- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to artists on artists and artists on artists.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Mean Girls. It was a book, then a movie, then
- 0:10Speaker 1: a musical, then a movie musical, and now it's a
- 0:13Speaker 1: video game. Today we talked to the people behind Mean
- 0:16Speaker 1: Girls the video game.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Video game adaptations of huge blockbuster movies are a very
- 0:24Speaker 2: known thing in Hollywood. Are they successful? Who's to say?
- 0:29Speaker 3: You've heard of mean Boys? They're on the chatrooms of
- 0:33Speaker 3: World of Warcraft and games like that, but you have
- 0:37Speaker 3: yet to meet Mean Girls, the video game.
- 0:41Speaker 4: Combining two worlds that should never ever cross paths. We
- 0:45Speaker 4: talk to the Mean Girl video game workers.
- 0:50Speaker 5: Let's listen in. Hey, all right, wow, yes, here we go.
- 0:57Speaker 5: What's up?
- 0:57Speaker 6: What's what's up?
- 0:58Speaker 5: What's up?
- 0:58Speaker 1: What's this is? Opening up?
- 1:00Speaker 7: Open in a fresh DC to hang out with my
- 1:03Speaker 7: whoa wait?
- 1:05Speaker 5: Wait, where's the liquid death? Do you guys have any
- 1:06Speaker 5: liquid death?
- 1:07Speaker 7: Oh?
- 1:08Speaker 6: Ship, ye at your face? Black can over here.
- 1:14Speaker 5: It's a black can and it's all white can. But
- 1:16Speaker 5: now they got man, I.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Got a bunch of here. I got some of the
- 1:19Speaker 1: new flavors. I got guava noos, and I have strawberry lemon.
- 1:25Speaker 7: Uh piss story.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Oh that strawberry Living's piss and then I was reading
- 1:30Speaker 1: Watermelon autoerotic asphyxiation as well.
- 1:33Speaker 5: I'll tell you a.
- 1:35Speaker 6: Key lime pie disease, liquid death.
- 1:38Speaker 7: I haven't had that one yet. Yeah that sounds.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Really Hey guys, what's up? We are the video game
- 1:44Speaker 4: Makers Adapters. We take mean girls and we are turning
- 1:48Speaker 4: it into mean Girls the video games. We are so
- 1:51Speaker 4: excited to jump right in. We'll do a little intro
- 1:54Speaker 4: and then we can get in how you're gonna play
- 1:55Speaker 4: the game, what's special about this game and why it's
- 1:58Speaker 4: gonna be great for audiences? What's my name is Skylark Dark.
- 2:05Speaker 4: I am a video game coder and I work in
- 2:08Speaker 4: marketing and I also work in general creation and IP
- 2:12Speaker 4: and I also help write the video games. So that's
- 2:15Speaker 4: what I do. We are the company Wednesday Pictures.
- 2:21Speaker 5: We love. We used to party and get.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Drunk on Wednesdays and then we all kind of coded
- 2:25Speaker 4: our way into a company.
- 2:27Speaker 5: So we are Wednesday Pictures.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Yeah, we're Wednesday Pictures of video game Company. We're really
- 2:30Speaker 1: really stoked to be here. We love. We like to
- 2:32Speaker 1: act like a little thing about us. We're kind of nerveus.
- 2:34Speaker 1: We like to call video games pictures because way back
- 2:37Speaker 1: in the day, that's how they used to make video games,
- 2:40Speaker 1: and the original video games were basically you know, highlight magazine.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You know when you look in pictures and you circle,
- 2:46Speaker 1: you know what the differences were between the screens and stuff.
- 2:50Speaker 2: And not only are we Wednesday pictures because we got
- 2:52Speaker 2: drunk on Wednesdays and because pictures are video games, but
- 2:54Speaker 2: we also are all film lovers.
- 2:57Speaker 5: We love film, We love film.
- 3:00Speaker 7: My name is Dunmore Robert Strickland, the Third.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I am one of the head story writers and one
- 3:06Speaker 1: of the head script consultants here for Mean Girls of
- 3:10Speaker 1: Video Game. I'm kind of a musical freak, and we
- 3:13Speaker 1: like to say I'm the biggest musical theater person here
- 3:15Speaker 1: in the group because I kissed a boy in college once.
- 3:17Speaker 4: So we have to hear this story later. You have
- 3:21Speaker 4: to hear this story.
- 3:22Speaker 1: We'll talk about it later. We'll talk about later. But
- 3:24Speaker 1: I guess that kind of makes me the most appropriate
- 3:27Speaker 1: to help develop this game. And I'm really stoked, like
- 3:31Speaker 1: the story has been so fun. You know, we have
- 3:33Speaker 1: been working specifically with Tina on the script because she said,
- 3:38Speaker 1: just use the one we've viewed so many.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Times, literally is so funny though, like Tina is, Ah.
- 3:45Speaker 6: That's amazing.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Hey, guys, what's up. I'm Paul Simpson. So excited to
- 3:50Speaker 2: be here. These kiddos they like to call me file
- 3:53Speaker 2: because I'm in charge of you know, I've just been
- 3:58Speaker 2: I've been working in video game creation and development and
- 4:01Speaker 2: coding and all of that, all that good stuff since
- 4:05Speaker 2: I was a kid.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Come on, File, explain like why I like to call
- 4:09Speaker 4: you file?
- 4:09Speaker 1: File?
- 4:10Speaker 7: File.
- 4:11Speaker 2: When I was a kid, I had a leap Frog
- 4:14Speaker 2: Learning center, one of those fake iPads back in the day,
- 4:17Speaker 2: and I created the first file on a leap Frog
- 4:20Speaker 2: learning center.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Isn't that crazy? The first file, the first ability to
- 4:26Speaker 4: hold things in another thing.
- 4:28Speaker 6: And I did that on a leap Frog learning center.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So I knew I was They knew I was ready
- 4:34Speaker 2: to create weird things within another weird thing. But yeah,
- 4:39Speaker 2: so so glad to be here. I love all these
- 4:41Speaker 2: people I've been working with. This last six months have
- 4:43Speaker 2: been nothing but a pleasure.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Didn't you when you were twelve years old? You created
- 4:47Speaker 1: you created a cash app inside a game boy? Right?
- 4:50Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 4:50Speaker 2: So I wanted somewhere to put my allowance and I
- 4:54Speaker 2: found a way to create files that could create that
- 4:57Speaker 2: could hold currency in my game Boy.
- 5:00Speaker 6: I was actually in the game Boy Advance.
- 5:02Speaker 4: One of the first first actual moments of bitcoin. It
- 5:08Speaker 4: was completely blocked and safe and it was transferred super
- 5:11Speaker 4: easily on the blockchain.
- 5:12Speaker 5: Insane the file did that.
- 5:14Speaker 6: Thank you so much, guys. I love you guys.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Well, hi everybody. I am Sharon Sanders.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And one girl.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I am, Yes, I am the one girl here I am.
- 5:29Speaker 3: I am also not a girl. I am fifty seven
- 5:32Speaker 3: years old. So thank you so much. I am a woman.
- 5:35Speaker 7: And this girl's hilario. You guys are gonna love this. Y.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it was so funny.
- 5:40Speaker 7: She's just like, yeah, she's exactly.
- 5:43Speaker 1: She reminds me of like if Tina Fey and Rods
- 5:45Speaker 1: from Monsters zincis ha or.
- 5:48Speaker 6: Like those women lawyers on Law and Order.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Oh yeah, exactly exactly.
- 5:55Speaker 6: We're both we both are women. We both are women.
- 6:01Speaker 3: So I serve as Renee Raps eyes on the inside
- 6:05Speaker 3: for this project. I did a lot of private investigating
- 6:09Speaker 3: as my former career and Renee Raps team asked me
- 6:14Speaker 3: to uh stay in the video game room to make
- 6:17Speaker 3: sure that everything was up to par in as it
- 6:22Speaker 3: relates to to her in this project. So it's been
- 6:26Speaker 3: really cool to hang out with the Wednesday Pictures crew.
- 6:30Speaker 3: There's a lot of energy drinks I've never heard of.
- 6:33Speaker 3: You guys have introduced me into what are you? What
- 6:36Speaker 3: are you holding up?
