- 0:02Babylon. Have you ever wondered whether or not this
- 0:06Babylon that's spoken of in Revelation 17
- 0:10and 18, the mystery harlot woman who rides the Beast,
- 0:14who carries the cup of abominations that all the nations get
- 0:18drunk on— is this woman, this mystery Babylon harlot
- 0:23woman, is it literal or is it allegorical?
- 0:27Today we are going to look at Jeremiah chapter 50 and 51
- 0:31and see the amazing parallels between
- 0:35Jeremiah 50 and 51 as
- 0:38it connects to Revelation 17 and 18 where
- 0:42we see Babylon very prominently in Revelation
- 0:4717 and 18. Is it literal or
- 0:51is it allegorical? Listen in as we
- 0:55unpack this. Welcome to the Daily Audio
- 0:59Torah. Today is October 26th.
- 1:03Now let's continue our journey reading through the entire Bible
- 1:06in one year. This week we are reading from the New Living
- 1:10Translation for the Old Testament and for the
- 1:13New Testament.
- 1:18Numbers 29:26-40.
- 1:23On the 5th day of the festival, sacrifice 9 young bulls,
- 1:272 rams, and 14 1-year-old male lambs,
- 1:30all with no defects. Each of these offerings of bulls, rams,
- 1:34and lambs must be accompanied by its prescribed grain offering and
- 1:38liquid offering. You must also sacrifice a
- 1:42male goat as a sin offering in addition to the regular burnt
- 1:46offering with its accompanying grain offering
- 1:49and liquid offering.
- 1:52On the 6th day of the festival, sacrifice 8 young bulls,
- 1:562 rams, and 14 1-year-old male lambs
- 2:04with no defects. Each of these offerings of bulls,
- 2:08rams, and lambs must be accompanied by its prescribed grain offering
- 2:11and liquid offering. You must also sacrifice a
- 2:15male goat as a sin offering in addition to the regular burnt offering with its
- 2:19accompanying grain offering and liquid offering.
- 2:24On the 7th day of the festival, sacrifice 7 young bulls,
- 2:282 rams, and 14 1-year-old male lambs,
- 2:31all with no defects.
- 2:35Each of these offerings of bulls, rams, and lambs must be accompanied
- 2:39by its prescribed grain offering and liquid offering.
- 2:43You must also sacrifice one male goat as a sin offering in addition
- 2:47to the regular burnt offering with its accompanying grain offering
- 2:51and liquid offering. On the 8th day of the festival,
- 2:55proclaim another holy day. You must do no ordinary
- 2:59work on that day. You must present a
- 3:03burnt offering as a special gift, a pleasing aroma
- 3:07to the Lord. It will consist of 1 young bull, 1 ram, and 7
- 3:121-year-old male lambs, all with no defects.
- 3:16Each of these offerings must be accompanied by its prescribed grain
- 3:19offering and liquid offering. You must also sacrifice
- 3:231 male goat as a sin offering in addition
- 3:27to the regular burnt offering with this— with its accompanying grain
- 3:31offering and liquid offering. You must present these offerings
- 3:35to the Lord at your annual festivals. These are in addition
- 3:39to the sacrifice sacrifices and offerings you present in connection with vows
- 3:43or as voluntary offerings: burnt offerings, grain offerings,
- 3:47liquid offerings, or peace offerings.
- 3:51So Moses gave all these instructions to the people of Israel as
- 3:55the Lord had commanded him.
- 3:58Jeremiah 49:23-50:46.
- 4:05This message was given Concerning Damascus.
- 4:09This is what the Lord says: The towns of Hamath
- 4:12and Arpad are struck with fear, for they have heard the news
- 4:15of their destruction. Their hearts are troubled like a wild
- 4:19sea in a raging storm. Damascus has become feeble,
- 4:24and all her people turn to flee. Fear,
- 4:27anguish, and pain have gripped her as they do a woman
- 4:31giving birth. That famous city, a city of joy,
- 4:34will be forsaken. Her young men will fall in the streets
- 4:38and die; her warriors will all be killed, says the
- 4:42Lord Almighty. And I will start a fire at the edge of Damascus that
- 4:46will burn up the palaces of Ben-Hadad.
- 4:49This message was given concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of
- 4:53Hazor, which were attacked by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.
- 4:58This is what the Lord says: Advance against Kedar; blot
- 5:02out the warriors from the east. Their flocks and tents will be captured,
- 5:07and their household goods and camels will be taken away.
