- 1:20[SPEAKER_03]: Listen to her, tell me.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_03]: Hello, everybody.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_03]: Hello.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_03]: We were back.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_03]: First time in a couple weeks, we meant to be back like three different times last week.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_04]: and all hope broke out last week for us I am calling it a series of unfortunate events yes it was it was literally and and the frustrating thing is that like it was literally a oh we can't go today it's okay we'll go tomorrow and then tomorrow would come and then it was like oh no we can't go today we'll have to go tomorrow and then that was Wednesday and then Wednesday happened
- 1:58[SPEAKER_04]: We can't go today.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_04]: We have to go tomorrow.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_04]: And then Thursday happened.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_04]: It was like, well, we can't go now, either.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, it was a hit.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_03]: I was sick.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_03]: You had a bunch of stuff going on.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_03]: We had a bunch of work stuff going on.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_03]: But alas, we're here.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_03]: We are here back live talking about USC football.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_03]: I think we have to just start at the top.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a bowl, baby.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, let's just so right in, S.E.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_03]: is going to the Alamo bowl.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about this for a long time.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_03]: We knew that S.E.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_03]: was most likely going to go to the Alamo bowl.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about maybe it can be why you, maybe it gets Houston.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_03]: Neither SC is going to go to the element bowl for the first time ever in the first trip back to Texas, since the infamous loss to Tulean in the cotton bowl, whether we'll be facing for the second time ever, TCU, the TCU horn frogs, first time since the 1998
- 3:06[SPEAKER_03]: in Texas, SC lost that game 28, 19.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_03]: It gave the Hornfrogs their first bowl win in 41 years.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_03]: 41 years.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_03]: The Frogs led 28 to three at one point.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_03]: They outgained SC on the ground 314 to negative 23.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_04]: Fun fact before you go into more about that game, that was also the first game of USC's sixth game losing streak in the state of Texas.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, yes, CBQ's in 1996 in the astridome.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_03]: uh... and then the first game access was uh... the nineteen ninety-eight symbol once they lost uh... here these insane post game quotes by the way uh... we had to get away from the morning game because we got behind so quickly u.s. he had coach Paul hackett said quote he's a u-speed an agility and defense really surprised us and then there's this one
- 4:14[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we definitely took TCU for granted Carson Palmer said we thought we could pretty much do what we wanted, but they really shut us down.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_03]: I was really surprised when we couldn't run the football.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_03]: I couldn't believe it when they scored their first touchdown, and I was shocked when it was 21.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_04]: Usually, most of them in saying quotes have ever seen quotes that would get people in trouble in 2025.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_03]: Wild stuff.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_03]: You would hope, you know, we talked about SC facing BYU or Houston, and TCU is not exactly who we talked about as an option here.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_03]: So while they're surprising in
- 5:03[SPEAKER_03]: You would hope that the coaches and the players will be ready for TCU.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of connections with the Alamo bowl and TCU, Eric Henderson coach the UTSA in the Alamo dome in 2016, Anthony Jones Jr. coached the TCU from 2022 to 2023, Lionbacker Ryan Quintinar transferred in.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_03]: from TCU.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_03]: This is a DCU team who's eight and four head coach, Sunny Dikes, they went to the championship game.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_03]: Of course, a few years ago, FBI has them at 36 in the country.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_03]: They went two and four of this year against teams in the top 42 of the FBI with their worst loss being that to ASU who was number 42.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_03]: they did beat their archrival SMU who was, you know, a pretty good ACCT.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_03]: They blew with 17 point leading their loss to ASU.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_03]: They lost their offensive coordinator, Kendall Briles, to South Carolina.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_03]: So that's going to be an interesting little wrinkle there, but
- 6:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, this is not a TCU team that's going to be bummed to be here.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's probably a TCU team that will feel sort of happy to be here.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_03]: I would assume.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, they're, they're punching about their weight as far as bull, uh, bullstandards.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_04]: The album of all is one of the biggest payouts in, in bull season, and by all rights, BYU, or Houston should be in that just from a, from a financial standpoint, Kenny in the chat asks, how did TCU wind up as the opponent isn't the album of all supposed to be a pretty high big 12 standing team?
- 6:51[SPEAKER_04]: my best guess when I I looked at this my best guess is remember there are politics involved in bowl selections and bowl invites in the like and my best guess is that once the pop turts bowl landed BYU very purposefully paired with Notre Dame obviously that went to hell but then going with BYU put the allible in a position to choose between Houston and
- 7:21[SPEAKER_04]: and TCU.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_04]: And my guess is that the alamo and the kenders Texas bowl maybe came to some sort of understanding wherein the Texas bowl wanted Houston because it's in Houston and they can sell those tickets.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_04]: And the alamo bowl
- 7:43[SPEAKER_04]: wanted TCU because TCU, their fan base is more well-known for traveling than Houston's is.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_04]: So the Alamobile basically chose TCU as like a...
- 7:58[SPEAKER_04]: a ability to sell tickets to them choice over the higher ranked Houston and Houston ending up in the Texas Bowl is kind of not a bad result for them aside from the financial thing because their fans are going to be writing that right in the city and everything like that and they're going to have home to the band intro for over LSU.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_04]: So it all feels very political.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_04]: always locked and like locked tight to what what your standing is in your conference.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, it's I believe that the rule is you can pick a team within one game of the standings, which sometimes is really easy to do when, you know, if there's a bunch of
- 8:51[SPEAKER_03]: six and three teams and there's a bunch of five and four teams, well, then you could basically choose from any of those teams, right?
- 9:01[SPEAKER_03]: You can, you can go up, you can go down within a game, so that, that makes it really difficult to bear.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_04]: And remember that USC couldn't end up paired with, as far as we know, as far as we understand, USC couldn't end up paired
- 9:19[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, which is weird, given that like, because they, the side of the, of the album of which SC is in, it's the same side that would be picking Utah because of the whole packed 12.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_03]: miss of it all right.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_03]: Well, and this is the weird part is like last year.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_03]: The Elmable was all big 12.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_03]: It was two big 12 team.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_03]: Because you had Colorado and BYU and it's weird that like that's okay.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_03]: but not the two packed 12 teams playing.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_03]: I understand why that's the case.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's just weird.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_04]: It's also as Kenny, I think points out correctly in the chat.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_04]: Like, USC, them getting down to TCU at that stage also is there's a factor of teams that decided not to go to a bowl.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_04]: Like, Kansas State and Iowa State.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_05]: Failure.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_04]: Because of their coaching situations,
- 10:19[SPEAKER_04]: So then, yeah, you sort of, you know, weird confluence of events, you sort of you end up with TCU being the one that lands there.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's just sort of the opposite of last year where last year, SC was a 6 and 16, winning up playing against a tech essay and M team with one point in November, control their own destiny to go to the SEC championship game.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_03]: And now it's,
- 10:46[SPEAKER_03]: the inverse.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_04]: We did not think USC was going to get the the Vegas bowl last year.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_04]: The SRS distribution, Vegas bowl.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_03]: And so so here we are.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_03]: Let's talk about player-off that the Carlos Nicholson is not up to now and he will be practicing for the bowls.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_03]: But these are the guys who will not be playing.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_04]: This is officially from Lincoln Riley.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_03]: uh... go make your money did uh... it hello career for him we're talking about him in a minute in terms of the bulletin a cough uh... decobie lane uh... not playing declared for the NFL draft officially tomorrow ramsey declared and not playing
- 11:28[SPEAKER_03]: Bishop Fitzgerald, the all-American safety, which was going to mention in a minute, not playing Lake McCree, not playing Eric Gentry, not playing Killing O'Connor, not playing, Joaquim Stewart is not playing because of a stress fracture in his foot.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_03]: That's not a not playing to leave the roster situation.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_03]: That's a not playing because of injury situation.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_04]: Which he's been playing throughout year.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, along with Elijah Page, but also Anthony Lucas is not playing.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so what it looks like to me is there's a handful of or half a handful of guys who are not playing because they ended the season injured and they're not going to play to You know get healthy and all of that and then there's a bunch of seniors who are not going to play probably to start focusing already on the NFL draft process and then there's the guys who are opting out
- 12:19[SPEAKER_04]: which McIleman has not officially, but it's obvious and Lane and Ramsey.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_04]: Mr. Puka head asked does this mean my office coming back.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_04]: Jane Mayaba has not officially announced his return to USC.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_04]: However, he was at practice today in pads, practicing as USC's quarterback.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_04]: So I think the wind has been blowing in the direction of him sticking around for next season.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_04]: and the bull participation doesn't seem to be refuting that.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_04]: Having said that, there is, we cannot get ahead of ourselves and say there is no chance that trade my ava declares for the NFL draft he could.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_04]: Something could change in the next month.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_04]: But for now, he is practicing, which means something just like the Carlos Nicholson is practicing, which means he's trying to get some more tape out there.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, Hassan Longstreet is out there practicing, even though there have been transfer worries around him.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_04]: So it looks like USC is going to have most of...
