- 0:24Speaker 1: Ladies, gentlemen, theyse and them's. It is day four of
- 0:29Speaker 1: the third annual Halloween Week here at Wicked and Grim.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So far you have been graced with the story of
- 0:39Speaker 1: the paranormal with a strange and unexpected haunted object. You
- 0:44Speaker 1: have been mesmerized with the tale of a prolific UFO
- 0:48Speaker 1: sighting that seems to almost confirm the age old question
- 0:54Speaker 1: of are we alone in this universe? And last episode,
- 1:00Speaker 1: to top things off, there was the true crime tale
- 1:04Speaker 1: of the Lady in the Lake.
- 1:08Speaker 2: What a way to begin.
- 1:09Speaker 1: The Halloween season. If only there was something that could
- 1:14Speaker 1: be done to make things even better. How about a game? Yes,
- 1:23Speaker 1: let's play a game. Today your host will present you
- 1:31Speaker 1: with three urban legends, tales from history around the world,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and it is your job to figure out which ones
- 1:39Speaker 1: are based on truth and which ones are simply just
- 1:45Speaker 1: a story. As it is the third annual Halloween Week,
- 1:50Speaker 1: so it is the third annual episode of three Urban Legends.
- 1:58Speaker 1: And now to deliver this episode, I give you you're
- 2:02Speaker 1: ever wonderful hosts of Wiki and Grim, Ben and Nicole.
- 2:09Speaker 3: This is my favorite Halloween Week episode. Three Urban Legends
- 2:16Speaker 3: definitely calls for a bevy.
- 2:18Speaker 2: It certainly does. Cheers, cheers.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I love fun One. I think it's a fan favorite,
- 2:24Speaker 3: to be honest.
- 2:25Speaker 2: It is. Everyone's always hyped about the urban legends. But
- 2:28Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest right now, I don't know how
- 2:31Speaker 2: many more years I can keep up the urban legends.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Oh you were saying that that's so sad.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I'm going to keep going as long as I possibly can. However,
- 2:38Speaker 2: researching urban legends is not easy because they're they're exactly
- 2:43Speaker 2: that urban legends, So ninety five to ninety nine percent
- 2:47Speaker 2: of them are like, oh, there's a story that's hundreds
- 2:50Speaker 2: of years old of a ghost, or there's stories hundreds
- 2:53Speaker 2: of years old of a haunted place, or stories that's
- 2:57Speaker 2: thousands of years old of creature. You're out in the
- 3:00Speaker 2: bush and there's no evidence on anything. So it's like
- 3:03Speaker 2: trying to find stories that sound plausible and are not
- 3:08Speaker 2: real and stories that are actually real with evidence is
- 3:12Speaker 2: not a very easy feat.
- 3:14Speaker 3: But I believe in you. I think you can do it.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Maybe I should just do like, is Santa Claus real?
- 3:20Speaker 2: And that'll be one technically, yes, that would be real,
- 3:23Speaker 2: because I mean Saint Nick, right, Santa Claus is real?
- 3:27Speaker 2: You heard it? Here first. So that's four Urban Legends
- 3:31Speaker 2: we're covering today because that's our fourth There.
- 3:34Speaker 3: You go, Okay, I am pumped.
- 3:36Speaker 2: You're pumped.
- 3:37Speaker 3: I don't have a notebook. I need to take notes.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It might not be a bad idea, really really, oh shit,
- 3:42Speaker 2: I was kind of kidding. No, it's always good to
- 3:44Speaker 2: take notes in the Urban Legends. And if you guys
- 3:46Speaker 2: haven't listened to the Urban Legends episode before, it is
- 3:50Speaker 2: much different than any episode we ever do any other
- 3:52Speaker 2: time of the year. There's a lot more bantering back
- 3:55Speaker 2: and forth because we are trying well, I know the answers.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Nicole's going to be trying to work it out. I'm
- 4:00Speaker 2: going to try and like help guide her a little
- 4:01Speaker 2: bit without giving anything away. So this is not so
- 4:06Speaker 2: much a whole lot of storytelling. I mean a little bit,
- 4:08Speaker 2: because I have three stories to tell, but not a
- 4:10Speaker 2: whole lot of like super dive diving deep into stuff.
- 4:13Speaker 2: It's just seeing if we can get Nicole and you
- 4:15Speaker 2: guys to figure it out.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Last year, I nailed it. I'm pretty sure, did you.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I meant to look back, but I'm pretty dang sure
- 4:23Speaker 3: I did. I don't think I don't think I did.
- 4:26Speaker 3: The previous year though.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Okay, well, I am switching it up just a little
- 4:30Speaker 2: bit from previous years. I think the first year it
- 4:32Speaker 2: was like two truths and a false, and then it
- 4:34Speaker 2: was like too false and a truth. This time, I'm
- 4:38Speaker 2: not telling you how many true or how many false.
- 4:41Speaker 2: You have to guess which ones are true and which
- 4:44Speaker 2: ones are false.
- 4:46Speaker 3: That's bullshit.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I will tell you there are both true and false
- 4:53Speaker 2: urban legends within this.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Okay, so they're all like all false or.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Like there's at least one of each that is blooney.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I am not impressed with that new uh.