- 5:10Everywhere shouts of panic will be heard: We are terrorized
- 5:14at every turn! Flee for your lives! says the Lord.
- 5:18Hide yourselves in deep caves, you people of Hazor, for King Nebuchadnezzar
- 5:24of Babylon has plotted against you and is preparing to destroy you.
- 5:28Go up and attack those self-sufficient nomadic tribes,
- 5:31says the Lord. They live alone in the desert without
- 5:35walls or gates. Their camels and cattle will all be yours.
- 5:39I will scatter to the winds these people who live in distant places.
- 5:43I will bring calamity upon them from every direction,
- 5:46says the Lord. Hazor will be inhabited by jackals
- 5:50and it will be desolate forever. No one will live there
- 5:54anymore. This message concerning Elam
- 5:58came to the prophet Jeremiah from the Lord at the beginning of
- 6:01the reign of King King Zedekiah of Judah. This is what the Lord
- 6:05Almighty says: I will destroy the archers of Elam,
- 6:09the best of their marksmen. I will bring enemies from all
- 6:12directions, and I will scatter the people of Elam to the four
- 6:16winds. They will be exiled to countries around the world.
- 6:20I myself will go with Elam's enemies to shatter it.
- 6:24My fierce anger will bring great disaster upon the people of
- 6:28Elam, says the Lord. Their enemies will chase
- 6:32them with the sword until I have destroyed them completely.
- 6:36I will set my throne in Elam, says the Lord, and I
- 6:39will destroy its kings and princes. But in the latter
- 6:43days I will restore the fortunes of Elam.
- 6:49The Lord gave Jeremiah the prophet this message concerning
- 6:53Babylon and the land of the Babylonians.
- 6:59This is what the Lord says: Tell the whole world and keep
- 7:02nothing back. Raise a signal flag so everyone will know
- 7:06that Babylon will fall. Her images and idols will be shattered.
- 7:10Her gods, Bel and Marduk, will be utterly disgraced.
- 7:15For a nation will attack her from the north and bring such destruction
- 7:19that no one will live in her again. Everything will be
- 7:24gone. Both people and animals will flee.
- 7:27Then the people of Israel and Judah will join
- 7:31together, says the Lord, weeping and
- 7:36seeking the Lord their God. They will ask the way to Jerusalem
- 7:40and will start back home again. They will bind themselves
- 7:43to the Lord with an external covenant that will never again be
- 7:48broken. My people have been lost
- 7:52Sheep! Their shepherds have led them astray and turned
- 7:57them loose in the mountains. They have lost their way and cannot remember
- 8:01how to get back to the fold. All who found them
- 8:04devoured them. Their enemies said, We are allowed to attack them
- 8:08freely, for they have sinned against the LORD, their place of rest,
- 8:12the hope of their ancestors. But now flee from Babylon,
- 8:17leave the land of the Babylonians! Lead my people home
- 8:21again, for look, I am raising up an army of great nations from
- 8:25the north. I will bring them against Babylon to attack her, and she
- 8:29will be captured. The enemy's arrows will go straight
- 8:33to the mark. They will not miss. Babylonia will be
- 8:37plundered until the attackers are glutted with plunder, says the Lord.
- 8:42You rejoice and are glad, you plunderers of my
- 8:46chosen people. You frisk about like a calf in a meadow and
- 8:49neigh like a stallion, but your homeland will be overwhelmed
- 8:54with shame and disgrace. You will become the least
- 8:58of nations, a wilderness, a dry and desolate land.
- 9:02Because of the Lord's anger, Babylon will become a deserted
- 9:05wasteland. All who pass by will be horrified
- 9:09and will gasp at the destruction they see there.
- 9:12Yes, Prepare to attack Babylon, all you nations
- 9:16round about! Let your archers shoot at her.
- 9:20Spare no arrows, for she has sinned against the
- 9:23Lord. Shout against her from every side!
- 9:27Look, she surrenders! Her walls have fallen!
- 9:31The Lord has taken vengeance, so do not spare her.
- 9:35Do to her as she has done to others.
- 9:38Lead from Babylon all those who plant Send all the
- 9:42harvesters away. Let the captives escape the
- 9:46sword of the enemy and rush back to their own lands.
- 9:49The Israelites are like sheep that have been scattered by lions.
