Speaker 4: Grandma Gail from Long Distance.
• 1:10
Speaker 3: Long distance relationship, long distance with grandma.
• 1:14
Speaker 4: Very difficult. This is very difficult.
• 1:17
Speaker 3: Most well, in my relationship, we can get on FaceTime, and it doesn't take four hours to
• 1:23
Speaker 4: But your grandma can't do it. And it's too complicated. You're gonna have to set this up for me at another time where it's easy. I we couldn't get on the Zoom. We couldn't get on my iPad.
• 1:33
It's the first of my equipment is so old. You probably can't even get on it.
• 1:38
Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, Grandma, the fact that you run a media company and are full time adviser and you can't have like, you don't have a laptop. You don't know how to get on Zoom.
• 1:50
Speaker 4: Well, I have a laptop, but I'm getting I I don't know how to work it. Never opened it. Well, now I'm charging it. So when you come down, you could teach me. And I'm having a lesson down here on it too.
• 2:02
Maybe I'll be able to figure it out by the time you get here.
• 2:05
Speaker 3: Yeah, every time we do a virtual podcast, I'm never positive if we will get to the recording.
• 2:11
Speaker 4: Well, we might not. So then we wasted an hour and that's it.
• 2:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, in this case, I did learn that when I am down there I should have this set up for you with instructions and it should be an easier thing but because we're learning our groove and this is the first virtual in a really really long time because usually even when we did virtual podcasts years ago, we were usually still together and just our guest was virtual.
• 2:39
Speaker 4: Exactly. This is too hard for grandma but all right we'll figure it out. Come on let's talk about something. First I want to tell you everybody is asking for you. Went to a new adorable adorable little, like, gourmet shop where they have sandwiches, salads, even a lot of salads.
• 2:56
It's in it's a little bit bouquet's new location on Peruvian, has a little like a sandwich place and dessert and fabulous all kinds of salads. Of course, grandma got I got a croque monsieur, which was really being a pig. But, anyway, it's charming. And I two people took pictures with me, and then I went somewhere else, and and I didn't have any makeup on. I don't know why.
• 3:20
  Speaker 3: I I don't know what specific Again?
• 3:21
Speaker 4: Again, I went out without being properly coiffed, and my hair is terrible in Florida. I must say the one bad thing about Florida for Grandma Gail is hair. I think you have to go to the hairdresser every other day here. It becomes, I don't have curls and now I have curls in my hair. Everybody can Yeah, give my bad and it's very, very humid today.
• 3:44
Speaker 3: Yeah. If you guys wanna hear Grandma Gail every week be a weather reporter, please remember to follow the show. If you already follow us, leave a positive review. It really makes a difference. And we love hearing what you guys love about each episode so we make sure we do it more message me on Instagram or TikTok it's Excuse My Grandma but the show must go on virtually and I love hearing that everyone's asking for me in Florida.
• 4:14
Speaker 4: A lot of new places have opened they'll probably close it in two weeks. I
• 4:18
  Speaker 3: like what?
• 4:19
Speaker 4: Give people the Well there was a remember when we were in Greece many years ago in Mykonos and we got those pocketbooks that I still wear with the beads. You got the designer evidently opened a shop here. They are in St. Bart's, she told me, in two different locations, but they finally came here. There are loads of places now for people, I think for younger people, to go for fabulous coverups.
• 4:46
I I never saw so many beautiful coverups in my life to go over bathing suits. And they had great accessories, great little bags that are so interesting, and jewelry. And then we went to this new little gourmet shop that was terrific. And lots of little new places that opened. I mean, they are smaller shops and they're fine because the big stores have all left Palm Beach, the big box stores.
• 5:11
Speaker 3: And then the hits are the same, right? Like you still got the classics.
• 5:16
Speaker 4: Well, there's certain things that are classic down there here. Ralph Lauren still looks beautiful in the window. Those windows still look great. And the same restaurants are basically here. Nothing new is really opened here on the island yet, but I'm sure in West Palm, when we start having an adventure, when you come down, we'll find lots of places.
• 5:37
Speaker 3: Okay. But restaurants feel the same.
• 5:39
Speaker 4: Yes. We went to same fish. Poppy had the same fish on fruit at Lonegaloo, which you love, and he had it the other night. He said it's as good as usual. Tonight, we're gonna go out.
• 5:50
I'm gonna we're going out to West Palm and going to go to kitchen, which I love. I love the sea bass there. Yeah. No. Everything is the same.
• 6:00
Everything basically is the same. I was actually wanting to go to Surfside for lunch yesterday, and there was a line to get in for lunch. People don't think people are here, but they are here. Know, the regulars are here. It's just not the Christmas crowd yet or the Thanksgiving group.
• 6:18
Speaker 3: Mhmm. But it's been your Have you had your well done hot dog yet at the Breakers?
• 6:23
Speaker 4: Well, that's a very big problem. Now you want to hear the trauma? Of course. They closed the main eating outside area of the hotel where we are in Florida under construction, supposedly going to open by Christmas time. So there's an outside area near one of the pools where the kids are, and that's still open.
• 6:44
So I went yesterday with your mom and dad, we sat outside, and it was very nice. So all of a sudden, we're sitting at our table and there's a hawk, literally a hawk on a stand, and he's watching. Because we have a big problem in the restaurant stand here with the birds. They come in and swoop down and take your food. Now they put a hawk a a live hawk, and he has a trainer.
• 7:09
And he sits there, and the birds don't down.
• 7:11
Speaker 3: Palm Beach. Only in Palm Beach.
