- 0:05On its Welcome back to book Watchers, where the plots don't match and the
- 0:29show doesn't matter. There's so much more in the books anyway. I'm your
- 0:35host, Jacob. I'm still trying to you and the very confused buffering looking
- 0:45dude. Buffer is speaking, sweetheart. I can see the little circle circle
- 0:54like going around your foreheads like I'm trying to comprehend with the hell you said.
- 1:00I am Devin was pop them. Yeah, I just like, I
- 1:08just it's just like the first time I ever turned on a mic and a
- 1:11camera before. Welcome the book Watchers. Yeah, you know, I don't.
- 1:18Yeah, uh, I'm going somewhere with this bear. I'm going somewhere.
- 1:23If you look at a description, you know, the little description when
- 1:26things it's more info, you'll see a link tree that would take you all
- 1:30to the other bullshit that we have other podcasts and wonderful things YouTube channel,
- 1:36twitters, go follow us on Spotify, or have podcasts or YouTube or TikTok.
- 1:44I do need to add the TikTok link to that chant, to that
- 1:47link tree. I'll do that this week. I'm like, I'll do that
- 1:51this week. You'll do it. Eventually. You can do a lot.
- 1:56Okay, there's a little podcast on there. There's a ooky spooky spook oclipse.
- 2:01There's two of the gods that one day might come back. And then
- 2:05there's word Onica, the D and D podcast, which is currently on a
- 2:14slight hiatus. We've busy lived, not really hiatus stop hiatus, just more
- 2:21of like we keep pushing recording episodes like recording dates back. Oh, Sweedy,
- 2:25I haven't posted any of the episodes for the for game two yet,
- 2:30haven't. Oh, I haven't posted it Intovoidonica in over a year. I
- 2:34have thirty plus episodes on the back burner because I wanted to do making a
- 2:38very ambitious project and it turns out I can't do all that, which I'm
- 2:43just one person. So I'll come out with it'll come out soon. It'll
- 2:46come out when it'll come out, when it comes out next month or next
- 2:51month, two months latest, I'll come out. So look forward to that.
- 2:58Yeah. So for vh US Vietn, Oh, my god, remember
- 3:04that. I hope to god Mike. Mike did not catch that. It
- 3:12didn't. But I'm pretty sure I just triggered Johnny. God, No,
- 3:17did I trigger him? My boyfriend did the almost on the holiest of things.
- 3:25And I don't know if I should describe it on the pod. Was
- 3:30it a burp or or a fart? It was a fart, and the
- 3:36holy the Devil's it's a good thing no one has ever invested in. I
- 3:42just want to say it's a good thing. No one invested in technology that
- 3:45replicates uh aromas. I mean, yeah, there's aroma therapy, but like
- 3:52for entertainment purposes, like in movies and you know this, Yeah, well,
- 3:57would you have to do something up your nose? Like no, no,
- 4:00I mean it would just be kind of like it would just be kind
- 4:01of like one of those like uh, what are they called, like aerosolis
- 4:06or things like you know those like those wall mounts where you stick the can
- 4:11of for breeze in there and like every few minutes, it'll just be something
- 4:16like that. But it will like replicate the smells of like, you know,
- 4:20like you're watching an action movie, It'll replicate the smell of all the
- 4:24sweat, blood and ass flying all over the place. See. That would
- 4:28be disgusting, and it's a good thing. No one's invested in that.
- 4:30I don't need. I don't think I need that. I don't think I
- 4:33need that. Hell, people, there are people that will faint at the
- 4:38sight of blood, and then there are people who will faint at the smell
- 4:42of it. So people with hemophobia would be dying in those kind of in
- 4:47those kind of movies, I feel like you're projecting. Is that something new
- 4:53that would happen with you? Dude, Dude, I've grown up, well,
- 4:58I've grown up with Like I used to get nosebleeds all the time,
- 5:03so like, hell, it's it's worse. It was worse when I was
- 5:06a kid. Like now, sometimes I still get them and it's just like
- 5:10a little trickle or like a little drop that will pop out and I'm like,
- 5:13oh okay. But as a kid, I had like rivers coming out
- 5:15of my fucking nose, So blood is not an issue for me. Well,
- 5:24air, I need more. I need more than you love it.
- 5:32I need all the air. I need all the air anyway, But enough,
- 5:41but enough about me instead, let's talk about me and my accomplishments.
- 5:46I'm kidding, what my accomplishments? What a half a page? You want
- 5:55to go there? You really want to go there? I have more accomplishments.
- 5:58Is your name a bloody disgusting article for a movie, I don't think.
- 6:02So it's on a video game what video game? Even falling by Racer
- 6:11Edge Games. It still hasn't been released, but my name will be on
- 6:15there. He'd been talking about that. You can talked about a game like
- 6:18a half a decade ago. It still hasn't been released, but hey,
- 6:24yeah, I know at this point, I wouldn't be surprised it was canceled.
- 6:28But my name was on their website and I was part of the development
- 6:31I was a part of the developing team. And my name was also on
- 6:35an art gallery at the time. I know, not that one, not
- 6:42on that one, but like on others, on others. Good yeah,
- 6:49good for me with imaginary hair that I have. So anyway, moving on
- 6:57from the gay on gay hate crimes, Uh, what are we talking about
- 7:01today? We're gonna be talking about a book series that I wasn't one hundred
- 7:09sure we were going to do, simply because I haven't read all of the
- 7:13books. But what we're gonna end up doing is we're just going to be
- 7:15reading them in installments. If I was laying on my bed, you would
- 7:20see my feet just kind of like that's you're just gonna give the foot people
- 7:27a thing, the latch onto. Hey, whatever gets us those views.
- 7:33I mean, I guess, come on, we gotta pump those numbers up,
- 7:38all right. We want to endorsement from like Audible or like I don't
- 7:41know, like Hyperion Publishing or whatever. It's that Disney publisher. Oh yeah,
- 7:48yeah, So what are we talking about? So? Uh, today
- 7:54we are going to be talking about a very long series. Okay, it's
- 8:00for the avid readers. It's probably not even that long, but fourteen it's
- 8:05fourteen books. That's a long series. The Warhammer. The Warhammer franchise has
- 8:11like over one hundred Hell, the Star Wars franchise has over one hundred and
- 8:18most of the at least the Legends books, those were chronological and can into
- 8:22each other. Hell like uh, and the there was a Star Wars series
- 8:30call about this massive intergalactic war called the Yuzam Vong War heard of. It
- 8:37had like over I think that had over like twenty books, somewhere between twenty
- 8:41to forty books. Huh. Interesting. So anyway, we're reading The Wheel
- 8:52of Time by Robert Jordan, and you're reading The Will of Time. I'm
- 8:58not even gonna try and tackle that shit. Mm hmm, I should say,
- 9:03but we are going but you are, but we are watching it because
- 9:05you've watched it. I've watched it. So The Wheel of Time is a
- 9:11book, but is a book series by a man named Robert Jordan. May
- 9:15he rest in peace. He did unfortunately pass away. Well I should have
- 9:20put that up before we started, but he passed away before the series ended
- 9:24because I think the last last book or two somebody else. It was like
- 9:28the last three or four books, so Robert. So, yeah, just
- 9:33a little fun facts about the Wheel of Time before we get started. Started.
- 9:37Uh. Robert Jordan originally meant for this series to last at least three
- 9:43books, maybe five at the most, but as he continued to develop and
- 9:48write the series and come up with the story overall, there was just so
- 9:54much that he put into it. This was definitely like, there was just
- 9:58so much passion put into this that it ended up stretching to fourteen novels,
- 10:05with the last three I think being written by another author. Let me see
- 10:15here, let me look up Robert Jordan. Yeah, so he passed away
- 10:18September sixteenth, two thousand and seven. His novels were the last few books
- 10:28were finished by another author, Brian Brandon Sanderson. But yeah, let me
- 10:35see Brian Sanderson's YEP fourteen, So Brian sent Brandon Sanderson. I'm sorry.
- 10:48He ended up finishing off Jordan's work with books with the last three books,
- 10:56so twelve, thirteen, and fourteen, So those were the three books that
- 11:01he ended up writing. He was able to close off Jordan's series because Jordan
- 11:05had written so many notes, so many detailed notes, that he had enough
- 11:09to go off of. And I mean, by this point, if he's
- 11:13been he had been following Jordan's work for all this time, you've read all
- 11:18books and can get a good idea of how the characters are light. He
- 11:22was able to finish writing these books with the conclusion to the entire series with
- 11:26A Memory of Light, which is book fourteen. But we're not going to
- 11:31be focusing on book fourteen today. We're going to be focusing on book one,
- 11:35which is called The Eye of the World. Now. Amazon has adapted
- 11:43book one into a series. Has adapted this series into the books into a
- 11:48series. There's currently two seasons out, with each season following along to the
- 11:54plot of the books. So season one, although it does not have the
- 11:58actual name, of the book. It is based off of the wheel uh
- 12:05the eye of the World. So now the thing about the Wheel of Time,
- 12:13I will say is that if you watched the show, whether you've watched
- 12:18it yet, or if you've already watched it or you haven't watched it,
- 12:26you just gotta you gotta remember there's just a lot. There's a lot of
- 12:33lore in this in these books. There's a lot. He ended up.
- 12:37I wasn't kidding when I said that, he ended up just coming up with
- 12:41so much idea, with so many ideas for the story, that he ended
- 12:45up stretching what was originally supposed to be a three three novel series to a
- 12:48fourteen novel series. So and I have to say, like for the people,
- 13:00for anybody who enjoys a book with a lot of diversity, this book
- 13:03has a lot of diversity, all right. It's not just centered around one
- 13:09culture, because in book one, the overall culture that you made notice is
- 13:15like something out of medieval Europe, so like something very similar to English culture.
- 13:24But then as you as the as the characters begin to branch out into
- 13:28the world and more of this world is revealed and described in these books,
- 13:33you realize that there's so many other different cultures that Robert Jordan included in these
- 13:37books, Like he took inspiration from cultures like India, some Southeast Asian countries,
- 13:46other Western and Eastern Europe countries as well. Hell, and he also
- 13:52took inspiration from other authors as well, Like definitely, like I'll I'm just
- 13:58gonna call it out right now, there is a desert people called the a
- 14:01Eel and the I Eel are death yeah based off of they have similarities to
- 14:07the Fremen from Dune Une. Yeah yeah, yeah, but there. The
- 14:13thing is, though, is they're not like whereas the freemen from Doune.
- 14:16Their culture is definitely based off of Middle Eastern culture like Persian and Arabian h
- 14:26The I Eel are very similar to I can't really say Irish or Scottish because
- 14:35they don't wear kilts or they don't have like this typical like I'm sorry,
- 14:39the kilts aren't really defining factor of Irish culture, but there's other things that
- 14:48are typically Irish. Their culture, it's I can't really say what culture they're
- 14:54based off of, but based on like their physical appearance, the eye Eel
- 15:01their overall appearance is similar to like they all have uh, their hair color
- 15:07ranges from like bright red to blonde or even like dark brown but red.
- 15:13Their red hair color is very common mm hmmm. So uh and of course
- 15:20they're very tanse So I would say like there's a there is a culture of
- 15:24there's a small like demographic of people that are born with very pale hair,
- 15:30but they have very dark skin. It's like a. It's like a it's
- 15:33either an Atlantic or Pacific islander people. So they have and their their physical
- 15:41features are very striking because while they have like these very dark uh like they
- 15:46have very dark brown skin, but they have blue eyes and blonde hair.
- 15:52Interesting. Yeah, yeah, there's a there's people I don't know who.
- 15:56I don't know the name of the country or like what where they come from.
- 16:00I'll have to look that up later. But the Isle are kind of
- 16:03the eye Eel are kind of similar. They are their skin isn't really dark,
- 16:07their skin color isn't really dark, but it is described as being very
- 16:11tan due to their to where they come from, which is like a it's
- 16:18like a. I would say the desert land that they come from is very
- 16:21similar to Death Valley, Nevada. So it's not so much as like sandy
- 16:26dunes, like just sand as far as you can see. It's more of
- 16:30like cracked dry earth, desert shrubbery and other like cost like really like harsh
- 16:37party plants that can survive in these kind of climates. The the I Eel
- 16:44are known for being really like they're badass warriors, Like they are badass.
- 16:52But the ee Eel don't really make an appearance in book one. They're kind
- 16:56of like mentioned offhandedly a couple of times here and there, but it isn't
- 17:00until book two and book three that we really start seeing more of the I
- 17:04Eel. And you guys got a love so a lot to look forward to,
- 17:08because honestly, they're probably my favorite, they're my favorite group of characters
- 17:14in this book, in this book series. But we should go ahead and
- 17:19get started on. Let's go ahead and just dive into the story because there
- 17:25is a lot hell. The prologue is this sets up. The prologue takes
- 17:32place three thousand years into the past at the end of what is huh Jesus.
- 17:41Yeah, So the story it's not one of those stories where it'll jump
- 17:47like have different time jumps, like it'll go from like the past to the
- 17:49President of the future, but it references significant events in the past. Real
- 17:59quick time cut the future, Devin cut this part out. I may have
- 18:03to step away just for a second because my aunt is coming over and she
- 18:06needs me to open the door for her. Okay, but she'll be here
- 18:10in a few minutes, so I'll let you know, okay. Anyway,
- 18:15So to start out in the prologue, it takes place in one of the
- 18:22previous ages before the current Age, because the time frame that this book takes
- 18:26place is called the Third Age, with the first age being an age called
- 18:30a time frame called the Age of Legends. The Age of Legends is it's
- 18:37called the Age of Legends because it was a time of pure technological advancement as
- 18:45well as like like we have technological, scientific, philosophical, societal advancement,
- 18:56all right, And in the wheel of time. Since it is a fantasy,
- 19:00well it's not like, it's not just technology. But there's magic.
- 19:03So there are groups. There are people who have the ability to draw energy
- 19:10from this metaphysical force called the one called the True Source. Now, people
- 19:17who are able to draw upon this power are called channelers. And the way
- 19:21the magic works in this world is it's weave based. So when they draw
- 19:26energy, they weave threads of the power together, and depending on how they
- 19:30weave it, and depending on the type of threads that they weave together,
- 19:36they can get different effects. And the threads are what was it talking about?
- 19:41Okay, so chandlers. I could, like, honestly, we could
- 19:45do a whole episode talking about the True Source and how the channelers use their
- 19:49use their magic, but I mean we won't. I won't go too much
- 19:55into it because in book one they don't really talk too much about how the
- 19:59truth so is used or how the magic is woven together. But I will
- 20:04say this, so channelers, even though their power, regardless of their uh
- 20:12channelers was in my train of thought. So the true source all every channeler
- 20:21draws their power from the same place. But the true source itself is has
- 20:25a duality nature all right. In fact, the order of channelers called the
- 20:30isid Eye back in the Age of Legends. They the symbol for their organization
- 20:37their society was the basically it was basically the taois yin yang symbol, so
- 20:42circle with a sinuous line dividing separating it into two halves like one half is
- 20:48white with a little black dot in the center, and the other half is
- 20:52black with a little white dot in the center, So it's like two commas
- 20:56put together. And uh. They use this symbol as a representation of the
- 21:03True Source because the True Source is divided into a male and female half.
- 21:11So the male half, which is black comma, is called siding and the
- 21:18female half, which is the upside down white comma, is called side doc
- 21:25And they represent it this way because men and male and female channelers can only
- 21:33draw power from their respective half of the True Source. So men can only
- 21:37draw on the male half of the True Source while female while women can only
- 21:42draw on the female half, and each half has their own strengths and weaknesses,
- 21:52but one of the biggest, but it does cause a bit of a
- 21:55disconnect between male and female channelers because women are technically weaker channelers than men.
- 22:07Men are able to draw upon more power from the True Source than women are,
- 22:11but whereas the men have just a pure raw strength of the Truth being
- 22:18able to just rely on pure raw strength, but women are able to not
- 22:22only weave more intricate and complex spells, they can also create what create links
- 22:33with each other, so they're able to create emphatic links with other women and
- 22:37even male channelers, and when they do that, it allows them to increase
- 22:41their power and direct a larger flow of the True source. So it's like
- 22:45a form of collaborative magic. Women can do that, but men can't.
- 22:52And there's other things that there are other things that put like that women have
- 22:59that men don't and same with men that and it's the same with the men.
- 23:03And the thing is is that the biggest disc the biggest disconnect between the
- 23:07male and female channelers is that they can't see each other's weaves. So for
- 23:14regular non channeler people, like people who can't channel from the True Horse,
- 23:18they can't see the energy that flows into a channeler or the weaves themselves.
- 23:25So when channeler begins to use their power, like normal people, they don't
- 23:30see anything happening until it happens, right, So if they decide to shoot
- 23:33a fireball, you're not gonna know it's happening until what fireball. Well,
- 23:37But however, female channelers when they begin to draw, when they begin to
- 23:44draw power from the True Horse other two other female channelers, it looks like
- 23:48an aura of golden light appears around them, and it's kind of the same
- 23:53for men. But the thing is, when a male does that and a
- 24:00woman looks at them, they can't tell if they're channeling. They can't see
- 24:03that energy, and they can't see the weaves that they create. So there's
- 24:10a certain So that line in the taois symbol dividing the two halves is basically
- 24:15a line that prevents each other from seeing what the others are doing. Mm
- 24:18hmm. But in the Age of Legends, they it was they were so
- 24:25technologically advanced in both of course, they were so advanced in forms of technology
- 24:30and also weaving that they found ways to get around this, like women can
- 24:34create links with men and allows them to perform collaborative weaves. But it's all
- 24:41done by it's all done based on feel. But things get pretty dramatic.
- 24:49Uh So, towards the end of the Age of Legends, a group of
- 24:55Isidie researchers, they discovered that there was potentially another metaphysical force force out there
- 25:04similar to the True Source, but different altogether similar in that you basically you
- 25:12can weave spells just like you can with a true Source, but unlike unlike
- 25:18the True Source, this new metaphysical power is not divided into male or female
- 25:25house it is just one singular power. So if they figure if they could
- 25:30figure out a way to harness this power, then they basically they will eliminate
- 25:36that barrier separating men and women, truly putting them on equal levels. It
- 25:44won't be just like, oh, women like, women can make can link
- 25:48with each other and weave more complicated flows, and men can like or just
- 25:52have pure raw strength in the power. All right, But the problem was
- 26:00is that this this new metaphysical force was not really meant for them to be
- 26:07used. So this group of channelers, they they theorized the only way to
- 26:12reach this power was to use their power to bore a hole into the fabric
- 26:18of the pattern or reality itself. The pattern is the pattern is basically synonymous
- 26:23with time and space. It's like, you know, the different outcomes of
- 26:27our decisions, because how time works in the wheel of time, of course,
- 26:33is basically it's uh, it's cyclical, so events are constantly repeating themselves,
- 26:40and how the and how the wheel turns depend determines how the pattern it
- 26:45is shaped. It's very complicated. It won't go into it too much,
- 26:51but they thought we're gonna go ahead we're gonna try to reach this new source
- 26:57of power by drilling into the fabric of reality to reach it. But what
- 27:03they didn't know was that one this power comes from a malevolent force, and
- 27:11two they forgot who this malevolent force was because the Age of Legends, it
- 27:19had lasted for so long that the people forgot that in ages long forgotten,
- 27:27there used to be this very powerful adversary that was constantly trying to remake the
- 27:33world in his image, and it was constantly basically just trying to destroy it.
- 27:40And since that they had known, and since the Age of Legends,
- 27:44this society knew nothing but peace for so long, they forgot about this guy.
- 27:48So when they drew, so when they bored the whole into reality,
- 27:52they bore a whole into another dimension that actually happens to be the prison of
- 28:00this outer being called the Dark One. So there is a creator. The
- 28:08people of this series believe in a godly figure they call the Creator. He
- 28:15created everything, He exists in everything. And then for channelers, the true
- 28:19source comes from the Creator. All right, Well, since the Creator represents
- 28:26everything that is light and that exists, the Dark One is the antithesis of
- 28:33the Creator. Is he represents everything that is death and darkness, so non
- 28:38existence. So when these I said, I bored a hole into reality,
- 28:45they bore a hole into the prison that the Creator created to contain the Dark
- 28:49One. And when they did that, his darkness was able to touch the
- 28:56world. And this and this started what became known as the War, the
- 29:03War of power. So the Dark One was able to touch the world,
- 29:08and when he did that, his influence affected millions of people, billions even,
- 29:15and a good number of them decided that they wanted power, like,
- 29:19we don't want to lift this same, repeat, ever, repeating pattern.