- 13:21[SPEAKER_04]: Most of the players who would consider transfer risks for now are not ruled out.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the guys not playing are mostly seniors and declared guys and it's an injured guys.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_04]: And it could be just the way that Riley is announcing them, who he's choosing to bring up.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_04]: But there are a bunch of guys who are in the portal now who, um,
- 13:46[SPEAKER_04]: I can't remember who it was, but I believe at least one of them said that they would be leaving in January.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_04]: So I think a group of those guys who are transferring may also end up playing as well, none of them were mentioned by Riley, so.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_03]: Nick and the chat says his way of my playing, I don't think he's playing, right?
- 14:08[SPEAKER_03]: Well, he didn't, he didn't mean for him to play.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_04]: Riley didn't name him specifically, is not playing though.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_04]: which he would have been in that category, we're going to get to who's resigned but women Jordan has officially resigned to play for USC next season and he would fit into the category of killing a corner, drinking certain alleged page, guys who are injured and not playing.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_04]: So, yeah.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_03]: Anyways, all of this in the...
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a bowl, baby.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, the animal bowl, baby.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_03]: And before we move on, we got this call from Cameron and Frisker, Texas.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: I ran a trolley camera for first good Texas.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: I just got bored.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: The USC will be playing PCU and the Almobile.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: Wait.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's all getting in Texas.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_02]: It is.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
- 15:08[SPEAKER_03]: really it's it's been 29 years it's as he is due for a win in the Lone Star State talking about things where as he was due I think as he was due for a bullet neck off it's crazy to me as he's had so many great receivers and they just won their second ever bullet neck off it's
- 15:39[SPEAKER_03]: dead ass and shocked.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_03]: I did not think he was going to win.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's more than deserving.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_03]: I did nothing he was going to win this.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_03]: I thought there was no way he was going to win this.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_03]: I thought the Jeremiah Smith was going to win this in his sleep.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_03]: I am.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_03]: Be Twixed.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_03]: Be Twix now.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_03]: Be fuddled.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I'm having to make a words.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I, I had sort of given up because, um,
- 16:11[SPEAKER_04]: word voting is weird.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I'm a member of the Football Riders Association of America and I get the email saying that, you know, it's time to vote every year and I decline because I don't feel like I know players and their true impact well enough to actually weigh in.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_04]: But I could if I wanted to.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_04]: And like that kind of thing,
- 16:35[SPEAKER_04]: often it changes the way I look at awards and all americans stuff because you know it's
- 16:45[SPEAKER_04]: the boating public doesn't always is not what I was would always call like the most informed group of people about players that are beyond their scope for instance if you need me to to say which of u.s.s players are worthy of a bullet and a cough or an all-american or some like that I could say so if you ask me like who on Iowa is up that level I'm not sure I could answer that I think I think there's a
- 17:14[SPEAKER_03]: difference, though, between the Lombardi Award and the Bolitnikov for the Walter Camp, because I think the or the Doke Walker, like, the skill position guys, I think we can say are relatively, like, those are, my Kyleman deserves this award.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's not like he got it undiservingly.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_03]: I just didn't expect that he was going to do it,
- 17:44[SPEAKER_03]: I think it is different than in a ward for a lineman or something that doesn't have a lot of production.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_03]: Or you can look at stats that you're just going to sort it just by stats and all that kind of stuff.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_03]: Where the heisman is you can trust that the with the exception of 2015 when Christian McAfrey should have won it.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_03]: You can you can trust that the heisman trophy is going to the right guy just about every time right.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_04]: It's rare the highs been gets it wrong like the high spent for instance here I I would have voted for Diego Pavia myself and I have I think strong But it's not like Fernando Mendoza was not a worthy winner I don't think they got it wrong.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think you just you know, but like everybody knows that the highspin guys, right?
- 18:28[SPEAKER_03]: And so like I think that's the same with the bulletin a cough too Like everyone knows McIleman everyone knows Jeremiah Smith, which I think makes McIleman's win even that more much more impressive
- 18:39[SPEAKER_03]: that he got the the the wind here it's interesting too because at some point this offseason I think we need to talk about the legacies of S.C.'s players who are departing the legacy of McCy Lemon where does he rank among S.C.'s great wide receiver where does Jacobi Lane rank among S.C.'s great wide receiver because if we're talking about
- 19:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think Drake London in 2021.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_03]: That's what's crazy.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_03]: Or the of a balloon to cough, but he got hurt.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_03]: So like.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_04]: that my cut my kind of my kind of her my kind of him had a fantastic season certainly deserving of the bulletin a cough.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah and yet I don't know that he was in the top five most impressive seasons by a U.S. he receiver of the last ten years and only one of them.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_04]: He was that but oh no I mean no he wasn't I'm not saying he wasn't impressive but like there have been
- 19:41[SPEAKER_04]: bigger seasons from you see where's that didn't get the award, which I I said I wish I could remember who I was trying to look for it, but on Twitter, somebody took a list of the of the receivers from USC who haven't won the bulletin of copper ward and so you're like pointed out that like any one of these players would be the best wide receiver in the history of the program for 90% of programs out like.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_04]: It's wild to me and and my surprise with McIleman is not is not because I don't think he was deserving I think he absolutely was deserving for a variety of reasons.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, the the you know the the strongest of which is that he USC played I think like two of the top five passing defense maybe even three of the top five passing defenses in the country this year And McIleman made his mark on all of those games like like Notre Dame fans like to talk about Leonard Moore shutting him down against Notre Dame
- 20:33[SPEAKER_03]: And yet he had seventy six yards in that game to like I think that the Nebraska game is when they're he was shut down, but also there was no passing the tech at all from SC in that game.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and I think I think my other not being able to hit the proud side of a barn for most that I can't had as much to do with that.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_03]: But, but my, he was great against Iowa.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_03]: He was great against Oregon even though he didn't have a lot of yardage against Oregon.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_04]: He, you know, he, he was an exceptional wide receiver.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_04]: The reason I would have, I, I, I, throughout the season assumed that Jeremiah Smith would get the award is just because Jeremiah Smith was a household name last year when he was
- 21:17[SPEAKER_04]: McCy Lemon was not a household name coming into this year, and I would wager that McCy Lemon probably wasn't even a household name until
- 21:24[SPEAKER_04]: you know midway through the season when people started looking up going like oh wait this guy if like leads instead of laying everything.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_04]: Um so I assumed that voters would just go with name recognition as a as a as a tiebreaker because when you look at statistically like they're they're very close statistically, um the the I think the big thing going for lemon honestly was that uh voting voting stopped before the big ten title game
- 21:54[SPEAKER_04]: that would have looked like, uh, if the Big Ten title game had factored into people's votes.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_04]: Um, I'm not saying it would change things.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just, I would be very curious about what that would look like because statistically there are much closer than they were after that game than they were before that game.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_03]: At the same time, I think there's also the factor of, and this is, this is absolutely BS and I hate that this is a thing.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, team, team,
- 22:24[SPEAKER_03]: factors in here.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_03]: And Jeremiah Smithia had eight catches for 140 something yards against Indiana, but like, but Ohio State didn't do anything on offense.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that perception wouldn't have helped him as much as maybe you think.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_03]: Um, but then again, I don't know.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe you just look at the stats too.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't, I don't know either way.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_03]: Huge from a Kyloom and we're super pumped for him.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_03]: Um, Bishop Fitzgeralds, and McIlemon are both all Americans, uh, according to the AP and the Walter Camp, all American teams, uh, we'll see if they can get to consensus and the unanimous selections, uh, when the FCA, FWA, a sporting news and all those come out later this week.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_03]: Um, Bishop Fitzgerald.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_03]: shocking to me that he is an all-American.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_03]: And again, this sounds like I'm bemoaning this, I'm not.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_03]: It's awesome.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_03]: Good for him.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_03]: Where you're plaque proud.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_03]: All that stuff.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_03]: If you were asking me in the last 10 years, last 20 years of all the great USC safeties, who was an all-American who wasn't, Bishop Fritcher will not be the guy who wasn't an all-American that I would guess was.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_03]: That said, you're only up against the guys that you're up with.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_03]: This was not a great year for safeties in the country, and he had a bunch of picks, especially early in the season, a bunch of pivotal plays early in the season, and those picks are so good because again, when you look at the voters, the voters are going to CFB stats and sorting by interceptions and then looking at safeties and corners.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_04]: And they're going to PFF and other things like it.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_04]: And he was reading that he was, I think he was like the number three safety in the country in PFF.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_04]: And I think, yeah, I very much think that Bishop Fitzgerald's getting potentially now consensus all American honors has a lot to do with the fact that I think there's a very easy first pick at safety and it's scaled down and that's easy.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_04]: And then you look at the rest of the groups and the rest of the safety that might be involved here.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_04]: And it's kind of a jumble.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_04]: It's a big old jumble.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_04]: And yes, Bishop Fitzgerald gets to peek his head out over the top of that jumble because of his interception sets and because of his PFF grade.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, I think that has a lot to do with it.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_04]: There isn't like, most years, I feel like there are two
- 24:57[SPEAKER_04]: you know no one no one's gonna argue it and I and I think that's like what sucks for Camarie Ramsey is you know I think you and I will both agree that Camarie Ramsey is a better It has been a more impressive player Camarie Ramsey's 2024 I wasn't
- 25:15[SPEAKER_03]: incredible, but he wasn't an all-American last year, and we didn't necessarily think he wasn't all-American.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_03]: We thought he was on the pathway to all-American status.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_04]: Right, but last year, Caleb Downs and Xavier Watts from Notre Dame, we're easy one too, you know, and so he literally had no chance of overcoming those guys without having a spectacular Taylor maze level season.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_04]: So,
- 25:40[SPEAKER_04]: You know, this is also the thing about all Americans which is why I kind of am annoyed that the, you know, the criteria for being in the Hall of Fame is all American because you can be the best running back in college football.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_04]: The the third best running back in college football in a decade.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_04]: but if you played in the same year as to the the other two that are the best running backs of the decade like you're not going to be an all-american so it's all just silly but either way really great to see those guys both get their plaques I expect McIlamant to be unanimous there's a pretty good chance the bishop to show it gets consensus as well and and and I love that I I
- 26:23[SPEAKER_04]: I feel good when USC is adding all American plaques to their wall every year.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and when they are contentious and unanimous and not just like and not like random website.com.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I say this knowing that we're just
- 26:43[SPEAKER_03]: a dumb podcast that we who we should be doing we've said this before it should be a warning name in all Americans putting dudes on the wall yeah and then have the s c s i d department they will according to renaissance on gas though hey we do fan cited according to fan cited there we go yeah yeah just just stack the deck stack yeah all right let's talk about s c stack in the deck with re-signings
- 27:10[SPEAKER_03]: Can we talk about this?