• 7:14
  Speaker 4: Like, what
• 7:14
Speaker 3: do you mean they hired a hawk with a trainer? Like, so people Yeah.
• 7:18
Speaker 4: Mother was beside herself because she said the hawk was getting overheated. So she called over somebody and said, please, the bird is getting too hot. It's in the sun. She wanted him to put an umbrella over the hawk, but the the trainer came, saved the day, and sprayed the hawk with water because, evidently, it is very hot for the hawk to be sitting out in the sun. Mommy was right.
• 7:40
Speaker 3: Hawk is the hawk locked up?
• 7:43
Speaker 4: Well, it's you know, when they have these hawks, they have them on a long chain, and it's sitting on a post with food. So he watches
• 7:52
Speaker 3: And they and they keep it in the sun?
• 7:54
Speaker 4: Well, he's in the sun. Hopefully, maybe they'll put an umbrella. Mommy's right. It needs an umbrella over the hawk.
• 8:00
Speaker 3: When did Barbara Merstein become PETA?
• 8:04
Speaker 4: She became she's everything. She is so busy with this hawk. Yesterday, I thought there was gonna be a trauma. Now and they're bringing in a second hawk because the birds are not coming where the hawk is. It's very interesting.
• 8:17
This is wild. Nature study. It is wild.
• 8:20
Speaker 3: I need a picture of this hawk when you go to lunch.
• 8:22
Speaker 4: And your father's only afraid that one of the kids are gonna go up and put their finger in the hawk's feet.
• 8:26
  Speaker 3: For sure.
• 8:28
Speaker 4: Sounds That's so cute. This was all lunch yesterday. It was hawk conversation.
• 8:34
Speaker 3: To quote you, it's a recipe for disaster.
• 8:37
  Speaker 4: I think that's true, but they're there.
• 8:40
Speaker 3: Yeah. That sounds really crazy.
• 8:44
Speaker 4: I don't even is still very naughty. He's barking and everything.
• 8:48
  Speaker 3: My dog's a girl.
• 8:49
Speaker 4: Your dog is a girl, and she's barking. She's barking. And so I actually think she's worse down here than in New York. Maybe she
• 8:57
Speaker 3: Well, you should mom and dad should leave the Millie with me.
• 9:02
Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. That's very good. That's what you need, a responsibility of walking a dog all day long.
• 9:08
Speaker 3: Otherwise, I sit home all day. It would be a good way to get out of the apartment.
• 9:12
Speaker 4: Okay. Well, you shouldn't be sitting home. You should be walking around your beautiful neighborhood. I got I heard a great brand new restaurant. I was listening to a program this morning on Squawk Box.
• 9:22
A guy was saying the best restaurant. And the number one that he thought in New York was Borgan, an Italian restaurant on 29th And And Park.
• 9:35
Speaker 3: Oh, I feel like maybe it sounds familiar, but I have not been there. So I'll look it up.
• 9:40
Speaker 4: You have to look that up.
• 9:41
Speaker 3: So is there, like, an excitement of all of your friends being back in Florida, like, for this season? Like, it sounds like welcome week in college, but for 80 year olds.
• 9:51
Speaker 4: Well, I well, don't be so nasty. It's not only 80 year olds. It's anybody who's who's living down here.
• 9:57
  Speaker 3: We have lots
• 9:58
Speaker 4: of 50 and 60 and 70 year olds here.
• 10:01
Speaker 3: It sounds like a week for 50 year olds.
• 10:05
Speaker 4: Well, okay. That's true. But I have to say everyone is happy to be here and everybody started playing Marjane. So you have different Marjane games all over the place. And so that's fun.
• 10:17
That's a little different. I've already played bridge, came out in the middle in my duplicate game. Everything is exactly you know what happens? It's very much the same.
• 10:27
Speaker 3: Well, I have been sick literally until today for the last month, it feels like.
• 10:32
Speaker 4: No. And just since your wedding, since you went to Newport.
• 10:35
Speaker 3: Well, not my wedding. My friend's wedding right but yes like every time I'm sick I'm sick for forever and I did see mom and dad before they left for Florida and you know mom's a hypochondriac so when I came up town to film with you we filmed at mom's since she has good light. And I was like quarantined to one room in the house.
• 10:55
Speaker 4: You did touch every room. So if anything was contagious, which you weren't really, you certainly went in from one bathroom to another bathroom, to another room to the kitchen. So and she's she gets very nervous about that. But alright. It it is what it is.
• 11:12
It's a lot of that going around. There was a lot they evidently, a lot of people down here had the same thing, but they ended up thank heavens, you didn't get it with the cough at the end. There's so much going on at this time of the year, you can't help it. And you didn't go fast enough to the urgent care after your cold was there five days. When it started getting worse after five days instead of better, you should have had a red flag should have gone up to say that you know what maybe I have a sinus infection.
• 11:42
Speaker 3: But yeah we also like had to get things done like brand deals and things before you go to Florida. So I felt bad even like being in the same room as you but you always say like
• 11:54
Speaker 4: I don't get it from you.
• 11:56
Speaker 3: Yeah. You can't get sick from your kids or your grandkids which is not I scientifically
• 12:00
Speaker 4: used to with my little ones where I had a 103 I used to be lying in the bed with them. I don't believe you get sick for it with a blood relative. You only get sick from strangers.
• 12:09
Speaker 3: It's definitely not science. But that's Grandma's science. Okay. Well, it was nice that I feel like moms did send me home with some food. And I did try a lot of different soups the last two weeks so I have decided I can pretty much rank all of the matzo ball soups in New York City.