- 5:06Speaker 2: You got you got to twisted a little bit, although
- 5:09Speaker 2: to be fair, I did fail to be fair. I
- 5:12Speaker 2: did contemplate the idea of not saying anything like that,
- 5:17Speaker 2: just being like, oh, yeah, like you have to figure
- 5:20Speaker 2: out what's what, and then yeah, just being like all
- 5:22Speaker 2: of them are false and none.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Of there's I could see doing something like that for me.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I thought of it, but i'd be too mean to
- 5:28Speaker 2: mean next year, right, maybe maybe next year, because like
- 5:33Speaker 2: I said, it's really difficult to find urban legend cases
- 5:35Speaker 2: with any weight behind them whatsoever.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Hmm, yeah, okay, so just you're just making it a
- 5:41Speaker 3: bit more difficult, so for me as well. Well, yeah,
- 5:46Speaker 3: it's difficult for you so much to make it difficult
- 5:48Speaker 3: for everyone else.
- 5:48Speaker 2: It's supposed to be a game.
- 5:50Speaker 3: You heard jack ob it's fun. No, Jacko did awesome there?
- 5:53Speaker 2: Okay, well are you ready to dive into it? Yes?
- 6:01Speaker 2: I was taking off Okay, sorry, and then I was coughing.
- 6:05Speaker 3: We got our shit together over here big time?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Oh clearly. I actually I kind of do because I
- 6:09Speaker 2: have a bowl candy next to me.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Can't be eating while you're doing this, Ben, But.
- 6:12Speaker 2: There's Reese's Pieces. There's a bowl of Halloween candy.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Also pick up New Halloween County because that Halloween County
- 6:18Speaker 3: kind of sucks.
- 6:19Speaker 2: It kind of is because we ate all the good stuff.
- 6:21Speaker 3: You ate all the good stuff.
- 6:23Speaker 2: We okay, I am part of we.
- 6:25Speaker 3: You're not eating Halloween candy on the podcast Let's go here?
- 6:30Speaker 2: Oh my god, I am most definitely eating Halloween candy.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Unbelievable. Oh now, rip please, you're like I have one?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, we're going to get into this. So the
- 6:41Speaker 2: very first urban legend that we have is I don't
- 6:46Speaker 2: want to say the title of it because it's going
- 6:47Speaker 2: to give away like the story of it. So I'll
- 6:48Speaker 2: tell the title at the end of the story.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Sounds good.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Okay. So the first urban legend in this one, we
- 6:55Speaker 2: head to a Wendy's restaurant somewhere in the United States
- 6:58Speaker 2: of America.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Oh, I like Wendy's in the early two thousands, okay, okay, okay.
- 7:03Speaker 2: So a woman and her husband decide, you know what, they're
- 7:05Speaker 2: gonna go grab bite to eat. I don't know if
- 7:07Speaker 2: it was for dinner, for lunch, whatever, but they go
- 7:09Speaker 2: and decide that they're gonna sit down order something, and
- 7:13Speaker 2: the woman decides that she's gonna get a nice hot
- 7:15Speaker 2: bowl of chili, which, love me a good bowl of chili,
- 7:17Speaker 2: So amen to that.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Have you ever had the Wendy's chili?
- 7:20Speaker 2: Though I have not at Wendy's, I can't say, Hey,
- 7:23Speaker 2: I haven't. I don't think i'd ever eat like a
- 7:25Speaker 2: fast food Chili's. Probably no, I don't think I have,
- 7:30Speaker 2: because I'm like, I'm a bit of a chili snob.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Okay.
- 7:33Speaker 2: There's good chili and there's bad chili, and I want
- 7:36Speaker 2: to stick with good chili.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I definitely have because I used to work at Timmy's,
- 7:39Speaker 3: so i'd have chili.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Tuo che lunch. For any non Canadians, Timmys is Tim Horton's.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you can tell where we live. Anyways, So
- 7:49Speaker 2: they're sitting here at the restaurant. They're eating their meal.
- 7:52Speaker 2: The woman's eating a bowl of chili, and as she's eating,
- 7:56Speaker 2: she takes a big bite full and she bites down
- 7:59Speaker 2: onto something art and chewy. Oh gosh, okay, so she
- 8:03Speaker 2: spit it out to get a look at which she
- 8:05Speaker 2: had just attempted to eat, and to her utter shock,
- 8:08Speaker 2: she just spat out a severed human finger from the chili.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Holy shit. The finger was partially cooked and clearly been
- 8:19Speaker 2: sitting in the chili pot for a while. Oh wow,
- 8:21Speaker 2: I scooped out and served to her.
- 8:25Speaker 3: That is really, really, really disgusting.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so this is the Wendy's finger in chili is
- 8:33Speaker 2: the first one, that's the first legend.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Can I just say a side note, I'm pretty sure
- 8:38Speaker 3: this has legitly happened. But at McDonald's they had like
- 8:41Speaker 3: those those like turnover things or whatever.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Those like apple turnovers.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yeah, and wasn't there a mouse baked into one of
- 8:48Speaker 3: those one time?
- 8:49Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe pretty.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Sure that happened unless that was just one of my nightmares.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Who knows, it could have been that too.
- 8:54Speaker 2: There was I almost did this one, but I don't know.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Maybe I should not talk about it because it could
- 8:58Speaker 2: happen next year. Now I'll talk about it now, fuck.
- 9:01Speaker 3: It, No, you need to save it.
- 9:03Speaker 2: No, it's all good.
- 9:04Speaker 3: So I saw all your fault. Next year, if you
- 9:05Speaker 3: can't do it, then well.