- 9:53First, the king of Assyria ate them up. Then King
- 9:58Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon cracked their bones.
- 10:02Therefore, the Lord Almighty, the Lord of Israel,
- 10:06says, now I will punish the king of Babylon and
- 10:09his land just as I punished the king of Assyria. And I
- 10:13will bring Israel home again to her own land,
- 10:16to feed in the fields of Carmel and Bashan,
- 10:20and to be satisfied once more on the hill country of Ephraim
- 10:23and Gilead. In those days, says the Lord,
- 10:27no sin will be found in Israel or in Judah, for I will
- 10:31forgive the remnant I preserve. Go up, my warriors,
- 10:35against the land of Merathaim and against the people of Pekod,
- 10:39Yes, march against Babylon, the land of rebels,
- 10:42a land that I will judge. Pursue, kill, and completely
- 10:46destroy them, as I have commanded you, says the Lord. Let the battle
- 10:50cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction!
- 10:55Babylon, the mightiest hammer in all the earth,
- 10:58lies broken and shattered.
- 11:01Babylon is desolate among the nations. Listen,
- 11:04Babylon, for I have set a trap for you. You are caught!
- 11:08For you have fought against the Lord. The Lord has opened
- 11:12his armory and brought out weapons to vent his fury against his enemies.
- 11:16The terror that falls upon the Babylonians will be the work
- 11:20of the Sovereign Lord Almighty. Yes, come against her from
- 11:24distant lands, break open her granaries, crush her
- 11:27walls and houses into heaps of rubble, destroy her
- 11:31completely and leave nothing.
- 11:35Even destroy her cattle. It will be terrible for them
- 11:38to slaughter them all, for the time has come
- 11:42for Babylon to be devastated. Listen to the people who
- 11:46have escaped from Babylon as they declare in Jerusalem how
- 11:49the Lord our God has taken vengeance against those who
- 11:53destroyed his temple. Send out a call for archers
- 11:57to come to Babylon. Surround the city. So none can
- 12:01escape. Do to her as she has done to others,
- 12:05for she has defied the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.
- 12:09Her young men will fall in the streets and die. Her warriors will all
- 12:13be killed, says the Lord. See,
- 12:17I am your enemy, O proud people, says the Lord, the Lord
- 12:21Almighty. Your day of reckoning has arrived. O land
- 12:25of pride, you will stumble and fall, and no one will raise you up.
- 12:29For I will light a fire in the cities of Babylon that will burn
- 12:32everything around them. And now the Lord
- 12:35Almighty says this: The people of Israel and Judah have
- 12:39been wronged. Their captors hold them and refuse
- 12:43to let them go. But the one who redeems them is strong.
- 12:47His name is the Lord Almighty. He will defend
- 12:51them and give them rest again in Israel. But the people of Babylon,
- 12:56there will be no rest for them. The sword of destruction
- 13:00will strike the Babylonians, says the Lord. It will
- 13:04strike the people of Babylon, her princes and wise men too.
- 13:08And when it strikes her wise counselors, they will become fools.
- 13:12When it strikes her mightiest warriors, panic will seize them.
- 13:16When it strikes her horses and chariots, her allies from other
- 13:19lands will become as weak as women. When it strikes
- 13:24her treasures, They all will be plundered. It will even strike her
- 13:28water supply, causing it to dry up. And why?
- 13:32Because the whole land is filled with idols,
- 13:36and the people are madly in love with them. Soon this
- 13:40city of Babylon will be inhabited
- 13:44by ostriches and jackals. It will be
- 13:47a home for the wild animals of the desert.
- 13:51Never again will people live there. It will lie desolate forever.
- 13:56I will destroy it just as I destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah and
- 14:00their neighboring towns, says the Lord. No one will live there anymore.
- 14:05Look, a great army is marching from the north.
- 14:09A great nation and many kings are rising against you from far-off lands.
- 14:14They are fully armed for slaughter. They are cruel and show no
- 14:18mercy. As they ride forward, the noise of their
- 14:22army is like a roaring sea. They are marching in battle
- 14:25formation to destroy you, Babylon. The king of
- 14:29Babylon has received reports about the enemy, and he is weak
- 14:33with fright. Fear and pain have gripped him like that of a
- 14:36woman about to give birth. I will come like a lion
- 14:40from the thickets of the Jordan, leaping on the sheep in the pasture.