- 6:36Speaker 1: You're doing?
- 6:40Speaker 5: Okay?
- 6:41Speaker 6: You have you have sort of this sorority sign interesday.
- 6:45Speaker 6: We have Wednesday.
- 6:47Speaker 7: Wednesday p pe.
- 6:50Speaker 6: Okay, well I'll get the hang of it one of
- 6:52Speaker 6: these days.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Anyway, It's been a great six weeks and I can
- 6:55Speaker 3: honestly say we're pretty happy over here at Team RAP
- 6:59Speaker 3: and so it's been great working with you guys, and
- 7:03Speaker 3: I'm I'm just stoked to be along for the ride.
- 7:06Speaker 7: It's so fresh.
- 7:06Speaker 1: It's so nice to have you on board, to be honest,
- 7:09Speaker 1: because I can tell you've never even looked at a
- 7:11Speaker 1: video game, and you're so impressed and blindsided about how
- 7:15Speaker 1: good we are what we do. It's really awesome to
- 7:17Speaker 1: have you.
- 7:18Speaker 3: It is like watching a magic trick every single day.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Because I'll admit to you guys right now, the closest
- 7:25Speaker 3: I've ever come to a video game is the Amazon
- 7:29Speaker 3: Try it in my Room section, where you can see
- 7:35Speaker 3: how big a rug is in your current space. So
- 7:38Speaker 3: it's really exciting to you. What have you guys showed
- 7:42Speaker 3: be Tetris.
- 7:42Speaker 6: The other day?
- 7:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I couldn't.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Believe you never played Tetris. It was amazing and you
- 7:47Speaker 4: were kind of calling at commands. You were kind of saying, well,
- 7:49Speaker 4: can you move it left? And I was like, yeah,
- 7:52Speaker 4: you can kind of move it anywhere, Sharon, that's the
- 7:53Speaker 4: point of the game.
- 7:54Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I said, surely you can't move it right and lo
- 7:57Speaker 3: and behold you could.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Also because you bring up the Renee Raps team. Tina
- 8:04Speaker 2: is super funny in the room and Renee Rap in
- 8:06Speaker 2: the room is a fucking badass boss.
- 8:09Speaker 7: And that's it.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Wasn't there the whole time, but she would come in
- 8:12Speaker 4: and pitch and she was a bad ass.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I just want to contractually get it out there that
- 8:17Speaker 2: Tina Fey is super funny in the room and Renee
- 8:19Speaker 2: Rap is a badass boss.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Did it.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I don't know how our team did it, but Renee
- 8:23Speaker 4: Rap is kind of this project now it's like kind
- 8:26Speaker 4: of like just hers.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Now, wait, I am I have this thing I was
- 8:30Speaker 1: told to read. Renee Rap is all of us for real.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Renee Rap is so cool and just like one of
- 8:38Speaker 1: the goals, but also one of the people because this generation.
- 8:42Speaker 6: Oh that's an old version. Can you change people to human?
- 8:46Speaker 4: Uh?
- 8:46Speaker 7: Yeah, it's Renee. Should I start from the beginning?
- 8:49Speaker 6: Yeah, from the top?
- 8:50Speaker 4: I think.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I think it's the one that the file is titled.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Renee Rap is better than everybody, but she's also an equal.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Okay, well I have a print out, sorry file, fuck dude.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Rede Rap is just like one of us for real.
- 9:03Speaker 1: She's so relatable and she's just like a normal people
- 9:07Speaker 1: like all of us. She's really funny and she's so
- 9:11Speaker 1: normal and so cool and I can't wait to work
- 9:15Speaker 1: on more video games with her.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Okay, you didn't need to pronounce I know, I I know,
- 9:20Speaker 3: I'm I added two rs at the end of her
- 9:23Speaker 3: by accident.
- 9:24Speaker 6: But you didn't need to read it.
- 9:26Speaker 7: But I do want to, right. But that's why I
- 9:28Speaker 7: love done More.
- 9:29Speaker 6: That's why I loved More. Can I say that is
- 9:31Speaker 6: why I love Done More?
- 9:32Speaker 2: Because he is He's the first guy that that movie
- 9:37Speaker 2: adaptations for video games. They go to him because he
- 9:39Speaker 2: respects the book and he respects the word.
- 9:41Speaker 6: And we should say that.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Sharon came in six weeks ago and we all started
- 9:45Speaker 2: really working six weeks to go together. But me, Dunmore
- 9:48Speaker 2: and Skylark, we've been doing this because it makes it
- 9:50Speaker 2: takes longer than six weeks to make a video.
- 9:52Speaker 1: He does, it really does, and and uh, it doesn't
- 9:54Speaker 1: take longer than six weeks to confirm and prove a likeness,
- 9:58Speaker 1: which is what Sharon's referring.
- 10:00Speaker 4: But for us, you know, it's tough though, getting notes
- 10:03Speaker 4: six weeks away from the law because you kind of
- 10:05Speaker 4: have to go back to building character.
- 10:07Speaker 5: At that point. You can.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Kind to sell me like there's a lot of education
- 10:12Speaker 3: that needs to be done on our part, admittedly, because
- 10:16Speaker 3: you got to work me through the building blocks of Okay,
- 10:18Speaker 3: how can I give notes on something I've never even
- 10:21Speaker 3: seen before.
- 10:21Speaker 4: It was tough explaining to you that characters naturally move
- 10:25Speaker 4: like they can walk forward and walk left and walk right,
- 10:27Speaker 4: and you were saying why why so complicated a lot so.
- 10:31Speaker 3: I think it took a week to understand, uh, the
- 10:34Speaker 3: sort of controller, but when you put it in context
- 10:37Speaker 3: of this is like a remote for a television, I
- 10:40Speaker 3: was sold.
- 10:41Speaker 6: I was, yeah, that's how I.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Think A lot of you about that, Yeah, like or
- 10:47Speaker 4: why can't why doesn't she move? Why doesn't she jump?
- 10:49Speaker 4: Why doesn't she be able to choose? And then we
- 10:50Speaker 4: had to just kind of explain those that's what you
- 10:52Speaker 4: get to do.
- 10:53Speaker 6: That's why we said, this is like your TVO remote.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Yeah, and exactly that, and then it for me so hard.
- 11:01Speaker 3: That is exactly what this is. It's just like this
- 11:04Speaker 3: except there's an element of magic and whimsy.
- 11:07Speaker 6: Then I'm sure you guys will get into but.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Well, I wanted to point one thing out too before
- 11:12Speaker 1: we get into talking about it, because I love to
- 11:14Speaker 1: discuss exactly what this game is. But one thing that
- 11:17Speaker 1: we did run into since you came on, Sharon, was
- 11:20Speaker 1: that you didn't like the angle we had Regina georgiad
- 11:24Speaker 1: because as a character, well a character, Yeah, we're playing
- 11:27Speaker 1: her from behind, so we're kind of seeing her, but
- 11:29Speaker 1: so you made us shift so we had to see
- 11:31Speaker 1: her front ways, which dynamically was really hard to play
- 11:34Speaker 1: the video game if you're only if you're basically walking backwards,
- 11:37Speaker 1: like if the lenses backwards seeing seeing Regina's best angle.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Right, relaying first person from the front a video.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Game territory a video game has never seen before, and
- 11:51Speaker 2: we accidentally fell into groundbreaking, groundbreaking, and I.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Would say, this is not the ground we wanted to break, right,
- 11:59Speaker 1: this is not the groundmy are looking to break.
- 12:02Speaker 4: A level of a video game, Yeah, it was. It's
- 12:04Speaker 4: like one of those level of video games where you're
- 12:06Speaker 4: running away from a boulder that's chasing you. That kind
- 12:09Speaker 4: of became the whole video game for a section of it.
- 12:12Speaker 4: But I think we worked around it in a nice way.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Figure.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, But it all starts with done More because he
- 12:16Speaker 2: has the book and he works and that's how like
- 12:19Speaker 2: explain that, demmr.
