- 0:59Speaker 4: Smith at this with me.
- 1:00Speaker 3: What's going on, dude, Yo, Just hanging out, dude, just
- 1:03Speaker 3: actually doing some hunting, which is nice. We're archery white
- 1:07Speaker 3: tail deer honting, which is one of my favorite things
- 1:10Speaker 3: to do.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Guess what, it's white tail Week.
- 1:12Speaker 4: It's right and this podcast is brought to you by
- 1:14Speaker 4: First Light, who happens to be running a sale on
- 1:17Speaker 4: white tail pattern called Specter that is their first Light
- 1:21Speaker 4: Camo pattern and things that you can find online at
- 1:25Speaker 4: a good price that are very quality made equipment for
- 1:30Speaker 4: you to go kill some white tails with this year.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Right man and white Till Week is a lot more about,
- 1:35Speaker 3: you know, good deals on good gear because the medior
- 1:39Speaker 3: feed in general has got a bunch of stuff going
- 1:43Speaker 3: on for white tail right now, in fact, celebrating white
- 1:45Speaker 3: Tail Man. The Element guys are on the media feed. Wow, yeah,
- 1:52Speaker 3: they go crazy. So anyways, we talk a lot about
- 1:55Speaker 3: spotting stalk stuff on that and you know we are
- 1:58Speaker 3: going to have on our Elements uh podcast there will
- 2:02Speaker 3: be uh a October Q and A and I'm sure
- 2:05Speaker 3: we're gonna cover a lot of that spot stalk and
- 2:07Speaker 3: all kinds of other white tail questions that you all
- 2:10Speaker 3: have singing in.
- 2:11Speaker 2: So check that out if you haven't.
- 2:12Speaker 3: It launched the same day as this podcast, but yeah,
- 2:15Speaker 3: it is white Tail Wink across Metior platforms.
- 2:18Speaker 2: So uh f h F first lot. Everybody's just going
- 2:21Speaker 2: wild about.
- 2:22Speaker 3: This stuff, and and it really is a lot more
- 2:24Speaker 3: about like, let's talk about the most hunted big game
- 2:28Speaker 3: animal North.
- 2:28Speaker 2: America a little bit because it's pretty important, that's right.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Well, it's cool because there's they're around everywhere, and there's
- 2:36Speaker 3: something it's hard.
- 2:37Speaker 4: To beat a big horn sheep, you know what I mean.
- 2:39Speaker 4: That's right, you just don't get to hunt it, you
- 2:40Speaker 4: know what I mean.
- 2:42Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:42Speaker 4: I still I still put a white tail, a big
- 2:44Speaker 4: white tail buck up against it, you know. I mean, like,
- 2:47Speaker 4: you know, maybe one that I might have had a
- 2:49Speaker 4: chance to shoot recently, or maybe another one I had
- 2:51Speaker 4: a chance to shoot recently.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Maybe they recently.
- 2:56Speaker 3: So I think in the spirit of white till week,
- 2:59Speaker 3: we're until about our week a little bit. Yeah, the
- 3:05Speaker 3: man Tyler Jones as a vendetta against the state of
- 3:08Speaker 3: Nebraska and he wants to shoot all their white tails.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I did say that it's like his it's like his
- 3:14Speaker 2: mo o. Dude.
- 3:14Speaker 3: He wants to kill every white tail deer in Nebraska,
- 3:16Speaker 3: and he has got a good start on him.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Well, they they got me for a couple of years there, bro,
- 3:21Speaker 4: they had me over there.
- 3:23Speaker 2: That is the first happening. I'm not gonna lie.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Yeah, they so, you know, in Nebraska, the first couple
- 3:30Speaker 4: of years I went, it was a struggle. There's a
- 3:34Speaker 4: lot of dudes competing for early season deer there and
- 3:39Speaker 4: it's just been it was as tough. It's hot, there's bugs.
- 3:42Speaker 4: There was mosquitos like crazy. One year I had I
- 3:47Speaker 4: had worked in on a really nice velvet eight point
- 3:51Speaker 4: one afternoon and got him at twelve yards and when
- 3:53Speaker 4: he came out, he kind of peeped me in a
- 3:57Speaker 4: big old huggy bear sitting next to me getting ready
- 4:00Speaker 4: to video and shoot this deer, you know, and that'll happen.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Your profile is just twice as.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Big when you got another guy in the woods with you,
- 4:08Speaker 4: you know what I mean, if not more, I mean
- 4:10Speaker 4: you start spreading out and multiplying, and things just get
- 4:13Speaker 4: you know, cameras and big old mics on top and
- 4:16Speaker 4: all this stuff. So it makes it difficult to kill
- 4:18Speaker 4: deer and get real aggressive, which you know is something
- 4:22Speaker 4: you like to do. You're a very aggressive hunter. Not
- 4:24Speaker 4: very but you're an aggressive hunter. You understand the knowledgeably
- 4:27Speaker 4: aggressive side of things. And anyway, so the first two
- 4:32Speaker 4: years and lots of driving and lots of being broke
- 4:34Speaker 4: to like nineteen was one of the more poor years
- 4:37Speaker 4: of my life, you know, twenty nineteen and you know
- 4:40Speaker 4: it was tough. Guess what about twenty twenty one? You
- 4:44Speaker 4: talked me into going back to Nebraska. I was done
- 4:48Speaker 4: two years. I figured out I didn't want to be
- 4:50Speaker 4: there again. It was hard, it was tough, it was hot.