- 14:46I will chase Babylon from its land, and I will appoint the
- 14:50leader of my choice. For who is like me, and who can challenge me?
- 14:54What ruler can oppose my will? Listen to the Lord's
- 14:58plans against Babylon and the land of the Babylonians.
- 15:02Even little children will be dragged off, and their homes will
- 15:05be empty. The earth will shake with the noise
- 15:09of Babylon's fall, and her cry of despair will be
- 15:14heard around the world.
- 15:20Titus 1:1-16.
- 15:24This letter is from Paul, a slave of God and
- 15:27an apostle of Jesus Christ.
- 15:31I have been sent to bring faith to those God has chosen
- 15:35and to teach them to know the truth that shows them how to live
- 15:38godly lives. This truth gives them the confidence
- 15:43of eternal life, which God promised them before the world began,
- 15:47and he cannot lie. And now, at the right time, he has revealed
- 15:51this good news, and we announce it to everyone. It is by the command
- 15:56of God our Savior that I have been trusted to do this work for
- 15:59him. This letter is written to Titus, my true
- 16:03child in the faith that we share. May God the Father
- 16:06and Christ Jesus our Savior give you grace, and peace.
- 16:11I left you on the island of Crete so you could complete our work
- 16:15there and appoint elders in each town as I instructed you.
- 16:19An elder must be well thought of for his good life.
- 16:22He must be faithful to his wife and his children must be
- 16:27believers who are not wild or rebellious. An elder must
- 16:31live a blameless life because he is God's minister. He must not
- 16:35be arrogant or quick-tempered. He must not be a heavy drinker,
- 16:39violent, or greedy for money. He must enjoy having
- 16:43guests in his home and must love all that is good.
- 16:47He must live wisely and be fair. He must live a
- 16:51devout and disciplined life. He must have a strong and
- 16:55steadfast belief in the trustworthy message he was taught.
- 16:59Then he will be able to encourage others with right teaching
- 17:03and show those who oppose it where they are wrong.
- 17:06But there are many who rebel against right teaching. They engage
- 17:11in useless talk and deceive people. This is especially
- 17:15true of those who insist on circumcision for salvation.
- 17:19They must be silenced. By their wrong teaching, they have already turned
- 17:24whole families away from the truth. Such teachers
- 17:28only want your money. One of their own men, a prophet
- 17:32from Crete, has said about them, the people of Crete are all liars.
- 17:35They are cruel animals and lazy gluttons. This is true,
- 17:39so rebuke them as sternly as necessary to make them
- 17:43strong in the faith. They must stop listening to Jewish myths
- 17:47and the commands of people who have turned their backs on the truth.
- 17:52Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure, but nothing
- 17:56is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving because
- 18:00their minds and consciences are defiled.
- 18:04Such people claim they know God, but they deny Him by
- 18:08the way they live. They are despicable and disobedient,
- 18:12worthless for doing anything good.
- 18:18Psalm 97:1-98:9.
- 18:23The Lord is King! Let the earth rejoice; let
- 18:28the farthest islands be glad! Clouds and darkness surround Him; Righteousness
- 18:32and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes
- 18:36before Him and burns up all His foes.
- 18:40His lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and
- 18:44trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
- 18:48before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens declare His
- 18:52righteousness. Every nation sees His glory.
- 18:56Those who worship idols are disgraced. All who
- 18:59brag about their worthless gods. For every god must
- 19:03bow to him. Jerusalem has heard and rejoiced,
- 19:07and all the cities of Judah are glad because
- 19:10of your justice, Lord. For you, O Lord,
- 19:13are most high over all the earth. You are exalted far
- 19:17above all gods. You who love the Lord hate
- 19:21evil. He protects the lives of his godly people
- 19:25and rescues them from the power of the wicked.
- 19:28Light shines on the godly, and joy on those
- 19:32who do right. May all who are godly be happy in
- 19:36the Lord and praise his holy name. Sing a
- 19:40new song to the Lord, for he has done wonderful deeds.
- 19:43He has won a mighty victory by his power and
- 19:46holiness. The Lord has announced his victory and has
- 19:50revealed his righteousness to every nation. He has remembered
- 19:55his promise to love and be faithful to Israel. The whole earth
- 19:59has seen the salvation of our God. Shout to the Lord, all the earth!
