- 0:08Welcome to another episode of Bourbon and Rum.
- 0:11This is a podcast of two brothers from opposite ends of
- 0:15the spectrum. My name's Kent, I'm a rum
- 0:22drinker, and I'm from the left side of the aisle.
- 0:24And I'm Kyle. I, like bourbon, tend to be a
- 0:26little more conservative. Join us as we explore this
- 0:32experiment. Can two brothers from different
- 0:35sides of the political spectrum have a civil conversation and
- 0:39celebrate our differences? Hi everyone, we've got something
- 0:54special to celebrate. Bourbon and rum just turned 1
- 0:59year old and we're raising a glass to you, our listeners, for
- 1:04making it all possible. To say thank you, we're giving
- 1:08away a bourbon and rum mug. Here's how to enter.

- 1:38And cheers to Year 2 of bourbon and rum.
- 1:41What are you drinking? Well, I am drinking an old
- 1:46favorite here a little, EH Taylor Small Batch.
- 1:52And mainly the reason I'm drinking it is a friend of mine
- 1:56was down another part of Texas and said, hey, Specs had a bunch
- 2:00of bottles of the H Taylor. And there's been rumors because
- 2:042016 Buffalo Trace Distillery invested like $1.5 billion to
- 2:10increase production. But you know, it takes years for
- 2:13this stuff to be done. And then at the same time, you
- 2:17know, they say that we're past the peak of bourbon, so demands
- 2:21going down. They made all these investments
- 2:23and there's all this discussion that you're going to start
- 2:26seeing. Well, EH, Taylor's kind of one
- 2:27of those Unicorn bottles that they're really hard to find.
- 2:31Well, I went to our local specs and they had 7 bottles under the
- 2:37checkout place and the guy was like, you want all 7?
- 2:39They're at retail, they're 50 bucks a bottle.
- 2:41And I'm like, I don't think I'll take all 7, but I'll take 2.
- 2:45So I took 2 bottles and I mean that's like all the bourbon
- 2:50lovers dream is you get to the point where your favorite stuff
- 2:54like you could get a bottle and it's not ridiculously priced.
- 2:57But up until now it wasn't uncommon to see these things for
- 3:01hundred $150.00 a bottle. I mean it's good bourbon, but
- 3:05it's good $50 bourbon. It's not 150.
- 3:07Dollars. What may I suggest?
- 3:09Just the nature of human beings that if you can get it
- 3:13everywhere for 50 bucks, it's not going to taste as good.
- 3:16You're going to want the one that you're going to want the
- 3:19the Black Swan. That's 150 bucks a bottle
- 3:23because that inherently tastes better.
- 3:25I don't know if I could get this in the aged in the Eagle Rare.
- 3:30I'd get rid of everything else. I mean, yeah, it there's better
- 3:33ones, but the flavor is really good.
- 3:36Cool. So.
- 3:37What are you drinking on? Well, I don't know because there
- 3:40are powers out. We got no light and so I just
- 3:43grabbed the closest bottle and poured a glass of it.
- 3:46But what I think I've got here is the pineapple rum from
- 3:51Plantar Ray that I've talked about.
- 3:53That's my best guess given the flavor of the rum and I'm
- 3:57drinking it just straight up no ice or anything because, you
- 4:01know, didn't want to open the freezer.
- 4:03So we're we're we're podcasting by candlelight here.
- 4:08Not really candlelight battery powered lamp, but power's out
- 4:11here and we're trying to get by. Well, I thought about you this
- 4:15week 'cause I I texted you, I went to you know, I'm in Texas
- 4:19and Costco here doesn't sell liquor, but I was in Phoenix and
- 4:22they do sell liquor at the Costco and they had a 20 year
- 4:25old Kirkland rum so from Panama. So I picked that up.
- 4:30I don't know what I'm drinking. I tried it but seemed OK, but
- 4:33you'll have to taste it for me and tell me if it's.
- 4:35A I'll have to check our Costco because we do have liquor here,
- 4:39but I haven't seen that. I've seen like the handle of
- 4:42Costco spiced rum and walked past it.