- 4:53Speaker 4: You talked me into going back, and I end up
- 4:57Speaker 4: shooting a really nice buck. The memory is such a
- 5:00Speaker 4: good memory, man, And it was fun night. There was,
- 5:04Speaker 4: I mean, from the whole day, the transpire of the
- 5:08Speaker 4: whole day.
- 5:08Speaker 2: It was awesome.
- 5:09Speaker 4: And I think it was September fourth when I shot
- 5:12Speaker 4: that deer, so he was real fresh out of velvet,
- 5:15Speaker 4: you know, and just had like them spiky sharp things
- 5:17Speaker 4: on his bases, you know, and just a wide, nice
- 5:21Speaker 4: buck that came to like three yards and smoked him
- 5:24Speaker 4: straight down. And then that was twenty one. On twenty two,
- 5:29Speaker 4: you and I go back and we do the double thing,
- 5:31Speaker 4: which just you know, released earlier the spring in video
- 5:34Speaker 4: format on the Mediator channel, which is part that's the
- 5:38Speaker 4: first part, one first part of our series of the
- 5:41Speaker 4: buck Truck, So you can check that out if you
- 5:43Speaker 4: haven't seen it, and it's a cool video. We double
- 5:46Speaker 4: within like fifteen minutes of each other, and we're sitting
- 5:48Speaker 4: like eighty five yards apart or something eighty one yards
- 5:51Speaker 4: something like that. It was awesome. So this year we
- 5:55Speaker 4: come back. And I actually wasn't really thinking double until
- 5:58Speaker 4: you mentioned it, I think, and uh but I didn't
- 6:01Speaker 4: want to shoot a deer. I just I just wasn't
- 6:02Speaker 4: thinking like, oh, we should really, you know, we should
- 6:05Speaker 4: like continue the tradition here.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's like, oh, let's go too kill some deer.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I knew it was a possibility, but we had pretty
- 6:10Speaker 3: much three days to hunt, and mornings have been like
- 6:15Speaker 3: hot weather, and they just hadn't been great. We have,
- 6:18Speaker 3: in fact hunting mornings and didn't see any deer anymore,
- 6:21Speaker 3: Like no deer, not even dose.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Right, yeah, uh so it's really three evening hunts.
- 6:26Speaker 3: So it's like, uh, I guess your chances of doubling
- 6:32Speaker 3: up are pretty low. It's like a kind of like
- 6:34Speaker 3: a slot machine almost, right. I don't know much about that.
- 6:36Speaker 3: But there's three of them, right, you know, like they
- 6:39Speaker 3: matching them up is going to be pretty tough. But
- 6:41Speaker 3: I knew there was a possibility because we're in an
- 6:43Speaker 3: area there's a lot of deer, we're hunting some really
- 6:45Speaker 3: good food sources, and you know that's you know, I
- 6:50Speaker 3: both tend to shoot a deer.
- 6:52Speaker 4: So it's the way I know, man, I got to
- 6:55Speaker 4: shoot more than once on that trip.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Actually, dang you letting that cat out of the background.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Maybe, I mean there's some dose that got killed and
- 7:02Speaker 4: stuff like that to you.
- 7:03Speaker 2: So you know, it's a fun trip. It was, man,
- 7:07Speaker 2: and so I.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Talk about a lot of that on our podcast. I
- 7:09Speaker 4: imagine the uh, we're just gonna leave it there.
- 7:12Speaker 2: The double.
- 7:13Speaker 4: The double may or may not have happened. It happened, Okay,
- 7:16Speaker 4: it happened. I think you just gotta you gotta figure
- 7:19Speaker 4: out the details on our podcast. Yeah, that's a good idea,
- 7:21Speaker 4: it is.
- 7:21Speaker 3: So with that being said, on that note, we are
- 7:26Speaker 3: going to give you what we think about Nebraska for
- 7:31Speaker 3: a fresh extra report here at the beginning of archery season,
- 7:35Speaker 3: kind of as a celebration of what's a week Tyler Jones,
- 7:41Speaker 3: knowing what you know about what's going down right now
- 7:44Speaker 3: in the state of Nebraska, what would you give the
- 7:48Speaker 3: next week on a scale of one to ten for
- 7:51Speaker 3: predicted buck movement?
- 7:53Speaker 2: I give a reason why.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Yes, I would predict that buck movement will end, and
- 8:01Speaker 4: I will predict that it will move from a four
- 8:04Speaker 4: to a six.
- 8:05Speaker 2: But give them the Midwest six. It's a Midwest six
- 8:07Speaker 2: in there. Way to go to.
- 8:08Speaker 4: By the way, if you hear somebody from the Midwest
- 8:10Speaker 4: on Refresh and it ain't the rut, it's probably gonna
- 8:13Speaker 4: be a six. That's a very thing. It's like, oh,
- 8:17Speaker 4: it's a little bit optimistic, you know. It's kind of like, man,
- 8:20Speaker 4: we might get somebody in there that can change our policies,
- 8:22Speaker 4: and this thing is better for us.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Who knows? It seems like we.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I think that, Oh you have reasons, so yeah, yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 4: the reasons is. The main reason is there's a pretty
- 8:35Speaker 4: good cold front coming across kind of Midwest, and I
- 8:39Speaker 4: think that what I have noticed in the last week
- 8:42Speaker 4: of hunting has been, like you said, slow mornings and
- 8:46Speaker 4: even the evenings. It's been hot enough that it has
- 8:50Speaker 4: kind of stifled the It's almost compressed the movement. I
- 8:54Speaker 4: feel like, into a it's just hot and windy. So
- 8:58Speaker 4: everything is like last minute. And I have a real
- 9:01Speaker 4: good reason as of last night why that's the case.
