- 0:20Four finger discount dude, Welcome to four figure Discount, the podcast where we
- 0:41all have meltmania. This week we are Hitter review episode jb F zero nine.
- 0:46It is million dollars ab I am edo, I am guy and hmm,
- 0:51what to say about this episode? Well, I was trying to be
- 0:54enthusiastic because no, this episode was morbid and sad and depressing. I watched
- 1:00this episode and I watched it twice, as I usually do. The first
- 1:03time I watched it, I was like, yeah, Grandpa episode, it's
- 1:06a story, blah blah blah. And I rewatched it and I was like,
- 1:08doesn't really make a whole lot of sense the story and the topic that
- 1:11you've got. You haven't really handed it very well. You know, the
- 1:15issue of euthanasia should mean more than just be sort of like a subplot for
- 1:21what eventually becomes Grandpa becoming mad at all. This is so weird and sad
- 1:26and depressing, and I've got here. Grandpa tries to kill himself because nobody
- 1:32apparently loves him. Right then we see him kill or when it seemed,
- 1:36but he kills the ball. When that happened, I was like, wait,
- 1:40he actually killed the bull. I could not believe it. I was
- 1:44like, what, Yeah. I think we've been trained by particular TV shows
- 1:52and movies or whatever. When you have a moment like that and someone goes,
- 1:55oh, yeah, makes the big stamp thinking about it, does the
- 2:00does the shot or whatever, it's usually like I could have killed you,
- 2:02but it didn't, you know, because I'm the better man, or because
- 2:05I've learned the lesson or something. I was like, Oh, no,
- 2:08actually happened. Kill that killed that ball? M Yeah. Tackling topics like
- 2:14euthan asia or a sister dying or and animal cruelty, I mean, and
- 2:19blood sports and things like, it's like, I think you need to think
- 2:22it through a lot more and I think you need to handle a lot more
- 2:25sensitively than you did in this particular episode. I keep going back when I
- 2:31think of when I think a Grandpa Simpson, when I think of Abe Simpson
- 2:36an episode sort of arounding him. I mean, the one that always leaves
- 2:39to mind is no, we've talked about the last and I keep remember getting
- 2:44the actual tie of the episode, the one that ends with him getting the
- 2:46inheritance and refurbishing the Springfield retirement Castle, so it's a decent place for elderly
- 2:53people to see out their days and live there last years with that great final
- 2:55line of bad dignities on me And I mean, that's a sad episode,
- 3:00but it's also quite touching and it touches on some important issues, but it
- 3:04also has its share of gags in there as well. It shows that it's
- 3:07not impossible for a series like this to handle issues like those very very well,
- 3:14and this episode sort of does in the opposite of that. It's just
- 3:16not good at all. It's just what's disappointing for me is that it is
- 3:21such a serious issue that could have been if it was handled correctly, explored
- 3:23properly, it wouldn't have felt so annoying. But it's just this this topic
- 3:29of yourthanations sort of part of this mess of an episode, Like, for
- 3:31example, had the law not changed just before Grandpa was about to die,
- 3:37Grandpa literally would have been dead and the family wouldn't have even known or cared.
- 3:44And then we're supposed to believe the Lisa story, which she's like,
- 3:46I've always believed in your grandpa, And I'm like, well, where were
- 3:49you when he fucking needed you? Yeah. I was about to say this
- 3:51is meant to be a touching moment and like, I've never really felt that
- 3:57strongly connection between these two characters, though, don't expect me going to buy
- 4:00in now. So I'm like, what I do is I'll watch these episodes
- 4:03and I go set aside thirty seconds hit that time and try to come up
- 4:08with a better story. I'm not saying this is better. This is all
- 4:10I come up with, right, this is my thirty second thing. If
- 4:13you just put us like thirty seconds, guys and fucking think about it,
- 4:15you could have gotten something out of it. So I've just got you could
- 4:18have had Lisa go to visit him, right, because she sees that everyone's
- 4:20bad down on Grandpa. Could have heard Homer in Marge say something bad about
- 4:24him, and she goes, oh, he probably needs somebody. She goes
- 4:27to visit him, he's not there. She finds the card for the euth
- 4:30and Asia place on this desk. She races to stop him, she stops
- 4:32him, and then we get sort of like a healthish episode where it's like
- 4:35Bart and Grandpa working together, but it's Lisa and Grandpa working together to solve
- 4:39something right. That could be a nice story. Instead it's like no one
- 4:43loved him, no one visited him, no one called him, so he
- 4:46tried to kill himself. Any reason he didn't die is because the law changed.
- 4:49And then he goes to see them and that it's like, what are
- 4:51you doing here? What I don't know? And then later on the episode
- 4:56was supposed to believe that, Lisa's like, I've always believed in you.
- 4:59Now you're not helping me, and I'm like, you weren't there for him.
- 5:02That was the whole reason he wanted to die. You've nailed it,
- 5:06you really. I mean, this is just shodly constructed all the way through.
- 5:13I mean even by the first half, before any of the assistance who
- 5:16was or or mattad or stuff comes into it, it's kind of like just
- 5:21just tonally and in terms of the jokes and the characterizations all that, there's
- 5:27two there's two jokes in this episode and can I just point them out?
- 5:30First, one having to tell your relative that you love them despite the fact
- 5:33that they're gay. That's apparently a joke. And then the other joke is
- 5:38ha ha, Lenny, you've got down syndrome. Ha ha. Why wait,
- 5:42so the joke is that Lenny has down syndrome. That's that's your joke.
- 5:46Well, he's missunder yeah, I mean he's caught up in meltdown mania
- 5:50clearly, and you know he and Lenny, he and Carl, you know,
- 5:54doing their tag team thing like I've got melt mania, I've got down
- 5:57syndrome. I was like, oh, wait a minute, I should have
- 5:59thought that, yeah, even him just saying oh I realized I just said,
- 6:03oh you know him sorry yeah, or just yeah. Season seventeen syentims
- 6:09would have said, oh, I should have thought that through, or just
- 6:13or just don't do it or just don't do it. Well, that's the
- 6:15other thing. It's also not not that funny. Let's go. It adds
- 6:19nothing to this episode. Like, I don't know, just I feel like
- 6:23having having down syndrome be any form of a punchline in any way, whether
- 6:27it's putting down people, dancing down or not. I don't know. Maybe
- 6:30I'm specting. Obviously I don't have it, but I've got relatives who have,
- 6:32and I just watched that, going, does that really need to be
- 6:34a joke in a Symptons episode? I don't know. Maybe I'm just touchy
- 6:38about it, but I just I was. I watched that and went,
- 6:41I don't know about that one. I don't know about that one. Mister
- 6:43Tim Long not a huge fan. Yeah, look, I didn't like it,
- 6:46but I can understand how you could sort of make it work. So
- 6:49it's a joke on Lenny, if you know what I mean. But if
- 6:54people just say, for example, there's an eight year old out there watching
- 6:58this episode and they see that, what would the eight year old think?
- 7:01That's a good point. This is a fucking kids show. Kids kids don't
- 7:04think that literally about the jokes. I know it's jokes for adults as well,
- 7:09but the jokes that are distasteful in that sense shouldn't require you to have
- 7:13to think about to understand it, because kids can't do that. So a
- 7:15kid watching this who has Down syndrome would would feel bad watching this? Well,
- 7:20yeah, I mean they would may well pick up that they feel like
- 7:24they're the butt of the joke, which exactly, Yeah, so keep the
- 7:27joke, keep the layer jokes the things that aren't going to be seeing or
- 7:30could potentially upset the younger viewers. Maybe I'm just being touchy about it.
- 7:34I don't know, but I just joke annoyed me. I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 7:38give Tim Long and the Writer's room in the benefit of the doubt in this
- 7:41regard. But at the same time, I think it was poorly executed.
- 7:43I don't I don't think it was bad in in concept. I think it
- 7:47was poorly executed. But then I don't know if I can forgive Tim Long
- 7:53on the writers room for a lot of stuff in this episode, because it
- 7:55just felt like an autopilot, or to use modern analogy, it felt ai
- 8:00It's like, this is this is what would happen in a Simpsons episode,
- 8:03this is what these particular characters would say. Let's feed all the scripts in
- 8:07and see what it spits out in this particular scenario. And yeah, it
- 8:13just felt I hate to keep going back over the same, you know,
- 8:18the same things when we talk about season seventeen, But I mean, it
- 8:22felt like it lacked heart and instead was just being a real sort of wise
- 8:28guy or a real wise ass in terms of its jokes. It's like,
- 8:31yeah, it's like it's yeah, like you're funny made whose jokes are just
- 8:37really the expense of everybody else. Hey, that's me. But well,
- 8:43for example, we'll bring up South Park right. When they take on issues
- 8:45like euthan Asian and things like that, you can usually get a sense of
- 8:48what Trayer might really think about the issue. But they do a really good
- 8:52way of showing it from both perspectives as well, making both showing the pros
- 8:56and kinds of both sides of the argument. Well, in this one here
- 8:58you come out of it and you're like, so, what do the Simpsons
- 9:01right to think about euthanasia? Or did you just think it would just be
- 9:03a funny thing to just talk about if it's for ten minutes in a twenty
- 9:05minute episode, you know, yeah, Or it's a way to get it's
- 9:09a way to lead to Grandpa becoming a matter matter door. Yeah, it's
- 9:11like, what are the circumstances would yeah, that would make Grandpa Simpson get
- 9:16into a ring with a bull. He's got a new lease on life?
- 9:20Why is he got a new lease on life? Because he tried to kill
- 9:22him. Why did you try to kill himself? Because this happen, we
- 9:24need we need one single solitary person to be the bullfighter. I'll be the
- 9:28matta door. Grandpa will do it. And it's like what what what?
- 9:31Yeah, I'm pretty sure that if you went to a bullfight in Spain or
- 9:35Mexico or wherever, there's usually wall more than one bullfight per day, so
- 9:39usually one more than more than one matter do all the day. I don't
- 9:41know, never been to a bullfight. Is there's just one fight per day
- 9:43or all these towns that people go for one fight and then it's over and
- 9:46then because it lasts like thirty seconds. And the other argument is and you
- 9:50can hide behind the whole while they're springfield and they're dumb. Right, that's
- 9:52fine, you're going to hide behind that lazy argument. Go for it.
