- riverside mafia mayhem radiers bills mafia carolin: Bill's sweep in the West. I'm not sure we all had that when that schedule came out, but they do it. Five and one, headed in the bye. We're talking about it. Mafia Mayhem coming up next. All right, guys, the Bills are five and one heading into the bye, and we're talking about here a Mafia Mayhem. And overall, good game by the Bills. Josh Allen, just incredible. I mean, we talk about it for years on this podcast. We talk, it feels like we're talking about it weekly. Other fans are probably really sick of hearing this, but I mean, Josh Allen Josh Allen is one of the greatest athletes that has ever played the game by far. And Just the ability for the Bills to never be out of a game, I think, is what makes Josh Allen so good. So good. The Bills offense played great. Josh Allen was 23 of 35. So the passing game was back into it. He had 255 yards passing and two TDs, and obviously that one T D that everyone is talking about, the shovel pass. That was a shovel pass that I believe the ball started on the 20. And then Josh, I think I could be wrong, but then Josh ran up a little bit and then shoveled it. And it was a 12 yard shovel pass. 12 yards. You know how hard that is to shovel pass 12 yards in the air to a wide receiver? Incredible. Mahomes like for sure. So he he got two TDs and just a Unbelievable T D there by Josh. James Cook, we talked about it on the matchup and the bring it. The Raiders were 140 yards. They give up a game. And so James Cook gets to 95. And he had that unbelievable go ahead TD, but really he had that amazing third down play there that kind of sealed the game where everyone went to the right and then Josh flipped it to the left. So James Cook back at where he needs to be. He's at like six hundred and thirty-seven yards, I think, six hundred and fifty yards maybe. I think it's six hundred and thirty-seven yards this year. He and he is on pay he's on a better pace running the ball, rushing yards than he was last year, which is crazy. Crazy to think. So hopefully that continues into the bye. Keon Coleman, he had a receiving touchdown, and he has played outstanding these last two games. So I just want take a quick moment here on Keon Coleman. If you listen to the show in the offseason and last year, I am was not a Keon Coleman fan at all. In fact, I had called for trading Keon Coleman in the draft. I thought that the Bills would do that. I just thought he was a liability. It did not look like Josh can really trust him. So I was not a Keon Coleman fan. I wasn't a Keon Coleman fan leading into Houston. But with all of that said, I am on the Keon Coleman bandwagon. He has showed up the way that I think I wanted him to show up the last couple years. And he has gotten there. And he is going to be a force. So all the props in the world to Keon Coleman, he proved me wrong. He proved many people wrong. And if that Keon Coleman can stay the way it needs to stay throughout the rest of the season, and Kincaid and DJ Moore are healthy, this is going to be the wide receiver room or wide receiver situation that we've been wanting Josh Allen to have since the Beasley and Diggs season. I truly believe that. If they can stay healthy going the back end of the season, that is going to be dangerous. Dangerous for any team that's playing the Bills. I want to also say, too, you know, the Bills have put up 30 plus points on teams, okay? Without DJ Moore. So the times that DJ Moore has not been playing in the games, the Bills have put up 30 points, 30 plus points there. That's a statement of Joe Brady. That's a statement of the offense, and it's a statement of Keon Coleman. So adding DJ Moore back into the mix and the Bills are already rifling off thirty points a game without DJ Moore, that I mean, the sky's the limit really when it comes to scoring. If DJ Moore comes back healthy and Kincaid is healthy. That could be a absolute wagon of an offense if they're putting up thirty points a game without DJ Moore. So really interesting to see what goes on there. And then T Bass, Tyler Bass, I mean A lot we don't talk a lot about him on on the show here, but you gotta give TJ T Tyler Bass a ton of credit coming off a season where he was hurt, makes four field goals. he is he he hasn't he hasn't missed a extra point all season. Just really, really good job by the Bills and Tyler Bass. Really the special teams has played well all year, but props to Bass for getting. Four kicks. No, again, the d the Bills defense, keeping games or keeping teams in games. That's kind of been the the whole question going into these six games here. I want to give some props though to the defense. I thought the defense looked different, and partially because they played more man to man defense. And I think that that's what we're all looking for. And then it didn't go bad at all. In fact, we shut down Bowers. Who I thought was going to be an issue for the Bills. They Benford traveled with Bowers, which is interesting to see going forward if that's what they're going to do. But I thought they held Brock Bowers in check. Didn't really hurt us to an extent that I think all of us really thought was going to happen, especially with the Bills secondary. So the Bills played a a lot of man to man versus zones there, and it looked good. Certainly there was plays being made by the Raiders, but I thought the Coverages were a lot tighter. The wide receivers had to really fight for the ball. So that was really encouraging. Really encouraging by the Bills defense. And I'm excited to see what that carries over. I thought IGB played really well. I thought Harrison played well. I thought really the secondary kind of came together a little bit. And like I said, really kind of really kind of put Bowers kind of out of the game there. CJ Gardner. Johnson, take a moment here to talk about this. So I going into the season, and if you've been with me throughout the start of the season, really preseason, you would have known that CJ Gardner Johnson was my pick for free agent signing of the year for the Bills. I just thought this in the in the tenure of Sean McDermott, this is a player that the Bills are not picking up. Not because he's what I thought was a good player, but it was really more the off-field distractions and kind of what we saw Sunday. And