- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The seven holy brothers and saints Rufina and Secunda. July 10 in the year of our Lord, 2026.
- 0:23A note from Dom Gaspar Lefevre. The church celebrating today the triumph of the seven sons of Saint Felicitas who are murdered under their mother's eyes praises this courageous woman who by exhorting them to die was herself victorious in all of them.
- 0:46She extended her maternity to the souls of her children by making them accomplish the will of God. They died in the year of our Lord 01/1950 under the emperor Antoninus. A century later, Rufina and Secunda, sisters by birth, became doubly so by mixing their blood at the same execution rather than lose the virginity they had consecrated to Jesus, their spouse. They were martyred at Rome under the Emperors Valerian and Gallienus.
- 1:29In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy ghost. Amen.
- 1:37The introit. Praise the lord, you children. Praise the name of the lord. He establishes in her home the barren wife as the joyful mother of children.
- 1:51Blessed be the name of the Lord from this day to all eternity. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be, through all ages of ages. Amen. Praise the Lord, you children. Praise the name of the Lord.
- 2:18He establishes in her home the barren wife as the joyful mother of children. The Collect, let us pray. Grant we beseech you Almighty God that we who know how courageously your holy martyrs have confessed the faith may experience their goodness as they intercede for us with you through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the book of Proverbs.
- 3:07A man who has found a valiant wife has found a rare treasure brought from distant shores bound to her and loving confidence. He will have no need of spoil. Content not sorrow, she will bring him as long as life lasts. Does she not busy herself with wool and thread, plying her hands with ready skill? Ever she steers her course like some merchant ship bringing provision from far away.
- 3:43From early dawn she is up assigning food to the household so that each waiting woman has her share. Ground must be examined and bought and planted out as a vineyard with the earnings of her toil. How briskly she girds herself to the task. How tireless are her arms. Industry she knows is well rewarded and all night long her lamp does not go out.
- 4:16Jealously she sets her hands to work. Her fingers clutch the spindle. Kindly is her welcome to the poor. Her purse ever open to those in need. Let the snow lie cold if it will.
- 4:33She has no fears for her household. No servant of hers but is warmly clad. Made by her own hands was the coverlet on her bed. The clothes of lawn and purple that she wears. None so honored at the city gate as that husband of hers when he sits in council with the elders of the land.
- 4:59Often she will sell linen of her own weaving or make a girdle for the traveling merchant to buy. Protected by her own industry and good repute she greets the morrow with a smile. Ripe wisdom governs her speech but it is kindly instruction she gives. She keeps watch over all that goes on in her house not content to go through life eating and sleeping. That is why her children are the first to call her blessed.
- 5:36Her husband is loud in her praise. Unrivaled art thou among all women that have enriched their homes. Vain are the winning ways. Beauty is a snare. It is the woman who fears the Lord that will achieve renown.
- 5:57Work such as hers claims its reward. Let her life be spoken of with praise at the city gates. The gradual. Our lives were saved like a sparrow that escapes from the fowler's snare. The snare is broken now and we are safe.
- 6:22We found help in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth. Alleluia. Alleluia. Here was true brotherliness that triumphed over the reproach of earth and followed Christ to reach the glories of a heavenly kingdom. Alleluia.
- 6:48A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew. At that time, while Jesus was still speaking to the multitude, it chanced that his mother and his brethren were standing without desiring speech with him. And someone told him, here are thy mother and thy brethren standing without looking for thee. But he made answer to the man that brought him the news. Who is a mother?
- 7:21Who are brethren to me? Then he stretched out his hand towards his disciples and said, here are my mother and my brethren. If anyone does the will of my father who is in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother. The offertory. Our soul hath been delivered as a sparrow out of the snare of the fowlers.
- 7:53The snare is broken and we are delivered. The secret. Look with favor we beseech you, O Lord, upon the offerings here before you that through the intercession of your saints they may be beneficial for our devotion and salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface.
- 8:37Just it is indeed and fitting right in for our salvation that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
- 9:34Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Whoever does the will of my father in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother says the Lord. The post communion. Let us pray.
- 10:00Grant we beseech you almighty God that by the intercession of your saints, we may obtain the effect of that salvation pledged to us through this sacred rite, through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy ghost. Amen. Saint Felicitas and her seven sons, pray for us.
- 10:45Saint Rufina, pray for us. Saint Secunda, pray for us.