- 27:12[SPEAKER_03]: Women Jordan is announced as re-signing.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_03]: How do you feel about the term re-signing?
- 27:20[SPEAKER_04]: I have come around to it.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_04]: I am actually a big fan of it and I will tell you why you.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_04]: I will.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_04]: Here's the thing, players have been signing stuff to stay at their prospective schools at their respective schools the whole time.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_04]: They were signing scholarship agreements.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_04]: Since the NILA were started, they've been signing NIL contracts.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_04]: They've been signing deals.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_04]: And those deals have often been directly tied to whether or not they stay or go.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_04]: So let's just be honest,
- 27:53[SPEAKER_04]: about how it works, especially now that the schools themselves are going to be directly, directly paying players out of their, out of their, you know, their pot, their pot, whatever we're calling that.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_04]: Let's just be honest, you are re-signing players to come back to school.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_04]: You are giving them financial contract that they are signing in, that they are locking in with you, and you are locking with them, and it is more like free agency than people want to admit.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_04]: But guess what?
- 28:25[SPEAKER_04]: It is free agency.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_04]: Stop, euphemism, euphemisming, and stop just trying to hide what the reality is about all of this.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_04]: In that sense, I love it.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_04]: Number two.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_04]: I like that USC, and I have looked, and people on TikTok were telling me that people have been, other schools have been revenue share, thank you, Joe.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_04]: The other schools have been doing the re-signing thing, and I've seen media referred to players re-signing, but I have not seen an example of another program.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_04]: There are official accounts referring to players coming back as re-signing.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_04]: So to me, what, uh,
- 29:07[SPEAKER_04]: What I see from this is USC sort of leading the charge on this more professional structure that that is going on that you have a GM that you have a front office that you are dealing with, not just with recruiting and all this kind of stuff, but you are dealing with contracts like
- 29:23[SPEAKER_04]: free agency like you are running in NFL front office.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_04]: So in that sense, like I like that USC is calling it what it is and being out front on it and relating back their operation to professional operations.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's smart, not just in terms of getting just projecting to the rest of college football, but projecting to the players they're looking to commit and transfer in or all of that kind of stuff to show that like no USC is operating
- 29:53[SPEAKER_04]: Number three.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_04]: In December, what is the main headline that comes out of December that isn't bull games or recruiting?
- 30:05[SPEAKER_04]: It is.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_03]: Splendid.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_04]: It is so-and-so declared for the NFL draft, so-and-so is transferring, so-and-so is entering the transfer portal.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_04]: U.S.C.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_04]: went through a week where there were nine guys who entered the transfer portal.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_04]: Each one was a headline saying, this guy is leaving U.S.C.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_04]: this guy is leaving U.S.C.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_04]: and while most of them were not big losses, they still get sort of narratively put out there's oh.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_04]: you know, the USC is losing all these guys blah blah.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_04]: By doing it this way, I actually think this is helping to control a like a little bit of a media narrative and having a counter balance to the
- 30:47[SPEAKER_04]: within hours or within days.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, to no kind is just resigned with USC.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_04]: Like, it creates headlines that are more positive for USC.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_04]: And do those matter in the long run?
- 30:59[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know how much they matter, but it is like a, there's a projection and there's an understanding of narrative and there's an understanding of what things look like on the surface that, to me,
- 31:13[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't matter a lot, but it is also just one of those little signs that you're doing things right, that you're like caring about the little things and you are crafting the narrative in a way that suits you.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_04]: So to me, is this meaningful in the slide is probably not?
- 31:31[SPEAKER_04]: Do I like it?
- 31:32[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it feels kind of smart and calculated from USC and I want USC to be smart and calculated.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, I agree with you there.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's jarring how different it is than anything else we've ever seen.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_03]: And it feels, this is one of those things where it feels.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_03]: This is all those things that we've always talked about.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_03]: We've always assumed.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_03]: But like now that you can just discuss this thing, feels weird, you know what I mean?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_03]: Also, the other thing here is,
- 32:02[SPEAKER_03]: I agree, I think the best point you made there was the last one that I don't, but I don't think it's about controlling the media narrative as much as it is.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_03]: This is recruiting.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_03]: This is so you can get the picture.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_03]: You can put the picture on them on Instagram of them signing the paperwork.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_03]: And then you are telegraphing to all of your recruits, to all of your potential transfer portal targets, that this guy is in, you can be in too.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's all recruiting.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think it's less about like media narrative as much as recruiting, even if it's the same sort of the, it's more like social narrative, if you will.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, every little bit helps, is this going to be the reason why you get the top transportal guy if you do?
- 32:59[SPEAKER_03]: No, is it going to help?
- 33:01[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_03]: And if it helps, do it.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 33:05[SPEAKER_03]: Like do do do do what works.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_03]: Do do what works.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_03]: Try to try to be proactive in all those things.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_03]: And if this is what they mean, this is what they mean.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, to add, I don't think it's a new point, but to add to that point about USC being like professional.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_04]: I wrote an article on pants.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_04]: I did a comment about this, which is why I helped my thoughts gathered.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_04]: But the other thing about it, too, is
- 33:26[SPEAKER_04]: for a long time, USC was afraid to push the envelope after the sanctions and all that kind of stuff.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_04]: USC was very willing to sit back and wait and see what what the incidentally wouldn't want to allow.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_04]: And
- 33:39[SPEAKER_04]: and sort of tow the line and always be conservative in the way that they approached.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_04]: To me, this signals aggression in that, like they're not waiting around to see if people are gonna assertiveness.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, they're not waiting around to see if it's gonna be okay for them to talk about resigning players.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_04]: They're just resigning players.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_04]: Like, and it's not illegal, obviously, like, but it is also just another one of those signs that like USC is not acting scared of the incident
- 34:16[SPEAKER_03]: Let's talk about the other resigning so women Jordan is back which is huge you massive He is a high-spin potential running back like he's a high-spin talent running back Which is what you need I think U.S. he has two players on the team for 2026 presumably Who could legitimately win the high-spin and it's him him and my oven is women joy.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah No, let's say that they are but like
- 34:44[SPEAKER_03]: Those are those are the the tier of players that you need to be your big playmakers.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_03]: To the kindness back as you mentioned, which is huge, because you expect him to be a superstar at why you're seeing her for this team moving forward on the offensive line, killing on a corner back huge.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_03]: He started a bunch of games at center ended up winning the starting job at center.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_03]: Got heard a couple times.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_03]: He won't play in the I'm a bowl baby.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_03]: But he's coming back for next year, resigned as well.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_03]: Jonah, uh, Talonu.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry, Justin Talonu is back.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_03]: I'm the only one from one.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_03]: I do it all the time.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_03]: Justin Talonu is back.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, that's, that's big for SC going forward on the defensive side of the ball.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_03]: Braille and Shelby is back at the edge.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_03]: Uh,
- 35:36[SPEAKER_03]: Jaden Walker at Linebacker, Marcellus Williams at Corner, Profit Brown, D.B.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_03]: as well along with Christian Pierce, who is coming along with his brother, Carrington, a quarterback who is committed to transfer from Oklahoma State Carrington Pierce.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_03]: Carrington Pierce.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_03]: What a name.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_03]: What a name.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_03]: What a name.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_03]: Signor of the Declaration of Independence.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_04]: Oh no, I'm going with a Regency era like Jane Austen character.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I was thinking I was also thinking potentially like works for like the the West Indies company as and he's like a he's he's he's not a pirate but he's a pirate you know what I mean like a like a surveillance strike thing Surcarington pissed.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I see it.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, come and did.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_04]: Sir Carrington Pierce is there had there's a sir in front of them actually let's give him the nickname right now because we were talking about we've been talking about Nick names for fans on it calm a thing we're working on but like Sir is how I'm gonna refer to Carrington Pierce from now on yeah, he's He's at the helm of the the HMS Coliseum, I don't know
- 36:57[SPEAKER_04]: uh... kick your right series back that was just announced the second ago yeah and uh... so that's five for the day which means we expect one more to be announced by u.s.c.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_04]: if you aren't following this on twitter or social media uh... if you're not on social media uh... the uh... the uh... the u.s.c.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_04]: has been tweeting out these hourglass emojis so the day that women Jordan resigned they tweeted out a single hourglass emoji uh... yesterday they tweeted out four
- 37:26[SPEAKER_04]: And then announced four guys today.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_04]: They tweeted out six.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think about the hourglass?