- 9:54But why did they build the stadium before they had it signed off? Why
- 9:58was the stadium built before the commissioners signed to the contract. I think they
- 10:01might have actual precedence in real life. I don't think you would pump millions
- 10:09of taxpayers money into a stadium if you hadn't had a contract signed saying that
- 10:16it's going to be used. Look, I'm probably completely wrong here, but
- 10:18doesn't get the feeling that there have been certain Yeah, they have a course,
- 10:22of course, taken a few steps forward and exaggerated for comic effect in
- 10:26this game. But anyway, that's neither here nor there. The whole thing
- 10:28also about really sinking the boots into Springfield. I mean that whole Springfield Blows
- 10:33song. I don't know, I don't know. I didn't even know what
- 10:37to make of that. My argument to that, right thing is so as
- 10:41company goes, it's come down to La and Springfield, because Ala sent in
- 10:45this really great video, right, And the whole point of ALA's video is
- 10:50don't choose Springfield, choose us. But how do they know it's going to
- 10:52come down to those two while start making the video? The whole video was
- 10:56the reason it got down to those two. Good A good nitpick there.
- 11:01The whole point you chose Ala and spring was like Ala said this great video
- 11:05and check it out, and the video is about how it's down to those
- 11:07two. But how did Ala know it was down to those two? Yeah,
- 11:11I mean, I know You've got to have a throwaway line in there
- 11:13somewhere about la having a spy in the office or something. I don't know,
- 11:16but and I'm just I've just gotten my notes. You compare this song
- 11:20right to getting game with kids, like the South Park songs, you know,
- 11:28compared to what this is. I was like this, like and Simpsons
- 11:31songs are usually pretty good, usually pretty catchy. Yeah, and the Simpson
- 11:33songs are like, they're usually awesome, but this one, I'm just like,
- 11:37this went on and on and fucking on. It just went on.
- 11:43Yeah. So just um, a lot of things just wrong with this episode.
- 11:52I mean from the side show Mel camera, they're bad to begin with,
- 11:56but then this is the thing. They've got a checklist now for season
- 11:58seventeen. It's homophobic joke, Sacho Mel says something loud. That's every episode,
- 12:03every episode. But even then it's like and he's like, oh,
- 12:07Sacho Mel speaks like this, so he must be kind of raday. It's
- 12:09an elegant or whatever. It's like, isn't your mother a common hoole?
- 12:11It's like, whoa, I feel myself feeling like a broken record here in
- 12:18terms of like this is a bit like family guy, Oh, you've taken
- 12:20that out of the seth McFarland playbook. Now, you know, all do
- 12:24you respect to Seth McFarland, who's you know, managed to create a little
- 12:28comedy empire out of his particular brand of whimsy. But also he's the worst
- 12:33fucking thing that's happened to when animation and a lot of it, but he
- 12:37made it. He made a thing. Like what he did was he goes,
- 12:39all right, what's the most popular show animated show at the time?
- 12:41It was South Park, but also Simpsons. Right, everyone was talking about
- 12:45the Simpsons. All right, if we're going to compete with the Simpsons,
- 12:48we need to be the opposite of the Simpsons. So they did what south
- 12:50Park. They did what Simpsons weren't doing. But then they sort of getting
- 12:54They started gaining some some um steam and gaining some traction, and Simpsons were
- 12:58like, oh, maybe we need to be more like them. It's like
- 13:00no, no, no, no, no, no, stay not learn.
- 13:03But they're the old they're the alternative. Keep doing what you're doing,
- 13:07don't take the exit, keeps stay on the highway. So yeah, I
- 13:13mean between that kind of sideshow mel joke or yeah, the angry textan who
- 13:18quite frankly, he's starting to reach sideshow mel levels of wearing out his welcome.
- 13:22What else is in there that sucks? I don't know, pretty much
- 13:24everything just a very frustrating, disappointing, piss poor kind of episode. Million
- 13:33dollars abe. As far as I'm concerned, I didn't mind the youth and
- 13:37Asia story. I was like, this is a topic that I've never seen
- 13:39a Simpsons take on before. But that's just the way. It just became
- 13:41such a throwaway part of the story by the end of it. The youth
- 13:46and Asia wasn't even discussed, just like like, oh, you know,
- 13:48he's got a new lease on life and he's gonna live life to his force,
- 13:50so he's gonna be a mad at or it's like, but is he
- 13:54doing itally he's got a new lease on life? Or was he doing it
- 13:54because he doesn't care about life anymore. He just wants to die and being
- 13:58mat like, what's what's the what's your story here? It's just what is
- 14:01your story? Does you want to live or not want to live? Yeah,
- 14:05explain that. You know, I've got a new lease of laugh,
- 14:07so I'm going to do all the things I never did, or you know,
- 14:09I'm starting to feel depressing it I need to risk death to feel life
- 14:15again. So he starts doing more and more risky shit, and this is
- 14:16the apex of that. It's like I'm getting getting in the ring with a
- 14:20bull, even though an old man who probably has got shit reflexes and came
- 14:24over. That could have been like part of a montage or something, just
- 14:28something throw away and jumping down a plane or whatever. Yeah, or if
- 14:33we're gonna do like a euthanasia episode, this may feel a bit like cheating.
- 14:37But have someone else from the retirement castle feel like, oh, I
- 14:41don't want to live anymore. I've heard about this guy you know who brought
- 14:43in the card, wasn't Jasper? Old Jewish guy. Old Jewish guy,
- 14:48have that character who's not unfamiliar to the viewers of the shows. And I've
- 14:54had enough of this, you know, I mean, give them a little
- 14:56bit of a side. Plus, I don't have any relatives life, I
- 15:00get it. Why am I even here? And have them explore the idea
- 15:03of like it's time for me to check out, and it gets Grandpa thinking
- 15:07about it to some degree, or Grandpa says, no, there's more to
- 15:11it than this. You can you can. Let's let's let's do a piss
- 15:15take on the bucket list. Grandpa could walk in and find the card or
- 15:18something and Grandpa's whan it stops and then he get Grandpa helping your Jewish guide
- 15:20go and do things that he wants to take off his bucket list. You
- 15:22know what I mean? Yeah, I mean I think this episode. Okay,
- 15:26when when did the bucket List come out? I think this episode predates
- 15:28the bucket List? But we're two dozen six shook the bucket list. I
- 15:33think bucket list is like twenty tens or something. Oh that like, okay,
- 15:35let's have a look the bucke List two thousand and seven. Oh okay,
- 15:39yeah, so it wasn't far off far off. The script, the
- 15:43script for the buckle lists were probably circulating around Hollywood at that stage. You
- 15:46could have ripped it off. Hey, hey, hey, the bucket List
- 15:50directed by Simpsons episode guest are Rob Ryner. What the hell? Man?
- 15:54Yeah, he knew about it, he knew, he knew, and he
- 16:00let it happen. Fuck you, Rob Wrider. Oh man. But this
- 16:04is the thing, right, this is the thing. Like I said,
- 16:07I sweared anything. I set the thirty second timer, and I came up
- 16:11with something that is phar more logical, and more enjoyable, and what leaves
- 16:15you feeling like shit than what was delivered here. I just don't understand how
- 16:19what was so important about Grandpa being a matter or did you just see the
- 16:22design of the character and go that's going to be so funny. I just
- 16:26don't understand. And Lisa's at the front and at the end when all the
- 16:29bulls run out and Lisa's goes Grandpama rust set them free? Like, what
- 16:33made you come to that conclusion? Why would you think Grandpa was the one
- 16:36to set them free? Grandpa was the one that was killing them before.
- 16:40What is happening? What is happening? Indeed my favorite? Did you have
- 16:48any favorite moments from this episode, mister Davis? Okay, shocker, I
- 16:52had a few another originally really relate to the episode. I just think it's
- 16:56very important though, that we we criticize things when they need to be criticize,
- 17:00but also we'll highlight, we'll find positives as well, but when something
- 17:03doesn't make sense, it will be pointed out because it's just ridiculous that,
- 17:07yeah, when something is off key, yeah you're gonna let them know.
- 17:11Because I'm passionate about the Simpsons. You know, I grew up the Simpsons.
- 17:14I love the Simpson I want the Simpsons to be the best. I
- 17:15want the episodes that we reviewed to be enjoyable. But when you're delivering this
- 17:19stuff, it's like, no, what are you doing? Okays? Yeah,
- 17:23I love the Simpsons. I want them to be better. That's why
- 17:26I get so angry when this kind of stuff happens. But what did you
- 17:29enjoy? Simpsons? What I like from this episode? I'm an r M
- 17:34fan from way back? Yeah, so if you if you play I Am
- 17:41Superman, um, Yeah, that's from I think it might be from Green.
- 17:45It's a it's a great yeah it is. Yeah, and then nobody
- 17:48loves you John Lennon. So I got both their favorites there. Everybody's happy.
- 17:53Ah, So yeah, quite happy with that. Another thing I'm fan
- 17:56of is dour, downbeat nineteen seventies science fiction movies. So if you have
- 18:03a prolonged tribute to soilond Green, as this episode did, where Grandpa ends
- 18:08up in the suicide room, where hey, we're going to play a certain
- 18:11kind of music and we're going to show you footage from there from the good
- 18:15old days, Okay, that's all right by me. It's a nice twist
- 18:18in Soiland Green of character goes into such a room. They play some lovely
- 18:22classical music and it's a really shihouse future and they get to show him all
- 18:26this lovely nature. But it's like, well, this is really illuminating the
- 18:30message of this movie, and you know, making me feel a tear or
- 18:33dope. My Grandpa Simpsons, the Glenn Miller and what hippies get beaten up
- 18:37and I literally have mines. Guy will appreciate this. Guy did appreciate that.
- 18:42And also another one third thing I'm a fan of is wordplay. So
- 18:47I liked when outside the public meeting had said come for the agenda, stay
- 18:51for the adenda. I really liked the battery dead and an assistant dead on
- 18:56the commssioner's phone, and the Blackbrie. Well those things they died a quick
- 19:02death, didn't they. Blacky. There's a movie out now. If you're
- 19:08it's not in cinemas in Australia at the moment, but if you've got a
- 19:11the PN or no scruples, yeah that's correct, called BlackBerry. And it's
- 19:18a bit like because there are all these movies out at the moment about here's
- 19:21how they tetris and he's how they did you know he's at the Great the
- 19:23Air George. How many people and how long do you reckon know are paid
- 19:27to come up with that title? How how long were their brainstorming in the
- 19:32room coming up with the title for that movie? And how much do you
- 19:33reckon it cost a movie company to pay these people to come up with that
- 19:37name. But apparently this one's not bad. I haven't seen it yet,
- 19:41but it's about the making of the BlackBerry. I always like those movies.
