- 0:34Welcome to the drive through episode 11.
- 0:36This is our monthly recap.
- 0:37We put together a menu of automotive motorsport and random car adjacent news.
- 0:41Now let's pull up to the window for some automotive goodness.
- 0:44That's right, and tonight our.
- 0:47special guest host filling in for Brad is none other than
- 0:50Donovan Lara, CEO of Garage Ride.
- 0:53He's a huge fan of our drive thru series and we're delighted to have
- 0:57him on the show tonight as a co host for our monthly news series.
- 1:01Let's kick it off.
- 1:02Tanya in studio.
- 1:03I think we're going to start off with Show
- 1:07me the money.
- 1:09At least that's what the government is saying.
- 1:10That's not what Ford wants to do.
- 1:13Apparently they've been hit with a 1.
- 1:153 billion dollar penalty for importing Transit Connect vans.
- 1:23Aren't those the vans that they make?
- 1:25They were previously built in Turkey, imported into the United
- 1:29States at a very low import tax.
- 1:32Then apparently they were stripped of their interiors and then
- 1:35reconfigured to be the transportation vans that they're known to be here.
- 1:40The U.
- 1:41S.
- 1:41Customs Control, they stepped in and said, um, Actually, you guys were
- 1:45paying the wrong tariff that whole time.
- 1:48Ooh,
- 1:49back taxes, interest, and penalties.
- 1:52So now it's
- 1:52time to pay us back at the 25 percent rate, not the 2.
- 1:565 percent rate.
- 1:59They lost their first Supreme Court fight.
- 2:01The Supreme Court declined to hear their case, so they ended up having to pay.
- 2:05Some losses, but they're still trying to fight some additional penalties and things
- 2:09like that, arguing that at the time, the rules that were put in place, they were
- 2:13abiding by them, which I guess they're playing the, well, y'all had it wrong.
- 2:18That's not our fault.
- 2:19I
- 2:20mean, I've done that before.
- 2:22I mean, who hasn't done that?
- 2:23That's not, I'm not paying that bill.
- 2:24That's your fault.
- 2:25That's not my fault.
- 2:26I mean, I can't
- 2:27blame them if that's how it went down.
- 2:29This is the old chicken tax thing where it's 25%.
- 2:32So first of all, why is that even still a tax?
- 2:35And second of all, is a light van, a transit van, really a light truck?
- 2:40That's kind of the rule, right?
- 2:40It's pickup trucks or any kind of trucks that come into us.
- 2:43That's really gray area to me.
- 2:45And I didn't understand in the article too, where they talk about,
- 2:47they bring the transit connects over and take the windows out.
- 2:51What does that have to do with the
- 2:52seats in the windows?
- 2:53Maybe that's, was their angle that in that configuration of how
- 2:57they were built in Turkey, somehow it doesn't qualify as a truck.
- 2:59Well, they're not
- 3:00fully assembled at that point.
- 3:02So if you think about it that way, it's coming over as partially assembled.
- 3:06They filled them with chickens and brought them over.
- 3:07They'd probably be okay.
- 3:09Let's face it, Transit Connect is built on what, a Ford Focus chassis or something?
- 3:13It's not even a truck, it's really a car at the end of the day.
- 3:16I can see the bigger Transit, like the one we're used to seeing in Britain,
- 3:19I think that's equivalent to like a Ranger or an F 150 or something like
- 3:22that, but if we're talking about the little guys, that's just a car.
- 3:26But Ford won't be outdone.
- 3:29We talk about Chrysler a lot on this show and how the, you know, this is the, the
- 3:32age of the big muscle engines, right?
- 3:36The 800, 900, 000 horsepowers, all them HRSPRs.
- 3:40And it's your time to get one before the EV revolution takes over and
- 3:44Skynet is in control of everything.
- 3:46But Ford said, you know what?
- 3:47We're going to play too Chrysler.
- 3:497.
- 3:503 liter twin turbo EcoBoost V8.
- 3:54Mark, that's right.
- 3:56But it's not going to come in the Raptor and it's not going to come in the Mustang.
- 4:00It's going to come in the Super Duty pickups.
- 4:02So this is the EcoBoost V8 that everybody's been waiting for.
- 4:07If you're a landscaper,
- 4:09so I'm wondering, so we know that Evie revolution is coming in 2030.
- 4:14I'm wondering if this is kind of their last dying attempt to keep good old boys
- 4:17on with the gas engines, because it's not going to be a seamless transition.
- 4:20I can't imagine.
- 4:21Everybody's going to go.
- 4:21Yep.
- 4:21I want to be an Evie.
- 4:23But it also seems like this was probably in the works before they announced
- 4:26where they're going to move to Evie, you know, and I know we're going to
- 4:29talk about Evie's and things later.
- 4:30It's really kind of that twist of let's make a faster truck.
- 4:35But now we have an Evie coming that weighs a lot more and is a lot faster too.
- 4:39At what point does it end?
- 4:40I mean, how much do you need a twin turbo 7.
- 4:433?
- 4:44Of course you do.
- 4:45Do you really, maybe this will end up in something else.
- 4:48Well, here's
- 4:48the disappointing part.
- 4:49If Chrysler had built this truck, 1500 horsepower and 9, 000, right.
- 4:56Built on a Mesozoic era Mercedes.
- 4:58I'm sure, you know, AMG power plant, but this, the thing that gets me about
- 5:01these big motors, and we had a debate about this not long ago about that 9.
- 5:059 liter Lingenfelter Suburban, and I won't get into that drama, but,
- 5:10but what gets me about this motor 7.
- 5:133 liters twin turbo.
- 5:15430 horsepower and 475 torques.
- 5:18I need double those numbers to justify this motor.
- 5:21And I think to your point, Donovan, when the EV comes out, the EV is going to
- 5:24feel faster in the same truck because the torque distribution, the way it
- 5:29just puts the power down immediately.
- 5:31You don't have to build up to those 475.
- 5:33It's just boom right away.
- 5:34Maybe it's a little bit of both.
- 5:36Keep the guys engaged, but also be like, look how much cooler the EV is.
- 5:40You can get all those Torquems right away.
- 5:42Well, it's interesting you say that because, you know,
- 5:43typically diesel, right?
- 5:44Is, well, I shouldn't say always twice the horsepower, but it's usually up
- 5:47there with these numbers, 430 and 475, that seems uncharacteristic.
- 5:52It should be 430 and 700, 800 foot pounds.
- 5:55So I wonder what the long game is here.
- 5:57Maybe this is, they're going to put this in something to make it faster.
- 6:00It's confusing to me.
- 6:01It seems like a weird time and it seems like a weird number.
- 6:03So maybe there's something we don't know that's going on.
- 6:05I wouldn't mind it in the Mustang and then turn it up to 11.
- 6:09I mean, 1100, I think it would be pretty cool to have that twin turbo V8 in
- 6:13there with a factory warranty to boot.
- 6:15But moving on, we got to talk about EVs a little bit.
- 6:18The recent sales numbers for May in our, you know, friendly country of
- 6:23Norway, tell us that the Mustang Mach E, sorry, just Mach E, we shall not say
- 6:30Mustang, even though that's what it is.
- 6:32The Ford Escape.
- 6:33Let's not digress on the poor name choice, but the Mach E, apparently.
- 6:36Was the highest selling electric vehicle in Norway, selling out Tesla.
- 6:44So what you're telling me is the Will Ferrell commercials from the
- 6:47Superbowl didn't really do it.
- 6:49Uh,
- 6:50I think this is a clear indication that Norway and the rest of the world
- 6:53doesn't understand how cool Elon Musk is.
- 6:55That's gotta be what it is, right?
- 6:57They're still fanboys of everything American.
- 6:59So Ford's got one.
- 7:00It's really cool, but maybe they just don't get, you know, the whole Tesla.
- 7:04So, so you say that, and then it says.
- 7:06That the model three ranked six on the sales list.
- 7:11So I'm thinking Norway must be fan boys of a lot more than just Ford,
- 7:15because Toyota and Skoda were higher on the list than the model three.
- 7:18So,
- 7:19although the RAV4 is up there better than the model three, I don't
- 7:22know what that says about Norway.
- 7:23Is that really a RAV4 or is that the Hilux?
- 7:26It says RAV4 hybrid.
- 7:27And what is the Enyaq from Volkswagen?
- 7:31The Skoda.
- 7:31Is that how you say that?
- 7:33Yeah.
- 7:33The
- 7:33brand is Skoda.
- 7:34Can you imagine?
- 7:35Hey, sweetheart.
- 7:36Tonight we're taking the Enyaq.
- 7:38I don't think that works.
- 7:39And we're sleeping in a yurt.
- 7:41So there's also a headline about the Mach E outproduced the gas powered Mustang.
- 7:49You gotta take it with a little bit of a discerning eye because part of the,
- 7:54I think there were only a thousand cars more than the gas powered Mustang
- 8:00because of the semiconductor shortage.
- 8:02They prioritized building the electric.
- 8:04Cars versus the gas powered cars.
- 8:07So there could be a little bit of funniness in those numbers, a little bit
- 8:11of artificial inflation there that the Mach E actually had higher production.
- 8:16Yes, because they forced higher production in a way.
- 8:19I think we need a little more time.
- 8:21We need the world to balance itself back out and not have all these production
- 8:27shortages and supply chain issues.
- 8:29And then see how these numbers.
- 8:32Line out.
- 8:32I mean, inevitably I would imagine that yes, the Mach E will probably
- 8:36eventually outpace its gasoline brother.
- 8:40I don't know the numbers on this car, but is the price of a Mach E compared to what?
- 8:44The V6 Mustang?
- 8:45The GT Mustang?
- 8:47The V6 that they don't make anymore?
- 8:48Right.
- 8:49It's got to be faster, right?
- 8:50And it's the new kind of cool kid on the block.
- 8:53I'll admit when I first heard about the Mach E, I thought it was super lame.
- 8:57I saw one actually at Amelia Island.
- 8:59They had the race trim version.
- 9:00They had this, and you know, we all saw the hype videos, right?
- 9:02The drifting and the sliding videos.
- 9:04I think there's just a cool factor in here that is present with this because
- 9:07it's new, it's shiny that, you know, the Mustang is kind of aged a little bit,
- 9:11even though they keep updating every couple of years, but I don't know if I
- 9:14hate to say that, but I think it's cool.
- 9:15I mean, I'm looking at the picture now, the red one.
- 9:17Would I buy one?
- 9:18Probably not, but I kind of see the appeal a little bit.
- 9:21You know, I think it'd be cool.
- 9:22I'd love to get hold of one and burn the tires off it for sure.
- 9:24When I saw it for the first time in the DC auto show in the, before four
- 9:28times, you know, pre COVID in the right color, the mock E is a stunner in the
- 9:35wrong color, like that baby vomit beige.
- 9:38That they're offering it in.
- 9:39It's absolutely terrible.
- 9:40It just, it just looks awful.
- 9:41So I think color has a lot to do with it.
- 9:43The red is really nice that they chose kind of similar to the Mazda red that's
- 9:47out there and what's available in the Mustangs really gets your attention.
- 9:50At the end of the day, what I have trouble with, despite the kind of like shooting
- 9:54break design, it kind of reminiscent, I've said it before of like a Scirocco or, or
- 9:58Corrado, if you look at it with like a half drunk, one eye open type of deal.
- 10:01Is that it's still a Ford Escape with electric power plant.
- 10:04And so for me, that's a pill to swallow.
- 10:07It's like, there's such an upcharge and it's like, is it worth it?
- 10:10But it's cool.
- 10:11And compared to some of the other EVs, yes, but no.
- 10:14And it's so there's a lot of consternation there.
- 10:17And so I think I want to wait a little bit longer and maybe there'll be a.
- 10:20Mach e gt and, you know, big tires and flares and spoilers and stuff.
- 10:25Reminiscent of the 1400, right?
- 10:27Or something like that, that's a little bit more appealing to
- 10:29the boy racer in me, you know?
- 10:31And, and we'll see if that that ever happens.
- 10:32It looks like they start at 42 8 is what I'm seeing, so, whew.
- 10:37Yeah, I don't know.
- 10:38I'd like to see the performance numbers between that and the
- 10:40Mustang.
- 10:41Speaking of chip shortages, it's probably no surprise, and we reported
- 10:45it more than once, that the chip shortages are across the board.
- 10:47Ford is not alone, Toyota's not alone, Volkswagen, and of course Chevy.
- 10:51And we recently heard that, you know, the excuse is that because
- 10:54of chip shortages, they're going to stop producing the Camaro.
- 10:57We talked about that, I believe, on the last episode of the drive thru
- 10:59or the one before, but now they have halted production of the Corvette.
- 11:03And I'm going to say maybe that's not a bad idea because they can fix some of the
- 11:09outstanding recalls with the C8 Corvette.
- 11:12So if you're in line to get a C8, you're going to have to wait a little bit longer.
- 11:17And if you were fortunate to get a 2020 C8, the value on those is now going up.
- 11:22Can I say thank you for stopping production on the Camaro?
- 11:25I don't know if last time you're out, start counting V6 Camaros.
- 11:28No offense to anybody that's got a Camaro out there, but they are.
- 11:31All over the place.
- 11:32Yeah, I think the C8s are really cool.
- 11:33It's amazing to me though.
- 11:34You know, even in 2021 with the premium they were getting, you know, from people
- 11:39in the aftermarket, you see them on the, you know, the used car lots right now.
- 11:42There's a mini dealer not far from here.
- 11:44They have three.
- 11:45So if they're that hot, you know what I mean?
- 11:47How are they ended up in, in some of these scenarios, but yeah, I'm with you.
- 11:50I think, you know, it's going to be one of those where hopefully they do have a
- 11:53chance to correct some of those things.
- 11:54It makes me think of the air conditioning and the, the radiators are in the front.
- 11:59You know, hit a lot of pebbles and bruise, all those veins, you know,
- 12:02was that too soon to come to market?
- 12:03The real problem is that your typical Corvette driver, not
- 12:06to offend any Corvette drivers.
- 12:07And I love the Corvette club and I work with them on many occasions is that
- 12:11that target demographic, I would say some of those guys are ready for the
- 12:15mid engine car, but I think having.
- 12:17Moved away from the traditional platform, you begin to realize
- 12:20that the cockpit is small.
- 12:22It's laid out very different.
- 12:23It's not the most comfortable car in the world.
- 12:25If you've driven other mid engine Elise's or Porsche's and whatnot,
- 12:29they're kind of awkward and they're not easy to get in and out of because of
- 12:32the door shape and things like that.
- 12:33And so maybe there's a turnoff there.
- 12:35For me, the big turnoff with the C8 is the back, like whoever
- 12:39designed the back of that thing.
- 12:41Cut off the rear end of a Camaro and slapped it on an Acura NSX.
- 12:44And this is how we got the C8.
- 12:46Style isn't everything, I get it.
- 12:49I think there's some shortcomings with the Corvette that weren't foreseen.
- 12:52I would still argue that we need to keep the classic front engine rear
- 12:56drive Vette along with this mid engine under a different name and offer both.
- 13:00Because the C7, it was like, man, finally got it right.
- 13:04But then we discontinued it.
- 13:06Yeah.
- 13:06Race proven.
- 13:07Absolutely.
- 13:08Absolutely.
- 13:08We're still talking about Fords.
- 13:09I know it sounds like we're talking about bow ties, but in reality,
- 13:12we're still talking about Ford.
- 13:13They are our showcase this month.
- 13:15The other exciting EV that they've got going on, aside from, you
- 13:19know, the Mach E, however you feel about it, is the F 150.
- 13:23Lightning, which I think we had talked about last month.
- 13:26They finally gave it a name instead of calling it the F 150E.