- 12:19Speaker 6: And then we'll go through the process because it is
- 12:21Speaker 6: pretty crazy with movie video games specifically.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, so this is the fifth adaptation of this story, right.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It started with Queen Bees and Wannabes, which is a
- 12:30Speaker 1: book in the early two thousands, and then it became
- 12:33Speaker 1: a movie in two thousand and four, and then it
- 12:35Speaker 1: became a musical in the mid twenty tens, and now
- 12:38Speaker 1: it's a movie musical, and after that, now it's a
- 12:41Speaker 1: video game. So the question is which one of these
- 12:43Speaker 1: are we adapting? And the answer is yes, yes.
- 12:47Speaker 2: The answer is yes. And also the answer is Renee
- 12:50Speaker 2: rap yes.
- 12:51Speaker 3: And I would like to point out, you know, and
- 12:54Speaker 3: I would like to re emphasize the title of the
- 12:57Speaker 3: video game is Mean Girls. The be the musical starring
- 13:02Speaker 3: Renee rap video.
- 13:03Speaker 6: It's the video game.
- 13:07Speaker 4: But that's really small. It almost feels like you're playing
- 13:09Speaker 4: a Blu Ray.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But you know what's fun is, you know, social media
- 13:13Speaker 1: guided us into what we needed in the video game
- 13:16Speaker 1: because you know, Mean Girls is one of the first
- 13:18Speaker 1: memified movies. So this is a game where we were
- 13:21Speaker 1: leading off the memes. So what are some of the
- 13:24Speaker 1: big moments. Of course, you get to do a just
- 13:26Speaker 1: dance style dance for the jingle bell rock. Of course,
- 13:30Speaker 1: you you're passing out Valentine's to Glenn Coco. That's a
- 13:33Speaker 1: side quest. That's a really fun activity.
- 13:35Speaker 6: And we actually got the guy who does link in
- 13:39Speaker 6: uh Coco.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yeah, super small. We got the super Smash Brothers guy. Yeah,
- 13:44Speaker 1: it was awesome.
- 13:45Speaker 4: The guy who does link just the voice of the announcements.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I was doing an example Skylarks get we Get Wild,
- 13:54Speaker 2: like I was doing an example.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Hey guys, can I just remind you guys, we don't
- 13:58Speaker 1: we don't fight vocally here. We fight on a Google doc, right,
- 14:01Speaker 1: So if you guys have issues, just getting back in
- 14:03Speaker 1: the Google doc and fight.
- 14:04Speaker 7: Oh my god.
- 14:05Speaker 3: I have to say, for the outside listeners, this Google
- 14:08Speaker 3: doc was was mean.
- 14:10Speaker 6: It was so mean.
- 14:11Speaker 3: I've never seen these people go at each other in
- 14:14Speaker 3: a way that I've let you guys know extremely personal
- 14:17Speaker 3: details about each other, talking about whose toes are bigger
- 14:21Speaker 3: than whose toes, and who is and who's and who's
- 14:23Speaker 3: got a house that's built on a shaky foundation.
- 14:26Speaker 6: How would you know that?
- 14:27Speaker 1: Well, share, you spend so much time rendering, we end
- 14:29Speaker 1: up doing all sorts of shit when you're making a
- 14:31Speaker 1: video game, right, you gotta wait ninety six hours for
- 14:34Speaker 1: one frame to settle.
- 14:35Speaker 7: So we're doing some weird shit over there.
- 14:39Speaker 4: So let's jump into what type of game this actually is?
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah, Skylark, this is your thing because you reatly saw it.
- 14:46Speaker 4: You know, when you when you're adapting a movie into
- 14:48Speaker 4: a video game, you know, a lot of ip just
- 14:50Speaker 4: goes for simplicity. You have Game of Thrones just doing
- 14:53Speaker 4: basically a card game.
- 14:54Speaker 5: You have Harry Potter.
- 14:55Speaker 4: You know, over the years they've gotten better, but they
- 14:57Speaker 4: start off pretty small. And we decided to hit it
- 15:01Speaker 4: head on with an open world action RPG where you
- 15:04Speaker 4: play as a student in the Mean Girls universe and
- 15:07Speaker 4: you can run all over the school and into a
- 15:09Speaker 4: couple of people's houses. We did a spin on class
- 15:13Speaker 4: and faction. You can choose your favorite class, and you
- 15:16Speaker 4: can choose your favorite after school club. Now, as you
- 15:20Speaker 4: go through high school experience, you will be leveling up
- 15:22Speaker 4: and seeing if you become a mean girl, a nice girl,
- 15:25Speaker 4: a smart girl, or one of the other girls.
- 15:27Speaker 6: That's Skylark, Skylark.
- 15:28Speaker 5: It's called a plastic, a plastic. Yes, sorry, thank you
- 15:32Speaker 5: so much. So you'll be spending points, Skylark.
- 15:35Speaker 6: It's called a plastic.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Yes, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Don't
- 15:40Speaker 5: point the gun at your own head.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Please, don't point the gun at your own head.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Sharon, Sharon can't threaten her us, so she threatens herself.
- 15:52Speaker 4: We all hate violence, actually.
- 15:54Speaker 1: So we hate violence. We hate violence. And Sharon, I look,
- 15:57Speaker 1: let's talk about it in this day and age. In
- 15:59Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, or Sharon was bringing a gun to
- 16:02Speaker 1: the office and threatening to kill herself follow drugond Sharon,
- 16:07Speaker 1: that's not okay. I just want to bring it up.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Sorry, dog, I'm an old dog. I used to be
- 16:13Speaker 6: a p I.
- 16:14Speaker 3: I was hunting down bad guys Okay, as a mad
- 16:18Speaker 3: a rap said, I want the meanest, I want the
- 16:21Speaker 3: doggiest dog out there to make sure that this video
- 16:24Speaker 3: game doesn't fuck up my ship. And you know what,
- 16:28Speaker 3: she got her. And I'm sorry for threatening to kill
- 16:30Speaker 3: my wife. I don't mean it. I'm not gonna do it.
- 16:34Speaker 3: I just like theater.
- 16:36Speaker 5: Go ahead.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Our building is right next to Riot Games. We're in
- 16:39Speaker 2: the hardest Santa Monica and you and it is. It
- 16:41Speaker 2: is absolutely incredible. When Sharon Sanders pulls in in her
- 16:45Speaker 2: red Tesla and she comes out packing.
- 16:48Speaker 1: It's crazy. They had to clear out Tacos del Mundo
- 16:51Speaker 1: once you guys ever been there, it's right there on
- 16:53Speaker 1: twenty six.
- 16:55Speaker 6: Yeah, and I was just scratched in my head that time.
- 17:00Speaker 4: So anyway, your character is selectable from very many playable characters.
- 17:06Speaker 4: But at the beginning you want to choose what part
- 17:08Speaker 4: of the world your parents are from. Yes, Unfortunately, no
- 17:11Speaker 4: matter what you choose, your character is white. So we
- 17:14Speaker 4: can have that trademark moment when you first show up
- 17:16Speaker 4: at the school where we say, wait, you're from Japan,
- 17:19Speaker 4: but why are you white? Or wait, you're from Kemchuka,
- 17:23Speaker 4: but why are you white? So it's a great opportunity.
- 17:28Speaker 4: We have to make the character white for the whole thing, though,
- 17:30Speaker 4: to make that work. It's such a blast.
- 17:33Speaker 1: It's really fun and I want to mention too. You know,
- 17:35Speaker 1: you are a new student north Shore High School, the
- 17:37Speaker 1: actual high school for me and girls. But we're not
- 17:39Speaker 1: going with the literal route, right. It's an open world,
- 17:42Speaker 1: so you can make your own version of a character.
- 17:45Speaker 1: You're not playing Katie Heron, but Katie Heron does exist
- 17:47Speaker 1: in kind of a wise old mentor style that you'll
- 17:50Speaker 1: pop into every now and then.
- 17:52Speaker 6: She's Yoda. She's like Yoda.
- 17:55Speaker 4: You can visit her in the girl's bathroom. She hangs
- 17:58Speaker 4: out there and gives you solid advice. If you ever
- 18:00Speaker 4: get stuck on a quest, she can help you out.
- 18:03Speaker 4: And yes, we've got twenty hours of playable main quest,
- 18:07Speaker 4: plus another one hundred hours of.