- 9:06Speaker 2: What if I just forget and I do it anyways? Okay,
- 9:10Speaker 2: I'm not gonna talk about it. Maybe it'll happen next year.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I won't say it.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Okay, I have my I think I know what I'm
- 9:15Speaker 3: going to say for this one. But okay, we'll save them.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Tell the end.
- 9:17Speaker 2: You're going to save to the end. Yeah, okay, okay, okay.
- 9:20Speaker 2: So the next urban legend we got is this one
- 9:25Speaker 2: I can I can tell you because it's not like
- 9:27Speaker 2: a super giveaway by any means. It talks about it
- 9:29Speaker 2: right away. This is a legend of the Green Children
- 9:33Speaker 2: of Woolpits. Okay. So this one actually dates back to
- 9:36Speaker 2: the twelfth century England in the village of Woolpit in Suffolk.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Okay.
- 9:43Speaker 2: So, according to this story, one day the villagers of
- 9:46Speaker 2: Woolpit were out and about and someone discovered two children
- 9:51Speaker 2: on the edge of the nearby forest. The children, a
- 9:54Speaker 2: brother and sister, had a strong green tinge to their skin,
- 9:59Speaker 2: and they or very strange, kind of foreign looking clothing.
- 10:03Speaker 2: They spoke a language that was completely unfamiliar to the villagers,
- 10:07Speaker 2: and the children refused to heat anything except for raw broadbeans.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Oh okay. The children appeared to be quite disoriented and frightened,
- 10:17Speaker 2: and over time they adapted to the new surroundings, being
- 10:19Speaker 2: able to eat regular food, and the strong green tinge
- 10:24Speaker 2: to their skin gradually faded. However, the boy unfortunately fell
- 10:28Speaker 2: ill and died shortly after the discovery, so it was
- 10:30Speaker 2: more of the girl that had survived going on. Eventually, though,
- 10:35Speaker 2: the girl did learn to speak English, and she explained
- 10:38Speaker 2: that they come from They came from a place called
- 10:41Speaker 2: Saint Martin's Land, where she exclaimed the sun never shone
- 10:46Speaker 2: and everything was green there, and according to her account,
- 10:51Speaker 2: they were hurting their father's cattle when they suddenly heard
- 10:54Speaker 2: a loud noise and found themselves in the area of Woolpit.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, and sorry, I mnd have even miss this.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I am paying attention here, but did you say how
- 11:07Speaker 3: far the distance between these were.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Or not yet between what?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Sorry, between where they ended up and where they should be.
- 11:13Speaker 2: They don't know where Saint Martin's Land is. Oh, okay,
- 11:16Speaker 2: that's where the kids claim they were from. From Saint
- 11:17Speaker 2: Martin's Okay, they don't know what that is. So the
- 11:21Speaker 2: girl ended up, like I said, the green kind of
- 11:23Speaker 2: faded from her skin. She kind of learned English and
- 11:25Speaker 2: kind of integrated into the the town. Yeah, she was baptized.
- 11:30Speaker 2: She was eventually named Agnes, and she would marry a
- 11:35Speaker 2: man from kings Lynn, nearby town, and lived a relative,
- 11:39Speaker 2: relatively normal life after that.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Wow.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Interesting, So that is the urban legend of the Green
- 11:48Speaker 2: Children of Woolpit.
- 11:50Speaker 3: And what was the title of the Wendy's one?
- 11:54Speaker 2: I don't know. I just just finger in Chili. I
- 12:00Speaker 2: can't kind of name these.
- 12:01Speaker 3: I guess, Okay, Okay, the titles.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Aren't a specific title, like you look it up, you'll
- 12:05Speaker 2: find several different titles, right, you know that's fair, okay,
- 12:08Speaker 2: kind of just my own titles.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I definitely have a thought for that one too, Okay.
- 12:12Speaker 2: And you're not going to tell us our thoughts, your
- 12:14Speaker 2: thoughts till the end here.
- 12:17Speaker 3: No, we could no, because I want to hear all
- 12:19Speaker 3: of them and then like give my final opinion, because
- 12:23Speaker 3: what happens if I also think this one is the
- 12:26Speaker 3: same as what I think the other ones and I'm
- 12:28Speaker 3: fucked and I got to change one of them. Does
- 12:30Speaker 3: that make sense?
- 12:31Speaker 2: Okay? Okay? Well this last one again, I'm not going
- 12:35Speaker 2: to give the title because it kind of gives away
- 12:38Speaker 2: the story itself. But in this urban legend, it's one
- 12:41Speaker 2: of a man who worked in a downtown high rise building.
- 12:45Speaker 2: He had a very good sense of humor about him,
- 12:47Speaker 2: and he liked to prank some of the new people
- 12:49Speaker 2: in the office building. And what he would do would
- 12:52Speaker 2: be he pranked them by running at top speed and
- 12:55Speaker 2: throwing his body at the glass of one of the
- 12:58Speaker 2: top floors in the building.
- 13:00Speaker 3: What do you mean?
- 13:01Speaker 2: So he's inside the building right, so like a tall
- 13:06Speaker 2: with the glass and looking outside. Run he would run
- 13:09Speaker 2: and just jump at the glass and.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Like botty check that is that is something?