- 13:29They're bringing back that Lightning name, which is very suiting to an electric.
- 13:33They debuted just over a month ago.
- 13:35And as of about two weeks ago, it would already hit a
- 13:39hundred thousand reservations.
- 13:41Wow.
- 13:42Pretty good.
- 13:43So there is definitely a lot of interest.
- 13:47in this truck.
- 13:47But the real thing to talk about here is the weight of this vehicle.
- 13:53You know, I saw this, this article, I was like, let me click it.
- 13:55Cause you know, Oh, they've got a, you know, big weight problem or something.
- 13:59I'm like, okay, what are they talking about?
- 14:01I never thought about it before.
- 14:02Cause I'm not a really a truck person.
- 14:04I don't have a truck.
- 14:05So I don't think in terms of truck tonnage, but I was blown
- 14:10away for a moment when I read how much this sucker is going away.
- 14:156, 500 pounds.
- 14:19Which is 35 percent increase over its gas cousin, which is
- 14:24because of the huge battery.
- 14:25The weight of the battery is 1, 800 pounds alone.
- 14:28The weight of the battery is practically the weight of my car.
- 14:33I thought lithium ions were supposed to be light.
- 14:351, 800 pounds.
- 14:37What are they making it out of?
- 14:38Lead?
- 14:39I don't
- 14:39know.
- 14:39And then apparently the Model 3, because they wanted to give
- 14:42you a little perspective here.
- 14:44The Tesla Model 3 actually weighs a thousand pounds more than a Honda Civic.
- 14:49I'm assuming the newer Honda Civic.
- 14:51Oh, you mean the Accord?
- 14:52But, I mean, wow!
- 14:54These things are heavy.
- 14:55And so when I saw 6, 500 pounds, the immediate thing that came to my mind
- 14:58is Living down here in the South, rolling around in a lowered hatchback.
- 15:04So many trucks roll up next to me that their side mirrors are sometimes
- 15:09over the roofline of my car.
- 15:12They don't weigh 6, 500 pounds, but if one of them ever T boned me through an
- 15:16intersection, y'all, it was a good run.
- 15:19I can't even imagine one of these bad
- 15:21boys.
- 15:21It's like getting hit by a train with 35 percent more weight.
- 15:24That's insane.
- 15:25The E 150, I mean the lightning.
- 15:29Isn't the only one to suffer concerns about weight.
- 15:33It's not the heaviest one out there.
- 15:35No, because we've all heard about the Hummer EV, right?
- 15:40And how the Hummer was already a mastodon.
- 15:42But you thought 6, 500 pounds was bad.
- 15:45Imagine this blowing through an intersection and you're in your Miata.
- 15:499, 046 pounds.
- 15:52Guess what the U S license restriction before you have to get
- 15:56a different license, the vehicle must weigh under 10, 000 pounds.
- 16:01That
- 16:01is two Tesla model S's by the way, they weigh between 4, 500 and 4, 900 pounds.
- 16:07That's two of those.
- 16:08That is too much.
- 16:10That's where this whole thing gets kind of crazy for me.
- 16:12So, you know, years ago when Porsche came out with a turbo Cayenne,
- 16:17you know, we talked about how fast you need to go in an SUV, right?
- 16:21Sports cars.
- 16:21I get it.
- 16:22But, you know, do you need to go 200 miles an hour in an SUV?
- 16:26So now with all of this EV, pretty much all that we're going to have
- 16:30to change the standard by the way that we measure performance, right?
- 16:33They're all going to be zero to 16, three point seconds or less.
- 16:36How fast do you need to go in an EV, especially one that weighs twice?
- 16:40Or maybe even in that case, sometimes three times the size of a regular car.
- 16:45I think it's crazy.
- 16:46I, you know, there's gotta be some kind of limitation there
- 16:48because that's almost a weapon.
- 16:50That's 9, 000 pounds coming at you.
- 16:52And I would assume they probably taught that thing off at 150 miles an hour.
- 16:56Don't know why it should go that fast, but there's gotta be something there.
- 16:59And I'm assuming that's 9,000 pounds minus the six friends
- 17:02you put in them each weighing, I don't know, 150 to 200 pounds each
- 17:07But you still need a CDL to drive the thing.
- 17:09But you know, Donovan, you brought up a really good point and it,
- 17:11and it begs a couple questions.
- 17:13If the cops are still running Crown Victoria's in Chargers, does
- 17:17this fee that you can now outrun Motorola if you are that fast,
- 17:21because a 200 mile an hour take hand.
- 17:23I mean, that's pretty good.
- 17:25Take a battery, runs out.
- 17:26And then
- 17:26here's the problem though, cop cars are reinforced and all that other stuff to
- 17:31also be able to ram you as a tactic for stopping chases or things like that.
- 17:38The crown Victoria against 9, 000 pounds.
- 17:41That's a good point.
- 17:42The cops
- 17:43are going to need to upgrade to like tractor trailer.
- 17:46It makes me think of, there was an article in garage ride about a month or
- 17:49two ago of the guy that keeps getting his, is it a model three impounded?
- 17:53Because he puts it on autopilot and jumps in the back seat because
- 17:55he wants to be chauffeured around and they just impound his car.
- 17:59And his whole thing is, well, screw you.
- 18:00I'll just buy another one.
- 18:01So he's on like his seventh or eighth model three, because he just wants
- 18:04to jump in the back seat and drive.
- 18:05I
- 18:05thought that wasn't.
- 18:06It's supposed to be possible because that accident that happened in Texas
- 18:09where they found the occupants in the backseat, which it's unclear whether
- 18:14the guy ended up in the backseat because he was trying to escape or
- 18:16not, or was really in the backseat.
- 18:18But allegedly, you know, Musk said that's impossible.
- 18:21You have to be sitting in the driver's seat.
- 18:24Now, but every time you talk to somebody that owns a Tesla.
- 18:26Edson on graduate.
- 18:27Paul is one of them.
- 18:28He'll tell you, Oh, they didn't do this part or they weren't
- 18:31really autonomously driving.
- 18:33They were, you know, so there's always that excuse, but my favorite.
- 18:36And then I'll stop talking about EVs is the guy that he went out to the salt flats
- 18:41and it wasn't even, it was pre EV and he put his, I think, suburban on cruise
- 18:45control, jumped in the back seat and had a sandwich and tried to see, I think
- 18:49he was doing a hundred miles an hour.
- 18:50Maybe it was faster than that.
- 18:51And that was his whole thing.
- 18:52So it's not autonomous or not.
- 18:56Idiots everywhere.
- 18:57So
- 18:57the other factor of this is kind of what happened.
- 19:00I hope the same thing doesn't happen, but it's probably inevitable because it's
- 19:03what happened to some extent when SUVs, the Ford Explorer, all those originally
- 19:09started coming to be is, well, I'm safer in my Ford Explorer if I'm in an accident.
- 19:14Well, yeah, because you weigh.
- 19:16Twice the weight of, you know, a Miata.
- 19:19So when you, you drive in your Ford Explorer, run over top
- 19:22of a Miata, of course you fare better than the guy in the Miata.
- 19:25So now we're at the same thing again, where you're being surrounded
- 19:28by vehicles that weigh two to three times as much as you.
- 19:32So now what?
- 19:33All the cars are just going to get even heavier.
- 19:35Yeah, that is a selling point.
- 19:36I'm glad you brought that up.
- 19:37Now I'm going to trade in the Explorer for something big and
- 19:39heavy to protect everybody.
- 19:40I kid.
- 19:41No, I kid.
- 19:41Yeah, you're, you're totally right.
- 19:42There should be something in there that totally, uh, evens the playing
- 19:46field.
- 19:46And you know what totally evens that playing field is a teaser
- 19:49for Brad's lost and found series.
- 19:51So let's switch gears a little bit here because you never guess what we found.
- 19:55Still talking about Fords.
- 19:57A young man recently purchased A Terminator Mustang.
- 20:01And for those of you that don't know what that is, it's an SN 95
- 20:04Mustang, 2004 era as they came from the factory with a supercharger.
- 20:09This was convertible and it has a whopping 534 miles.
- 20:14And as the story goes.
- 20:16This car was purchased in Alabama and sat in a garage for 15 years.
- 20:19It still has the factory stickers on it, the wrappings, the plastic
- 20:23over the seats, and the carpet.
- 20:24The car basically had never really been driven.
- 20:27It then was sold to another gentleman in New Hampshire who had it for four years.
- 20:31And then this young gentleman bought the car, looked into all its history to make
- 20:35sure that it was legit and the odometer hadn't been messed with and all that.
- 20:38And he bought it.
- 20:40He's now the proud owner of this Terminator Mustang and has subsequently
- 20:44driven it, modded it, and the value has plummeted through the floor.
- 20:47So congratulations on owning a new to you, a 15 plus year old Mustang Cobra.
- 20:53Yeah, I was trying to, for a minute there, I was trying to remember.
- 20:56It's like, there wasn't.
- 20:57Mustang and the Terminator movies.
- 21:01No, the Terminator was a package for the Mustang.
- 21:03And that's what gave you the supercharger and the body kit and some
- 21:05different wheels and some other stuff.
- 21:07I knew a couple of guys that had them.
- 21:09I rode in one.
- 21:10They were wicked fast for the day.
- 21:12I mean, we're talking 2004 era in those days, if you were making 400
- 21:16plus horsepower, like, you know, the LS twos and this thing, that was
- 21:19something to write home about now.
- 21:21400 horsepower.
- 21:22I mean, your regular old minivan has 400 horsepower.
- 21:25I think there's one last Ford story that we want to cover,
- 21:29you know, again, or exciting things happening right now.
- 21:32And the Bronco has recently debuted.
- 21:35And honestly, I have seen a lot of these recently,
- 21:39the full size one or the little guy, the sport, I've seen
- 21:41both.
- 21:41Really?
- 21:42Apparently they're a fan favorite down here.
- 21:44I've seen them in all sorts of different colors, sizes.
- 21:48Yeah.
- 21:48I was surprised to see so many in such a short period of time.
- 21:51So they are out and about and I don't, you know, they don't look terrible.
- 21:55That's saying a lot.
- 21:57I don't.
- 21:58I don't mind.
- 21:58I like seeing them on the road, but this person, of course, the Bronco
- 22:03got to be off roading all that good stuff built for tough for a reason.
- 22:08These folks, they were in Rio Ranch in Mexico, off roading on some trails
- 22:13and somehow managed to roll the Bronco down this steep Hill into this gully or
- 22:21ravine ish type, you know, area landed upside down, some things on its roof.
- 22:27Barrel roll down the hill
- 22:29on turtle
- 22:30spinning the tires.
- 22:31It can't right side itself, the driver, passenger, whoever they were fine.
- 22:35Kudos to the integrity of the passenger cabin can withstand a roll down.
- 22:41You know, the folks were out.
- 22:43You know, in the middle of nowhere, wherever this was, they
- 22:45started pinging, I think, local off road communities and whatnot.
- 22:48And of course, as you've heard, if you've listened to some of the other
- 22:51podcasts about that off roading community, they're brothers and
- 22:54sisters in arms, and they will come to the aid of a fellow off roader.
- 22:58A bunch of people mobilized immediately, started working strategies and plans to
- 23:02get the Bronco right side up and back up this steep ditch that it was in.
- 23:07The incredible thing, they got it right side up after a lot of, you know,
- 23:12maneuvering and MacGyvering or whatever.
- 23:14It still ran and drove on
- 23:17its own power.
- 23:18I got two questions.
- 23:19Maybe Donovan can answer these first question.
- 23:22How many Jeeps did it take to fix this problem?
- 23:25And the second question is which of Brian Cranston's nine goat modes allows you
- 23:30to roll the Bronco over down the hill?
- 23:33You know, I'm really impressed with that community.
- 23:35How about that?
- 23:36I mean, the guy said, Hey, I left it in this gully.
- 23:39Can somebody come help me?
- 23:40And they all came in swarms, but you know, it was a hold my beer moment, right?
- 23:44Let me see if I can get it out of there.
- 23:45I don't quite know why somebody took it off roading.
- 23:47I mean, you know, it's not really an off road car, right?
- 23:50I had an X, a BMW X5 for a while and tried to get into my neighborhood when it was
- 23:54snowing lightly and slid all the way down the hill and about landed in the lake.
- 23:58So, you know, I think you would know better unless you're in
- 24:01big knobbies or something, but that community to me is amazing.
- 24:04And you see that sometimes where people say, Hey, you know, listen,
- 24:06I'm stranded on the side of the road.
- 24:07Can you come get me?
- 24:08And for the most part, it goes, you know, unchecked.
- 24:11But, uh, I think that's definitely the coolest part of the story for sure.
- 24:14But, but, but goat modes, it has goat modes.
- 24:18And maybe that's a problem where people think it's more capable
- 24:21than maybe it actually is.
- 24:22Just like people get in their not fully autonomous self driving car.
- 24:29Don't believe what you see on
- 24:30TV.
- 24:31I've been saying that forever.
- 24:33I think it was a rental.
- 24:34I think some guys got together and said, Hey, let's take this
- 24:36thing out in the, in the woods.
- 24:38Got a little happy, but good for Ford, right?
- 24:39I mean, kind of wrapping up that segment.
- 24:41There is our showcase of news articles on Ford this month.
- 24:45I have a lot of things going on.
- 24:46I see a lot of things on the up.
- 24:48The Maki is doing well.
- 24:50The lightning is pre sold out.
- 24:52The Broncos are now kind of everywhere.
- 24:54They're kicking ass and taking names now.
- 24:56Granted, they're not building 1000 horsepower muscle cars like Chrysler,
- 25:00and I put them in a close second.
- 25:01second place and Chevy, I don't know.
- 25:04They're still out to lunch, whatever.
- 25:05But there is some news coming from Stellantis this month.
- 25:09So when I saw the headline, Alfa Romeo CEO, keen on bringing back GTV and Duetto
- 25:15sports cars, I obviously clicked it.
- 25:18This is Pavlovian.
- 25:19I have started to salivate as you were reading that.
- 25:22Cause I'm like
- 25:23GTV.
- 25:24Yes, please.
- 25:24Yeah, you had me at that.
- 25:26And to quote him, I'm very interested in the GTV.
- 25:30There is no statement or announcement at this stage, but I'm just
- 25:33giving you a personal feeling that I'm very interested in the GTV.
- 25:38I also love the duetto.
- 25:39Allow me to bring Alfa Romeo to a certain level of economic
- 25:42performance, and then we speak.
- 25:45Yes,
- 25:45please.
- 25:46This is so Italian.
- 25:47And then we speak.
- 25:49I love it because you know what, as passionate and as interested as the
- 25:52CEO of alpha is, I'm right behind him in line because when his interest
- 25:56peaks, mine will too, because I will be in line to put a deposit on this
- 26:00car because I need an alpha male in my life and it needs to be a GTV.
- 26:05And let me tell you something about this car.
- 26:06Cause as I was looking at this article, you know, it gets me because You know,
- 26:11the parent company of Chrysler and Alfa Romeo and Fiat Ferrari and all these
- 26:15other brands that they now own, there is this Italian passion amongst all the
- 26:20lines and it is not to be just contained within the Hellcat and the Challenger.
- 26:25Oh, no, because the GTV is going to boast 600 horsepower
- 26:31with eBoost all wheel drive.
- 26:34Including torque vectoring differentials, 50 to 50 perfect weight distribution.
- 26:39And you can carry four passengers, your dog and a load of groceries.
- 26:43Sell me this car, take my freaking money, make it so captain.
- 26:49And I have a feeling
- 26:50it's not 7.
- 26:513 liters.
- 26:52No, it's probably a two liter turbo.
- 26:54That's the worst part.
- 26:56But how about that duetto though?