- 37:35[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, they just, they can't do the, the, the victory, the V for victory.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_04]: So they have to do.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_04]: One can't there.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_04]: Because that's for like recruit.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_04]: That's for commitments.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_03]: Are these not commitments?
- 37:47[SPEAKER_03]: No, not for a group.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_03]: They're recigning.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's still, they're still guys who are committing back to the program.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_03]: I, I, I, I just say that like,
- 37:55[SPEAKER_03]: do a sword.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, like something on print.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_03]: What is the hourglass?
- 37:59[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's something to do.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's incoming.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_04]: Like I think it means incoming.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_04]: Jessie, yes.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_04]: We did mention profit brown for me of the guys who have currently resigned outside of women Jordan being the obvious, I think that getting Christian peers and profit brown locked down is huge because that's too, I think, reliable pieces for your secondary that you just
- 38:26[SPEAKER_04]: They're they're plug-in play starters and you're just gonna move on with them and then Teno kind's as wide as ever one you couldn't lose him and Just in town new because he's got real potential and you can't afford to lose offensive linemen and Be rebuilding your offensive line again.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_04]: You want as many of those guys back as possible now Killian O'Connor.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_04]: I think is huge just from a continuity standpoint
- 38:53[SPEAKER_04]: Do I think that U.S. should be looking at ways that they can
- 39:01[SPEAKER_04]: uh... upgrade on somebody like killing a corner given the the the sort of level of his ceiling yes i would like them to do that but i think it's even more important for continuity on that often spline because you can handle killing a economy not being the best center in the country if that those five offence of linemen are all seen from the same him sheet and playing together at high level yeah just in the chat says that tonight is is who he's helped thankful for
- 39:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Tuna Hines is a big, is a big one there.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_03]: Wayman Jordan, obviously a big one there.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_03]: Let's get into the guys who are not coming back because
- 39:42[SPEAKER_03]: Some of these, I think, to be expected, some of them not, obviously you start with Camaro Ramsey and Jacobi Lane moving on to the NFL.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, do I think that both of them could have come back for next season?
- 40:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_03]: I think that Camaro Ramsey was better last year than he was this year, because he played out of position.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that maybe it could have been
- 40:12[SPEAKER_03]: You know safety safety.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, playing free safety again.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think maybe that would have helped.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: They're playing strong.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_03]: Say whatever you want to put a strong safety more when they're likely.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_03]: But like yeah, I think that could have helped.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: At the same time, the dude's got his degree.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_03]: Is he is he going to help his draft stock of that much more?
- 40:33[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe like it's some point you just got to go make your money.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_03]: Jacobi Lane is someone who's fascinating because
- 40:43[SPEAKER_03]: This is a guy who has a bunch of touchdowns, a bunch of highlight we at real plays.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_03]: He's got a lot of film that can really pop off and you can go and be a second round peck probably.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_03]: At the same time, I do think there's a world in which he could have come back and sort of refine this game a little bit more and become a first round guy.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_03]: But at some point,
- 41:04[SPEAKER_03]: go be the second round guy.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: If that's who you are, you know what I mean?
- 41:08[SPEAKER_03]: Like go do your thing.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_03]: More power to him to go onto the NFL.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think these are two guys we always expected.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_03]: The SC was most likely going to lose after the season.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_03]: uh... but let's go to the transfers brine jackson gone this was the first dude uh... dude gone not a surprise with running backs especially with women jordan coming back and i think we all assume that king miller is going to be back uh...
- 41:37[SPEAKER_03]: Harry Dalton sort of a surprise freshman running back.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_03]: He got in there sort of towards the end of the season a little bit DJ Jordan Prince Dron from the writer-severroom are into the portal.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_03]: Prince Dron didn't really
- 41:56[SPEAKER_03]: get a lot of playing time got hurt in week one but also didn't get a lot of playing time after transferring in from points to state.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_03]: DJ Jordan, the only memorable thing I have from DJ Jordan this year is the fumble against pitch against state.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, unfortunately, but yeah.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the offensive line might have been wellos and McKiceina.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: Sure, I get, like, I, you, you wish him well.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_03]: Like, S.E.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_03]: clearly must have prioritized to a new.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_04]: Sina never breaking through this season.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_04]: And Ben Wello's being beaten out by Kaylon Miller.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_04]: Pretty much told us everything.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_03]: Gus Cordova moving on needs transfer and outs.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_03]: Matt Ty Tegoi is heading away a low with Harrison Madden and Anthony Beaver's.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_03]: Madden and Beaver's guys that have been here for a long time.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_03]: Go to your thing.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_04]: Surprise it in transfer last year to be quite honest.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, especially when Beaver's is sort of bounced around with different positions.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_03]: Beaver's probably going to be the last player ever.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_03]: to come out of two-time CIF state champ marble.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's a state Bernard's in the in the media guide.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_03]: And like that part kills you too because he had to leave in our bond, but you know, I don't really at Carlin Jones there.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, Carlin Jones as well on the defensive line.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_03]: And Braylon Conley and Steve Miller in the secondary.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_03]: At least I am bummed about these two for two reasons.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_03]: One, I thought Braylon Conley really came on.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's a Northwestern game.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_03]: He really flashed a bit in that game.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_03]: I was sort of intrigued to see where he could, how he could develop, I think that's a bummer.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_03]: And Steve Miller,
- 43:54[SPEAKER_03]: We didn't get to play this!
- 43:56[SPEAKER_05]: It's so good!
- 44:00[SPEAKER_04]: You were already!
- 44:05[SPEAKER_04]: I know!
- 44:05[SPEAKER_04]: You were already!
- 44:06[SPEAKER_04]: I know!
- 44:08[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the, like you said, like, I think that there's a group here, well, like there's two here, Madden and Beaver's that are just not surprises.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_04]: Miller, Conley, Tagoai, Cordoba, and Jones are slightly surprising just because they're so young and
- 44:26[SPEAKER_04]: And they weren't like in a position where it's clear that they're never going to see playing time.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_04]: Now Steve Miller may have been in that position given the safety sort of
- 44:41[SPEAKER_04]: line up and where he was where he was fitting in that, but USC does not have a lot of depth that's safety unless they go out and get it from the portals.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, I don't know about that.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_04]: Gus Cordova, again, USC doesn't have that much depth at the edge.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_04]: Now, they are bringing in guys like Luke Waffle who...
- 45:02[SPEAKER_04]: could be an instant, you know, contributor on the edge.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_04]: So maybe he sees the writing on the wall same with Carlin Jones, where again, there's not that much depth on the defensive line, but the freshman that are coming in, like does he just sort of expect that he's he's not going to play over TomTom to play or Jamie Winfield or any one of those guys?
- 45:26[SPEAKER_04]: maybe I I feel like these could be really big losses like the any one of these guys could be guys that we looked down the line and see them succeeding for another team, Matai Tagua in that as well.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_04]: And really, but most of the fact that USC lost them, at the same time, I think there is equally as good of a chance that we will look at those guys and see that USC has already replaced them and that it was not.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think it's going to be interesting to see how so much of it continues to sort out.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_03]: Still a lot of guys that you got to figure out if they are going to get into the portal or not, we've got to figure out if what the future of some long street is, got to figure out the future of John Jarrett, those are guys that,
- 46:29[SPEAKER_04]: uh... we're still waiting to hear if they're if they're if they're re-signing on ad add um... walker lines to that mix there's some rumors about walker lines uh... don't play with his brother
- 46:41[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, that's always been the thing.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_04]: He's under B-way, you right?
- 46:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he signed a B-way.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_04]: You think it's like he, I believe he's going on his mission.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't know what the timing goes for that.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_04]: But at the same, like, if you think about, you know, why would... Well, you take a mission when you're 19.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_03]: So like, a lot of guys take it first, but some guys...
- 47:04[SPEAKER_04]: come, you have to take it here.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_03]: They've been rolled and all that stuff.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_03]: So like, is there a word where you want to play with your brother and then go?
- 47:10[SPEAKER_03]: But like, you see, get a win the starting job at quarterback probably not.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_04]: But walker lines walker lines again.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_04]: I like, there's so many of these play of these guys who like, why does Harry Dalton leave?
- 47:22[SPEAKER_04]: It's
- 47:22[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe he just sees the writing on the wall that the genre doe is coming in and that, you know, Sean Olson will be ahead of him in the pecking order or whatever.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_04]: Why does Gus Cordova leave?
- 47:32[SPEAKER_04]: Probably because Luke Waffle is there.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_04]: Why would Walker Lions leave?