- 19:45I mean, I really people a few of my friends had they had it,
- 19:48but I'd like, for example, the Steve Jobs movie and things I
- 19:51find Steve Jobs movie is fucking great. Yeah, I'm going to the mat
- 19:55for that one. That's awesome. Way the way he created the iPod,
- 20:00it's just like an amazing story. Amazing, absolutely it is. Yeah.
- 20:03Oh look, there's a lot to be said about about these movies and the
- 20:07way they're told as well. I mean, i'd seen I've seen Air at
- 20:11the cinema and we get it for the Four Fingered Scan Network. It did
- 20:15into the Spider Verse sequel review. Let me show you something just real quick.
- 20:22This is guys to do list for the weekend. Everything is crossed off
- 20:26except record movie reviews of Spider Verse and john Wick four. So make that
- 20:30happen, pase, So I'll do that tonight. I am sorry about that.
- 20:34But just above that was spend time with Girlfriend is the title from what
- 20:40You've Taught Me? John Wick Snore, john Wick Moore, john Wick Please
- 20:48anymore? Uh yeah, But I mean I rewatched Air yeah, just the
- 20:56other weekend because it was like, because you're a pirate that No, No,
- 21:00it's actually on Prime Video now, Oh shit, did you pay for
- 21:03us? It just for free to watch? Yeah, it's free. I
- 21:04mean that's what it was. It was bought by Amazon initially, Oh wow.
- 21:07And then they're like, oh, we'll throw it in cinemas for a
- 21:10few weeks and see we can make a little cash off it. But then
- 21:11we'll put it on put it on Prime And you know, I was down
- 21:15at my sister's plays and I was like, oh, I don't want to
- 21:19think too much. I don't know if I've got enough energy to devote to
- 21:25something new. It was like er will do? And I rewatched it.
- 21:29I was like, yeah, this is really good. And I think Affleck's
- 21:32really smart in terms of like making just movies that are default movies for a
- 21:36Sunday night. But it's like, I don't want to think I trust these
- 21:38guys. Yeah. Yeah, and I'm Blackberries apparently in that vein about you
- 21:44know, the making of the BlackBerry, how do we get the BlackBerry?
- 21:47Because these BlackBerry died assistant dad correct, Oh man, sorry, I've really
- 21:55got to get more discipline when it comes to these dumber side tracks. Oh
- 21:57that's fun. The other thing really liked, there's nothing to do with the
- 22:00actual episode. I really liked the chalk gag. Did you see the chalk
- 22:03gag? The upside down chalk gag? Yeah? I was like, that's
- 22:07how has it not been done before? I was very creative. I liked
- 22:11it. Yeah, I thought I got a big kick out the chalk gat
- 22:14when I says somebout the episode on. One of my favorite moments is the
- 22:17chalkboard gag, which is usually some of them, some of them good,
- 22:22some not so much. This one not too bad. Next question, you

- 24:44Davis, it's time now for some trivia. So what is your first question?
- 24:47My first question is how many slot machines are there on the Las Vegas
- 24:52trash barge? Oh shit, is it a lot? No, I'm gonna
- 25:00say seven. I'm gonna give you the correct anto, which is two two.
- 25:03Okay, I thought, like, what's a casino number? Seven?
- 25:07Yes? My first question is what are the three forms of death available at
- 25:12the euthan Asia? Say, no, damn it. There's peaceful death,
- 25:17instant, slow and painful, and megadeath. I knew there was megadeath.
- 25:21That was the one thing I did remember which was like, it's okay,
- 25:23I guess, um, what is doctor Egoyan's phone number? I didn't write
- 25:30it down? What was it? It client two two two two two two
- 25:36two. No, it is five five five zero three six two okay six
- 25:41two alright. My next one is who is sponsoring the bull fight at the
- 25:45end? Oh damn it, um, it's Taco Pronto. Taco pronto.
- 25:52speF your taco ponto. Yes, if when you don't want to wait twenty
- 25:55minutes for a daco, no taco pronto, ta pronto. I'm pretty sure
- 25:59he was the commentated from the soccer game that time, the one who was
- 26:02like overenthusiastic about it much happening at all? Ye, speaking of soccer,
- 26:06I don't I don't know who won the games pot football for all you know
- 26:11UK lists. Of course we call it soccer here in Australia. But on
- 26:15paramount plus they had the final between Man City and Man United I think,
- 26:18and like someone scored a goal and with like the first player of the game,
- 26:22like the first ten seconds or whatever. I was like, what's happened?
- 26:26What the good names happened to soccer? You know what I mean?
- 26:29You sure? You want? You sure? You weren't watching ted LASSA maybe,
- 26:33but yeah, it's literally if the patterns like the quickest score ever in
- 26:36history or something for Grand Final Final, they do it quick down in Manchester
- 26:41they do indeed. All right, what's your next one? My third and
- 26:45final question for you is, um, where did Mire Quimby meet Lloyd Bridges?
- 26:52Oh? Yeah? Was that an airport? It was an airport in
- 26:56Atlanta? What what? No? I wasn't hearts Field? Hearts Field?
- 27:03All right? And my final question is Luigi's is closed on which day of
- 27:06the week. Oh, it's the day of the week that most fish and
- 27:10chip shops are closed in Geelong. So Monday, Monday. Yeah. And
- 27:15someone told me this story once and I don't know if it's true, And
- 27:18you know, I did this quite often. Like someone told me this and
- 27:19it sounds true and I've run with it forever. It's that Monday's is the
- 27:23day and wish in which all the shops go to the fish market to pick
- 27:26up their fish, fresh fish for the week. I'm like, that is
- 27:30believable. I'm going to accept that as a true answer. I'm going to
- 27:34run with it for the rest of my life. But it is Monday just
- 27:37not a day the people eat fish and chips Like, it's always just Monday.
- 27:40Fish and chip shops are closed on a Monday. I'm like, there's
- 27:41gonna be a reason that every single fish and chip shop is closed on a
- 27:45Monday. And the logical answer is that's when they're going buy their stock.
- 27:48I'm like it kind of makes sense. But why you would have to be
- 27:49closed to buy your stock, I don't know. But every Monday, the
- 27:53fucking fish and chip shops are closed. It's weird. Is it light that
- 27:56anywhere else or is it just a geelong thing? Well? What day of
- 27:59the way in the UK listeners in particular, is there a day of the
- 28:00week in which fish and chip shops are closed? Because you know, fish
- 28:03and chips is fish and chips is like the big thing in the UK's it's
- 28:07their meal. And what is the fish and chip day? Like what you
- 28:11can in the show used to be the Sunday night thing, wasn't it?
- 28:12Fish and chips very from Sunday Sunday roast. Yeah, growing up in the
- 28:18Catholic house, I'll be you have fish on a Friday and yeah, sometimes
- 28:22you wouldn't feel like cooking fish, so you get fish and chips, but
- 28:25also from air. For me, particularly my late teens and early twenties,
- 28:30it's like Sunday night as fish and chips night. I'd be like, I've
- 28:33got a bit of a hangover and eat something greasy to sort of, you
- 28:37know, ease me into the week. I'm gonna squeeze some sauce on the
- 28:40paper. Oh yeah, absolutely, um so it's a piece of flake minimum
- 28:44chips too, dimmies. Stop off at the seven eleven on the way,
- 28:47grab a big bottle of water and a pack of Marlboro lights. Come come
- 28:52home and watch Beverly Hills nine two on the day of Special listeners. You
- 28:56should have seen the hier glee of guide has revenucing then good time. It's
- 29:00great classing kids. So Sunday night was your that was your nine two and
- 29:07o night? Was it that? That's what was on that night? For
- 29:10me? That was New Simpsons eventually became the Wednesday night in Australia, but
- 29:14when I was a kid, New Simpsons was Sunday night, and it was
- 29:15like and Dad would always own the TV on a Sunday night because we wanted
- 29:18to watch whatever was on Sunday Night. Becau Sunday night. They had the
- 29:21important stuff on it right, so Dad would have the big TV and we'd
- 29:23be in mum and Dad's room watching new Simpsons on out on my dad's bed.
- 29:27I never one of my most vivid memories of watching The Simpsons as a
- 29:30kid, it's being in mum and Dad's room when the new episode of Who
- 29:33Shot Mister Burns? Part two was airing for the first time, and my
- 29:38sister Stacy and I had spent like all fucking the summer or whatever it was,
- 29:42or the winter, whatever it's in Australia trying to work out who shot
- 29:47mister Burns. We had a little notepads and we'd written down things and I
- 29:49thought, I thought Smith's the obvious one, and we had it set in
- 29:52stone. I'll never forget. My dad walks in. He's like, you
- 29:56can watching Simpsons out there if you won no show. He's finished, but
- 29:57okay, and it's like, we find it. We're gonna find it.
- 30:00Who shops to Burns? Day goes? They said on the radio the baby
- 30:03did it? And I was like, Nady, why oh man. That's
- 30:11one of my first experience of a proper spoiler. It was so important to
- 30:15me that episode and the heartbreak of knowing who it was. I was so
- 30:21sad. But they said on the radio, that's already been on. We're
- 30:26like, no, it hasn't. He's like, yeah, they said on
- 30:29the radio, the baby did it? Oh oh man man, And we
- 30:34thought he was. And it was so illogical that we just assumed he must
- 30:38have been. Were like maybe, because then when he realized he spoiled it,
- 30:41he was like, well, I'm just bullshit. It's it's not the
- 30:45baby. So we're like, gonna be the baby? Is he telling the
- 30:47truth? I was, Oh, maybe it is that it is Smith's.
- 30:51For that little period, I was so sad. But yeah, can you
- 30:53remember your first spoiler when he was when something got spoiled for you that you
- 30:56were so excited for. Whether it was like so sabotage, we're going on
- 31:00social media or something like that, but can you remember a spoiler. That's
- 31:03a really good point because I mean I've done it numerous times for wrestling events
- 31:07where I've driven and waited all day to not watch or gone social media and
- 31:12then you know, he just But now it's just nature to bring your phone
- 31:15out of your pocket and you go on Facebook or whatever, And the first
- 31:17thing that pops up is the results, like so and so won the title,
- 31:19and I'm like, you fool, Well, it's thinking like I didn't.
- 31:23I didn't even put my phone out to go on Facebook. My brain
- 31:26just did it. It was so used to doing it now I've done it
- 31:30so many times. Stuff sabotage. But can you remember the first spoiler for
- 31:33you? It's literally going it happened a bit later than this than your spoiler,
- 31:37because I mean I was never really really concerned about it, and I
- 31:40can't recall all that many That sort of meant a great deal to me.