- 13:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's sorry. Little did the spectators know watching him
- 13:18Speaker 2: run at the glass and jump into it like that
- 13:20Speaker 2: that The building was fitted with like a really strong
- 13:22Speaker 2: glass and the man did this on a regular basis
- 13:24Speaker 2: as a gag to new people in the building, knowing that, like,
- 13:27Speaker 2: you know, the glass is really strong, He's not going
- 13:29Speaker 2: to go anywhere. He's fine, right, So what he would
- 13:32Speaker 2: do is he'd run at the glass, hit it hard,
- 13:34Speaker 2: bounce off, and was completely fine, while the onlookers in
- 13:37Speaker 2: the office had clearly a shock of a lifetime.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Uh huh.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Well, one day the man was performing the stunt when
- 13:43Speaker 2: he ran at the glasses always and hit it. However,
- 13:46Speaker 2: today he didn't bounce off, the glass shattered, instead sending
- 13:51Speaker 2: him falling twenty four stories to the payment in the
- 13:53Speaker 2: streets below, killing him.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, I mean, honestly, that's not surprising to me.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but okay, and that is your third urban legend.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Because I mean that super sucks and there could be
- 14:08Speaker 3: like a lawsuit for that. But like, also, what the
- 14:11Speaker 3: fuck was he doing with his life choices?
- 14:14Speaker 2: Holy shit?
- 14:15Speaker 3: I mean, like I'm really sorry, but like that, like,
- 14:18Speaker 3: don't do that. That's that's I don't know.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Well, some people out there who listen, I've talked about
- 14:25Speaker 2: this in the show before are where I had a
- 14:28Speaker 2: career in occupational health and safety. You don't do that shit.
- 14:32Speaker 2: That is dangerous. That is blatant disregard for your own
- 14:35Speaker 2: But yeah, you.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Could almost be charged like with what's the word? Like
- 14:42Speaker 3: it's kind of you, neigen, because like who the fuck
- 14:45Speaker 3: does that? Okay, I I think this is gonna be
- 14:50Speaker 3: easy for me. I have like easy. I'm almost overly confident,
- 14:56Speaker 3: so I'm probably gonna get my ass handed to me.
- 14:59Speaker 3: But yeah, I have thoughts.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Okay, Well, let's start with the first one, the finger
- 15:04Speaker 2: in the chili one. What are you thinking on that?
- 15:06Speaker 2: Break it down for us?
- 15:07Speaker 3: I think that one is false. I think it's false,
- 15:10Speaker 3: A big false.
- 15:11Speaker 2: A big false. Why do you think it's a big I.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Like Wendy's And I feel like I would have heard
- 15:16Speaker 3: about that happening before, Okay, I mean and yeah, I
- 15:21Speaker 3: mean I think there also would have been more information
- 15:24Speaker 3: too if it was true, because that's kind of a
- 15:27Speaker 3: big deal, and I think we would just know more
- 15:28Speaker 3: shit about it.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I'm just I'm tracking here which one you say false
- 15:33Speaker 2: and true? Force I'm typing just.
- 15:35Speaker 3: I was like, what are you writing down?
- 15:38Speaker 2: Just so this way when you go back and like
- 15:40Speaker 2: I said that was true or fault, I've got it
- 15:42Speaker 2: written on what you said you can't back out of
- 15:44Speaker 2: the shit.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, I'm going to go with false for that one.
- 15:47Speaker 2: For show, Nicole says false on the finger in the
- 15:50Speaker 2: Chili one.
- 15:50Speaker 3: I mean, I honestly really hope that's false because that
- 15:53Speaker 3: would be so disturbing if it was true. Yeah, I
- 15:55Speaker 3: don't think I would actually ever eat at Wendy's again,
- 15:58Speaker 3: which is so shitty.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Reasonable, that's a reasonable response.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I like Wendy's.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Okay, Well, what do you think about the children of
- 16:05Speaker 2: Woolpit the green children.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Of rob I'm also thinking that one is false false, Okay, yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 3: because I mean it kind of makes sense that their
- 16:16Speaker 3: skin could turn a different color from just like what
- 16:21Speaker 3: they were eating, or if they were not getting some
- 16:25Speaker 3: sort of nutrients right that they need it.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Yep.
- 16:27Speaker 3: But I haven't ever heard of green, but that could
- 16:30Speaker 3: just be me. Also, I thought it was interesting that
- 16:35Speaker 3: this place never saw the sun, but everything was green there.
- 16:39Speaker 3: But I don't know, maybe that's just me being fucked.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Things can be green without the sun. Probably.
- 16:44Speaker 2: No. I like your train of thought here. You're you're
- 16:46Speaker 2: really working on it. You're actually trying to think of
- 16:48Speaker 2: it in a realistic sense, which is kind of what
- 16:51Speaker 2: you generally have to do with urban legends.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Yeah, so that one. And then also I just I
- 16:56Speaker 3: don't know. It just seems really far fetched to me
- 16:58Speaker 3: because how far did they wander off? And I don't know,
- 17:02Speaker 3: so I'm saying I'm saying false.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Okay. And the final one, the man who broke through
- 17:06Speaker 2: the glass of the building and fell to his death.
- 17:09Speaker 3: True, you say true, I have to say true for
- 17:12Speaker 3: one of them.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Oh, that's right, because you said false.
- 17:14Speaker 3: And that one seems the most believable to me.