- 29:25We wanted to change that. We want to break the pattern, and we're
- 29:29going to pledge ourselves to the Dark One. And out of these people that
- 29:33pledged themselves to the Dark One, there was a group of people called that
- 29:37became known as the Forsaken. The Forsaken was a group of thirteen Isidie who
- 29:41were probably the most powerful channelers of their age. They all declared themselves for
- 29:48the Dark One. The Dark One rewarded them by giving them more power,
- 29:52basically access to that power that they were looking for in the first place.
- 29:56And immortality. So now so chandelers naturally live and live for hundreds of years
- 30:06because of the life giving effects of the True Source, but it doesn't make
- 30:10them immortal. The Dark One gave the Forsaken access to his power, which
- 30:15is actually called the True Power, and with it it makes them immortal and
- 30:22allows them to do things that you couldn't do with the True Source. Like
- 30:26the True Source, you can heal people, but you can't use it to
- 30:29heal yourself. You need to get another channeler to heal you if you're injured
- 30:33or have a disease, whereas the True Power allows you to basically just heal
- 30:37yourself whenever you want. So this war of power lasted for centuries and the
- 30:45Dark was winning. It wasn't until the very end when a very powerful channeler
- 30:52on the side of the Light his name was lose Tharren Teleman lose Tharn realizing
- 31:00that they were going to lose, but he wasn't going to give up without
- 31:03a fight, he gathered together a large force of about ten thousand men,
- 31:11So ten thousands. He gathered an army of about ten thousand men as well
- 31:15as an army of one hundred of his most powerful male channelers, and they
- 31:19launched an all out assault on the Dark One's fortress. And the outcome of
- 31:26this, of this final battle, all ten thousand of his soldiers were killed.
- 31:33The companions, the hundred men that he took with him, the hundred
- 31:38channelers he took with them, they were able to over They were able to
- 31:42overcome the Dark One, the Dark One's servants, the Forsaken, and loose
- 31:49theren Using his power, he was able to seal away the Dark One alongside
- 31:55his thirteen Forsaken. He did this by creating these seals. Now, if
- 32:00you watch the show towards the end of the of the season, you see
- 32:06one of these seals, but it's like this big platform with the the symbol,
- 32:13the ancient symbol of the Isidie engraved on it. Devin, you finished
- 32:16the seat the season, right, it's a finish season one, okay?
- 32:22Cool? So you remember at the end when the main character ran as that
- 32:28final confrontation with the Dark One, note the quotes the Dark One, uh,
- 32:36he bet, And that final confrontation ends with that seal that he was
- 32:39standing on breaking You saw them, Ritt, Yes, Okay, Well,
- 32:49the books the seals are not these big like i'd say about five to six
- 32:54foot six feet in diameter plates. They're actually about the size of a of
- 33:00your average dinner plates. But towards at the end of this final confrontation with
- 33:07the Dark One loose, Darren creates seven seals. These seals, at least
- 33:15in the books, were about frisbee size. They are about the size of
- 33:19your average dinner plate. They were engraved with the symbol of the ancient symbol
- 33:23of the Isid eye. And they were made from this mystical substance called quendolar.
- 33:28Guendolar is this indestructible material. And when I say indestructible, it is
- 33:34truly indestructible. It cannot be broken. It cannot be It doesn't age,
- 33:38it doesn't wear out, it just it's unbreakable. So he created these seven
- 33:45seals and locked the Dark One away alongside his thirteen followers. Now this is
- 33:52where everything goes wrong. He succeeds in ceiling away the Dark One and ceiling
- 33:57the bore that was created by the Isidae, and ceiling away He's thirteen uh
- 34:01and ceiling away of the forsaken. But just as the seals were being put
- 34:08into place, the Dark One used that as an opportunity to initiate counterstroke and
- 34:15this counterstroke was to flood as much of his power into Loose Tharron himself.
- 34:23So when he did that, he infected the male half of the True Source
- 34:32with a taint, this dark, this oily corruptive substance that engulfed the male
- 34:40half of the True Source. And as a direct result of this, every
- 34:47male channeler went mad. It was like a ripple effect. So Lose Thearn
- 34:57and his one hundred and his hundred companions went They were basically at ground zero
- 35:00when this happened, so they all instantly went mad, completely mad, yep.
- 35:07And from there it just spread. So for them they went mad right
- 35:15off the bat. But for other male channelers that were still across the world,
- 35:17they as they begin to as they continue to use the True Source,
- 35:22every time they draw more power from Sidon, they're drawing in that taint,
- 35:28that darkness, and over time causes deterioration of their mind. So they slowly
- 35:35begin to just completely lose their sense of self and they become very dangerous and
- 35:40violent, so too completely to the point where they begin to lash out at
- 35:47everyone around them and they start killing everything around them. So Loose Theren Telemon,
- 35:54who was also known as the Dragon went on a rampage. The Dark
- 36:00One taints the male half of the True Source, causing every male channeler to
- 36:07lose their mind. For losing his hundred companions instantaneous, they all go mad
- 36:14right at that point, everyone else all across the world. Uh. They
- 36:17slowly start losing their minds, but in the end it ends with the same
- 36:22result. They lose their They go mad, and they become extremely violent,
- 36:27and they start lashing out at everything around them. So loose there and tell
- 36:31them on the Dragon succeeded in sealing away the Dark One, thus saving the
- 36:38world, but at the same but at the same time, he broke it.
- 36:45And when this happened, lose. After the Dark One was sealed away,
- 36:53Lose and his hundred companions go on a rampage. Mm hmmm. So
- 37:00they leave, They leave Schilghul, which is the name of the portrait of
- 37:07the Dark One's fortress, and they returned to their homes and they start killing
- 37:14everybody. They're just so At the end of the War of Power, much
- 37:19of the society had it's more or less collapse. A lot of let me
- 37:25tell you something, The War of Power was so devastating, like entire nations
- 37:30were destroyed, landscapes were changed, Mountains were leveled, new mountains were created,
- 37:37Deserts became oceans, oceans, and vice versa. Oceans became deserts.
- 37:43All right, By the end of the War of Power, the landscape wasn't
- 37:46the same. It completely changed. Oh no, no, But then the
- 37:53Breaking of the world happened, and it changed even further because before when Yeah,
- 38:00because before their civilization was still salvageable. They could still rebuild, all
- 38:08right, much of their society was still standing, all right, it's pretty
- 38:13much left had escaped the destruction of the Dark One's forces. Yeah, but
- 38:17then the Dark One was sealed away, and all the male Channelers all across
- 38:22the world began to go mad, and they all started going on rampages,
- 38:27killing everything and everyone, destroying cities, reshaping landscapes. It was a bloodbath.
- 38:36So this started the Second Age, which only lasted about like a couple
- 38:39centuries, and that was called the break. It was called the breaking of
- 38:44the world. So male channelers rampaging, destroying everything. Towards the end of
- 38:51this chapter. This was all happening in the prologue. When I just want
- 38:53to point that out, I may have thrown at a little extra information there,
- 38:59but like not everything. I went a little too further into detail.
- 39:01But still this is all. This is still the prologue and the dark So
- 39:08towards the end of this chapter Loose that we find Loose there and is uh.
- 39:15He had returned to his home. He had like his own castle fortress,
- 39:21and everyone in his home was dead. He had killed everyone by sending
- 39:28out this creating this pulse of lightning that just instantaneously fried everyone to death,
- 39:35including his wife and children. Mm hm, So like you do when you
- 39:44go mad, So Loose Darren ended up killing everyone, including his family,
- 39:49And so we find him sending in his homes, running by his dead loved
- 39:54ones. And suddenly another another figure, a dark figure. Years now the
- 40:00book makes it seem like this is the dark one. Mm hmm, all
- 40:07right, but this figure addresses himself as Baltimore. I'm sorry, Uh,
- 40:20it's not balt themore, it's something else. Yeah, come on, come
- 40:31on, I don't want to really spoil it by just telling you, like
- 40:42who this figure really is, but honestly, but honestly, Season two of
- 40:49Real Have Time spoils who this figure really is because like you actually don't figure
- 40:55out who this guy is until book three, who this guy really is until
- 41:00three. So I'm just thinking, should I just tell you guys now?
- 41:06I mean spoiler alert, you know why I hear It's get five to ten
- 41:10seconds, okay, because so at this point I know most of the names
- 41:19of all of the Forsaken. Let me see here, because he calls himself
- 41:30something else, what does he call himself? It was like Balsamon. That's
- 41:38so the figure that appears is just an operation. It's not physical. He's
- 41:44not physically there. And he addresses himself as Balzamon. Spoiler alert, it's
- 41:51actually one of the Forsaken. It's not the dark it's not the Dark One
- 41:57himself, but a certain leader of the Forsaken. The had the chief lieutenant
- 42:05of the Dark One and general of the other of the Forsaken. When they
- 42:13were sealed away, this particular Forsaken was only half sealed. So because of
- 42:20that, the Forsaken when they were sealed away, they were locked in this
- 42:24supposedly eternal dreamless sleep. And but this guy, Balzaman, or at least
- 42:34he calls himself Balzamon, was only half sealed, and this particular Forsakin has
- 42:40an ability called dream walking, so whenever, so even though he's half sealed,
- 42:45he ends up enduring this cycle of dreamless sleep to somewhat half awareness.
- 42:53So he's still asleep, but he's become aware. Every few centuries he becomes
- 42:59aware, like he wakes, so to speak. And when he does this,
- 43:04he begins using his power of dream walking to enter the dreams of other
- 43:08people. So this is kind of how he was able to This is kind
- 43:13of how he was able to project his consciousness in front of Louis then,
- 43:17because he was still only half sealed, and so he's still able to touch
- 43:22this forsaken was still able to touch the world. So he so he appears
- 43:28before lose Tharn and begins taunting him and talking about how this is just going
- 43:34to be a repeat of an endless cycle of repeating events. And the thing
- 43:39is he realizes, like, wait, this is no fun. I'm gloating
- 43:43slash mocking you and you're still half You're still completely mad, lost in your
- 43:47madness. So Balzamon uses his power to push back the madness so kind of
- 43:54restore a bit of Los's lucidity, as you could say. And when Louise
- 44:05theren comes back to himself. Alzamon like mocks him some more and points out,
- 44:09look what you've done. And that's when the dragon looks down and realizes
- 44:14he's killed everybody he's loved, and in this moment of just pure grief,
- 44:20h Lose then draws in an obscene amount of energy from the true source.
- 44:28Now, the thing about chandlers is that they're like batteries, all right.
- 44:30And the thing about batteries is that they can only hold so much energy,
- 44:36all right. Some can hold more than others, but the result is always
- 44:38the same if you overcharge it. And that's exactly what happens to Lose,
- 44:47Uh accept being the most powerful male channeler of his age. That turned out
- 44:55to be a very powerful blast, so deadly and so devastating that it literally
- 45:02tore a hole into the earth, creating a volcano. So he kills himself
- 45:10or I'm sorry, he unalives himself in a fiery flash of lights, like
- 45:16a bolt of lightning shoots down from the sky, strikes him. He explodes.
- 45:22That blast bores right through the Earth's cross releasing a huge flow of lava
- 45:29that creates a new volcano. Because the area that where his palm was was
- 45:35actually like kind of like a flat foresty area, maybe like slightly hill known
- 45:39mountain in sight. Well, now there's a mountain volcano and yep, three
- 45:47thousand years later, that very volcano becomes known as the Dragon Mountain, the
- 45:52place of Loos, Theren's death, and in the wake of his death,
- 46:00of course, the world continues to break three thousand years later. So three
- 46:07thousand years later, the Age of Legends is just that, an age of
- 46:10legends. Most people have forgotten many of the significant historical events that happened.
- 46:17Everything that's happened in the Age of Legends is just myth now. But one
- 46:21thing everybody remembers vividly and still and still fear was the breaking of the world.
- 46:28Once the because the age of mad the age of Madness or the breaking
- 46:36of the world was the came to an end when the remaining channelers, the
- 46:40female channelers that were left, they came together and they completely obliterated, They
- 46:46completely wiped out all the male channelers. Sadly, that was the only way
- 46:53that they could protect the world was by killing their loved ones, killing all
- 47:00the men and the isidi as it was collapsed and became divided. So now
- 47:07three thousand years later than. The Isidi that exists in the Third Age is
- 47:13a society of all of all women channelers. They their symbol, the Taoist
- 47:20symbol has been divided, and has also been divided, so it is no
- 47:24longer the Yin yang symbol is not really used as the whole singular piece.
- 47:31But now the new symbol of the Iida is the upside down white comma.
- 47:38So that symbol is called the Flame of tarv Along, which is the city
- 47:45that the iid I make their home in, which is actually it's at the
- 47:51base of the Dragon mount where the where the dragon killed himself. M m.
- 47:59So, now, one thing I love about those books, Robert Jordan
- 48:06starts off every book with pretty much like the first chapter of every book.
- 48:12It starts off pretty much the same. So I'm just going to read you
- 48:17like the first paragraph. The wheel of time turns, and ages come and
- 48:23pass, leaving memories that become legend, legend fades to myth, and even
- 48:30myth is long forgotten. When the age that gave gave it birth comes again
- 48:35in one age called the Third Age by some an age yet to come,
- 48:38an age long pass. A wind rose in the mountains of mysts. The
- 48:43wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning
- 48:47of the wheel of time, but it was a beginning. So that's like
- 48:54a perfect description of how time works in the Wheel of Time because it's citlical,
- 48:59it's sick goal mm hmm. So everything that happened uh in these books
- 49:06have already happened before, but it happened so long ago that it's been long
- 49:10forgotten. Hell, Like, funny thing was is that Amazon the producers of
- 49:16the Amazon Prime show Uh said that when they were asked why did they make
- 49:23so many changes from the books, they just decided they they get I'll give
- 49:29them this, they get this, this pass because they're like, well,
- 49:31wheel of time is cyclical, so you know, events are always repeating themselves,
- 49:38but they're always slightly different from the last. No, Like that's fair,
- 49:45that's fair. I'll give you that. Your bastards utilize that, utilize
- 49:49the themes story themes to their advantage. I mean it works. The show
- 49:54was for what it was. The show is good. There's a lot that
- 49:58they changed and there was a lot that they took out. They either excluded
- 50:02or they maybe something new. But We'll get to it as we get to
- 50:06it. Uh So. The story starts with five young individuals that live in
- 50:15a small land called the Two Rivers. They all live are living out their
- 50:22lives in this small village of Emmonsfield. These five characters that the story is
- 50:29centered around is three boys Rand al Thor parent Avara I'm sorry, parent Ibarra,
- 50:38and Matt Trim Coffin or Matt m and Igwayne Alvier and the village Wisdom
- 50:47Or She's basically like the herbalist slash healer slash doctor slash corporal punishment Ninive al
- 50:58Murrah. These these five characters, they're just living their normal lives. Paren
- 51:04is a blacksmith's apprentice. Matt helps his father with the farm with his farm.
- 51:09Rand does the same. He's a sheep herder and well. Ninive is
- 51:15the Wisdom of the village. Ikwaine is the daughter of the village innkeeper and
- 51:22she's the apprentice to Ninive to become the next Wisdom. All these characters are
- 51:29are pretty young. Their their ages range from like their late teens to their
- 51:32early twenties early twenties, with Ninive being somewhere in her mid twenties. She's
- 51:38the oldest out of all of them, and so they're pretty much they're going
- 51:45about their normal lives. They're preparing for a sort of like harvest festival called
- 51:52bell Time. And as they're getting rid. As they're preparing for this upcoming
- 51:58festival, two strangers enter the village, a noble woman by the name of
- 52:05Moraine Demadrid and her bodyguard Alan Mandragerin Now, for people from Eman's Field,
- 52:19they're a pretty isolated community. Anything the villages that are in the two Rivers,
- 52:23they're pretty isolated from the rest of the world, so they don't really
- 52:27see many newcomers, many outsiders. So many time there's anybody like besides like
- 52:31peddlers and merchants that come through throughout the year, it's always it's always a
- 52:37bit of a like, it's always newsworthy, like, oh hey, there's
- 52:40somebody new in the village. Who could that be? Though, they all
- 52:45notice that there's something off about these two strangers. Morain is going around asking
- 52:52people questions, particularly about any young individuals that were born roughly twenty years ago,
- 52:59and she was and she's asking whether or not they were born in the
- 53:01village, and slowly the group notices that her attention begins to focus more on
- 53:09the three young men, Matt, Parent and Ran. She talks to them,
- 53:15asks them a few questions, just harmless questions. Really, it just
- 53:17seems like more of like polite. She's very polite, but you could tell
- 53:22that she is, like you know, used to being in charge and used
- 53:24to getting answers she wants. But it's clear she has a it's clear that
- 53:30she's interested in these three young men specifically, and at one point she gives
- 53:36each of them a silver mark with the uh a Tarbalon mark. So,
- 53:42of course, if you follow h of course, if you follow like history
- 53:46and stuff like that. Back in the day, every city, state or
- 53:51nation had their own like currency system with their own like gold silver standards that
- 53:57are stamped and everything like that. Well, silver Tarblon mark has a image
- 54:02of a woman on one side and the flame of Tarbalon on the other.
- 54:07If you want to know what the flame of Tarbolon looks like, uh,
- 54:10you know, I'll actually post one in the chat for you, Devin see
- 54:14it? Yes, please do? Okay? So, like I said,
- 54:20it's basically just an upside down comma mm hmmm, and funnily just like well.
- 54:27Fun fact, the other half of the tart of the yin yang symbol,
- 54:32the black comma, is used in the present age as a symbol for
- 54:38dark friends, people who still pledge themselves to the dark one. And it's
- 54:43called the dragons fang mm hmm. Interesting and usually some and sometimes the dragons
- 54:52fang is used as a way like kind of like a uh so certain controversial
- 55:01real life group whose initials start with three KSh. Usually those guys will burn
- 55:12across in your front yard if they don't like you. Well. In the
- 55:15wheel of time, there is a group similar to them and who make it
- 55:20their life's mission to hunt out dark friends as well as hunt as well as
- 55:27hunt down isid Eye channelers, So they're witch hunt basically a group of witch
- 55:32hunters, and they think anybody who channels is a friend of the dark,
- 55:37regardless of the fact that they actually fight for the Light. And if they
- 55:42suspect you of being a dark friend, they will scrawl they will scrawl the
- 55:47dragon's fang on your on your door because even if they don't even if they
- 55:52don't have proof that you are dark friends, they like to make trouble by
- 55:57doing shit like that. They're called the children of the Light hate them.
- 56:00They're like the work. They're the absolute worst, even though they're supposed to
- 56:06be a good guy quote unquote good guys, and they fight the dark.
- 56:08They're just a whole organization of scumbags. And they wear all white. I
- 56:15don't trust people who wear all white, near do I. But we will.
- 56:23The children like do make an appearance in this book, but we'll get
- 56:25to that when we get to that. So not long after Moraine and Land
- 56:34make their appearance in Emonsfield, the village comes under attack by a group of
- 56:38creatures called trolucks. Traluks or half men are these anthropomorphic chimera. So furries
- 56:50don't come for furries, don't come for me when I say this, But
- 56:53think of all of your first Sona fantasies, but twist them and make them
- 56:59ugly. And that's which you got for a trolloc. Because trollocks range from
- 57:06looking from like half men, half wolves or dogs, half men, half
- 57:10goat creatures, half men, half bird creatures without just they just have beaks
- 57:15and feathers and maybe like the talent for feet. But other than that,
- 57:22they're ugly, They stink, they kill, and they'll eat anything in sight,
- 57:30and trollocks are led by another form of half men, because usually like
- 57:38these dark creatures that fight for the dark one are you know, are generally
- 57:45referred to as half men. But they're broken down into creatures like prolucs,
- 57:51which is what I just described, and another creature called mirar drawl or fates.
- 57:57These half the miar Drawl, are more intelligent than their idiotic trollock cousins.
