- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. Oh yeah, at that time of the year,
- 0:19Speaker 1: it is Pro day season. That is CJ. Stroud fourteen
- 0:24Speaker 1: buck guys working out today. You are looking at Columbus
- 0:29Speaker 1: where the NFL world has descended to see among others,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Jackson Smith in JIGBA and our own Steve Smith. Love
- 0:39Speaker 1: to be a fly on the wall in that conversation,
- 0:41Speaker 1: Not that you want to be a fly on the
- 0:42Speaker 1: wall in a locker room, but you get my points.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Steve Smith there as part of our NFL Network NFL
- 0:46Speaker 1: Plus con coverage. You see Rick Spielman, their former vikings
- 0:50Speaker 1: GM in the background. Zach Taylor made the short drive
- 0:54Speaker 1: up from Cincinnati to Columbus. We have the likes of
- 0:57Speaker 1: Mike Vrabel and Mike Tomlin and Pete Carroll and GM's
- 1:02Speaker 1: like Ryan Poles and He Loomis and yes, basically Annie
- 1:08Speaker 1: and everyone employed by the Carolina Panthers who are picking
- 1:11Speaker 1: number one overall all there to see a quarterback who
- 1:15Speaker 1: could be number one overall in CJ. Stroud and all
- 1:19Speaker 1: kinds of NFL talent, because Ohio State is pretty good
- 1:24Speaker 1: at that. It's a big week here in NFL Network.
- 1:26Speaker 1: This is NFL Now. I'm Andrew Siciliano. This right here
- 1:30Speaker 1: from The Move, the sixth podcast, from all our great
- 1:32Speaker 1: draft coverage. Well just general men of many hats, not
- 1:35Speaker 1: wearing one today is Bucky Brooks, Good to see you.
- 1:38Speaker 1: What's up? What's up? Drew? Big day? Ohio State Pro Day.
- 1:41Speaker 1: We got quarterbacks, we got everything that everyone wants to see.
- 1:44Speaker 1: We have a quarterback man. It perks up the interest.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Everyone's excited to see. Strout to listen. We're not taking
- 1:50Speaker 1: away from any of the other pro days we've had
- 1:52Speaker 1: so far. Obviously, we had Sherry Burris at Georgia Pro Day.
- 1:56Speaker 1: That was big. We had Oregon Pro Day last week,
- 1:58Speaker 1: we had usc Pro Day yesterday. Cam Newton throwing at
- 2:02Speaker 1: Auburn Pro Day yesterday is well, that's a story just
- 2:06Speaker 1: in and of itself. But this is when it really
- 2:10Speaker 1: ratchets up a notch, not just because of all the
- 2:12Speaker 1: talent there, right and CJ. Stroud isn't the only first
- 2:16Speaker 1: round talent or draftable talent there, but this is where
- 2:20Speaker 1: we get into the conversation about the number one overall pick.
- 2:23Speaker 1: We saw CJ. Stroud throw seemingly effortlessly in Indianapolis at
- 2:29Speaker 1: the combine like a picture, a picture rather with perfect mechanics. Yes,
- 2:33Speaker 1: what do you want to see today from his what's
- 2:36Speaker 1: scheduled to be fifty five throw workout more the same
- 2:39Speaker 1: like this is a dress rehearsal. So this should be
- 2:41Speaker 1: easy for CJ. Stroud. This is something that he has
- 2:44Speaker 1: been doing all of his life in terms of just
- 2:46Speaker 1: throwing pitch and cash to his playmakers on the outside. Well,
- 2:49Speaker 1: this should be flawless today when you think about being
- 2:51Speaker 1: at Ohio State, going to his own receivers, being able
- 2:54Speaker 1: to really cut it loose in a script that he designed.
- 2:57Speaker 1: This should be just kind of like the finishing touches,
- 3:00Speaker 1: a reminder of how talented he is as a passer,
- 3:03Speaker 1: how easy it is for him him to make all
- 3:05Speaker 1: of the throws, and what he could be at the
- 3:08Speaker 1: next level when you have the right coach and the
- 3:10Speaker 1: right system really play into his strimps as a playmaker
- 3:13Speaker 1: from the pocket. Well, let's talk about what is designed
- 3:16Speaker 1: and Tom Pella Sera Bucky was talking about this a
- 3:18Speaker 1: little bit this morning on GMFB. CJ Stroud the best
- 3:22Speaker 1: we've seen of c J. Stroud. This is not to
- 3:24Speaker 1: takeaway from his entire Ohio State career. But the best
- 3:26Speaker 1: we've seen of him was in that National Championship semi
- 3:29Speaker 1: final game of New Year's Eve against Georgia, where he
- 3:32Speaker 1: got out of the pocket, he made throws on the run.
- 3:34Speaker 1: He hit that ball in the back of the end
- 3:35Speaker 1: zone where he went wow, moving to his right, and
- 3:38Speaker 1: he admitted at the combine that maybe not just against Georgia,
- 3:41Speaker 1: but maybe overall in Columbus he should have run more.