• 12:30
  Speaker 4: Okay number one
• 12:32
Speaker 3: Okay, do you know what Sarge's is?
• 12:35
  Speaker 4: Of course, it's a deli.
• 12:37
Speaker 3: It's a deli and I didn't know what it was but it was on my Uber Eats and so and it was like a fast delivery so I ordered it. Great. I might rank it at number one.
• 12:47
  Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
• 12:48
Speaker 3: Okay. Usually I get Mark's off Madison, but they didn't have it this, like, the month. I don't know why.
• 12:54
Speaker 4: And you know who has very good one, but they're not gonna deliver it to you is PJ Bernstein. Oh, okay. I
• 13:00
  Speaker 3: didn't have that.
• 13:01
Speaker 4: No. Okay. I don't know if they would deliver that far, but maybe on Uber Eats.
• 13:05
  Speaker 3: But they
• 13:05
Speaker 4: have excellent chicken soup with matzo balls in it.
• 13:09
Speaker 3: Okay. Next time. Nectar, the diner, great on
• 13:12
Speaker 4: the whole soup. Will they deliver to you?
• 13:17
Speaker 3: Oh, no. But I was uptown, and I
• 13:18
Speaker 4: Oh, alright. Okay. Okay.
• 13:20
Speaker 3: Oh, no. That would be great if they did.
• 13:22
Speaker 4: But what about the deli that we like downtown?
• 13:25
  Speaker 3: I don't think can deliver. Eisenberg's?
• 13:27
Speaker 4: Oh, right. But don't doesn't Uber Eats pick up at all these places?
• 13:32
Speaker 3: Not all of them. They have to have a partnership.
• 13:35
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 13:35
Speaker 3: I'm actually I don't think it's on there. And then there's this place Spring Bone Kitchen. They don't have mozzarella soup, but they have like all the broths.
• 13:43
  Speaker 4: Oh, good.
• 13:44
Speaker 3: So that was like, you know, it tastes bad, which I feel like means it's good for you. And that's how you
• 13:48
Speaker 4: know it's gonna taste bad. I think your your taste buds when you're sick are are messed up. Probably tastes fine normally.
• 13:55
Speaker 3: No. Because they put, like, garlic and
• 13:58
  Speaker 4: Oh.
• 13:59
Speaker 3: Ginger and all of the things
• 14:00
Speaker 4: that's supposed to make you
• 14:01
  Speaker 3: feel better.
• 14:02
Speaker 4: Bad. Right. You'll feel better, but you have terrible indigestion.
• 14:05
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 14:06
Speaker 4: I would have terrible acid reflux from that soup.
• 14:09
Speaker 3: Right. And then I got a lot of Thai food because they have a lot of soups and curries and it feels
• 14:13
Speaker 4: like Oh, good. And curries are good when you have a cold because it makes you hot and sort of you sweat it
• 14:19
  Speaker 3: sinuses. Yeah.
• 14:20
Speaker 4: But that's gonna be an old wives' tale also.
• 14:23
Speaker 3: Probably. So that was kind of it, and now I feel like I can bounce back to being a normal person.
• 14:30
Speaker 4: Well, think, you know, one thing about it, and I have to say this, kudos to New York, you can always get anything delivered to your apartment, which is so much different than any other place in the I'm sure maybe other big cities have it as well. But we are so lucky. Because even when I was, you know, when I was by myself with your grandfather and during COVID, we got we were the only people in the city that were living in our building, but most of the buildings, and we got deliveries all the time. They were so terrific. Of course, they didn't bring it to your apartment.
• 15:00
They left it downstairs. You have to go down to your lobby. But New York is a wonderful way of that. It's terrific. They're wonderful resources.
• 15:08
Speaker 3: Yeah. And then even though I was sick, I still was able to celebrate mom and dad's thirty fifth anniversary. What was it like for you to see your daughter hit that kind of milestone?
• 15:21
Speaker 4: Well, thought it was a beautiful thing, because mean, not only thirty fifth, but they were together seven years before they got married. So they've really been together forty two years when you think about that. So it was lovely. It was lovely and we had our family, media family together and it was really beautiful. And we had a lovely night, so we went someplace where you could have a whole city to look at and the twinkling lights and the water.
• 15:47
  It was beautiful.
• 15:49
Speaker 3: Did you get them a gift?
• 15:52
Speaker 4: I gave them something, yes. But not just something they could buy whatever they want with.
• 15:57
  Speaker 3: Like a check?
• 15:58
Speaker 4: Yeah. Money is always good.
• 16:01
Speaker 3: You think that's always a good gift?
• 16:02
Speaker 4: Well, think at a certain point in our lives, we really don't need anything. So it's better off letting that person select it themselves because it's too hard. It's like buying me a dinner plate or a vase. I have so many, I don't know what to do with them. It's a beautiful idea and it's always nice to receive a gift.
• 16:25
But I think it's better off, especially with your children, to give them something that they can then go out or spend it on an expensive dinner or do something they want to do together.
• 16:34
Speaker 3: See my mindset would be okay, like you have a bunch of vases or whatever it may be. Right. But it's special to get like Well, that's true. Something that they thought of you when they got it versus, like, just giving you money feels impersonal.
• 16:54
Speaker 4: Well, I think in most cases, you're right. At a certain age, like, what you got me for my birthday last year, the little tiny glass dish with the green little flowers on it that I love. That was from you. I'll always remember it being from you when I have it next to my bed. But by and large, it's very hard to buy people at a of a certain age something that they really need.
