- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn French with Fexingo. Episode 137, can you believe it? Luna: I know, it's flying by! And I'm excited because today we're going back to the ice cream shop. I loved that episode. Lucas: Yeah, it's a good one. We're going to review and practice ordering ice cream in French. Perfect for when you're out and about this summer. Luna: Let's start with the basics. How do I say 'I would like an ice cream'? Lucas: Je voudrais une glace. Say it with me: Je voudrais une glace. Luna: Je voudrais une glace. That's smooth. So voudrais is 'would like', right? Lucas: Exactly. It's polite and easy. Now, the server might ask: En cornet ou en pot? That's 'In a cone or in a cup?'. Luna: En cornet ou en pot? Cornet is cone, pot is cup. Got it. Lucas: Yes. So if you want a cone, you say: En cornet, s'il vous plaît. And if you want a cup: En pot, s'il vous plaît. Luna: En cornet, s'il vous plaît. I'd go with a cone, feels more classic. Lucas: Then you choose your flavor. For example: Je voudrais une boule de vanille. That means 'I would like one scoop of vanilla.' Boule is scoop. Luna: Je voudrais une boule de vanille. So if I want chocolate, I say: Je voudrais une boule de chocolat. Lucas: Perfect. You can also ask for two scoops: deux boules. Now, when you're done, you'll want to know the price. Combien ça coûte? means 'How much does it cost?'. Luna: Combien ça coûte? That's a handy one. Lucas: And the server might say: C'est deux euros. 'It's two euros.' Let's practice that. C'est deux euros. Luna: C'est deux euros. Good. And then I say 'thank you, have a good day'. Lucas: Exactly: Merci, bonne journée. Let's put it all together in a mini scene. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. Let's go. Lucas: You walk up to the counter and say: Je voudrais une glace. Luna: Je voudrais une glace. Lucas: The server asks: En cornet ou en pot? Luna: En cornet, s'il vous plaît. Lucas: And you want vanilla: Je voudrais une boule de vanille. Luna: Je voudrais une boule de vanille. Lucas: Then you ask: Combien ça coûte? Luna: Combien ça coûte? Lucas: The server says: C'est deux euros. You say: Merci, bonne journée. Luna: Merci, bonne journée. That felt real! I could actually do that in France now. Lucas: You absolutely could. And you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with French, a handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's what keeps these episodes ad-free and coming. Luna: Yeah, it's a small thing that makes a big difference. We appreciate everyone who supports the show. Lucas: Okay, back to ice cream. Let's do a quick review of all the phrases. Luna: Sounds good. I'll try to say them all from memory. Lucas: First: Je voudrais une glace. Luna: Je voudrais une glace. Lucas: En cornet ou en pot? Luna: En cornet ou en pot? Lucas: Je voudrais une boule de vanille. Luna: Je voudrais une boule de vanille. Lucas: Combien ça coûte? Luna: Combien ça coûte? Lucas: C'est deux euros. Luna: C'est deux euros. Lucas: And Merci, bonne journée. Luna: Merci, bonne journée. I think I've got it! Lucas: Awesome. Practice these phrases, and next time you're at an ice cream shop, try them out in French. Even if you're not in France, you can pretend. Luna: That's the spirit. Thanks for joining us on Learn French with Fexingo. See you next time! Lucas: À bientôt!
