- 0:00Eric: This podcast was created by fans or fans and is not affiliated with or sponsored by Hallmark or the Hallmark channel.
- 0:09Eric: This is Eric, this is Sydney And this is Hallmark Mysteries And more.
- 0:22Sydney: Hello Sydney, hi Eric, happy Fourth of July Hi.
- 0:28Eric: Yes, so I was talking to Cindy Busby on Instagram this morning and I wished her a happy Fourth of July, which is just a Tuesday for her, considering she's a Canadian.
- 0:40Sydney: There you go.
- 0:41Eric: Yes, for us it's a little more festive.
- 0:43Eric: We had to record a little early in the day because my dog is about five o'clock starting here.
- 0:51Eric: Fireworks just start going off in the neighborhood and all those sort of things and then they just go crazy.
- 0:57Eric: So it will be a stressful evening for the pups.
- 1:02Sydney: You must tell me you they're setting them off like a couple days prior to, because we've had them since, like last weekend.
- 1:10Eric: We had on two days ago one of our neighbors like three houses down.
- 1:16Eric: They were just doing a nonstop and of course the dogs are kind of winging up, but then they went.
- 1:20Eric: I don't know what the heck, but they had some like massive explosives which are always actually vibrated.
- 1:27Sydney: Oh, like a MAD whatever.
- 1:30Eric: Yeah, i don't know what it was, but they were just like all sitting here and this was like boom and like things rattled and they had about three of those that went off.
- 1:37Eric: And this morning and when I was walking the dogs, i ran into the neighbor who's across the street from them.
- 1:44Eric: He was not a happy camper by any means, so the only thing I can say that was somewhat pleasant is they were doing them around I don't know 730 at night, so it wasn't like it was super late.
- 1:59Eric: You know, it's crazy What is?
- 2:03Eric: a few years ago we ended up finding a bullet in our backyard, because here in Arizona it's a thing that's kind of crazy where everyone just shoots their guns up in the air.
- 2:15Sydney: You're in the wild west.
- 2:17Eric: Yeah, and so I went out the next morning and I was getting up early to walk dogs and I looked over and I noticed our barbecue right out.
- 2:28Eric: The back door had this like dent in it and then on the ground was a little bullet shell, i guess, and so it's crazy.
- 2:38Eric: So called the place just to say, hey, just so you know this happened.
- 2:41Eric: And they said, yeah, it could be coming from, like you know, a pretty good distance away.
- 2:47Eric: When someone just shoots it up in the air and by the time it goes down.
- 2:51Sydney: Yeah.
- 2:53Eric: So little crazy out here in Arizona.
- 2:56Sydney: When they come back down, when the bullets come back down, it's like how does that work, like is it just as fast?
- 3:02Sydney: as if they're going up in the air.
- 3:05Eric: And what he but the police guy said it wasn't.
- 3:07Eric: It was like kind of just a gravity thing at that point And because it was just like a dent on the barbecue versus like piercing it or anything like that.
- 3:18Eric: So now, granted, it can still kill you, because we just had a few days ago a woman get killed by some sort of whatever errant Projectile.
- 3:30Sydney: Oh yeah.
- 3:31Eric: Yeah, it's.
- 3:32Eric: Arizona is kind of an interesting state in that that aspect.
- 3:37Eric: So Orange County probably not as much shooting up their guns up in the air.
- 3:44Sydney: Not so much the guns, but we do have the bad fireworks.
- 3:47Sydney: We have the ones where it's like a low boom and then the big boom, like where it shakes you.
- 3:53Sydney: and then I've got, you know, the two cats, and one of the cats is old and he's like done with it and he doesn't really care, and the other one is young and she hides behind the hamper in the bathroom.
- 4:06Eric: So what's crazy is the one I was talking about, those like M80s or whatever they were down the street, is our old dog.
- 4:11Eric: He's pretty deaf, so like with just like the little fireworks stuff, he wasn't really reacting and he's lived his whole life where he's afraid of the fireworks.
- 4:20Eric: But this year he really wasn't reacting too much.
- 4:24Eric: But when those big booms went off I think it's he was able to feel the vibration and then he was wigged out for like the next hour after those were going off.
- 4:34Sydney: So I don't blame him.
- 4:36Eric: And what's funny is my daughter had she was over that night and she had her dog, which is like I don't know he or she.
- 4:43Eric: She's about a 70 pound pit bull mix, so like a big whatever dog, and she was just like pretty much hiding, covering away from it.
- 4:53Eric: So not a very big tough dog.
- 4:55Eric: So no.
- 4:58Eric: But onto some fun stuff.
- 5:00Eric: Today is going to be a very fun episode because what we're going to be doing are comparing our favorite actors, our favorite up and comers, our favorite side characters from all the mysteries, and we'll see how much aligned we are and how different we are.
- 5:21Eric: I was pretty shocked at our rankings, how we were essentially exactly the same.
- 5:28Eric: I thought there'd be a little bit of a mix up.
- 5:30Eric: But top five, spot on in the bottom two, just flip flop.
- 5:35Eric: So let's see, i don't know, i don't know if we're going to be too similar.
- 5:42Sydney: I think, i think we'll be different, because I already know.
- 5:49Eric: I think there's only.
- 5:50Eric: I think there's only one of my list That's going to be like duh.
- 5:55Eric: I think the rest.
- 5:57Sydney: No, there's two, There's one on the slide.
- 6:02Eric: I think you may be a little surprised Yeah.
- 6:04Sydney: Okay.
- 6:06Eric: You know I'm like an onion, i'm on the outside.
- 6:10Eric: You have to peel me away to get to the inside really to find out what's really going on.
- 6:15Eric: You know you can do two, and so I had.
- 6:17Eric: It was very tough When, like when I, when I tossed out the idea to you, i'm like, oh yeah, no problem.