- 31:42I mean, I was lucky that I went into Empire Strikes Back and didn't
- 31:45know that that must have been so awesome. That was pretty rad. It
- 31:49was to experience that with so many people at the same time would have been
- 31:52such a cool experience. But here's the thing. Empire Strikes Back, I
- 31:56think started during school holidays and my birthday corresponded with it and didn't start in
- 32:01Geelong. But Dad drove me and my best friend JP up to Melbourne,
- 32:09so we got like the first screening on the Thursday that had opened, and
- 32:13we went to Hoyt Smid City in Berke Street. And I don't know,
- 32:17maybe Star Wars wasn't that big a deal for some people, but we were
- 32:20like it was a huge cinema. It felt huge to us because we were
- 32:22a little kids. We're ten or eleven, yeah, eleven years old,
- 32:28and we were like the cinema. There was maybe like five or six people
- 32:32in the cinema. But yeah, well that was the first screaming, first
- 32:37screening, and yeah, I think I'm pretty sure. My uncle Darren,
- 32:40he would have been fourteen, fourteen thirteen when the first movie came out,
- 32:47and he says it was just huge, like Star Wars just absorbed his life.
- 32:50Like, oh, he said Star Wars was massive, you know it
- 32:53really was. Yeah, I mean, yeah, it doesn't make sense,
- 32:57but I'm pretty sure that's how I recall it. Anyway. I recall because
- 33:00I bought a little Yoda action figure in the foyer. I think you've talked
- 33:04about this, and then I lost it in the cinema, lost it,
- 33:06yeah, and I was like, what the hell that that was a spoiler
- 33:09that spoiled ship for me, the first real spoiler I remember. It was
- 33:14actually like the sixth sense. I got to experience that with Nikola, and
- 33:17she didn't. In the end, I got to see her see her response
- 33:21that, yeah, that was pretty cool. But yeah, so you knew
- 33:22about that going and that's a shame. That's such a cool. Yeah,
- 33:24because everyone was sort of talking about these early days of the internet, people
- 33:30are talking about, well, just you know, you should know there's something
- 33:35to happen, there's a twist, and I'm like, oh, that sounds
- 33:37interesting. Okay, well, I don't really want to know about that.
- 33:38And then I was reading a related article. It wasn't a review of the
- 33:45movie or anything like that, but someone mentioned, oh, by the way,
- 33:49it's like we all know the spoiler for the sixth sense by now.
- 33:51Yeah. Yeah, but it's like, oh, okay, well that's m
- 34:00I mean. Then I still saw the movie, and I was still appreciated
- 34:01the movie, I thought, but knowing that I was watching going okay,
- 34:06oh, it's like it's like you watched the film. Everybody watched it for
- 34:10the second time pretty much. Yeah. I mean, I imagine I would
- 34:14have got at the end like everyone else. Though. My favorite twist that
- 34:19I remember being in the movies where everyone was just fucking gobsmacked and like no
- 34:23one saw it coming was sore. Oh, like Saw one. I won't
- 34:29spoil it for people know it. I won't. I won't spoil it just
- 34:31in case, you know, just in case someone that they wants to watch
- 34:34it one day. I know what it's like. But when that happens at
- 34:36the very end, remember everyone seen him, it was gone, oh fuck,
- 34:40look it's so obvious. How do we not see that? And it
- 34:44was just it was really cool. Yeah, and it's just sort of stuck
- 34:46with me. But I just yeah, this is yeah, this isn't so
- 34:49much a spoiler, but I do recall a twist like where I actually went
- 34:53like a crowded cinema. It was total recal. I'm pretty sure I talked
- 34:58about it, you know, yeah, don't let's say the actual spoiler.
- 35:00But yeah, no, this isn't even an actual spoiler. But it's more
- 35:02like, um, it's a development where you know, the guy comes in
- 35:08and says, oh, you think you're having this adventure of Mars, but
- 35:10guess what, you're still in the chairback at recall and I'm like, wait
- 35:15what, Yeah, I just thought that was fantastic talking. I'm a sucker
- 35:21for a good twist, and yeah, let's not spoiling for anybody. Hey

- 35:57the original airdate of Million Dollars Aby was April in two thousand and six,
- 36:00written by Tim Long, directed by Stephen Dean Moore. Our guest appearance from
- 36:04Rob Ryner and Michael Carrington as the Jock Center host. Number two chopboard gag
- 36:07was I will not flip the classroom upside down and it's actually upside down,
- 36:10which I thought was very clever, and the couch gag. One was the
- 36:14one with the Simpsons family are sitting down in the couch and it's TiVo,
- 36:15and I was like, tivot wasn't a thing here, But I don't remember
- 36:21still thing in America. We could just have like our Fox. Our box
- 36:23just does essentially what TVO would do. But I remember there was a point
- 36:27in time where being able to record TV was like such a cool concept where
- 36:30it was no video games. It was just recorded on your box and you
- 36:32could delete it. But you don't need it anymore. It was so awesome,
- 36:35don't we called the DVR? Just did it recording? We did get
- 36:38Oh my god, the modern world, What a world we live in,
- 36:43What a time to be alive? Yes, and they says delete the recording
- 36:46and delete the Simpsons. But the episode kicks up with the family watching TV
- 36:50and we get a gag about Carmen Electra and her boobs, and I was
- 36:52like, oh, that's a sign of two thousand and six. Carmon Electra,
- 36:54I haven't had that name another long time. She she was like,
- 36:58and I'll say this with in the nicest way possible, like gorgeous woman,
- 37:01but she was not going to say she was almost like the poor Man's Pamela
- 37:06Anderson. That's exactly what I was thinking when this and those exact words.
- 37:10We folks, we did not collaborate on this, but yeah, I'm not
- 37:15guessing a lot of people they're probably way But the fact of it is that
- 37:21we both thought, yeah, Carmon Electric, nice gal, but the poor
- 37:23Man's Pamela. Pamela kind of cornered the market on Guru A Ruger, That's
- 37:31yeah, I mean, and yeah, the the exaggerated blonde bomb shelter up
- 37:37and Carmon Electrics going. We couldn't afford Pamela rans and the Carmans free.
- 37:40Oh yeah, cool, that's fine. Yeah, and she she seemed I
- 37:45no more racy than Pamela. Pamela had a sex tape and stuff like that,
- 37:49but carmea elected to see what she'd be up for. Nathan True.
- 37:53I'm trying to recall if she was like a Prince protege, because Prince said
- 38:00this phase where he was like, yeah, I'll help you get a recording
- 38:04contract or whatever. The Purple rainstar dated a bevue Beautiful sales throughout his life,
- 38:07including Kim Bassenger, Shila E, and calm An Electra. The relationship
- 38:12came to an end in the early nineteen nineties. Come and want to live
- 38:15in la and Prince wanted to stay in Minnesota. Prince wanted to stay in
- 38:21Minnesota. It's just not what I expected. He Yet, we build Paisley
- 38:24parkins like I don't need to live, you know, I want to hang
- 38:28around, purify myself in the waters of Lake Netonka. They're talking about Jock
- 38:32Center here and they're announcing they're going to have a new football team and they're
- 38:37looking for a new place to bring it. And Lesa says, we only
- 38:39known for the place that has the most heart attacks, and we get a
- 38:42clip of Nelson and Moment having heart attacks. The home avows to make it
- 38:45happen, and everybody laughs at him, and even Maggie bald Mummy is short
- 38:49to fail. Then a random gag so cut too like the exterior of the
- 38:53house, and we hear various sounds of Homer building is whatever it is,
- 38:59and then there's a sto sort of payoff for the sounds that we hear.
- 39:01It was odd, yeah, but here's the thing I mean within that is
- 39:07kind of like the germ of an Okay gang, where it's like you hear
- 39:10various sounds of work, and then you hear the pinball machine. It's like,
- 39:14I can't be asked work anymore time to play pinball? But then you
- 39:16have to put a hat on a hat on a hat with all this?
- 39:20What was the other ship? It was like European siren and something else.
- 39:23It's always like one too fair. He's come, that's kind of singing,
- 39:28yeah, the ringer ring of rosy. Someone's like, yeah, fuck was
- 39:30the point of that? You know? You had a perfectly good joke and
- 39:32ye and yeah, screw it all up? Why is that happening? Where's
- 39:36that coming from? What's I'm like, what's the payoff going to be for
- 39:37this? Are the reason the payoff? What? What's happening here? But
- 39:42Marge goes down, she finds Homer after a week, he's been working on
- 39:44this thing and he's actually put together a pretty good pitch. He's built the
- 39:46stadium and he's built there, got the d arama of the players and everything
- 39:51like that. It's not bad. Um, No, Homer do good.
- 39:53And he's called the team the Springfield Meltdowns. The various sponsors of the of
- 39:58the model on the model there, and he's like Sponsor Sponsor spontsor spontsor a
- 40:01stupid Flanders park and Marge pretty attraction to me, and she can't believe he's
- 40:06done all this hard work, so she pounces on him. But first of
- 40:07all, she says, would you mind brushing your teeth? And I've got
- 40:09here. Have you ever kissed somebody who had bad breath? And did you
- 40:14a tell them or be just run with it because he just really wanted to
- 40:15kiss them. I'm normally the one with a bad breath. Yes. Has
- 40:20any ever told you to brush your teeth? Kiss them? Oh? Yeah,
- 40:22the love of the weed has many times. And I'm like, I
- 40:24was gonna it's happened to me once and I kiss Nick and Nicholas like you
- 40:28brush your teeth today, and I was like, oh man, now,
- 40:30breath complex. It's like, yeah, I certainly will from now on.
- 40:32Yeah. No, But I mean it's one of the things I tend to
- 40:37be fairly conscious of or sensitive about. So usually if I wake up,
- 40:44I'm going to run into the bathroom, you know, do a little plexing
- 40:47so that minty fresh. Yeah, because you don't want to be hit hitting
- 40:57up your lady love with dragon breath Oh hi, I'm Rob Reiner, director
- 41:05of When Harry Met Sally. I'll have what she's having was one of the
- 41:08lines. I'm here to tell you why you should choose La over Springfield.
- 41:15La has the beach, a thriving music scene, and the beautiful Getty Museum.