- 4:46But even as we speak, I think that they're wrapping up in
- 4:57Anchorage right now with the summit between Trump and Putin.
- 5:02I'll send you a pick offline, Kyle on my phone.
- 5:07My son who lives in Anchorage, went out to the airport and was
- 5:11watching the Russian diplomats planes land all day yesterday.
- 5:15So and then he was picked up on the front page of the the
- 5:22Anchorage Daily paper. Oh wow, that's awesome.
- 5:25Oh, the one thing that you know. Before we jump into it, I do
- 5:28think it's our producer had mentioned this is one year of
- 5:32the Bourbon and Run podcast, is it not?
- 5:34You are correct. This year has flown by.
- 5:37I could not believe that it was a year that we've done this.
- 5:40And yeah, just to kind of pause on that a little bit, you know,
- 5:48I'm still so flattered and grateful when people reach out
- 5:54and tell me that they listen to. We've got people that you know,
- 5:58some listen all the time, some listen once in a while, but had
- 6:02a couple of family members just the other day ping me and say
- 6:04they listen to our. What?
- 6:07Was that our our three sessions set on the Epstein thing?
- 6:11And we're not done with that, by the way, but I know.
- 6:14There's more to come. Yeah, it's just really
- 6:18meaningful that people would would listen to us and are
- 6:21really a part of it. I guess I would make a pitch,
- 6:24you know, here we are celebrating a year.
- 6:26Reach out on social media or e-mail or whatever.
- 6:29We'd just love to hear from you. What are you?
- 6:31What are you liking about it? If you've stuck with us the
- 6:33whole time, why? What can we do better?
- 6:37Yeah, Now I'm with you. I think, you know, we were
- 6:41talking about whatever favorite episodes and such.
- 6:44And I don't know what I'd love to hear from the audience is, is
- 6:51it better when we vehemently disagree or is it better when we
- 6:54agree? You know, I kind of, I've kind
- 6:57of enjoyed the last couple of weeks, to be honest, where we
- 7:01haven't been wildly apart and we've agreed on a lot of things.
- 7:05But that may not make good for good listening either.
- 7:08That may, you know, it's like, who wants to watch a movie where
- 7:12there's no conflict? I mean, what, everybody's just
- 7:15going to hold hands the whole time.
- 7:17I mean, you know, that doesn't seem very entertaining.
- 7:19We've had a couple. We've never crossed the line.
- 7:22Our our official standard of decency is no F bombs in the
- 7:28podcast. That's right.
- 7:31We had a couple that we had a couple of Oh yeah of discussions
- 7:35that we almost needed the bleep button from the producer to get
- 7:39us through. But.
- 7:41That's an interesting thought adding.
- 7:43Well, I guess you do the bleep after the fact.
- 7:45If only you could do like a live bleep.
- 7:48You just have the button on the computer.
- 7:49When I'm feeling when I'm feeling it, I'll just push the
- 7:52bleep. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:55Hey, I will also. First of all, I have just
- 7:58really, I think I've enjoyed getting to talk to you this
- 8:02frequently more than any other benefit of this thing.
- 8:06It has been really wonderful. I also want to throw a a a bone
- 8:10to the producer. She's incredible.
- 8:14I mean, I mean, I tell you, and we were talking about it last
- 8:18time we were together. I mean, she was telling me about
- 8:21it and I'm like, well, how long does it take in, you know, a few
- 8:24hours? I mean, for a hobby that's a few
- 8:29hours a week. That's a lot.
- 8:31I mean, that's a huge commitment.
- 8:33And it's my hobby. It's not even her.
- 8:35Hobby. Yeah, well, and she's got to
- 8:38listen to these two clowns, I mean.
- 8:41Well, and I also, I don't think, I don't think your spouse has an
- 8:45official job title in the enterprise, but social media
- 8:50manager kind of comes to mind. And we very much appreciate that
- 8:55too. The, the pumping it out over the
- 8:58network. So we're we're really lucky to
- 9:00have good support. Yeah, yeah, it's, you know, it.
- 9:04It's honestly more of a commitment than one might think.