- 6:22Eric: And then when I was actually writing them down and trying to do it, as like, oh, but I do like this one, but I like this one, but how do I?
- 6:31Eric: you know, i'd rather do like a big bucket of them, because the why I have the two that we're going to talk about, i think I'd like to do two others that on a another day I could be like, nope, these are the ones.
- 6:47Eric: And so I don't know, there's yes, I will say, probably to nobody surprise, there is one on the list that just will be there.
- 6:58Sydney: Other than that.
- 6:58Eric: I think you may be a little bit surprised So but you know what kind of a dry throat.
- 7:04Eric: A holiday, you know I could go for a nice, nice cocktail, something light, something that's going to really be flavorful.
- 7:17Eric: Do you have anything in mind?
- 7:19Sydney: I do, eric.
- 7:20Sydney: So I've been working hard at this because of Fourth of July and I was thinking we should do the mysterious independence sangria.
- 7:30Sydney: And that is a nice combo.
- 7:34Sydney: You know, sangria is kind of like a kitchen sink drink.
- 7:39Sydney: So it's got fresh watermelon juice, dry white wine, chilled rose champagne for those ever-vescent bubbles, some frozen assortment of diced watermelon, blueberries and limes, a little bit of vodka, a little bit of triple sec, a little bit of simple syrup.
- 7:58Sydney: Throw some sprigs of mint in there.
- 8:01Sydney: But the best part about this drink is like you literally throw all those ingredients into like your drink dispenser.
- 8:07Sydney: I like the one that has the spigot, but people can do a gigantic pitcher if you want.
- 8:11Sydney: But sometimes, like that, falls over and people can't really lift it.
- 8:14Sydney: But like you, just throw all that in ice in the drink dispenser and you leave and people can serve themselves and it's a really hefty, large drink.
- 8:27Sydney: So you don't have to worry about constantly putting bottles out.
- 8:34Eric: So what you have, yours is a little bit different.
- 8:36Eric: I've never made a sangria with vodka.
- 8:38Eric: I usually make it have brandy in mind, so yours is going to have a little bit more of a kick, i think so.
- 8:44Sydney: I was looking for more of like a refreshing.
- 8:47Sydney: I feel like brandy is a little bit like it's cozy.
- 8:51Sydney: So, for a summer's day.
- 8:54Sydney: You want a little bit more of a, and I made sure it wasn't gin for you.
- 9:00Eric: Thank you.
- 9:01Eric: I do have a question, though How do you get your fresh watermelon juice?
- 9:04Eric: It's not like I go down to the store and I see the you know, next to the orange juice and grapefruit juice.
- 9:09Eric: The watermelon juice.
- 9:10Eric: You're going to have to Smoosh in the watermelon and make an egg.
- 9:15Sydney: No, you got to put it in the blender, and sometimes it can take like a decent amount of watermelon to actually get the juice because you don't really want the pulp Right.
- 9:26Sydney: So because you are putting frozen watermelon in there afterwards, you know, and that gives it a little bit more flavor too.
- 9:33Sydney: But, like for the juice, you're going to put it in a blender or if you have like a magic bullet, and then you'll strain it through after you've emulsified it.
- 9:43Eric: But it is called watermelon for a reason, because it's essentially mostly all water anyhow.
- 9:47Eric: So imagine it probably does create quite a bit.
- 9:50Eric: But yeah, you probably have to use a little watermelon to get two cups.
- 9:55Sydney: And it is great because then it provides that hydration which you're already on like a hot day and you're drinking and you're like so this is a healthy drink.
- 10:03Sydney: I need a little bit of hydration.
- 10:07Eric: Okay.
- 10:07Eric: So when I go on a hike here in Arizona, which we are now going to have like two solid weeks over 110 degrees, i'll put in my camel back.
- 10:14Eric: This because it's a very it's a hydration drink.
- 10:18Sydney: And that is why you don't want the pulp in there, because you don't want to get stuck in your little straw Perfect, all right.
- 10:25Sydney: It is.
- 10:27Eric: It does sound very refreshing and it's very nice, especially, like I say, in this 112 today's 115 for a high.
- 10:34Eric: So it does sound like a very nice, good drink.
- 10:37Eric: And yeah, you're right, one of the great things about Sangria is how you just sort of throw it all in there, come back like two hours later, throw a little bit more ice and then start drinking.
- 10:46Sydney: Right, you don't even have to worry about it.
- 10:48Sydney: Guess third themselves.
- 10:51Eric: Love it, love it, love it.
- 10:52Eric: All right, let's get into this now.
- 10:55Eric: So we're going to be talking about our favorite male leads, female leads, supporting characters.
- 11:02Eric: Now, i know we talked about having the male leads first, but that seems very patriarchal.
- 11:07Eric: Should we start with the women?
- 11:10Eric: give the women the top billing, because, after all, it is Hallmark and they are the ones that drive the engine.
- 11:17Sydney: You know, I'm just making a reason for I can start talking about my You know, Eric, why don't you just kick us off with your favorite female lead, your first one?
- 11:28Eric: All right.
- 11:29Eric: Well, you know I spent a lot of time looking through all the different movies and everything and I really was struggling.
- 11:37Eric: But at the end of the day my number one turned out to be Brooke Burns.
- 11:41Eric: I was a Maggie in the Gourmet Detective And I just think the reason why she's on there is obviously I have, you know, an off the charts crush on her and, as I've said before, i've already told my kids, you know, just to start talking, you know calling her mom and stuff for the day, eventually that happens.
- 12:06Eric: They understand you know the ability of it.
- 12:09Eric: But no, in all seriousness, brooke burnt like yeah, i have my crush, but she also that Maggie character And we've talked about it as kind of one of the things we're looking forward in the Dancing Detective And I think that's that female having the female cop where we don't really have right, it's always the female nosy, busy body person.