- 41:20Springfield has a pounahasapia pedal on. Hollywood takes in talented actors and writers
- 41:32from all over the world. Springfield takes in garbage from other cities. But
- 41:45don't just take my word for it. Some of Hollywood's biggest stars have taken
- 41:50the time to sign waivers, allowing celebrity impersonators to sing in this video.
- 41:57Enjoy the song a lot even funny, no, no, terrible. But
- 42:30they're going through like a we are the world Like they do this perfectly in
- 42:34Radio bart right, it doesn't work in this one. This one is just
- 42:37what lazy And I don't know if the lazies this is meant to be the
- 42:40point. It's like, these guys are no competition and we'll just say they
- 42:44suck, and it goes on and on and on and on, and then
- 42:46it just gets to them going we hate La. We weren't gonna get them
- 42:50a team, and I'm like, then, why was it down to those
- 42:52two? Yeah? By the way, one thing I did like about Rob
- 42:55Ryana's guest performance of facing all the stars on Hollywood Boulevard, even his own
- 43:02dad's by putting Rob over Carl Rhiner and Rhina over Roblow. Oh it was
- 43:08pretty funny, was Rob blow? He was back into good books by this
- 43:10point. Wasn't because he had west Wing and things like that. Yeah,
- 43:14the early night, wasn't it. Yeah, late eighties or early nineties where
- 43:16he sort of went off there because because it was Prey Wainsbow. Wasn't it
- 43:20because Wainswell was like his comeback? Wasn't it a little bit of a comeback?
- 43:22Yeah? I mean he in the in the lifespan of celebrity scandals,
- 43:29his was fairly brief and burned out fairly quickly. Yeah. The upshot of
- 43:32it was he was at some political rally and think he had a freeze threesome
- 43:38which was taped with a couple of young women who turned out to be young
- 43:43women. That's the issue, all right. Yeah, when I say young,
- 43:46I mean like sixteen, and that's that's young. And but also they
- 43:52may have been the age of consent in that particular area, but it's all
- 43:55still like Rob come on man, and yeah he was off the radar for
- 44:00a little while, but yeah, then bounce back. Where do you play
- 44:02in Wayne's World? He was like that, I forgot the character's name,
- 44:05but he was like the TV exact, wasn't he? The t was it
- 44:07TV exactly? It wasn't he? Yeah. I have revisited Wayne's World for
- 44:09a long time, and Nicholas never seen now. So we've got to watch
- 44:14that movie one day because I used to love it when I was another teenager.
- 44:16I don't know whether they watching. They're both not bad. I think
- 44:20waynes World two was actually pretty good. I've never seen waynes World two.
- 44:22I own, I owned waynes World, I've never watched it. Waynes World
- 44:24two is pretty good, Okay. I got a bit of a soft spot
- 44:28for I mean a lot of those SNL movies from the nineties and early two
- 44:31thousands, a junk cone Heads. I used to like cone Heads when I
- 44:35was a kid. I've never revisited. I'm going to leave it that way
- 44:37because I feel like it's probably a bad movie, but I used to.
- 44:39I used to like the cone Heads movie when I was Younger Ladies Man.
- 44:43I didn't mind that there was a character played by Tim Meadows from Walk Card
- 44:50and Mean Girls. He's basically just this like pimpy ladies man kind of guy
- 44:55who has like a late night talking Talkbauck radio show where he's answering sexy questions
- 45:00and he's usually like, oh, yeah, that sounds real sexy. You
- 45:04will lead it. Oh, I don't know. They were able to spin
- 45:07a movie out, but it had musical numbers and everything wasn't too bad.
- 45:10At the Roxbury that was another one. The Roxbury. Um, yeah,
- 45:15they went through a stage where they all these kind of one note characters got
- 45:20movies. Yeah, it never happens anymore. I felt. The last person
- 45:23to sort of get anything out of that was maybe Um Sandberg. He was
- 45:27sort of the last little SNL started to sort of break out and do his
- 45:30own thing. Do you think got his own show? Now? What?
- 45:32He was dating Kardashian recently. What's his name? Oh, Pete Davidson.
- 45:37Pete Davidson. But he's probably the breaker. Kate McKinnon, I guess yeah.
- 45:40I mean a few have gone on to do other things. I mean,
- 45:45yeah, Kate McKinnon's not unpopular. She's in the Barbie movie that's coming
- 45:47up. One of one of my favorites from sl was as a woman called
- 45:52Cecily Strong. She's fantastic, and she's on a show called Smickadoon on Apple
- 45:58TV's sort of a musical. She's great. But now that it's not really
- 46:01making the stars the way it used to. Nah, But we can sume
- 46:05TV differently as well. Now. I mean I feel like sort of lives
- 46:08by clips on YouTube as opposed to people sitting down on a Saturday and all
- 46:10watching s and l at the same time. Yeah, much like tonight shows.
- 46:15Yeah exactly. I can't remember the last time I actually sat down and
- 46:17watch the full episode of a talk show when now it's like someone said a
- 46:22little three minute clip on YouTube, Ill watch that, but I won't sit
- 46:23down and watch the full episode. But yeah, So they've got the Springfield
- 46:28blow song, which is no good. They all hate them. Maybe at
- 46:30the rich text and saying he's just he's sad because he has to go tell
- 46:32his gay grandson that he still loves him even though he's gay, And I
- 46:36was like, what was he sad to say? I couldn't. It didn't
- 46:39even feel like a gay. Well, he was like, I've gotta go
- 46:42tell my grandson that I love him, even know that he's gay. I'm
- 46:45okay, Alway says I can go tell my gay grandson that I still love
- 46:50him. It was the tone for me. It was the tone of all
- 46:53his texts, and so he would be opposed to homosexuality, So of course
- 46:57that's the thing. I just didn't. It just felt weird, not necessary
- 47:01to me. But then we get the news report for the announcement. This
- 47:05is Kent Brockman Alive, a Duff Beer, Krusty Berger, bos Cola,
- 47:07Costington's department store, Quickie Mark, Stupid Flanders Park. In just one hour,
- 47:10the Commissioner of Football will arrive to sign the contracts necessary to make Springfield
- 47:15the home of Pro Football's newest team, The Meltdowns. I've got melt maybe
- 47:21I like dawn syndrome. In honor of the Commissioner's visit, the city has
- 47:25been repainted in the team colors at all the streets whimsically renamed Dutchdown Avenue delightful.
- 47:32Who are you talking to your imaginary girlfriend? No, it isn't your
- 47:37mother a well known how No, you win this round? Mal, someone's
- 47:45like they have now acknowledged that he yells at in every episode because the joke
- 47:47is Jimbo saying, who are you talking to? Dude? Why are you
- 47:51speakulate this when there's no one else around? It's like, what are you
- 47:53doing? Yeah, a lot of these gangs just sort of had extra bits
- 47:57that didn't really add anything or to tracted from what went beforehands like, yeah,
- 48:01just cut it off it who are you talking to? Because if the
- 48:05rebuttal is, isn't your mom a whore? You in this round? Mal?
- 48:07I'm like, that's the joke. Come on, that's if that's the
- 48:12page, that's the payoff and the set up just isn't required in my opinion.
- 48:15Then Bob Armstroump he is late for the contract signing and he can't find
- 48:20the place because Springfield change all the street names too. I thought that's I
- 48:22thought that was okay, that it makes sense. Yeah, yeah, I
- 48:25didn't mind that he's late, But he's batch's died in his phone and his
- 48:30assistant's dead. So he goes to the Simpsons house and Grandpa's there watching that,
- 48:34watching Maggie's that what he's watching watching Maggie's that way he's there. I
- 48:36know he's supposed whatever reason, and he wants to use the phone slash the
- 48:39bathroom by the way, a quick nitpick. I know this is usually your
- 48:43area, but they give you an image of the crowd, Rainy a Wolfcastle
- 48:49shouldn't be in the crowd is to be like a corporate box or something.
- 48:52That's true. Yeah, I'll take that. Yeah, it's just anyway.
- 48:54But Grandpa he sees the news story about Snake, and Snake's talking about when
- 48:59he breaks in the people's as he pretends to used to phae in the bathroom.
- 49:00So Grandpa thinks that the commissioner is there to try and steal their gold,
- 49:06steal their money, so he hits him with the golf club. There's
- 49:07had an idea for a gag in that forty eight minutes thing where it's like
- 49:10we spoke to someone about, you know, bashing old people over the head
- 49:15or whatever. Do that thing on Current Affair shows where you blur out someone's
- 49:17face so you can't see who they are, but it's Snake's voice. Yeah,
- 49:21and you just know it. I was like having to say, like
- 49:24premium or dude, having said do you know, like how do you know
- 49:30how can you tell? I mean, how can you not tell? There's
- 49:31a snake? Anyway? Yeah, hit him with the golf club, and
- 49:35I'm doing what I can to help you. Simpsons episode You Need It.
- 49:37We cut back to the crowd and Wigams telling bad Joseph try and store for
- 49:40time until the commissioner arrives. He's resigning a poem. I don't know what
- 49:44it is. It's like a poem about ancient Native Americans or something. Okay.
- 49:49The family then arrived home. They find the commissioner all tied up and
- 49:52he storms out, and then we get a really mean, sad line from
- 49:58Homer. Here he goes, you're a useless old man, and I'm like
- 50:00that, It's just like, I don't know that was that was. And
- 50:07because that line was there backed up with nobody loving him and him resorting to
- 50:10suicide, what the fuck kind of morbid shit is this? It was simple,
- 50:17you're useless old man. We left me with the baby. You left
- 50:21me with a baby. They kind of end with a gag there, but
- 50:22I just thought you were a useless old man. There's no jokes there.
- 50:27It's just a real mean spirited line from that just I don't know didn't work
- 50:32from me. Now you could say that it's it's valid or that it's necessary
- 50:37for the story in terms of well it makes Grandpa to press and he thinks
- 50:43about ending at all. But again, it's a matter of how it's handled,
- 50:46how it's presented, how it's yea, all that kind of stuff.
- 50:49But yeah, Grandpa has to feel low. But yeah, I mean to
- 50:52do it this way, it kind of feels not so much like, oh
- 50:57well, this will get us moving to the next man. That's just something
- 50:59you don't come back from. Yeah, And then it's just like they would
- 51:02have the argument, Wow, well Marge told her to call him, but
- 51:06but you got distracted by the phone, you know that the movie survey or
- 51:08whatever it was. And I'm like yeah, but then no one thought to
- 51:13go, oh well, let's just call him up again, you know,
- 51:15like, okay, home, we got distracted. But where was anyone?