- 20:03Break out in praise and sing for joy! Sing your praise
- 20:07to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and melodious
- 20:11song, with trumpets and the sound of the ram's horn. Make a joyful
- 20:16symphony before the Lord, the King! Let the sea and everything
- 20:20in it shout his praise! Let the earth and all living things
- 20:24join in! Let the rivers clap their hands in glee!
- 20:29Let the hills sing out their songs of joy before the Lord!
- 20:32For the Lord is coming to judge the earth. He will judge
- 20:36the world with justice and the nations with fairness.
- 20:44Proverbs 26:13-16.
- 20:48The lazy person is full of excuses, saying, I can't go outside because there
- 20:52might be a lion lion on the road. Yes,
- 20:56I'm sure there's a lion out there. As a door turns back and
- 21:00forth on its hinges, so the lazy person turns over in bed.
- 21:05Some people are so lazy that they won't lift a finger to feed themselves.
- 21:10Lazy people consider themselves smarter than 7 wise counselors.
- 21:16I want to speak to you today from our reading from Jeremiah chapter
- 21:2050. And tomorrow we're going to be reading from Jeremiah chapter
- 21:2451, and these 2 chapters are a prophetic
- 21:30judgment against Babylon.
- 21:35And so the $64 million question is, who or
- 21:38what is Babylon? Is Babylon
- 21:42Rome? Is it the Roman Catholic Church? Is it
- 21:46the United States of America? Is it the global Babylonian
- 21:51system with many tentacles like an octopus,
- 21:55or is it literally a city?
- 22:00So we're going to take a look at this and we're going
- 22:04to compare Jeremiah chapter 50 and 51.
- 22:07There's many, many parallels between those 2 chapters
- 22:11in Jeremiah and Revelation chapter
- 22:1517 and 18.
- 22:18So in Jeremiah chapter 50, the similarities— let
- 22:22me just run through the list quickly. The name of the city is the same
- 22:26in Jeremiah chapter 50, verse 1, and in Revelation 17,
- 22:30verse 5. Babylon's punishment is deserved.
- 22:35Babylon's desolation is final, and it becomes
- 22:39uninhabitable by men. An outcry is
- 22:42heard among the nations. The kings, the merchants, and the shipmasters.
- 22:47God's people are commanded to flee and to depart from Babylon
- 22:51both in Jeremiah 51 and in Revelation 18.
- 22:55Babylon is associated with a cup in Jeremiah
- 22:5951:7 and Revelation 17 and 18.
- 23:03Babylon intoxicates all the nations of the earth,
- 23:07Jeremiah 51:7 and Revelation 17:2.
- 23:11Babylon's destruction will be sudden.
- 23:14In Jeremiah 51 and in Revelation 18,
- 23:18Babylon is said to dwell on many waters.
- 23:22That's in Jeremiah 51:13 and Revelation 17:1.
- 23:26Babylon will be destroyed by fire.
- 23:29That's in Jeremiah 51:30 and in Revelation 17.
- 23:33Heaven rejoices over Babylon's judgment from
- 23:37God. That's in Jeremiah 51:48 and also
- 23:42in Revelation 18:20. Babylon's persecution of the saints
- 23:47and destruction is illustrated by a stone
- 23:51sinking into the Euphrates or the sea,
- 23:55and no stone from Babylon will be used to
- 23:59rebuild. So let's just walk through
- 24:03this table. The name of the city is the same. Jeremiah chapter
- 24:0750, verse 1, the word which the Lord spoke concerning Babylon,
- 24:11the land of the Chaldeans, through Jeremiah the prophet. And the
- 24:14comparison in Revelation 17, verse 5,
- 24:17and on her forehead a name was written, a mystery,
- 24:21Babylon the Great, the mother of harlots and
- 24:25of the abominations of the earth.
- 24:29Another characteristic similarity Babylon's punishment
- 24:33is deserved. In Jeremiah 50:29,
- 24:37Summon many against Babylon, all those who
- 24:41bend the knee, and camp against her on
- 24:44every side. Let there be no escape. Repay her
- 24:48according to her work, according to all that she
- 24:51has done, so do to her. For she has become arrogant
- 24:56against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel. And in
- 25:00Revelation 18:6, pay her back even as she
- 25:04has paid and give her back to her double according to her deeds.
- 25:08In the cup which she has mixed, mix twice
- 25:11as much for her. Another similarity, Babylon's desolation
- 25:15is final. She will become uninhabitable by
- 25:19men. Jeremiah 50:39-40,
- 25:24therefore the desert creatures will live there along with the jackals.
