But
- 15:15Speaker 2: we should be able to reshuffle and make it so
- 15:19Speaker 2: that there is a way for young farmers and ranchers
- 15:23Speaker 2: to actually purchase farmland and make it productive. Right, they
- 15:27Speaker 2: have to actually they have to put it into production.
- 15:31Speaker 2: But it should be a lot easier than it is now,
- 15:32Speaker 2: because right now it is virtually impossible.
- 15:35Speaker 1: You're the best, Kat, Thanks very much, and I hope
- 15:39Speaker 1: we'll get a chance to talk again this month. If not,
- 15:41Speaker 1: Happy Thanksgiving, appreciates.
- 15:43Speaker 2: It so much. Happy Thanksgiving and appreciate the time as always.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Thank you. Kat Camick with US US Congress Wring from
- 15:51Speaker 1: third Congressional District of the Sunshine State, our guest twice monthly. Again,
- 15:55Speaker 1: we're hoping for another visit this month, but sometimes things happen,
- 15:58Speaker 1: so we'll have to see how the month unfolds. It's
- 16:00Speaker 1: The Morning Show with Preston Scott m