• 17:18
They don't nobody needs anything. I'm actually gonna send them caviar. And then I said to myself, you know what? I I let them do their own thing and do whatever they want. Yeah.
• 17:30
But we had a good time. I didn't the food was lovely. Poppy's very busy with that drink, that plain. What does he call it? Paper plain.
• 17:39
Paper plain. That's his new drink. I don't know why he likes that. He's been tasting it. He tasted it down here as well.
• 17:46
It's like he's having a tasting like you're tasting matzo ball soup. He had a paper plane two different times this week. So times? Twice. Twice.
• 17:57
Different places. Different places. One is enough. Even your brother tried it, and he seemed to like it.
• 18:04
Speaker 3: Do you know what's in it?
• 18:06
Speaker 4: Well, know Aperol, and I think some bourbon or something. I don't you know I don't drink, so I have no idea what was in it. It looks pretty. It's sort of an apricot color, and they serve it in a martini glass, so it looks nice.
• 18:17
Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, he's entitled to have a drink.
• 18:20
Speaker 4: He can have whatever he wants. He's a grown man, but I think it's more of a summer drink. I haven't quite figured out why you would order that in the winter. But down here it's summer, so it's alright.
• 18:31
Speaker 3: Yeah. Now he can have it as much as he wants.
• 18:33
Speaker 4: Exactly. He can drink paper planes every night.
• 18:36
Speaker 3: Yeah. I feel like dad asked you guys like, oh, how long have you been married again? And before Poppy could even answer you were like too long.
• 18:43
Speaker 4: Too long. It's a whole lifetime. I don't remember ever not being married. So it doesn't matter. Yeah, but it's, it's fine.
• 18:51
  That's fine.
• 18:51
Speaker 3: I got mom and dad this Starlink thing which is like Elon Musk's new company that like it's a little I don't know how new it is now but it's like a portable I don't think it works off the satellites or in the sky and like it basically gives you Wi Fi like or service wherever you go.
• 19:08
  Speaker 4: Oh, that's terrific.
• 19:09
Speaker 3: You can put it in the car in the Hamptons where there's no service for a
• 19:13
  Speaker 4: Well, that's true.
• 19:13
Speaker 3: So I don't know. But they haven't set it up yet, of course. That'll be a whole issue. They'll probably never set it up.
• 19:19
Speaker 4: Probably. Because nobody it's like my it's like my computer. I'm never gonna be at sitting here now charged. It looks very nice on the desk.
• 19:26
Speaker 3: I'm also going to next week host a mahjong event with my friends. Know, don't know how to play. I've taken, like, one lesson, but I someone's gonna teach all of us,
• 19:36
Speaker 4: and we're gonna bunch
• 19:37
  Speaker 3: girls together.
• 19:38
Speaker 4: It's a lot of fun. Once you start doing it, you gotta play it a couple of times, you get the hang of it.
• 19:44
Speaker 3: I honestly feel like I don't have time to take up another thing, like with work and all the things, but also You
• 19:49
Speaker 4: can do that at night.
• 19:50
Speaker 3: It's fun. It's like in lieu of having dinner or whatever, catching up with somebody.
• 19:56
Speaker 4: Or you have a pizza and then you play with a bunch of girls.
• 19:59
Speaker 3: Right. Exactly. And like it's just a fun thing to like keep a tradition alive and like stay connected with friends besides going out and drinking.
• 20:08
Speaker 4: Well, everybody down here is taking lessons, so you'll you could join in the group. What do you think I played today, and I had one Marjong. We were all but you need jokers. Marjong is most important thing is picking those jokers. But, anyway, it's fun thing.
• 20:21
  I'm glad you're learning.
• 20:22
Speaker 3: But what do you think I should have at the like, what should I set up when everyone comes?
• 20:29
Speaker 4: Well, they're not are they gonna eat dinner or they're just gonna have little odd, like, eat like, I think that your friends can have little sushi. Just little sushi finger food where they can maybe pick it up. Because when you're playing, you don't want people eating when they're playing the tiles, but, you know, when they're touching the tiles because that's nasty.
• 20:45
Speaker 3: So maybe like a cheese board?
• 20:48
Speaker 4: Yeah. Cheese board, like the the apricots. Very similar to what yes. Cheese board is always nice.
• 20:54
  Speaker 3: Yeah. And and
• 20:55
Speaker 4: some fruits, dried fruits with it. Mhmm. Or nuts. But I don't know. Some people have nut allergies, so I'm never sure anymore about that either.
• 21:03
Speaker 3: I'm sure I'll have to FaceTime you when I'm actually setting up
• 21:06
Speaker 4: Oh, you'll do it. You're very good. You're good. But where are you gonna put the table?
• 21:12
Speaker 3: I don't know. Maybe on the 3rd Floor.
• 21:15
Speaker 4: Oh, in the space. Oh,
• 21:17
Speaker 3: yeah. Yeah. Because they said that they could bring a foldable table.
• 21:21
  Speaker 4: Okay. Good.
• 21:22
Speaker 3: So I don't know. I have to figure that out still.
• 21:25
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 21:28
Speaker 3: But otherwise, we can still do some face times while we're apart, and then I'll see you in a few weeks.
• 21:36
Speaker 4: Okay. Isn't it great that? Thanksgiving. I'll be up for Thanksgiving. Well, we thought I was gonna come up next week, but I decided not to do it.
• 21:43
It's so nice here now. But I am coming up a couple of days before Thanksgiving, so we'll be busy.
• 21:50
Speaker 3: Not soon enough. Isn't it crazy that there was no FaceTime like twenty years ago or Zoom or whatever?