- 25:27The ostriches also will live in it and it will never again
- 25:31be inhabited or dwelt in from generation to generation,
- 25:35as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah with its neighbors,
- 25:39declares the Lord. No man will live there, nor will
- 25:43any son of man reside in it.
- 25:48And in Jeremiah 51:62, and you say,
- 25:52you, O Lord, have promised concerning this place to cut
- 25:56it off. So that there will be nothing dwelling in
- 25:59it, whether man or beast. And then in Revelation chapter
- 26:0318, verse 2, the, the parallel: And he cried
- 26:08out with a mighty voice, saying, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the Great!
- 26:12She has become a dwelling place of demons and a prison
- 26:16of every unclean spirit and a prison of every unclean
- 26:20and hateful bird. There is an outcry heard
- 26:24among the nations from the kings, the merchants, and the shipmasters.
- 26:29And in Jeremiah chapter 50, verse 46, at the shout,
- 26:32Babylon has been seized, the earth is shaken,
- 26:37and an outcry is heard among the nations.
- 26:41And in Revelation chapter 18, verse 9,
- 26:45and the kings of the earth who committed acts of immorality and lived
- 26:49sensuously with her, will weep and lament over her
- 26:53when they see the smoke of her burning, standing at a distance
- 26:57because of the fear of her torment, saying, woe,
- 27:01woe, the great city Babylon,
- 27:05the strong city! For in one hour your
- 27:09judgment has come.
- 27:12Another similarity or parallel between Jeremiah
- 27:1650 and 51 to Revelation 17 and 18.
- 27:20God's people are commanded to flee from Babylon.
- 27:24Jeremiah 51:6, flee from the midst of
- 27:28Babylon, and each of you save his life. Do not be destroyed
- 27:33in her punishment, for this is the Lord's time of vengeance.
- 27:37He is going to render recompense to her. And again in Jeremiah
- 27:4151:45, come forth from her, my people,
- 27:45And each of you save yourselves from the fierce anger of the
- 27:49Lord. Jeremiah 51:50, you who have escaped the
- 27:53sword, depart, do not stay. Remember the
- 27:57Lord from afar and let Jerusalem come to your mind.
- 28:00And here's the parallel, the similarity. Revelation 18:4,
- 28:05I heard another voice from heaven saying, come out of her,
- 28:08my people, so that you will not participate in her sins
- 28:12and receive of her plagues.
- 28:15Babylon is associated with a cup. Jeremiah 51:7,
- 28:20Babylon has a golden cup in the hand of the Lord intoxicating
- 28:24all the earth. The nations have drunk of her wine,
- 28:28therefore the nations are going mad. And here's the parallel,
- 28:32Revelation 17:3-4, and he
- 28:35carried me away in the spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a
- 28:39woman sitting on a scarlet beast full of blasphemous
- 28:44names, having 7 heads and 10 horns. The woman
- 28:48was clothed in purple and scarlet and adorned with gold and
- 28:51precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full
- 28:56of abominations and of unclean things in her immorality.
- 29:01Babylon intoxicates all the nations of
- 29:05the earth. Jeremiah 51:7. Babylon has been a
- 29:09golden cup in the hand of the Lord, intoxicating all
- 29:12the earth. The nations have drunk of her wine.
- 29:16Therefore, the nations are going mad. And the parallel in
- 29:21Revelation chapter 17, verse 2, with whom the kings
- 29:24of the earth committed acts of immorality, and those who
- 29:28dwell on the earth were made drunk with the wine
- 29:32of her immorality.
- 29:35Babylon's destruction will be sudden.
- 29:38In Jeremiah 51:8, suddenly Babylon has
- 29:42fallen and been broken. Wail over her, bring balm
- 29:46for her pain, perhaps she may be healed.
- 29:49And the parallel, Revelation 18:8-10,
- 29:54for this reason, in one day her plagues will come—
- 29:58pestilence and mourning and famine— and she will be burned
- 30:02up with fire. For the Lord God who judges her is strong.
- 30:06Another characteristic similarity between Jeremiah
- 30:1150 and 51 as it parallels his Revelation 17
- 30:15and 18: Babylon is said to dwell on many waters.