- 9:03Speaker 4: But like twenty minutes before shooting light, all of a sudden,
- 9:06Speaker 4: it was just like a wave of deer right and
- 9:10Speaker 4: I saw that the first evening I hunted too, where
- 9:12Speaker 4: it was like everything just right at dark just started
- 9:14Speaker 4: to really I mean, you see some those early on Nebraska,
- 9:17Speaker 4: but like all the bucks just ride at dark Man,
- 9:20Speaker 4: So I think that it will increase. It'll bump a
- 9:24Speaker 4: point or two going into maybe three to five. It's
- 9:27Speaker 4: caught three to five.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, it sounds pretty good. I'm about right there.
- 9:32Speaker 3: I don't think i'd change what you had to say
- 9:34Speaker 3: on that at all. I would also add though, that
- 9:37Speaker 3: from my observations, the bucks were still in bachelor groups,
- 9:41Speaker 3: but they were a little looser and everybody.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Was feeling the juice.
- 9:46Speaker 3: They started scraping while we were hunting and rubbing, and
- 9:51Speaker 3: in fact, I saw a mature buck come over and
- 9:53Speaker 3: run or kind of bumped, didn't run him off, but
- 9:55Speaker 3: bumped a two year old who was rubbing, and he
- 9:58Speaker 3: went to rubbing on the same So I think that
- 10:02Speaker 3: within the next week we're going to see those bachelor
- 10:04Speaker 3: groups start to really break apart. And if you've had
- 10:09Speaker 3: deer patterned, that could be bad for you. But if
- 10:12Speaker 3: you haven't and you've been wondering where the bucks are,
- 10:15Speaker 3: that could be a really exciting time for you because
- 10:17Speaker 3: they're gonna So deer aren't territorial from what I understand,
- 10:21Speaker 3: but they are aggressive, and they have a hierarchy, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 3: a level of who's dominant. So you're going to end
- 10:29Speaker 3: up with these little bubbles that bucks kind of try
- 10:33Speaker 3: to stay out of, and that's whey they starts craping
- 10:34Speaker 3: and doing all that stuff. Anyways, I think that if
- 10:37Speaker 3: you haven't been seeing bucks, there's a chance you start
- 10:39Speaker 3: having bucks show up this week with the cold weather
- 10:41Speaker 3: and the dispersion. So it's a good time of the
- 10:43Speaker 3: year to be a whitetail hunter. Let's go listen to
- 10:46Speaker 3: what the guys have to say for reports. I've gotten
- 10:50Speaker 3: Nathan Koenig from Alberta, Canada with Vortex Canada. He has
- 10:54Speaker 3: been doing some whitetail hunting up in the North Country.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Hey, dude, what's up, man?
- 11:00Speaker 5: This is it man.
- 11:00Speaker 6: I just got back from a fifteen day hunting trip,
- 11:04Speaker 6: a successful hunting trip, so things are winding down a
- 11:08Speaker 6: bit for me, but picking up for probably a lot
- 11:10Speaker 6: of the people out here in the woods.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Dude, that's awesome.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I that sounds like a pretty long ago of it
- 11:17Speaker 3: for fifteen days, but I'm glad to hear you had
- 11:19Speaker 3: some success. You killed a really nice wattail buck from
- 11:22Speaker 3: what I saw. Can you tell me what the hunting
- 11:26Speaker 3: was like.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Was it hot? Was it tough? What was going on
- 11:29Speaker 2: up there? Oh?
- 11:30Speaker 6: Man, it was a lot, a lot of deer movement,
- 11:34Speaker 6: Lots of dos and smaller bucks have been out seeding,
- 11:37Speaker 6: laid into the mornings and early early in the evenings
- 11:41Speaker 6: up until dark. So it's been it's been pretty awesome. Actually,
- 11:46Speaker 6: the mature bucks they seem to be hiding a little bit,
- 11:49Speaker 6: probably out exploring their territories, maybe taking inventory of does,
- 11:54Speaker 6: but they've been fairly patternable, So it's been. It's been good.
- 11:57Speaker 6: It was an awesome hunt for sure, Nathan.
- 12:00Speaker 2: They eating.
- 12:02Speaker 6: A lot of a lot of alf alpha, a lot
- 12:06Speaker 6: of hayfield.
- 12:07Speaker 5: I've been finding them in.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Yeah, are there are there any Are they doing any
- 12:11Speaker 4: any native brows options up there right now?
- 12:14Speaker 2: Is it pretty much? Ag is just a way to go?
- 12:18Speaker 6: I would say it's the way to go. I've basically
- 12:21Speaker 6: I stuck to all the eggs because the deer's are
- 12:23Speaker 6: are piling in. It's starting to get cooler in the evening,
- 12:26Speaker 6: so I think they're starting to try and get that
- 12:28Speaker 6: fat layer built up for the nasty winters we have
- 12:31Speaker 6: up here.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Can you correlate that cooler temperatures with an earlier movement
- 12:39Speaker 4: from those bucks in the evenings.