- 18:08Speaker 5: Side quests and achievements that you can unlock.
- 18:11Speaker 4: You can unlock the achievement of give the best blowjob
- 18:14Speaker 4: and get written up on the wall. You can do
- 18:16Speaker 4: the achievement of say the meanest thing to a person
- 18:19Speaker 4: and break them so they think about committing suicide. You
- 18:22Speaker 4: can get the achievement a ton of other achievement, you guys,
- 18:25Speaker 4: think of any other achievements, I mean.
- 18:27Speaker 2: I mean, well, the ultimate achievement is level four when
- 18:29Speaker 2: you finally get to the creation of the burn Book.
- 18:31Speaker 6: And the burn Book we absolutely made to.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Be like a crazy world that is different than the
- 18:39Speaker 2: movie the musical, or the movie and the musical.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and in that way, it's yeah, go ahead, Yeah,
- 18:44Speaker 1: the burn Book is amazing. And in that way, it's
- 18:46Speaker 1: just a scrap booking session, right. You basically just get
- 18:48Speaker 1: to sit down, and to me, it's the most soothing
- 18:51Speaker 1: part of the game. And I've found, we've tested it,
- 18:53Speaker 1: a lot of teenagers that are overstimulating, over stressed spend
- 18:57Speaker 1: almost more time in the burn Book section just kind
- 18:59Speaker 1: of making the layout and making sure that the that
- 19:02Speaker 1: the letters line up and you're drawing these things.
- 19:06Speaker 7: It's very sophisticated and very soothing, and that's kind of.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Our bread and butter, because yeah, here's the thing. It's
- 19:11Speaker 2: it's these stark shifts from the game where it's like, wait,
- 19:15Speaker 2: is this more like a role playing game or now
- 19:18Speaker 2: this is just like more of a soothing because it
- 19:20Speaker 2: goes back to a conversation that we have in our
- 19:22Speaker 2: office at Wednesday pictures constantly is.
- 19:24Speaker 6: Who is this game for?
- 19:26Speaker 4: Right?
- 19:26Speaker 6: Is it for gamers? Is it for me and girls? People?
- 19:29Speaker 6: This happened to us when we did Marley and Me
- 19:31Speaker 6: the video game.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah, we didn't know.
- 19:34Speaker 6: It's hard to know our audience people.
- 19:36Speaker 5: Is it for dogs? Is it for people that just
- 19:38Speaker 5: lost a dog? We could not tell.
- 19:40Speaker 6: Is it for gamers that just want a game?
- 19:42Speaker 1: We located the location of where most people were playing
- 19:46Speaker 1: the game, and it was hospitals, but we didn't know.
- 19:48Speaker 1: We couldn't get data beyond that, like.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Who at the hospital because the hospital is a variant
- 19:52Speaker 2: of different people. But that's the reason why the burn
- 19:55Speaker 2: book switches into a crafting area so we can have
- 19:59Speaker 2: a more relaxing, more of a Tetris like version.
- 20:03Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I like that, And I want.
- 20:06Speaker 3: To say something I also really appreciated was and I
- 20:11Speaker 3: correct me if I'm wrong, But you guys were explaining
- 20:14Speaker 3: to me how there is a level where once you
- 20:16Speaker 3: achieve enough side quests, you earn Fetch status, and then
- 20:21Speaker 3: once you earn Fetch status, you get to start making
- 20:24Speaker 3: changes to the game yourself.
- 20:26Speaker 6: You then become an architect in the video game.
- 20:29Speaker 4: It's a crazy choice we made, but we just said
- 20:31Speaker 4: fuck it. So once you get if you do enough
- 20:34Speaker 4: side quest to get Fetch status, you actually get to
- 20:37Speaker 4: design certain aspects of the video game, like how quests
- 20:41Speaker 4: work and where do you know cash files go.
- 20:44Speaker 6: And really advanced type coding stuff.
- 20:48Speaker 2: And I'll say it's kind of right that I'll be honest,
- 20:52Speaker 2: this is an interview. I know that people talk about
- 20:54Speaker 2: process on here. That's kind of when things got difficult
- 20:58Speaker 2: for us as a creative team is to take the
- 21:01Speaker 2: creative control out of our hands and into the player's hands.
- 21:04Speaker 4: We are almost like Minecraft god Mode, so you can
- 21:07Speaker 4: play as a Mindcraft character and then you can also
- 21:09Speaker 4: just become a god that floats around messing with things
- 21:11Speaker 4: and creating things. But instead of bricks, you actually fundamentally
- 21:15Speaker 4: get to break the game and enter the code. It's
- 21:18Speaker 4: super fun, it's super interesting. You can change the game
- 21:21Speaker 4: to anything you really want. If you understand code well enough.
- 21:24Speaker 6: You can change everything.
- 21:25Speaker 7: But Renee, Yeah, Renee is a block.
- 21:27Speaker 1: But I would say it is hard to I would
- 21:31Speaker 1: say personally, of course, Sharon. I would say personally, it's
- 21:34Speaker 1: hard for me sometimes to wake up and think, what's
- 21:36Speaker 1: my game? Now? You know what I mean, that's what's
- 21:38Speaker 1: hard for me to go into the game and be like, oh,
- 21:40Speaker 1: they're doing bumper cars, but they're dressed as Jigglypuff, Like
- 21:44Speaker 1: this is me and girls the video game now, I guess,
- 21:47Speaker 1: you know. And then we have to clean it up
- 21:48Speaker 1: and fix it and change it and change it. And
- 21:49Speaker 1: then I go back to bed, and then I wake
- 21:50Speaker 1: up and it's a bunch of people dress like Jack
- 21:53Speaker 1: and Daxter jacking each other off. But when they come,
- 21:56Speaker 1: Freakazoid comes out. You know, it's like stuff like that,
- 21:58Speaker 1: and I don't know what they're doing. I don't know why,
- 22:01Speaker 1: and it's hard. It's hard to figure out. I would say,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I wish we could lock it, just for me, if
- 22:07Speaker 1: we're speaking candidly, and I put this in Google doc
- 22:09Speaker 1: over and over, I wish we could lock it and
- 22:11Speaker 1: go back to, you know, just letting the game we
- 22:13Speaker 1: made settle.
- 22:14Speaker 4: This is actually maybe a great time to bring in
- 22:16Speaker 4: the the AI disaster we've been having. We built an
- 22:20Speaker 4: AI code let Ai into it to design Renee Rap
- 22:23Speaker 4: perfectly to act like Renee Rap, and now the code
- 22:26Speaker 4: has gotten sentient and acts as its own and kind
- 22:30Speaker 4: of has been taking over the game.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Renee Rap style.
- 22:33Speaker 4: So we want to say that we know where the
- 22:35Speaker 4: story is going. But I will say at this point,
- 22:38Speaker 4: there's no way to beat Renee Rap, and there's no
- 22:40Speaker 4: way to take down Regina George because Renee Wrap, the
- 22:43Speaker 4: AI has taken over.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it's something we want to work on, or that
- 22:48Speaker 3: we've been trying to coordinate between our teams. Is it
- 22:52Speaker 3: appears that poetically, the only way to defeat the AI
- 22:56Speaker 3: Renee Rap is a one v one monoa with.
- 23:00Speaker 6: The real Renee Rap.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Now, yeah, Renee is skeptical about playing this game. She's
- 23:06Speaker 3: skeptical about She isn't sure what could happen if she
- 23:12Speaker 3: debates an AI version of herself on a national stage.
- 23:16Speaker 3: But it's one v one.
- 23:18Speaker 6: It is one v one.
- 23:19Speaker 1: It is not I think this is just the fifty
- 23:22Speaker 1: seven and you talking about it. You're the one who
- 23:23Speaker 1: brought up the national stage, right, You're the one who
- 23:25Speaker 1: made this public. You're the one who's made this vocal.
- 23:28Speaker 1: We can just have her come in and we can
- 23:30Speaker 1: set her up with the private session. We just need
- 23:32Speaker 1: her to talk to the AI because the A won't
- 23:33Speaker 1: speak to us.
- 23:34Speaker 3: And again, I'm sorry, but Renee's time is extremely valuable.