- 9:10I wonder though, like, you know, because she she edits, we'll
- 9:15have long pauses or I'm sure she may, you know, she kind of like
- 9:18speeds it up so it's not done. Sounds so choppy.
- 9:23Yeah, You know, I think maybe I mentioned this before, one of
- 9:26the things that the producer mentioned, she's seen this so
- 9:31many times. Both you and I have certain
- 9:34like, vocal habits and I, I don't even know what it is, but
- 9:39I'm sure I say things like that. Well, on the other hand, you
- 9:43know, like there's all these transitional things, she said.
- 9:47She can tell from looking at the waveform exactly who's talking
- 9:52and where they're talking. That's nuts.
- 9:56And I think she does make use of tools, maybe even a little bit
- 9:59of AI to kind of scrub those awkward silences and kind of cut
- 10:06it down a little bit. Yeah, now that's really helpful.
- 10:09It's been great fun. And now honestly, it's kind of
- 10:14like my passion to figure out how to, I've told you trying to
- 10:17connect with other family members and a little hard to do
- 10:20an hour a week with everybody. But still, you know, it does
- 10:23make you think like even if nobody ever listens to this, I
- 10:27mean, like you said, we get to chew the fat once a week for and
- 10:31cover a lot of topics. That's awesome.
- 10:33It's it's great. It's great.
- 10:35Well, So what do you So there's the Trump.
- 10:37Go ahead. Yeah, I was just say what's
- 10:40what's going on? I, I will tell you the axis to
- 10:42grind that I, I'll just put the, the things that I want to bitch
- 10:45about on the table, the firing the head of Bureau of Labor
- 10:50Statistics because I did not care for the results.
- 10:55I, you know, I think that says a whole lot in one statement.
- 11:00So that's kind of on my mind, hopeful, honestly, that good
- 11:04things have come out of this summit, but we'll see.
- 11:07Yeah, I don't, I don't necessarily get the.
- 11:10I mean, I think of the BLS like PPI label, like producer price
- 11:16index tables and such. It's like heavy math stuff.
- 11:22I don't know what I didn't. I haven't read what the cause of
- 11:25the firing is. But yeah, I agree.
- 11:27It's kind of like I'm hopeful there's bigger fish to fry than
- 11:30the BLS leadership, you know? But yeah, that's.
- 11:34Well, I think candidly, I think the issue was, and this is true.
- 11:39So they came out with, they always come out with their
- 11:43statistics. But then there's very often a
- 11:47restatement of what they saw in previous periods.
- 11:52And it's just the nature of the data collection, right?
- 11:55They get this information from a variety of sources, but they're
- 12:00all trailing indicators. And so you, you make your best
- 12:05guess on what you know. You know, they rely for
- 12:08employment data, they rely on people like ADP who do payroll
- 12:13processing for huge numbers of companies.
- 12:15You know, you're having to make some sampling in there, but that
- 12:19doesn't catch everybody. And the restatement was that the
- 12:23economy is not that great that we're and honestly, I think that
- 12:29probably a lot of people are experiencing that.
- 12:32I think there's a couple of real headwinds in the economy and
- 12:35inflation prob, I'm sorry, unemployment probably is
- 12:38significantly higher than than what the top line number has
- 12:42been over the last couple of quarters.
- 12:46But that's not evidence of malfeasance.
- 12:48I, I, I think most of the people that are really into this,
- 12:53they're quants, they're statistical people.
- 12:55They are, they are not gaming things for a political basis.
- 13:00Like you couldn't get them to change their mind one way or the
- 13:03other. They think that this is what the
- 13:04number said and they could be wrong, right.
- 13:06Like, we admit that they could be wrong, but I just don't see a
- 13:09lot of partisanship in that. Did he say it was because it's a
- 13:14political thing or? Yeah, I mean, I mean, in a
- 13:17typical Trump fashion, he's like these Democrats are out there
- 13:22cooking the books, so I look bad.
- 13:26I just that that's kind of not how those people roll.