- 12:42Speaker 6: I would say the little, the littler, the smaller bucks,
- 12:45Speaker 6: less mature bucks are moving trying to get that feed
- 12:48Speaker 6: and hanging out a little bit with the doors. But
- 12:51Speaker 6: the more mature bucks they're starting now that it's getting cooler,
- 12:55Speaker 6: just starting to explore the territory and uh looking, you know,
- 12:59Speaker 6: take inventory of those dolls, seeing where they're at.
- 13:02Speaker 2: So, alfalfa is kind of a.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Different food source than a lot of the other agriculture,
- 13:08Speaker 3: right because it's always there that doesn't rotate very much.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Is there any rhyme or reason to what makes a
- 13:14Speaker 3: a alfalfa field good?
- 13:18Speaker 6: I think it's just a field that you know, the
- 13:21Speaker 6: farmers aren't in all, aren't in laid into the fall,
- 13:24Speaker 6: and they're once they get that second cut of hay off,
- 13:27Speaker 6: it grows grows back. So there's lots of food there
- 13:30Speaker 6: for them, lots of good nutrients. Yeah, they love it,
- 13:35Speaker 6: They love that stuff.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Do you think that the moon had any effect on
- 13:38Speaker 3: the hunting the past a little bit here? You know,
- 13:41Speaker 3: we had a full moon cycle just went through.
- 13:45Speaker 6: You know, I started hunting and it was the new moon,
- 13:49Speaker 6: and by the time I was finishing up my hunt,
- 13:52Speaker 6: it was the full moon, the harvest moon, and I honestly,
- 13:55Speaker 6: I didn't see a huge difference in the amount of
- 13:58Speaker 6: deer movement from one of my hunt till the end.
- 14:01Speaker 6: I was seeing the same you know, twenty five dos
- 14:04Speaker 6: and six bucks out in the field, and the big
- 14:09Speaker 6: the big deer that I did see, they seem to
- 14:11Speaker 6: be on on a site like a rotation. So I've
- 14:13Speaker 6: seen them every ten days, so I've seen them. My
- 14:16Speaker 6: second day of the hunt, I saw two big bucks,
- 14:18Speaker 6: and then on my twelfth day of my hunt, I
- 14:20Speaker 6: saw the same two big bucks in the same field.
- 14:23Speaker 4: That's interesting. So going forward, you got some cooler tamps
- 14:27Speaker 4: that you've been talking about. Uh, we got some different
- 14:30Speaker 4: moon cycles. Are you thinking like in the next week
- 14:34Speaker 4: that there would be better hunting or and also would
- 14:38Speaker 4: you hunt like the same pattern or would you do
- 14:40Speaker 4: something different?
- 14:44Speaker 6: I think the I think the bucks are going to
- 14:46Speaker 6: be starting to get a little more nocturnal. I think
- 14:48Speaker 6: it's gonna you're going to get that kind of an
- 14:50Speaker 6: October lull where the bigger bucks are again they're just touring,
- 14:55Speaker 6: coming out feeding later because they're They're smart. They know
- 14:59Speaker 6: they know that hunting season's coming as soon as that
- 15:01Speaker 6: first frost shows up, and they seem to just start
- 15:04Speaker 6: going nocturnal. So I do think that for mature bus
- 15:08Speaker 6: it's gonna you're gonna you're gonna be waiting a little
- 15:10Speaker 6: longer and potentially not seeing them out as much during
- 15:14Speaker 6: the day.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Gotcha.
- 15:16Speaker 4: So if you had to, if you had to rate
- 15:19Speaker 4: the buck movement in the next week based off of
- 15:23Speaker 4: any moon weather variables or just even diurnal period, would
- 15:28Speaker 4: you what would you rate it on a scale of
- 15:30Speaker 4: one to ten?
- 15:30Speaker 2: What you just your your prediction.
- 15:34Speaker 6: I think the last week was probably up there. It
- 15:37Speaker 6: was probably an eighth. But I think in the next
- 15:39Speaker 6: coming weeks it's, like I said, it's going to slow
- 15:41Speaker 6: down a bit. Probably, I'd give it a six out
- 15:43Speaker 6: of ten. Okay, to be a little.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Slower, gotcha. Gotcha. Well awesome, dude.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Well we really appreciate the report from Canada and I
- 15:49Speaker 3: hope you have a great risk of the fall.
- 15:52Speaker 6: No problem, thanks lot, guys, have a great day all.
- 15:55Speaker 4: Right now on the phone, I've got Scotty Lego. Scotty
- 15:58Speaker 4: is an Olympic medallist and also just a hunting Attic
- 16:01Speaker 4: from New Hampshire. What's going on, Scotty?
- 16:04Speaker 5: Hey, how you guys doing.
- 16:05Speaker 4: We're doing well, man, We're uh Actually, I'll say this,
- 16:10Speaker 4: So when you go up north, out of Texas and
- 16:14Speaker 4: other places in the South, you end up in places
- 16:16Speaker 4: that don't really spend a lot of time or money
- 16:19Speaker 4: on ac and so frankly, it's pretty hot where we're
- 16:22Speaker 4: sitting right now. We're indoors and you know, it's like
- 16:25Speaker 4: ninety where we're hunting, so pretty warm. But other than that, man,
- 16:29Speaker 4: I can't complain. How's everything going for you?