- 3:46Speaker 1: So considering that, considering what everyone loved about the Georgia game,
- 3:50Speaker 1: how do you design that workout to accentuate those skills
- 3:54Speaker 1: because you're throwing routes on air? Yeah, I mean I
- 3:58Speaker 1: think the big thing for c J. Strout is, Yeah,
- 4:00Speaker 1: he can put some of the movement based things in there.
- 4:02Speaker 1: They can put him on the move, They can do
- 4:04Speaker 1: some career created second reaction throws where he drops back
- 4:07Speaker 1: and he scrambles. He shows people that they can throw
- 4:09Speaker 1: running to his right into his left. But I think
- 4:11Speaker 1: the bigger thing has to be understanding. Okay, what was
- 4:15Speaker 1: different about the Georgia game. Why did you move and
- 4:17Speaker 1: show the athleticism a little more in that game as
- 4:20Speaker 1: opposed to previous games, asking Ryan Day, did you guys
- 4:23Speaker 1: do something differently? I think a lot of us have
- 4:25Speaker 1: to understand at the college game, it's about your starting quarterback,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and so maybe Ohio State didn't put him in harm's
- 4:32Speaker 1: way because they didn't like what they had as a
- 4:34Speaker 1: backup quarterback. This is a team that had national title aspirations,
- 4:38Speaker 1: and so some of the answers that will get from
- 4:40Speaker 1: c J. Strauss pro day will be behind the scenes
- 4:43Speaker 1: in interviews. But a lot of what we want to
- 4:45Speaker 1: see is let's see him throwing a move. Let's see
- 4:47Speaker 1: him continue to dazzle us with his arm talent. He
- 4:50Speaker 1: is one of the more natural thors that we've seen,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and he has a plus arm talent. Let's see him
- 4:54Speaker 1: short off. And again, he's not the only would be
- 4:56Speaker 1: first round pick who's working out there or would be first,
- 4:59Speaker 1: or second or third. Again, there's a long list of
- 5:01Speaker 1: talent throwing the screen. If we can the Buckeyes schedule
- 5:05Speaker 1: to work out today. Obviously c J. Stroud there would
- 5:08Speaker 1: be number one overall pick. We have Jackson Smith and
- 5:11Speaker 1: Jigba as well. We have Paris Johnson, we have to
- 5:15Speaker 1: wand Jones to a great right side of that offensive
- 5:18Speaker 1: line while the two tackles there, one guy could play
- 5:20Speaker 1: inside as well depending on the next level. Roddy Hickman,
- 5:23Speaker 1: the defensive back, is working out. All in all, their
- 5:25Speaker 1: fourteen Buckeyes are going to be at the facility today.
- 5:29Speaker 1: A couple of other guys working out as well, like
- 5:33Speaker 1: Alan Smith, that running back on the bottom played at Brown,
- 5:37Speaker 1: but he's local. Kelly Garanson is actually the quarterback on
- 5:41Speaker 1: the Olhio State club team. He is working out today
- 5:44Speaker 1: as a defensive back. I mean, that would be an
- 5:47Speaker 1: amazing pro Day story if the club team quarterback somehow
- 5:50Speaker 1: caught the eye of an NFL scout or caught the
- 5:53Speaker 1: eye of James Palmer, who let's see, I believe Ohio
- 5:55Speaker 1: State class of two thousand and five? Am I right?
- 5:58Speaker 1: James in attend that's correct? And six Andrew, I try
- 6:02Speaker 1: to stay as long as I could. Yeah wait, wait,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you graduated twice, certainly did b a nabs Andrew As
- 6:10Speaker 1: we want to talk about my academic achievements at the
- 6:12Speaker 1: Ohio State University. But I'll transition this listen. Let me
- 6:17Speaker 1: let me Yeah, we got a transition away from this
- 6:20Speaker 1: in terms of what I did here academically a long
- 6:23Speaker 1: time ago, and what these guys are doing physically on
- 6:25Speaker 1: the field. Behind me, let me run through what we've
- 6:27Speaker 1: seen already. With one hundred and eighteen NFL personnel here
- 6:31Speaker 1: in attendance, you have ten general managers, seven head coaches, Saul,
- 6:35Speaker 1: Frank Wrych and CJ. Stroud. I believe one has the
- 6:38Speaker 1: number one pick. One could be the number one pick
- 6:40Speaker 1: chopping it up over there while Paris Johnson was going
- 6:42Speaker 1: through his drills on the offensive line. Now, you mentioned
- 6:47Speaker 1: a couple of other players that we've seen throughout this,
- 6:49Speaker 1: but Jackson, Smith and Jigba. In terms of what we've
- 6:51Speaker 1: accomplished already, it was one of the biggest things we saw,
- 6:53Speaker 1: and that was him running the forty. Remember at the
- 6:55Speaker 1: combine he did not run the forty, but he was
- 6:57Speaker 1: the fastest guy there in terms of the three cone
- 7:00Speaker 1: and the twenty yard shuttle. He ran the forty here
- 7:03Speaker 1: he looked good in terms of talking to scouts that
- 7:05Speaker 1: I had a chance to interact with Andrew, and when
- 7:07Speaker 1: you get a chance to see it, they all were
- 7:09Speaker 1: impressed with the way he moved. Now, I've seen times