- 17:16Speaker 2: It seems the most believable.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Hey, yeah, because I don't have very much faith in
- 17:20Speaker 3: humanity and so like I can just actually see that
- 17:23Speaker 3: potentially happening and yeah, okay, well, and I'm sorry to
- 17:30Speaker 3: say if it did happen like that, super socks and
- 17:32Speaker 3: I'm so sorry that person died, but also like, don't
- 17:35Speaker 3: do that.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Yeah, fair enough. Okay, So which one do you want
- 17:39Speaker 2: to hear about first? Which one should we go over?
- 17:41Speaker 3: Let's just do it in order order, or you pick,
- 17:44Speaker 3: you pick just in case you.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Okay, No, we'll go in order. That's fine. So we're
- 17:48Speaker 2: starting up with the finger in the chili.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:51Speaker 2: So Nicole says, this one is false. And I'll give you, guys,
- 17:54Speaker 2: just a moment to lock in your answer and what
- 17:57Speaker 2: you think. Okay, I'll give you like a three two
- 17:59Speaker 2: one counter lock it in, ready, three two one, Okay,
- 18:03Speaker 2: your final thoughts on it. The finger in the chili
- 18:07Speaker 2: is true? Oh shit, it's a true story.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Seriously.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Is a twist to it though. So. In two thousand
- 18:19Speaker 2: and five, a woman by the name of Anna I
- 18:22Speaker 2: think it's Ayala and Ayala, She made headlines after claiming
- 18:28Speaker 2: to have found a partially cooked segment of human finger
- 18:32Speaker 2: within the Santo's a restaurant.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Okay, so it probably actually wasn't a dead person. It
- 18:37Speaker 3: was someone that chopped it off maybe in there.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Okay, No, it was a significant finger. Oh it's not
- 18:44Speaker 2: a little tiny piece. It was like a digit, at
- 18:47Speaker 2: least a knuckle. I'm sure it was a large piece
- 18:50Speaker 2: of a finger, like someone's decapitated finger to capitated removed finger.
- 18:55Speaker 2: So the incident dealt a heavy blow to the fast
- 18:58Speaker 2: food chain, resulting from an sestimated of twenty one million
- 19:02Speaker 2: dollars in business loss. And that's US dollars. So in
- 19:07Speaker 2: response million or billion? Sorry million?
- 19:09Speaker 3: Holy shit? Okay.
- 19:11Speaker 2: In a response to this, Joseph Desmond, the local Wendy's
- 19:14Speaker 2: franchise holder, how the press conference in San Jose and
- 19:16Speaker 2: April April twenty second of two thousand and five, urging
- 19:21Speaker 2: customers to return, emphasizing the quality of their food and
- 19:26Speaker 2: offering as a goodwill gesture free Frosty treats for the
- 19:29Speaker 2: Bay Area customers that weekend.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Frosty is like ninety nine cents.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm still They actually extended that to a
- 19:36Speaker 2: nationwide offer. I guess anyone could just go to a
- 19:39Speaker 2: Wendy's in the States at this time and just get
- 19:41Speaker 2: a free Frosty. I guess. Okay, So the investigation over
- 19:47Speaker 2: this revealed that the finger belonged to an individual named
- 19:50Speaker 2: Brian Paul Rustier, a coworker of Anna's husband. So what
- 19:58Speaker 2: had happened was this man, Brian, had lost his finger
- 20:04Speaker 2: in a workplace accident on December of two thousand and
- 20:06Speaker 2: four and sold it to Anna's husband, apparently to settle
- 20:11Speaker 2: a debt, and the information was actually disclosed to the
- 20:15Speaker 2: police through an anonymous call on the Wendy's hotline, and
- 20:19Speaker 2: later traced the finger back to Brian himself. So basically,
- 20:23Speaker 2: she put the finger in the chili herself to try
- 20:29Speaker 2: and get a lawsuit out of Wendy's. You're fucking me dead, serious, serious,
- 20:35Speaker 2: dead fucking serious.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Holy shit, that's bad.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Yeah. So, on September ninth, two thousand and five, in
- 20:43Speaker 2: San Jose, both Anna and her husband Jamie pleaded guilty
- 20:48Speaker 2: to conspiring to file a false claim and attempting grand theft.
- 20:53Speaker 2: She faced felony charges of attempted grand larceny due to
- 20:56Speaker 2: the substantial financial losses suffered by Wendy's.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Well, yeah, does she don't have to pay that back
- 21:03Speaker 3: to them? That's brutal.
- 21:05Speaker 2: She did not.
- 21:05Speaker 3: She would not have that money though, Nope.
- 21:08Speaker 2: So she ended up pleading guilty on September of two
- 21:10Speaker 2: thousand and five and was sentenced to nine years in prison.
- 21:12Speaker 2: On January eighteenth of two thousand and six, she was
- 21:15Speaker 2: released after serving four years due to good behavior, but
- 21:19Speaker 2: with strict conditions. She was banned for life from all
- 21:22Speaker 2: Wendy's locations.
- 21:23Speaker 3: How would they even know?
- 21:25Speaker 2: I know? Right?
- 21:26Speaker 3: So she would drive throughs and stuff.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah. In contrast, her husband, who had supplied the finger,
- 21:32Speaker 2: received a sentence of twelve years and four months in prison.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Oh longer, I'm not too sure if he was released
- 21:38Speaker 2: sooner or not yet though. So after being released, Anna
- 21:44Speaker 2: kind of broke her silence in a news interview with
- 21:47Speaker 2: CBS five, and she publicly apologized to the fast food
- 21:50Speaker 2: chain for making the whole shocking relevation of a revelation.