the MO on CJ Gardner Johnson was he's an impact player, but you gotta take the good with the bad. And the bad is the off-field stuff, the interviews and those type of things. So going into the season, I felt that was going that was obviously a tremendous upgrade from. From Damar Hamlin, but I thought that that was kind of like a a different attitude for the Bills. You know, like kind of the Rex Ryan, Jim Leonard playing days kind of kind of defense. So I was excited about that. Has he played well in the backfield? No, certainly. But I still felt like that he would be an impact player down the road. And then you get to Sunday, where he spits on a player, supposedly, or spits to the ground, whatever he wants to call it there. But that's the stuff that you gotta live with. And this is going to be interesting by Brandon Bean. I don't know how much Pagul is going have a say in this, but more Brandon Bean and Brady. Because the Bills have built this culture, and this is why it's probably shocking to many when they got him. They built this dynamic structure. And now they let CJ Gardner in because he's capable of being a game play a game changing safety. But then you got to deal with the offseason. And a lot of fans who had CJ Gardner on their team would hit me up saying he's good now, but wait until something happens. And something happens on s happened on Sunday. And I suspect him to be suspended. There's a lot of talk there by the Bill by fans that they may let him go. And I I'm not a hundred percent sure I'm bored with that, especially that leaves with Damar Hamlin as your safety. And you know how I feel about Damar. So it's going to be interesting to see what Brandon Bean does here. Now, CJ's on a one year deal, so if they do let him go, you know, not a not a big deal. But you're losing that upgrade from Damar Hamlin that that really played last year to CJ Gardner. So it's one of those things where you it's give and take. Are you gonna deal with the consequences of the actions that were done on Sunday? Because you know you It's an upgrade from your current safety spot with a Hamlin, or is this going to be something where it is, we built this culture here. This is our standard. You violated that standard. We're not sure what's going to go on going forward. You really haven't played well, so we're going to move on. So it's going be interesting to see what happens with CJ Gardner Johnson going forward, especially with the bye, and also specially with Kind of the culture aspect of it. Big props of Dorian Williams. I did not realize that was his first pick of his career. He's a linebacker, so I suppose that probably played part. But big big props of the Dorian Williams. Great play. Just kind of hung out in that zone. He knew where the ball was coming and picked it off. So really encouraging to see that. Overall, I thought the defense was really encouraging. Again, we're giving up points. I get that. I'm not blind to that, but you know, there's give and take there. The the Bills run defense has played really well these six games. And that is an encouraging sign, especially the run defense we've had trouble with with McD under McDermott's defense. The the Bills really still kind of struggled in the first half to get touchdowns. The Bills are just too good to not be scoring touchdowns. So the red zone, especially on that team, Oakland was seventy seven point seventy seven point eight percent and giving touchdowns to the red zone. So That's going to be an interesting piece going forward, how they clean that up. The Bills should be c the Bills should be, you know, putting drives away for seven. You know, the game was tied at 13 13 at halftime. Part of that had to do with the fact that the Bills couldn't couldn't put away a red zone touchdown. So it's going to be interesting to see what the Bills do going forward on there. You know, but the Bills played well enough to win that game, but they kept the Raiders in that and the Bills defense kept the Raiders in the game. That's something I'm going to be looking at. you know, with this buy here. And going into the buy, the Bills have had the ability to get some injury guys back. You know, you got Ed Oliver like I'm DJ Moore, like I mentioned. So, you know, those guys are going to be good, hopefully coming back. And it's going to be the buy is going to be a a time to really address some of the concerns, some of the problems that the Bills have on defense. The trade deadline is c is fast approaching here. So it's going to be interesting to see what the Bills do. And and obviously, like I mentioned earlier, the CJ Gardner thing and how they're gonna handle that. Listen, the Bills are five and one. I'll take that every single time, right? Did I think the Bills are gonna be five and one at the bye? No, I didn't. I thought there'd be two or three losses going into the bye, really only because I wasn't sure about Joe R Joe Brady as a head coach. I know the offense wouldn't really change, but you know, as a head coach, there's different avenues, different different things you gotta do, but the offense is just humming. They're scoring 30 points plus without DJ Moore. So yeah, definitely. And to be quite honest with you, I thought the going into the season, I thought the defense was going to be the better of the two sides of the ball. And really they're not. So the fact that we're five and one with this defense, who looked a little better against the Raiders, I mean, that's a win. That is a win for any Bills fan. Five and one going into the break. The question isn't whether the Bills can win games. I mean, they've proven that. They've gone five and one with a defense that's rearling and with are you know, your best wide receiver out of the game. So the Bills can win games. There's no question about it. But as we go into the buy, the question isn't necessarily can they win games in the season? It's can they win games in January when it counts? And so The buy is an opportunity for the Bills to figure out the defense because the Bills are going to need the defense to be much better than what they've been these last six games. If the Bills want to get over the hump and give Josh Allen the opportunity for that Super Bowl he deserves. So enjoy this Sunday coming up, Bills Mafia, as it's it's going to be a relaxing Sunday.
