- 0:01The mother advises us that we are generally not aware of the
- 0:04action of all the subtle forces and how they interact to cause
- 0:09circumstances that occur in the external world.
- 0:13She further notes that with awareness, many accidents could
- 0:17be avoided. This reminds us of an incident
- 0:20reported sometime back. It occurred in 1981.
- 0:26Two devotees were in the process of travelling across the USA,
- 0:30visiting various national parks. It was mid to late summer when
- 0:35they reached Yellowstone National Park.
- 0:38Yellowstone is noted not only for its geysers and other
- 0:42geological features, but also for the abundance of wildlife.
- 0:49The devotees were driving on one of the main roads in the park in
- 0:52a Dodge van. The driver had an intimation
- 0:56that something was going to happen and he was driving
- 1:00exceedingly slowly on the road in the near twilight conditions.
- 1:05A park Ranger came up behind the van and was clearly frustrated
- 1:09with how slowly the van was moving.
- 1:12After a few minutes, the park Ranger passed the van and speed
- 1:16by the driver remained extremely cautious.
- 1:21Not sure why, but feeling that there was something up ahead
- 1:24that would require immediate reaction.
- 1:28Suddenly, a massive bison ran into the roadway immediately in
- 1:33front of the van. The driver hit the brakes hard,
- 1:37and all kinds of things in the van went flying through the
- 1:40cabin. When the van stopped, there was
- 1:44an enormous bison right in front of the vehicle, within inches.
- 1:49Had the driver been moving at any faster speed, a tragic
- 1:53accident would clearly have occurred.
- 1:56The uncanny sense of an impending event saved everyone
- 2:00from the harm that would clearly have occurred in a collision
- 2:04with a fully mature adult Bull, Bison.
- 2:06Standing almost 6 feet tall and weighing likely close to 2000
- 2:12lbs, the devotees were shaken by the near miss.
- 2:17But we're grateful for what was so clearly a warning and an
- 2:22intimation that protected them from this accident that was
- 2:27waiting to happen. The exact mechanism that brought
- 2:31this subtle awareness could not be described by the
- 2:34participants. They attributed it to divine
- 2:37grace. The grace clearly acted and
- 2:41there was a subtle, vital awareness that had awakened in
- 2:44the driver. We can speculate that perhaps
- 2:48while driving in a park known for its wildlife, particularly
- 2:52bison herds, and the time of year and the time of day, the
- 2:57driver was somehow subtly alerted to the possibilities.
- 3:01But it goes beyond that simple explanation by the fact that the
- 3:06speed of the vehicle was far below the normal driving speeds
- 3:10and yet was exactly the speed that could be driven to avoid
- 3:16the collision. The mother speaks of other
- 3:19senses, and possibly some subtle sense had opened up to be
- 3:23receptive to what was moving in the world in that natural
- 3:27setting. At that time, there was clearly
- 3:31some type of premonition alerting them.
- 3:33The participants did not know why or how.
- 3:38We will likely never know the exact cause or action that
- 3:41created the situation. The awareness of the situation
- 3:45and the response to the situation we can only know that
- 3:50we are confronted with a clear example of an accident avoided.