• 21:57
Speaker 4: No phones. The phones came You know, they were those big, big, tremendous phones. Nobody will now everybody's walking around with their phones, but that's an that didn't really happen. You know, this is the old conversation. The landline was our means of of talking to each other.
• 22:13
Nobody just carried around their phones.
• 22:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, now it's like a lot easier to stay in touch. But I was, I mean, we're only apart for a few weeks. But most of the time, like, we are in communication, whether we're both in New York or we're in different places. I know that's unique that we'll talk on the phone a few times a day but like our relationship doesn't change when you were there or when no we're in the same but like I think people can definitely realize that within themselves too. Can have a relative that is far away and you could still be really close with them if you do have that kind of ongoing communication that allows for that.
• 22:55
Speaker 4: We've talked about that several times to different groups and people have to make the effort to go on a FaceTime or go on a Zoom call with your children or your relatives or a dear friend that you want to keep in touch with. Don't let it go by too long without doing a face to face. Because what you see sometimes on a face, you can't really discern the same expression just by picking up a phone. You really need to see them.
• 23:20
Speaker 3: Yeah. With FaceTime or or make the phone call if it's easier. It's better than nothing. You leave me lot of voicemails so I kind of know your update from the day. Right.
• 23:30
Also, following following each other on on social media. Like, if your grandkids do have an Instagram and, like, you can kinda see what they're doing if they post
• 23:40
Speaker 4: What they shouldn't be doing. Yeah.
• 23:44
Speaker 3: And then make plans for when you're together next too. Like I feel like I'm gonna come to Florida and there's a lot of things and activities that we're gonna want to do, a lot of content.
• 23:55
Speaker 4: Oh, forgot to tell you, your friend, your golfing friend, got engaged.
• 24:02
Speaker 3: Wait, who's my golfing friend?
• 24:04
Speaker 4: Oh my gosh. Who's the young beautiful girl? Peyton? Peyton got engaged and then she wants to have dinner with you and Zach and her fiance.
• 24:12
Speaker 3: Oh, that's so cute.
• 24:14
Speaker 4: Yeah. You should send her a text. Congrats.
• 24:16
Speaker 3: The crazy thing is okay. Well, yeah, I feel like my first few years of Palm Beach snowboarding, I was was really around golf and like, because of my back issues and everything I don't play now. But it's crazy because like, it wasn't just that I was playing like I was friends with a bunch of people who was in that kind of circle too. So that's kind of sad.
• 24:41
Speaker 4: It was nice. No it's not. You can still be friendly. Just don't play golf. You don't do it on the golf course.
• 24:48
Speaker 3: Yeah. But I do miss being on a golf course. It's so nice.
• 24:51
Speaker 4: Or take a walk.
• 24:52
Speaker 3: Or I can have a drink overlooking the golf course.
• 24:55
Speaker 4: And you could walk on the golf course, take a walk around, see the swans. They'd probably miss you.
• 25:00
Speaker 3: Can you actually do that?
• 25:01
Speaker 4: Yes, late in the afternoon. You take a golf yeah. You could go out. You could just take a club and pretend you're you're swinging. You're gonna putt.
• 25:10
Of course you can. Of course you can.
• 25:12
Speaker 3: Because I feel like sometimes they well, maybe if you're paying. Because, like, it they'll kick you off if you're just
• 25:18
Speaker 4: Oh, I don't think I but on a private club, they won't kick
• 25:21
  Speaker 3: you off.
• 25:21
Speaker 4: Maybe. If not interfering with the play, if you go out, you know, at 03:00 when nobody's And here
• 25:27
Speaker 3: I know that's at our private club, like, at the breakers, sometimes
• 25:30
Speaker 4: Oh, no. That's different. That's timed. Yeah. That's timed.
• 25:34
  Exactly. You have to go
• 25:35
Speaker 3: Like, I've tried to cut through there as part of a nice walk, and they're like, what are you doing on the golf course? Right. And it's a whole thing.
• 25:43
Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, that's a different thing. That I think you're not allowed to do that. But in a lot of golf courses, you know when it's not a busy time you can take one club and just go out and pretend you're even playing or just chipping or whatever. Something to think about.
• 25:58
  It's
• 25:59
Speaker 3: the secret information on the golf course. Okay. Let's move on to the drama club. Kris Jenner had her seventieth birthday the other night. Oh, wow.
• 26:13
  Pictures?
• 26:14
Speaker 4: I didn't see any pictures, but she's so beautiful. Is that
• 26:18
  Speaker 3: I mean, she's just
• 26:19
Speaker 4: redone her entire face so and her body, so she looks fabulous.
• 26:23
Speaker 3: Insane. You I gotta send you a picture. She looks so good. She was wearing this red dress.
• 26:28
Speaker 4: Airbrush. I wonder if they airbrush any of that. But they're getting to the point where how could I don't care how much you fix your your your body. You're still 70 years old. It's pretty long.
• 26:37
  Speaker 3: A mix. I think it's all of the above. Uh-huh.
• 26:40
  Speaker 4: Good for her.
• 26:41
Speaker 3: She threw a James Bond, like, casino kinda party at Jeff Bezos house with like poker chips with their face on it. And there was a lot of celebrities Bruno Mars performed.
• 26:53
  Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
• 26:55
Speaker 3: What do you think? Like 70 feels like compared to 30, 40, 50, 60?
• 27:03
Speaker 4: Well, you're older. You're older. It doesn't feel like anything. You know, it's all a state of mind. Your body is older.
