- 0:18Speaker 2: dot com. Roger Friedman, how you doing?
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm okay? Are you? Have you been talking politics this morning? No?
- 0:26Speaker 2: We never talked politics.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Well, Mark, who you're voting for? From mayor?
- 0:32Speaker 2: Oh? I love that mom, Donnie. He's great, don't you
- 0:34Speaker 2: think you know?
- 0:36Speaker 1: It's just I just have to say before we get
- 0:38Speaker 1: into a conversation about Hollywood, which I want to do
- 0:41Speaker 1: because I saw a great movie last night, everyone's gonna love. Uh,
- 0:46Speaker 1: this cannot go on with mom, Donnie. And you know
- 0:49Speaker 1: his mother is a film director and she's a wonderful person.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Let me tell you. I know her and she's a
- 0:55Speaker 1: great lady. But this is not acceptable. And I'm voting
- 0:59Speaker 1: for a Cuomo despite all of his baggage. And I
- 1:04Speaker 1: just wanted to say to the your listeners, I'm going
- 1:06Speaker 1: to say this four more times this month to make
- 1:09Speaker 1: sure everyone knows. Please vote for Andrew Cromourt Okay, I'm
- 1:14Speaker 1: not going to vote for Curtis, but I like him
- 1:16Speaker 1: a lot. Okay, yeah, I like him. I like his spirit.
- 1:19Speaker 2: This mom, Donnie mother, the filmmaker, she they seemed to
- 1:22Speaker 2: have a lot, A great person, but how successful. I'm
- 1:25Speaker 2: not familiar with her film. I mean she's near and naiyear.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Oh she made a monsoon wedding. She's made great movies. Oh,
- 1:34Speaker 1: the Namesake is a movie I adore. She's a great filmmaker.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And if you met her and you would say she's
- 1:41Speaker 1: a fabulous person. She's not anti Semitics, she's not any
- 1:43Speaker 1: of these things. But regardless of how much I love
- 1:48Speaker 1: the mother, I just have to say, the son really
- 1:51Speaker 1: should find another job.
- 1:52Speaker 2: All right, Well, okay, they sound like great films. They're
- 1:54Speaker 2: not Casino or Goodfellows, but they sound like good No.
- 1:57Speaker 1: She made she's made great films, and she's she's very
- 2:00Speaker 1: well liked and everyone should be nice to her.
- 2:03Speaker 2: And well, you know, we'll work on that.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And I'm glad that her son wants a job. But
- 2:08Speaker 1: this isn't really We're going to go a different.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Way, ay, but let's talk about something more important. Taylor Swift,
- 2:15Speaker 2: how success, my god, how successful? Was this album in numbers,
- 2:18Speaker 2: in actual metrics.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Okay, so they're saying that she sold. They're saying that
- 2:23Speaker 1: she's going to sell through Friday three million albums or
- 2:26Speaker 1: maybe more, maybe four million. A lot of that is
- 2:28Speaker 1: from streaming. It's not from CBS, although a lot will
- 2:32Speaker 1: be from CBS. LPs, cassettes.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Wait, wait, wait, you can buy a CD. I didn't
- 2:37Speaker 2: even know they still existed.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Oh but you can. People buy CBS all the time,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and in fact they're popular again I heard, and LPs
- 2:44Speaker 1: are popular. And for some reason, Taylor Swift sells cassettes.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I have no idea what people play them on. But
- 2:52Speaker 1: so she sold a lot of records. Then on Apple,
- 2:55Speaker 1: on iTunes, she's made it so that the album can
- 2:59Speaker 1: only be bought in whole. You cannot buy a single
- 3:01Speaker 1: from it. It's only the whole album. And now she's
- 3:04Speaker 1: made the whole album four ninety nine because she wants
- 3:08Speaker 1: to break records so that, you know, people will buy
- 3:12Speaker 1: so many copies of four ninety nine. A regular iTunes
- 3:17Speaker 1: download is like eleven ninety nine. So they're doing every
- 3:20Speaker 1: they're bending over backwards to get break records. Here Adele
- 3:26Speaker 1: with her twenty five album in twenty fifteen, she sold
- 3:30Speaker 1: I think three point four million, So they're trying to
- 3:32Speaker 1: break that record and they'll do anything they can to
- 3:35Speaker 1: do it.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Now, did she also release like an extended album with
- 3:39Speaker 2: all sorts of extra stuff.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, she's got four more CDs that you can buy
- 3:44Speaker 1: in addition to this that are eight dollars apiece. And
- 3:47Speaker 1: they would add on to the sales. They keep looking
- 3:51Speaker 1: every day, they add on some new thing to build.