- 16:32Speaker 5: Yeez ah, Yeah, everything's going good, man.
- 16:34Speaker 7: Just it's the season that we've all been waiting for
- 16:38Speaker 7: us is here and I'm about fifteen days into it
- 16:41Speaker 7: or a.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Little bit over.
- 16:43Speaker 7: But yeah, sign's starting to pop up in the woods
- 16:47Speaker 7: and it's a good, good time to be out there,
- 16:49Speaker 7: and it's it is definitely a little abnormally warm, but
- 16:53Speaker 7: nothing nothing like ninety degrees going out hunting in your shorts.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Yeah, Well we've been trying to find our way lately.
- 17:01Speaker 4: You've been finding your way in the elk woods and
- 17:04Speaker 4: in the deer woods. Talk a little bit though about
- 17:08Speaker 4: what the deer have been doing in New Hampshire.
- 17:12Speaker 8: Yeah, so we have.
- 17:13Speaker 7: You know, we have a decent population where I live.
- 17:17Speaker 7: You know, I'm in southern New Hampshire. I can't speak
- 17:20Speaker 7: for the northern part of New Hampshire because that's a
- 17:23Speaker 7: world of difference. But yeah, you know, the deer move
- 17:28Speaker 7: in and there are This year is pretty different as
- 17:32Speaker 7: far for a couple of different things. This acorns are
- 17:36Speaker 7: super heavy this year, and apples and beech nuts and
- 17:44Speaker 7: essentially everything that can drop is dropping. So I think
- 17:47Speaker 7: it's spreading the deer belt, which is kind of dropping
- 17:50Speaker 7: deer sightings down a little bit. But yeah, they're out
- 17:55Speaker 7: there and I'm starting to see bucks laying down, some signs,
- 17:59Speaker 7: starting to see scrapes opened up, you know, trees being
- 18:04Speaker 7: rubbed up, and yeah, I'm just I'm just trying to
- 18:07Speaker 7: hone in on a big one right now.
- 18:09Speaker 2: That's cool, man.
- 18:10Speaker 3: So beech nuts are intriguing because I don't know if
- 18:14Speaker 3: a large portion of the country has that as a
- 18:17Speaker 3: hard mass crop. Is that pretty much just in sequence
- 18:21Speaker 3: with when acorns are or when does when does the
- 18:23Speaker 3: heaviest part of that hit the ground and how much
- 18:25Speaker 3: do the deer hit them?
- 18:26Speaker 5: Yeah, they're they're dropping right now.
- 18:30Speaker 7: I think they are not even close to what an
- 18:35Speaker 7: acorn would be or what in white acorn would be.
- 18:37Speaker 7: As far as preference, I think, you know, if they're
- 18:40Speaker 7: in their way or if they had nothing else, they'll
- 18:42Speaker 7: definitely hit them.
- 18:44Speaker 5: But it's nothing I would really key in on.
- 18:48Speaker 7: Maybe if I can get close to, you know, a
- 18:50Speaker 7: buck buck betting area or where I suspect he might
- 18:54Speaker 7: be and that might be the first first tree he
- 18:57Speaker 7: might go hit mill, that might be a factor.
- 19:01Speaker 5: But yeah, they don't, they don't really love them.
- 19:04Speaker 7: But in some areas where they don't have a lot
- 19:07Speaker 7: of oaks, like up north, they'll definitely key in on
- 19:11Speaker 7: them and bear as well too.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Are you doing any morning hunting right now or is
- 19:14Speaker 2: it a lot of evenings.
- 19:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm doing a little bit of both. I will
- 19:19Speaker 7: I won't go to my I guess my best spots
- 19:23Speaker 7: in the morning because I have no clue where they
- 19:26Speaker 7: might be coming coming from or how they're.
- 19:29Speaker 5: Getting into their bedding area.
- 19:31Speaker 7: But you know, we're I love shooting dose, so where
- 19:36Speaker 7: a lot of it's you know, a couple of dough tags,
- 19:38Speaker 7: actually three dough tags where I'm at, so I love
- 19:42Speaker 7: having that opportunity as well.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Scotty, is the moon played into any of the hunting
- 19:47Speaker 4: lately do you feel like?
- 19:49Speaker 7: To be honest, I don't really pay attention to it
- 19:52Speaker 7: too much. I know some people live and die by it.
- 19:57Speaker 7: I know some people don't believe in it. I just
- 19:59Speaker 7: don't really, I don't really know to be quite so.
- 20:04Speaker 7: I did notice though the other day, when uh, one
- 20:10Speaker 7: of your one of your guests on Rockfresh, He's like, yeah,
- 20:12Speaker 7: you know, like I noticed there's a lot of midday
- 20:16Speaker 7: activity when it was a I think it was a
- 20:19Speaker 7: full moon. And sure enough, you know, I ended up
- 20:24Speaker 7: seeing quite a few deer out in the open middle
- 20:27Speaker 7: of the day. But that also had we had a
- 20:30Speaker 7: slight drizzle, slight rain, so that could have been a
- 20:33Speaker 7: factor as well.
- 20:33Speaker 5: We're undetermined.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Well, looking forward, I see, uh, the weather forecast for
- 20:38Speaker 3: New Hampshire is pretty flatline, you know. Uh, there's not
- 20:42Speaker 3: a lot of fronts or anything moving through over the
- 20:44Speaker 3: next week. So uh, as you look to the next week,
- 20:48Speaker 3: what would you rate your prediction for buck movement on
- 20:51Speaker 3: a scale of one to ten.