- 58:05They are described as having gray skin. They wear these black coat cloaks
- 58:08that even when they move around or like if there's wind, the cloaks don't
- 58:15even like billow in the wind or even shift. They just kind of like
- 58:19hang there, which is very unnerving. But the most like disturbing feature about
- 58:23them is that they got no eyes where their eyes should be. It is
- 58:29just like a flat face. It's just like a flat face. It's weird.
- 58:37The mirror drawl have abilities, so to speak. They're able to fade
- 58:43into shadows and appear and disappear in a shadow, and somehow that gives allows
- 58:50them to travel from place to place almost instantaneously. They can create a link
- 58:57with themselves to the trollocks that they are leading, So this allows them to
- 59:00control the Tralucks and direct them more easily, because without a mirror draw to
- 59:07direct and commands, the Triloic force Trlucks will just kill everything indiscriminately, even
- 59:13each other. And yeah, but usually it's other non Trillucks. But if
- 59:20they got nothing else to kill or fight, they'll just start fighting or killing
- 59:22each other. So a huge band, like a small band of Tralucks attack
- 59:29Emonsfield Rand is with his father a few miles outside of the village, but
- 59:32the Trilucks do attack that His father, who his whole life he thought was
- 59:39just a normal farmer, pulls out a sword and starts fighting the trlucks back,
- 59:46and the two of them managed to escape, but his father Tam is
- 59:52wounded unfortunately. And the problem with problem with getting a wound from a Trollock
- 1:00:00blade is Trillic blades the way that they are designed and the way that they
- 1:00:04are made, they're made to not only be deadly, but also to be
- 1:00:08toxic. So if you get if you get a wound from one of their
- 1:00:12blades, it'll fester and get infected really quickly. So unless you have a
- 1:00:19specific type of medicine to to treat it, or an I said eye to
- 1:00:25heal it, you won't survive, so Brand desperate to help his father.
- 1:00:32He doesn't know this because he's because no one in Emonsfield has ever seen a
- 1:00:37trollic before, except maybe Tam, because, as as it's revealed later,
- 1:00:42Tam used to be a soldier who fought in the i El Wars, and
- 1:00:45he may and he may have encountered trollics at one point. It's implied that
- 1:00:50he has fought trollics before, but it's never really confirmed. But so anyway,
- 1:00:57he drags his wounded father back to the village and he finds that it
- 1:01:00is in a state of disarray. The trollocks had already been driven from the
- 1:01:04village because think about trollucks is that even though they'll kill anything in sight,
- 1:01:08they're also cowards. So if you managed to like stand up to them,
- 1:01:12they will run away. They realize like, oh shit, we've bit off
- 1:01:15too big of a handle, We've bid off too much more than we can
- 1:01:19handle. They'll run. So the villagers were able to rally themselves and they
- 1:01:25they drove off the small force of trollics. And it was also thanks to
- 1:01:30no small part to Moraine and Land because you've seen episode one for those of
- 1:01:39you who've seen the show, you know, in the show, when the
- 1:01:42Trillucks attack, Moraine reveals herself to be a nice to die and she uses
- 1:01:47her power to fight the Trollucks and drive them from the to drive them from
- 1:01:52the village. Which it was this really cool spectacle, I know that got
- 1:01:55you hooked on the show. That got you hooked on the show. Yeah,
- 1:02:00it sure did. Yeah, well, they there was the Unfortunately in
- 1:02:07the book, there wasn't any of that. Rand doesn't even from Rand's perspective.
- 1:02:10He doesn't get a chance to see it. He just hears about He
- 1:02:13just hears about it secondhand. And it really wasn't much. She chucked a
- 1:02:17few fireballs and called down a bolt of lightning and that was enough to like
- 1:02:22send their trollocks running. And of course they also and of course they also
- 1:02:27saw a land using his sword work to drive to fight back, so they
- 1:02:31were able to defend and drive the small force of Trollucks away from the village.
- 1:02:37When Rand realizes that Moraine is an isid eye because when she appears in
- 1:02:42the village in the book, she doesn't reveal herself to be an isid i
- 1:02:46and which is common, which is actually really common for the iid eye when
- 1:02:50they're traveling. They don't really tell you that they're ice ad i unless you
- 1:02:53actually know what to look for in terms of physical description of an isid eye.
- 1:03:00Kah, you won't really because why would they tell you. Yeah,
- 1:03:05because in uh while most lands universally they are the isidai are feared, but
- 1:03:13in a more of like a respectful way, like it's in more of that
- 1:03:16kind of like respectfully feared, like Okay, we know these these these ladies
- 1:03:22are are some bad bitches, so you don't want to fuck with them,
- 1:03:24right uh. And they're small and there are certain small nations that just outright
- 1:03:32hate them. There's one nation called Amadisha, which is where the Children of
- 1:03:37the Light or the White Cloaks come from. That is that is the country
- 1:03:43that they have their home base. And there's another country called Tier. Channeling
- 1:03:50is completely illegal, but whenever a girl uh begins showcasing their ability to channel,
- 1:03:57they are tipped off. They don't kill them, they just ship them
- 1:04:00off. They're like, all right, we don't watch you here, so
- 1:04:01they'll just ship They'll just send them to Tarblan so they can start their training
- 1:04:05as an isidye damn yep uh so. But that is like the main that
- 1:04:12I just want to put that out. That's a big difference from the book.
- 1:04:15In the move and the show and the show, when Moraine shows up,
- 1:04:18she immediately flashes her sit her ring and everyone realizes Iceidi, because isid
- 1:04:29I. They all wear these rings. The way the rings look like in
- 1:04:33the show is different from how they are described in the book and the show.
- 1:04:36There are these golden rings with they're kind of like these big bulky rings
- 1:04:41with like a different colored gem, and the color of the gem usually describes
- 1:04:45which Aja they're from. Mm hmm. We'll talk about the ajas a little
- 1:04:49bit later, but Moraine is from the Blue Aja. Though she's very on
- 1:04:57brands even in the book, because she wears she usually wears all blue silk
- 1:05:02dresses. In the book, she wears a golden chain headdress with a bluestone
- 1:05:10on it. Yeah, And when she's first introduced, she's actually carrying a
- 1:05:15like an ivory, like a wooden staff, like a white wood staff.
- 1:05:18What she uses she'll you'll see throughout the book she'll use it as like an
- 1:05:23arcane focus to like shoot fireballs and like help her weave her to help her
- 1:05:30channel, but she'll we'll get to that, and we'll get to that later.
- 1:05:36Now, I want to point out that Moraine in the Boot, in
- 1:05:40the TV show and then the book are simultaneously very similar to each other but
- 1:05:45different. So in the show, Moraine is like, right off the bat,
- 1:05:51she tells the She tells the five main characters that the reason why she's
- 1:05:57here in Emonsfield is because she suspects that the dragon reborn. The dragon was
- 1:06:02reborn, lous theren Talaman has finally been reborn, and it could be one
- 1:06:09of it could be one of you five individuals. She immediately tells them right
- 1:06:15off the bat, I'm looking for the dragon reborn. But in the book
- 1:06:21she doesn't tell him shit. So the thing about Moraine is Moraine comes from
- 1:06:29she is actually she is a noble woman. She actually did come from a
- 1:06:33country called Kerahin. And the thing about cara Hein is that they have this
- 1:06:38practice called the game of Houses, which we had this discussion, which is
- 1:06:43probably where the Game of Thrones got its inspiration from. And yeah, and
- 1:06:49before you guys try to telling me no Game of Thrones was original, I
- 1:06:53want you to look up the publishing dates for the Game of Thrones and for
- 1:06:57uh for we and you'll find that book too, which is when the Game
- 1:07:02of Thrones is the Game of Houses is first mentioned. That book was published
- 1:07:08well before Game of Thrones ever came out. So don't talk. Don't talk
- 1:07:13to me about Oh, he stole that from Game of Thrones. No he
- 1:07:15didn't. He invented it. So the thing is, Moraine, the thing
- 1:07:21about the Game of Houses is that is basically a political game manipulation and trying
- 1:07:30to get one about, like one over the next, every noble trying to
- 1:07:33get one over the next noble in line. And Morain she just outright she's
- 1:07:41very manipulative. In fact, it she's she can be subtle when she's in
- 1:07:45her manipulations. But the thing is, it's kind of it's very clear that
- 1:07:48she's trying to like, it's very clear that she's trying to influence you to
- 1:07:54go in the direction that she wants you to go. Yeah, right,
- 1:07:58And she is good. She knows how to do her shit, whereas the
- 1:08:01Moraine in the show, she does it. It's clear that she does manipulate
- 1:08:05people, but at the same time it's just more of like she's more kind
- 1:08:11of upfront with it, like, Hey, I need you guys to come
- 1:08:16with me to tarble on because I think one of because I think one of
- 1:08:19you is the dragon reborn. Now, you can either stay here and wait
- 1:08:24for the trollic forces to come and kill and capture you or kill you,
- 1:08:28or you can come with me and you can save the rest of your village.
- 1:08:30Whereas the marine in the book, she's just like, well, I
- 1:08:35don't know, yeah, I don't know why these trollocks came here, but
- 1:08:40you know what, from what I've gandered, they have a strange I couldn't
- 1:08:47help but notice that they focus their attention on you three boys. They attacked
- 1:08:53your farm, rent, they attacked your farm ran, and they attacked your
- 1:08:58father's farm, uh Matt. And they also came for the house that your
- 1:09:02family owns here in the village. And then they also attacked the smithy,
- 1:09:10the smithy shop where your apprentice at parent And that interesting, how weird,
- 1:09:17That's so weird, you know what. They have a strange fascination with you
- 1:09:20guys. And look, don't take my word for it, but I think
- 1:09:25the three of you may be in danger. And until we figure out why,
- 1:09:30oh, no, no, no, you're not. I don't think
- 1:09:31you're a dark friend, definitely not. But it's concerning. It's concerning,
- 1:09:40and I think you should come with me to travel on where we can figure
- 1:09:43things out and where you guys will be safe. Oh, don't worry about
- 1:09:46your village. They don't care about your village. They care about you three.
- 1:09:49You come with me, your village will be safe. I see what
- 1:09:53she did there, Ah, she doesn't see. She does not reveal at
- 1:09:59all, at least like hell, she doesn't even reveal to them even at
- 1:10:01the end of the book. She doesn't even reveal to them, to them
- 1:10:04why she came to the village in the first place, and that is to
- 1:10:09seek out loose there in Taliman Reborn or the Dragon Reborn. And I wonder
- 1:10:14why she told them in the I don't know, but I mean I think
- 1:10:19for they really played on the whole, like isid I can't lie because the
- 1:10:25iid I when a sister of the order ascends to their full rank, because
- 1:10:30there's like there's three levels in their training. There is the novice, which
- 1:10:34is like the like that's their beginning. They start training how to learn how
- 1:10:39to channel and all the ways of the isid I, and then after they
- 1:10:43reach a certain point, they are elevated to the level of accepted, which
- 1:10:46is like basically it's more of like an adept learner. So they've they've got
- 1:10:53experience, they have more knowledge and how to use the source response, the
- 1:10:57true source responsibly, and then that's where they bet to really learn what it
- 1:11:00means to be in Isidaie. Of course, they they're able to like continue
- 1:11:05their own studies at their studies at their own pace instead of like the strict
- 1:11:10regiment that they have as an officis. And they also begin to study and
- 1:11:14figure out which Aja would I fit better in because there are seven as in
- 1:11:20uh in the Isidie blue, red, green, yellow, white, gray,
- 1:11:28and brown. I always forget about brown. Oh yeah, brown,
- 1:11:36yep. Each Aja has their own specialty and has their own like sort of
- 1:11:43role that they play in the world. Ultimately, they're all hoping to guide.
- 1:11:48Their ultimate goal is to guide the world in the right direction and prepare
- 1:11:54themselves for the final battle, which is known as tom or guided. All
- 1:11:59right, and so with Moraine being a blue Aja in the show, they
- 1:12:06call them the spies. They're the ones that they tend to be like the
- 1:12:12lone Wolves. They do a lot of traveling, they gather information, but
- 1:12:17really it's more complex. They take up the blues. They take up causes,
- 1:12:24all right. If they find the cause that they believe will lead a
- 1:12:29nation, a person, like an influential person, or entire group of people
- 1:12:34in the right direction, that will make things more favorable, not only for
- 1:12:38Tarbalon but for the world. They will, they'll take up that cause.
- 1:12:44They'll they'll do they they Yeah, they hard coremulate. They'll manipulate these people,
- 1:12:50but really the manipulation is all for the greater good in the end.
- 1:12:55Whereas like the Red Aja, which honestly, the Red Ajia is my least
- 1:12:59favorite because for one thing, they are a group of massandrists. For those
- 1:13:05of you who don't know, it's like misogynists, except women who hate men
- 1:13:13read isaid I have the Red Ajia. Their main role is to hunt down
- 1:13:19any male channeler, capture them, bring them to Tarbalan. Well that where
- 1:13:24they will be gentled. And gentling is when you are permanently severed from the
- 1:13:30source. You're not dead, but your wish will be dead. Because thing
- 1:13:34about the source is that it is addictive drawing upon that energy into yourself.
- 1:13:40It gives you like this, like it's like it's like being on crack.
- 1:13:44All right, everything is dialed up to is dial up to twenty all right,
- 1:13:47your senses you just you feel more alive and rejuvenated. Yeah, all
- 1:13:54right. But being cut off from it permanently, it's like being it's like
- 1:13:59being forced to go, like cut yourself off from an addictive substance cold turkey,
- 1:14:04except that addiction never goes away, and in the end most people who
- 1:14:10have been severed because so severed or severing is the gender neutral term for the
- 1:14:16process of being cut off from the source. Men are gentled while women are
- 1:14:23stilled. So same shit, just the gender like the term that is more
- 1:14:30gender specific. So that's what the Reds do. The Yellows are the healers.
- 1:14:35They study healing and any form of healing practices and they use their power
- 1:14:41to heal, even though they're not very good at it, which is later
- 1:14:45revealed. The Greens are known as the battle Aja. They're called that because
- 1:14:51every iceid eye, unless you're a Red Reds, they don't do this,
- 1:14:58but every Aja, every isid eye takes on a bodyguard called a water,
- 1:15:02which is what plan is and these words uh. They are their protectors,
- 1:15:08their bodyguards, their companions. When they take on a worder, the isid
- 1:15:14eye will create a they'll bond with their water, which is they create a
- 1:15:17permanent emphatic link with their water. So they're basically synchronizing themselves with their with
- 1:15:26their order, so they can they can feel whatever their word is feeling,
- 1:15:30so like their moods or like if their their water is in pain, they
- 1:15:33can feel that. But it's not really just so they can feel what their
- 1:15:38word is feeling and vice versa. It's more so that way, the water
- 1:15:42gets some extra benefits from being bonded to an isid eye, like uh,
- 1:15:46it's hinted that they live longer, so like they get so their life is
- 1:15:51extended more, they their senses become heightened, and overall they become like better
- 1:16:00Dodd for doing their job for survival and for protecting their Isidie. Now the
- 1:16:04Green Aja now typically isid I only take on one water, but members of
- 1:16:12the Green Aja traditionally will take on more. They'll take on as many as
- 1:16:16like eight at a time. And they do this because they are preparing themselves
- 1:16:23for the final battle. So they train themselves to be more ready to fight.
- 1:16:27They take on extra warters, so like they're ready to lead an entire
- 1:16:30battalion of like the souped up soldiers into the final battle. And you see
- 1:16:39blue, red, green, yellow, see here. The brown Aja they
- 1:16:45are the scholars. They study history x. Their goal is to preserve knowledge
- 1:16:51in any capacity as they can. The White Aja they are the They are
- 1:16:58the logical ones and honestly the most useless out of the all the Ajas.
- 1:17:02And then there's the gray Aza, which are the politicians. They are the
- 1:17:09leaders, so to speak. They tend to take more a more active role
- 1:17:15in UH negotiations, establishing treaties between nations, anything political. They specialize in
- 1:17:23it. Now, there is an unofficial eighth Asia, but it's it's called
- 1:17:30the It's a hidden Aja that the other Ajas fear because if it is true
- 1:17:38that this Aja exists, then that means darkness has touched even them. And
- 1:17:43this Aja is called the Black Aja. And they're the Isida who pledge themselves
- 1:17:48to the Dark One. They're not like the Forsaken, but they still serve
- 1:17:51the Dark One and they're considered Dark friends. So uh yeah, so morain,
- 1:17:59Sorry, I went off on a whole tangent. There's just so much
- 1:18:01lore in this shit. Huh, there's so much shit. Yeah, there's
- 1:18:10so much. Yeah, there's a lot, So just get back on track.
- 1:18:15Moraine convinces so. In the In the show, Moraine takes Rand,
- 1:18:21Paren, Matt, and Igwayne because she thinks those four could be the Dragon
- 1:18:27Reborn and somewhat to an extent, Ninive, even though Ninive is too is
- 1:18:31way older than the age that she suspects the Dragon Reborn would be by now,
- 1:18:39but Ninive ends up joining them, but not until much later in the
- 1:18:43book. However, she's not really concerned with I, GWayne or Ninive.
- 1:18:47She's She's actually more focused on Paren, Matt, and Rent because they're all
- 1:18:54the same age, about twenty years old, and it was clear that the
- 1:19:00Trolks were focusing on those three, so she takes them. So she convinces
- 1:19:04the three of them to leave Emonsfield with her and head to Tarve along will
- 1:19:10be not only be safe, but it will also draw the dark Dark Forces
- 1:19:14away from their village to protect it. Now as they're leaving. In the
- 1:19:18book, Igwaine actually ends up jumping on this bandwagon because she realizes that she
- 1:19:28wants more from life than that of a village wisdom. You know, there's
- 1:19:31a simple, small villager and Moraine readily accepts her as a part of their
- 1:19:38crew because Morain realized sees something in Igwuayine that is actually beneficial more Igwaine as
- 1:19:47the spark she has the inborn spark to become to become an is at eye.
- 1:19:55So with thinking about channelers, there are two types of channelers aside from
- 1:19:59the genders. There are channelers who are born with the ability to channel,
- 1:20:04so like they'll naturally develop they'll naturally touch the source on their own, which
- 1:20:11can be dangerous without guidance, but still they'll develop the ability on their own
- 1:20:16and naturally the ice that I really want to find these people because if they
- 1:20:21don't and they touch the source without guidance, they could die because the source
- 1:20:28first. Touching the source for the first time without somebody to help you or
- 1:20:30to guide you can be fatal. And then the other type are people who
- 1:20:35can learn how to channel. Now they're not uncommon, but they're not as
- 1:20:41rare as people born with the ability. So if the thing is channelers can
- 1:20:47sense can feel like a certain sense of like I don't want to say relation,
- 1:20:55but like they're like a certain sense of closeness with people who have the
- 1:21:00ability to channel, even if it's whether it's the inborn spark or the ability
- 1:21:05to learn. Yeah, So Moraine quickly realized that that Igwaine and even Ninive
- 1:21:15had both had the spark to be inborn spark to channel. The thing is.
- 1:21:20At first, Moraine brushes off nine Eve because Ninive is too old.
- 1:21:27Usually they only accept channel the I said, I will only accept young women
- 1:21:31of a certain age, but once they reach us, once they are past
- 1:21:35a certain point, they won't accept them, even if they are like very
- 1:21:40powerful channelers, if they had the potential to be a very powerful channeler,
- 1:21:44there's like, no, you're too old, Like, no, you're too
- 1:21:48old. And also Ninive is very combative and had no interest in any dealings
- 1:21:54with the isid eye. So Moraine was willing to just let her slide.
- 1:21:59Whereas Igwayne was just the right age and Moraine was like, all right,
- 1:22:03let's go and she proves and Maureene does does prove that Egwaine has the natural
- 1:22:11spark by doing a test with her. So she wears that headdress I mentioned
- 1:22:15earlier with that blue stone. She uses it as a bit of like a
- 1:22:18like a focus, and what she does is she channels some power into it.