- 47:37[SPEAKER_04]: Well, U.S. he just signed a tight end that multiple people who have no connection to each other have recently told me is the best tight end prospect they've ever seen in their lives.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_04]: Don't relatt the possibility these are writing on the wall.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_04]: Exit.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_03]: Let's get into the recruiting class.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_03]: This was sort of the big news and we did not have a signing day show.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_03]: We
- 48:07[SPEAKER_03]: ended up not recording it all last week.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_03]: So they feel like this is like two weeks late.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_03]: Now, but here we go.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_03]: SC with the number one recruiting class in the country by the number 35 signings, four modern day monarchs, three Santa Margarita Eagles, only one of the top 10 recruits in California, but seven of the top 20.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_03]: And I think this is where this class sort of flexes its
- 48:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, Oregon, Oregon fans, rightfully so I think need to feel really good about their class because the tip of the spear being very good, you know, it's sort of like the 2013 U.S.E.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_03]: class where it's a smaller class, but they're all amazing, right?
- 48:57[SPEAKER_03]: SE's class, I think, easily is important if not more so because of you needed more, you needed a wealth of good guys.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_03]: And SE went out and got that.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_03]: Sprinkled in with some absolute stud, super-star types on top of it, and that starts with five star Titan Mark Bowman, out of modern day who you're talking about, the most acclaimed U.S.E.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_03]: Titan since Blake Hales.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_03]: Here we go.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_03]: Can he, can he, uh, unblagated also himself here?
- 49:34[SPEAKER_04]: Tom Lloyd of 20 to 20 for seven sports, uh, did a feature where he talked to people inside U.S.E's building.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_04]: So take it for what it's worth.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_04]: There are people inside the building.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_04]: But, uh, so coaches recruiting staff, uh, you know, all front office staff, all that kind of stuff.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_04]: They referred to Tom to Mark Bowman as George Kittle 2.0.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_03]: that seems really good.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_04]: And they also said that there were a couple players that they mentioned as guys who were going to play right away.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_04]: And he was one of them.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think that he is someone that you can expect to potentially have expect and potential maybe contradictory, but rockbours type immediate inclusion into the offense.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_03]: Plus like, you know, Lincoln Rally was the offensive coordinator at the home when they had Mark Andrews, right?
- 50:28[SPEAKER_03]: So like, the idea that he doesn't know how to use tight end is a fallacy.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he will use a tight end.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_03]: He will find a way to get the tight end if you're tight end.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: is a George Kettle 2.0 Brock Bowers forces way into the lineup as a true freshman kind of guy, right?
- 50:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_03]: Skill position guy is quarterback Jonas Williams, Ethan Booby Feaster, Texas State champ out of the soda out of the, you see how they won their game?
- 51:00[SPEAKER_04]: Ice, I kept seeing coming across videos that I didn't have time to play.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_03]: Crazy.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_03]: Crazy.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_03]: Crazy.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_04]: I'll have to go back and watch that.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_03]: Go literally a gold line stand.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_03]: Like at the gold line.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_03]: needed to be reviewed and overturned as crazy.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_03]: Luke Weaver from Sherman Oaks, Notre Dame 6-foot three speeds there.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_03]: Love a guy named Luke that's just LUC.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_03]: Love that.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_03]: Big big fan.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_03]: other one receivers Trent Mosley and San Margarita he had a monster game for Santa Margarita the other day yeah and then came Dixen Wyatt forced our receiver out of modern day uh fringe five star guy he's someone I think you can expect it to play earlier Katie what did you know with Katie though?
- 51:53[SPEAKER_03]: I like Katie though
- 51:55[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_04]: I like Katie Dough.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_04]: He flipped from Ohio State and so it's it's like not a surprise that he's being described as like the prototypical Ohio State start.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Brian Hartline knew what he was recruiting there.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_03]: The genre dough, uh, over from Oak's Christian, no relation to Darryl.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_03]: And for spell differently.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_04]: But the dough is a great name though.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_04]: And the Sean is a great, like, the Sean Rodo has a great, uh, good way to use a Cali to less.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the channel's done also at running back.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, Roderick, uh, to Zeno, uh, to my run baker, to Zaya Jefferson, those guys also on the offense.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_03]: Um, beef, beefy dudes in the middle.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_03]: Um, on the line, Kinai Pepe, Brock Collegade, uh, Collegade, um, Vlad Diaknaath.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_03]: can you play left wing is a question?
- 52:56[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, maybe he'll play left tackle.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see eastern taffa can in Smith, Chase Denny's and John Fafida, the other lineman there.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_03]: You get some front seven strength.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_03]: Can we talk about the lineman real quick?
- 53:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_04]: Keenai Pepe referred to as a future first-round pick.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_04]: Brett Cologet referred to as a future captain.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_04]: Essentoffer referred to as nasty versatile and big boy and canon Smith, canon with a K.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_03]: uh... was referred to i think in in in in a comparison that lit me up that he is an eye-o-a-type lineman who is underrated you and i watch the tiktok the other day with this guy did a joke about like his ideal offensive line yes and like
- 53:56[SPEAKER_03]: Some of those dude like I will often to like like his right guy.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_04]: I think he said his right guard should be like We can't remember.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_03]: I picture with the dead deer.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, like that's exactly it.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_04]: Chase Dennis is from a UCLA family.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_04]: So we love that and John Fafita the biggest player in the class.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_04]: He's massive.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_04]: He's a rugby.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_04]: He has a rugby background.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_04]: So don't expect to see him anytime soon, but I love
- 54:23[SPEAKER_04]: I love the profile of all of these guys.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_04]: USC is stocked up on really quality top-to-ter talent.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_04]: And then also the sort of three-star guys that they're taking a flyer on, they just, they fit a mold that I really like to see.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_04]: Will they work out?
- 54:40[SPEAKER_04]: We don't know.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_04]: Probably, you know, maybe only one of them does, but they are targeting the right kinds of players if you ask me.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_03]: So I was going to say it's John for feet of tongue in.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, uh, John for feeter is he related to the John to feeter, who was a tongue in former rugby player who represented tongue in the 1986 Pacific Cup.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_03]: He's got to be, right?
- 55:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's got to be.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_04]: Let me see.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_04]: USC has a his profile up on the website already.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_04]: Let's see.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, is that his dad?
- 55:15[SPEAKER_04]: There is no mention of his family, so we may have to learn more about that later.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_03]: So about the guys in the front seven, Talonola, Ely from Kahuku.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_03]: He's a three down linebacker, who I think it's gonna be huge, especially when you come up with the guy named Talonola.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_03]: Fantastic name, uh, look waffle the 55 or the 58 please please give him his choice of which one he wants please Look waffle from Princeton, New Jersey.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_04]: It might be wafel.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_04]: I'm a no We'll have to see what USC says and they're in their Pronunciation Guide are you waffling over how you want them?
- 55:58[SPEAKER_04]: It might be wafel and I hate that.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want it to be wafel
- 56:01[SPEAKER_03]: Braden Jones, Jamie and Windfields from Richardson, Texan, Texas.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_03]: Michigan-style game record that's where you have written down.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_04]: That's how he was described by people in the building at USC.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_03]: Simote, Keto-Aunga from Santa Margarita, Chad Bowden called him a special run defender and havoc creator.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_04]: So he's a Chad Bowden special.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, he is like he was a guy that Chad Bowden had identified at while he was at Notre Dame
- 56:38[SPEAKER_04]: and he is following Chad Bowden to USC if I am effectively.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_03]: Tom Tom to Puy from Monter Day, Sean Scott from Monter Day, Jake Johnson from Prosper Texas, Andrew Williams from Freemont, Taylor Johnson from Cahone, Willie Brooks from St. Pius 10.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_03]: In the second area you got Elbert Hill,
- 57:04[SPEAKER_04]: I have things to say about some of them.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_03]: The fourth.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_04]: The fourth.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_04]: Um.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_04]: Talino Ely, Tom Tom to boy and Jake Johnson, the defense of Blindman from Texas are all being tagged as guys who could play right away, who could be early, early guys.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_04]: Taylor Johnson, the linebacker, was described by the people inside the program as a rob Ryan and like.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_04]: pick like he's the diamond in the rough that Rob Ryan has specifically chosen so you see her to rub ran yeah yes you see desperately needs to get better at linebacker desperately
- 57:45[SPEAKER_04]: And I struggle to see how they will do that in 2026 with what they currently have with the youth of the guys they're bringing in and with the uncertainty of whether or not USC is going to look for a lineback or if there's going to be a lineback or of sufficient ability that will be available in the in the transfer portal.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_04]: Having said that between Telenoid Ely and Shonscott and
- 58:15[SPEAKER_04]: U.S.C.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_04]: is writing there's a lot writing on these guys.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_04]: Becoming something and you know, I'm not going to put anything on anybody but Elias to maybe play as a freshman, but you know, the U.S.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_04]: He needs to have gotten it right with these linebackers this year, or they will continue to lag behind it to keep position.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_03]: 100% secondary forestart corner, Albert Hill from Ohio, Brendan Lockhart from Sierra Canyon, Peyton Dyer from Chattanooga, Josh Joshua Holland from St. John Bosco, Madden Reardon from Sierra Cannon and Chaden Crowder, also from Santa Margarita.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Elbert Hill is, is obviously the, the, the, the, the, the, the gem here, uh, Elbert here and Peyton Dyer are both described as guys who should play early.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_04]: How early they play will be very interesting to see because USC does have openings at corner.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_04]: I don't necessarily want to see fresh one.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_04]: Be starting right away, but Elbert Hill is the level of player that maybe could be that guy.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_04]: Um, Brennan Lockhart and Madden Reardon, the guys from Sierra Canyon.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_04]: have a lot of potential, it's worth recognizing that Madden Ryrton was the defense player of the year in the Mission League.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_04]: Mission League is, it's not like the top league in Southern California, but it's a quality league.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_04]: And earning that honor sort of, it does mean something as far as, as far as what his, what his potential is.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_04]: So this group is another one where USE needs to get these corners right in a way that they haven't necessarily gotten corners right off and enough.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_04]: But it's, I think it's a really promising group that I'm excited to see, of the, of the six in there, I'm, I think it's safe to say you can expect to see at least two of them in the next two years come good.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_04]: So we'll see.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_03]: Did you think we'd live in a world in which SC and 2026 had players in the roster named Albert and Carrington?
