- 0:12And we are back with you the third hour of The Morning Show with Preston
- 0:16Scott. I'm Preston. That's Grant sort of, it's a reasonable fact simile
- 0:23of Grant over there in Studio one A. I'm here in Studio one B,
- 0:28and it's time for a little more history. Doctor Ed Moore joins us
- 0:33Ed. How are you, sir? I'm doing pretty good all things considered.
- 0:38Looking at the state of the world right now, I'm trying to stay
- 0:41optimistic. We decided this week that we would focus in because it is such
- 0:48an important topic on Israel. So where do you want to pick up the
- 0:54history of Israel, because obviously this is a story that begins long before nineteen
- 1:00forty eight. Yeah, there are those in the world today that like to
- 1:06think that Israel, the people, the Jewish people in that area, just
- 1:11started, you know, nineteen forty eight. If you go back to Abraham,
- 1:15that's about four thousand years ago, and Moses would be about thirty four
- 1:21thirty five hundred years ago. The region has had conflict for a very,
- 1:26very long time. What's going on now is not new by my count since
- 1:34Israel declared its independence from Great Britain. Actually, most people don't understand that
- 1:38in nineteen forty eight, there have been seventeen or eighteen named conflicts with the
- 1:48surrounding populations or surrounding countries or groups like Commas or Ismaelah. So it's been
- 1:55at constant turmoil basically since nineteen forty eight, probably more time at war then
- 2:01at peace. So there's nothing new to this. There's just a lot of
- 2:07history behind all of this that most people don't understand. And nineteen forty eight
- 2:14when they declared independence and Great Britain had been ruling the region for about forty
- 2:20years since the end of World War One. For about four hundred years prior
- 2:23to that, the Ottomans, ostensibly what now are the Turks, were ruling
- 2:30the region and the region in those days we included Iran, Iraq, Turkey,
- 2:38Syria, a large swath of land were under control of the Ottoman Empire.
- 2:44That all ended with the end of World War One and the defeat of
- 2:46the Ottoman Empire. But what also began then was what we then later termed
- 2:54as genocide. The Turks had a huge activities of genocide against the Armenian Christians.
- 3:04They expelled Jews from the region. Jews had no place to go.
- 3:08They expelled Jews out of Syria. I mean, it's been this whole issue,
- 3:14and all the issues surrounding this have been in place for a very,
- 3:17very long time. So no one should be surprised that it's finally finally appearing
- 3:23to really blow up at this point in time. You know, you go
- 3:28back to its biblical roots, and obviously for some people that's a matter of
- 3:32faith on whether you believe all that stuff or not. One thing we know,
- 3:38the history tells us that the Jewish people were in essence forced out of
- 3:43the area. In seventy a d. The Roman government archived what took place,
- 3:49and they were literally dispersed to the four corners of the world. I'm
- 3:53of the opinion add that it took the sympathies of the world following World War
- 3:58Two before there was a climate that said, yeah, these people deserve a
- 4:03homeland. Yeah, and it began, actually, the seeds of it began
- 4:10during World War One with the Balfour Declaration, right. But you know,
- 4:15people try to act as if the countries were trying to expel the Jews.
- 4:18In reality, the prominent Jewish families like the Rothschilds and others were pushing for
- 4:27this to occur and pushing to allow them. In nineteen forty well, at
- 4:30the end of World War One, maybe ten percent of the population and what
- 4:35is now Israel were Jewish because they had all been pushed out for so many
- 4:41years. It gave a good opportunity to create a nation, to create some
- 4:47borders. Originally they had what they called the Green Line that created the borders
- 4:54for that region, and that would then become is the modern version of Israel.
