- 0:35friends. It is a wonderful wonderful day
- 0:38to celebrate that God has reigned Victorious over sin and
- 0:44death, so that you and I can be drawn And into a life close to
- 0:51him forever and ever Harvin, it's the best happy Easter.

- 1:01with those. You love the most and that
- 1:03you've got to celebrate, just how loved you.
- 1:10But we didn't come here to talk about Easter.
- 1:13We came here to listen to God's word, all about this wonderful
- 1:18event. so join me, as we finish off the Book of Luke reading
- 1:22together, the Final Chapter, Luke 24,
- 1:36But very early on Sunday morning, the women went to the
- 1:39tomb, taking the spices they had prepared, they found that the
- 1:43stone had been rolled away from the entrance so they went in but
- 1:48they didn't find the body of the Lord Jesus as I stood there,
- 1:52puzzled two men suddenly appeared to them clothes in
- 1:56dazzling. Robes the women were terrified
- 1:59and bowed with their faces to the ground.
- 2:02Then the men asked, why are you looking at?
- 2:05Among the dead for someone who was alive.
- 2:08He isn't here. He is risen from the dead.
- 2:12Remember what he told you back in Galilee that the son of man
- 2:16must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified
- 2:20and that he would rise again on the third day.
- 2:24Then they remembered that he had said this.
- 2:27So, they're rushed back from the tomb to tell his eleven
- 2:30disciples and everyone else. What had happened?
- 2:33It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary, the mother of James, and
- 2:38several other women who told the apostles, what had happened, but
- 2:41the story sounded like nonsense to the men.
- 2:45So they didn't believe it. However, Peter jumped up and ran
- 2:49to the tomb to look stooping. He peered in and saw the EMT
- 2:54linen, wrappings. Then he went home again,
- 2:58wondering what had happened. That same day, two of Jesus
- 3:03followers, were walking to the Village of Emmaus, seven miles
- 3:06from Jerusalem as they walked along.
- 3:09They were talking about everything that had happened as
- 3:12they talked and discussed these things.
- 3:14Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them, but God
- 3:19kept them from recognizing him. He asked them, what are you
- 3:23discussing? So intently, as you walk along,
- 3:26they stopped short sadness, written across their faces, then
- 3:31one of them. Cleopas replied.
- 3:33You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn't heard about
- 3:37all the things that have happened here the last few days.
- 3:41What things? Jesus asked the things that
- 3:44happened to Jesus The Man from Nazareth.
- 3:47They said he was a prophet who did wonderful Miracles and he
- 3:52was a mighty teacher in the eyes of God and all the people, but
- 3:56our leading priests and other religious leaders handed him
- 3:59over to be condemned to death. And they crucified him.
- 4:04We had hoped. He was the Messiah.
- 4:06Who would come to rescue his rail.
- 4:08This all happened three days ago.
- 4:11Then some women from our group of his followers, were at his
- 4:14tomb early this morning and they came back with an amazing
- 4:18report. They said his body was missing
- 4:22and they had seen Angels, who told them Jesus is Alive, some
- 4:28of our men ran out to sea and sure enough.
- 4:31His body was gone. Just as the women had said, then
- 4:35Jesus said to them, you foolish people, you find it so hard to
- 4:40believe all the Prophets wrote in the scriptures, wasn't a
- 4:44clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all
- 4:46these things before entering his glory.
- 4:50Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the
- 4:53prophets explaining from all the scriptures, the things
- 4:56concerning himself. By this time, they were nearing
- 5:00Emmaus, and the end of their Journey.
- 5:02Jesus acted as if he were going on, but they begged him.
- 5:07Stay the night with us since it is getting late.
- 5:10So he went home with them and they sat down to eat, he took
- 5:14the bread and blessed it, then he broke it and gave it to them.
- 5:19Suddenly their eyes were opened and they recognized him.
- 5:23And at that moment, he disappeared.
- 5:27They said to each other, didn't our hearts burn within us as he
- 5:31talked with us on the road and explained the scriptures to us.
- 5:36And within the hour, they were on their way back to Jerusalem.
- 5:40There they found the eleven disciples and the others who had
- 5:42gathered with them. Who said the Lord has really
- 5:46risen. He appeared to Peter Then the
- 5:50two from Emmaus told, their story of how Jesus had appeared
- 5:53to them as they were walking along the road and how they
- 5:56recognized him. As he was breaking the bread.
- 5:59And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was
- 6:03suddenly standing there among them peace.
- 6:06Be with you. He said, but the whole group was
- 6:09startled and frightened thinking they were seeing a ghost.
- 6:13Why are you frightened? He asked, why are your hearts
- 6:16filled with doubt? Look at my hands.
- 6:19Look at my feet. You can see that it's really me
- 6:24touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost because ghosts don't
- 6:27have bodies. As you see that.
- 6:29I do as he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet.
- 6:35Still they stood there in disbelief filled with joy and
- 6:40wonder then he asked them. Do you have anything here to
- 6:44eat? They gave him a piece of broiled
- 6:47fish and he ate it as they watched.
- 6:49Then he said, when I was with you before I told you that
- 6:54everything written about me in the law of Moses and the
- 6:57prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.
- 6:59Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures and he
- 7:05said, yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would
- 7:09suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day.
- 7:14It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in
- 7:19the He of his name to all the nations.
- 7:22Beginning in Jerusalem, there is forgiveness of sins for all who
- 7:27repent, you are witnesses of all these things.
- 7:31And now I will send the Holy Spirit just as my father
- 7:35promised, but stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes
- 7:40and fills you with power from heaven.
- 7:43And Jesus led them to Bethany and lifted His Hands to Heaven.
- 7:48He blessed them while he was blessing them.
- 7:51He left them and was taken up to heaven.
- 7:55So they worshiped him and then returned to Jerusalem, filled
- 7:59with great joy and they spent all of their time in the temple.
- 8:04Praising God. You are risen, Jesus, you have
- 8:20defeated death, you have fulfilled, everything that God
- 8:24revealed to us through the prophets of long ago.
- 8:31And you did this because you love us and you want to restore
- 8:36us back to you. Thank you, Father, for giving us
- 8:42Jesus. Thank you.
- 8:43Jesus for coming and doing what you did for us.
- 8:47And thank you. Holy Spirit for coming and
- 8:50dwelling in us, our loving and wonderful.
- 8:54God, we just worship you. We praise you.
- 8:59Our Risen Lord. Thank you for Easter.
- 9:10We are humbled and overjoyed and we love you and it's in your
- 9:15name that we pray. Amen.