- 23:39Speaker 3: We have a very brief pocket in her career where
- 23:41Speaker 3: we are going to go balls to the wall at
- 23:44Speaker 3: a ten Renee raps. Team is full of a bunch
- 23:47Speaker 3: of dogs and.
- 23:48Speaker 5: Hounds who are.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Who are pouncing on every opportunity, and we are going
- 23:56Speaker 3: for it. We are going to get this woman the world.
- 24:00Speaker 3: We are going to give this woman the world, and
- 24:02Speaker 3: she deserves it. So if she's going to do something,
- 24:05Speaker 3: be it a battle of wits and strength with philosophical implications.
- 24:09Speaker 3: It's gonna be on a national stage. I'm sorry, we're
- 24:12Speaker 3: not passing that up. We plan our numbers project that
- 24:16Speaker 3: a AI Renee rap debating the real Renee rap will
- 24:21Speaker 3: draw greater numbers than the DNC debate. We have the numbers,
- 24:25Speaker 3: We've done the polling, and we know we've already got
- 24:28Speaker 3: Anderson Cooper locked.
- 24:30Speaker 6: We've got Don Lemon locked.
- 24:32Speaker 5: We've got a debate style. It's all philosophical debate.
- 24:37Speaker 1: No disrespect, no disrespect. Not hard to lock Don Lemon
- 24:40Speaker 1: right now.
- 24:41Speaker 4: Is also not hard to beat the current DNC debates,
- 24:46Speaker 4: not a hard number to beat.
- 24:48Speaker 1: It's about four hundred thousand.
- 24:49Speaker 4: I think you know what, and I didn't political I.
- 24:53Speaker 6: Didn't come here to get political, okay, can't. I'm not
- 24:55Speaker 6: sure of here to get politic. I wish you wouldn't, Sharon,
- 24:59Speaker 6: it's crazy you think we're crazy. On our Google doc.
- 25:02Speaker 6: We don't fight out loud. We fight on the document.
- 25:04Speaker 2: You guys, I've only I know you at the Rap team,
- 25:07Speaker 2: but the rest of you, you guys fight with knives.
- 25:11Speaker 6: We do fight with knives.
- 25:13Speaker 3: We we so Renee likes to do this thing every
- 25:17Speaker 3: once in a while, every six months or so. It's
- 25:19Speaker 3: called a it's called a rap retreat, and it's where
- 25:22Speaker 3: we all sit, Yeah, the Rap treat exactly. And uh,
- 25:27Speaker 3: we each every member of her team. So we're talking publicists, agents, hair, makeup,
- 25:34Speaker 3: glam stylist, uh, therapist, doctor, literally everybody and me private
- 25:42Speaker 3: investigator of course. And we sit around in a circle,
- 25:46Speaker 3: each holding a knife and we have a staring contest
- 25:49Speaker 3: and basically, whoever blinks first is in trouble.
- 25:54Speaker 6: Is that our publicist guy.
- 25:57Speaker 3: The knife is just for show and again and I
- 26:00Speaker 3: want to em beside all all weapons we carry on us,
- 26:03Speaker 3: it's purely for theatrics. But you guys, we're just so
- 26:08Speaker 3: we're just so happy that in this game I think.
- 26:12Speaker 4: We're happy and we're scared because I mean, for me
- 26:14Speaker 4: a little bit. We left the AI alone, we left
- 26:16Speaker 4: the video game alone, and it started kind of skyheading.
- 26:18Speaker 4: It's built another video game entirely. That's kind of a
- 26:22Speaker 4: physical formation of a video game. It's I left the
- 26:26Speaker 4: video game overnight, came back to kind of a bionical
- 26:28Speaker 4: leg thing being built on the three D.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it was weird. I my daughter was My daughter
- 26:34Speaker 1: was playing this game and I walked in and I said,
- 26:36Speaker 1: are you enjoying it? And she said, well, why did
- 26:38Speaker 1: you make us all play a game? And I was like,
- 26:40Speaker 1: what do you mean? She was like, I walked into
- 26:41Speaker 1: the high school as my character. Everybody, all the characters
- 26:44Speaker 1: are on their phones. And then and then she picked
- 26:47Speaker 1: up her phone and then she was playing basically a
- 26:49Speaker 1: version of Candy Crush.
- 26:52Speaker 6: So that's really scary. I can't even follow.
- 26:54Speaker 1: That really strange. So you you set up your character
- 26:57Speaker 1: and you walk in and then now all the characters
- 27:00Speaker 1: world or addicted to a game that isn't the game
- 27:03Speaker 1: that they're playing, so they won't it's wrap Crush, and
- 27:06Speaker 1: they won't do the activities or the side quest, and
- 27:10Speaker 1: they won't set up, and the NPCs are not NPC ing,
- 27:13Speaker 1: and so now you can just do what everyone else is.
- 27:15Speaker 6: But I'm sorry, video games.
- 27:17Speaker 2: If the video game culture isn't speaking on itself, I
- 27:21Speaker 2: think what we're doing is huge. It reminds me of
- 27:24Speaker 2: when I created a cash app on a on a
- 27:26Speaker 2: game Boy. What we're doing is so unnecessary and doesn't
- 27:29Speaker 2: make sense and that and that is where true change happens.
- 27:33Speaker 2: I mean, I told you guys this when we said no,
- 27:35Speaker 2: we famed up Wednesday pictures.
- 27:37Speaker 6: We we uh. They asked us to do a call
- 27:39Speaker 6: Me by your Name game and we said no, oh episode.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, called me yeah, and that was uh because
- 27:47Speaker 1: I we didn't want to do an army Hammer h Ai. No.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I said yes. I said yes because I kissed that
- 27:52Speaker 1: guy in college. But then you guys shut me down.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Yeah, we said no, no, no, we really respect that
- 27:57Speaker 4: you kiss somebody in college, but we can't with army
- 28:00Speaker 4: hammer right now because.
- 28:01Speaker 5: That AI would kill people. That AI death. That's true.
- 28:04Speaker 1: But the peach was gonna be so cute. The peach
- 28:07Speaker 1: was gonna be, It's gonna be, it was gonna be
- 28:09Speaker 1: the new uh Daxter jacket.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Daxter, you Love Jacket Baxter Love Jack video game.
- 28:17Speaker 1: You've ever played the new Kazuoi from Banjo Kazooi.
- 28:22Speaker 5: Yeah? Nice, Yeah, something.
- 28:24Speaker 6: I really appreciate.
- 28:25Speaker 7: Uh that.
- 28:25Speaker 3: I just want to also give you guys props on
- 28:28Speaker 3: is it's a musical. I don't know how you guys
- 28:34Speaker 3: pulled that off. I don't know how because of course
- 28:37Speaker 3: you are adapting all versions and so uh, this video
- 28:41Speaker 3: game is.
- 28:41Speaker 6: The only video game that is also a musical.
- 28:45Speaker 5: For what I super fun will be playing through musicals.
- 28:50Speaker 4: It's almost like the we have an accessible you have
- 28:53Speaker 4: to turn on your microphone and it becomes kind of
- 28:55Speaker 4: like rock band for just you score points based on
- 28:59Speaker 4: how well you sing and hell we you can dance
- 29:02Speaker 4: and it is a blast.
- 29:03Speaker 1: It's really fun. And this was really fun to shoot
- 29:06Speaker 1: you because we did to use a lot of mocap
- 29:07Speaker 1: for this, and we haven't talked about that process. We
- 29:10Speaker 1: had some people come in. Lizzie Kaplan the original Janis
- 29:14Speaker 1: for Me and girls inexplicably signed on to do mo
- 29:17Speaker 1: cap for this so quickly, so quickly, and Lizzy's busy.
- 29:21Speaker 6: I feel like she's busy, but she emailed us.
- 29:25Speaker 7: I feel like, yeah, we.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Had we had Amy Poehler and Busy Phillips trading off
- 29:32Speaker 1: to play the mom, which is uh a kind of
- 29:34Speaker 1: a Five Nights at Freddie's style. When you walk into
- 29:37Speaker 1: the when you walk into Regina George's mom's house, that's
- 29:41Speaker 1: you know, you gotta.
- 29:42Speaker 5: Keep horror video game. It becomes a very.