- 51:17Why why didn't Marge call? And what didn't lesa go seeing wouldn't like no
- 51:21one cared about Graham but to the point where we want to commit suicide and
- 51:23had the lockers that, had the law not changed, he'd be dead and
- 51:25they wouldn't have even realized. Very true. Also, as we said earlier,
- 51:30you know, it's just a missed opportunity where Lisa should be the only
- 51:35one who cares about him. So at the end it feels like it's cause
- 51:38an effect. Yeah, but by the way, Chief Wiggins is reciting the
- 51:43song of Hiawatha by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, which is also a name for a
- 51:49part of My Anatomy. I wanted to also point out that this episode was
- 51:52rated M in Australia because of the themes of M Yeah, you would fifteen
- 52:00in the UK. So everyone now hates Grandpa. Get the montage with John
- 52:04Lennon's Nobody Loves You when You're Down and Out, which is a great song.
- 52:07Even the Denchers won't smile at Grandpa anymore. No one likes him.
- 52:09The old Jewish guy arrives and he spits on him, and then he gives
- 52:13him the card for the euthan Asia doctor and Grandpa says he wants to grab
- 52:16a bit of dignity slipping in the shower and they find him more blood.
- 52:20Just so, I don't know, it's a different whether he's a human or
- 52:22a couch. Mister Simpson, you are a good candidate for assisted suicide.
- 52:30I think you're cute too, but killing yourself isn't as easy as putting on
- 52:35an ugly sweater like you did today. I want you to carefully think about
- 52:37this for twenty four hours. Oh, I see. You want me to
- 52:42reconsider whether or not I really should give up my life. Yeah, and
- 52:46we're cleaning out the death machine today. A lot of gun gets stuck in
- 52:51it. Grandpa says that he will decide to live if he gets a phone
- 52:54call, and Marge told him to call. He's about to call, but
- 52:57he gets the movie Sovey the questionnaire gets distracted, and another whole day goes
- 53:00by, and Grandpa decides he's going to kill himself because no one has called
- 53:05him and no one likes him anymore. He feels like a useless old man.
- 53:07As Homer puts it. We're now at the clinic and he says he's
- 53:10gonna be hooked up to the dipod, which which now is nostalgia because the
- 53:14iPod isn't a thing anymore. Correct. I remember a news article about Apple
- 53:19have discontinued the iPod, and I was like, that's sad. I mean,
- 53:22they're not necessary anymore. They're still sad. You know, it's still
- 53:25kind of I don't know. I like them. I like the idea of
- 53:30them. Yeah, but I mean I know we're all listening to him through
- 53:34our phones, and it's like, I like the idea, just a little
- 53:36device, it's just for that unnecessary, but I can understand why people will
- 53:38still have that connection to him because that's what they've Or even the Mini,
- 53:43I mean I used to like I had a Mini that I really dug.
- 53:45I hated the minis because you couldn't have as much. I used to like
- 53:47having the info. To me, it was a big deal having like the
- 53:51album cover and the song information. I was like, this is like my
- 53:53little collection here in my little in my pocket. And then I used to
- 53:57sit there for ages, like updating the titles and the writers and having the
- 54:00album covers, and there's a big deal to me. When iPads iPods first
- 54:04had the color, it was like whoa, it was like a new world.
- 54:07But just hearing that, you know, the iPods they're gone, I
- 54:09can imagine it'd be almost like when you read the article about the VCRs being
- 54:14discontinued. Yeah, oh absolutely, and or even d going to JB and
- 54:19like we were on the Blue Beach. You go j being there, like
- 54:22would you like it free Blue Bay when you enter the store, and I'm
- 54:24like, not really actually what they did, but I'm just like they can't
- 54:30give them away now, you know what I mean. It's just I mean,
- 54:31I they had a buy won't get one free sale and I looked through
- 54:37everything and I went, there's nothing. There's nothing. The other thing was
- 54:40I mean, yeah, because I saw that same thing because we were sort
- 54:43of negotiating that if you want one, I'll go pick yeah, because if
- 54:45you want one, then you get one and all that other I found two
- 54:49that I wanted and it was like not available for clicking collecting your local stores.
- 54:53I want to pay for posts. I'm what's the point. I'm like,
- 54:58how a bad fuck you? Yeah. I'm like, I'm not saving
- 55:00anything because I'm gonna be posting it anyway. Yeah, so god, hell
- 55:05yeah. It's like they've they don't stop. But I'm not happy they don't
- 55:10stock their stores anymore with like older, older films, And I'm like,
- 55:15I know you can. It's happening. Like we're on the right track.
- 55:19We're on the track now. They will be gone soon. You do realize
- 55:22this like, I think we have both both have to accept physical media will
- 55:25be gone. And the next time, the other day we lost our Telsia
- 55:31fucked up our internet and we couldn't get internet right, We couldn't stream anything.
- 55:35And Eliot's like, I want to watch Space Jam. I'm like,
- 55:37we can't make it. We can't because fucking Netflix isn't working. I'm sorry
- 55:42like that, He's like, we make it work. I'm like, it
- 55:44doesn't work. I want to watch Space Jam. And then and then he
- 55:46just goes put the disc in. I was like, wait a minute,
- 55:51what an idea? That is? This novel concept of putting a fucking movie
- 55:54in the displayer and actually playing the movie. I never would have thought of
- 55:59that one. Well done sim wisdom from the mouths of Babes. I was
- 56:02like, all this argument could have been sold if I just went to the
- 56:06shelf with the four K and Space Jam and put it in the machine.
- 56:09But the idea of all of us not. If I can't get Netflix,
- 56:13then I can't watch it. It's like they've because they've they've converted me.
- 56:15I'm like, wait a minute, it's there. I owned the movie.
- 56:20Why do I care if Netflix has it? Or not. And then I
- 56:22put it in. I was like, Wow, it's clearer. I can
- 56:24skip chapters, the trailers and everything. That's right. There was something novel
- 56:32about putting it in and just getting the menu. I was like, oh,
- 56:36menus, I remember these special features audio coming Terry's music videos from songs
- 56:44in the film. We never had it so good and put it on.
- 56:50We'll putting it on and Alliott's going through and he goes, what's that one.
- 56:52I'm like, that's the film clip for the for the Bad Guys song.
- 56:54And he goes, put it on. He watched that film clip.
- 56:57I'm like, repeat for like ten fifteen minutes three times in a row.
- 57:00The the idea of a music video. He was like what is this?
- 57:05Like what what? And I was like, oh yeah, music videos don't
- 57:07really thing anymore, like they are on YouTube. But like I don't think
- 57:09people go out of their way to watch music videos any what that is like
- 57:12streamed the song on Spotify, you know, let's reconci how often do you
- 57:15watch the videos on YouTube? You know what I mean? Unless it's like
- 57:17an old one. But growing up, it was if you wanted to hear
- 57:21the song, unless it was on the radio. You had to wait for
- 57:23it to the music video on Yeah, on Smash Hits or yeah whatever it
- 57:28was video hits, video hits, or as I watched it, as I
- 57:34evolved to a mature teenager or preteen rage Rage like the Rage Top fifty was
- 57:40awesome because it was noahds and it was uncut, so you had the swearing.
- 57:47But they played the full music video and the full music video that I
- 57:51remember watching, obviously you would have been like Thriller or something, right,
- 57:53but the Backstreet Boys is gonna sound silly, I know. But the Backstreet
- 57:57Boys had a video for that ever a Bard Yeah that song, which is
- 58:01like Thriller and it's all monsters and ships. Yeah yeah, like universal monsters.
- 58:06Right. But there was like a two minute interlude of them arriving at
- 58:08the Haunted Mansion and then being going to bed and being all spoot and going
- 58:13I know about this place, man, And then then they wake up and
- 58:15they are they are the monsters, right, and that the start and that's
- 58:19when they wake up. That's when the show's up. Video hits were just
- 58:21cuts them going every Bard already in their monster form. But it's like a
- 58:24two minute thing that's set up and they're becoming the monsters, and then after
- 58:29the song's finished, there was like a two minutes afterwards where they're like turned
- 58:31back into people again, like they wake up from their dream. And I'm
- 58:35like, you would only get that if you watched it on Rage, So
- 58:37it was like it was a big deal to see the full clip. Yeah.
- 58:40The funniest thing that happened on Rage as well was they'd get international artists
- 58:45who are touring or whatever. It's like, come on and program Rage and
- 58:47can play any videos. You're like, yeah, and everyone always played this
- 58:52song called Window Liquor by Aphex Twin because the video was banned everywhere else in
- 58:57the world. It's necessarily violent or sexy and everything like that. It's kind
- 59:02of sexy comes but it's just disturbing. It's got some really like weird imagery
- 59:07because afx twin his sort of logo as this mask that's sort of like grinning
- 59:12Joker mask, and it's got all these women in skimpy bikinis being sort of
- 59:17hosed down and shaking their butts in slow motion, but they've all got the
- 59:21smiley face on and it's kind of like, this is weird. That's infesting
- 59:25my dreams. But everyone who who came in from overseass like you can play
- 59:30us on TV. We're programming that. That was great, but we were
- 59:37now returning you to million dollars AB already in progress. But yeah, I
- 59:42was will say everyone hates Grandpa's that the clinic's hooked up to the diapod.
- 59:45That's right. He wants the Glenmill Orchestra. Let's just skim through this piece
- 59:47of shit, man. Yeah, he wants to see hear the music,
- 59:52and watch videos of cops beating up hippies. Then the cops enter with one
- 59:55minute to go before he's about to die, and the sister's suicide law has
- 59:59been overturned. Her grandpa wikes off, thinks that he's dead. He's running
- 1:00:01through the streets and in his gown and he says he doesn't know whether he's
- 1:00:05in heaven and hell, and he says, Hanburger heaven and Charlie chaplain.
- 1:00:08He thinks he's in heaven as well, and he walks into Luigi's for whatever,
- 1:00:12raising the family just happened to be there. What you're all dead too?
- 1:00:20So who went berserk? That's so? Were the little guy run out
- 1:00:22dead? And matter a year, I'm not. I guess if you want
- 1:00:28to commit suicide around here, you gotta do it yourself. So sad gap
- 1:00:32killing yourself as a sin, but not just to die of old age after
- 1:00:37years of pain and reduced mobility. I ain't gonna kill myself because I just
- 1:00:44learned something. The brief time I thought I was dead was the happiest I've
- 1:00:52ever been because I was finally living without fear and Dad never Dead's the way
- 1:00:58I'm gonna live the rest of my life after years of pain and an immability.