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, I didn't have it in my in my part way to be honest, but here we are.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, big class.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to see how that all goes was continue to watch the transfer portal to watch how that all goes so much stuff going your way.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_03]: We got to still figure out our our podcast schedule for when we're going to do the preview.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_03]: It might have to be next week.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_04]: Already it's already the middle of December.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's two weeks away.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_03]: The game is two weeks from Tuesday But Christmas is next week the game is on on a Tuesday.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I feel like we need to drop the preview on like the 22nd The 20th Trump them like yeah, I think the 22nd has to be it which is next week Because we're not gonna do it on the 29th
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, and we're not going to do it on Eve.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, would you want to do it on like the 27th or something?
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_04]: Drop a weird Saturday episode or Sunday episode.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_03]: That's a partick.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_03]: I think we might have to just do it next week.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:01:30[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe on the 23rd and 22nd.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_04]: We'll do it in 20 seconds.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_04]: Let's just say the 20 seconds.
- 1:01:34[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:01:35[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, next episode of the 20 seconds going to be the preview already, which is, which is nuts.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely nuts.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_03]: Let's get into the mail back.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_03]: You've got mail.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_03]: Let's start with a review.
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_03]: We got five star review from Michael's Michigan cap.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's wonderful.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's right over there.
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's it's off camera.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_03]: Thankful for right not only the best U.S. he podcast the best college football podcast not only the best football podcast but the best podcast the best piece of me need to ever grace the human race with seven exclamation points.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_04]: I this is the greatest room ever got I you know what lay it on
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_03]: We'll take it.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_03]: We'll take the five stars.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_03]: You can join this way leaving five stars and we'll read your review as well.
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe it'll be at least this hoodie next time.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_03]: Badgers, true toy.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see who leaves a review.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_04]: Badgers, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_04]: Half of Badger's rapper shoot-up leash for the bag of twizzlers in Badger's stomach, or the earplug inserts in Badger's stomach, or the pieces of Alicia's calf that in Badger's stomach.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_03]: That's the taste for human flesh.
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_04]: Accidental taste for human flesh may have contributed to last week's series of unfortunately.
- 1:03:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_03]: Charging fight in the chat is right after I meet up and in turn there was another chat earlier that I missed asking if we're going to the Alamo Bowl.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think the answer is no at this point.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about it.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_03]: consider it.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_03]: I think we would we would like to go.
- 1:03:52[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think we're going to go.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_04]: I would really like to go.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_04]: I really would.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_04]: The issue like there's a logistical issue with my work schedule because I have to be working on New Year's Eve and travel is a thing.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_04]: Flights are not cheap, accommodation is not cheap, tickets are not cheap, not cheap enough.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_04]: Driving would be really fun, but driving takes too long.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_04]: And we have dogs, and there's a whole logistical issue there, and then also as a side note.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_04]: I would love to go, but I do really enjoy doing the in-game live streams, and I feel like we've gotten a good flow there and good response to that, so us not going will allow us to do a live stream, we can do an immediate car cast, so you know, just the pros and cons simply are leaning towards us staying home.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_04]: Also, USC is not one in the state of Texas since 1996.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_04]: You and I have been present for three of those games.
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_04]: Two, three.
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_04]: No, we didn't go to Tulane.
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_04]: So Alabama Texas and Ohio State.
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_04]: So three of the three of the six Michael and I have been at them.
- 1:05:26[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_04]: And quite frankly, if I go to the state of Texas to watch USC lose again, I might not come home.
- 1:05:35[SPEAKER_03]: Get water burger.
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_04]: We could get water burger.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_03]: All right, email from Alex.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_03]: I'll see you in my go.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_03]: I'm running in because even though these days for the podcast drops, Marty annoyed that
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_03]: everyone who wrote in called or even at least he made sound points.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_03]: This is my hell of chosen to die on anyone who can bring a half ruster a fifth year seniors and experienced underclassments going to do well.
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_03]: If Oklahoma was a school that couldn't compete and Lincoln Riley brought his O-line and D-line to along with the majority of the staff and Caleb
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_03]: To USC could microwave success too.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_03]: Look how close they got with Caleb and Mario Williams from OU specifically if Indiana wins the title this year Maybe I'll move off my stance, but if they lose then that program collapses because you just can't build continuity through the portal I'll be back with my favorite Bumani quotes listen to me now believe me later on anyway I'd appreciate you guys Alex
- 1:06:37[SPEAKER_04]: uh... alics i get it and i think it's perfectly fair to not want signetti's success to be used to bash rightly i don't i don't only it should be used to bash rightly uh... because frankly it it could be used to bash every head coach in college for ball that is
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_04]: that is out there.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_04]: Like, it could be used to be, um, you know, Kirby smart over the head because it took him so long to break through a Georgia for a national title.
- 1:07:07[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, that's the level of success that Kurt Signetti is having.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_04]: So like, I totally get it.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_04]: Having said that, I think that
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_04]: what Kurt Signetti has done at Indiana at Indiana a school that up until Signetti arrived had had exactly 19 winning seasons in a hundred and thirty six years.
- 1:07:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_03]: Like a school more famous for being a
- 1:07:33[SPEAKER_03]: dormant dormant's blue blood and being the school of Jared from subway.
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think dormant blue blood in basketball.
- 1:07:45[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think that bringing in like J.M.
- 1:07:49[SPEAKER_04]: you guys.
- 1:07:51[SPEAKER_04]: is enough to say like, oh, this is just what happens when you have a roster of fifth year seniors, Kalani Sataki has a roster of 24-year-old grown men and still hasn't managed to do close to what Kurt Signetti has done.
- 1:08:05[SPEAKER_04]: Like Kurt Signetti is putting on a coaching clinic that practically no coach in potentially the history of college football can compare to.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_04]: In that sense,
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_04]: It is completely unreasonable to compare it into anybody because like this is like getting, this is like, um, you know, South Hampton getting mad at every coach ever in their existence because Lester managed to come up and win the Premier League.
- 1:08:33[SPEAKER_04]: Like it was a once in a lifetime perfect storm event that just created something magical and special and probably will never ever be repeated ever again.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_04]: You know, if Lincoln Riley had done things closer to what Kurt Signetti has done in terms of the way he operates and the terms of the way he coaches, then USC wouldn't be in this position.
- 1:09:00[SPEAKER_04]: Um, it's just the reality.
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_04]: Having said that, Kurt Signetti is 64 years old.
- 1:09:04[SPEAKER_04]: He's almost twice the age of Lincoln Riley.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_04]: Like,
- 1:09:07[SPEAKER_04]: This is years and years and years and years of him learning how to be an outstanding head coach.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_04]: I want to be completely reasonable while also acknowledging that if Indiana can do this in two years, the fact that USC couldn't do it in four is frustrating.
- 1:09:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:09:30[SPEAKER_03]: I think that the hard thing to sort of understand with the long-term projection of Indiana is that it's impossible to say because we just don't know, because like yes, there could be a world where it's like Lincoln Riley and S.C. in which you have the initial boom of all the like the incoming talent the beginning and then you have to reckon with
- 1:09:58[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, but now we also need to pair this with the guys we've recruited.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_03]: Well, the guys we've recruited long term have either been either transferred away or they weren't as good as we thought they were whatever it is.
- 1:10:10[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's a world in which that could happen.
- 1:10:15[SPEAKER_03]: You can have the drop off at the same time.
- 1:10:20[SPEAKER_03]: you could just continue to live off the transfer portal because that's the world that we live in now.
- 1:10:26[SPEAKER_03]: I think college basketball is the thing that I just keep pointing back to.
- 1:10:30[SPEAKER_03]: You look at Kentucky and Duke, but Kentucky in particular under Calapari, right?
- 1:10:38[SPEAKER_03]: Like, there were years in which they were great and there were years in which they weren't because there were years in which all the transfers are all that one in Duns in there in their world, right?
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_03]: words, didn't gel or one of them got hurt to it.
- 1:10:53[SPEAKER_03]: My new, it's much harder.
- 1:10:54[SPEAKER_03]: My easy run harder at the same time and basketball because there's so few guys.
- 1:10:59[SPEAKER_03]: So if you hit on those on three of those one and done guys,
- 1:11:05[SPEAKER_03]: than you might win a national championship.
- 1:11:07[SPEAKER_03]: And if you miss on those three dudes, you might just be, you know, in the NIT at best, right?