- 7:11Speaker 1: from anywhere at the high four fours to the low
- 7:15Speaker 1: four fives, and that was where everybody thought he was
- 7:17Speaker 1: going to run. Some people within the program here at
- 7:19Speaker 1: Ohio State hoped that he was going to run in
- 7:21Speaker 1: the four fours, and they've seen him run the fourth
- 7:23Speaker 1: furs recently. But there was also talking to coaches throughout
- 7:28Speaker 1: the last hour Andrew not a lot of concern over
- 7:30Speaker 1: the forty time. It's how he plays the game, how
- 7:33Speaker 1: savvy he is, how cerebral he is. His football intelligence
- 7:37Speaker 1: is through the roof, his ability to work the middle
- 7:40Speaker 1: of the field out of the slot. As one offensive
- 7:42Speaker 1: coordinator told me, he just gets open and he's open
- 7:44Speaker 1: all the time. So there isn't a lot of concern
- 7:46Speaker 1: about that forty. They just want to see him run
- 7:48Speaker 1: in all right, what else are we gonna see? We
- 7:50Speaker 1: mentioned CJ. Strout throwing a fifty five throw at least
- 7:54Speaker 1: for now scripted workout that's due to start at roughly
- 7:57Speaker 1: to eastern right, it is, and that's gonna be the
- 8:02Speaker 1: first time we get a chance to see c. J.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Strout anything really at this prote He's been in his
- 8:06Speaker 1: sweats the entire time, outside of getting weighed in and
- 8:09Speaker 1: getting his height measured. He hasn't participated in anything else,
- 8:12Speaker 1: but I will tell you this, he is the guy
- 8:14Speaker 1: front and center during every single bench press, every single
- 8:17Speaker 1: forty as Paris Johnson was going through his drills, he
- 8:20Speaker 1: was the guy right up in front, cheering on all
- 8:22Speaker 1: of his teammates, being a very active participant, even though
- 8:25Speaker 1: he hasn't done anything yet. You mentioned that fifty five
- 8:28Speaker 1: throwing session that he's gonna have. Now keep an eye
- 8:31Speaker 1: on how much he moves during that throwing session. I
- 8:34Speaker 1: heard Bucky breaking it down that obviously everybody knows about
- 8:36Speaker 1: the Georgia game the way he moved so well then,
- 8:38Speaker 1: but he didn't do it really when he was at
- 8:40Speaker 1: Ohio State. He said at the combine that he kind
- 8:42Speaker 1: of regretted that he didn't move more when he played
- 8:44Speaker 1: the quarterback position at Ohio State. So look for him
- 8:47Speaker 1: to try to go out here and show some of
- 8:49Speaker 1: that athleticism to some of these evaluators. There's no questions
- 8:53Speaker 1: in terms of how he is as a passer. But lastly,
- 8:55Speaker 1: I will give you this, he spent a lot of
- 8:56Speaker 1: time obviously with the Panthers. He's going to spend time
- 8:59Speaker 1: with other guys. As Bucky mentioned, getting to know him personally,
- 9:02Speaker 1: spending time with him as a big part of this.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I'll tell you there are a few teams Andrew that
- 9:06Speaker 1: sat down with him at the Combine that we're very
- 9:08Speaker 1: impressed with his makeup. Bucky knows this. You're challenged a
- 9:11Speaker 1: lot of times in those meetings. He barked back at
- 9:14Speaker 1: some teams. He challenged them back. A lot of teams
- 9:16Speaker 1: liked his makeup in terms of his aggressiveness in those meetings.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Teams will have some chances to do that. After he
- 9:21Speaker 1: throws in a little bit and no Ohio state quarterback
- 9:23Speaker 1: has gone number one overall, it has never happened. CJ.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Strout could be the first. He would be the fifth
- 9:29Speaker 1: Buckeye to go number one overall, regardless of position, in
- 9:33Speaker 1: the first since Hall of Famer or Orlando Pace. Pretty good,
- 9:39Speaker 1: James Palmer, there are boots of Sandusky. Yes, prior to Sandusky,
- 9:44Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, you saw James wearing the fancy new
- 9:47Speaker 1: NFL plus quarter zip. Why because if you want to
- 9:51Speaker 1: see c J. Strout throw, if you want to see
- 9:54Speaker 1: all fifty five throws, you need NFL Plus. They're gonna
- 9:58Speaker 1: be live at two pm Eastern time with CJ. Strout throwing.
- 10:02Speaker 1: These are path to the Draft road Day specials. We
- 10:06Speaker 1: got another one tomorrow, Bryce Young throwing he didn't grow
- 10:10Speaker 1: at the Combine, and then Will Levis on Friday, and
- 10:12Speaker 1: then Anthony richardson next week. They are all on NFL Plus.
- 10:16Speaker 1: If you do not yet have NFL Plus, we can't
- 10:19Speaker 1: promise you the James Palmer quarter zip, but we can
- 10:22Speaker 1: promise you these quarterbacks throwing if you sign up right now.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Brian Baldinger has his verified NFL Plus account. He joins
- 10:33Speaker 1: US Live now as well. Baldy, great to have you.