- 1:22:25And the way this, the way the test work is it's meant to
- 1:22:28like draw out the ability in another in Igwaine. So when she channels into
- 1:22:35the gem, she causes it to like light up, to blink with light
- 1:22:40a few times. And she does this until Igwaine's own natural channeling ability appears
- 1:22:46and makes the stone light up herself, and depending on how bright the stone
- 1:22:53lines up, determines like, oh well, how powerful you are and the
- 1:22:57source And when she does this, power comes out and makes the stone blink
- 1:23:03a bright flash of light. And Morain's like that last that last little flash
- 1:23:09of light was was all you. And from what I could sell, they're
- 1:23:13pretty powerful. So that's why. So that was the original reason why Iguayne
- 1:23:21was included in this. She was not actually considered to be potentially the dragon
- 1:23:26reborn. It was mainly just the three boys. Uh. So this small
- 1:23:33party begins to journey north. They reach ah they reached a village called arran
- 1:23:42Fair uh Terrence Ferry m hm. And they make their way north. They're
- 1:23:50continuously pursued by the Trlus and mere draw and along the way they meet a
- 1:24:00bard or a Gleaman by the name of uh Tom Marilyn. Now in the
- 1:24:08show, Tom does make an appearance in like I think episode two or it
- 1:24:15was either two or three, just after they had to escape this dark city
- 1:24:19called Shadar Lookoth. But in reality, in the book, Tom Marylyn actually
- 1:24:29comes to was first introduced in emons Field. He came to the village.
- 1:24:33He came to the village because of the Baltine festival, and he ends up
- 1:24:39going along with them because he decides he not he not only needs to get
- 1:24:42the fuck out of the village, but he wants to keep any on those
- 1:24:44boys because he knows that getting involved with the Isid Eye can lead to trouble.
- 1:24:48Yeah uh. In their travels, they are actually tracked down by Ninive
- 1:24:57because let me tell you something Ninese personality is. She is combative, she's
- 1:25:05very fierce and I'm not not stuck up, but she's very firm insteadfast in
- 1:25:13her beliefs. And when Moraine left with her four charges, they left in
- 1:25:18the middle of the night in secret, so that way they don't one they
- 1:25:23don't disturb the village they don't freak out the villagers and two. So that
- 1:25:26way they don't alert the trlocks right away to where they went, because eventually
- 1:25:31the trlocks will follow them, but hopefully it'll it ensures that they it keep
- 1:25:40that it. They leave the village alone. But when Niniveh realizes that,
- 1:25:45oh they all took off, she was like, oh, hell no,
- 1:25:48and she promises her village, her village, that she'll go and get them
- 1:25:53back, and she tracks them down and actually does find them, which surprises
- 1:25:59Land because Lan is an expert tracker and he knows how to cover their trail,
- 1:26:06so he's so the way he does that is by leading them in like
- 1:26:11uh kind of like an offset direction, so not following the main roads or
- 1:26:15anything like that, and he does everything he can to like keep their trail
- 1:26:20hidden. But then out of nowhere, ninive appears like a fiery hurricane,
- 1:26:25and she goes off on Moraine and the and the boys in GWayne. She
- 1:26:30goes off on on the whole gang, like how could you leave? You're
- 1:26:32coming back with me right now, like, and Lane has just caught off
- 1:26:36guard, like what the fuck? How did you find us? So it's
- 1:26:43hint it is hinted that even in this book that there's a bit of a
- 1:26:47romance between Lean and Ninive. It's true, but that honestly their romance gets
- 1:26:58dragged all throughout the years. They don't actually like even now, I'm I'm
- 1:27:01only on book six and they're not even together yet, and like book six
- 1:27:06takes place like about almost three years later and they're still not together yet.
- 1:27:13Yeah, but there's a there's all kinds of drums that stuff. But so
- 1:27:21Moraine makes it clear that under no uncertain on certain terms, that these guys
- 1:27:28won't be going back to Emon's field. One because the boys are in danger
- 1:27:32and their very presence in the village makes puts the village in danger. And
- 1:27:38two, Igwayne chose to leave the village and she wishes to go come with
- 1:27:43Moraine to Tarvelan to begin her training as an is at Eye. And while
- 1:27:46Ninive accepts rather begrudgingly that they need her help, they need Moraine's help at
- 1:27:57least until they can get the Tarlocks off their act, she still is determined
- 1:28:01to bring them all home, so she decides to travel with them. They
- 1:28:05begin to They continue their journey in a more easterly direction and because they're trying
- 1:28:13to stay close to one of the main roads because it will eventually lead them
- 1:28:16to Tarvelan. And also they follow along one of the main rivers. But
- 1:28:23unfortunately the Trollic forces not only triple a number uh the numbers of talks tracing
- 1:28:30them, chasing them, excuse me h, not only like triple and number,
- 1:28:36but they force them in a direction that they don't want to go.
- 1:28:41But Nimi, but Moraine decides, all right, the only way we can
- 1:28:45lose these guys is if we go to the one place they will not want
- 1:28:47to go, and that is a is a dark, desolate city called Shadar
- 1:28:53Logoth. That's an interesting name. Yeah, it is a name from the
- 1:29:00Old tongue and it means it means the shadow's weight. Now, Shadar loo
- 1:29:08Goth was an ancient city. Was a city that was built after the breaking
- 1:29:13of the world. Hold on me, look God, all right. So
- 1:29:26shad Logoth was a city that used to be named our Hoole and it existed
- 1:29:32about about It stood about a thousand years ago, and it was actually a
- 1:29:38close ally to another kingdom called Menethren. Menethrene used to be the city of
- 1:29:44Menethren used to be in the in the land that Emonsfield currently exists. Menethrine
- 1:29:51no longer exists, but its descendants and its territory reside in the land is
- 1:30:00now known as Two Rivers all right now. Manethrin was destroyed during a brutal
- 1:30:08three century war called the Trolloc Wars, which happens a little over a thousand
- 1:30:12years ago, like closer to two thousand years ago, I think. But
- 1:30:19they one of their closest allies, aart Hall, was supposed to come to
- 1:30:24their aid at the height of the war, but they didn't, and that
- 1:30:28was because art Hale became infested with the darkness. A stranger, a strange
- 1:30:39man appeared in the city around that time. Man name he has like a
- 1:30:45bunch of different names more death, Mashadar and a few other names. But
- 1:30:54Mashad Mahadar or Mashadar is the name of this man and this man later entity
- 1:31:02that came to take up residence in the city and he began to corrupt the
- 1:31:06city. The people before they were very trusting of each other. They there
- 1:31:11was a Aaron Hall had a very strong sense of community or however the hell
- 1:31:15you say that name? Oh my God. Camaraderie. Camaraderie. Yeah,
- 1:31:21that we'll go with that. When he came along, he began to whisper
- 1:31:27in the ears of the nobles and the leadership, and he began to instill
- 1:31:30the sense of mistrust in them, and eventually people in the city began turning
- 1:31:35on each other fighting. There was a lot of infighting. There was a
- 1:31:40lot of just dissension in the city. The city had these massive walls so
- 1:31:45like because back during the Trollic Wars, cities had to build these massive walls
- 1:31:49just to keep the Trillic forces out. And eventually, after the Trollic War
- 1:31:58ended and then the Etherren was destroyed, other allies of the of these two
- 1:32:02cities came to investigate, like what happened to Arithole. They were supposed to
- 1:32:08come to the uh Timanethan's aid, but when they were, when they reached
- 1:32:14the city, they found that it was completely empty. There was no people.
- 1:32:18There was nobody inside the city whatsoever, no bodies nothing. Of course,
- 1:32:26of course, their personal their possessions and anything that was in the city
- 1:32:30before the people disappeared, they were still there. But there was this sense
- 1:32:35of like this darkness, this malignant force. Was this sense of this evil
- 1:32:42like infested the city, and that city became so dark and evil that not
- 1:32:48even trolks or other halfmen will willingly go into that city. He realized how
- 1:32:56fucked up a place has to how evil a place has to be when other
- 1:33:00evil forces refuse to step foot in there. So Morain gets this bright idea,
- 1:33:05all right, if we can't outrun them, we can go to the
- 1:33:09one place they won't go, and that is Shaudar look goth Aarnhol got its
- 1:33:15new name Shougar lookth because of that malignant force. It's later revealed that Mashadar
- 1:33:23is this entity that it takes the form of like this mist. At least
- 1:33:28in the books it does in the show. It looks like this kind of
- 1:33:31rot that crawls over the stone and the rest of the city, and it
- 1:33:35like just eats and disintegrates anything living. Well, the myst does the same
- 1:33:41thing, and it will attack anything dark, friend and half men, regular
- 1:33:46people, doesn't matter who you are, it'll attack and kill you. At
- 1:33:51first, Morain tells them to stay close to her, and when they go
- 1:33:57into the city, they find a place to set up for the night,
- 1:34:00and Moraine places a ward around the area that they're staying in. So that
- 1:34:04way during the night, because at night, that's when should I look office
- 1:34:10at its most dangerous. Uh, they'll still be protected by her awards.
- 1:34:15Rands and Matt decide. Ran, Matt, and Paren decide to explore the
- 1:34:20city a little bit. At one point, Ran and Matt encounter another man
- 1:34:31who calls himself. Uh, I forgot exactly what he calls himself. We
- 1:34:40see see this, it's this is how convoluted the story is because one character
- 1:34:44will have like a dozen different names. Oh god, yeah, all right.
- 1:34:50Honestly, like I said, this one entity has like so many different
- 1:34:55names, it doesn't matter. Mashadar is really the name used or the entity
- 1:35:00that is like takes on this mislike form while this other entity, well,
- 1:35:05it's implied that the same thing. But the thing is is that this is
- 1:35:09this the evil that resides in Shahdar Logoth is not only corruptive, but it's
- 1:35:15contagious too. So when they enter the city, Moraine warns everybody, whatever,
- 1:35:21under no circumstances are you to take anything from this city. Even the
- 1:35:28smallest pebble can infect you with the evil, and you can end up carrying
- 1:35:32it with you to other places where the evil will grow and overcome. So
- 1:35:40but while they're exploring the city, Matt and parent, I'm sorry, no,
- 1:35:44not Matt and Parent. Matt and Ran encounter a man, right,
- 1:35:50let's say he's a man. They think he's a man, calls himself more
- 1:35:56death and more death, not just a little death, but more death.
- 1:36:01Yes, that's anyway, more death. The see. The thing is Matt,
- 1:36:08well, Rand was just curious about the city and just wanting to see,
- 1:36:12like what a big city is supposed to be like, because he's never
- 1:36:15been in one. Matt is over here more focused on finding treasure. So
- 1:36:24they're looking around and when they find when they encounter more death, Matt is
- 1:36:29like, do you know where the treasure is? And the guy's like,
- 1:36:30oh yeah, sure, I'm gonna show you, and he leads him to
- 1:36:32this dark basement. It's filled with treasure. But you know that's but but
- 1:36:47the thing is Rand is the one out of the only one of the two
- 1:36:50of them that has any sense because he won. He's like, oh wait,
- 1:36:54Matt, we're not even supposed to take Marian says, we're not supposed
- 1:36:56to take anything, even like even remember what she said, and Matt kind
- 1:37:01of brushes him off, but at the same time he's starting to get subsvivibes
- 1:37:04from more Death and turns out more Death was going to try to kill them,
- 1:37:10but in a panic while Ran, who had taken his father's sword,
- 1:37:16I actually mention something about maybe let me just kind of like take a little
- 1:37:21moment to talk about Rand's sword. So when there when their village was attacked,
- 1:37:30his father turns out has a sword from his days as a soldier.
- 1:37:36But he wasn't just any tam author. RAN's father wasn't just any regular soldier.
- 1:37:43He was a blades master or a blade master. And think about in
- 1:37:47the wheel of time, when a swordsman reaches a certain level of proficiency and
- 1:37:53mastery over sword play, they can they can ascend to the rank of blade
- 1:37:59master, and when they do, they're given a special sword. They kind
- 1:38:03of look like a Japanese katana, but really they're more described as something like
- 1:38:08a saber. It's a curved blade. It's a single edged, curved blade
- 1:38:13with a crossguard and like a two handed grip. The way the way they
- 1:38:19look in the show, it makes more sense because the way it's kind of
- 1:38:24like the way Robert Jordan trying to make the sword his the swords in the
- 1:38:28book look it's kind of like a cross between a katana and a European longsword,
- 1:38:32which really doesn't work, especially with the t crossguard. But either way,
- 1:38:41so, in the early days of the Third Age, the Isida used
- 1:38:45to make really powerful weapons that were simultaneously unbreakable. But so these weapons that
- 1:38:56they would make were stronger than normal weapons. They would never go dull and
- 1:39:00they would never break. The thing is is that when they did that,
- 1:39:03it led to countless different wars where you know, men were killing each other,
- 1:39:09and it eventually forced the isid I to take on the three oaths never
- 1:39:14to tell a lie, never to use the power as a weapon, and
- 1:39:18never to make weapons for men to kill each other with. Mm hmmm.
- 1:39:25And they did that third one, especially because of the fact that, oh
- 1:39:28we fucked up, we made we made powerful weapons that can't break, we're
- 1:39:34dull and men were killing Yeah. I didn't know whoopsie I did a fucking
- 1:39:45luckie. Yeah. But anyway, there's still some of these weapons survived.
- 1:39:50Even though the I said I don't make these weapons anymore, there's still there
- 1:39:54are still quite a few of them remaining, and if a noble happens to
- 1:40:00have one on hand, and there's a swordsman among the rank that has mastered
- 1:40:06have proven that they are a master of the sword, they will present the
- 1:40:10blade to this new blade master. And Tamil Thor happened to get one because
- 1:40:15he was a blade master. And what makes these unique is not these swords
- 1:40:18unique is not only because they have an unbreakable blade, but they also have
- 1:40:25a stamp of a heron on each side of the blade and also on the
- 1:40:30hilt itself. So it's significant because throughout the books the heron mark blade is
- 1:40:38it marks you as a blade master, and a lot of people end up
- 1:40:41giving rants kind of this SIDEI like, this young dude here is this blade
- 1:40:45is a blade master the fuck. But I mean, like his father didn't
- 1:40:51care. He's like, you need a sword. Take my sword. Where
- 1:40:56you're going, it's gonna be dangerous. So anyway, yeah, that's to
- 1:40:58Shadarlogoth pulls out his sword and Matt in a panic, reaches into the into
- 1:41:03the treasure pile and pulls out a dagger with a ruby gem and embedded into
- 1:41:09the handle, and they defend themselves against the against this man, more death
- 1:41:16and more death ends up vanishing in this puff of mist. Freaked out,
- 1:41:24the two of them run back to Moraine to report what they saw, or
- 1:41:29they weren't really gonna tell her what they saw. They were just like,
- 1:41:31uh, yeah, we got a fucked up. Let's not tell her.
- 1:41:33She might get mad. But whereas Rad didn't touch a single thing in that
- 1:41:41treasure pile, Matt slipped that dagger he grabbed into his pocket. That's significant.
- 1:41:47Don't forget that. They go back to Moraine and they unfortunately, they
- 1:41:55don't manage to They don't manage to stay and Shodar uh look off uh overnight
- 1:42:02like they planned, because the mire Drawl, who were leading the Trialoks chasing
- 1:42:08them, forced the Taraloks to enter the city and pursue them. When this
- 1:42:12happens, Moraine's like, ah shit, they did the one thing I thought
- 1:42:15they weren't gonna do. Ah shit, here we go again. Uh huh.
- 1:42:20And pretty much just the thing about the thing about Shadara Logoth in the
- 1:42:24book and in the show was that whereas they entered the city willingly to get
- 1:42:28away from them. In the book and the show, Moraine was like,
- 1:42:32whatever, Okay, I got a I got a boo boo in my shoulder
- 1:42:38that's killing me right now and I'm probably not gonna be conscious for them until
- 1:42:42I get healed. But whatever you do, do not take us into that
- 1:42:45city, all right, see you? And then she just passes out.
- 1:42:51And then when she comes to, she's like, you, oh shit,
- 1:42:57you did exactly what I told you not to do. And I was taken
- 1:43:00into the city. Y'all got me fucked up anyway. But uh so they
- 1:43:06end up having to escape from the city because the trials are now pursuing them
- 1:43:12through the city. But when this, as soon as the sun set,
- 1:43:15this eerie myst begins to appear, like this really thick mist and it has
- 1:43:24a life of its own. And this myth, this mist is the entity
- 1:43:29Mashadar. Did I say his name? See this? This is where this
- 1:43:34this story got me fucked up, because there's like so many different names for
- 1:43:39one thing. Mm hmm, Masdar, Mashadar, Mashadar. So this so
- 1:43:53Mashadar appears out of the night and it envelops the entire city. Uh and
- 1:44:00anything that gets caught in the mists immediately dies violently, painfully, gruesomely.
- 1:44:08It's not a pretty sight, and Moraine tells the others, Okay, whatever
- 1:44:12you do, don't don't run headfirst into the mitt into the mists. Try
- 1:44:15to avoid it as much as possible. But at one point, uh,
- 1:44:20the band ends up getting separated. Uh, I think my Neive doesn't show
- 1:44:30up until after they get separated. Even in the book, I can't remember,
- 1:44:42and I fucked up. Part is is that in the eye of the
- 1:44:45world, it's kind of hard to like figure out m hold on, I
- 1:44:53could search the ship up you devin't cut this so cool. That's just the
- 1:45:02one thing I needed to know. So in the show, Ninive doesn't track
- 1:45:09them down until after doesn't track down the group until after they get out of
- 1:45:13Shadarla Goth, but in the show she actually but I'm sorry the show is
- 1:45:16after. But in the book she actually catches up to them before they get
- 1:45:20caught. They get to Shadarlo Goth and when they're trying to escape from the
- 1:45:27Trolas and Mashadar, they end up all getting separated. Moraine, Len and
- 1:45:32Ninive get separated together, Ran and matt Is another group, and Paren and
- 1:45:44Igwayne are another before they get separated, Moraine tells them all, what that
- 1:45:50the best way to escape the trollocks at this very moment is to cross the
- 1:45:54river. I think it's the river Arundel, Okay, so should loth is
- 1:46:02Uh look is set up like along one large river, and she tells them
- 1:46:08the best way we can escape these guys is to cross the river. We
- 1:46:13were going to do that at this village called white Bridge. But whatever you
- 1:46:18do, try to find a way to cross. There are like short,
- 1:46:23certain narrow areas where you can cross. So they all managed to escape should
- 1:46:31loogoth Uh Matt and Rand alongside Tom Marilynd. They escape the city and managed
- 1:46:45to get further down the river before they encounter a small river boat happens to
- 1:46:54be captained by a smuggler but the guy. But they were able to convince
- 1:47:00the guy like, hey, we'll pay you can we can you like please
- 1:47:03take us down the river towards white Bridge and he's like all right, sure,
- 1:47:08But then when he sees the tarlocks chasing them, he's like, all
- 1:47:11right, y'all need to explain. And they explained without telling too much,
- 1:47:14and he was like, all right, your gold's good let's go Matt,
- 1:47:18and I'm sorry not Matt. So Matt, Wren and Tom get on this
- 1:47:26boat and they head down river towards white Bridge Igwayne and Perrin. They do
- 1:47:33both manage to cross the river, and they began making their way in a
- 1:47:39northeasterly direction because to them, they say, all right, well, we
- 1:47:45know everybody was going we're going to head towards Tarvelan. But to get through
- 1:47:50the best way through to like, the most direct route to Tarvelan is through
- 1:47:55the capital of Andor, which is the country that they're currently in, Uh,
- 1:48:00which is the city of and the city of Camelin. So they decide
- 1:48:04those two decide to try to make their way towards Camlin UH. Moraine and
- 1:48:13Moraine's group they uh. Moraine reveals that she had actually placed a tracking ward
- 1:48:19on those coins that she gave to Ran, Matt, and Perrin, and
- 1:48:26while she can sensed parent's coin heading in a northeasternly direction, she realizes,
- 1:48:30okay, those two crossed. She realizes, all right, he must he
- 1:48:34was able to cross the river, so he should be safe. It's the
- 1:48:38two that are heading down river at this moment that I need to worry about.
- 1:48:43Because she could tell. She could sense that two of the coins are
- 1:48:46heading down river, so she decides to follow that one. And even though
- 1:48:51Ninieve is like, we should go after all of them, Moraine puts her
- 1:48:57foot down and tell and tells her Like Moraine a way of like putting her
- 1:49:00foot down without yelling at you and without like you know, raising her voice.