- 12:30Eric: So that's one of the things I really like.
- 12:31Eric: I think she also just brings a ton of chemistry to the show.
- 12:35Eric: I think as Maggie she does just a great job of sort of having that tough, gruff cop thing, but at the same time she softens up and she starts bringing Henry on as her sidekick, kind of like one of the things we've talked about in Mystery 101, where they start out very skeptical but then they.
- 12:59Eric: We like it when they get over that hump a little quicker than drawing out too much.
- 13:05Eric: And I think she kind of did it.
- 13:06Eric: She started out all with awesome zingers, awesome zingers, but she fairly quickly does hop over it.
- 13:13Eric: And then the first kiss actually no, it's the second kiss.
- 13:16Eric: The first kiss was right in like the heat of passion of solving the case, but the second one, when they're walking down the street and she just, you know, henry's just talking away and she just grabs him and kisses him and walks away.
- 13:29Eric: I think it's the best kiss in all of Hallmark Mysteries.
- 13:32Eric: So, not the most passionate.
- 13:34Eric: We decided the most passionate was that ending of Crossword Mysteries, but I think it was the best kiss.
- 13:40Eric: So no surprise, Brooke Burns, my number one female lead.
- 13:46Eric: What about you?
- 13:47Eric: Who's yours?
- 13:49Sydney: Okay, my number one.
- 13:51Sydney: Wow, This is.
- 13:53Sydney: you may not expect this, but it is Holly Robinson Pete as Billy Blessings.
- 14:00Eric: No, I did not expect that.
- 14:02Sydney: Yeah, billy Blessings is to me a really underrated like character.
- 14:08Sydney: I feel like that whole show is so unique in the whole morning show angle Like I love the whole morning show type of angle but the fact that she also has this whole restaurant career on the side too.
- 14:22Sydney: When they first started the series I really loved the restaurant angle.
- 14:26Sydney: I loved that chef that she had kind of also working, that had the dog and then her aunt I think it's her aunt- That is her mom, it's all right.
- 14:38Sydney: I think it's her aunt, but who works the restaurant for her?
- 14:42Sydney: They, like the two of them had so much sass.
- 14:46Sydney: They were like some of the best side characters I ever experienced.
- 14:50Sydney: But the way she worked herself into these situations and the way that it just was so easy There's like a plethora of reasons that Mysteries could unfold and either one of those scenarios And I never felt like she was annoying or you know the busy body that we talk about in some of these scenarios No, i felt like she was so refreshing and interesting.
- 15:17Sydney: I loved her style.
- 15:19Eric: She definitely had style.
- 15:21Sydney: Great style And the fact of the matter is she's just a really phenomenal actress.
- 15:25Sydney: So it didn't feel like weird in any of the situations.
- 15:30Sydney: She just was a great lead and I really loved the whole thing.
- 15:35Sydney: I was kind of sad in the last one that Rick Fox wasn't in it.
- 15:40Sydney: I miss Rick Fox.
- 15:42Eric: Then the guy from Virgin River came.
- 15:44Sydney: Yeah, he's good, but he's just not a Rick Fox.
- 15:48Sydney: To me, this is LA Lakers.
- 15:53Eric: I'll say Rick Fox was, i thought, the weak link in the show.
- 15:57Eric: So we probably, when we get around to this because like that one, we'll have a little bit of a little feisty debate, because I agree Holly Robinson was great in that Now you know who wrote the morning show or, like, initially, did it right.
- 16:10Sydney: Yes, And who better?
- 16:12Sydney: You know he has that insight And you know what It was so funny when you would make those cameos.
- 16:17Sydney: Yeah, he'd always be like oh, billy Blessings, i love your work.
- 16:21Eric: Gotta make the cameo.
- 16:25Sydney: I love it.
- 16:26Sydney: Oh my God, who's next for you, Eric?
- 16:28Eric: So my next one was a real big battle, like I said, how it was, like, oh, it could be her, it could be her, and I was fighting between Kimberly William Paisley for Claire Darrow and Darrow and Darrow, and then Alison Sweeney and Alex McPherson in Chronicle and ended up going with Allie.
- 16:49Eric: I don't know Like at the end of the day, i don't know if it's just because I think Chronicle is such a good mystery that you know and she's part of it, But I like the fact and you know you're just talking about how she never yes, she was nosy and you know getting into things, but it was never seeming like for me where she was ridiculously getting into things.
- 17:11Eric: You know she was the podcaster, she's the investigative, true crime one, so I really liked that character and how it really made sense as she went through there.
- 17:20Eric: You know that's probably why you know you go Alison Sweeney and then you hop over to Murder, she Bakes, slash Hannah Swenson And she is that one where you're like, should she really be breaking into this guy's house going through his drawers And you know, you know.
- 17:37Eric: So, like you know, it's not just Alison Sweeney, but it's her as Alex McPherson, i thought also.
- 17:44Eric: I thought that was a really well written character, you know there's.
- 17:48Eric: I wish that they had some more seasons because a you know we already, as we talk, ben never got to kiss her.
- 17:56Eric: But also I just think there's some backstory to her that we they sort of hinted around that we never quite really got all of.
- 18:06Eric: So I would love to see that.
- 18:07Eric: But, like I said, so I had her on there just because I found her a very well developed character who totally made sense, kind of like your.
- 18:15Eric: Now she didn't quite have the fashion sense that that how.
- 18:20Sydney: Robinson had.
- 18:21Sydney: But I'm really sick of like them not give you know they gave Alice Sweeney great clothes for that wedding veil series.
- 18:29Sydney: Every time she's in the mystery she's like this what is happening?
- 18:33Sydney: You're always thinking what is, what are you wearing?
- 18:37Eric: And funny to say because I actually thought she had the best of the three in the wedding veil her wardrobe.