- 13:32Again, not that anybody couldn't be wrong or whatever, but what
- 13:37I, what I worry about is so these government Bureau
- 13:42statistics and by the way, a raise a glass to the old man, He
- 13:47was actually on a board at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, part
- 13:51of the group that sets the consumer price index and other
- 13:55things. So, you know, this is kind of in
- 13:57his wheelhouse. And so in his memory, I think we
- 14:02shouldn't trample on the labor. But you know, so BLS is a really
- 14:09good example that they're certainly not perfect, but the
- 14:15ability to rely on a single number that everybody agrees is
- 14:19authoritative, it may need to be restated after the fact.
- 14:23So it's nothing's perfect, but having a fixed number and a non
- 14:28partisan, impartial factual number is really important.
- 14:34And I think you're seeing this with Wall Street.
- 14:36I don't know. I've been paying a lot of
- 14:37attention to the market these days.
- 14:38And what you have is you have this whip saw because we're
- 14:43questioning the validity of the underlying data.
- 14:47Well, if if you can't trust the data, it really undermines
- 14:53business decision making and I think it has a really negative
- 14:55effect on the economy. Looks like her name was Erica
- 15:00Mcintarfer or something like that.
- 15:02She's been the commissioner of Labor Statistics since 24, but
- 15:06it's kind of unclear what the hell else she's been doing up
- 15:09until now. Oh, she's got a LinkedIn page.
- 15:11That's easy. I mean, OK, From 2002 to 2008,
- 15:17she was an economist at the Census Bureau, and then she's an
- 15:21economist at the Department of Treasury for two years.
- 15:25Then she's a senior economist. OK.
- 15:28This is what's weird, though. Even her LinkedIn profile,
- 15:32there's a gap from 2010 to 2022. Now, maybe she's just out of the
- 15:37workforce for that period. No, I think that's when she was
- 15:40working in Davos for the Bilderbergers.
- 15:44I know exactly. I mean, you know, I'm, I'm, you
- 15:48know, and now wind up a conspiracy theorist over
- 15:51everything, right? Well, I guess what I'm saying is
- 15:54she's the director of the thing. She doesn't make the statistics
- 15:58up. It's there's hundreds of
- 16:01nameless bureaucrats below that. I'm just telling you that I
- 16:07don't think you're going to get a, you know, maybe a little bit
- 16:12of deep state resistance to craziness, But this is not a
- 16:16Democrat plot to undermine Trump's presidency.
- 16:20OK, so back on the conspiracy game, have you seen you probably
- 16:25don't, but Rogan this week had this this US representative,
- 16:31she's a Republican, Anna Paulina Luna and at least what I
- 16:37listened to from the beginning, she's she's advocating for the
- 16:43release of all the UFO information.
- 16:46She said in her podcast that she was Privy to a classified
- 16:52debrief of evidence the US government has, and she said
- 16:57from what she saw, there's no way that technology was
- 17:02developed by humans. Wow, yeah.
- 17:05I mean, a government official to say something like that, I'm
- 17:08like, oh, and it's funny, 'cause she's like, you know, I'm a
- 17:11Christian. I mean, I, I believe God created
- 17:14the earth, but obviously, you know, the existence of alien
- 17:18life forms doesn't negate that. But but it's certainly is
- 17:22unsettling, you know, and and she's like I and her thing was
- 17:26like, and this is information that the public need has a right
- 17:30to know. You know, you can't just hang on
- 17:32to all this stuff. Wow, that's really interesting.
- 17:35I mean, you know, like here, I'm going to, I keep saying this all
- 17:39through the Epstein thing. I'm like, I'm not a conspiracy
- 17:42theorist. I got to tell you, the UFO thing
- 17:44is weird. It is weird because I think,
- 17:50well, again, channeling the old man, his comment on JFK was that
- 17:55he thought that it maybe wasn't that complicated, but the people
- 17:59that were running the Commission investigating it thought, Oh my
- 18:02gosh, the Russians are out to get us.
- 18:04And so they built a defense to a problem that never existed.
- 18:09And some of that may be what's going on with UF OS, right?
- 18:11People are just terrified of it. And so they built a system
- 18:16around it. The most interesting thing I, I
- 18:19think about that I'm, I'm just piling on with the crazy based
- 18:23on what you just said, I finished that rum is that the
- 18:28idea that these things flew here from some other planet that's,
- 18:33you know, 3 billion light years away?