- 1:49:03She just puts She just puts it in simple terms like I'm not doing
- 1:49:08that. We're not gonna do that, and I'll tell you why. For
- 1:49:12one, the the end of the person, the one who is heading northeast
- 1:49:16is are is as safe as they can be? They've already. That means
- 1:49:19they must have crossed the river. If they cross the river, the trolks
- 1:49:24can't get them. It's the other two that we need to be worried about,
- 1:49:28because if they're if they're going down river, that means that they're still
- 1:49:30on this side of the river, which also means that there's still trollics chasing
- 1:49:34them. Yeah. So Ninive concedes the point and and continues on. Uh.
- 1:49:44Those two groups head to a village called White Bridge, and it's called
- 1:49:48that because White Bridge is built around an ancient structure. It's the name is
- 1:49:54the dead giveaway. This ancient structure was made from is remnant from the Age
- 1:50:00of Legends. It was made out of some It is literally a big bridge
- 1:50:08made out of the white. He doesn't know, like when Ran first sees
- 1:50:12it, he's not sure how to just like describe the material. It looks.
- 1:50:15It's very it's white, but it looks almost crystal like, almost opaque,
- 1:50:21and he's not really sure what it's made of, but it he Tom
- 1:50:27tells him that it was a It's a structure left over from the Age of
- 1:50:31Legends, and it's unbreakable. That's why it's still standing even after many thousands
- 1:50:36of years. So the the smugglers boat docks in White Bridge. They disembark
- 1:50:45and find shelter at one of the ends, but they don't stay long because
- 1:50:51they realize that a mere drawl followed them into this into the village. Tom
- 1:51:00rushes the mireor drawl and tells Wren and Matt to make a run for it
- 1:51:04across the bridge, which they do, and while they don't see what happens
- 1:51:09to Tom, it's implied that the mayor draw kills him. He's still alive,
- 1:51:14Doring, but you won't see Tom again for another book until a book
- 1:51:19two. Honestly, Like, so Tom doesn't really Tom Marilyn. Uh,
- 1:51:27he's just really he's just like just major side character. He's not really like
- 1:51:32a big part of the story. I mean he does travel with uh,
- 1:51:39the main characters, whether like he honestly, he takes his turns like he
- 1:51:45at one point he traveled, like I said, he traveled with Matt and
- 1:51:47and Rand. For a short time he was traveling with Matt, Wren and
- 1:51:51Paran altogether. And then another time, Uh, it's a GWayne and Ninive
- 1:51:59and like currently in book six he's with Igwaine and oh he's not with Agwayne,
- 1:52:03but he's with Nineve and another character that's going to be introduced in this
- 1:52:08book named Elaine, and Elaine is she becomes one of the main characters.
- 1:52:14So, but she will be we'll get to her in just a second.
- 1:52:19It doesn't really we don't really see much from the perspective of Moraine's group,
- 1:52:27mainly because they're just following mattin Rant. Matt and Rant. Yeah, so
- 1:52:35there's not really there's not much going on with them. Their party does go
- 1:52:43through make it through White Bridge, and they after asking some questions. They
- 1:52:48get an idea that the two did flee across the bridge towards Camlin, but
- 1:52:55the villagers are being very sketchy and dodgy, like something happened, but they
- 1:52:59don't really want to knowledge or talk about It's at this point Moraine realizes that
- 1:53:04the two boys had given up their the Tarbalon going silver coins that she gave
- 1:53:11them, which annoyed the fuck out of her because she's like, great,
- 1:53:13now I can't track them because they use the Tarbalon marks to pay for their
- 1:53:17passage down river. So Moraine is like, all right, time for plan
- 1:53:26B, and Ninive's like, what's plan B? Well, Plan B is
- 1:53:30to just go ahead and track down the other the last coin, the last
- 1:53:35remaining coin, which is with parrin So and nine Eves Like, well,
- 1:53:44what about Matt and Rant. She's like, well, if they fled down
- 1:53:46this road, across the bridge, down that road straight in that direction,
- 1:53:49they'll eventually get to get to Camlin. We'll just have to meet them there.
- 1:53:55We'll just have to catch them there. It's the other person. It's
- 1:53:59the one singular coin itself. She doesn't know, she doesn't know who it
- 1:54:03is yet. She's like that one person, by by himself, is now
- 1:54:09our biggest concern. And that's when we get to uh, that's where it
- 1:54:16goes more from the perspective of Paren and Igwaine. Uh. They're making their
- 1:54:21way. They they're making their way in a northeasternly direction. They don't really
- 1:54:26know where they're going because they're not familiar with the land. They eventually encounter
- 1:54:30a sort of wild man named Elias. Elias is kind of an interesting character
- 1:54:38because aside from the power from the true power, I'm sorry, aside from
- 1:54:43the one power, there are other mystical abilities out there that are not associated
- 1:54:47with the true source. Some people like there's one character that they met.
- 1:54:53I didn't really mention her because she just had like a small role in this
- 1:54:56book. Her name is Min. They meet her in ear in a smaller
- 1:55:00city of Berlin. Her name is Min, and she has the ability to
- 1:55:05see glimpses of the pattern, so she can see the future. But it's
- 1:55:10more of like not really like you know, having a that's so raven moment
- 1:55:14when she's all like yeah, yeah, it's more of like she looks at
- 1:55:18people and she sometimes either see like images or patterns or lights or like specs
- 1:55:26of light just appear around them. So that's like how her predictions work.
- 1:55:30And usually she's able to, like min is able to like get a good
- 1:55:38idea, like what's gonna happen, Like some predictions that some images she sees
- 1:55:42around people are very obvious, like that guy's gonna die. How do you
- 1:55:47know? Because there's a because I just saw an image of him with his
- 1:55:50throat slit. What's gonna happen? But I don't know what's gonna happen,
- 1:55:55but it's gonna happen. When she when she first saw this group of this
- 1:55:59Maltic like a rand Parent, matt Ikwayne, and Ninive, she was like,
- 1:56:05Yeah, there's like something weird going on with those guys. I don't
- 1:56:10know what it is, but they're gonna be very They're gonna be very important
- 1:56:14people in the future. So and Elias is something similar, but he is
- 1:56:23what is called a wolf brother, so he has the ability, so he's
- 1:56:27like basically like a druid, but he's able to uh telepathically communicate with wolves,
- 1:56:35and he himself has like wolf like abilities, like heightened senses. His
- 1:56:41most defining feature is his eyes are bright yellow, like a bright gold when
- 1:56:47parent meets this guy, he begins to notice that he's starting to like When
- 1:56:53parent meets this guy, he starts noticing that he's going through changes of his
- 1:56:58own, and like he started, he's also starting to notice that he can
- 1:57:00hear the thoughts of the wolves around them. So Parrien, yes, I'm
- 1:57:06just gonna say it, he's a wolf brother too, m hm. And
- 1:57:13uh Elias agrees to escort these these two towards civilization and at one point their
- 1:57:21group encounters a group of traveling people called the Tinkers or the Tuathon. These
- 1:57:30guys are a group of nomadic pacifists. They follow a philosophy called the Way
- 1:57:38of the Leaf, which is extreme non violence, non aggression. So they
- 1:57:42will not act and they themselves believe will not act in violence, not even
- 1:57:49in any kind of violent way, not even to defend themselves. So they
- 1:57:53will not take up arms, they will not fight, they will not fight
- 1:57:56other people, and they will not fight back if they're being attacked. Yeah,
- 1:58:01so extreme pacifism right there. They travel with this group for a short
- 1:58:05time, but they eventually get separated from them because one the direction that the
- 1:58:15Tuathen are going in the direction that paren and Igwayne need to go two different
- 1:58:19things, so they separate, But it doesn't take long for Paren and Igwayne
- 1:58:26to the fuck is in my house? Oh it's Joseph. Sorry, no,
- 1:58:38I he's just talking really loud on this film. Anyway, Paren and
- 1:58:50Igwaine have a run in with the Children of the Light or the White Cloaks
- 1:58:59mentioned those guys earlier. They're basically they're basically the KKK, except instead of
- 1:59:02extreme yeah, but instead of just extreme racism, it's they're witch hunters and
- 1:59:10they're Dark friend hunters, which basically to them, dark friends and isid I
- 1:59:15are the same thing. And they capture uh, Paren and Agwaine. They
- 1:59:27suspect Igwayine is heading They suspect that Agwaine is heading north to become a an
- 1:59:33isid Eye, but they can't prove it. But the thing is that they
- 1:59:38have way of they like to manipulate people too, like, oh, you're
- 1:59:41not like if they suspect a woman of being a channeler, especially if they
- 1:59:45catch her heading north towards Tarbalon, Right, they can't prove that she's going
- 1:59:49to Tarbolon, but they're like, you know what, these are bad areas.
- 1:59:53You know, we should well we'll escort you to safety. We're gonna
- 1:59:56escort you to our regiment in Camlin, and then from there we'll scort you
- 2:00:00down to Amaditia. All right, well you'll be much civil better civilization,
- 2:00:04all right, you can't get any better. Basically their way of saying,
- 2:00:08like, we don't like we we don't think you're a witch, but we're
- 2:00:13gonna make sure you don't go anywhere near them, right, are you queers?
- 2:00:21Something like that. The thing is, though, they decide that they're
- 2:00:25gonna execute Paren when they get to uh, their regiment in Camlin, because
- 2:00:30are they're not gonna none in Camblin. They're gonna they're gonna pass through Camelin,
- 2:00:36but they're gonna take them down to their capital in Amaditia. Because when
- 2:00:45they capture the two uh, the white Cloaks chase them h and pin them
- 2:00:50down. And the thing is Paren had befriended a couple of wolves and the
- 2:00:56white Cloaks killed them, and Paren in anger, killed the white Cloak.
- 2:01:00So white Cloaks was like, uh, you've killed you killed a couple of
- 2:01:03our men in self defense. You must be a dark friend. We're gonna
- 2:01:06we're gonna execute you. Now, m so, but you know, we're
- 2:01:12not gonna just kill you right here. We're gonna take you down and put
- 2:01:15you on trial where you can defend yourself, and even if you have a
- 2:01:18good argument, we're still gonna condemn you as a dark friend and execute you.
- 2:01:21Yeah, and uh the thing is, by this point, uh the
- 2:01:30White Cloaks still end up taking them in the right direction, but about halfway
- 2:01:34there, that's one more Raine and her group catch up with them, and
- 2:01:38that's and they realize, oh fuck, they're in a they're in a white
- 2:01:41Cloak. They're in a White Cloak camp. So they had your plan to
- 2:01:47uh break them out, and to do that, they're gonna need to distractions
- 2:01:51and land. So, uh distraction number one ninive is going to sneak it
- 2:02:00to the camp and uh cut the cut the ties of the the tethers for
- 2:02:08the horses. So when the horses are all like you know, untethered,
- 2:02:13she's gonna make sure that they're free so that way they can run around.
- 2:02:15And then Moraine is going to call down at bolts of lightning and spook the
- 2:02:21animals so they all run off. And then while the White Cloaks are busy
- 2:02:28trying to like get their fucking horses back lands can sneak into the camp,
- 2:02:31get Parrien and Igwayne, and they're gonna make a break for it, and
- 2:02:38everything goes plan. They all meet UH. They get the two of them
- 2:02:42out, and they finally get back on the road towards Camelin. At this
- 2:02:46point there's Matt and Rands are pretty much UH had finally reached Camlin. Uh.
- 2:02:55They encountered some difficulties along the road north. They had to either because
- 2:03:00they had little to know money, they weren't able to stay in any ends.
- 2:03:04They often had to like either sleep in barns or under shrubs by the
- 2:03:10side of the road. There was a couple of times where they encountered UH.
- 2:03:16They encountered several rough patches. At one point they were they tried to
- 2:03:21take shelter in a farm and the farmer was gonna let them stay there.
- 2:03:27But the guy got spooked because one of his daughters was eyeballing Rand and that
- 2:03:31you know, like all six foot five, redheaded hunk of meat. And
- 2:03:42the farmer was like, you eyeballing my daughter. Brand's like no, she's
- 2:03:45doing that to me. A lot of watch you here, and he chases
- 2:03:50them out. He said, yeah, so one thing answered for I you
- 2:03:56mentioned Rand is a six foot five h red ginger ginger A yeah, so
- 2:04:11he does get a lot he does get. He's a looker. We'll sit
- 2:04:14he's a good looking guy. Matt is described as being tall, slim,
- 2:04:19and he always seems to have like a mischievous grin, like whenever he's like,
- 2:04:24he's always like grinning, like like I don't know to do a mischievous
- 2:04:28grin, but he always looks like. He's described as looking like he's up
- 2:04:31to no good. And then Paren is, uh, he's a very he's
- 2:04:38tall ish above average height, but he's very but he's built because he was
- 2:04:44a blacksmith's apprentice. He has a lot of muscle. He's dark, curly
- 2:04:50ish hair, and he eventually grows a beard, but in this book he's
- 2:04:55just clean shaven. He did originally have dark eyes, but when he starts,
- 2:05:01when his wolf brother abilities awaken, his eyes turned gold. Oh my,
- 2:05:12and they're just like a wolf's eize, so like at night they look
- 2:05:16they reflect light, so they do that too. And at first he's very
- 2:05:21ashamed because he's like, I'm not normal anymore, because like these guys.
- 2:05:25All three of these guys are like normal farm boys, so they were very
- 2:05:30They grew up at a very isolated community, so now that their lives were
- 2:05:33changing that they're having a hard time adjusting anyway. At one point, Ran
- 2:05:40and Matt get cornered by dark friends, like actual dark friends. Yeah,
- 2:05:45and the thing about dark friends is that they look like regular people. They
- 2:05:48hide themselves very well. And Balzamon he directs the dark friends by entering their
- 2:05:56dreams, so he'll like so Balzamon has well has been spreading the three boys
- 2:06:04faces to the to his dark friend followers, so they all know who Rans,
- 2:06:11Matt, and Paren look like, what they look like, and hell,
- 2:06:15all three of them, although they don't really tell Morain even though she
- 2:06:18tells them if you have if you're having hey, by the way, if
- 2:06:21you're having any like weird dreams, you should tell me so I can help
- 2:06:26you out with that. But and then they start having weird dreams and they're
- 2:06:29like, we shouldn't tell her, And when she actually finds out that they've
- 2:06:33been having these dreams, she's just all, like, I can say,
- 2:06:41so Balzaman has been haunting the boy's dream He pretty much shows them the same
- 2:06:46thing. But uh, the thing is is that he's taunting them like he
- 2:06:53knows them and showing them disturbing images. They keep having the same way.
- 2:07:00They keep finding themselves in the same scenario of this weird broken land. It's
- 2:07:05like they're in a castle and they keep entering this room or outside of the
- 2:07:10room, they could see this weird inverted reality and the way it's described,
- 2:07:15it's just kind of it's very freaky. And Balzamon is like this dark figure
- 2:07:20with a like a fiery, flaming face. So several times Matt and Ranz
- 2:07:30get attacked and while they're trying to make to Camblin, and at one point
- 2:07:36they were cornered by a group of dark friends and they they were cornered in
- 2:07:44a room like they were actually they had actually got caught and were locked in
- 2:07:47a room and while the two of them were able to like break out of
- 2:07:50their bonds, they couldn't break out of the room, and they were trying
- 2:07:56to figure out a way to get out, and seemingly at them while they
- 2:08:00were being threatened by the dark friends, a bolt of lightning strikes the building
- 2:08:03that they were in because they were in an inn and it blows a hole
- 2:08:07right through the wall. Damn. Uh, because they were they were trying
- 2:08:13to like break out of one of the windows, but they see that,
- 2:08:16like the Dark Friends had guards outside, and when the lightning bolt struck,
- 2:08:20it blew a hole through the through the wall, and it knocked out the
- 2:08:24Dark Friends and the two were able to escape. Damn. And they're both
- 2:08:28like, huh, how about that? But what Not long after they make
- 2:08:39their run for it, Rand begins to become sick. He begins having a
- 2:08:45fever. He's body aches and chills, and Matt is forced to carry him
- 2:08:50along, and at one point he manages to get a kind farmer to to
- 2:08:56drive them in his wagon closer to the city because at this point they're very
- 2:09:00close to Camlin. Rat Rant's h supposed illness gets like goes away after about
- 2:09:09a day, which was strange because these kind of illness, these kind of
- 2:09:13like illnesses last for a few days, especially you know, on there from
- 2:09:18what they've experienced. But they're like, hmm, that's weird. Uh.
- 2:09:24Ran is beginning to notice that Matt's behavior is becoming more erratic and more aggressive,
- 2:09:33and he does figure he does find out for Matt that Matt had taken
- 2:09:37the dagger from Shadar Loogoth, and he doesn't really understand the implications of that.
- 2:09:43He's like, ooh, Marine's gonna be mad, but you should be
- 2:09:48fine. He's not fine. No, he's not his no, his uh.
- 2:09:56Matt's mental state is beginning to decline. He's becoming more aggressive and more
- 2:10:01paranoid, so much to the point when they finally do reach Camelin and they
- 2:10:09along the way, Matt was able to earn them some money through gambling,
- 2:10:15so when they get to Camelin, they were able to pay for their rooms
- 2:10:18and stay in someplace nice. Because the thing is is that Camelin is currently
- 2:10:24filling to the brim with travelers because along their journey they begin hearing rumors about
- 2:10:33a false dragon. False dragons are male channelers who believe that they are the
- 2:10:41dragon, who will declare themselves the dragon reborn. And the thing is is
- 2:10:46that, you know, like I said, the taint on sid In is
- 2:10:50still there even after three thousand years, and anytime a channel a male channeler
- 2:10:56appears, they'll slowly begin to go. Matt. Now, and if the
- 2:11:01I said eye, if the red Azia doesn't capture them and gentle them,
- 2:11:05they'll continue to go on a rampage and kill everything around them before eventually they'll
- 2:11:11eventually die because the thing is that the taint not only causes their mental state
- 2:11:16to deteriorate, but it will also cause their bodies to deteriorate too, to
- 2:11:20the point where they'll just waste away and die. But it takes years for
- 2:11:26that to happen, and by that point they could just they they'll be killing
- 2:11:31anything and everything around them. So this particular false Dragon was a man named
- 2:11:39Logan, and they had heard rumors that the I said Eye had managed to
- 2:11:48corner low Gain and capture it. And they're currently and they're currently making their
- 2:11:56way to tarble On. And the thing is is that Tarbilon has a very
- 2:12:01close relationship to and Or and the Queen and It's queen. So every time
- 2:12:07they capture a male chandler, they have this miles long procession that will lead
- 2:12:13them that will take them through Caitlin where the Isida will present the male,
- 2:12:20the false Dragon to the Queen of Andor, and then from there they take
- 2:12:26they take this man north to Tarbolan where he is put on a trial by
- 2:12:33the by the isid eye and usually there's thirteen isida I who do this,
- 2:12:39and they come together and they will gentle him. It's the gensling. Even
- 2:12:46though most chandlers consider it a fate worse than death, it's the more humane
- 2:12:54thing to do when dealing with a male chandler. Instead of just outright murdering
- 2:12:58him, they just take away his power. He'll be able to live out
- 2:13:01the rest of his life with whatever sanity he has left. But the thing
- 2:13:07is, like I said, it's like an addiction that doesn't go away even
- 2:13:11if you're cut off cold turkey. And most people who have been severed,
- 2:13:16most channelers that have been severed, will usually either lose their will to live
- 2:13:22or they will take their own lives. And ladies and gentlemen, we are
- 2:13:24joined today with Patricia fucking Cat scare the shit out of meldaka Ah Shelley did
- 2:13:35the same thing to me yesterday or the last time we were recording. Yeah
- 2:13:39my god. Yeah. Anyway, So Camelin is currently filled to the brim
- 2:13:46with a bunch of onlookers and gawkers because the procession is just about to come
- 2:13:54through the city. The Isida are going to present Logan to the queen before
- 2:14:00or taking him to Tarbalan. They still manage to get their get rooms at
- 2:14:05an inn, and Matt, due to his mental state, he isolates himself.