- 10:36Speaker 1: What do you want to see today from Stroud? Well,
- 10:40Speaker 1: I want to know just how big the gent was
- 10:42Speaker 1: that the Carolina Panthers chartered to bring all their staff,
- 10:46Speaker 1: their secretaries, like the entire front office to go watch CJ.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Stroud today. That's one. Now I want to watch CJ.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Stroud throw too, Jackson Smith and Jigbu. I mean, this guy,
- 10:58Speaker 1: is you go back to twenty twenty one before the
- 11:00Speaker 1: hamstring injury. This year just go plug in the Rose
- 11:04Speaker 1: Bowl against you tall and it's just an amazing It's
- 11:08Speaker 1: just it looks like it's just a warm up for
- 11:11Speaker 1: the scouch to what they did in the Rose Bowl
- 11:13Speaker 1: that day, and so just see the connection that they have.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I'd love to see that today. I want to just see.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I want to stand next to Dawan Jones and just see.
- 11:23Speaker 1: It's just this a flying Pacific manta. Is there any
- 11:27Speaker 1: way to get through him or around him? At right tackle?
- 11:30Speaker 1: He might be one of the largest human beings walking
- 11:33Speaker 1: the planet today and yet can still play and punch
- 11:37Speaker 1: and jam and almost unbeatable. And so I want to see,
- 11:41Speaker 1: you know, the safety Ronnie Hickman. I'd like to see
- 11:43Speaker 1: him run today because you look at that twenty twenty
- 11:46Speaker 1: one tape lad the Buckeyes and tackles, he looks like
- 11:49Speaker 1: what you want at safety in the NFL right now.
- 11:52Speaker 1: By the way, Dawan Jones did check in at six
- 11:55Speaker 1: eight four, so six eight and four eighth, so six
- 11:58Speaker 1: eight and a half today he's big. Yeah. And you
- 12:02Speaker 1: talk about those guys, everyone's gonna talk about the quarterback,
- 12:04Speaker 1: But when you really look at it, Hire your state
- 12:06Speaker 1: has a bunch of guys that you want to check out.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Paris Johnson Junior, d one Joe. You want to see
- 12:10Speaker 1: those guys and see what they look like, because we
- 12:13Speaker 1: know a Paris Shownson junior. You could be in the
- 12:15Speaker 1: first round, but what about the one? Where does he
- 12:16Speaker 1: go in that mix? And so this is a terrific
- 12:19Speaker 1: opportunity for JSN Enigma to continue to show people that
- 12:23Speaker 1: maybe he's the number one receiver in the class. So
- 12:26Speaker 1: there's a lot at stake today at the pro day.
- 12:29Speaker 1: That's why you want to check it out all right again,
- 12:31Speaker 1: c J. Stroud on the field coming up in roughly
- 12:34Speaker 1: forty five minutes at two pm Eastern time, NFL Plus.
- 12:38Speaker 1: You need it for the full coverage. Thank you, Bucky,
- 12:41Speaker 1: Thank you Baldy. Both back coming up at a second
- 12:43Speaker 1: of the meantime. I want to work in some normal
- 12:45Speaker 1: NFL nowl content if you will. Ian Rappaport is our
- 12:48Speaker 1: NFL Network insider high there. Ian Baldy made the joke
- 12:51Speaker 1: about how big of a plane they had to charter
- 12:53Speaker 1: to get everyone there. Carolina has eleven representatives there including
- 13:00Speaker 1: the owner. Oh yeah, I mean. And one way to
- 13:04Speaker 1: know that the Carolina Panthers are doing this thorough doing
- 13:07Speaker 1: this properly, is that basically the entire building is there.
- 13:10Speaker 1: To go out with c J. Strout to me with
- 13:12Speaker 1: him before the Pro day to watch him extremely closely
- 13:15Speaker 1: during the pro day to evaluate the throws and all
- 13:17Speaker 1: of that. But of course that is not all they
- 13:19Speaker 1: are going to do, is they try to figure out
- 13:21Speaker 1: who is going to be their number one pick. They're
- 13:23Speaker 1: also going to bring them to a top thirty visit
- 13:25Speaker 1: in to Carolina, and they're going to do this with
- 13:27Speaker 1: all of the top quarterbacks. My understanding of where the
- 13:30Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers are is they really like CJ. Strout, really
- 13:33Speaker 1: like Pryce Young. At least one other quarterback, presumably that
- 13:36Speaker 1: would be Anthony Richardson, but we don't know for sure
- 13:39Speaker 1: for sure, those would be the guys in consideration for
- 13:42Speaker 1: the number one overall pick. They like these quarterbacks. They
- 13:45Speaker 1: are convicted on these quarterbacks. They are going to visit
- 13:47Speaker 1: with them all before the Pro day. They're gonna visit
- 13:50Speaker 1: with them all at the facility and then get to
- 13:52Speaker 1: a point where at some point they stack them and
- 13:54Speaker 1: compare them and see who do they like the most.