- 29:44Speaker 1: It becomes a horror Keep an eye on the mom
- 29:47Speaker 1: via the camera, or she'll come in and give you
- 29:49Speaker 1: a breast job.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Yeah, were a breast job.
- 29:54Speaker 5: A breast job we couldn't legally.
- 29:56Speaker 4: We couldn't legally get boob job, so we have a
- 29:59Speaker 4: trade job. I would also love to talk about, you know,
- 30:05Speaker 4: the beautiful thing about this game, and like all the
- 30:08Speaker 4: the adaptations, is every adaptation seems to get a little
- 30:12Speaker 4: less funny and a little less fun and we try
- 30:14Speaker 4: to lean into that as much as possible. In our
- 30:17Speaker 4: video game, we are lightly changing the characters in the
- 30:20Speaker 4: dialogue and the acting to make it seem just not
- 30:24Speaker 4: as good we thought it would capture this beautiful trend.
- 30:28Speaker 4: I mean, we've all seen the trailer of this new
- 30:30Speaker 4: Me and Girls and we are so ecstatic because it
- 30:32Speaker 4: looks like they took the original and just kind of
- 30:35Speaker 4: made it worse, and that's really excited.
- 30:39Speaker 6: There were a lot of lines in this, in this
- 30:41Speaker 6: video game that made me laugh less, which I really appreciated.
- 30:45Speaker 4: You still laugh though you still still laughed. It almost
- 30:48Speaker 4: makes you nostalgic for how fun the original movie was,
- 30:51Speaker 4: you know, so.
- 30:51Speaker 2: At this point you should miss the older, oldest version,
- 30:55Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like we're like we're spinning
- 30:57Speaker 2: it on its head a little bit, and it's just great.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I feel like it's really important for Wednesday Pictures to
- 31:02Speaker 2: be finally getting the recognition we deserve. I feel like
- 31:06Speaker 2: this group of people like Sharon Side and sharing, I
- 31:09Speaker 2: love your work, but I do feel like we've.
- 31:11Speaker 5: I love your work, sharing all your work.
- 31:15Speaker 6: And I appreciate it. And thank you for reading my scripts.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Thank you so much for reading look.
- 31:22Speaker 1: In my spare time. I would love to help you
- 31:24Speaker 1: turn that your life into a video game. I know
- 31:27Speaker 1: that's what you were writing, and it's very interesting, very darkness, very.
- 31:31Speaker 5: Dark, but very well.
- 31:32Speaker 3: Thank you And if you can, I mean, God knows
- 31:37Speaker 3: the amount of twists and turns my life is taken
- 31:40Speaker 3: through through various countries, various jobs. I mean, we're not
- 31:44Speaker 3: here to talk about me, but I would really I, Oh, man,
- 31:49Speaker 3: I would freak the frick out if I saw.
- 31:52Speaker 6: That in a video game.
- 31:53Speaker 1: I would say, oh, I was just gonna say, I
- 31:56Speaker 1: think you are. I would say, it's it's a big
- 31:59Speaker 1: reach to get you to your life to be a
- 32:01Speaker 1: video game. But but I do think if you go
- 32:03Speaker 1: to some of those open calls, you could end up
- 32:05Speaker 1: being a Fortnite character. I really think I.
- 32:07Speaker 6: Think he could. I think you could.
- 32:09Speaker 7: We're Mortal Kombat or you know, a fall guys.
- 32:12Speaker 5: I think you could easily absolutely fall guys.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Your cheeks, your cheeks look exactly like all those fall
- 32:18Speaker 2: guys exactly.
- 32:20Speaker 6: I can't tell if this is a compliment or an insult.
- 32:23Speaker 7: It's lucrative. It's what it is, is lucrative.
- 32:25Speaker 6: It's lucrative.
- 32:26Speaker 3: So if I'm showing up to an open call for Fortnite,
- 32:28Speaker 3: am I dancing?
- 32:30Speaker 5: Is that what it is?
- 32:31Speaker 1: But you have to dance quote unquote, you know, you
- 32:33Speaker 1: gotta shake your hands a little bit.
- 32:34Speaker 6: I got a couple left feet and two right arms,
- 32:36Speaker 6: so I'm not sure. I'm not sure what I do
- 32:38Speaker 6: with that, and that's for sure.
- 32:40Speaker 3: But you guys, I was taking a look at your
- 32:43Speaker 3: at your break room uh, the other day, And you
- 32:47Speaker 3: guys have worked on so many other video games. I
- 32:52Speaker 3: was blown away so many I had never heard of
- 32:55Speaker 3: the the March of the Penguins video game. Yeah, seem
- 32:59Speaker 3: to get an you have like a one star review
- 33:02Speaker 3: from GameStop post.
- 33:04Speaker 7: Well, it was.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Tough, but we loved it. It was one of our
- 33:06Speaker 4: first practices. We loved the idea, but in the playing
- 33:09Speaker 4: what we realized when we released it is it's not
- 33:12Speaker 4: that fun to just march as a penguin. At the beginning,
- 33:15Speaker 4: it's a blast, but doing twenty hours of just marching
- 33:18Speaker 4: forward from food to sea from.
- 33:21Speaker 6: Food, oh there's no goal.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Well no, it turns out. Yeah, it's just it's very doable.
- 33:25Speaker 1: To be honest, it's not hard, and it's.
- 33:27Speaker 4: Just very slow moving and you're just marching with a
- 33:30Speaker 4: bunch of other penguins. And also devastating video game because
- 33:34Speaker 4: the whole goal of it is to make it till
- 33:36Speaker 4: you raise a kid.
- 33:37Speaker 5: And then you can just die. You get it, get well?
- 33:39Speaker 2: Yeah, But you know, I think like with March of
- 33:41Speaker 2: the Penguins, it was such an easy example that like
- 33:43Speaker 2: adaptation can be whatever you want it to be.
- 33:46Speaker 6: Like my dissertation when I was in grad school. I did.
- 33:50Speaker 6: I made the national anthem a song into a video
- 33:53Speaker 6: game that.
- 33:54Speaker 5: Was so fun. That's why we hired you.
- 33:56Speaker 6: Thank you so much. Yeah, yeah, no, that is yeah.
- 33:58Speaker 2: And it was like one of those things where it's
- 33:59Speaker 2: like that nine to eleven Seinfeld script went viral. So
- 34:03Speaker 2: did my uh my, uh what did you say?
- 34:07Speaker 5: My say you got it?
- 34:10Speaker 6: File needs more kickstart.
- 34:13Speaker 4: Your national anthem, your national juice pluger in?
- 34:17Speaker 5: Well, how did you? And and remind me how we
- 34:19Speaker 5: played that game again? What was that? How did you
- 34:21Speaker 5: play that game?
- 34:22Speaker 6: So you climb up the flag right.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Right, it's kind of a shoots and ladder situation.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, that's basically really it. And then when you
- 34:30Speaker 2: beat it, you have to hear the whole song.
- 34:33Speaker 7: Yeah yeah.
- 34:34Speaker 6: That sounds like a video game with a punishment. Yeah.
- 34:38Speaker 4: Well, and that's why it went viral. It was one
- 34:39Speaker 4: of the first video games with the punishment if you win.
- 34:43Speaker 1: I I really love all the games we've put together.
- 34:46Speaker 1: We have worked so hard on so many movie video
- 34:49Speaker 1: games that have gone or haven't gone. I'm specifically right
- 34:52Speaker 1: now thinking about our Birdman video game and acclaim. I'm
- 34:57Speaker 1: really I'm really bummed. Out because it was really cool.
- 35:01Speaker 4: It was mostly a game about having to memorize your
- 35:04Speaker 4: lines for a play. So basically what you would do
- 35:08Speaker 4: is you'd get a script and you could look on
- 35:10Speaker 4: the script on the video and turn the pages and
- 35:12Speaker 4: then you'd have a performance. And basically it was how
- 35:14Speaker 4: many lines could you get? Right?
- 35:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it was. It was a little more like an
- 35:18Speaker 1: actor simulator like where it was just felt like or
- 35:21Speaker 1: like a mortician when you work at a morgue or
- 35:23Speaker 1: something like that. It was very granular and you can
- 35:25Speaker 1: look at the corridor, there'd be a birdman and and
- 35:28Speaker 1: you'd keep going.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Which was why I think that was our first game
- 35:31Speaker 2: that we started working with musicians and we had musician
- 35:34Speaker 2: sessions because we had these bongo drum players.