- 20:53Speaker 9: Oh?
- 20:54Speaker 7: Man, I hate I hate to discourage anyone out there,
- 20:58Speaker 7: and I'm an optimist, but I guess to give it
- 21:00Speaker 7: a three point five just for a couple of different factors.
- 21:04Speaker 7: One just the flatline weather abnormally warm, and I think
- 21:11Speaker 7: just having the deer right out with all kinds of
- 21:14Speaker 7: sources available. I think we'll limit your number of sightings,
- 21:18Speaker 7: but I'm gonna go three point five to four.
- 21:22Speaker 4: I killed a buck on a two out of one
- 21:23Speaker 4: hundred days, so sometimes it can work, man. So I
- 21:26Speaker 4: appreciate the honest report, Scottie, and uh, just the good
- 21:29Speaker 4: thoughts about different food sources and those kind of things.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Man.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Hopefully we'll get to have you back on sometime later
- 21:35Speaker 4: this year, maybe give us another New Hampshire report, maybe
- 21:37Speaker 4: when it's rocking and rolling up there. Appreciate your time man,
- 21:40Speaker 4: and and your optimism at times as well, and hopefully
- 21:44Speaker 4: we'll get to talk to you again.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Man. I hope you kill a big buck.
- 21:47Speaker 5: All right? Thank you guys, you as well. Good luck.
- 22:06Speaker 2: This is Jimmy Shyy. He gets after it in Central Pa.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Up in Pennsylvania.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Uh, they take a lot of pictures of elk, but
- 22:14Speaker 3: kill some really nice white tail bucks as well.
- 22:17Speaker 8: What's up, dude, all working, hunting, loving life man.
- 22:21Speaker 2: That's it.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Man, that sounds like a pretty good time. Y'all actually
- 22:26Speaker 3: had some pretty good success here in the past week.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Your your girlfriend shot a real nice buck.
- 22:31Speaker 8: Yep opening day and we don't only had one day
- 22:34Speaker 8: to hunt so far this year and it paid off.
- 22:35Speaker 3: So that's cool, man. So what tactic were you using
- 22:40Speaker 3: to set up on that deal?
- 22:41Speaker 8: I just had I hide her set up on a
- 22:44Speaker 8: little transition area where I knew they were betting.
- 22:47Speaker 7: Uh.
- 22:47Speaker 8: They were kind of feeding along a ridge acorn ridge
- 22:50Speaker 8: up into some soybeans that the neighboring property highs planted.
- 22:54Speaker 4: So when you say transition, you mean like some like
- 22:58Speaker 4: cover to more open hardwoods.
- 23:00Speaker 8: Yeah, the bottom there is real thick cover, and they
- 23:03Speaker 8: come up over the ridge and they kind of crease
- 23:05Speaker 8: top of the hill. It's a little oak flat, and
- 23:07Speaker 8: then they go into the soybeans.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Is there a place to get them on the top
- 23:11Speaker 4: of the hill. Is there a saddle there or something
- 23:13Speaker 4: like that, or are you just.
- 23:14Speaker 8: Kind of there's kind of like a little saddle there,
- 23:16Speaker 8: And they seem to be liking the one side of
- 23:18Speaker 8: it more than the other. So I put her standing
- 23:20Speaker 8: there near my trail camera and they just read the
- 23:24Speaker 8: script they've been doing all the last couple of months.
- 23:26Speaker 2: There, Yeah, just big white okay acorns.
- 23:30Speaker 8: Uh, there's a mixed red and white. But the whites
- 23:32Speaker 8: are doing really really well this year.
- 23:34Speaker 3: So you said they were decinating at soybeans. Are those
- 23:36Speaker 3: beans still green or they turning yellow?
- 23:40Speaker 2: Right now?
- 23:40Speaker 5: They're still green?
- 23:41Speaker 8: Oh wow, I've seen some of them are turning a
- 23:43Speaker 8: little bit, but there's still.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Quite a few of screen got you man? That's cool.
- 23:47Speaker 3: So as we look forward kind of like to this
- 23:50Speaker 3: next week, here, are they still gonna be doing the
- 23:53Speaker 3: same whereas those beans start to change and the acorns
- 23:57Speaker 3: kind of change, are are you gonna be looking at
- 23:59Speaker 3: doing something different?
- 24:01Speaker 8: I'm gonna be looking into and they typically, you know,
- 24:05Speaker 8: after a couple of weeks of archery and pa here
- 24:07Speaker 8: they changed changed tactics a little bit and started heading
- 24:10Speaker 8: closer to the betting where I'll try to target.
- 24:13Speaker 2: So you know, it was a it was a full
- 24:16Speaker 2: moon recently. Did that affect you y'all?
- 24:20Speaker 8: It almost seemed like it did. Yeah, I'd imagine it.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Did negatively or positively.
- 24:25Speaker 8: I think positively. I think I was kind of prepared
- 24:27Speaker 8: for this year. I haven't really paid attention in years prior,
- 24:30Speaker 8: and I tried to pay attention a little more this year,
- 24:32Speaker 8: and I was hoping just from reading when they were
- 24:35Speaker 8: gonna move, and they actually moved very close to what
- 24:37Speaker 8: was projected online.