- 13:57Speaker 1: If they like one head and shoulders above all else,
- 13:59Speaker 1: they would just pick that person. If they like two,
- 14:02Speaker 1: maybe three the same, then a trade down possible. He
- 14:05Speaker 1: comes back in the picture for the Carolina Panthers, all right,
- 14:07Speaker 1: and the thought is again that this big contingent moves
- 14:09Speaker 1: on to Tuscaloosa, Damar to see Bryce Petty. So everyone going,
- 14:12Speaker 1: oh my god, they have a loving people there immediate. CJ. Stroud. CJ.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Stroud is the first of the big four in this
- 14:19Speaker 1: group of quarterbacks to have their workout and Carolina today
- 14:23Speaker 1: is well represented. And you have some news of a
- 14:26Speaker 1: veteran quarterback, Russell Wilson surgery news this morning. Tell me
- 14:31Speaker 1: about that. Yeah, pretty quietly. Russell Wilson, dever Bronco starting
- 14:35Speaker 1: quarterback who hopes to rebound for the twenty twenty three season,
- 14:39Speaker 1: had surgery arthroscopic surgery following this past season. Pretty minded
- 14:43Speaker 1: procedure and really not something that was related to this
- 14:46Speaker 1: past season. It's something that's actually been nagging him for
- 14:49Speaker 1: a couple of seasons. Surgery went well, he has been throwing,
- 14:53Speaker 1: he has been working out. It actually sounds like he
- 14:55Speaker 1: is doing extremely well, in really good shape, and I
- 14:58Speaker 1: know that was a little bit of a sort of
- 15:00Speaker 1: an issue last year. He has slimmed down a little bit,
- 15:02Speaker 1: looking good. Russell Wilson hope to have a bounce back
- 15:06Speaker 1: year this coming year. Having no payment his the no
- 15:09Speaker 1: lingering issues is something they believe will help as he
- 15:12Speaker 1: tries to put his best foot forward under Sean paty
- 15:14Speaker 1: Ian Cam Newton try to put his best foot forward
- 15:16Speaker 1: wearing some Auburn colored zoobas yesterday as he worked out
- 15:22Speaker 1: at Auburn Pro Day. Anything going to come from that?
- 15:27Speaker 1: Hard to imagine something comes. I would never say never,
- 15:30Speaker 1: but I just I haven't sensed a lot of interest
- 15:32Speaker 1: in Cam Newton as an NFL quarterback really since the
- 15:35Speaker 1: last time he was on the field, looking, you know,
- 15:37Speaker 1: like someone maybe who's best years we're behind him. And
- 15:40Speaker 1: Cam Newton has been awesome. He is one of the
- 15:43Speaker 1: greatest quarterbacks of a generation. He is a transformative figure
- 15:46Speaker 1: and you see so many quarterbacks doing now what he
- 15:50Speaker 1: first did about ten years ago. But I just don't
- 15:53Speaker 1: get the sense that there's anything now or in the
- 15:55Speaker 1: future for him. Instead, really what he did was just
- 15:58Speaker 1: do a really cool thing for his brother, Kalen Newton,
- 16:01Speaker 1: former Howard quarterback then was receiver at Auburn. And I
- 16:04Speaker 1: believe will Mary as well. He was quoted His brother
- 16:07Speaker 1: was quoted by reporters saying that it was a selfless
- 16:11Speaker 1: act for Cam Newton to throw from maybe he shows
- 16:13Speaker 1: scouts he's got a little something, but really just a
- 16:15Speaker 1: pretty cool thing to do for his brother. Yeah, pretty cool.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I get it. I do. And I mentioned the zubos.
- 16:21Speaker 1: He was wearing the zoo bas before he went out
- 16:22Speaker 1: there for more basic sweats. But Cam Newton throwing yesterday
- 16:27Speaker 1: at Auburn Pro Day, thank you. I and Rappaport also
- 16:31Speaker 1: working out at Auburn Pro Day. Derek Hall and its
- 16:34Speaker 1: nineteen and a half quarter sacks there at Auburn, a
- 16:37Speaker 1: guy that we saw at the Senior Bowl, Bucky an
- 16:40Speaker 1: edge defender. What do we like about Derek Hall, Well,
- 16:42Speaker 1: we like his first quickness, we like his birth, we
- 16:45Speaker 1: like his ability to finish and knock the quarterback down.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And so when you think about pass risus in sack production,
- 16:50Speaker 1: it always matters. Guys that knocked down the quarterback in
- 16:53Speaker 1: college typically do it again and the pros and so
- 16:55Speaker 1: Derek Hall has an opportunity to continue to climb up
- 16:58Speaker 1: the charts. Then you see the stats seven sacks, twelve TFLs.
- 17:02Speaker 1: This is a guy who certainly is intriguing. I'm thinking
- 17:05Speaker 1: day two is when Derek Call could come off the board.