• 27:09
There's no question. No matter what anybody says of 25, a 30, a 50, a 60, a 70, 80, that is seen in the body. You can't help that. Aging is aging. But you can still, at 80 or 90, think you're 25.
• 27:24
If you're young at heart, if you enjoy activities, if you're still interested in the same things, if you love music and you go out and listen to concerts or you listen to go to theater. I mean, no one says just because you hit a certain age, quote, 70, that all of a sudden everything changes. But you do celebrate each time and each phase of your life. I think when you're younger, it's more unsteady, you're just working through life and figuring out things. As you age, you might not look as good when you were 30 as you do at 70 that you did at 30, but you can still think young and still think to do things that you enjoy.
• 28:05
So I do think age is a figment of your imagination. You could create your own beauty no matter what age.
• 28:13
Speaker 3: Mhmm. I totally agree. And like, we're seeing that more and more in the media too. So many brands are hiring older models, different ages, and like giving them opportunities. And it's so fun, especially because that's really what a lot of our content is about.
• 28:28
Speaker 4: The demographic is getting older. I mean, are older people and people are buying. And the older people tend to buy more than younger people because they're financially usually have more ability to do it. So people have to look at that generational thing and say embrace it, which I think is great.
• 28:45
Speaker 3: Do you think though certain decades come with certain expectations? Like, are for building, forties is more stable, and then seventies slowing down, or just the seventies The
• 28:57
Speaker 4: seventies is more about yourself. From 60 on, usually your children are gone, and if you have a partner, you're doing things with your partner. If you don't, you're doing things with your friends, and you have different activities. You certainly can travel more as you get older. You don't have the responsibility of having to be home as much with your children.
• 29:20
However it is, every stage is different and every stage should be looked at in a positive way. There's no bad phase in your life, really. It's just a state of mind.
• 29:31
Speaker 3: Yeah. And Grandma, I can't remember if you told me what your sixtieth or seventieth birthday was. Did you do a big party?
• 29:40
Speaker 4: No. I didn't do any I didn't no. After my sixtieth, I didn't do any more parties. I just do parties with my with my family, and we go away. I think for my seventieth, we went to Greece, didn't we?
• 29:53
No, Yeah. Seventy fifth. Seventy fifth we went to Greece, and then I took my other child and his children to Alaska on a cruise. So you do all different things, and it's fun to do things that you wanna do. If you wanna have a party, you do a party.
• 30:13
To me, I, you know, I I really love to go with my family places.
• 30:18
Speaker 3: So do you suggest doing something substantial for, like, a milestone birthday or special?
• 30:23
Speaker 4: Mean You should do something to market. I mean, it all depends on what you want to spend and what you want to do. I think you have to do things within your budget. I really believe you should always remember how much you can afford. If you can't afford it, don't do that.
• 30:38
Do something, a special dinner that even if you make at home, have somebody do one thing, have a potluck thing and make a big cake. I mean, you can all do all kinds of things. Everything has to be thought about what you're comfortable with. If comfortable going out and going on a trip or with your children, then do it. If you're not able to do that, go to a restaurant that you wouldn't normally go to in your neighborhood that might be a little different, and you put the you put a cake out with candles.
• 31:12
It's just it's just about celebrating the event. It's not about how you're celebrating the event. Oh, I like that. I really like that. I should coin that.
• 31:23
Speaker 3: Yeah. My thirtieth is only in a few months, so I guess that's a milestone birthday. I'll have to think about the plan. I have not thought about it weirdly. I feel like in the last few years, I would be like for my thirtieth, but then now that it's actually coming up.
• 31:38
Speaker 4: Well that's what happens. You'll figure it out.
• 31:41
Speaker 3: Right. The other thing is, remember the story Eloise Of course,
• 31:46
  Speaker 4: Eloise. Yes.
• 31:47
Speaker 3: They're doing like a live action movie of it.
• 31:51
  Speaker 4: That's cute.
• 31:52
Speaker 3: I know. Or actually, I don't know if it's a movie or yeah. Think it's a movie. And I think the books were written in, like, the fifties. Right?
• 32:00
Speaker 4: Yeah. The I don't It was very it was so pretty. I used to love it because we used to go to the plaza all the time. We used to have a a lunch at Palm Court. And she was like she lived at the plaza.
• 32:11
Then she it was such a New York was such a New York story, but yet it's a sweet story for any little girl. It's an adorable story. So that's nice.
• 32:20
Speaker 3: I loved it And I feel that I relate to Eloise at the Plaza. I would love to have been that little girl. And Amy Sherman Palladino is like behind it who did like Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Gilmore Girls and a lot of shows like that. And then Ryan Reynolds is
• 32:39
Speaker 4: co starring. Oh, I love him. Okay.
• 32:42
Speaker 3: So I think it'll be really good. Very cute.
• 32:45
Speaker 4: And I like something that's good for the family. That's a nice that's a nice story.
• 32:51
Speaker 3: I like childhood nostalgia. I mean, we've had, like, Barbie movie and Lilo and Stitch and all the Disney movies coming back, but it's really in right now just to, like, go down memory lane with all of these.
• 33:04
Speaker 4: People wanna people wanna have a laugh and a smile. Everybody doesn't wanna nobody wants to be stressed.
• 33:10
Speaker 3: Okay. Let's move on to the rewind. Did you watch Nobody Wants This?
• 33:19
Speaker 4: Yes. I did watch it. And I have to honestly say I love them. I mean, I love them. My favorite is the his real wife the the star's She real she's she's so beautiful.
• 33:33
She cracked me up. But I love him. I'm in love with him. I love the brother. I love that brother.