- 26:57Right?
- 26:57That's the car that everybody, I think, associates with alpha.
- 27:00When you think about non car people, that's the car they should bring and
- 27:04maybe should have brought first, and maybe they don't launch it with JLo.
- 27:07Like Fiat did the 500, but that is the money making cart.
- 27:11That's their Boxster.
- 27:11They've got to do that.
- 27:12And I don't understand why they haven't done it yet because of the Fiat one 24.
- 27:16Take that Miata platform and just reskin it again and put the duetto
- 27:21or what be, you know, the spider, which it became later, right?
- 27:24It had a very long run in that platform in that body style.
- 27:28So it would only make sense, but maybe they're not doing it because people
- 27:32just go, it's just a rebadged 124.
- 27:35But I'm still okay with it.
- 27:36I'm wondering what that'll do to the collector market too.
- 27:39You know, you bring those cars back.
- 27:40You bring back some of these GTVs.
- 27:41What's that going to do to the GTV6 that are still reasonable?
- 27:45I've priced some of them recently in the teens and the 20s, and those are
- 27:48beautiful
- 27:48cars.
- 27:49If you can get one that isn't a out because most of them you were looking
- 27:53at him o are completely pristine l top gear or the grand tou ago where
- 27:59he spent a fort some money into it.
- 28:02But w I mean, all penned by Ju that penned the launch of and a lot of
- 28:08other famous right there with it.
- 28:10And bring it back.
- 28:12That's the need.
- 28:14But there is a revi Amongst the Alfa Romeo community, you were talking
- 28:19about the older cars where we've seen on Instagram and even on garage ride
- 28:23and a lot of other places where people are posting retrofitting EV power
- 28:28trains into these older Alfa Romeos.
- 28:31And I tell you what, it really lends itself well.
- 28:34The body shapes are still gorgeous.
- 28:36And you're like, Hey, a reliable power plant that makes a ton
- 28:38of power in a really cool car.
- 28:40So I think it's going to benefit the community on both ends.
- 28:43If they do start to bring some of these brands back,
- 28:45that's actually a great idea.
- 28:47So I had actually looked at, um, you know, the, we've talked about
- 28:49it before that 73, nine 11 that I'm restoring, maybe doing an EV swap in it.
- 28:53But one of the things that scared me away from the GTV six is that very
- 28:56thing, that reliability, but an EV, and that might not be a bad idea.
- 29:00You might've turned me onto something there.
- 29:01There you go.
- 29:02So hot off the presses, check this link because Alfa Romeo
- 29:07plans, electrified brand revival, starting with electric GTV retro.
- 29:13Yes, please.
- 29:13Yes, please.
- 29:14You can have my money.
- 29:16Robbed me blind on this one.
- 29:18I'm slobbering right now.
- 29:19This thing is gorgeous.
- 29:21Rob Mable.
- 29:22I don't care if it only gets 75 MPGE.
- 29:25Like, that's
- 29:26an old school.
- 29:27That's an original.
- 29:28That's a Giulietta GTV.
- 29:30That's the precursor to even the GTV6s that we got here in the U.
- 29:34S.
- 29:34in the 80s.
- 29:34This is just iconic Alfa Romeo right here.
- 29:37Gorgeous car.
- 29:38Gorgeous.
- 29:39I mean, I tell you what guys, I am still holding out hope for
- 29:43the GTA, the hatchback, the rear wheel drive that they promised us.
- 29:46You know, that they've been racing in TCR and I have yet to see it.
- 29:50So I, I don't wanna get super excited even about the GTV.
- 29:53I mean, I love the Julia.
- 29:55Everything that Alpha's brought so far has been awesome.
- 29:57The Stelvio is a gorgeous car.
- 29:59All of that, it's just.
- 30:00Just don't tease me.
- 30:01Just don't, just don't tease me.
- 30:02Just, you know, don't break my heart.
- 30:04All right.
- 30:04So we got to switch to the ever functional and let's call them clinical in some ways.
- 30:12Germans.
- 30:12We got to talk about the Volkswagen Audi group for a little bit.
- 30:15We reported.
- 30:17In previous episodes that the Audi GT has returned and it's coming
- 30:22in the form of an e tron package.
- 30:24Gorgeous car.
- 30:25It has that low slung roof, you know, everything that, you know, the A5 has
- 30:29become now as well, where it's actually a four door, but it looks like a
- 30:32coupe, all that super high price tag.
- 30:35Awesome specs.
- 30:36There's some, there's an article that we came across.
- 30:38from electric.
- 30:39co where they've gotten a chance to finally drive one of these.
- 30:42So they give their whole review on that.
- 30:44I highly recommend checking it out.
- 30:46I don't know when exactly we're going to get them here.
- 30:48Stateside, probably 22 from what I'm seeing, but there's more interesting
- 30:53news going on at VAG right now.
- 30:55And it surrounds Lamborghini.
- 30:58Many of you may or may not.
- 30:59Have heard.
- 31:00And I saw this come across my desk first while I was surfing on garage
- 31:03riot, that Volkswagen was offered 9.
- 31:062 billion.
- 31:08That's what the B to sell Lamborghini Volkswagen did the wizard of Oz and
- 31:13said, not no way, not know how there isn't enough money yet for them to sell
- 31:18off their aging R8 platform to another conglomerate to pick up and run with.
- 31:23And the reason is.
- 31:25that Volkswagen has plans for Lamborghini, and they've announced that they're going
- 31:30all electric with the Lambo's by 2025.
- 31:33This is coming in three stages.
- 31:36Lamborghini's future in the next couple of years is actually going to
- 31:39follow suit with everything that's going on, you know, with the E E tron
- 31:42and Porsche, they're going to go in that direction where it's going to be
- 31:45a combination of petrol and hybrid.
- 31:48So they're going to go that way, but you're still going to be able to
- 31:50get your V12 and V10 Lamborghinis, you know, all that craziness.
- 31:53And then you're going to have like the curves, you know, the
- 31:55boost button and go, go for it.
- 31:57They say that the cyan.
- 31:59Is going to be the first Lamborghini to have hybridization, and that's gonna come
- 32:04out in 20 23, 20 24, which is actually kind of cool just in time for lemons.
- 32:10So maybe we'll see something going on there as well.
- 32:12We're gonna talk more about SSA and WEC later in the episode, but they're gonna
- 32:16go full electric in stage three in 2025 through 2029, where all models will cease
- 32:23to have petrol engines at that point.
- 32:25So it sounds to me like.
- 32:27Volkswagen's got a six to eight year plan for Lambo, and they're not really
- 32:32ready to give up on it quite yet.
- 32:34First of all, back to the offer.
- 32:35It feels like some drunk billionaires got together and said, Hey, I
- 32:38think I want to buy Lamborghini.
- 32:39I'm gonna offer some money.
- 32:40I would totally do the same thing.
- 32:42Yeah, you know, it's, it's kind of disappointing.
- 32:44I mean, that's the way everything's going.
- 32:45But you know, you think about Uh, particularly the
- 32:48Italian supercars and things.
- 32:49You want to hear that you want to hear that engine rumble.
- 32:52And I mean, I know that Porsche said recently that the nine 11 would be the
- 32:56last car for them to convert to electric, but we know it's going to happen.
- 33:00I guess we're going to be old school in 10 years or 15 years and want that rumble.
- 33:04But again, I go back to the collector market.
- 33:07To me, this is good news for all current gas powered Lambos, right?
- 33:10Buy them now while you can.
- 33:12Guy rotors, whatever you can get.
- 33:13Cause I just think, you know, the difference is going to be important.
- 33:16Talked about early in the.
- 33:17Show at what point is fast, not the metric to measure anymore.
- 33:22I mean, we've already got the Tesla roadster that that'll do zero to 60
- 33:25and sub one second with the, with the rocket boosters hanging out the back.
- 33:28Right.
- 33:29They've already exceeded the limits of traction and they're
- 33:31overcoming that by these boosters.
- 33:32So at some point, you know, you've got a C8 that e tron Audi
- 33:36is zero to 60 in three seconds.
- 33:37Everything is zero to 16, three seconds.
- 33:39So why are you buying a Lamborghini at that point?
- 33:42Is it the styling?
- 33:43It's not the sound anymore, not the performance anymore.
- 33:45So I know they're kind of in a, there's not really much we can do about it,
- 33:49but I feel like they're on borrowed time as far as what that means.
- 33:53And I think you're right.
- 33:54Even about the styling.
- 33:55I'm not a huge fan of these Lambo concepts I'm seeing for the next six years.
- 33:59I think they're all going the way of the Veneno and the Senna, and they're just.
- 34:05Too perfect because they're designed in CAD to be perfect.
- 34:09But they've lost the flair of like a Kuntosh or Diablo or a Tesserosa.
- 34:14It's not just the name that gets you excited.
- 34:17Because when I say those names, petroheads get excited.
- 34:19Kuntosh, you're
- 34:20like,
- 34:20Oh, you know, you immediately think David Hasselhoff.
- 34:22But what, what ends up happening though, is they were trendsetters.
- 34:26They were breaking the mold.
- 34:27They were bucking the system and saying, this is what we think is awesome.
- 34:31Either you love it or you hate it.
- 34:32The Kutosh is one of those cars, but most people do love it, but they're outlandish.
- 34:37They're crazy.
- 34:37They're not functional.
- 34:38They're complete form over function.
- 34:41Unlike the Germans who are traditionally very clinical, you know, very,
- 34:44you know, pristine about things.
- 34:46Everything's very, very functional.
- 34:47And then style kind of comes later.
- 34:49I don't know the new Lambos.
- 34:51It's a hard pill to swallow.
- 34:52And I'm, and you're right.
- 34:53I don't want to see Lamborghinis go the way of the Condor and become completely
- 34:57extinct, but it's just, maybe there's a time and a place for everything.
- 35:02You know, there's a reason Packards aren't still around.
- 35:04Let's, let's just say that.
- 35:05Well, and it was cool, right?
- 35:06You know, you, you think about back in the eighties or the sixties or
- 35:10whenever the reason you bought those cars was for their performance.
- 35:13You bought a Lamborghini because it was faster than anything else.
- 35:15And you guys remember when the 911 turbo hit.
- 35:18You know, sub three and a half seconds.
- 35:19It was, Oh my God, we can't get any faster than that.
- 35:21And now the Ford lightning will probably do zero to 63.
- 35:24I know the new Tesla truck will, so you're not buying Lamborghini for that anymore.
- 35:28And who knows?
- 35:29It's going to be one of those shifts where we're not going to see it coming,
- 35:32but maybe styling is, you know, the way the future, maybe it's coach building
- 35:36again, because you don't really have to, and the engineering people listening to
- 35:39this will argue with me, but zero to 60, you don't have to be super aerodynamic.
- 35:43I mean, not anymore because you've got the power.
- 35:45Chrysler
- 35:45says all every day.
- 35:46Okay.
- 35:47All I need is a thousand horsepower.
- 35:48So we'll have bricks that'll do zero to 60 in three point
- 35:52seconds and they'll be gorgeous.
- 35:53So, you know, the ID Ford finally has made its debut over the
- 35:57last couple of weeks or months.
- 35:58And I have seen a couple of them, not as many as Broncos that I've seen, but
- 36:05one or two, I have seen out on the road.
- 36:07They also aren't horrible to look at.
- 36:09I like the way she put that.
- 36:10My
- 36:11expectations for all these, these days are the bar is low.
- 36:17And I'm not a fan of trucks and SUVs and all these compact crossovers, which to me
- 36:22are just hatchbacks on stilts essentially.
- 36:25And so why not just have a hatchback, uh, that's lower to the ground, but whatever.
- 36:28So, you know, the ID four came out first and kind of as their dedicated ev right.
- 36:34They also, you know, at the time it was kind of like a back and forth,
- 36:37I think between the ID four or the ID three, which one's it gonna be?
- 36:41And the ID three is the hatchback.
- 36:43If you will, it is a golf, essentially a smaller, yeah.
- 36:48And you know, there was a little bit of hemming and hawing.
- 36:50Do we, do we bring the ID three, but give it more, you know, more GTI in this, but
- 36:54they ended up going with the ID four.
- 36:56And with regards to GTI in this, there are plans for that for both the ID
- 37:01four and the ID three and the ID four.
- 37:03Again, we'll get the package first and it's.
- 37:06going to carry over I think to all the electric brands and it'll no
- 37:10longer be GTI, but it will be GTX.
- 37:13So there will be a GTX version of the ID.
- 37:164 and there will be a GTX version of the ID.
- 37:203 coming out, which makes it sportier and drift mode and all this stuff.
- 37:25Can we just continue to have nice things?
- 37:28Why do they have to change everything?
- 37:29Exactly.
- 37:30Why does every new car need a drift mode?
- 37:32How many people do you know that can drift?
- 37:34I don't know any.
- 37:35I'm sure there are people, but the BMWs and the Volkswagens and everything else
- 37:38with this drift mode is driving me crazy.
- 37:40Well, it's not really practical if you're someone whose hobby
- 37:43is to go do drift competitions, you're going to have an actual car
- 37:48that has been designed and set up
- 37:50and has the proper steering articulation to drift.
- 37:53And it's probably a Nissan
- 37:54Silvia
- 37:55when you're going to the grocery store, three blocks away, you
- 37:58know, you don't need drift mode,
- 38:00except if you're Andrew bank.
- 38:01And if you're listening, yes.
- 38:04That would make grocery shopping a lot more fun, though.
- 38:06But going back to this ID3, the thing that kills me, like, and, you know,
- 38:10Hazmat will tell us all the time, badge engineering has been a thing for 40
- 38:15years now, you know, let's slap a badge on it, it suddenly makes it special.
- 38:19The GTX thing, it kind of eats me a little bit because The old moniker, at least in
- 38:24the Volkswagen world was the GLX, right?
- 38:26They've always had that, you know, the Passat GLXs and the,
- 38:29the Jetta GLX and stuff like that.
- 38:31We could have easily brought that back.
- 38:32The GT scram touring.
- 38:35I get it just like us GTM.
- 38:37Right.
- 38:37But I don't know, GTE, I guess that's an Opel thing.
- 38:40That would make sense.
- 38:41Right.
- 38:42And it would make more sense than GTX has always been reserved for four
- 38:45wheel drive in a lot of cases, like the X drive and the BMWs and GTX, my
- 38:50mind, when you said that immediately went to the Mazda three, two, three
- 38:54from the eighties, the GTX, right?
- 38:56Because it was the all wheel drive Mazda three, two, three.
- 38:58So for me, I guess, because I grew up in that era, it's, it's just word
- 39:02association, but, uh, I don't know.
- 39:04It just becomes alphabet soup.
- 39:06ID3GTX.
- 39:07Blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 39:08It's whatever.
- 39:08I looked at it.
- 39:09I, um, to your point, Tanya, it's the evolution.
- 39:11I think it's where the Polo and the GTI are going to intersect.
- 39:15And that's what we're going to be left with after they decide that we're
- 39:17done with the FARP cans and the two liter turbo and everything else that
- 39:21comes with the GTI and the Golf R.
- 39:22So in another round of infinite wisdom, we'll see how this plays out.
- 39:26They're doing some sort of tests.
- 39:29in Greece trying to, I guess, foster green mobility and all this stuff.
- 39:34They're sending all these what look like IV4s to Greece.
- 39:37To do what?
- 39:38I don't know.
- 39:39This one is, is livery as if it's a police car, which is pretty cool.
- 39:42It does look neat.
- 39:43I will give you that.
- 39:44I have an ID for a police car, but I mean, you're going to put your eggs in my back.
- 39:48I actually like this idea a lot.
- 39:50And the reason I say this is to me, you know, you imagine that you're
- 39:53on a Greek island somewhere, you've got to get fuel to the island.