- 30:20Jeremiah 51:13: O you who dwell by many
- 30:24waters, abundant in treasures, your end has
- 30:28come. The measure of your end. And the parallel,
- 30:31Revelation 17:1. Then one of the 7
- 30:35angels who had the 7 bowls came and spoke with me, saying,
- 30:38come here, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who
- 30:43sits on many waters. Babylon will be destroyed
- 30:47by fire. Jeremiah 51:30.
- 30:51The mighty men of Babylon have ceased fighting. They stay in the
- 30:55strongholds. Their strength is exhausted. They are becoming like women.
- 30:59Their dwelling places are set on fire. The bars
- 31:03of her gates are broken. Jeremiah 51:58,
- 31:08thus says the Lord of hosts, the broad wall of Babylon will be completely
- 31:12razed and her high gates will be set
- 31:15on fire, so the peoples will toil for nothing.
- 31:19And here's the parallel in Revelation 17:16,
- 31:23and the 10 horns which you saw and the beast These
- 31:26will hate the harlot and will make her desolate
- 31:30and naked and will eat her flesh and will burn her
- 31:33up with fire. And also Revelation 18:8,
- 31:38for this reason, in one day her plagues will come,
- 31:41pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with
- 31:45fire. Heaven rejoices over Babylon's
- 31:50judgment from God. Jeremiah 51:48.
- 31:54Then heaven and earth and all that is in them will shout for
- 31:58joy over Babylon, for the destroyers will come to her from the
- 32:02north, declares the Lord. And the parallel is Revelation
- 32:0618:20. Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you
- 32:10saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced
- 32:14judgment for you against her.
- 32:17Babylon persecutes the saints. Jeremiah 51:49,
- 32:22indeed Babylon is to fall for the slain of Israel,
- 32:26as also for Babylon the slain of all the earth have
- 32:30fallen. And the parallel passage, Revelation 17:6,
- 32:34and I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints and with the
- 32:37blood of the witnesses of Jesus.
- 32:41When I saw her, I wondered greatly.
- 32:45The destruction is illustrated by a stone sinking
- 32:49into the Euphrates or the sea in Jeremiah 51:63-64.
- 32:55And as soon as you finish reading this scroll, you will tie a stone
- 32:59to it and throw it into the middle of the Euphrates and say, just so
- 33:03shall Babylon sink down and not rise again because
- 33:07of the calamity that I am going to bring upon her, and they
- 33:11will become exhausted.
- 33:13Revelation 18:21 is the parallel passage.
- 33:18Then a strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw
- 33:21it into the sea, saying, so will Babylon, the great city,
- 33:25be thrown down with violence and will not be found any longer.
- 33:33So now the question is,
- 33:37has this been fulfilled yet, or is it yet to be fulfilled?
- 33:42Well, when we look in history
- 33:46at ancient Babylon's historic fall,
- 33:50we find that Persia came in and conquered Babylon.
- 33:55And on the night that Belshazzar, the king of Babylon, was slain
- 34:00and the city came under the control of Darius the Mede from
- 34:03Persia, it fell politically but not physically. There was
- 34:07no large-scale attack upon the city. In fact, many within
- 34:11the city were not even aware for quite some time afterwards
- 34:14that the city had been taken. The city was taken,
- 34:18Jerusalem— Babylon, by diverting the waters
- 34:22of the Euphrates River. This allowed armed forces
- 34:25to wade under her defenses without much of a fight.
- 34:29And so rather than being physically overthrown,
- 34:34As it's been prophesied in Jeremiah 50 and 51,
- 34:37the city and, and its occupants were treated with considerable
- 34:42respect. Babylon generally flourished under
- 34:46the Persians, although there is record of a revolt
- 34:49against Xerxes which resulted in a harsh response.
- 34:53So no,
- 34:56the total complete utter destruction
- 35:00of Babylon that is spoken of in Jeremiah chapter 50 and
- 35:0451, and also in Revelation 17 and 18,
- 35:08has not yet been fulfilled. So again,
- 35:13we come back to the question, who or what is Babylon?
- 35:17And some people think it's just a metaphor,
- 35:21it's symbolic, maybe it represents the the
- 35:24world global system, the Antichrist system.
- 35:28It's like an octopus with many tentacles.
- 35:31Some would say it's New York City or it's the Vatican or
- 35:35it's the Roman Catholic Church or it's the United States of America.
- 35:39But could it be? It's mentioned
- 35:43several times in both of these, in Jeremiah and also in Revelation.
- 35:47Babylon is a city.