- 18:43Sydney: She did.
- 18:44Sydney: I thought she was wearing Gucci And she was just fantastic, and all those.
- 18:48Eric: Okay, how about you?
- 18:49Eric: Who's your second?
- 18:51Sydney: Oh my God.
- 18:51Sydney: So, like you, i struggled, but I struggled with more of the quirky people.
- 18:58Sydney: So I struggled with Nikki Deloach and Lacey Chavere.
- 19:04Eric: I was like which Lacey though, because she's in now two.
- 19:07Sydney: I know, but since we're talking about leading female lead, i don't know.
- 19:11Sydney: I mean, i just think I ended up with Nikki anyway So.
- 19:16Sydney: I just really enjoy watching her.
- 19:20Sydney: I mean, I think the character is a little bit funny and a little bit quirky And I think with a name like Goldie Berry, how can you not?
- 19:28Sydney: But I just enjoy the way she is.
- 19:33Sydney: I like her reactions to things.
- 19:35Sydney: I think it's really I'd like I like to see the character develop more.
- 19:41Sydney: But I kind of want to see right And I kind of want to see it develop more solely because of her.
- 19:47Sydney: Like I'm invested in the mystery and the character, just because of who she is, And I think that says a lot if you can really nab someone's interest by just acting like No, I totally get where you're coming from, because she is a really good actor.
- 20:05Sydney: Yeah.
- 20:06Sydney: So I mean, there's nothing in particular that she does that makes me like think, wow, it's just kind of a combative thing, it's like altogether makes me like her a lot.
- 20:22Eric: I can totally see where you're coming from.
- 20:24Eric: I think all four of those can't really go wrong.
- 20:32Eric: I think you can go more right with one of them, but all four of them were fantastic And I think even our backups you know, kimberly Williams Paisley or Lacey Schabert having and then this would not be like by any means a downgrade either They're both both fantastic.
- 20:49Eric: All right, let's talk about guys.
- 20:51Eric: So I'm going to go kind of like with your Lacey, and my first one I'm going to talk about is Christopher Palaja, as Travis And Travis Burke is and the reason why I went with it.
- 21:08Eric: Kind of like what you're saying, i think Christopher is just hands down the best actor in the whole hallmark universe.
- 21:16Eric: I think a lot of them are great, really good.
- 21:23Eric: He's just on a different level than everybody else And what he brought to that character and it probably explains a lot to why the fans for Mystery 101 are so passionate and why they want to keep going and why they're so invested in that Travis Amy relationship.
- 21:42Eric: I get it And it's just.
- 21:43Eric: He's just such a good actor And That's it.
- 21:49Eric: I mean, he's just a great actor.
- 21:53Sydney: Yeah, he is, and he's really easy on the eyes.
- 21:57Eric: Yes, my wife is, Let me know that too, and she's walked in other than with I don't remember the name of the soccer one Yeah.
- 22:05Eric: That's the.
- 22:07Eric: That's usually my gauge If my wife comments because she's so unengaged in the hallmark that I'm like, ok yeah, he's a.
- 22:15Sydney: He's a hotty As he is and the way he wears those jeans.
- 22:22Eric: Ok, I'm sorry So you may have to take a sip of this angry to cool off a little bit there now.
- 22:29Sydney: I'm actually hydrating right now because I will be having that later, so fantastic.
- 22:33Sydney: So I'm going to give you a chance to guess who my first one is, because I run an alley.
- 22:41Sydney: Oh, yes, yeah.
- 22:48Sydney: so you know me, i gush and beam over the Bren and Elliott because he just is so cute And you guys are.
- 23:00Eric: BFFs.
- 23:01Sydney: I mean I hope, i like to think we are, but you know, i think that he so for us.
- 23:08Sydney: We know him in two roles, so we know Miss Marco and Flower Shop Mysteries and we know him as Logan in crossword mysteries.
- 23:18Sydney: So I just love that here he is in two different mystery roles.
- 23:24Sydney: He brings two different types of characters.
- 23:27Sydney: He totally commits to them, right down to his little leather bracelet, and he's just so good, like every time I watch him, like his inflections, his tone, it's like he's he makes those characters his own And I just so enjoy it And I just can't wait.
- 23:51Sydney: I'm like crossing my fingers for the next one, like third mystery series, bring it please.
- 23:58Eric: I do have a little bit of a bone to pick with you with that, though, because you told me to watch Cedar Cove And he.
- 24:05Eric: I definitely look at him now in a different way.
- 24:08Sydney: But he's good, See you can play that.
- 24:10Sydney: Like he's a jerk.
- 24:12Sydney: I know he can play the jerk so well.
- 24:17Eric: It's like too well.
- 24:18Sydney: It's kind of like that bad boy that you Well, not you, but me like with date in college and you're like, oh OK, like he's so cute, but then he doesn't like give you the time of day And then like you have to break up with him, but like you know he's, so you got to do to make those mistakes along the road?
- 24:37Sydney: OK, where are you at now?
- 24:40Eric: You want to guess who my number two is?
- 24:43Sydney: Dylan McNeil.
- 24:45Eric: Well, first of all, i don't know who Dylan McNeil is, but Oh my god it's Dylan Neil.
- 24:50Sydney: I'm so sorry, he's just getting a little you.
- 24:53Eric: He had a little grimace shake And he became a male.
- 24:56Eric: You're wrong, Shut up.
- 25:00Sydney: Mary.
- 25:01Eric: Brennan Elliott As Marco.
- 25:06Sydney: Oh my god, I cannot believe, and once again.
- 25:09Eric: You know I love Dylan Neil.
- 25:10Eric: I think he is the coolest guy ever.
- 25:12Eric: He's one of the hallmark people who actually does talk to me on Instagram And he's the one who's given me a lot of background on.