- 35:38Speaker 5: And it was very district.
- 35:39Speaker 4: We realized it was super distracting to have blasting bongo
- 35:42Speaker 4: music in your ear while you're trying to recite some lines.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Which led to our Sam Smith video game, by the way,
- 35:47Speaker 1: which I thought was gonna go great.
- 35:49Speaker 5: It's gonna go great.
- 35:51Speaker 6: Unholy A journey through the Maze.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Yeah, unholy.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Uh.
- 35:58Speaker 6: Then where you're going with this one?
- 36:00Speaker 5: This one?
- 36:01Speaker 3: I I know you guys have tried to explain it
- 36:03Speaker 3: to be a bunch of times, and I am still confused.
- 36:06Speaker 5: So what don't you get about it?
- 36:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's very simple. It's a very it's very simple.
- 36:10Speaker 1: You're a little slut. You've gotta go get your mom
- 36:12Speaker 1: and dad from the body shop. That's all that's happening.
- 36:14Speaker 6: And there at the end of a maze.
- 36:17Speaker 3: It is the sexy part of the body shop that
- 36:20Speaker 3: your parents are there together? Or are you the sexy part?
- 36:24Speaker 3: What part of the video game is sexy? Why is
- 36:26Speaker 3: this rated M for mature because the maze the maze
- 36:30Speaker 3: has nice, lumptuous hips.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Yeah, the maze has nice hips.
- 36:34Speaker 6: The maze a woman or cord was because.
- 36:39Speaker 5: The maze has nice hips.
- 36:41Speaker 4: We're not making any statement on the maze is gender
- 36:44Speaker 4: or sexuality.
- 36:45Speaker 5: We're just saying nice hips.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Okay, all right, don't try and turn your eyes on me.
- 36:51Speaker 3: I know I'm fifty seven, But but but, but but
- 36:56Speaker 3: but this this could this confused me. I'm sorry, I
- 37:01Speaker 3: got a little spit in my mouth. I think I
- 37:03Speaker 3: think i'm I'm I'm as as your video game lingo
- 37:06Speaker 3: would say, I think a'm glitchen.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Oh that's good, you're learning you guys.
- 37:12Speaker 3: You know, I was always curious about this. How did
- 37:14Speaker 3: you guys get into video games?
- 37:17Speaker 7: How did that happen?
- 37:18Speaker 4: I actually got into video games because I love video games.
- 37:22Speaker 5: I've played video games my whole life.
- 37:24Speaker 4: One of my favorite games ever was the Skyrim series,
- 37:27Speaker 4: and I just loved it, loved it, loved it that
- 37:29Speaker 4: I thought, you know what, why didn't I do it?
- 37:31Speaker 4: Do it?
- 37:31Speaker 1: Do it?
- 37:32Speaker 4: So I kind of fell into it that way. It
- 37:34Speaker 4: was amazing. It was fun and amazing.
- 37:37Speaker 1: I was a writer.
- 37:38Speaker 7: I loved writing, and I used to write these.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Really extensive, complicated web series and I'd show them to
- 37:46Speaker 1: my friends and they said, we can't make these, and
- 37:48Speaker 1: I would say, come on, they're fun. You know, they're
- 37:50Speaker 1: choosing on adventure. You can try different things out, you
- 37:52Speaker 1: can do that. You know, We'll make a web series
- 37:54Speaker 1: that has twenty five different options for the next link.
- 37:56Speaker 1: And they'll be like, you have nine followers on YouTube.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I'm not gonna make these with you. This is extensive.
- 38:02Speaker 1: We're all working. And I said, well, i'm not, and
- 38:04Speaker 1: I have money because I'm a third. Right, my my
- 38:06Speaker 1: grandfather did was up to something, and so wait, you're a.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Third, You're a third in a forgive me a polyamorous relationship.
- 38:14Speaker 7: No, a third in my family A junior junior done
- 38:17Speaker 7: Moore Roberts.
- 38:18Speaker 5: Sharon, I did not expect that from you. Nice job, Sharon.
- 38:22Speaker 6: I'm sorry.
- 38:23Speaker 3: I was watching the Sam Smith video game trailer and
- 38:26Speaker 3: I got all confused.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Oh, yes, we do, really really, Yeah, Sharon, you could
- 38:34Speaker 1: have you been playing the game a little bit?
- 38:36Speaker 7: I feel like you can.
- 38:37Speaker 5: Let's let's break it. We've all played tested it. We've
- 38:41Speaker 5: all played tested.
- 38:42Speaker 4: I want to hear how because you can each have
- 38:44Speaker 4: kind of like Balder's Gate three, the game kind of
- 38:47Speaker 4: adapts to you as you go. There's so many different
- 38:50Speaker 4: ways to get to the same place. I want to
- 38:52Speaker 4: hear what factions and classes you guys chose, and what
- 38:55Speaker 4: some highlights were for you guys playing this game, like
- 38:58Speaker 4: some of your favorite moments.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Well, I got the Deluxe package, which is what we're selling.
- 39:02Speaker 2: I think only in big cities. I think in La
- 39:05Speaker 2: New York you can get it.
- 39:06Speaker 5: Only big cities can you get the Yeah.
- 39:08Speaker 2: You can get the deluxe package just for now. It's
- 39:10Speaker 2: it's like a limited release. But ship if you get yeah,
- 39:13Speaker 2: shipping problems.
- 39:13Speaker 5: If you could we cannot. We write video games. We
- 39:17Speaker 5: do not work with physical media.
- 39:19Speaker 1: We're pivoting. Our distribution company is fucked. I think I
- 39:22Speaker 1: think they're going through a divorce or something, but our
- 39:24Speaker 1: distribution company is happening. It's just not who they were,
- 39:27Speaker 1: you know, it's not what they once were.
- 39:28Speaker 3: And you know what, that's just not us, that's not
- 39:30Speaker 3: I've gotta hook you guys up with my friends.
- 39:33Speaker 6: I know some teamsters out in Chicago probably.
- 39:38Speaker 5: Gonna thank you so much for your health care.
- 39:40Speaker 6: Thank you. Yeah.
- 39:42Speaker 2: I got the Deluxe package, which came with a pair
- 39:44Speaker 2: of tap shoes for for the where do You Belong number,
- 39:47Speaker 2: which is when, obviously, uh, when all of the clicks
- 39:53Speaker 2: at North Shore get divided into each other in.
- 39:56Speaker 5: The what click were you in? What click were you in?
- 39:58Speaker 5: When you got divided?
- 40:00Speaker 2: I did what was previously an inappropriate joke about people
- 40:04Speaker 2: with eating disorders. I put myself in The Girls who
- 40:08Speaker 2: Love Diets Click.
- 40:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:11Speaker 4: So we had to do a lot of rewriting from
- 40:13Speaker 4: the original movie two thousand and one to change the
- 40:16Speaker 4: clicks into appropriate twenty twenty four clicks. So, of course
- 40:20Speaker 4: you joined the Girls who Loved Dieting Click. Did you
- 40:24Speaker 4: have fun playing with that click.
- 40:25Speaker 6: I loved it.
- 40:26Speaker 2: And I had the tap shoes which connect to the game,
- 40:29Speaker 2: which is our little tie in for the musical, and
- 40:32Speaker 2: it was so fun.
- 40:34Speaker 4: You would not believe how hard it is to tie
- 40:36Speaker 4: to make tap shoes work as a workable controller.
- 40:40Speaker 5: I mean again against the ground.
- 40:42Speaker 6: But yes, we made Scarface into a music into a
- 40:45Speaker 6: video game. We could do it all.
- 40:46Speaker 4: We legitimately did do that, and it was huge Scarface
- 40:49Speaker 4: trading card game, very similar to Magic the Gathering.
- 40:52Speaker 5: We put it all online. It's super fun.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I had a really good time playing. I ended up
- 40:59Speaker 1: getting on a seat track, which I suggest you try
- 41:01Speaker 1: to get on it too. I ended up playing as
- 41:04Speaker 1: the girl who doesn't even go here. It was it's
- 41:08Speaker 1: a hard secret role to get into.