- 39:57You know, the more self supported you could be the better.
- 40:00And I think, you know, if islands are able to convert to solar power and some other
- 40:04things, I don't think this is a bad idea.
- 40:06And the last time I was on a Greek island, I was on an ATV and a
- 40:10lot of people were too, so, you know, transportation isn't really.
- 40:14As much of a thing there.
- 40:15So I don't know.
- 40:16I don't mind this one too much.
- 40:17I think it's kind of
- 40:18a cool idea.
- 40:18I got two words for you.
- 40:19Jurassic park.
- 40:21They use quote unquote, self driving autonomous, electric Ford Explorers.
- 40:26Remember how that turned out?
- 40:27This is, this is the sequel.
- 40:29All right.
- 40:29So you're saying now this Greek island is going to attract dinosaurs and
- 40:33it's going to swallow up everything.
- 40:34I see.
- 40:35I see.
- 40:35Okay.
- 40:37Not to be outdone.
- 40:39We have a theme to continue here.
- 40:41It's twofold.
- 40:42There's large horsepower number, a small displacement.
- 40:47Or is it the last of the dinosaurs?
- 40:50And take my money now, please.
- 40:52Because on principle, you can take my money on this.
- 40:56Yes, I've been perfectly fine with another five cylinder Audi in my life.
- 41:00What?
- 41:01Yes.
- 41:02I was shocked because the five cylinder had gone the way of the dinosaurs already
- 41:07a number of years ago, unfortunately, or fortunately, some people might
- 41:10say, but the five cylinder motor, good motor from Audi, got one that's
- 41:1536 years strong, and it sounds nice.
- 41:20Like a pterodactyl with its tail on fire.
- 41:23That's what it sounds
- 41:24like.
- 41:24I love the rasp of a five cylinder.
- 41:26So the 2022 Audi RS three is going to be a turbo five cylinder, making
- 41:33401 horsepowers from 2.5 liters.
- 41:37That's good numbers.
- 41:38That's better than that Ford 7.
- 41:393 liter that we talked about earlier.
- 41:42Think about that.
- 41:43Can it tow?
- 41:44No, it can't tow.
- 41:45Next.
- 41:46But I have to say the five cylinder did make a resurgence with the TTRS
- 41:51and with the Mark V Volkswagen's right back in the late 2000s.
- 41:56And it's been around off and on.
- 41:57The previous RS3 had a five cylinder turbo borrowed from the TTRS, but
- 42:01it hasn't been their mainstay.
- 42:03Motor used to be the thing you bought an Audi.
- 42:05You got a five cylinder I'm with you.
- 42:07It is kind of the last of the dodo birds, but on the same token, it's one
- 42:11of those weird motors that I've always compared to like a diesel, it makes
- 42:16more torque than it makes horsepower.
- 42:17It's got the acceleration of a four with the kind of power output of a six.
- 42:21It doesn't, it's got an identity crisis.
- 42:23It doesn't know what it wants to be, but at the same time,
- 42:25it's, it's freaking awesome.
- 42:27And if you turn the boost up to 11.
- 42:29Not pounds, but like spinal tap up to 11, they're wicked.
- 42:34I mean, incredible amounts of horsepower.
- 42:35And if you look at the legacy of the five cylinder, especially the rally cars, and I
- 42:39don't want to nerd out because, you know, I'm a rally fan, but a single turbo 2.
- 42:441 liter in the S1 was making 750 horsepower back in the eighties.
- 42:50There is so much potential and power in that motor.
- 42:53It's incredible.
- 42:54It puts a lot of other engines to shame.
- 42:56It's nice to me that somebody doubt he's paying attention, right?
- 42:59You know, that, that five cylinder is classic and, you know, it makes you
- 43:02look at other companies, you know, we talked about earlier, you know,
- 43:05Volkswagen kind of going off mark a little bit and, you know, of course, BMW
- 43:08with their crazy nomenclature, right?
- 43:10Is it a four door three series?
- 43:12Is it a two doors, you know, all that kind of thing.
- 43:14And this to me is somebody, while most people won't know or
- 43:17care that it's a five cylinder.
- 43:19A lot of people will.
- 43:20And I think that's really says something about protecting that
- 43:23heritage and really keeping that alive.
- 43:24I think it's really cool, but I will say it's also interesting.
- 43:27This car is going to make 400 horsepower in is roughly 3.
- 43:314 seconds, zero to 60.
- 43:32That's pretty stout, especially when you compare it with a lot of the EVs
- 43:34that we were talking about earlier, you know, you look at the current
- 43:36Corvette and you know, I haven't raced them, but I would assume, you know,
- 43:40a Corvette and this car next to each other, you know, four tenths of a second
- 43:43off is probably not that big a deal.
- 43:45And it's pretty cool that they're still making that kind of speed in it.
- 43:47So as we transition away from automotive news, we want to touch on Brad's favorite
- 43:51new section, which is lost and found.
- 43:53And, you know, it's really awesome and actually quite special that we have
- 43:57Donovan on this particular episode to talk about lost and found because some of
- 44:01his expertise is in the car show world, in the auction world, in the, you know,
- 44:06exotic car and high ends types of stuff.
- 44:08So he's got a lot of background in this.
- 44:09So we selected some articles to discuss with him back and forth.
- 44:12And the first one that came up, which I actually happened to snag off of
- 44:15garage ride, and I don't remember.
- 44:16Who posted this, but it has to do with Nicholas Cage's car collection
- 44:19and all jokes aside about his current career and method acting and all
- 44:23the divorces he has to pay for.
- 44:25He's actually got a pretty cool collection of cars.
- 44:29Now it's not going to rival Tim Allen or Jay Leno, but I want to rattle off
- 44:33some of the cars in his collection and Donovan, maybe get your opinion about
- 44:37some of the stuff he's got in his stable.
- 44:39He's got a Diablo VT.
- 44:40He's got a Miura SPJ.
- 44:42He's got a Lamborghini 350 GT starting to see a theme here.
- 44:46He's got an Enzo, a 599 GTB, along with a bunch of other cars.
- 44:52I think it's incredible.
- 44:53I mean, you know, you look at he's got a Jag D type, he's got Bugatti type 57 C.
- 44:59To me, it's Primo.
- 45:00He doesn't have the random, although this Eleanor and I get it right.
- 45:04Of all the people that should have an Eleanor Mustang, it should be him.
- 45:06But I, I.
- 45:06Can't stay in those cars just because of the cheesiness of it.
- 45:09But yeah, I mean, you know, if, if you were to have a Lambo collection,
- 45:13I mean, the Mura and the three 50 GT and the Diablos are the ones to have.
- 45:16So he seems to have the ones, you know, in each of the genres, he's got an Enzo.
- 45:20I mean, he's got a California spider.
- 45:22So I actually, I've always liked Nicholas Cage, but, uh, I have a
- 45:26little bit more respect for him after seeing this list for sure.
- 45:29Yeah.
- 45:29And like we talked about on the episode with Paula Wymoski, there's a lot of folks
- 45:33in Hollywood that are petrol heads, and we can now add Nicolas Cage to the list right
- 45:38up there with Paul Walker and Jay Leno and a lot of other folks in Hollywood that
- 45:43have kind of hidden collections of cars.
- 45:45So it was really cool to see this when it came across my desk.
- 45:48I think it's incredible also because I thought it was bankrupt.
- 45:51So the fact that he even has these cars.
- 45:53Pretty impressive.
- 45:54Well, there's that too.
- 45:55We got to pay for those divorces somehow.
- 45:57That's all I'm saying.
- 45:58So what else do we have on Lost and Found this month, Donovan?
- 46:00So do I have to do my best Brad voice to, to give you this one?
- 46:04So a very, very special Corvette was found, you know, one of the legendary
- 46:08race cars, one of the originals.
- 46:09Strangely enough, it was found on an ad listed as a Zagato of some sort.
- 46:15So the, the owner finds this car that had raced at Lamar and
- 46:19Sebring and had, uh, even done top is a potential driver at Lamar.
- 46:23And, uh, after the car was bought, they checked the VIN number and
- 46:27came to find out it was one of three very special race cars.
- 46:29So, you know, somebody won the lottery that day for sure.
- 46:32And pretty interesting.
- 46:33And as far as I know, the other two cars are around in a museum somewhere.
- 46:38And I think that's what this one's destined for after restoration.
- 46:41So they ran a car fax.
- 46:42I mean, I gotta start checking.
- 46:43I gotta start checking more cars because, you know, I'd see something
- 46:46like that, especially when you see the pictures of it, it's old, it's beat
- 46:48up, it's got the patina and everything.
- 46:50And you're just like, I don't even want to bother with that, you know,
- 46:52but some gracious soul out there was like, man, I'm going to hop on
- 46:55this Corvette because it is a C1.
- 46:57So there's that attraction.
- 46:58If you're into those old fifties Corvettes and whatnot, but man, to stumble upon,
- 47:01you know, that extra little bonus Easter egg there of being a historic car.
- 47:05I But what did it sell for?
- 47:07758, 000 at Amelia Island, actually a few weeks ago.
- 47:12And everybody probably laughed when they pulled that thing.
- 47:14Go look at that rat rod that they just brought into the show.
- 47:16Right.
- 47:16It's in terrible condition.
- 47:18Yeah.
- 47:18And you know, to me, it's, you know, you look at people talk about, well,
- 47:21don't restore it, keep it original.
- 47:22But, uh, you know, the, the guy that acquired the car after it did
- 47:25its racing, you know, kind of did a number on it and put his own.
- 47:29Take on it.
- 47:29We'll say, so it needs to call those mods.
- 47:32We call it, well, you know, the fact that it, uh, it was listed as a
- 47:35Pontiac Zagato when it was listed in the classified, but you know, I'm more
- 47:39curious about the guy that bought it.
- 47:40What would you think if somebody listed a Pontiac Zagato, that
- 47:43would be a no for me, but yeah,
- 47:46right.
- 47:46I would have mistaken it for an Aztec and just kept on
- 47:49scrolling, but you know, whatever.
- 47:51So speaking of piles of junk,
- 47:53yeah, so recently, uh, Jaguar, uh, XK one 50 sold in a tree
- 47:59mangled condition for 127, 000.
- 48:03I didn't quite understand this when I read a little bit more about it.
- 48:06The article was a little misleading.
- 48:07It's actually a XK one 50 S and there were only a handful of
- 48:11those, I think 50 of them made.
- 48:13So even with the front end crushed in, it was still, I guess, a a steal.
- 48:18But it's, it's going to take a lot of work.
- 48:20That's for sure.
- 48:20These cars in, in regular condition, I think are upwards of,
- 48:23you know, in the seven figures.
- 48:25So maybe somebody got a deal.
- 48:27I don't know, but you know, it'd be interesting to the next owner to see
- 48:30what the history of this car was.
- 48:31That would, would be hard to explain.
- 48:33It had some mechanical damage and some cosmetic work.
- 48:36It is mangled for sure.
- 48:38So since you're in this arena and you're looking at cars all the
- 48:41time and buying and keep an eye on, you know, bring a trailer.
- 48:43And I know we bat this out.
- 48:44Back and forth on the regular about how crazy bring a trailers become.
- 48:48And I'm sure you have your opinions about that, but if you are in the market and
- 48:52you're looking for a collector card, like what's on your top five list right now?
- 48:56Like what are you eyeballing?
- 48:57What do you think is a good deal right now?
- 48:59If people were interested in picking something up.
- 49:00I'm always in the market.
- 49:01I actually trying to figure out what my next purchase is going to be to
- 49:04the point that I had to whiteboard it out and reorg some things.
- 49:07So, you know, for me, there's different levels.
- 49:10There's the collectability of it, there's the fun factor, and
- 49:13then there's the kind of combo.
- 49:14So, you know, to me, I think there's varying degrees.
- 49:17I've moved them into price points really.
- 49:20And, uh, you know, we talked about this on GarageRite sometimes, you
- 49:22know, I think in the 50, 000 market, probably a Skyline R32 GTR or R33.
- 49:29Now those are 50 to 75, depending.
- 49:32I think that's good value.
- 49:33Closer to a hundred.
- 49:34The launch of Delta Evo twos are great, and you know, I've watched
- 49:37those for about a year now.
- 49:38Last year you could find some in the high forties, fifties, now they're a hundred.
- 49:42Depending on the special editions, they may go to a buck and a quarter.
- 49:45Oddly enough, and this would be no surprise to you, I've been
- 49:47watching the 2002 Turbos, the BMWs in the past two years.
- 49:51I've seen 'em sell from one 15 to 1 72, I think was the most recent.
- 49:56They're all over the place and, and that might be where I pull the trigger.
- 49:59The problem with them is they're hard to find.
- 50:01There's one for sale in Belgium right now and actually looked into financing
- 50:05and you can't, uh, finance cross country.
- 50:07Unfortunately, I have a lead on one coming in from Japan, which is pretty crazy.
- 50:11I think that's where it's at.
- 50:12And then, uh, you know, as you move up into the, the two hundreds, the
- 50:15Ferrari five, 12 BB, I think is amazing.
- 50:18The F 12 was one of my favorites, but I think they're on their way
- 50:21down, hopefully making their way up.
- 50:22But, uh, they're all over the place.
- 50:24And, and, you know, I'm a fan of the Gallardo still not collectible
- 50:27by any means, but a lot of fun.
- 50:29And, you know, if you find the right one, you can get them for, for
- 50:31around a hundred.
- 50:33So are you considering them as an investment, you know, longer term, or you,
- 50:37is it more of like the collector and the boy racer, I want to have that car, like.
- 50:41What's the recommendation when you're looking at these types of gray market
- 50:45cars and we're used to like, Oh, I can just go get a nine 11 turbo and spend
- 50:48a hundred thousand dollars, right.
- 50:49Or, or, or Supra or something like that.
- 50:51What's the appeal.
- 50:52Why go into that market?
- 50:54Exactly.
- 50:54It's almost this FOMO of, I want to buy it before it goes up.
- 50:58And you can see a lot of them, you know, the mark one GTI.
- 51:00Those cars were five grand for years.
- 51:04There's one, I don't know if it's still for sale.
- 51:05I saw it a couple of weeks ago.
- 51:06It has, uh, I think 70, 000 miles and they want 35, 000 for it.
- 51:10It's immaculate.
- 51:11It's gorgeous.
- 51:12That sounds unreasonable now, but in a year, that's probably going to be a deal.
- 51:16You know, you look at the E30 M3 and it took me years to finally buy one.
- 51:20And when I did.
- 51:20I bought the first one the year before they went crazy.
- 51:24And then after they went crazy, I'd sold that one and bought another one.
- 51:27So really I think it's watching the market.
- 51:28And to me, it's buying a car that I know is going to make money that GTI.
- 51:32If you can find one in the teams, you know, you know, maybe
- 51:35you'll gain five grand on it.
- 51:37You know, you buy a GTR for 65 right now, your margin will be a
- 51:40little better, but that, and I just want to own every car in the world.
- 51:44If I had a bigger garage, I sure would.
- 51:46And I I'm down a few cars.
- 51:47Now I sold one, uh, one of my cars last week, but it's really just a space issue.
- 51:51But, you know, I think it's the real life version of hot wheels, right?
- 51:54We all had all the hot wheels that we thought really cool.
- 51:56And if we could have each of those, we would too.
- 51:58So that's really kind of what it is for me.
- 51:59There's a bunch of cars for auction right now in Kansas that you could
- 52:02scoop up pretty quick, but I'm not sure that you'd be too interested in.
- 52:05Did you hear about this?
- 52:06I did the trans ams, right?
- 52:07That's a barn full of basically smoking the banded trans ams, you
- 52:11know, seventies era trans ams.