- 5:00It settled for a very short period of time. I mean in nineteen
- 5:04forty eight when they declared independence, there was the Arab Israeli's War that had
- 5:10been going on as militia fighting. Now they're a nation. And oddly,
- 5:15when you look at these kinds of things, Russia or the Soviet Union in
- 5:20nineteen forty eight was the very first country to recognize, diplomatically recognize Israel the
- 5:29new nation. The Morning Show with Preston Scott, Hello, Hello, anybody
- 5:32O Hi on News Radio one hundred point seven WFLA. Each month we talk
- 5:43history on the Morning Show with Preston Scott. Our contribution to the education of
- 5:47the masses with doctor Ed Moore, a little more history we're talking about the
- 5:53history of Israel. Ed. Let's pick up right there the Soviet Union.
- 5:59The Soviet Union was the first, yeah, yeah, and then ironic they
- 6:05were the very first. They beat everybody else to the punch and established diplomatic
- 6:11relations with the new nation of Israel, who at the time was still at
- 6:15war. They were fighting. This is a brand new country, you keep
- 6:20in mind. I just find that fascinating and gets overlooked how an effective fighting
- 6:26force could be put together that quickly. And they at the time they were
- 6:30fighting Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, and they ended up with
- 6:34an armistice as sorts in nineteen forty nine that created ostensibly created a peace in
- 6:43the region. But then around in nineteen fifty to fifty one, there was
- 6:48a series for the next twenty years, for the next two decades the Palestine
- 6:55called the Palestine feeda Yuin insurgency that was basically what you saw the other day,
- 7:00but just not on that grand scale, but going on constantly of attacks
- 7:09and going into villages and killing people, rockets coming across and Israel. At
- 7:14that point, I think is when they started developing this blood costs deterrence.
- 7:19Where is now it's at I think at the maximum is extreme, where their
- 7:26response was to go in and kill as many of the insurgents or the hummas
- 7:31or whoever they were as possible to make the costs so high in hopes of
- 7:38deterring it from happening in the future. Well, this is from nineteen forty
- 7:42nine, fifty nineteen sixty up to nineteen sixty seven when they had a major
- 7:46war. It didn't really work very effectively. I mean it seemed like the
- 7:51more they killed, the more war went on. And no matter what occurred,
- 7:56they were going to be assaulted by rockets and small group gorilla type incursions
- 8:01into the Israeli territory. So it has not been peaceful there. Major wars
- 8:11have occurred. There was a Suez Crisis in nineteen fifty six when Egypt threatened
- 8:20to shut down that area and people went to war. Different Britain and the
- 8:24United States had refused. They were going to build a dam in Asthwa and
- 8:30decided not to, and then it ended up being in a war. Israel
- 8:37maintained their borders at the end of that and what you'd see if it incurags
- 8:41the listeners to look at the history of all of these wars and battles.
- 8:45They were always being attacked. They were a small, tiny country. I
- 8:48think Israel's about eighty five miles wide at its widest, about two hundred and
- 8:54eighty three hundred miles long. It's like having all this going on in the
- 8:58pan Handle. You know, it's not a big area, and they're surrounded
- 9:03by people that didn't want them to exist. So the wars were constant.
- 9:07The wars were coming out of the north, the wars were coming out of
- 9:11the east. The only safe boarder they had was the west, because that's
- 9:16all water. In looking at it, I think a real telling war was
- 9:22nineteen sixty seven and the Sixth Day War and the result of the Sixth Day
- 9:26War where they're fighting now and where they're having the problems soll that's where it
- 9:31comes from. Israel essentially won it and expanded their territory at the time and
- 9:37created what then became called the Purple Line. They took in the West Bank
- 9:43and East Jerusalem that they gained from Jordan. They took the goal On Heights
- 9:46from Syria, and they took the Sinai and Gaza from Egypt. And now
- 9:52all of these countries had controlled these areas. Now all of these countries are
- 9:56saying, we're refugees coming out of Gaza and probably in the next few weeks
- 10:01in the West Bank. We don't want them. We don't want them coming
- 10:05into our country. And that's where a big part of the stalemate occurs is
- 10:09the Palestinians, if you want to call them that, in the one section
- 10:16being ruled by Hamas and then the other section basically being ruled by Hezbollah.
