- Jose: Hi, before we start the show, are some spoilers. It is a movie episode. The movie is Sixth Sense, Moon, Gone Girl, Fight Club, Dark Knight Rises, Planet of the Apes, ⁓ Prisoners, are discussed So, yeah, spoiler warning. And with that said, enjoy the show. Welcome to Best Most. I am your host, Jose Jogo Gonzalez. This is the podcast where we ask the questions, what is the best or what is the most? For example, we ask questions like, what is the most accurate depiction in a movie showcasing a clown's life? Or what is the best song to rap battle to? the guests of each episode chooses a question ahead of time. I asked the online community that question via Instagram story, and then the guests and I discuss the community answers along with our own. You can follow us on best.most.pod ⁓ on Instagram to the online community. Today's guest is an actress and now TikToker who has also done some modeling. She's also a very kind human being and I would like to welcome to best most Roxana Garza. Hi Roxana. Roxanna Garza: Thank you so much for having me on. Jose: Thanks for coming back again. ⁓ So she was on last week's podcast ⁓ and she's back again. Our question this time is, what is the best twist in movie history? So Roxanna Garza, why did you choose this question? Roxanna Garza: mean, the twist is the best part of the movie. It's my favorite. okay, first of all, I love thinking I the answers to everything before I actually know the answers to everything. So it's kind of like fun to be like wrong. It's kind of fun to be like, know where this is going. And then I'm wrong. And I'm like, yay, ⁓ there's new things in the world. Yeah. ⁓ Jose: Yeah. Do you do that? I feel like I do that all the time. wife and I will be watching a movie and I'll kind of just say like, this is gonna happen. And I throw it out there. And then when it doesn't happen, I'm like, hmm, nice. ⁓ But when does happen, I'm like, I called that. But it's better to be surprised for sure. Roxanna Garza: It's so much fun when the author is smarter, you know what mean? Or when they have it hidden but there's clues. ⁓ it's the best. But I usually, well it's because I think I'm like that in real life too. There's real life twists which is always fun. I'll just think I know where something's going and then boom, it's sideways. I'm like, ⁓ okay, I didn't see that coming. Here we go. Yeah, so it's fun when, yeah, I like surprises and... Jose: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yo, nice life, nice. Roxanna Garza: Because I think there's something almost like, it's nice to know that there's things beyond your imagination. So I guess that's one of the things I like about twists is like, whoa, you know, it's exciting. Jose: Yeah, absolutely. mean, it's I'd say like in life, I like less surprises, unless they're good ones. ⁓ Good ones are nice, but ⁓ bad surprises, not so much. But I would say when writers of you in movies, ⁓ I think it's really cool because I'm sure a lot of times go through that process of like, ⁓ Roxanna Garza: yeah. Yeah. Jose: What are people expecting? And should I go that route? And is it engaging if I do this or do that? So a lot of times I'm sure they're like, they've go through all of these solutions and outcomes and they're like, okay, this is the better way to go to keep people more interested. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ yeah, love it. Love it. Jose: let's go into ⁓ the answers. so ⁓ the community answers for is the best twist in movie history? Let's see, so Mr. Sam Slick, he chose ⁓ the bleak ending to original Planet of the Apes is so surprising. Definitely catches you off guard and brings the sci-fi back closer to possible reality. Roxanna Garza: Mmm. ⁓ that was good. That was a good twist. Have you seen that movie? Jose: Yes, and ⁓ I know the ending, I guess, because it's pretty well-known ⁓ But I don't think I've seen the whole movie, though. Have you seen all of it? Roxanna Garza: Mm-hmm. You know, I saw it a long time ago, but I remember they're trying to get off this like planet. ⁓ Turns that it was their home planet. That's sad. I like, no, there's no home. Jose: Didn't he say like, he's like, gosh damn you dirty apes. I think it's something like that, right? Roxanna Garza: or something? I don't remember. You know, honestly, that's so funny. I can't remember, but I remember like, ⁓ I think it was the Statue of Liberty like washed up on the beach and they're like, no. Jose: Yeah. He's like, gosh, damn you dirty ass fucking apes. But yeah, it was like Charlton Heston. I remember that. Let's see. So John Estrada, chose Memento deserves a mention since you think you know what's going on with the reverse timeline. Have you seen Memento? Roxanna Garza: Ha ⁓ ⁓ so good. Mmm. Mmm. ⁓ yeah. ⁓ yeah. Jose: Yeah, that's a classic Christopher Nolan film. I think it's one of his first films, right? I think Pi and that one were like his first films. Roxanna Garza: You know, this is going to be a little controversial. God bless Christopher Nolan. God bless the whole cast. But it made me mad. I did not like the ending. I didn't like it one bit. It was really... Because I don't know, it made... It depressed me. It didn't... I don't know what it was, but I think like when I saw that movie in the end, instead of like feeling excited or thrown off, I felt like really heartbroken and sad. Jose: Heh. Hmm. Roxanna Garza: You know, so I didn't like that one bit. Sorry guys. Jose: Yeah, no, that's good though, isn't it? Because if ⁓ the ending affected you, then that means that they probably did a good job where it felt realistic or felt real to you, you know, or like it. Roxanna Garza: Yeah. Jose: did its job in a way. Because it's not a happy ending. It's a pretty bleak ending. Roxanna Garza: No. No, it really upset me actually. Like I never wanted to watch it again. Like there's some movies I'll be like, yeah, let's watch it again. And this one I was like, no, this is like, it made me feel sad and I hate