- 52:13Now, are they really that desirable compared to the stuff you, you
- 52:16know, you're looking at maybe in a different genre or market?
- 52:18Man, that's a good question.
- 52:19I've never been really into that.
- 52:21You know, I think trans ams are really cool.
- 52:23I actually liked the early fireworks, you know, the, the first, first ones
- 52:25I think are super cool, but, you know, it was amazing to me that.
- 52:28The high value version out of that group is the 74 super duty, the 455 V8.
- 52:34And a terrible name for that car.
- 52:36It sounds like a truck, right?
- 52:37Super duty.
- 52:38Those are super cool.
- 52:39I mean, I think when you look at it, you got to say, okay, well, if there
- 52:41was one to have, that's probably it.
- 52:43But, you know, I worry about the, you know, the market on muscle cars,
- 52:46you know, the, the bubble is burst.
- 52:48So it's kind of a drop.
- 52:49Yeah, exactly.
- 52:50Proceed with caution.
- 52:51It's all the euros in the Japanese cars that we never got, which are being
- 52:55brought in now that they're 20 plus years old through the gray market.
- 52:57You're seeing 959s and F40s on U.
- 53:00S.
- 53:00roads, which were never D.
- 53:01O.
- 53:02T.
- 53:02approved because they're so old now.
- 53:04And so the prices of them have gone through the roof.
- 53:06And we talked about this before.
- 53:07Before, but to circle back on those trans amps, I think the only person
- 53:11that would get super excited about that and also happens to be in Kansas.
- 53:14And if you don't watch a show on YouTube is who V of who V's garage.
- 53:18I mean, he's going to be all over these things.
- 53:20I'm sure he'll do a lemons race with a couple of them, you know, tearing
- 53:23them apart, giving away to his friends.
- 53:25But if you've watched his show, it's, it's pretty hilarious.
- 53:28He's always buying and selling cars, kind of like you as well.
- 53:30He's got a, you know, a huge collection of stuff.
- 53:32I just, one last thing before we move on.
- 53:34What do you think about bring a trailer?
- 53:37You know, for some of us, it was like, like racing junk where you went there
- 53:40and you kind of salivated and went, man, I could get a good deal on this car.
- 53:43It's kind of evolved over the last couple of years.
- 53:45Do you think it's out of control or is it still a good high water, you know,
- 53:49litmus test for these collectible cars?
- 53:52Yeah, I think it's changed.
- 53:53You know, I've been on bring a trailer for years and actually bought
- 53:55a 67 dots and 1600 off it years ago from California and got a deal.
- 53:59And I think in the early days, you know, the guy that started it, he would go
- 54:02to all these random websites and then find all the cool cars and post them
- 54:06on bring a trailer, you know, to let people know, Hey, this one's for sale.
- 54:09This is really cool.
- 54:10And then it evolved as it got more popular.
- 54:12And then when they sold it.
- 54:13I think they sold it to road and track.
- 54:14Didn't they last year?
- 54:16You know, now it's flipped.
- 54:17It's no longer the place to get a deal.
- 54:19It's the place to go get top dollar for your car.
- 54:21So I think it serves its purpose that way.
- 54:24They do have a four week lead time.
- 54:25I found out recently.
- 54:26So if you want to sell something, it's going to take you a while,
- 54:27but you know, good for them.
- 54:29They just passed their 5, 000th auction or something crazy like that.
- 54:33So they're, they're really rocking there.
- 54:35I remember when it
- 54:35was just classifieds, bring a trailer, let's transition a little bit.
- 54:39I think we have a couple oddballs here as we wrap.
- 54:42up this entire segment on automotive and industry news.
- 54:45And there's a car I want to get your opinion on.
- 54:47And there's a term that invokes a reaction.
- 54:50And the term is boat tail.
- 54:52For those of us that are in the classic car community, boat tail was
- 54:56usually associated with a Auburn's but Rolls Royce has recently debuted
- 55:02their boat tail for 2022 23 timeframe.
- 55:06What do you think about that car?
- 55:08I think it's pretty cool.
- 55:08You know, we talked earlier about what are, what are
- 55:10manufacturers going to do anymore?
- 55:11They have to kind of zigzag a little bit.
- 55:13I think this is, this is one of those, right?
- 55:15And, you know, they, they claim they're building three of them.
- 55:17The first one they built here, I think it's a little bit of a stretch to call
- 55:21it a boat tail, you know, particularly when you think about the way the Auburn
- 55:24boat tail kind of came to a point in the end, this looks more like they
- 55:27put some teak wood on the back and called it a day, but I think it's cool.
- 55:31And I think they've got to do something different.
- 55:33You know, if you ask somebody today, the difference on all the
- 55:36Rolls Royce models or all the BMW models, they all look the same.
- 55:39Hopefully we're starting to see that kind of coach builder aspect of it.
- 55:43Come back and certainly for the well heeled, right.
- 55:46You can go to rolls and if you had enough money, you could have them
- 55:48build you whatever you wanted to.
- 55:49But I think it's exciting.
- 55:50It's different.
- 55:51And it's, it's really cool to see some new things that we're not seeing before.
- 55:54And maybe it'll inspire the industry and we'll start getting back
- 55:56to some of those older designs.
- 55:58Absolutely.
- 55:58Because
- 55:59like you said, we don't really need.
- 56:01A design that cheats the wind on everything.
- 56:03So we could go back to big swooping fenders and round headlights and more
- 56:06like a Packard or early Cadillac design, or even the old Rolls Royces and Bentleys
- 56:10from the old days, because why not?
- 56:12Right.
- 56:13Zero to 63 seconds in those things.
- 56:15And they probably weigh less than that number that we talked about earlier.
- 56:18Now, I will say when I saw the Rolls Royce, the color gets you right away.
- 56:22That blue is super cool.
- 56:24I'm with you in it, not being a boat tail.
- 56:26I kind of wanted to call it the picnic basket and maybe rename it the Yogi.
- 56:30The Rolls Royce Yogi bear, right?
- 56:32Cause it's, it's more picnic basket with that, that kind of clamshell goldwing type
- 56:37opening that it's got back there versus, you know, what the Auburn had, which was
- 56:41just that fixed rear end of basically a wooden boat and a kind of cool.
- 56:45But again, let's, let's push the boundary.
- 56:47Let's do the Lamborghini thing and come up with something different, you
- 56:50know, and really push it out there.
- 56:51And speaking of different,
- 56:53we don't talk about motorcycles very much, but there is a French
- 56:57company that is unveiling that they're going to build a prototype.
- 57:00For what is being called a super capacitor or ultra capacitor
- 57:05hybrid electric motorcycle.
- 57:07So not quite the same as the battery pack, like all the EVs right now, but instead
- 57:12of using basically capacitor technology, which is slightly different and there's
- 57:17no chemical reactions taking place that everything is electrostatically contained.
- 57:21So there's very quick discharges and also recharges.
- 57:25So that's kind of a benefit against batteries.
- 57:28You'd be able to recharge them faster.
- 57:29They're also alleged to cycle better, meaning you can go through many cycles
- 57:35of discharge, recharge, et cetera, more so than conventional batteries, which
- 57:41get battery degradation after a while.
- 57:43So, you know, there's some pros to it.
- 57:45There's some obvious cons to it as well.
- 57:47It's not going to be something that.
- 57:49Can handle long trips, things of that nature.
- 57:53You're not going to go cruising on the highway with big
- 57:55headwinds and things like that.
- 57:56This is really geared towards specifically urban motorcycling.
- 58:01Stop and go.
- 58:02You're just running here to there.
- 58:05And it's very futuristic looking.
- 58:07The way you describe that in some ways, people may be skeptical of
- 58:11this particular motorcycle, but if you look at the history of Honda.
- 58:15This is how the Cub started.
- 58:16It was a go to here to there to the grocery store right around town.
- 58:20It mobilized an entire workforce in Japan post war and all that kind of stuff.
- 58:24So maybe they're onto something, right?
- 58:26We got to start small, just like Honda did and build up to something bigger.
- 58:30Now I'm really surprised Honda hasn't gone in this direction
- 58:32with their history in motorcycles.
- 58:35But again, if you're off the beaten path and you live in smaller
- 58:38places, this makes more sense.
- 58:40Just like electric cars might make sense in Greece.
- 58:43And
- 58:45this looks like it might be competition for the Volcon Grunt that
- 58:48we talked about last year, right?
- 58:50There's some other innovative ideas out there.
- 58:53Not all of them are good.
- 58:54And I want to share with the audience, remember to check in on our show
- 58:58notes and the follow on article that goes with this particular
- 59:01episode on a human powered vehicle.
- 59:04Vehicle, right?
- 59:04We don't need batteries.
- 59:05We don't need gasoline or diesel.
- 59:08We got human power right now.
- 59:11You might be thinking maybe the footmobile from the Flintstones.
- 59:17Oh, no, no.
- 59:18This is more akin to snidely whiplash on the railroad.
- 59:23So if you watch this video, I think it's absolutely hilarious.
- 59:25This guy basically built a kit car, kind of looks like a weird late nineties
- 59:29Camaro, and he's pumping away at it.
- 59:32Basically he builds like the kinetic energy in the system and then he drives
- 59:35along the highway and he's on open roads, which scares the crap out of me.
- 59:39No helmets, no nothing.
- 59:40I still don't understand how the suspension or the steering works, but I
- 59:44just wanted to share this with you guys.
- 59:45Cause I think it's an absolute riot.
- 59:47A hundred percent.
- 59:48It's a railroad hand car, hand trolley, pump trolley,
- 59:53whatever you want to call it.
- 59:55It's the classic.
- 59:56Back in the day, two guys that were pumping up and down on the, on
- 1:00:01the lever back and forth, and they were rolling down the train tracks.
- 1:00:05That's what this is.
- 1:00:06Okay.
- 1:00:07It's a bicycle that you don't use your legs with.
- 1:00:10You pump the pedals with your hands.
- 1:00:14I think it's super, super cool and you know, the guy is clearly smoking
- 1:00:18something by coming up with the invention, but the fact that it's 38,
- 1:00:21000 pounds to buy is incredible, right?
- 1:00:25But it is super, super cool.
- 1:00:27I mean, it, you know, it almost makes you wonder why we didn't just go this route.
- 1:00:30Right.
- 1:00:30It'd be a kindler, friendlier, friendlier, you know, way to mode of transportation.
- 1:00:35Cause leg day, bro.
- 1:00:36I
- 1:00:36mean, who
- 1:00:37wants arms like the rock to go to work?
- 1:00:40That is true.
- 1:00:41Well, you know, what cracks me up about this is somebody would eventually find
- 1:00:43a way to automate that rowing process.
- 1:00:46And then it would be just, you know, another gas, somebody hook up their
- 1:00:48gasoline powered lawnmower to it.
- 1:00:50So it cranks that thing.
- 1:00:52And then we're back at hybrid again.
- 1:00:53Oh, you mean a car?
- 1:00:59We'd be remiss if we didn't move into our next section, which is the Tesla news.
- 1:01:05Oh God.
- 1:01:05Here we go.
- 1:01:06Outline on all things Tesla, not all things Tesla.
- 1:01:10We do cover some other, uh, interesting topics here, but
- 1:01:13we always start off with Tesla.
- 1:01:14So without further ado, the, uh, Plaid edition of the model S.
- 1:01:20Is finally slated to arrive.
- 1:01:23It is happening, and it is going to be the quote, fastest production
- 1:01:28car ever, according to Mr.
- 1:01:31Musk,
- 1:01:32until the Roadster hits the street,
- 1:01:34until something else.
- 1:01:35Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:01:37Until the lucid air, uh, the labor.
- 1:01:39I don't say in,
- 1:01:40I mean, come on,
- 1:01:41this is, well, this is the one that.
- 1:01:42The thousand horsepower, blah, blah, blah, which I think the lucid air alleges 1100.
- 1:01:49So the lucid air is supposed to debut, I think this year.
- 1:01:52So if it does come out, maybe.
- 1:01:54That will be the fastest production car ever.
- 1:01:56Now there was a plaid plus edition, which was the one I think that got
- 1:02:02you that extra a hundred horsepower, but that has apparently been canceled
- 1:02:05because the regular plaid is just so awesome as it is, there is apparently
- 1:02:11no need for the plus edition, according to Musk, so they've canned that.
- 1:02:15Okay.
- 1:02:16Maybe somebody can answer this.
- 1:02:17If you're listening, you know, comment, write us, call us, text us, whatever.
- 1:02:21When I hear the word plaid.
- 1:02:23Two things come to mind, Braveheart and boring, right?
- 1:02:26And not because Braveheart is boring, but plaid is boring to look at.
- 1:02:30So what is the deal with this plaid name?
- 1:02:32Like, what is the significance of this?
- 1:02:34Maybe, maybe Edson can tell
- 1:02:35us.
- 1:02:36He has told me, and my understanding is, I think.
- 1:02:38I think it's a space balls reference.
- 1:02:40Like they go beyond light speed and they go plaid.
- 1:02:43I think something along those lines.
- 1:02:45So it's some kind of in the know, which is why
- 1:02:48there's ludicrous mode and all that other stuff.
- 1:02:50I might be wrong.
- 1:02:52It's something like that though.
- 1:02:53But I can tell you the, so we do mountain runs, uh, Edson has a model three, and
- 1:02:59then we have another friend that has a model S, uh, the performance and serve
- 1:03:02Perfer Monte or whatever they call it.
- 1:03:04And that car is no joke.
- 1:03:06I mean, that one is it's a couple of years old now, but it's zero to 60
- 1:03:09and two, two, and it is just crazy.
- 1:03:12But I feel like they probably discontinued the plaid plus because of what we were
- 1:03:15talking about earlier with the roadster.
- 1:03:17That's going to do zero to 60 and sub 1.
- 1:03:191.
- 1:03:20Although I know they wouldn't get a full second out of it.
- 1:03:22You know, at some point you start eating into your own market share there.
- 1:03:25I think there's the roadster that does it sub 1.
- 1:03:281 with the cannons.
- 1:03:29And then otherwise it's like 1.
- 1:03:318 or something.
- 1:03:32So.
- 1:03:32I mean, you know, Tesla is lovely.
- 1:03:36They've done a lot to disrupt the car culture and technology and all that.
- 1:03:42And that's wonderful.
- 1:03:43And that's great.
- 1:03:44But for 114, 000, I still want something else.
- 1:03:48I don't care if it has a thousand horsepower and does 2.
- 1:03:502 seconds, zero to 60, like, I want to, you know, it has a thousand horsepower.
- 1:03:54It costs,
- 1:03:55you know, it has a thousand horsepower.
- 1:03:56It costs half as much.
- 1:03:57Challenge your Hellcat.
- 1:03:58Just going to put it out there.
- 1:04:00Well, that's a good argument though.
- 1:04:01I mean, and the argument both ways is, well, you know, and I'll keep
- 1:04:04using the Roadster as an example.
- 1:04:05The Roadster is going to be two 50 and it's going to smoke any car.
- 1:04:09There is Bugatti.
- 1:04:11All of those buying these.
- 1:04:13Here's my problem with it though.
- 1:04:14All of these cars are not particularly attractive.
- 1:04:16I think they're pretty vanilla.
- 1:04:18So you pull up in a road, sort of LA and they park you in the back
- 1:04:21because they don't know any better.
- 1:04:22Right?
- 1:04:22So you pull up in your, your hurricane or your guy or your, even, you know, older
- 1:04:27stuff and they're going to go, Oh, wow.
- 1:04:29That's special.
- 1:04:29You know, even a three 60 Ferrari, which you can get for a quarter of this for half
- 1:04:33this price, you're going to be up front.
- 1:04:35That plaid is going to be in the back somewhere collecting dust.