- 21:54Speaker 2: There we go have a finger in her chili. She
- 21:57Speaker 2: actually even admitted to cooking it a bit her self,
- 22:01Speaker 2: to making it seem like it was in the chili
- 22:02Speaker 2: for longer than it was. Yeah wow, yeah. So she
- 22:08Speaker 2: had confessed that she had actually prepared the ring finger
- 22:11Speaker 2: at her Las Vegas home and then transported it to
- 22:14Speaker 2: San Jose where she dropped it in the chili's at Wendy's.
- 22:18Speaker 2: And in that interview she also stated, quote, I learned
- 22:22Speaker 2: my lesson and I just want to move on with life.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Huh.
- 22:26Speaker 2: So the finger in the fast food chain Wendy's chili
- 22:29Speaker 2: is very much so true. Not due to Wendy's itself,
- 22:33Speaker 2: It was planted by a customer.
- 22:35Speaker 3: I'm like, shook. This one has me absolutely mortified, Like
- 22:42Speaker 3: I am actually, yeah, that is that's unreal, unreal. I
- 22:48Speaker 3: wouldn't I didn't even think that.
- 22:52Speaker 2: You look like you look just shocked. You see a.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Ghost pretty well, because I wouldn't have even thought that
- 22:58Speaker 3: they would have placed that in than the chili themselves.
- 23:01Speaker 3: That's that's shocking.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, So I'm gonna give you one.
- 23:08Speaker 3: I feel like now I'm just fucked and the whole
- 23:10Speaker 3: thing I'm all wrong now.
- 23:11Speaker 2: But I'm gonna give you one chance to change answers
- 23:13Speaker 2: if you'd like. So you said false to the Green
- 23:16Speaker 2: Children of Woolpit, and you said true to breaking through
- 23:21Speaker 2: the glass to fall to his death.
- 23:23Speaker 3: I know I almost want to change that to false
- 23:26Speaker 3: the man one, but then I could be literally zero,
- 23:30Speaker 3: and then I'd be so angry. So I'll be less angry.
- 23:33Speaker 3: I'm just gonna lock them in.
- 23:34Speaker 2: You're locking it in. Yeah, okay, yeah, okay, Well, the
- 23:38Speaker 2: Green Children of Wolpit. Let's move on to that one.
- 23:41Speaker 2: So this is I'll give you guys a countdown so
- 23:45Speaker 2: you can lock in your answer too, ready, three two one,
- 23:50Speaker 2: The Green Children of Wolpit is false.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:54Speaker 2: So the story of Green Children of Wolpit has been
- 23:57Speaker 2: passed down through generation and has basically become a famous
- 24:00Speaker 2: folklore tale. While it is considered a legend, historians and
- 24:04Speaker 2: scholars have debated its origins, and possible explanations. Some theory
- 24:10Speaker 2: suggests that the children might have been Flemish immigrants, refugees,
- 24:14Speaker 2: or lost survivors of nearby famine, either speculate supernatural or
- 24:18Speaker 2: extraterrestrial origins. Although these stories lack any credible evidence, the
- 24:23Speaker 2: true origins of the Green Children a Woolpit remain a
- 24:25Speaker 2: serious mystery because there is no foundation of truth regarding
- 24:29Speaker 2: the tale at all. There is no evidence, no nothing.
- 24:32Speaker 2: It's simply just a tale passed down. It is a folklore.
- 24:36Speaker 2: It is an urban legend.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Okay, okay, okay. I at least got one, so I'm
- 24:41Speaker 3: feeling good. You're feeling good, feeling good?
- 24:44Speaker 2: One for two yeah, so far, so that is like
- 24:49Speaker 2: fifty percent, which is really not so you're either gonna
- 24:52Speaker 2: get thirty three percent or sixty six percent. What did
- 24:57Speaker 2: I say that one was true?
- 25:01Speaker 3: If that one is also true and the Wendy's one
- 25:04Speaker 3: was true, we have a serious.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Problem questioning humanity.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I will be able to not like I
- 25:12Speaker 3: will just that will just put me one step closer
- 25:15Speaker 3: living in the woods. All but well, I guess you
- 25:17Speaker 3: can come to the two of us, thank you, in
- 25:20Speaker 3: the woods, away from everybody.
- 25:22Speaker 2: With our black cat too, wolf dogs and chickens.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Chickens.
- 25:28Speaker 2: I do kind of just want to talk a little
- 25:29Speaker 2: bit on the green children of wolf.