- 2:14:13He hides himself in their rooms, refuses to come out. He's like
- 2:14:16muttering to himself and like looking at everybody suspicions with suspicion, like they're trying
- 2:14:20to take right. Yeah. But Rand, knowing that the procession is about
- 2:14:35to come through, he wants to see see it himself, and he does
- 2:14:39manage to get a good spot to see the procession come through. But while
- 2:14:43he's there, he notices that there's a like this vagabond, this like really
- 2:14:48crusty looking man like staring at him. And when the man noticed, like
- 2:14:54realizes, like when Matt Rand looks at the man, the man like becomes
- 2:15:01violent and charges straight at Rand and chases him throughout the city. Rand does
- 2:15:07manage to lose this guy, but he's like, oh, fuck, now
- 2:15:09I can't see the procession. But he ended up in a place, in
- 2:15:13a spot somewhere in the Innerseit City, near the Inner Palace. So he's
- 2:15:20like all right, he looks around and he finds like there's a place that
- 2:15:24he can climb up, and when he climbs up, he's like he's able
- 2:15:26to see the procession, if not from a distance, and he does.
- 2:15:30He does see Logane from afar, and what he sees is like, yeah,
- 2:15:37the procession. There's a procession of warders escorting a group of like about
- 2:15:41a dozen isid eye and they're pulling a cage, a wagon with a cage
- 2:15:48on it and on the like the cage itself has like sat on a platform
- 2:15:54type wagon and so he can see Logan in the cage, but on platform.
- 2:16:00Surrounding him, there are four isid ies like just kind of squatting there
- 2:16:05at each corner of the cage and they're just keeping their focus on him.
- 2:16:09So what the isid ie are doing they're shielding him. So channelers can shield
- 2:16:16temporarily shield another channeler from the source, it's not it's not permanent. Depending
- 2:16:22on how powerful an individual is, you would probably need more than just one
- 2:16:28isid ie just to like keep them contained. So so with Logain, he
- 2:16:35needed like four channelers to maintain a shield just to keep him from channeling.
- 2:16:43Yeah, so typically like see like four is like the bare minimum, but
- 2:16:50to comfortably shield him, you need at least six isid eye to shield him.
- 2:16:56Yeah, but while he's trying to watch the procession, Ran ends up
- 2:17:01slipping off his perch and he falls off. He falls inside of the royal
- 2:17:07the royal gardens of the palace, and he's found by the Prince and Princess
- 2:17:15of Camlin Uh the Princess and heir apparent Elaine cha Khan and her brother Gawan
- 2:17:24the Prince the first Prince Gallant Chakan Uh. So, this is the cool
- 2:17:31thing about a lot of the cultures in Uh in the real of time,
- 2:17:37is that a lot of them are matriarchal. So it's not the so queen
- 2:17:43morgaze and all the queens of and Or they only ever have queens. They
- 2:17:50don't they don't have kings. And even in Emmonsfield they they're run their society,
- 2:17:58the people of Emonsfield and Two Rivers is governed by local groups of women's
- 2:18:03circle. So like, yeah, there's a council for the men. Then
- 2:18:07they do make some a lot of important decisions, but it's the women that
- 2:18:11have the final the women's circle that have the final say in matters of like
- 2:18:15marriage, certain like specific laws and other things that are meant to happen real
- 2:18:20quick. It's starting to get dark on Maya ah the lights anyway, So
- 2:18:33anyway, he meets the two of them, but he also unfortunately meets their
- 2:18:37older brother, a guy named Glad Damadred. And the thing is is that
- 2:18:45Elaine and Gowan, they really they understood that it was by accident. Ran
- 2:18:50didn't purposely enter the gardens. He just like he explained to them that he
- 2:18:56was just trying to see the procession of Logan and he's spell in by accident,
- 2:19:01and they believed him. But the thing is Galad. The way Galad
- 2:19:05is described as a character because he does appear several times throughout the series,
- 2:19:11he's not a malicious person, and he's not like a self centered or stuck
- 2:19:16up kind of royal of like prince or royalty. The thing is he will
- 2:19:22always do the right thing to a fault, even if it means like getting
- 2:19:28himself in trouble. So if he does something wrong, he's like, ah
- 2:19:33shit, and then he'll go up and immediately tell him himself. But if
- 2:19:35anyone else does something wrong, no matter how big or small, he will
- 2:19:39He's basically like an overgrown tattle tell rude, Yeah, so Elaine and Gwin
- 2:19:50help Ran and they're like, all right, let's get you out of here
- 2:19:52before anybody notices. And then they turn around and there's Gallad and Galla.
- 2:19:56It's like, what's what you got there? Good? Uh uh nothing Garding
- 2:20:09and they try to convince him not to tell anybody, or like just to
- 2:20:11leave him alone, and he's like all right, fine, and he walks
- 2:20:13away and they're like, fuck, he's gonna tell the guard. He's gonna
- 2:20:16tell somebody. All right, Well, he don't tell somebody, and he
- 2:20:20does. The guards show up and they arrest rants. Is the thing is
- 2:20:26Elaine sticks up for him, and she and tells it and tells him that
- 2:20:31listen, he's at he's our guest. He's not doing anything wrong. And
- 2:20:33they're like, well, the Queen will decide that. So they took to
- 2:20:35the queen and he's just over here like and Run's over here like, I'm
- 2:20:41men go up to the highest person in land. See if she cares danger.
- 2:20:46He's like, I'm in danger. She's gonna kill me. Oh no,
- 2:20:54I've literally done nothing. So he does. They do take him before
- 2:21:00the queen, and the Queen does chastise Elaine and gowon a bit, but
- 2:21:05after talking to Ran, he tells you the same story. Listen, I'm
- 2:21:07sorry, I didn't mean to trespass. I was just trying to get a
- 2:21:11good spot to see the sea low game and I fell in. And I
- 2:21:20mean you or anybody any harm. And she sees that the queen, who
- 2:21:24is described Queen Morgasee is described as being very fiery and quick tempered. But
- 2:21:28she's just over here, like I can tell you weren't really you weren't trying
- 2:21:37to trespass. I'll let you go. But the thing is is that the
- 2:21:41queens of and Or, because of their close relationship to Tarblaan, they always
- 2:21:48have an Isidie advisor. And the isid I advisor with the queen is a
- 2:21:54woman named Elida, and Eleida happens to be a part of the Red Aja
- 2:22:01now Elena. She does have a somewhat of an ability to see glimpses of
- 2:22:05the pattern. It's nothing like what men can do, but she does see
- 2:22:09like she'll sometimes see flashes or auras surrounding certain people and she'll know and this
- 2:22:13tell she'll know if they if there's something significant about them. And she sees
- 2:22:18when she sees ran. She immediately tells the Queen that, Hmmm, something's
- 2:22:26something interesting is interesting about this young man. I don't know what it is.
- 2:22:31I can't put quite put my finger on it, but I don't think
- 2:22:37you should be careful of your majesty. I think some trouble could come from
- 2:22:43him. And the Queen's like, well, he hasn't He hasn't committed a
- 2:22:46crime. He hasn't committed any real crimes. And honestly, like the whole
- 2:22:52situation with Logan, there are plenty of curious onlookers out there, and he
- 2:22:56just happened to make a foolish mistake. I'm not going to do anything.
- 2:23:01You're free to go. So they scored him out of the They escort him
- 2:23:07out of the palace. He returns to his inn, and it's at this
- 2:23:09point that Moraine finally pounces on him because she's like, I found you,
- 2:23:13you bitch, I found you, because she The thing is when when even
- 2:23:22though he and Matt no longer have the coins she gave him when they entered,
- 2:23:30when her group enters came Lynn, she says that she will be able
- 2:23:33to track him down because I think besides the coins, she's able like using
- 2:23:41the source. She's able to track people, so she doesn't eventually track the
- 2:23:45two of them down and she finds them. She's like, all right,
- 2:23:50cool, well, I'm glad we found you. I'll make sure we'll get
- 2:23:54things settled with the Innkeeper, and we should start we should start getting back
- 2:24:00on the road towards Targalan. I should also mention that in the days that
- 2:24:05Rand and Matt were staying in Camblin, because they would they had been in
- 2:24:07Camlin for a few days already. Wren actually meets an interesting character who's also
- 2:24:13staying at the end that they're staying that him and Matt are staying at and
- 2:24:18this character is named Loyal. Loyal Loyol is an o Gear and in the
- 2:24:26Wheel of Time there are other non human h there are other sentient non human
- 2:24:33characters. Mainly it's there's not many, if anything. Most of them went
- 2:24:39extinct due to the age, because of the War of Power and the Age
- 2:24:45of Madness. But there's another humanoid species called O Gear. In O Gear,
- 2:24:54they are these tall like I don't want to say orc like, because
- 2:24:58they're not very They're not ugly or I mean pretty, They're they're kind of
- 2:25:03ugly. But they're tall. They're very like bulky looking creatures. They're humanoid,
- 2:25:11but the biggest difference is that they have broad faces like with kind of
- 2:25:16like flat nose breaks, like flat bridge noses, and they have these long
- 2:25:22pointed ears with tough sticking out of them. So I'm gonna just post a
- 2:25:31picture for you for all of our listeners and viewers, if you want to
- 2:25:35know what a no gear looks, let's just go ahead and there we go.
- 2:25:46If you're paying attention in the show. Loyal does appear in the show,
- 2:25:52but the way he looks like compared to what he looks like in the
- 2:25:54book is very different. What did you send it to? I haven't sent
- 2:26:01it yet. Oh, okay, might continue, all right, So this
- 2:26:15picture I just sent this is a picture artist rendition of Loyal. He's described
- 2:26:22to being over nine feet tall and like whenever he's uh, he's they like,
- 2:26:28Oh, gear are naturally bigger than humans, so h for. But
- 2:26:31the thing is the old gear they tend to keep to themselves in their own
- 2:26:37societies. In fact, uh, the ol gear live in places called steadings.
- 2:26:45The thing about steadings is steadings are places where people can't channel. So
- 2:26:54for whatever reason when you enter a steading, if you're a channeler, your
- 2:27:01ability to channel just turns off. It's not permanent, but for whatever reason,
- 2:27:05you're not able to channel when you're in a steading. Now, that's
- 2:27:11why and settings. While men like normal people aren't affected by them, oh
- 2:27:18gear find themselves to be more at home in steadings. In fact, it's
- 2:27:22like they physically need to stay, like it's a It's considered hazardous for them
- 2:27:26to leave their settings for long periods of time because they eventually begin to develop
- 2:27:31this condition called belonging and which makes them really just crave to be back in
- 2:27:39a steading, because if they're outside of a steading for too long, they
- 2:27:43begin to deteriorate and waste away. But loyal, he decided to leave his
- 2:27:52homesteading to travel the world so that way he can because he wants to learn.
- 2:27:56He wants to see the world, He wants to learn how things have
- 2:28:00changed. Because the thing about o Gear is that o Gear are a naturally
- 2:28:05long lived race. They can live for en upwards of like nine to one
- 2:28:09thousand years nine hundred to one thousand years, and because of their slower age
- 2:28:18age rate, they don't really change much or really like approach life at a
- 2:28:24very fast paced So when Loyoll first left his steading, for one thing,
- 2:28:31loy All is about ninety years old, but for an O Gear that's about
- 2:28:35he's about the same age as like Rand, so about so in human years
- 2:28:41he would be like twenty years old or I'm sorry, so like human years,
- 2:28:46he's ninety O Gear years, he's like about twenty. So he's still
- 2:28:50considered very young, and which he did. And he tells Ran that like
- 2:28:58among his people, it's not really uh it's not really normal for a Gear
- 2:29:03to leave their studying very young, but with him, he just really wanted
- 2:29:05to see the world and learn. Technically he ran away. So uh so,
- 2:29:18yeah, Ran befriends and no Gear. Matt's mental uh mental state is
- 2:29:24declining. Moraine shows up, tells him all right, let's get the fuck
- 2:29:26out of here, and he's like, wait, what about what about Matt?
- 2:29:31Something's up with Matt. You should probably go check up on him.
- 2:29:33She's like, okay, what do you do now? So she goes upstairs,
- 2:29:37goes to the room, takes one look at Matt and she's like,
- 2:29:39okay, y'all need to back up. Everybody Okay, everybody needs to like
- 2:29:45step away. Because when they all entered the room, Igwayne and Ninive immediately
- 2:29:50went up to Matt to check up on him, because Ninive being the wisdom,
- 2:29:56she's like, you know, taking immediately taking up parole as a healer.
- 2:30:01She's checking him. He's feverish, he's like gibbering mess. But when
- 2:30:05Moraine looks at him, she's like, you need to Okay, I'm gonna
- 2:30:09need you to step away from him right now. He's very dangerous and she's
- 2:30:15like and they're all like why, It's like you took something from Shadar look
- 2:30:18off, didn't you. So Moraine ends up having so she tells everyone to
- 2:30:26leave the room, and we don't exactly see what happens, but if you
- 2:30:28watch the show, Moraine pins basically pins Matt down and takes the dagger from
- 2:30:35him, and she heels him, basically pulls out the the corruption that the
- 2:30:43dagger was infecting him with, Yeah, cleanses him of it, and the
- 2:30:48show it implies that the dagger doesn't like he's good and it's settled like he's
- 2:30:56not affected by it anymore. The thing is is that because he had the
- 2:31:01dagger on him for so long it the dagger had tied itself to him.
- 2:31:07So Maring was able to heal him and restore him to a more or less
- 2:31:11normal state, but the dagger is still connected to him, and trying to
- 2:31:16separate him from it would be detrimental to his health. So she was able
- 2:31:24to push the darkness back. But she tells them that yes, if we're
- 2:31:28gonna separate him and unbind him from the dagger, we're gonna need a full
- 2:31:31team of sisters, of Isidie sisters to do it. Separate him from the
- 2:31:35dagger. Yeah. She's like, all right, well we should get to
- 2:31:43we should get going. It's a loyal At this point, had pointed had
- 2:31:48noted to Rand after like hearing about what's happened to him so far, especially
- 2:31:56and also to Matt and Paren. He's like, huh, I've never seen
- 2:32:01one in person, but you're a tavern And Rand's like, what's a tavern?
- 2:32:05So? Taverin are people who are who don't flow in the direction that
- 2:32:13the pattern weaves them. Instead, they affect the pattern instead of the pattern
- 2:32:22affecting them. So, depending on how powerful a tavarin is, they can
- 2:32:28cause random acts of change and just weird things to happen. So whereas like
- 2:32:35the pattern affects you as a person and directs your course in life, a
- 2:32:41tavern does the opposite. It affects, They affect and change the pattern.
- 2:32:46And from what loyal just from observing Rand and his friends, it's like,
- 2:32:52you three are tavern. I've never heard of there being three at one time.
- 2:32:58And Moraine like, she kind of she's surprised that he that. She's
- 2:33:03kind of like she's surprised, and she's not surprised that he would no gear
- 2:33:07would know this. But at the same time, she's like, thanks for
- 2:33:11telling him that, you dick. She's kind of annoyed that he like spilled
- 2:33:16the beans on that because she suspected the same thing too, But either way,
- 2:33:22Morain tells them that they need to get going, but Loyole points out
- 2:33:30something that the boys had mentioned, because at this point, like Moraine's pissed
- 2:33:37at Matt and Rand's and a bit at parent too, because at this point
- 2:33:43she knows that they're hiding stuff from her, especially like with the whole dagger
- 2:33:46thing, and she's like, what else have you been hiding from me?
- 2:33:50I can't help you if you like I can't help you unless you tell me.
- 2:33:54Okay, I'm not your I'm not your enemy. I'm trying to protect
- 2:33:58you. And they properly chastised. They mentioned that they're having that they've been
- 2:34:05having these strange dreams with a dark figure calling himself Balzamon, and she's like,
- 2:34:13how long have you been having these dreams? Since since we left,
- 2:34:18since we left Emansfield, since you left Emansfield? All right, She's still
- 2:34:24trying to figure out, like she's as she's pressing them to like tell her
- 2:34:30what they've been seeing. One thing that they all describe is that they begin
- 2:34:35seeing this strange pool, like a strange area with a pool of water.
- 2:34:41They don't know what it is, but there's weird imagery and symbology and all
- 2:34:46that concerning that their common dream. And when Loyal hears this, he's like,
- 2:34:54Moraine said, I that is the eye of the world, And they're
- 2:35:00like, what's the eye of the world? The eyde of the world is
- 2:35:03this pool of sidon m That is the resting place of one of the seals
- 2:35:11on the Dark One's prison. And Loyol tells Moraine, if this is what
- 2:35:18the Dark One is showing them, then it's highly likely that the Dark One
- 2:35:24is going to try to destroy the Eye of the World and try to either
- 2:35:28maybe get get his hands one of the seals and possibly try to break it.
- 2:35:33And Moraine is like, okay, change the place we're heading to.
- 2:35:39Shanar Shinar is a country that is a borderland country. It's called a border
- 2:35:48It's called one of the It's a part of the borderlands. The borderlands is
- 2:35:52an area that is set along the territory that is controlled by the Dark One
- 2:36:00and his and his forces. This era, this territory that is controlled by
- 2:36:05the Dark One is called the Blight. It's called that because there is a
- 2:36:09growth of just death and decay in that area. So any living thing begins
- 2:36:15to rot and decay and like animals, begin to mutate and change in that
- 2:36:22area or just die out entirely. The Blight is infested with all manners of
- 2:36:26creatures from trollux miar, drawl, draw car, and even other like nasty
- 2:36:31creatures. Drag Car are these man bat creatures that are kind of like sirens.
- 2:36:43So if they start singing, which is like inco really just incoherent screeching,
- 2:36:50they hypnotize you. And this is how they hunt because if they once
- 2:36:52they get you under their spell, they will grab you and they will suck
- 2:36:58out your soul. Uh. And they do have an encounter with one,
- 2:37:03but quickly dealt with Hi. Yeah, hello, what up? Okay,
- 2:37:24I promise we're almost to the end. I'm in no rush as long as
- 2:37:30I get done by before eight by eight okay, well, okay, well
- 2:37:35we should be done soon. Okay. So we're like in the last quarter
- 2:37:37of the book. I promise I'll try to go by faster. You were
- 2:37:41you were fine, all right. So Loraine, after hearing console from Loyal
- 2:37:50about the Eye of the World, she decides that their their whole band,
- 2:37:54including Loy, all needs a head to the Eye of the World, which
- 2:37:58is currently located in the Blight. And the team is like, wait,
- 2:38:03hold up, how are we supposed to get there in time? It's hundreds
- 2:38:05of miles away. And She's like, we're gonna take We're going to take
- 2:38:11the ways, and you, Loyal are going to guide us through the ways.
- 2:38:16And Loyal's like, oh no, not the ways anything but the ways.
- 2:38:20What are the ways? You may ask? So, during the Age
- 2:38:24of Madness, some of the male channelers took shelter in steeddings because since the
- 2:38:31steeddings block your ability to channel, it protected. It gave the channelers,
- 2:38:37these men a certain level of protection from the tank, so it kept them
- 2:38:41from channeling, so they couldn't draw the team inside into themselves. The thing
- 2:38:46is these men ended up in the end, did end up leaving the stettings.
- 2:38:54They took protect they took Oh gross, not on camera. I get
- 2:39:00kissed my boyfriend. I can do it. Yeah anyway. So the thing
- 2:39:07is is that the these male channelers, they didn't stay in the settings for
- 2:39:13very long because channeling is addictive, and even though they got some protection from
- 2:39:20the taint while in the settings, they eventually left the settings over time because
- 2:39:24they just they they just can't live without the source. But as a thanks
- 2:39:30to the O Gear who sheltered them in their settings, the these male channelers
- 2:39:35created these these systems of portals called waygates. Now, these way gates are
- 2:39:46not only powered by the source, but they can grow too, So they
- 2:39:52gave So what they did was they created like a seed, like a special
- 2:39:56kind of waygate seed that they gave to the O Gear. They did this
- 2:40:03so that way the O Gear will have a safe way of traveling between steadings
- 2:40:09because their settings are like little pockets that are hundreds of miles away from each
- 2:40:15other. So O gear can't really like in order for nonal gear to travel
- 2:40:18from one setting to another, they would have to like leave their setting and
- 2:40:22travel for months, and it can be dangerous because men, especially after the
- 2:40:26Age of Madness, began to fear and mistrust O gear. So these the
- 2:40:33male channelers they created, they created this artifact for the O gear so that
- 2:40:39way they can plant outside of their settings, so they can just simply if
- 2:40:45they want to go from one setting to another, they can just take away
- 2:40:48gate. Now, the way gates, because they were created using the male
- 2:40:52half of the source, over time began to become tainted themselves. So at
- 2:40:56first when the O gear started planting the way gates, uh, the way
- 2:41:01gates don't open and just instantaneously take you from one from point A to point
- 2:41:05B. No, when you enter it, you enter this like space.