- 1:04:37I mean, honestly, they're vanilla on the outside, the vanilla on
- 1:04:40the inside and they're vanilla.
- 1:04:42On my butt in the seat, because I've driven a model three before, and I
- 1:04:46felt like I was driving a Nissan Ultima that I got out of the Hertz rental lot.
- 1:04:52I mean, other than the fact that if you stop on it, yeah, you get thrown back in
- 1:04:56the seat because there's so much torque.
- 1:04:58Yeah.
- 1:04:58The acceleration is ridiculous in an EV, but I don't know.
- 1:05:01Maybe I need to drive a different one, but I say, you're just cruising around town.
- 1:05:05It was no different than anything else.
- 1:05:07It felt like a rental car.
- 1:05:08I wasn't blown away.
- 1:05:09I didn't feel like I was in this luxury for
- 1:05:11spending tens of thousands of dollars.
- 1:05:14And I'm with Tanya where the Tesla doesn't give me anything back.
- 1:05:17It hasn't convinced me yet that I can get rid of a GTI and have more fun.
- 1:05:22It's the fun factor for, at least for me.
- 1:05:24There's that straight line performance, but there's not that overall performance
- 1:05:27that I think, you know, like you said, it was visceral, you know, Tanya.
- 1:05:30And it's, to me, that's what I keep going back to is, yeah, it's fast in
- 1:05:34a straight line and yeah, it's faster than my car, but, uh, you know, I
- 1:05:37want to hear it, I want to hear that.
- 1:05:39I think I'd rather be in a, that Trans Am we talked about earlier, right?
- 1:05:43You feel like, well, I'm supposed to be going fast.
- 1:05:45It sounds like I'm going fast.
- 1:05:46I'm probably doing zero to 16, eight seconds, but man, it sounds
- 1:05:49good, you know, and it's smoking and I can smell it when eight
- 1:05:51seconds was fast.
- 1:05:53Like, wow, it does it in eight seconds.
- 1:05:54It's incredible.
- 1:05:56We can take the plaid to the next level with the, uh, Pikes Peak racer.
- 1:06:00Cause as we mentioned last year in the attempt at Pikes Peak, you
- 1:06:04know, we kind of joked about this.
- 1:06:05There were several episodes where we captured this and reported on it.
- 1:06:08Randy Pope's hooked up with unplugged performance, made
- 1:06:12several Pikes Peaks attempt.
- 1:06:13One time it went airborne.
- 1:06:14They did complete the run up to the sky and all that.
- 1:06:17They are returning.
- 1:06:18With a modified Tesla plaid edition and are going to attempt the race to
- 1:06:24the sky yet again, taking to the plaid to the entire next level, probably
- 1:06:28into the stratosphere because it's going to completely launch into orbit.
- 1:06:31Good on them.
- 1:06:32That's awesome.
- 1:06:32Curious to see how it turns out.
- 1:06:33I was gonna say, I'm pretty sure Randy is doing it again.
- 1:06:35I saw a video that he posted a day ago, so that'd be interesting to check out.
- 1:06:38And there's a really great show on Motor Trend about, uh, last year about
- 1:06:41them running and wrecking and things.
- 1:06:43So it's pretty cool.
- 1:06:44Boring company.
- 1:06:46I take that as you will.
- 1:06:48That's a real thing, right?
- 1:06:49That's, that's called the boring company.
- 1:06:50She sounds
- 1:06:51excited.
- 1:06:51But it's like boring through something.
- 1:06:54This is the boring company that's making the underground hyperloop.
- 1:06:58If you remember tunnels in Las Vegas, where the Teslas were going
- 1:07:02to ride on skates at high speed, fully autonomous and zip you through,
- 1:07:07you know, these underground tubes.
- 1:07:09So you could move out Las Vegas without.
- 1:07:12Walking around in a hundred million degree heat and all the traffic
- 1:07:16and congestion and all that.
- 1:07:17So they finally, uh, completed a 1.
- 1:07:205 mile loop and it's not quite as promised.
- 1:07:25So yes, as most things, yes, there are these tunnels underground.
- 1:07:31Yes, a Tesla vehicle drives through them, but no, they're not on whatever
- 1:07:36these alleged skates were going to be.
- 1:07:39No, they're not self driving.
- 1:07:41And no, they cannot go at high speed.
- 1:07:43So they are driven and they cannot exceed 35 miles an hour.
- 1:07:46And it's basically a car that drives through an
- 1:07:49underground tunnel.
- 1:07:49So what you're telling me is Tesla has an Uber service in Vegas right now, and
- 1:07:55it was replaced by the existing monorail.
- 1:07:58That already does everything you describe taking people from, you know,
- 1:08:02one place to the other doing a loop and they don't have to walk or be in,
- 1:08:05you know, the sun, you know, the way I read it and the way I looked at it.
- 1:08:08It's like the scariest small world ride.
- 1:08:10You could have ever presented to me being trapped in a Tesla with a
- 1:08:13Johnny cab going around in Las Vegas.
- 1:08:15So I'm kind of glad it's just an Uber.
- 1:08:18I mean, it's not done yet.
- 1:08:19There's plans for the next segments to be added on.
- 1:08:23I don't know.
- 1:08:25And all of that is super boring.
- 1:08:30If you're claustrophobic, I can't imagine this is fun, but
- 1:08:33here's my issue with it, right?
- 1:08:35So it's a mile and a half and it takes you from one side of traffic to the other.
- 1:08:39To the other.
- 1:08:40So it's not like it's avoiding all of the traffic.
- 1:08:42So basically you're just the asshole that cuts line and a mile and a half to get
- 1:08:46up in the front, just like the guys that ride down the emergency lane in traffic.
- 1:08:50I don't understand the logic here, right?
- 1:08:51It's great.
- 1:08:52You can speed through the tunnel, but you're still going to stop at
- 1:08:55the end, which means you're just going to back up model threes all
- 1:08:57the way back through that tunnel.
- 1:08:58So,
- 1:08:59because we all know that Vegas is really Disney world for adults.
- 1:09:02I mean, so it's just another attraction, ride, amusement to
- 1:09:07add to the amusement park, right?
- 1:09:09I mean, it's just whatever.
- 1:09:10It's, it's, it's a novelty.
- 1:09:12I
- 1:09:12mean, why not, if you have the technology to allegedly make the
- 1:09:16tunnel boring way more cost effective than doing something above ground.
- 1:09:22See, and this is where the frustrating thing of all this is.
- 1:09:25It's like, if you have this technology, why don't you just Frickin build a subway.
- 1:09:29Why don't you build a train that can hold people on a rail that would be an
- 1:09:34autonomous because a lot of the Metro rail systems actually drive themselves.
- 1:09:38Yes.
- 1:09:38There's a conductor in there to monitor, but for the most part, it's like a plane.
- 1:09:42They put them on autopilot and they go and use that technology to bring the
- 1:09:45cost down and actually move people.
- 1:09:48Not like this gimmick of throwing a roadster in space to be space junk.
- 1:09:53This gimmick to like, Oh, the Tesla drives in the tunnel.
- 1:09:56Like who gives a crap?
- 1:09:58How many people do you fit in a Tesla?
- 1:10:00You know what you just described?
- 1:10:01You know what you just described?
- 1:10:03The monorail.
- 1:10:05It's
- 1:10:05autonomous.
- 1:10:05And guess what?
- 1:10:06It's an EV.
- 1:10:07It's already there because we're, we like recreating the wheel.
- 1:10:11Okay.
- 1:10:11That's what it is.
- 1:10:12That's where we're at right now.
- 1:10:14Well, and the thing is, if they've uncovered technology that makes it more
- 1:10:17cost effective to do it underground safely, and you don't have to do it
- 1:10:22above ground and be in the way of putting cranes, blocking traffic, disrupting
- 1:10:27everything, it's kind of out of sight.
- 1:10:30Okay, well, let's do it in a way that makes sense, not
- 1:10:33in a way that's a gimmick.
- 1:10:35I'm getting the feeling through this entire episode that
- 1:10:37Tanya is not sold on Tesla.
- 1:10:39I could be wrong.
- 1:10:40Oh, I mean, the entire series of
- 1:10:42the drive thru, I
- 1:10:42think at this
- 1:10:43point.
- 1:10:43I'm
- 1:10:44making enemies.
- 1:10:44I'm making enemies.
- 1:10:45I mean,
- 1:10:46since we're talking about things that are incredibly boring.
- 1:10:49Donovan, what
- 1:10:50did you discover?
- 1:10:51Okay.
- 1:10:51So I came across these videos.
- 1:10:53There's a repair shop somewhere in England and they're probably very
- 1:10:57prestigious, but they walk you through basically the owner's manual of
- 1:11:01these very unobtainium cars, right?
- 1:11:03So they go through a 911 GT1, they go through a Mercedes CLK GTR.
- 1:11:09And while I did originally think they were boring, I can't stop watching them.
- 1:11:13It's incredible, right?
- 1:11:14So you watch it.
- 1:11:15I mean, you turned me on to these and I was like, what, what, okay, what is this?
- 1:11:19And about 30 seconds in, I'm like, wait, what, what are they doing?
- 1:11:23And then he started showing me a little bit more.
- 1:11:25It was like a strip tease almost.
- 1:11:27And I'm like, I'm like, come on, baby.
- 1:11:29Just come on a little bit more.
- 1:11:30Give me something else.
- 1:11:30And then he fires up that GTR and I'm like, Oh my God.
- 1:11:34It's over.
- 1:11:35It's so great.
- 1:11:37Right.
- 1:11:37You know, like in the, in the nine 11 GT one, there's a special tool that you
- 1:11:40have to use to unlatch the back hatch and things, things you would never think
- 1:11:44of that were designed, especially for that car, which is just incredible.
- 1:11:47It's, it's, it's really car porn.
- 1:11:49And, uh, you know, I love on the McLaren.
- 1:11:52F one where they've got the special luggage and he tells you, you
- 1:11:55have to put it in, in this order.
- 1:11:56It won't fit.
- 1:11:57You know, I love all those kinds of things are the best one is, Hey, just
- 1:12:01in case when you're in here, you have to pull the door handle this way.
- 1:12:04Like anybody watching that video is going to ever be in a
- 1:12:07McLaren F1 in that situation.
- 1:12:08But yeah, they are amazing, amazing videos.
- 1:12:11I highly recommend
- 1:12:11they are pretty cool.
- 1:12:13And we're going to link to them in the show notes.
- 1:12:14So if you haven't seen them, definitely check them out.
- 1:12:16And Donovan, thank you for just.
- 1:12:18Putting me in another time suck of the internet by introducing me to these
- 1:12:22videos, boring cars, it's a thing, right?
- 1:12:25Then there's certain cars, you know, we talked about auctions earlier.
- 1:12:28We talked about collectibles, but I think we found one that just is undesirable.
- 1:12:33I don't understand this one.
- 1:12:35There's no way anybody can explain this one to me, Tanya.
- 1:12:39You can try if you want to.
- 1:12:40So apparently there was a company that converted a two CV into a roadster.
- 1:12:46In recent time.
- 1:12:47So I don't know why anybody would do that, first of all.
- 1:12:49So it's a 1986 Citroen two CV that was basically coached built by this
- 1:12:54company called Burton overseas, a Dutch coach builder, they put what
- 1:12:58I can only describe is, uh, somebody that saw maybe a cord and got drunk
- 1:13:04and spun around three times and tried to sketch it out on a piece of paper.
- 1:13:07It's hideous and not that a two CV is attractive, but I just don't understand.
- 1:13:11Right.
- 1:13:11Start with a better platform.
- 1:13:13This car sold.
- 1:13:14At an auction in Palm beach for 9, 000, which that's probably
- 1:13:19okay at it sold for 90, 000.
- 1:13:22I think I would just turn off the internet and call it a day,
- 1:13:24but I just, I don't understand.
- 1:13:26I don't understand that
- 1:13:27at the end of the day, this person, whoever it is, stayed
- 1:13:30nine grand for a dash of all.
- 1:13:32I mean, it didn't get any better to your point.
- 1:13:35It got uglier and the color does not help.
- 1:13:38It is like cord cream.
- 1:13:40I know it's going to sound weird.
- 1:13:41It's like creamed corn because cords came in that beige color.
- 1:13:46And it's just, it's terrible.
- 1:13:47It's unattractive.
- 1:13:48And I'm just like, why?
- 1:13:50It probably cost more to build that car.
- 1:13:52The two of them that they made, then it's worth today.
- 1:13:55I mean, it's just, ugh.
- 1:13:56Well, what
- 1:13:57I love about that is it's body work by Dutch customizer.
- 1:14:00Burton car company.
- 1:14:01So there's an entire company that thought it was a good idea to make this car to me,
- 1:14:06it's promising for the rest of us, right?
- 1:14:07We just go to a junkyard and find a bunch of random parts and throw it on some
- 1:14:11civic or something and call it a day and maybe we can get nine grand for it.
- 1:14:14Who knows?
- 1:14:15You know, we're, we're talking a lot about bored and boring and boring
- 1:14:19cars and ugly cars, but you know.
- 1:14:21This next one really takes the cake.
- 1:14:23How about a boring job?
- 1:14:25You get a job as an intern with Nissan.
- 1:14:28That sounds pretty good.
- 1:14:29Doesn't sound too bad, right?
- 1:14:31Oh, I like cars and Nissan.
- 1:14:33Sure.
- 1:14:33Why not?
- 1:14:35You show up your first day at work, sit down to boss.
- 1:14:39I handed you your assignment.
- 1:14:40Well, there, you know, we're going to have you go out and rush our traffic and
- 1:14:46sit there for months, every day for the next three months of your internship.
- 1:14:51And we want you to record the activities of our adaptive cruise control system.
- 1:14:56Oh my God.
- 1:14:57So I think this is just spin.
- 1:14:59I think what happened is somebody at Nissan had an a hole intern and they said,
- 1:15:04you know what, you're going to go sit in traffic and the news news got wind of it.
- 1:15:08You know, how can Nissan treat this guy this way?
- 1:15:10And they say, no, no, no.
- 1:15:11It was for research.
- 1:15:13We had him sit in traffic in LA on purpose.
- 1:15:15Oh, and Detroit and the other cities had an on purpose because we're
- 1:15:19doing some research here on traffic.
- 1:15:21I like that.
- 1:15:21That sounds plausible.
- 1:15:23I
- 1:15:24mean, my question is, how much was this paying internship?
- 1:15:27He had to be drinking, I'm sure.
- 1:15:29I wouldn't wish that job on my enemy.
- 1:15:31I mean, can you imagine the road rage?
- 1:15:33Or do you become desensitized to it after a while?
- 1:15:36But see, it's your job, so now you don't care.
- 1:15:38So it's like,
- 1:15:39oh.
- 1:15:40How do you slack off at a job when you sit in traffic all day long?
- 1:15:43How
- 1:15:43does that work?
- 1:15:44Hey, yo boss, I'm gonna be late.
- 1:15:46Well, the scary part is he's researching adaptive cruise control.
- 1:15:49So he's already not really controlling the car.
- 1:15:52So, you know, he's probably got Taco Bell in there.
- 1:15:54He's probably playing candy crush.
- 1:15:55Maybe he had his girlfriend in the car.
- 1:15:57So it could just be a big party.
- 1:15:58You never know.
- 1:15:59There's some really bad
- 1:16:00jobs and then there's this, that's all I'm going to say.
- 1:16:03Wrapping up.
- 1:16:04We have one final story.
- 1:16:05Strange things were afoot at the Circle K in North Carolina.
- 1:16:10At least it's not a Florida man story.
- 1:16:12No, this is the Carolina man story.
- 1:16:14And the added maraschino cherry on top is that it involves an HHR.