- 17:07Speaker 1: What do you think, Baldy well, I mean, look, he's
- 17:11Speaker 1: got a lot of good tape. You know, he's hit
- 17:14Speaker 1: the speed that he showed at the combine, and it
- 17:17Speaker 1: shows up on tape all the time. I if you
- 17:21Speaker 1: just look at him as a pass rusher, I mean
- 17:23Speaker 1: I'd say that his ability to bend is a little questionable.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I think his straight line speed is there. Obviously as
- 17:30Speaker 1: an outside linebacker, he drops, he shows some agility in space,
- 17:34Speaker 1: but to be able to turn the corner, Like, how
- 17:36Speaker 1: are you going to beat tackles in the NFL? I mean,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you gotta win your one on ones. So you beat
- 17:41Speaker 1: him with power. He's got some of that, but typically
- 17:44Speaker 1: you got to be able to turn the corner like
- 17:46Speaker 1: I find European sports car. And that's where I think
- 17:48Speaker 1: he struggles a little bit. And that's why Tebucky's point,
- 17:51Speaker 1: he looks like a Day two prospect for me right now?
- 17:53Speaker 1: All right, Derek Hall, the guy who saw the combine,
- 17:56Speaker 1: rather a bigger pardon in mobile the Senior Bowl working
- 17:58Speaker 1: out yesterday at Auburn Pro Day near cam Newton. Thank you,
- 18:04Speaker 1: Baldy Bucky. We're coming up with more from Columbus and
- 18:08Speaker 1: a friendly reminder. C J. Strout throwing today can be
- 18:12Speaker 1: seen exclusively on NFL Plus. This is the week if
- 18:16Speaker 1: you've been holding off to go get NFL plus plus
- 18:20Speaker 1: dot NFL dot com, Go get it. CJ Strout throwing today,
- 18:25Speaker 1: Bryce Young tomorrow, and then Will Levice and then Anthony Richardson. Gotcha? Okay, good?
- 18:37Speaker 1: I love all you guys here. Let's go out there
- 18:40Speaker 1: and dominators. Guys fire back at the end on that
- 18:42Speaker 1: ball is gonna be caught for that touchdown? Peoplieve want
- 18:47Speaker 1: a throw by Trevor Lawrence. We ain't going no well,
- 18:51Speaker 1: we ain't going no well, are you kidding me? Bit deep?
- 18:54Speaker 1: That bit a gigantic play? Oh you're long day've done this.
- 19:00Speaker 1: So a little perspective here on what the Jaguars did.
- 19:03Speaker 1: They're the first team to ever have the number one overall.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Pick them back to back years and make the playoffs. Okay,
- 19:10Speaker 1: pretty cool. Here's who has spent the most money so far.
- 19:15Speaker 1: This includes bringing back your own restricted guys as well.
- 19:18Speaker 1: If you're kind of wondering, like what's going on here? Yeah,
- 19:20Speaker 1: the Broncos have made a couple of big Mike McGlinchey
- 19:23Speaker 1: Ben Powers old line moves that really drives that number up.
- 19:27Speaker 1: But can we look at this and try to project
- 19:30Speaker 1: teams based on money spent? Gdpatista I did on one
- 19:35Speaker 1: more thing and not one more thing thinking out loud
- 19:37Speaker 1: a couple of days ago. It's not necessarily money spent
- 19:39Speaker 1: is how wisely you spend that money. But can we
- 19:41Speaker 1: look at those numbers and project success this year? A
- 19:44Speaker 1: lot of people are bullish on the Bears, are you?
- 19:49Speaker 1: I am? I think they are one of the big
- 19:51Speaker 1: candidates for a turnaround. Let's face it, they only won
- 19:54Speaker 1: three games last year, so there is a whole lot
- 19:56Speaker 1: of room for improvement. But I feel like justin Field
- 19:59Speaker 1: came on last season in the passing game under less
- 20:02Speaker 1: than ideal circumstances. They have committed to him, and then,
- 20:05Speaker 1: more importantly, as part of the trade that sent the
- 20:08Speaker 1: first round draft pick out of the Bears. Out of
- 20:11Speaker 1: the first round draft pick, they picked up receiver DJ Moore,
- 20:15Speaker 1: who managed to be productive in Carolina with a revolving
- 20:18Speaker 1: door of quarterbacks, so certainly you would expect that he
- 20:21Speaker 1: will be productive in Chicago. They also got a tight end.
