- 0:00Happy Monday.
- 0:02Years ago, I did a personal development program.
- 0:05Well, one of many programs that I've done, and the homework assignment for the first week was to not complain, to just not complain for a week.
- 0:20It sounded simple and.
- 0:22I was completely convinced I could do it without much effort, and I remember leaving the workshop calling a friend as I walked to the subway and suddenly it started raining, but the forecast hadn't called for rain, and there I was, no umbrella and completely unprepared for the downpour.
- 0:45And within seconds I was lamenting to my friend about how inaccurate the weather forecasters were and how frustrated I was to be drenched.
- 0:54In other words, I didn't even make it five minutes before I started to complain, and in that moment I realized something.
- 1:04It's not that I want to complain, it's just that I often don't even notice that I'm doing it.
- 1:11It just comes out.
- 1:14And that memory reminds me of a powerful phrase that I love.
- 1:19Your word is your wand.
- 1:22Your word is your wand.
- 1:26So here's my question for you today.
- 1:29If I listen to you for a full day.
- 1:32What would I hear you talk about?
- 1:35Because a lot of us say we want a good life, a happy life, a fulfilling, joyful life, but if someone followed us around and just listened, what would they actually hear?
- 1:48It can be easy to miss so much of what we say can be operating on autopilot.
- 1:55These small comments we make throughout the day.
- 1:58They can seem inconsequential, but they add up.
- 2:03They shape what we pay attention to, and that shapes how we feel, which essentially shapes our experience of life itself.
- 2:13So maybe just for today, pay attention to what you're saying.
- 2:19You might notice more than you expect.
- 2:22Cheers.