- 1:16:22Did it
- 1:16:22sell for 90, 000 to bring a trailer?
- 1:16:24A fan favorite here.
- 1:16:25Now, you know, this is not terribly funny actually, unless this was all
- 1:16:31a stunt, which who knows could be, but apparently allegedly some sort
- 1:16:36of kerfuffle happened that a circle K that somehow resulted in a man.
- 1:16:41Hanging off the hood of an HHR as the driver of the HHR goes onto
- 1:16:48a highway and speeds away with this man dangling for dear life.
- 1:16:53I think that's hilarious.
- 1:16:55And the reason I think it's hilarious is To me, it's just the
- 1:16:58spite of the whole thing, right?
- 1:17:00It says the guy wouldn't move out of the way.
- 1:17:02So I can only imagine the HHR kind of nudged him and nudged him.
- 1:17:05And the guy jumped on the hood and he said, well, I'll show you, I'll get on
- 1:17:08the interstate and we'll do 80 miles an hour and see how long you hang on.
- 1:17:11Now, lucky for the guy driving that this guy didn't fall off and kill
- 1:17:15himself, which probably would have been vehicular manslaughter, but
- 1:17:18you know, it's like, okay, well, maybe that guy will think twice next
- 1:17:20time about staying in front of a.
- 1:17:21HHR, but you know what else it's the only time somebody uttered the words
- 1:17:25I held onto the HHR for dear life,
- 1:17:29but you got to love the fact that nobody called the police.
- 1:17:32That's like the underlying theme in this article is nobody called that.
- 1:17:34They just put their video of it on Instagram, which is hilarious,
- 1:17:37that whole psychological, uh, whatever it's called, where
- 1:17:41you think somebody else's.
- 1:17:43It's going to do it for you.
- 1:17:44A hundred percent took place during that event.
- 1:17:46Unfortunately,
- 1:17:47no good Samaritan comes to the aid of an HHR.
- 1:17:50That's all I'm going to say.
- 1:17:50So I will ask you though, is that a better way to spend your time in
- 1:17:54traffic than the Nissan guy, the intern?
- 1:17:56I mean, it's definitely more exciting.
- 1:17:58I'll give you that.
- 1:17:58It's a toss
- 1:17:59up, right?
- 1:18:00Are you the driver or the guy hanging on?
- 1:18:02The guy hanging on.
- 1:18:04Well, now folks, it is time for us to go behind the pit wall and bring you
- 1:18:08all of the latest Hunter Sports News.
- 1:18:12So first up.
- 1:18:13Let's talk about Coda and NASCARs.
- 1:18:15I forgot about that race and I would have been interested in like seeing a couple
- 1:18:20laps of it because it's NASCARs on Coda.
- 1:18:22What could possibly go right?
- 1:18:24I didn't see any of it.
- 1:18:25I heard about it.
- 1:18:26Apparently there was a huge downpour and track visibility from some of
- 1:18:30the still shots I saw was pretty bad.
- 1:18:32pretty darn poor.
- 1:18:33And of course, you know, immediately all the people that aren't NASCAR fans.
- 1:18:39NASCAR people don't know how to drive.
- 1:18:41They can't drive in the rain.
- 1:18:42Every other sports body drives in the rain.
- 1:18:44They're just crying.
- 1:18:46It's too bad.
- 1:18:46Like when you look at the still shots, it's like I can't tell that there's
- 1:18:50a car in front of them, but there is.
- 1:18:52I can't imagine that that's easy to be driving a NASCAR,
- 1:18:55which In a torrential downpour.
- 1:18:57On a road course in a torrential downpour on a track you've never been to before.
- 1:19:00It probably had like five practice laps on or something.
- 1:19:04I mean, let's not be so harsh.
- 1:19:06Apparently the poor visibility caused a number of rear ending incidents
- 1:19:10and crashes for several drivers.
- 1:19:13So it was an exciting race.
- 1:19:15Yeah.
- 1:19:15And I heard that Harvick was left pretty pissed off about the whole situation.
- 1:19:19Probably should have called the race earlier.
- 1:19:21I mean, when visibility, I mean, the flaggers should know better.
- 1:19:23If you can't see the cars and they can't see you, it might, you're
- 1:19:27too late at that point, right?
- 1:19:28They should have called the race earlier, probably prevented the
- 1:19:31massive loss in the budget that they're going to have to replace these cars.
- 1:19:34I mean, I know they got like 16 backup cars, but still some
- 1:19:37of this stuff could be avoided.
- 1:19:39I don't agree.
- 1:19:39You know, all racers racing the rain at some point, there just comes a
- 1:19:43time where you got to call it, right?
- 1:19:44If the visibility is that bad, it's bad for everybody.
- 1:19:46So it's not safe, right?
- 1:19:48Going back to if you ever watch rush, right?
- 1:19:50That was the big thing with, with Niki Lauda and those guys, it's unsafe.
- 1:19:54Conditions right now, just call it and be done.
- 1:19:56It's not worth the risk.
- 1:19:57So I got to admit, you know, I was initially, when I saw this article, one
- 1:20:00of those guys of, Oh, too bad NASCAR, you don't race the rain, you know, cry babies.
- 1:20:04But, you know, when you think about it, they're not prepared, right?
- 1:20:07F1 has special rules, even for, you know, the tire choice and things to rain.
- 1:20:11And I know NASCAR is not equipped with that, but it makes me wonder, you know,
- 1:20:14how desperate is NASCAR to get our attention these days, you know, was, was
- 1:20:18the call, Hey, this will make good TV.
- 1:20:20Right.
- 1:20:20You know, I have to kind of believe it is, you know, let's do something different.
- 1:20:23That's exciting.
- 1:20:24You know, they've already gone to a dirt track this year,
- 1:20:25so they're trying new things.
- 1:20:27Maybe it was, Hey, let's let them out there and see what happens.
- 1:20:29It's kind of unfortunate.
- 1:20:30I think
- 1:20:31it could be part of it too.
- 1:20:32Exactly.
- 1:20:32I mean, I always err on the side of safety.
- 1:20:34That's always my number one concern.
- 1:20:36So for me, you know, the television ratings.
- 1:20:38Well, hopefully next time at Coda, it'll be dry and we'll
- 1:20:41get to see an actual race.
- 1:20:42I'm with Tanya.
- 1:20:43I'm kind of excited that if I remembered that it was on the schedule and I had free
- 1:20:47time to check it out, or even on a replay, it would have been cool to see that
- 1:20:50race because I think watching NASCAR's at Coda would be pretty interesting,
- 1:20:53but moving on to the Indy 500.
- 1:20:55The big one, there's some exciting news
- 1:20:58there as well with women making history in racing and in the Indy 500 specifically
- 1:21:04for the first time ever, the Piretta Autosport Chevrolet team, the number 16
- 1:21:09is whose driver is Simona Di Silvestro.
- 1:21:13Her crew is pretty much over 50 percent women.
- 1:21:17So she's got four for seven over the wall, pit crew being women, two
- 1:21:21women, spotters, two women, engineers, um, data acquisition, et cetera.
- 1:21:25So that's pretty exciting to see a team of so many women supporting
- 1:21:30motor sports driver and racing team.
- 1:21:33Bravo.
- 1:21:34That's pretty
- 1:21:34awesome.
- 1:21:34Yeah,
- 1:21:35for
- 1:21:35sure.
- 1:21:35Now, we know that the Indy 500 came and went, but there was a big kerfuffle
- 1:21:39at the Indy 500 about the brakes.
- 1:21:41There were a bunch of accidents in the pit, coming off the pit, pulling
- 1:21:45in, you know, crashes, speeding violations, all sorts of stuff.
- 1:21:49People were left asking, what's the deal?
- 1:21:51Why can't these cars stop?
- 1:21:53What's going on, right?
- 1:21:54These weren't on track incidents.
- 1:21:55They were all happening in low speed environments where the cars We're
- 1:21:58seemingly not stopping in my research.
- 1:22:01What I discovered was because at a big race, like the 500, oftentimes they don't
- 1:22:07use the brakes at all for long periods of time, unless they're coming into the pit.
- 1:22:10And so what they have is these brake pad retractors that keep the pads away from
- 1:22:16the rotor so that there's no sort of drag.
- 1:22:19And when they're on track, they just lift off the throttle or
- 1:22:21use aerodynamic drag to slow down the vehicles that they need to.
- 1:22:25So it takes an incredible amount of force.
- 1:22:27To get the cars to stop.
- 1:22:29And oftentimes the brake pads are quite cold.
- 1:22:32And if you've ever used racing brake pads before, they don't
- 1:22:34grip unless they're hot.
- 1:22:36So in this case, there were tons of crashes due to folks not being able
- 1:22:41to basically depress the brakes quick enough or hard enough to get the vehicles
- 1:22:45to stop in these different situations.
- 1:22:47So that's what was up with the brakes and all these.
- 1:22:50Seemingly odd crashes at the Indy 500.
- 1:22:53Shouldn't they know by now though?
- 1:22:55You would think
- 1:22:58you can't account for all of it.
- 1:22:59There's another great video that I came across that I want to share with you
- 1:23:02guys on several drive through episodes.
- 1:23:04Brad and Tanya have brought to my attention, how much I really need to
- 1:23:08watch drive to survive on Netflix.
- 1:23:11You know, it's like the hot to do, you know, drama of formula one.
- 1:23:15I still haven't watched yet, but I will say this.
- 1:23:17I did watch.
- 1:23:18The video that we posted along with the show notes about how drive to
- 1:23:22survive will portray Mick Schumacher hitting Vettel in the knee.
- 1:23:27And it is absolutely hilarious.
- 1:23:29And if it's anything like the show, you've got my attention.
- 1:23:33I just got to set aside the time to check it out.
- 1:23:35I think it's pretty awesome, but you know, realistically, he's got to worry
- 1:23:38more about Mazipin than he does, uh, Vettel out there with his, you see,
- 1:23:43recently they were talking about how he doesn't trust Mazipin as his own teammate,
- 1:23:46almost running him off the track.
- 1:23:47But I think that's cool.
- 1:23:49You know, honestly, for me and Drive to Survive is an amazing show.
- 1:23:53I miss Vettel being in the headlines.
- 1:23:55You know, I started watching, I tried to watch F1 for the longest
- 1:23:58time and just couldn't get into it.
- 1:23:59And, uh, you know, I think 2017, I started watching and, you know,
- 1:24:03Vettel was still, he was still spicy.
- 1:24:05You know, that's, he's running into Hamilton and doing break checks
- 1:24:08and things, and, you know, now he just seems so kind of mellow
- 1:24:12and almost in retirement phase.
- 1:24:14can I say
- 1:24:15that his career went the way of his hairline?
- 1:24:17Hey, He's talking about my hair too, you know, anything that brings him back.
- 1:24:22I mean, I don't know.
- 1:24:23I mean, I don't know if he's, maybe he's just lost his fire, but you
- 1:24:26know, I think that'll be interesting.
- 1:24:27And you know, it'd be cool to see those two as teammates too.
- 1:24:29I think Schumacher has a lot to learn from him.
- 1:24:31I mean, obviously, you know, his dad was amazing, but you know,
- 1:24:34maybe there'll be teammates one day.
- 1:24:35That'd be really
- 1:24:36cool.
- 1:24:36And since we're talking about formula one, my wife asked the other day, and
- 1:24:38I'm going to ask on her behalf, does anybody know, or has heard anything
- 1:24:42different about Michael Schumacher?
- 1:24:45No,
- 1:24:46no, I haven't.
- 1:24:47I haven't heard anything in a
- 1:24:47long time.
- 1:24:49I check periodically, and basically it's always the same news.
- 1:24:52The family is very closed mouthed about anything.
- 1:24:56I think the only person that really gets to go into the inner circle and
- 1:25:00probably also knows what's going on besides doctors or other immediate
- 1:25:03family members is Felipe Massa, because apparently they were pretty close friends.
- 1:25:07So there are reports that, you know, he gets to go visit and things like that.
- 1:25:11But for the most part, the reports still basically say the same thing.
- 1:25:14He is alive, but it almost sounds like he's dead.
- 1:25:19I mean, he is out of the coma, but I don't know the scale of a wake.
- 1:25:25What
- 1:25:25that means just because your eyes are open, who knows?
- 1:25:28Maybe one day all of a sudden he's going to come out walking out the
- 1:25:30front door because they've kept it quiet, but that would be awesome.
- 1:25:34That would be
- 1:25:34awesome.
- 1:25:35I mean, it, it hurts me to even think about it.
- 1:25:38I mean, Schumacher is definitely a hero right up there with Senna and others,
- 1:25:42but yeah, I, you know, I, like you guys, I want to touch back periodically, but
- 1:25:46it was funny because she brought it up the other day and I was like, you
- 1:25:48know, I really don't know the answer and you know what, I'm going to find out.
- 1:25:52So there we go.
- 1:25:53But you know, let's move to some happier things.
- 1:25:55Let's talk about my favorite discipline, WRC.
- 1:25:58When you think of WRC, does a Prius normally come to mind?
- 1:26:03Hell no!
- 1:26:03I'm thinking Yari Mati Lakpala and the Yaris.
- 1:26:07Uh.
- 1:26:07Well, maybe you need to start rethinking that and start thinking,
- 1:26:12what is a Toyota Rally Prius?
- 1:26:14Look like
- 1:26:15I can tell you what it sounds like.
- 1:26:17Nothing that is, that is correct.
- 1:26:21It does not sound like anything.
- 1:26:22However, it does look pretty cool.
- 1:26:24I mean, it looks like a Prius, but with some nice livery on it, whatever.
- 1:26:29They didn't just create some monster and put a badge on the front that says
- 1:26:32Toyota and yeah, there's a battery in it.
- 1:26:35Like.
- 1:26:36No, this is actually a Prius that they gutted.
- 1:26:38They stripped the interior down as much as possible.
- 1:26:40They put a roll cage in, they put racing seats, they got rid of the glass, put
- 1:26:44plexiglass in, apparently they even, it would be because the front of your
- 1:26:50suspension borrow parts off the TRD RAV4.
- 1:26:53SUV, which I'm assuming is all wheel drive.
- 1:26:57So what they talk about in terms of like spec, so they did change a bunch of parts.
- 1:27:01So apparently the front springs are from a Camry.
- 1:27:04The rear springs are from an Avalon TRD.
- 1:27:06I didn't even know there was an Avalon TRD.
- 1:27:08That
- 1:27:08just blown my mind right there.
- 1:27:12Oh, Toyota.
- 1:27:13And then, you know, they put rally tires on it, et cetera, et cetera.
- 1:27:17Apparently the powertrain is the powertrain of a Prius.
- 1:27:21So they're out there rallying a rally prep Prius.
- 1:27:25Is it safe to say that's probably the only cool Prius in the world?
- 1:27:29I mean, it is still Prius powered though, which kind of takes back from it, but
- 1:27:32well, there was a Prius touring car.
- 1:27:34A couple years ago, which is pretty cool.
- 1:27:36Yeah.
- 1:27:37I give it that.
- 1:27:38I had like big team dynamics on it.
- 1:27:39They actually had at the DC auto show.
- 1:27:40I have pictures of it.
- 1:27:41And, uh, so I don't know that they did that well with it, but they've been like
- 1:27:45kind of supplanting the Prius in different disciplines to just get attention,
- 1:27:49but I also wonder if they're using it.
- 1:27:51As a test mule, right.
- 1:27:53In some respects, like maybe that's the future of the Yaris, right.
- 1:27:56We'll put it in the Prius and nobody will pay attention to it.
- 1:27:59And everybody kind of laughs.
- 1:28:00Meanwhile, they're testing out like whatever the next gen platform is
- 1:28:04for the GR Yaris or whatever it is they're going to use in WRC.