- 20:25Speaker 1: They got Dante Foreman, a running back who was really
- 20:28Speaker 1: productive after Christian McCaffrey left. The Panthers, so I feel
- 20:31Speaker 1: like they have shored up the offense and they will
- 20:33Speaker 1: be more productive on the offense. They also signed two
- 20:36Speaker 1: big linebackers for the defense, so the defense should be improved.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And they still have a lot of draft capital again
- 20:43Speaker 1: from that trade for this year and next year's draft,
- 20:46Speaker 1: so they've got a lot of building blocks that they
- 20:49Speaker 1: can put in place around justin fields to take advantage
- 20:52Speaker 1: of his skill set. I think they will be improved
- 20:55Speaker 1: and then maybe a little under the Raider, and they
- 20:58Speaker 1: don't want to admit that this is a factor, but
- 21:00Speaker 1: the big Bear slayer, Aaron Rodgers, is probably going to
- 21:03Speaker 1: be out of that division once the trade with the
- 21:05Speaker 1: Jets as complete, and that can only help. Can they
- 21:08Speaker 1: go from number one overall pick to the playoffs like
- 21:10Speaker 1: the Jaguars did? Technically they have nine now, so we'll
- 21:15Speaker 1: have to put an asterisk next to the Bears if
- 21:19Speaker 1: they get there. The Saints spent one hundred and ninety
- 21:21Speaker 1: one million, a lot of that inflated by the Derek
- 21:24Speaker 1: Carr salary figure and how much funny money may be
- 21:27Speaker 1: on the back end of that deal. But what about
- 21:29Speaker 1: the Saints, because Judy, there's a lot of talent there
- 21:33Speaker 1: once you plug in Derek Carr. Yeah, Derek Carr is
- 21:37Speaker 1: the reason why I think this has big turnaround potential.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And let's face it, they won seven games last year,
- 21:43Speaker 1: so they don't have to do much to get to
- 21:45Speaker 1: the top of that division. And with Tom Brady out
- 21:48Speaker 1: of that division, it is wide open and Derek Carr
- 21:50Speaker 1: is clearly right now at least the best quarterback in
- 21:53Speaker 1: that division. Also, keeping receiver Michael Thomas that is big
- 21:56Speaker 1: and certainly will help Derek Carr. And they also signed
- 22:01Speaker 1: the touchdown machine Jamal Williams from the Detroit Lions. So
- 22:05Speaker 1: the offense, which was the problem last year, that is
- 22:08Speaker 1: what was holding the Saints. Fact the offense should be
- 22:10Speaker 1: much more productive this year. This was a top ten defense,
- 22:14Speaker 1: maybe that was a little under the radar, a top
- 22:16Speaker 1: ten defense for the Saints, So this should be a
- 22:19Speaker 1: much more well rounded team with all of those offensive editions.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And again that division is wide open there for the taking. Yeah.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I really love the Colin Saunders went as well, kind
- 22:29Speaker 1: of an under the radar thing, former Chiefs defensive tackle.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Now we had the Broncos duty atop the list. Two
- 22:34Speaker 1: hundred and thirty five million dollars. That does not include
- 22:38Speaker 1: the money that they gave Sean Payton. If you include
- 22:42Speaker 1: that money, I mean they're in a different category here,
- 22:45Speaker 1: and they seem like the one team. And I know
- 22:47Speaker 1: the AFC West is amazingly tough, and Mahomes is still there,
- 22:51Speaker 1: but they seem like the one team that you would
- 22:54Speaker 1: think has to bounce back, no question about it. And
- 22:58Speaker 1: I think that was money well spent on Sean Payton.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Whatever they had to spend to get them was worth doing. Certainly,
- 23:05Speaker 1: hope is that he can get Russell Wilson back on track.
- 23:08Speaker 1: But when you see what they've done with their moves
- 23:10Speaker 1: and Sean Payton's fingerprints are all over their off season
- 23:13Speaker 1: so far, you know that they are going to take
- 23:15Speaker 1: some of the offensive onus off Russell Wilson. They signed
- 23:19Speaker 1: two really good run blocking offensive lineman, they signed a
- 23:24Speaker 1: road greader of a tight end, they signed a running back,
- 23:26Speaker 1: So clearly the plan at least to start is going
- 23:30Speaker 1: to be to run the ball more. Maybe we're not
- 23:33Speaker 1: going to see Russ cook the way Russell has always
- 23:35Speaker 1: wanted to cook. They're going to take some of that
- 23:37Speaker 1: offensive burden off Russell Wilson. But really The biggest acquisition
- 23:42Speaker 1: for the Denver Broncos is Sean Payton. They won only
- 23:45Speaker 1: five games last year in Denver, and certainly Sean Payton
- 23:49Speaker 1: is good for a few more just on his own,
- 23:51Speaker 1: you would have to think. So all of this contingent,
- 23:53Speaker 1: by the way, on better play from Russell Wilson, as
- 23:55Speaker 1: you said, which you hope Sean Payton gets this why
- 23:58Speaker 1: you got Sean Payton, and if not, then this conversation
- 24:01Speaker 1: next year will feel a lot different. Yeah, all right,
- 24:09Speaker 1: you're watching NFL now and we continue here to celebrate
- 24:12Speaker 1: Women's History Month. Let's share the accomplishments of inspirational women
- 24:15Speaker 1: around the league today here in LA with the Chargers
- 24:18Speaker 1: director of football administration, that is Katie Silvan. She tells
- 24:21Speaker 1: you now how she is helping shape the future for
- 24:25Speaker 1: her favorite team from her child. My name is Katie Sylvan.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I'm the director of football administration at the Los Angeles
- 24:38Speaker 1: Chargers and I work on the salary account player contracts.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I grew up in San Diego and I grew up
- 24:43Speaker 1: a Chargers fan. I discovered this might be a potential
- 24:46Speaker 1: career path when I stumbled upon the junior rotational program
- 24:49Speaker 1: at the league. Office, which ultimately gave me my start
- 24:51Speaker 1: in the NFL. Right now, we're going into free agency
- 24:54Speaker 1: and we're looking at building out a roster in that way.