- 1:01:01And I was like, that's a good lie. I appreciate that one.
- 1:01:04That's the kind of thing that's irrelevant to this episode. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:07yeah, yeah exactly. And then Grandpa, this whole story should have
- 1:01:09been about euthanasia. That's that's the thing. Got set up about the football
- 1:01:14team, and then have the batter or at the end, it's like the
- 1:01:16only then is only about five minutes of this actual episode. It's crazy to
- 1:01:21think that such a such a hot topic was barely in this episode at all.
- 1:01:25But we're now at the wet to come to the point where Grandpa said
- 1:01:30he's gone to live without any fear. You know, the moment where I
- 1:01:31thought I was dead was where I was just happy and I wasn't worried.
- 1:01:35We had a montage of him sort of living life on to the extreme,
- 1:01:38but as an old person, like using the other saltwater taffy and skateboarding on
- 1:01:43but any two things saltwater taffy and skateboard on his scooters, you're all going
- 1:01:46to die in a pointless war. There was one thing here that made me
- 1:01:49sad was the exterior of the supermarket has been updated. It used to always
- 1:01:53be that old supermarket with the trolley rolling out of the out of the young
- 1:01:55car park, but it was as a different design now. It was like
- 1:01:59ally when you look at nineties McDonald's stores and you look at modern stores.
- 1:02:01It made me sad. But when now at the town hall meeting there thinking
- 1:02:07of ideas for the stadium now because they've spent all this money on a stadium
- 1:02:09now they've got no use for it, no use for it. This giant
- 1:02:13stadium, there's no use for it. We didn't we have that recently where
- 1:02:15it was we have no use for this orchestra with some Yeah, it's a
- 1:02:20music hall that we built. It's right, yeah, I'm pretty sure you
- 1:02:22just rehashed the same story. Literally now I must admit I've forgotten, so
- 1:02:28I've written, who's the Spaniard? Is here the guy from the people that
- 1:02:30had all the different movie jackets? Yeah? Yeah, it's planning a Hollywood
- 1:02:34jacket guy. Yeah yeah, but only only twig because I saw the plane
- 1:02:37a Hollywood jacket and I'm like, oh, ok AD's that guy? Of
- 1:02:38all the people, you could bring back this guy. I feel that the
- 1:02:42design is kind of different with him. Started with him quite it looked it
- 1:02:45kind of looked like him, but it didn't as well at the same time.
- 1:02:47But they they he suggests bullfighting, they all say, oh, they
- 1:02:52need a matador, and Grandpa's like, oh, do it. And then
- 1:02:54I'm like, okay, why that's your way of living after the fullest?
- 1:03:00Is it? I don't know, It's just isn't it a death wish?
- 1:03:01Being a bullfighter? Anyway? And like the it's the thing. I guess
- 1:03:07the family didn't want him to the family that want into it was Is it
- 1:03:08just Lisa did did we see margin Homer protest against it to say don't do
- 1:03:14it, it's too dangerous. Not that I recall, no so that the
- 1:03:16whole point of them being annoyed that he was can't commit suicides, it seems.
- 1:03:22And this is the thing. Not once in that scene where he said,
- 1:03:24you want to commit suicide, did they say you can't do that because
- 1:03:29we love you. It was you can't do it because God doesn't want you
- 1:03:30to, So that they didn't even they didn't even have them say that they
- 1:03:36love him in that moment. Yeah, this is an opportunity for you to
- 1:03:39do that kind of thing, to reinforce the and the and have the family
- 1:03:44realize, oh my god, we are not showing this man the love that
- 1:03:45he needs. You know, they just fopped it off, like you can't
- 1:03:49kill yourself. God doesn't want you to anyway. So Granba was now practicing
- 1:03:55the bullfight and he was Bart, sorry, see the mat off thing and
- 1:04:00with the red flag, and Bart goes past home and finds a penny,
- 1:04:02bends over. You think he's gonna get a horn in the bum, but
- 1:04:04he gets it in the crutch out. We're now at the first fight and
- 1:04:09Lisa is at the front protesting because you know who cares about grab By killing
- 1:04:13himself, But those bulls, he can't kill those bulls, you know,
- 1:04:15Carlin Lenny. They compliment her, singing, He's going to bring it the
- 1:04:17bull's heart, and Grandpa's all dressed up and marches, yeah, you know,
- 1:04:21he looks. He looks pretty good, all dressed up in the in
- 1:04:24the outfit. Then the bull just roundly gets tired and falls down in front
- 1:04:28of it. Is this how bullfights go? I've never I've never actually watched
- 1:04:30one. I just don't want I don't want to. I don't want to
- 1:04:32watch the only well, the main thing that I remember about bullfights is there
- 1:04:39was there's great memorable or viral moment where a Matt at Door just sort of
- 1:04:45realized halfway through a bullfight that he was like, you know what, fuck
- 1:04:48this, this kind of sucks, and he just stops and he goes and
- 1:04:54sits down, and actually he's sort of I mean, it's one of those
- 1:04:57things where it's like this image can mean anything, but it was like this
- 1:04:59guy I was crying because he realizes, oh god, I'm just here to
- 1:05:02kill this ball for no reason. And you know, you seem sort of
- 1:05:05leaning against the woman, just feeling ashamed of himself or whatever. It's like,
- 1:05:09I mean, that's kind of moving and poignan or whatever. But yeah,
- 1:05:13unlike this episode, which is neither of those things. No. Then
- 1:05:16yet the shot with the ball looking up sad and broken and tired, and
- 1:05:20Grandpa lifts up the knife and you think what was he going to do?
- 1:05:24And he comes down and it cuts away to Lisa, and I'm like,
- 1:05:27okay, so what the grand But I actually do I know? The ball
- 1:05:30just got killed. That's a line that I feel that Simpsons have never crossed
- 1:05:33shore. We see the animals getting killed and things like that, but for
- 1:05:36it to be handled in this way, it just felt so wrong. It
- 1:05:41just felt so Unsimpson, Like, didn't it It just felt so I don't
- 1:05:45know, I just I didn't. I didn't like it. Yeah, and
- 1:05:47this is not to say there's not room for quote unquote dramatic moments or poignant
- 1:05:53moments in a Simpson episode, but yeah, this one just felt kind of
- 1:05:57awkward and weird and not mean spirits a bit a little bit cruel, A
- 1:06:01pointless death in a pointless episode. Yeah. Yeah, although I must admit
- 1:06:05the old man beats meadline was not unfunny. Yeah, it was funny,
- 1:06:11of course, but that's where I went, Oh, he actually did it,
- 1:06:14so Lisa. Then Lisa goes to see him and she says, and
- 1:06:16he says, I've got to do this because people are now cheering for me.
- 1:06:19I was always cheering for you, Grandpa. And I'm like, no,
- 1:06:23was she though? Tim? Tim, Tim, do you remember did
- 1:06:27you cut something out of the script that we're forgetting to that we didn't see
- 1:06:30here, because I'm pretty sure we never once saw Lisa show any form of
- 1:06:33empathy towards Grandpa. She was showing some empathy towards other bulls, Grandpa not
- 1:06:40so much. But now which want to get her own way. Suddenly she
- 1:06:43shown him everything. She she trying to lay the guilt trip, saying,
- 1:06:45I was always cheering for you. Give me one example, buddy, one
- 1:06:48example down built exactly the same face as though in that name was like is
- 1:06:53he though, yeah, it's not exactly the same face. Seriously, it's
- 1:06:58just terrible the way this was handed. And the next fight, Grandpa he
- 1:07:00seems distracted, and then he releases the balls. He sees the light,
- 1:07:04he sees the positives and situation. He's like, no, this can't happen.
- 1:07:08This is ridiculous. Let's all the balls out. And then this is
- 1:07:11like, I guess Grandpa sat them all free. Why would you think that?
- 1:07:15What made it think that? Anyway? But then I did like the
- 1:07:20ball getting on the elevator and going up to see the guy in the commentator
- 1:07:24of Booth's stupid but funny. And then they take out gil Luigi was taking
- 1:07:30that as well. He's Luis's walking around with some fresh veal. And then
- 1:07:33Grandpa and Lisa are just randomly floating in chairs with balloons. I missed that,
- 1:07:38but did By the way, did you catch the there was a swartzwelder
- 1:07:40cameo? No, I didn't see that. Where was he? Oh,
- 1:07:42there's a running sort of the balls the ball tore chasing people down the street.
- 1:07:45And I'm pretty sure he's on the left with the long hair and the
- 1:07:46hat and the glasses. Okay, did you not see the end of with
- 1:07:50Lisa and Grandpa and the sky with the balloons in the chair the end of
- 1:07:54the episode. I must have missed that. I don't How did I miss
- 1:07:56that? At the very end, Grandpa and Lisa were up in the sky
- 1:08:00on chairs with balloons, much like the up house. And then the bulls
- 1:08:01float up with balloons as well, and he goes, oh, did you
- 1:08:04not see the end of the episode. I honestly don't recall that, and
- 1:08:06I'm sure I watch the episode because I went to the Yeah, because I
- 1:08:10saw I saw the bit over the closing credits with him and like um testifying
- 1:08:14at the anti communist hearings. How did I miss that bit? It must
- 1:08:16have been paying attention. Yeah, so, and with Grandpa and Lisa in
- 1:08:19the sky sitting on a like chairs with balloons attached to floating in the sky,
- 1:08:24and He'll be like, ah, thanks Grandpa for finally doing this,
- 1:08:27and then bulls float up in the sky with angry faces on balloons, and
- 1:08:30Grandpa's like, oh, Dan, I assure you I watched this episode.
- 1:08:34I think the fact that I've point it out, you know, beats from
- 1:08:40this episode would indicate that I had. I honestly don't remember that, and
- 1:08:43I watched it not that long ago. What the hell was going on?
- 1:08:46Did you? What? Did you watch it on Disney Plants or on the
- 1:08:48discs or Disney Plus? Yeah, Okay, I'm gonna go I'm gonna go
- 1:08:53back and rewatch it on Disney Plants or rewatch the last bit because that bit.
- 1:08:58Honestly, I do not recall. But the bit of the credits was
- 1:09:01just where was that from? That? Did I miss something? It's like,
- 1:09:03that's not no relation to this episode. I don't think so, I'm
- 1:09:08like at all, where would this a fit in? I don't get it.
- 1:09:11Yeah, it's got no relevance and no relation to anything that happens in
- 1:09:14this episode. This was such a bizarre episode. This was so weird.