- 1:11:15[SPEAKER_03]: Like, so it's very volatile in that sense.
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_03]: But like I think that we've sort of seen it where like SC in 2023 went to the portal and all the guys they got in 2023 all had a lot of a claim but singer wasn't who you thought he was gonna be at SC
- 1:11:34[SPEAKER_03]: wasn't great at linebacker and all those kinds of things, right?
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I think it, I don't know.
- 1:11:42[SPEAKER_03]: Either way, I think that what it's like that he's doing is tremendous.
- 1:11:45[SPEAKER_03]: You bring the Lester thing of it.
- 1:11:47[SPEAKER_03]: I think the Lester comparison is a good one in the sense of like, Lester winning the Premier League.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_03]: is not a fluke in the sense that those they're sorry.
- 1:12:01[SPEAKER_03]: They earned it.
- 1:12:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they they also like they happen to have two of the best players in the history of the Premier League on their roster.
- 1:12:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that they found in Vardi and Conte, right?
- 1:12:12[SPEAKER_03]: Like, and they had Mara's like, yeah, it's not like they, they, they,
- 1:12:18[SPEAKER_03]: Not like George Mason run in the March madness where they were excelling with guys that were playing above their weights.
- 1:12:30[SPEAKER_03]: No, they just had dudes that were, that were really good and for some reason on their team because other guys didn't get them first or whatever, right?
- 1:12:38[SPEAKER_04]: Well, what I would say is, is somebody scouted those guys, somebody saw their potential.
- 1:12:42[SPEAKER_04]: And then where I will give signal, I think that the up, maybe it's the underrated side of what signetti and his staff had done is, yeah, they're living off transfers, but they,
- 1:12:54[SPEAKER_04]: They're transferred, they're record and identifying talent that will be functional within their systems is Incredible, yeah, it's absolutely incredible the way that they have hit on guys Not looking at stars or anything like that like they found guys who can make plays in their system and do them well like for an element does that we knew that for an element does it was good
- 1:13:20[SPEAKER_04]: I would not have said for nandos is gonna win a frickin' heisman trophy.
- 1:13:24[SPEAKER_04]: Well, coming out of cow.
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_03]: Men, men does this interesting because I always thought he was a good player, but like, there's a Miller mossness too.
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_04]: He was a little bit of a, yeah.
- 1:13:34[SPEAKER_04]: Into this, in the sense of like, a gamer.
- 1:13:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like there's there's there's some spunk to his game.
- 1:13:40[SPEAKER_04]: There's he's a gamer more deagle pavia than Mike Julian saying in in the sense of like You know, I didn't look at him as like a number one overall draft pick kind of guy.
- 1:13:51[SPEAKER_03]: I just thought like As much as I liked Mendoza cow I also think that there was a world in which like his stature in the transfer portal was heightened because
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_03]: there's there's only so many guys and there's only so many quarterbacks and a one of the quarterbacks he was like the best guy in the transfer portal outside of Carson back and that was only because he had played a Georgia right like Miller of all last year was one of the highest rated transfer portal guys because again it was like Mendoza back in Miller Moss right like yeah and if Miller Moss could could he have won the the high spin in the end I don't know maybe but like
- 1:14:35[SPEAKER_03]: It proves that you can get the guy that works for you and prove that he was so valuable not only because of his statue in the transfer port of class, but his value to you, and I think that that's where, you know, what signetti is doing should be a wake up called everybody in the country.
- 1:14:57[SPEAKER_03]: that like hey you could be doing this to the transfer portal like you can be doing this to the transfer portal, but also it's not just about getting the guys because Signetti goes out and gets Dorian Singer and Dorian Singer doesn't have 12 catches you know I mean like I feel like Signetti is made all of his guys work for him too.
- 1:15:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's not just about getting the top quarter back in the past.
- 1:15:22[SPEAKER_04]: There he is guys for a reason.
- 1:15:25[SPEAKER_04]: is is kind of the the point there like he he and his staff have have found their guys and then worked them into their system and it's and it's produced really outstanding stuff to me the the most impressive thing about Indiana's their defense
- 1:15:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, I mean, I think people over the level of their difference their defenses is like top two in an FBI or something like that.
- 1:15:51[SPEAKER_04]: Like I'm going to go by the way, I'm going to have I'm going to do a video or and a series of TikToks and a an article from fancited.com and all sorts of stuff.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_04]: based on a uh... uh... a thing i've i you sent me the other day about judging for nanomindos as high as when and because i have so much to say about that now but one of the one of the things that i have to say on that is like we're gonna downplay his numbers overall because they're not that impressive in terms of just raw numbers and that's that's fair that's true
- 1:16:26[SPEAKER_04]: but context in any season matters and the level of defense, this season in college football, based on my initial look at like FBI and so like that, the defense played this year has been so much better than over the last 10 years.
- 1:16:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we can go into it a different day, but like we were talking to friends in a group chat that like,
- 1:16:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I think the numbers are down for all the Heisman finalists this year compared to where they've been before.
- 1:17:01[SPEAKER_03]: There's that mean that this wasn't the Superstar Heisman class, potentially.
- 1:17:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but also numbers are down.
- 1:17:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think for three reasons.
- 1:17:08[SPEAKER_03]: One, the clock rolls mean fewer plays, fewer scores, all that kind of stuff.
- 1:17:14[SPEAKER_03]: Two, I think the Superconferences is made the schedule so much different.
- 1:17:21[SPEAKER_03]: You're playing in a bunch of rock fights in the SEC.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_03]: You don't need material to go out and throw 800 yards like you needed with Jalen Hurts or Baker Mayfield or whoever, right?
- 1:17:33[SPEAKER_03]: Like, a caliber, right?
- 1:17:35[SPEAKER_03]: It's a different ball game in that sense.
- 1:17:38[SPEAKER_03]: And then the other thing is, I think the offensive schematics, and basically, I don't, I'm not going to say taped out,
- 1:17:50[SPEAKER_03]: The growth in offense, it boomed 10 years ago, 12 years ago, 15 years ago, and like I think the gap between offense and defense is coming much, much closer.
- 1:18:03[SPEAKER_04]: Well, yeah, I think defense is starting to sort of swing back around to
- 1:18:10[SPEAKER_04]: catching up.
- 1:18:12[SPEAKER_04]: The defense is just catching up.
- 1:18:14[SPEAKER_04]: Defensive concepts, defensive, just the way you deal with what an offense throws at you all of that kind of stuff.
- 1:18:21[SPEAKER_04]: It's harder to be innovative, innovative offensively because defenses are handling, they're recruiting and handling spread attacks different than they did 10 years ago and all that.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_04]: And on top of that, there's just more parity because talent is being distributed wider in college football than it ever has been.
- 1:18:43[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:18:43[SPEAKER_03]: That was a percent.
- 1:18:44[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be a mail from John, at least in my go love the show, at least in every episode from Georgia.
- 1:18:50[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for the hard work.
- 1:18:52[SPEAKER_03]: I looked at briefly at some numbers about a month ago and were concerned that long term, what's going on in the Big Ten is unsustainable.
- 1:18:58[SPEAKER_03]: Based on my admittedly rudimentary analysis conducted about a month ago, Big Ten teams, slightly, sorry, struggle mildly.
- 1:19:08[SPEAKER_03]: when traveling two plus times zones for in-conference roadgames when I asked chat GPT the roadgames when he percentage was around 28% what does this compare to roadgames on a short distance from home well the road when percentage for about every other power for conference I'm expecting to see a higher wind road percentage traveling to shorter distance based on zero data I'm interested
- 1:19:36[SPEAKER_03]: to what the conference to do to mitigate this problem.
- 1:19:39[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks again, John from Columbus, Georgia, P.S.
- 1:19:43[SPEAKER_03]: I took away some of the, to the UCI game this weekend.
- 1:19:45[SPEAKER_03]: And oh my god, Luke Waffle might be the most NFL-looking high school player I've ever seen.
- 1:19:51[SPEAKER_03]: Not sure, but what a ceiling is, but the floor is going to be ridiculously high.
- 1:19:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I, I am so, honestly, like this is something that I really want to put
- 1:20:05[SPEAKER_04]: sort of drilling down on I agree that the big ten is not sustainable.
- 1:20:10[SPEAKER_04]: I think these super conferences in general are not sustainable.
- 1:20:14[SPEAKER_04]: I maybe it's wishful thinking, but I just I feel like eventually you're within the next ten years.
- 1:20:20[SPEAKER_04]: No, it is.
- 1:20:21[SPEAKER_04]: Somebody's going to have to realign everything back to logical sense because it none of this makes sense.
- 1:20:25[SPEAKER_03]: You know what's not sustainable?
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_03]: Perfection.
- 1:20:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:20:30[SPEAKER_03]: I think that like.
- 1:20:32[SPEAKER_03]: This goes back to the Heisman thing that we just talked about in a minute ago, like we got used to the Heisman winner having thrown 48 touchdowns a year for a while, right, like we got used to that and now the Heisman winner has like 29 or however many windows ahead, right, like I think we have to recalibrate our expectations for things because the sport has changed.
- 1:20:59[SPEAKER_03]: perfection is not going to be a thing anymore.
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's been hard enough to find an undefeated team in college for both the last several years.
- 1:21:09[SPEAKER_03]: You end up with one or two or that's it.