- 10:22The countries that should be their allies, that are supplying them to a degree
- 10:28with arms and munitions, don't want the refugues from those countries. Doctor Ed
- 10:33Moore with us this morning on the Morning Show with Preston Scott. Fifty plus
- 10:37Muslim nations, one Jewish state. Get your mind around that for a second.
- 10:43Seventeen minutes past the hour back with doctor Ed Moore, we're talking about
- 10:50the history of israel Ed. We ended with the Six Day War pick up
- 10:56and take us to present. Well, you know, I think that point
- 11:00when they picked up all these new territories, it's kind of like getting the
- 11:03gift that you really don't want, you don't know what how to deal with.
- 11:07In nineteen sixty seven June sixty seven was the Sixth Day War, but
- 11:11then there was a War of Attrition from sixty seven to seventy were forces from
- 11:16the Soviet Union, Jordan, Syria, Egypt went to war again with Israel
- 11:24to try to recapture the territories. Primarily Egypt interested in taking back the Sinai
- 11:31and Gaza, but I'm not sure they really wanted Gaza, and that led
- 11:35to the kip Or War of nineteen seventy three only three years later, where
- 11:41they again tried to come in. It was mainly led by Egypt, and
- 11:45Syria came in surprise attack across the ceasefire lines in the Sinai and the Golden
- 11:52Heights, so they attacked them from the south in the north, which is
- 11:54what's starting to be set up here right now. And at the end of
- 12:00that there were no territorial changes. Egypt had once again defeated a larger enemy.
- 12:07They don't lose. They have a resilience and a will that is probably
- 12:13unseen in the history. Then from that point on, for about a decade
- 12:18and a half, there was all kinds of problems in Lebanon and they continued
- 12:26to battle in Lebanon. Incursions coming across the border. There were civil war
- 12:31in Lebanon and what had been described as the Garden of the Middle East largely
- 12:35got destroyed. Lebanon is no longer what it was. And again it was
- 12:43Hezbollah on one side and moss on the other that continued to attack Israel all
- 12:50the way up until around two thousand or so. During that entire timeframe,
- 12:56there were two periods that they called the First Intifada and the second into Father
- 13:03which was basically Palestinian uprising, girl of warfare, of people coming across the
- 13:07border, things that you don't typically see in civilized warfare. Alcohol it with
- 13:15big quotes, the capturing of civilians, the execution of civilians, right,
- 13:22you know, those kinds of things were going on all the time in Israel
- 13:24was having to deal with it. There's no lack of irony with them complaining
- 13:30saying that Israel killed or destroyed a hospital or killed people, which has now
- 13:35proven to be untrue, when that's what they just did. They went across
- 13:41the border, and they didn't attack military targets, they didn't attack power stations,
- 13:45they didn't attack ports or anything along those lines, or production of munitions.
- 13:50They attacked civilians. They went into basically a small towns be here in
- 13:58the rural part of Florida. If you just went in and you're intent with
- 14:01just kill everybody in Madison, you know why not. And that's what occurred
- 14:07here. So for them to claim horrors something is irony is probably not strong
- 14:15enough award. They continue to do that, which led them to the Gods
- 14:20of war and the first Guds of war. There's been two of them prior
- 14:26to this one, and it just continued. Israeli an army, the Israeli
- 14:33Defense Horse has been engaged in the Gaza Strip for a long time. They
- 14:37do incursions, they leave, they do go in trying to get the bad
- 14:39guys. And what the world now, seemingly some of the people in the
- 14:45world and some of our foolish congresspeople are asking them to get a ceasefire.
- 14:50Well, they've been doing ceasefires now since nineteen forty eight and it's like a
- 14:56broken record at this point. And as I mentioned, fifty islam nations are
- 15:00out there, none of them willing to take in any of these people.
- 15:05And Jewish state there's one and artist artistic gape to get through is the one
- 15:13into Egypt. So thanks for the time this morning, be well day,
- 15:18thank you, all right, doctor edmore with us, a little more history.
- 15:20It's twenty seven minutes past the hour.