- 18:35Really the physics of that just don't work real good for me.
- 18:39And again, you and I have. Let me interject.
- 18:43That's the technology. She said that there's no way it
- 18:47was developed by humans. She said there's credible
- 18:49evidence of time travel. I don't know what the hell that
- 18:51is, but she didn't say the words time travel.
- 18:55She said inter dimensional. Well, now we're talking because
- 19:01I, I was going to say that I feel like, well, you're looking
- 19:04something up. I, I feel like those
- 19:07explanations that have suggested that maybe what we're calling
- 19:10extraterrestrials are just human or non human species that
- 19:16predate us, that just kind of are so far beyond us that they
- 19:24exist around and among us, but not really in a, in a way that
- 19:28we're in other words, that the, the technology that built the
- 19:32pyramids like it was way ahead of the time and it kept going
- 19:36and now they choose to hide themselves from us.
- 19:41She said this is her work. Congress has seen proof of
- 19:45interdimensional beings. I think that they can actually
- 19:48operate through the time spaces that we currently have.
- 19:52And that's not something that I came up with on my own.
- 19:54It's based on stuff that we've seen, based on information that
- 19:58we've reviewed. Wow.
- 20:00That's kind of crazy, I got to say.
- 20:04And I mean, you know, like, he was like, you know, everybody's
- 20:07going to say you're a nut job. And she's like, OK, but you
- 20:10know, like, it doesn't matter what party you're in.
- 20:12Like, I'm sure people are going to be like, oh, she's crazy.
- 20:16But like I don't see the advantage of that of saying that
- 20:21I mean. No, you know.
- 20:23I don't. I guess I don't see the angle of
- 20:24why you make that. Up no.
- 20:27And I think what's it's consistent with what you've
- 20:30heard of, there are a lot of Congress members from both sides
- 20:36that have come out of briefings and there's, you know, you've
- 20:38seen pictures. Their eyes are wide open.
- 20:41You know, they're, they're a little freaked out by what
- 20:43they've seen. And I, I think that's
- 20:46interesting. You know, these are people that
- 20:48are routinely getting security briefings that would probably
- 20:52make our heads explode. And these are the things that
- 20:56they see and they're like, whoa, I don't know.
- 20:58Well, I. Mean, you know I.
- 21:01Maybe. I don't want to say.
- 21:03I don't want to speak prematurely.
- 21:05But I. Almost wonder if we're
- 21:07approaching almost like an Arab Spring type epiphany.
- 21:14That may not be the right comparison, but you know, like
- 21:17the Arab Spring, like when these people in these suppressive
- 21:21countries were like, I had enough of this bullshit.
- 21:24Like we're done now. You know, obviously the results
- 21:28didn't turn out too good, but I kind of feel like we're in a
- 21:32similar situation. Like don't guess like me on this
- 21:36Epstein crap. That is nonsense.
- 21:38We know there's more. Give it up like this UFO thing,
- 21:42like, I'm not just going to sit on it.
- 21:44People are going to tell. Like, is it possible we're
- 21:47entering an era where, you know, just hanging on to secrets that
- 21:51you can leverage over others is not going to fly?
- 21:54Well, and I wonder what the benefit of secrecy is, but
- 22:00again, kind of the game theorist in me, right?
- 22:02Like, OK, hypothetically there is.
- 22:07We have contact with a species or a consciousness that's able
- 22:12to transcend time and space and distance.
- 22:15OK. I don't know what that means,
- 22:17right? Are you thinking you're going to
- 22:19keep that to yourself? Like, that's never going to come
- 22:23out? Like we're going to sweep that
- 22:26under the rug. Like, that makes no sense,
- 22:29right? You know that it's eventually,
- 22:32and So what would be the possible upside of trying to
- 22:37keep a secret? Well, and part of it is, I mean,
- 22:41her statement too is that US defense contractors have tapped
- 22:44into some of this stuff and we're like trying to re engineer
- 22:49it. And so I could see Once Upon a
- 22:52time that would be the, hey, this is going to be a strategic
- 22:55advantage. But in the information age that
- 22:59we're in now, it seems like things are moving too fast to
- 23:02hang on to crap. Maybe I'm naive.