- 25:19Eric: You know what it takes to make movies and education, and you always would make time to talk.
- 25:24Eric: So he's a great guy, but I can't believe this.
- 25:28Eric: Brennan Elliott is Marco.
- 25:29Eric: That character just made that entire mystery And that's one of my favorite mysteries.
- 25:36Eric: Yeah, because he was able to like and he talked about this when we, when we had him on the podcast he was able to like, just make fun of himself in the role.
- 25:48Eric: You know, when they were talking about the dancing scene with Brooke, and they're like, ok, well, do you want to do something?
- 25:53Eric: We know, brooke, bring the heels down or something.
- 25:55Eric: And he's like no way, you go with it.
- 25:57Eric: You know, bring her on at full six.
- 25:59Eric: But so she towers over me And just how he was like always trying to like get with her and always kept getting denied, but then at the same time, he was like a fun sleuther too.
- 26:10Eric: And when they did their little stakeouts together and then only have her come over to make the five, all of Martini and just all this, i just thought Marco is one of my favorite characters in all of the mysteries And, as you know, huge, huge, huge Dylan Neal fans.
- 26:28Eric: So for me to put Brennan Elliott above him, that says a lot about what what Brennan did for the building Jake So yeah.
- 26:36Eric: And then, yes, of course I loved him in in Crossword, but it was, it was Marco.
- 26:42Sydney: that was sort of really sealed the deal.
- 26:44Eric: I chose the character kind of over the actor a little bit in that one.
- 26:49Eric: So yeah the shocker.
- 26:51Eric: We both know I say your, your Holly Robinson was a shocker for me.
- 26:54Eric: And there you go, there's my shocker.
- 26:57Sydney: I am so shocked, ok, ok.
- 26:59Eric: So now for for you.
- 27:03Sydney: So I kind of in the same vein as, like you know, Nikki Deloge, I kind of went with the new beat, the mystery scene.
- 27:10Sydney: I went with Paul Campbell.
- 27:13Eric: All right.
- 27:15Sydney: So I love how quirky he is And I love that he's not a detective, because, like so, many of these, we get a detective But he offers just something so different from our normal detective businessman scenario.
- 27:31Sydney: I like that he brings like a real comedic timing, because most of these mysteries I feel like there aren't a lot of comedy elements to them, And this one really had me laughing And it was a lot of like the behaviors that he does, whether it's like facial expressions or you know just his timing.
- 27:52Sydney: It's very, it's great, And that acting makes me want to see more.
- 27:57Sydney: And again it's like what more could you ask for?
- 28:03Eric: I would not argue with you at all.
- 28:04Eric: The only reason why I would only push back, i would just give, is we've had one performance.
- 28:11Eric: So I know, but that's not his fault, he would and he, he brought it.
- 28:14Eric: Like he said, he totally, totally, totally brought it.
- 28:16Eric: So yeah, and I would.
- 28:18Sydney: I just I really love that character And I think if anyone else was playing it I just wouldn't love it as much Like.
- 28:27Sydney: There's just no one else I can envision in that role.
- 28:31Eric: Yeah, actually that is.
- 28:32Eric: Ooh, maybe that's a future podcast where we recast movies and really upset people.
- 28:39Eric: Yeah, that would.
- 28:41Eric: Oh my God, let's start with Mystery 101, then we'll go to Science Hill Delivered with our recasting, and then we will have to hide out for the rest of the year.
- 28:53Sydney: Forever, forever All right.
- 28:56Eric: Okay, moving on For supporting.
- 28:57Eric: Who's your first supporting character?
- 29:02Sydney: I don't know if this is a shock or a shock.
- 29:04Sydney: I don't know if this is a shock or not.
- 29:07Sydney: I went with Graham Winslow.
- 29:09Sydney: Graham Winslow, he is my favorite third wheel.
- 29:12Sydney: All right, he just he's just so.
- 29:16Sydney: He's like the I don't know He's.
- 29:20Sydney: I keep wanting to say he's adorable, like he's an adorable dad, like he just shows up in every scenario you'd want to dad and he's.
- 29:29Sydney: He's a.
- 29:29Sydney: He's a good, solid character and he has such a cool background, being like a mystery writer, and I love that.
- 29:38Sydney: I love the whole mystery might writer element and I just love how he's there for Amy And he's a character in it in his own right.
- 29:45Sydney: You know it's.
- 29:46Sydney: It's almost like most of these side characters they don't give too much to, but for him they really give you a lot of love.
- 29:55Sydney: They're not the side characters they don't give too much to, but for him they really built him into that whole trifecta.
- 30:03Sydney: There He was really part of the team.
- 30:07Eric: It's interesting because when I was thinking the side characters and I thought mystery one on one, i thought of and I'm going brain dead right now which I'll get her assistant and then his.
- 30:18Eric: The TA, and then the other, his Travis's partner, the female cop.
- 30:26Eric: I didn't even think Graham as far as being a side character because, like you say, he's so woven into it.
- 30:32Eric: But yeah, he is the third, definitely the third wheel.
- 30:36Sydney: Third wheel.
- 30:36Sydney: What about you?
- 30:38Eric: Well, first on there, i think he's actually just a super interesting guy, like in his real life, when he I think I shared this before as John Lennon story about how he was working on John Lennon's nursery for Sean Lennon and John Lennon's like playing songs, form like the week before he gets assassinated and stuff.
- 30:59Eric: So I think he's just got a fantastic like personal life, real life, outside of the character.
- 31:04Sydney: Yeah.
- 31:05Eric: So my first or my supporting probably not a huge surprise is JC Doton.
- 31:12Eric: This is Marla, and I just love how quirky she is.
- 31:19Eric: She's just cracks me up whenever she's on screen.
- 31:24Eric: I think that her relationship with Nikki is one of the things that really elevates that show.