- 2:41:11And uh, well, I guess when it was first created, the old
- 2:41:16gear had to like build like these roads inside this space because it's just empty,
- 2:41:22right, And they did this and they created a very They've created a
- 2:41:26vast complex system of travel. Right, so you you would enter through one
- 2:41:35way gate. You travel along these paths that the old Gear create built,
- 2:41:41and it could take several days. It could take several days to get from
- 2:41:43one way gate to another through the ways, but several days through the ways
- 2:41:48just saved you months of travel, right. But over time, the way
- 2:41:54gates began to become corrupted, and like at first, when they were first
- 2:42:01created, it was basically like an empty space of like, it was just
- 2:42:07like white light, and of course the roads that the O Gear built through
- 2:42:11it so they could travel safely. But over time it began to become enveloped
- 2:42:18in darkness, and from this darkness a entity was born similar to Mashadar.
- 2:42:28The O Gear call it Makin Sin or mack and Shin or machin Shin,
- 2:42:35I don't know how to pronounce it. Mack and Shin or the Black Wind.
- 2:42:39The Black Wind is like this parasitic organism that was born from the taint
- 2:42:45on Siden And while it doesn't envelop all of the ways, it's this entity
- 2:42:50that will travel throughout the ways and if it catches you, it kills you.
- 2:42:56So eventually, yeah, so eventually the O Gear were forced to abandon
- 2:43:01the ways because they couldn't travel safely through it. But the problem is because
- 2:43:07they built it, like the roads inside the ways have these markers with directions
- 2:43:16on which way to go, like okay, you need to get to like
- 2:43:20you want to go to benetherne go that way, or if you want to
- 2:43:24go to Hiainar, you go that way. And well Moraine doesn't read O
- 2:43:31Gear script, Well who better to read O Gear scripts than an o Gear
- 2:43:35And at first Loyal is reluctant, but he he agrees to go with him
- 2:43:41because he's got a book to write. What better way to write a book
- 2:43:46than to travel with three Tavarian and an Is said, I yeah. So
- 2:43:52he tells him that there is a waygate in Camlin because there used to be
- 2:43:56an o Gear grove in Camelin. It's not steading. But the way that
- 2:44:00O Gear began to like rebuild their relationship with the nations after the breaking of
- 2:44:05the world was they began they took up stone working, and their work was
- 2:44:09actually really intricate and very dirty. So they ended up building like old cities
- 2:44:16for a lot of nations. And when they built these cities they built,
- 2:44:20they planted these groves because o Gear they love trees and they love plant and
- 2:44:26they love nature, so whenever they would stay in these sittings, they built
- 2:44:31these groves so that way they can have like a little piece of home.
- 2:44:35But Camelin's Grove was cut down a long time ago and built over by the
- 2:44:39newer city outside of the old o Gear city. But where the waygate in
- 2:44:45Camlin was, it was an a basement of like somewhere in the newer city.
- 2:44:48So he leads them to the new to the waygate, Moraine said,
- 2:44:54shows them how to open the way gate. And in the book, the
- 2:44:58way the way gates look from the the way gates in the show are very
- 2:45:05different. And the show they look like these two pillars and like on a
- 2:45:09platform, and she has to use the source. She has to use the
- 2:45:13source to open the waygate. But in the book they look like two they
- 2:45:18look like a pair of stone doors set into a into a wall or into
- 2:45:24like a hill. And the way you open it it's not through using the
- 2:45:28source, but by going up to the door and carved onto the waygate door
- 2:45:35itself is an image of a tree called an eventsaura. The event as is
- 2:45:41the tree of life, right and in order to open it, you have
- 2:45:43to pluck a specific leaf because there's a bunch of different leaves like carving of
- 2:45:50leaves on the tree, but only one leaf is the true trifoil leaf of
- 2:45:56the event asur so it's like a three pointed leaf. And when you pluck
- 2:46:01the leaf off, the way gate kind of comes alive because like the way
- 2:46:07it looks the way the tree is carved on the door, it looks very
- 2:46:11lifelike, but when you pluck the leaf off, it looks like it actually
- 2:46:13comes to life. And then the doors will open, and then when you
- 2:46:16want to close the door, you just put you when you want to close
- 2:46:18the way gate, you just put the leaf back onto the door, and
- 2:46:22it will start closing, but slowly, so like when you enter it,
- 2:46:26everyone walks through. They kind of go through this like it's kind of like
- 2:46:31this mirror like substance or like this field, and when they go through it,
- 2:46:37they describe it as like they're like walking through something like not like ash,
- 2:46:43like viscous liquid, but it's like they feel themselves going slower. And
- 2:46:48then once they do that, they come out on the other side and they
- 2:46:54are in the ways and it's dark they can see the path that the O
- 2:46:58Gear created built and it's old and it's unkempt, but it's still solid.
- 2:47:03Once everyone's in, Moraine puts the leaf back on the door and it starts
- 2:47:07closing and she comes right through. Now, in the show, when they
- 2:47:13all enter the ways, Matt stays behind and doesn't go with them, But
- 2:47:20in the book he does go with them, So there's a big difference there.
- 2:47:26I gotta say, though Matt is one of my least favorite characters.
- 2:47:31His personality overall is just like such a dick. But I'll but I won't
- 2:47:37get into that, not this, at least not in this episode. So
- 2:47:46they spend the next several days traveling through the ways. Loyal is guiding Is
- 2:47:52has to be the one to guide them, so they follow the path and
- 2:47:56then they reach like kind of like an island like structure with a guiding with
- 2:48:01a guiding stone in the center and on it is inscribed with directions like okay,
- 2:48:07like which way you need to go for which way gate? And uh
- 2:48:11so he reads it, it's like all right, Chinar this way, so
- 2:48:15he's so this how they spend the next few days as they get closer to
- 2:48:20shinar like. The last day that they are of their journey through the ways,
- 2:48:28they come across a keystone that has been vandalized, like there's cuts and
- 2:48:33grooves all over it. It's been completely defaced. And they also come across
- 2:48:39corpses of tralucs and when they see the trollux mariens like, so that's how
- 2:48:46they got to the two rivers. So that's how they got to the two
- 2:48:48rivers undetected. The Trulucks are using the ways and Loyal confirms that there was
- 2:48:58a waygate in a nephrin which is where the two Rivers is. So h
- 2:49:05When they find this, they do come across some trullocks and they are forced
- 2:49:09to run towards the way gate to their just to their intended way gate.
- 2:49:15When they get to the waygate, however, they realize that the trifoil leave
- 2:49:20that they need to pull off to open the gate is gone. Mean that
- 2:49:26U you, sir? I heard that? What do you fart? No?
- 2:49:33I said, uh oh, oh, I heard like a noise,
- 2:49:39sound like a fart. No. I heard you say, oh it was
- 2:49:41I heard I heard you say oh. But but like before that, I
- 2:49:46heard a sound and it sounded like a fart, and I'm like fart during
- 2:49:52our live prerecorded session. No, it was not a fart. My roommate
- 2:49:58is screaming at the TV because he's playing Eldon Rain. You probably heard that,
- 2:50:05ah fart. What do you think I am indegenerate? You are?
- 2:50:13Self proclaimed? He then self proclaimed it's okay it yeah, sure anyway,
- 2:50:26So when they reach the their exit gate, they realize that the leaf to
- 2:50:31unlock the gate is gone, so Moraine. And while they were running from
- 2:50:35the trollocks, they also realized that they can hear something else. It's like
- 2:50:39a strange kind of like almost like winding sound, and it's also they can
- 2:50:50they can also hear something like in the distance, like voices m hm.
- 2:50:54And Loy'll recognizes it and he's like, trap it up black it's a black
- 2:51:01on yep. So they run to the gate they can unlock it, so
- 2:51:07Moraine. She made it clear that especially to Igwaine and Ninive, who both
- 2:51:16demonstrated their abilities to channel, especially Ninive, because Ninive, as it turns
- 2:51:22out, is the most powerful female channeler of their age, because like,
- 2:51:28there hasn't been anybody as powerful of as her in centuries and and Moraine is
- 2:51:35like huh. When she realized that, like, she's like, huh,
- 2:51:37well, I'm not letting you go home now, you're going to Tarbalan bitch.
- 2:51:43So anyway, she tells them don't channel because in the ways, since
- 2:51:52basically since the ways were created by by Sidon, the taint is very much
- 2:51:56present here and it could affect you negatively if you channel while you're in here.
- 2:52:01Even if even though they're using Sidar, which is not touch, which
- 2:52:05is untouched by the taint, you're still gonna be affected by it. So
- 2:52:11Moraine breaks her own rule. She's like, okay, fuck it. She
- 2:52:15levels her staff and she blows like a and she shoots out a very like
- 2:52:18a white hot jet of flame at the door and she melts right through it.
- 2:52:26So the thing is the way gates can't be destroyed. They can be
- 2:52:28damaged, but they can't be destroyed. And they make it through the she
- 2:52:35ends up, she's she melts the gate open. They're able to run through
- 2:52:41it and escape the black wind. When they look back at the at the
- 2:52:46gate, it's still opened because it was damaged by Moraine, but they can
- 2:52:54see that the silvery mirror surface that that they can through has turned completely black
- 2:53:01and that's because the black wind chased them up to the gateway, but it
- 2:53:07can't go through it. Yeah, it's right there, and they're just like
- 2:53:13that's scurry, yes, s girl. So from there they make their way
- 2:53:22to Shinar, to Faldara, the capital city of Shinar. They they informed
- 2:53:31the Shinerian lord, Lord Engelmar that of their why they are there. The
- 2:53:41thing about the Borderlands is that they are unlike the rest of the nations down
- 2:53:45south. They actually trust and revere that I should eye. I mean,
- 2:53:50while they still have like a certain level of reverence for them, they don't
- 2:53:54really view them as like which if anything, if anything, they see things
- 2:54:05more plainly. They're like the Eiseneier fight are our biggest support through are basically
- 2:54:13the ones who are doing the most to fight the dark, to fight the
- 2:54:18dark and prepare for tom or guide in. Yeah. Think about the Borderland
- 2:54:22nations is that they're also a very warlike society. They form very warlike society,
- 2:54:28so war is part of their culture. So the Shineerans are like all
- 2:54:35the men are soldiers, most if not all the men are soldiers. The
- 2:54:37women are while they may not take active roles as soldiers. They do know
- 2:54:41how to defend themselves, but their role is mostly like domestic defense in case
- 2:54:48the Trollic forces come too far south, and really that's what the role of
- 2:54:54the borderlands are is to make sure the Trolics don't go any further south and
- 2:54:58also to try to fight the like keep the blight from getting further. Anglemar
- 2:55:07he gives them supplies and sets them up, and while he tries to convince
- 2:55:11them to let them take a force of soldiers into the blight with them to
- 2:55:16the eye of the world, Moraine tells them they would have a high they
- 2:55:20would be they would have a greater chance of success if they if they went
- 2:55:26into the blight with just a small team, which is basically their group,
- 2:55:28their small group. But Angelmar agrees, but he received he received a report
- 2:55:35there's a massive gathering of Trollics that are going to be coming through the this
- 2:55:41huge gap. So Anglemar is like, all right, well, at least
- 2:55:46allow us to escort you as far as the blight and then from there we
- 2:55:48will let you be while we go take care of the engage the Trilot forces.
- 2:55:54They agree, they go north, and they eventually separate from from the
- 2:56:01from the shan Errans they had the shan Aarons had to attack the to fight
- 2:56:05the trolks. While Moraine and her group enter the blight. Uh. While
- 2:56:09they're in the blight, they come up they see in the distance. As
- 2:56:13they travel deeper into the blight, they see in the distance these towers that
- 2:56:18are completely covered by the decay, and upon questioning it, Uh Moraine reveals
- 2:56:24that that that those are the seven Towers of Malkr. Malk Here was another
- 2:56:31borderland nation that unfortunately was enveloped by the blight. It fell to the blight
- 2:56:39and most of not all of that of the Malkyrian citizens died and died,
- 2:56:46including the nobility and the kings and the former leaders of the city except one
- 2:56:54oh m hm a Land mandra Man dragonman. So when he was just a
- 2:57:05baby, Land was taken from Malkiir before it fell, and he was raised
- 2:57:11in the south and his early life was chaotic and he didn't have much to
- 2:57:20live for because he was a king without a throne and a nation. But
- 2:57:26eventually Land was found by Moraine and she convinces him to become his to become
- 2:57:35her warder and Uh and ever since then like Land has served her faith faithfully
- 2:57:45again. You know, being a warder gives him a purpose and it's it's
- 2:57:50noble, it's honorable. Uh. So they make their way further into the
- 2:57:54blight. They do encounter trollocks and other nasty craters that inhabit the blight,
- 2:58:03but they eventually reached the Eye of the world. And the Eye of the
- 2:58:07World is actually protect is located in a little grove that is protected from the
- 2:58:13blight. And they also meet real quick, let me get his name,
- 2:58:18Let me get his name. Get his name? Is that a forsaken Nope?
- 2:58:26That comes later. Uh. Let's see. They reached the eye of
- 2:58:35the world and they meet the green Man. Oh, the green Man,
- 2:58:39the green Man. Yep, the green Man is a good guy. Okay,
- 2:58:45uh hold on, So the green Man is uh his name is so
- 2:58:52Meshta. He is uh a living He's a living tree, a plant net
- 2:59:03I think. Fuck? What were they called? Well, he's from a
- 2:59:09race of people called uh, he's from a race of people called the Nip.
- 2:59:15The nin unfortunately have gone extinct that we know of. They've become mostly
- 2:59:22extinct, and is believed that Semeshta is the last of his kind, and
- 2:59:28he was set by the ancient Isid Eye to protect the Eye of the World,
- 2:59:33which is a pool of siding. He reveals the Eye to them.
- 2:59:37Lauren explains to the group that the water, the water that's inside the eye
- 2:59:43is not water but essence of siding, so it is pure concentrated energy from
- 2:59:50the male half of the True Source, and it's untainted. And she kind
- 2:59:58of lets it that it is believed that it's believed that the Eye of the
- 3:00:07World will be used by the Dragon Reborn to either save the world or destroy
- 3:00:16it. It all depends because the prophecy is concerning the Dragon Reborn, which
- 3:00:22the Dragon Reborn and the Dragon himself have been mentioned kind of like offhandedly throughout
- 3:00:28the book, but it was never really it was never really hinted or implied
- 3:00:33that it would be one of the three boys, right, They don't really
- 3:00:35understand, they don't really realize their connection to this. So they view the
- 3:00:45Eye and they're like, all right, let's begin planning our let's try to
- 3:00:48think what let's try to figure out what the Dark One is going to try
- 3:00:52to do. I see, because they believe that the Dark One is going
- 3:00:56to try to taint the Eye of the World right to corrupt it so that
- 3:01:01way when the dragon reborn comes finally comes and uses it, the taint will
- 3:01:09lead him down the path of darkness, right or something like that. So
- 3:01:15the Eye of the World is inside of like a cavern, like a cave,
- 3:01:20so it's underground. So when when they come out, when they exit
- 3:01:24the cavern, they find that the grove is no longer. They're not the
- 3:01:28only ones in the grove anymore. They are confronted by two men, two
- 3:01:35mysterious figures. One looks like a really decrepit old man, we're talking like
- 3:01:41a fossil old and crusty. The other one is some creepy dude in like
- 3:01:48think Pinhead from Hell Razor, except without all the pins. But he's wearing
- 3:01:52like a weird mask with like a creepy looking smile on it. Uh.
- 3:02:01When they when they're confronted by these men, uh, these guys tell them
- 3:02:07that they're here to take They're here to take the Eye of the World.
- 3:02:09Right. And Moraine, she stands up to these two, she's all and
- 3:02:15she like basically shouts them down like she This is the first time we actually
- 3:02:18see her like Morain actually like kind of lose her composure, Like she's not
- 3:02:26like so much. She's not like screeching like wild eyed, like the hell
- 3:02:28are you? She's just like firmly like commanding them, tell me who you
- 3:02:33are? Yeah? Right, The decrepit old man Uh introduces himself. He
- 3:02:46is Agonre and his companion, whose long lost his ability to speak, is
- 3:02:54Balthamel, and they are two of the Forsaken These so Aginare and Baltimore do
- 3:03:05not appear in the show and the show when in the show, it's just
- 3:03:09Ran and Moraine who head to the Eye of the World quote unquote, I
- 3:03:13am Eye of the World. They don't actually call it that. Do they
- 3:03:18call it that? In the show? I literally just watched it, remember,
- 3:03:22do you remember it? I don't think they do. They just know
- 3:03:26they call it the Dark Ones Prison, That's what they call it. Yeah,
- 3:03:31And their confrontation is with the dark One, right, And he puts
- 3:03:37Ran into this like dream state where Ran confront like he's trying to convince Rand
- 3:03:43to join the dark Side, but Rand refuses, and Moraine had given him
- 3:03:50in the show, she gave him this little statue and she calls it a
- 3:03:52onreal Uh. And this was made by like this was made and with the
- 3:04:00power of over like a thousand male channelers, and she said it should be
- 3:04:05enough to vanquish the Dark One. And he uses it and releases its power,
- 3:04:09and it does vanquish the Dark One, and it also breaks the seal
- 3:04:13that he was standing on. But here's the thing that's not what happens in
- 3:04:18the book. For one thing, it's not the dark one they confront.
- 3:04:22Yeah, and I'm just gonna tell you right now, it's not the dark
- 3:04:24one they confront in both the show and the book. So, so here's
- 3:04:33what happens in the book. Agenor is one of the Forsaken. And he
- 3:04:39said, and he brags that he that his power was on the same level
- 3:04:43as Louise Thearren Talamon, the original Dragon. And the thing about Louise Tharren
- 3:04:48Talaman was that he was the most powerful male channeler, or rather he was
- 3:04:54the most He was as powerful as a male chandler can be with the Source.
- 3:05:00So like, physiologically speaking, there is a limit to how powerful a
- 3:05:05man or a woman can be in the Source. M So like, once
- 3:05:09they reach that level, they there's a certain level that they can reach and
- 3:05:13they can't that that they won't be able to pass all right, Now,
- 3:05:18it's really your power level is really hereditary. So if you were born,
- 3:05:28you're basically born able to channel more power than other people. So like it's
- 3:05:33just naturally how much you can pa that you can channel. But there is
- 3:05:39a limit at how powerful any channeler can be. And Lose was at the
- 3:05:43very zenith of it. A loose Therein was at the zenith, and agin
- 3:05:46Or was on the same level. Supposedly. Uh fun fact about agin Or,
- 3:05:54he created the half Men. He was the one who created at the
- 3:06:00Trolux, the Mere Drawl, the Dracar, and all the other nasties that
- 3:06:03fought on the dark one side. And Balthamel. There wasn't really much to
- 3:06:09say about Balthomel other than he just doesn't talk, he wears that creepy mask,
- 3:06:15and he's supposed to be very sadistic. When the Forsaken proclaimed themselves,
- 3:06:22the green Men attacks them, and so does Moraine. The green Man Man
- 3:06:28attacks Balthamel and the two of them end up killing each other. Like Balthamel
- 3:06:33strikes down the green Man, but the green Man and his dying with his
- 3:06:37with his dying breath causes a tree to grow and encase Balthomel killing him apparently,
- 3:06:46so he's dead as far as we know. And Moraine attacks Aginre and
- 3:06:52she creates this massive pillar of fire that shoots out of the ground and engulfs
- 3:06:58Agonre, but it doesn't do shit to him. He's just standing that he
- 3:07:01stands there in that in that pillar of flame, and he's just like eh.