- 24:56Speaker 1: As the draft comes along, I'm going to be crafting players,
- 24:59Speaker 1: signing players during the season, signing players on our practice squad,
- 25:03Speaker 1: and elevating those players on game day. I think that
- 25:07Speaker 1: being part of a team is my favorite part. And
- 25:09Speaker 1: I grew up playing sports and there's really nothing that
- 25:13Speaker 1: compares to that team environment. So it's been awesome to
- 25:16Speaker 1: be part of the collective effort of trying to bring
- 25:19Speaker 1: a Super Bowl to the team that I grew up
- 25:21Speaker 1: pretty for. All Right, Katie Sylvan there with the Chargers.
- 25:28Speaker 1: This is Odell Beckham Junior, who worked out this past
- 25:32Speaker 1: weekend in Arizona. Was actually two weekends ago. Shirtless, one
- 25:37Speaker 1: headed catches. The workout had everything. It also had thirteen
- 25:41Speaker 1: teams there, including two of his former teams, the Browns
- 25:48Speaker 1: and the Rams. Interesting. Interesting, Mike gard Tisa Jim Trotter
- 25:55Speaker 1: with me now. I mean I've heard that both would
- 25:58Speaker 1: welcome him back. Jim for what it's worth. Yeah, Andrew,
- 26:02Speaker 1: there are a number of teams that are monitoring the situation,
- 26:05Speaker 1: but Obviously, if Odell were to come in, it would
- 26:07Speaker 1: be at their price and nine his look, they have
- 26:09Speaker 1: some reasons for concerns over eight seasons, he's only had
- 26:12Speaker 1: two full seasons. Two nineteen was the last time he
- 26:16Speaker 1: had a thousand yards receiving in two sixteen was the
- 26:19Speaker 1: last time he had more than six touchdown receptions in
- 26:22Speaker 1: a season. So when you've factored those in with his
- 26:24Speaker 1: injuries and what not, teams are a little hesitant right
- 26:27Speaker 1: now to go out and put money on the table
- 26:29Speaker 1: for Odell. It'll be interesting to see where he lands.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Like I told you earlier in the week, the Rams
- 26:33Speaker 1: are one of those teams that are monitoring him, staying
- 26:35Speaker 1: in contact with him. They like the fact that he
- 26:38Speaker 1: has stayed in contact with Matthew Stafford and Cooper cup
- 26:41Speaker 1: Less need has been in regular contact with the agent.
- 26:43Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens. I agree with Jim that
- 26:47Speaker 1: I think the Rams are the most obvious and maybe
- 26:49Speaker 1: the best possible landing spot because of the familiarity. The
- 26:52Speaker 1: Chiefs have also been interested in him for a while
- 26:54Speaker 1: and they've lost some and Juju Smith Schuster, so they
- 26:58Speaker 1: could use him there. But certainly you see the wide
- 27:00Speaker 1: receiver market has not been great. Macauel Hardman just signed
- 27:04Speaker 1: for one year with the Yets, so this is you know,
- 27:08Speaker 1: he might have to wait a while while things settled down.
- 27:11Speaker 1: He looks better, certainly, but teams are going to want
- 27:16Speaker 1: to see him up close and see him at length because,
- 27:18Speaker 1: as Jim pointed out, he just has not had good
- 27:21Speaker 1: luck with his health and the past two big knee
- 27:24Speaker 1: injuries are going to give everybody pause. You know. I
- 27:28Speaker 1: talked to one of the teams that was there and
- 27:29Speaker 1: they just said, he look, he doesn't look as explosive
- 27:32Speaker 1: as the guy that you remember. But again, we haven't
- 27:34Speaker 1: seen very much about him physically in the last few
- 27:38Speaker 1: years because of the injuries, and said, you know, but
- 27:41Speaker 1: certainly strong, powerful guy, but maybe we're looking at a
- 27:43Speaker 1: different Odell Beckham, not the one that people remember in
- 27:47Speaker 1: twenty fourteen or twenty nineteen as the last time he
- 27:49Speaker 1: had a thousand yards season. I'll say. The other thing
- 27:52Speaker 1: here is it does come down to money, doesn't it.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Like he put out the notion that well, there was
- 27:56Speaker 1: a notion that he wanted like twenty million dollars a year,
- 27:58Speaker 1: which he tweeted like, no, that's who gave you that,
- 28:01Speaker 1: but I also did turn down four. So what number
- 28:04Speaker 1: does he think he deserves at this point having not
- 28:07Speaker 1: played a full season in eons, Like, it's almost like
- 28:11Speaker 1: you got to prove to me that you're healthy before
- 28:13Speaker 1: I give you money. So maybe it's a it's a
- 28:14Speaker 1: low based value deal with lots of incentives. If it
- 28:17Speaker 1: were twenty eighteen Odell twenty nineteen Odell, then yes, we'd
- 28:20Speaker 1: be talking about twenty perhaps because that's the market for
- 28:24Speaker 1: somebody of his skill. No one doubts his skill, but
- 28:27Speaker 1: he is coming off the injuries and he is going
- 28:29Speaker 1: to turn thirty one in November. What helmety he's wearing
- 28:33Speaker 1: when he's thirty one? For me? Stay? NFL Now is