feelings. If I can avoid sad feelings, I feel like I already feel sad so easily. I hate, so I actually hate all sad movies. I don't like them one bit. Jose: The movie is definitely a journey for sure ⁓ So John Estrada also chose he said of course Sixth Sense ⁓ But he said the final black and white photo of the shining of Jack at the New Year's ball is a great subtle twist to as well Roxanna Garza: Yeah, I don't ⁓ yeah. Yeah, I couldn't really figure out why he was there like You know like in the picture at the end of the shiny Yeah Jose: Yeah. I don't I kind of didn't either. I kind of like I mean. I think you can make assumptions. Like you could say, like maybe. Maybe it could be like, you know, the house kind of or the hotel kind of consumed him. And now he's a part of like the like the ghosts, I guess you could say. Roxanna Garza: Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah, mean, they left it open to interpretation. That movie was just so wonderful with all of the twists and turns, but I would have preferred a three-page essay explaining why he was in there so I could figure it out. Yeah, that's true. That's funny. Jose: I'm sure there is some. I'm sure there's... You could probably find that online too. Someone said, let's see, David Antonio Garcia, who is also a guest on the show, said, Moon, the way the twist comes out of nowhere is nuts. Sam Rockwell has great range. Roxanna Garza: Hmm ⁓ he is an incredible actor. He's another one that's just, whoa. His screen presence just takes over the whole everything. Yeah, he's amazing. Jose: Yeah. Yeah, I'd say he's probably one of my favorite actors for sure. ⁓ Roxanna Garza: But is Moon the one where he's making all those replicas of himself, or am I thinking of like a... Jose: Well, that is that's kind of the twist. The twist is ⁓ I believe it's been a while since I'd seen this, that his character is not meant to like survive after a certain amount of time. he's meant to kind of get sick ⁓ and kind of die. And then ⁓ like clone is supposed to wake up ⁓ and on the mission. But I guess like he doesn't the care his his doesn't die. Roxanna Garza: Ugh. Jose: So he's alive and getting sick and kind of dying while the other version of him is kind of around. He's like, what the fuck? Who are you kind of thing. So yeah, because I don't think you know he's ⁓ a yeah, you don't know he's ⁓ like a clone until like I'd say midway through the movie, I believe, or like there's something like that. But yeah, good movie. And that. Roxanna Garza: Ugh. so upsetting to me, yeah. Oh, so good. mean, yeah, but that's another sad one. Those ones are horrible. I want to twist with like a, I don't know, like those ones, they, yeah, because those ones are like depressing. Like I can't, like my soul weeps when I hear those type, when I like see those type of movies. I can't take it, you know? It weeps. I can't handle it. Jose: Yeah. Happy Twist? Heh. Weeps. I really like, I really like Bummer movies to be honest. don't, although ⁓ I ⁓ my was, ⁓ what that movie called? I talked about it in a previous podcast as well, was ⁓ Requiem for a Dream. That one was like, fuck this, I can't do this. But ⁓ still very good, I just couldn't, I can't watch it again. ⁓ So let's see, Jason Chavez, he also chose Moon. He said Sam Rockwell's characters. ⁓ Roxanna Garza: Mmmmm Jose: character origins, space isolation, exponentially furthered by the fact that he is not himself. And he said, fun fact, directed by David Bowie's son. Roxanna Garza: Mmm. I didn't know it. That is funny. Jose: Yeah, that's like Duncan something I've read his name. ⁓ Let's see. then Brian Fox Dryley, chose the movie Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. He said, ⁓ a rare time I did not see the twist coming. And then it was. it was a fun movie. I wouldn't say it was like the best movie in the world, but it was a really fun movie to watch for sure. Roxanna Garza: Mmm, that was good. That was a really fun movie. The whole ride was good. Yeah, was like, it was like, it was just good fun entertainment. I like stuff like that. You can like relax and enjoy it. It's like scary, funny, pretty to look at. All of the actors were gorgeous. The was gorgeous or wherever, you know, the location was really pretty. Jose: Yeah. Yeah, and then he said, Sixth Sense is the only right answer, but I'm sure everyone said that. Shrug, yeah. Roxanna Garza: The Sixth Sense. Well, okay, so that's funny because Sixth Sense should have been a bummer movie, but I think they added enough scare and enough intrigue and the acting was just so... It didn't bum me out. Sixth Sense did not bum me out when I found out he was dead. I didn't get a bad feeling after that movie. Jose: Yeah, like, ⁓ let's see, so Eddie Carmona, also chose Sixth He said, the movie that comes to mind is Sixth Sense. I remember being at the edge of my seat at the theater and saying to myself, what? He's been dead the whole time? So yeah, Sixth Sense to me, I have another answer too as well from Steven Joseph Craig. said, even though there's cooler ones I gotta admit, I gotta go with Sixth Sense. Say what you will about ⁓ Night. Roxanna Garza: Mm. Jose: That was probably the most effective and talked about twists in my lifetime. And what's cool about that movie and about these huge twists, because you could say like, ⁓ once a twist is like kinda out there, the movie's not fun anymore. But I think ⁓ what's really fun is like when you rewatch movie, finding all those clues Roxanna Garza: Mm-hmm. It was great, yeah. Mm-hmm. Jose: I think he's talking to his wife ⁓ ⁓ you think he's there with her and you think ignoring him because she's mad at him And maybe the relationship deteriorated or something like that. But when you it, you're like, no, he's dead. She can't, she can't hear him. Roxanna Garza: Mm-hmm. Jose: And then think at some point she's like talking to him in the sleep But it's like that reveal, that reveal when you watch it, you're like, holy shit. ⁓ yeah, if we rewatch it it's cool to see those clues. ⁓ I personally, I will watch reactions to different movies, right? On YouTube. I watched the Sixth Sense reactions like multiple times ⁓ to that kind of reveal that he's dead. Roxanna Garza: Mm-hmm. Uh-huh. Jose: And people are just like mind blown, And it's so cool to watch people like kind of see that for the first time. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ my god, that was a really good- ugh, that was an epic twist. I get ⁓ Night Shyamalan did that one? ⁓ he's- he's- he's a lot of fun. I like all his movies. Jose: Yeah. Yeah. He's, I like his movies too. A lot of people kind of give him shit about his movies or talk a lot of shit about his movies, but I think they're fun. so my cousin Paul Paconella on Instagram says, Luke, I am your father. And Rosa also agrees. My wife, says, Darth Vader being Luke Skywalker's father. I was like, what? You're his father? I didn't see that coming. Roxanna Garza: Yeah ⁓ man. Jose: And then fun fact, fun fact from my coworker Sarah, said pretty much, she actually showed this, that there's a Mandela effect regarding that whole Luke, I'm your father. ⁓ He doesn't actually say Luke, I'm your father. He says, no, I'm your father. Roxanna Garza: Uh-huh. Jose: Yeah. Roxanna Garza: That's brutal. Jose: I always thought he said, Luke, I'm your father, but I had to look it up because I was like, that's bullshit. And it's true. He says, no, I'm your father. Roxanna Garza: I haven't heard about that, I have a theory about Mandela effect. Jose: Okay, what's your theory? Roxanna Garza: I think that we remember stuff wrong because people spoof it and they change it when they spoof it and we subconsciously remember the spoof. Like, you know, like the Monopoly man or how everyone thinks he has a monocle? Well, I think it was like in that Jim Carrey movie when that guy had a monocle and he called them the Monopoly man. And I think subconsciously whenever people do spoofs, they remember the spoofs as the original. So I bet you a lot of people were making fun of that and saying, Luke, I'm your father, even though the movie didn't and we all remember the spoofs. That's my theory. I can't prove it, but that's what I think. Jose: That's a good theory because yeah, like if it was, who is it like, gosh, I'm sure there was something where someone said, Luke, I'm your father. And then that became, like you said, popular and people went with it as like, ⁓ yeah, that's obviously what he said, right? And yeah, I think you're right. I think that's a good theory actually. Roxanna Garza: It's job. But I don't know if I should tell people that theory because I feel like it kills the fun of the Mandela effect and I don't want to be like that person there like it's not real. You know what I mean? Like I kind of want- Jose: Yeah. Mandela Magic. Roxanna Garza: It's fun to have a little bit of fantasy, a little bit of mystery, but if you want to know the real deal that's what I think. But I do like the fun of it. I do like thinking we're switching timelines. It's a fun little thing to dip into. Jose: You Yeah. Yeah, I think so. think those things kind of get pretty popular too. I like watching those videos where someone's like, ⁓ yeah, the like the Goodyear guy, he has this, he has this kind of face or something like that. You know, like just different things where you're like, ⁓ it sounds reasonable enough. But then you're like, ⁓ it wasn't that. Holy shit. Roxanna Garza: Yeah. ⁓ huh. Well and also like I mean there's a lot of funny things like for instance you know how like now I could be wrong about this one this one I have not checked out but like you know the fruit of the loom thing with the cornucopia I think they had a commercial with the cornucopia not necessarily put it on their thing and everyone remembers the commercial it could be wrong but there could have been a commercial with it yeah like Jose: ⁓ yeah, yeah, ⁓ like it was a one-off and then that became the thing. Roxanna Garza: It was like everybody remembers the commercial of all the cornucopia filled with fruit. But then they just kind of associated it with the brand. So I think it's like advertising or comedy or it's like people will associate something and then their brains are just like, ⁓ yeah, like it connects them. But I'm not gonna lie, I actually liked the whole fantasy ideas of like all the mysteries and get your creative juices flowing type stuff. I hate to be like such a buzzkill. Jose: Mmm. No, not at all. I like that you actually thought about this. Like you have a theory about this too. I think. So I think there's a certain point of it where you're like, hmm, is this real? You know, just like anybody else. And I think that's cool that you you're like, no, this is what I think. ⁓ Roxanna Garza: ⁓ yeah. Mm-hmm. ⁓ well, I have a ton of theories. My friends all know me for having theories. Because I think that if something is interesting, it's better to get more information to better understand it and get information from disagreeable sources. Like, know, hear about the people that don't agree and the people that do. And then you could kind of have fun looking at the argument between it and come to conclusions. it's just fun, especially when it's supernatural stuff. I love to hear. Jose: Yeah. for sure. Roxanna Garza: all the arguments of like, why do they even care in the first place? You know, it's fun. Jose: Yeah, I can see that. Yeah, like how people say like, it's obviously this, it can't be that, but then you're like, well, it could be a shadow from this or it could be lighting that creates this image. And especially in videos where it's like supposedly scary things. I'm like, uh. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ yeah. ⁓ yeah. Jose: Like it could obviously be like a little kid just in the corner like waiting and you're like, damn, it's a ghost or you know, whatever. Roxanna Garza: Mm-hmm. Well, you know what? Yeah, it's true because like you don't know like we don't like the idea that we know everything is just absolutely ridiculous. You know, all of us the most we're be on this planet is like, you know, a hundred and something years maximum. So to think that in 120 years from one little consciousness, we're just gonna be able to know analyze and be right about everything is just that's that's funny. But it's fun to like get all the info. Jose: Yeah. Well, also the fact that we don't like the, know, all of these years that humans have been alive to as well. I feel like we're going kind of in this cool tangent, but I really like it. all of these years that humans have been alive and on this planet and gathered information and everything like that, like we still don't know everything. Like it's crazy. Like, cause it's not like we just get information from our own experience while we're here. get experience. Roxanna Garza: Uh-huh. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jose: information from past experiences decades and decades ago and continue that information passing, right? like, we don't know shit about the bottom of the sea. We don't know a lot about the creatures or animals at bottom of the ocean. And we have no proof, real legit proof that we all believe in of aliens or whatever else. All it is is like speculation. Roxanna Garza: Mm-hmm. ⁓ yeah. Mm-hmm. Jose: for the most part, unless you actually have seen some. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ yeah, no. Okay, all right, all right. If you want to hear one time, You're allowed to think I'm crazy. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. But I can tell you. Okay, okay, okay. My sister thought I was crazy and I was so offended. I was like, first of all, like, but okay, so. All right, this was like maybe seven years ago, okay? Jose: Sure Okay, I'll let you know after. Let's see. What's Mm-hmm. Roxanna Garza: This is like a true story, okay, but I don't know what it was. Okay, I don't know what it was. I do not claim to know what this was. I can only say what I saw and It could have been a dream ⁓ ⁓ I wake up at 430 in the morning to go to the bathroom. Okay? So I get up and I open the door and like across the hall from me, I see this, I guess the only way I can describe it is imagine an extremely skinny person, too skinny, too skinny to be a person with really long fingers, like fingers twice as long as normal fingers. Okay? Jose: Okay. Mm-hmm. I don't know, I've seen pretty skinny. I've seen skinny and I've seen long fingers. I'm kidding, go ahead, sorry. Roxanna Garza: This is not, no, no, no, it's true. It's true, and tall too, and tall too. ⁓ And it was 4.30 in the morning and I look over it and it was really strange because, this is just what happened. So I just bought this giant thing of toilet paper, okay? Like it was just, and it was sitting on the kitchen table. So I see this thing and it just looked too thin to be human and its hair was like pulled up in a ponytail and it might've been like dreadlocks, but like, like. Jose: Mm-hmm. Roxanna Garza: I don't know, it just looked weird and it was kind of gray. It was kind of like a gray thing. Like a gray person with really long fingers and like kind of hair pulled out. it didn't really quite look human. It just didn't. It was too skinny. It was too skinny and weird and elongated. ⁓ But human has like two legs, two arms, a face. You know, it didn't have like an arm sticking out of its belly or something. It was like human shaped. ⁓ And so it's taking its long fingers. Jose: Mm-hmm. Roxanna Garza: and it's putting its fingers around the toilet paper like if it was like reading it, the toilet paper with its fingers. I don't know any other way to describe it, right? So I'm standing there and I'm like, whoa, I must still be like dreaming, you know? So I close my eyes and I open my eyes and it's still there. Jose: Mm-hmm. That's crazy. Hmm. Roxanna Garza: So I ran to the bathroom and then I waited and I just stayed in there like, I dreaming? Is that real? I don't know. And then I never saw it again. That was it. Jose: Hmm. Roxanna Garza: It was, and I was like trying to think of things that it could have been. I was like, was it an extremely thin robber? Jose: He's like, I need some toilet paper. Roxanna Garza: No, well, I mean, because what does that even think? So then I was like, OK, am I crazy? Like, is this a, was it a hallucination? Then I found out you can actually still be in a dream state right after you wake up and hallucinate stuff from your dreams. So it could have been a hallucination. But then. Like, kind of for fun. Like, I'm not gonna lie, like, this was a little- people get mad at me when I like going into this stuff, but it was a little bit for fun. I started looking up, like, legends and different legends that looked like it, like aliens and skinwalkers and all that stuff. And I was like, you know, it's not like it leaves a calling card when you see something like that. It's not like, ⁓ I was a hallucination from your dream, or I was an alien, or I was a skinwalker. Look, the truth is, I'll never know. ⁓ Jose: Yeah. Do you like with what sleep paralysis is? Roxanna Garza: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jose: So it wasn't like that kind of thing. Cause I've had sleep paralysis where I've seen like a being, like a tall, like being like shadow figure. And they're kind of exploring the room and I'm like, and I'm kind of like laying there in bed watching this frozen. And they're kind of like slowly kind of making their way. Like at this point they can't see that I'm there. And little by little they're getting closer and closer. Roxanna Garza: Really? Huh? Jose: and I'm just like frozen in bed. I can't move at all. And I'm just like, ⁓ no. And little by little coming closer and closer. And then finally they look over and they see that I'm, they're like, is that someone? And they look over there and they start kind of like walking towards me. And then I just wake up. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ ⁓ thank God. What do they look like? Jose: They're exactly like a shadow figure. can't really, in the dream, it's like you can't see any details, like many details. You kinda just, they almost seem like a figure person, like a normal person almost, but they're shadow. And I remember I did see red eyes as well. Like just like, just red little dots as eyes. But it's. Roxanna Garza: Mmm. Jose: It's a pretty like, pretty common. People have had like, you could look online and find sleep paralysis and you can see like, I think they make jokes about it now. Like your sleep paralysis person, they're like, ⁓ yeah, sleep paralysis person is that guy who sings ⁓ in like Counting Crows or something like that. ⁓ And then he'll have like, it'll be a shadowy figure singing dumb song from the Counting Crows. But yeah. Roxanna Garza: Yeah, yeah. ⁓ I wish. I wish it wasn't scary. Jose: But it's fairly common. Like sleep paralysis itself is when you're, I think you're either your brain or your body, one or the other is awake and the other one isn't. So you're kind of like your body can't move, but you're kind of half asleep, half awake. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ Well this one I was fully standing up and opened the door, closed my eyes Jose: ⁓ yeah, nevermind. It's totally not that. Sorry. Sorry, audience. Roxanna Garza: Yeah, it was no I was but no it might be maybe my brain just wasn't awake because I've heard that because it was right after I woke up and they say right after you wake up you could still see your dreams sometimes Jose: Yeah, maybe you're like half asleep still. Roxanna Garza: Yeah, but that was like, ⁓ it was memorable, I'll tell you that. It was an experience. Jose: So I don't think you're crazy. I think you just experienced something and I don't know if it's supernatural or not. It could have just been, like you said, like you were half asleep or something like that. But I mean, I don't think you didn't experience the situation. I think you either in a dream state or whatever probably experienced it, so yeah. Roxanna Garza: No. Yeah. Yeah, I mean that's probably true. Sometimes it's fun to like make it a little more dramatic and be like maybe it was an alien but I mean the truth is it probably was just a dream. But I like to add excitement when I tell it. For the plot. Imagine if it was an alien. Jose: Who knows, who knows? Who knows? And it could be an alien, who knows, it could be that. I know like the aliens are gonna, they're gonna hear this podcast and be like, ha ha ha, gotcha bitch, you know like. Roxanna Garza: They're gonna be like, she saws. It was so scary. Oh my God. Yeah, well, I don't want it to come back, actually. That's way too scary. So let's hope the aliens don't hear this. Whatever the heck that was. But it was just so weird. yeah. Jose: Yeah, I know. Well, it's funny because right now, your audio is kind of goes off it on and off. I heard the whole story, but there's a little audio parts that go like, a little weird. So maybe it is aliens. They're just like, we're gonna stop her from saying this story. Roxanna Garza: Oh no. Uh huh. ⁓ no! ⁓ my god. But yeah, I love, I love all of that. You know what I started researching this last week? This is, ⁓ no, you know, I shouldn't even talk about it. I shouldn't even talk about it. Let's just say I'm very, I'm very Catholic and I do believe in God and I do believe in the truth and I do believe in honesty and all of that stuff. But I do love all of the supernatural stories. I love supernatural stories. It's fun. Jose: Hmm. ⁓ yeah. Yeah, I think they're pretty fun. So last one on the list for me, ⁓ just to close this out for the community is Brian Hidalgo. He says, don't know about the best one, but one of my favorites is from Old Boy ⁓ of twists from like Old Boy. Have you seen that movie? Roxanna Garza: ⁓ god, I wish I didn't. I wish I didn't. Let's never talk of that movie again. That's so disgusting. I don't know. I think it was the remake. I don't remember. I don't remember. ⁓ Jose: ⁓ yeah, you've seen that movie. Yeah. Did you watch the original one or the remake? with Elizabeth Olsen and Josh Brolin. Roxanna Garza: Yeah, that's the one. think that's the one I saw. I can't remember. think I was just like, I think I was like, oh, this is this is too gross. This is just disgusting. Like the twist really made me sick. That was another one. I was like, I don't like twist. I understand it's a it's a good twist, but I don't like those twists. I don't want stuff that's going to leave me feeling like disgusted or hopeless. You know, like. Jose: Okay. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, that movie. Like, like, it's funny, because this when we when you brought up this ⁓ this question, a part of me was like, should we do this question? And I'm glad we are. But I was like, should we do this? Because I know we're going to ruin a lot of twists for people. But ⁓ but at the same time, like, it's a fun thing to talk about. So the the twist for old boy, I'm not going to give away. But I will say that Roxanna Garza: Mm-hmm. Mmm! Jose: That twist is a huge gut punch and it's one of those twists where you're like, you cut your heart kind of sinks a little bit and you're like, no, no. So, yeah. I would. I would recommend watching it, though. I'd recommend watching that movie. It's a good movie. Like, I like the movie. I don't know if I watched both versions knowing the twist. I just wanted to see how they were going to do. Roxanna Garza: Boo! Eugh! Jose: that whole thing and the other one. It did not let me down. ⁓ But yeah, so there's a lot of good answers from the community. ⁓ So now it's your turn, ⁓ Roxanna Garza. ⁓ What is the best twist in movie history? Roxanna Garza: Okay, hold on. Un minuto. Let me go to my list. Okay, I actually, ⁓ god, I picked a couple and it's really hard to pick from these ones. Okay, I actually did four and I kind of want you to pick whichever one you think is the best out of these four because they're really good. The first one, and three of them are from the 90s. I just love 90s movies. They were just the freaking epic. Okay. Jose: Sure. Okay. I like 90s everything, to be honest. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ so fun. So you know the usual suspects? Kaiser Sose? Yeah, yeah, the twist where you find out who Kaiser Sose is blew my mind. Jose: Well, I don't remember that much of the usual suspects. I just remember it was a really good film and I had seen it later when it, after it came out a while, after a while. And I remember liking it quite a bit. And I remember, was it like Russell Crowe in it too as well? Roxanna Garza: Ugh. Yeah, Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey killed it. These are just, I don't want to give away the twist, but I, that was a twist. See, there's certain twists that you don't, like I didn't feel hopeless and sad or grossed out at the end. So that's my kind of twist, baby. It was exciting. Yeah. Jose: Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I I just remember Russell Crowe a lot Russell Crowe to me in that movie he was like a badass in that movie because he was like he had like this like he was a hothead and ⁓ I also liked who's that dude though he was from a Mento as well guy Pierce guy Pierce in that movie was really good Roxanna Garza: Mm-hmm. ⁓ yeah. Mm-hmm. ⁓ yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, that movie was just so fun. And then, okay, the next one, these are kind of like the guys, like most guys' favorite movie, I would say. I think most men, their favorite movie is The Matrix. I'm just going to say from my experience, pretty much every guy I talk to, his favorite movie is The Matrix. But it's not The Matrix. It's the second most favorite movie of men, which is Fight Club. Finding out who Tyler Durden is. Jose: Yeah. Okay. ⁓ That's a good one. Roxanna Garza: That was amazing. That was so much fun. Jose: Mm-hmm. Roxanna Garza: And then the third pick was, you ever seen Primal Fear with Edward Norton and Richard Gere? Okay, the end shook me. I mean, the just, Edward Norton's ability to like flip characters, I was like, whoa, I was just so amazed, yes. And then I wanted to throw a woman in there, so I was like, okay, gone girl. Jose: Yes. Yep. ⁓ yeah. Roxanna Garza: the main character from Gone Girl, the way she set the whole thing up. I mean, I'm a sucker for someone who can plan something out and execute. And she planned it all out, executed it, and I was just like, whoa. And she looked good the whole time doing it. I was like, wow. Jose: Yes. Yeah. Poor, poor, Neil Patrick Harris. Holy shit. ⁓ Roxanna Garza: ⁓ my god. ⁓ my god. ⁓ But yeah, she was an, she was an, she almost made it onto my top list of villains, but I was like, no, we'll save her for the twists. Cause she, was epic. ⁓ huh. Jose: Yeah. What's funny, well even Ben Affleck is a villain in that movie. I think Ben Affleck, he leans so much, obviously I don't know Ben Affleck, but he seems pretty cool. ⁓ But in that movie, he leans so much into his assholeness. ⁓ Into almost his stature, know? He leans into his stature, his look, how he looks and how he might come off. And not to say that he's his character, but. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ yeah. Mm-hmm. Ha! Mm-hmm. Jose: In that movie, you're just like, fuck, this guy is a piece of shit. Like he's so horrible, you know, and and you're just kind of like great casting, like great casting. But like, ⁓ who is the main actress in ⁓ Roxanna Garza: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Ugh. ⁓ You know what? just got her name. me one second. Let me go here because she was going to go on my list. ⁓ Rosamund Pike. Jose: Yes. ⁓ man, she... I had never seen her in anything before that movie and she fucking killed it. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ my God, you know what? Yeah, she really did. She really had a lot of depth to that character because she still came off like she had, she really played the role of super feminine and pretty and like she had like the whole aura, charm, beauty, and then just the thing she was doing felt so believable even with that charming facade. And I was like, whoa, like I was buying all of it. I was into the movie. I was transported into her world. I loved it. Jose: Yeah. Yeah, it's kind of like don't mess with someone like an ambitious woman, like for sure. You know what I mean? Like, don't do an ambitious woman wrong because you'll get yours, Ben Affleck's character. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ Yeah, that he really made me upset. really, yeah, I was really upset about his character. But, you know, I don't think I would have done what she did, but... A little extreme. Jose: Yeah, I mean... ⁓ my gosh. Neil Patrick Harris' character was kind of a creep though. I wouldn't say he deserved what he got. I'm not gonna give him much away, but I would say he was a pretty big creep. And he seemed dangerous in some aspects, which kudos to Neil Patrick Harris, because I don't see that in him as a person, but in that character you're like, ooh. Roxanna Garza: Yeah, yeah. Ooh. Jose: ⁓ no. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ I love that. mean honestly, like you know, you know I'm a sucker for good acting and when I like, I don't know, this is so weird but one of the things I love is like when I see like their bad evil growth side come out just a little but they still keep the charm. There's just something so intriguing about that, you know? Jose: Yeah. Yep. Yeah. Good choices. Those are all the choices? Roxanna Garza: Those are all my choices. ⁓ Jose: Oh man, I would say I didn't even think about Gone Girl, but that movie, even just talking about it right now, oof, I gotta re-watch that movie. Usual Suspects is really good. A lot of good performances, but I didn't remember the twist too much, not to say that it wasn't a good one, but I really like Gone Girl a lot. And kinda saying that, going into my my choices it's gonna ⁓ change mine a but ⁓ let's see my honorable mention is Fight Club Roxanna Garza: Mmm, yeah, that was a good one. Jose: Came out in 1999. cast is Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Helena Bonham Carter, Meatloaf, Jared Leto, and Zach Grenier. And then directed by David Fincher, written by Chuck Poliniak and Jim Uhis. I'll give you the IMDB summary. office worker, and a devil may care soap maker form an underground fight club that evolves into much more. ⁓ Also, I would say what's amazing about this film is the needle drop at the end. The pixies Where is my mind. Good Lord. Such a Amazing of the ending. So. Roxanna Garza: Mmm, mhm, mhm. Jose: Yeah, I mean, to me, the reason I chose this as an honorable mention for this, the twist ⁓ is, yeah, same kind of thing. you don't see it coming. Like. And then when you kind of go back and you're like, ⁓ OK, I feel you still have some questions, though. That's the only thing about that movie. Like, don't you think like some points, some points you're like, wait, so who are they seeing or who are they talking to? what ⁓ did the, I guess crew kind of hear? Roxanna Garza: I mean, I feel like that's advanced. I honestly, I honestly, didn't even, I mean, those are good questions. Those are good questions. I think my mind was too blown at the end to answer, even ask those questions. I was more like, what did I just see? Jose: Right? Yeah, well yeah, cuz it's like they're just watching this guy talking to himself he's like hey What's going on with this whole thing? you only need to know what I'm gonna tell you okay I guess that's like this guy just going back and forth and they're just like they're like yeah He's a good leader this guy's I would be like this guy's fucking ⁓ crazy, dude, Yeah, I don't know like Roxanna Garza: I know. Jose: I do like the movie a lot and I love the ending. the style of the movie. Great twist. But it's my honorable mention for that reason There's a lot of other questions that seem ⁓ Roxanna Garza: Yeah, I could see that. I could see that. Yeah. Jose: but I love that movie. But my actual pick, and I don't know if a lot of people have seen this, but it's called The Prestige. Roxanna Garza: Ohhhh ⁓ Jose: ⁓ Came out in 2006. Casts Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hill, David Bowie, bringing up David Bowie again, ⁓ Andy Serkis, and more. Directed by Christopher Nolan, writers Jonathan Nolan, Christopher Nolan, and Christopher Priest. The IMD summary is the procedures that Christopher Nolan directed psychological thriller about two rival magicians in late 19th century London, Robert Roxanna Garza: Mmm. Jose: Angier who is played by Hugh Jackman and Alfred Borden played by Christian Bale whose bitter feud over creating the ultimate teleportation illusion leads to obsession, deception, and tragedy. Based on Christopher Nolan's novel, the film uses a ⁓ narrative to explore themes of sacrifice and rivalry. Roxanna Garza: Yes. Oh, oh god, people, I know people absolutely love that movie. They love it. But that one is a downer for me. I was like, I know you like those downer movies. I'm like, oh, I think I was like so upset when I saw what happened at the end. I was like, oh, I can't handle this. Jose: Yeah, it's kind of those movies that you're just like, ⁓ no, like same kind of thing. You're like, ⁓ man, that's sad. I wouldn't say it's as bad as Old Boy, because Old Boy is like devastating. again, I love Old Boy is a good movie. I would say it's a move, Proceed is one of those endings where you just feel for these guys and you're kind of like, why? Roxanna Garza: Yeah. ⁓ god. ⁓ Jose: Like, why are you guys doing this? Roxanna Garza: Oh god. I can't, yeah. I mean, I feel like there's a market for it, but it's just those things like, you know, it reminds me of like that moon movie that we were talking about before. Just all that death and I don't know. That one hurt me. Like some stuff I'm too sensitive for. I'm like, no, no, thank you. Jose: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, yeah. Roxanna Garza: But people love it though, like you'd be shocked when people talk about their favorite movies of all time. That's a big one. People like, you know, it's fun. It's a good twist. It's shocking. It's moving. Yeah. Jose: Mm-hmm. Okay, so there's a movie with ⁓ Paul Dano, Hugh Jackman, and Terrence Howard called Prisoners, Have you seen that movie? Roxanna Garza: No, no, what's it about? Jose: the movie's this guy, ⁓ Hugh Jackman, right? And he has a family. And I think he and his ⁓ friend who was by Terrence Howard are kind of like hanging at one of their houses. and their kids are playing outside. And there's this like big ass ⁓ camper that's kind of parked fairly close by. And pretty much, think one of his kids, one of Hugh Jackman's kids is kidnapped or ends up missing. And they think like Paul Dano's character who is like this kind of hermit character. Roxanna Garza: Ugh. Jose: And he kind of seems very creepy and like, this is obviously this guy ⁓ and Hugh Jackman's character ends up kidnapping Paul Dano's character ⁓ and he's like torturing him ⁓ and trying to get. Yeah, trying to get information out about where's kid ⁓ I won't give there any more away, but. Roxanna Garza: Yeah. UGH! Jose: That movie is so emotional and so unhinged and so fucking good. ⁓ But there's a scene where I think like Hugh Jackman has his hammer he has Paul Dano's character against the wall in the restroom. He's like, where's my daughter? ⁓ And he like like ⁓ has the hammer and smacks it like smacks the wall so hard. And I think that part of the movie was ⁓ improvised. you could tell, yeah, could tell ⁓ Terrence Howard and Paul Dano are like reacting from that. And it's so fucking amazing. Like Paul Dano looks like, like the color just goes out of his face. He's just like, fuck. Terrence Howard looks so like concerned, like, ⁓ my God. Roxanna Garza: ⁓ shit. Ugh. ⁓ my