- 1:21:14[SPEAKER_03]: Now I think it's going to be hard to find the one-wind the one-lost teams in a similar way because there's more travel, there's more
- 1:21:25[SPEAKER_03]: cross-country travel.
- 1:21:27[SPEAKER_03]: There's also more games against superteams in super conferences.
- 1:21:35[SPEAKER_03]: Kirby Smart was stupidly complaining about the 9th SEC game because our poor boys, they're going to have to play another game against the SEC and their bodies are going to be beat up
- 1:21:51[SPEAKER_03]: Can you believe that and we're going to have eight more losses in conference because of it?
- 1:21:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's what we've been saying the whole time, Kirby.
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:22:00[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks.
- 1:22:01[SPEAKER_04]: Welcome to life in every other conference for the last ten years.
- 1:22:04[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 1:22:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_03]: Anyways.
- 1:22:07[SPEAKER_03]: He has a point, though, in a sense that like, yes, if you play nine games and if you play in conferences that have, you know, potentially,
- 1:22:19[SPEAKER_03]: 3, 4, 5 top 10 teams now, which the big 10 and the SEC will just naturally have from year to year, depending on what part of the season it is, right?
- 1:22:30[SPEAKER_03]: Like, at one point, the top three teams were big 10 teams, top four, whatever it was.
- 1:22:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like, this is going to be the sort of norm that like,
- 1:22:41[SPEAKER_03]: Team conferences are going to be top heavy and sometimes the schedule is going to be weird in which the conferences are so big they'll be a team that plays nobody Texas A&M this year played nobody right That's going to happen
- 1:22:56[SPEAKER_03]: and then there's going to be the years in which somebody has to play everybody.
- 1:22:59[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma this year and Oklahoma fights it sway to attend to record and then you can sit here and argue is Oklahoma more impressive on their resume as a ten and two team versus a like Ole Miss who's yeah I think the schedule is 50 and maybe yes, maybe the answer's yes given that the how hard it is
- 1:23:27[SPEAKER_03]: perfection is going like should not be the expectation anymore for what a great team is and I think the reality is that like SE's 9 and 3 season that we saw this year.
- 1:23:43[SPEAKER_03]: is I think going to be the reality for a lot of teams in what a good season will end up looking like, which is you win your games against good teams that are traveling across the country, you struggle in road games, and you might have a good season, but you still go 9 and 3, and then you have to hope that 9 and 3 ends at being
- 1:24:07[SPEAKER_03]: in a season in which there's other three lost teams because then you have a chance and if not well then hey, you're a top 16 team and you're going to be just out of it, but you're going to go to a good bull like I know I mean, but also I think we're going to we're going to start to see you know what is it that separates the good the great teams from the good teams.
- 1:24:25[SPEAKER_04]: And I do think one of those things will be how do you adjust to playing on the road.
- 1:24:32[SPEAKER_04]: One of USC's major problems is that they have not figured out how to win close games on the road.
- 1:24:38[SPEAKER_04]: Because it's hard to do.
- 1:24:40[SPEAKER_04]: But the teams that figure out how to do that are going to be the ones that rise to the top.
- 1:24:43[SPEAKER_03]: To separate themselves.
- 1:24:44[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, Indiana did that this year.
- 1:24:46[SPEAKER_04]: They went on the road to Iowa, Oregon, and Penn State, and they won those games, and they were all close games.
- 1:24:51[SPEAKER_04]: But in the end, they won them.
- 1:24:53[SPEAKER_04]: And that's the difference.
- 1:24:55[SPEAKER_04]: It is, I do think there will be substantial data that we could look at in terms of performance, shorter from home versus longer from home.
- 1:25:06[SPEAKER_04]: But in a playoff era, also,
- 1:25:09[SPEAKER_04]: If you are, you know, just just to throw out a, like, if you're Alabama and you can't win on the road, what are you going to do when Oregon is the, is the, is the home matchup that you are against and you have to go into Otson for the playoff.
- 1:25:27[SPEAKER_04]: would you have been better off traveling in a couple times across two times zones?
- 1:25:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's tough too because like you're right, like part of me is looking at this, like you could look at it from the NFL perspective for instance, right?
- 1:25:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like just if you win your home games, you hold serve at home and you win half your tough road games on the road and you beat all the teams that you should beat on the road.
- 1:25:55[SPEAKER_03]: Well, okay, does that make you ten and two and a playoff team and part of me is like, yes, that could be an absolutely viable way to get in the playoff and then the other side is like, well, that
- 1:26:07[SPEAKER_03]: The Notre Dame didn't get in the playoff that way.
- 1:26:10[SPEAKER_03]: They lost one of those games at home, but they didn't get in the playoff that way.
- 1:26:14[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think we're going to be at 12 teams very long.
- 1:26:16[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to get to 16 and then maybe 24 or whatever it is.
- 1:26:20[SPEAKER_03]: So they're going to keep pushing it back and the more that they do that, I think the more it allows
- 1:26:25[SPEAKER_03]: you to have these games cross country that like are not okay to lose like that sounds weird but like it's just there's going to be teams with more losses.
- 1:26:36[SPEAKER_03]: They're just it's that because
- 1:26:40[SPEAKER_03]: Someone's got to lose these games in the SEC.
- 1:26:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, there's going to be eight more conference losses but I'm going to nine nine games where all the other conferences have already been there.
- 1:26:50[SPEAKER_04]: I'd like we're going to also have to start paying closer attention to how you lose because
- 1:26:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you know, you will have more teams with losses.
- 1:27:01[SPEAKER_04]: You will have more teams with multiple losses and I think it's it's only fair that we factor in how far did you travel, how how badly did you lose what you know what went into that loss, what were the factors.
- 1:27:12[SPEAKER_03]: And there's a world in which you go 10 and 2 and then you don't have to place a road You don't have to go on the road and the playoff and then all of a sudden you play a neutral site games And you can have a road problem and it might not matter You know what I mean
- 1:27:29[SPEAKER_03]: And there's something there's a world in which you have the road problem, and then sorry, you're in the playoff, and now you've got to go to Death Valley and play at night, you know what I mean?
- 1:27:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:27:39[SPEAKER_04]: So, breaking news, Zacharias Williams has the sixth player to resign today, so that's all six buttoned up.
- 1:27:48[SPEAKER_04]: And we look forward to what the number looks like tomorrow, but I'm a big fan of Zach Rice Williams.
- 1:27:54[SPEAKER_04]: I think anybody who's listened to the podcast over the offseason knows that.
- 1:27:58[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm really excited that he's coming back.
- 1:28:00[SPEAKER_04]: I was slightly concerned that like Prince Sean that he might jump trip ship after a tough tough first season at USC, but he dealt with injury, struggled to break into the lineup, especially with USC focusing more on the
- 1:28:13[SPEAKER_04]: priority three that they were they were giving reps to.
- 1:28:16[SPEAKER_04]: So I am very hopeful and excited that he can be, you know, wide receiver two or three for USC next year.
- 1:28:24[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:28:24[SPEAKER_04]: uh... before we go who's high on your re-sign priority list right now i think for me tree da abacirac you have a series on that list gdabaciri might be at the top of that list for me uh... i was looking at this earlier i longer uh... well king miller just to ease my worries has so long straight would be a really really really big one
- 1:28:47[SPEAKER_04]: Um, do you have a Siri, and, um, Kennedy or Lacker, and, oh, and then Cam Crawford.
- 1:28:57[SPEAKER_04]: Cam Crawford.
- 1:28:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:28:59[SPEAKER_04]: I, I think, I think, Abassiri, then Crawford.
- 1:29:03[SPEAKER_03]: I would then Long Street, then Abassiri's the guy of the defensive line that I think that I'd want to see back more than anybody else.
- 1:29:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:29:13[SPEAKER_03]: As much as like I like Cam Crawford and Braille and Shelby individually and Braille and Shelby is resigned like we mentioned, I'd like those guys individually.
- 1:29:21[SPEAKER_03]: At the same time, I see hasn't produced from the defensive ends and I have a series in the middle has produced.
- 1:29:31[SPEAKER_04]: like he's been productive when he's played and when he's made havoc plays and like I like that I like I like some point you need the production from from your front and at some point you can't afford to lose him you just don't have an up-debt there uh... you know we don't know if Devon Tompkins is coming back i'm kind of assuming he will be but i don't want to see him playing defensive tackle i thought he was so much more effective off the edge please put him back on the edge please
- 1:29:57[SPEAKER_04]: And then you got your team steward who I also would rather see on the edge, but I guess they're going all in on the D.T.
- 1:30:02[SPEAKER_04]: thing.
- 1:30:02[SPEAKER_04]: You got Floyd Bacard and, uh, Jogger at hopefully, but there's you're in transfer rumors sparking around him.
- 1:30:11[SPEAKER_04]: Kobe Pepe is gone, Kishan Silver's gone, uh, Carlin Jones is gone, like, you
- 1:30:16[SPEAKER_04]: you if you lose gd have a serial you are re effectively rebuilding your offensive or your defensive line from scratch and probably leaning very heavily on deep on freshman defensive line man i do not want to see all ready thrown into the fire you say all those guys are gone and i could just hear by what's gone
- 1:30:34[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, it's gone.