- 1:28:08So I don't see this competing in WRC one against, you know, Tiri
- 1:28:13Nuville and Oitanic and those guys is probably down way in the.
- 1:28:16The bowels of WRC three, but good on Toyota.
- 1:28:19If it's, especially if this is a factory car sponsored by them, knowing
- 1:28:23the history of Toyota, maybe not as strong as I do some of the other
- 1:28:26brands, I wouldn't put it past them that this is an experiment, you know,
- 1:28:29that they're trying something out.
- 1:28:31I have two thoughts on that one is, well, if that is the case,
- 1:28:33they're kind of cutting edge, right?
- 1:28:35Because that's the way it's going.
- 1:28:36And then the sad thought is, Oh my God, is that the way rally car is going?
- 1:28:40Can you imagine rally and 2025 and all you hear is rock noise?
- 1:28:45You know, you don't hear those engines screaming.
- 1:28:47That that's sad.
- 1:28:47Well, you know, and that goes back to a point from earlier that I wanted to kind
- 1:28:51of get to, you know, you were talking about the Lambos and all these cars
- 1:28:53getting silent, maybe in the future.
- 1:28:56To take a page from BMW's playbook, instead of pumping the sound into the
- 1:29:01car of like a V8 when you really have a four cylinder turbo is we'll just
- 1:29:04have like exhaust by Bose and exhaust by, you know, beats or whatever.
- 1:29:09And it'll just blast the sound of an old Lamborghini and you're
- 1:29:12in your EV and it'll be cool.
- 1:29:14What kind of sub you got as an exhaust, right?
- 1:29:16And I think about it that way.
- 1:29:17So if I had a Tesla and I was playing with the buttons the other day in a
- 1:29:20model three, and I know you can make the radio play outside, I would have it
- 1:29:25do something like, Hey, as I'm driving.
- 1:29:28So you're
- 1:29:29everybody would, it would be Jetsons and fart noises.
- 1:29:33It'd be ridiculous.
- 1:29:34But see, instead I would be like.
- 1:29:36Give me the Pikes Peak Audi, you know, screaming dragon five
- 1:29:40cylinder sound on every car.
- 1:29:41It doesn't matter what it is.
- 1:29:41I'd be, I'd be happy with that, but you know, switching gears from rally into
- 1:29:47my second favorite discipline, IMSA WEC, Donovan, most people might not know that
- 1:29:52you're a BMW guy unless they listened to our episode together from last year.
- 1:29:57So there's BMW and LeMans.
- 1:30:00Yeah, thank goodness.
- 1:30:01They're coming back to prototypes in 2023.
- 1:30:04So to me, that's what makes prototype racing interesting.
- 1:30:07And, you know, it's, it's one of those years it looks like where Porsche will
- 1:30:11be back Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Acura will be there and it'll be fun to watch.
- 1:30:17Currently, you know, it's not so fun to watch because there's usually one
- 1:30:20manufacturer that takes the crown, but.
- 1:30:22Yeah.
- 1:30:23But yeah, I'm really excited that BMW is coming back, you know, while
- 1:30:25unfortunately I didn't get to see the V12 LMR race, you know, it'd
- 1:30:29be exciting to see these come back.
- 1:30:30So I know Eric, you can relate to this.
- 1:30:33I'm excited about the swag that will be available at
- 1:30:35these races that are BMW swag.
- 1:30:38So it's going to be amazing.
- 1:30:39It's right in line.
- 1:30:41With the announcements, everybody else has made.
- 1:30:43I'm waiting for Mercedes to come back.
- 1:30:44Like I need an LMDH version of the Sauber C11.
- 1:30:48I mean, something just earth shaking monstrosity from, from Mercedes, right.
- 1:30:53To come on board.
- 1:30:54And I'm sure that'll be next.
- 1:30:55Cause if the rest of the big players are coming, they got to come to
- 1:30:59be cool to see Bentley come back.
- 1:31:01But 2023.
- 1:31:02That's the hundredth anniversary of Le Mans.
- 1:31:04That's a big deal.
- 1:31:05And with all these manufacturers returning Le Mans, I think that's a good indication
- 1:31:10of where the future is for IMSA and WEC and, and prototype and grand touring
- 1:31:15racing and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:31:16And I'm really looking forward to that.
- 1:31:17We're making a.
- 1:31:18A large effort to go as a group to the 2023 Le Mans.
- 1:31:23So I'm with you.
- 1:31:24I'm bringing an extra suitcase so I can bring home a ton of swag.
- 1:31:27It's going to
- 1:31:27be awesome.
- 1:31:28Well, we'll have to make that Daytona trip too.
- 1:31:30That's their inaugural race.
- 1:31:31I didn't go this year, but I pretty much, I go regularly.
- 1:31:34So maybe that's a, that's a combo event.
- 1:31:36So since I got a little historical on you, I got to add a couple
- 1:31:39more bullet points to this.
- 1:31:40For those that don't know, there was a call.
- 1:31:43earlier last year for a spin off of Mythbusters to debut on
- 1:31:48Motor Trend and they're going to call it Motor Mythbusters.
- 1:31:51It's going to have the host from some other shows like All Girls
- 1:31:54Garage and some of the other programs that Motor Trend sponsors.
- 1:31:57And the idea is to pick up where Mythbusters left off, but it's all
- 1:32:01related to cars and trucks and kind of dispelling all of those myths.
- 1:32:04I'm excited to see that.
- 1:32:05I'm a little concerned that they're either going to be very patronizing with.
- 1:32:09Car guys, or they're going to get deep.
- 1:32:11So to me, you know, I'm, I'm con my concern, right?
- 1:32:14Is it's going to be, this is how an engine works.
- 1:32:16What I'd really like to see them do is let's get into some
- 1:32:19of the myths about cars, right?
- 1:32:21The nine, nine, six rear main seal, the IMS issue.
- 1:32:24Is that really an issue?
- 1:32:25Things like on the FAD.
- 1:32:27BMW, you know, there's the crank hub issue.
- 1:32:29That would be fantastic.
- 1:32:30I think if it's just, uh, this is, you know, you know, this is how many miles
- 1:32:34you can really get out of an engine.
- 1:32:35I think it's really going to be
- 1:32:36how much boost can you put through a motor before you blow a piston or whatever?
- 1:32:40Yeah.
- 1:32:40Yeah.
- 1:32:40Yeah.
- 1:32:41So maybe a little bit of both.
- 1:32:42I mean, but I guess on August 4th, we'll find out, right?
- 1:32:46So I'm kind of looking forward to that science fair project.
- 1:32:48I did enjoy Mythbusters.
- 1:32:49I thought it got a little long in the tooth though, but you know, putting
- 1:32:51a petrol head spin on it is pretty exciting, but talking about putting
- 1:32:55a petrol head spin on things, our favorite hamster, Richard Hammond from
- 1:33:01Top Gear and the Grand Tour is also slated for his own Rustoration show.
- 1:33:07On discovery plus and it's supposed to come out sometime
- 1:33:10this year, maybe next year.
- 1:33:11There's not a definitive date yet.
- 1:33:13I've kind of searched around on this and I've got some wishy washy answers,
- 1:33:16but it's set you not far from his house and he's going to be going
- 1:33:20through and basically restoring cars.
- 1:33:22So I'm really curious to see where that goes.
- 1:33:24I really enjoy Hammond.
- 1:33:26I mean, I've enjoyed the whole cast, but I think it will be cool because I think
- 1:33:29he has an interesting car collection.
- 1:33:31And if these cars are his, and he's not just taking a playbook out of, I'm going
- 1:33:35to buy a car and flip it like every other show that's on motor trend and,
- 1:33:39and discovery plus that are like that.
- 1:33:41I think it'll be a cool spin and it should be a lot of fun.
- 1:33:45I agree.
- 1:33:45And as far as the, uh, Richard Hammond show goes, have you
- 1:33:48watched Clarkson does the farming?
- 1:33:51Not yet.
- 1:33:51It's so good.
- 1:33:52It's typical Clarkson stuff, but it's really good.
- 1:33:54They did a special for charity years ago where all three of them,
- 1:33:58Clarkson, Hammond and may we're doing some landscaping, farming and
- 1:34:02tractor type stuff, and it just ended in chaos and calamity as always.
- 1:34:06So, I mean, knowing that Clarkson's doing a show, I mean, and it might be
- 1:34:10similar to that, I might actually tune in.
- 1:34:12So I got to check it out.
- 1:34:13It's really good.
- 1:34:14It's believable too.
- 1:34:15I know some of it's scripted, but for the most part, it's pretty good.
- 1:34:17On the other side of that, you know, and a little bit of sad news.
- 1:34:21Some of you may or may not be intimate with the long history of
- 1:34:25FIA and Formula One and whatever, but Max Mosley, the former president
- 1:34:29of the FIA, passed away this year.
- 1:34:33At 81 years old, he was the president of the FIA from 1993 to 2009.
- 1:34:39He carved out a successful career before going to FIA as
- 1:34:42a, as a lawyer, a barrister.
- 1:34:43He was an amateur racing driver and he was also the founder and
- 1:34:47co owner of March Engineering.
- 1:34:49So long, deep history in the motor sports world.
- 1:34:53We're sad to see him go, but yeah, Max Mosley passed this year.
- 1:34:57In other sad news.
- 1:34:59Not the saddest news we have to report, but I am a fan of the GR Yaris.
- 1:35:05I don't know why I've never driven one.
- 1:35:07Is that the garage ride edition?
- 1:35:09I would love to drive one.
- 1:35:11I mean, I like small cars.
- 1:35:13It's a small car, so it had me at small in a track day event in
- 1:35:18Estonia, poor little Toyota GR Yaris succumbed, I think to its injuries and
- 1:35:25there's one less in the world today.
- 1:35:28So the driver trying to push the car to its limit, I guess, you know,
- 1:35:32from the video footage of what seems to be like a still camera on the
- 1:35:35side of the track that was pointing at these two particular corners.
- 1:35:38It's coming around, make this left hand corner and it kind of comes through
- 1:35:42drifting and you see him coming through.
- 1:35:45He obviously tries to correct the cargo sideways, but then it snaps back and
- 1:35:51he shoots off the track to the right.
- 1:35:53Fortunately, or unfortunately in this case, unfortunately there was a sand trap.
- 1:35:57So when it went off track, hit into the sand trap, it barrel
- 1:36:02rolled, hit the roof four times, I counted, finally coming to a rest.
- 1:36:07Turtle side down.
- 1:36:08So on its four wheels, boom, there it rested.
- 1:36:12There were some not still shots, but just 360 video footage of it
- 1:36:16sitting out in that sand trap.
- 1:36:17And surprisingly, and I don't know how fast it was going, coming into
- 1:36:20this turn, but for a car that barrel rolled hitting its roof four times.
- 1:36:24It doesn't look that damaged.
- 1:36:27It was so collectible too.
- 1:36:28Just in that turn.
- 1:36:31He just
- 1:36:32overcompensated.
- 1:36:32Basically, he snapped it back the other way and shot off the track.
- 1:36:35But I'm impressed by the engineering.
- 1:36:38But I guess that's also cars these days are much
- 1:36:41I mean, just think, if he holds onto it for like 50 years, he can
- 1:36:44sell it for 122, 000 like that Jaguar that we talked about earlier.
- 1:36:49I mean,
- 1:36:49we're not having a roll cage inside and the roof didn't collapse in the passenger.
- 1:36:54That's
- 1:36:54really, really good.
- 1:36:55Actually.
- 1:36:55I mean, it looks like the
- 1:36:56headline, it looked like the headliner fell out, but it didn't
- 1:36:59look like the roof had caved in.
- 1:37:01So the passenger was probably fine.
- 1:37:03And even the body panels weren't all that banged up, not all the way around the car.
- 1:37:07So I'm really impressed actually with the structural rigidity of the overall
- 1:37:12still better looking than that Burton Docheveaux that we
- 1:37:14talked about a little as well.
- 1:37:15So it's winning.
- 1:37:16It's winning in a lot of categories.
- 1:37:18I'd give him 50 bucks for it.
- 1:37:19Now, the other cautionary tale here is if you find yourself in Estonia
- 1:37:23on a track day, please be wary because apparently there aren't
- 1:37:27flaggers out here because everyone just keeps going around the track.
- 1:37:31I mean,
- 1:37:31if it's anything like the crazy track days in Germany, the bigger
- 1:37:34question is Was he wearing a helmet?
- 1:37:36Was he wearing a helmet?
- 1:37:37Exactly.
- 1:37:37That was my first thought when I saw where this was located, because the cars just
- 1:37:40keep going around, I would have thought immediately red flag, everybody should
- 1:37:44be stopped, let the ambulance get out there to make sure this dude is alive.
- 1:37:47One guy did pull over and like drove off the track and started to get out of
- 1:37:51the car and then the video shuts off.
- 1:37:53I was like, dang,
- 1:37:54do yourself exactly.
- 1:37:57All right.
- 1:37:57And one final one, Tanya, I know that you follow the MotoGP discipline.
- 1:38:03What's going on?
- 1:38:03Yeah.
- 1:38:04So that is truly the saddest news out of all these reportings is a Swiss
- 1:38:09rider in Moto3, Jason DuPasquier.
- 1:38:12He had an accident at the Grand Prix in Mugello and unfortunately
- 1:38:17lost his life in that incident.
- 1:38:19At 19 years old, that's absolutely crazy.
- 1:38:22And, uh, it said he crashed at the turn that's called Arabiata.
- 1:38:26It's a, that's the double right hander at turn nine at the end of qualifying.
- 1:38:31And it was on his flying lap.
- 1:38:33And that translation means angry.
- 1:38:35Yes, it does.
- 1:38:35Yes, it does.
- 1:38:36So it's very sad to see that, uh, an aspiring motorcycle rider.
- 1:38:41Would have been really cool to see what he could have done, but, you know,
- 1:38:44unfortunately, sometimes the risk we take, even with the best safety gear
- 1:38:48that's out there and, and motorcycles and all sorts of racing are dangerous.
- 1:38:51So always use your better judgment, whether you're in a GR yards,
- 1:38:54a motorcycle or anything else.
- 1:38:56So always be on the side of safety, but now we'll switch
- 1:38:59into some quick local news.
- 1:39:01As we wrap up, I want to remind everybody about some upcoming events.
- 1:39:05Unfortunately, our tale of the dragon event.
- 1:39:07Has been canceled because as you know, Brad is not on this episode.
- 1:39:10He's not feeling too great.
- 1:39:12So we had to bag that, but we are on for our double header with auto
- 1:39:16interest at Nelson ledges and pit race over the next two weekends.
- 1:39:19So unfortunately we can't tell you all the awesome things about Nelson ledges
- 1:39:23until next month, it's going to be a first for a lot of us, although I have
- 1:39:26heard it is no longer like racing on the surface of the moon, it's a newly
- 1:39:31reopened in the last couple of years.
- 1:39:32Unfortunately, Kind of, you know, redebuted in the middle of COVID,
- 1:39:35but it's been freshly paved.
- 1:39:37I've been watching a lot of videos of it.
- 1:39:38It has touted to always have had the fastest average lap speed of
- 1:39:44any track East of the Mississippi.
- 1:39:46So I'm really excited to try out Nelson ledges and I'm
- 1:39:48always happy to go to pit race.
- 1:39:50We are at pit race celebrating the 4th of July this year, and we are
- 1:39:54also hosting a carding showdown.

- 1:41:33going to come out and join us for that.

- 1:41:47come out and meet Dave and talk to him.

- 1:41:51There are still tons of events on the calendar.
- 1:41:53I mean, Hundreds day in and day out weekdays, there's events coming up.