- 24:39Speaker 2: How about that?
- 24:40Speaker 4: Man, y'all fixing to make me a moon believer up
- 24:43Speaker 4: on this podcast, Dude, I'm telling.
- 24:45Speaker 2: You moon believer off fair well.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Ago you told me that you had a a number
- 24:51Speaker 3: one buck that's still out running around.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Is that a buck you're going to try to move
- 24:55Speaker 2: in on this week?
- 24:57Speaker 8: That's that's the one I'm hoping I's wum mainly targeting
- 25:00Speaker 8: on and I'm trying not to push them too hard,
- 25:03Speaker 8: but not having a lot of time to hunt, I'm
- 25:05Speaker 8: trying to also be a little aggressive as well.
- 25:07Speaker 2: So with that aggression, are you are you doing running
- 25:09Speaker 2: gun setups or are you just kind of picking the
- 25:11Speaker 2: preset stand that you think is the best chance.
- 25:14Speaker 8: I'm kind of I don't normally do run and gun.
- 25:16Speaker 8: I use a saddle and I just try to try
- 25:19Speaker 8: to follow the sign around as best I can and
- 25:21Speaker 8: try to scout as much as I can and read
- 25:23Speaker 8: the cameras.
- 25:25Speaker 4: So if you're going forward in the next week, you're
- 25:27Speaker 4: going to be. Are you going to still be thinking
- 25:30Speaker 4: about moon stuff and trying to trying to create uh
- 25:33Speaker 4: success through when those like predicted movement times are based
- 25:37Speaker 4: off the moon.
- 25:39Speaker 8: I'm going to keep an eye on it. Like I'm
- 25:40Speaker 8: not a totally firm believer, but I mean I'm you know,
- 25:43Speaker 8: at one time and done. I don't know if it's
- 25:45Speaker 8: a coincidence or not. So yeah, yeah, I don't want
- 25:47Speaker 8: to I don't want to rely on it too heavy,
- 25:49Speaker 8: but I think it could be something to look into.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Yeah, cool man, So uh in the next week based
- 25:54Speaker 4: off of obviously moon, since your believer now, and uh,
- 25:58Speaker 4: whether and anything else very wise that you can think of.
- 26:02Speaker 4: What would you rate the buck movement predicted buck movement
- 26:07Speaker 4: on a scale of one to ten.
- 26:09Speaker 8: I think we're gonna be mid range four or five.
- 26:12Speaker 8: I think a lot of deer is still pretty nocturnal,
- 26:14Speaker 8: but I think you can still catch in like unpressured areas.
- 26:17Speaker 8: You might see some decing before it are or right
- 26:20Speaker 8: by for daylight movement.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Gotcha, gotcha? Yea cool.
- 26:23Speaker 3: That's a pretty good, honest report. I think that's pretty
- 26:26Speaker 3: realistic for this time of year. And I'll tell you
- 26:28Speaker 3: what sounds like You've got a beat on him there
- 26:31Speaker 3: in central Pennsylvania, and I hope you get after that
- 26:34Speaker 3: big number one target bug.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Dude.
- 26:36Speaker 8: Well, thank you much. I hope so too.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Cool dude, We'll talk to you soon. Thanks, man, They.
- 26:41Speaker 5: Talk to you soon.
- 26:42Speaker 2: All right.
- 26:43Speaker 4: I've got Parker McDonald from the Southern Collective. He's out
- 26:46Speaker 4: in West Virginia just editing and driving roads and hunting
- 26:50Speaker 4: and getting reports and all kinds of stuff.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Man, what's going on?
- 26:54Speaker 9: Oh dude, just sitting outside and join the view. I've
- 26:58Speaker 9: never been to West Virginia before, and let something. It's
- 27:01Speaker 9: a it's a big country out here.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Yeah, is it? Are you in the hills? Oh yeah, yeah,
- 27:06Speaker 2: oh yeah.
- 27:07Speaker 10: If it's not the hills, then I don't know what else?
- 27:09Speaker 2: What else would yeah? Yeah? Have you uh you done
- 27:12Speaker 2: any hollering.
- 27:15Speaker 10: A couple of times?
- 27:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, that's.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Any Oliver Anthony's out there hollering back at you.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 27:25Speaker 3: It's just Appalaysia, baby. West Virginia is known for Mountain Mama's.
- 27:29Speaker 3: But have you seen any Mountain papas is in big
- 27:31Speaker 3: Bucks out there?
- 27:32Speaker 1: Uh?
- 27:33Speaker 10: So they're here, They're absolutely here.
- 27:37Speaker 9: It's like it's so crazy out in the in these
- 27:40Speaker 9: woods because there's so big, the country is so vast,
- 27:43Speaker 9: and it's like it's a very much a you gotta grind,
- 27:47Speaker 9: you gotta really want it.
- 27:48Speaker 10: You got to put in the sweat equity.
- 27:50Speaker 9: But when you get there to the places, there's a
- 27:53Speaker 9: good chance that there's gonna be some payoff there, you
- 27:55Speaker 9: know what I mean.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Like, yeah, I do.
- 27:57Speaker 4: I don't like that too, man, Like just the feeling
- 28:00Speaker 4: that if you put in the work, it's you got
- 28:02Speaker 4: a high chance instead of like I don't know, in
- 28:05Speaker 4: East Texas, you might be putting in the work and
- 28:07Speaker 4: still just end up hunting right next to it, dude,
- 28:09Speaker 4: you know whatever, not having a good chance.