- 23:04No, I it it, it doesn't add up to me.
- 23:07And, and again, OK, so if these beings are capable of time and
- 23:14multiple billion light year travel, are they going to allow
- 23:18themselves to be misrepresented by the US Department of Defense
- 23:22and the defence contractors we're.
- 23:26Happy to work for Lockheed Martin.
- 23:28Yeah, that's fine. Yeah.
- 23:33Take me to your leader and they roll into, you know, L3.
- 23:38Well, that's, I mean, that to me is the biggest is, is the
- 23:43biggest argument against all this stuff is it's like if they
- 23:46presented themselves, like why are they only preventing
- 23:51presenting themselves to people in, you know, remote parts of
- 23:55Nevada and not, you know, like New York City, I mean.
- 23:59Land that sucker on the mall and we're going to have a very
- 24:02different conversation than if I'm abducting people in the
- 24:07woods of the Northwest. So switching gears to Epstein,
- 24:11and I hate to use the E word, I read another article today that
- 24:16was fascinating and it's about the number of people in the
- 24:22Epstein circle and story that have died mysteriously over the
- 24:27last 10 years. I don't know if you've read any
- 24:30of that. It's striking.
- 24:32Now, in Full disclosure, I'm quoting the National Enquirer,
- 24:35so you know, there's that, but. Well, while you're looking that
- 24:39up, though, I texted you when I, I had missed this news somehow
- 24:44that, oh, that Virginia Jeffrey, who was the accuser, you know,
- 24:49she took her own life. And honestly, that woman bore a
- 24:52lot. And it's entirely possible that
- 24:54that's just the the place she was and despondent.
- 24:57And if so, I'm sorry to hear that.
- 24:59I got to say, that's a little freaky, right?
- 25:03That people keep dying near the middle of this thing. 22 people
- 25:08associated with it. Now there's people that are
- 25:12named like Stephen Hawking was supposedly went to his island.
- 25:16Well, I mean, I, I don't think Stephen Hawking was long for
- 25:21this world as a, you know, I, I mean, obviously you had some
- 25:24other issues going on. My favorite, though, I'd love to
- 25:30dig in on this more. Mark Middleton, 59, an advisor
- 25:36to former President Bill Clinton with ties to Epstein, was found
- 25:40hanged and shot in Arkansas in May 2022.
- 25:46And what was ruled a suicide Like ruled a suicide?
- 25:53You you picture a Rube Goldberg mechanism that this elaborate
- 25:59thing that I'm going to make sure that I both hang myself and
- 26:07fire the parting shot just in case.
- 26:10Yeah, he was found hanging from a tree with an extension cord
- 26:14around his neck and a shotgun wound to his.
- 26:16Chest, yeah. That was a suicide.
- 26:19I had nothing to see, folks. The scale, I don't know, you
- 26:25know, I don't know who to believe in this, but I saw
- 26:27something. There's a woman who was a
- 26:31broadcast journalist and she's now out of the game and she's
- 26:34got her own podcast. Tara Palmeri.
- 26:37You ever heard of her? She's a, you know, she's a left
- 26:41wing. I don't know that she's
- 26:42officially left wing, but she was talking about this and I
- 26:47don't know where she got her stats, but the the number of
- 26:51victims is in the thousands. The number of the women that
- 26:57were a part of that enterprise at some point is in the 1000.
- 27:02Wow. Well, and then, I don't know.
- 27:05Did you see the Katie Johnson allegations?
- 27:09No. No, this Katie Johnson had made
- 27:15a like criminal complaint against Donald Trump and Epstein
- 27:21back in like 16. And it's pretty graphic.
- 27:26I mean, what she alleged from both of them of having, you
- 27:32know, abused her when she was 13 years old.
- 27:34I mean, it's pretty brutal. But she dropped the case.
- 27:40But, you know, there was several things about why the the case
- 27:45was dropped, but the main reason was she feared for her life.