• 33:40
That brother's gonna end up with that sister, I'm telling you, on the third season. You know what? I liked it. It was very what I didn't was sad about it, it wasn't that much with the mother. She really wasn't in it this time, and I was wondering why.
• 33:55
I think maybe people don't like it. I thought it was fun, but maybe they felt Do maybe it wasn't
• 34:01
Speaker 3: relate to the mother? No.
• 34:06
Speaker 4: I do relate to the mother. I feel
• 34:09
Speaker 3: that you are very similar.
• 34:11
Speaker 4: But I did not That is tough. I didn't have those same situation that this mother is confronting. She and I happen to have loved well, I love my son-in-law, so I never had an issue with that. And and my daughter-in-law is a doll. But the truth is it's funny.
• 34:29
It's funny. It's cute. You knew they were gonna I'm not gonna give it away because people are probably still watching it. It's very it's an enjoyable Netflix moment.
• 34:39
Speaker 3: I think it is definitely binge worthy.
• 34:43
Speaker 4: Like Yeah. I binged it all.
• 34:45
Speaker 3: I've been watching all in twenty four hours.
• 34:48
  Speaker 4: Me too.
• 34:48
Speaker 3: And I think that's, you know, a hard thing to do. For I'm saying to make a show like that people want to watch it all. And you know, it's short episodes and but there's good chemistry.
• 35:00
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 35:00
Speaker 3: I like that it's like a podcast set up because we relate to that too. I don't know if the writing was as strong as season one.
• 35:09
Speaker 4: I agree. I don't think it was. And it was very predictable.
• 35:13
Speaker 3: Yeah. I think it was a I was not surprised in a lot of the, plot points. And I don't know if they, didn't have as much Aaron Foster in there or what was going on. But yeah. I don't know.
• 35:26
I felt like more into season one for some reason.
• 35:29
Speaker 4: But meanwhile, I'm looking forward to season three.
• 35:31
Speaker 3: Me too. I know. I can't wait. Like, need it tomorrow.
• 35:35
  Speaker 4: Exactly. And
• 35:37
Speaker 3: the other show I'm watching is All's Fair, which is the Kim Kardashian one. You know how she's acting in a TV show?
• 35:42
Speaker 4: Oh, I have no. You know, she failed her bar exam. Exam.
• 35:45
  Speaker 3: I saw.
• 35:46
  Speaker 4: Oh my god.
• 35:47
Speaker 3: But also, she has so many things going on and
• 35:50
Speaker 4: she's No, so she needed a tutor. Come on, give me a break. This is well, she's gonna try again. This isn't the No
• 35:57
Speaker 3: way. She's gonna keep trying.
• 35:59
  Speaker 4: Right. Exactly.
• 36:00
  Speaker 3: It's just
• 36:01
Speaker 4: No. Didn't watch the show. I'm not watching the show. It's enough with Kardashians. I can't watch them too much.
• 36:08
Speaker 3: It's people are not giving it good reviews. Oh, really? He plays a lawyer in the show.
• 36:15
Speaker 4: Oh, maybe that's what made her try to go to law school.
• 36:18
Speaker 3: No, law school came first. And then Ryan Murphy kind of did the show around her. But it has really good actresses in it. Glenn Close, like all these people and then
• 36:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, but it shows you that writing is very important. The writing is the whole thing. If you don't have a good script, it could be the best things in the world. It's not going to be enjoyable.
• 36:38
Speaker 3: I think that's possible. I honestly think it's it's kind of like, you know, trashy TV a little bit, but I I would
• 36:45
Speaker 4: You'll love that. I like that. Trashy TV is exactly what you love.
• 36:49
Speaker 3: Right. Like, I see no issues. So I would rate it higher than a zero on Rotten Tomatoes, which is the rumor that's Oh, really?
• 36:57
  Speaker 4: Oh, that's it.
• 36:58
  Speaker 3: I think that's what I got. But I don't know if that's actually true.
• 37:01
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 37:03
Speaker 3: Okay, let's do a quick should we bring it back game? Theme is Florida, things that I did as kids visiting Palm Beach. Driving to Disney World, should we bring that back? I love going to Disney.
• 37:26
Speaker 4: Yeah. But I think you could take the train now. You could take the the fast train and it it's you're there and you don't have the traffic on I 95. But you certainly should go to Disney. All the little kids are still going to Disney World.
• 37:41
Speaker 3: I agree. Take the Bright Line to Orlando much easier. Going to like Sloan's after dinner, which is something we did a lot. It's in West Palm. It used to be at City Place, but now they call it Rosemary Square.
• 37:55
Speaker 4: Square. Well, if you have little kids, it's a fun activity, and you should walk around Rosemary Square. You know, it depends on the age. There's also a new ice cream store, but I'm not sure it's open at night. So Sloan's might be the well, Sprinkles is open at night, but I like Sloan's ice cream better.
• 38:11
  Speaker 3: Me too.
• 38:12
Speaker 4: It's hard to say there's a gourmet one now that's owned by Renato's, which is in a little alley off of Worth Avenue, and it looks lovely. I saw it today. I'm not sure it's open at night, though, so you have to check. But, yeah, a slot should stay open. It's it's pretty.
• 38:30
It's fun for the kids. And they have cute little way they they display everything as adorable.
• 38:35
Speaker 3: I'm forgetting the name of that ice cream shop that you are mentioning, I've definitely seen people go after dinner and get it.
• 38:42
Speaker 4: Oh, you have? Okay. And I bet that's very good quality.