- 3:07:09And Moraine tells everyone else to run, so everyone scatters, but for
- 3:07:13some reason, agin Or chases Wren so Ran Uh. He runs to the
- 3:07:26edge of the of the grove and he's kind of cornered in a like at
- 3:07:31the edge of a cliff, and he turns around he finds Agonor had followed
- 3:07:37him, and Uh. Agonor the way he's talking to Rand is almost like
- 3:07:45he knows, like Aginor knows who Rand is, but it's like he's addressing
- 3:07:50Ran differently, like it's like he's somebody else. And as Ran as he's
- 3:07:54talking, Uh, he mentioned, Agenor mentions that he and Balthamol when they
- 3:07:58were sealed, they were basically at the very edge of the seal, So
- 3:08:03while they were caught in the dreamless in the dreamless sleep, they were still
- 3:08:09affected by the flow of time, so that both of them basically ended up
- 3:08:13aging and becoming decrepit and old looking, but since they were given immortality by
- 3:08:20the Dark One, they couldn't die. So as Ran was watching him,
- 3:08:24Agonor's face was beginning to smooth out and become less decrepit and more youthful,
- 3:08:31and something clicks in Rands. He starts realizing that, like certain events that
- 3:08:41have happened in his journey have which he wasn't able to explain, are now
- 3:08:50like making sense. Like he starts realizing that he can feel something kind of
- 3:08:56like at the like at the edge of his vision, like a son like
- 3:08:58a source of light. All right, he can't see it, but he
- 3:09:03knows it's there, and he decides and he reaches for it. And when
- 3:09:09he reaches for it, he notices behind agin Or a stream of white,
- 3:09:15like a thread of white energy comes flowing towards him from somewhere in the forest.
- 3:09:20And when agin Or sees it, he freaks out and he's like,
- 3:09:22no, that's mine. But Rand seizes that thread of energy and he throws
- 3:09:30it at Agnor, and when he does that, there's a flash of light,
- 3:09:33and Rand finds himself back in that dreamscape that that Balzemont had been drawing
- 3:09:39him in every night, and Balzeml does his usual shit of mocking Rand and
- 3:09:46saying, you'll never win. We've been doing this for cycles, countless cycles,
- 3:09:52all right, but we'll break. We're gonna break the cycle this time,
- 3:09:56you know, villainous mom. Yeah. And RAN's like no, He's
- 3:10:03like uh. And he notices that surrounding him and Balzamon are these threads of
- 3:10:11energy. The one surrounding him is thinner and is glowing with this pure white
- 3:10:16energy, while Balzamon is wrapped in this thread of like black energy in both
- 3:10:22strands are like stretching off into the distance to like somewhere unseen. And Matt
- 3:10:26seeing the black thread connecting Balzama surrounding Balzamon, he gets his idea and he
- 3:10:33holds out his hands and a glimmering white sword appears in his hand. It's
- 3:10:39like crystal clear, and it looks like it's made out of a crystal.
- 3:10:43And he uses the blade and he cuts through the black thread around Balzamon,
- 3:10:50disrupting his power and cutting his connection to Ran. So Ran finds himself in
- 3:10:56another place now, this time he's in the battlefield where the Shinerians are fighting
- 3:11:01the Trollus, and the Shinerans are vastly outnumbered by the thousands of Tralucs.
- 3:11:07And Ran continually to draw on this energy. He like releases a wave of
- 3:11:13energy, lightning strikes the ground, and he obliterates the trollet forces. After
- 3:11:20this, he loses consciousness for a bit, and then when he wakes up,
- 3:11:24he's back on that cliff side where he was confronted by Agonor. And
- 3:11:28when he looks at where Agnor was standing, nothing, Agnor like just a
- 3:11:35little pile of ash. He sins. It becomes clear to Rand that uh,
- 3:11:43he's a channeler. Mm hmm, so he can use the true so
- 3:11:48he can touch the true source. And he's scared, but he doesn't tell
- 3:11:54anybody, decides not to tell anybody. Well, he does tell some people.
- 3:11:58He ends up telling his friends. Yeah, but not until much later.
- 3:12:03And uh. He goes back to the clearing where the entrance to the
- 3:12:07eye was and he finds lenn and Moraine. Moraine is still alive, but
- 3:12:11she's she looks like she looks like shit because agin Or basically bent her over
- 3:12:16his knee and whooped her ass. Damn. And but for him like the
- 3:12:24way agin Or like You don't actually see their confrontation, but the way agin
- 3:12:28Or manhandled Moraine was basically like swatting a fly. Yeah, and his friends
- 3:12:37were still there. They they managed to they managed to flee to safety.
- 3:12:41Both mel is dead and unfortunately so is the Green Man. But taking stock
- 3:12:46of their surroundings, they go back into the cavern with the Eye and they
- 3:12:50realize and they find that the pull of Sidon is gone vanished, And basically
- 3:12:58what happened was is that ran had pulled the power from the Eye of the
- 3:13:03World and that's what he used to strike down agon Or too uh uh,
- 3:13:11kick Balzama, give Balzman the boot, and also wipe out the to wipe
- 3:13:16out the Trilot forces. They go into the but they find that the poll
- 3:13:22had actually contained several artifacts. First and foremost, they find a box,
- 3:13:30big ivory box that when Moraine, Moraine identifies as some form of form of
- 3:13:37capsule that was left over from the Age of Legends, and she triggers the
- 3:13:41mechanism and it opens and it reveals an artifact known as the Horn of Valier.
- 3:13:48Now in the show, it turned the Horn of Valier was hidden in
- 3:13:54the Chineran Forces Fortress of Uh, but in the book it was actually hidden
- 3:14:03and preserved in the eye of the world. And think about the Horn of
- 3:14:07Valier. And the horn of Vilier is important because it's the center. It
- 3:14:11is the centerpiece of book two. But aside from the Horn of Haler,
- 3:14:18just real quick, what it does is that when you blow the horn,
- 3:14:20it summons the spirit of ancient heroes, so it'll summon it'll summon the spirits
- 3:14:28of one hundred uh heroes of legend and they will fight for you Jack,
- 3:14:35and it's and the horn is important because when tom or Guiden comes that they're
- 3:14:39supposed to use it to help them to summon the dead heroes to fight with
- 3:14:43them. Mm hmm. But it's important, but the horn will become important
- 3:14:48in book two, so put that aside. Next next they find a white
- 3:14:56banner and on the banner is a figure of a strange animal. He describes
- 3:15:01it. Ran describes it as like something like a serpent that has like scales
- 3:15:07and four legs, and Moraine points out that that is that that is a
- 3:15:11dragon. It is this is the banner of Loosethyron Talaman, the original dragon,
- 3:15:18and wrapped in and wrapped inside the banner is one of is the Seal
- 3:15:26of the Dark Is, the one of the seals of the Dark Ones prison,
- 3:15:30and it's broken, well ship the seal. The thing is is that
- 3:15:41in the show, it's implied that very powerful channelers can break guendolar objects.
- 3:15:48Guendolar Is this magical substance also called hearthstone, and it's it's used. Its
- 3:15:56main purpose is to create artifacts called angril. Angriol are basically like arcane focuses.
- 3:16:03They're indestructible, and if a channeler uses one, it allows them to
- 3:16:07safely draw upon more energy from the true source. In fact, Moraine in
- 3:16:15the in the book carries an ingreole. It's a statuette of a woman,
- 3:16:18and she uses it to help boost her power. But like I said,
- 3:16:24guendolar Is is unbreakable. In fact, when you channel energy into when you
- 3:16:31channel uh, when you channel the source through in angriol, it makes it
- 3:16:35stronger. Apparently, so everyone including Moraine, are looking at this broken quendolar
- 3:16:46seal and they're just like, well, fuck fuck us, then damn.
- 3:16:58Whever one's wondering what does this mean, Mauren is like it means that the
- 3:17:05Dark Ones, Well, yes, but it means that the dark ones see
- 3:17:09the Dark One is the seals are weakening, and the dark One as soon
- 3:17:15will soon break free and uh the end the book comes to an end.
- 3:17:22They make their way back to Faldera and they're given the heroes welcome and because
- 3:17:30they succeeded in protecting the Eye of the world. And while they don't tell
- 3:17:35the people aside from Lord Angel maarn Is and his other lords who serve in
- 3:17:41that the seal is broken, the first seal has broken, and we found
- 3:17:46the horn of the Leer, uh the Shineer, and Lord tells him that
- 3:17:50all right, well, we're gonna need to get you guys out of here,
- 3:17:52because for one thing, I can't look at that horn without wanting to
- 3:17:56call upon the spirits of the ancient hero to help us and go charging into
- 3:18:03the blight to take care of this once and for all. Yeah, Rand
- 3:18:07reveals to his friends that he can channel and that once things started settled here
- 3:18:15he plans on going off on his own so that way he doesn't hurt them,
- 3:18:18because right now, even though he can channel, he hasn't gone mad
- 3:18:22yet. He still has a lot of time. But the problem, what
- 3:18:24is once you first touch the source, and you start calling on it more
- 3:18:28and more, the more addictive addicted to it you become. So the thing
- 3:18:37is is that when he's telling his friends this, he doesn't realize that Morain,
- 3:18:41who's using a neat little trick of hers, using that blue stone she
- 3:18:45wears she can listen in on conversations from afar. It can see it goes
- 3:18:50to her holding her stone, and she was listening to the whole conversation,
- 3:18:54and the books ends with her like like, so it's fine, hold on,
- 3:19:01let me let me, let me pull up the actual quote from the
- 3:19:05book. So here's the scene. Just this is a direct quote from the
- 3:19:11book and an angle in Aglmar's private garden, under a thick bower dotted with
- 3:19:18white blossoms. Moraine shifted on her bed chair. The fragments of the seal
- 3:19:24lay on her lap, and the small gems she sometimes wore in her hair
- 3:19:26spun and glittered on its golden chain from the ends of her fingers. The
- 3:19:31faint blue glow faded from the stone, and a smile touched her lips.
- 3:19:35It had no power in itself, the stone, but the first use she
- 3:19:39had ever learned of the one power as a girl and the Royal Palace of
- 3:19:43in Krahine was using the stone to listen to people when they thought they were
- 3:19:48too far off to be overheard. The prophecies will be fulfilled, the Isidi
- 3:19:54whispered, the Dragon is reborn. So in the so in the like I
- 3:20:01said in the show, she tells them all straight up that she was looking
- 3:20:05for the Dragon reborn, and towards the end, Rand comes to her and
- 3:20:11tells her he thinks it's him because he realizes he can channel, and that's
- 3:20:15why she takes him to the Dark Ones prison, and that's when she gives
- 3:20:18him that little so sot ungriol and he uses it to vanquish the Dark One.
- 3:20:26But in the books, she doesn't tell him shit. She doesn't tell
- 3:20:30him why she came to Emansfield in the first place, she doesn't tell him
- 3:20:33what she suspects that those three boys might be. She just says, the
- 3:20:37Dark One, the dark forces are interested in you, and I need to
- 3:20:39protect you. That's all. That's all she told him, that it's all
- 3:20:41in her mind. That's all they needed to know. But at the very
- 3:20:45end, she she tells herself the Dragon is reborn, and the Dragon Reborn
- 3:20:52is rand al Thor. But that that and that is where book one ends.
- 3:21:03If you listen to this, this is probably it's been a lot since
- 3:21:07we did a long episode. This one is from looking at my recording,
- 3:21:13three hours and thirty one minutes. I'm pretty sure you're gonna cut that down.
- 3:21:18So it's still over two hours. Oh, it's still gonna I mean,
- 3:21:20it's still gonna be quite a bit. Like I don't cut Yeah,
- 3:21:22I probably won't cut too much off. It should probably just be the beginning.
- 3:21:26But then once we began, that's maybe some of the space spaces in
- 3:21:31between, of course, those little parts. For the most part, I
- 3:21:33think I'll probably stick to be in three hours. Yeah. So yeah,
- 3:21:43so this was book one of The Wheel of Time The Eye of the World.
- 3:21:48Next week we are going to talk about book two in the series,
- 3:21:54which is called The Great Hunt. Yeah. I promise you guys, this
- 3:22:01will. I promise they will. In book two, rand does learn that
- 3:22:09he is the Dragon, that he is the Dragon Reborn, or at least
- 3:22:11the iaid I believe he's the Dragon Reborn. Yeah, and they will,
- 3:22:16and they do. Moraine as well as some other isaid I who come to
- 3:22:22him they explain to him why they think he is the one, and Moraine
- 3:22:28does have evidence and much too Ninive's annoyance. Ninivehs also provides the evidence that
- 3:22:37Ran could be because the little spoilers for next what to expect and the prophecies
- 3:22:46of the dragon. It is said that the dragon will be reborn in the
- 3:22:52place that he in the very place that he died, and in this case
- 3:22:56it is on the steps of the dragon amount, which is the volcano that
- 3:23:01was created when LUs Tharn killed himself. Oh Dan yep, and just so
- 3:23:11happens. Twenty years ago, all these nations were broiled in a long war
- 3:23:22called the i Eel War. The Ieal War was this brutal conflict with between
- 3:23:31Carahind, tier Ilien and or Tarbalon and a few other and a bunch of
- 3:23:35other nations. They were all they all had to band together to fight these
- 3:23:45to fight the a Eel, who are desert people that come from the place
- 3:23:48they call the a Eel waste. The reason why the a Eel went to
- 3:23:54war with all these nations was because the king of Carahin, which is where
- 3:23:58morains from, he cut down a tree and turned it into a throne Wow.
- 3:24:09The significance of that tree is that that tree was an off was an
- 3:24:13offspring of the Aventisura, the Tree of Life. It was given to the
- 3:24:18Kings of Carahim by the a Eel, who have a living descendant of the
- 3:24:24Tree of Life in their possession, and as a sign of friendship they gave
- 3:24:28it. They gave the Kings of Carahm a sapling. So Carahine is set
- 3:24:35on the borders of the Ael Waste. Like the Ael Waste is separated from
- 3:24:39all these other lands by a massive mountain range called the Spine of the world.
- 3:24:43Yeah, all right, and uh, there's a gap in the spine
- 3:24:50where they can cross through, where the Aeel and the Krahenians can go through.
- 3:24:58And the Iel as a sign of friendship, gave the sapling to the
- 3:25:03Carrahanians as a sign of friendship and also letting them know that as as part
- 3:25:09of our friendship, you are free to enter and cross through the Aeel Waste
- 3:25:13to reach this other land on the other side of the Iel Waste called Shara.
- 3:25:18It's where all the silk trade comes That's where all the silk trade comes
- 3:25:22from. But one of the last kings of the last king of Kirahin and
- 3:25:28his arrogance and ambition, he ordered the tree to be cut down and made
- 3:25:35into a throne. When the ael found out about this, they were pissed.
- 3:25:43I saw that as he They saw this as a huge insult to themselves.
- 3:25:48And there's about like, I forgot how many a eel clans there are.
- 3:25:54I think there's like about I think like ten or eleven of them.
- 3:26:01I gotta look it up later. But of those clans, three clans declared
- 3:26:07war on Kerahim, and those three clans banded together and crossed the spine and
- 3:26:13attacked Kerahine. See, the thing is is that there the a eels beef
- 3:26:22wasn't with the people of Carain. It was with the king. And their
- 3:26:26goal was to kill the king, all right, that was their target.
- 3:26:31And the thing is the king was like, oh shit, they're coming from
- 3:26:35me. So he ran. He fled to Tier, to Ilien, to
- 3:26:39and Or and a few other countries before finally fleeing to Tarbalaan. And everywhere
- 3:26:46he fled, the aeel followed him. There was about twenty thousand a eel
- 3:26:50that crossed the mountains and attacked. Yeah, those twenty thousands those an a
- 3:27:00Eel was more than enough to like obliterate the armies of the other nations.
- 3:27:05Like the other nations like at first were fighting like fighting like on their own,
- 3:27:09but when they realized that they weren't enough to fight to stave off the
- 3:27:13a Eel, they'd band together to try to like fight back, and they
- 3:27:18still lost. Damn Yeah, the ael are badass, and they ended up
- 3:27:24pushing back all these the allied forces to Tarvelan. The thing is the Aeel
- 3:27:30they have like a huge level of respect for the for the ice at Eye.
- 3:27:35So while they were sieging Tarvlon, they weren't actually attacking Targlon itself.
- 3:27:39They were attacking the armies that were outside of Tarvlon. And the thing is
- 3:27:48the because of how powerful the isid Ie are, they were able to they
- 3:27:50kept the a Eel from entering their city. So it wasn't only to this
- 3:27:54day Tarblon has never fallen and uh because and that is because of the White
- 3:28:01Towers protection. Now, the king, King Damadred, he did this,
- 3:28:07The dumbass did flee to targle On, but he was like all right,
- 3:28:13last stand. He decided to meet the a Eel fate head like head on,
- 3:28:18and the battle uh ended up like the final battle ended up being on
- 3:28:26the at the steps of the dragon mounts, and the a Eel succeeded.
- 3:28:33They finally killed the king. And once they killed the king, they're like,
- 3:28:37all right, peace, they went back to the Iowas. That's it,
- 3:28:41but all right, we're done here. But during the battle. The
- 3:28:46thing about the a Eel is that the i Eel, Uh, they're not
- 3:28:52just an all male warrior society. Like, they're not a society where only
- 3:28:56the men fight, women fight too, And and the women are called maidens
- 3:29:01of the Spear. And there was one particular maiden who was pregnant, yeah,
- 3:29:09during the battle. And he watched to the very end of the If
- 3:29:16you watch to the very end of this of season one, there was a
- 3:29:20scene where there was an ill woman fighting a bunch of soldiers on a snowy
- 3:29:24mountain and she ends up giving birth. That was Rand's mother. Well something
- 3:29:28happened, well, something like that happened in the books. But where in
- 3:29:33the show tam al Thor found his mom, Rand's mother and helped her give
- 3:29:41birth. In the book, he does find the mother and baby Ran,
- 3:29:46but the thing is his mother gave berta rant and died as a as a
- 3:29:52result, and tam al Thor he only found Ran after the fact. He
- 3:29:58like, while he was in the middle of the battlefield, he heard the
- 3:30:03cries of a baby and he followed it and he found a poor baby Rand
- 3:30:09like nearly frozen after death, and his dead mother, who was an i
- 3:30:13ill woman. Yeah, it's made into the spear, and that's the first
- 3:30:20part of the prophecies of the dragons was fulfilled. The dragon was would be
- 3:30:24reborn on the in the place of his death. Leffoonery m hm. And
- 3:30:33yes, that does mean that Rand is also an i e Eel. Yeah,
- 3:30:39he was raised in the two Rivers, so he's technically not an ay
- 3:30:41eel. But later on this does his connections to the I Eel give him
- 3:30:50an edge. Yeah, there's there's a lot, a lot, a lot
- 3:30:56of good ship. I thought, I just wanted to tell you all about
- 3:30:58this because like he is, he will be told of this later on,
- 3:31:03and he learns more about his ill family, mainly his parents whose parents were
- 3:31:11but we don't learn that until book four. Damn Well, like the details
- 3:31:16about his parents from the Aeel, he won't learn about until book four.
- 3:31:20But the events of what happens of his birth on the Dragon Mount and how
- 3:31:26he was found, yeah, those are more though he is told more about
- 3:31:30that in book two. But other than that, we have officially gone thirty
- 3:31:37minutes over Jesus Christ and he wanted me to be finished by eight and it's
- 3:31:41already eight thirty. Yeah. So that is the first book of the Whale
- 3:31:48Time series, y'all. Yay, don't watch the Netflix series so much.
- 3:31:58Yes, I'm recommending sorry Amazon series, you got me. I almost said
- 3:32:03it too. Yeah, definitely go watch the series. I mean when I
- 3:32:05first watched the series, it got me so hooked that I was like,
- 3:32:09I gotta read the I want to see like it's based off of book ship.
- 3:32:11Let me check it out. Fuck, there's fourteen books. I'm gonna
- 3:32:15read it. Yeah, I'm gonna read them all, and I have,
- 3:32:20well, not all of them. I'm only halfway through, like well almost
- 3:32:24halfway through. I'm on, I'm almost done with book sixam and yeah.
- 3:32:31Yeah, though like so far, book five was my favorite mm hmm,
- 3:32:37especially because there was a certain scene where a certain evil lady yeah latched jealousy,