- 3:54Speaker 1: These teenage girls, I have to say, they deserve to
- 3:57Speaker 1: be at the Wharton School of Business or at Harvard
- 4:00Speaker 1: at NBA. They should be studying Taylor Swift's marketing. It
- 4:04Speaker 1: is absolutely genius. Well your life thing I have. The
- 4:09Speaker 1: negative thing I have to say about Taylor Swift is
- 4:11Speaker 1: that several of the songs sound like other people's songs,
- 4:16Speaker 1: and the fans immediately discovered this on Friday when the
- 4:20Speaker 1: album came out. And one of the songs is the
- 4:23Speaker 1: title song of the album is called The Life of
- 4:25Speaker 1: a Showgirl is a direct ripoff of a Jonas Brothers
- 4:28Speaker 1: song called Cool. You listen to it and you think, well,
- 4:31Speaker 1: how does she get away with this? I don't know how,
- 4:33Speaker 1: don't know how she's going to get away with it.
- 4:35Speaker 1: But it's very weird. The whole thing with this album
- 4:40Speaker 1: seems to be more about having success with it than
- 4:44Speaker 1: making it a good album, you know what I mean.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Now she's also got everything else, sweaters, mittens, t
- 4:51Speaker 2: shirts righty, oh.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yes, she's very big on sweaters. You can buy a
- 4:54Speaker 1: Taylor Swift cardigan. It says it's emblazoned with the letters
- 4:58Speaker 1: TS on it. I guess you could say it's Times Square.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, she's selling everything on her website,
- 5:06Speaker 1: anything that isn't nailed down as being sold for Taylor Swift.
- 5:10Speaker 1: And you try to imagine that back in our heyday
- 5:14Speaker 1: that Joni Mitchell or Carol cam or Carly Simon would
- 5:17Speaker 1: do didn't do anything like this. They just put out
- 5:21Speaker 1: records that have lasted fifty years, but they didn't you
- 5:24Speaker 1: know that. You couldn't buy key chains or anything else
- 5:26Speaker 1: that I know of. So it's very strange the whole thing.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah, But of question, it was a different world then.
- 5:32Speaker 2: All you had was radio and TV. You didn't have
- 5:34Speaker 2: the Internet, you didn't have social you didn't have any
- 5:36Speaker 2: of that stuff. That's true, So, hey, a lot of
- 5:39Speaker 2: controversy over Bad Bunny. But you know, I watched him
- 5:41Speaker 2: on Saturday Night Live. He's kind of a charming guy,
- 5:44Speaker 2: that Bad Bunny.
- 5:45Speaker 1: He's very charming. Yeah, he's very charming and he's a
- 5:48Speaker 1: lot of fun. He'll make a great super Bowl show.
- 5:51Speaker 1: He's going to make a great show. I don't know what.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I don't know why people got so excited about.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Because he said horrible things about political stuff, but.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Well he didn't. He doesn't want to tour the country
- 6:02Speaker 1: because he doesn't want his fans to be arrested during
- 6:04Speaker 1: the shows. Yeah, which is a legitimate concern. But but
- 6:09Speaker 1: he is Puerto Rican and you know Puerto Ricans are
- 6:11Speaker 1: actually American.
- 6:13Speaker 2: You're kidding? Oh my god?
- 6:14Speaker 1: No did you know? Now?
- 6:17Speaker 2: Thing was my Oh? But how big is he? I mean,
- 6:22Speaker 2: I've heard of him, I've heard his music. But for
- 6:24Speaker 2: the super Bowl, aren't you supposed to be like Michael
- 6:27Speaker 2: Jackson Taylor Swift kind of big?
- 6:29Speaker 1: Oh? He's already sold. He put out an album last January.
- 6:32Speaker 1: It's sold almost three million copies since then. This that's
- 6:38Speaker 1: just that album altogether this year of twenty twenty five,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and it's only October or whatever it is. Seventh. He
- 6:45Speaker 1: sold about five million records this year, so he's hugely popular.
- 6:50Speaker 1: And he just in Puerto Rico. He just did this,
- 6:53Speaker 1: you know, thirty day residency in one of their you know,
- 6:57Speaker 1: spectacular show places. People to the States were flying there
- 7:01Speaker 1: to see it. So it was sold out every night.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it was like the hot ticket was going
- 7:06Speaker 1: to Puerto Rico to see Bad Bunny. So you know,
- 7:09Speaker 1: he's going to have a great super Bowl show. Everyone
- 7:12Speaker 1: should be happy with him when he does it. They're
- 7:14Speaker 1: all going to say, like, like, remember when Ricky Martin
- 7:17Speaker 1: did the Grammys twenty years ago. He did with a
- 7:20Speaker 1: LaVita loca and people were like, who is this guy?