- 31:31Eric: She's got great comedic timing, she has fantastic hair, but that's a whole other story, she was also our very first guest that we ever had.
- 31:41Eric: So I think she's just a great character.
- 31:43Eric: So I think that's a great story.
- 31:47Eric: So got a lover for that.
- 31:49Eric: But yeah, he's this one who I think And you know we're going to talk about a little bit who we think should get elevated into a leading role.
- 31:56Eric: She definitely hands down, should be, but I have her for this one.
- 32:00Eric: So Marla just absolutely love everything that she's done to create Marla as that character.
- 32:07Eric: Like, i can just think of every scene that she's in, so I think that's a great story course.
- 32:14Sydney: So I don't know.
- 32:17Sydney: I'm maybe this on your list, maybe it's not, but I guarantee mine is not on your list.
- 32:22Sydney: Okay, all right, barbara Niven as Dolores Swanson.
- 32:27Sydney: Dolores, oh my God, are you kidding?
- 32:30Sydney: For first of all, barbara is like the dream actress for a mom.
- 32:35Sydney: Like she's who I want to play my mom.
- 32:38Sydney: She's perfect in the mom role, whether it was just big shores or you know, there's a couple movies on hallmark that she's played someone's mom, obviously, and but her is Dolores Swanson, like chef's kiss It's.
- 32:52Sydney: She is so fabulous.
- 32:54Sydney: She just really adds to everything.
- 32:57Sydney: She has great style, she is super fun And she gives like that motherly touch when you really either need like a comedic moment or a bit of sentiment.
- 33:07Sydney: It's, it's really.
- 33:10Sydney: It really adds to that whole mystery.
- 33:13Sydney: Like if they were remaking the Hannah Swanson mysteries without like Dolores, i would.
- 33:20Sydney: Yeah that would go.
- 33:22Eric: I agree.
- 33:22Eric: Now how about?
- 33:25Eric: as what?
- 33:26Eric: why don't I know aunt what's her name on crossword and Oh yeah.
- 33:32Sydney: I can't get aunt Sadie out of my head because of I know I can't remember her year, but you know I didn't care for her so much in the ant role as I did the mother role.
- 33:44Eric: Okay, i think she's fantastic everywhere I like to remember, yeah, she is.
- 33:48Eric: Okay, i think it's a very, very solid one.
- 33:52Eric: All right, i'm going to give you two guesses, and I bet you do not get mine.
- 34:02Sydney: Okay, I'm going to say Oh my God, Wendy Malek.
- 34:07Eric: Oh no, she was good, she was very fun And that one very sad.
- 34:10Sydney: Okay.
- 34:11Eric: Love their sarcasm, nope.
- 34:15Sydney: One more guess Little little sister and Hannah Swanson.
- 34:20Eric: Now there's two sisters.
- 34:21Eric: I don't know which one to be.
- 34:22Eric: No, clarence Williams, the third, philby from mystery.
- 34:28Sydney: Okay, good one Yeah.
- 34:30Eric: Now that's going deep, but he was so good because I just didn't know who the hell he was.
- 34:37Eric: Was he like a CIA guy?
- 34:40Eric: Was he, he was something?
- 34:42Eric: Yeah, and the way he, you know, he's just the little, you know helper, father figure at the bookstore And yet somehow he's got the like the bat phone to essentially the president to, you know, pull out all this stuff.
- 35:03Eric: He, that character was just awesome.
- 35:05Sydney: I love And then if you ever look, at his IMDB.
- 35:09Eric: It's just fantastic there, but I just love that character He was.
- 35:13Eric: He was great.
- 35:14Eric: I knew you wouldn't be able to guess it.
- 35:15Eric: That wasn't even fair to me to ask.
- 35:17Eric: It's kind of like our our, uh, we did, you know today's Tuesday and we did our Tuesday trivia with the crossword clue that um Tess was trying to do, and we did have actually one person get it, but I don't even think Lacey would get that one Right.
- 35:32Eric: That was, that was a little tough, tough Tuesday trivia.
- 35:35Eric: So right, who's yours?
- 35:39Sydney: I think it's.
- 35:39Sydney: It's a little bit of a mystery.
- 35:40Sydney: So for the two people we think should step into mystery lead roles, i first went with.
- 35:48Sydney: Well, since I just guessed it for you, i went with Michelle Swinson.
- 35:52Sydney: I think Hannah's little sister could step up and have like an off shoot of her own with the photography angle.
- 36:02Sydney: She, she was like oh, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry It was, it was a picture, a mysterious incidents by happenstance or she was she's reviewing older photos from like protests or something long ago and she uncovered some sort of mystery on the photography.
- 36:30Sydney: It was like oh, there's a, she's taking pictures and something happens while she's at an event.
- 36:36Sydney: It wasn't so much the picture, It was where she was taking pictures a wedding, someone got shot.
- 36:43Sydney: Her pictures didn't help solve anything necessarily, you know, and I feel like that's kind of a missed opportunity.
- 36:51Eric: I had a good old friend, madison Smith.
- 36:53Eric: He's got the lead in some other things.
- 36:58Eric: He's got to stop killing people if he wants to be the lead in a mystery.
- 37:04Eric: But he's got the lead our main character in upcoming E-ROMCOM and some of the other networks.
- 37:17Eric: He's had lead characters.
- 37:18Eric: He's definitely, i think, got the acting chops for it, he's got the hair for it, he's a good looking dude.
- 37:26Eric: I think he's ready to make that next step.
- 37:29Eric: Plus, we need like Nikki, brennan and Lacey.
- 37:34Eric: They're all fantastic, but we do need to start getting the younger actors in there too so we can have these characters we enjoy for the next 10 years.
- 37:47Eric: And so, yeah, i brought Madison saying okay, stop killing people and we support you for getting the lead and being like, because I think he also kind of I mean, he was the cop in Nikki and Nora And I think he definitely pulled off that.