god. well I've done a couple of violent scenes before but I did one, I don't know what you're saying, like, it reminded me like we did like one domestic violence scene where I was like getting choked against the wall, it was for a movie The actor was super sweet though, like I mean, don't get me, I was not being hurt at all. Do you know what I mean? But it is kind of funny because anytime there's physical stuff you still kind of get surprised. You're like, whoa, shit, you know, especially noises. I remember like, cause I kind of would improv a lot. Jose: ⁓ shit. Roxanna Garza: So I remember I was next to a washing machine and we were in the middle of the scene and I decided to like be a little aggressive and I slammed the washing machine like lid really loud and it was like startling everyone and they threw me against the wall and was choking me. I was like, ah. I think I scared him with my reactions because I acted so scared, you know? ⁓ ⁓ I mean, must be something wrong with me because I had a lot fun with that scene. ⁓ Jose: No, I mean, but it seems it seems like a challenge, right? So I'm sure it being something different and a challenge, you're like, hell yeah, let's do this. Roxanna Garza: Well it was fun because like I was getting to like blame him for all of the things that were wrong with our son. So it was like one of those- and I was being so mean like well my character wasn't me you know what mean? But we had a son and it was kind of funny like I'll tell you a funny thing about acting too is like as a woman they expect you to really look like kind of like young no matter what age you are. Do you know what I mean? Like you're always kind of expected to be like really presentable. So I was playing someone who had like a 30 year old son and I don't know if you've seen me but I do not look like I can't Jose: I have seen you, yes. You don't look like you'd have a 30 year old son. Roxanna Garza: No! I mean, we were laughing like, you me and the other actor. You know what mean? Like, we were just freaking cracking up. Like, you know what I mean? Jose: You look like you're in your 30s, if that. So yeah, that's crazy. Roxanna Garza: But yeah, I was supposed to be playing like a trophy wife for like the this I don't remember I think it was a mayor I was like the mayor's like trophy wife and we were like having a violent relationship. It was fun. But it was fun, like I got to like pretend to shoot a gun and I like died in that movie. They had to like shoot me in the head. But I have like a problem like when I die, I kept making this dumb face. So that was really hard. Cause like sometimes like I think stuff's too funny. Like that's one of my problems. You know, like I'm having too much fun. Jose: No. Have you ever seen The Dark Knight Rises? Roxanna Garza: I think we, ⁓ which one's the Dark Knight Rises? ⁓ Jose: It's the one with Tom Hardy as Bane. Roxanna Garza: Yes, yes I have, yeah, yeah, yeah. Jose: So there's this death in that movie that people always kind of make fun of, It's the one by The one who's into Bruce Wayne, right? Roxanna Garza: Okay, okay. Jose: So she's into Bruce Wayne and then she dies, spoiler alert, sorry, she dies, the actress gets a lot of shit for it because the way she dies is she's laying down, right? And you see kind of her top half of her body. And then she goes and she's like, ⁓ and then her head just drops. But that's it, that's her death. She's like, Roxanna Garza: Yeah you You That is, that's like what I did and it was so bad. It was circulating. The video was circulating and everyone was laughing at it. I was like, no! And I was like, darn it. I thought because like in my innocent mind, I thought if it's bad, just do another take. And it was so bad, but they didn't. They just left it and I was like, oh shit. Jose: Yeah. Well, you look it up, look up that death. It can't be as bad as that for sure. But the fact that even Christopher Nolan was like, yeah, let's keep this take. Roxanna Garza: I was like, well, there you go. ⁓ ⁓ my god. I don't know why they keep it. I was like bro like really we could. I can't see myself you know what I mean. I'm counting on you guys to make it look good like I'm just showing up and acting but I don't know what it's gonna look like. Jose: Yeah. Roxanna Garza: it was so funny. If I find it I'll show it to you. It's like there's like a bullet hole in the middle of my head. and then I like fall to the side and stick my tongue out of like the side of my mouth. It's like really... ⁓ Actually, that's the second time I... Jose: You're like, what's that? Roxanna Garza: As the second time I died, like, too funny, another one was I did like a PSA of like, Don't Get High and Drive, and we had to die. And I was like, I was like, and I was like joking around, I was goofing around, I was like, ⁓ And then they were like, keep it, that's terrifying. I was like, are you sure? This is gonna be, I don't think it's gonna read as terrifying. And we did it, and then they like never wanted to show it, because instead of getting scared, like, everyone laughed. I was like, yeah, I was like embarrassed. Jose: you ⁓ no. haha ⁓ no. Roxanna Garza: was just taking direction, but it came off super comedic. Jose: ⁓ that's awesome. That'd cool if you had that. You could show it to your friends and be like, check this out. Roxanna Garza: EEEEF I mean, I thought it was good. was just really, it was just, came off more funny than a PSA. You know what I mean? Like he was like, the director was like, I think I talked to him, he's like, that didn't go the way I expected. Jose: ⁓ yeah. You Roxanna Garza: I was like, ⁓ no! I'll send it to you. Jose: There's this song that... yeah, hell yeah, send it to me. Roxanna Garza: I don't know man, it made me feel bad. But it was like, oh gosh, I don't know where it is. I was going to send it to you right now. But, but there you go. You know what I mean? Jose: Yeah, it's like a learning experience, you know? I think that's the best you get out of it.