- 7:23Speaker 1: Everyone fell in love with him. That's what Bad Bunny
- 7:25Speaker 1: will be like on the super Bowl.
- 7:27Speaker 2: It's pretty good. You know, you go back you look
- 7:28Speaker 2: at the original Super Bowl. The halftime was like Anty
- 7:31Speaker 2: Williams or people.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Let's not knock Andy Williams. Oh he was a great guy.
- 7:40Speaker 1: He was a lovely guy. Now, last night I went
- 7:43Speaker 1: to this movie at the New York Film Festival. It
- 7:45Speaker 1: was the surprise screening of the festival, except by the
- 7:48Speaker 1: time you got there there was no secret. Even the
- 7:51Speaker 1: I said even the hot dog vendors knew what was
- 7:53Speaker 1: going on, but the place was packed and it was
- 7:56Speaker 1: for a new movie starring Timothy Tallome. And the movie
- 8:00Speaker 1: is called Marty Supreme.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's about Marty Reesman. I actually knew the guy.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Did you know him very well? Yeah, you knew him.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's about Marty a ping kong player. What he
- 8:12Speaker 2: was the world champion ping pong player of all time? Yes,
- 8:17Speaker 2: And Marty Supreme is the movie and that's going to
- 8:20Speaker 2: debut in Christmas Day, I think. But what was how good?
- 8:23Speaker 1: He is fabulous. It's an A plus movie. It's four stars,
- 8:26Speaker 1: it's everything. It was so great. So it's such exciting
- 8:30Speaker 1: filmmaking by Josh Safty and Challame is going to probably
- 8:34Speaker 1: get the Oscar for Best Actor. Was the was the
- 8:38Speaker 1: real guy a fast talker, like a Damon Runyon kind
- 8:41Speaker 1: of character.
- 8:41Speaker 2: It's a real Damon Runyon captain. And he talked like
- 8:43Speaker 2: this and he was yeah, that was him.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Well he's got it. He's Timothy Challome is twenty nine
- 8:50Speaker 1: years old, he'll be thirty in December. He has nailed
- 8:53Speaker 1: this thing down. And I'm telling you, it's so exciting
- 8:57Speaker 1: and everyone in the cast is great. I'll tell your
- 8:59Speaker 1: friend Sure plays his mother, which is really funny. She's terrific.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Santra Bernhardt's and oh, two of your friends are in it. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 1: John Catsimatidis.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And you know why John's in Terrific?
- 9:12Speaker 1: You know why? Did he know him too?
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yeah? In real life he was actually his landlord. He
- 9:16Speaker 2: owned the building where Marty's had.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Wow, they didn't tell us this last night because we
- 9:22Speaker 1: only saw the movie. But John Cassimatidas, who looks great
- 9:27Speaker 1: on screen by the way, he's he should be doing
- 9:30Speaker 1: character acting in every movie. Yeah, he's fabulous. And Kevin
- 9:34Speaker 1: O'Leary from Shark Tank, Yeah, has has a big part
- 9:37Speaker 1: in the movie, and he's terrific. He really holds his own.
- 9:41Speaker 1: He's really played a nasty guy. He's married in the
- 9:44Speaker 1: movie to Gwyneth Paltrow who plays sort of a has
- 9:48Speaker 1: been movie star, and he's the rich guy who married
- 9:51Speaker 1: her and now she can't get away from him. And
- 9:53Speaker 1: it's a subplot in the movie. It's very good. And
- 9:57Speaker 1: there's a new girl in there, who Odessa as i On,
- 10:01Speaker 1: who's going to get a nomination for Best Supporting after
- 10:04Speaker 1: she's terrific. Oh, so the movie is going to be spectacular.
- 10:07Speaker 1: But I'm so impressed that two knew him.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'll in fact, when we get off, I'll
- 10:10Speaker 2: send you some pictures of me and him, Marty Supreme,
- 10:13Speaker 2: his real name was Marty Reesman. And so you would say,
- 10:19Speaker 2: next year this could be one of the biggest films
- 10:20Speaker 2: of the year.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Yes, you know. Right now we have one battle after
- 10:24Speaker 1: another with Leonardo Dicaffrio on Sean Pan which is really
- 10:28Speaker 1: sort of on the fast track for the best picture,
- 10:31Speaker 1: but this one is going to give it a lot
- 10:32Speaker 1: of trouble. This we're going to have a real race
- 10:35Speaker 1: in February and March for the Oscars. Well, great, it's
- 10:38Speaker 1: going to be great.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Great stuff. We're out of time, but everybody go check