- 25:32Speaker 3: That's my new thing. A gonna have honey.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Apparently Nicole wants to have bees. We already have honey,
- 25:37Speaker 2: she's laying over there. But I did want to talk
- 25:40Speaker 2: about these green children a wolfpit a little bit. I
- 25:43Speaker 2: don't have any other information on it, because I mean
- 25:45Speaker 2: there's there isn't any, but I want to kind of
- 25:48Speaker 2: just theorize a little moment on how their skin could
- 25:51Speaker 2: be potentially green. Okay, So I kind of had an
- 25:54Speaker 2: idea certain people have certain shades to their skin, even
- 26:00Speaker 2: amongst you know, white colored whoever. Right, there's different shades
- 26:03Speaker 2: within each.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Race, like pigments, yes.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Exactly, So there's different pigmentations within each and like I
- 26:11Speaker 2: know me, like on Caucasian, but I do have kind
- 26:14Speaker 2: of an olive tinge to my skin, okay, pink, yeah, yeah,
- 26:19Speaker 2: So it is kind of like a family trait of
- 26:22Speaker 2: mine on my mom's side that kind of olive a
- 26:25Speaker 2: little bit of color to my skin. If you look,
- 26:26Speaker 2: you can kind of see it in there, Okay. And
- 26:29Speaker 2: I'm sure there is a possibility that these maybe Flemish immigrants,
- 26:34Speaker 2: you know, got lost, maybe immigrating or something like that,
- 26:38Speaker 2: had weird, weird clothes their kids. They don't really know
- 26:41Speaker 2: where they came from or anything like that, right, and
- 26:43Speaker 2: they just kind of have a little bit of a
- 26:45Speaker 2: different color to their skin. And of course, back in
- 26:47Speaker 2: those days, every little thing was blown out of proportion.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Oh no, she didn't go to church, she's a witch,
- 26:52Speaker 2: like you know what I mean. Yeah, so it's like, oh, okay,
- 26:55Speaker 2: these kids have a little bit of green to their skin,
- 26:57Speaker 2: Oh my god, what are they?
- 26:59Speaker 3: Because they also didn't speak the same language too, So
- 27:02Speaker 3: then that exactly adding to the miscommunication of everything.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so there is no documentation saying that this is true.
- 27:10Speaker 2: I think if it is true, it is blown out
- 27:12Speaker 2: of proportion crazily. And these kids probably weren't even green.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Who knows, Maybe they just like face planet in the
- 27:19Speaker 2: grass and had a bit grass thing on their forehead
- 27:21Speaker 2: or something like, you.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Know, yeah, they're a bit dirty or something from Yeah.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, so green children to Woolpit, I'm as far
- 27:30Speaker 2: as history knows, is false. But there's a very good
- 27:33Speaker 2: chance that just some children speaking a different language and
- 27:37Speaker 2: slightly different colored skin showed up somewhere. That started it.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Yeah, and then they weren't used to what they were eating,
- 27:44Speaker 3: so that's why they only wanted to eat one thing.
- 27:46Speaker 2: And so the story of the Green Children, though completely false,
- 27:50Speaker 2: but maybe rooted in some facts somewhere we just don't know. Okay,
- 27:54Speaker 2: now onto the man breaking the glass in the high
- 27:58Speaker 2: rise building. Nicoles says, it is true. And I'm going
- 28:03Speaker 2: to give you guys a little bit of a countdown
- 28:05Speaker 2: here too, so you can go ahead and lock in
- 28:08Speaker 2: your answer. You ready, I'm gonna eat a piece of candy. Weill,
- 28:11Speaker 2: I'm doing this?
- 28:12Speaker 3: Wow?
- 28:12Speaker 2: Three? Wait?
- 28:14Speaker 3: What why? During the podcast which Halloween week and Halloween candy?
- 28:21Speaker 2: All good? Ready?
- 28:24Speaker 1: Yep?
- 28:25Speaker 2: Three? Two one, lock in your answer, Nicole says, true,
- 28:29Speaker 2: and the man breaking through the glass and the high
- 28:32Speaker 2: rise building falling to his death is true. Oh okay, yeah,
- 28:38Speaker 2: Nicole was watching my lips, so I lipped like an.
- 28:41Speaker 3: F before I get Yeah.
- 28:44Speaker 2: She was like on the edge of her seat. This
- 28:47Speaker 2: story is very much so a true story.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Wow.
- 28:52Speaker 2: So. A man by the name of Gary Hoy was
- 28:55Speaker 2: a Canadian lawyer and became widely known after a very
- 28:58Speaker 2: tragic incident unfolded in eighteen ninety three. At the time,
- 29:02Speaker 2: he was an experienced attorney working at the law firm
- 29:05Speaker 2: of Holden Day Wilson in Toronto. On July ninth of
- 29:10Speaker 2: nineteen ninety three, during a gathering of summer students at
- 29:14Speaker 2: the firm, Gary attempted to showcase the strength of the
- 29:16Speaker 2: glass in the windows in the Toronto Dominion Center. And
- 29:21Speaker 2: that's where the firm was located. Right, They're in this
- 29:23Speaker 2: high rise building and it's on the twenty fourth floor.
- 29:26Speaker 2: So this stunt he had performed before, nothing new. He's
- 29:30Speaker 2: done this before to get a rise out of people,
- 29:32Speaker 2: get a laugh, get a reaction, throw himself against the window,
- 29:35Speaker 2: and demonstrate its durability. During this particular event, he ran
- 29:39Speaker 2: towards the window on the twenty fourth floor of the
- 29:41Speaker 2: Toronto Dominion Center and hurled himself against the glass. However,
- 29:45Speaker 2: to have one's shock, the glass gave way and he
- 29:49Speaker 2: plummeted twenty four floors to the concrete below to his death.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Oh man, that is so brutal, It.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Very much so. Is so. This story, of course, is
- 30:00Speaker 2: a cautionary tale. Like we can learn a lot from this.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Like how hard is he running clearly significantly intensely.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean this glass it's not made to
- 30:12Speaker 2: do this. No, you don't push limits, and that's that's
- 30:16Speaker 2: what happened. Like this is really underscoring the importance of
- 30:19Speaker 2: workplace safety and responsible conduct in all honesty.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I just want to say really side really
- 30:27Speaker 3: quickly here though, Like it's it's kind of too bad
- 30:29Speaker 3: because he was kind of seems like he's a jokester
- 30:32Speaker 3: and he just wanted like people to be happy and
- 30:35Speaker 3: lack have fun. Yeah, have fun at work or whatever.