- 27:48And it's like, well, I mean, if there's truly thousands of
- 27:52people wrapped up in this thing, like, again, this approach is
- 27:57the Q Anon business, but that means there's a lot of power in
- 28:02this whole thing. And I mean, we kind of laugh
- 28:05about that. I mean, it is comical that they
- 28:08pass that off as a suicide. I mean, I mean, of these 22
- 28:13people, like I said, I don't think Stephen Hawking got axed
- 28:17by one of these goons. But it's not to say that if
- 28:20there were that many powerful people involved in something
- 28:23that big, hell yeah, there'd be people getting killed.
- 28:26And look, you know, the administration's saying there's
- 28:29absolutely nothing. The opposite sides, there's
- 28:32thousands of people involved. The truth is probably somewhere
- 28:35in the middle. But I they got a result.
- 28:38Somebody's got to resolve this, Congress or somebody.
- 28:40But maybe Congress didn't want to resolve it either.
- 28:43Well, right. I mean, how many of them are on
- 28:46the list? You know, the the thing about it
- 28:49is like, even if there is no new information, right, even if
- 28:55there's not a single new thing in the file, it's a horrible,
- 28:59awful story that is an embarrassment at the highest
- 29:03levels of our government and our society.
- 29:07It's a terrible, terrible thing. And so even if there is no new
- 29:13information other than what's already been published in the
- 29:16New York Times, it's not a hoax. It's not a oh, nothing, Bert
- 29:20like it's it's a ghastly thing. If there's nothing additional.
- 29:25No. And if everything's already in
- 29:27the public domain, then why aren't we releasing it?
- 29:31I it. Right.
- 29:32And why this is? Really linear.
- 29:35And why do both parties do the same thing?
- 29:38That's the part again, we've said it a million times, people,
- 29:42we're going to tune out, but maybe we need a Epstein files
- 29:46party, like a like a new political party destined to
- 29:51getting the truth. But like, you know, we've talked
- 29:54about that and I and I feel like that's been a a theme throughout
- 29:58our podcast over the last year. And and it kind of relates to
- 30:01all these conspiracy theories is what is truth?
- 30:04What is the no kidding story? I mean, we're, we're trying to
- 30:08find it out together, talking things out, but like, what is
- 30:12the real story? So this is kind of a, a second
- 30:15drink kind of a statement. But I, but you know what I
- 30:18wonder, like I think we've, I think if we've established
- 30:22nothing over this last year, it's that we are closer really
- 30:27then we're far apart. And yet we operate in these two
- 30:32different ecosystem and your newsfeed looks very different
- 30:36than my newsfeed, right? Like we, we've established this
- 30:39thing. Maybe what if if this says
- 30:43nothing else, It says that the if if you can paint two sides of
- 30:49a story that completely differently.
- 30:51Like maybe it was all bullshit to begin with.
- 30:54And maybe when we thought we had the one story that showed up on
- 30:59ABCCBS and NBC, maybe that was all made-up nonsense at that
- 31:04time anyway. And so now if the game in this
- 31:09town of DC is to just make up stuff that people want to hear,
- 31:15the only thing that's changed is that you get to micro pick your
- 31:19news. So the news that gets made-up
- 31:22for the different groups just diverges because people want to
- 31:25hear different things. But it was all made-up in the
- 31:271st place anyway. And actually, I mean, this
- 31:30sounds crazy coming out of my mouth, but I don't know.
- 31:36I've been looking at stuff that look back at Kennedy, you know,
- 31:41long this would be another podcast.
- 31:43The been looking at the Mercury 7 project and you know, Kennedy
- 31:47and the space race and you look back and it's this this varnish
- 31:53on the this shiny gleamy. Everything was wonderful.
- 31:58We know Jack Kennedy was a scoundrel.
- 32:01We know that all kinds of bad stuff was happening.
- 32:04We we saw a little glimpse of the crazy with Nixon even before
- 32:11the election, before Nixon took over, Johnson caught him red
- 32:16handed, undercutting the negotiations in Vietnam.
- 32:21And there's a phone call between Johnson and Nixon where
- 32:24Johnson's like, I got you, I caught you doing this and I'm
- 32:29not going to say anything because the American people
- 32:31can't handle I'm ranting now. I don't know that like are we
- 32:37just, is this two party 2 news cycle?