- 1:09:18Yeah, and so not good. No, so not good? Sound good?
- 1:09:26That was? That was? That was? Yeah, I don't know,
- 1:09:29I fail on the Simpsons part. This maybe maybe drum me if you
- 1:09:34will, maybe in my top ten worst episodes I've seen to date doing this
- 1:09:38podcast pretty bad, it's no good. I'm gonna say, I'm going to
- 1:09:43agree with you. It's yeah, it was unnecessarily pointless and morbid and yeah
- 1:09:47from a joke, Yeah, from a joke perspective and a human perspective and
- 1:09:50all the kinds like, no, it failed quite miserably. Yeah, but
- 1:09:55in other terms, it's like, yeah, you had something you could do
- 1:09:57here, but you did it all wrong and just all over the shop like
- 1:10:00a bloody mad dog shit, a mad dog shit from this knee forward your
- 1:10:09name, droll me okay, mister Davis, it is time for the new
- 1:10:12name championship here for season seventeen million dollars abe. The current leaderboard stands at
- 1:10:16this In first position we have Luke mcalon thirteen points. In second position we
- 1:10:21have Adam Moorehouse on ten points, and in third position we have Kyle Muldoon
- 1:10:26and Garrod Harrowhill both on nine points. So hit me, what are the
- 1:10:30one two three four this week? Oh? Are we doing four points as
- 1:10:34well? One two three four this week? Oh? My goodness, hand
- 1:10:38me confused for a second. That's but let's keep it to one two three
- 1:10:42old gold, silver and bronze and one point goes to matter dope, matter
- 1:10:47dough. That is from Justin Williams. Now. Is that Justin's first time
- 1:10:50on the leaderboard. I don't know whether it is. No, Justin is
- 1:10:54now on three points. Why I'm Justin? That name sounded none for me
- 1:10:57to me. Well done, Justin, welcome to the league. Yeah,
- 1:11:00nice work. Two points for Aging Bull. Oh that's awesome. That is
- 1:11:08a great title. Of course, it's from a man. Mark Boston Burgess
- 1:11:11Point is wearing that leader board as well. Mark Boston now on six points,
- 1:11:15halfway, there's a first position. You're halfway their buddy, well done,
- 1:11:18well downe Mark Boston Burgess. But three points for signor citizen signior citizen.
- 1:11:26That's actually even better and that is from one Heath Appleby Wow, that's
- 1:11:31Heath. Oh not quite first, So okay. So Luke McKay is still
- 1:11:34in first position thirteen points, but that now means with Heath getting that three
- 1:11:39points, Heath is now tied for second position on ten points, with Adam
- 1:11:43Moorhouse and Garrod and Kyle still just one point behind them on nine. So
- 1:11:46it's a two weight. It's a tie for second and tie for third as
- 1:11:49well. Oh, very nice. How do you like them? Applebee's very
- 1:11:54good stuff? Deail here? All right? First question it comes from you've
- 1:12:00guessed at Andrew JP. Andrew says, if you could have any sporting team
- 1:12:04join an existing competition, who were to be and in what competition? I'd
- 1:12:08love to see the a Canberra team in either the BBL or the NBL.
- 1:12:13So who won't a Gelong team in, assuming that they would be a half
- 1:12:16decent. Well, I'm at last just been getting back into the Supercats because
- 1:12:20he loves basketball. Alliott Oh Yeah, So I've been out to Supercats games
- 1:12:24and things like that, so I'm sort of like starting to follow the NBL
- 1:12:26a bit more again. Um, but so we already have an MBL team
- 1:12:30them and in the NBA would be pretty cool, but obviously that's not going
- 1:12:33to happen. We're kind of got a cricket team with the who is it
- 1:12:36that the it's the Red BBL team, It's Melbourne. It's a Melbourne team,
- 1:12:42but they basically like associated with because there's two Melbourne teams and one of
- 1:12:45them is associated with Geelong. You know what I'm talking? Who are they?
- 1:12:47I don't follow cricket enough to be able to I don't have a single
- 1:12:50solidary cloth. Yeah, we have a melbourn team that's associated with Gelong,
- 1:12:55so we're kind of got to geln team. I don't know what about you,
- 1:12:57like, what's what's sports? What sports are you into? Besides AF
- 1:13:00I was quite into basketball for a while. I mean, the Supercats had
- 1:13:03a real moment the son back in the back in the eighties, and the
- 1:13:10late great Bobby Davis, My father was associated with him to some degree.
- 1:13:15He was he was very close with a guy who was sort of a bit
- 1:13:18of a power breaker with Gelong basketball such as it was, so we'd go
- 1:13:21to a lot of games, got to hang out with some of the players.
- 1:13:26The great Cal Bruton he was He wasn't a tall guy, but he
- 1:13:30was a fucking fantastic baller. He was really, really good. There was
- 1:13:33a guy called James Coroford. It was fantastic and a huge white dude.
- 1:13:38These were all American guys. These are all imports named Jim Town and Jim
- 1:13:44I got along famously for some reason. I mean, he was looking back
- 1:13:46and he was probably only in his early twenties or the thing. He's probably
- 1:13:49fresh out of college. And I was his little weakness, little um,
- 1:13:53you know, teenage kid who was probably came up to about his kneecout.
- 1:13:56But I used to give him shit all the time. For some reason.
- 1:13:58I did just figured that I'm not not in a sort of a snarky way,
- 1:14:02but I'd tease him a bit. I know, for some reason.
- 1:14:04Have you ever met someone you just know you can take the piss out of
- 1:14:08them and they'll kind of dig it, or you know, you can get
- 1:14:11up yeah, and then sometimes sometimes you take it that a little bit too
- 1:14:14far and you're like, ah man, and then you get picked up and
- 1:14:17putting a bin. Yeah, I don't know that that didn't. You're supposed
- 1:14:20to be cool. Man's supposed to take This is all I got, man,
- 1:14:27this is all feelings. But no, I mean I used to go
- 1:14:32to see the Supercats all the time and I thought they were fantastic. So
- 1:14:34um, all due respect to the current Supercats, I'm sorry, I'm not
- 1:14:40really paying much attention to your prow West, but I think it'd be great
- 1:14:43if Gelong basketball got a bit more of a resurgence. Yes, one hundred
- 1:14:45percent, because it needs to, because you go to games and like they're
- 1:14:48playing okay, the super Cats, but and you think, like Geelong,
- 1:14:53how do we not have a team that's more importantly? You feel like when
- 1:14:55you're in Geelong, it's all about the football team. You very rarely see
- 1:14:58the super Cat per murdered anyway anymore. Used to be like giant billboards over
- 1:15:01to roundtown the super Cats, and it's like you wouldn't even know that we
- 1:15:04even have a team anymore. I feel like we're just walking around town and
- 1:15:08things like that. It's really weird. But what would do one more question?
- 1:15:10Because' been going really long in this episode. This one here is focused
- 1:15:15Jeffs. Do you have any funny or embarrassing sports stories from days gone by?
- 1:15:19Have any funny stories from going to the footy with your dad or anything
- 1:15:21like that. I didn't really go all that often, although I remember when
- 1:15:29I was very very young. I don't know why this guy, but I
- 1:15:32was with my sister ed ween and she's the one closest to me in age,
- 1:15:36and we were in the outer. It's good, good to be in
- 1:15:40the outer every once in a while. For some reason, some guy was
- 1:15:44dissing our dad. I don't know why. I mean, Dad wasn't really
- 1:15:48involved. He wasn't playing. Oh he wouldn't been playing well, no,
- 1:15:51I mean I was born after he started. He finished coaching a little.
- 1:15:58But for some reason, yeah, I think he Maybe Dad was on the
- 1:16:00radio or something on three g L, the home of home of football,
- 1:16:03and yes, guy said something when it was not backwards back, that's our
- 1:16:09dad you're talking about. I'm sorry, kids, I've made a girl man
- 1:16:15cry so but embarrassing sports serves myself and look, I'm sure i've got some.
- 1:16:24I mean, just you know, general fuck ups from when you think
- 1:16:28you should you'd be trying to look sort of cool or proficient in what you're
- 1:16:32doing, and said, you just mess up. I used to row,
- 1:16:34you know, like you've said this before. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:38And the worst thing that can happen when you row is then called catching a
- 1:16:42crab. When you're you're putting your raw forward and it gets caught in the
- 1:16:48water and sort of comes reverbing back at you and it hits you in the
- 1:16:50ribs and it can just you know, it sucks up your whole race.
- 1:16:55It fucks you up. And yeah, that happened to me once. It
- 1:16:57almost knocked me out of the boat. It was just why is it called
- 1:17:00catching crab? Where's the relation to crabs? Um? It's like you you
- 1:17:05all goes in a bit too deep and you can't get it out in time.
- 1:17:09Okay, I'm just thinking someone's just thrown crabs it, Yeah, don't
- 1:17:13catch them. They probably should do that. Yeah, I want to break
- 1:17:17position cheese kind of like bombardment, but just crabs. I M I broke
- 1:17:23my wrist once playing football and remember when I was on the ground, it
- 1:17:27was like under fourteen, So like you're at that age where you know you're
- 1:17:30not an adult, but you kind of feel like you're a grown up.
- 1:17:32You know. I'm fourteen now. Anyway, I broken wrists. I remember
- 1:17:36my mom yell at my boys hurt, and I was like, oh no,
- 1:17:41Mom, don't do it. And and then I had this guy say
- 1:17:44you can't go out in the ground. Man, you cannot go out in
- 1:17:46the ground. And I remember just laying on the ground here and my mom
- 1:17:49going, you can't stop me from getting to my son. And Mom just
- 1:17:53like ran out in the field. The game had to stop, and I'm
- 1:17:55like, oh my god, obviously had a broken wrist. But I was
- 1:18:00just like coming off. Mum's like walking off with me. I'm just like,
- 1:18:01Ohm, leave me alone. I'm like walking off the ground. She's
- 1:18:05walking me off the ground, my mum. Your mom's like mel Gibson the
- 1:18:10ransom, give me my alrighty, Well, that is a mailbag four million
- 1:18:15dollars. Abe. As you said, guys, this was not a great
- 1:18:18episode. Even when we go back and went through it all usually gets a
- 1:18:20little bit better. No, I think this one might have got worse.
- 1:18:23This one's just not a good one at all. But we'd love to hear
- 1:18:26your thoughts. Send them in Simpson's Mailbag at gmail dot com. Don't forget

- 1:18:45No, I just gotta go because it's time for this old man to beat meat.