- 38:04Eric: Look, he can walk around with his vest on if he wants.
- 38:07Eric: A little place vest, whatever he wants.
- 38:10Sydney: Or without it.
- 38:12Eric: Or without it, you can hang out at the bar and drink the beer.
- 38:14Eric: But no, i thought he was ready, So there's my first one.
- 38:19Sydney: Great, I think so too Now how about you Second?
- 38:23Sydney: Oh okay, so I'm also kind of going a little bit back, but not as far back as you went for Clarence.
- 38:30Sydney: So I think Hannah Shannon, jennifer Shannon of Garage Sale Mysteries daughter, should have her own spin off, and I think it would be.
- 38:43Sydney: She's in grad school and there's some and she's getting some sort of history degree And she, on the weekends, because of her mother, she likes to go to huge flea markets and she stumbles across something with a hidden pass And she can always call home to her mom for like a little bit of guidance on how to solve the mystery.
- 39:04Sydney: And I think it would be a really great way to reintroduce Garage Sale Mysteries because I think they were fun And I'd like to make more.
- 39:13Sydney: But okay.
- 39:14Eric: So you're doing a little roar here and stand a little bit with it, but then doing a little spin to keep it going, i like it.
- 39:22Sydney: And I love that actress And forgive me I didn't write it down who plays and she was just in the Hallmark movie last weekend about the wedding matchmaker And the man.
- 39:37Sydney: Yeah, and that's the daughter Bekah Tobin.
- 39:41Sydney: Yeah, so The one that was like the Indian wedding and everything.
- 39:49Eric: Oh no, no, no, beccatoban was in the wedding contract one, Yeah, okay.
- 39:56Sydney: This was.
- 39:57Sydney: I can't remember what it's called, but yes.
- 40:00Eric: So she was the one who was the lead in the-.
- 40:02Sydney: Yes, oh, yes, she was adorable, yeah, yeah.
- 40:05Sydney: Yes, she's great And I would love to see more of her, and I think she could easily carry that over.
- 40:11Eric: She's the daughter from Cross Omistries.
- 40:13Sydney: Mm-hmm, she could carry that over her way.
- 40:15Sydney: Yeah, and I would love it if also she called her-.
- 40:18Eric: She's growing up.
- 40:19Sydney: Also, her dad got on the phone.
- 40:19Eric: Steve Bosson Hey dad, can you come make a cameo?
- 40:25Eric: Yeah, I can But he's a little gruffer now, but all right, that's fantastic.
- 40:30Eric: I 100% agree.
- 40:31Eric: In fact, the funny thing you say that is, i thought about her.
- 40:35Eric: Not I like your spin on that, but I thought about how she and then also the daughter from Chronicle Mysteries I thought she was also a great character who I think could step up.
- 40:48Eric: I forget what her name is, but yeah, i like both of those.
- 40:52Eric: But okay, mine may not be quite as top of mind.
- 40:58Eric: She's had a lot of the supporting roles in some Hallmark movies, the rom-coms, but she was in a Grottosale Mystery as well, the novel Murders, but she had one line, but it is Brittany Mitchell And she's, like I say, probably not quite as there.
- 41:16Eric: She's always sort of in that secondary role but she just if you look at her, she just looks like she's a sleuther And she's also, if you go through into some of her other movies that she's in, she's gotten a got that genre down.
- 41:33Eric: So you know Altered Carbon I don't know what that is, but Cradle did fall.
- 41:39Eric: What is this one?
- 41:42Eric: He's not worth dying for.
- 41:44Sydney: Oh my gosh, are these lifetime movies?
- 41:47Eric: Probably, but she was in last one she was in was The Gift of Peace.
- 41:52Sydney: Oh, okay, what.
- 41:53Eric: She was in Gingerbread Miracle.
- 41:54Eric: Like I say, she's not necessarily a sidekick, but she's one of the other ones, but she's just absolutely fantastic And, like I say, it's mostly she just has that look that I think is ready for a sleuther And she's in acting class with Madison.
- 42:12Eric: So I thought the two of them could like pair up and be a sleuthing couple.
- 42:18Eric: Maybe not, you know, not the birdie Alden type thing, but you know.
- 42:21Eric: Yeah, yeah, but they're all a cop and you know you come up with some other A cop and a psychic.
- 42:27Eric: Yes, there we go, There we go.
- 42:32Sydney: Make it a spooky one.
- 42:34Eric: We gotta get you talking to like hallmarks, programming people or something like that.
- 42:39Eric: I like that.
- 42:39Eric: I like that idea is yes.
- 42:41Eric: so I would say everyone, go, hop on, check out her on IMDB, So you'll see what I mean by her having just that total sleuther look.
- 42:52Eric: So she's fantastic.
- 42:53Eric: But I also had just thrown it off and you can quickly throw it out.
- 42:58Eric: We were talking, obviously, when we set this up, like who would we want to see as an up and comer?
- 43:04Eric: But I'm just gonna ask you quickly, as far as like established, who's a leading female lead and a leading actor?
- 43:13Eric: I'll give you a moment to think about it.
- 43:15Eric: I'll tell you my quick one is I thought and not necessarily saying they're paired together, but I think would be good ones to bring on And probably no surprise in this just time.
- 43:27Eric: but Kimberly saw Stad.
- 43:28Eric: she could once again be a quirky fun, Like you're just talking about the psychic.
- 43:33Eric: She could be like hilarious in a role like that where a little bit of kooky and stuff.
- 43:40Eric: But I think any movie with Kimberly is always just enjoyable and she's got a really good legion of followers, so I think she would be great.
- 43:50Eric: And then Ryan Pavey.
- 43:51Eric: I think if you wanna look at someone who could be a detective like I want Victor Webster back.