- 32:42Is this just the latest manifestation of the same
- 32:45bullshit they've been feeding us for 100?
- 32:46Yeah, I, I feel like a year into our podcast, I, I came into this
- 32:52thing I think with very, I think established positions and
- 32:58thoughts, not like on everything, but like this is the
- 33:01way this this is how this operates.
- 33:02This is how this operates. And and I think through our
- 33:06dialogue and you're challenging and and obviously recent events
- 33:09also, it's like, I feel like there's goodness in challenging
- 33:14your positions, but the same time I almost feel jaded, like
- 33:19they're all assholes. And you know, I like our aunt,
- 33:22illustrious aunt who's who's famous quote.
- 33:25People are assholes. They're they are they're and
- 33:29that sounds so apathetic. Well, the reciprocal of that,
- 33:33though, Kyle, because here's what's changed for me over this
- 33:36podcast. And this doesn't surprise me.
- 33:38I knew this all along. I have to tell you, the stuff
- 33:41that I've seen out of Trump and his cronies, I hope I've
- 33:45represented well. Like in total, I just zoom out
- 33:49and I'm like, my Lord, what has happened to my country?
- 33:52What has happened to the party that I used to belong to?
- 33:55And then I hear you talking and you you take positions that I
- 34:00don't agree with, but you don't speak about other human beings
- 34:06in a belittling way. You don't right.
- 34:10You like you, you disagree with things on policy with me, but
- 34:14our values aren't that different.
- 34:17And like, I think that we've it's changed me hearing you put
- 34:23a different spin on things that are just like, well, this wasn't
- 34:28you. But this thing about DC and the
- 34:32crime and the National Guard. And part of me is like, my Lord,
- 34:35what? We're marching National Guard up
- 34:38and down because people got a popsicle stolen on the mall.
- 34:40And like what? Well, truth is that in DC
- 34:44there's a big difference between what goes on in the big public
- 34:48spaces and you get in the east and southeast side of town, and
- 34:54there's some real problems there.
- 34:56And Joe Scarborough was one who just recently was like, hey, you
- 35:01know, before we're all like, oh, you know, Washington, DC, it's
- 35:05like the city of Oz and there's no problems.
- 35:08Like, yeah, there's a real crime problem.
- 35:10It's actually better now than it's been.
- 35:13But depending on where you are in DC, yeah, there's some crime
- 35:17there. There's some problems.
- 35:18And it's probably not the the DC government's been effective,
- 35:23been ineffective. I don't know.
- 35:24This is the place that re elected Mary and Mary I mean.
- 35:28Yeah, I mean, I agree with that, except I, you know, I think this
- 35:32whole podcast is just a hoax. I mean.
- 35:37Has hoax gotten more? Is anytime in human history has
- 35:42the term hoax gotten more usage? I mean, everything's.
- 35:47I'm thinking about Al Pacino character in The Devil's
- 35:52Advocate. He's like, it's my time and it's
- 35:56the time of the hoax. Yeah, I don't know.
- 35:59I don't want to be this, this Blase, this negative about
- 36:04things. But it, it really does, you
- 36:06know, like there's a really painful narrative that I've
- 36:10been, I've been drinking over the last.
- 36:13Well, you know, it's almost 10 years that has been going on
- 36:17and, you know, I'm never going to love Donald Trump.
- 36:20But I also have to acknowledge that it it would be unlikely
- 36:24that even the worst of persons wouldn't occasionally do
- 36:27something that wasn't worthy of condemnation.
- 36:32Now, you know, it's interesting, Trump's meeting Putin in Alaska.
- 36:37If he was smart, he'd say, hey, I'll give you a California.
- 36:42If you'll call it quits over there, I'll give you, well, you
- 36:46wouldn't want to give up all of California.
- 36:48I mean, just the San Francisco to LA, right?
- 36:52But but that could be problematic.
- 36:54Yeah, yeah. I mean, I I see the challenges
- 36:57with such a thing. Just kidding.
- 37:02No, that would be bad. Hey, thanks for joining us on