- 28:11Speaker 9: So you put in the work, You put in the
- 28:13Speaker 9: work in it, and it's still a game of odds.
- 28:15Speaker 9: Whereas when you put in the work out here, you're
- 28:19Speaker 9: it's always going to be a game of ods, I
- 28:20Speaker 9: guess with deer hunting, but it's going to be uh,
- 28:23Speaker 9: you're gonna have greater odds.
- 28:24Speaker 2: To sure to get there sure.
- 28:25Speaker 10: I think. I think that's kind of the theme that
- 28:27Speaker 10: we've seen.
- 28:28Speaker 3: So this week we've talked to a lot of people
- 28:30Speaker 3: who are relating deer to agriculture, and I would imagine
- 28:34Speaker 3: that's not what's going on out there.
- 28:36Speaker 2: So what those deer doing.
- 28:38Speaker 9: Yeah, most of the deer that have been seen have
- 28:42Speaker 9: been either on acrons right, just like most places in
- 28:48Speaker 9: the country. Early October and in late September we were
- 28:52Speaker 9: seeing that in North Dakota as well. But so right now,
- 28:56Speaker 9: the white oaks are just starting to drop here in
- 28:59Speaker 9: West Virginia. It's been super dry, not been a whole
- 29:02Speaker 9: lot of rain, and it's it's just been hot, you know.
- 29:05Speaker 10: So they're just now starting to drop. And so a
- 29:09Speaker 10: lot of the guys are seeing them out there.
- 29:10Speaker 9: But then guys are seeing them in the in the open,
- 29:13Speaker 9: like the open reclaimed stuff where there's a ton of
- 29:18Speaker 9: new growth and green stuff, and so that's what they're seeing.
- 29:22Speaker 9: I mean, if you if you're gonna kind of relate
- 29:25Speaker 9: agriculture to something, I would probably relate it to that. Sure,
- 29:29Speaker 9: those those big open like a clear cut basically it's
- 29:32Speaker 9: gonna do the same thing.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Have there been Have you seen any lunar effects on
- 29:37Speaker 2: deer movement?
- 29:40Speaker 1: Oh?
- 29:41Speaker 10: Man, I don't know that I could honestly answer that question.
- 29:47Speaker 10: I guess we've been here for about four days and
- 29:53Speaker 10: it's been.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I think the way the mood has.
- 29:56Speaker 10: Been bright overhead around like middle of the night probably
- 30:04Speaker 10: you know, the whole time.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Hm.
- 30:06Speaker 9: So so you know, we don't know it's been the
- 30:10Speaker 9: same basically the whole time, So we don't know what
- 30:12Speaker 9: was like before.
- 30:13Speaker 2: And sure it might be like afterwards. Gotcha.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Well, if you look forward to the next week, there
- 30:18Speaker 3: is like a rain front coming this weekend when it's
- 30:22Speaker 3: gonna bring some cooler temperatures.
- 30:25Speaker 2: What do you think that's going to do the deer?
- 30:28Speaker 6: Oh?
- 30:28Speaker 10: Man, I mean, what I think is gonna happen is
- 30:31Speaker 10: if we get some rain here.
- 30:34Speaker 9: Friday, I think there's supposed to be a pretty big
- 30:36Speaker 9: temperature drop here and over the weekend. I think that
- 30:42Speaker 9: you're gonna start seeing Number one, you're gonna start seeing
- 30:44Speaker 9: maybe some more acres start dropping and be able to
- 30:47Speaker 9: pinpoint those hot food sources in the hills. And number two,
- 30:51Speaker 9: you're gonna start being able to find fresher sign right
- 30:54Speaker 9: like if it's not raining, you're gonna be.
- 30:55Speaker 10: Able to start finding that.
- 30:56Speaker 9: And then you add that on top of a cold front,
- 30:59Speaker 9: and the deer're gonna actually being up moving. I think
- 31:01Speaker 9: it's gonna do a lot for just being able to
- 31:04Speaker 9: be effective as a deer hunter and also the deer
- 31:07Speaker 9: being on their feet.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Oh man, let's go so scale a one to ten.
- 31:12Speaker 4: What would you predict buck movement to be like in
- 31:14Speaker 4: the next week or so?
- 31:16Speaker 9: Man, just because it's so drastic, I'm going to say
- 31:19Speaker 9: probably like a like a seven or an eight.
- 31:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I like it, man, Well Parker, I like you, Man.
- 31:28Speaker 4: I appreciate you as a friend, and I just hope
- 31:32Speaker 4: that you guys have a lot of success everywhere you
- 31:34Speaker 4: go this year. Man, And uh, you know, everybody keep
- 31:38Speaker 4: an eye on Southern Collective. Man, there's doing some cool stuff.
- 31:40Speaker 4: And again, appreciate the report from West Virginia. And I
- 31:44Speaker 4: hope you get to kill all the bucks and those
- 31:47Speaker 4: especially in Alabama.
- 31:49Speaker 10: Absolutely, I appreciate it.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Man.
- 31:51Speaker 10: I feel the same way about you guys.
- 31:54Speaker 3: I hope that you get a chance at the biggest
- 31:57Speaker 3: buck of your life this week. And if if you
- 32:00Speaker 3: need more inspiration, need more hype, check out white Tail Week.