- 35:50It's a city. It's not a nation. It's not a territory. It's a city.
- 35:55There was an ancient city called Babylon, and that
- 35:58ancient city was just south of Baghdad in what is
- 36:02now the modern-day nation of Iraq.
- 36:05And Saddam Hussein, when he was in power before
- 36:09he fell, he actually tried to begin to reconstruct and to
- 36:13rebuild Babylon, but he was never able to finish or complete it.
- 36:17He put up a museum there, but then after he fell, the museum
- 36:21was plundered. And so, you know,
- 36:24is it possible that there's going to be a
- 36:29reconstructed Babylon? Now,
- 36:35think about it. If you lived in,
- 36:38in the 1800s or the 1700s, the 1600s,
- 36:43If you lived any time before 1948 and you were reading your Bible
- 36:47and you read all these things about Israel and Jerusalem and the greening
- 36:50of Israel and the return of the Jews to the land of Israel,
- 36:54it would be almost unbelievable. The nation was
- 36:59no more. It was totally desolate. Mark Twain
- 37:04went and visited Israel, and it was just completely
- 37:08desolate. Hardly anybody lived there. It was just like a deserted,
- 37:13desolate place. And yet now Israel is
- 37:18thriving. It's growing. It's powerful. It's strong.
- 37:21It's on the cutting edge for agriculture
- 37:24and for high tech.
- 37:28And so, but if you had read your Bible before
- 37:32May of 1948, you would have thought this is just impossible.
- 37:37There is no Jerusalem. There is no Israel.
- 37:40And now on the other side of May of 1948,
- 37:44we can say, wow, look at how God has fulfilled
- 37:47prophecy. So it's possible that
- 37:51there will be a city called Babylon in
- 37:55the future, and it hasn't been constructed yet.
- 37:59And that all these prophecies about Babylon that we
- 38:03see in Jeremiah 50 and 51, that we also see in Revelation
- 38:0717 18, that this future prophetic,
- 38:14uh, city that is the antithesis of
- 38:19Jerusalem, it embodies everything of the Antichrist
- 38:23world system. It's, it's, um,
- 38:26crooked, it's corrupt, it's evil, it's full of idolatry,
- 38:31it's full of harlotry, it's You
- 38:34know, it's a city that perhaps doesn't yet exist but will be
- 38:38rebuilt and then be destroyed, never to be rebuilt
- 38:43again. This is one possibility, and,
- 38:46um, it's just something to consider.
- 38:50It's a thought, something to reflect on, to pray
- 38:54about, that perhaps there will be a
- 38:58rebuilt city in the region of Iraq, perhaps in
- 39:02the very same spot where the ancient city of Babylon once existed.
- 39:09So something to think about. Um,
- 39:13and as we continue in Jeremiah chapter 51 tomorrow,
- 39:16um, you can kind of get this bigger picture that Jeremiah 50 and
- 39:2051 have a lot of parallels.
- 39:25And similarities to Revelation 17 and 18.
- 39:31And to me, Babylon is like
- 39:35the anti— the opposite of Jerusalem.
- 39:39Jerusalem is the city of the great king. Jerusalem is going
- 39:44to be the everlasting and eternal capital where Jesus
- 39:48Christ rules and reigns forever and ever and ever. And so
- 39:52it makes sense to me that the enemy, Satan,
- 39:56wants to have his own city where he can rule
- 39:59and reign from and where he can operate from, and that
- 40:03that city is called Babylon.
- 40:07And when you think about the Tower of Babel and the confusion of languages,
- 40:11Babel, when you look at that word in the Hebrew, it actually
- 40:15means confusion or mixture. And that's how
- 40:19the enemy operates. He wants to bring confusion.
- 40:22He wants to bring mixture. He wants to blur the
- 40:25lines and blur the boundaries. And that's
- 40:29one way how he operates.
- 40:33Okay, that's all I have for today. Have a blessed day, and we'll see
- 40:37you tomorrow. Shalom.
- 40:44Adonai,
- 40:49we wish America.
- 40:57Yeah, yeah,
- 41:00Adonai,
- 41:05another We
- 41:11connect.
- 41:42The Aaronic Blessing from Numbers chapter 6,
- 41:4524 to 26.
- 41:49Adonai bless you and keep you. Adonai make
- 41:53his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.
- 41:57Adonai lift up his countenance upon you and give
- 42:01you peace.