- 41:10Speaker 6: But the kids on Reddit are already figuring it out.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and that actress came back, that actress with
- 41:15Speaker 1: that incredibly recognizable face that I haven't seen since and
- 41:18Speaker 1: I hope she's working, but she came back for us,
- 41:21Speaker 1: and we got her likeness down to a tee And
- 41:26Speaker 1: it's really fun to play as her because you get
- 41:28Speaker 1: a little line and you get a solo song in
- 41:31Speaker 1: the assembly in the gym and other than that, that girl. Also,
- 41:36Speaker 1: I was part of the drama nerds. That was part
- 41:39Speaker 1: of it.
- 41:39Speaker 7: Oh no, no, no no. I was an athlete, so
- 41:42Speaker 7: you were.
- 41:42Speaker 2: A mathlete because you guys want to get to the
- 41:45Speaker 2: mathlete level where it's math.
- 41:48Speaker 5: It's just math.
- 41:49Speaker 4: You're just doing big equations. It's just Also in this
- 41:53Speaker 4: last playthrough, I had a really fun time. I actually
- 41:55Speaker 4: went on a secret too. I became the bus driver
- 41:58Speaker 4: and basically the whole game for me became a driving simulation.
- 42:02Speaker 4: But it's really really fast and you're kind of having
- 42:04Speaker 4: to dodge cars. And I'll let you guys on in
- 42:07Speaker 4: this little secret. If you become the bus driver, there
- 42:09Speaker 4: are thirteen workable stations and stops you need to stop at,
- 42:14Speaker 4: so you have nothing to do with the school, nothing
- 42:16Speaker 4: to do with the drama happening there. You're just driving
- 42:18Speaker 4: a bus and dropping people.
- 42:19Speaker 7: Off until, of course, until, of course, you kill Regina.
- 42:23Speaker 5: And that is a very dark thing.
- 42:25Speaker 4: Is you have to time it perfectly for her big monologue,
- 42:28Speaker 4: in her big moment, and we I.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Really worked with you to make sure that the monologue
- 42:32Speaker 3: was finished, that she got enough words out of there
- 42:36Speaker 3: before you hit her.
- 42:37Speaker 1: And I do want to say we changed the video
- 42:39Speaker 1: game a little bit and that Renee Rap does bounce
- 42:42Speaker 1: the the bus brakes when you hit.
- 42:45Speaker 7: Her right exactly.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Basically because she's so strong and powerful and she's an
- 42:50Speaker 1: independent and she's not gonna get hit by.
- 42:52Speaker 2: But I really like what you did, Sharon, where you
- 42:54Speaker 2: told us that on the bus, we had to write
- 42:57Speaker 2: when she's breaking the bus, the US then says on
- 43:01Speaker 2: the windows, it says, this is the music industry and
- 43:03Speaker 2: she's breaking it, exactly, breaking into.
- 43:07Speaker 6: The music industry.
- 43:07Speaker 2: It says, this is pop music and this is Renee
- 43:09Speaker 2: Rap popping in and I love it.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, And then you do have to listen to
- 43:15Speaker 3: a full version of Renee raps new song, which she's
- 43:19Speaker 3: gonna kill me for not remembering. I am in danger,
- 43:25Speaker 3: you guys. I played the game, and I honestly I'm
- 43:28Speaker 3: more confused than ever because I got on the famous
- 43:32Speaker 3: TikToker Chris Olsen cameo track. Yeah, and so I was
- 43:37Speaker 3: sort of just sitting around in a phone until I
- 43:40Speaker 3: was called, upon which case I posted a sort of
- 43:44Speaker 3: a witty, witty TikTok about the events that were unfolding.
- 43:50Speaker 5: It's super fun and just like his real life.
- 43:53Speaker 4: You do kind of hang out with Megan Trainer for
- 43:55Speaker 4: about twenty hours. It is a blast and such a
- 43:58Speaker 4: fun playable character.
- 44:00Speaker 5: We entered.
- 44:01Speaker 6: I was confused to meet Megan. I was confused, but
- 44:04Speaker 6: it seems like they have a great dynamic.
- 44:06Speaker 5: So fun.
- 44:08Speaker 4: We've got so many Easter eggs that you guys that
- 44:10Speaker 4: the Reddit boards are figuring out already.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Can't wait for you guys to get in this world.
- 44:15Speaker 1: And please don't change it too much. I want to
- 44:17Speaker 1: have something memberable to come back to every morning.
- 44:20Speaker 6: But also get in there and find where you belong.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, find it and know that this this game
- 44:29Speaker 2: is just the beginning of Wednesday pictures. We're just going
- 44:33Speaker 2: to like, just like you're going to recognize the name,
- 44:36Speaker 2: You're going to recognize us on your console.
- 44:40Speaker 6: So please just.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Like, let us know what you think of the game,
- 44:43Speaker 2: and let us know what fun tracks you find.
- 44:45Speaker 4: We're excited for you to play the original thing. We're
- 44:47Speaker 4: excited for you to play all the mini games. We
- 44:50Speaker 4: have a mini game where you get to buy and
- 44:53Speaker 4: sell the bars that make you overweight. We've got a
- 44:56Speaker 4: mini game for the athletes to play in the academic Kathlon.
- 45:01Speaker 5: We've got a mini game where you.
- 45:02Speaker 4: Help Tina Fey punch up the book and then help
- 45:06Speaker 4: her punch down the musical.
- 45:08Speaker 2: And we should probably address the rumors that if you
- 45:11Speaker 2: buy the chapter book, play the movie, also play the musical,
- 45:15Speaker 2: then play the movie musical and play our video game
- 45:17Speaker 2: in the same room, something magical happens, and should we
- 45:20Speaker 2: say something, should.
- 45:21Speaker 1: We should address the rumors nothing's gonna happen. I don't
- 45:25Speaker 1: know who started saying that there's no there's We wouldn't
- 45:29Speaker 1: be able to do anything with that. And I would
- 45:32Speaker 1: just say take it, take a cold shower, think for
- 45:34Speaker 1: a second, just for what you imagine could happen.
- 45:39Speaker 7: Just know that it won't Happping.
- 45:40Speaker 3: At your comments section for even a couple of minutes,
- 45:42Speaker 3: I'd say general advice for anybody on these hot message
- 45:45Speaker 3: boards is to take a shower.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I would I.
- 45:47Speaker 6: Think I think that I think that'd be.
- 45:49Speaker 5: Helpful for you.
- 45:50Speaker 4: And also I just want to say stop treating this
- 45:52Speaker 4: like ready player. One I think we forgot to mention
- 45:54Speaker 4: is that all playable characters, everybody is in the game
- 45:57Speaker 4: at once, just like World of four Craft. Yes, and
- 45:59Speaker 4: it's been becoming its own universe and is becoming its
- 46:01Speaker 4: own mean high school. So guys, lay off of the bullying, please.
- 46:06Speaker 4: I know it's integral to the movie.
- 46:08Speaker 5: But each other.
- 46:11Speaker 6: Disabled the chat. We can disable the chat anytime we want.
- 46:14Speaker 4: We have buttons, we can try to disable the chat,
- 46:17Speaker 4: but Renee raps Ai has forbade us from doing it,
- 46:20Speaker 4: so we are figuring out how to disable the chat.
- 46:23Speaker 4: So stop being mean to each other and stop treating
- 46:27Speaker 4: this like your new life.
- 46:28Speaker 5: It's not. It's just a video game. We're so excited
- 46:30Speaker 5: that you.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Like it, though, And I did want to go back
- 46:32Speaker 1: one second file you said this is just the beginning
- 46:35Speaker 1: of Wednesday pictures, and I would just like to say
- 46:37Speaker 1: that I actually think it's the middle. I think it's
- 46:39Speaker 1: the very, very solid middle. I think we're right in
- 46:43Speaker 1: the middle of what we.
- 46:44Speaker 6: Do and more, I think we just started.
- 46:48Speaker 1: I think in ten years there's a chance this won't
- 46:50Speaker 1: even be a blip on what we do. I think, hopefully.