- 43:58Eric: first of all, say that.
- 43:59Eric: But I'm saying people who haven't had a mystery And we can talk match maker and later point would say whether or not really Victor had a mystery or not debatable.
- 44:12Sydney: We have to review it.
- 44:14Eric: But Ryan Pavey, i think he just has a.
- 44:17Eric: I look like a New York detective kind of.
- 44:21Sydney: Or an attorney.
- 44:22Sydney: He looks like an attorney for sure with that hair.
- 44:27Eric: So he's too young to be with Kimberly William Paisley.
- 44:31Eric: But yeah, as I say, daryl, daryl, the next generation.
- 44:37Eric: We're just spinning off all the everyone's complained about.
- 44:41Eric: they got canceled, so we'll just spin them all off and make new ones.
- 44:44Eric: Yeah, why not?
- 44:46Eric: So you had a couple moments just to think.
- 44:48Eric: Who would you have to say?
- 44:51Sydney: You caught me, but like I think, right away what popped into my head was Brittany Bristow.
- 45:00Eric: Okay.
- 45:00Sydney: I think she's really cool and peppy And she might make like a cool Nancy Drew type of mystery Or She feels that like bringing in the young blood, kind of thing.
- 45:13Sydney: Yeah, And what about, ooh, like for her?
- 45:16Sydney: I see something like like almost a rear window thing, Like she's a housewife or something.
- 45:24Sydney: And she happens to be cleanier when she looks out and she sees something happening like over the hedge And like it.
- 45:30Sydney: you know, it's just stuff she sees, you know, or whatever.
- 45:34Sydney: But I think in the guy not necessarily with her, but it would be Tyler Hines, because I feel like we need some bad boy mystery.
- 45:44Eric: That's why I also didn't pick him too, because when I knew I was going in the spot, tyler is, just say, such a obvious choice.
- 45:52Sydney: Yes, definitely.
- 45:54Eric: But yeah.
- 45:55Sydney: Low hanging fruit.
- 45:57Eric: That I will.
- 45:57Eric: I forget what the one we made up was the island of Orca or Orca Islander, whatever, yeah, where he's remember your idea of where you go through and he's good, he's good, he's good, and then he turns out to be actually bad.
- 46:10Sydney: You later discover he would be perfect in that role.
- 46:13Sydney: Yes.
- 46:15Eric: Where everyone loves him and thinks he's so great, He'll chew on his little candy cane solving crimes.
- 46:20Eric: And then later you find out he's the actual mastermind behind it.
- 46:26Sydney: Yes.
- 46:26Eric: The bad cop or whatever.
- 46:27Eric: Yeah, he would be fantastic in that role.
- 46:30Eric: And then all the hearts.
- 46:31Eric: What do you call the Hines?
- 46:33Eric: Is that what the right?
- 46:34Eric: Hines yeah, Yeah.
- 46:36Eric: all the Hines will just like their hearts will just explode as he turns out to be evil.
- 46:41Sydney: No, they would be going Kind of like Madison does to me.
- 46:43Sydney: Hines would be writing him letters in prison.
- 46:47Sydney: That's a good point.
- 46:49Sydney: Are you kidding me?
- 46:51Eric: Ooh.
- 46:51Sydney: River runs deep.
- 46:53Eric: Now I know he's not dating anybody else, so hmm, Yeah.
- 46:58Eric: I'll go Perfect.
- 46:59Eric: All right, there we go.
- 47:01Eric: Well, i guess I think we could record this again and have a whole nother list and have equally great others.
- 47:08Eric: And so I don't want to say this because we left someone's name off that by any means they means we don't love them, we don't enjoy them and all that, but we kind of had to do this tough decision.
- 47:20Eric: It's kind of like when we do the would you rather, and we put the two people up and then people are always saying, why didn't you pick the third one?
- 47:27Eric: Because you only can take two right And you have to make a tough decision.
- 47:30Eric: So that's what we did.
- 47:32Eric: I really liked some of yours And I thought, like some of your ideas there, like that grass sale mystery too, love the idea.
- 47:40Eric: I think that's a fantastic idea.
- 47:43Eric: And then she could have it at.
- 47:45Eric: Her mom maybe went off to jail because she, you know, got arrested for something.
- 47:50Sydney: Finally, Yeah, she had been nipping her.
- 47:52Sydney: So, or not I know, i know I'm not super anti-Lori Loughlin.
- 48:00Sydney: I just Her dad went to jail in mystery 101.
- 48:03Sydney: Let's not forget He was been dictated as well.
- 48:06Eric: So Good point, very good point.
- 48:10Eric: Still waiting on.
- 48:12Eric: I should take back my Madison stuff there.
- 48:14Eric: He hasn't got you Steve's cell phone number yet.
- 48:17Eric: Give him one job to do, and what's he doing?
- 48:21Eric: He's off like auditioning and doing all these other things And he's not getting you Steve basics cell phone number.
- 48:27Sydney: It's okay.
- 48:28Eric: Madison.
- 48:29Sydney: I still have a special place in my heart.
- 48:32Eric: For both.
- 48:35Eric: Okay, Well, I hope you guys enjoyed this podcast.
- 48:38Eric: Love to hear what you think who you're Well, I know we hear it all the time who a lot of people's favorite actor and female lead is as well.
- 48:49Eric: So male lead and female lead.
- 48:51Eric: But here in some of the people you think may be ready for stepping up some of these side characters.
- 48:56Eric: But in the meantime, go ahead, give us a pie star review if you like.
- 49:02Eric: Leave us a comment.
- 49:04Eric: We'd love to hear your, or love to hear, love to read your comments.

- 49:55Eric: You don't have anyone that you very much dislike.
- 49:59Eric: So there we go.
- 50:00Eric: We have a pretty good, positive community that we're trying to foster, so we don't need to hear the negativity.