• 38:45
Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay. I also always used to get, like, virgin pina coladas at the Breakers. Should we bring it back? Absolutely.
• 38:53
  Had one in a while.
• 38:54
Speaker 4: It's so delicious. Absolute I just think the Breakers is is a mess right now, but definitely by Christmas time, you can bring back a pina palata. Right now, it's a construction site.
• 39:05
Speaker 3: We also sometimes would go to bingo night and stuff in the hotel, but I don't know if they have that still.
• 39:10
Speaker 4: I don't know, Kim. I'm sure they do over Christmas. Because don't forget, they did they they really dedicate their activities to to families and children. So I'm sure that they will have one of those. And I know that I'm sure what about your trivia game that you love?
• 39:23
Speaker 3: At the Colony. But I feel like we're not bring like, that's already back. Like, I don't wanna bring
• 39:27
Speaker 4: that That never left.
• 39:28
Speaker 3: That never left. Okay. Let's do a quick ask grandma anything. You guys wrote questions in on Instagram. So remember to keep your eye out for those Instagram stories if you want your questions answered on the podcast.

Speaker 3: First one, will grandma Gail and Kim see wicked for good in theaters? Yes. I already bought my tickets.
• 40:47
Speaker 4: Okay. Alright. Well, I'm not buying my ticket because I'm gonna wait for it to come on television.
• 40:53
Speaker 3: You don't like going to the theatres as much as I do?
• 40:55
Speaker 4: No. I used to love it, but I don't really like it anymore.
• 40:58
Speaker 3: I'm excited. I'm gonna go in New York Thanksgiving weekend.
• 41:02
Speaker 4: Well, I think you need to see it on a big screen, actually.
• 41:05
Speaker 3: For sure. That is a movie. It's like a huge movie.
• 41:08
Speaker 4: Yeah. I think I might have to really succumb and go see it.
• 41:11
Speaker 3: Also, just to be part of the pop culture conversation. Like, I'm not gonna wait until it's.
• 41:16
  Speaker 4: I could wait, but I but I think you're right.
• 41:20
Speaker 3: Okay. Somebody said, how do you make good friends? I try to be nice, but end up getting brushed off.
• 41:28
Speaker 4: Oh, well, that's I don't know why you would if you if somebody is a good friend, they would never brush you off. So if you're a genuine person and truly give of yourself, hopefully, you're picking the right kind of person who will be the same kind of friend back. Sometimes it's not so much it's a selection of who you're picking as your friend.
• 41:48
Speaker 3: Yep. You know what it is too? Like, it's not that easy. Like, if you're trying to make new friends New friends.
• 41:55
Speaker 4: You have to And
• 41:56
Speaker 3: And these people like not I've spoken to people before where they're like, yeah, I don't wanna make new friends. Like I have my friends. Like, why would I basically open up to new people? You're gonna I agree.
• 42:11
Speaker 4: Friends. I mean, it's one thing. I wouldn't run around saying, please be my friend. Please be my friend. If you happen to be somewhere and some you know, you get introduced to somebody who are over either a Marjane game or a class that you're attending or an art class you're doing, why not?
• 42:29
Broaden your horizons. Every person you bring into your life expands your thinking, and I think that's very important. It doesn't have to be a best friend, but it could be somebody who still stimulates you into thinking.
• 42:43
Speaker 3: Yeah. I also think that like it's making new friends is very similar to dating where you don't want to come off super desperate in the beginning and say, are you free every day because this is someone you just met but you want to put your best foot forward and you want it also to be consistent and to have momentum like if you went on one date with someone and then they're seeing other people and three months later you pop back in like you kinda it's not gonna work that way like I feel that you need to be consistent enough to if you I don't know find out about a cool fun activity text them and ask if they want to go with you and then the next maybe two weeks later you're asking them if they want to get dinner whatever it is.
• 43:29
Speaker 4: And ask them if they come back and also ask you. If it's a one way street, I think that's not really the the grounds for a friendship. I think it go both ways.
• 43:39
Speaker 3: Sure. Yeah. I mean, I after two or three times, if it's only one person Right. That is not a mutual friendship.
• 43:46
Speaker 4: Gonna happen. It's really not gonna happen.
• 43:49
Speaker 3: Okay. What are some cute black flat shoes that won't make me look like an old lady? I like the Sam Edelman ones.
• 43:58
Speaker 4: You know what shoe I think is the pretty issue but it won't make you look like an old lady? And I would suggest that you were gonna buy it, is that LaRudy. It's the fur line little flap with the the the strap over the front that she just came out with. I saw it on you should really get that in black.
• 44:15
Speaker 3: So cute. Take a look. But like, yeah, Jane or like Mary
• 44:19
  Speaker 4: Janes are great.
• 44:20
Speaker 3: Playing with a maybe like doing a square or a pointy toe rather than a round toe or something that has a little bit more texture like maybe we're going suede or crocodile or whatever instead of just plain black leather with a bow on it. Okay. Okay. What does every grandmother want from her children and grandchildren?
• 44:44
Speaker 4: I think love returned. I think all grandparents want is for their children to be happy, their grandchildren to be happy, and to come back and give them a kiss and say, You're included in my life. I think that's very important. They need to know that they're wanted and they're treasured, and not old hat and you're throwing out their advice without thinking about it, because they do have experience. So I think it's a mutual give and take and being really about caring for each other and worrying about each other.
• 45:20
  That's really what everybody wants.
• 45:24
Speaker 3: That's nice. I feel like that's a great way to end. I had a few more, but it's getting dark here on the East Coast or in the Northeast.