- 30:38Speaker 3: And then oh and then that happens brutal.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Yeah. I really feel bad for Gary because, like you say,
- 30:46Speaker 2: he's just trying to have fun, but unfortunately he had
- 30:51Speaker 2: faith in the wrong place in glass that is not
- 30:54Speaker 2: meant to support being shoulder checked over and over again.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Well yeah, like it wasn't the smartest. Did you have
- 31:02Speaker 3: a family and stuff?
- 31:03Speaker 2: I'm not too sure. Okay, No, No, I didn't, like
- 31:06Speaker 2: I said, didn't do deep dives like into these. I
- 31:08Speaker 2: just found out the quick facts on true or false
- 31:11Speaker 2: sort of situation. But I did find that this actually
- 31:14Speaker 2: prompted an increased awareness regarding structural integrity of glass windows
- 31:17Speaker 2: and high rise buildings, which sparked like a whole discussion
- 31:21Speaker 2: on safety protocols and office and public spaces and so
- 31:23Speaker 2: on and so forth, which is good they do. I mean,
- 31:26Speaker 2: it's terrible to say that within safety, all these rules
- 31:30Speaker 2: and regulations are written in blood, because it takes someone
- 31:34Speaker 2: getting hurt or killed to come up with a new
- 31:37Speaker 2: way to keep us safe.
- 31:38Speaker 3: I know. But could you imagine that you're going through
- 31:43Speaker 3: your new employee, you're going through a tour, and they're
- 31:46Speaker 3: just like, oh, yeah, one of the rules is don't
- 31:49Speaker 3: like run up to the window and.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Like body check it.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Yeah, don't you just you be so confused by them. Yep,
- 31:57Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, that's bad.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Yeah, but you did get two or a three? Correct?
- 32:02Speaker 3: I did?
- 32:03Speaker 2: You got sixty six percent? Good job?
- 32:05Speaker 1: Good?
- 32:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel pretty good about that.
- 32:06Speaker 2: I'm curious on how you guys did out there. We're
- 32:08Speaker 2: going to put up a post on our Instagram and Facebook.
- 32:11Speaker 2: We want to hear what you guys said, what you thought,
- 32:14Speaker 2: if you got any wrong, if you've got them all right,
- 32:17Speaker 2: let us know.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean if you've heard of them, because some
- 32:21Speaker 3: people have heard of these things, oh definitely right.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Well, one of those is actually a true crime case.
- 32:27Speaker 2: The finger in the CHILIESE it's you know, or in
- 32:30Speaker 2: the chili not the CHILIESE chili, Wendy's chili.
- 32:33Speaker 3: That one, to me is just disgusting. Yeah, that's not
- 32:37Speaker 3: I mean, I guess if you get desperate enough, people
- 32:41Speaker 3: come up with interesting ideas.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Sometimes that's very much so true.
- 32:47Speaker 3: How much did they have to buy that finger for?
- 32:48Speaker 3: Oh you said it was like he was owed a
- 32:51Speaker 3: favor or something.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Gosh, yeah, he bought it for some sort of debt
- 32:55Speaker 2: or something. That's all I could really find.
- 32:57Speaker 3: So that's even bizarre.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that one kind of got me. How he his
- 33:01Speaker 2: buddy finger chopped off at a work accident or something
- 33:03Speaker 2: like that, in industrial accident, and then he's like, oh guess
- 33:06Speaker 2: i'll buy it off you to settle a debt. What like,
- 33:10Speaker 2: how the fuck does that come about?
- 33:12Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 33:13Speaker 2: Yeah, remember you owe me you have to buy my
- 33:15Speaker 2: severed finger. Oh shit, you're right, here's fifty bucks. A
- 33:20Speaker 2: year later, I'm going to put in Wendy's chili, Like
- 33:24Speaker 2: all right.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Like how I would it even look?
- 33:26Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 33:26Speaker 3: I mean I feel like it'd almost been well, not necessarily,
- 33:30Speaker 3: because who knows how long that chili would have been
- 33:32Speaker 3: like sitting somewhere potentially and ugh, okay, we got to
- 33:36Speaker 3: stop talking about that.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Well, if it makes you feel any better, they did
- 33:39Speaker 2: do analysts on the finger as well, and they did
- 33:42Speaker 2: determine that it was not cooked with the chili because
- 33:44Speaker 2: it wasn't cooked at the right temperatures and stuff. I
- 33:46Speaker 2: don't know if that helps you settle your stomach.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Yeah, well we already know that.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Oh I know, but I'm just saying there was an
- 33:52Speaker 2: extra step of actually analyzing the finger.
- 33:55Speaker 3: They really took it seriously.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're like, oh, yeah, this finger was cooked
- 33:58Speaker 2: differently than the chili because it would have been cooked
- 34:01Speaker 2: with much more because of this temperature and boiling and
- 34:05Speaker 2: like simmering.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Are you doing that on purpose right now?
- 34:08Speaker 2: Yes?
- 34:08Speaker 3: Okay, because I actually feel unwell about this for.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Until you're grabbing onto your mic stand.
- 34:13Speaker 3: I don't know why, but it's just getting to me.
- 34:16Speaker 3: It's getting to.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Me a little good. That's what Halloween week is all about. Okay, Okay, Well, cheers.
